Drives well, but could be better. Sometimes the engine stalls in the middle of highway especially if you stop at the light. The Ford Explorer does not seem strong enough, or is not built to tow a heavy load behind it. However, the vehicle runs well.

A very nice ride. Good handling and responsiveness. We have taken a few cross-country trips with two and four passengers and all were comfortable. Two great trips through the mountains and the fuel economy even got better. Crossing the plains; just set the cruise and enjoy the ride. The only concern is when changing lanes on the driver's side, you have to move and turn your head. The mirrors don't cover it all. The only thing I would change is the next one would be 4 wheel drive. I've gotten stuck twice on our dirt road and sketchy a few other times.

Ford Explorer Excellent vehicles. From European to Americans. I started racing (drag) cars when I was 18. I am familiars with mechanics and keeping a vehicle in good running conditions. In my late 40's I move from dragging to the sea. So I needed a vehicle strong enough to move my boat around and get it out of of the water in not so good ramps. In 1998 I got my first Explorer XLT, which is still in service, with my brother in Puerto Rico. Later I got another Explorer EB 2010 that is my main vehicle at present. In nine years of service the only problem I have experience is with the thermostat once. I do regular maintenance in all my vehicles. My wife drives a Ford Explorer 2016. We are pleased with our Ford's', reliable, and good millage. Thanks.

I purchased my 2013 Ford Explorer in 2015 with no issues or damage. In 2017 maybe I noticed paint chipping around my hood and no place else. Fast forward to 2019 and it's gotten worse. I have made several complaints to Ford Motor Corporate office and have case numbers for each. After all that still no resolution. Had I reviewed videos and read comments online about Ford paint problems I never would have purchased a Ford vehicle. I have had several vehicles but never one with a paint chipping issue and Ford refuses to resolve it. There is an actual YouTube video of one of the plants employee admitting to Ford receiving a bad batch of paint. I will never purchase another Ford vehicle again.

I purchased a pre-owned 2016 Ford Explorer Platinum with 38,000 miles. Within the first 2 months I started experiencing significant issues with the vehicle. The battery would not hold a charge, was being overcharged by possibly the alternator and/or voltage regulator. I took it in to be check for this issue as well as transmission issues. I was sent back home with the vehicle after it was checked being told that nothing was wrong. The battery exploded from being overcharged, just a few days later. Acid everywhere under the hood causing additional damage and could have caused a fire in my garage.

The transmission issues that I am experiencing are as follows: Harsh Reverse (back-up) bump, that can both be heard and felt. Downhill descent metal on metal grinding. Improper shifting, Rapidly shifting into a lower gear at higher rates of speed. Front-end rolling bump. 4 wheel drive not working. Sensors going off for no reason. Wipers coming on without rain. Rear-end Suspension recall. Airbag recall. Mirrors sticking and clicking. Memory not working. Trunk assist not working. I am getting a complete runaround from Modern Ford. Denied a loaner so that I can continue to have a vehicle for work.

After reading these reviews, I AGREE THAT A CLASS ACTION SUIT NEEDS TO BE FILED!!!! I do not understand how people can afford to make car payments while being charged for extreme repair cost and/or left with the inconvenience of no vehicle. We own several Fords and this one has become an absolute nightmare! After reading all of these reviews I have come to realize that a lot of these issues are very dangerous. I have contacted the dealership, the dealerships corporate office (Modern of NC), the Ford Corporation, the finance company, the warranty company and an attorney. Please think twice before purchasing a Ford and DO NOT buy from any Modern Dealership, in NC. They are beyond rude and obnoxious!!

Shortly after obtaining my new 2019 Ford Explorer sport I noticed that when using the horn in a traffic alert to another driver, that the horn was so low and no volume that the other vehicle could not hear it. I investigated it when I got home and found the horn positioned just behind the grill and easily seen. I found one horn, a bracket for two horns and a space for two. I brought the Explorer into first oil change and told service Ford forgot to install the other horn. Mahwah NJ Ford was amazed at the discovery who contacted Ford. Ford told them they could not do anything, it's the way it is. The dealer gave me a phone number at Ford to try to correct, I set up a file to the service which got back to me about two days later saying they would not do anything. I reported this to NHTSA.

This is a great vehicle in almost every way except for the water pump design. Just know that most water pumps fail after 100,000 miles. Our Porsche Cayenne water pump failed at about 140,000 miles and cost $1300 to replace including labor. Recently our Ford Explorer water pump failed at $135,000 miles and cost $2,672 to replace! Twice the cost on the Porsche! Why, because it is in the engine behind the timing chain requiring removing the engine and replacing the water pump and timing chain. Ford, how could you be this stupid!

The tailgate foot lift system is not just a simple "put your foot under the rear of the vehicle" - #1 - you have to have the key fob in your pocket (how many women have pockets for a key fob?) and even then I have to try several times to hit the right spot. It is much easier to just use the key fob to open the tailgate. I have purchased Lincoln/Ford products for years in order to have the keyless entry system so that I do not carry the keys since I am in & out of my car often so do not carry a purse or have pockets for keys. In this Ford Explorer, you cannot leave the keys in the car since that will not allow you to lock the car. So then what is the purpose of the keyless entry? Big inconvenience. I wish that I had never purchased this vehicle.

I sat for a minute in shock and thankfully my daughter and I escaped safely. My Explorer was fully engulfed in flames and totally burned up. I lost a lot in my vehicle that was not covered by insurance. It was a terrifying experience. I did really like my explorer until then but safety is my #1 priority. I have called Ford multiple times and they will not investigate. There were no recalls on my vehicle. I would not recommend getting one! I want to prevent this from happening to others.

Bought my car a year ago, certified pre-owned. Covered under powertrain warranty up to 100,000 miles. It has been nothing but trouble. Explorer has been in the garage multiple times. It was in the shop in October for 3 weeks- mechanic told me he thought it needed a new engine, but Ford wouldn't replace it (keep in mind this is a Ford certified garage). March- took it to the garage again because it was making noises- they couldn't find anything wrong with it. A week later it breaks down while I'm 4 hours from my home.

That Ford dealership doesn't look at it for an entire week; identified the issue and fixed it the next day. However they called me to tell me as they were fixing it they broke something else so that part will not be in until 4 days later. 5 days later I call them back and they tell me that Ford will not pay beyond my 5 days rental as is in my CPO warranty. They didn't even look at my car for 7 days then they broke it again. Calling Ford customer service was not helpful at all. I called three times; not one representative would get me a manager even though I asked for one repeatedly. The first rep told me that they would open a case for me but it would take several days to process and then they'd tell me whether they would pay for the extended rental. I should not have to pay for Ford's mistakes. I will NEVER buy another Ford. Worst customer service ever.

I should not be having these kinds of issues with a car that is less than 4 years old and has less than 75k miles on it. Ford, get it together. This is the second time to bring our Ford Explorer platinum edition in for repair. It has only 20,000 miles on it. The first time was due to it not starting sometimes. We had the battery check and the place we were at checked the error codes. There were a few. One was the voltage regulator failed. I dont recall the rest. We took it to Ford and they told us there was corrosion in the battery and everything was fine. They did not do anything to the voltage regulator. There was a recall due to carbon monoxide leaking into the cabin.

Two weeks later and we are back. The car barley starts. The mirrors wont fold back out and the car reports that the driver assist has failed. Since we have had this car my wife has been having headaches and suffering from fatigue. We now have to get a carbon monoxide detector for the car so she will be alerted if it is at dangerous levels. My wife loves Fords. I have had Hondas all my life and have never had to bring one in for repair. Ford seems to have issues that they dont want to address. Likely due to the amount of cars they would have to repair.

We own a 2016 Ford Explorer Sport and it has 60K miles on it. We have liked the car until recently we had a rubbing sound coming from wheel. We took it into dealer to find out that it had a front wheel bearing worn out and just for added information, the other one was bad also so we replaced both at at cost of $1100. A month later, similar situation with rear and same result. Now we are out $2000+ dollars for wheel bearings on a car not even 3 years old and less than 70K miles.

I have filed complaints to Ford who refuses to acknowledge it was either a bad bearing, poor installation or poor design and therefore shares NONE of the expenses. I have owned GM, Fords, Toyota, Nissan and Jeep and never had this work done on some vehicles approaching 200K miles. Now it takes 4 on a relatively newer car? Will be my last Ford for sure. I also wrote a letter to every one of Fords Board of Directors and took my case to Gary Crossley Ford in Liberty, MO who performed the repairs. The end result is a lot of finger pointing and NO one taking responsibility. DON'T BUY a FORD and not from Crossley.

That is absolutely ridiculous. 12 months, 9300 miles. How can Ford possibly think I would accept that. I could have rented a car for less. They refuse to change the offer and tell me that I have 3 days or the offer/claim will be closed. The car has been in the shop over 6 weeks in total, with 24 pages of warranty work. The car now shifts very rough, clunks between 2nd and third and between 5th and 6th and often on the same downshift. The mechanic drove with me a short distance and heard the bad shift on the downshift saying it was normal... I drove a newer model and it wasn't rough. I could not duplicate the other bad shifts on such a short ride. Mechanic stated that, it's ok... I have two more years on the powertrain warranty...does me a lot of good along the road or after the warranty. Baierl Ford seems to be concerned, but I want a fix, not concern. I am a truck driver and a private pilot, so I am very aware of unusual noises. I wish Baierl would treat me like I know a little something about mechanics.

We called roadside assistance and were told within 90 minutes a tow truck would be there. My young son was in the car so we asked that in such a heavily populated area would they please send someone sooner. At 90 minutes we called again - we were assured it would’ve only 10 more minutes. At the 2.5 mark we called an Uber and abandoned the SUV. So 1 am in a bad area.

We finally received a call at 1:30 am by the tower to say it would’ve another 20-30 minutes. I told him to forget it, we left the car and would deal with it in the morning. Ford actually called at 2 am to see how the tow went. I nearly lost my mind. So how long did it take the next day for a tower? I purchased a 2006 Ford Eddie Bauer Explorer in 2017 along with a Ford protect PremiumCARE 4 year extended service plan at Hempstead Ford dealership in Hempstead, NY. The car's "coil harness connector, coil pack and plugs became corroded backfeeding to the coil". The car was in Centereach, NY and could not be driven to Hempstead. It was towed to Ford of Smithtown who told me that this was not covered under my PremiumCARE extended plan because the parts were corroded and quoted me a price of $1024.62, plus the cost of the spark plugs, plus tax to make the repair. This quote included the labor and since the electrical components would already be removed I would just have to pay for the spark plugs.

I reviewed my extended plan and went to Hempstead Ford where I purchased the car and spoke with the service manager. She spoke with the parts manager who verified all the parts needed for the repair were covered under the extended service plan. The Hempstead Ford parts manager personally contacted Smithtown Ford and advised them of this. Smithtown decided to honor the warranty but stated that the spark plugs were not covered and charged me $376.28 for labor to change the spark plugs and $25.68 for the plugs plus tax.

When Smithtown thought I was not covered under the extended service plan they quoted me a price of $1024 for the repair which included labor. Now that I am covered under the warranty and not paying for the installation of electrical components I am charged $376.28 for putting in 6 spark plugs. The Ford PremiumCARE protection plan which is 100% backed by the Ford Motor Company with service provided by Ford and Lincoln dealerships in the US, Canada and Mexico. I bought my 2016 Ford Explorer Sport brand new off the lot. I got it fully loaded with all the options at the low price of 52K. To say I am disappointed in this car is a complete understatement. It had problems from day 1. First, the cowling on the right passenger panel had to be replaced. Then the plastic molding from the passenger floorboard came apart. THEN, my trunk wouldn't close because it was HITTING the right rear light and took chips out of my paint because it was misaligned out of the factory (GREAT JOB!!). This was ALL before 30,000 miles.

At 40K, I started getting paint bubbling on the hood of the car. I was out of warranty at this point, so I had to spend $2000 at a local auto body shop to have it ground down and repainted. At 50,000 miles, I started hearing grinding metal sounds from the right front passenger side under the car along with what felt like hard shifting. Come to find out my transfer case/PTU is completely wrecked and has to be replaced. I have had NOTHING but problems with this car and I'm not even to 60,000 miles yet. This is the WORST car I have EVER owned. I will NEVER buy another Ford product.

The main reason I am writing this review is because I was recently at a stop light and a man came up to my vehicle and opened the back door to get in. I had my 5 year old in the backseat. Thankful I was a good distance from the car in front of me so I hit the gas knocking the man to the ground. I purchased a 2017 Ford Explorer Sport from Brewster Ford in Brewster, NY back in July, 2016. I paid $50k for the vehicle. A few months ago, it developed an oil leak. I brought it to Brewster Ford for repair. Over the last 2 months, I've brought it into Brewster Ford 4 times and they've attempted repairs 3 of those 4 times and with each repair, they've assured me that the leak was fixed. During the 4th visit, Brewster Ford had the vehicle for over 2 weeks and when I picked it up, they said it was "bone dry." They said they had coordinated their efforts with the Ford engineering team, they took the engine apart and promised that they had fixed the leak.

A few days after bringing it home, it started leaking again. I'm now being told by Brewster Ford that Corporate is having me bring it back a 5th time! Initially, the Regional Customer Service Management Team in Melbourne, FL had reached out to me to keep me apprised of the progress. Four team members contacted me at various times all claiming to be my "Regional Customer Service Manager." Heather **, Alicia **, Janeisha ** and Michele **. Now, after this 4th failed repair, they've all gone MIA. They do not answer their phone and they are not returning emails.

The car had 17,300 miles when it was first brought into the dealership and my understanding of the lemon law was that if the dealership and manufacturer were made aware of the problem before it hit 18,000 miles, that I'd be covered under New York Lemon Law. In addition, Brewster Ford and Corporate were notified of this problem within 24 months of my purchasing it. However, according to Heather **, she said their internal review board said that since not every repair was under the 18,000 mile mark, I had no case. However, the 4th repair was under 18,000 at 17,995, but the dealer entered the wrong mileage. I don't know if that was an oversight or intentional, but I sent Ford photos of the odometer that I had taken the morning I dropped it off showing 17,995 miles, but Ford Corporate has been unresponsive.

If you look at Ford's five-year stock history, they've steadily been declining in value and it's no wonder. Ford Corporate Customer Service is absolutely awful. Brewster Ford is not much better. I will never buy another Ford again and I encourage people reading this to please rethink your decision to buy a Ford. Ford does not stand by their vehicles. This has been a nightmare dealing with Corporate and the dealership. They really just don't care. As for me, I'm now waiting on Brewster Ford to let me know when they'll have a tech available to look at my vehicle for a 5th time. I'm now working on filing a complaint with the New York Attorney General's office to enter arbitration with Ford. What a hassle. FORD - never again.

Purchased this SUV (2014 Ford Explorer Sport) used with only 33,000 miles. Last month with approximately 43,000 miles on the car now, the AC unit stopped blowing cold air. A local Ford dealer advised it just needed a charge and did so for $160. A month later the issue surfaced again. The same dealer then advised it required an AC auxiliary line replacement. Parts and labor were $1,882 for a total of over $2,000 spent on this one issue. We love the size and performance of the car, but this expense coupled with poor gas mileage, a small gas tank, poor manufacturer consumer help, etc., I would not recommend this vehicle to those currently in the market for a new/used car.

Also, the previous owners installed a good stereo system with Bluetooth. I like the 4 wheel drive, and previous experience with this model, the last one was a few years older, and the stereo in the current one is better. I also like the safety features, as I have a grand baby that requires a car seat... But I wish it has better gas mileage and more cup holders, plus I need to get the fog lights to work as they didn't when I purchased the car. I love my Ford Explorer Sport Trac! I get the use of a truck and the comfort of a SUV in one vehicle. The heated seats are an added comfort especially with my back issue. It has a sunroof, so that is an added bonus especially in the summer. I am disabled so the comfort of the ride is extremely important to me. I like the gas mileage and how much I could fit into the bed. I would like to see a more stylish cockpit though. I would also like to see power seats throughout and not just on the driver's side. I noticed that car companies have started eliminating spare tires. I don't like that. I like having a spare on hand.

It drives smooth and has minimal maintenance. However, the doors auto lock and there is a problem with the auto lock where they fail to unlock. It's very much a hassle when it's the driver side door. It takes what seems like forever to get the door open. I would like to be able to disable it.

Great vehicle in the snow and easy to get around unlike any of our other vehicles. I've put about 100,000 miles on it. It runs great!! I bought this car thinking that it was a four wheel drive. I thought all Explorers were four wheel drive. Evidently it's a two wheel drive, but I'm still satisfied with the vehicle. I plan on keeping it maintained for as long as possible.

It is great for camping and hiking trips, and for every-day running around. It has a 3rd row of seats that fold down in the rear, as well as air conditioning and heater vents for the back seats that have their own temperature controls in the front. But Ford could make it easier to lay down the seats/put up third row. Also it could be a lot more efficient on fuel consumption. But overall, I have had a very good experience with my Ford Explorer.

However, I would've liked for it to have came with the cruise and brake control. It comes in very handy on the interstate not having to manually push on the brake and gas.

It's a nice family sized vehicle and you can fold the back row seat down for extra trunk space as needed. It's really nice. I love the size of it and the third row seating. It rides comfortable and even though it's a 6 cylinder it's not that bad on gas usage. I upgraded from a small Mercury Sable that just didn't suit me anymore size wise and very happy I did. This truck is awesome. Don't have to rent cars anymore to go out of town on vacation, this has plenty of room. However, I hate that the sunroof gets a lot of trash and debris in it over time and will cause it to leak when it rains hard, you have to take it to the shop to have the tubes cleaned. I haven't experienced any other major problems with this vehicle and hopefully I won't.

The reverse camera I love since it's so scary these days with small children getting hit because they cannot be seen. The heated steering wheel is also super nice to have on the cold days that we get around here. I will not go without those from this point on.

The vehicle runs great, as it's only 2 years old. It is roomy, with 6 passenger seats and many added features. I love having Sirius radio and the car start is super efficient for those very cold winter days we get. Also heated seats help with the same cold days. However, I wish I had gotten the pilot seats in the 2nd row. As it's easier for kids to get in and out to the 3rd row. As of right now, I have to put the 2nd row seats down so they can climb in to the back. It would be much easier to just not have to worry about that extra step.

I have a 2013 Ford Explorer Sport that the timing chain stretched out on back on March 28th. I went to the dealership I bought it and had it serviced at for the entire 2 years I have owned it to look into trading it in. They wouldn’t give me a trade in value until they did a diagnostic and told me to bring it in immediately. I paid to tow it there the next day and called in a few days later to follow up and they said they were very busy and hoped to look at it next week. Well after it sat there for a month without getting looked at I called Ford to see what they would do because of the poor service and because the timing chain is a very common problem they have and have issues TSB’s about it. I was told they would cover the repair and I made it very clear that I am out of warranty so I wanted to make sure they weren’t just checking to see if I was under warranty and was told no they do it for customer service reasons. I just needed to get a diagnostic done.

So I paid to tow it to another Ford dealer who determined it was a defect that shouldn’t of happened and then Ford denied my claim anyway because I was out of warranty. I actually had a check engine light come on over 9 months ago when I was under warranty and asked the dealership to look at it and I was told, “It’s just a crankshaft sensor, it means nothing so we cleared the error code for you,” and I had no reason not to believe them. I found out later that was very wrong and actually meant there was a timing issue in my motor that should of been addressed then but it wasn’t and then completely broke after I was out of warranty. I have spent 5 weeks now calling Ford constantly and getting told something different every single time I have called.

The service department then called to say that my timing chain had stretched out and come out of position and hit the pistons in my motor and now I need to replace the entire motor for over $6,000. I called 4 other Ford service departments and all said they don’t think that would be possible without the chain breaking apart while driving the vehicle (which mine did not) and that you can’t see the pistons at all while replacing the timing chain. They all said that the only way this could be possible is if they didn’t do the repair correctly and tried to turn the motor on with the vehicle out of time and it blew the motor but of course there is no way to prove this. I spent 2 weeks trying to get a call back from a supervisor at Ford and the first 4 tries no one ever called. I would call back in and be told that there aren’t any notes on my account requesting a supervisor call and I would have to start all over again.

When a supervisor finally called me back she didn’t attempt to help at all or look into any of the issues I brought forward and just said since my claim was already denied there was nothing she could do. It is clearly Ford's goal to give you the runaround for as long as possible until you just give up and go away. Even with the 9 weeks of horrible service from the dealership I bought it and Ford customer service, the fact it should of been fixed 9 months ago when they checked my check engine alarm or the fact I was lied to and told Ford would cover it even though I’m out of warranty they did absolutely nothing to help. There is no one you can talk to there that had the authority to actually fix the situation and they tell you the only thing you can do is write a letter to Phil ** which I did as well and got no response there.

Before I called Ford I was getting offered almost $10,000 to trade my vehicle in but now that it is known that I need a new motor no dealer will even give me an offer to trade it in so my car is worthless even though I still have 4 years of payments left and have only owned it for 2 years. I also have the paint bubbling up and peeling off all over my hood and tailgate and there are reviews about that everywhere online and is extremely common but Ford will not cover that at all. Even when people are still under warranty Ford rejects their claim saying they drove on the highway too much or they wash their vehicle too much and the only way to get them to cover anything is to take them to small claims court.

So now I have called over 10 times and each time begged them to review my claim again taking into account the fact that it should of been fixed 9 months ago, the horrible service runaround I have been put through and the lie I was told about covering my repair and each and every person refused to do that and says that it has already been reviewed once and Ford will not offer any financial assistance at all. So my only option now is to take Ford to small claims court after getting my kit from Zestar to get them to pay to repaint my car to at least get something out of Ford. I work in sales and meet with 3-5 people per day and make sure to tell as many as possible about the nightmare Ford has put me through and how little they value their customers and warn them all to stay away.

Because of my job I have to get a new vehicle every 3-4 years and so do the other 52 sales reps in my office and I have made sure all of them know how Ford treats customers and how well they honor their word and warned them to never ever buy a Ford again. I have written on Facebook, Twitter, filed a BBB complaint and review and left a review anywhere online I can to put this horrible story out there everywhere possible and try to save as many people from going through this same experience as I have been through. Ford has made it very clear they don’t care at all about any customer out there. There’s a group on Facebook for Ford paint issues with thousands of members sharing pictures of their very new vehicles with the paint bubbling everywhere and sharing their stories of what a nightmare Ford has been to deal with and how they reject every claim they get.

As usual though, Ford could care less about how many customers they screw over or how many customers they lose. So please heed this advice and never ever buy a Ford vehicle unless you plan on it only lasting a few years and getting absolutely zero help from Ford on Anthony whether you are under warranty or not because they will not help at all. Also, don’t believe them if they say they will cover a repair because they can easily change their mind a few days later and reject the claim or pretend like they have no documentation you ever called in or filed a claim (which has happened on 3 of my calls to Ford and I had to start the whole process over again).

I have bought 3 Ford vehicles in my 12 years of driving and always wanted to buy American made but Ford has proven that to be a horrible mistake on my part and if I want to keep a vehicle for more than 100,000 miles I have to buy a Toyota, Honda or Kia. Thank you for wasting 5 weeks of my life and thousands in wasted rental car payments and towing bills all for nothing. I should of just dumped my Ford Explorer when I had the chance 5 weeks ago when it was still a mystery what exactly was wrong with it and dealerships would at least give me an offer to trade it in. Now my car is worth nothing and it’s documented that the engine needs replaced and there is no way I can afford to pay over $6,000 to replace it.

First Ford I had purchased was a 97 Explorer. The vehicle ran forever even with a hum in the diff. I did nothing to it except change the tires and the oil. Great car. I think I had put 200k on it before dumping it for an 06 Eddie Bauer Explorer with just under 80k. The EB was a very comfortable car, however it would almost slam into reverse, definitely had some transmission issues. I had purchased an extended warranty through the dealer and figured they would fix it. After three times (bringing it in to different dealers) no one was ever able to fix the issue. Warranty expires, I'm stuck with it. The warranty was a huge waste of cash and as soon as you buy it all of these phone calls start pouring in from people trying to sell you extended warranties.

Just this year start getting a noise from under the hood, on the way to the mechanic the thing dies, have it towed in. Guy tells me it's the timing chain and it would be best to buy a new motor. The thing has 125k on it? A new motor? Dropping a used motor would cost over half of what the car is worth. Fifteen hundred to repair a timing chain on a poorly designed engine isn't even worth it. Say I do fix the engine, then the transmission goes (Ford apparently couldn't fix three different times). One outta two ain't so bad. I'm buying German. ** it. If I'm going to throw money in the garbage might as well have some fun while I do it.

I leased a 2016 Ford Explorer, I love the look and how the car drives. However a year into the lease it started to overheat, took it in and they ended up replacing the bents that open and close that help save gas. One thing that I definitely did not like is how Ford makes it difficult to approve you for rental car while your car is getting service. No more problems with overheating after that; however not even two months later the air conditioning failed during a heat wave, once again I took it with an appointment, once there, I was told they were very busy and that they won’t be able to see my car that day. I had to complain to the person in charge, finally after a long discussion, they finally agreed to approve me for a rental car, the air conditioner got fixed within a week.

A month later there was a 300 dollars rental charge to my credit card, I disputed the charges. No problems with the air conditioner now. Now the new problem is with the gears, the car seems to lose power when accelerating into traffic, it’s scary because the car doesn’t want to move, I can press on accelerator and the engine rubs and the car won’t move. I took it in and I was told it was the transmission, then they said all they had to do was reset the computer, not even a week later, I am experiencing the same problem, However now the wrench appeared on the dash for maintenance.

My lease is over next year on May 2018, I decide to pay the remainder of the year and return the car. I will be losing $6,000 dollars. The car will be 36000 miles soon, I figure it will be cheaper to return the car now, and do my research for a different company and car. The original plan was to buy after lease was over but no way I am keeping the car. Hope this helps consumers and also help Ford improve their cars.

I’ll start with a back story of why I got into a Ford Explorer to begin with and if I had a do-over I would NOT buy a Ford Explorer. For many years I wanted a SUV but was raising a family and couldn’t afford the extra expense. My kids are grown and flown and I’m divorced. So, I splurged on myself. I had my heart set on a Chevy Tahoe, but drove an Explorer and loved it. That’s not the problem. The complaint I have is the same complaint so many other Explorer owners have reported. Not knowing the correct term I’ll use what I’ve heard them called, the plastic pillars, windshield trim or to keep it clean, the unattractive piece that flies off while driving, making it a dangerous hazard to other drivers, and making a $40,000+ car look like crap. I just don’t understand why Ford Motor Company has allowed it to go on for so many years. Is it because consumers are still buying them? Is it because once they are bought then it’s out of Ford’s hands?

The other Ford SUVs don’t seem to have this problem. In fact, I noticed that the Ford Explorer seems to be the only one with the cheap plastic trim while the others look like one piece... The same material as the roof, hood, doors and fender... METAL!! Yes, the black trim dresses it up a bit, but when they fly off it looks like nothing more than a car that was not taken care of by the owner but is actually the manufactures fault and carelessness. I love my Explorer!!! So much that I had already decided that when the time came I would trade this one in and get another. But, that has changed. I paid $500+ to have the pillars replaced because I couldn’t get answers from Ford as to why this is happening and if they were going to honor it and fix it.

The replacements (brand new) already did the same thing. Can’t you see this is a problem? And, it has gone on for so many years untouched. And, there are so many complaints about this. Why isn’t it corrected by now? How can you let the Ford name tarnish by one piece that can be changed? What’s worse than bad business? Word of mouth, bad mouthing Ford for their choice to neglect and ignore this issue that they are fully aware of. My next purchase won’t be an Explorer, which saddens me because I really love everything about it, other than the obvious. Actually, my next purchase will NOT be a Ford at all. My one purchase won’t make or break your company. But, after a while you have to see the damage it’s doing to the name that has been around for so many generations.

The vehicle is already being built... Just do it right and get it over with already. You’ll have so many happy people and the word will get out that Ford does take care of their people. I can’t wait to get out of my Explorer. I am embarrassed driving it while it looks like a piece of trash. I’m embarrassed to say that’s my car. I’m embarrassed to have anyone drive with me because it’s well, embarrassing. Get it together Ford people... I’m not a proud owner of a FORD or a FORD EXPLORER for that matter.

I thought surely Ford would have improved this defect and maybe my car was the exception with faulty trim. I have 1300 miles on my new $50,000+ vehicle and already the trim is buckling on the driver's side of the windshield. So here I go again, back and forth to the dealership, to be held hostage by some cheap looking pieces of trim. Is there any chance that there is a class action suit against Ford because of this defect? I am going to complain to Ford again but I see my life for the next 34,000 miles left in the warranty, as one of returning to the dealership every month! What recourse do I have? Took it to the local dealership to find out that they've seen several of them but Ford isn't fixing them, no repainting, nothing if you're outside of the 3yr/36K original warranty and that Ford has pulled the service notes on how to repair and replaced them with the only option of have a new hood acquired and painted at the dealership (at some serious $$$).

Additionally to find out that most dealerships aren't even certified to handle the prep work for aluminum so I'd most likely back in the same situation in a short period of time. At this point I either pay a custom shop to strip and repair the existing hood before they repaint it or pay Ford to replace the hood and do the same thing to a brand new hood.

After a few days at the dealership, they said it appeared to be the clutch and they replaced it. Got it back and two days later, it did it again. Drove back to dealership and they had it for a day, but couldn't get it to do it, so I got it back.

Two days later, it happened once again. Dealership said if it happened again, drive it right to the dealership and don't turn it off. A tech went for a ride with me and was able to see what was happening. When we're driving back, lights on dash went off and the car drove fine. The tech said not to worry, they'd be able to get a code even though the lights on the dash went off. So I'm on my 3rd rental and waiting to hear what will be done. Luckily I leased my Explorer and everything is covered under warranty. My advice is stay far away from any Ford product with this transmission! It's dangerous and completely unreliable.

Updated on 10/20/2017: So it appears that a bolt in the clutch area was sheared and they will be ordering the part. After almost two weeks without my 2016 Ford Explorer Powertrain, I received a call from the service dept. at the Ford Dealer informing me that they had now ordered the part twice from Ford, but Ford has no idea where the part is??? The service rep said that they had to take my Explorer off the lift to free up space and was at a loss for words as to why Ford had no idea where the part was and was very apologetic. He stated as soon as the part arrived, they would get the Explorer back on the lift and fix it.

A day went by and he called back and said as luck would have it the part arrived and they had installed it, however they wanted to keep my Explorer for another day or so, to make sure it was ok. So I'm now waiting for a call to pick it up and crossing my fingers this is the end of it. If not, I guess I'll be contacting an attorney to see what my option are to break the lease and get my money back, very frustrating and have lost all confidence in Ford.

Bought a certify used 2013 Ford Explorer (3 years old when I bought it 2016). 1st month water leaked so bad that water was coming from the front interior ceiling cover and all the side of the windows and the back third row right passenger seatbelt was soak and wet. Ford fix it of course, but still has little like which they can't seem to figure out where it is leaking from (Only happen in heavy rain now). I know that their vehicle is over 100K miles, but a vehicle under 5 years old is now rattling and just replaced water pump and flush the system to get rid of possible water leak in (15Sept2017) at the dealer (cost: $710 everything).

Rattling is still there. I can hear it when turn on and worse when driving. Also, vehicle jerk some time when switching gear. Should I be worry about that? I don't know. Also, suspension is sounding like it's already wearing off. What does a certified used car mean anyway? I trust that it’s been fix to standard and back to shape before selling it to a new customer, right? At least that's what I think a certified used car mean. All, I know is my old 2001 Acura MDX lasted longer than the 2013 Explorer before it started giving me problem and I bought it after it has already been over 5 years old. So far my first domestic vehicle experience is pushing me to reconsider the import vehicle again. I am somewhat satisfied and more dissatisfied with my 2013 Ford Explorer.

I’m sorry but if this happens often then Ford should stand by their product and fix it. This will be my only Ford owning if this is how a company stands behind their vehicles... I was looking for a used SUV in 2002 and a friend car salesman recommended a 1998 Ford Explorer that he found on a lot in southern Tennessee. He had made a good deal with the owner of the lot in my behalf. The mileage was in the 30's. My wife and I went to the lot and test drove it for a couple of hours. As I drove, the front end didn't feel right. So, I took it back and we discussed the problem and they inspected it and found that it needed the front suspension replaced. They replaced the whole front end and I purchased it.

Over the coming years and another 100,000 miles, I replaced the same front end suspension for the fifth time, along with other items, such as water pump, radiator, alternator, etc. Then the paint started coming off. I finally wised up a little and gave it away. I know that I spent enough on it to have purchased a new one. I have purchased several cars and trucks in my 70 years and that was the worse one ever. I would never buy another Explorer. Thanks to the friend that introduced me to such a piece of junk. Thank you for letting me vent. I don't know about any of the newer models and if the problem has been solved. I hope that this helps someone else to make up their mind, before buying.

Went to the local dealer and they took some photos to get approval from FORD. Ford approved to repair the corrosion and NOT to replace it. The service advisor stated that there is a TSB for a repair, so they have to that first. Well, they repaired on December of 2016. Seven months later, the corrosion came back on the hood again. Again, went to the dealer and they took photos and submitted to Ford. Received message from the dealer today saying that Ford only approved to repair on the hood again. I asked the service advisor why would they not replace the hood, because the corrosion is going to keep on coming back? Dealer stated that FORD would not approve to replace the hood. Is this true? We bought this vehicle new in October of 2013. In 2015, I noticed the front perimeter of the hood had paint flaking off and maybe some rusting. I thought something like that should be covered under warranty so I sent an email and pictures to a contact we had at Ford. He said it was rock chip damage and that it wasn't covered under warranty. A friend at FORD has since told me that peeling paint and corrosion on the perimeter of the hood is the number one complaint on the 2013 Ford Explorer and that there was some kind of silent warranty in effect (which I guess means if the customer makes an issue, it gets fixed?).

For the record - in 2015 this would have been covered by warranty... not a silent warranty but actual warranty. And trust me, I would have made it an issue. But, when someone representing FORD who looks at vehicles all day tells me it is from rock chips, well, that's what I believed. I didn't even know the hood was aluminum so you can't really expect me to know it was corroding and peeling because of a paint issue. Fast forward to 2016. The chips are still there but now the paint on the side is bubbling. Clearly this is not rock chips as I make a point of not driving down the road sideways so I contact Ford again. Ford Canada offers 15% toward a $2500 replacement hood (painting is only temporary) and basically says "Hey, it's not our issue. You should have had it fixed when it was under warranty". I TRIED!!

Anyway, if you are considering a FORD, there are a lot of comments out there relating to the crap paint on various models of FORD products so buyer beware. I loved my Explorer and would have bought another one but will definitely explore another manufacturer now.

My 2008 Ford Explorer V8 AWD has had mechanical problems since the middle July. I dropped it off at the local Ford dealer on 7/20/16 and by Ford's diagnostic fault codes was diagnosed with bad Cam Phasers. The Cam Phasers were replaced and we picked it up on 7/28/16 and drove off on a family vacation to the lake the next day. While at the lake the vehicle died in traffic several times and the check engine light came on again. We took it to a local place and they read the codes as being the Cam Phasers again. I called the dealer and they said to bring it in when I was able and they would look at it again. I dropped it off on August 15 (after it had died on my in rush hour traffic on the highway with a semi truck fast approaching) and finally on August 29 after much troubleshooting and research on the fault codes, Ford concluded it was the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The part was not in stock and was given a completion date of Sept 8.

Then a memo changed the date to Sept. 12. Then a back order until October 23! The dealership cannot fix my vehicle without a part. I don't understand why or possibly how it could take 2 months to manufacture a part; however, I was patient and waited. Today is Oct 24 and there is no answer of when the PCM will be available from Ford. Ford will not even issue me a rental car for my obvious imposition and the Regional Sales Manager only wants to tell me she "understands" but has no answers. I need to speak with someone who is a little more action than talk.

In the mean time the local dealer has tried 3 aftermarket PCM's that do not work. Really, I don't want to 'settle' for an aftermarket Part. It is after all a Ford vehicle. Again, they are doing their part to try to fix my vehicle but if Ford is not producing a part, what are they supposed to do? This is my 3rd Explorer over 15 years. Wasn't happy with the 2004 that blew the water pump, timing chain and other components within 25K miles... especially the crack in the tailgate due to sub par engineering when you closed the glass. Hence why that option isn't available any longer. BUT, thought I'd give the redesigned body style a chance.

Anyway. First family trip (12K miles on the vehicle) it rides like, or worse than a covered wagon with 5 people and luggage loaded on it. Actually... very scary. Made it unharmed but anything over 70 and it swayed like it was going to flip. Not sure why I didn't take it in and complain then. Just assumed. Got home and the rear tires were so bad they were shredding metal. Got the rear end aligned and new tires put on which were worn on the inner rim because the alignment was toed out so bad. Tire dealer informed me that they could not align it all the way out because the knuckles in the rear were already worn. Took it to the dealer and they said there was nothing wrong with the suspension or alignment.

One year removed (and no other family trips) the thing still drives like a pissed off bull. I've got 44K on it and have "put up" with this because the dealers have told me there is nothing wrong with it. Took it back to the dealer who said they needed to align it first before assessing if anything is wrong with the suspension. Dealer assessment. $7500. ** to that. Dealer says someone must have hit something really hard because the front frame is cracked along with a bent RIGHT front and back wheels. He even explained that he tried to put a deflector on another customer but did not work. Said that Ford was aware of these complaints and was working on a Service Bulletin... not a recall... Once they have assessed the solution... Meanwhile we users are helpless... And it is a dangerous situation because it is carbon monoxide we are being exposed to. Also, I find that the driving/handling is too unrefined... You need to make adjustments all the time and when driving on the highway it can be easy to lose control of the car and also become a dangerous situation...

I called Ford customer care and was advised that there has not been a recall because not enough people are calling customer care and putting in a complaint with their VIN number. I beg you please call and complain. These transmissions are expensive and a lot of us cannot afford to have them fixed.

This morning I had to accelerate and the smell was so bad it gave me a headache.

My husband had a horrible experience with his Ford Explorer. It ruined our credit history when one of the two timing chains fell into the engine and destroyed the engine. After the repair other things no longer worked, like the horn. It wasn't covered under the warranty. Then the bearings went out. The new bearings failed and he was told because they were cheap overseas parts and he had to pay $100 more to get the "good" part. It wasn't covered under the engine warranty. My husband passed away on Monday (I am sure the stress didn't help him). My husband suddenly got very sick and passed Monday.

A friend wanted to borrow the truck while she had her transmission repaired. When she drove the truck, the lights started blinking, the power steering quit and she could barely turn it around to bring it back to me. In my opinion, all of these other reviews on here should file a class-action suit. I am not sure I can even sell the truck now and not sure it's worth changing into my name.

It was a plastic piece that seemed to have been held on by some 2-way tape and a small bracket or two. $100 to replace and repair. It still makes some noise on warm days while driving on the freeway. I am waiting for it to blow off again. Piece of crap design.

In 2006 I purchased new a 2006 Ford Explorer and it's been a good vehicle that has approximately 95,000 driven miles on it. Only recently it was discovered that the roof paint is peeling and beginning to rust. It appears to me that the roof was poorly painted and the coverage was too thin. Professionals have told me that the original painting was inferior much like the 2005 Explorer that was recalled for that very reason. My vehicle was manufactured in January of 2006 and I am convinced that the paint procedure was not changed until later in 2006. On July 25 my vehicle goes in a garage for a new paint job on the top. At this time the expense will be born by me. I feel like warranty or not, Ford did a poor job with the painting and should share in some or all of the cost including the use of a rental car for the week. I hope Ford sees this posting and takes some action of assistance.

They told me that yes the 2013 Explorer had been recalled for this problem, however, not the month that my car was manufactured. I filed a complaint and got a case number. The dealership then looked into the problem and said that it is the exact same problem that the other 2013 Explorers had and that were recalled for safety reasons. After about a month of my car being in the shop and no news from Ford they finally called and said that they would not be covering anything because the car was past its warranty (the car has 68,000 miles). I feel that Ford is liable for this issue and should stand behind their product and the safety of its customers.

Ok this is my second Explorer. My first was 2001, had 190000 on it when I finally sold it. Never had any issues with it, ran forever. Now I bought a 2008 Eddie Bauer model with around 63000 on it. Since around 68000, the radio would light up then not light up on and off. The interior lights would come on and off driving down the road. The heat fan, since 85000, won't work on 1 or 2 or 3 and 4. I take excellent care of my vehicles, somewhat of a nut, always on time for oil changes, filters, tire rotations, fix things when they need it or wearing out. But this set of issues is stupid. I did research on it.

Apparently, the ignition switch is the issue and has been an issue for a lot of people. I luckily do not have the automatic seats because if I did when the lights come on these seats go back all the way so you can get out. Problem people are driving down the road when this happens. I just get the lights on inside that mess you up at night. Ford should be recalling this issue asap. It is a safety issue. I am having mine replaced, I hope this corrects the other issues. If not that means another issue like a short. That will cost some money. This maybe my last Explorer after this. Sad, I love how they run, ride, safety long-lasting comfortable to drive.

I bought a brand new 2012 Ford Explorer at the end of 2011 and by end of 2012 I had already put in all new rotators, brake pads, and tires! They told me it was the "weather" when I had been complaining of squealing and other noises from the first 2 months on out. Then it was making more whistling sound towards the back that they for a long time couldn't figure out what was going on, turned out it was some other part of the tires/rotors or something, again NOT covered by anything??

How can a car have that many issues and it's blamed on the weather? So you're telling me FORDS cannot survive winter weather in New England? Then why sell them in NE. Firstly I am a FORD all the way girl never bought anything else in the 3 cars I had and the 3 trucks my husband had, had some issues but never anything like this on a brand new SUV! I constantly felt a "jutting" feeling when braking at certain speeds, shaking at certain speeds before and after the rotor etc changes, but it was just a sticky something or other no problem?!?

By beginning of 2014 I was driving in slight traffic downtown and all of a sudden the car overheated and died on the side of the road, smoke everywhere and leaking fluids everywhere.. We let it cool for about 4 hours and was able to drive it again. They were "unsure" what would have caused that? IT'S A BRAND NEW SUV!!! And yes we did all rotations, oil changes, etc on the mark when we were supposed to. Yet somehow nothing was ever covered and nothing was at fault of the car and the way it was built! Bringing a car in for the same issue 3-4x? That should be criminal on a new 40k vehicle! Needless to say after the new SUV dying in the middle of town I traded it in for a Toyota highlander who backs their cars! Never ever thought I'd go Toyota but I wouldn't change in a heartbeat, not ONE issue with the car yet besides a gas cap button and they fixed it immediately - no cost to me! Ridiculous. Will never buy Ford again! :(

My company provided a 2013 Ford Explorer as a company car. I used it for three years and put 85,000 miles on the vehicle. I decided to purchase the vehicle from the leasing company to give it to my college aged son. I was also getting a strong exhaust smell in the cabin which was happening for several months before the noise started.

The day I titled the car in my name, a loud pinging sound/puttering sound developed in the engine compartment. I took it to the dealer and found out that the exhaust manifold separated from the engine and it developed an exhaust leak. It cost $965 to repair. I asked the Dealer and called Ford Motor Company to ask if they would cover the repair. I was told the warranty ended at 80K for the exhaust and there was nothing they could do. Ford said to hold on to the receipt if there is a recall they would reimburse me.

Researching this issue online, I see there is a class action lawsuit against Ford for exhaust in the cabin. Many other posts about this similar issue. Clearly there is a manufacturing defect in the exhaust system that Ford knows about but is unwilling to correct. It's been a good vehicle and I have a new 2016 model, but I'm extremely disappointed in Ford for not taking care of this issue. Especially because if I took it back to them a month earlier, it still would have been under warranty.

I called Sam Pack Ford Lewisville where this unit was purchased new. I advised my new service advisor Mike of the issue. Told him that this is coming from the windshield. Mike thought this was odd but said they would check it out. Turns out that the windshield had to be re-sealed. All was good for some time before the car had more issues. The radio system would go blank and then turn on or back off without noticed. Took it back in for service and they couldn't find anything. Then the A/C would cool correctly and then this was resolved. Time has passed again with no issues until my mirror started to click when I folded them in. Called to make an appointment to have it replaced. Took an act of congress to have this replaced but Ford fixed it.

I had been so frustrated with Ford that I filed a complaint with them. It seems every time that I turned around something new would break. Mind you this vehicle is still under warranty. The dealership advised they would look at the issues after Ford contacted them. Issue was resolved but my frustration was gaining steam. The next time I took the car in for service was a squeal coming from the sunroof. When you would retract the sunroof mess to see out, the retraction of this would squeal. Call the dealership to have this fixed. The normal service advisor Mike was going on vacation to a foreign country. Another team member was working his tickets/jobs while out. He said that it can take a few days but will let me know. Called and told me the track need to be replaced and will call when done I picked up the car and drove off.

Then some time later the other mirror started to click like the drivers side. Called Ford and complain about this and how many things keep breaking. Again, took an act of congress to have this replaced but Ford fixed. Once this was fixed I started to notice a rattle in my door area like plastic was rubbing. Call once again to get this fix. The service guy said that they would get an interior tech on it. Called once again and filed a complaint with Ford. This car was driving me nuts with all the issues. I and the service advisor drove the car a few days later when I went to pick this up to find the issues hasn't been fixed.

When I called Ford again about the issues that advised me, the Sam Pack Service manager drove with me and I was very happy. I never drove with anyone other than the service advisor. The manager told Ford to have me take my car somewhere else. They were not going to look at it anymore. I then took this to Sam Pack Ford Carrollton to have them look at the issue. Still today the rattle is not fixed and both mirrors need to be replaced once again. The car has 48K miles and not only is it having an issue with the front end somewhere but I just had to have the AC fix. They told me a rock hit it and put a small hole in the line. Still can't get Ford to buy this POS back from me..

As a "Ford family"...thought this would be our best and last vehicle. Couldn't afford new but this was the next best thing, reasonable mileage and good looking. Bought (for an extra $1400) a bumper to bumper extended warranty on everything but cosmetic, the salesman said. So we're set...for 7 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Didn't have much use of it the first month. It was in their shop because of a roof leak somehow into the rear compartment, soaked carpet, and filled the spare tire hole under the black carpet, which we only found due to the tremendous mildew/musty smell.

Then there was a return trip for them to replace the driver's side entire door panel because the car was beautiful except the torn open arm rest/door pull on this panel, with foam rubber sticking out. The dealer wouldn't replace but agreed to, if we would buy the panel. Currently (and unfortunately too late), I have found complaint references online about both of these "defects" in the Explorer.

Saving the best for last, we waited for months for the dealer to get a Recall part in, for a known problem with the mechanical door handle, the part came in and we made the repair appointment because the rear camera and climate control, and menu screen, mounted in the dash, had just started a very loud clacking noise when car was turned on and also off. We got in both our vehicles to drive there, but when I started the Explorer, me...a person with COPD...had to literally jump out due to noxious fumes filling the car.

Which brings me to...they will not fix the exhaust problem unless we give them $700. So, you are wondering what about our bumper to bumper warranty? A brief phone explanation about that has something to do with cosmetic parts need to be removed to get to the problem area...and cosmetics are not covered! WTF??? This is doubletalk for 'screw the public'. The car is still at the dealer and we are going back to get more face to face info on that issue. Overnight, however, we have found multiple articles and complaints on the dangerous exhaust issue which seems to be in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 Explorers that Ford is ignoring. BEFORE YOU BUY ANYTHING, RESEARCH COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT ON THE INTERNET!!

I have replaced all four hubs, the transmission slips, the rear hatch is cracked, the door latch sensor reads gate ajar almost constantly with no one able to fix the problem, the 4x4 goes between doesn't work or won't shut off, cruise control went out, and now, on top of all that, I have finally fallen into the worst of the 4.0 V6 SOHC motor problems. The crap nylon cassette on the left side timing chain snapped and shot up cracking my valve cover.

Cheapest possible fix will be me pulling the motor myself and replacing the timing chains, guides and tensioners costing roughly $400. Not to mention all the gaskets, oil, small parts and tools I will also have to purchase to go said repair. What I want to know is WHY has Ford not recalled every last one of these garbage motors? Thousands upon thousands of complaints about the timing issues and not one thing being done by Ford to correct their obvious design and engineering flaw. Speaking with a dealer about this problem lands you being told it will be close to $10,000 to fix and usually requires the motor being replaced!!!

I will not pay out $10,000 for a repair on a vehicle that doesn't even blue book at that price. Something needs done about this! I intend on contacting as many people as I can who are experiencing these problems and attempting to file a class-action lawsuit against Ford. This is entirely uncalled for. The first thing that they asked me was, "did you buy it from this dealership?" I did not understand why they asked me this question. Basically they did not find anything wrong with the vehicle. I missed many days of work trying to resolve this problem. I'm an insurance agent and my vehicle is very much necessary. I took the vehicle back after they told me to purchase new tires because the warranty had, did not apply.

I have taken this vehicle everywhere to find out what's going on with the tire. Today October 15, 2015, after going to a second hand tire shop, I found someone that took their time to look at the truck closely. The gentlemen figured my drive axle was bent. I have spent money on numerous alignments, tire rotations and have had them balanced so much, it's not funny. Upon looking at the drive axle, it has completely rusted. Makes no sense. Now I have to have a new drive axle, rotors, brake pads, tires, and who knows what else because of the length of time this has gone on.

This company could care less, they have our money. And hey, as I have heard on several other posts, it's not their problem. The company makes sure that you know it. Service department charges to check it out and no solution. I have gas that leaks when I fill up my car, creaking windshield noise (sounds like an animal is scratching it) and the door attachments on the windows are popping off. This truck is junk! I pay 600 month in addition to car repairs on a 2013 car. My 2001 VW beetle never gave me problems, never. Some upgrade. I would not recommend this car to my enemy. Terrible company. I wonder if they have taken flooded cars that did not sell and do a few updates, then resale.

Ford Corporate and the dealership, I made the mistake of buying a new Ford Explorer. After 8 mos, the aluminum hood started oxidizing and was blistering and cracking the paint along the leading edge. Took it to the dealer to get fixed, 5500 miles on it. The dealership completely botched the paintwork "repairing" it. My wife and I lose it at the terrible paint work our new truck had. They left us in a rental and kept it to "repair the repair." Next day we were told it was done. It was worse, missing clearcoat, trash in the paint, tape lines along the leading edge. I explained the not only was this horrible work, but it would oxidize AGAIN. They kept it and "repaired the repair of the repair."

4 mos later, it is oxidizing again. Took it back and asked if they used the epoxy primer when they did the initial repair. "What?" was the answer I got. Had to have it fixed again and AGAIN. When it was all said and done, they had to "repair the repair of the repair of the initial repair of the repair of the repair." And they broke the clips for the seal under the hood and it was just hanging and looked like terrible. Was told "it was like that when it came in." Had to call Ford Corporate and GM of dealership. Got nothing from anyone.

Fast forward to last month, oxidizing again. And again, have to have multiple repairs of repairs done. Shop manager tells me there is nothing else he can do for me and tells me I have to take delivery of my vehicle with possibly the worst paint job yet. Call Ford, they will not do anything cause it is a dealer problem. Explained the oxidization, still told it is a problem with their repair. Get operations manager over to look at the problems with my truck, he says they are going to order a hood.

At this point we fill out the lemon law paperwork as this will be their last attempt to fix. Hood comes in, unpainted (so we have accomplished nothing). Then I am told I have to pay $100 deductible to Ford Corporate for the hood. I am not paying anything. Dealer says he will pay it if I take the negative comments off twitter and Facebook. I will not because I am still not satisfied and the repairs are merely a bandaid. New hood has arrived and we made an appointment to look at the work. It was dusty, dirty and not buffed, trash in paint. They knew we were coming in and left it like that, they KNEW. All I want is a repair that works and not be made to feel like I am the bad guy. I paid 35k for this truck and I am regretting it every day.

If it's helpful to others, there hasn't been any paint issues on my hood as I've read of other consumers having this problem but there is blistering right by my gas "door" and it's starting to rust. I'm noticing rust in the back wheel wells as well and I had a Ford Escort years ago where the body fell apart when I was driving. I live in Buffalo so I need an SUV and 4WD but I have to get rid of this truck before I end up with transmission problems next. I'm not soaking all that money into this truck to have something else go wrong. It is now sitting at my mechanic's house and hopefully the work will be done today. Very disappointed. And because of the age of the vehicle, I don't know if it's a manufacturing problem or a part's problem.

The resistor is red hot and ignites the leaves and twigs, causing smoke to exit out the ac and defrost vents. Where there is smoke, there is fire, which can cause the condenser housing and fan blower housing to melt and catch fire. This has happened twice within the last year.

We live on a dirt road and bought a 4 wheel drive which cannot be driven on a dirt road. We were also told that Ford is aware of this problem but isn't going to fix it due to the fact they have not had enough complaints. When we contacted Ford we then were harassed by phone calls wanting us to buy an extended warranty with Ford. How many people buy 4 wheel drives just to be told they cannot drive them on dirt roads? I went to the dealer. They rudely told me there was nothing they could do. I filed a complaint with Ford. Received a call from a senior manager or vice President. He rudely told me they could not do anything. I told him my car shouldn't have any rust for at least 15 years. He said the car should never rust but they can't determine if and when the car may rust. I responded, "I know I shouldn't have any rust on a $50,000 truck that's 2 years old". The guy says, “I'm not going to argue with you. I'm hanging up,” and he hung up on me. What do I do? I first noticed when I purchased my 2012 Ford Explorer that there very tiny chips on the windshield. I did not make it an issue at the time of purchase. Within six months (in the summer months) I noticed that these tiny chips were multiplying at a rapid pace. I took a closer look and these tiny chips were actually air bubbles between the pane of the windshield. After a couple of months of contacting Ford Canada (they did nothing about it, quoted me the 1 yr coverage) and my dealer, the dealer finally agreed to replace the windshield (September). At the beginning of summer this year (2015), I noticed that I am again experiencing the same problem. I have again brought to the attention of Ford Canada and their reply was to keep the receipts. I am also currently in conversation with the dealer...

Attached is a statement from Ford on a recall but for a different vehicle: The presence of bubbles may hinder drivers visibility thereby increasing the risk of a crash, according to the recall notice. The recall has been issued for certain model year 2011 Ford E-150, E-250, E-350 and E-450 vehicles. Ford says were built between May 12, 2011 and May 26, 2011. Due to improper manufacturing conditions, some of the windshields may form bubbles after an extended time in hot temperatures. As such, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 205, Glazing Materials, reads the statement.

Recently, my wife and I noticed an exhaust smell in the cabin of our 2014 Ford Explorer (8K miles) when we accelerated onto highways. We brought the vehicle to Ford and they told us there was a bulletin out on the exhaust issue. The Explorer loaner they gave us had the problem worse than ours so I asked for something different to drive.

When we got the Explorer back, I still noticed the problem and brought it back to Ford. They insisted that there was no problem so I went to my local fire department and borrowed a carbon monoxide meter and drove the car on the highway for one mile after testing various locations inside the cabin (for about 10 minutes while idling). Over one mile the carbon monoxide level in the cabin increased from 0 to 6 parts per million (PPM). After discovering the dangerous situation I brought the vehicle back to Ford who has now had the vehicle for right at 3 weeks and will not return my phone calls or update me on the issue.

I am posting this so that anyone who reads this can investigate this possible serious health issue for themselves. If you accelerate the vehicle and smell exhaust, take the vehicle into the dealership to have the problem fixed. If you smell exhaust it is still getting into the cabin and is very dangerous to your health. I am very concerned Ford has not recalled any vehicles (2011-2014) to make sure people are not driving around with dangerous exhaust fumes in the vehicle. I have talked to other Explorer owners around town and at gas stations and they have noticed this as well.

All looked good, and the brakes are relatively new. Next, I assumed something wrong in the rear end itself. After pulling the rear end apart, nothing was worn or broken. I was stumped. After peeling off the chrome skin, I discovered that behind the skin that the rim had broken, and roughly 2/3 of the rim was cracked around the rim. 04 Explorer XLT - So should I begin since the second I got the car? My truck had 66,000 miles when purchased. Let me begin by saying I know vehicles need maintenance. They have wear and tear and you need to keep up with them. My mother works at a shop and I have brought my truck in for every oil change, tune up and mechanical issue. First dealer didn't even change my bald tires before I got it, so I spent a pretty penny on those. Next my alternator went twice. Changed my coil pack less than a month of having it and this had been changed three times. Changed spark plugs. Had to change front ball joints. My drive shaft has had a nasty clunk since a month after getting it but still has fluid and when looked at it seems strong? Also my harmonic balancer is being changed for the second time. My back light fills with water and I continuously have to buy light bulbs (finally drilled a small hole to leak it out).

Now my truck has 92,000 miles on it and it has been blowing off misfires left and right which apparently is notorious for this vehicle. I fix the code then another one appears completely different from the first. I finally got fed up and went to trade it in. On the highway going 70 mph with a Mack truck behind me the truck just slows down to nothing. I'm on the middle lane and no one will allow me in the right lane. I sat on the highway for almost 2 hours - my car won't run over 3,000 rpm shift or anything. It’s been in the shop for a week and it now has about 13 misfire codes at once. This truck has been a nightmare. I've had older vehicles that I work on and lasts me a lot longer than this and less expensive. These are a joke. I still owe 7,467 dollars on my finance and no truck.

Problem with exhaust fumes coming into the cab of my Explorer. I began smelling an acrid odor every time accelerated. It continued to happen, so we took it to the Bartow Ford Dealership for service. They contacted the TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) and they said they needed to order the parts to repair it. We drove the Explorer home until the parts came in. We returned it to the service department when the parts came in and they said they had it fixed. Approximately a week and half later, I once again smelled the same acrid smell. We took it back "again" and they said a seal had come unglued and glued it back. A couple of weeks later, I smelled it yet again. We took it back and they said the glue they used wasn't the right glue and had now used the right glue and they said they glued down everything that could possibly come loose and cause us any more issues.

Well, here it is again just a few weeks later and it is back for the same reason and I was told today that after they spoke to someone at the Ford factory, there is nothing more they can do. The said they would give me the Ford Consumer Department's phone number to call. Well great, I'm sure they are going to just hop up and down with the desire to make me a happy camper. I have a $45,000 vehicle I am afraid to drive any significant distance for fear of getting both carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide poisoning. This has been an issue, I have since learned, with the Ford Explorer for years and even has a class action suit going for the 2011 - 2013 models. I'm thinking the 2014 should piggy back onto that lawsuit and make Ford pay up or fix the problem with their vehicle.

Now let me start off by saying that I know that explorers are not the best vehicle out there by any means. Actually my family and I were just stranded tonight 1/6/15 in 5 weather with windchill below 0. Due would battery dying while driving down the highway. (Not sure if it's the alternator or relay and cables?) But even with that happening I still believe the early '90's explorers are great trucks/suvs.

Before everyone starts saying "Wth is wrong with this guy" lol, take in account that if you do your research before purchasing one, you will find that they do break down a lot. But the stuff that does break down are easy and cheap fixes. (Now any car maker out there DOES NOT make a car model that doesn't have the same issues) plus if you know someone or are handy yourself, youtube can help out very well (plus for $20-25 you can buy a Hanes manual on your vehicle (which I highly recommend, I've bought one for every single car I've ever owned or worked on). They save a load of $ and you can learn a lot as well.

Example: not long after buying my 93, I blew a brake line. Shop wanted $350+. I ran all new one piece lines all the way around from my master cylinder for under $32. Went and bought my fiance a '94 eddie b. 4 door and same thing with brake line. Actually happened while test driving. I talked them down an extra $200 and did it myself. As long as you take care of it and do preventive maintenance (before things break), they can be very reliable. I feel bad for those who got stuck with the bad ones. (Probably due to previous owners lack of attention.) Just remember they'd deal any vehicle that wouldn't break down or have problems when mechanics would be out of business and prices would be outrageous to purchase. FYI: Haynes or Chilton books are a must if you want to save money and "stupid, waste of time trips to the ship just for troubleshooting" that will still cost you $ and still not get anything done. Goodluck.

I want to add myself to this list so maybe at some point they will have to admit it's a problem to the public and have a recall. My paint peeling happened shortly after my 2-year warranty but before the mileage warranty. They admitted this was a "known paint issue" from when the paint was applied. They told me the only way it would be totally fixed is if I had the hood replaced at a price of $1,884.25. They offered to pay half. I cannot afford at this time to pay for something that should have still be covered. I have pictures of other Explorer hoods with the same issue that I've seen in parking lots. I have not yet had it fixed. Thinking of putting a bumper sticker on my Explorer that says "Ask me about my hood."

How can a company admit to faulty work and yet not cover 100% of the expense to correct it? I have been to the Ford Plant and have taken the tour. I've enjoyed a vacation at "The Henry Ford." I've purchased Fords for years. Sorry to say, no more. I will start tweeting about this. If they owned up to the issue and fixed it, I would have been satisfied. But after talking to management at the dealer, having a case open about my hood and visiting their body shop all on my own time... and then being told I'd have to pay like $942.12 to fix it out of my own pocket? All aggravation that could have been handled by Ford. Oh, now my rear camera isn't working. Anyone having issues with the picture being opposite, then going black? I'm done.

Til' Today got on freeway and it started running ROUGH, I went from the fast lane and desperately fought to pull over. From the start of this odd, no response to gas, weird thumping sound, (struggling and praying) to a place - a speck of safety was about 20 seconds of time (felt like FOREVER). I finally coasted from 60mph to 10 mph - ZERO control overspeed. BLACK awful smelling smoke pouring out in front of driver's side. It was very scary as I had my son with me and cars were flying then at last second they would see I was barely going - passing me at 60mph. I have NO clue what is going on. The smoke stunk so much.

Strong Exhaust smell in cabin after accelerating onto freeway or anytime the rpm goes over 3500rpm. There are many more complaints on this issue than the numbers I see online. Also at least one lawsuit filed, which Ford tried to sweep under the carpet. This issue is in its fourth year (2011-2014 & probably 2015) and nothing has been done about it. NHSTA says "they are looking into it". I think they need to look a lot harder.

If there are "smells" entering the vehicle, then there is the very real possibility that part of that "smell" contains some significant quantity of "odorless" carbon monoxide. Some owners have tested and verified the presence of CO in their vehicles. THAT MAKES THIS A SAFETY ISSUE. Along with the safety concern, we have to roll down the windows and ventilate the car every time the engine rpm exceeds 3500. Totally unacceptable. I don't think this is a one or two vehicle issue. I think all the explorers and some of the Lincoln SUV's have the problem. I didn't pay $40,000 for a vehicle the manufacturer would not stand behind.

They won't stand behind it, and they sure don't want to ride in one. The TSB's have been issued, but do not solve the problem. I've been waiting on a visit from a Ford Field Service ENGINEER for about a month now. If the problem hasn't been fixed in four years of production, it probably won't be. Just more stalling tactics. No more Fords for my family, or anyone else I can talk out of buying one.

I have had issues with the transmission, a very noisy drive train, and the rear lift gate cracking. I took my car into a Ford dealer for its 100,000 mile (160,000 km) service which included new transmission fluid. Several months later, the car would not shift into overdrive so I took it back to the dealer. They told me that there is a steel pin attached to a servo that had worn out its bore in the aluminum transmission case. The transmission specialist told me that I was lucky as it usually occurred much sooner. On the net, a transmission technician said that if the end of the steel pin had been chamfered, rounded at the end instead of square cut, the wear would not have occurred. In other words I spent over a thousand dollars because something that would have cost a penny when manufactured was not done.

Next, my transmission case split, dumping fluid all over the street and leaving me stranded. This is a V8 Ford Explorer, equipped with a Class 3 hitch straight from the factory. The heaviest trailer it has towed is my 1,000 pound utility trailer. The car has not been worked hard or abused. My suspicion is the case was stressed or cracked when the pin was repaired. Almost $5,000 later my car is running again.

I now had an issue with Ford Canada's business practices. This transmission was sourced from the USA and shipped to Canada. In the USA the same transmission is supplied with an unlimited warranty. No mileage or time limits. In Canada, the service representative told me that I had a two-year warranty and refused to supply me with any paperwork to support that warranty. It is NOT acceptable business practice to have a large public company tell its customers to "wink wink, trust us, we will look after you". Clearly Ford does not value this Canadian customer as highly as they value their USA customers.

The rear lift gate cracked as I was driving on a cold, -30 C day. Ford will not repair the crack nor will it admit responsibility for the issue. I have not repaired it as yet as it appears that repairs are at best temporary. In my opinion the only permanent fix would be a stamped metal replacement, that would be the same expansion rate as the lift gate frame. Other issues are: rust appearing in the bottom seam of the driver's door and the rear lift gate, an electrical short affecting the door closing sensors, and an extremely noisy front differential thanks to an aluminum case expansion rate changing the wear pattern of the hypoid gears.

This is my third Ford Explorer, 1993 (two transmissions), 1997 and 2003. I also had a 1990 Aerostar (three transmissions) plus many other Fords over the years. I have been a loyal Ford customer for many years. I have owned a series of Fords for the last 49 years. No more.

As a final note, I would like the quality ratings to reflect the real world. We all hear about is how good an automaker's build quality is for the first trip around the block. In my view the real quality test is how much the car costs to run to its end of life. These days that would be about 250,000 miles. I suspect that automakers design major components with a mean time between failure significantly less than the expected life of the car. Is this done to reduce costs lowering the price of a new vehicle? In my case a $0.01 chamfer would not have made a significant difference. Is it done to encourage buying a new vehicle in order to always stay in the new vehicle warranty? Is it done to promote parts sales and dealership repair revenue? Automakers are not explaining.

Ford recently declined to repair the bubbling paint on the hood of my 2012 Ford Explorer on the basis it is out-of-warranty due to mileage (about 51,500 miles). Though Ford's advertising regularly touts the quality of its products, its actions speak louder than its words. Based on my research, Ford has had well-publicized corrosion issues for some time but has failed to correct the issue. Perhaps Ford's brainiac number crunchers estimated it would be more cost effective not to correct the issue. That is, the cost to fix the issue outweighs the impact of having customers complain about paint issues. Regardless of the economics, consumers who experience this issue are rightfully ticked-off as evidenced by the number of internet posts.

The Company's stance on this issue certainly causes one to question Ford's commitment to stand behind its vehicles. Every company inevitably encounters product quality issues. What differentiates a world-class company from its competitors is its commitment to quickly resolving customer issues. Based on my experience, prospective buyers are encouraged to consider other car companies who are more committed to customer service. Ford should also consider sending its executives to a remedial marketing class.

To anyone that will listen. June 3, 2014: I bought a 2004 Ford Explorer with the V6 4.0L SOHC engine. The 8th digit of the VIN is "K" which makes the motor a flex fuel engine. Even though we don't have any flex fuel in my State or anyone else's State as far as I have seen. I maintained the truck with extra careful Intentions, for my eldest son traveled in this particular vehicle often. The first (issue) that came up was the truck would jump in and out of four wheel drive at will! Especially when using the reverse gear. I would explain it like a SUV size rocket ship taking off backwards whenever it felt the Urge to do so. Totally Unsafe, Deadly unsafe and not worth the situation that Ford created with their “new & better/easier for the people design”.

Let me explain: Ford or Ford's Employees came up with this great idea to integrate the brake sensor with the wheel speed sensor and also somehow got the 4X4 switch involved in this mess which is mounted off the brake Calliper. Except for the little 4x4 switch that is to the left of your radio. Now, let's see if this has caused any of these symptoms - people who have 04 Ford Explorers with 4.0L SOHC has any of your SUV's just out of nowhere, you put the vehicle in Reverse and go to tap the gas and the SUV shoots backwards out of your driveway like a rocket ship? Probably scared the heck out of you!

Or how about trying to turn left or right and the SUV is jumping and skipping along the pavement because the truck thinks it needs to be in four wheel drive! Reason being is this. If one of your wheel bearings go bad or brakes are starting to get low, the brake/speed sensor is reporting to the PCM (Brain of vehicle) that something is not right. And how does the PCM react, it turns the 4x4 on and that's when your front tires go skipping across the road when you're trying to make a turn.

Oh yeah, by the way if one of your tires spin - like let's say your passenger front tire is parked in a mud puddle, it is the only mud puddle for miles, you probably could back right out with no problem in 2 wheel drive. But let's say it spins a few times in the 1 and only mud puddle. Guess What? Ford Motors did you another favor! The P.C.M. will now automatically turn on your 4 wheel drive even though your other 3 tires are sitting on asphalt! Unnecessary! If you're stuck and you believe that you need the assistance of your 4 wheel drive, I think men and women and some teenagers can push the button that says 4x4 Automatic (which means the 4x4 option will come on all by itself) 9 inches from your right hand. No getting out of the vehicle to lock hubs! Just put your finger on the button and push ONCE!

But my take on the 4x4 mess is they tried to do too much without thinking it all the way through. Like really don't need the 4x4 to automatically come on when it thinks we need 4x4 assistance. Case & point - if we needed to utilize that 4x4 service, we are very capable of pressing a button 9 inches from our hands. You THINK? My wife had one of the tires slip on the grass, brought the vehicle to a stop. Didn't think anything of it; it was summer! Well that smart Ford's Brain said my Wife needed some 4 wheel drive help... haha! Now like I explained to you earlier, if the vehicle is in 4 wheel drive and you're trying to Reverse? Yeah, you are now driving for NASA in your SUV rocket getting ready to shoot backwards at an undetermined speed. DANGEROUS!

OH ALSO if your front wheel bearings go (which 04 Ford Explorers are famous for), yeah they have brake sensors which are also integrated with the 4x4 system. That experience will drive you straight to the nearest Nut House. And don't forget that nice sweet smell of engine coolant that you can constantly smell as soon as you turn your vehicle off. Cause: plastic thermostat housing with metal screws that expand and contract all through our New England Weather which eventually cracks the plastic so the intake leaks but runs down the frame and comes out in the middle of the vehicle, right behind the seats - sometimes not that far. I have already replaced my engine in my son's truck. It's been 4 months. Already can smell sweet coolant again. Won't be long now! Does anyone care? Because WE the 2004 Ford Explorer Community, NEED HELP!

Will there be someone to step up from Ford or anywhere? Is there a SAVIOR left on this earth to DO THE RIGHT THING? Sorry people but my hypothesis (educated guess) Says NO. 2011 EXP LTD BD 06/02/2011. 1000 miles. Burnt oil smell during hard acceleration. This is easily repeatable and happens every time. Well now we have another confirmed issue with my LTD. Under hard accelerations coming from an on ramp and merging with fast moving traffic only. Otherwise, all you smell is the new leather in the cabin.

Accelerating normally, no smell. You have to accelerate at 3500 to 5000 rpm for this to occur. A/C is on, does not matter if climate is set to "recirculation" or if set to vent outside air. If anything, it is more acute if vent is set to "recirc". I am assuming the vent door blend system on this vehicle is operated via vacuum created by the intake manifold and piped through the firewall to a distribution block some where under the dash. As it takes a couple of seconds for the doors to move when changing climate settings. If this is true there could be an issue on how the vacuum lines were run during factory assembly, or a bad one way vacuum check valve causing some of the crank case fumes (intended to be recirculated back into the intake manifold to be re-burnt as part of this vehicles emissions solution), to enter the vacuum tubing being routed to the cabin for blend door operation.

But even then, there would probably have to be a loose vacuum tube somewhere under the interior's dash to allow the fumes to leak into the cabin air. This only occurs under hard acceleration when very high amounts of vacuum are generated by the intake manifold. Of course, I could be way off base and blend door activation could be electrically driven, but most car makers use a vacuum system, and have not had the opportunity to discuss this with the service team yet, but will tomorrow when I take in to have the suspension popping noise diagnosed. Apparently they will need to keep it all day for that, so they can also take a look at the vacuum line routing, check valve operation and the EGR tube routing to see if every thing looks correct.

I have found during searching this forum, that others have experienced this also. But have seemed to write it off as the vehicle just burning off some under coating over spray or something vague like that. But if that were the issue, you would smell it all the time once the vehicle systems warmed up to operating temperatures. And the smell should be much less when not venting air from the outside of the vehicle and somewhat more when climate control is set to "vent" and you are venting air from the outside.

The service rep (Debbie) told me the vehicle had no coolant (which was a lie) and engine overheated. Her exact words were, "Your engine is fried!!" I'm following up with the BBB about that too. She told me I needed a replacement engine. She said it would be 6400 dollars. When I had the vehicle towed from Ford, the radiator was full of coolant, and so was the overflow. I had a mechanic friend look the truck over and he said it had compression on 1/2 the motor. For the cost of replacing the timing chains... it would be easier and more sensible to replace the entire engine. So, this was a lose-lose situation for me. At time of installment on the second transmission, the service technician said the transmission had a 100,000 mile warranty beginning the day the new one was installed. He did not mention it would expire in 3 years. The second transmission is a little over 3 years old now and has less than 40,000 miles and completely locked up. I would like Team Ford to replace the transmission at my cost and that Team Ford pay for the labor, but they refused.

I bought what I thought was a nice 2002 Explorer. First the transmission went out, $2,000 to fix that at 132,000 miles. Then, the front wheel bearings went out, $575 to fix that. The rear end went out, $750 to fix that. And now the timing chain and guides are bad, $2,500 to fix that. I will never ever buy another Ford. This Explorer is junk and Ford should be ashamed they put this particular model on the market especially since they know these are all design flaws on their part, and will not do a thing to help correct it, except charge you full price to fix the flaws. Shame on you Ford!

On my way home, the driver's door on my 1993 Ford explorer caught fire. Now I'm left with lungs full of smoke and a messed up truck. While looking on the internet for answers to my problem, I found a website that listed recalls for my SUV. I think that the mirror switch must have caused the fire. From what I have read, mine wasn't the only one. I know that this is an old car but I think that Ford Motor Co. should be held accountable for the damage. This could have been a real tragedy.

On June 24 of 2012, I got home from work around 10:30 pm and at 11:30, my neighbors came yelling that my 1994 Ford Explorer was on fire. My husband tried to put it out but it was too late. I heard that there were recalls on the blower motor that controls the defrost, which I had on due to the rain. The car is completely destroyed and there is no salvaging anything. Do I have any case due to the recall?

I will never buy another Ford. The transmission went out at just over 65,000 miles without ever towing anything. Then, the AC quit working and other little things are falling apart that shouldn't. I found out today that U-Haul will not rent any trailer if you are hauling with a Ford Explorer! Mine is a 2005.

In 2006, I purchased a 2003 Ford Explorer from Carmax in Memphis, TN. The vehicle had slightly less than 20,000 miles on it. We felt we had purchased a quality vehicle that would serve our needs. My wife and I had both retired that same year. We now have 74,000 plus miles on the Explorer and have enjoyed having a vehicle with plenty of room. We are, however, extremely disappointed that we have a cracked panel on the rear door. Paint is peeling from around the cracked panel. I have done some research on this problem and have found that it has happened to a large number of 2003 Ford Explorers. Since this appears to be a nationwide problem with this model, I assumed there would be a recall or notification to bring the car back to a dealer for repair.

I am very upset that Ford Motor Company refuses to correct this defect on one of the most poplar of its vehicle brands. Since my wife and I are now both living on Social Security, buying another car was not an option. It appears safety could become an issue should the defective panel eventually cause the rear window to fall out. It seems Ford Motor Company is being extremely slow in addressing this problem. Had we known that Ford would not take care of a problem such as this, we would not have purchased a Ford product.

A company that fails to listen to its consumers will sooner or later show a sales decline. Please be the company that I thought you were. We are asking that you cover the expense of getting this rear door panel problem resolved. My grown children, as well as my parents, have had the experience of being Ford owners. Please make us proud again.

I purchased a new 2011 Ford Explorer with the Sync system. After repeated problems with the Sync system and after ten months of ownership, we still do not have a working system. At the time of purchase, Ford failed to disclose this ongoing problem with Ford and the Sync system. We would have not purchased this car knowing about this nightmare of a problem.

I purchase a used 2002 Ford Explorer. I had to have the transmission changed almost immediately. It lasted for a few months and they had to change it again. 7 months ago, I had to have yet another. That one didn't work at all so they installed another one. I recently have the 5th one installed.

I took our 2005 Ford Explorer to Service Department before warranty expired, previously Alexander Ford and now Ford of Murfreesboro. The transmission had been slipping periodically. They drove it and said nothing was wrong. I indicated to them that it slipped maybe once or twice every month or so. Now, the vehicle is out of warranty. I was driving in traffic and the transmission slipped on me. I had a car in front of me and when it finally let up, I almost hit the vehicle in front of me, with a baby in a car seat in the back seat. It scared me to death.

There appears to be so many transmission problems with the 2005 Explorers. This is dangerous and someone should do something about it for a recall. They should have checked my vehicle out more extensively other than barely drive it for a few minutes when it was under warranty. I had to drive home and park the vehicle. I have heart disease and this escalated my existing heart issue.

I own a 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Truck. I have less than 30,000 miles on this vehicle. On August 2, 2011, I went out to my truck to roll the windows up and the passenger side airbag deployed. I took the vehicle to Kerry Ford in Cincinnati to have the truck checked to see why the airbag deployed without cause. After the service department checked the vehicle, they could not find any reason why the airbag deployed. They called Ford Motor Company's customer service to see if they would assist with repairing the truck. They said the car was out of warranty and they could do nothing.

After approximately 140,000 mile, my AC compressor in my 1997 Ford Explorer gave out. I used my certified ASE mechanic and we replaced it with a genuine Ford compressor. My car is in an area with four seasons (Santa Fe, NM) so the AC is not used year round. After 16 months and 5000 mile, the genuine Ford compressor died. I "may" have had 2000 miles on it. My mechanic had to argue with Ford to replace the compressor since it was over 12 months old. I went a step further and asked Ford to reimburse me my labor (app $350.00), since a Ford compressor they sold me was obviously defective..

My wife was involved in an accident this week while driving her 2003 Ford Explorer Limited model. She was rear ended by an 18-wheeler which pushed her vehicle into other cars in front. The Ford is totaled and I have pictures to prove it. The whole front end is pushed in and the peculiar thing is that the driver's air bag did not deploy, but the passengers air bag did. There was no passenger in the car at the time of the accident. Thank God my wife only sustained soft tissue, whiplash injuries. I'm infuriated with the fact that Ford advertised and sold me on that fact of how safe the Ford SUV is. The air bag should have deployed and my wife was just plain old lucky not to have sustained more injury than she did.

My daughter was driving my 2001 Ford Explorer Sport. She lost control making a right hand turn. She sideswipped a sign and then jumped the curb and ran over some bushes and hit a house/chimney head on. The airbags did not deploy until after the vehicle was shut off and the passenger was already out of the vehicle. My daughter was 3/4 of the way out of the vehicle as well. The accident was severe enough to buckle the hood and put a crease up the middle of the hood, enough force for the airbag to have deployed on impact. If there was not enough force, then why did the airbags deploy after the fact? My daughter hit her chin on the steering wheel, causing a cut on her chin. Neither the passenger nor my daughter received any injuries from the airbags since they did not deploy properly. Had this been a more serious accident, they both could have been seriously injured.

I reported this to Ford Motor, and they are telling me that I should take it to a Ford Dealership and have them check the vehicle over at my cost. I am very thankful that it was not more serious. The damage to the vehicle is about $6000, which about $2000 of that is just airbags.

On September 12, 2007, I had just turned right onto a heavily traveled street in Lincoln, Nebraska. I drive a 2004 Ford Explorer. It has 49,692 miles on it. I headed south on this street for about 15 feet when I heard a large pop or bang. At that moment, I discovered the side airbags on both the driver and passenger sides had deployed without any cause. I neither hit anything nor had anything hit me. I honestly thought someone was shooting at me or had thrown something at my car. I quickly stepped on the brake and luckily, the cars behind me were at a distance and did not hit me. I noticed what I thought was smoke in the car and thought the car was on fire until I noticed these bags hanging from the ceiling. I had no idea what had happened.

I was able to drive the car to the Ford dealer where we purchased the car. They were quite surprised to see what had happened to my car and said it happened very rarely. After running some diagnostic tests, I was told that the restraint control module had registered some crash or rollover activity, Crash Code 1231. The zone manager was emailed and responded that the car had performed like it should in a crash setting and therefore, Ford Motor Company is not responsible. This is ludicrous! I did not hit nor did anyone hit me. My car has no damage whatsoever. I asked the car dealer service people if it could be determined that this module was defective. I was told that they had no way of determining that and I should contact my insurance agent.

The cost of this repair could be as much as $3,000 or more. I can't understand how Ford Motor Company could just say they aren't liable without further investigation. The zone dealer has not even seen my car. I was told the person is located in Kansas City, Missouri. I asked for contact information for the zone manager and was told that that information is never given out, and that the zone manager would talk to me or my husband. This could have been a very serious occurrence had I been injured by the airbags or been on the highway I was headed for doing 65 miles an hour. I could have lost control of the car and ended up having an accident or in a ditch.

I cannot believe Ford Motor Company is taking this so lightly. I have read many stories of airbags deploying without cause. If anyone has any information or similar stories related to airbag deployment on 2004 Ford Explorers, I would be interested in hearing from them. These automobile companies need to be held accountable for their defective equipment. I just wonder what the story would be if I had been killed or injured.

On 11/15/06, I was involved in a motor vehicle accident in my niece’s 2001 Ford Explorer Sport. I was driving between 50 and 55mph on a rain-slicked highway when I was side-swiped by another vehicle. I somehow lost control of my vehicle, hit a tree at a high rate of speed, and flipped a few times. Needless to say, the truck was totaled. I feel very fortunate to have escaped the accident with my life, but it greatly upsets me that the multiple head, neck, and back injuries I sustained could have been avoided had the vehicle airbags deployed. NEITHER THE FRONT, SIDE, NOR PASSENGER AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. After my experience and reading about similar experiences of others, I am beginning to view airbags as a false sense of security. I contacted Ford regarding my accident and their representatives appeared very concerned, but I can only pray something is done to fix the problem. Several weeks have passed since the accident, and I continue to experience head and muscle aches daily. The two inch gash (from the windshield) over my left eye is healing fairly quickly, but I still must use tweezers to pluck out small pieces of embedded glass.
