      Hyundai Venue extended warranty basics

South Korean automobile manufacturer Hyundai says that it has “America’s best warranty,” offering a 5-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper and 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain factory warranty right off the lot. But like most cars on the roads these days, the Hyundai Venue is built for roadworthiness long past those mileage points. If you plan to keep your Venue for years to come, investing in an extended warranty may be a good idea for protecting yourself against eligible repair costs down the road.

      Factory warranty vs. extended warranty

The factory warranty on your Hyundai Venue begins at the time of purchase, and it doesn’t cost anything extra. You’ll also have the option to purchase an extended auto warranty from Hyundai that offers financial protection for certain repairs up to 120,000 miles.

Alternatively, you might consider purchasing an extended warranty from a third-party company. Extended car warranty companies offer a variety of plans and terms, and you should explore your options from several carriers to find the right extended warranty for your needs. This article, however, focuses specifically on extended warranty plans offered directly by Hyundai.

      When extended coverage starts

Despite Hyundai’s stellar (and lengthy!) factory warranty, you can go ahead and purchase an extended warranty at the time you purchase your new Venue, if you choose. And don’t worry: you won’t be paying for something you already have.

Instead, you’ll likely lock in a favorable price on a warranty that begins immediately after your factory warranty expires. Manufacturers, Hyundai included, tend to offer better prices on warranties while the car is still in great condition. You can wait to purchase an extended warranty later, which will allow you time to comparison shop. But keep in mind that the price may climb the closer you get to the manufacturer’s warranty expiration.

      Extended warranty eligibility

Hyundai places no hard and fast eligibility requirements on extended warranty purchases. Instead, the company considers specific vehicle factors such as mileage, title condition, vehicle inspection results and vehicle age.

In some cases, you may be able to purchase an extended warranty for your Hyundai Venue after the factory warranty expires, but you’ll likely pay a higher price for less comprehensive coverage. And depending on factors like the condition and mileage of your vehicle, you may be denied altogether.

      Hyundai Venue extended warranty plans

Hyundai’s extended warranty offers three levels of protection for your Venue: Powertrain, Gold and Platinum. While this is similar to most other manufacturers’ extended warranty offerings, the table below can help you understand exactly what’s covered for your Hyundai Venue. Remember to read over your exact plan for a full understanding of your coverage.

Hyundai PowertrainManufacturerEngine, transmission and drive axle8 years/120,000 miles$0 or $100
Hyundai GoldManufacturerSame parts as the Powertrain plan, plus front and rear suspension, fuel system, heating and AC8 years/120,000 miles$0 or $100
Hyundai PlatinumManufacturerSame parts as the Gold plan, plus electrical, steering, brakes, CV boots, high-tech parts, audio and navigation components8 years/120,000 miles$0 or $100

The brand’s extended warranty comes with these additional benefits as well:

      • 24/7 roadside assistance that includes flat tire service, fuel delivery, jump starts and locksmith service
      • Towing assistance to the nearest authorized Hyundai service provider
      • Rental car reimbursement $35 per day for up to 10 days if your Venue is in the shop for a covered repair
      • Trip interruption coverage up to $200 per day for up to five days if a covered breakdown occurs more than 200 miles from home

      Hyundai Venue extended warranty cost

Most Venue owners pay between $1,800 and $3,500 for an extended warranty, based on our research into warranty costs. The Platinum-level warranty, which covers more than 1,500 parts and systems for only $150 more than the next-lower level, is a popular choice among Hyundai owners.

Across the Hyundai brand, we found that it’s significantly less expensive to purchase an extended warranty early on, before the vehicle has high mileage and faces potentially more major repairs. The Venue, with its subcompact size and lower repair costs, often clocks in on the lower side of Hyundai’s extended warranty pricing.

      Hyundai Venue extended warranty exclusions

Even a Platinum warranty has certain exclusions, things that aren’t covered by the warranty. Below, we’ve included a list of maintenance and repairs that aren’t covered under a Hyundai extended warranty.

      • Routine maintenance: While some brand-new vehicles come with a short-term, complimentary maintenance package, these services (oil change, tire rotation, fluid top-off) are never included in an extended warranty.
      • Normal wear and tear: Over time, you’ll have to pay for tire rotation or replacement, worn brake pads and rotors, wiper replacement and more.
      • Cosmetic issues: Scratches, dents, fading and upholstery damage are not covered under Hyundai's extended warranty plans.
      • Aftermarket add-ons: Thanks to its lower price tag and simplistic design, people often customize the Hyundai Venue for a more elevated aesthetic and driving experience. But anything you add to your Hyundai Venue after purchase will not be covered under warranty.
      • Environmental damage: Damage caused by hail, floods or other acts of nature are not covered under warranty. If your vehicle is damaged by any of these things, contact your auto insurance company.
      • Neglect or misuse: Using your Hyundai Venue for racing or towing heavy loads could void your warranty, so be sure to read the fine print before using your vehicle in a way that the manufacturer wouldn’t consider normal driving.

        FAQ

Can I buy a Hyundai Venue extended warranty later?

While you don’t have to purchase an extended warranty for your Hyundai Venue when you buy the vehicle itself, plans tend to become more expensive as the vehicle ages. That’s because repairs tend to be larger and more expensive on older cars and those with higher mileage.

What is the difference between Platinum and Gold extended warranty plans?

Both the Platinum and Gold plans provide coverage for your Hyundai Venue for up to eight years or 120,000 miles. But the Platinum plan covers many more components; it protects everything covered in the Gold plan, plus your vehicle’s electrical system, steering, brakes, CV boots, high-tech parts, audio and navigation components.

How do I file a claim under my Hyundai Venue extended warranty?

If your Hyundai Venue needs a covered repair, you can schedule a service appointment at an authorized dealership or service center. A technician will inspect and diagnose the issue, then seek preauthorization for the repair from the warranty center, and you’ll pay the deductible.
