Our editor’s take

CNA National is a long-standing vehicle service contract provider that offers multiple coverage tiers through dealerships. Its plans often include benefits like roadside assistance and rental reimbursement, but coverage details and costs vary by contract. While the company has strong industry credentials, customer experiences with CNA National Warranty Corporation are mixed, and claims handling often depends on the dealership that sold the warranty.

Unfortunately, the company doesn’t have much information about its contracts available online. And it doesn’t sell its products directly to consumers, so you have to contact an authorized dealer in your local area for pricing information.

You may run into issues canceling your contract since not all products are eligible for cancellation. Make sure you understand what you can and cannot do before buying a vehicle service contract.

What is CNA National Warranty Corporation

CNA National Warranty Corporation has operated in the vehicle service contract industry for over 40 years. Headquartered in Scottsdale, Arizona, the company offers service contracts, guaranteed asset protection (GAP) coverage and supplementary products, such as dent repair. It’s a subsidiary of CNA Financial, a commercial insurer.

CNA National Warranty Corporation availability

CNA National’s vehicle service contracts are generally honored throughout the U.S. and Canada when repairs are completed at authorized facilities. The company offers both exclusionary and powertrain coverage options for new and used vehicles, though eligibility (including maximum mileage limits) varies by contract, vehicle condition and the dealership offering the plan.

CNA National Warranty Corporation coverage and plans

CNA National Warranty Corporation offers several types of vehicle service contracts, including its Z2 plans, which feature multiple coverage levels ranging from basic powertrain protection to more comprehensive, exclusionary-style coverage. The company also provides service contracts designed for electric vehicles, with benefits that vary by plan.

For drivers interested in added maintenance coverage, CNA National’s Term Protect program combines a vehicle service contract with scheduled maintenance benefits and is often designed to complement a manufacturer’s warranty.

This table shows the four tiers of the company’s Z2 service contract; these plans should provide adequate coverage for most drivers.

CNA National coverage limits

CNA National contracts typically include a limit of liability clause that caps how much the provider will pay for repairs. In many cases, the per-claim limit does not exceed the vehicle’s fair market value at the time of repair, and the total amount paid over the contract’s lifetime is capped at the vehicle’s original purchase price. These limits can vary depending on the specific contract.

CNA National Warranty Corporation cost

CNA National Warranty Corporation sells its products through dealerships, so you can’t contact the company to get a quote. A participating dealer can provide details about pricing. The cost may vary depending on your car, mileage and location.

A CNA National contract may come with a deductible, which you will pay if your car needs repairs. A company representative says deductibles can range from $0 to $500. There’s also the option to have a disappearing deductible. This option allows you to get repairs done without paying a deductible if you take your car to the dealership where you purchased the contract.

When buying a CNA National contract, you can pay for the policy upfront in one lump sum or roll the contract price into your vehicle financing (if the lender allows). You can also get a separate loan for the service contract.

CNA National Warranty Corporation benefits

CNA National vehicle service contracts often include additional benefits such as roadside assistance, towing, rental car reimbursement and trip interruption coverage. For example, some plans may offer roadside assistance with towing reimbursement, rental car coverage of up to $50 per day (with a maximum limit) and trip interruption benefits to help cover meals and lodging during a breakdown.

While these perks are commonly included, coverage limits and availability vary by contract, so it’s important to review your specific plan details.

CNA National Warranty Corporation policies

When purchasing a CNA National vehicle service contract, it’s important to understand key policy details. Many contracts are transferable to a new owner if you sell your vehicle privately, though fees and eligibility requirements may apply. While CNA National does not offer traditional renewals, you may be able to purchase a new contract before your current coverage expires.

To cancel a CNA National contract, you’ll typically need to contact the dealership where you purchased the plan, as dealers often handle cancellations and refunds. If you’re unable to resolve the request through the dealership, you can contact CNA National directly at 800-345-0191. Cancellation terms, including your refund amount, depend on your specific contract.

I would not buy any insurance from this company. My husband is in long term, which he faithfully paid into for yrs - now he's in a facility and after jumping thru multiple hoops - I have not rcvd 1 full payment. Right now I'm out close to 30,000 for June, July, and August. Paid out w/o reimbursement - I'd call this elder abuse! Also, no one who speaks clear English - very hard to communicate with. In my over 2 hr phone call, I was put on hold 3 time - over 15 minutes each time. Trust me when I say, this is just some of the issues over 4 months. Horrible people to deal with!

Absolutely useless! They promise you they will have you covered just to tell you at the end after 2 Weeks of wasting our time, unfortunately you have to pay out of your own pocket. Best thing, they base their decision off of the factory warranty without even looking into your vehicle maintenance history. They are not worth 3000$! They were just looking for a way out of having to pay 8500$ for a engine break down for a Jeep Grand Cherokee L at barely 49000 miles! Never ever in my life did I have to deal with someone so useless, trying to waste time, lying straight to your face and giving you false information! If you can, stay away from this company it will save you lots of headaches! You're better off donating your money or just literally throwing it into your trash can.... Words can't describe my experience with them....

I'd give them a 0 if possible. They denied my claim for a new transmission. The issue started 6 months ago, and my son put in a lift kit 2 weeks ago. Ford says the 2022 Ranger has a KNOWN issue on their transmissions. According to the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, an aftermarket lift kit would not affect a warranty unless they can PROVE it caused it. There is no proof, only their decision they will not cover. BTW, the new transmission I'm paying for, Ford will warranty even with the lift kit installed. They're crooks. Stay away from them.

They are crooks. Denied a lifetime warranty claim on the ABS because the shop we use for service the last 12 years uses handwritten work orders. Plus the fact that none of those services had anything to do with the ABS. They will find a way to deny in hopes that you will give up during the appeal process and just forget about it. Have been getting the run around from this company for over a month over a repair they acknowledge is covered. Purchased a 5 yr/100,000 mile warranty. Currently well within the warranty period, only second claim. Repair of AC evaporator requires extensive disassembly of the interior (removal of dashboard, steering column, and windshield). CNA agreed to cover the cost of replacing the evaporator, but won’t cover the hours to access it (which is more than half the work). Two independent shops verified that all the disassembly was necessary, as well as the dealership using the OEM labor guide.

CNA claimed they needed proof from the dealer labor guide showing all the procedures justifying the extra labor hours to replace the evaporator. Once that was provided, now they’re saying it doesn’t matter and they won’t take the official manufacturer labor guide and procedure into consideration. All staff, and especially supervisors, are rude, short, uncooperative, and keep moving the goal post as to what is required to justify the labor hours. Avoid this company at all costs because they will do everything possible to avoid fully paying out a repair they acknowledge is covered.

CNA is delaying approval of valid claim due to unrelated and insignificant timing difference for maintenance record. I took my car into the Walser dealer for a diagnosis. They mentioned a repair needed for the drive shaft. I had purchased a lifetime warranty when we bought the vehicle (2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee). The dealer called and CNA requested maintenance records which were ultimately provided. After 6 calls by myself, in addition to the dealership calling them, CNA is indicating that the claim is in "pending" status because - they say there is a missed record for a 70K miles oil change - though the records indicate oil changes at 67k and 75k. CNA also said there was an air filter not changed at 60K miles - though the dealer did inspect the filter and did not see a need to change. I was on hold for 20+ minutes 2 separate times, keep getting transferred instead of someone discussing a resolution.

Took it to the Nissan dealership and CNA paid to replace the whole unit, then on 1/03/24 the transmission wasn’t shifting above 3rd gear, we took it into the dealership and it ended up being a bad transmission. They cover that with a manufactured transmission. Another $7262 parts and labor. August 12, 2025 an air bag light flashing. Took it to Nissan and it ended up being the sensors in the lower cushion of the passenger seat. $3649.97 and all was covered. We are very happy with CNA! We own a 2017 Kia Sorento from Crowley Kia in Bristol CT, and when the salesperson (Rob, no longer employed there) along with their finance manager suggested we purchase this policy (basically without even reading a word of it) they said they'd cover everything you could possibly imagine going wrong with your warranty, that it basically was an extension of the Kia warranty after their warranty expired. Well, last year I began having trouble getting a connection of the Sirius XM Radio. Sure enough I had to shell out $100 to first have the problem diagnosed.

Without telling me the exact results they said the wiring from the "shark-like" antenna on the roof to the radio was the problem and that after supposedly contacting CNA, that they'd only cover either the antenna OR the radio, but not both. I was hesitant because if they had replaced the shark antenna, then the radio (which may have cost thousands to repair would NOT be covered. Crowley Auto said however that to be 99.999% sure they'd have to spend another 3 hours of labor to remove the dashboard.??? What. I hadn't even read the freaking Factory Wrap + Plus Care contract. So I asked CNA to mail me a copy. While reading through the contract with the +Plus Care portion under section 8 it does state that they would definitely replace the radio.

HOWEVER, since apparently the RADIO was never specifically checked, only the antenna was, I'd have to pay Crowley Kia that amount FIRST apparently before even being able to diagnose the condition of the radio??? Now, CROWLEY KIA did say that they DID NOT have any spare antennas available to even see if replacing the antenna for over $1k would have fixed the problem. Reading further through the contract CNA has NON-COVERED PARTS listed under "WHAT THIS CONTRACT OES NOT COVER". It says verbatim under NON-COVERED PARTS "Antenna mast, mirrors and steering wheel".

So is a shark antenna really an antenna mast? According to Google's answer to this same question it states as of today verbatim "No, a shark fin antenna is not an antenna mast. It's a streamlined, aerodynamic antenna housing that contains multiple antennas for various functions like AM/FM radio, cellular, GPS, and satellite radio. Antenna masts, on the other hand, are typically tall, rigid structures used to elevate antennas for better signal reception and transmission, often in military or other specialized applications.

      Here's a breakdown of why they're different:

Function: Shark fin antennas are designed to integrate multiple antenna elements into a single, visually appealing unit. Masts, while also used to elevate antennas, are primarily focused on raising the antenna for improved signal coverage.
Purpose: Shark fins are used for everyday vehicle communication and navigation. Masts are used for specialized communication needs, such as military operations.

Appearance: Shark fins have a sleek, aerodynamic shape. Masts are typically tall, vertical structures.

Avoid CNA National Warranty at All Costs! I am extremely disappointed with CNA National Warranty Corporation. Their service is nothing short of a scam. Despite having a valid warranty, I have faced constant resistance and outright refusal to cover necessary repairs for my vehicle. Every time my car needs service, CNA National Warranty refuses to pay the full cost of repairs. They consistently try to send their own parts, which my dealership does not accept, and they refuse to pay the manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) for parts. This has resulted in me having to cover thousands of dollars out of pocket for repairs that should be covered under the warranty. Their customer service is abysmal. Getting a straight answer or any form of resolution is nearly impossible. They seem more interested in finding ways to deny claims rather than honoring their commitments. The lack of transparency and accountability is astounding.

To make matters worse, they push all the costs onto the consumer because we have no recourse. I can't cite ALLDATA or Mitchell because I don't have access to those pricing guides, so they just charge us whatever they like. In summary, my experience with CNA National Warranty Corporation has been a nightmare. I strongly advise anyone considering their services to look elsewhere.
