Purchased a 2017 Hyundai 2/20. Several months ago there was a hailstorm. Afterward numerous large chips of paint were missing. Found out it was a manufacturing defect in paint. Hyundai only wanted to pay 80% of 2 panels. There were 3 panels with large paint chips and I noticed many small ones starting to form. When calling Hyundai they told me I would have to give up that "good will" offering and resubmit with the 3 panels and chances are I would get nothing! I also had to have the paint job done at that dealer. My cost to do 2 panels was almost $400. My cost for the 3rd panel around $900 to $1,000. Plus when the other panels start chipping another $900 to $1,000 per panel! That is outrageous for a 2017 vehicle. Sold the car and will not purchase another vehicle from Hyundai or its subsidiaries.

Motor went out and was under warranty. It's been in the shop for over a year. Finally Hyundai decided after two failed motors that they would buy our car back. The offer came in and they would buy our car back once we paid them $1,000. Now that's not. They would buy our car. Once we paid him $1,000 we had to pay them $1,000 and they would take our car back. This was a recall on a motor. We own the car and they wanted us to pay them to buy it back. Absolutely ridiculous. Will never ever buy another Hyundai as we still fight to get our car back just as it was when we took it in one year ago. Still sitting in the service shop. Waiting for a motor.

I'll start by saying I have been a loyal customer of Hyundai for many years. This is my second Hyundai vehicle and I was quite happy with it until last year, when the paint on my vehicle started peeling unexpectedly. After some research, I learned that it's a known issue which would typically result in a recall (but did not). The dealership I work through filed a claim with Hyundai on my behalf which was denied. Paint continued peeling in the same spot as well as in new areas. At this rate, my car will look like a military vehicle thanks to the camouflage effect of the peeling paint, which continues spreading and popping up all over the car.
When I tried appealing with Hyundai, I was told that once the original claim is denied, there is nothing else Hyundai can do for me. I am pretty much out of luck and need to pay out of pocket to repaint the entire vehicle. In my opinion, this is a very poor customer approach. If I contributed to the issue in any way or if it was just a small area that was affected, I would have considered handling it on my own. However, since the issue is caused by Hyundai's known problem with poor quality of paint/paint job, expecting a customer to cover the cost to fix it is unreasonable.
I can understand that warranty cannot last forever for things like engines, for example, but peeling paint is not a normal "wear and tear" process (if it was good quality to begin with). Again, the issue is known and widespread. I am not sure who from Hyundai may read this review, but I do hope that it will prompt Hyundai to revisit their decision. Otherwise, this is the last time I will ever buy or recommend Hyundai to anyone because in my eyes, I've been sold a lemon, a bad product the company knows is bad and won't take ownership of the problem. It's just poor business.

2nd Owner of a 2016 Hyundai Sonata and since day one, I noticed the massive amounts of oil the vehicle consumed. I have tried to contact the dealer who I purchased the vehicle from and they will not help because they are a KIA dealership and they only service KIA vehicles, so they referred me to a Hyundai dealership. Since then I have done several oil consumption tests and all of them deemed the vehicle consuming large amounts of oil. When I finally scheduled a oil consumption test with World Hyundai, on my way to do the test the vehicle seized while driving! (Ironic) Soon as I get to the dealership (stealer ship) they tell me they cannot help unless it is covered by Warranty. To be covered by warranty it specifically states to test rod bearing failure, which the dealership refused to do unless I changed the spark plugs. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!

I have a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. I bought this at a dealership and have had nothing but issues! Recently my car broke down randomly no check engine lights nothing. I’ve gotten oil changes for the past year every other month and no one could tell me the issue. It ended up being a recall issue and Hyundai has had my car 3 weeks and pretty much told me go screw myself oh well. No help with a rental, no resolution and no care for the work I’ve missed or the fact that this car is garbage. Do not buy.

My daughter bought a 2011 Hyundai Sonata in 2017 as a 16 year old. At age 20 the car had 98,000 mi and is just about 10 years old. Because she is a second owner, she doesn’t get to use the 10 year, 100,000 mi warranty but we heard that within the recall timeframe they do sometimes help customers. This is not the case for us. My daughter did take care of her car but not at the dealerships because they are too expensive. She did not know of the engine recall.
Within only 2 months of the recall timing, her engine broke. Hyundai will do nothing at all to help her even though they admit to creating a faulty engine. The car is stuck at a Hyundai dealership that did confirm her engine troubles are because of the faulty Hyundai craftsmanship and they have applied to Hyundai for help and we have been turned down. This has now left a full time college student without a car to get to school or work and no funds to replace her car or engine. We will never support or promote Hyundai because they clearly do not support their customers or choose to build loyal customers.

My 2011 Hyundai Sonata has been burning oil since it hit 120,000 miles. Hyundai had sent a few letters explaining that this is a known problem in their Sonata's from 2011-2014. I did the Oil Consumption Test as per the requirements in order to possibly have the motor replaced. They proceeded to tell my dealership that it is not covered because the car is over 100,000 miles. I had a case worker with Hyundai tell me that if there is an internal problem with the car they will replace the motor. They are saying that it is normal wear and tear. I have never had a car burn oil as this one does and it's progressively getting worse. The car burns 3 quarts of oil every 1000 miles. Obviously it is an internal problem if it is burning oil. Either that or they lie about how good their cars are and that they don't last more than 120,000 miles.

I have a 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid and loved it. In 2018 the car started periodically stalling out, all lights on dashboard came on, and this annoying alarm starts beeping. My dash reads "Hybrid Check System warning" and it told me to pull over. It would usually start after 10 or 15 minutes and I wouldn't have that problems for months down the road again. I took it to the dealership in Longview, Tx and of course they never could find anything. I even recorded it one time with my phone and when I went to show them they didn't seem interested.
Mind you this started in 2018 and the car was still under warranty at that time. I have even emailed Hyundai headquarters, and they replied they tried to reach me, but that's not true either. Over a month ago the car stalled out. Same dashboard lights and alarm, only this time it would not start. Had it towed to the dealership and they tell me the motor is locked up, and remind me several times the warranty is now out on the car. Mind you I have been trying to get help since 2018 while car was still under warranty. Needless to say I have no answers, no car, not even a rental offered to me. Did I mention Hyundai just issued an engine recall within the last several months? Mine was supposedly not affected, but how ironic my cars motor has locked up on me now..BAD BUSINESS.

Hyundai refused to cover seized motor on 2011 Hyundai Sonata due to me not performing the knock sensor upgrade despite being informed by MULTIPLE Hyundai customer care representatives that the upgrade notification was never mailed to me. Was mailed to previous owner!! Hyundai was found at fault for producing a defective vehicle which just so happened to be one that I owned and in a effort to put a band aid on their defective motors they required that the knock sensor be installed for the motor to be covered. Would have been incredibly nice to know this Hyundai! Oh but the previous owned was notified so claim denied. Completely ignorant! Will never consider purchasing another Hyundai and I will make sure to tell my experience to anyone and everyone who will listen.

In 2018, I purchased a brand new Hyundai Sonata for my 16 year old daughter. I felt that she could have the car at least till she graduated college with the Hyundai 5 Year/60K Mile warranty. What could go wrong? About 19 months after owning the car, the antenna fin cover on the roof and the front Hyundai grill emblem "H" came off while washing the car. By the way, I have a yearly car wash subscription with a local car wash business so the car gets washed at least twice a week. Anyway, I was able to recover the the fin cover but not the front emblem.
I take the car to the dealership to have fixed/replaced. Guess what? The service tech tells me they are not covered. What?? It has a 5 year/60k mile warranty. Nope. Those items are considered accessories. So what! Well, accessories are only covered under the 12 month/1 year warranty. Sure enough, Hyundai has a 12 month/1 year warranty on "accessories". Now, keep in mind, these items were installed at the factory when it rolled off the line and in fact are on EVERY SINGLE HYUNDAI SONATA. Okay. Shame on me for assuming that the 5 year/60k warranty meant "bumper to bumper". However, the car still ran great.
Now, fast forward another year. I get a notice that there is a major engine flaw in these Sonatas. I get a notice that they are extending the engine warranty way past the powertrain warranty. Cool. They identify a major problem and are willing to correct it. However, last month, the volume button on the steering wheel broke. No biggie. I'll take it to the dealership to fix it (under warranty) when I get the oil changed. I've owned this vehicle for three years now and have 26,000 miles on it. All maintenance done on this vehicle has ALL been done at a Hyundai dealership. All records reflect that.
So, the dealership changes the oil but will not replace the button. Why? Not covered. Service tech says it is because of abuse. Really? The button goes up and down. That's it. The car is washed and cleaned at least twice a week. You can eat off the floor of this car. In fact, I get a cold call from the salespeople just about every time I take it in for an oil change that they want to buy the car back or if I'm interested in trading it in. Dealership will fix the button for $350. Ummmm, NO.
So, I reach out to Hyundai Customer Care for assistance. Long story short, they referred me back to my local Hyundai dealership. I'm done. I have reached my limit. Hyundai's drivetrain may go a half million miles but doesn't mean squat if the vehicle falls apart around it. If Hyundai will not fix the simple things "under warranty", I refuse to take a chance on something major happening. I've owned numerous vehicles in my 46 years on this planet and have NEVER, EVER had such a problem with any auto manufacturer/dealership honoring their warranties.
I traded the Sonata in on a Toyota Camry faster than the time it took to buy it. I know for a fact that Toyota will honor their workmanship and warranties. I was very disappointed in what Hyundai did. They tout their long warranties and customer service. But the warranty is only as good as the service backing it. I, nor my family will do business with Hyundai. I cannot in good conscience recommend Hyundai to anybody. Good luck to the next sucker who buys this car.

I received a promotional advertisement in the mail offering to pay off the remaining 7 payments on our 2013 Sonata lease if I lease a new Hyundai. We visited the dealership and signed a new lease agreement for a 2015 Sonata. The dealership did pay off the remaining 7 payments but now Hyundai finance is coming after me for breaking the lease early and owing the difference between ADJUSTED Lease Balance $18,347.30 less REALIZED value $13,500 leaving us a balance of $2794. We were never told about this balance until 10/8 and feel we are being defrauded by Hyundai corporate.
I could have kept the car and paid out the lease $2100 but was lured into dealership with promise of paying off 2013 lease if we purchased a 2015 Hyundai which we did. So to recap, I was lured into dealership to give back care early, Dealership agrees to pay off lease $2100 which they did, now Hyundai corporate is trying to defraud me out of more money which is not right. We have leased a 2015 and 2018 Sonata after this supposed balance was owed.
Be very wary of Hyundai and they will BAIT you in, promise to pay off lease, and will leave you holding a balance owed that you are unaware for years. They are telling me it is part of the lease agreement when you relinquish a lease early which is fine but that clause becomes NULL and VOID when the dealership agrees to pay off the remaining balance owed on that lease. I feel I was baited and defrauded by Hyundai Corporate. How many others I wonder who they did this to. By anything other than Hyundai unless you want to leave room for you to be defrauded after the fact. We would never have turned in a lease owing $2100 just to be defrauded out of $2700 after the fact. This is not right.

Purchased a brand new 2013 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T with 13 miles on the odometer. At 4,000 miles, the oil light and check engine light illuminated. Took the car into the Hyundai dealership for its first oil & filter change. Service dept. said to keep an eye on the oil and check engine light as they could not duplicate the issue. At approx. 5,000 miles the lights came on again. I took the car to the Hyundai dealer and they kept it for 2 days. Upon picking the car up the service department said they could not duplicate the issue and the car is OK. At 8,000 miles the light issues re-appeared and I took the car in for an oil & filter service and left the car there for 2 days. The service dept. said they could not duplicate the issue and the car is OK. At approx. 12,000 miles the same light issues re-appeared and the dealer changed oil & filter and ran some tests. They assured me nothing was wrong.
Winter set in and I could hear "clatter or ticking" from the engine compartment. Hyundai service said "it's normal because of winter." No, I had enough of this. I envisioned this car as being a continual headache and traded it for a new top of the line Honda Accord V-6 and have driven happily ever after. Last year, I get a postcard in the mail advising me of a class action lawsuit against Hyundai and I was eligible if I still own the car. Glad I got rid of the Hyundai and will never buy another.

I purchased a 2015 Hyundai Sonata with 10 miles on the odometer. It was a great car for 39,119 miles, then came the engine problems. I first noticed a metallic rattle coming from the engine at around 4000 RPM. I took it to the dealership. They noticed that the car was a quart and a half low on oil and found metal shavings on the dipstick...on a 39,000 mile car. They started an oil consumption test, and of course they tried to blow me off. Once getting the car back back from the dealer (RaySkillman Hyundai west in Indianapolis IN.) I found that they had overfill the oil by a quart and a half, the exact amount that it burned. I went back and let them have it, when I got home, I noticed that the oil was overfilled again.
The car now has 51,125 miles and sometimes it’ll burn A quart of oil, sometimes it’ll burn a half a quart oil, sometimes it won’t burn any at all. What is going on with my car is NOT normal. Hyundai is doing nothing about it, they only care about your money. Grandma had a 2013 Elantra and the engine started knocking at 36,000 miles, the transmission went out at 57,000 miles, she’s had numerous suspension and electrical problems with that car. I was left stranded with my family waiting for a tow truck on the side of the road for hours. Missed hours of work getting towed and the list goes on. So I told them I would take whatever they would give me so I signed a form stating that I would be ok with $300 for the horrible experience I have had with my brand new car with under 50,000 miles and they send me an email back saying that I only get $200 now 8 months later.
I would never buy a car from this company again. We just bought a new Ford and have loved the service and taking care of me. Whatever you do dont buy from them. They say they will take care of you with so many empty promises and I dont even care if I get a dollar from them if my post can save people from making the mistake that I did. I bought my 2016 Hyundai Sonata in 2017. My first year was great with my car. I take it in as required for maintenance as it has a great maintenance for life package. 2018 it began with things going wrong with the car- downshifting on the interstate from 6th to 5th gear. It took my car in 4 times in 2019 before the problem could be duplicated. It took me another 2 times before they decided to replace my transmission (dealer had my car for 42 days)- my car was 2 years old. The problem still occurs with the brand new transmission in addition to new issues (which they cannot duplicate the issue but I can each and every morning I drive my car). I have taken my car in for a few more issues this year and have now at least 3 times and issues cannot be duplicated. However when I pick my car up it duplicates the issue for me right away.
My warranty is going to run out in 24,000, and I have been trying to get issues resolved with my car since it had 60,000. When my warranty expires all of these things I have tried to get repaired and taken care of with my extended warranty will all be out of my pocket costs on a car that is less than 4 years old. I am terrified. I bought brand new because I didn't want the issues you would or could get buying used. The dealership I take it to is part of Hyundai and the customer car care people and mechanics let me explain what is going on and then look at me like I am dumb. Sometimes I ask is it because I am a woman? Or do they know the car is going to have issues and my warranty is coming up so let us look at it and not duplicate issue? Ultimately all I ask for is for a car that I get what I paid for- and I am not taken for granted. I need a car as I have to work, and I have a family to take care of.

On 1/4/2020 I bought a brand new Hyundai Sonata. Very excited, it was my very first car purchase under my name. 3 months into this purchase and I feel it’s a death trap. The car just turned off and stopped while I was driving it. This happened on 4/12/2020. I didn’t give it much importance. Less than 3 weeks later it happened again. I’m driving the car and it stops out of nowhere. Now I start worrying about what’s going on with the car..luckily this happened at a shopping center parking lot and not while driving in the freeway.
The next day I call the dealership with my concerns and obviously they don’t care. They treated me like I was a nobody, but that’s another story. I took the car in to have that issue fixed. The next day I go to pick it up and they only fixed some recalls the car had. They said the computer didn’t see anything else concerning my issue.
At this point I can’t trust my own car. I can’t drive a car not knowing what’s causing my car to stop while in motion. I can’t drive my car knowing that the issue hasn’t been fixed. After I told that to the guy at the dealership, he just told me if it happens again bring it back. To me it didn’t make sense so I decided to leave the car there and Perdue a case with Hyundai motor America. After they open the case Hyundai America told the dealership to just run the car for 50-80 miles to duplicate the issue. I called and they said to pick up the car because the couldn’t duplicate the issue and the car is fine. If I don’t pick it up I might start getting charged for leaving the vehicle there.
I love the car, the look, how it drives but I don’t trust at this point. I feel like it’s a death trap and that I’m putting my Life in danger al also my families. They just say if it happens again bring it back, but I don’t want to take the risk of the issue happening again. For a brand new car with very low miles I shouldn’t be having any issues especially one that might hurt people. I don’t know what else to do. Don’t buy this vehicle until they can assure that it won’t be stopping while you are driving. I’m on the hook for 6 years so I don’t know what I’ll do but I don’t feel I’ll be driving a Hyundai Sonata again in my life.

We had leased the car & then decided to buy at end of lease. Very difficult procedure; lots of things got mixed up. Trouble with license plate, title transfer, etc.

Because this model car was reviewed in 2006 as the best value for money and the fact that it had all the bells and whistles included at no extra charge (sun roof, heated seats, aircon, hifi speakers & cd player, and much more) --we bought one new (gasoline model) for about $24,000 (in Europe). Besides that it had timeless good looks. We just sold the car for $2,000 after using it for nearly 14 years with no servicing, & no repairs at all. The Hyundai Sonata was the most reliable & most trouble free car we have ever owned. For reasons unknown, this model was (undeservedly) never popular in Europe. But we loved it.

Same thing happened to me @ 114k km (2014 Sonata), I went to Maple Hyundai (Carlos service advisor), HC replaced my engine for free, I had no extended warranty. I just had to prove I had regular oil changes done, which I did. It was a fairly easy process, no one tried to screw me over, HC must know it's a huge issue.

At 105k my steering wheel started making clunking noises, did research and knew exactly what it was. The part itself is $1.26 but I got charged for extensive labor costs. This should of been a recall, as it was a safety concern and I should not have to pay b/c Hyundai decided to use a cheap part in the steering column. They said it had an extended warranty but only up to 100k, and I was just past that.
After fighting with national and a rude case manager, I Just forked up the cash. I also got an oil change during my visit, and 2 weeks later my oil light came on and I had no oil. It was a weekend so I bought oil to put in my car until I could go to the dealership Monday, They said I would need to pay for another oil change and start an oil consumption test. I got another oil change and 2 days later my oil light back on and it was over halfway gone.
The manager told me to come back once more 2 days later and he would get me a rental and my engine would be replaced per warranty on it up to 12ok. I get a call 3 days later saying they are not fixing it and I need to come get my car and bring it back to get topped off every time the oil gets low. I am extremely dissatisfied and considering trading this car in for something else. AVOID HYUNDAI. Customer service and the dealership are horrible. I will gladly go back to Honda or Toyota and not deal with this BS ever again.

Had clunking noise in front end when turning wheel or parking. Took to my mechanic and he said it was the steering coupler which is a known issue in the Sonata. Recommended that I call them and see what they could do for me. Since this was a problem, they extended the warranty to 100,000 miles or ten years. Well of course I had a little over 100,000 miles on my 2012 Sonata. Had to pay 100 times for labor of what the part cost. If it would not have been a safety issue, I would not have replaced it. I feel that since it was a safety issue, Hyundai should have been responsible. My car has mostly highway miles so many parts may last longer than city driving. The warranty on the new part is 1 year or 12,000 miles so guess I may be looking at a different make of car when that time comes.

Bought a new 2018 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Limited after my 2012 Hyundai Genesis sedan broke down after the 10th time but this time out of warranty decided to traded it in instead of fixing the Genesis. The Sonata has had 3 issues, but one has occurred 6 times now. The car has been in the shop 6 times in the past 10 months of owning it, coming around on the 19th day my car has been at the dealer for the since 09/09/19. My cars hybrid systems has issues over and over again, each time they add fluids, replace parts, flush systems. This last time, the 19 days at the dealer, the car was having the same issue but this time a technician drove it home multiple times and had the car hooked up to a tablet. The tablet showed that the cars hybrid system was overheating, the car never once notified the driver about this overheating issues, had to wait for Korea to know how to fix the Sonata.
My car has 35,*** miles on it, had been to the dealer since 6,000 miles with this issue, the computer showed the that the cars hybrid system has been overheating since mile 208. The car is ready for pick up tomorrow 09/30/19. Technician From Hyundai in Korea said to replace the water pump, the computer system, and the radiator cap. They call me Friday and tell me it’s ready to go home. So now I have a car with some new parts, but for 35,000 miles the other parts have been getting damaged.
I called Hyundai customer support about lemon law, they took info and requested service records. Two days go by I talk to a nice lady, explains Hyundai is looking over the info and has approved the LEMON BUYBACK, they would send me over a offer. I get the Lemon buyback offer, they offer me $2000 to keep the vehicle and the other offer was the buy back. All payments refunded, down payment, and Pay off loan. But mileages is at 35k, I’m in the car driving on the highway 3/5 hours a day there’s a mileage fee. The want me to pay $10,500+ for mileage.
I call Hyundai and ask for a better offer, the buy back is way out of the picture, Hyundai would essentially be making another $3,000-$6000 off selling the car again after I paid $11,000. On the phone with the agent, asked if I can have 20% of the msrp of $31,000 or a mileage reduction and help with down payment on a Genesis g70-80 3.3t sport. The reply I got was the same on the buy back, pay the $11,000, or take the increased petty cash of $3000 to keep it, but this was their final offer. I asked if I could get $4000 back and a extend warranty on the car to reinsure the car will be okay, the reply was “Per the review team the final offer is what was sent to you in the revised offer letter,” which was the offer the agent emailed about the $3000.
Hyundai is charging me $10,500+ for mileage. I owed on my Genesis when I traded in so I only had a small down payment at the time, so I would have to pay Hyundai $9,000 for them to take my broken car back. I’m stuck with a certified lemon car that I bought brand new, I will never buy Hyundai again after this. I am going to call tomorrow to a Lemon Lawyer to see what my options are on 10/02/19.

Put me in the car back-up and said it was the axles, but the tire rod ends was put on as a miscall on the behave of the first mechanic. Caught you. I feel this is a serious issue and the dealer (Finch Hyundai) really has no idea what causes the issue. I was assured the first time the car was fixed. They replaced the Main start battery. By the time I got to 6 years and 48,000 miles... any "extended warranty" I received after financing the car was gone. GEICO has a great "extended warranty plan." I found this out when I tried to get my Air Conditioner fixed by Hyundai at about this mark.
The warranty is not granted to anyone buying the car after it has been leased... In other words, according to the Hyundai of Metairie Service & Finance People: "NO CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED WARRANTY EXISTS". THEN THE ENGINE FAILURE AVALANCHE: Within 2 months had to replace: Battery, Engine, 2 Starter Motors, 2 Radiator Fans, Pully/Tensioner System, either a Suspension or Control Arm AND it took 7-8 months of my complaining about Loud Noises under the hood (they could "never hear it") to finally tell me the Alternator needs to be replaced.
They never wanted to pay for any of it. Never found anything wrong with it unless I turned around and blamed them on the spot. Had to fight tooth and nail just to get a rental car or have them. Then there is the Hyundai Claims Settlement... OH MY GOD. It was suppose to take a maximum of 2 months. 6-7 months later... it's still ongoing. Besides trying AVOIDING RESPONSIBILITY AT ALL COSTS, the items that their claims website says is covered (batteries, towing, and other items addressed during the fix) are repeatedly denied at every turn, even going as far as not covering a towing expense. Whats more, when they "issued claim decision", they said there is no way to reimburse me for that towing that they admit to covering verbally.
DON'T EXPECT TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THEM: After calling 60 -100 times, I might have got my case manager on the phone a total of 8. The last 2 case managers, I've got them on the phone 1 time out of 20 calls and messages. Only got an email from one stating a "Final Verdict" of settlements. Additional phone calls had employees lying about being out the office, call back in 10 minutes, that person doesn't work with us, you need to call another department because we can't make decisions once finalized, you need to call the previous department back and talk to a supervisor because I was told a non-truth, etc. If you want the Phone Call recordings, I got those to back it up. I own a 2010 Sonata. The rear brakes together and right brake (additionally) separately have the brakes freeze. First you can hear some grinding. Shortly (within a couple of days) the grinding is loud and with every braking. The brake seizing grinding noise is constant, even without braking. Tire becomes too hot to touch. You can smell burning rubber inside the car.
I have had the brakes (pads, rotors, caliper all replaced twice) done out of pocket. The second time the pads were under warranty - the rest I paid for again. The master cylinder was also replaced. Nothing changed. My mechanic contacted Hyundai mechanic(s). Was told Hyuandi was not familiar with this issue and they had no advice to offer.
My mechanic took the system apart, reassembled, made another adjustment. This time it worked, although my mechanic was not sure exactly why. Until last evening. The car deeply grinds when brakes are depressed. Back break is beginning to ‘freeze up’. Next call is back to my mechanic. Hopefully, at least the pads will still be under warranty. It is not safe to drive it this way. I have seen this issue in several forums. Definitely not alone with this issue. Hyuandi finally issued a TSB on this issue. I do not understand when there are enough complaints to issue a TSB - but no one has died (yet) so Hyuandi will not be subject to a mandated recall. Nor pay for TSB repairs. Sad someone must die before a recall will be issued. I checked with NTSB and no death = no recall.

I had my new 2017 Sonata less than five months and it had 5281 miles on it when the car first stalled at highway speed. That was 11 May 2017. I limped the car to the Catonsville, Maryland Hyundai dealer, a couple of miles away, to find out the car had gone into "limp" mode. That was the first of 11 trips to the dealer either having the car towed or rolled into the service lot. After about the eighth trip, Hyundai sent their regional tech to service the vehicle. A lot of guesses were made and parts replaced, but the car kept failing.
Hyundai USA corporate office offered to assess the car for "lemon law" compensation, but that would take three months and I'd only be reimbursed for part of my purchase price if they concurred. I couldn't go three months without a vehicle, so the eleventh time the car stalled out, on 26 July, I rolled it into the dealer's lot and traded it for another 2017 Sonata. I took a loss on the trade in because the salesman said they'd have to sell the car at auction because it was inoperable. The trade cost me about $5000 overall, not including time missed from work.
In February 2018, I received a recall notice from Hyundai to replace a potentially faulty inhibitor switch, which could cause the vehicle to go into "limp mode" at highway speed. I had the inhibitor switch replaced on my new Sonata, and the service department manager agreed that that must have been the problem with my original Sonata. He promised to do what he could to compensate me for the loss I took on the trade in. After contacting the dealership several times, I was told in December 2018 that there was nothing the dealer or Hyundai would do for me. That included my suggestion for simply offering me free oil changes.
This is the seventh Hyundai my family has owned, and other than this bad experience, we have enthusiastically endorsed the brand. I'm mostly disappointed that I can no longer purchase or recommend a Hyundai product knowing that the company and their dealerships won't stand behind their vehicles or take care of their loyal customers.

Car now dead. The earlier Hyundai cars had good warranty coverage...but now they have let us down. I guess I will have to switch to Toyota or Subaru... I'm upset.

My 2012 Sonata has several cracks in the dash despite having less than 50K miles on it. Hyundai has a customer service set up that sends all the same complaints about a person right back to the same representative and it's impossible to get answers and results. They only want to repeat a script. REMEMBER THAT WHICH IS CHEAP ENDS UP BEING EXPENSIVE. This is the case with Hyundais as they came to the US market a sparkling, new competitor. Now they have a large percentage of the vehicles on the American roads and don't care about the consumer. Save your money and buy a better car - HYUNDAIS ARE A PIECE OF JUNK!

I have had for years the burning engine oil smell inside and over consumption of oil in between 3,000 mile changes up to 1 1/2 qts extra in between. They do a bogus engine recall test at Hyundai dealer after telling them all of that. They tell me your engine is OK it passed the test so it's not one of the engine we accidentally got metal shavings in engine when it was built in Birmingham, Al. It's obvious they call a recall but then make believe it's not all the affected engines to blow people off. Now just got a letter airbag has a recall. My transmission slips what a junk car. We have a 2012 Hyundai Sonata. The front end began to fall apart at approximately 60,000 miles. We have replaced the ignition switch, sending unit to gas tank, fuel pump, struts, tie-rods, steering rack and pinion, and all abs sensors. At 93,000 miles the ENGINE BLEW UP (Hyundai replaced due to the 100,000 mile warranty) while we were out of town traveling. Now the shocks need to be replaced. Additionally, there is an issue with the steering coupling.
After speaking with several customer care reps from Hyundai corporate regarding the defective coupling issue, I was told it was not a recall. It is a "Hyundai Campaign". They will only cover their defective part up to 100,000 miles. I guess if you reach 122,000, the part fixes its self and is no longer defective. How can a manufacturer get away with this??? I was also told that is not a safety issue. My steering wheel is loose, shakes with small bumps in the road and clicks every time I make a turn. Does that sound like a safety issue?? Not according to the Hyundai corporate. Who am I?? Just another dissatisfied, angry and frustrated customer who will eventually go away while they continue to make millions. Total Disgrace!!

This is my third and unfortunately last Hyundai (2012 Hyundai Sonata) that I will own. I took the car in for the recommended 75k service and asked for a check of the front end/suspension as there has been a noise coming from it for a few weeks. The dealer stated that the car needed the steering rack replaced for $1600. I questioned the vehicle with that mileage needing this replaced and they offered no answer, so I decided to call Hyundai Customer Service to voice my displeasure and spoke with a very helpful woman who agreed that this sounded unusual and assigned me a case manager to speak to.
Chris called me today and asked for the information and I replied did he want the longer version, which includes having the lower ball joints replaced three times and having had 4 alignments in the three years I have owned the car or the short version. He asked for the short version and told me there was nothing that could be done and would not even allow me to elaborate at all on the issues that I have had. I asked for an explanation and he said the car was out of warranty and basically too bad for me. I was not looking for a free repair, just looking for some explanation. I will repair the car as in good conscience I cannot give this problem to some unsuspecting buyer and trade it in. I will NEVER buy another Hyundai again and will be trading in my wife's KIA (as they own a portion of KIA) as well to avoid potential future problems. In this age of customer service, Hyundai needs to do some work.

I bought my Sonata 2011 brand new. To this day, I’ve had no major problems with 80,000 miles on it. Routinely, oil changes, new tires, two new batteries, sway bar needed replacement, struts, brakes and random critters chewing on wires. I have been in an accident with the vehicle, At a low speed I tried to merge over and got too close, the right light popped out and my front crunched. The airbags deployed and I had to get all of that repaired, however, I felt safe knowing that the car did do all that in a minor collision. Even for a GLS, it has a nice acceleration. Even if I don’t buy a Sonata in the future (seats a little too low for me), I will definitely stick with Hyundai brand. The only downfall, the indigo blue color. It’s expensive to get paint to fix scratches. I think current models might not have to worry about that.

I took it into Lancaster County Motors Hyundai division where I bought it and they filed a report of my problem. Just received a phone call from Lancaster Hyundai and Hyundai Corporation is sending a new motor to be installed at no charge. I'm amazed at how Hyundai stands behind their cars. I'm a customer for life and would recommend to anyone that they should buy a Hyundai.

The handling of the vehicle is very easy. The warranty is also top notch - 100,000 miles. Service and parts are easy to obtain. It would be nice to have navigation, but I'm sure that will be included on any upcoming models we would buy. The cars are wonderful as they are and the overall performance is great!

It has a large interior, fuel economy and an aerodynamic shape. It has good gas mileage but with the touch of a button, it can be turned to turbo for extra power to pass other cars. It has a sleek overall appearance and it is a beautiful silver color that does not show how dirty you car is and always looks good. It has a Bluetooth compatibility with my iPhone and it also has car play which when you hook up your phone to it it puts your phone screen on the interactive screen. From there you can play your own music library, maps and navigation system.
It also reads your emails to you and lets you reply with voice recognition software and it allows you to use your phone to call or answer a call hands free and without looking at phone. It has a back up camera that is not only very useful in backing up but also when backing into a parking space. It has lots of storage both in the car interior and in the trunk. In the car it has a sunglasses holder, a large glove compartment and a middle console that has two drink holders, a change holder and a large compartment to hold CDs or lotion or pens or a pocket knife or my side arm which I take everywhere. However, I would like for it to Not have Black dash because it holds too much heat and also, would like a little darker seat colors to camouflage all the spills from grand babies.

The Hyundai Sonata starts up fine and drives fine. Good deal at the time at the car lot. It was originally 15000 and it was 13000 that day. I prefer to have a SUV but the Sonata was what I could afford at the time of purchase. I have owned it for a couple of years now and I still owe 7000. It has plenty of room for my two kids to fit comfortably and it is family friendly. However, it has engine problems, but haven't had any issues yet. It had a recap on the engine, I took it in and they just did a oil change. It also had a decal on the seatbelt, but it passed inspection. Also I wish it had a back up camera. Other than that, I like how you can move the mirrors from inside the car. Very helpful.

I chose this car because I got an excellent deal on it and it runs like a gem. The features I really enjoy about this car are the smooth lines and how sporty it looks for a sedan. I also enjoy the heated seats and the blue tooth connection so that I may talk on the phone through the car speakers. The car also rides very smoothly! All in all, it's my smartest car purchase ever! But I wish my car had sunroofs. I'd also prefer a 2-door coupe as opposed to a sedan. I also dislike that it's only a 4-cylinder instead of a V-6 (I'd prefer it to have a little more power).

It does include a lot of safety features like the lane departure warning and back up camera. In addition, I do like the fact that it gets very good gas mileage. I also like the fact that it has automatic and heated seats. The sunroof is a nice touch too. While I'm satisfied with the car, I would like it to have dual climate control like my last car did. I would also like the car to handle better in rain and snow as it slides quickly in the snow.

The 2013 Hyundai Sonata SE has a surprisingly peppy engine for a 4 cylinder, although the seats can be more comfortably designed. The car never quite gets the alleged 35mpg on the highway, but that can be due to the diluted gasoline we get, mixed with ethanol.
