Up until this week I have leased two Ford Explorers both a Sport and Platinum. My brother has also leased two Sport Explorers. In almost 6 years having Ford Explorers my brother and I combined have gone through 2 engine replacements, 3 blown turbos, electrical transmission problems, blown catalytic converter, and AC issues. In addition, I have a friend who owned a Explorer and he went through 2 timing chain replacements in 3 years. Then he turned his in that Explorer to get a new Explorer and now has a slew of technology related issues on his new one.
Overall, it doesn't seem like Ford is building a quality vehicle. Furthermore, they never have courtesy vehicles when your car is getting repaired, they will pay for a rental but only if you can rent a Ford model vehicle which is like finding a blue Rhino. For the rental you have to find it, the dealership doesn't really care to get involved. Based on my experience, my brothers, and my friends, I would not recommend a Ford Explorer. Hopefully, Ford can fix their issues and start producing quality Explorer's again in the future.

My 2020 Ford Explorer has been in the shop now for 7 months and no end in sight. Ford has shipped the incorrect part to fix my car 3 times. They refuse to give me a rental car or a lease buyout. In addition my car is leased and Ford tells me I need to keep making payments. I also explained this is severely affecting me financially, but Ford Motor company does not care. If you buy a Ford and need it repaired from an accident, buyer be aware you may not get your car back for over half a year!

Recently I had an issue with the rubber gasket underneath the front windshield pillar molding. The gasket came loose and then tore and broke. When I searched for a replacement I discovered that side windshield pillar molding failures on the Ford Explorer are common and that Ford has not issued a recall. Further investigation indicated the cost for ford to replace the part may be over $900. How can ford in good faith charge owners for a design defect? Very disappointed that this was not disclosed when purchasing my vehicle since this was reported as early as 2013 (and maybe earlier models).

I have had my Ford Explorer for three years with 50,000 miles on it it’s a 2017 sport we paid $60,000 for it. Every single piece of my trim on the car is popping off and when I reported it to the dealership they told me to call Ford service and as I did that they said that they would only pay $155 of my $750 bill to replace the trim on the front of my car because a piece flew off when I was driving. Then when I wanted to escalate it and speak to a supervisor a supervisor called me back the next day and said she would pay $500. Then the following day another supervisor called and said that was a mistake.
I escalated to talk to somebody else and that supervisor told me "too bad we made a mistake - you either take the $155 or you take nothing." Ford really disappointed me. My car is only three years old and yes I’m over the 36,000 miles but they should back their product. I have had seven recalls on my car and I’ve now had to buy double-sided tape to fix the other trim. And the trim for the windshield we’re buying the pieces online. I’m gonna watch a YouTube video to fix it and it’s only gonna cost us $100. Thank you Ford for not backing up on your product yet more than my recalls was for trim so I guess only some trim is recalled but not all.

I love the 2018 Ford Explorer. It's great in poor weather. The only negative I can really say is the blind spots when attempting to get into oncoming traffic or backing up. The camera is helpful but doesn't provide the information right away.

The Ford Explorer has to be the best vehicle I've ever owned. This is my third one and no regrets whatsoever. Ford continues to offer safe, affordable, and comfortable vehicles. The Explorer is excellent in snow and ice. Where I live, most roads in the winter are covered with one and/or the other, but no worries with the Explorer. If you have to take a long trip, it is so comfortable....it almost drives by itself. I hate long trips, but find I am at my destination in no time! I would highly recommend an Explorer! There is a reason why our State Troopers in Maine drive them!

I had previously owned 1995 Explorer. Had major transmission problems. Ford reimbursed small amount for the repairs. Unfortunately the second Explorer now owns. With same problems. No responses from Ford.

The explorer is very comfortable and easy to drive. The gas mileage for a combination of city and travel is over 23 miles per gallon. The seats are very comfortable. The heated steering wheel is great. I recommend the Explorer.

The 2020 has been completely renovated. Has enough safety features to keep you and everyone safe. Pre-collision alert, parking rear and front alerts, huge and easy to use display for phone, GPS, backup camera, audio, etc. Even comes with Ford Alexa which makes it so easy to make calls, ask for directions, play your play list and on and on. Love the massaging, heated and cooled passenger and driver seats. Very comfortable rider and comfortable seats. Great driving modes - slippery, normal, sport, eco, deep snow, etc. Awesome moon roof. Love the pull up shades on the back seat windows.

My Ford Explorer is probably favorite because of reliability and comfort. It also has the power I need plus decent mileage. My greatest concern is safety for my family. I feel like we Are in good hands.

The SUV has 125,000 miles on it and feels like it has 500,000. It's a rough ride, and its suspension is weak. It's not a comfortable vehicle and is stressful on the back. The vehicle is a Police Utility model. Now I see why so many police officers complain of back problems from driving them.

I love my vehicle. Smooth riding, stylish, kinda pricey. But you pay for what you want, my issue mainly – It has too many recalls, I've had the vehicle less than a year and already three recalls.

Dependable, Comfortable and versatile for the money. Gasoline mileage not the greatest but it makes up with the torque power. No major repair problems. Braking is dependable and in rain is responsive.

I really love my Explorer, it's great to drive and has a lot of add-ons that are great! I did have one big issue with my car though, a little over 50,000 miles the transmission went out after the warranty expired!!

Car has all the bells and safety devices of anything on the market. You cannot tell what year it is as far as style goes which I like, it is very roomy, easy to navigate. Nice big steering wheel for big guys or girls who like the feel of a big steering wheel, my wife loves it.

I purchased a 2011 Ford Explorer Limited and not only does it have a 3rd row seat so that I may fit all my kids in, but it's extremely comfortable! I live in Bend, Oregon where we get a great deal of snow and it handles absolutely awesome!

I actually have a Ford Explorer Sport Trac. It has a very comfortable inside like the Explorer..but has a bed on back like an F150 (but shorter by a little). Husband got one and I liked it so much I traded in my Ford Escape to get one.

Ford explorer is a roomy SUV that has an extremely comfortable ride. It has a multitude of safety features, and is a stylish vehicle. When you fold down the rear seats there is plenty of room for hauling. The 3rd row seat makes it a breeze to fit 8 passengers.

I purchased a used 2014 Ford Explorer Sport with approx. 33k miles on it (currently at 102K). While the size and performance have been impressive, the Ford Explorer is complete junk. In the 2-3 years I have owned it, I have had to replace a steering rack at 75k ($2k+), airbag wiring harness ($600) as well as essentially all of the front end (control arms, etc) for another $1,800. In total, I am close to $5k in repairs, all of which are due to poor quality of parts used for the Explorer. Unfortunately, I can no longer recommend Ford to anyone as I have a 2007 Suburban with 195k miles on it that cost much less to maintain over time than a 2014 Explorer with 50% less miles. My intent was to purchase this as a car/truck that I could keep and use for many years to come, as I have with my Chevy, but unfortunately Ford is not in the business to make a quality product that they stand by.

We purchased a new 2016 Ford Explorer XLT with every option offered including the trailer tow package. The Explorer overall has been great. The Explorer offers plenty of room for us and our two dogs and is comfortable on long trips. Phone connectivity can sometimes be a problem and we have had two batteries fail that were supplied by Ford. When the second battery failed I went out and purchased the best gel cell battery I could find.

My experience with the vehicle selection was a 5 with 3 of the 4 dealerships. One of the Ford dealerships, Peoria Ford, is why car salesman and dealerships get their bad reputation from. They promise a good deal and when you ask for detailed information and more information about their pricing, they did not respond. Peoria Ford would get a 1.

After being a General Motors customer for almost all of my adult life and with the bad experience with the last two Chevrolet trucks of bad transmission and bad air conditioning problems on both vehicles even while in warranty and with the same problems just as they went out of warranty I finally had enough. I am now in my second Ford. On both of the Ford automobiles I have had nothing but very positive experience. On one of my Ford’s it was just out of warranty, I had a small problem with the air conditioner. I carried it to the dealership that I bought it from. They repaired the problem and even though it was about two thousand out of warranty and when I went to pickup my car, they didn’t charge me anything. The service advisor stated that they would take care if it!

This is the second Ford Explorer that I have owned. I absolutely love it! The way it drives and handles make it so easy to handle on the road and in town. I love how convenient the back gate is when loading things from groceries to suitcases, to extra teens. The improvements in the Navigation system make getting from one spot to another very easy, even in the most complex directions. It is luxury in an SUV and is my most very favorite car I have ever owned! (I had a Mercedes before this, and the Explorer outshines it in every way!)

I've issues with a faulty water pump. The repair is over $2500 and possibly will cause a engine replacement as well. The company needs to do a recall and show its responsibility for not ever checking this part during routine maintenance.

The Explorer is fun to drive, but the seats lack some seat support. Power is good. Could be better. Trans is. Smooth. Ride is very comfortable and responsible to input. Value is a little better than average, the problem is resale is just average. That I find to be a problem with most SUV’s.

My husband and I have owned 2 Explorers. We eventually sold our first one with 300,000 miles on it to a relative who continues to drive it now. My husband drives over 54 miles each way each day to work. His Explorer has 256,000 plus miles on it. We plan to keep it until 300,000 or more. We have had no major issues with these vehicles. Other than routine maintenance, we have had perfect service from both Explorers. They ride exceptionally well on long trips. We DO keep all basic car care seriously. We always change our oil, check tires, breaks, batteries, etc... and replace as needed. The dependability is extra important for me as a woman. I work full time as an educator with a prosthetic leg that goes above my knee. That means getting stranded is extra stressful. We would absolutely recommend these vehicles. I drive a Ford Escape so I can attest the the dependability of these types of SUVs.
