DO NOT PURCHASE GM PRODUCTS. I purchase a new 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 a month ago and it is now in the shop for the second time. It has been in the shop for over two weeks and in all, it has been in the shop for roughly three of the four weeks I have owned the truck. Since I need my truck to work, I am now losing income while at the same time I am making payments on a truck that is in the shop. To make matters worse, the GM Corporation has repeatedly cancelled my parts order with no explanation as to why it did so. Worst of all, despite repeated requests, the GM Corporation will not do anything to make me whole in terms of the financial losses I have incurred as the result of the corporation's poor quality control.
In other words, it is my fault that I bought a defective new product and GM would rather I pursue legal action against the company versus trying to reimbursement in some form or fashion. Hell, they will not even try to place me in a full size loaner vehicle nor have they offered something a small as an extension of my warranty or XM subscription. Therefore, if you want to buy a reliable vehicle from a company that will back their products, do not purchase a GM vehicle. It pains me to say this because I have been a loyal GM client for over 30 years but that is no longer the case. Regards, Mark **.

Brand new 70,000 dollar Gmc Sierra Denali 3700 miles. Loud lifter noise. Never made it to the first oil change. Now they have to tear down the whole engine. Been a GM man my whole life. Saved and worked to get this truck and this is how it is. Maybe it’s time to change.

2003 GMC Sierra - Bad Brakes. Been in two rear collisions because the brakes are weak, had every brake component replaced including lines and hoses and brakes still feel the same. I've read from many others that this is an issue they tried to blame on salty roads rusting the lines but I can assure you even with brand new lines they are no different. Truck sits in the driveway and I'll be buying a Dodge Ram when it comes to my next truck because this one I'm scared to drive and I have thousands of dollars invested in keeping it maintained and replacing poorly designed parts that were redesigned after everyone had issues at our expense.

At 9600 miles my 6.2 motor blew up and almost ended my life while traveling at highway speed on cruise control, in heavy traffic, on the NYS Thruway. Luckily it didn't lock up or I might not have survived. 18 days later a new 6.2 engine direct from the factory was installed. The very day I picked it up, the second stop I made it wouldn't start. 34 consecutive days later without my truck, I finally get it back after starter was replaced, fuel lines, fuel pump, and cam actuator. 3 days later, truck stalls out again at highway speeds and won't start!! GM does nothing but refer me to my dealer who have been great. I had a start issue with my 2017 Chevy Silverado at 30k (4 different times), never resolved. Why I'm here. Why am I here??!! New 2019 loaner truck with 2k on it and the service 4WD light is on!!! Been GM for over 30 years and I don't have a choice but to move on from all this. BUYER BEWARE!!! Oh, PS, truck is still in shop. GM won't even talk to me anymore.

I bought a 2008 Sierra new in 2008. It now has 163000 mi on it. A ticking noise developed on acceleration. I took it to the dealer and was told it had a bad cam. $5300 to repair or $7750 for a new engine. They charged me $139 for this bogus info. I knew it did not have a bad cam. I took it to an independent service dealer. He told me it had a faulty active fuel management.. (runs between 4 and 8 cylinders). Told me to disable it. He did not charge me for this info. I disabled it and it runs better than new. Talked to GM customer service, they didn't do anything except lip service. I just wanted my $139 back for telling me erroneous diagnose. In the last 52 years I have bought 22 GM vehicles. Never again!

I bought my 2014 GMC Sierra on 2017 with 20k miles on it. Within a month I noticed that the paint was peeling in the bed of the truck. I bought it to the dealership and because it was still under warranty they repainted it for me. About six month later I notice the paint was bubbling off the doors. Took it back to the dealership and neither the dealership or GMC would assume any responsibility financially. (Warranty was expired). I had to spend over $1,000 to get my doors repainted. Within several month of me getting the doors done the paint is bubbling off of the roof and around my windows. I know there are many people who are having this same problem with this particular year GMC and Chevy.

Have had new GM trucks since 2010. A new one every year, brand new truck drove off lot and Have had the 8 sp shutter in trans ever since, driver's seat has a bad spring which makes terrible noise. Finally got fed up now. Has 5000 miles. GM will not warranty and repair seat, reprogrammed trans and made the problem worse. GM is losing a customer. I'm going to go to a Ford. It's sad when you buy a truck that cost almost 60k and this is the quality of product you get.

I was nearly killed on the job as an Inspector on a Highway project when I tried to pull out of my lane closure and the drive train and/or brakes locked up on me after accelerating above 5 mph. The dealer is unable to find and fix the issue. Don't drive any of the 2019 GMC pickups for extended periods and/or leave in idle. Unfortunately for me for my job I need to do just that. I am now terrified to drive my truck and it is only a matter of time before I am involved in a serious accident.

I bought a 54K GMC Sierra Denali 1500 thinking that it would last for a while without any issues. Boy I was wrong. I had an engine light on and took it the dealer to repair. They told me that it was the fuel injectors and it wasn’t on my 100000 powertrain or the emission warranty. It is going to cost me $1,600 to repair. I only have 62K miles on it and I take it in religiously for routine maintenance. What’s next? The engine? I should have did more research on GMC products.

GM customer care came up with a "resolution" by offering me 10% off the repair to fix their mistake and sheepishly apologized for the "unexpected cost".
Sunroof has been used a total of 2-3 times since I've bought it, so wear and tear is not the issue (it has let more water into my truck then actual sun). I did not want a sunroof but bought it off the lot with the "upgrade" already there, my only mistake. Either the housing was installed incorrectly or the parts used are faulty. I now have to hand over $1100 (but thank god it's not $1200 anymore!) to correct GM's mistake. At the end of the day, I am a rational person; GMC has product issues just like any other manufacturer. The faulty product is not what disappoints me, the companies lack of integrity to stand behind their product is. Was planning on upgrading to the 2500 next year but will now be going with F-250 (even if I have to pay 10% more to order without the rainroof).

I leased a 2017 Sierra Denali about 1.5 years ago. The truck has been great so far at 18500 miles. Last week the front camera went out (runs intellibeam light function and low speed collision system). It is being replaced under warranty as we speak. I have had several GM trucks and SUVs since 2001, and they have all been reliable, mostly well built vehicles. The magnetic ride control on the Denali is very nice. The interior fit of the truck is also pretty good except for the plastic wood trim. On a $55000 truck it should be real wood. I have also never been able to get the wireless charger in the console to work consistently, but apparently others do not have this problem.
The Bose stereo sounds good, the LTE wifi is convenient, and the seats are comfortable and nicely made, even though they are only about half leather. The synthetic leather is really good though and honestly probably more durable than real leather. The LED headlights are only mediocre at best on low, and good on high. The dual glove compartments are helpful and there is no lack of storage in all areas. The 8 speed transmission shifts nicely, but it takes a few seconds to go into reverse when started first thing in the morning unless you let the engine idle for 10 to 15 seconds. It has always done that and otherwise goes into reverse immediately. I just put it down to some kind of electronic startup procedure that it has to go through.
The 5.3 v8 is a remarkable engine. It idles smoothly, delivers as much power as you need when asked, and gets pretty amazing gas mileage especially on the freeway. The 6.2, which is what my wife's Escalade has, is amazingly powerful and nearly as efficient even in that behemoth. I suspect it would be really awesome in a lighter truck. Between the suspension and the engine I frequently find myself going 85 or 90mph without realizing it. It is governed to 98mph. I routinely get 21-24 mpg and have gotten as high as 27 for short periods of time, usually only if I am going 65 or 70 mph though. My last couple of v8s were lucky to get 20 under similar circumstances. It's really remarkable how efficient these engines are. I am currently driving a v6 Canyon and that engine barely does better on fuel economy than the 5.3 v8, and is worse than my 4.3 v6. The AFM operates well and I cannot tell when it deactivates cylinders.
I have had no issues with oil consumption. I also cannot hear any lifter ticking like I could on my 2014 V6. GM have really done well with this series of trucks-they are much better than the 2013 and below models. I do wish a 6.5' bed was available on these, but the short box is serviceable. The sprayed bedliner is tough, but a bit too abrasive compared to line-x, and I really like the cargo bed LEDs. There are plenty of tiedown points, and the OEM insert ones are easy to install. The dampened tailgate is nice, but I dont care for the locking function that operates in synchrony with the doors. I find I am always trying to open it after locking the truck, which locks the tailgate. I supposed those who have tonneau covers appreciate this feature.
The corner steps built into the bumper are awesome and convenient. The paint quality has improved also. My 14 chevy chipped paint very easily. This truck does not do that, even on the front and rear bumper. I would recommend this truck to anyone. It has a lot of very well done features and is generally deserving of its high price.

I have owned my 2014 GMC Sierra SLE for about 2 years now and have had nothing but problems with the A/C. I live in California and A/C is a must. I have already replaced the A/C air compressor line for $600. After that was fixed the A/C condenser went out and I have been driving around all Summer with my Windows down to keep cool in this California heat. I was told it would be $1200 to replace the condenser plus labor. My GM certified mechanic is telling me he runs into this problem with these models all the time and that I should reach out to GMC to get some assistance on the repair.
The GMC rep hits me with a "after reviewing your file GMC will not be assisting with any cost." I was shocked at the level of Customer Service I was given. I asked why and she just repeated herself. She did not try to help me out at all. She did not try to come to some sort of resolution that would keep me as a happy client of GMC. I was just hoping to split the cost in half since this is a known problem with these models. I'm not looking for a free hand out. Hell I'll even take a couple hundred for assistance to replace this condenser, but instead it looks like GMC is just going to tell me I'm ** out of luck. If this isn't made right there is no way I will be buying a GM truck ever again. Those Toyota Tundras are looking nicer every year.

GMC Sierra is an excellent vehicle with his sensors of getting out of your lane or the front and back sensors save you from having an accident or alerts you before and you can avoid having an accident. WiFi is an awesome thing that you have in this vehicle because if you're still in school you can be in the vehicle submitting assignments. Also the navigation system helps you a lot to get to one place and other. While I love my Sierra, I don't like that thing you step on to get on the truck because they have a plastic thing that with time it cracks.

My experience with my GMC Sierra 2500 has been good. It is a truck that can handle all the terrains, from the daily life of the city to a rocky or mountain terrain. It has a power that yields according to the use. Maintenance costs are balanced, no surprises in terms of repairs. I consider it an incredible option for men in the house. I like how spacious it is. That allows me to move loads without worrying that the shock absorbers can be mistreated. I also like how tall it is. It's a great option to drive safe and with style. But I do not like that it is not easy for me to park it in certain places. It takes up a lot of space and sometimes it is difficult to find a place for example in the shopping centers.

The GMC Sierra 1500 has good dependability. It has safety options included, as well as radio, OnStar and backup assist. Love the color and interior options. Love the sleek design too. It has no road noise, okay gas mileage and I'm happy with dealership. But it has a bit boxy body. I would like the hood/top area not be so straight lined, rather have a slope type design like the 2000s models.

I like that it's a safe vehicle. I feel comfortable driving it and I liked the rear view camera. I had a decent experience with the truck and we've put a lot of miles on it. But the service department where we get the truck's oil changed at isn't very good at doing their job. Also, it's a huge vehicle so it's hard to back it into parking spaces. And there's not enough leg room in the back seat. The GPS isn't very precise and the car detailing should be included once a year as part of their vehicle service package. The WiFi should be included and not have to pay extra for it.

I chose this vehicle because of the old fashion look, and it is not sluggish if a speed is needed. It has smooth ride and very dependable. Drove from the West Coast to the East Coast 4 times. Also from AZ to WA state 4 times. Never any problems. It has low maintenance, lots of leg room, trailer gear works great too. The color was important to us and the purchase price was on point. But the turn signal lights in front collects water/moisture. Replacing bulb often. I dislike the grill front and did not like the wheel size. After a few months, I purchased larger wheels. In addition, a bit of factory tinted glass could be used at the front windshield.

5.3 L V8 Active Fuel Management - Bought a 2012 GMC Sierra Z71 Crew cab in November 2017 with 60,000 miles on it. Cannot put into words how happy we were to buy this truck. Worked very hard to get us out of the old, falling apart Chevy. Paid $27,000 for this truck just 6 months ago and now it's worth next to nothing. There was something wrong with it from the start, it would constantly go from V4 to V8 within seconds. Loud vibration drone sound when it would be in V4 for all of 15 to 30 seconds then back into V8. Was consuming over a quart of oil between oil changes. TICK, TICK, TICK I know lifter noise when I hear it. Was told this was "Normal".
Driving down the highway one week ago, (Had owned the truck all of 6 months now) and out of the blue the StabiliTrak and traction lights came on, flashing check engine light came on and the truck ran like an old buggy. Immediately pulled in to the nearest safe place and limped it to a shop. Misfire on cylinder #1. Collapsed lifter. Brought it to the Chevrolet/GMC dealer where I bought this and they ran the diagnostic codes: Verified that there was a collapsed lifter, an oil leak etc... etc... how much to fix this? (this is an estimate mind you) ELEVEN THOU$AND DOLLAR$. (Seriously folks, this enters the level of insanity).
Technician states he never has ever heard of this being a problem with Chevrolet/GMC trucks. Google search shows THOUSANDS of results for this exact problem. It has to do with the Active Fuel Management system and also the bore hole size and the lifters themselves. This should be illegal. Loyal Chevrolet/GMC consumer for 35+ years. NEVER AGAIN. Also, when I slow down there is a sudden THUNK like I've been tapped from behind. There is a short in the auxiliary port in the radio, the voltage meter is constantly varying, there is a rattle in the engine that sounds just like a hard foam ball rattling in a tin cup. The truck is just, "off".

Bought my truck (2016 Sierra 1500 SLT with 6.2) new December 26, 2015. LOVED the truck, bought the truck. On way home from dealership I noticed noises from the transmission. Took it back next day and told have to drive for 2,000+ miles so the vehicle learns me and how I drive. OK so 2,000 hits back to the dealership, told they can't find anything wrong. Keep driving does it worse and also now clunks when goes in reverse. Take back to dealership again and told they have to reprogram and they need for a whole day to do this. No problem. Pick up and does immediately in the dealership parking lot. Park again and go back in. Told I have to drive again for 2,000 miles so I do. Does worse so take back again, told nothing they can do. That's it's operating as intended... really?
Now 2 weeks ago my bf was driving and the breaks went completely out. I thought he was playing around as I had never had an issue with breaks. Yeah last night they went out on me when pulling in garage. Went to stop so I could back up and move over a little more so I wouldn't hit garage, Yeap you guessed it... it the side of my truck on the garage. Nice scratches to go with it. NOT a happy girl. Called dealership today and they suggested having OnStar tow to them and they will look at it. So on the way to the dealership right now for no breaks. I've lost count of how many times I've had my truck at dealership. I had an Avalanche previously and never once had an issue with it. Decided to upgrade to a nice new GMC with all the options I really wanted including my BOSE speakers, larger motor, tow package. Guess the jokes on me as now she's being towed to dealership. LOVE my truck but hate all the issues.
Updated on 03/05/2018: They have had my truck 11 days now and GM says it's ok to pick up my truck and drive with an intermittent brake issue. So I pull out of the dealership can't stop and get killed by a tractor trailer or hit a small kid in grocery store parking lot is OK with them and no reply. I can't even in good consensus trade truck in as the fear of someone whom buys my truck having brake failure and getting killed because GM did nothing to fix the problem. Not sure what to do. I want my truck fixed.
Updated on 03/19/2018: GM still refuses to do anything with my truck, still claiming it's safe to drive, which it is not. Local dealer is still trying to figure out what's wrong with my truck. They have had since Feb 22, 2018 almost a month now. Owner of dealership has ordered me a new truck. I know I will have to pay to move into new truck but do very much appreciate local dealership making sure my truck is safe to drive. Owner of dealership agrees she can't just sell my truck to an unsuspecting buyer also, which makes me happy. My fear is trading it and have someone else get hurt due to the failure. Glad someone is taking it as serious as I am.

Then two months after that the DEP system went out and it is still in the shop even after a new tank and line were installed. Damn thing goes into limp mode after being driven about 10 miles. I will never own another GMC product. They are JUNK and that DEP system is the biggest piece of junk ever thought of. I have owned a 2015 and a 2016 GMC 3500 one ton Denali. I've had nothing but problems with both vehicles. I purchased these top of the line trucks because downtime in my business will put me out of business. My current 2016 Denali has 24,000 miles on it and the HMI modules has gone bad. We spent a whole day at Hart GMC in Salem, VA to have the problem diagnosed and it finally was around 2:30. We were supposed to leave town on Monday but had to stay in town until Tuesday when the HMI module would be in. It's almost a week later and we have never received a call from the Dealership. We called several times and were told to call back later. We contacted GMC customer service 10 times and no one will do anything about this. We finally had to leave town to get back to our business. We've lost about $5000.00 because of the huge delay leaving town.
Hart GMC in Salem, VA and GMC customer service have treated us very badly and our $70,000.00 truck still does not work properly. GMC is not professional grade and neither is their customer service. GMC has lost a life long customer and I wouldn't let Hart GMC work on my lawnmower. We have had numerous other problems with these trucks but this is the last straw!

I bought a 2014 Sierra SLT 1500 in Nov of 2014 and at 50k miles it is just falling apart. It has been riddled with nothing but problems and GMC customer support does not care at all about my experience. They take their sweet time to get back to you and when I ask to talk to a manager the customer service rep says there's no one else that I can talk to. To give you an idea of what I've been through here's a timeline of the issues that have plagued the truck: 6/13/15 - Passenger sunshade fell apart. 12/8/15 - A/C doesn't function correctly, 4WD Recall, Front window won't go up. 8/10/16 - Seat belt tensioner cable went out. 10/6/16 - A/C compressor hose went out. 10/16 - Recall on Air Bag SDM - Big Safety Issue. 10/31/16 - Catalytic Converter light came on, transmission locks up.
1/13/17 - Battery went out at just a little over 2 years. 2/7/17 - Airbag cable was loose, Front Parking sensors went out, trailer brake sensor went out. 6/17 - Airbag sensor came loose again. 11/17 - Another airbag sensor went out; A/C condenser went out. 12/17 - Air Bag control module went out. These are most of the issues; the transmission locks up all the time and the dealer says that it works as it is designed. So as you can see, I've spent a lot of time at the dealer. I didn't want to lemon my vehicle but at this point I have no other choice. It's unfortunate because it is a beautiful truck but at this point it's too costly to keep up with and GM has no interest in improving their brand. Our bailout money did not go to good use with this company.
Currently I'm in the process of looking for a good lemon law lawyer and hopefully they can seek some sort of justice for me. Consumerism should be at the forefront of a manufacturer's priorities instead of profits but unfortunately that's the world we live in. Perhaps there should be a class action lawsuit for the crap GM is selling. People should really look the other way with GM. Proceed at your own risk because apparently nothing has changed since I purchased my truck.

From day one the transmission bangs/slams noise just rolling slow out of driveway or in parking lots. Truck only has 1300 miles on it and the dealer has been notified each time and was brought in twice and they say the same thing, "That's the way it is" and there is nothing they can do until GM Corporation says there is a recall. They need more people to complain soon before everyone's warranty runs out. My GMC Sierra only has 1300 miles on it now after coming home from the dealership service dept. Again today 12/28/2017. The vehicle was purchased October 4th, 2017 and today's date is Oct. 28, 2017. This dealership seems to be very nice but the GM Corp. Must tell them what to say.
Updated on 02/03/2018: It's me again, yes the the brand new GMC 1500 Sierra 1500 Crew Cab with only 1900 miles on it is still banging slams into gear just rolling out of our driveway and going down the road, not all the time but a very lot. Contacted the Danny-len GMC dealer where I purchased it, and they said again that was they way GMC made it and it's ok, something to do with the computer in the 8 speed automatic transmission. Now it is getting worse, Danny-len sales person told me that the head of service will call me Monday. They continue to say that GMC sent them a print out saying that's normal... any good attorney's wanting to go after GMC for this problem... where do I turn...
Calling GMC corporate Monday to see. My advise is to never buy another GMC vehicle and to look into GMC dealers before you purchase, they will all sound great till the sale has been made, and especially if you pay in cash. It's a shame the truck is beautiful and peanuts for miles on it. This has been happening since day 1. Help, help.

I leased a 2016 GMC Sierra and was told that they were nice trucks. We have 18,500 miles on it and it is a pile of junk. When it shifts from V4 to V8 it shutters and then clunks. It also chirps when it changes from V8 to V4. We have taken it into the dealership and they told us it needed a muffler clamp and then replaced that. So we continue to drive it because it is a leased vehicle but it keeps doing it and is very annoying. In reading all of the complaints everyone's response is the same as ours... They can't fix it because that is normal. How can clunking be normal? However I am stuck with this horrible truck for 2 more years and I am not sure that I will ever buy another GM product since they can't help me with this one.

2017 GMC 3500HD Denali (new) 300 miles: Purchased this top of the line 65,000 dollar truck last Friday night 7/18/17 from a dealership about 2 hours away from my home in Branson Mo. Drove the truck home, shut it off and the next morning would not run. So it sat in the driveway until Monday morning which I had to have it towed to a local dealership and they looked it over and tell me they need to order this part which seems to be the turbo assembly. Was told they will ship it in overnight. Ok this will not be too bad. Well it's now Friday 5 days later and to this date they cannot tell me when this part will come in. NO timeline at all, they just do not know???
So now I'm stuck with a brand new truck that I have not even put 100 miles on it and was able to drive it one time, I had to work with my purchasing dealership to get a loaner truck or I was out of business myself, lucky Roper GMC has stood up and has gotten me a loaner truck that I can tow with or I would be out of business, see the repair dealership will give me a truck but I cannot tow with it. Not very helpful... called customer care at GMC. Should have not done that… after speaking with this gentleman about the issues with this truck, he tells me a Senior Rep will be in touch with me in 1 to 2 business days... then this happened, could not believe he just asked me this… “Sir so what can we do to resolve this issue for you...” My answer REALLY? Still as of today no information. My brand new truck as sits in a dealership parking lot and with me wondering what have I bought.

I had a 2015 Dodge Ram and loved it but local dealer wouldn't work with me so I went to Varney GMC in Bangor and next thing I know I'm leasing a 2017 GMC Sierra 4 Elevation more than I wanted to and longer than I would have liked. Anyway less than a month after lease I noticed the truck pulling to the left and having a little shake so I went to dealer and they put in the alignment machine and said nothing was wrong.
Also with just about 6000 miles I got a flat in the right front tire not covered. By the way plus when I went to get the spare the truck has 20 inch wheels and a 17 inch spare which with 4 wheel drive you can't run a smaller tire or it could ruin the truck (I live two miles in the woods on a dirt road) it cost me 80 plus dollars for a used spare then they told me it wouldn't hurt the truck to drive it with a smaller tire, a belief that to be untrue especially if you need 4 wheel drive like I often do. Anyway the ride stinks. Wish I could go back to my dodge. Not happy gmc leaser.

I bought a brand new 2017 GMC Sierra 2500hd 5 months ago. From the first month, I had a rattle and shaking feel at under 40mph. Then at 6,000 miles, the transfer case and rear differential went bad. I took it to the Simi Valley GMC dealer for repair. They drive it and said they can't replicate the issue and didn't fix anything. Then at 6,900 miles it got so bad and when I took it, they realized all the issues and started the process with GMC warranty.
After 2 weeks of not having my truck, they said GMC will rebuild all the issues versus replacing everything, which Jeff from their service department was shocked as well. Then they took 2 more weeks to fix the truck so my truck was in for 4 weeks. I can't believe 6,000 miles that I had this many issues on this truck and the warranty didn't replace all the issues. Keep in mind I paid $70,000 thinking this is the best truck over all the other competitors.
I am so disappointed as my first 2005 Chevy never had any issues and now GMC and Chevy reliability and their service has drastically changed. Save yourself the time, money, and headaches and buy another manufacturer that will truly care about their customers. I wish I would have done more in depth research before buying a GMC as I see so many unhappy clients just like me.

I recently purchased a 2017 GMC Sierra in March. Within a week of the purchase the vehicle produced a vibration at all speeds above 40 mph. The truck was in the shop for over 20 days of the two months that I have owned it with three different dealerships confirming it has an issue. GM dispatched one of their field engineers and I was told my truck was "operating as designed". I told them it was a safety issue as it makes me physically ill while driving. The rep ignored this and basically the only thing I was told to do was go through the lemon law process.
Absolutely poor quality of a vehicle and customer service. Anyone looking to purchase a 2017 GMC Sierra or Chevrolet Silverado I suggest you look up Chevy shakes. You will see that GM trucks have had this problem since 2014 and they have done nothing to correct the issue. I would recommend people purchase anything but a GM truck unless they want to be nauseous anytime they drive over 40 mph.

I bought a new 2016 GMC Sierra SLT last year, I wanted a nicer truck that was completely loaded and better color, after trading in my 2013 Sierra SLE Kodiak, which had no issues BTW. I've always been a GM guy. I have had numerous GM vehicles. The first day I took this truck home I found it shaking/vibrating bad. Was at the dealership countless times, and countless repairs. I don't know how many tires/rims had finally been replaced. But it still shakes. Called GM support and all they said is "the dealership had tried their best". And for me to deal with the problem. Wow, what great service. The truck only cost me $70+ and I bought the top extended warranty for peace of mind... Haha on me...
Well it doesn't end there. After being there with the transmission slamming, and shuttering the truck. Nothing was fixed and I was told it's a communication issue with the transmission. Keep reading... In the middle of all this I'm dealing with a check engine light that comes on intermittently, and an intermittent no start. Was at the dealership countless times for this ESL issues. All modules/computers have been replaced. Yes I said ALL of them. Engine harness has been replaced and TCM the last visit. Got the truck back after I don't know how many weeks at this point. I put nearly 10000 kms on rental vehicles, during all of this. Then the radiator went. Then the exhaust had to be replaced due to a stuck butterfly valve. Now needs to be replaced again, as it is squealing again.
Numerous recalls were performed on the truck. Side steps had to get replaced due to chrome falling off in big chunks. The check engine light came on again yesterday. The module for the "wireless charger that doesn't work" was replaced. And it stopped working 2 days after it was replaced. And I know I'm missing some things. As it was at the dealership 30+ times in 9 months of ownership. I just gave up. SO I called GM support half a dozen times or more now.
I went in and tried to find a new vehicle and take a loss, because I need a reliable vehicle. GM barely made an attempt to help me. But I'm stuck with buying another GM unless I want to take an enormous loss, more than I am already. This has been the worst vehicle and most expensive vehicle I have ever owned. What a POS. I warn anyone who wants the new style GM truck. I should have done my homework. The "Chevy shake" is topping all forums and nothing is getting done about it, I feel bad for whoever buys my truck. GMC SIERRA 3500 DURAMAX DIESEL LML. Ever since I bought this vehicle it had minor detail problems that came up more than it should. I always had each problem taken care of quickly. I've owned General Motor vehicles all my life which mostly were trucks. I had this truck breakdown near Buffalo and was towed to Mike Smith Chevrolet where the technician looked at it and said yes the motor is bad and didn't even hook it up to a scan tool. It blew my rear main seal out and was leaking oil. I was charged 200.00 there for five minutes of the man's time to guess exactly what happened and then didn't even offer to fix it but told me to tow it back to GA! That's an expensive tow bill. And then the company pressured me into buying a new Denali so I could haul my broken truck back to GA.
So after I get it back to GA, I call several GMC dealerships to price a long block. Each one priced out around 12,500.00... plus an additional 3,500.00 for labor which was taking the old out and putting the new in. That doesn't count if you need new gaskets for anything or oil or any fluids. You're roughly looking around $20,000.00 to have an engine replaced which is almost as expensive as a nice used truck. I emailed ME Real Motors and I had a response from Michael which is car for them and said that's ownership responsibility. I take an extreme measure to maintain my truck's maintenance and to keep it up. But for a 20,000.00 engine job is outrageous and for them to say it's owner responsibility is just a jerk. I use my truck to make a paycheck. This is my livelihood.
And for a response of, "Oh well sorry, boutcha luck" pretty much is what I got. I'm very disheartened about my experience from being broke down at GMC to being emailed by GMC. It's hard for me to say this but I'll not own another GMC. And I for my truck, well I guess it'll be in the graveyard because I don't know of anyone who has 20 grand sitting around to just dump into a new motor. My friend is letting me use his Dodge Cummins for work which had outlasted my GMC by numerous miles. Seems like Dodge has the official truck instead of GMC and also there hasn't been any major expenses with the Dodge Cummins.
Instead of me looking for another GMC I guess I'll pay what's left on my broken down Duramax and make a yard ornament out of it!!! Way to go GMC for being a sorry company that I supported for too long. That's how the rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer from people who take and take and want never help anyone who is in need especially after supporting them for 25 yrs. I'll not be burnt again General Motors!

I still have 5000 miles remaining on the extended warranty. So far I have not had any mechanical problems; only cosmetic. I have had to replace a door handle and a windshield wiper cover. Now I have a crack in the dashboard right by the airbag compartment. I contacted two dealerships and was told that to repair or replace this is not covered under the extended warranty, and was advised to call GMC directly to see about assistance in paying for this.
I reached a GMC representative who was obviously foreign. He issued me this # **. He was rude, patronizing, and condescending. He said I would need to take the truck in to the dealership to get a visual inspection, which makes sense. Then he felt the need to add that they could not be expected to agree to fix it over the phone if they didn't have an inspection, because they could lose money, right? Duh. So then he attempted to do a 3 way call to my dealership to make an appointment for me to take it in. I got disconnected. When I called the dealership see if they had spoken, the service rep who made the appointment said the guy had been rude to her as well.
The service rep who took my truck in knew where the crack was before he even looked at it. Cracks in the dash are a recurring problem with these expensive vehicles. After the visual inspection was complete, I was told that the GMC wanted me to pay $400, and they would pitch in $300. I am not paying that for sure. It's useless to contact GMC for help. I'm giving 2 stars only because I haven't had any of the mechanical or rust problems I have read about... yet. Next truck will be a Dodge Ram.

The new dealer has tried to help me. Here's a partial list of what's been done so far: The torque converter has been replaced. The rods in the transmission have been polished. Plugs have been replaced, fuel has been tested and most recently the transmission was replaced. I've driven several new GMC loaner trucks and they do not drive like mine. My last 2 GMC Sierra SLT's also had active fuel management and did not run like this. I've been offered trade assist dollars, but what is being offered will just about cover the loss in value due to mechanical issues. Yup, the dealer has reduced the trucks trade in value for a GM issue - nothing I caused. I will lose $15,000 if I trade for another like GM. I am left to shoulder the depreciation and price increase.
GM customer service has been horrible. You can never reach them. I have called my agent at least 60 times only to get voice mail. Even after I was given specific times to call. I am so disappointed in GM. Over the years I have owned many GM vehicles and praised their product and service to my friends and colleagues - even during their financial difficulties. What has happened to GM? GM - step up and do the right thing. Fix my truck or replace it. Do not expect me to take on financial burden for a defective product that you made and sold to me!

Bought a 2015 Sierra. Almost immediately after purchase exhaust started making sounds on acceleration. Multiple times in shop and 3 exhausts later it may finally be fixed. I have hardly had my truck on bumpy roads. Dash rattles... driver's side window is loose, that's being fixed this week. My z71 suspension is very rough. Bumps feel like the box of my truck is going to come right off. Recently my steering column started making rubbing sounds. I'm so thankful I spent $60 000 on a truck that's unreliable and proving to be more of a hindrance than pleasurable. GMC will not buy my truck back. I'm left with the option to trade in and lose $20000 or keep the piece of crap. The dealership returns my vehicle with the gas tank on empty and not once have I been offered a courtesy car. This has been by far the worst purchase I have ever made.

I am a 2004 GMC 1500 truck owner. My truck has anti-lock brakes. I am fully aware of the recent disallowance of recall for 2004 GM truck era rusty brake line issues. The anti-lock modulator effectively negates dual action breaking because of its less expensive design. The brakes effectively become a single action braking system and ANY broken brake line results in a complete loss of ALL braking ability. This is a violation of consumer safety protection law. I know that this loss of ALL braking ability happens because it happened to me!

I purchased a new 2013 GMC Sierra 4x4 new from a Bedford Hts, OH GMC dealership. At just under $50,000. I have the Vortec, 6 liter and the truck is a 4 door with a long bed. I run a construction company and needed a reliable truck. Thinking GM has made some significant strides forward and being fond of GM, I bought this truck. I was a little disappointed with the fuel economy of 11.2 miles per gallon. At 36,500 miles the windshield wiper arm assembly froze up. I replaced that myself after discovering there was no warranty. I replaced oil and filter with synthetic on the recommended basis in accordance with the computer display. I also do almost all of my own maintenance as it is required.
At about 40,000 miles the interior door plastic started to shed parts, specifically behind the interior pull handIe used to pull the door shut from the interior. I have lived with the missing plastic for quite some time now. I now have 65,000 miles on the truck. Last night, I couldn't get out of the driver's side door, even when I opened the window and reached out for the exterior handle. Neither worked. Today, I removed the interior door handle and ordered the new one. I have been reading up on the door handle and it is a very common problem with this model. It is all plastic and the handle is mounted with plastic rivets and melted heads to secure it to the subframe brackets on the door. While it was apart, I looked into the pull handle. I peeled back the door pull handle and plastic pieces fell out. No wonder the door pull was deflecting every time I pulled the door shut from the interior.
I looked around the shop and found some 1" x 1" aluminum angle and I cut a piece about 10" long and slid it underneath the vinyl overlay wrapping the interior door pull. I also cut & bent two pieces of 16 ga. steel into a channel that had an o.d. of 3 1/8" with two (gauge line) legs of 3/4". The channel width was 5/8". I stitch screwed the angle with # 8 stitch screws thru the angle & legs of formed channel. The other end went thru the interior door bracket (had to remove one existing screw to flinch channel to angle). I'm going to wrap the mess with some black electrical tape until I can get some black vinyl to cover the pull. I'm going to find some black vinyl or leather with some PSA backed Velcro to cover the door pull. It's just shameful, that some of the little details get overlooked.
Before I buy the next GMC, I'm gonna check out with some weight the door pulls to see if GM got it right this time. Also, I'm gonna see if they are getting any better on the MPG ratings on these 2500 series trucks. Did anyone think about 7 or 8 speed transmissions like the German have in the Mercedes line-ups? How about some two speed rear ends (including the 4 wheel drive units too). The other problems were some head light replacements replaced twice, now. Changing bulbs is not as simple as days gone by. You had to unbolt air boxes, hose etc. to get them out. I will be a little more conscious on my next purchase. Although I like to buy American, there comes a time when maintenance cost & fuel economy is becoming a bigger factor and from reading some of these forums, GM is not too consumer conscious. I buy something new, so I do not have to spend my leisure time fixing a poorly designed engineering flaw.
Let's do a little more testing and listen to the consumers "automaker's" or you won't be getting the repeat buyers that keep you employed and pay your retirements, 401's and aged cost of your retirees. At 57 years old, I'm getting tired of spending my hard earned dollars on truck maintenance & parts for something that is only three years old. Also, it is tough for a 57-year-old, 285# guy climbing over the center console so he can exit through the passenger door. Thank GOD I didn't have an accident and need to exit quickly.

I purchased a certified used 2014 GMC Sierra All Terrain 4x4 with 17,000 miles on it. It has been an absolute nightmare. I have taken it to the dealer numerous times for vibration issues, rust issues, transmission issues, broken seat (and I'm not that big), leaking radiator, engine noise, shock issues, electrical issues...and probably more that I have forgotten.
The biggest issue is the overall driveability. It clunks and jerks into gear, and often won't disengage 4x4. It gets TERRIBLE fuel economy, way below the advertised amount. I average 14-15 MPG routinely on the highway at a 65-70 MPH pace. It shakes terribly, and idles rough...and the entire frame has rusted on the truck. I had the frame stripped and repainted under warranty, and it's rusting again, worse than before and it's only been 6 months since the work was performed. The drive shaft has been replaced twice, tires 3 times, wheels once, rear differential once...unbelievable. Now it turns out it won't even tow as much as advertised...by a considerable amount, thanks to GM "misstating" the towing capacity.
I can't even begin to say how disappointed I am with this truck, but what has been more disappointing is the abysmal customer service I've gotten from General Motors. I asked for a warranty extension because I obviously have a lemon--denied. I asked for a buy back--denied. I keep getting stock answers from GM, and everything refers back to the dealer...but the dealer refers everything back to GM. Unreal.
I know all manufacturers have lemons from time to time, but the superior companies take care of their clients. GM could care less and it has cost them a customer. I have been a lifelong GM buyer, but never again unless GM fixes my situation. I will also make sure that I spread the word to anyone who will listen about how terrible GM has been in dealing with me. It's a shame that such a once great company has turned into this poorly managed fiasco.

In December 2015 we purchased a new 2015 GMC Sierra SLT 4x4. In a matter of weeks, we started smelling a terrible odor like a dead animal. When we took it to the dealership, they said it was leaves and cleaned the leaves and filter. However, that did not resolve the odor. We took it back and was told that there was a water leak around the brake light over the cab. They replaced the carpet and insulation and sprayed. It was a very strong deodorizer. The dead animal smell was removed but there was still a very strong odor.
My wife and I both have a lot of health issues and we were very concerned about the mold spores that would have spread to the HVAC system. When we turned on the heat, a white mist was sprayed throughout the cab of the truck. By the time we drove the truck 30 minutes to the dealership, both of us were experiencing headache, burning eyes, difficulty breathing, etc. While at the dealership we learned that they were aware that the odor had spread throughout the system. I am 60 years old this week. My 2015 GMC SLT Z60 is my 50th personally owned vehicle - of the 50 vehicles, 27 were GM's. Summary first - I have hired a lemon law attorney and I will NOT be fooled by dealer BS such as "that is normal, acceptable, and inherent with all trucks like yours". PLEASE - save it for the cerebrally challenged - won't work with me, or my LEMON LAW attorney.
I first thought my problems were caused by the Active Fuel Management system, but realized later it was a combination of the transmission and the AFM system that's causing throttle response delays, rough shifting (up and down) clunking and an occasional launch hesitation that makes me think Mr. AFM and transmission are on lunch break...
I love the look of the truck and the engine performs great, but between the issues caused by the AFM system and the transmission I am over it. Let's take a minute to talk about brand loyalty, beyond the 27 GM's I've owned. When GM decided to dissolve their common shares of stock, to save the company I lost 12,500 shares of GM stock - well, I really did not lose the shares, the day after the bankruptcy announcement, they were worth .37 cent each. My point - I STILL BOUGHT MORE GM'S - 2007 Corvette Convertible, 2011 & 2013 Corvette Grand Sport Convertibles, and now this 2015 GMC Sierra SLT Z-60.
Another piece of advice, after I heard all I could stand from my GMC dealer, on the subject of "it's normal and inherent with your vehicle" I bought an aftermarket program (tuner) in an attempt to shut off the AFM system, but it did not fix my transmission problems - and when I went in for my final service session with an area GM rep to get to the bottom of the issue, just in front of LEMON LAW claim being filed, they called to say, "come get your truck, your warranty is VOID, there is nothing we can do." No explanation - just come get your truck!! To that all I can say is - see you in court GM... And I will not only NEVER buy another GM but I will make sure I thwart every prospect from buying one, and trust me I will stop many more GM purchases than the minuscule cost GM could have spent to just fixed my truck.

I have been greatly impressed with the comfort and reliability of my 2011 GMC SIERRA. I purchased my 2011 GMC Sierra 1500 crew cab in November of 2012 with just over 20k miles on it. Since it was a certified used vehicle I received about 3 free oil changes as part of the package. Also the dealer gave me a free oil change for buying it. Altogether I didn't pay for an oil change for the first 2.5 yrs I owned the vehicle. Since I have had no repairs and free oil changes I literally drove the vehicle with no cost of maintenance for the first 2.5 yrs I owned it, and it was used!! Talk about impressive. I currently have just over 50k miles and still have the factory tires. They are close to needing replacement due to tread depth but have only had 2 low tires, which I was alerted to prior to further damage with the tire monitoring system, and they were both from nails I picked up somewhere.
I traded in a 2003 GMC Sierra for my 2011 GMC Sierra simply to get a crew cab instead of extended cab. I had almost no problems with my 2003 GMC so I am glad to see GMC has kept up the good work!! The only thing I can complain at all about is that my crew cab pickup is not as quiet on the interstate than a Ford of the same year. I inquired about this to the dealer and they informed me that GM had to put a vent in the back of the cab to equalize pressure and that has led to more road noise. This has been change in the newer models, along with many other improvements to make them far superior to fords.
I will take a little road noise for the outstanding reliability I have been afforded with my GMC products! Ford can't come close to these wonderful pickups!!! I can hardly wait to upgrade to the newer models when the time comes! I wish I could keep every one of these pickups I have owned and just take turns enjoying each of them. 7 years on my first pickup and only had one minor repair for a couple hundred bucks. Going on the 4th year on this new pickup and not a single problem!! Thank you GMC.

Then the engine and transmission issues started. Codes, tows, recalls and bad service. The dash cracked after two years and we were told it was no longer covered.
Today it sits in the shop with a $500 bill for two batteries two months after being towed in for a transmission issue which was partially found to be causing electrical issues which is documented in the repair receipt. We feel the dead batteries were caused by the electrical issues. We now have a recall in our hands for a possible diesel leak that will only be covered for about three more months but we've been asked not to take it in unless we have the issue. How am I supposed to guess whether this is an issue or not? We are going to demand that they check for it and then we are selling the truck to Carmax to buy something else. Six month later (June 2014) had radiator replaced. By January this year I noticed antifreeze smell again and finally was able to get it to the shop and guess what radiator is leaking in the same spot. The dealership sells a ton of GM trucks and they were honest about the radiator problems they have had and that all the ones with problems leak in the same spot.
I drive a lot and truck has 85k on it now and GM will not cover it even though it's an obvious flaw with the radiators they installed at the beginning of 2014 run. I called GM and complained, told then that I knew about the issues with the radiators, and she told me other trucks were not my concern (even though it shows a pattern).
Needles to say they never called me back, but they did call the dealership and said they were not covering it (I had no idea I needed a new $1000 radiator every year. I guess they are considered scheduled maintenance now). You would think for 40k you could at least get a call back, but I guess not. Now it has noise from tranny when shifting, like a belt slipping, and they charged me 100 bucks to drive it and say they can't get it to reproduce. This GM guy is about done with them and we have to buy a truck every 2-3 years... But as of today no emails have been returned, no call backs...

I purchased my GMC Sierra new with 13 miles on it. I had issues from the first week with the vehicle hesitating during acceleration and the transmission not shifting smoothly in stop and go traffic. I returned it to the dealer within the first few weeks of ownership and explained the issues. They told me the issues were part of the break-in process. After 3000 miles, I returned the vehicle to the dealer with the same complaints, figuring the break-in process was complete. This time, I was told this is the way all 2015 GMC trucks with the same engine and transmission package drive. I'm not really happy with its performance and feel it's most likely a computer program issue that could easily be fixed. Has anyone else experienced similar issues? I look forward to getting some feedback regarding this. Thank you.

The truck has been back to three different GM service dealerships in two different states, 14 different times and GM cannot figure out what is wrong with it. My new buying experience has been a complete disaster and an enormous waste of time and energy.
I've started the lemon law process on the truck, and to no surprise, GM wants to act in bad-faith and drag their feet at every step of the way instead of acknowledging the defect and remedying it without causing me more aggravation. I've spoken with several notable Lemon Law attorneys in various states and they all report that GM is aware of this vibration issue in these trucks and it is a known issue. All I want is to give it back and get a car instead, and I'd prefer to stay a GM customer, but it's been made very clear to me that GM does not want my business. I've never been so disappointed in a company as I am now with GM. My advice to anyone: steer clear of ANY GM products.

Purchased 2014 GMC Sierra Denali in May 2014. Purchased vehicle in Texas and I live in New Mexico. Got back home and thoroughly examined the vehicle the next day only to realize the entire vehicle had been repainted and some new parts were on it. The front bumper sections do not line up from one side to the other, there is severe overspray in all door jambs, flat and glossy areas under hood (all GM vehicles have a underhood finish that is all flat), there was buffer burnthrough on the fender, well I could go on and on about the problems. The vehicle now has 7800 miles and the transmission is slipping and the front end has a terrible 'squeak' when I go over a bump. The dealership was of no help at all. The Sales Manager's remark was-'GM made the vehicle, let them fix it'. In other words, my hands were tied with the dealership.
Contacted GM. My first case was with a representative named **. After a few conversations, ** closed the case because I was so 'Angry'. Yes, damn straight, I was angry since I continued to hit brick walls after spending $55,000 on, what I thought, was a brand new vehicle. The second case was with another GM representative named **. Although ** was much kinder than **, we waited over 11 months to get a resolution to our case. I took the vehicle to Texas for a 'GM Engineer' to examine it (I was notified I could NOT be present). Help me to understand, I can't be present at an examination of a vehicle that I own, not the 'engineer'. Needless to say, after having my truck for a week, GM will repaint the fender! What a joke!
I feel like the truck had been in a major accident for them to have to do a complete paint job and I feel as though the front frame is bent since nothing lines up on the front end. I have been in the Automotive Paint & Supply business for well over 40 years. I have explained this to GM and to the Dealership - They do not care. I have been trained all of my life to spot imperfections exactly like these on my truck. The service department manager said that 'Mr. Engineer' had a expensive tool to measure the paint thickness. This tool is a mil gauge. Surprise, I have one of those too and measured the mils while the service manager was on the phone. As I said before, some parts had been replaced so the measurements were comparable to factory. The parts that were factory parts were well over the appropriate, or recommended standards for the factory.
I will retain an attorney on this issue and GM WILL be forced to pay. This all started with the vehicle having 24 miles, now we are at 7800 miles. Just the stress alone is almost more than I can handle on a good day. Yes, perhaps my anger will reveal itself again but who wouldn't be angry with this much money at stake and getting to the point where I am afraid to even drive it with the unknown and undocumented damage.
Updated on 04/27/2015: After my first post on here, I was contacted by a gentleman at GM. He contacted me through email and not the telephone so we could get these issues resolved. When I took my vehicle to the dealership to have it "examined" by the GM Engineer, I asked the girl in the service department, while it was there, I needed the recalls addressed. I stood there and watched her write it down. You guessed it. No recall issues were ever taken care of. The vehicle was at the dealership for 5 days.
Anyway, the gentleman who contacted me after my first post informed me that the case had been closed. He also stated that 'Mr. GM Engineer' did not even work for GM but was merely the district sales manager from the dealership. Yep, I am quite sure he has no biased opinions, nor is he any sort of specialist in the Automotive Paint area. Needless to say, I have been lied to yet, once again. The purchasing dealership, Benny Boyd aka Truck Town in Lamesa, Texas are by far the most unethical men I have ever dealt with. They will make up all sorts of excuses to NOT even give me the benefit of the doubt. Then there is GM. They just don't care about the average consumer. If they wanted a return customer, they should have sent someone that specializes in paint and body repair to 'examine' this truck. I will not ever purchase another GM product unless they decide to make this right. Had I wanted a vehicle that had been wrecked, I would have purchased a used one.
I purchased a 2014 GMC Denali for approximately $55,000. I thought this ordeal could be resolved within a few weeks. However, next month, it will be a full year. Emotionally, I am getting spent. GM knows they are the huge giant corporation and we ate their bait. Well, they did put a line in the water this time. I bit...hook, line and sinker. My truck is devalued with these defects in the paint and overspray. I could easily loose $20,000 on it. Whoever this guy was, he had to have been blind, dumb and deaf. I have threatened GM with an attorney. Now I must go through with it. I can no longer fight the fight with them by myself. Not only do I want another vehicle, equipped exactly like mine, I do fully expect to be compensated for the countless hours I have spent on the phone or sitting returning emails to these people. NO MORE!! GM expect some correspondence from my attorney. I know people threatened this many times in the past. You will not continue to bully me around.

Just BEWARE OF GMC, in totality. I have had three dealerships work on my vehicle, UNSUCCESSFULLY. I bought a new 2013 GMC Sierra, 4x4. It has had transmission problems since the first week I purchased it. The first dealership in California, Temecula Buick GMC told me not to worry because I have this great warranty that will cover me. After three visits to service in California, and a trip across country, I took the GMC LEMON to Alexander Chevrolet. They fixed a few items, but the truck still down shifts with a clunk. Three more trips to the service department at a third dealership, back in California, Paradise GMC still said they could not fix the vehicle.
Actually, they say it is fine. It is NOT fine. It drives like an old 1970 Pinto wagon I had when I was 16. Only this truck comes with a whopping $45,000 price tag when it drives poorly. I have contacted GMC corporate for over two months at 866-790-5700 ext. ** where someone named "kim" (will not give her last name, which is usually a bad sign) who promised GMC would help. Last call today was when she said my truck does not fall into the areas of where they will assist. Assist? Didn't they make the truck, sell me the truck, and offer me the warranty?
BEWARE of GMC, BEWARE of SIERRA TRUCKS, and if you do buy, know that your warranty means absolutely nothing! One other small problem the truck has is that is will not always accept gas. Not a major complaint, compared to the transmission, but it is frustrating. I was told by the dealership that I should hold the gas pump upside down and hold the filter tube back while I fill my $75 tank of gas. Um... no! The corporate "kim" told me this was only a problem in California with our special emissions nozzles. NOPE, had the same problem in TN for four months. Thanks for absolutely nothing!

Last week I was driving along with my three kids and came to a red light, hit the brakes and the pedal hit the floor making an awful groaning noise. Brake's completely gone. No warning. Completely unacceptable. Brakes lines totally rusted out. Nearly slammed into the car in front of me. Which would have been my fault according to insurance. Not gmc and their complete lack of responsibility to recall their piece of ** "craftsmanship" fixed the brakes... Today, I put it into gear, after letting it warm up, and it hesitated like I was simultaneously stepping on the brakes. Every time I hit a bump the truck slows down. Feels like I'm hitting something big with the rear wheels of the truck, but nothing there.
3 months ago I had to replace the differential cover which had rusted off. Both interior door handles have snapped and need replacing. One day after the driver side door handle snapped, I was getting out of this piece of junk and the person parked next to me was getting out of his gmc van and we both rolled our Windows down to open from the outside, and started laughing at each other. Clearly a common issue. I continue to tell everyone I meet to steer clear of any gmc/Chevy, you couldn't pay me to take another one on. Safety issues galore, and a company who doesn't back their product or care about their customers. Best part is I work at a dealership, when someone comes in interested in a gmc or Chevy I quickly warn them against it, and they listen. What sales person risks losing a sale? One who cares more about people than money. Congratulations on making the worst vehicles on the planet, gmc.

This happened one time so far but once was enough for me.
My yorkie and rat terrier get so excited to go bye bye that they bounce around the seats and stare out vehicle's windows at me waiting for me to climb in and join them. This one day I was not feeling my wallet, purse, phone and car & house keys were inside on the seat of my GMC Sierria and my dogs lock the truck doors when I walk away from them, not thinking to at least take my truck keys with me. But, there was a 2009 Leftover on a GM lot that I went to look at. It was the right price, and had the 4.8 ltr V8. Which I figured would be compatible to the V6 in the Tacoma. I have owned GM products in the past, a 79 Monte Carlo, which might go down as the best car I had ever bought, to a 00 Cadillac which might be the worst car I have ever owned. But I figured, it is an old design, RWD, Frame, v8 and automatic. How hard could that be to screw up. Lesson learned… The truck started immediately showing why GM went bankrupt.
Transfer-case exploded at 15K miles. Head gasket needed to be replaced at 17k miles. Burned oil from day one. Under heavy acceleration it would whistle, like it had a vacuum leak. It overheated at 20K miles sitting in traffic in the summer. The dashboard cluster rattled loose and fell out of the dash at 21K miles. At 23k Miles while 4wd was engaged, the engine would stall due to a faulty electronic controller. Power window motors at 25K miles. I traded it in at 28K miles and lost nearly 10K of its value. I for one will stick with my imports. While I might get flack for it here, I have to be honest, I still have yet to see any American car go 400K miles without ANY repair other than what is general maintenance.

I have a 2001 GMC 2500HD diesel pickup. I bought the truck used and the previous owner, who bought the truck new, was meticulous in keeping up with the proper service. And, I might add, I have done the same. The truck had probably 80,000 miles on it and I now have approximately 186,000 on it. May 29, 2014, my wife and I were preparing to pull our travel trailer to Ohio to visit our daughter and grandchildren. I still had two thousand miles to go before the next service was due. I started to wait until we got back but, fortunately, I decided to do an early service.
During this service they discovered that I had a hole in my transfer case and was losing fluid. With the services of a very cooperative mechanic I was able to get the transfer case replaced at a rather low cost, comparatively, within less than 24 hours. I must tell you that I love my truck and intend to drive it another 186,000 miles if I can. I like GMC trucks. I have a 1989 GMC truck with over 100,000 miles on it. My boys learned to drive on it and when I bought it, the warranty was still in effect.
Why am I angry? Internet research, statements of the professionals at the business that does my service and the statements of my mechanic shows me that the transfer case design on 2001-2007 GMC trucks was flawed and GM knew about it. I see advertisements periodically advising of recall problems with motor vehicles. I watch for things like this. To me, General Motors owes me the $883.00 I spent to get my truck fixed. I know they won't reimburse me because if they stood good for all of their mistakes, their Board of Directors and their CEO might not get their precious bonuses! What am I going to do? For the time being I'll just stew. But one of these days, if the Lord allows me to live long enough, I am going to get a new truck. It will be big, a 4X4, a diesel, loaded to the hilt, and it will look good. The question is, will it be a GMC or will it be a Ford?

I also noticed the same happening along the top rail on one side also on the truck bed. At about this same time, I had to take the truck to a vehicle repair location due to not being able to get my trailer towing electrical connector to work properly. I was going to replace the in bumper connector myself and had bought the part. To remove and re-install the part, I was going to have to lower and move my spare tire out of the way. It would not budge.
At the vehicle repair facility (maintenance manager a former GMC service manager), they found that extreme rust had not only frozen the tire in place but ALL my wiring harness, front to back of the truck would have to be replaced due to water infiltration into the harness due to inferior material and proper sealing. The service manager also pointed out that most probably the rust and corrosion I was seeing in my paint was due to GM not seal welding metal joints where sections of the truck bed met to prevent water seepage.
I have since verified that no weld seam exists on ANY of these locations. I have also had to have a front ball joint replaced on the truck since owing it and found out the previous owner replaced the other one. Knowing what was causing the problem, I visited a GM dealership in Lagrange Kentucky and within a two week period was told that their regional manager had talked to their collision center manager and nothing could or would be done as I was not the original owner. When you can prove that original workmanship or lack thereof can be pointed to as a culprit for a problem, and get the brush off that is WRONG!

Most of what was in complaint above has happened to us, we have had to our truck...Had to replace the back axle gears twice now, both front bearing caps failed this year. The door handles are JUNK, had to replace them at least 2x's each because of the plastic..Brake lines burst for no reason. The front right light that is supposed to stay on burns out constantly so I don't bother with it anymore. The 4wheel drive buttons don't work anymore, got solution for that (make holes in buttons and hit manually with small screwdriver).
The 4wheel drive light comes on all the time ever since it was NEW. We are 2nd owners from husband's mom. Truck was bought in NC...Now haven't had passenger door open for last 3 months not because of the handles but because of the lock mechanism that is IN THE ** DOOR... Have been beating on this for 2 days now trying to open door so I can replace.... Want to know why everything is plastic and not put together with metal anymore. My brake line finally burst and brake fluid sprayed all over customer's drive and under my hood. Had to drive home without brakes. While I was having brake line fixed I found out GM does not even have my brake lines in stock anymore for 2006 Sierra so I had to have this brake line custom made which costs more money and the line does not fit right so I have to use tape to keep it from moving around!!! I notice the real axle brake line had no rust on it at all, explain that GMC! Now I have 103,000 mile and my bearing are bad again and waiting on other rusting brake lines to burst!!!! After reading numerous GM complaints and spending over 2 weeks with GM customer care case number ** and filing a complaint with NHTSA ODI # **, I have given up! I own a 2005 GMC Sierra and I am the only owner! So called Mr. ** is the only person to work on my vehicle. The truck has 43500 miles when without warning of any ABS light or prior brake issue, I was driving to pick up my kids traveling 45 mph when the brakes went out, I had to apply the ebrake and luckily came to a stop and returned home without incident.
Come to find out GMC states it is corrosion/rust. I work in the auto industry and many of my family members are retired GM plant and admin workers and devoted GM loyalists. I thought for sure GM would stand behind a safety related product, but after speaking with GM customer I don't care representatives Lysette, Maria, Kristen, Derek, & Aubrey last names and emails unknown as they will not provide, they say GM is doing nothing. Strange that I don't live in the NE and don't drive the vehicle everyday! However, again GM's position is that it is not a safety issue and the single brake line corroded/rusted out is not a inferior product/brake line and simply rusted due to the elements, funny nobody at GM wants to view my photos of the one rusted line and the others that are not!
GM customer service is lip service and they do not care nor will they or anyone else that works with GM admit or accept the fact the brake lines that GM put on my truck and countless others are inferior! So, I will pay my local GM dealer the customary GM go screw yourself charge for MR ** handy work and non-resolution of a safety product defect that GM accepts no responsibility for. As with all else, I will fight the charges as MR. ** stated he was working with GM customer I don't care service to get things covered only to later stick me with the bill without any written repair cost estimate or agreement with me to complete the work. Thus, leading me on to believe GM was taking care of the problem. I will send this issue to BBB on GM and the dealer in Florida and the only GM product you will ever see in my driveway will be owned by someone else and I will definitely let them know about GM products.

Instrument cluster is non functional- no tach, speedometer, fuel gauge, oil pressure, voltage meter, temp gauge. (solution- check levels etc. often and use gps to monitor speed) Oxygen sensors bad. (solution- ignore. I actually gained 3-mpg in economy by not repairing. If I'm getting that increase it tells me I getting more efficiency thereby less pollution without the sensor working.) Front right running light out. I replace it numerous times and it keeps blowing. Look at any oncoming GM vehicle with similar vintage and 9 out of 10 times one of the running lights are out.
Heater blower switch doesn't work properly no high speed. Both front axle hubs failed within 4 months. I almost lost the entire wheel with one. Need I go on, I can't imagine what's next. GM has failed miserably with Quality control and does not stand by anything. I've owned GM products for over 52 years and absolutely will never again own one again in my lifetime! 2013 GMC SLT 3500 HD CC DRW 6.0L Gas 3:73 Limited Slip. Purchased used from Chevy dealership in Red Springs, NC 12/17/13 with 17,638 miles on it. I was led to believe this truck was 100% faultless. I reckon I proved it is never too late to not believe a GM dealership. I am a mid-60s fellow who would like to think there is honesty someplace in this world, especially in the USA, but, alas, not at a Chevy dealership in Red Springs, North Carolina for sure. I had a long drive (1,250 miles) to get back home, and I was in a rush to leave a place that did not feel comfortable. I know why now.
It was getting close to Christmas traffic rush, and I did not want to take any more of a chance driving in a part of the country I was not familiar with around the style of drivers I was witnessing. At that time, I had no need to actuate the four wheel drive knob, so, I just headed home in a decent truck in nice comfy weather (sunny and mid 50s). The long drive home was uneventful with the truck, although the type of goofballs on the roads were a different fiasco waiting to happen. It was several days later on a back country road in Kansas where I had stopped on a hill at a stop sign, rick on an ice slick. I casually reached for the 4x4 knob on the dash, and it looked like it went into four wheel drive (although I did not hear the familiar "clunk" of the front axle).
I started to accelerate gently, and nothing but rear tire slippage. My first thought was anything but dammit, although that is the kindest phrase I probably should use here. I figured at that moment no real good reason to get my knickers in a knot and possibly cause more harm than good. I would take a look at it later. (I am rather knowledgeable with mechanical things, and I can fix it myself at a later time, seeing as how I now do not trust GM dealerships a whole lot less than I might have 50 years ago, and the carnival events and hoop jumping to get it fixed under warranty will cost a lot more than if I just do it myself, and I know if I fix it, it will be done right rather than a bunch of strangers at some dealership of which I have heard from friends is no place to take anything to get it broke more ... uh ... I mean get it fixed the GM way ... NOT).
A few days later I was pulling a trailer that did not weigh over 3000 Lbs, and when pulling away from a stop light, there was a bit of crunching and popping coming from the rear differential area. The motion of the truck was smooth and nothing more evil was heard in the travel of the truck. When I returned to my shop I pulled the truck up on the drive-on lift. Raised the truck in the air. The right front axle shaft was rather moist at the seal area (of the front differential, small drips), especially for a truck with less than 20,000 miles on it. With the assistance of a couple of shop comrades, activating the electronic four wheel drive knob on the dash proved my suspicions correct. Transfer case encoder makes noise, but no activation of the front axle switch.
When I contacted the dealership where I purchased the truck at with the news of a bad four wheel drive system (I went into detail for them), I received no help, only humorous chatter. GM dealerships (at least in Red Springs, NC), are a worthless bunch of disrespectful immature characters that are an insult to all other GM employees and associates. I am rather comfortable with the idea that I can spend hundreds of dollars and several hours fixing this truck myself (transfer case, front axle, rear differential), and be comfortable knowing it is done right, and quite possibly cheaper in the long run than having to get involved with anymore GM dealerships. I have a good notion to start shopping for anything but GM from now on... but, it is possible all manufacturers are the same, greedy, with no concern of any kind for consumers. If you notice any misspelled words, I am getting old, and fighting severe arthritis. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I can only hope no one should be treated like I have been, and someplace (especially in the USA), there are people who care about others.

In 2001 I had a 2001 Yukon XL that had cold air coming in from under the dash under the glove box. It was in the dealer 5 times for this issue. I asked, "How many more times will I have to bring it in before they consider it a LEMON and give me a new truck". The was then resolved. Now I own a 2013 Sierra (one step down from the Denali), with the same problem. I've had it into the dealer 3 times and still not fixed. They resealed the HVAC box twice and stuffed a bunch of foam under the dash. Not the fix. They told me this normal that outside air comes into the cab. I have called other dealers and have been told that I should only feel air at outlets on the floor, dash, or defrost.
I know that fresh air comes into the HVAC box and mixes with warm air but should only come out of air delivery ducts (COMMON SENSE). Might as well drive in 15 below with the window down. So far this is the only complaint that I have. We've had other issues but have been fixed the first time from the same dealer. Both these vehicles were bought new. I've done some research and found that some have this problem and some don't (even Denalis). Just want the truck fixed right, not with band-aids to hide it.

I bought this truck used in 2006. I have had several issues with the truck that seem to be very common problems with GMC/Chevrolet trucks. The instruments' lights are almost all out (gauges, radio, steering wheel controls, heater controls). The gauges themselves have went completely out and had to have them repaired by a aftermarket shop ($100). The wiring harness on the back of the heater controls burned completely out ($75), three other people I personally know have had this same issue. The air bag sensor is bad, which I refuse to pay $250 to have replaced, so I'm not sure if the air bag really works or not.
The whole undercarriage has a huge rust issue happening. The injectors in the motor had to be replaced prematurely ($3000) because it turns out GM/Isuzu put an inferior fuel filtration system on the Duramax. The latest disaster has happened this past week when I tried to use my 4WD in the snow. I noticed the front wheels were not engaging. Although there were no codes showing, I went through and troubleshot the usual suspects.. Actuator working, encoder motor working, switches working although some lights are out, TCCM seems to be communicating fine.
After doing some research on the internet and inspecting the actual transfer case a little closer, its turns out I am now an official member of the "GM Pump Rub Club." Once again, due to poor engineering, the oil pump inside the case rubs a hole right through the outside housing allowing all the fluid to leak out while you're driving. So now my transfer case is toast (Reman $1200 plus labor). Also while I was under the truck troubleshooting the T-case and admiring all the rust, I noticed that the brake lines look like they've been laying on the bottom of the ocean for 50 years.
After reading others submissions, I see that this also seems to be a common problem with these trucks and could cost as much as $3000 to fix. These are all problems that are very common with GM trucks and that can be verified with a little searching on the internet. And they are also all problems that GM is fully aware of, and has been for years, and is unwilling to do anything about it. I realize the truck is 11 years old and I expect to have maintenance issue with it, but I shouldn't have to be putting thousands of dollars at a time fixing manufacturer errors.
GM sold this truck for $36,000+, is it unreasonable to expect it to have a premium fuel filtration system, a transfer case that won't eat itself, and some stainless steel or epoxy coated brake lines??? I mean, give me a break!! I would much rather have stainless steel brake lines than the stupid compass that's built into the rear view mirror...which, by-the-way, doesn't work anymore either... I've been a loyal GM/Chevy customer for 24 years, for as long as I've been driving, but not anymore. I will never own another one, and neither will the 20+ members of my family and friends who come to me for advice before buying vehicles. GM saved themselves a few thousand dollars by leaving me out in the cold to pay for these repairs myself, but in the long run, they have cost themselves hundreds of thousands of dollars in future vehicle purchases because of it.

I am currently the owner of a 2001 GMC 2500HD Sierra pickup. I purchased this particular vehicle in October of 2006 from Spearfish Motors, a GMC/Jeep/Cadillac dealer in my area. During the purchasing phase of this the vehicle I expressed my concern about rumored complaints regarding the transmission and transfer case in this model of pickup. I was told by the dealership that the system was “bullet proof” and that I would have nothing to worry about. Since that time I have had minimal issues with this truck other than normal wear and tear that I have had to pay for out of my own pocket. With that stated, I have had no complaints with this truck until now.
During the last major snowstorm that blanketed western South Dakota in early October 2013, I had to place my truck in 4-wheel drive. Upon doing so and in traveling a couple miles, I heard and felt an audible “clunk” come from underneath the truck. Due to the horrendous road conditions, I attributed it to either ice or a piece of debris in the roadway that had been hidden by the snow. Shortly thereafter, I felt the same “clunk” come from underneath the vehicle once again.
Upon arriving home, I called my mechanic and scheduled an appointment to have the problem diagnosed. After my mechanic placed my truck on the lift, he went straight to the transfer case and found the problem. There was a small hole worn through the transfer case from the inside due to the pump vibrating against the side of the casing and eventually rubbing a hole, in turn causing the fluid to leak out. He explained that this has been a problem with this particular transfer case and that he has had to repair/replace a number of them. I was fortunate enough to NOT have the transfer case seize up and leave me stranded in the storm.
This is where my complaint comes in. While I do understand that many mechanical issues arise due to normal or excessive use, I found through my research that this is not a mechanical problem that can be attributed to such. This particular problem with the transfer case is prevalent enough to garner its own title of being called “Pump Rub”. This is a problem that has come about by a design flaw that the end user has no control over. And through my research I have found that this is a mechanical problem that GMC and its dealerships have known about for quite some time yet we, the end users, are now footing the bill for repairs when it comes to getting the problem corrected.
I contacted the GMC Customer Assistance Center in Detroit via letter explaining most of what you have just read in my last couple of paragraphs. In light of the mechanical problem and what it was attributed to, I requested either compensation for parts or labor. I was called a few days later by a CSR and after my explanation of the problem I was told that there were no recalls on my vehicle for this particular issue. And it was further explained that for any compensation to be settled upon, any work would need to be done at a certified GM service center after an inspection of the problem was confirmed at their shop and there would need to be a recall in place first. In closing I would like to state that I am extremely disappointed in General Motors apathy in getting a known problem resolved. I will no longer stand behind the GMC brand and any future vehicles that I or my family owns will NOT be GMC. And this will be made known to my friends and their families.

When taking it in for service it has not been put in the computer system and all they were doing is putting a bandage on the situation each time. I then started having problems with the paint cracking on the exterior of the bed cover. Again it was taken to a body shop kept for almost a whole and when returned to me I was told the problem was corrected.
Now the paint is cracking worse than it was before it was bought to the dealer for repair. When receiving call from GMC I was told that service department at dealership stated that I had dropped something on the cover and this was the cause for the cracking. This is still happening as of today 8-14-2013 every day there is a different crack some place on the cover. There is less than 30,000 miles on the truck as of this complaint. The backing plates of this truck are rusted away, the brake lines have rusted through and failed twice (once causing an accident), the frame has an usual amount of rust for the use this truck gets and the blower motor has burned out blowing a 50 amp fuse under the hood. This truck has had very limited use, is not parked in an area of high moisture or salt exposure but is rusting away and this has been a safety issue with the brakes. There was also a safety issue with the tailgate straps that hasn't been corrected after a recall because they could not find the proper length tailgate straps.
I have owned numerous vehicles but never have experienced this kind of corrosion for a vehicle with so little use. I have researched this problem and see that it is not limited to myself and that many other owners of GMC trucks have also experienced the same type of corrosion issues. The NTSB has also launched an investigation to this matter. This is a safety issue and the build quality of these trucks is UNACCEPTABLE. I will NOT be purchasing a GM product ever again. It appears that the safety of their customers is not a concern for them as well as them standing behind their products.

My brake line broke while I was driving. I did not get an alarm informing me that there was something drastically wrong with my brakes till the line actually broke. I had just dropped off my camper to the dealership and was on my way home. I hate to think what would have happened if my brakes would have gone out while hauling my camper. My grandkids are my world and I could not believe that GMC has been notified of this problem and has not warned its owners. The air bag sensor went out ($300); the heater blower, module, etc. went out ($600); the doors sound like they are rubbing when opening and closing but can't seem to correct it, and misc. other items. This truck only has 80000 miles on it, but I am ready for a new one. Do you think it will be a GM truck? Think again. PS. I have been a GM truck owner since 1988. I am the second owner of a 2003 GMC Sierra 1500 Z71. I bought the truck with full understanding that the brake lines looked quite bad for the year model vehicle. I previously had a 1999 Z71 with nearly 200K miles and the lines didn't look nowhere close to the sorry condition these were in. I have owned my current truck for a little over a year and I have put only about 4,000 miles on it because of the fear of the lines rupturing. I have been driving it with caution, even though the brakes felt a little spongy.
Well long story short, one by one the lines have been busting. I thought maybe I bought one of those "Monday morning" built trucks and was surprised that this issue is widespread. GM needs to do something to make this right or they will start losing customers left and right. Use some of that bailout (hand out) money to satisfy your customers and install better quality brake lines. Wouldn't be a bad idea to help out the ones who paid out of pocket to replace theirs.

I own a 2009 GMC Sierra and the wheel covers keep coming off the vehicle. The first cover came off when the truck was under warranty and GM replaced it. The second cover came off after the warranty expired and GM agreed to replace it. When the first cover came off, I showed a technician at my local GM dealership that all of the wheel covers were loose and would most likely come off. They said, "We will deal with it when it happens." Recently, a third and existing wheel cover came off the vehicle and the local dealership will not replace it. The dealership told me to contact GM Customer Relations. I contacted them and they stated that their final decision is to not replace the wheel cover. I stated to them that this problem first started when the vehicle was under warranty and, furthermore, it is a safety issue that should be addressed and resolved by GM. I feel it is a safety issue because if one of these covers should come off when the vehicle is in motion, it could seriously injure anyone in the surrounding area. I stated my safety concerns to GM and they still responded with their position to not correct my wheel cover issues.

I purchased the 2006 2500HD diesel pickup new. The truck has had poor braking since new and the dealer has always said it functions normally. I have had the dealer do all the maintenance on the truck other than oil and filter changes. The undercarriage of the truck including all lines, brakes rotors, hubs has been rusting since new. The underside of the truck looks like a 20-year-old plow truck. On 12-6-2012, I was driving on the highway in traffic and then experienced a complete brake failure. Somehow I did not hit anything and was able to get to the shoulder and coast to a stop (very lucky in NJ traffic). The brake lines blew. The truck was towed back to the dealer and they find the lines are gone, as well as the rotors that they replaced about 2 years ago. The pads are still in great shape but the rotors are rusted beyond usability. Looking into this, I find I am not alone and would like to know if I can get info on the issue including - is the problem fixed in the new trucks and is compensation available as the truck is on its way to the rust graveyard with the sheet metal rusting from the underside also.

Failed, rusted brake and fuel lines on my GMC Sierra 2001: Two things started to happen: 1) The truck when coming to a stop of a speed of less than 25 mph started to lose its brakes and feel spongy. This continued until I got it in the shop which was about two days. 2) The truck started to run very rough and the engine light was coming on at the same time as well.
After I got it in the shop and they got it up on a lift, they found that all of the brake lines and fuel lines were almost rusted through and starting to leak. They had to replace all of the brake lines, fuel lines and since they had the fuel tank down, they replaced the fuel pump because they found rust and dirt in the old pump. The shop mechanic said the lines were ready to fail at any moment. The Chevy dealer I bought the truck from just four months early had just inspected it and had seen the rusted lines and even repaired a piece of one of the fuel lines but let the rest go to fail down the road. They gave me little to no help. This is a huge problem, dangerous as well as very expensive one and needs to be looked into. Is there any help I can get for this problem?

The truck has less than 90k miles. GM, I'm told, has changed the direction of the threading for the oil pump so that the pump doesn't just stop as mine did. However I have not given consent to reassemble the engine so a GM rep. could examine. We own a Garage Kept, 2005 GMC SIERRA HD, 2500 6.6L turbo V8 diesel with a 5speed, automatic Allison Transmission. It only has 41,000 actual miles. We drive it on an infrequent basis. We began to hear a "whining" noise when driving at any speed and on any road. Since we are aware the vehicle is out of factory warranty and we didn't purchase an extended warranty, we took the truck to a local transmission repair garage on Thursday, 09/27/12.
The owner called after inspecting the truck to inform us that it was a faulty bearing that had failed in the transmission's planetary gear which cut down into the splines of the gears. All of the components would require replacement. He quoted us prices of the GM parts totaling $2800.00, not including the labor. A new transmission ranges from $2000.00 to $8000.00. Mr. **, the mechanic, showed us the faulty bearing, the damaged gears and other components of the transmission. It is still possible to read the factory writing on the clutch as well as see a strip of blue paint on this bearing from the factory. These findings should confirm we haven't driven the truck hard or abused it in any way.
After seeing this firsthand, I decided to contact GM to discuss this further and see if they may offer any assistance with this matter. Customer Service for GM is a disgrace and a joke. Upon calling, your call is routed to one of many customer assistance locations. I have names of each representative I spoke with and their locations. The locations have ranged from MI and TX all the way to the Philippines! After multiple phone conversations, I continued to receive the same responses - "the truck is out of warranty" and "it must be inspected and diagnosed by a GM technician at a GM dealership." I was required to repeat my story to everyone I spoke to. The powertrain for these vehicles are warranted for 5 years/100,000 miles. I do understand my truck being 7 years old is out of warranty. But I strongly feel we should receive some assistance since this damage is due to a faulty part, not our use or treatment of the vehicle.
My husband went to our local GM dealer and was told by the Service Manager that there was nothing he can do. He provided us with the same 1-800 number I was already calling. So, I continued to call GM about this. I was directed to contact Allison Transmission with my problem. I made the call to Allison Transmission and began telling my story once again. The Allison Technician I am speaking with told me I must contact GM with this because the transmissions of the 2500 & 3500 models have an Allison-designed transmission, not actually Allison-built. GM is building these! The trucks are sold, advertised and even contain literature stating they contain an Allison Transmission. Nowhere can I find the information that these are only Allison-designed transmission built by GM themselves!
This is fraudulent, misleading, misrepresented and falsely advertised to the public consumer. It is now exactly one week later. I am still without my vehicle, and we must share one vehicle for transportation. Mr. **'s garage and his business continues to be burdened by the presence of my truck in his service area and I continue my quest to discuss this further with a GM Supervisor or Field Representative. The failure and poor quality of this one bearing (that by the way, only costs $12.53) has now destroyed my transmission and will cost thousands of dollars to repair. I am upset and disgusted with GM and the manner by which they have handled my issue. I am appalled to learn I don't have an actual "Allison Transmission." I am for sure without any doubt that I won't be the only upset consumer after this information is exposed!
I would be grateful for a lawyer to review this and let me know if we indeed have a case. The consumer has a right to know this! GM needs to be held accountable for intentionally falsely advertising these trucks have Allison Transmissions. It's on the window stickers of new trucks, and it's in owner manuals, brochures, and commercials. To add, in my experience with this, the dealership doesn't share this bit of information either! I'm sure it would cause second thoughts about purchasing these trucks with a lot of potential buyers. Thank you for your time.

2000 GMC truck not starting/ 2005 Impala ABS/Traction assist - First of all, the 5.3 liter engine. What a pathetic joke. The way this engine rattles and clatters, I should run diesel fuel in it. Let's eliminate the piston skirts and run it. These engines should have been recalled by GM to completely replace blocks, heads and pistons, but instead, we'll leave the consumer to buy a replacement engine for them - "junk".
I have replaced the fuel pump and sending unit in the tank, replaced the fuel pressure regulator, idle air valve, cam and crankshaft position sensors, along with the throttle position sensor as the truck occasionally would not run. If it started, then it was fine. Finally had a GM tech tell me the most likely cause of "this" problem now is the "passlock" anti-theft device in the ignition not correctly reading my keys and not allowing the fuel injection system to activate to start the truck. And once again, it sits dead in my driveway. I did read on the internet that these GM anti-theft systems are way more pain to the owners than to any would-be thief wanting to steal this "wreck". Oh, yes, let's not forget the door hinge pins rotting away, or the body panels that were lucky to make five years without holes rotting through them, or the instrument/radio lamp bulbs burning out regularly.
And then there is my 2005 Impala that I purchased around 2008. I have replaced all (4) wheel bearing/speed sensors on this car at least once since I bought it and yet the ABS/traction control system has not functioned on this car for more than six months total since buying it. I suppose I could just keep replacing speed sensor/bearings to try to keep the ABS working but what's the use, as it's simply a poor GM design (and told this by many) and will not last anyway? Oh, yes, then there was another time of having to remove the instrument cluster to ship it out to have that rebuilt because of the gauges malfunctioning - speedometer reading 120 mph when going an actual 40 mph.The lists go on and on. The satellite radio went out radio and the antenna was replaced. I had the truck for 1 week and went to pick the truck up. The radio did not work. I told them to keep the truck and give me a loner car until the problem’s fixed. It’s another week without my truck. The antenna went bad. The truck was towed twice for injector problems and it took 3 weeks to fix.
Within 6 months, the serpentine belt was replaced twice. They never replaced bad pulleys; they left that to me. At 70,000 miles, it’s another belt and 3 pulleys (my dime). At 92,000 miles, the dash board went out. Factory bulletin mentioned about problem. I had to argue with GM for repair and they finally did it after seeing I had bought 9 GM cars or trucks in the past 16 years. At 30,000 miles, I had to replace all rotors and the brake pads can't turn (factory rotors). Please keep in mind I never towed anything with this truck! At 102,000 miles - the issue is with all ball joints, stabilizer bushings, brake pads and rotors, and the steering stabilizer and sway bar bushings again.
he final nail in the coffin is that the brake line blew out on the Garden State Parkway when I was doing 65 mph, causing me to go off the road into the grass on the shoulder. I ordered all new factory bent brake lines to the sum of $45,000. To top all that off, I had to replace the 4x4 half shaft (CV joint). Never again will I buy a GM product. Now, that the government owns a stake in GM, the quality will go down for sure! If all of the above are built to fail, then the tire companies are kept in business because this trick eats tires for lunch: 25,000 miles per set. Great truck. Chinese cars and trucks can't be any worse! Thanks GM and your union for the garbage.

The dealer gave me the 866 number and I spoke with a female named "Charlie," who began to recite the mileage as their reason for turning their eye from an apparent ongoing problem.
As I dig into this, I find that the dealers all know about this problem and GM has actually redesigned the fix. They, on an average, fix about 40-50 of these per year. Not withstanding the mileage, there was an obvious design defect and should be rectified by GM. I make it known to anyone who reads this: GM knows it was a bad design and if an accident occurs due to this, GM is at fault. GM denied any participation in the fix.

I have a 2004 GMC Sierra Event with 84,375 miles in it. While at our town dump on the 2nd of November of 2011, I proceeded from 1 drop off location to the next (as usual), when as I slightly depressed my brake pedal to slow, the pedal went right to the floor. I almost ran into another vehicle, had I not depressed my emergency brake. T here was nowhere to turn to as vehicles were everywhere. Wow! Not knowing what was wrong, I continued to the next drop off point, with virtually no brakes.
I used the E-brake again to stop. I told the dump attendant what just happened, and he said, "that's probably why you're spewing what looks like brake fluid from your left rear. Sure enough, upon inspection the line blew. I got the vehicle to the local GMC dealer. Long story short, they wanted $360 to fix the brake line. Seth, the service manager, said it looks like the rest of the lines don't have much time left either. "Not good!" I got the vehicle home, called my son who is a mechanic for a local Jeep dealer, and he fixed the last foot or so of the brake line, where it blew. He said "dad, come here". He showed me under the hood where the visible brake lines are virtually rotted, and probably ready to go.
I am partially disabled and out of work. I couldn't afford to have the dealer replace the whole brake line, let alone now having to replace all the lines! I saw online, that this is an ongoing problem. Why is there no recall on this? If I were somewhere else going even faster, this could have been bad. Why are the car companies not required to use higher quality/more corrosive resistant lines? Yes I understand that would raise the sticker price, but for a life? This is brakes on something that rolls at very high speeds. We're talking about lives here, and nothing is being done about it as far as I can see? Plus my truck is less than 7 years old, as well as all these other vehicles, and I had only 84,375 miles in it, when it happened. Recall? I've put less than 20,000 miles on this used vehicle, and I need all brake lines replaced, as all are very rusty, and ready to go. I found this problem is huge online. Check out this website **.

Brake lines are all rusted. These must be made from some substandard recycled garbage. People can get killed when these start leaking and popping under pressure. Parking brakes are useless on these due to inferior design. Obviously GM does not care because nothing has been has been done about it.

I have a 2003 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4WD king cab, completely loaded pick up truck. On my way to a job interview, traveling along at 55 mph, I was approaching a 4-way intersection and signaled to make a right turn. I touched my brake pedal and it went within an inch of the floor. I was unable to make the turn and went right through the intersection. There was still maybe 10% brake remaining and within 25 to 30 ft, I was able to come to a stop. I too was unaware of a problem with brake failure in this make & model vehicle.
In this day and age with all the warning indicators in vehicles, it is hard to believe that this can happen without any warning at all. Thank God there were no other cars involved. There should be a recall of these vehicles before someone is not so lucky.

I bought a new 2011 GMC Sierra 3500 to start a business with hauling cars. The truck only has 6,000 miles on it and has been in the shop 7 times for the same problem that the check engine light comes on and the truck goes into reduced engine power mode where you can't go over 20 miles per hour and needs to be towed to the shop. This is destroying my business and me financially, not to mention, all this stress is affecting my health.
It looks like I will soon have to close the business and file for personal bankruptcy. I am working with a lemon law attorney, but because this truck is being used for a business, it doesn't fall under lemon law; it must be warranty law. GM offered to buy the truck back but that does me no good as my credit has been damaged big time since I started the business because I can't make any money with the truck. It is always in the shop and I would not get approved for another loan now to buy another truck with.
GM also offered to settle, where I keep the truck and they will give me $5,000. I have lost well over $5,000 with this truck. Now, the truck is in the shop again and has been for 9 days now, and they keep giving me a run around every day of why they can't give the truck back to me yet because they are still trying to fix it. I am in desperate need of some help. I don't know what to do. Any advice on what I can do would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I've owned GM cars for a long time. I consider myself a second generation GM consumer. My complaint is that my current truck, 2008 GMC sierra, is giving me issues with all the power window switch and also the door lock actuator. This is an on going problem since the first day of purchase. I've been to the dealer while the vehicle was still under warranty. But I know it's out of warranty and still have the same problems. I feel this is not fair.

I bought a 2001 GMC 3500 Serria dully from a local GM dealer. I really had a lot of respect for this dealership and I never would have thought in a million years they would do me wrong, but did I ever get a wake up call. I talked to the service manager before ever buying the truck. He told me it was in great shape. So, going on his word, I bought the truck only to find out it had busted head bolts, the power steering pump was bad, brakes were in bad shape, the belt tensioner was bad, it needed a new muffler, plug wires were rotten, plugs were old and bad, and they sold me a power train warranty that, when asked, did not cover any of the problems I now had. The dealer has really done me wrong. When asked, they tell me, well you should have driven it more, taken it out, and had it checked out. I was a great guy when buying it, now they don't know me,
