What is Ship A Car?

Ship A Car is a vehicle-shipping broker that assists both individuals and businesses with moving cars, trucks, motorcycles, RVs, boats, trailers and equipment throughout the U.S. The company has a network of thousands of carriers it uses for various shipping services, including both open and closed transport. Ship A Car has been in business over 10 years and has worked with more than 50,000 clients. It's based in Coral Springs, Florida, and is available to customers in all 50 states.

How does Ship A Car work?

To move your vehicle with Ship A Car, follow these four steps:

  1. Get an instant quote. Fill out a form and use the online shipping cost calculator to get an instant quote. Or, if you prefer to speak to a shipping specialist, call Ship A Car directly.
  2. Book your reservation. After receiving your quote, you can book vehicle transport online or over the phone. To complete your reservation, you need to sign a transport contract.
  3. Your vehicle is assigned to a carrier. Ship A Car assigns your vehicle to the best carrier for your route, shipping type, schedule preference and budget. Your initial payment is due. You then receive specific information about pickup and delivery times and the driver.
  4. Vehicle is picked up, transported and delivered. Your truck driver arrives on the pickup day, at which point you both inspect your vehicle and sign a bill of lading before it leaves. Once your vehicle arrives at its destination, there’s a final inspection and you sign again to complete the delivery. At this point, you make your final payment directly to the driver.

Ship A Car provides a checklist with tips on how to protect and prepare your car before transport. It includes steps like washing your car (which makes it easier to inspect), checking for leaks, having the appropriate amount of fuel, removing personal items from the interior and removing toll tags.

Ship A Car service

With Ship A Car, you can choose between open and enclosed shipping:

  • Open carrier: Open-carrier shipping is the cheapest and most common service offered by Ship A Car. The vehicle is shipped straight to your door in an open trailer.
  • Enclosed carrier: Enclosed-carrier shipping is the safest way to transport your vehicle because your car won’t be exposed to weather or debris from the road.

Additional individual shipping services:

  • Classic car shipping
  • Exotic car shipping
  • Motorcycle transport
  • ATV shipping
  • Golf car transport
  • Military transport
  • Season relocations
  • College transport

For businesses, Ship A Car offers:

  • Corporate relocation
  • Fleet management
  • Dealer relocation
  • Auction, eBay and salvage car transport

Ship A Car also offers shipping solutions for specialized vehicles and heavy equipment, including:

  • Pipes and logs
  • Cargo vans
  • School buses
  • Snow removal equipment
  • Project cargo
  • Convention and trade show equipment
  • Trailers
  • Tractors
  • Food trucks
  • Boats and yachts
  • Campers, mobile homes and RVs

Ship A Car costs

To find out about Ship A Car’s pricing, you can request a quote online or by calling. Shipping costs depend on factors such as the type of car, the shipping method, the shipping date and the distance between destinations. You can expect enclosed-carrier shipping to be more expensive than open-carrier shipping. Ship A Car requires a small deposit at the time a carrier is assigned; you then pay the balance to the driver at vehicle delivery.

Ship A Car offers discounts for active-duty military, veterans, reservists, National Guard members and military dependents. College students and seniors also qualify for discounts.

I would recommend Ship A Car, 100%, to anybody. We had a very good experience with them. The first day I spoke with our agent, Lisa, she was very impressive. I understood everything and I totally enjoyed talking to her. She was very professional. I was getting into why we were doing this and she made it personable because she always asked about my kids. I have a daughter that is in college also and she always made me feel like she was interested in what was going on too. I enjoyed her as a representative.

Ship A Car, as our broker, hired Lion Trans. The driver came and we were not impressed with him. When the driver pulled the truck up, it looked like he hit the car in front of it with my son's truck or the truck in front of it. So, it wasn't the best experience as far as the driver. Then, after he picked up our car on March the 4th, I got a phone call on March the 13th from Lion Trans that the driver had hit an overpass and totaled my kid's truck and that they don't know where it happened. He kept driving and took it to the port. We asked Lion Trans not to leave the truck. I had to get in touch with my insurance company and try to work that out. But Lion Trans left the port, took my kid's truck to an apartment building of somebody that they knew, dropped it off, snapped a picture, put the keys in the gas tank, and left it there and said that the insurance company can pick it up from there. It was in an apartment building parking lot for four days.

My insurance company had to send somebody to California to assess it. Lisa called me and was very apologetic. She was awesome and gave me any information and paperwork that I needed to try to help us. Ship A Car gave us the money back for the shipment from the port and gave us our refund of $200 because we had to pay for their services. But Lion Trans refused to give us our transport fee back. They said they did their job and didn't owe us anything.

Ship A Car, Inc. response

Thank you for all of your kind words! I really enjoyed working with you both! You were both so patient and lovely to deal with. It is easy to see why your kids are turning out so well, having such dedicated parents. I wish you all only the best!

Sincerely,

Lisa Spiegel

I had a 2008 Toyota 4Runner shipped for about 531 miles from Indianapolis to Charlotte, North Carolina. My sales associate at Ship A Car was named Lisa and she was very sweet. She was very personable and didn't ask me to leave any reviews, but she seemed genuinely interested in me. She didn't try to upsell me and was upfront in letting me know there might be unexpected costs. The costs ended up being a little bit more than what I was quoted for because I had some personal items in the car. But from my understanding, the company couldn't control that and it was up to the transporter who ultimately decides to transport the cars. They're able to not charge you extra for whatever is in your car.

I also had an issue with the merchant that they worked with to have my car delivered. They were not upfront about how they wanted the payment, so it was a little bit off to me. They wanted it in cash, but I would have preferred to do a credit card payment. They said there would be a 1 to 5% small additional charge but it turned out, when I was getting ready to pay the person who delivered my car, it was going to be 15%. The drivers said that they didn't carry any change. So, I paid with cash. But I expressed my concern about that to my Ship A Car, Inc. agent and she told me that she would be getting in touch with them to touch base with them because that wasn't what they told her.

For the pickup in Indiana, I live on a pretty busy residential street and they don't necessarily do door-to-door if they can't do it. So, they had to pick up my car at a different location, an AutoZone parking lot, then they had to drop my car off at a Walmart parking lot. It's not a big deal and I got my car in the end. But it was not what I was expecting from what they advertised. Also, I was advised by my Ship A Car agent to take pictures before my car was dropped off with the person who was going to ship it to me, then take pictures of it afterwards. I was also told that they had the driver who's shipping the car for you look at the car, and they note-take any damages before they pick it up and have the person sign-off on that.

So, I already had damage to my car which was peeling paint, but there was no flat tire or anything missing out of my car during delivery. Plus, I was paranoid, so I put an Apple AirTag on my keys, which they left in the car. So, I knew my keys weren't taken out of my car and I could track my car the entire way. So far, I've not noticed anything wrong with my car since they've dropped it off and it's been about a month now.

I would use Ship A Car again if I was planning on shipping my car again. With a lot of companies this day and age, it was a bit of an older workforce and they could use a little bit of a less sketchier website. But other than that, they're a pretty good service. For a company I've never heard of and that I pretty much found on Google, I was pleasantly surprised with the service and overall happy with their level of customer service and their care. Even though it was a little bit of a last minute when they let me know my car was going to get picked up, throughout the entire process, they were attentive to me. Even though they tried to be a little bit hands-off when they finally got someone to pick up my car, they were still checking in on me. And on the day that my car was supposed to be delivered, they made sure to call and see how my experience went.

    Ship A Car, Inc. response

Atiyah, I am glad to hear you were so happy with my service. I do my best to take care of all of my customers. I will be happy to help you again in the future. I wish you the best of luck as you go back to school and start a new chapter of your life. Thank you for your kind words.

    Sincerely,

    Lisa Spiegel

Ship A Car, Inc. reached right out to me instantly, and they hit the date that I needed. After the transaction, they were very helpful. The woman who I talked to when I was finalizing everything was excellent. She called me every time and let me know everything. And she emailed everything to make sure that I had records, even though I'm not an email type of person. But I saw them and everything was good. She made sure she called every time, did not just send a blind email. She called me and made sure everything was still good before the car was picked up. And Ship A Car, Inc. was with me through the whole thing.

I was given the courier's number and I talked to him three times. He kept me informed of where he was and when he could be here. He picked it up in California. He said that they could be there the 25th and they got there the 24th, which was nice. They picked it up at the residence of the previous owner. I had them drop it off at my place of work because there's a bigger parking lot. It's easier. He called me when he was close, and called me when he was where he wanted to pull in. And everything was great. He was a good guy. It took 8 to 10 days from the time the courier picked it up until the time I had it. I would use Ship A Car, Inc. again. The gentleman that I purchased the vehicle from called me. He used the courier because he picked up another car a couple of weeks later.

Thank you Rick for the great review you just gave us! It was my pleasure to help you get your beautiful Mustang transported, enclosed from CA-NH. I love hearing how the carriers service was too and so happy he was responsive and a good guy. If you know someone else needing their vehicle shipped give them my direct number. Thanks Kristina

I was contacted by Lisa, and she was exceptional and very personable. I talked with her on the phone, and it felt like I was dealing with somebody I could trust. It took two and a half weeks to get the car picked up. That's partly because there was a bad blizzard in the Midwest at the time and it was over the holidays, so there were not many transporters available. When the job was finally picked up though, I got a call from Lisa and she said that she had been in contact with the trucker and he wanted somewhat more money than what she had offered initially. She suggested a compromise, and I told her to go ahead. The trucker agreed that morning to the compromised price. He picked up the car that afternoon and it was here by about 2pm the next day. It took less than 24 hours to get here. I was just floored.

The trucker had a diesel pickup truck. It was a smaller trailer, and it was just one level. My car was the only one on that route, and the only snag was the trucker contacted me about 15 minutes out, saying that he was very close to my house and he was about to drop off the car. I was at work. I didn't expect him until the following day, so I had to tie up things and get here quickly. Although the communication could have been a little better on his end, he was a really nice guy. He was Russian and spoke very little English so maybe that was why he didn't want to call me. By the time I got home, the car was already in the driveway, and the trucker had the paperwork ready to go. Everything went really well, and I would highly recommend Ship A Car. I’d tell people to talk to Lisa.

    Ship A Car, Inc. response

Mark, thank you for your kind words! It was a challenging time of year to get the job done, but we did it! It was a pleasure working with you and I appreciated your patience. I hope we can work together again, it was my pleasure!

    Sincerely,

    Lisa Spiegel

The rep who answered the phone was a car person. He explained to me that his dad had lots of cars and he had a Dairy Queen and they parked their cars out front. I’ve always been around race cars and he has a racecar. So, out of all the people I talked to, whoever that rep was, he was the most knowledgeable. He is probably Ship A Car’s best salesman. The car was to be transported to my house and they said it would be here Friday. I was out of town and I was driving back from Fort Worth in the evening on Wednesday, and I get a call. The man said that he would like to drop off my car that night. I said that I was not even at my house and asked how he got down so fast. It was Wednesday. He said not to worry about it and asked if he could drop it off between 7:00 and 8:00.

I got up in the morning and my wife informed me that the sprinkler people were coming. So at 7:15, at least four pickup trucks and about eight guys showed up, and they all parked around our house. And at 7:45, a neighbor, two houses down, was replacing their fence. So, another four trucks showed up with eight guys. And accordingly, I’m going, “Where is this guy?” And sure enough, here he comes with the transport, zigzagging in between all these parked trucks. He asked where he would park. I told him to back it in our cul-de-sac and he did. Then, the local security guard asked if I was moving. I told him I was getting a car delivered. So, he stops.

There must be 20 people, all watching. Then the driver asked if I knew how to drive a stick shift. He couldn’t get the car out of the carrier because he couldn’t drive a stick. So I told him I would help him. He’s got two cars in the carrier, mine, which follow in the front, and another car that’s barely turned over. It’s shaking and rattling, and he backs that out. He puts it in neutral and it’s just sitting there idly. He comes back in and gives me the keys. I asked him if he realized how much space there was between the door and the carrier and I couldn't get in the car. He’s a skinny guy so he gets in the car. I told him to wind the window down, get out of the car and let me see if I can hold on the top of the carrier, and I’ll get in like a racecar driver. So, that’s what I did. And the moment I turned on that car, I was in heaven. The sound of that car gave me goosebumps, and I backed it up probably about a half a mile per hour, super slow.

I drive around all the cars and I said that I got to inspect this because it was way dustier than what the photo showed. I looked at it and it was perfect. Finally, my wife started talking to the two other people that wanted to talk to me but I said that I gotta get this in the garage and check it out. The driver was gonna leave and once he leaves, if there were any problems, it’s sorry, Charlie. Then, we paid the driver and he was all smiles because it was 1s, 5s, 10s, 20s and 50s. We hadn't had a chance to go to the bank to just give him a 100. And he got in his trailer. It was a very nice experience.

I put a quote online, and Ship A Car, Inc. reached out and they were communicative about helping me out. And when I finally found the time and date, they helped me organize everything and it was smooth. There were only one or two minor hiccups which they helped resolve. During the transport, one of the truck drivers decided they didn't want to pick up the car on Saturday, that they would leave on Friday. So, it wasn't communicated to the team, and they had somebody else pick up the car that was a single trailer. But the single trailer would bring it back to the home base rather than a direct ship and I wasn't aware of that. But I just had to make a few calls. The guy communicated with me throughout the day to find a good time and a good drop-off spot. I live in a busy area, so we tried to meet in the parking lot, but didn't work that well. So, we decided to meet on a big road and the guy was good.

Thank you Bai, for your Review on transporting your vehicle Enclosed. I do know some of these big long trailers open or enclosed car carriers, have a difficult time in the big city of New York, sometimes they need to send in someone with the smaller trailer for pickup and shuttle it to the big trailer that it will be going cross country in. We only use the carriers that have the highest ratings to do this job, and I’m glad to see that your car looked perfect on delivery. We pride ourselves in providing the best service possible, and we are here to help if there are any issues that arise during your transport. If you should need your vehicle moved again, I hope you would give me a call. Kristina at Ship A Car Inc.
