Everything was great until we got to the payment options because they quickly glanced over the fact that if I made a cash payment, I would get a discount. They gave me a price for a cash payment instead of a credit card and when I mentioned that I wanted to do a credit card payment, they said it was gonna be more expensive. So, that was a little bit of a surprise at the end, because this might be the standard in this industry, but it's not for me. I don't do cash payments other than probably the lawn mowing guy or these types of workers. And with the $2,000 service that they were charging me, I wasn't expecting to do any cash payment. So, that sounded a little bit fishy. I was about to cancel the whole contract but we were able to navigate through it. I decided to pay a little bit more and ultimately, I ended up paying cash. But it was the back and forth around that topic that wasn't made clear from the get-go.

For a trustworthy, reputable company, it’s odd that SGT would still manage their business with these practices. I understand why they do it. Ultimately, they have to pay the driver but we're in the 21st century and cash payment is not acceptable for this type of transaction anymore. You're moving across states and you're stressed with the whole move process. You're shipping your cars so you're not traveling in your comfort zone and you still have to stress about landing in the airport, picking up cash or traveling with that much cash and then paying the driver whenever they deliver the car. So, that's the only piece that I was disappointed with in the big scheme of things. It didn't seem like a good practice. The driver was super helpful, accommodating and did a good job. So, that part was one of the best parts of the whole process. And the car’s condition was perfect. It was just as I expected.

When he got here, my vehicle was one of three on the transport that he had. He had to get the other two then mine off and we signed the paperwork. Once he got it off, I inspected it and it met my expectations. You could tell that they did everything safely as far as securing it and the vehicles behind. I was very happy with how it looked and at that stage, we gave him the check. They cut the price a little bit based on what they originally gave me.

There were some slight issues because he was foreign and had not been very long with the new company but we were able to communicate enough. I bought a Tesla which he had never done but he was fine getting it off. He figured it out. Everything worked out perfectly. It was pretty much seamless as far as working with the gentleman that I called and each call that I had with him in the process. Everything was pretty much how I would hope it would go. I wouldn't hesitate to use SGT Auto again and would recommend them.

During the pickup, some guy called, said he couldn't pick up the car, so he asked to meet up at a certain place and the process was quick. At the drop-off point, I called the driver and he told me that he was also looking at the map. He said he saw that he could just drop it off at the street where I was at. It was winter at the time, so all the snow was melting and the car came out really dirty. But that was also because I chose the cheapest option and I knew that the vehicle wasn't going to be as protected as having it transported while it's enclosed in the trailer. But besides that, there was no issue, the vehicle ran fine, and there wasn't any new scratch. It was well taken care of. All in all, I like the service and I'm going to use it again.

They came up with one price. I didn't like the idea that they wanted half at the beginning and it would be half in cash at the time of arrival. I'm not for the cash thing. I told them, “I'll pay for the whole thing right now. Just get the vehicle there. I don't want to hassle with going and getting cash.” Shipping companies bait you in with this low price. Then if you don't do it exactly how they want, which would be half down and then the other half in cash, it goes up. That was what happened in my case. It ended up being $150 more because I didn't select to pay the cash at the time of drop-off. They could make it more cut-and-dried.

Originally, I told them I needed the truck picked up by a specific date. That was on a Friday. They said that they would try but didn't pick up that date. Then I received a text asking if the truck was ready. I responded yes but never got a text back. That was on Saturday. I got another text saying that they were gonna be there. It was Sunday night. Then I got a call saying that they were not gonna make it Sunday night. It’d be Monday. That was a bad thing. I didn't have a definite pick up time. But once the person said they were coming, then it was detailed when they were gonna be there. The driver was very professional. Their equipment wasn't fly-by-night stuff. They had a nice truck. I could have got it done cheaper, but for the money, I was satisfied. The truck got delivered when they said it was gonna be delivered. I wanted the vehicle to be checked over. They had the shop look over the truck and make sure there wasn't anything wrong. I would use SGT again and recommend them.

SGT got the job done and the best thing about them is the price. But they’re the only company I've ever used that tries to get more money out of you after they commit to a price. You book it and then two days later, they say they need to get more money. I just make them stick to their number. Every time, it’s been a call between saying they can do it faster if they can do it for this amount. I tell them I don’t care and that they’re gonna do it with the number that they told me and if they’re not, I’m gonna go with somebody else. It's annoying because to ship your vehicle is a process as it is. As soon as they give your number to the people who are shipping it, then you're trying to communicate. It's a hassle because I don't speak Spanish. You'll get somebody that will call you and you hardly understand what they're saying. But if I spoke Spanish, maybe it would be no big deal.

One of the things I appreciated was the straightforward military discount application. Unlike other services that require ID for validation, SGT trusted my word, which made the process smoother. The cost was also reasonable; $300 felt fair given the long distance, especially compared to the potential costs and hassle of driving myself. While I can't comment on the cost of shipping a car, I feel like anything over $1000 would be excessive.

If someone were to ask about my experience with SGT Auto, I'd say that while you might pay a bit more, the service and communication were reliable. Overall, the service was satisfactory, and I would give them 4 out of 5 stars for the overall experience and 3 stars for the price.

I received a call from them Monday morning, informing me that they had been closed Saturday when I placed and cancelled my order, but that the contract I signed call for a $149 cancellation fee! Even though they had literally done no work to fulfill my order! He asked how they could keep my business. I told him Montway Auto Transport was picking up my car today. In the fine print of their 11-page contract (which I admit not taking the time to carefully read--who does?) they list 6 reasons they can charge a $149 cancellation fee, while at the same time stating they can cancel the order at any time (apparently without penalty to them--what a double-standard):

(F) Cancellation occurs due to delays to the estimated pickup window caused by customer requests to change the completed Customer Shipping Contract (CSC) or by not completing the Customer Shipping Contract (CSC).

....SGT reserves the right to cancel the order at any time, at SGT’s discretion. Additional fees may apply per our Dispute and Collections policy."

I write this review in hopes of sparing future potential customers similar distress and financial gouging. I highly recommend Montway Auto Transport. Good luck to you!
