About EasyCare Warranty

EasyCare offers a range of extended warranty products (the company refers to them as vehicle service contracts), including guaranteed asset protection plans (GAP) and coverage for commercial vehicles. Though the company’s online reviews are all over the map, its range of services is one of the most diverse in the industry. You cannot purchase EasyCare’s warranties online or by phone; you must purchase one through one of its partner dealerships.

Pros
  • Diverse range of warranty plans
  • Offers several other vehicle protection products
  • Plans can be transferred to a new owner
Cons
  • Overwhelmingly negative customer reviews
  • Quotes not available online
  • No sample contracts

Our editor’s take

EasyCare may be a good option if you are looking for a company with positive industry ratings and an array of product offerings and additional services. You can only purchase an EasyCare warranty at a participating dealership in most cases, which makes it difficult to recommend the company over more accessible options online. Additionally, the dealer model often results in higher prices due to commissions and other factors that include wrapping the cost of the warranty into an auto loan, so you may want to check with other companies to see if you can get a better rate.

About EasyCare

EasyCare has been in business for over three decades. As an extended auto warranty provider, it offers a range of protection and financial services for vehicle owners. The company works with dealer-partners, as well as commercial retailers, to sell a range of protection products. Consumers can get theft protection products, including etching of high-risk vehicle components like the catalytic converter, appearance protection services, tire and wheel coverage and paintless dent repair coverage.

EasyCare also offers RV protection and can provide guaranteed asset protection (GAP) plans for some vehicles. GAP coverage protects you from financial losses if your insurance company deems your vehicle a total loss and you owe more than it’s worth. Many lenders require this coverage, though it’s often offered in-house by the bank.

EasyCare availability

EasyCare warranties are primarily limited to dealer purchases, though the company does offer coverage to individuals for some vehicles that meet mileage and age requirements. Outside of that, the vehicle service contracts are largely available to buyers with eligible purchases. Unlike some warranty providers, EasyCare offers coverage for gasoline vehicles, lifted and medium-duty trucks and electric vehicles, with specific benefits for each.

The company’s commercial offerings include protection for vehicles used on route work, construction, hauling, farming and ranching. That said, the company’s options do not extend to rideshare vehicles or taxis, snowplow vehicles or emergency first responders.

EasyCare coverage and plans

EasyCare’s warranty options include four primary plans, ranging from coverage for more basic powertrain coverage, including EV components, to more comprehensive coverage that includes vehicle technologies, EV cooling components and EV high-tech or electrical systems.

That said, EasyCare’s list of exclusions includes many industry-standard items. Don’t expect coverage for damage caused by an accident or act of nature, aftermarket parts, carpeting and interior upholstery or wear items like brakes and windshield wipers. The company also doesn’t cover squeaks or rattles, lights, convertible tops, paint and other cosmetic parts.

EasyCare also offers specific coverage for electric vehicle components, including the drive motor and battery, gear reduction/transfer case, cooling system, braking and other high-tech/electrical systems.

EasyCare coverage limits

EasyCare makes it exceedingly difficult to get a straight answer on almost any topic, both by phone and online. That said, the company likely follows industry standards for limitations, including mileage, age and usage. Those limits are especially important if you don’t want to purchase warranty coverage through a dealer, as EasyCare’s policies are even tighter for individual vehicles. When we called, the company said it offers a limited number of policies to individual owners and focuses most of its efforts on dealer sales.

EasyCare cost

Since EasyCare’s warranties are primarily offered at dealerships, it’s difficult to get a quote without shopping for a car. Some customers have written about their experience with the company online, sharing that prices range from $1,200 for a five-year/100,000-mile TotalCare warranty to $3,750 for some vehicle models.

While those prices are largely in line with what we see from other major players in the industry, EasyCare’s dealer sales model could mean that you pay more in the end. Wrapping the cost of an extended warranty into an auto loan makes it easier to hide markups, and EasyCare pays a commission or partnership fee to the dealer for selling its products. This cost generally gets passed down to the buyer.

EasyCare does offer plans with zero deductible, but it’s unclear if that applies to all warranties or just the entry-level coverage option it advertises.

EasyCare benefits

EasyCare offers a range of benefits to its customers, including some that other companies don’t. Every plan comes with benefits, such as roadside assistance, tire and wheel road hazard protection, rental car reimbursement and trip interruption coverage.

EasyCare policies

EasyCare warranties are transferable, and customers can get the process started online with a $50 fee. While information is scant, you might be able to cancel your contract within 30 days for a refund, though the dealer purchase model could complicate those efforts. Canceling after that period will likely result in a prorated refund. EasyCare will not cover damages to your vehicle caused by theft, acts of nature or abuse. Modifications are also not covered, including nonfactory audio and technology components.

EasyCare FAQ

How does EasyCare work?

EasyCare sells its warranties primarily through dealerships when you buy a vehicle. While repairs can happen at any licensed mechanic, it’s recommended that you take your vehicle to the selling dealer, if possible. If your insurance approves your claim, EasyCare will pay the repair shop directly for all expenses minus your deductible.

How do I file a claim with EasyCare?

You can file EasyCare claims on the company’s website or by phone. The diagnostic process is especially important, as the few reviews available online cite many instances of denied claims due to a noncovered breakdown.

Is EasyCare legit?

EasyCare is legit and has been around a long time, but its spotty reviews, limited online presence and tight sales model should guide you to research other companies before settling for one of its policies.
