How long is the CPO warranty on a Range Rover?

The CPO warranty on a Range Rover is the same as you’d get with any CPO Land Rover: a 1-year/unlimited miles bumper-to-bumper warranty.

To put that number into context, all new Land Rovers and Range Rovers come with a 4-year/50,000 miles bumper-to-bumper warranty from the factory. Like most factory warranties, it automatically transfers to new owners until it expires. So if you purchase a 1-year-old Range Rover with 10,000 miles on it, you’ll still have 3 years/40,000 miles left on its original factory warranty.

When you purchase a CPO Range Rover, Land Rover essentially tacks on one extra year to your remaining factory warranty period. So the day your factory warranty expires (when your Range Rover turns 4 years old or reaches 50,000 miles), you’ll have one more year of bumper-to-bumper coverage with no mileage limit.

Since the industry-standard CPO warranty is around 1 year/12,000 miles, one year with no mileage cap is slightly better than average.

“Certified Range Rovers come with one additional year of bumper-to-bumper coverage, and if you want to upgrade that to two years, you’re looking at paying around $3,000 extra,” they told us.

Range Rover CPO eligibility and inspection requirements

Before a used Range Rover can earn certified pre-owned status, it needs to meet Land Rover's eligibility criteria and pass a comprehensive inspection. Understanding these requirements helps you gauge whether you're getting a thoroughly vetted vehicle or just a standard used car with a warranty.

Here are the basic eligibility requirements:

• No more than 5 years old
• Fewer than 60,000 miles
• Clean title with no major accidents or structural damage

The key difference between a CPO Range Rover and a standard used one is the reconditioning process. While regular used vehicles might get a basic safety check and detail, CPO vehicles undergo Land Rover's 165-point inspection performed by factory-trained technicians. Any components that don't meet manufacturer standards get replaced with genuine Land Rover parts before certification.

How much does a certified pre-owned Range Rover cost?

We found 1,148 pre-owned Range Rovers nationwide with an average price of $98,841 and 454 CPO Range Rovers with an average price of $105,763. That’s a difference of $6,922, or 7% over the cost of pre-owned.

To find out, ConsumerAffairs went to Edmunds.com to compare the cost of a CPO Range Rover to a regular pre-owned Range Rover with similar ages and miles. We also factored out special editions that were priced over $200,000, as well as any listings with accidents or major issues reported.

For context, the average price difference between pre-owned and CPO vehicles across brands is around 6%, so for Land Rover dealers to ask for 7% more is reasonable.

While the percentage might make sense, 7% of $100,000 is still $7,000. Is it really worth paying that much extra?

Is a CPO Range Rover worth it?

Generally speaking, it’s more likely to be worth buying a CPO vehicle if:

• The vehicle you’re considering has a below-average reputation for reliability
• The cost to buy CPO over pre-owned isn’t exorbitant
• The warranty and benefits justify the CPO upcharge
• You don’t mind paying for added peace of mind

In the case of a CPO Range Rover, we’ve established that the CPO upcharge isn’t unreasonable (at least, percentage-wise) and that the included warranty and benefits are both pretty solid.

So let’s look at just how reliable Range Rovers are.

Range rover reliability

In its 2025 Vehicle Dependability Study, J.D. Power ranked Land Rover No. 26 out of 30 overall, with an average of 270 problems per 100 vehicles (PP100) within three years of production. For reference, the study average was 202 PP100.

Consumer Reports lacked sufficient data to rank Land Rover overall, but it did give the 2024 Range Rover a predicted reliability score of just 2 out of 5.

Finally, RepairPal also gave the Range Rover a reliability rating of just 2 out of 5, with estimated annual repair and maintenance costs that were roughly 12% higher than your average luxury full-size SUV — and nearly double the average vehicle in general.

Land Rover’s notoriously poor reputation for long-term reliability suggests that if you invest nearly $100,000 in a pre-owned Range Rover, you’ll likely want to get as much warranty protection with it as possible.

Best and worst Range Rover model years

If you're shopping for a CPO Range Rover, the 2019 and newer model years generally offer better reliability than earlier generations. These newer models benefited from improved quality control and refinements to problematic systems that plagued earlier versions.

Model years to be cautious about include the 2013 to 2016 range, which experienced higher-than-average issues with electrical systems, air suspension failures and engine problems. The 2017 to 2018 models showed some improvement but still had notable reliability concerns.

Given the brand's overall reliability challenges, we recommend focusing your CPO search on 2019 or newer Range Rovers. These vehicles are more likely to still have some factory warranty remaining and represent Land Rover's most refined offerings to date.

In conclusion, purchasing your Range Rover as CPO is a solid option. For around $7,000 extra you’ll get

• A 165-point quality inspection by a trained Land Rover technician
• A one-year/unlimited-mile extension of your factory bumper-to-bumper warranty (or one year from the date you purchase the Range Rover if you have no factory warranty left)
• One year of 24/7 roadside assistance and trip interruption reimbursement

CPO vs. extended warranties for Range Rovers

While Land Rover’s CPO package is probably a good investment given the high cost and frequency of Range Rover repairs, let’s see if an extended warranty can offer a more cost-effective solution.

In our full breakdown of Land Rover's extended warranty, we found that the average cost of additional bumper-to-bumper coverage was around $1,800 to $2,500 per year of coverage. If you can stomach having a $250 deductible (versus $0 with CPO), that might be a far more cost-effective option than paying around $7,000 for one year with CPO.

That being said, if you choose to skip CPO in favor of a regular pre-owned Range Rover with an extended warranty, we strongly recommend that you invest $200 in a pre-purchase inspection (PPI). You may even consider scheduling a PPI on a CPO Range Rover, too, just so you can get a second opinion on the car’s condition (that isn’t coming from the dealership trying to sell it to you).

After all, $200 isn’t much to pay for added peace of mind on a $100,000 investment.

To sum it up, choose CPO if:

• You value manufacturer-backed coverage with no deductible
• You want the 165-point inspection guarantee before purchase
• The vehicle you're considering is already CPO-certified
• You prefer dealing directly with Land Rover dealerships for repairs

Choose a standard pre-owned vehicle with extended warranty if:

• You're comfortable with a $250 deductible per repair
• You can find a quality non-CPO Range Rover at a significantly lower price
• You're willing to invest in an independent pre-purchase inspection
• The longer coverage term (three to five years) outweighs the benefits of one year of CPO
