My husband went to Firestone in Cookeville, TN to get a new tire. His tire failed when a small stick punctured the sidewall and couldn't be patched. Now these tires came on a NEW 2300 Heavy Duty Dodge Truck. The tire that failed had approximately 1000 miles only on it. We bought an extended warranty on the truck but the Chrysler dealer in Cookeville said the tire was not COVERED! He said to go to Firestone in Cookeville and they did absolutely nothing! They were to take 1 hour to change the tire and it took 3 hours to change 1 tire. No more Firestone tires for us!!

While I was in Afghanistan, my sister had four new Firestone tires put on my car. When I came home, I glanced at the tires and noticed that the tread seemed a little shallow but chalked it up to my first time seeing them. After 13,000 miles, my rear ones (front wheel drive) were bald and the front ones had about an 1/8" left. I took them back to the tire store who proceeded to send them to the factory. I just heard that they said there wasn't anything found to be wrong with the tire manufacturing and that there was no tread warranty so I am basically screwed out of about $400. Will never buy another Firestone tire as long as I live. Just wish I would have taken pictures before they were sent in.

Dropped off wife's vehicle 9am. Was called later that day stating that the vehicle was done. When I got there it still had all four tires off and it took them 30 minutes to get the vehicle out of the garage. When we first got there they said it would take 10 minutes. And we tried to pay at that time but apparently someone on the phone took priority in the middle of the conversation. I would never come back and I advise others the same. Just trying to not waste other people’s important time.

I could rant and rave about the Firestone Company and its authorized retailers, but the bottom line is the Firestone Destination tire is junk. Sidewall separation at 1423 miles and the company doesn't care. Buyer Beware with this company and its products.

First, I purchased BRAKES for my 2006 Chevy 04/22/2012. They were making a bad sound. Then went back to store, they say they put on new brakes. It still make sounds and I paid 422 dollars for rotors and brakes. Number 2, I took my Wife's car to Firestone 5523 Clinton hwy, Knoxville, TN 37912 because I wanted to give them another chance. They blew it. They tried to sell me things I didn't need. I made an appointment at 7 am 08/30/2013 for a noise heard passenger side wheel was making. These crooks tried to tell me it was both of my wheel bearing hubs. I told them to change just the one then they keep her car from 7am to 3pm, too long. Then they charged me 401.85 including a 14.99 inspection fee and a 12.05 shop fee. I think that's not right. Then they tried to tell me the transmission was making a noise. BEWARE.

I received a response from Tom concerning my previous complaint about defective tires. The email address given for my response was fraudulent and my problem has not been solved. I have had a mechanic look at the tires and he has determined that even with ball joint issues the tires should not have worn as badly as they did. I do not see Firestone doing anything to correct the issue. I was sold substandard tires and the ball joint problem only served to worsen it. If I do not see some kind of resolution I will have to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General of the Commonwealth. Wear is wear, but steel metal belting emerging from my tires is a whole different matter. One specifically of safety.

On January 7, 2013 I purchased 4 "brand new" tires from Firestone, Wilmington, MA for my 2000 Chevy Blazer at the cost of $649.00. A free alignment was included with the purchase. At checkout the service provider informed me that I needed my lower left front ball joint replaced and that I should forego the alignment pending its replacement. I took his advice and my paid invoice. On July 21, 2013 I scheduled an appointment with the same service department to replace the lower left front ball joint, my seven-month-old front tires now being completely bald and wire mesh visible on the driver's side tire. I was never informed that an alignment may have prevented the wear on the tires because had I been informed I would have had the alignment done at the first service appointment. In addition the service provider calls me to tell me that the upper ball joint also needs replacement. Total cost for ball joint replacement $449.00.
When I went to put up my vehicle the service provider says, "I put a quote in there for two 'brand new' tires." I said, "Oh, to replace the 'brand new' ones you put on 7 months ago to the tune of $649.00." I want to be reimbursed either the cost of my tires or the cost of the work done on July 21, 2013. I will be seeking other remedies if your company does not care to address this issue. I'm not rich, but your company is getting rich with these practices.
Hello,
My name is Tom and I am with the Firestone Complete Auto Care Corporate office. I have read through your concerns and want to apologize for the inconvenience this whole experience has caused you. We are always sorry to learn when the customer has experienced a problem with their tires. We can assure you that we intend for every customer to receive the good service we build into our tires and the full benefits of our tire warranty. Unfortunately, when there is play in a ball joint as indicated to you at the time of the tire purchase a proper alignment can not be performed hence the service advisors recommendation to replace the ball joint and then come back for a proper alignment. Since the vehicle went 6 months without replacing the ball joint as recommended the tires started to wear unevenly. Based on the information provided, the cause of the failures appears to be due to circumstances not covered under our standard warranty. However, we would like to have another opportunity to inspect your tires and see what can be done to help. Please message social@bfrc.com with the information posted and an invoice number or phone number on your account.

I purchased two front tires from the Firestone, Lincoln CA store on 02/11/2012. They were 100AP119 Primewell PS830/850 BL 205/60R16 92H with a 40,000 mile limited warranty. I paid $74.99 each. Somewhere along the line, I was supposed to know that I was to rotate these tires on a regular basis. They said the information was in the Tire Maintenance Warranty Book... that I should have read. I now have 11,294 miles on these tires and they were starting to ride rough. I took the car into a local tire shop today, as now the closest Firestone store to me is 1 1/2 hours away.
Here I was told they were cupped and nothing could be done about it. I called the Lincoln Firestone store and was encouraged to call the Firestone store in Santa Barbara and they should '"take care of me". The gal in Lincoln felt Firestone could rotate the tires to solve the cupping or dismount the tires and flip them around and that could solve the problem. I called and spoke to the store manager in Santa Barbara. He suggested I drive down (1 1/2 hrs) and maybe he could give me 1/2 off of the original $74.99 to purchase new tires but he wouldn't know about that until I drove down there.
I have just decided to chock it up to a bad experience. I will no longer do business with Firestone as I feel they did not take care of me. No alignment was suggested, no rotation was suggested when I saw them in August of last year. Now I'm stuck with these wobbly tires until I can afford to purchase four new tires!

I went to Firestone to get an oil change and my brakes done and it came to $468 which I thought was ridiculously high and they gave me a sheet telling me what they recommended to be done. They explained that I needed new ball joints right away. They gave me a pricing and told me it would basically be 1000 dollars. So I obviously got a second opinion by R and J Automotives and they gave me a price much less than that, less than half of what Firestone was asking. They were appalled at how much Firestone was asking! And they ran some numbers and they told me they could have given me an oil change and brakes done for 100 bucks less! I will never be going back to Firestone!

On 3/22/2013, I took my truck to Firestone in Woodstock, GA to have two tires replaced and balanced. I also got an oil change and have a front-end alignment done. I had a 10am appointment and stayed while the work was done. My truck was not pulled into the garage until almost 11am but then the work was done quickly. A few days later, doing some work to the truck myself, I pulled the front wheels off the truck and noticed excessive gouging and damage to the wheels, and also found over 4.5 oz of wheel weights used to balance the wheel/tire assembly. I am a trained mechanic myself with over 15 years in the industry and find this unacceptable. Nowhere is it acceptable for a shop to damage a set of wheels when mounting and balancing tires.
Also, excessive amounts of wheel weights are a direct sign of a bigger issue. Either the tire is extremely unbalanced from the factory or the person doing the work is unskilled. Either circumstance is unacceptable when dealing with automotive repair, as they can directly result in people's safety on the roads. I called the shop on 3/30/2013 to notify the store manager of my complaints. The store manager was rude, obviously did not wish to hear what I had to say. After speaking my piece, he informed me that he felt that my complaints were invalid. He then offered to re-balance the wheels. I am not happy with this offer, as he completely disregarded my concerns about the wheel damage, and also informed me that he felt there was really no issue with the excess of weights used to balance the wheel.
In my opinion, this man and his shop are unprofessional and a possible threat to public safety. They're ignoring proper procedures to prevent damage to customer vehicles and proper procedure when performing tasks to guarantee safety. At this time, I do not trust this shop to do any further work on any vehicles, let alone my own.

Do not take your car to this people except maybe for a tire change. I took my car there for a tune up with no mechanical issue. They charged me $500 for a tune up transmission flush and a brake check. After about 4 hours, I got my car back and before I got to my house 4 blocks away, the traction control and the electric throttle light kick in. I made a U-turn and went back to Firestone. The guy who was working on my car told me that it was okay. He explained to me that the light is on because he cleaned the engine and the light will go off after one or 2 days of driving. I drove an entire week and the light was still there. I went back there three times for that same issue. Every time, they will plug a little computer on my car, let it run for a minute, cut the engine of my car off and cut it back on and told me that the issue was fixed. (When you do that, the light goes away until you start driving again.)
The last time they kept my car for almost an entire day just to tell me that they couldn't fix whatever was causing the fault and that they had nothing to do with that malfunction (even though it happened after they have worked on my car) and that I should take my car to a dealership. I did that today and it took less than one hour for the dealership to find the issue and to correct it and guess what, they told me that Firestone created that issue and they did pay for the repair. So I'm thinking if a big company like Firestone created a malfunction on a car and it's not able to identify what they did wrong or how to fix a relatively simple fault, they shouldn't be in business. This company sucks. They don't know a thing about a vehicle. Don't make the same mistake I did and end up in my situation.

I brought my Toyota Matrix in at 11:30 this morning for front brakes. I had my tires rotated two weeks ago and was advised at that time by Trax Tires (the place I purchased my tires) that I was getting close to needing new brakes. Keep in mind, there had been no indication that there was any problem, no squeaking. Because I was taking a road trip tomorrow and Firestone offered a mail in rebate, I decided to have the work done. I knew of the rebate because I had an oil change approximately 2 weeks ago and was told about it. This morning, I was told they would get my car back in 20-30 minutes and do the inspection. I was asked if I was waiting or dropping it off. I made it clear that I was waiting and would be next door at Starbucks.
At 1:10pm, I received a call not to tell me my car was ready, but to tell me I needed front brakes. Unbelievable is how I felt! It is now 2:45pm and I am sitting in the waiting area, still waiting. This is the worst experience I have ever had with auto mechanics. There is no excuse for the poor customer service I received today. I wish to advise everyone that Firestone is not the place to go. Horrible customer service! Horrible manager, who showed absolutely no concern for the excessive delay in the work. I actually feel that they delayed the work because I was not sitting here the whole time.

So back in August of 2012, I went into Bridgestone Firestone (2521 Plainfield Rd., Joliet, IL 60435) to get some work done to my car because it was making a loud and annoying noise. So after going to Firestone, I was told that I had to get my harmonic balance pulley system done. After they did the work and I paid the $368.56, the noise stopped and the car was fine... for a while. But came October 20, 2012, my car began to make the same noise again. So I called them to let them know that I needed to bring the car to be looked at. So they told me when would be good to bring the car, and that Thursday (October 26, 2012), I took the car.
When I got there, I told Nick my situation of how I had the work done with them and the noise came back. I wanted to get it checked out. Nick then took my car to the garage, and thankfully the noise happened when he started the car so that I didn't seem crazy. While my car was in the garage, they looked under the hood once, turned the car off and started three times. That was all they did. After about 10 to 20 minutes, Nick came back in and told me that it was another pulley that was causing the noise and it needed to be replaced and that it was going to cost $250. So I told them I wasn't paying that right then. I left and went to class, but later on that night, I went out bowling with some friends.
On the way home, I heard a pop under my hood and started hearing a loud noise. I then pulled over, only to find that the pulley wheel had come off and went barely hanging on. I took it to another shop the next morning and had them take a look at it. They told me that to replace my harmonic balance, they had to take off and place the wheel back on and that it was not replaced in the car right. This shows that during my visit to Bridgestone Firestone, they didn't check anything on my car, because if they had, they would have seen that the wheel was not connected the correct way. And the thing that pissed me off was they just went right into trying to charge me more money for something that they didn't check in hopes that I would just go along with it and just pay for the work.

Wrongful termination/discrimination - I am a former employee of this company and I would like to express my concern for a wrongful termination, and to some extent, some discrimination. I was fired on August 20, 2012 due to a customer complaining about my attitude. It was basically a total misunderstanding between me and the customer because I was telling her we were overbooked and understaffed for the morning and that her wait time would be awhile. I went on to voice my sympathy for her having to wait and told her that if anything happened to me, I would not want my wife to come into this store because I felt like I was the only one who was pulling their weight and trying to keep customers happy by not making empty promises and that I just try to make it to closing time everyday without having any problems.
She took my sympathy wrong and even after apologizing in the store and giving her a free oil change, she called in a complaint. My district manager, Paul **, was on vacation during this but upon arriving to work the following week, he didn't even call the lady at first but decided to fire me immediately. I then called the customer and apologized again. I explained what I was trying to convey to her and she stated that she took me in the wrong way and that we were square and was very thankful and nice.
I then called Paul to tell him about the situation but he didn't want to hear it. He even lied when I asked him if he had talked to the customer which he stated he did but I had just hung up with her and she stated she had not spoken to Paul yet. I feel that I was totally being singled out for no reason and that Paul just wanted to get rid of me for no good reason other than the fact that he was tired of complaints in the district. Even after he finally called the customer, he stated she felt the same way which was also another lie because she said she was satisfied with our conversation and understood what I was saying to her that day.
After all this, Paul was still firm with terminating me so I called customers of all walks of life and asked them to tell Paul what they thought of me and his office was flooded with numerous phone calls with customers expressing their disapproval for his decision and describing my customer relations, my character, work ethic, and all that I have done for this store. He then stated he would take this into consideration and call me back.
Well, a week later, while I was on vacation, I finally called him back and he said, "Oh, yeah. I thought you knew you were terminated." He didn't even listen to the majority of customers or even the customer that filed the complaint in the first place. He showed no compassion for me and my family and how something like this could affect my whole life - after all I have done for the store, nt to mention that I am the only one who has ever won a customer satisfaction award there!
Paul was full of empty lies, telling me he was going to reconsider firing me and then making me wait it out a week with no phone call was cruel, just to tell me, "Oh, I thought you knew." I am also a veteran of the Iraq war and have PTSD. I feel like he was discriminating against my disability of getting frustrated sometimes with the store manager and how he runs the store. I feel like I should start a lawsuit against Firestone for this and the disrespectful treatment from Paul.
The biggest downfall of this company is not going to be the treatment of customers but the treatment of employees. A house divided cannot stand and with district managers like this, I can believe it. Not once have I heard good job, thanks for all that you do, keep up the good work, but instead, they beat you down to try to get you to work harder. You can only beat a horse so long before he says, "that's enough, I'm done!" They destroy the morale in the store and then wonder why the numbers are bad. They underpay their people and expect them to do it all, even working through your lunch break, which I did several times for this company.
They would rather you have an empty stomach than an unhappy customer. I know a tech that has been there for 33 years and he gets paid $19 an hour when he is master ASE certified! He should be at least getting paid $25 or more an hour for his knowledge and time. But do you think Paul cares about that? I think not. I have also researched people's opinions of this company on websites like measuredup.com and it looks like all Firestones across the board are having the same problem and you ask yourself why? Maybe because the promise to care is being destroyed - because the promise to care for employees is not there. I wonder if the company would do things for their employees for morale and appreciation that you might see teammates going the extra mile for a customer because they like their job due to the positive atmosphere.
Durham district is being run by a district manager who does not know what really goes on in his stores and does not care about who the people really are that make his pockets fat. Do you think he knows me or that I have a wife and two beautiful kids that need their dad to work to eat and pay bills? Of course, he doesn't. He has a business to run and he has forgotten what it's like at the bottom of the ladder where he started. I think he is a perfect candidate for the show "Undercover Boss" so he can see what really goes on in the real world and get him back in the trenches where all the fighting is going on!
I have used Facebook as well to inform customers of my treatment and he has received phone calls from that too. I have always tried my best to give customers what they want and provide a positive experience to keep their business. I am not perfect. I have also had 5 suspension days that was a result from a complaint for a customer walking to their car who heard me talking with a tech at the end of a bay. That customer heard our conversation which included some cussing but I did not direct it at the customer. I was venting to a tech about how the manager was running the store and making people walk out by not honoring appointments.
PTSD seems to come out more with increased stress which was not a serious problem until the current store manager took over the store last year. What Paul is doing is not fair and seems to be a defamation of my character and who I really am. He is not concerned that he may be making a terrible decision based on false statements and discriminating against an army veteran. It's soldiers like me that fought for this country that allow him to sit in his office, drink his coffee, drive his nice cars and live in his big house without worrying about someone trying to take that all away and take his freedom!
I would love to know if there are still any real people that work for this company and know what it's like to be at the bottom, working paycheck to paycheck, who care about human beings and how they are being treated in this company, like a number on a time card - please let me know. I think Bill Cosby said it best when he said, "I don't know the key to success, but I do know the key to failure is trying to please everyone."

I’m very upset over an auto accident my daughter had a month ago. To begin with, she purchased her Excursion about 4 years ago. She has replaced a few years ago, but never had her spare checked, or replaced. It had always maintained air, etc. She had 6 children, from 11 years old to 13 months. Not long before her accident, she had to put her spare on due to a flat. Then last month, traveling to the oldest child’s softball game that was approx. 100 miles away from their home town (she had 5 of the 6 kids with her), her spare tire blew (the tread separated from the tire). She lost control of the car, and it rolled down mountain hill. She was ejected during the first roll, but the 5 children remained strapped in their car seats throughout the entire ordeal. Many, many people stopped (as she was between two mountain towns, in the middle of nowhere) and called for help. These 5 kids and my daughter were rushed to by emergency personnel very quickly.
Gratefully, I can report not one death... but the children, 13 months old, 3 years old, 5 years old, 6 years old, and the 11-year-old, were all quickly put into ambulances, and taken to 2 different hospitals; but not before they were traumatized watching their mother, who had been ejected, crying and freaking out. She was in so much pain; was put into a helicopter and flown to yet a different hospital. These hospitals… one was in their home town, the 2nd was 50 miles from home town, and the one she was flown to was 100 miles from home town. It was a very scary ordeal for all involved. And with the help of several family members, this little family was back together before night fall, all safely hugging each other, but not before countless stitches and staples and X-ray’s etc.
Insurance they had was only liability, but they did have medical option. So insurance did some investigating and found that the spare tire had been in a recall list some years ago, before they had even started about their excursion! Firestone just says it's only a problem when it's on the Explorer. Really, what kind of crap is that? And how dare the car lot sell this vehicle to them with a recalled tire. Worst part is the tires that they had replaced a few years ago were the same ones. No one wants to help these kids with Firestone to get a new car. With 6 kids obviously, they don't have spare cash around to just go buy a new one. I cannot believe they still have these recalled tires out there. And the stores are not even telling them they are recalls when they replaced their tires, and no one mentioned anything or they would have bought a new one for the spare as well.

I have Firestone tires as well on my 2005 Kia mini-van. I had my first blowout on a major interstate's off ramp. While traveling on I4, I began to hear a rumbling noise from the front end. I knew something was wrong. I was getting off on the exit and it started to get louder. All of a sudden I heard a loud bang. I immediately got off on to the shoulder to keep safe from incoming traffic. Sure enough, the tire had blown a huge hole in the side wall, obviously not repairable. I took the vehicle the next day to Tires Plus. My husband took it in. The gentleman behind the counter claimed that "your wife must have hit a sidewalk or something like that." Really?! On an Interstate, there are sidewalks? Wow, I didn't realize that. So long story short, after arguing with the guy, they prorated us a new tire, same Firestone tire of course.
Then, just last night, a noise from the front area of the vehicle again started. We were on the same interstate again heading home from a vacation at the beach for a week. I told my husband something wasn't right, and it sounds like the same noise from the blowout I had a couple months ago. Then again, the noise got louder, the van started to shake. I had him pull over immediately before the tire even blew. He looked in the side mirror and could see a huge bubble in the back left tire. As soon as we stopped, pop! The outer lining of the tire blew again. So, sitting on the interstate (very dangerous of course with my 7 year old son in the van), we sat for an hour waiting on AAA to come and fix.
Needless to say, we are headed to Tires Plus today to pitch a fit! I'm not waiting for the other two tires to blow with my family in the car. It's literally an accident waiting to happen! I'm getting all four new tires, even though keep in mind, one of them is only a couple months old, but it is another Firestone. But I don't care. It’s not worth our lives to have that thing on there! It’s absolutely ridiculous that a company as big as Firestone, continues to put out such crappy products.

On Dec. 15, 2011, my daughter and her husband were driving my mom's car when the car started bumping. They didn't know what it was and drove home. I had no clue and told her to go to Expert Tires where we bought the tires and see if anything was going on with the tires when she got off work (these are 70,000 mile tires and has maybe 25,000 miles on them). Before she got a 1/2 mile, the tire blew and ripped the front fender off and messed the hood up. She called me and we immediately called a tow truck.
We met her at Expert Tire in Anniston, AL maybe an hour after the incident happened. They told us we would have to buy another tire because they couldn't just replace it and give me the number to call and report the incident. I called and the first thing I was asked was if there were injuries. No, there wasn't but next time, there could be and worse. We were sent a form to fill out with all the receipts of what we had to do. In addition to buying a new tire at this day's cost, we had to pay the tow truck, pay for car repairs and pay to get the tire shipped to the company. We had to pay all expenses on this tire to ship it back to Bridgestone with pics of the car and estimates and photos and of course, the tire. We sent it at the first of February because it was expensive to ship, plus having to buy the tire again and pay to get the car fixed. We couldn't afford to do everything at one time.
On Mar. 3, 2012, I was in the car and driving on the highway - no potholes, no bumps, no speed traps and the opposite side tires started bumping. I immediately pulled in to Walmart and pulled to the tire area. The young man there told me at first sight of the tire that it was a broken belt. He looked at it after he had me roll back and come forth to him and said definitely a broken belt. I came home and got someone to take the tire off the car and took it to Expert Tire. They immediately replaced it because it was a production flaw (broken belt). This tire was bought at the same time the other one was. Today, Mar. 16, 2012, we got a letter from Bridgestone saying they were not responsible for the tire as they did their inspection and found it not to be defected and it was probably damaged by a pothole or some impact that caused it to have a massive explosion. They also stated that if we wanted our tire back, we could send shipping fee to them.
This is not a fair tactic. Two tires the same, manufactured one week apart. This is in no way against Expert Tires. They have done everything possible, but their hands are tied by corporate. I will never buy any Firestone tires again or anything produced by them. I will cut my credit card with them in half and never use it. I have Goodyears on a 1995 Camaro that has been there since 2005 and has a lot more miles than these and they are top notch. I will not make this mistake again. They should have reimbursed us for this incident that was caused by their product.

They are supposed to be a 60,000 miles tire but were worn out with only 30,000 miles. I went to the store where I purchased these tires Firestone on Plainfield Ave. in Grand Rapids, MI. I was given the replacement cost with the warranty adjustment and told they only had two; they would call when the tires came in. I stopped back in about a week later and was told about two days. This has now been going on for two weeks and I am still driving on worn out tires. I believe I am just getting the run around. I never had these issues with Discount Tire.

When I went to pay the bill, Bob said if I had taken it to Joe's Garage, they would have plugged it but it was company policy not to plug tires. He should have told me that before work commenced. I had to pay $100 for the tire that should have been plugged. I feel that this is less than honest. I should have been informed of company policy before the work began. I have a 2006 Chevy Trailblazer with 80,000 miles on it and have all my service work done at your Clinton, IA store. My wife took vehicle in at 77,000 in November to have a oil change, tires rotated, trans flushed ,wiper blades and alignment checked as we bought the life time alignment and they did a courtesy check and said every thing was ok. I was under car a week ago and noticed LF tire was worn out on inner edge. We were in Davenport last evening and saw store was open, so I went in and told Megan what was going on and she said she would get it in and have a tech check it out. Tech put on hoist and called me out to show me a bad RF upper ball joint and a loose LH outer tie rod end. My question was why wasn’t this brought to my attention 3,000mi ago? I have Firestone Destination Le that were installed with approximately 38,0000 miles, so I planned on seeing if there was any warranty left on old tires. Megan said she would prorate the 2 rear tires and would give me $100.00 off and fronts were worn because of bad front end parts so nothing she could do.
So today I went to my Clinton store and talked to Nicholas. He found my inspection sheet that said all 4 tires shown 5/32 of wear left and no bad front end parts, so I proceeded to tell him I had it checked in Davenport last night and was told and shown the bad ball joint and LH outer tie rod. Then Nick asked where car was when I was shown bad ball joint and I said it was on a hoist with the wheels about 4 feet off the ground. He said that was not the right way to check ball joints; he should have car on floor and a floor jack under lower control arm and wheel off the ground to check on car with torsion bar suspension. So he ran my car in and jacked it up with floor jack and said RF upper and lower were loose and LH outer tie rod is loose and said it would be a good idea to replace all 4! I used to be an ASE certified tech in a GM dealership for 27 years so I am going to replace all 4 ball joints myself and tie rod end. I asked Nick how these parts could have worn out in 3,000 since last inspection and he said it was from hitting potholes which I think is a lot of **!
I should have just walked out but thought I would ask if old tires could be prorated for a new set of 4. He said he would give me $100.00 for the front and $100.00 for the rear, which I thought was fair. So he printed a quote and signed it for $640.00. He said he had 2 tires in stock and other 2; said ok and left. I got home and looking over my quote and he gave me a price on 16" instead of 17"so I went back to the store and he gave me a price on p245/65r17 and it was $766.34, which is $120.00 more. I was not happy so I left! Got home to look at this quote and he only discounted 2 tires $106.23 and he has road hazard at $24.90 a tire at article # 7097782 when it should be only be $10.00 as per first quote and one from Davenport store article # 7040215. I really like Firestone tires but do not think I will be back to these stores if all they can do is take advantage of the customer! I have heard of your service centers selling people things they don’t need, but in my case it was a safety issue that should have been brought to my attention before it wore my tires out or steering broke and caused an accident! This in my opinion is poor business! I have a lot of friends ad co-workers that I would hate to tell of my bad experience with Firestone I would rather tell of a good one. Your immediate reply would be greatly appreciated.

I made another appointment today (11-16-11) and waited for over an hour for the service. The told me that their machine was previously not accurate, but they have it corrected. I asked the technician if he drove the car and if it still pulled. He said he repaired it and now it is not pulling. After 20 miles, the car is exactly the same as before—pulling to the right. When I called, they said to bring it back. My time is valuable and it is extremely difficult to for me to understand why I would allow a technician to repair my wife's car when he is not able to identify when her car is pulling to the right. I am not pleased with their performance, their ability to identify or repair a problem, and especially with their statement, "Bring it back!"
I have a rather sizable Corvette collection and was hoping to allow this Firestone store to work on some of my car needs. I don't ask for much, only to receive that for which I pay. I wouldn't allow them to touch my other cars.
At this point, I believe I have no other option other than to take my wife's car to a professional and pay again. If Firestone called themselves true professionals, they would pick up the check for me to take it to a company like B-Line (true professionals) where I now wish I would have gone in the first place. I am prepared to never hear from Firestone regarding my concern, and I am certain that my never returning will not be an influence on their annual income. However, I will never return! This guy put me on a "new" technician payscale where I have to work at least 48 hours a week to get a 40 hour paycheck. If I work 49 hours, then I get a 41 hour paycheck. Confused? The idea is that you get paid "flat rate". So, installing 4 tires, pays 36 minutes. If you do enough work, then you can book over 40 hours a week and get paid for it! The manager had refused to mention all of this and I had to hear it from the other new guy they hired.
The real problem you need to be aware of is that neither I or the other new guy signed up for that! We signed up and were hired on as hourly paid general service technicians. I had to replace my front tires today. They were not going to pro-rate stating that it was a neglect on my part, without even looking at the tires. How can it be neglect when they won't honor what I paid for? I went elsewhere for the two other tires and paid a fraction of the cost and their customer service was excellent. I still need an alignment and will try one more time at Firestone but I will probably have to go elsewhere and pay for it.
I paid way too much for what I originally got--tires with a 65,000 mile warranty that lasted only 38,000 miles and a lifetime alignment that they won't do. Something is wrong with this picture. In addition, the gal behind the counter knows nothing of customer service. Sure, I went in with a bit of an attitude but it is their job to calm the customer and try to make things right. At any rate, I bought the tires and at least one was defective. I had the car in to have them checked and then re-balanced, which may have helped. However, I put 2500 miles on them and found that over 65 MPH the shimmy was unbearable. I took the car back today to see if the problem could be found. However, they sold me horrible tires, ripped me off and now my 2006 Toyota Camry has issues with it. For instance, after getting all that fixed, the tires are swaying left to right. I contacted the manager, he did not help! Then I went again, he checked the car and said that the struts were leaking oil and needed it fixed. So I got them fixed somewhere else for 60% off the price they were trying to get me for.
Then the car is still swaying. I contacted the manager. He said, "I told you to get the better tires, sorry." He did not want to help me! Now my car is dangerous on the road. I spent so much money and no one wants to help me. Yelp, Yahoo, etc. have many negative reviews about these people. I found this out now. I wish I would have done research before. But this is not right. We do not deserve this. Please help.

On Tuesday, September 7th, I went to the Firestone store on 17th street in Costa Mesa, CA and purchased a set of 4 Bridgestone Potenza RE050A BL 255/45R18 99V tires. They were mounted, balanced and installed. The next day, September 8th I woke up to one completely flat tire and one low tire. I called AAA which changed the flat with my spare and limped my car back to the Firestone store. They claim their installer had installed the wrong valve stem cores on 3 of the 4 tires and thus the reason they leaked.
Then on September 9th, I awoke to a low tire. I drove to the Firestone store after work and he (Chris) said he tightened the valve stem cores and the TPMS valves. On September 11 (Saturday), I woke up with another low tire and drove to the store. Erik said he'd drop everything and get on my car when I came back from my 9 am appointment. I decided to wait until Monday, after work when they weren't as busy.
On September 13, I went to the store after work and they installed a TPMS service kit to see if that stopped the leaking problem. On September 14, I awoke with a low tire.and I went to the store a little after 3 pm. (also called Firestone customer service (800) 367-3872 and opened up a case with number 1224576) I went to get some coffee and came back around 4:45 and they had not taken my car yet. Kevin said they would get to my car next. So they called me at 5:30 to have me look at my tire and said the problem was my wheel as there was air leaking between the wheel and tire. He gave me the name of a guy to take my wheel to and put the spare on my left rear side of the car. I spent 3 hours waiting to do that with no result.
The next day, Wednesday, I dropped my wheel and tire off at Terry's Wheels in Santa Ana and on the way home, I discovered my right front tire was losing air and I didn't have a spare tire. I called Firestone customer service and told them to have a district manager or VP call me in a half hour or I would reverse the charges on my card to go elsewhere. I didn't hear in hour, so I headed to America's Tire in Costa Mesa.
On the way there, Issac, the Firestone district manager called me and I told him it was too late, I reversed the charge and was headed elsewhere. I told him he could pick up his tires at my office. He said he would not do that and I said I'd throw them out and I hung up on him. He called me back to say it was rude of me to hang up on him. I told him to go ** himself and hung up again.
Jovi at America's Tire in Costa Mesa got the leaking wheel off my truck, identified the problem, fixed it and replaced my wheel at no charge. I gave them $20 for their trouble. I then drove to Terry's Wheels to pick up my wheel and tire. He said he machined my wheel to remove any corrosion that may have prevented the tire from sealing on the rim. The next day, I went back to Americas Tire to have that wheel checked, balanced and installed on the left rear of my truck. They remounted the spare back under my truck bed. Jovi indicated that the wheel probably didn't need machining. Again I gave them $20 for their trouble.
I made 5 trips to the Firestone store in Costa Mesa and never left with tires that didn't leak. I spent 6 to 7 hours of my time at the Firestone store which was completely wasted. I spent an additional 2 hours at America's Tire to finally get the initial problem solved. On Saturday afternoon, at 5 pm, we got in my truck to go to dinner and the low pressure light came on. I checked all the tire pressures and all were at 35 lbs. I hard reset the system by pushing the button under the dash and holding it until the light stopped flashing, and the low tire pressure light stayed on. At this time, I have no idea if I am going to experience additional leaks with these tires. Only time will tell.

I went to get 4 new tires for my car. I wanted Pirelli tires and since they could not get those for me, I agreed to go with Firestone tires itself. When I went to the store and asked if I have options to choose from, he asked me what my problem was and to just go with what they suggest. That was absolutely rude. He charged me more and acted in a pathetic way, absolutely no respect at all. I was insulted and charged more than I think I should have been. It was severe emotional stress to be embarrassed in front of others.

When I purchased new tires at this location, I explained to the salesman that I wanted tires that were quiet and would give me a good ride. I had Wrangler tires which I liked. He told me that he has sold a lot of the Destination LE tires and has never had a complaint. I told him I looked up the reviews and there were both good and bad. I have had nothing but problems with these tires. At 65-70 MPH, there's a strong vibration up through the frame of my Honda Pilot.
My vehicle had been balanced four times in the first five months of ownership and it still vibrates until now. I have had the vehicle aligned with no improvement. Tire rotations have not made any difference either. When turning vehicle at these speeds, the vibration gets worse--this was on a review. I have the same problems. I have taken my car in for alignments and now they tell me that I need a tie rod. I took it to another shop and they informed me that I did not need that, and they were double dipping me on charges. I just got back from vacation and the road noise was so loud that it made it a very uncomfortable and very noisy trip for 12 hours each way. Even the passengers I took told me that it was ridiculous to pay that much for tires for them to have this bad of performance.

I went and got my tires rotated and alignment done in July. The next day, my car was still shaking when I drove it. So a friend of mine checked my tires and said the two on the front were getting uneven. So, I went back the next Friday, 7-30-10. I spoke to a guy there and told him my problem. He was so rude. They had wrote on my invoice that two tires were cupping but I didn't know what that meant. So the rude guy was telling me that it comes from your shocks, not good or not getting an alignment every 3,000 miles.
I asked him about the 40,000-mile warranty on the tires because I just had bought those 3 tires in the middle of 2009. He said the warranty didn't cover that. I said what! Why do I have a 40,000 mile warranty then? He was mumbling something but it didn't make sence. I turned it over to the district office and waiting on a reply. I told them I would never buy another tire from Firestone again if I didn't get the respond I wanted from them. I not going to pay another $350.00 for some tires and just bought those 3 tires last year, and no where near 40,000 miles.
They are just ripping people off with that fake warranty! I hope someone does something about them and how they're cheating people out of their hard earned money! I don't want to spend another 300.00 dollars on another set of tires!

About 4 years ago, we bought a 1995 Chevy Suburban 2500 series. Three days ago, we had a flat and put on the spare in the back. The spare was a Firestone Steeltex Radial A/T. Last night while traveling down Interstate 81 South approximately mile marker 222, we hit a piece of retread in the road. It completely stripped the tread off the tire, slamming the muffler into the undercarriage, denting the rear quarter panel, sensing a skid mark down the side of the truck, and busted the rear tail light.
I have never seen a tire come apart like this. Looking at the pictures on the computer of other Firestone tire failure issues, we are blessed in that no one was injured. I do agree that the quality of Firestone tires needs to be investigated further. Over a decade after the recall issued, there are still many safety issues. My husband, daughters, ages 9, 4 and 2, and I were in the vehicle at the time. To be traveling at 65 mph and have your tire disintegrate is not an acceptable situation by far. It completely stripped the tread off the tire, slamming the muffler into the undercarriage and denting the rear quarter panel, sending a skid mark down the side of the truck and busted the rear tail light. The muffler needs to be repaired after it was just replaced 2 weeks ago. It has a dent in it and the welds have been broken loose.

With less than 10k miles I had to have that same tire repaired again. This time they wanted additional money or they would not repair the tire. A similar priced tire from a competitor went 80k with no need of repair once. They eventually gave me an unmounted tire and my rim back, and tell me I have no warranty on this tire. In the past they have called and quoted prices that are then lower than what the final bill is. I can see no reason on earth to ever give them another dime, and will tell everyone I meet not to buy from them. I now have to find and pay someone to put the tire on the rim and balance it. From past experience I wonder how safe these tires are.

On Sunday, May 9, 2010, I noticed splits in three of four of my Bridgestone Firestone insignia tires. The splits were in the sides of the tires. We have purchased tires for all our vehicles for at least two decades from Firestone and had no problems. There is a 65,000 mile limited valid warranty and protect tire repair and replacement plan in effect. At this time, there are only 10,000 miles on the tires. Speedometer at the time of purchase was 185031; speedometer at time of "splits" discovery was 195,000.
This is the first bad set of tires that I have received from Firestone. On Thursday, May 13, 2010, I entered Firestone and a clerk by the name of Angel waited on me. I explained the tire splits and he examined the tires. We went back inside and he explained that he did not have replacement tires and could not get them immediately. He set me up with an appointment for Monday, May 17, 2010, and further stated, "I hope the tires will be in then."
I feel my time and gas were wasted today, May 13, 2010. I do further feel that they are trying to "get out of replacing tires" by putting it off and stalling. On the other hand, I'm trying to be fair and give Firestone enough time to fulfill the warranty and plan. The protect tire and replacement plan cost me $46.80 .

He said I had a bad tire, so I went back to the Firestone store where I got into a shouting match with employees after I told them what the alignment shop told me.
They indicated they will find out the problem and gave me an appointment the next day. I brought the auto in and about 2 hours later, they gave me a copy of their bad results on alignment problems my car had, although when I brought the car in for new tires, I had no pulling to the right.
I asked them if they test drove my auto and they said they did not need to. After they aligned the auto, I drove home and found that the auto still pulled to the right. As I was busy with my job, it took over a month before I could take it back. When I took it in for them check and/or fix, they said and showed me damage to the front rotors, an uneven wearing of them, which caused the squeaking.
When I asked if they were going to fix them since there was not this problem prior to them changing the brake pads, the salesman said they could, but it would cost $200 to $400 each due to the size of my truck. I asked the manager why I would have to pay for them to fix a problem that occurred immediately after they worked on my brakes and was not present at the time they changed the brake pads. He said, "It may have been there already." My reply to him was, "Don't you do a full inspection prior to any work and one after?" He agreed, but said there was nothing he could do. On Mother's Day 2006, my mother and stepdad were driving home from Austin to Houston in their Explorer Sport Trac. Travelling east on I-10 approximately 65 mph. I can verify all of this information, as I was travelling in front of them by about 1/4 mile. The weather was overcast and approximately 85-95 degrees. The tires were Firestone Wilderness AT. They had owned the truck since the initial well-known recall of the very same tires and did have them replaced. The back left tire threw the tread. My stepdad heard a loud boom sound and the truck began to swerve to the right. He tried to correct it and did for an instant before the truck slammed nearly head on into the guardrail.
The truck became airborn and landed upside down on the concrete barrier across the windshield and hood (top driverside diagonally to the front right tire area). They proceeded to skid down the side of the freeway upside-down until they came off the barrier and completed the flip of the truck. Thank God they were not thrown back into traffic. They escaped this potentially deadly wreck with bumps, bruises, scrapes, and a jaw condition for my mom. I have since been researching the incidence of this occurrence and found a theme in Firestone/Bridgestone products.
The tire that threw the tread was completely in tact with the exception that the tread was not on it. The tread, which I pulled from the road myself, appeared to be in pristine condition considering the 2 years of use on it. The insurance company's investigation confirmed that the tire did in fact fail. Firestone then took the tire to do their own investigation.
The claims handler told my mom that Firestone typically denies 90% of these claims due to improper inflation. I am under the impression that Firestone is settling out of court with a gag order attached since no follow up stories have been done on the occurrence of tire failure in the replacement tires. If this complaint deters anyone at all from purchasing these hazardous and potentially deadly brand of tires, I am glad. I just wish it would not have taken such an event to bring this to light.
The truck was totaled. My parents had to undertake a new car payment. And my mom has still not received the proper medical treatment for her jaw. In addition to the emotional distress it put our entire family through. The claim with Firestone is still pending.

He ended up fishtailing and going head on into the center divide with both air bags deploying and the front end of the car being totally destroyed. He was incredibly lucky and walked away from the accident with only some minor bruises and burns from the air bags. We live in So. California so the weather tonight was perfect, dry conditions for driving and, there was no debris on the freeway that would have caused a tire to blowout. The CHP agreed that the cause of the accident was purely a blown tire.
The physical consequence to my son is bruising, burns, and lung congestion from the airbag explosion. The economic consequence is that a perfectly good vehicle (a $38,000 Toyota 4-Runner)in excellent mechanical and physical condition has been completely destroyed in the accident

Regarding Firestone Steeltex RS4 225/R16 Load rated E tires: While traveling at 50 mph in our Class C RV the inner passenger side rear tire blew out. The steel belts whipped around and actually tore some of the RV's framework apart. The tire just blew - violently! The tire appeared sound; 60% of tread remained; there was no weathering degradation evident. The vehicle was kept inside away from weathering elements. In short there was nothing to indicate a potential problem. Tire pressure was at mfgr's specification. No noticeable road hazards were encountered. We do not feel safe at all with these tires.
Extensive structural damage to motorhome coach framework; 2 steel members torn off, two others severely bent and welds broken. Damaged tail pipe and supports. I purchased four new tires from this store. After two months a bubble appeared on the side of one of the tires. They said my driving had caused the problem; that it was not a defect in the tire. I had to replace my new tire with another new tire. A few months later I noticed another tire had a bubble on the sidewall. I let it go and it has gotten increasingly larger, so today I am going to go in to have it replaced. They said if it was not the tire I just purchased in Feb. then I would have to buy a new tire. I am thinking both tires were defective as this seems unusual to have the same problem.
I have now purchased five new tires in six months and may have to purchase a sixth tire today in order to insure the safety of my car.

I had to replace one of the Firestone Steeltex Radial R4S tires on my 2000 F250 truck at 44,151 miles and almost 3 years of use, not due to insufficient remaining tread but due to a bulge in the tread due to belt separation. I purchased one tire, with a small pro-rated discount and put the spare on the other wheel on that axle, moving the other 44k mile tire to spare duty. I was disappointed in the failure mode, but had gotten decent mileage from the tire. On July 29, 2006, at just over 78,000 miles (34k miles on these tires), on a trip from San Antonio, TX to Oklahoma, about 65 miles into the trip at about 9:30 a.m., the right rear tire blew.
Since I was going on a 1200 mile round trip, I had checked out the truck the night before leaving and found all the tires at 78 psi, just under the 80 psi max. I felt no weave or anything before the sudden rupture. The truck was loaded well within it's load capacity, with maybe 500 lbs of equipment in the bed. I maintained control and pulled the truck to the shoulder where I changed the tire, but the side panel of the truck bed is mangled, and the exhaust pipe was bent nearly closed by the ~3' flap of rubber and steel whipping around at highway speeds.
I went to the Firestone dealer today and they asked if I had bought the tire there. Turned out the one that blew was the one that was previously the spare, so they said I'd have to go through the 800 number. I have yet to call, but was disturbed by the dealership person's comments that Well, this tire is SIX years old. 6 years does not seem exorbitant for a tire lifetime to me, even being typical for a 60k mile tire getting 10k miles/year. And it has only been on the ground for 3 yrs. He also said that it had probably been underinflated. When I told him I had checked it just the night before, he said I might have run over something and in the process of it going flat, it blew. There was no motion as of a tire going flat. He was very quick with his [I suspect] standard list of excuses though.
Tire lost. Estimated $1500 of damage to the truck, not including tire replacement.

I mentioned my worries about the tires to the salesman and he assured me that the GMC Firestones had no problems-they were a better quality than Ford's version. After 2 massive tire failures at interstate highway speeds, I replaced them with a different brand.
I later purchased a new 2002 Ford E-350 similar van, which as luck would have it, had the same type tire in a slightly narrower size as this van has dual rear tires. On March 3, 2006, at approximately 1:00 p.m., my wife and I were traveling northbound (I was driving) on I-95 in Martin County, Florida in our 1999 Honda CRV. The weather was clear with unimpaired views. I was traveling the posted speed limit and there was no visible debris or obstacles in the roadway. Approximately 1-2 miles before the St. Lucie Blvd. exit, I began to notice what seemed to be a very slight “tremor” or “vibration” in the steering column. As my vehicle traveled further, the tremor very gradually increased. I thought it was possibly a wheel alignment issue.
About 2 miles further, the tremor had increased even more and I slowed my speed. At this time, about 1-2 miles past the St. Lucie West Blvd. on ramp, there was a loud bang and I looked in the rear view mirror to see large pieces of tire debris in the air near the rear of our vehicle. I slowed to maintain control of the car and several vehicles swerved sharply to avoid our vehicle and the tire debris. I pulled onto the shoulder and upon examination found the right rear tire (facing forward) had completely lost all of its tread.
The Bridgestone/Firestone Dueler 684 tire was still inflated and I was able to drive slowly to a tire dealership on St. Lucie Blvd. and purchase a new tire (copy of invoice attached). At no time prior to the incident did my vehicle strike any object or roadway debris. The subject tire was part of the original package when we purchased the CRV new in 1999, was attached as the “spare” tire and up until March, 2005, had never been used. We had this Bridgestone spare tire installed on the right rear wheel in early March of 2005 when a tire went flat. We subsequently bought four new replacement tires (invoice copy attached) but left the Bridgestone on the right rear wheel as it was new and virtually unused at that point.
Therefore, at the time of the recent incident one year later on March 3, 2006, the tire had approximately 12,000 miles of use. Our local Honda technical service manager, the tire technician in Port St. Lucie and a local Firestone/Bridgestone tire technician all agreed upon examination of the tire and the damage to our vehicle that the tire tread separation was in all probability due to the subject tire being defective.
Right rear of Honda vehicle damaged, wheel well damaged, side light broken. Estimate to repair - $1,200 - $1,700

I purchased some tires from Firestone with the Road Hazard Warranty and front end alignment just before I left for Kuwait, so my wife would have could drive safely while the Army sent me elsewhere. Everything worked out great. I was hoping to do a lot more business with Firestone in the future. But I doubt it - because:
1. When I bought the service and four tires in October of 2002 I did not realize that Firestone put 3 tires of one style on my car and 1 tire of a different style on it($625.84). I thought they all were suppose to be the same..? When I went in to get a flat repaired on 5 July 2003 at Firestone, they informed me of this. I called the Firestone office(got the number online) and the individual on the phone just said what do you want me to do about it?.
2. Then I went in to Firestone on 1 June 2004 to get a leak in a tire taken care of and got a surprise. I was informed that 1 of my tires was a different size. I was told by one of the service members that this could cause the car to pull to one side. So I asked them to put on the correct size - it was also the tire with the leak ($102.15). Before I left I went out to my car and looked at all the sizes of the tires on my car to ensure that they were all the same size. Then I called the number from the Firestone homepage and discussed this. The individual on the phone informed me that the dealer had informed her that I had put some cheap second hand tire on my car. Which I never did. Firestone was the only company to touch ny tires. I was very upset and will not do business with them ever again.
Somewhere around $800 for crappy tires that did not last near the mileage they advertised them at. Even though I kept the pressure checked and rotations done. So the facts behind the tire failure are as follows. Car: Honda Odyssey Minivan. Temperature Today: 103F. Tire tread totally separates from tire and leaves the sidewalls intact. Tire has less than 30K miles on it and is less than 18 months old and was purchased in 2003. Car seemed to have a vibration within 100 miles of catastrophic tread failure.
After this experience I will be changing all four tires at the other tire store and never again allow Firestone tires on my vehicle. I have owned 10 other cars and in college I drove tires until they were bald or just couldn't hold air anymore, but in none of these cases did my tire ever fail and result in my car going out of control. I lost control of the truck for a moment, going into the left lane trying not to oversteer. Finally coming to a stop. As the damage was significant and obviously from abrupt tire failure, I contacted Bridgestone to file a claim. The Bridgestone rep. advised me that they would send a claim form to me. He asked me to get two estimates and mail them along with the tire to BFNT LLC, 1102 Appleton, Nashville Tn. I mailed the claim.
In the past I have had some ringing in both ears. The ringing would come and go. Shortly after the accident I noticed the ear ringing was a lot more pronounced but assumed it would get back to normal. It has not and is difficult now to tolerate. Within a week, which is quite amazing, I received Bridgestone's answer to my claim. According to their letter they had examined the tire and I had apparently hit a "pothole, object, curb or something else which was revealed by rupture in the tire". Therefore they denied the claim. They also stated in the letter that the tire would be scrapped in 21 days if I did not ask for it in writing.
I asked them to mark on the tire exactly where the impact occurred (knowing that was probably impossible as there wasn't much left of the tire) and send it back. I received the tire but it of course was not marked. Several days past and I wrote Norma Davis, Paralegal to review the case and also let her know that I had actually received damage to my hearing due to the loud noice of the explosion that night. In November of 1999 we purchased a 2000 Ford Expedition from the Ford dealership in Corning, California. The vehicle was sold with Firestone P255 70R16 tires. Due to the Firestone recall publicity we contacted our Ford dealership to inquire whether our tires were included in the Firestone recall. We made this call several months after we purchased the Expedition. The dealership told us that it is only the 15-inch tires that are being recalled and that our 16-inch models are not included in the recall. Consequently, we made an assumption (oops) that our tires were safe and we took no further action regarding the tires.
On Saturday, November 12, 2000 my wife, our 2-year-old foster daughter, and our 9-year-old son were travelling southbound on Interstate 5 between Corning and Willows, CA at about 70 mph. The left rear tire failed. My wife was very fortunate that it was a rear tire that failed. She also did all the right things to bring the vehicle to a safe stop. Based on the nature of the damage to the tire, both the tow truck driver and the CHP officer who re
sponded to the incident felt the tire's failure was not due to a "normal blowout." The damage is "neat" and is located in the area where the tread meets the sidewall. The tread appears to have completely separated from the sidewall in a 360 degree tear on the outside wall of the tire. We purchased the vehicle new from the dealership just under a year prior to the incident. There was only about 13,000 miles on the vehicle when the tire failed.
A few days after the incident I called Firestone's 800 number and described the incident. I also explained that we have the 16-inch tires. The person who took my first call said that he could not tell me if they were recalled tires without knowing the exact number and DOT number on the inside wall of the tire. I asked the person to hold while I got the information off the tire. By the time I returned to the phone with the information the Firestone representative had disconnected. I called back and spoke with another representative. After describing what happened again, I gave her the tire size as requested (P255 70R16), but she apparently did not need the DOT number as the first representative had requested.
After asking if we had suffered any bodily injury or property damage, the Firestone rep told me that since the tire is not recalled "there is nothing" she can do for me. She then informed me that my only option was to contact Consumer Affairs. A few days after we spoke with Firestone we chose to remove the remaining Firestone tires from the vehicle. Since the damage seemed identical to that described with the recalled 15-inch tires, we had absolutely no confidence -- and no assurance from Firestone -- that the tires were safe. We felt we had no choice but to replace the tires at our own expense. We congratulate Dave for replacing the tires. We suggest he sue Firestone in Small Claims Court for a partial refund. It is interesting to note that it is most often the left rear tire which fails on the Ford models in question. This lends some credence to the notion that Ford still has some explaining to do.

I am writing in regards to my 97 F-250 pickup we bought 10-97. With only 20K miles on the original Firestone tires we had to replace these Steeltex AT tires 235/85/16 because of steel cords showing and literally falling apart. I know these are not the ones being recalled at the moment, but I feel it is only a matter of time until they will be. We are out the expense of buying 2 replacement tires of the same exact kind that were orignally put on and then they too were defective tires.
We then went with a totally different brand of tires and have had much better quality of tires.
My complaint is that Firestone let us down when we needed them to replace these original tires under their warranty and all they deemed necessary to do was pro-rate the tires at an out-pocket expense of $250.00. Well, my husband thought this was unexceptable seeing how we had paid 30K for this pickup. So for the sake of principle we ended up buying 2 more tires and then another full set of a different brand as to not give Firestone any more of our hard earned money. We were very disappointed in Firestone thinking they did not have any obligation to fulfill such as standing behind their warranty.
Ford dealership said it was out of their hands since the tires were separate from the vehicle, and Firestone did nothing to satisfy us. I guess we will wait and watch for the 16" tires to start being recalled. Although Ford told me that that would not happen until next year.
We were out over $1000.00 worth of tires and of course the lost income. We own semi trucks and one was down for two full days with us trying to get this corrected. It was very disheartening to have paid so much money thinking we had bumper to bumper warranty and to be told sorry, but not sorry enough to take care of these tires. We are not independently wealthy by any means and having your own business has taken its toll on us so we have to watch every penny. We were not setting an account aside to allow for new tires on a new pickup.
