      Porsche Cayenne extended warranty overview

An extended warranty from Porsche, which the company calls a vehicle service protection (VSP) plan or an electric vehicle service protection (EVSP) plan, extends the coverage included in the factory warranty.

Here’s a breakdown of what that original warranty covers:

      • Replacement parts and accessories: Porsche covers replacements for defective parts for up to 2 years/24,000 miles.
      • Bumper-to-bumper warranty: The base auto warranty covers all vehicle systems and most components for 4 years/50,000 miles. This also includes 24-hour roadside assistance.
      • Corrosion warranty: Porsche covers corrosion-related perforations for 12 years with no mileage limit.
      • Emissions warranty on ICE vehicles: Porsche guarantees compliance with federal emissions regulations for 8 years/80,000 miles and compliance with California emissions regulations for 7 years/70,000 miles.
      • High-voltage battery warranty on electric vehicles (EVs): The high-voltage battery is covered for 8 years/100,000 miles. The warranty also guarantees that the battery won’t lose more than 20% of its capacity in the first 3 years/37,500 miles or more than 30% in the first 8 years/100,000 miles.

You can also buy an optional extended warranty from Porsche to extend that coverage beyond the initial terms — up to 10 years or 100,000 miles. You can continue bumper-to-bumper coverage or choose powertrain-only coverage. The extended warranty takes effect when the original factory warranty expires.

Plans available from Porsche Financial Services require you to opt in within your original manufacturer’s warranty period. After that point, your Cayenne is no longer eligible for extended coverage from the dealer.

Porsche Cayenne extended warranty plan options

Porsche offers two extended warranty plans for ICE-powered Cayennes and one for electric Cayennes. Coverage can last up to 10 years/100,000 miles.

      • Powertrain Protection Plan: This is a powertrain warranty that covers your engine, transmission and drive axles. This provides basic coverage at a lower cost, but it also includes some of the most expensive components on your Cayenne.
      • Platinum Protection Plan: This plan covers everything in the Powertrain Protection Plan, plus the suspension, steering, brakes, fuel, electrical and climate control systems. It also covers navigation, audio and Bluetooth components.

Electric Cayennes are only eligible for the Platinum Protection Plan. It provides comprehensive coverage similar to the ICE-powered Platinum plan but covers electrical drivetrain components instead of a combustion engine and fuel system.

Porsche Cayenne extended warranty cost factors

A Porsche extended warranty for a Cayenne costs between $3,500 and $11,000 at the time of publishing. This is significantly more expensive than most third-party extended warranties, which average between $1,800 and $5,000.

The Cayenne is a luxury vehicle, though, so repairs and replacements tend to be more expensive. Porsche repairs and maintenance average $1,192 per year, compared with $652 across all vehicles.

Your extended warranty costs can also vary based on:

Porsche coverage costs more, but may be worth it

Porsche repairs and maintenance average $1,192 per year — 83% more than the average across all vehicles.

      • Coverage tier: The level of coverage you want for your Cayenne is the most influential cost factor for ICE models. The comprehensive Platinum plan will cost more than the limited powertrain coverage. For EV models, average costs will be higher because there’s no powertrain-only option.
      • Model year: Most dealers increase the cost of coverage as your vehicle ages. You’ll usually see the lowest price if you purchase your extended warranty when you buy your new Cayenne, or before your car turns 1 year old.
      • Mileage: Most dealers also charge more as you approach the mileage limit of your factory warranty. Buying extended coverage before you hit 12,000 miles will usually lead to the lowest prices.
      • Contract term: Longer coverage will always cost more, so 10-year contracts will be the most expensive. However, you’ll often see lower per-year costs the longer your coverage is.
      • Deductible option: Porsche lets you choose either a $100 or a $250 deductible. Lower deductibles mean lower out-of-pocket costs per repair but higher upfront contract costs. The $100 deductible might be worth the added upfront cost if you plan to take your Porsche to the dealer where you bought it, since Porsche waives it when repairs are performed there.
      • Location: Each Porsche dealer has flexibility in pricing extended warranty coverage, so where you live and the specific dealer you visit can influence your costs.

Porsche Cayenne extended warranty buying tips

If you know you want an extended auto warranty for your Cayenne, you can use the following tips to get the lowest price and the most value possible:

      • Buy coverage as early as possible: The later you get into your factory warranty coverage, the more expensive your plan is likely to be. Getting extended coverage at the time of purchase or within the first year and 12,000 miles will keep costs as low as possible.
      • Get at least three estimates: Compare prices from local and online Porsche dealers, which may charge different amounts for the same coverage.
      • Read your contract carefully: Always read terms and conditions carefully, and make sure you specifically understand the exclusions.
      • Don’t forget about the perks: Ask about additional benefits, like roadside assistance, trip interruption and rental car reimbursement.
      • Consider negotiating: If you prefer to purchase from a local dealer but get better pricing from an online-only dealer, ask for price matching. You can also try to negotiate the cost of your contract, especially if your Cayenne is still under its factory warranty.

        FAQ

What year of the Porsche Cayenne should you avoid?

Some of the most problematic years for the Porsche Cayenne include 2019 and 2020. Both models have had seven total recalls, more than any other model year since 2003. The 2020 SUV model has 16 complaints on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website, and the 2019 model has 34. The 2012, 2017 and 2018 model years also had an unusually high number of recalls.

Can you cancel a Porsche Cayenne extended warranty?

Yes, you can cancel a Porsche Cayenne extended warranty at no cost within 30 days or for a fee after that.

Are third-party extended warranties good for the Porsche Cayenne?

Third-party extended warranties can be a good option for a Porsche Cayenne, especially if Porsche-backed coverage is unavailable or too expensive. Cayennes can be costly to repair, and third-party plans typically cost less than Porsche coverage. However, check whether the plan covers genuine Porsche parts and repairs at Porsche dealerships before buying.

What does Porsche’s certified preowned (CPO) warranty cover?

Porsche’s CPO warranty covers your engine, fuel system, engine cooling system, powertrain, suspension system, steering assembly, brakes, climate control system, electrical system and body components. Coverage lasts for two years from the date of sale with no mileage limit.

Is a Porsche Cayenne extended warranty worth it?

Though a Porsche Cayenne’s extended warranty may be pricey, the vehicle’s repairs and maintenance cost significantly more than those of other vehicles. So the extended warranty is likely worth it.
