Range Rover Evoque engine blows up less than 25,000 miles. Vehicle recovered into a dealership by assist in October and still yet to be seen. Keep getting fobbed off with flimsy excuses by the dealership, supplied with sub-standard courtesy vehicles and no-one seems to care about the customer service side. False promises and awful communications. The vehicles may be fashionable and desirable, but the mechanicals are poor and the company does not give a hoot. Do not fall in to the same trap and buy one of their vehicles - you will be disappointed.

Bought a 2013 Range Rover Evoque from the dealer in August 2014 with 10,000 miles on it. Problems: Nav Screen wouldn't come on and flicker at will... (The dealer had to change the screen). AC wouldn't work. (Dealer had to work on it twice). Car stops in the middle of the road, poor battery... How can It stop in the middle? (dealer changed the battery). Engine Check Light: Oxygen sensor was gone. (Dealer said they replaced it). Engine Check Light came on again... 34,000 miles on it now.

We purchased a Range Rover Sport in March 2015 and we have had issues since we bought it. License plate fell off while driving 3 times even after we took it back on day 2 of owning it and they said it wouldn't come off again. That was fun to find. Week 3 of ownership the check engine light came on. Took it in to have it serviced and was told it was just an oxygen sensor and they had fixed it. Week 4 of ownership, check engine light back on, back in for service for 3 days and they said they fixed it but may need to order an oxygen sensor if it comes back on.
Week 8 of ownership I was sitting at a stop light. When the light turned green the car would not go and showed a display of put in drive (or something similar), the car was in drive. I had to shut the car off and it still wouldn't engage in drive. I put the car in low gear and got it off the road. After a little while I started the car and it went back in gear. Called the dealer and they said it would have to go completely out for them to be able to do anything and that it must have been a glitch. This happened 3 more times. Week 12 of ownership display won't respond to touch until car is off and restarted.
After 6 months of owning the car the "coolant low" alert shows up and the check engine light is back on. Back in for service. They change the oxygen sensor and tell me that my water pump needs to be changed and that my car needed an update that would fix the display issue and the car not going into drive. Went to dealership because my car is in for service again. Thought we would trade it in to get rid of the thing. They say they can't certify it is a pre owned special because of all the issues and it will take them forever to get the issues fixed.
I'm losing money. An $80K car should last longer than 6 months. Why should I lose money when the car they sold me is a POC? Land Rover should pay off my car and give me back my down payment in full. I was warned that Land Rover wasn't the quality that I was looking for but I liked the car and decided to give it a chance. I learned my lesson the hard way.

I bought a 2016 Range Rover and was happy with the transaction until the first time that I washed the car (3 weeks after purchase). I discovered spots on the sides of the car that actually changed the color of the paint. The spots were caused by the tire dressing that was on the USED upgraded rims which were represented as being brand new by the dealership. I know that they were used because 3 weeks after the purchase, the sales manager accidentally told me that they had 7,000 miles on them.
I took the car to a detail shop and a body shop to see if they could get the spots out, and both places said that they have seen these same type of spots before. They stated that the spots came from the wrong type of tire dressing splashing up on to the paint and they can change the color of the paint to the point that you have to strip the car and repaint. It is especially noticeable on white paint (my Range Rover is white). This dealership took NO responsibility for the spots that were caused by them and I'm being forced to sue them. I am extremely disappointed in Ventura Land Rover and would never recommend them to anyone. Go to the Westlake Land Rover, they will treat you fairly. I bought my previous Range Rover from them and I should have stuck with them, they were excellent.

Range Rover sport HSE 2010 - As I read some of these reviews I realize that this scam bags at dealership did not disclose that these cars had to be recalled. I bought mine at November of 2010. Within the first month my navigation and center council kept on shooting off. They could or fix this even though the tech from England tried to remotely fix this. After thirty days they replaced the entire wiring and later on I sue and won 8k. Then I see the same violent leak and it was water pump and I have this again after 4 years. Then the gauge in the gas tank broke/stuck and I was left in middle of highway. Beautiful car even after 4 years but crappy workmanship. My boomers are coming out and body shop is telling me he does not like to fix it as any time he touches these cars something else break and does not worth for him.

I have a 2010 RR Sport HSE and I have been having an issue with the battery needing a jump start from time to time, and I assume it was from all the corrosion around it... However I needed a boost and after it took a good 5 minutes to get started, after we removed the cables, the inside lights cut off, the truck ran for 1 minute and died again... I also noticed it has a leak and the coolant is leaking out... Can anyone shed light on why the battery is not keeping a charge even after the corrosion was removed and then the head led lights were flashing on and off... Has anyone ever encountered an issue like this and what could it be?

Numerous problems with turbo not engaging. Several trips to dealership for "computer resets" etc. ** from the sales/service folks. Still left hanging in traffic with accelerator pressed, no response, then kick in and thrown back in seat. Most dangerous vehicle ever. Horns continuously blowing because I won't "go" at stop lights. Random overhead lights come on for no reason. If your brakes get close to 50% worn, you must replace the rotors! So I'm about $1k into brakes at 34000 miles. Pretty is all its got going for it. Place that sold it to me for 41k offered me 31k 10000 miles later. And it still won't accelerate! Waiting on recall or to invoke the Lemon Law. Land rover service is so far behind BMW as to be in another category altogether. The L for luxury actually stands for Lemon when it comes to Evoque! I want my $$$ back!

I have a 2013 Land Rover Evoque. This is by far the worse car that I have ever had. This car has had the most issues and it's only 2 years old. My oxygen sensor light has been on since May. Dealer says I don't tighten my gas cap. What was I doing before then. Last week the vehicle wouldn't start, surely it's not the battery. I take it in for service and I'm told it's the battery and they can't tell me why all these warnings are popping up; battery is $350. I go get a battery installed but the car keeps saying gear box fault. From reading all the posts. I'm scared to drive it. My headlights don't work properly. I can only drive at night with my fog lights on. The service man says my battery would solve a lot. When does a battery fix headlights. Guess what? I have a new battery but my lights still don't work. I have been on the Internet for 4 hours. I see a new vehicle in my immediate future.

I have even more issues with this car. It gets stuck in neutral and the car has to be fully shut down and restarted. The navigation shuts down en route to a destination. Just goes blank. Now my battery died overnight and it is a nightmare because I have no car tomorrow morning and they don't bring you a loaner. Range Rover is a nightmare. I've had more issues with this car in 3 months than any other car in 5 years.

I purchased a 2015 Land Rover LR4 HSE LUX in December 2014. A couple weeks later I started hearing an intermittent high-pitched sound from the dash. I have not been able to pinpoint what causes the noise. It doesn't matter whether or not I have the heat or AC on. I have had the car back to the dealership several times, for weeks at a time. They have admitted there is a problem, but they have not identified a "fix." They have told me 3 other customers at my local dealership have the same complaint, but they have no answers. I have been in touch with both Land Rover North America Headquarters and the BBB. I have tried to evoke the SC Lemon Law. I have been told the noise does not qualify because it is not a safety issue. So here I am with a very expensive car that makes an obnoxious high-pitched noise and I can do nothing about it. I have never been more frustrated!

This one could have left me paralyzed, but it didn't and I just want answers. 2013 RR Evoque, parked in my driveway that is about a 1-2% incline. Placed in park, car was on, not moving.
Went to check mail with door open, noticed back tire rolling back. Ran to car to try to catch the brake with right foot. Could not reach brake as momentum was building with car moving down driveway. Fell on back, tried to brace door with left leg and realized the car was in gear!! Car wish-boned my legs over my head and door ran over me. Car rolled across street into deep ditch, caught by two trees and was stopped. I hobbled over to car after two face plants into street as I felt hamstrings snap! I entered car, was in a little shock so I did not even look at or remember what gear car was in, I just put it in drive and it drove out.

I bought a 2015 LR4 in March, and thought I would share some information with prospective buyers. Land Rover USA has admitted that there is a problem in the air conditioning system of the 2015 LR4s, a problem that causes a high pitched whistle to be emitted from the dashboard area whenever the air conditioner is on (as it often is if you live in Texas). Land Rover says this is a "characteristic" of the 2015 LR4s, and have offered no fix for the problem. If you are considering purchasing an LR4, I would seriously reconsider, until Land Rover has a fix for this issue. Though the dealership has tried, they have been unable to fix the problem, and my car has spent over 40 days in the shop since I purchased it.

I was always told that these are good vehicles. Just very costly to fix. I went ahead and purchased the Rover anyway, and took a chance. It ran good for 5 months, engine light came on, had it looked at and it would come on randomly. Never could get it repaired correctly. I then was driving in a mountain area here in Colorado, when I heard a heavy thumping from underneath the Rover. Got out in the snow and ice and realized my front drive shaft broke at the u-joint which are machined on by a press. When it was flopping around it hit the transmission housing and cracked the pumpkin. So when the front drive shaft went, it also took out the transmission. I'M now driving a Volkswagen jetta that I couldn't be happier with while the Land Rover is sitting out back collecting weeds and dirt wondering if I should even fix the damn thing. I'M very disappointed with the Land Rover title.

I have written a review before on this site but this time after 6 years of being in court with Land Rover. I can now tell you everything what has happened. First I have owned 6 Range Rovers and up to the last one I bought from Lloyd's Land Rover in Carlisle UK dealer. I had little or no problems with the cars. But then I bought a new sport HSE with the new Jaguar engine 3 litre. From the start this car was a lemon. After only driving less than 200 miles I had a fault when I was driving along it would pull up for no reason.
I would then ring Lloyd's of Carlisle up and complain that the car has stopped again. This happened several times. I was getting sick. I had just bought this car at a cost of over 65 thousand pound of my very hard earned money. At that price you would think you would have no trouble. This was not the case.
I told the garage that I wanted the car fixed so I was asked by Lloyd's of Carlisle to take the car in and could I leave it for 3 days. I agreed to this. On the third day Lloyds rang me up and told me that the car was fixed and I would have no more bother with it again. This was on the Friday around 5:30 that weekend we used my wife's car as my new Range Rover had let us down so many times before.
On the Monday morning I got into the Range Rover 30th November 2009. I was going to a site meeting at Lochmaben. This was the first phase of 30 houses we started for DGHP possible 5 thousand houses that was getting upgraded and I had a chance of that work. When I was driving the car just out of Lloyd's of Carlisle I reached a speed of between 60 - 70 MPH. All of a sudden without warning the cars brakes activated and I came to an abrupt stop. I hit my head on the headrest. Also my left hand was pushed into the steering wheel. I did not know what had happened at all. It was so fast. At first I did think something hit me from the rear but when I gained composure nothing had hit me. The only way I could describe what happened was it was like an emergency stop. I was very angry. I rang the garage from the car and told them what had happened that I was rejecting the car. I did not want it anymore.
When I got to the garage I told ** all about it. By this time my neck was hurting a bit also my left hand. Lloyd's gave me a loan car and I was told that somebody would ring me later that day. I drove home rang the site gave my apologies told them what had happened that I would not be on site that day. As the day went on my neck got worse so I decided not to go in that week. I struggled on for about 8 week until my wife forced me to go to the doctors from that day. The rest was history. I was x-rayed and I was told that I had shattered my neck after 3 operations on my spine. I am now in a wheelchair and never worked from that day.
I had to pay off my workers and close my company down. I lost out in a big way a contract worth tens of thousands of pounds. I tried to sort it out with Land Rover but it was a joke. I was offered 20 thousand pounds plus replacement car at no charge. To me I accepted the car but when that was delivered after about 25 miles it developed the same problem. I was so angry but when I phoned up Lloyd's of Carlisle I was told that the problem had been found and had been recalled. It went in. I was told it had sensors replaced and software upgrade had been done.
I sold the car soon after but that car before it had done 20 thousand miles the engine had blown up. I did not know about all the problems Jaguar Land Rover had with their cars. If I did I would not be in the condition I am today as I could not sort out some sort of compensation with them and decided to take them to courtafter the biggest cover up by Land Rover in court. They lied in court to win committed perjury. The judge also said to me that I was trying to besmirch the good name of a first class company. He was under the impression that nothing like I said went wrong with their product don't know if he got a new car out of it or not.
All I know is that after six year it was a farce. The only problem is I don't have the money to take them to the high court in London.
If there is anyone out there has similar faults with their Range Rovers give me a call or email me as if something is not done to sort out this company. Someone will be killed because of the cars they make. According to Land Rover nothing ever goes wrong with their cars? Email is ** phone is **. Feel free to call or email me. It would help. Thanks.

My wife and 6 year old child were in the car with me when this happen. Cars behind me had to slam on their brakes because my Evoque was slowing at a fast rate and I had no power to get out of the way. From my perspective, I've had far too many issues with this $55K SUV. I purchased the car from Land Rover (Lake Bluff) as a lightly driven dealer demo (approximately 2,500 miles on the odometer). Current mileage is 15K. Since buying the car I've had it into the dealer for several small issues - trim on driver seat popped off, driver seat squeaking and noise, car stalled during a rain store due to water getting into turbo charger intake, driver side headlight burned out, seal around back hatch was damaged due to design of hatch (not covered by LR), under carriage splash guard broke while driving on snowy/icy Chicago toll way (not covered by LR). Not very impressive for a car that still smells new.
Prior to this, I owned an LR2 for (3) years. Great car but I had a ton of issues with the AWD system, car was at the dealer multiple times for the same issue. LR finally agreed to pay to replace the entire AWD on my 4th or 5th visit. Constant leaking problems from rear of car. Paid $35K for this car. My first LR was a 1999 4.6 HSE. Loved this car but it also had tons of issues. Electrical, leaks, air ride system failure, airbags, engine leaks, interior (head liner), exhaust system, computer issues (heating/cooling), etc. - $76K vehicle. LR gave me $1,200 for a trade w/ 80K on the odometer.

The fact that they are endangering me and fiancée’s life by letting me drives a car that is seriously defective. Causes me to question the intentions of the companies risk management practices and their exposure in the event of an accident. I have made several telephone complaints throughout the years and have taken the vehicle in for various repairs but more importantly it is the engine/turbocharger issue that endangers my fiancée’s life when the vehicle is not operating properly. It will not accelerate and I will have to turn off the engine and restart the car. This is very unsafe and has been in the shop for over 44 days over a 24 months period. This was a brand new Range Rover Evoque -2013.
As stated in the Motor Vehicle Warranty and Lemon Law we notified Land Rover of our intentions to have them buy back the car. Case Number #**. We began the request for a repurchase from Land Rover for the purchase or buyback for our 2013 Range Rover Evoque under the California Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act. They feel that they be didn’t have enough attempts that make the value of safety of car worthy of this act. They did offer a goodwill gesture of $1500 however by offering the money; they are acknowledging that there are numerous issues with this 2013 Range Rover Evoque.
After being in the shop numerous times for Turbo Charger/Engine issues, we again took it in for service again in February 12, 2015, we didn't get it back until February 20th, 2015 and it will still need to go back to the shop. Mile 29924 (7 Days). The check engine light is on again, and it’s lacking power, and is red lining at 6000 RPM before it shifts gears. Joe went on test drive with the technician and the service writer to show them what he means. The technicians stated to Joe with the service writer in the car that something wasn't right with the turbocharger and that the engine was working too hard which is why it was causing it to shift at such a high RPM, however the Land Rover agent, is trying to say it’s something else.
In reviewing the most recent paperwork, I don’t see why it would take 7 days to fix a bulb, which is how the latest service repair reads, nothing about Joe going on the test drive, and showing the red lining of the RPMs before it shift. They stated in the service contract that it was the thermostat regulator is not performing, they needed to do an update. There is no documentation that was witnessed by the Service Writer and the Technician that Joe went on the test drive and showed them it was red lining in the report or the notes. Which leads me to questions how truthful and forthcoming they have been with writing all the other service reports in Land Rovers favor.
In Summation - THE "LEMON LAW" AND WHAT IS A REASONABLE NUMBER OF REPAIR ATTEMPTS
According The Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act (beginning with Civil Code section 1790) we qualify for the lemon law and protection for a newly leased vehicle, when a dealer is unable to meet the terms express written warranty after a reasonable number of repair attempts, the manufacture is required to promptly replace the vehicle or return the purchase price of the lessee or buyer.
SECTION (B-1) This is an UNSAFE vehicle and in the event I cannot accelerate through traffic or end up in an accident because of the poor quality of the engine and number of attempts to replace the turbo engine/charger is now going on its third repair. And it is currently back in for service repair again (February 12, 2015 5 days and counting) with the check engine light on.
According to the mechanic that did a ride along with Joe **, it’s back in the shop because the engines is working overtime, and redline shifts at 6000 RPM, again making it unsafe to drive. The dealership since then knowingly put me back into a car that had numerous Turbocharger and engine problems and therefore doesn’t consider my life and safety to be a concern for them with this many engine attempts to fix a bad Engine/Turbocharger issue.
If I get into an accident because of the lack of power/engine/turbocharger, and get T-boned by on-coming traffic and end up in the hospital, only then they would consider purchasing back the car? Or by then I could be dead, so then I guess they would win because they wouldn't have to buy back the car and just have a lawsuit on their hands for wrongful death.
SECTION (B -2) within the first 18,000 miles or 18 months these problems are still happening and the same problem like engine/turbocharger issues where I cannot accelerate to move out of oncoming traffic can cause death or serious bodily injury, and has been subject to repair two or more times by the manufacturer! Are they waiting for me to get in a horrible accident and then I would qualify for the LIFE THREATENING incident?
SECTION (B-3) The vehicle is out of service because of the number of repairs and problems this 2013 Range Rover Evoque is having and although the manufacturer has made a number of attempts, the car is still very problematic. This vehicle has a cumulative total of more than 30 days since the delivery of the vehicle; it is actually now going on 44 days and counting.
Despite repeated attempts at repair by Land Rover Service, the 2013 Range Rover Evoque still remains defective and therefore there has been a failure and refusal to conform the product to its express warranty under the law.
In closing, and just a personal question to whoever is reading this…in looking over the services records, would you let your 16 year old son or daughter drive this vehicle? Would you be comfortable buying this car from me knowing the service/repair history I have attached. Can you honestly say you would feel comfortable driving this car yourself?

Months ago we purchased a new Evoque and drove out to Death Valley for the Thanksgiving vacation. Running on the dirt road was very enjoyable till we had a flat tire. Well, flat tire should not be a problem at all since this is a new car and there is spare tire. The real problem happened when we noticed that the wheel has the special lock key bolt, and the car does NOT equipped with the tool to take off that special bolt! And there is no cell phone signal and we could not make a help call!
The following time in that day was quite long. We were not able to change the spare tire, had to stay in the desert, waited from morning to afternoon till a car passed by. The gentlemen helped to carry me miles away where we could eventually make the call to road service. The truck finally came in after it was getting complete dark. We were carried to Las Vegas which has the Land Rover dealer. The next day was Thanksgiving so no one work. We had to wait one extra day before the flat tire can be fixed. We finally came back home safely. But the small mistake and the missed tool has given so much trouble and made the vacation such an unpleasant experience. And a complaint sent to the dealer, received no response at all till today...

Ranger rover evoque 2014 - Just got this vehicle few months back. Dealership at Flatiron tried to sell us with extra tags... but that's another story which was the start of the poor customer service. So vehicle was working perfectly until we took it back to the center for some updates they called us for with a letter. We get the car back, door floor lights stopped lighting and after one day car won't start altogether. We'd call the same service center and he tells he doesn't have time and I will have to wait 7 days for them to see the issue. (This is the place we got the car and they did the update.) We called another service center, they were ready to see the car. So now we are responsible to get the car at the service station. Called roadside assistance and they were not able to find a towing company. Spoke with them several times. No use. 3 days I am sitting home with car standing on the side of the road outside my house. No assistance, no spare car offered. Just scared what if I was stuck at on a highway or middle of nowhere. Highly disappointed. Rethinking my decision to buy Land Rover. Really questioning the premier tag on Land Rover... is it true?

Range Rover 2010 Sport - I love this car... It's like riding a baby pony that wants to go go go... I also own a Porsche 911 Turbo and as far as speed and agility go, the Range Rover can't be beat for an SUV. After reading some of the prior reviews, I agree that if you want to drive this car, you need to treat it like gold and have the $$$ to pay for consequences. I've had my car in for several things that were covered under warranty but were a pain in the **. Make sure to get an extended warranty. It will pay for all the quirks and issues that definitely will happen. An oil change and tuneup will cost you upwards of $700 (warranty doesn't cover that!). And if you lose your key, be prepared to spend another $600.
I'm a mom with 4 kids and we all love this car... the status, the speed and the luxury... It comes with a price tag well beyond the $85,000 you spend on it though. I just had new brakes put on and another $1,900 later, am holding my breath until the next issue (maintenance or wear and tear) happens. Bottom line, this is an amazing vehicle... Land Rover needs to work on the high price tag, back charging after purchase and stop nickle and diming their loyal customers for literally everything.

I left the car running on my street with the door open while I got out to put my dog away. When I came walking back from behind the house the Evoque was going up the street on its own. If kids would have been in the street like normal they would have been run over. The SUV door hit my brick mailbox and stopped the car. When I got in the SUV the gear shift control was still in the Park position.
I called Range Rover and they responded with a tow truck and took the SUV to the dealership. The dealership had it for a couple weeks with very little communication with us. Then one day called and said they could not replicate the problem and said "we are pushing your Evoque outside so you need to make arrangements to have it picked-up and file an insurance claim." They said, "you must have left it in reverse and gotten out of the car." As you can imagine I was not happy.
Next came the repair. The auto body shop called me a few days later telling me that LR/RR said the repair parts were not in the US and it could take from 3 months to one year to get parts. I have been fighting every day with LR corp and still have no ETA for any of it. Seems crazy but I would never by a LR/RR again. Customer service is so bad and my wife will never want to drive a car that can drop in a gear by itself. She has told me to sell the car when we get it back. I am going to have to inform the buyer of the issue.

For everyone who owns a Land Rover, listen up! We all know that Land Rovers are high maintenance! It doesn't matter if you have a 1990 Defender or a 2015 LR4. It will eventually fail in some way, shape or form! With that said, you have to treat them like gold. If you're one of those Soccer moms - with all due respect, that needs to jump in the car four or five times a day to run errands with the A/C blasting in the middle of the summer, then maybe this isn't the vehicle for you. Land Rovers are like Ferraris. You have to constantly be on top of them, know when the vehicle breaks before it does! Keep money in savings and always be prepared!
With that said I recently purchased a 2001 Discovery 2 in mint condition! Only 111k on the OD. First thing I did was look under the carriage - Hmm, no leaks. Looked under the hood - no leaks. Everything was nice, clean and looked new! Checked the oil - it was so clean you could drink it! I thought what's the catch? Took it for a test drive. Ran perfect except for every stop I could hear the airbag compressor blowing air! Ok ,no biggie. I bought it. Next day drove it to work. Halfway to work, bam. Yep the three amigos come on! ABS,TC, and Downhill Assist. Ok, I'll check it after work! Kept driving about a mile - engine makes big noise. Check engine light comes on! Only for a sec then off. Hmm... That's weird. Go about another mile - bang again. What the... Go about another mile, then vehicle just dies while driving on a heavy street doin' 55 in a 45. Quickly, I pulled safely off the road into a CVS Pharmacy.
Now late for work, I let it sit for a minute. Started right up - was able to get to work! Next day, took it to my mechanic who is really familiar with Euro cars. He happens to own a Jag! After computer reads 6 possible causes, we found a short in the crank shaft solenoid! $350.00 US later, vehicle ran fine! If I would have taken it to a dealer or Land Rover, it would have been about $1600.00 US and they probably would have fixed the wrong thing!
I have recently put new rear airbags. Bought them online for less than $200.00 and had my cousin installed them. Now the vehicle drives like a Cadillac with no lights on! Now I know not everyone has a cousin that is a master mechanic especially owning three Toyota Land Cruisers and a lifted Samuri! But do your homework. Land Rovers are notorious for having electrical problems! If anything gets wet, corroded, dirty, do the best you can - always keep it clean, free of mud, dirt, snow etc... And I have learned if one little thing goes, it makes ten others go as well, so find out for sure if you can exactly what the issue is and then the others will probably disappear as well! Land Rover dealers especially will ** you for your money! And probably never fix what's really wrong! Good Luck and God bless!! Hope this helps.

Land Rover LR3 Defective Suspension Compressor - Diagnostics showed original part was redesigned and suggested replacement. Contacted Land Rover. They would not replace as it was out of warranty. I told them it was not a defective part, it was a part they engineered wrong which is why the diagnostic showed that part was to be replaced with updated part. After writing, calling, etc I gave up. So I had to have local repair shop replace as the closest LR dealer was 3.5 hrs away, so 7 hrs round trip, plus two nights hotel as they said they needed 2 days. Local repair shop cost was $1,300.00 using Land Rover's updated part (dealer wanted $1,600). Land Rover does not stand by their product. Yes, vehicle was out of warranty, however, I have since learned that others have had the same problem. When I spoke with their dealer, they stated, yes they have had to replace many of these. So if you buy a Land Rover, and they have a known part that will fail eventually due to their poor engineering, you better hope it fails in warranty period.

This past weekend I left my home in Central PA Saturday morning to drive up to Saugerties, NY to pick up my daughter where she was at a horse show with my parents and niece. I went to see her ride in her 1st show, then in the afternoon I intended to depart for Southern NJ. My wife is there for the summer with the kids and I drive back and forth. It was our wedding anniversary on Aug 4th, so I was headed there to celebrate with her.
As I left Saugerties around 5pm on Saturday, my passenger rear tire blew out. Total blowout, with the wall of the tire torn. I called Land Rover roadside assistance because I couldn't find the spare. It was at that time I learned there is no spare in my car! Only a patch kit, which wasn't going to help me. LR roadside assistance said the only thing they 'were authorized' to do was tow me North to Albany and then have the tire replaced Monday (2 days away).
Because I wanted to get to Southern NJ, I had AAA tow the car to the nearest tire store. They believed they could get me on the road before they closed at 6p. When I got there and gave them the tire size 275/45 r21, they said, "That's a real unusual size. We don't have anything like that in stock." I spent the next two days calling around to tire centers in the greater NY metro area - no one has that tire in stock. Most never heard of that size. I was mystified that in one of the largest suburban metro areas of the world, I could not easily find the tire I needed when I had no spare. Did the designer of the truck not consider what might happen in the event of a blown tire? No spare, unique tire size... Off road machine??!! In the end we had to stay 2 extra days in a hotel, get towed 45 miles in the opposite direction of where we were headed, and pay Land Rover's premium prices on the tire to have it replaced. A flat tire, which should take 45 minutes to fix, took 2 -3 days with much expense, frustration and a missed anniversary.
As a CEO of a mid-size company, I'm familiar with customer service/customer experience architecture. I can only categorize my experience with Land Rover as policy driven and customer tone deaf. The Albany dealership was great. The Roadside Assistance was deplorable. A flat tire on $100,000 4x4 should not cause a 3-day delay... at least that's what my common logic tells me... Apparently not LR. To top it all off, the tow truck was 3 hours late on Monday. They detoured to pick up another accident before coming to us... Up until this point I loved the vehicle. After this incident my perception of Land Rover is not favorable and will likely not trade this Range Rover on another when the time comes. A problem is an opportunity to turn a customer into a fan. Unfortunately I am not. And I anticipate they will do nothing more to make me one.

We bought our 2008 LR2 in early 2007. We have had nothing but headaches with this vehicle since day one. The first day driving, the sunroof seal peeled off and the screen became detached. Then the problems got worse to the point we thought the electrical system was defective. This vehicle has been in the auto dealership repair shop more than my wife and I have seen our doctors. It was so bad that Land Rover had to send an engineer out to look at the vehicle to get an idea what was causing all the problems and it seemed fixed. Lo and behold, the warranty expires and guess what? We start having more problems and costly ones at that. We literally lost our savings account for repairs on our LR2. The most recent repair over $1,200.00 for a cooling fan. It gets better.
Prior to this repair our windscreen was damaged by something that struck the windscreen. Safe lite comes out and the tech. is not concerned about the crack as much as he is about the delaminated windscreen. He asked if we had been in accident and if we were the original owners. The vehicle was never in an accident and we are the original owners. The vehicles has only ever been serviced at LR dealership in Ventura, CA. and nowhere else. Apparently, the windscreen was replaced because it was damaged but it was incorrectly replaced and it allowed moisture to enter the instrument panel and thus our electronic headaches I can only presume. We've had the fuel pump go out, oil pump go out, among a host of numerous other headaches that added up to the several thousands of dollars we lost on repairing this piece of junk.
Land Rover asked for the receipt of our most recent repair and the response was laughable. I posted my response on Google Plus. Basically we were told that Land Rover offered a goodwill gesture for reimbursing our windscreen which they fraudulently sold us in a bad and very unsafe condition. I had to laugh, we paid several thousands of dollars in repairs and Land Rover is not in a financial position to assist for one repair. LOL. That is pathetic!

I am a disabled US Marine and made report to the US Government about this problem with this Land Rover LR2 HSE 2008. I asked for recall because this is a dangerous problem with this Land Rover LR2 HSE. If this gets attention from the public, it's going to someone soon enough. This Land Rover LR2 has two pumps in the front and the pump to fix this problem is at the bottom (and SE too). So the problem is big because my dealer told me that the pump costs $25.26 and to fix it, they need to remove the front bumper to replace the new pump. The cost to remove the bumper is between $150 and $200 (to replace a windshield pump on this Land Rover LR2 HSE 2008).
Now I think the price is outrageous to replace a windshield washer pump on this Land Rover LR2 and it's dangerous if this happens on the highway. We need DOT too and US Government to recall this Land Rover LR2 as soon as possible because they only last 12,000 miles, so this problem is serious. There's a need to recall this Land Rover LR2 HSE and SE vehicles. I need this problem on my Land Rover LR2 HSE to be solved by the dealership as soon as possible!

Then I took it to the Land Rover dealer (in the next city) who diagnosed a mass airflow sensor as the culprit. This was changed but it kept reoccurring. More diagnostics (and the money associated with that) and resetting of the codes: same mafs but nothing was wrong with the sensor! Land Rover was unhelpful and quite frankly, disinterested. I guess the repeated cost resetting charges were making everyone happy (except me). So, I bought a 2013 Ford Explorer, a great vehicle at a half the cost, same great cargo space, better ride (!) and a more accessible dealer network. It's a great truck.

During the seven months they had the vehicle, they had told us they would take care our financial costs to rent a vehicle during this time due to them not being able to loan us a car from the dealership. They have now refused to help with any of the $3,944 worth of expenses we incurred from renting another vehicle to drive during that seven months. They have been terrible to deal with and are liars.
After dozens of emails and phone calls to them during these seven months confirming that they would reimburse the charges after the vehicle was fixed, they have basically now said they can't do anything for us. I will never ever purchase another Land Rover. Our insurance paid out over $18,000 to them to repair the vehicle and they still treat their customers unfairly. I bought a 1999 HSE from a guy in NW Houston. He was only too happy to unload this ** on me for $3300. It drives great, it blows cold AC, but since I've had it, I've spent nearly twice what I paid for it. First, the key fob broke. It cost $700+ for them to send me this ancient looking control two weeks later. The sun roof track broke. They told me it would cost $2800 to replace the parts. Later, it was $2900 for brakes and shocks, and then, the last straw was $3000 for the catalytic converter. The back story: On one of my "wallet siphoning" trips to RR North Houston, I had a head lamp reflector lamp come off and a fuel issue that caused my check engine light to come on. I paid $1300 for that, but the week later, the reflector came off and the check engine light came back on. They told me the "code" was new on the check engine soon, and to bring the truck in so they can see if I had done something to the light which is really only a snap in.
Wait, what?! They told me that I had to pay almost $300 for a whole light assembly, but what they really did was snapped in a reflector? Range Rover has a monopoly in the city because not many people can repair them. They treat you any kind of way because they know people almost have to rely on them for service. That really sucks. When I left today to get my reflector looked at, one guy told me it would be in on Monday, June 25. Then I got another call that said it would be in in a few weeks. I'm going to do my best to trade this vehicle in and for as long as I live, I never ever want to have dealings with the lying, cheating, stealing Range Rover or their product again.

I bought a 2004 Range Rover on 5/12/12 from this dealership (Vision Custom Car). Three days after having the vehicle, the car shut off on me. I called Mr. ** and advised what happened. He stated maybe the car needed service. I took the car to be checked out by two different licensed Range Rover professionals and they stated he sold me a lemon. This vehicle need over 5,000 dollars of work; it had engine problems and all kinds of oil leakage in 4 different spots. I contacted Eric in regards to what's going on. He never will take my calls and finally, I got in contact with him and he stated I cannot give the car back and he is not paying to repair it. I paid $13,000 for the car and over $5,000 to have it repaired. In Mr. **'s report of the car (Carfax), the car was in very good condition, had no mechanical problems and no engine problems. Well, that was wrong. I am upset at how he handled business and he should not be a licensed dealership selling cars that are lemons. I want reimbursement of the extra $5,000 I had to put into this car and it has only been 1 month.

The first incident that occurred was with the front differential, which needed to be replaced at 30,000 miles. Three months later, the air suspension needed to be replaced as well. I am lost for words as to why is it that this is a so-called top of the line luxury vehicle. I was suckered into buying this basically junk and ** expensive vehicle, which is costing me and a lot of others nothing but financial burden and headaches. I cannot wait to unload this junk by any means. I will never purchase a Land Rover ever again!

Transmission replacement was declined while under warranty. I had taken my vehicle in for issues with the transmission. I brought these issues to the attention of the dealership while the vehicle was still under an extended warranty. They kept the vehicle for several weeks at a time and did not make any repairs to the transmission. My transmission continues to show signs of impending failure. I took the vehicle back in to have the issue addressed and they said that the transmission needed replacing; however, due to the extended warranty expiration, the repairs to the transmission will be at my expense. The service manager at Livermore Land Rover said that there are several notes in my service records that I had concerns with the transmission problems. I have sought an attorney. However, his suggestion is for me to take the consumer affair route first as he sees that the case is very simple. A preexisting condition is the responsibility of the car company to repair.

My Land Rover Range Rover Sport came to an emergency stop at over 60 mph after Land Rover told me it was fixed and had been in the dealers for three days. I then drove it going to work at a speed of over 60 mph. Suddenly, it stopped then I went forward and back and I went forward and back again. As I came back, I broke my neck on the headrest. I am now on a wheelchair with very little use of my left side and in constant pain. The car has done the same thing several times before but only at a speed of between 5 and 10 mph. It only caused a small jolt. Land Rover will not admit liability but has offered me a small amount of money which I refused. Before the one that caused my accident, I had four other Sport HSE's that I never had problems with. It was a faulty product fault. Why can Land Rover say sorry. The part that caused the problem will have been made by another small parts company instead of making me suffer. The book should be put onto them. I am not happy with Land Rover at all. I am a shareholder in the company and this is how I am treated.

I am an old customer of Land Rover since years and I was really satisfied with the services I got until now. An incident occurred where my car caught fire suddenly and it caused damage to my car. Thankfully, nothing happened to the passengers seated inside it, but the front part was completely damaged. The car is under warranty and has also been given for servicing on time. There was no fault with the car, but the sudden fire did take us all by surprise. Luckily, the door lock worked and the car opened and we could come out and stop the fire. I am a proud customer of Land Rover since years and this is my car of this company. I have a Range Rover sport and two Freelander 2.
The car which I am talking about here is Freelander 2, which I had purchased around 2 years back. The matter has been reported to the authorized dealer, but they are little slow I guess. It would be nice if you could contact me through my mobile number or the email address provided by me or you could also give me a contact number where I can talk about this issue. I'm having problems without my car and it would be nice of you if you could do it at the earliest possible. Thank you!

I purchased this truck for my wife on January 2007 with 30,000 miles. On August 2007, my truck was hit by some guy from Indiana who didn't have insurance (by this time, I had 32,000 miles), but I was fortunate to have full coverage on my vehicle. I had my car towed to the Land Rover dealership in Darien and was told by Land Rover to have my car towed to Coatling's Auto Body Shop because it was their preferred repair shop for Land Rover. They had to replace the front end, transmission, which they got paid by well over $25,000 for the repair (minus my $1000 deductible). I didn't get my car back until June 2008 and mysteriously, I had 42,000 miles on my vehicle.
Ever since I got my truck back, I have been bringing it back to them for the same reason. The truck kept giving error codes and at times, locking up. So when I brought it back to them, Joe from Coatling's said it was a new transmission and it had to break in. So after 3 weeks, I had to bring it back in for the same issue and I was told by Joe and Peter that it was now the wire harness. Then 2 weeks later, I'm having the same problem and now Joe and Peter tells me it is the solenoids on the transmission. Long story short, they had Joe from Land Rover come down to their shop to look at my truck and he said what I was saying all along that the transmission was "shot" so they can order another transmission. They stated that they had to contact the company where they get their transmissions from and they said the guy there stated it was a good thing I brought it back because it was a few days within the one year warranty expiration.
So they sent one down 3 months later. Coatling's then had Joe from Land Rover repair it in their shop. Finally, I got my car back yet again for the 10th time, it was riding as if it was missing a gear so I bring it back again. I was told that it was another bad transmission or solenoid so they stated that they had to contact the company yet again. But they said that they only cover the first transmission and that I would need to purchase another one on my own!

My name is Francesca and I recently moved to Antibes, France with my daughters Chiara and Allegra. We are English and chose our new car three years ago from Land Rover Azur Cars. A Defender 90 in gun metal grey --love at first sight!
This spring, on the motorway, there was suddenly a metallic roaring noise beside me. I thought it was a lorry overtaking but in fact, it was me. The 6th gear had taken on a life of its own. Concerned that I might be stranded, I limped home in 4th and booked an appointment with Land Rover Azur Cars for 16th May '11. I was also concerned that the 3-year warranty for the car expired mid-July '11. Allegra and her car are permanently in Milan so when I took the Defender in, they organized a Mini for me as a substitute. At the cost of 50 euros per day. The chief mechanic, Claude **, told me to call the next day but there was no diagnosis.
In the meantime, I received an urgent letter from Land Rover headquarters informing all owners of this model that there was seepage of oil into the braking system and that I should hotfoot it to Land Rover. Given that the car was already there, I sent Mr. ** the letter and finally received information that the gearbox would have to be replaced (he told me that both works were under guarantee) and that he would ask Land Rover to take over the charges for the Mini. I told him very clearly that I was booked for an extended stay abroad from 8th June until 4th October '11, advising him too that Chiara couldn't drive due to a medical condition and that the Mini was parked on the road nearby just getting dirty. He told me there was no problem, all was in hand and not to worry.
Time rolled on, Chiara and I called LR Azur Cars many times with no result going through various departments of used car sales, BMW motorbikes, the latest Mini/Land Rover promotion and put on endless hold for the mechanics department. Finally, I left. To shorten the story, Chiara telephoned and emailed regularly to find out what was happening.
After a desperate phone call from Chiara to Azur Cars, there was an arrangement for someone to bring the LR and take back the Mini on 4PM one afternoon. Chiara took time off work, waited for the rendezvous but no one showed up. On 26/08/11, a registered letter from Land Rover Azure Cars arrived saying: We received the Land Rover frame No. ** on 17th May (it was actually 16th May). The car was repaired on 20th June. We don't have any room and can't keep your car here indefinitely. We are asking you to pay 35 per day for parking rates as well as the rental of 50 per day starting on the 30th June up until you come to pick up the car and deliver the rental one.
In one phone call from the office of the lawyer I have now employed (after receiving the registered letter), a discussion from LR Azur Cars to go 50/50 was mooted but was rejected. Three letters have been sent by the lawyer to LR Azur Cars, but no reply as yet. The lawyer's letters have been 'indignant' and he has told me not to go to Land Rover Azur Cars/Mini before seeing him. I can't be without my car indefinitely while the lawyers send each other 'indignant' letters. I consider this situation similar to legalized extortion and I do not intend to pay a penny for something brought about entirely by the inefficiency and inflexibility of Land Rover Azur Cars.
I have returned the Mini to the rental company, I have had to fork out 2,000.00 for the wear and tear incurred by having it parked on the street for 4 months and the post sales director refused to give me my car unless I paid the above sum. I don't want this ridiculous mountain created from a molehill to grow in even greater proportions. Please send me any advice/help possible as it doesn't seem likely that I am going to see my car again for at least another year, until the court order is over (wishful thinking?).
Yours very sincerely,Francesca **

All of the damages that I am listing are due to a weak fault of Land Rover and listed on their monthly newsletter or recall status and I have severe damages to my engine at this point. I have written to this line before and you people do not do anything. You are a worthless fraud. This system of writing this type of complaint is a fraud system in and of itself.
This car has been a lemon since I bought it. For the span of the two years that I owned it, from 49,000 miles to 96,000 miles, it has been undrivable with one problem or another. It has faulty sun roof engine, motor, faulty rear window, faulty cooling system, faulty front end/ball joints/tie-rods, faulty fuel pump/recalled, faulty air intake, faulty hill decent, faulty Chinese finger part that we do not know where it goes to get one put on more and more and more. All the problems that I have had over the period of time are mentioned in your monthly newsletter as bad or recall.
The last time I wrote to this line, I brought the car in for maintenance, and when I left, the "check engine" light was on/it was not on when I brought it in for repairs, but it was on when I left. I spoke with the mechanic, the service manager, and the owner to get them to fix the light that they triggered, and find it, but they refused me and so did this line. What else have you got for an option to take action against this type of consumer crime?
Chasing down problems on this car sapped out financials to the point that I did not have the finances at the time the timing belt broke. Another of your inventions is that if the timing belt breaks, it is automatic that the valves must be repaired. In most engines, that is not the case. However, it is with your vehicle. I do not have the finances to buy a new engine and I do not have the financials to do the valve job and replace all the belts and tensions. That car just would not stay running.

I purchased an '03 Land Rover Discovery. It instantly started having problems. The worst being when I was told my check engine light was on due to a cracked radiator. This was an out an out lie. The light was on due to two plug wires that were just a year old, falling off. The wires being off burnt up the ignition coil. Land Rover put the wires on but would not warranty their work. When I called the home office, I was told the service writer wrote the light was on because I brought it in with a cracked radiator. My radiator wasn't cracked when I brought it in so I refused to have it replaced.
It still isn't cracked and it's not leaking. The dealerships are liars and their work is substandard. I told the home office I never had the radiator replaced but the check engine light is off so I want my money back for the wires and coil. She insisted the light was due to the radiator. Again, I asked why I paid $800 for a new coil and wires and how the light went off of it wasn't the coil and I didn't replace the radiator. She could answer and just kept rereading the service writers notes saying the same contradictory things over and over. Finally telling me she couldn't do anything if she did agree with me.

I bought a new Land Rover LR3 in 2005. About 2 weeks ago after driving it back from SC on a 4-hour trip, the car began to stall and the engine light came on. The temperature gauge was normal. I immediately stopped the vehicle and then checked the oil and fluid levels. The car had been perfectly maintained by the dealer since it was new. A Land Rover-certified mechanic was within a couple of blocks of the incident and quickly ran a diagnosis test on the LR3. He determined it was water in the gasoline from a recent fill-up some 30 miles previously. He put something in the gas tank and told me to drive it out. Apparently, the additive contained a large amount of alcohol and the last fill-up had ethanol in the gasoline.
After driving the car another 30 miles as directed, the engine failed. Smoke began billowing out the back and the engine apparently seized or possibly hydro-locked. Land Rover was contacted and, as expected, did absolutely nothing. I spoke with Joy there and she was not helpful. The dealer doesn't know what happened and says it was a sleave, but that apparently only happened to the V8 engines on the Range Rover and I have a 4.0 V6 engine, which is the Cologne engine that Ford modified for Land Rover. The engine replacement is $9,000.
I am dumbfounded and can't believe this. It appears the combination of events including water in the gas and a highly combustible commercial grade solvent caused the engine to fail. I have turned the claim into my comprehensive insurance policy for damages, otherwise the car is a total loss.

I purchased a used Land Rover Discovery in 2007 from a Land Rover dealership. The vehicle had 45,000 miles on it. Soon after we moved to Kansas and in the middle of a snow storm, 2 of my window motors went out and the windows wouldn't go up. So I took it to the dealership here and at a cost of $200.00 each, I replaced them. Then I had to fix the head gasket due to a leak. In 2009, the oil pressure light came on and the vehicle died. I towed it to the dealership and was told the engine had an oil pump failure and you can't just replace the oil pump by design you have to replace the engine. Next, I learn from the internet (not the dealership) that there was a technical report sent out for my VIN range that warned dealerships of oil pump failures.
I then called Land Rover and asked what they were going to do to help me since they knew about the problem and it was a faulty piece of equipment on their part. I was informed that they don't do anything and that it's my problem. So I purchased a new engine from Got Engines.com for $6,000 and asked the dealership for their address so I could ship it to them and have it put in my vehicle which was sitting in their lot. I was told by the parts manager that they will be charging me a delivery fee a storage fee until they put it in the vehicle and 20% of the engine cost for a parts fee. I was very upset and after a few calls, I got these fees waived. After installing the engine for $3,000, they told me I needed to purchase a few hundred dollars in hoses, and I had to replace another window motor. I showed up to pick up my vehicle and noticed that all of the plastic housing for the radiator was missing. I was asked if I took it off before bringing it there which is absurd and the supervisor there actually had to take the part off of his vehicle and put it on mine so I would sign the paperwork. After driving my vehicle for about a month, the check engine light came on and the oil pressure light came on again. I checked the oil and it was out.
After taking it to an oil change place, I called them and was told it will drink oil because the seals haven't set yet. Since my check engine light didn't go off, I took it back to the shop and was told I need about $700.00 worth of environmental parts. I was informed it was safe to drive and took it home. Now as of 2 days ago, I was driving down the highway and low and behold the check engine light started flashing and the oil pressure light flashed once so I pulled over where it died. I had it towed back home and called Got engines to start the warranty process. Got engines was helpful until their warranty tech got on the phone and began all the reasons that this could be my fault and they don't pay for any labor to have it looked at. I have put 6,000 miles on the new engine; all oil changes were current and up to date. And yet again, I'm stuck with what is looking like another enormous bill. I would not recommend purchasing anything from Land Rover, not even a hat!

In January 2008, I purchased a 2003 Land Rover Discovery Series II HSE with 44K miles. When I purchased the vehicle, the selling dealer had performed an inspection which noted the vehicle in great condition. I also received a CARFAX report noting the vehicle had a good history. In February 2008, I brought the vehicle to Land Rover dealer to have a full inspection of the vehicle. This was mainly for peace of mind on the condition of the used vehicle as determined by certified Land Rover mechanics. The inspection report noted that the vehicle was in great condition with no issues needing to be addressed. But along with the evaluation paperwork provided by the Land Rover dealer was a Land Rover Technical Alert. The Technical Alert stated the following:
Situation: Oil pump failures on 2003 Discovery Series II vehicles may be the result of a manufacturing error. Locating dowel pins may be slightly misaligned permitting assembly of the oil pump to the engine block, but placing stress on the pump housing which can ultimately lead to leakage or failure.
Resolution: Whenever an oil pump failure is encountered on vehicles within the above VIN range, the only effective repair currently available is replacement of the complete engine assembly including the front cover/oil pump manufactured to the latest tolerances.
My Land Rover VIN number falls within the identified VIN number range of affected vehicles. I spoke to the dealer when he provided this technical alert. He stated that the vehicle oil pump was fine and that they would not address the issue if the vehicle was working properly. Jump ahead to 2010. While driving the vehicle on March 26, 2010, the oil light came and the engine began to make rumbling sounds. I turned off the vehicle. Fearing the worst, I had the vehicle towed at a cost of $545 to my mechanic. My mechanic confirmed that the oil pump had failed. I spoke to the Land Rover dealer and to Land Rover of North America. Neither would cover the repair in spite of the technical alert published and provided by them on this condition. The estimated cost to repair the vehicle is $10,000.
I believe that I am responsible for the ownership and reasonable risks associated with a used vehicle. But the issue with my vehicle is not reasonable. Land Rover made a manufacturing "error", published it and then left the "error" to the consequence and expense of myself. If I had known about this technical alert at the time of purchase, I would have either had the issue covered under a warranty or perhaps not purchase the vehicle. These types of technical alerts are not disclosed to the public which left me at risk. The first I knew of the technical alert was after I purchased the vehicle and received the inspection report.
At this time, my vehicle is of little value with an engine that needs to be replaced. I am stuck with attempting to find the money to cover the repair or sell the vehicle for what little I can get for it and take a huge loss. To make a defective product, sell it and then leave the consequence to the expense of the consumer is unethical and shameful.

I have wanted a Land Rover since the late 80's - it has always been my favorite! In 2006 I purchased a 2003 LR Discovery from Bolufe car dealership in Miami, FL. The truck only had 39000 miles and seemed in great shape. I only had the car for approximately 4 months when everything started going wrong. I have replaced switch and router on three of the windows- and two of them are broken again.
All oxygen sensors, full tune up, horn, door handles, tires, master cylinder, back breaks (twice) timing belt. The blades on the wipers 6 times and I hardly use them- plus the bulbs. The all-in-one key is outrageous to replace. We had to do it or I could not open or lock the truck- Gasket galore. The front seats do not work. Every time I change the fuse I can only move them once and they blow out. I am so truly disappointed in this product. I wish I had never purchased!

I purchased my 2002 Land Rover Discovery from Peoples Jeep in Folsom, CA in July of 2007, but the dealership is now closed. Since then, I have paid close to $9000 in repairs. I owe way more than the SUV is worth and am very disappointed with my decision to purchase this lemon, which is, from what I've heard, a lot of them are!
I have replaced the ABS, fuse boxes, leaky caps, head gaskets due to overheating, radiator, and fuel injection pump. I'm sure this isn't the end of the problems that I face. The service at the Sacramento Jaguar/Land Rover is horrible and I have had it back several times after they have failed to fix the problems I have brought it in for. I know have a squeak from my fan when I have the air conditioning or the heater on.
I brought it back to them and they said they didn't tighten the timing belt enough, but it is still happening after they said they had fixed it. I'm afraid if I take it back again they will screw something else up.

When I purchased my used certified 2003 Land Rover Discovery in November 2006, the problems began immediately. I have had all window motors break once every 6 months for the past two years. From the beginning, it had a nasty leak and I had it taken to the dealership on several different occasions to fix the problem. Successfully, the leak would begin again. They said it’s a faulty seal in oil cap. As time goes on, I'm sick and tired of taking to the dealership and getting the same outcome over and over. Humbly, I drive my car to an automotive place and ask if he could kindly put my car up on racks and tell me what exactly is leaking. It turns out my transfer case leaks, my radiator has lost all bolts and is all over in the hood and steering fluid is leaking. For almost two years, my transfer case has been faulty and never once did they fix. I have taken that machine in on multiple occasions for blown fuses that blow over and over, short in wires and heat blowing out at all times under my legs.
Last week, I took it in because my dashboard looked like a Christmas tree with faulty warnings. It turns out my front hubs needed to be replaced, but they could not get them off. They told me if they broke while they were trying to remove them, I would have to pay $400 to replace hub. I said if you break my hub, you will pay for my hub. Last but not least, I went to sell my car and they found on Carfax that my certified vehicle was in an accident. I asked Land Rover and they said they use different background information and they did not find the vehicle was ever in accident. When I showed them the paper where it showed the car was in an accident, he said, “We do the best of our ability to make sure we find out all history before making car certified.” I said I would not have bought the car if I knew it was in an accident. He said he would not have sold it as certified. I asked for the difference in the car if sold as is. He just ended our conversation and told me to do the research.

I am looking for some support from a group. I leased a 2008 Range Rover Sport HSE in August 2008 and have been into service 7 times for many issues. The one issue that I have is a delay acceleration during a left-hand turn, which almost got me into a car accident a couple of times. It was explained to me by the service tech that as the car is down shifting and you accelerate, the delay occurs because it's trying to figure out what gear it is in.
I brought it into the dealership and was able to demonstrate this delay to three different service techs at three different service locations. However, the company said that the delay is normal. They did a software update on my car but said that it would not eliminate the problem. Land Rover won't fix it, because they said this is inherent in the design of the vehicle. The fact of the matter is that I am now scared to drive the Rover and hate this car, because this delay acceleration is random. Is there anyone out there who has the same problems I am having? How do you resolve it? I tried to ask the company to take the car back, but they would not budge. Help.

I had the truck for 3 years and had every service and upkeep done by Land Rover. When you buy these trucks, the salesman just tells how reliable the truck is and what a great resale value it has. It’s all lies and the Land Rover trucks are a rip off and the quality is horrible. The last Land Rover I bought I had for three years. I put $11,000 worth of repairs in it and they bought it back for $3,000. I bought the truck for $40,000. Worst trucks on the market today. The service people are horrible as well. I had the work done and the car was picked up (Thursday night). I heard a noise as if something was loose and called the dealer to inform them, along with a complaint that my passenger side mirror was broken (Friday morning). I was told to bring the car back but work would not allow me to go that day. So, on the following day (Saturday), I took it back.
Several calls to them later (8/11/09), a gentleman by the name of Anthony contacted me and told me that the noise was another issue other than the repair, which would be an additional charge. I can't afford another repair on the vehicle so I told them to just fix my mirror and I will have to wait on the other work. Anthony refused to fix the mirror and said the damage could have been made by me and they would not be liable. I have no reason to put this claim for the damage if it was done by me. I took their word for the work and accepted that it was a different problem and would do the work at a later time. It is now 8/12/09 and my car is at the dealer and the mirror issue is not resolved. All I want is the damage on the mirror to be resolved. It is costing me time and money along with issues at work due to the personnel phone calls.

We bought a 2004 Range Rover HSE from BMC (British Motor Corporation) San Francisco, CA. We have had nothing but problems with it from day 1. At last, my wife was driving home from work on Hwy 92 in San Mateo Bridge and the SUV blew up. She was 9 months pregnant and the car’s transmission went. We have never serviced it at any other dealer other than BMC & Range Rover of Redwood City. No 3rd party repairs. We had it serviced at BMC for every service and fluid change well after the warranty expired at 50K. She had to abandon the car after being told Range Rover Roadside could not be there for an hour plus. She had to then walk down the on ramp at 9 at night and call a cab.
The repairs required were: new transmission and converter, new radiator, thermostat and alternator. $12,000. The radiator would be our 3rd replacement in 75K. The service department mentioned that the radiators go and sometimes do not message the dash and the car/ transmission then over heats. This seems to be a typical issue as the thermostat is a BMW electric unit and electric units in liquid do not mesh. Upon writing several letters to Land Rover NA, they were all dismissed with, “Sorry, due to the poor economic times, Land Rover of NA will not assist in any compensation.” The dealership said we had a strong case, but it was up to LRNA. This is our 3rd Range Rover that was bought brand new and is now our last. We love the car, but the company and its service reliability and honor is horrible. Please think about that when you’re buying a car for the family.

I have a 2003 Discovery II. The car at 90 km had engine problem, and I was told it will be replaced under warranty. But later, I found that they just changed the upper block, and it took them 9 months, believe it or not, to fix the car. I came back to the dealer for heat and clicking noise problems and ended up paying for these problems, though I told them that I never had these problems with my previous engine.
Another thing was the gas tank flap that had a plastic clip to lock it. This clip breaks almost every 2 to 3 months or sometimes 4 months to be frank, and I have to replace it. But I think that it's a manufacturing defect that needs to be taken care of, and I did make a few complaints when I had the car in 2004. But these people in Landrover (English management) think that it's my fault that it's breaking. And they think Landrover is a very fine and excellent car and better than BMW, Audi, Benz, or even Toyota, as the last service manager told me a couple of days ago.
I have a problem with the ABS and SRS display turning on, and they said they fixed it a couple of years ago. But it's still there and turns on between time to time, and I got bored and frustrated, complaining all the time about the problems with this English 4x4. I had a body vibration at speeds over 120, and they couldn't fix it. The electrical window motors break down easily, and Landrover never bothers to do a consumer survey or at least fix these major and regular problems. All they care is to cut down in expenses and blame the customers and force them to pay instead of covering everything under the warranty.
And here in Kuwait, unfortunately, we have a couple of unexperienced English kids who run the service center and get high salaries but have no knowledge, just because they were recommended by Landrover. This is my last Landrover, because many of my friends who own Landrovers or Range Rovers are regretting buying these cars because you have to spend a lot to drive a fancy car that has many problems and only has the nice looks.
It's just thanks to BMW and Ford that made these cars nice looking, but unfortunately, they are run by same arrogant English management who keeps on telling Landrover dealers to be strict and force customers to pay instead of covering everything under the warranty. I have read the comments about how people are treated, and believe me, it's the same thing here in Kuwait. But try the ugly Benz 4x4 or Toyota dealers here in Kuwait, and you will feel the difference between German and English management.

The purpose of this letter is to document complete customer dissatisfaction as set forth below. I have never written a complaint letter before, but I felt compelled to do so following a very bad experience with a Land Rover vehicle. In short, I am completely dissatisfied and will never contemplate purchase of a Land Rover vehicle in the future. A brief summary of my two-year experience is outlined below.
I purchased a 2002 Land Rover Freelander SE during July 2006. The vehicle was very clean. Everything on the vehicle worked properly. There appeared to be no fluid leaks and the owner's manual had dealer stamps indicating scheduled maintenance at prescribed intervals. I purchased the vehicle with about 52,000 miles in McAllen, Texas. I thought I was getting a good deal and paid $14,177. Almost immediately, the vehicle had no end of maintenance problems, which ultimately cost about $12,000 over a period of about two years. The bottom line is that I had over $26,000 invested in a vehicle that would no longer run and I could no longer afford to maintain. I had to take a substantial loss and sell the vehicle.
As of the writing of the letter, the service engine soon light illuminated and would not extinguish. The Land Rover dealer in Colorado Springs, Colorado had stated that it will cost over $2100 to replace the faulty manifold in order to rectify the condition. I spoke to the sales manager at the Land Rover dealer located in Colorado Springs, and the woman told me that she was not willing to give me anything for the vehicle unless I was willing to negotiate a trade. Your customer service representative in Mahwah made some phone calls on my behalf, which were appreciated, but the end result was that she could not assist either.
I was forced to settle for next to nothing for a vehicle that had all the prescribed scheduled maintenance and an investment of over $26,000 in a two-year period. This has been, by far, the worst experience I have ever had with any type of vehicle. I am also extremely disappointed with Land Rover in general who seemingly has no interest in living up to their motto of complete customer satisfaction. Under the circumstances, I don't think that my request for book value less $2100, was out of line. In my humble estimation, a vehicle manufacturer that charges about $300 for a headlight and over $1000 for a manifold and about $600 for a brake job should be more willing to back up their products, especially when the reliability of the product does not even come close to meeting customer expectation. Unfortunately, I had the misinformed perception that Land Rover manufactured premium sport utility vehicles.

I bought a Land Rover Freelander 2002 new from a dealer in Connecticut. I serviced it as I was obliged to, and did not have any issues with the vehicle until exactly one month after the warranty expired after the 4 year mark, that it started to have major, expensive mechanical defects. First, the transmission blew and needed full replacement at a huge cost. Now, just this past week, the engine has blown and I am told by the dealer that I need to have the engine replaced at $7,000.
Land Rover admits to having factory mechanical defects in the transmission and the engine, but has done nothing to date to resolve the matter.
The dealer only wants to sell us a new Land Rover! Unbelievable.
The vehicle I own has only 37,000 miles on it and is six years old.
I took pretty good care of the suv, and obviously did not drive it too much over six years.
We are angry, and have checked on the internet where there are hundreds of other angry Land Rover owners who got stuck with very expensive mechanical failures that Land Rover should have taken care of, but has not as of today.
I have made a call to Land Rover headquarters in New Jersey to see what they plan to do on a good faith gesture due to the fact that we were good drivers who took care of the car properly and did not deserve this mechanical breakdown.
We want to be made whole.

I purchased a brand new 2005 LR3 SEV8 in March 2005. I had about 2-3 months of carefree driving with this vehicle, and then it has been one problem after another. To be fair to the dealer and Land Rover, the items are covered under warranty, but the time and inconvenience caused has been ridiculous for such a premium brand. To this date (May 17,2008) I cannot drive my vehicle more than a week after service without getting an orange warning light. My vehicle is at the service department at least 1-2 times per month. Problems I have had to date:
- Fuel tank recall. Fine it's a recall, but since they replaced the tank I cannot get my orange engine light to remain off or stop erroneous warnings of a missing fuel cap. It has been to service so many times for this issue I stopped counting and nobody at the dealership has been able to explain the problem. I told them the issue started when they replaced the tank and maybe they should start again with a new tank, but they just give me a bunch of garbage about vacuum leaks and software problems that they have fixed.
- Right rear brake caliper started to lock up when driving on highway causing the vehicle to vibrate hard and smoking wheel. Dealer checked it, said they could not find a problem, and returned the vehicle to me. No repeat since.
- Transmission failure. My automatic gearshift became more and more difficult to put the vehicle in drive, then failed completely. I could only put the vehicle in reverse. Dealer said it was a faulty shift cable which was replaced. So far no more problems. The dealer refused to cover the total cost of my rental vehicle which they use as loaners.
- Clogged sunroof drains. Who ever heard of such a thing? Well it happened. I entered my vehicle one morning after a heavy night of rain only to find the compartment flooded. I'm not talking just some damp carpets, I'm talking 2 inches of standing water on the floor. I was told by the dealer that the sunroof drains were clogged or pinched perhaps at the factory and this caused the flooding. Now I have had many vehicles with sunroofs and I have never had a leak much less a flood! All the carpeting had to be torn out, the vehicle dried out to prevent any corrosion, and new carpeting replaced.
- The dealer is just sloppy for a luxury dealer. My vehicle is often returned unwashed, and the last trip they couldn't even be bothered to close the engine hood properly. Once I had a maglite flashlight stolen from my glove box, which I didn't even bother to report.
I paid $55K for this vehicle and it has 34K miles at this writing. It will cost a fortune to maintain when the 4 year, 50K warranty is up, but no dealer will give me a bid over about $19K, but I realize some of this is the glut of SUVs on the market now.
Ashamed, this was the best, most capable SUV I ever owned for about the first 3 months. Nothing but a nightmare since. Needless to say, I will never own another Land Rover or buy another vehicle from this dealer. I enjoyed my Ford Explorers much more. They were tremendously durable, reliable, and a lot less expensive from start to finish.
Great salesman though, a young guy and very conscientious. About the only person at the dealer that I ever felt cared about the customer from the first moment I set foot in the place.

I have been a lease holder with the Larchmont, New Rochelle Land Rover Dealership since 2003. The first lease I had was a 2003 Freelander which I returned in 2006. In March 2006, I leased a used 2005 LR3. Although this vehicle is considered to be of great prestige, I have had nothing but problems with this particular model.
The first fault that I noticed with this vehicle occurred after the first four months. The vehicle stalled on me while driving it at 70 miles an hour. If I would not have known to place the gear shift lever in neutral and then turn the engine back on, I cannot imagine what could have happened to me and my family. The car stalled a second time soon after and I decided to bring it in for service at Larchmont, New Rochelle and I was informed that it was a problem with the suspension module.
Although the problem was resolved, these incidents left me doubtful while driving the LR3. Once again, the vehicle stalled on the highway and again I was left to move the gear shift lever to neutral to turn the engine on. I called Land Rover of Larchmont and I was asked to bring the vehicle in and I was told that the module was defected and had to be replaced again.
The vehicle is at the beginning of its life with only 18900 miles. I have experienced other problems such as, an electrical problem which prevented me from opening the vehicle using the key remotes, apparently due to electrical wiring becoming wet from water entering the vehicle. The week after again another problem, the air conditioner was not working. The driver side was blowing out cool air and the passenger side was blowing out hot air.
As you can read from the numerous incidents I have listed above, I have had nothing but problems with this vehicle.
I am asking for a resolution to my ongoing problems with this particular vehicle such as a replacement truck with minimal problems and or an early termination of the lease. I have been a good customer to Land Rover, always keeping my lease agreement and I have never missing a payment in return I expect Land Rover to accommodate me with a quality product for the price I am paying.

If I was not knowledgable in placing the vehicle in neutral, I could have had a really horrible accident which I am trying to avoid.
The next problem was an electrical one, preventing my from entering the vehicle remotely and next the air conditioning was not working, one vent would blow cold moderate air and the passenger would blow hot air. The problem has been resulted, however, I feel that I have leased a car just to bring it in for service.
Land Rover has refused to accommodate my request in terminating my lease or replacing the vehicle.

The car is useless if you cannot trust it. It is in the service department constantly. They now valet it back since it has been repaired so many times. I am totally frustrated since LAND ROVER will do nothing to recognize this vehicle is TERRIBLE. They have my money...the end. My warranty expires in 6500 miles and I am forced to trade it in and lose much. I have been stranded so many times that I no longer drive the car.
constant security issues (unsafe), not to mention inconvenience and I lost a lot of money. $6,000 or $60,0000 for a car- this should NOT happen. and if it does the manufacturer should make good. LAND ROVER does NOT care!

We purchased a used 2001 LandRover Dicovery II with 18,000 miles on it from Bellevue Auto House after checking the service records from the Land Rover dealer. The records were impeccable and the car seemed to be in great shape. Since then we have continued with the service consistency and added an additional 20,000 miles to the vehicle. Our 4 year warranty ran out 10 months ago and we did not buy an extended warranty.
Recently our Landrover was overheating and we were losing radiator fluid. The strange part was there was no leaking underneath that car. We continued to fill up the car with fluid and we took the vehicle into the dealer several times to address this. The 1st time they replaced a radiator hose.
The 2nd time we were notified that the radiator block was blown and the fluid was leaking inside the engine. It would cost $7,500 to replace the engine. All of this at just above 39,000 miles.
I called the manufacturer and they refused to stand behind their product even after recognizing the great service record.
I still owe 20k on this vehicle and am now in a position of having to buy another car because this one was a lemon.

This is a serious saftey issue....that has been brought to their attention, which they have chosen to ignore. I took pictures, brought the vehicle to Land Rover, and also made numerous phone calls.
My vehicle isn't the only 1991 model that this rust and breaking away is happening to...a co-worker also has the same year Range Rover and his vehicle is also showing the rust and breaking down of the rear wheelhouse panels.
The owner of this 1991 Range Rover has no idea of the rusting away of these rear seat belt panels. The physical damages this could result in would be if a car accident occured with this truck.....people buckled in the rear seats could be seriously injured since the panels could just break away from the wheelhousing of these trucks. I just feel owners of this 1991 Range Rover need to be aware of the possible deterioration of these faulty wheelhousing panels for the rear safety belts.

I purchased a 2004 Range Rover from Land Rover Newport Beach. The vehicle had significant problems, including a suspension malfunction which required it to be towed to the dealer several times and was only repaired after 3 attempts and about 20 days in the shop.
Thereafter the vehicle required a new transmission which kept it in the shop for 41 consecutive days. Neither the dealer or the manufacturer expressed any sympathy or regret for the ongoing problems I was experiencing. I was frequently misled and ignored.
After countless hours of negotiating with the manufacturer, they finally agreed to buy the vehicle back under the Lemon Law. The misrepresentations and shady dealings reached a whole new level during this period. I returned the vehicle to the dealer on July 14th, per their instructions. Prior to returning the vehicle, I asked for copies of any documents they were going to require I sign. I was told the only document was a Power of Attorney to allow them to transfer title to them and register the vehicle. I was promised payment for the agreed upon sum within 5 days of returning the car, and confirmed that deadline in writing.
As of today, August 2, I still have not received my check. They required me to sign a settlement agreement which was not provided to me until I arrived at the dealership, and that agreement gives them 15 days to pay, and the ability to deduct additional sums from the price to which we agreed.
I have records of all my conversations including confirming letters I sent each time we spoke. Since returning the vehicle, they virtually never return a call. Today they told me my payment would not be sent until August 11 which is 27 days after returning the car. The corporate culture clearly excludes any semblance of service or customer care. The company is a mess.
The situation has created tremendous inconvenience, aggravation and ongoing rental car expense.

After 5 or 6 different attempts to resolve the lining was replaced by a pale looking fabric all brushed that looks like an used fabric instead of what it should be for a new vehicle.
Today, Land Rover claims they solved their problem so we ended up with a still relatively new vehicle with old looking fabric and the manufacturer just claims that was it for them.
Needless to say after the whole process which lasted more than one year was not only aggravating but we feel chated in all senses and the treatment was less than par. We felt we were dealing with an used car dealership and not a luxury SUV that we purchased for $45K.
Very dissapointing! We will seek legal advice but most than likely will en dup just getting rid of the vehicle and going for a true luxury SUV with Lexus or BMW which have excellent customer service experience when you need it.

At any random given point in time, the car stalls, does not turn on, sometimes you can not accelerate or brake while driving the vehicle. This is the ultimate scare any driver could experience.
We complained for months and were told all sorts of excuses ranging from: not being able to re-create the condition therefore nothing could be done to solve it. We were also told that the car needed software updating, and the latest was that there was cable problems. They brought in the Engineer to see what he could assess and analyze and he claims to have fixed the problem and condition this particular LR3 has.
We do not believe the LR3 is fixed and is in good, safe, and driveable condition. We also do not want to risk the lives of our children or ourselves. There is NO guarantee the problem has or can ever be fixed. We are asking for a replacement and if all else fails we will go into litigation.

Ford/Landrover called this normal wear and tear on the most critical driveline component in a 4 wheel drive vehicle.
The following letters were sent to various ford (fix or repair daily) and Land Rover (Land Rovers are Lemons) executives with no result other than a vague phone call from an admin from Landrover promising to see if they could help if there were further failures but reemphasizing that this failure at such low mileage was normal and to be expected.

recalls but when's the last time you read about a Land Rover recall? Bet you haven't.
I heard rumors from a friend of mine who's a mechanic for Land Rover about Recall B148.
It has to do with anti-lock brakes system and some pressure reduction valve closers.
I don't know how they get away with it but Land Rover is so secretive about its recalls
that most consumers never hear about them. Somehow Land Rover of North America does not
report its recalls through the same channels used by the Big 3.
Sometimes Land Rover will send mail recall notices privately to owners,
but never to the newspapers.
I'm told by a Land Rover mechanic that sometimes even Land Rover owners won't get a notice
and the recall correction might be made without the owner even knowing. The owner takes his
Land Rover to a dealer for repairs and the recall item is fixed.
The service manager makes a note in the his computer and the owners service receipt will
have a line that says something like Campaign B148, Discovery Series II 1999.
Unless the owner asks the service manager, he will never learn that a recall item
has just been corrected.
Land Rovers may or may not be good vehicles. We are being robbed of the opportunity of
making up our own minds because Land Rover is so secretive about its recall campaigns.

Purchased used 2000 Range ROver in May 2003 from Bear Valley Land Rover in Atlanta suburb. This SUV had about 43000 miles on it with a remaining 5,000 warranty. I did not purchase an extended warranty. At about 53000 miles (all highway and city) the Transmission failed and I had to spend about $4,000 replacing it. Now at about 57,000 the air bag Block Valve and Compressor failed (I was given an estimate by LR of CHatt to replace both for about $1,800 or convert the entire air system to shocks and springs for about $2,100). I made the decision to replace the air suspension system as the dealer indicated that there could be far more expenses related to this system. Additionally my research indicated the Rover has a history of customers having substantial maintenance expenses related to failure of the air suspension components.
At the transmission repair I talked with Bear Valley Rover of Atlanta and to Chattanooga Rover to see if they would help with the repair costs. I as well talked with Land Rover New Jersey and wrote a letter to them. Neither was helpful and in fact one was beligerent and called me a balled faced liar and the other was not interested in helping me. Now the Air Bag Suspension problem ---all with a vehicle that has less than 60,000 road (primarily city) miles and is a pristine looking vehicle and it is maintained well.
I was told, as an attempted argument to minimize my frustration, that the Range Rover was just too highly engineered fo r the US market. I indicated in return that it was not overengineered but represented POOR quality and a lack of standing behind their product by the Company. Can you imagine a $60,000 new car (year 2000 sales price) requiring $6,000 of repairs in less than 60,000 miles???

Freelander engine quit on 12/6/03. When car delivered to local San Antonio dealer, within two hours the dealer advises of new engine needed due to possible hydra-lock, loss of coolant, and extreme off-road abuse. Afterward, local dealer wanted me to pay an additional $800 to tear the engine apart to really see what went wrong (I denied). Local dealer recommended going to insurance to try to pay. Insurance inspects and notes either electrical or mechanical at fault and insurance wont pay.
While at local dealer, car rear main seal develops another oil leak. Car was in local dealers shop the day prior to engine failure for oil change, coolant change and rear main seal leakage (supposedly fixed). While at the dealer, drivers side door hinge somehow gets altered/removed (fianc noted this). Local dealer also attends local club meeting to coerce information out of them regarding my off-road use.
Weeks after incident, Land Rover Fort Worth (good guys) offers assistance and tows car to them.
Months later (they were busy with another Freelander with similar problems), car does in fact require new engine, but due to mud getting into timing belt area (a sealed area?).
The timing belt area has a 1 by 1 inch hole/gap where anything can get in (mud/dirt/gravel).
Fort Worth dealer gets insurance to cover costs (+$12K) for new engine replacement under flood insurance (doesnt raise premium). Some mud was found in bellhousing area (no idea how it got in there). Now, the new engine has a newly added cover on the timing belt area covering the 1 by 1 inch gap. Sounds like Land Rover agrees there is a problem with the old KV6 Freelander engine.
Damages: 3 to 4 months car note payment without car; 3+ months without a reasonable and most likely cause of incident; had to buy a new car for transportation (Fort Worth dealer did offer loaner for short period already had new car by then)
Land Rover Corporate is standing behind San Antonio. Warranty representative is not being helpful.
Freelander does not live up to its reputation as advertised, in fact the Fort Worth mechanics is totally against this car for recommendation (especially with KV6 engine). Car was not abused and was used within the stated recommendations for off-road and wading use.
Found an article where a Land Rover senior representative stands behind Freelander off-road use (wheel deep in mud). New statement by Land Rover chronicle states that Freelander was not intended to compare to Discovery and Defender, and new 2006 Freelanders will have a more advanced, sealed engine (probably the engine I have now).
This is the major problem I have faced. Yet, many other Freelander drivers are experiencing failure with the rear main seal, and numerous other issues.
Land Rover is falsely advertising the off-road capabilities of the Freelander, and definitely not sticking to any warranty standards.
New update: Starter needs replacing; mechanic is coming up with numerous computer errors since new engine rolls over once and then dies.
Damages: 3 to 4 months car note payment without car; 3+ months without a reasonable and most likely cause of incident; had to buy a new car for transportation (Fort Worth dealer did offer loaner for short period already had new car by then)

At 53,000 miles the torque converter and transmission went bad and had to be replaced at a costs of approximately $4,100.
While i did not purchase an extended warranty, this vehicle should not have had a transmission failure at 53,000 miles. Range Rover is supposedly the world standard for off road vehicles and I would argue that 53,000 miles well below what would be considered normal wear and tear for a Range Rover transmission. The only thing I did was to MINIMALLY adjust my position in the center of the lane I was in.

I noticed that a long steel bar was hanging down from the front end . I did not realize till the following day that this was the stabilizing bar( technically referred to as track rod assembly).

On May 4, 2000, My sister and I were on our way to the mall. I was driving on a three way lane road, I happened to look in my left mirror to make sure I wasn't going to hit anyone when I saw all this white smoke behind me. I thought I was overheating, so I pulled over, turned the car off. I looked behind me in the mirror and saw a trail of some liquid leading to the car, that's when my sister yelled there's a fire under the hood. My sister and I had enough time to grab our purses and run out of the truck. I called 911, the police showed w/in 2 minutes, by the time the fire dept showed up, the truck was engulfed in flames. The truck was towed to a tow lot and is now still there.
I got a copy of the police report and brought to my insurance dealer, who told me my vehicle wasn't covered (I didn't have option 1 on the vehicle). I called my credit union where my loan is taken from and they told me they couldn't do anything, to just keep paying my loan. I called Land Rover in Natick, MA, they told me to call the headquarters. I talked with a woman over a course of a week, who had a Land Rover inspector look at the vehicle without me being there.
She told me the inspector couldn't find the cause of the fire and since the vehicle is a 1994 Land Rover Discovery with 136,000 miles, that they are not responsible for this. So in the meantime, I'm paying my loan without a car. I'm not looking for a new Land Rover, I just wish someone could pay off my loan so I can get a new vehicle.
That day and a couple weeks after, I was very emotional. I thanked God that my sister and I are fine, it could of happened a different way. Now everytime I see a Land Rover, I still get a little upset because I absolutely loved that truck, I only had it for a year and a half. To see my truck in flames hurt so much, it was my first vehicle, I took good care of it. I know it's just a material thing but I am stuck with this loan for almost $9,000, I just hope something can be done.
