We bought a 2010 Dodge Caliber in 2012 with 35,000 miles on it. First the battery goes out simple fix. The switch on the driver door's windows would go out intermittently, until it went out completely. The car only had 100k miles on it when the transmission went into safe mode suddenly on an interstate. The speed of the car went from 75 mph to 30 with no warning. Thankfully the 18 wheeler that was behind me was able to swerve to miss me. Took it to the dealership. They stated nothing was wrong with it. Just for peace of mind took it to a transmission shop. Sure enough it was the transmission going out. I did not waste any time trading that POS in. I will never own another Dodge!!! This problem needs to be fixed before someone gets killed!!

I bought a '07 caliber in '06 w/ 28 miles on it. Didn't have major issues until around 60k miles - the ball joints and lower control arms needed replaced, then as another person stated as I was backing out of my drive, the ball joint and axle snapped w/o warning. I've had numerous plastic pieces break from the rear hatch door to my washer fluid hoses and the liner on the outside of my car. Alternator went out right before 100k and now at 112k the transmission completely went out w/o warning. Not to mention every part seems to be dealer only and cost a fortune compared to parts you can purchase off brand. I will never buy a dodge/Chrysler/jeep vehicle ever again. Also let me add, I've always been up to date on my scheduled maintenance and do not consider my car as "drove hard".

2nd owner of 2008 Caliber. Recently quit running, towed to mechanic who thought timing belt. As he was researching parts, he found many recalls & told us he couldn't touch it until recalls were fixed. We needed a car right away, so towed the caliber back home. Now still paying for a "dead horse". Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Major Issues: Replaced CVT Transmission at 53,000 miles. Sealed transmission that CAN'T be "worked on"... although the manufacturer says to service every 75,000 miles, have your CVT fluid levels checked at every oil change!!! IMPERATIVE!!! CVT fluid is not standard ATF and has a lower boiling point!!!!!! Coupled to a weak 4cyl engine, means your transmission is CONSTANTLY over exerting itself!!!
Front/Rear Ball Joints keep going out, turns out the car is actually built too heavy for its own support!!! Thermostat housing is plastic and sits just over the transmission. Plastic will warp, leaking coolant on to transmission. Replace plastic housing, BUT WHEN YOU DO, use Air Craft Grade silicon gasket maker!!! This is very important... it is the only way to deflect heat at the seal between the plastic housing and metal engine!!!!!!!! Conventional auto gasket RTV or silicon WILL NOT WORK!!!!!!! Dodge uses DEXCOOL (Orange color coolant) ABANDON AT ONCE!!!!!!!!!! Flush cooling system and use conventional green coolant!!!!!!!!! DEXCOOL CLOGS COOLING SYSTEMS...

I have had a lot of problems with the car from the transmission to it having no crank, no start, we have tried everything to get it to run the dodge dealership - told me it was going to be a $99.99 and if I have to replace the key it's $240 for it to be done.

Chrysler sent us a letter stating that our make and model of vehicle may experience defective front and rear crossmembers, and they have extended the warranty to cover premature corrosion. At their suggestion, I took my car into their service department and was told the front crossmembers would need to be replaced due to this issue. However, they charged me $171.00 because they had to break the corroded stabilizer links in order to replace the crossmembers. I would not have been out of pocket for this repair if their crossmembers had not been defective, but they refused to refund my money. My rear crossmembers will need to be replaced next year, and they will probably charge me again. I think this is very unfair - I should not be out of pocket because of their defective product. This is not a repair that I would have needed to pay for if not for their defective crossmembers. I think this warrants legal action. I'll bet there are others affected by this also.

I bought my 2007 Dodge Caliber in 2006. It was the STX with 1.8-liter engine and manual transmission. Like Michael from Michigan, I am surprised at some of the responses. I put 331,000 miles on my Caliber. Early on, I had a problem with the alternator. Replaced it and the battery at about 65,000. The alternator went out again at about 200,000. Replaced it and the battery. Otherwise, I have had minimal repairs on this vehicle (tie rods, ball joints, etc. but the roads are terrible here in NE Ohio). The clutch on this car finally gave out at 229,000 miles. Had it replaced and still keep the car around as a spare. Still has the original exhaust system. All in all, the car doesn't owe me anything.

Transmission started making noise that I had never heard before. Checked by mechanic who said that it needed to be replaced. Cost approx $3800. Mileage is only 62,000. Have owned several cars, some used and even at over 120,000 miles, none ever needed a transmission repaired, let alone replaced. Researched online and found many people with the same problem with their Calibers and no help from Chrysler. My mechanic talked to the dealer who admitted that they have replaced a lot of these transmissions. Have not been able to find any recall info on them. Does anyone know of any class action suit against Chrysler? I would like to see them pitch in and help instead of leaving car owners to deal with what appears to be a defective product.

I purchased my 2007 Dodge Caliber in 2007 with only 18,000 miles on it. I drove that car for about two years when I started to have problems with it slowing down. Apparently, there was some kind of issue with the transmission that made the car think it was overheating when it wasn't....which triggered a safety response of slowing the car down and eventually stopping. The only remedy that seemed to work was turning on the heat full blast...but that was unbearable in the summertime. I took this car to three dealerships and the only remedy I received was to purchase another transmission which I refused to do. I contacted Dodge corporate office to complain and they assigned to me a case manager who was pretty much useless. Dodge refunded to me the money I spent in diagnostics...but that's all. They never offered to fix this issue and they never conducted an investigation to determine the origin of the problem. So good luck to you all...try calling the corporate office....maybe if there are enough reports then maybe they will issue a recall or something. As for me, I bid good riddance to that car...and have vowed to never purchase another Dodge vehicle for the rest of my life.

2007 Dodge caliber. Purchased as a dealer owned car from Moss motors in South Pittsburgh TN. Replaced the alternator at 62,451 miles (a wretched ordeal in itself). Vehicle now has 101,013 miles on it. The drivers side CV axle and the ball joint broke as I was backing out of my drive way. I had just gotten home with my daughters and had to run back to the store. I am very thankful that it did not happen going down the road. I called the dealership and ask them about recalls because I had seen 97 other complaints about the same issue. No recalls at this time... so I called dodge to report this formally and see if maybe there was something they knew. They claimed to have NO KNOWLEDGE of this issue! I take my car to a local repair shop and what do I see but yet ANOTHER 2007 dodge caliber same year with the same problem! Then the owner of the facility takes me to look at my car, behold it is about to do the same thing on the passenger side as well!!! I am lucky that this played out the way it did but dodge has failed me like I never thought possible and this needs to be shared so no one gets hurt.

I bought this about a year ago with 50k on it. It has run great until recently at about 70k. Tranny started slipping and skipping at first a little then more and more. At Dodge/Chrysler in Clairemont they were very reluctant to honor the warranty which ended at 74k. I complained so they did a quick fix, said everything was perfect and now that the warranty on the tranny is expired it started slipping and suddenly on Thanksgiving the tranny won't allow any drop down to lower gears. So now it chugs uphill in drive and I can't even downshift. I know it's gonna blow. It's hard for me not to suspect that the dealer did a quick fix to get me past the expiration date to avoid the responsibility of paying for a much bigger fix. Shoulda got a Toyota. Sigh.

2008 Dodge Caliber - The battery is under warranty still so they required me to bring in the battery so they could check it before giving me a new one. They said the battery was fine however the AMA tow truck driver tested it prior to towing my car away and it did not have full voltage so I was lied to. Also going to have the mechanic check it in the morning and then will call Chrysler again. Also will know tomorrow if it is indeed the computer that caused my car to die. If so a battle begins. Just finished paying off the car and had regular maintenance done by Chrysler for 6 years. I expect a vehicle to last much longer than 6 years. Will post again tomorrow.

But the pain are the air conditioning leaking, the non working electric mirrors, the rear wiper not working (changed the motor, but it's probably the switch...) and the freaking leaking tires... Always damn tire leaking... Probably from the valves I've replaced last year without fixing the problem. I guess I can't complain after reading the other people's issues with that piece of crap car.

The car has shut down 3 times since I purchased it and cannot go see my ill mother reason I bought a newer car that would be reliable. The mechanic told me to sell the car as it will continue to have issues all the time. Went over to the dealer and they would not take the car as a trade-in even though they sold it to me. Since I have this payment and still owe 9038.00 on the car they sold me a car with 128766 miles, needs a paint job, grille replaced and shifter lights are out. Caliber only has 54392 miles on it and my other car has 186000, no repairs except regular stuff.

Just assisting, I had the same experience as Linda from Pennsylvania. The car would stop as we were getting up to speed. After months of getting it to go again we finally figured out that it was the Throttle body sensor. Bad thing was that it is built in to the throttle body so you had to replace the whole thing. Was a little expensive, but I haven't had that happen since then. I also had to replace both control arms on it, so be careful, mine broke (right front whole wheel was barely attached). And I did research and this is a common issue, but at least I could help you fix one issue. The dealership wanted me to bring it in which tends to be really expensive, so a friend let told me what it was.

I purchased the car in 2007. The car was ok until a year after I purchased it. My battery kept going dead every other day; I had to put it on a charger. I took the car to the Dodge dealer in Kennewick, Washington and explained to them the problem that I had with the car. They did their inspection and told me that they could find nothing wrong with the car; yet they handed me a bill to pay. I contacted the Chrysler-Dodge people in their home offices in Michigan explaining the problem I was having; they said that they would call me back.
When they called I was told that their expert would notify the dealership that I took my car to. I was told that another appointment would be setup at the dealership and that the problem would be fixed. That was 16 months ago and nothing has been done. I have installed my 3rd battery and second alternator and still nothing has been done. I did some research of my own and was told that the problem was probably a parasitic drain caused by one of the modules not shutting off and draining my battery.
I was told that the car just like your own home computer would have to be rebooted to fix the problem; thus far nobody it seems from the corporate offices to the dealership gives a damn about fixing the problem; and by the way I have to make a 100-mile round trip to get to the closest dealership just to get the car looked at. I do not know what to do at this point; Michigan flat out lied to me about getting the problem resolved. Is there anybody out there who can give me any suggestions about what I need to do to get Michigan and the Dodge dealership off their butts and HELP ME?
I have never been treated this way! My patience is gone and all I have now is anger. I am only asking that my car be fixed or to replace it with another Dodge Caliber of the same year. I am tired of having to replace batteries and alternators; I also do home health care and I need reliable transportation. Any suggestions and help would be very much appreciated; i.e. phone numbers to call or addresses to write to. Thank you.

2012 Caliber - around 18,000 miles started hearing suspension noises. After the first two attempts of dealer not hearing or finding nothing I finally got the car to make the noise. They replaced rear struts and rear control arms. Not longer after noises returned, they readjusted things, and noise returned. Just got it back out of the garage again, service manager said heard a noise in the front but everything is good. I gave you a courtesy of spraying all of your bushings and no longer hear the noise. He refused to give me an invoice stating what he did, instead gave me an invoice that said there were no problems found. I refused to sign it and told him that is not what he told me on the phone. Needless to say the spray on the bushings is only masking a problem that will return just as soon as the spray dries up. Took several pictures of all the areas that were sprayed and sent them off to the lemon law attorney. Odd if there was nothing wrong, why bother spraying? I only have 250 miles left before the bumper to bumper is gone crossing my fingers the spray dries before then.

I have a 2010 Dodge Caliber. I bought it when it was 2 yrs old. Now that it's 4 yrs old, a major issue has started. My car "jumps" as I drive. It's a very slow take-off, but not one that revs up the rpm and then catches gear. That's the experience in the past with my Chrysler van I owned. The transmission went out in it. This Caliber's problem is strange. It can be taking off or it can be in mid-drive (with no jump or slow down in speed). I can barely make it up a small hill. Okay, it's a 4 cylinder and I get that. However, it should have some power. It did when I first got it. So this "jumping", as I call it, is almost as if it's trying to get gas or switch gears or something. This has been going on over a month. I have tried different gas just in case, and also put a gas treatment in. It's not the gas. I'm very frustrated with it.
My dad is a mechanic and he put the diagnostic test on it. It has no bad codes for the engine, so it's not that. It did have 2 codes come up for the transmission. He cannot work on it because it only has 68,000 miles on it and I'm still covered under 100,000 mile warranty. So I had to take it to the Dodge place I bought it from. I had to pay a deductible for a rental car, which is unfair I think. They have since put in a $3,500 transmission. I took off out of their parking lot, and it's not fixed. In fact, I think it's worse. Talk about frustration! I took it back to them, got yet another rental car, and here I am. They have no clue what to do with it now. Anyone have this issue??

Most days were warm/hot (mid-80s, but also once low70s). No pattern that I can identify. Any others having similar issues? The car has also shut down during rain on 3-4 occasions. Each time has been at stop light, rather than while driving (which apparently others unfortunately have had to deal with). But it is unnerving when car shuts down (especially at night) and dealer could never recreate nor identify nor fix problem.

The car will lose all power while driving, almost at a complete stop. The first 2 times were at night. (The second one, during a complete downpour.) And since I lose ALL POWER, meaning the hazard lights won't even work, I have to GET OUT OF THE CAR and alert other drivers so they won't hit my car!!! HOW DANGEROUS!!! The first "fix" was to do a complete computer system re-flash, $300. The second "fix" was to replace the Transmission Control Module, $600. Three days after the second "fix," I'd driven not even 100 feet from a parking spot, turned the radio up, and BAM! Total power loss again!!! The 3rd "fix" will run upwards of $1500!!!
The worst part about all of this is that DODGE KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM!!!! This is caused by the TIPM which has been placed in an area where it receives constant damage from water and dirt on the road, causing corrosion, and then causing FAILURE!!! There are 100's of others out there who have experienced/are experiencing the SAME PROBLEM and Dodge has not issued a recall and they won't do a single thing to fix it!!! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!!! If this problem were to occur on a highway or in a major intersection, SOMEONE COULD DIE!!!
I've called Dodge to request a recall or for financial assistance and they won't do ANYTHING! When will Dodge realize the severity of this problem? When someone DIES????? I plan on getting in contact with everyone I can who has or is having this same problem. If enough people will get behind this, we can get a lawyer involved and MAKE DODGE PAY!!! These vehicles are completely unsafe and I'm no longer comfortable driving it, even if I could!!! If you or anyone you know has or is experiencing this same problem, reach out to me. Someone needs to do something about this and that someone is Dodge!!!

CVT was replaced at the Dodge Dealership with a brand new one - total cost $3400.00, approximately 83,000 miles on the vehicle when this occurred. At 115,000 miles and 22 months later, the transmission overheats on long Hwy trips in the summer and the car shuts down the power train and this is dangerous. My son had to swing onto an exit ramp and stop his trip in order to allow the Transmission fluid to cool before he could continue his trip. This could cause an accident. NHSA should investigate this problem and force Dodge to fix it or buy back the vehicles. I also had to replace the A Frame ball joint on this car. I have driven MOPAR vehicles for the past 38 years and I am amazed that my 1990 Dodge Dynasty has better quality control in the engineering than was used in this vehicle with modern technology. I brought the Dodge Caliber SXT 2012 Nobel brand new out off the showroom. I drive around the city I live in and on the motorways only. By the second log book service at 24000km, there was a front end right noise which no one seemed to have picked up and the rear shock absorbers were leaking. The rear shock absorbers were replaced but the front end noise was still there. Eventually 4 months after the rear shock absorbers were replaced, a Dodge mechanic came for a drive with me, heard the noise. By this stage (and it's only about 31000 km on the clock), the front end noise that began at the front right was now across the entire front end off the car.
It was advised by the Dodge mechanic after inspection (that is leaving the car in for 5 hours), the front shock absorbers needed to be replaced and the swing bar needed to be replaced. So the car went back in to get FIXED. The front shock absorbers were replaced and the rubbers on the strut were replaced (they did not replace the swing bar as it was noted to be replaced). ONE DAY later, the front end noise started to come back faintly especially going over speed humps. By day 3, the noise was back so now the car has to go back for the THIRD TIME for repairs. But now there is a new front end noise as well.
This car has just over 31000 km. Absolutely appalled with this car. This is the first new car I have ever owned in my life and at $25,000 it is absolutely terrible. I have always owned second hand cars and never had this amount off problems. My friend has a Suzuki Swift old model with over 360000 km and does not have this amount of problems. There must be a fault with this model like the 2007 model. Please comment if anyone else has these problems with the 2011/2012 model.

I purchased this car in June 2006 and it is the 2007 model. The first year of the car was fine however when it hit 20,000 miles the car literally started to fall apart. The blower motor failed, then the master cylinder failed, then the booster cylinder failed, then the back up computer failed leaving my car going about 5 mph, then the entire computer system failed while I was driving and going 51 mph which caused a 3 car crash and the almost totaling of the Caliber. Since the accident I have had to change the struts and ball joints. Lately, I have experienced issues where if I fill the car up with gas it stalls out and when I turn the air conditioning on it stalls out.
Cosmetically all 4 of my doors always fill with water and do not drain, the metal coating on the door handle is peeling off and literally will cut your hand when you open the door. The black located on the doors around the windows is now cracking and coming off and my car is garage kept at work and at home. The plastic is also treated with under armour every month. Lastly, my steering wheel controls have never worked since buying the car and I have taken the Caliber in to get the controls fixed 28 times when the car was under warranty and to 4 different dealerships and each of them would not fix it. This car is by far the worst car I have ever owned and my family has owned Dodge vehicles for over 40 years; however after this car I will never purchase another Dodge again. I will be getting rid of this car very soon and buying a Honda.

I changed my Firestone tires at 90,000 miles. I changed the spark plugs and coil packs at 110,000. 2 ball joints and 2 tire rod ends at 100,000. I just changed the battery and rear stabilizer bar and I will be changing all 4 struts this weekend but I now have 175,000 miles on this car and it is 7 1/2 years old. I did put a new clutch in it at 170,000 but my daughter drove this car a lot over the last 3 years (15-18 year old). She has stalled this car at least 1,000 times and I have caught her pushing the clutch in 1 mile before she has to make a turn. 55 mph with the clutch in for a mile will kill a throw-out bearing.
If I do take the car in for service (like I did with the clutch), I go to Tucker Dodge in Durand, MI. They have the best service and they always stand behind their work. Maybe I just got lucky (according to these reviews). This is my 5th Dodge vehicle and I purchased them all brand new (I just purchased a Dart for my wife 4 months ago and once again, not a problem yet so I do not think that I am just lucky). This has been my favorite car by far and I hope that it lasts me for another 7 1/2 years. I am a 42 year old male that drives 100 miles each way to work (mostly expressway) and I live in Michigan so this car has been exposed to salt and the worst roads in the United States, just to give you some insight about myself.

I bought my 2007 Dodge Caliber in March of 2012 on a used Dodge lot in Nanaimo. After much haggling, I got the car for a more than reasonable price. After looking at online prices of used Calibers I am surprised of their resale value. I was influenced in my purchase due to the versatility of the vehicle and its options. I wasn't really impressed with its interior plastic but with the price I was getting the car I could not mince hairs. I had done my research on a lot of used cars and knew that Calibers have issues. But, I took a chance. The car had been leased and had high kilometers but, I don't drive a whole lot so that never mattered a lot to me especially where it's a leased car it would get serviced properly.
The previous owner drove a lot of highway miles, which are generally better for a vehicle. With two dogs, hiking and being an artist, the cargo capacity and versatility of the hatch was important. As well as the higher than average seats and head room because I am a tall guy. Since I have had this car, my complaints are minimal. By the summer of 2013, I had to replace a ball joint. Not a huge deal since I had it repaired for around $250. The gas cap mysteriously works its way free for some reason, thus causing the engine light to come on and then the engine sputters a bit like I have a bad spark plug. A friend of mine had a similar issue and just replaced the cap. I believe my next repair will be the brakes but with 274000 km on the vehicle that's to be expected. It's loud and rattles a bit but I suspect the plastic interior doesn't help that. If Dodge had put a more sound proof interior one wouldn't notice it so much (cutting corners). Other than that so far so good but I think in the next year I will be looking for a bigger SUV model and I worry about its age. If I struck another deal like this on a Caliber I would definitely buy another.

After much research into buying this 2007 Caliber new in 2008, due to the MAIN fact of a "Lifetime" warranty, as being a single parent, no immediate family still alive & just me to take care of me, I wanted to insure a smart purchase & investment for the future. After taking to dealership last time, I was called & informed my "lifetime" warranty was terminated. I was told to contact Chrysler directly, as further info had to be obtained thru them. After 6 people, 6 departments & 2 hours later, (btw, no one could talk to me without me giving them my home address), which upon finally doing, was told they sent a letter in February 2013, stating I needed to have a powertrain inspection to "keep" the "lifetime" warranty & that since I didn't respond within 60 days, the so called "lifetime" warranty expired.
The last contact person told me that her supervisor would not override this. (Now, they have my NEW address on file & I am quite sure this was a ploy to show that they had my current address on file for this "ghost" letter that I never received). I have also paid for extended warranty on items that when I took to dealerships, they would state that they don't see, hear or notice problems, like the noise from engine compartment, upon opening the door. Or the fact that when I hit the power switch for windows, the lights dim. I had to replace the heated seat button, long black plastic control panel, located under the gear control, twice, thank God that was within the first year & 1/2, while the REGULAR warranty covered it. The cheap leather seats started cracking after 2 1/2 years. Reason for last dealership appointment was due to a whining noise that grew higher pitched & faster as engine revved up. Even while in park.
Took to a garage & owner told me he can't believe this car was brought to him with same conditions as a lady who just brought the exact model car to him with same problems & bought a Kia to get rid of this caliber. The alternator has a bearing? or something inside which is grinding inside the alternator & is kicking out rusted debris. While talking outside by my car, a lady pulled up & spoke to owner and said, in a joking way, "Don't tell me the same problem" & when he replied yes, she was shocked. Only to find this same model & same problem so close to hers, and that we both had taken our vehicles to same place. Needless, I DEMAND A COURSE of action be taken against Chrysler Corp. in regards to this bogus LIFETIME warranty & extended warranty. We all need our money back, since they are just using this fraudulent wording of LIFETIME & are not backing this claim.

I bought my used Dodge Caliber model 2007 from the main dealer of Chrysler cars. It was only 6 months old and completed 10,000 kms. In 2012 June, the transmission failed. I complained to the dealer. He told me the guarantee period is over and it will cost me $6000 for the transmission, power cable, oil and labor cost. I found out that this transmission is manufactured by the joint venture of Nissan and Jatco Japanese companies and many have issues with this transmission.
Later, I also found out that Nissan has given in US 10y or 120000kms and in Canada 10y or 200000kms guarantee because of the same transmission failure problem they are facing in their Altima saloon model. After I showed this issues, the dealer finally agreed to cut down my cost to $3000 which I ultimately paid and repaired my car. This cvt transmission is having a driving belt inside which makes the car more time to pickup, generates more heat and ultimately fails, which is a clear design problem finally they want put on the customer. I want to get this money back from the transmission manufacturer or Chrysler. I glad somebody can help me.

I purchased my Caliber used in 2009. I was told it had been a company leased car. I had one problem the first year but it was taken care of by the warranty after 5 and about 70,000 and a lifetime of experience owning car both domestic and foreign. I feel that the Caliber has not caused me any unusual problems. Replaced tires and one tie rod end which improved the ride. I think the dealer had the wrong tires on it when they sold it to me. I keep my maintenance up, transmission serviced, oil change, tires rotated and checked once a month. I have not done much long distance in it and I understand that caused fluid levels to drop. So I have to watch them. I really don't expect much from a domestic car but I have had good experiences with Dodge. And I don't always listen to mechanics every time they suggest you need something.

I'll be honest. After reading all of the negative comments about the Caliber, I'm totally amazed! I've had very good luck with my Caliber. I've had my 2010 since April 2010 and I've put almost 92K on the car already. I put new tires on at 50K and new brakes at 75K. The only problem I've had is just recently and that is a ball joint that needs to be replaced. Granted, the car is noisy and it's not the smoothest ride, which is due to the suspension system, no doubt, but aside from that, the car has been very dependable so far. I've had the car for almost 4 years and considering how much I drive it, I really can't complain.

I special ordered my 2007 Dodge Caliber and watched it come off of the delivery truck. It was a great little car for about a year. Then, after driving in town, no road trips after one year, I had to replace rear shocks, struts, thermostat and various plastic interior parts. Fortunately, that was all covered under warranty. However, after the warranty expired in 2011, on a 4 year old car with 50k miles, I had to again replace shocks, struts, and front arms. The wheels literally almost fell off the car. It was so bad, the repair shop wouldn't let me drive it home because it wasn't road worthy.
So $2,000 later, the car was fixed. The tech told me that the Caliber is notorious for having a horrible suspension system because the car is too heavy for the frame. Wish I had known that prior to purchase. In early 2013 (car is now 6 years old and has under 85k miles), I had to again replace shocks, struts and front arms. Another $2,000+ I couldn't afford. 6 months later at a regular oil change, the Dodge mechanic at a local dealership told me that I really need to trade in the car because parts that connect the wheels to the frame are splitting apart and the cost and labor to fix it would not be worth it. Finally got rid of it two days ago.
Besides the horrible suspension (Chrysler should be ashamed of themselves!) the CVT transmission requires a $500 transmission fluid flush which is ridiculous and the sensors in the tires that gives you your PSI reading in the dash are of bad quality and just filling up a tire with air can break them if you aren't careful. Spent a lot of money on stems and tires. Mechanics have told me how these cars are money pits and don't I know it. Good thing they don't make the Caliber anymore. I will never buy another Dodge or Chrysler car as long as I live. Oh, but the engine is a champ.

I am extremely disappointed with my 2011 Dodge Caliber. I purchased the vehicle new from Kelly Dodge in Emmaus, PA in April of 2011. At first, it was great - a cheap manual transmission vehicle for under 18k. Now, I am thinking that cheaper is not better. Only 19k miles on this car and already clutch problems. I don't race. I don't grind gears or ride the clutch. Either a manufacturer’s defect or normal wear driving has broken something inside the clutch housing. It is currently in the body shop on my dime. The way these vehicles are made, they must remove the entire transmission to get to the clutch and see simply what the problem was that started a chain reaction of failure. Just to find out what the problem was will cost $300, and if not covered under warranty, even more to fix.
This is a 1-year-old car with less than 20k miles; clutch shouldn't even be on my mind. One thing they don't tell you when you buy these vehicles is although the bumper-to-bumper warranty covers 36k miles, the clutch is only 12k. Nothing we were told before buying the car and not available on the window sticker. I hope this message does not fall upon deaf ears because if it is a problem, I will have to be paying out of pocket. I will be filing many formal complaints as well as making sure no one I know ever buys a Chrysler product! I was even thinking about replacing this vehicle with a Dodge Journey, but now I may have to reconsider.

It is now November 2012 and I am still having the same issues with the car. I recorded this latest incident on my iPhone and I am not surprised that the service team didn't want to see it. Like they have told me in the past, "If a light does not come on, then there is nothing wrong with your car." (?) However, they did suggest that I get a tune up and an Induction Service Cleaning (which by the way, I got that done the last time) and hopefully that will correct the situation. So, I just came home and I googled my situation and, lo and behold, I am not the only one. Someone actually recorded his same issues and put it on YouTube. I am very angry about my 2009 Dodge Caliber. I purchased it a little over 2 years ago and bought extra warranty on it. Now the transmission is gone and I am 5000 over the warranty and Dodge in Ontario won't do anything and neither will the dealer. A new transmission is $6000 plus labor. I do not have that kind of money so I bought a used one and the dealer is putting it in for me. Roughly, by the time it is in, $2000. Then, he talked to me about buying another Caliber or Dodge product. I said, "This is not the time to be talking to me about buying another Dodge product." Why in the name of God would they make a transmission that can't be fixed? Ask me if I will ever buy another Dodge. No, certainly not. They are disposable cars and nothing but costly. The first two weeks I brought it back, it just sat there, and none of the promised work was done. Finally, the third week, all promised work was done; however, they installed the wrong axle which ended up damaging my rotor. I felt the need to tell the sales manager "Marty" how unhappy and inconvenienced I felt. He basically told me that this sale has been an inconvenience for him as well and that my being disappointed won’t change the situation. He was very rude and just didn't seem to give a damn.
I've suffered lost wages, a lot of stress, and a huge waste of my time, not to mention being inconvenienced over and over for a month. I commute to Baltimore for work Monday to Friday. Every Friday afternoon for a month I've been dropping my car off to them, taking a loaner car and coming back to pick up my car the next day. My question is this, who is going to make this right? I purchased my car from Courthouse Credit Auto Sales in Easton, PA on May 27, 2011. I do know for a fact that they are owned by Brown Daub on Hecktown Rd in Easton, PA. I purchased a 2007 Dodge Caliber. I was not told at the time of purchase that this car was recalled in 2010 for an issue with the acceleration pedal. I work an hour away from home. On April 2, 2012, I was driving home from work and my car all of a sudden kicked forward and a lightning bolt sign flashed on my dashboard. All of a sudden, my car would not go faster than 10mph. I was on Rt 80 driving home from work trying to get to my exit on the shoulder doing 10mph. Very dangerous! I had my car towed to my friend's garage.
The next day, I looked online and saw that my car was recalled the year before I purchased it and I was never notified of this. If I would have known this at the time of purchase, I would not have purchased this car. I contacted the Brown Daub on Hecktown Rd who did not return any of the 3 phone messages I left them. Finally, I had my uncle contact them. He said he needed to set up a service appointment and then and only then did he get to speak with a live person. They asked him for my VIN, which he gave to them and they said they cannot service my car for free because my VIN was not selected. First and foremost, I work in the service department at a furniture store and let me tell you, this is not customer service!
So after a couple months of calling the Brown Daub and getting no return phone calls, I decided to contact the place I purchased my car from. I contacted Courthouse Credit in Easton, PA on June 5, 2012 and I asked to speak with the general manager Jim **. He was not in so I spoke with a man named Mike. First, I must say if that is who they have representing their business, I think they need to start looking for someone else to replace him. I explained my situation to him. I told him I want my car fixed for free due to that fact that I was not told at the time of purchase that my car was recalled. He then proceeded to tell me I should have gotten a letter from the manufacturer. I told him I never got a letter and since I purchased a year after it was recalled, so the original owner probably got this letter and not me. He then continued to say to me I have had the car for a year and I told him it hasn't been running for the past 3 months.
It does not matter how long I have had this car. I'm paying these people $355.00 a month for a car that I cannot drive. I'm paying these people almost $11,000 total for a non-working car! I told him that I will be writing multiple letters to the BBB, the attorney general as well as Consumer Affairs and all he was worried about was who I was putting the complaint against! I told him whoever I need to! He asked me at some point during our conversation why I didn't bring the car in. I said I called someone in your office who told me I would have to pay them to find out what is wrong with it and then pay them for the labor to repair it! I said, "How exactly would you like me to get this car to you when it doesn't go past 10 mph!"
Mike then said to me and I quote, "You need to hold on because I'm the only one here and the phone is ringing!" I told him, "Forget it, I'm writing this letter and I will be contacting the manager David ** over at Brown Daub on Hecktown Rd.” He called me back and left a message on my voicemail. I couldn't answer the phone because I was at work. I returned his phone call and a woman answered. I gave her my name and told her to have him call me back. I was returning his phone because he was on the other line. And lo and behold, no phone call back! All I want is my car fixed correctly at no cost! If it isn't, they can come pick up this car and refund me every single cent that I paid them! This is a serious safety issue and I should not be paying for a car that doesn't run! If it comes down to it, I will hire a lawyer and take them to court. This is my first car and this is leaving a very bad taste in my mouth!
I take very good care of this car, I keep up with oil changes, etc. It is spotless inside and out! I drive an hour away from home Monday through Friday to get to work. I need a running car to get to work so I can pay them for a car that isn't working. I will also be writing a letter to the BBB as well as the Attorney General's office against Courthouse Credit Brown Daub and the entire Dodge Corporation! Unfortunately, I tried to be nice about this situation and it has gotten me nowhere so this is the route I have to take! If my car isn't fixed correctly for free, I want every penny I paid them back and the car picked up!

We have tried everything to get them to right this and they won't do anything. Chrysler needs to understand that watching my girlfriend cry because of the car she bought is junk is not right, and I will do all I can to make them pay for those tears. This any help is welcomed.
She should be happy and still showing off her car 2 months after buying it, not crying 2 weeks after, and still crying today because Chrysler told her that it was not their problem. And that it’s normal for a car to roll backwards 3 car links and shut off, and that all cars keys stick when you start them. I'm not an auto repair man but any idiot knows that this is not normal and really not safe. Also, the steering is making a popping noise but they said there is nothing wrong there too. I had to spend $443.37 on the brakes that I had replaced not that long ago and am out the amount of money above. I purchased the extended warranty and feel that these brakes should fall under this category as brakes should last longer than 10,000 miles. So now the question is, why did I bother purchasing the extended warranty if I can't use it? I have had nothing but problems with this car since I purchased it in May 2008. The dealer did tell me that quite a few people have gone in and have had problems with their brakes in a very short time frame of purchasing the car. I don't know if it is possible, but I would like at least some of the money that I spent today refunded. It is not the consumer's fault that Dodge chooses not to replace the brakes for free the second time around.

I, Mary **, have purchased a 2007 Dodge Caliber in March of 2006. I’ve been having an ongoing problem (that no one can seem to figure out) with my Dodge Caliber since November of 2007, and the problem is still occurring. When I turn my car off and attempt to start it back up, it won't start! The lights and the music will come on, but the car will not start! I have taken my car to several Dodge dealers who all advised me that they cannot see what the problem is. I was even once told that the problem was fixed, just for several weeks to go by and the same issues occur. I have been trying to be very patient with this situation before I take further actions, but this is becoming very stressful and unacceptable matter.
I have a 2-year-old child, and we are now going into the winter months, and I am driving an unreliable vehicle that hasn’t been reliable since almost after purchase and that can’t even be fixed by the Dodge dealer themselves because no one has any knowledge on what the ongoing problem is. I will be more than happy to take further action if this letter cannot resolve the issue. I was sold a lemon, and I do know the Lemon law. Please help me with this situation ASAP, or the next step will have to be a call from my lawyer and complaints about Dodge to the media. I will appreciate a rapid response and hope this situation can be resolved in a timely manner. I can be reached at ** and ** and/or **. Thank you for your time.
