Waited an hour for them to decline an item clearly outlined in my client's contract. Called back the next day got a better adjuster who approved but their supposed average for the area is set based on independent shop averages and covers 117$ an hour on a luxury vehicle. DO NOT BUY THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY. Save your money. You will never get your return on investment working with them, Do your research and don't get swindled like my client did.

Zero. I purchased this extended warranty on a used 2021 truck. At the first signs of overheating, the vehicle was taken to to the dealership that found coolant "a little" low, but no leaks. 3 other service centers and 2 coolant flushes later, the vehicle is rapidly overheating. After broken apart, it turns out to be head gasket. Said extended warranty then denies claim because the vehicle overheated! Loophole in contract of failed covered part causing not covered breakdown. STAY FAR AWAY! Called for explanation, got hung up on. No dispute process- no chance to send in service records. COMPLETE RIP OFF. THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND BID YOU GOOD DAY (literally happened).

I purchased a warranty through my dealership from Smart Auto Care, and my experience has been an absolute nightmare. My rear differential went out, and the repair shop has been trying to work with them for over 15 days. According to the shop manager, most warranty companies get this done in a couple of days—a week at most. It took me over 10 hours just to get someone on the phone, and then an entire week just to get paperwork from one person to the next. This delay directly cost me my outside sales job because I didn’t have a vehicle to work.
To make matters worse, they’re only covering about 50% of the repair cost, despite my warranty. I’ve now lost my job and am still stuck with a huge bill. The way this has been handled is completely unacceptable, and I am seriously considering legal action for the damages caused. I would strongly caution anyone from doing business with this company.
We apologize for the delay you experienced in reaching us and understand how frustrating this was. The wait was unacceptable. Please send your contact and contract info to reviews@smartautocare.com so we can review your experience and work to improve our response times. We take your feedback seriously and are committed to providing better service.

If Smart Autocare is the warranter. Run for the hills. Don’t sign for it. If you have to file a claim, they will come up with some obscure technicality to deny a claim. Read the fine print. Had a powertrain issue, and they denied it because they say a non-covered part causing a covered part to fail disqualifies a repair. You buy a warranty to protect your car from situations that exceed normal wear and tear and to protect you from expensive repairs down the line. A loud ticking noise when your engine starts is not a normal state for a truck to operate from. This company does not stand behind their warranty. Had one customer service agent actually hang up on me. See photo for the type of repair their Powertrain+ package doesn't cover. Poor customer service. They don’t honor their obligations and rely on exclusions to deny all services. DO NOT SIGN IT!

What do they expect? Pull over immediately and impede traffic? Put your own safety at risk to use the warranty that YOU PAID FOR? They denied the claim after over 3 HOURS of waiting for a response. - They did cover a few things they were supposed to after some hounding from the mechanics.
- When we really needed it for a failed engine still in the warranty period and mileage, the claim was denied because the head gasket developed a small leak that ruined the engine over time, and it wasn't a "lubricated engine part" that failed. So the promise your powertrain is fully covered is just a nice little inside joke. Also because the mechanics, after months of waiting, installed the engine before the warranty company rendered a final verdict (which was going to be a no anyway), they also denied the claim on the basis of "breach of contract."
- They make up their own numbers and decide what they will theoretically compensate based on those arbitrary and fictional numbers. The actual cost of the repair(s) is irrelevant.
- They are absolutely awful for the people who have to actually call them (the mechanics), earning a "worst warranty company I have ever had to deal with in my years as a mechanic" comment from one of them. *Hours* on hold, no responses, etc.
- They constantly move the goalposts for what is needed for proof of damage and repair. Can't just send photos, they'll probably have to fly an inspector in so their denial is even more expensive for the vict--er--customer.
- They charge you for the work they require in order to determine if they will cover the repair, meaning when they say no it will cost you additional hundreds or thousands of dollars (thousands in our case). It would have saved us a lot of money not to file the claim on our engine when it went out.
- They drag their feet and waste hours and hours of the time of the people who have the unfortunate obligation of dealing with them.
- Because they are so slow and terrible to deal with, days' worth of repair turns into weeks, and weeks' worth of repair turns into months. If you have a personal fleet, and all the time in the world, maybe that wouldn't bother you.
- Their interest is not in customer care in the slightest, but entirely in maximizing profits. Ethics don't exist. They're actively looking for any reason to deny claims, especially if they've paid anything holding up their end of the deal in the past.
- They habitually say they will cover this or that, and then go back and change their mind. They did this multiple times across different repairs and claims.
- In the end, this warranty cost us more than it was worth, and that was even after they covered some of the smaller repairs. I could go on with further issues, but this short list should explain it well enough to make the point.
- In summary: Just burn a pile of money instead of giving it to this "business." At least that is kind of fun to watch, and you're not helping scammers operating under the guise of legitimacy.

Called a few days in advance to preempt work, I then scheduled work at a dealership for the repair. Dealership diagnosed and submitted for claim same day, but were unable to perform work while they waited for Smartcare to respond back. (They mentioned they were put on hold for over an hour trying to submit claim.) I called Smartcare to see what was holding up the claim, and they stated that claims are handled first-come-first-serve and mine had not been assigned an adjuster. Furthermore, I verified that they only cover rentals for hours of work and not for them delaying my claim/work for three days.
Today is day 4 and they did not follow-up yesterday as stated on the phone, nor today. Going into the weekend without a vehicle due to Smart Auto simply dragging their feet on a simple repair. Now stating they need to send an inspector out which is standard for any drive train repair (then why was this initial step?) Will be quite a while before I get my truck back. Absolute nightmare.

My first experience with Smart Autocare (SAC) has been disastrous. I have an AWD Infiniti QX60 and my problem is with the AWD powertrain system. My initial claim was denied so I paid to have the front differential fixed; however, that did not fix the problem. The problem was a failure in the sensor and rear differential that SAC agreed to replace. The shop received a used refurbished unit from LKQ that ended up being defective. In short, SAC's employee George (supervisor) informed me that the issue is now between LKQ and the repair shop as SAC provided the replacement part and it is now a warranty issue for LKQ to resolve.
Bottom line my car has been in the shop for a month due to SAC's slow walking the process and to boot George informed me that because the fix should be a 3.7 hour fix that does not qualify for a rent car given SAC's policy. Bottom line is my car has been in the shop for a month; SAC has washed their hands of any responsibility for the defective part sent to the shop; and SAC is refusing to pay the shop for the installation and removal of the defective part (that is if a good one is actually found). If anyone has had a similar experience please let us know.
Christopher, we’re sorry to hear your not satisfied with your claim. We know how frustrating it is to have your vehicle in the shop for an extended period. Bought this warranty for used 2019 F-150. Bought 100,000 mile everything covered warranty (pricey) and cam phasers go out. They won't pay for OE parts. Want to send junk cheaper parts and won't cover portion of labor charges. Thankfully I have a great Ford dealership that will work with me on labor costs but still out of pocket on OE parts. The dealership even said they don't sale this warranty anymore because of the hassles and poor service. Good for them.
We appreciate your feedback and understand your concerns, Danny. Our labor rate is based on the local area average, and if a shop charges above this rate, we cover the standard amount, with any difference being the customer’s responsibility. For parts, we source from a trusted vendor whose parts often come with warranties exceeding those of OEM counterparts. If only we have -5 stars rating. This company has the habit of avoiding responsibility. My latest auto breakdown happened on Christmas Eve 12/24/2024 while away from home. On 12/26/2024 I managed to tow my car to an ASE-rated mechanic thanks to my AAA membership. My shop tried to call Endurance (which has a backdoor agreement with Smart AutoCare) and was told that nobody can give any responses until Thursday 01/02/2025. Since I need my car to get back to work on Thursday 01/02/2025, I told my shop not to wait for approval from Endurance a.k.a. Smart AutoCare and get the car fixed by 12/31/2024 before shop closing on Wednesday 01/01/2025.
On 01/03/2025 I sent my invoices of &700++ to Smart AutoCare for reimbursement and got rejected due to "not getting a prior authorization" before fixing the car. I called on 01/06/2025 and talked with David (supposedly a supervisor) and he and his staffers all insisted that they were in operation from 12/26/2024 to 12/31/2024 and tried to collide me with my mechanic as if my mechanic didn't make an attempt to contact Endurance (whom Smart AutoCare has a backdoor agreement with).
We understand how frustrating this situation must have been, and we appreciate the opportunity to clarify. I bought this extended warranty when I bought my car. Recently the transmission failed, so my mechanic contacted them. After about 2 weeks, finally they got back to him and sent an inspector to take a look at my car. The inspector came, looked at the vehicle and the transmission, and told him that he can put the transmission back. After 2 days of not hearing back, he called the company back. Then the company told him that they sent a wrong inspector, and they have to send another inspector. My mechanic told them that he already put a new transmission and the car was ready for pick-up. They told him that he had to dismantle the transmission back because the new inspector needed to look at it. First, they put a cap on how much they would (if they do) pay- $2,020. It took about $1,000 for my mechanic to undo the transmission. With no guarantee that they would reimburse me, I declined it.

Our truck has been broken and in the shop since the end of July with a known GMC issue of the fuel pump exploding. It is now the middle of November. The warranty tried to blame the dealer for basically everything taking so long and going wrong. The communication with Smart AutoCare is unreliable. I couldn’t get a hold of them, neither could the dealer. Warranty kept telling the dealer the prices were too high and they wanted to many work hours to complete the job. ON THE ADVICE OF THE WARRANTY COMPANY we moved our truck to another mechanic because they said it would be fully covered there. Nope. In fact it was MORE.
We did and we ended up needing to take a loan to get our vehicle back. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. I will never give this company my money. After this is all said and done we are going to look into a lawyer, Arbitration does not apply in Nevada, meaning we can take this to Court if we needed to. They don’t want to pay, we don’t even get new parts. We were asked to use re built parts to help the cost. They are trying to price out the job of an exploded fuel pump with Stattel in the fuel system as a 28 hour job. Every other mechanic in the Greater Reno Nevada area quoted this job 48 to 53 hours. Smart AutoCare is disgusting and should be ashamed, do not waste any amount of your money on a powertrain warranty.

I purchased Gap insurance through Smart Auto care. I was asked to provide 18 pieces of documentation, which I provided twice, even using registered mail. After months of calls, the run around and asking me for more documentation, they first stated they were going to honor my claim. Then, they stated they would not because the vehicle was refinanced. I truly believe this is a made up excuse. Why: Because since I was their customer, that question and discussion should have been had with me prior to wasting hours of my time.
Also, refinancing the vehicle at a much better interest rate caused the gap claim to be lowered which should have worked in Smart Auto Care's favor. They take your money and find ways to deny your claim. The claim was less than $1500. Not settling such a small claim isn't even worth the harm that will be caused to them from receiving this horrible, factual, review. I would have left 0 stars if I could have. I have been in the auto industry over 20 years. This is by far the worst warranty co I have had to work with. Hour long wait times to place a claim. They don't send payment once completed. You must follow up many times before they pay. Only after they pay, do you find out they have a deductible. The manager listened to the call, and verified the agent told me there was not a deductible. Also, when I called for payment another rep confirmed the dollar amount and this did not have the deductible removed. They also did not mention a deductible. They still refused to cover this. The manager then became very rude when I asked for a supervisor about him, and then hung up on me. No repair shop should accept these contracts, and no consumer should purchase. It wasn’t even my contract. I told her I didn’t know what she was reading but that’s not my contract. She said, "Oops you must have an older contract."
Took the car to the dealer and Smart Autocare said they would only cover the price of a used part and a half hour for the labor. Again I sent the dealer a copy of the contract. Clearly states they will cover the price of the part at manufacturer's suggested retail price, the repair facility's published hourly rate and time using national labor rate time guide. Sending in a bill for the car rental which clearly states up to 7 days is covered at $50 per day. Now first call adjuster said it is not covered and read me the contract. Clearly misreading their obligation to pay. She said to submit the bill via email but they will deny it. So buyer beware. This company is a total scam.

Dodge even was in complete disgust with how they handled the claim and the denial. DO NOT BUY.

A complete waste of money and time. I had a blow out on the freeway and had to be towed to a tire shop. I purchased a tire however, I couldn’t get reimbursed from this company because I purchased a tired before making a claim. This is unreasonable! Not worth the money. Horrible service. Absolutely not worth it! Zero stars!

If I could give 0 stars I would which should be an option. Avoid these at all cost. I got a flat tire on my way to driving my kids to school and come to find I had a nail and 2 tears in my tire which I had to patch. I put on the claim after the fact. But they need you to get pre-approved for everything. Their response was, "Oh you could have towed the car." Avoid them at all cost!
We’re sorry to hear about your experience and understand your frustration. Our policies do require pre-approval for claims, and we apologize if this wasn't clearly communicated. Please reach out to us directly at 800.242.7316 or email reviews@smartautocare.com if you have any questions or require additional assistance.

Don't get involved with this company! Make sure you read the contract and follow their procedure. My first claim was denied cause I did not let the auto care call and handle the discovery of a bad caliber. My second claim went to where I purchased the car who could not guarantee the repair so I went on their recommendation to another dealer. Now it cost me $100 deductible. The recommended dealer could fixed the problem but had to wait for approval, plus wait on the phone average 45 min to 90 min.one day before response. Then wait again for payment one and a half days. Again the average wait time was 45mi on phone, but this time I was also calling 2xs average wait 35 min to 49 min. There is no direct contact number only the 800 number. Is this company that popular? I regret my buy this contract but will hold on to it cause my vehicle is cover till 150,000 miles or another three years.
We apologize for the frustration you’ve experienced and appreciate your feedback. We understand that the claim process can sometimes be challenging, and we’re sorry for the extended wait times you encountered. We value your business and are committed to improving our service moving forward.
