I've had nothing but problem after problem with this car I purchased my car from CarMax Roseville and for a minute I thought CarMax was Salinger bad cars but after reading these reviews my car has all the same issues as everyone else's. It's stopped twice on me on freeway road in the middle of tragic with my 3 year old son and mom in the car and my brother-in-law and sister-in-law. I have a warranty and I have gotten so many repairs done on it and still can not determine why the car is cutting off randomly. I owe 11,299$ on this car and haven't even had it for a year yet...

I have taken it to two Chevy dealerships and they could not determine what the problem is with car. I'm considering going to small claims court to sue for my downplay mentioned and stress because it's unfair how these cars are we consumers go in thinking they're a reptile name and company reliable car but all in all we get junk out of our money and for some credit that's why so many people end up in debit because of outstanding car loans. Smh. We need to all come together and get CHEVY they owe us all if you ask me.

Replaced power steering motor and module and same thing happened 5 minutes later. Car just sits in garage now. I reported it to NHTSA. That's what we all need to do and it may get taken care of. I came on here to read about complaints about Chevy Cobalts to see if any matched what has been going on with my car and sure enough I have read several complaints that relate. I have a 2010 Cobalt that I bought brand new. The minute I drove off with it I realized it was cheaply made. I did have problems with the ignition before the recall where I went somewhere and I could not shut the car off or get the key out of the ignition, I had to leave the car running while I went into my doctors appt. I brought it to the dealer and they supposedly fixed it and I didn't really have any other issues with it but a year later the recall came out and the had me go back in to change it out, this happened just a few months ago.

I then began to have a problem with the car. My speedometer started jumping back and forth while I was driving and then stalling when I stopped at a light and when I am on the highway the speedometer goes from 70 down to 30 and back up, the engine makes a grinding noise and it keeps jerking. I brought it into the dealer and they said it was a modular panel and replaced it and said it was under warranty. I acted better for about 3 weeks until I went on vacation to Massachusetts and on the way home the car started acting up again. I brought it back to the dealer but they said that they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. They couldn't duplicate what I said it was doing and insinuated that maybe I hadn't been taking care of it and giving it proper maintenance, but I had just had the oil changed and the fuel filter changed and I change the oil every 3000 miles.

The technician suggested we go for a ride and while on the ride the car acted up and he was able to see what I was talking about. When we got back to the service dept he told the service manager that he thought it was the cluster panel but the tech said he would have to look at some technical manuals and give a call to GMAC, and they would call me. I waited a day then I called them. They said that because I told them I started having problems with it after they changed the ignition they would replace the ignition again as a recall. I brought it in today. The car seemed fine but when I jumped on the highway just 1 hour after getting it fixed it was doing the same exact thing. I just paid my last payment today, after having paid on it for 5 years. I had planned on having no payments for a couple of years because I have a student loan and mortgage and I felt like at last maybe I could have a little breathing room financially with no car payment.

My car only has 59,800 miles on it and I don't know what is going to happen. The tech said he would call GMAC on Monday. Today is Friday, so I am stranded because after reading all these complaints and because of my own instincts in feeling that my car is not safe to drive, I don't dare go anywhere and even if I try and get rid of this car or trade it in they are going to see it has problems and so I won't get anything for it. So I have paid on a car for 5 years and it is worth nothing. I am so upset right now and that is a mild description on what I am really feeling right now. I am single and work two jobs to make ends meet, I have a student loan to pay and I'm thinking now that I am going to have to have another car payment.

I purchased a 2005 Chevy Cobalt in 2009 and I have had problem after problem. The check engine light came on. I went and got a diagnostic from AAMCO and it read a transmission code and it was told to me the tranny was slipping so I spent $2800 on a rebuilt tranny. A couple months passed and the check engine, traction control and power steering warnings came on and locked up. Took it to the dealer to do a diagnostic and they found nothing wrong but just a clicking sound from the transmission and to take it back to AAMCO. I did just that and AAMCO said that I had other complications. I've got everything done and it's STILL cutting off and locking up on me OMG! How do you fix a problem that looks like it can't be fixed?? I'm tired of getting the run around, wasting gas, and the issue is not being fixed! All of the recalls have been repaired and the issue is still not resolved.

Ok I bought my 2005 chevy cobalt ls coupe about 5 months ago from a dealer. Since then my front end has been making a knocking sound every time I hit a bump. I took the car to the garage 5 times and they keep telling me nothing is wrong. I've had my power steering light come on multiple times and it feels like my steering wheel locks up sometimes but again the gm garage told me there's nothing wrong. My driver's door has issues latching. Then on top of it all now my motor is making a clicking sound when the rpms goes up past 2. Does anyone know what could be wrong with it? I've only had the car for 5 months and it only has 89k miles.

I have a 2006 Chevy Cobalt. There were multiple recall notices that I received last year (2014) that I had taken care of during the inspection. One, in particular, was regarding the ignition. GM claimed that it was caused by "heavy" keychains. I do not have any keys or decorations attached to my car key and never have. I assumed this was corrected by the recall notice.

However, very recently on two separate occasions my car has shut off twice unexpectedly while driving. Both times luckily I was going slow and there was no immediate traffic by me. The second time, I had to use my emergency break. Otherwise, I would have hit a retaining wall and quite possibly could have died today. I have called the dealership to take a look at it. The reason why I am sharing this is that I fear for my safety. I have read others' comments about similar situations with 2006 Chevy Cobalts. And it is really concerning. If this happens on a busy road with traffic someone could lose their life. The car literally loses all of its electric power while on. This is unacceptable.

I am very upset with GM. Our car still even though they fixed the ignition key and they told me they had replaced the power steering motor in 2011 still having that problem with the steering wheel and the battery dying on us. We just bought the battery this month and it died the first night we put it. We bought another power steering motor and still it is doing the same thing. Not able to drive it because of the steering wheel getting real hard and we cannot turn it at all.

I would like to know if Gm owes us back money for all the lies and trying to save money. My daughter has a 2013 equinox and it already has a recall but still haven't gotten a letter. We have a Chevy Malibu and it has a recall on it. I now know that I will never buy a GM chevy car never again. My daughter who was pregnant at the time almost got hit, maybe killed but she got to turn the car again and just parked in the side of the road until her daddy came to help her. We don't need to go through all of these stress. She was always scared to drive to work but that was the only car she had at the time. She got herself a chevy Cruze. Now she regrets it.

I bought my Chevy Cobalt 2005 in 2013 and during the summer I had my first lost of power steering in a parking lot. The steering wheel stiffen up and I couldn't move it, the light on the dashboard came up with a clunking noise. Rattling was coming from my gear maneuver and it was hard to have control over my car. I took it to my (non GM) dealership he couldn't find the problem because the power steering wheel wasn't acting up when I took it to him. So next time it happen I took a video of it to show my mechanic what it does when it happens. It only occurs during the Summer when it's hot. Once I did research I found out it was the Electric Power Steering recall. So I took it to a Chevrolet dealership, he said he could not find the problem and said it was due to my cigar lighter fuse. I found that unbelievable and that was NOT the problem.

Now it's summer again and it's still acting up, this time it was more survive and it happened on the Highway and also more issues were appearing now. My mileage shot up to 60 miles then dropped back down to 20 mph, then random shoots of energy of the gas pedal. I had no control of my car while my car was changing its own speed. My neck is in pain due to my car acting up in burst of mileages. I had to pull over and get my car tolled to Outten Chevrolet dealership.

I told them of my recall problems and what it is leading to. They said I would have to pay $100 first to have someone look at it and I would have to pay for the problem out of pocket. That the recall was a "done deal" and I have to pay to have the items replace. My problem is the recall was done back in 2010. However, the recall is STILL active. Whoever is still having The Electric Power Steering Wheel problem please leave a comment about it and, let GM and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration know so we can open up this recall again and have it diagnosed.

I purchased this 2006 Chevy Cobalt in July of 2014. In December of 2014, I noticed the smell of gasoline emitting from my car. Over the course of a couple of weeks the smell progressively got worse & worse. I did research on what was happening to see what the issue may be & I found that others were having the same issue & it was the fuel pump modulator. It was a part that was recalled in 15 states (Massachusetts not being one of them). I brought the car to my mechanic on 12/30/2014 & made him aware of my research and what I had discovered. A few hours later, he called and confirmed that it was indeed the above mentioned part and that it would be close to $500.00 to fix.

I immediately called GM on 12/30/14 and expressed my concerns, in that if a part is defective in Texas it's also defective in Massachusetts. The woman I spoke to agreed & told me what I needed to do was call my local dealership (Colonial South Chevrolet in Dartmouth, Massachusetts). When I called Colonial South on 12/30/14 (believe I spoke with ** in service), they looked up my VIN and informed me that the part was covered under a special warranty & to bring my car to them. I informed them that my car was already at my mechanic, the part was ordered & the car would be ready the next day. He then stated "Well bring in the paperwork from the repair, and we will reimburse you within 60 days".

The next week, I brought in all the paperwork from my repair & I was told that they made a mistake & because my car was a salvage title they would not reimburse the cost because in the eyes of GM, my car was totaled & inoperable. (Mind you they repaired my steering column 3 months prior at GM's cost.) I reached out to GM again and explained what I had been told by the dealership & she told me to send in my paperwork directly & I would be reimbursed. All I had to do was go to the dealership & get the reimbursement form. I was called a couple of days later by GM and told again that their rep made a mistake & I would not be reimbursed the cost to fix my car.

Till this day I am still fighting with GM about this issue. GM does not stand by their product or their word. I was told on 2 separate occasions that I would be reimbursed to later have them renege & say they wouldn't because they made a mistake. And also if they know anyone with a Cobalt that has had that same issue, that they need to fight & hold GM accountable for their poorly made parts. If a part is defective, it is defective & they should take responsibility for it, whether the car is a salvaged title or not. I also reported this issue to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. I was told by the representative I spoke to that if anyone else had or is having this issue, they need to report it to them so that maybe GM can be held accountable before someone gets seriously hurt. Their number is 1-888-327-4236.

I did take my car to the mechanic I usually go to to check it out. He said to take it back to the dealer - this is to do with what they did with the ignition recall they did. Well 106 dollars just for these people to look at my car and they are strongly trying to say this is not the case. My car since this light came on 2 days ago has been having problems starting.. I'm not a happy camper at all. This car has been nothing but problems from day 1 (bought this car brand new in 2008). It has 105,000 miles on it because I drive 30mins daily to work and from work. I'm afraid to drive it now on 78. I'm about to get up and look at different cars.. Has anyone had this problem?

Cobalt 2006 - There has been more than 3 times my car has lost power and stopped. Luckily I had been not going fast. I have had all the recalls done, after the ignition one was done now my key won't come out of the ignition, had to use the button under the steering wheel to get the key out, but no that is not part of the steering wheel they say, it is part of the shifter. Now the reduced engine light comes on and I lose power, I have had parts replaced like the ignition coil twice in 3 months time - faulty equipment they say.

Doesn't matter if you do the regular maintenance the car has so many problems - you're fighting a losing battle. Tried calling them - they give you the run around about recalls and some other kind of recall. I think they did this on purpose so you'd have to spend a lot of money on fixing these things they know that are going to constantly go wrong over and over again. I will never buy another GM product, because they don't know how to treat their customers. What a waste of my money.

I had the ignition on my 2007 Chevy Cobalt replaced under the recall in August 2014. Shortly after, the car would lose all power to the electrical systems when attempting to start it. At first it was only once every few weeks, but now it happens daily. Took the car to the dealership as it is still covered under the recall, but they claim the problem is not with the ignition switch, it is in the electrical system. I have had the electrical system checked out and there are no problems there. All the symptoms point to a defective ignition switch.

But it does this so much I freaking figured out a technique (which doesn't always come in hand) so I told the car place about it and they claim they never experienced that problem. Soon after I get a GM letter in the mail about a freaking recall. Which irritated me! Then it happened again Dec 2013 when our car lost control and I was hurt on top of being in serious shock from the fear of losing my precious granddaughter and I thought we would all be killed. I purchased a 2008 Chevy Cobalt with 45,000 miles on it. Within the first month I could hear a clunking noise in the front end on the left side. The dealership gave me a hard time at first and then eventually changed the sway bar. That seemed to fix the problem for a while. Now it's clunking again and I hear a rattle in the steering column. My front speakers work intermittently but mostly only my back speakers work. Because of this, I can't hear my turn signals or my door chimes. My airbag stopped working on the passenger side and the warning light came on. The dealership had to replace something under the seat to fix it. They actually tried to blame me for the issue stating that I probably crimped the wires when moving the seat. I have a strange whining noise when I push on the gas. It almost sounds like when you leave an auxiliary cord plugged in. When I lift off the gas the noise isn't as loud but when I push on the gas it gets loud. It's very annoying.

My RPM's jump up and down when I'm driving at low speeds which causes my car to lurch forward. I tried to get the dealership to fix this issue and they denied it was a problem even when I showed them a video that I recorded on my phone. They said that because they couldn't replicate the issue when they drove it, that they would not fix it. That's total crap. I have an issue with the tire sensors not working properly which causes the tire pressure warning to constantly come on. I still owe a great deal of money on this car and am worried that it won't last until my loan is paid off.

My car has had more than one recall. In August 2014, the vehicle was taken in for the most recent repair to have the ignition and locks replaced. Yesterday, my son (who now drives the car and is a new driver) called to tell me that the car "gadgets" started going crazy again. The bell sounded, the lock security light came on, the car started to jerk and felt as though it wouldn't change gears, and the power steering went out. He managed to pull over on icy roads with heavy traffic and shut the car off. It then wouldn't start again immediately. He waited a few minutes, the car started, but he was still without power steering and the car was still jerking.

I immediately called our dealership and they are currently working with us and another dealership out of town, where my son goes to college, per my request. He isn't safe to drive it back here, nor does he have time in his schedule. BUT, I am sensing from conversations that the dealership is preparing me to have to cover the costs of the repairs! This is completely unacceptable, and they are also telling me that I may have to cover the costs of a rental while his vehicle is being repaired. This is the first time that I have ever provided a written complaint about anything. I am that disgusted and concerned for his safety.

This car has had many recalls and how is it my fault that the engine is not getting compression as it was stated, in which it has resulted in a 6,000 new engine. What is it that I can do?

I have a 2006 Chevy Cobalt LS. Starting off, this is my first car, and current car. I have had my Cobalt since Christmas 2009, and it was my learning car in High School. I still drive it everyday to college and work. I loved my car the first few years I had it - never broke down, no engine trouble, no steering problems, easy to drive, and accelerated nice and quick.

In May 2014, I was driving a long road trip, from Savannah, Georgia to Clarksville, TN - about 10 hours. After I made a stop in Huntsville, AL, I got back on the highway and hit grooved pavement (construction is normal in this area). My car completely shut off. I lost my electrical system, engine, steering, and barely had working brakes. I was terrified. I was driving on the interstate doing about 70, and effectively lost control of my car. I finally got it to slow down and pull off the interstate on to the shoulder.

The thing is, I knew about the recall. Matter of fact, I went to my local Chevy dealer to talk about it, just one week prior. They told me there was nothing that could be done and there were no parts available. I mentioned how GM said that if you feel unsafe in your vehicle, you were able to get a rental car provided by GM. I felt unsafe since I travel a lot. He said there was no such thing and directed me to leave.

After my scary emergency stop in a ditch, I drove my car (doing under 50 the rest of the way, freaking out over bumps) to my parents in TN. We went to their local Chevy dealer, and they took the car off my hands immediately and provided a 2014 Malibu for me to drive for 2 months since the parts were on backorder. Since then, I have had no major issues.

I want to say this, if I exclude my incident with the recall, I would say I absolutely love my little Cobalt. But since I had to go through that terrifying experience, I can't say I love him anymore as my car. Conclusion, I love my car, but still hate it for trying to hurt me by turning off.

Bought this 09 Cobalt w 38000 miles on it almost two yrs ago and it's been one thing after another. First it was the recall on power steering. Does anyone really know how hard it is to shift gears and turn with no power steering?... Super freaking hard! Had that fixed via recall to turn around a week later do the same thing. Dealership said I had a faulty part or whatever.

Last April before I knew about the recall on the ignition switch I was driving around a a curve going 60 mph and my wheel locked up. Thank god when I hit the brakes and got down to 20 it unlocked. Never been more scared to death with my children in the back seat. Took months for that recall to be fixed and the driver's side headlight keeps burning out the socket. Was replacing it every month literally until I put a extra ground on it somewhere else (which lasted 6 months). The front end is junk!!! I've replaced wheel bearing, arm bushings, struts, ball joints, tires. I've went through 3 front sets of tires since this past summer!!

Funny thing is my dad's gf has the same car and the same issues. I now hate Chevy. Will never buy another again. My jeep and van never had this many issues and I drove them both up to almost 200,000 miles before I sold them.

I contacted GM about having issues of dashboard lighting, up car jerking, loss of power steering and the car stops running. The other day was the final straw. I was driving my grandchildren to school and once again my vehicle stopped and I loss power steering. I was at a three-way stop in the middle of the intersection. When my car stopped it took me about 10 mins before I could start my car and get out of danger. GM's response was "So sorry you had a stressful morning. We can't do anything because you have already had the recalls done on your vehicle but we will give you a case # and contact you in 24 to 48 hours." That was on Monday. It is now a Thurs and no call has been made.

Since then I have been checking internet for other Cobalt owners and found 3 YouTube videos showing the dash acting crazy just like mine and the jerking of car loss of power steering and many written complaints of same thing and car continues to stall all this after having recall done, seems to me the problem was never really fixed or a whole new recall needs to be done. I am very disappointed in GM's response. How many more deaths need to happen before they recall this vehicle? They need to be taken off the road now before lives are loss.

As for my cobalt, I personally will be taking it off the road and be buying a new car (no gm car for me thank you). I also will not be trading this car in when buying a new one nor will I be selling it to anyone. This car will not be causing any deaths. I am not happy about this. I just paid this car off this summer and had planned to be loan free for a few more years. GM has now forced me to buy another car and I won't be able to use my Cobalt for a trade in so I am out the value of this car. Shame shame GM case # is **.

The front end components are of poor quality. I have spent thousands replacing from sway bars, control arms, wheel bearings, and suspension components. Aesthetically, I already have surface rust on the lower door panels, and my left front and right rear head and tail lights have moisture leaks. 2007 Chevy Cobalt LT ($25,000 car note on a $18,000 MSRP), and firstly I would like to say that to this day it has been a dependable driver. I am very dissatisfied with the lack of quality parts/materials and construction of the vehicle and I'm just praying that I can at least get $5000 for trade in which I know might be impossible due to the stains the water leaking issue has left on the headliner.

2-3 months after purchase I had water in the rear seats and trunk of the car. Dealer told me it was due to clogged sunroof drains and took care of the cost. 1 month later I have the same problem and this time the dealer told me that there was a bulletin that the sunroof was misaligned... Once again, no cost to me. Another month went by and again water in the back seat. This time I had to pay $100 to get the drain channels cleaned out and they mentioned that the channel in the rear right pillar wasn't connected properly. The dealer also had told me it was my responsibility to remove debris from the drain channels "Whenever" I use the sunroof or "just don't use the sunroof at all". I was in one more time after this and before I handed the tech my keys I had mentioned that since the last time I was in for this issue I had not opened the sunroof but nevertheless after they got done with it I was told there was blockage in the drain channels.

I never owned a car with a sunroof before and this is NOWHERE in the Manual for the car. Now it is 2014 and I still have water getting into the rear trunk of the car along the rear pillars, but to make matters worse I have noticed that this entire time that water has been pooling in the trunk where the Battery is located. I only really noticed it now b/c only recently I had a flat tire and couldn't get the jack out b/c the wing nut was locked in place by rust not to also mention an inch of standing water around the battery. To think this entire time these drainage channels have been leaking I have been getting water pooling around my battery.

I've never opened the sunroof all the way... I have had friends that have owned cars with sunroofs and have had NO problems with ANY leakage without even having to worry about clearing debris from their sunroof drain channels. The fact alone that water has been pooling by the battery... No matter how many times I clean the drain channels out I keep getting water in the car, to the point now where there is actual mold and I have to climb in and try to wet-vac and clean it up, and once again standing water in the trunk by the battery.

Then the recall came to light. Voila! there is the problem. We took the car to Van. They did the recall and we thought all was good, however the car continues to do the same thing only less frequently. We took the car back to Van and they could not duplicate the problem in the 12 days that it was at their facility. The service manager told me that they took out the ignition and looked at it and determined it good and that it was not the cause. Isn't the ignition electronic? Apparently many other 2007 Chevy Cobalt owners have had the same issue and a minor recall of ~ 50,000 Chevy Cobalts were made in southwestern states back in 2009. My 2007 Chevy Cobalt had approximately 82,500 miles at the time of the incident, therefore the problem is covered over GM's limited lifetime parts warranty; however every dealership within ~ 30 minutes from my location could not have my car diagnosed until 6 days after I called. Due to the danger to public health and property, I decided to try to take care of the problem by taking my car to Meineke ASAP, which I did not realize would default the warranty. This danger could have catastrophic consequences to the environment and health of hundreds of thousands of people; however GM will never make such a drastic recall due to the cost and time of the repair these faulty fuel tank/pumps. All Chevy Cobalt owners (and perhaps other GM vehicle owners) should be me made aware of this issue to help protect from these consequences.

After filing a claim with GM directly, they were very helpful, nice and led me to believe my vehicle would be fixed. But ** the service manager at Parker said the damage was not related to the ignition. I am no mechanic but I did find other cases such as mine, and did inquire with other reputable mechanics that this damage surely could have been caused by the car shutting off while driving down the road. I was very lucky I was able to control the car and bring it to a safe stop. I immediately got out because the car smelled like it was on fire. When I saw no evidence of a fire, I opened the hood and disconnected the battery thinking this would somehow stop it from catching.

The bottom line is my car ran fine until the ignition switch shut off. GM seemed as though they would take care of the problem but said the findings were up to the dealership service manager. He said no so now I have no car. I would have been so much further ahead if I had crashed into something and/or been injured. I have no idea what to do. However, now my keys were almost impossible to get out of ignition. GM just kept saying keys aren't part of the recall. It was recalled due to people not being able to turn car off and it causing fires, etc. Inability to use the keys properly after replacing the barrel negates fixing the problem. I called and called - no luck. Mike Castrucci, the dealership, gave me new keys and said they would deal with GM themselves.

Kudos to Castrucci - screw GM! Now, they are recalling it again for same problem, but letter said keys are included in recall. Well, too late GM. You lost a good customer over some stinking keys! And now I have to waste time getting it fixed again! BOO!

I've been having problems with my 2007 Chevy Cobalt for the past two months. My mechanic installed a new stereo, and ever since then my car has gone crazy. The locks constantly lock and unlock, there is a strange clicking noise coming from shifter (kind of like someone is tapping on the underside of the shift stick), power steering message comes on the dash, speedometer jumps, car doesn't drive smoothly, it's very rough. The headlights flash on and off, rpm goes to 4000 while going slow, and then either the car stalls, or sometimes it's on, but just won't accelerate. It's very random. Sometimes the car can run perfectly fine for a couple hours, but then the problems come back all at once. I've taken it to so many mechanics (Including GM), but no one can tell me what is wrong. I'm feeling very helpless here. I'd like to know if someone has the same problems and if there is a solution. Thanks.

I bought my 4 door Chevy Cobalt in 2008, drove it off the lot with only 3 miles on the engine. I was excited at first because this was my first 'new' car to own. I wish I knew then what I know now... that for the $17k loan I had to take out for the car, I could have had something much better!

Within the first month, I sliced my finger open trying to open the door. The silver part of the door handle is actually a sticker, mine peeled off the back of the handle and when I went to open the door, received a deep cut that almost required stitches. A few months later, the rubber seal around my windshield peeled off. A couple months later, one of my window motors burned out. All of these issues within the first 6 months of owning the car and all are due to poor work and bad quality parts. Had the car in for a recall in 2009, but I cannot remember what it was for.

Over the last 2-3 years, my suspension has sucked. My car feels like it could jump off the ground anytime I have a bump in the road. I am cautious and take it slow on speed bumps and stay away from the potholes. My tires pull very badly when I driving hwy speeds. It's almost HARD for me to control the steering wheel.

Two years ago, I got to a friend's house 2 house away and my car would not turn OFF. I sat in front of the house for 20 minutes trying to turn the key and had a full tank of gas. Thankfully, a mechanic friend was able to turn off my car by plugging the air intake and stalling it out. We disconnected the battery and left it for the night. Made it home the next day because the car would start but once again, would not turn off. Dealership charged me $300 to replace the part that locked the key in. I fought them about that since this was such a common issue but lost. Come to find out, that is part of the current recall and I have to have it replaced AGAIN when the part comes out. Nice that they recall it after I argued and ended up paying $300.

My biggest mystery is in a shaking feeling I get when stopped at a light. When the car is in drive but braking, it shakes badly. It's not like a jolt, but more like a fast shaking that I can feel through the pedals and steering wheel. Same if I am sitting in the drive-thru, I actually have to pop it in neutral to make it stop. This is made worse by having the air or A/C on. Usually if I turn either of those off, it will stop also. Had it in the dealership 3 times and no one can figure it out. We will see when something major happens and that issue was ignored.

I have 2 payments left on this car and I could not be more excited. $350 a month for this piece of **. I wouldn't do it again. Next time, I'm going away from GM. We have a Subaru factory here that is a great employer, great for our local economy, donates cars to our police, non-union happy workers and is currently making the safest cars in the market.

I have a 2006 Chevy Cobalt which actually cut out on me 3 days before I saw the recall on the news. I immediately called my local dealer and they said to wait on my recall letter and call back if it happens again. Well, when I got the recall letter I called again and they told me they would order part. 1 & 1/2 months later, part finally came in (talked to dealer 2 times within this time period). When they told me part was in, I asked to make appt to have it fixed, they said "sorry we are booked for 2 weeks" but we can get you in on Monday 2 weeks from now. I asked for a loaner car while they completed the work and they said "it only takes an hour and a half". I told them I needed to work so then they said I could "just take the shuttle as long as it is within dealer hours". Well that pissed me off so I went online to research and found out I should have been able to get rental car from the very beginning. I immediately called GM and they got on the phone with my dealer and had me a rental car within 5 minutes.

But it doesn't end there. I went to drop my car off at the dealer and pick up my rental. When I got there they said to wait on the bench outside in the 86 degree weather with my 3 yr old toddler and the rental people would come in a few minutes. Over 1 1/2 hours later someone showed up - to take me ACROSS THE STREET to the rental company. Not only that, but a little while after I got home with my rental car they called and said my car was done and I needed to pick it up by 5:30. WTF? It's pretty damn amazing how fast they can get something done when THEY are having to pay for a rental. I ended up calling GM back and complaining AGAIN because I was not going to drive the 40 minutes BACK to the dealer when I just got home. They said ok you can take it back tomorrow then. What **. I am done with GM and especially with Asheville Chevrolet in NC. The funny thing is, they called this morning and left a message on my cell wanting to schedule an appointment to complete the recall....what a bunch of idiots.

My 2008 Chevy Cobalt was totaled in 2012 by my cousin. Me and my uncle worked every day for about 3 weeks and had everything completely fixed including new tires. The car has always been loud inside the cab. We thought it was just the emission system causing the car to over-rev but tonight I hit a bump and heard a loud pop. When I turned out, it was creaking and groaning. I put my flashers on until I got home but every turn you could hear a whistling noise. Multiple friends of mine, I have asked to drive my car and move it before but they never were able to start it because of the ignition. You have to push the key all the way in and pull it out about a centimeter and jiggle it then force it to turn on. But, that's before tonight happened. I'm guessing my problem is my bearings because the car was pulling a lot to the right and when I got home, I looked at my car and the tires on my right side was leaning inward. Also the rotor had some play in it when I jacked the car up and was making noises as I was jacking it up. I guess the noises just alarmed me. Because of what the car was doing, maybe it's just the crappy suspension. I hate this car and wish I could get anything else.

First off I own a 2006 Chevy Cobalt LT 4 door. Car runs like a dream but that is not to say I actually like the car. I was a huge GM person up until the big recall. I bought the car with 47,000 miles on it and now have 150,000 miles on it. When I first got the car, I had what was called automatic transmission lockout where I could not get the car into park or retrieve my key from the ignition. No huge deal. I discover just a year ago, now, my coolant is disappearing somewhere in my car. This upsets me because it has been in numerous times for oil changes and they haven't found anything in the oil. I am not leaking anywhere and I am not burning. Bad thing is I am adding at least a jug every two to three weeks which gets pricey.

Now I am also noticing how bad the front suspension is on the cobalts. I was driving about a week ago with my wife and son and every bump or dip you could hear the front suspension creak and groan. I honestly can say I can't wait to get rid of that car for safety reasons. Like another viewer posted about the radio going black, mine has done that. I also have had it where it will start bucking for no reason and a code will pop up saying transmission. I called the dealership to see if that was part of the recall or whatever GM called it and they said it was nothing major. Nothing major ok, when I am driving and my car is bucking and not accelerating you are telling me it is nothing. Overall cobalts are a cheap way for GM to make a quick dollar.

I had to take the car in 3 different times to have them replaced within the first couple of months. Was told it was a common problem. The speakers in the car take turns working. Sometimes the front work but usually they don't work at all, and the back go in and out. 2011, my key got stuck in the ignition after an hour drive to work and car would not shut off. Had to turn around drive an hour back to the dealership where my car sat for 3 hours until it was replaced. That is when I found out it was recalled.

The car occasionally will shut off if idling low. 2013, strong gas smell driving home from work. Drove to dealership, lost a full tank of gas on the way. Left it there in the parking lot. The next day they called, said it was another recall with the car. They replaced the part. Now the parking brake does not engage as of yesterday. Not good for a 5-speed. I am very disgusted that these cars are still being sold. This car has ruined me as a Chevrolet lover. I wish I could get rid of this car but no one wants it as it's not with a dime and I owe money on it.

They greased it and still it sticks. Won't fix it even though it was reported during warranty. Just bothers me that they have had recalls for this vehicle and I received just the ignition recall. But I have issue with shifter, seems like it has a plastic guide for the shift to flout thru and if it is out of alignment the key won't turn off unless I jiggle the shifter handle. Brought it back with warranty I thought was in effect still and told me it ran out and it would cost me to replace it, $200. If you're hearing the sound while turning left, your right bearing is bad; turning right, your left bearing is bad. If left unfixed you will run the risk of your wheel falling off. Hope that helps someone! This has not happened on my 2007 Cobalt LT, but my other vehicle. I have actually had very good luck with mine, very minor issues. I bought my 2009 Cobalt LT brand new (8 miles driving from lot) in November of 2008. I can honestly say the issues started not long after driving from the lot. First, alarm system kept going off when NO ONE was around (Dealership fixed that - after first telling me that it was not possible for alarm to beep on its own). There was the first recall on the car (I actually cannot remember now - not the steering column recall though). I have had noises in the front that cannot be explained and a flex pipe that had broken in the middle, which mechanic told me that in all his years, he had never seen that and it wasn't my fault. He found that it was covered by warranty in book - but dealership said NO, it's not covered. The book is worded wrong and I read it wrong but without a huge argument the dealership agreed to fix it under warranty this one time and only one time then told me, "This is a very common problem and you must have been too hard on the car".

But, I would actually be willing to forget all these other issues if someone, somewhere would give me an answer to the next problem (and the one that really gets me fired up)!!!! My fuel pump is located INSIDE my gas tank!! I have been told (by several mechanics and Chevy dealers, etc.) that my fuel pump should NEVER or RARELY ever need to be replaced. So, when my car would all the sudden just shut off while I am driving on a highway (doing approx. 70 mph during rush hour), the fuel pump was the last thing we were told to try replacing. Months actually went by with this happening on and off again (NO engine light on though) and the last resort was to drop the gas tank and take a look. I was beyond livid when the fuel pump was taken out and it was melted/charred/had been on fire or whatever at some point (and probably for months I'm told) and sitting in a tank of gasoline!!

Fine... Tell me why?!?! The pump was checked by an independent auto electrician (he didn't even want to look at it because he was so angry that it even happened at all, he could not tell me why, but said that I must have a Guardian Angel - WTF!?!?) and taken to dealership to be inspected (they were NO help in the beginning when I was trying to figure out the problem - but after seeing the pump I was surprised when they bent over backwards to find the correct part and try to get it at a discounted price - Really!?!?). I just about hit the roof when I call and call but get NO ANSWERS!! This is what I know... I live in Pennsylvania. Bought the car in Pennsylvania. Chevy has a recall for this same fuel pump BUT only in California (possibly a few other states with similar climate to California). My VIN number for my Pennsylvania Car is actually a California VIN Number. No One knows why the car is in Pennsylvania (dealership seemed confused, corporate told me nothing).

I would have been covered by some recall IF I lived in California!! However, I'm in Pennsylvania. The climate in Pennsylvania is NOT the same as California, so my car is NOT covered under this recall because the warmer climate in California actually causes the recall issue with the pump!!!! That is what I am told. The reason I am SOOOO UPSET is the fact that my 3 year old daughter has been tightly and securely strapped into her car seat in the backseat of my Cobalt (actually sitting on TOP of the gas tank) this whole time this problem has been occurring - I am told NOT to even bother with the fuel pump (definitely NOT the problem). Months go by, the fuel pump is burning/melting/very hot inside a tank of gasoline (whatever was happening), and I want to know one thing... Why do I still have NO answers and why didn't Chevy replace it/recall it? Because I have a feeling I'm NOT alone here??

If that piece of ** caught fire and my 3 year old was secured in her car seat (only to be sitting on TOP of the ** gas tank with the faulty/recalled - whatever the truth about the pump really is), I wonder then if I would have answers?!?! It makes me very emotional and sick to even think about it. I would just like clarification here (if I am wrong about the above information, then please correct me. These were the only things that have EVER been explained to me about issue). Any answers would be appreciated!!

Own 2005 Chevy Cobalt. Have had the problem of my car just expectantly losing power while driving. I will hit a bump and hear a ding noise then the controls will start to go all over. And when I go to stop, it is like my car is going to shut off. Once I accelerate during this time it is hard to move. I have videotaped this happening while driving and have also had multiple mechanics, one actually being in the car with me when it happened, look into this only to tell me they have no clue what causes it. Has anyone else had this issue??

I started my 08 Chevy Cobalt one night to run to the store, when I got back home and went to turn the key back into the off position, it would not turn. So in conclusion, I had to keep my car running all night long and take it to the mechanics in the morning. I had lost half a tank of gas and had to pay $260 to have it fixed but the only way they were able to fix it was to cut my hole around the key bigger so they could get the cover off b/c the key was stuck.

Well I own a 2006 Chevy Cobalt 5-speed. I bought it brand new with 8 miles. The first month the driver's side seat adjustments broke and Chevy would fix, even though it was under warranty, then shortly after my front speakers quit working, every time I turn while backing I get a loud noise in my front end. Also I have had to replace my metal coolant hose twice because the cover that's over the engine sits directly on top of it and the vibration wears a hole in the metal tube. Don't even let me get started the upholstery in this vehicle because water alone stains it. My door seals have been replaced because something in the door rips them.

Also my rear window defrosters fell off and no one can seem to fix them. My door handles literally have to be yanked on because they choose when they want to open. My emergency brake handle has busted twice. My newest feature is my ignition when it decides if it wants to turn my key or not. I have had the power steering recall fixed, but what's funny my light on the panel didn't come on till they put the new one in. Not to mention the original muffler for the car is 542.00 to replace (crazy).

What does work--it took me 6.5 years to replace my first clutch and 6.5 years to replace my brakes and 7.5 years to replace my first battery at cost of 145.00. My alternator is still running excellent and my starter is just fine. I've never replaced any of my lights. I've had to replace my tires yearly even with regular rotations and alignments (I live in southwest PA - potholes are daily hazards). Then again my Chevy emblems have cracked in the cold and falling off. I have no power accelerating if my a/c is on. I have to turn it off till my RPMs are up. Now when my heater is on when I come to a stop my car shuts off. So I lost count of the pros and cons of my Cobalt.

I've owned my Cobalt for a year now. Bought the car to be my daily driver. Bought it with 150k on it. It's a 2006 Cobalt ls. Best friend has one also. She knows how to start it and drive, that's it. She's lucky if she remembers to change the oil. Hers is at 152k and runs like brand new. I have some surface rust but, the car is almost 8 years old and I live in a very snowy salty place. It goes everywhere in the snow that I want it to, always starts, and gets me there on 35 mpg. The only problems I've run into are the car had a bad ground wire in the ignition switch. Tore it apart myself and cleaned. It costed nothing.

At about 198,000 miles I saw milky oil residue on my oil cap, freaked out thought I had a blown gasket. Turns out I just had to replace all the seals in the engine and a new timing belt (was never done but should be done every 100k). It was a $75 fix and then just my time to fix it. Last thing is bushings, it was less than $100 to fix. I've had a lady run a red light and hit the front. It hit a deer before I bought it. It was backed into by a lady in a truck last week ($2500 insurance check) and it rolled down my driveway into a rock and it's still going like it's brand new. I haven't fixed the damages and you can't even tell people hit me.

I paid $3500 for this car and have no complaints. Me and the bf drove to New York and back all in one day and no problems. For a car with a msrp less than $17k (a throw away car), it's a nice car. I expect that I can pull at least 350000 miles outta mine, I've already made my money back. If you think it's such a horrible car, find someone that has a Neon or Focus the same year and compare cars - you love your Cobalt when you're done!

I bought the 2007 Cobalt brand new from Manfredi Chevrolet in Staten Island, NY and took possession on 9/27/2007. Approximately 2 years after I took possession, the driver's side rear window stopped working. It would not go up or down. I swapped the switch assembly from the driver's side to the rear passenger side and found that the switches were not defective. I took the car to the dealer's service department to have this issue looked at. I was told that the tech did not find anything wrong but because it was a Saturday, I should bring the car in during the week so that a more qualified tech could look at the issue. Because my schedule was really hectic at the time, I never brought the car back.

About one month after this took place, the front driver's side window stopped working also but after several weeks, it mysteriously began to work again. About 2 weeks ago, it stopped working again. On Monday, 7/8/13, the passenger front window stopped working also. At this point, the only window that is working is passenger rear window.

Financially speaking, I'm not in a position to have this issue looked at because the car is no longer under warranty and because it will probably cost a lot of money. I did contact someone at socialmedia@gm.com and aside from trying to make an appointment with the dealer for me, they more or less washed their hands of the matter because the car is no longer under warranty. I've been on a forum that catalogues the various issues with the Cobalt and became very worried that I'm driving an unsafe car. I truly feel that GM should address these various issues under the recall process just so as to protect their reputation. I am so sorry that I bought this car.

Well, on Monday, 11/12/2012, I had taken the car in because it was making a clunking sound coming from the front end when going over bumps. The dealer said that it was the steering column and steering shaft that cost me $927.69, because my car was no longer under warranty, so I paid it! I called the corporate office on the very next day, told them what happened. They had no answer for me; they had to call me back the next day and said, "Well, it's the wear and tear on the car, ma'am. It has too many miles." It has 105,696 miles and you're telling me that my steering column and steering shaft has too many miles.

I am really, really upset about this, that Chevy would say that I can understand if it was my trans, or my motor but come on, really, a steering column and steering shaft on a 2009? My husband has a 2000 GMC pick up truck and it almost has 200,000 miles on it and we have not had to replace the steering column or steering shaft for that matter. I purchased my 2005 Cobalt in 2009 with about 35,000 miles on it. Since then, I have had the power steering motor recall repair done twice, but the problems quickly returned each time. Reaching out to GM customer service for support, I have been met with nothing but trouble. The dealership I worked with said that the power steering motor must not have been the problem and sent me away. In contacting GM about this, they said that I "should" be responsible for the diagnostic tests and repairs. I have researched this problem and found that I am certainly not the only one who has gone through it.

It would seem that the true problem, at least for my model year, is an issue with the BCM or ECM. The car randomly stalls, the battery has been drained once within two days of having last driven it, none of the gauges on the dashboard work (particularly the speedometer which rests on zero, and the fuel gauge does not move no matter how much gas is in the car), and the car struggles to get out of second gear (it is an automatic). The car is out of warranty and would have been even if I had purchased a used car warranty (the problems didn't begin until 2010) and Chevy has been basically unresponsive to my concerns.

I was offered a potential trade in and when I informed them that I was not in a position to purchase a new car, this offer was taken off the table entirely. They have offered to pay at most 50% of the repair costs, which seems unfair because I did not do anything to cause this problem and have maintained my car properly. This is clearly a problem with the manufacturing of the vehicle, or with the parts used in the manufacture, and it's appalling to force a customer to pay for their mistake. Unfortunately, the state where the car is registered, Maryland, does not include used cars under their lemon law statutes, although the car is not currently located there as it has not been drivable since May 2012.

I bought my 2008 Chevy Cobalt brand new. It has got 19,500 miles on it. I brought in it for a recall on the ignition. The key would get stuck and it wouldn't turn and I had a hard time pulling the key out. When the guy came out to talk to me, he said there was something wrong with my shifter. Occasionally, I did have a problem getting it out of park but I didn't think much of it until he had mentioned that it needed to be repaired. So he "fixed" that and $520 later, I walked out to my car to find that my remote didn't work.

The guy accused me of dropping it. It worked when I brought the car in. He calibrated it and didn't charge me, big deal. Four days later, I went to get in my car and the remote didn't work. I used the key, put it in the ignition and the car didn't start. To top it off, I can't get the key out of the ignition. I had to have it towed to the dealer. The guy that towed my car said the battery had a very low voltage. I explained about the repairs and his opinion was that the dealership crossed some wires or did something wrong to cause that.

The dealership said I needed a new battery. So $200 later and a brief discussion that possibly they screwed something up, I walked out of there disgusted. The very next day (today), I went out to my car, started it and went to release the emergency brake and lo and behold, it's broken. I called the dealer again and he told me my car is possessed. I told him that I feel they definitely broke it because in order to fix the shifter, that whole piece had to come off which includes the emergency brake. I told him I felt I shouldn't be charged. The service guy then asked me when the last time I used my emergency brake. Really! Aside from the recall and the shifter, the car was okay for 5 years.

Well, that's enough to be wrong with it. But the point is, after the original visit, it seems like the car is falling apart and it's costing me nearly $1000. To make matters worse, I'm treated like a stupid "woman." My dad was a mechanic so I do know my way around a car somewhat. I'm not the idiot they made me out to feel like. I've looked up the 2008 Cobalt and found a lot of complaints on different sites. I think there might be a possible class action lawsuit here.

I've taken the car back to the dealership several times throughout the past four years for the same ongoing issues. First, I noticed that my car would jerk when it reached about 45 mph and it wasn't until June 2012 that they addressed the problem by changing the converter. I would hear rattling in my car that the dealership said was due to lack of insulation between the transmission and the power module.

Since 2008, on dozens of occasions, my vehicle gauges will fluctuate rapidly back and forth. The dash alarms beep, the digital dash will flash every warning symbol and the car lock comes on followed by my car jerking very hard, making it not drivable. Sometimes pulling off the road and restarting the vehicle will stop the issue, but on a few occasions it did not, resulting in having it towed on one occasion or waiting on the side of the road for a ride to work. The dealership has not been able to figure out what is happening to my car. I made a complaint with GM and, at that time, the dealership changed the power module in 2010. In June 2012, they changed the converter and I have had five of the same incidents since. I need a reliable vehicle and being that this car was paid in full in 2010, I believe I was sold a lemon.

I'm not sure if the head cover gasket, injectors and other parts were replaced. They were all done at Chevy dealerships and reported on the car history. I've had my car serviced regularly, so that is not the problem. Every time I was in the shop for repair, I was told that it was a manufacture defect. No, my car was out of warranty and burning about a quart of oil in a month time. I was told that the last parts that were replaced in the engine were defective and it would be expensive to repair.

I called the dealer that performed the engine repair and they said that the major part replaced was not covered under warranty, because the vehicle is no longer under the drive train warranty. I attempted to trade in the car, but they told me that since the engine repair was noted on the car report, it depreciated the value to $2,000 leaving me upside down on my vehicle, that there was nothing I could do. I had traded my 05 Nissan Altima in 04, that I purchased brand new for this Chevy Cobalt. I had it for 4 years, and all I did was the regular maintenance and tires. I never had a problem with it.

They tried to fix many times, but insisted it happened because I did a lot of start and stop driving because I am a hospice home care nurse requiring me to drive to many locations throughout the day. After I ran off the road, surprise, there was a recall. Then my remote stopped working many times and again, has stopped working but now out of warranty and I cannot pay to replace either of them.

The door handle on the driver side has all but fallen off, out of warranty again. The tire pressure sensor has never worked correctly despite having repaired multiple times. Now again, out of warranty. The car shakes when breaking. Again, service on warranty now out of warranty and the same problem. I cannot even remember the multiple issues while under warranty. I have no money as I have a sick child with many medical expenses, but I'm fearful to continue to drive. So I took it to the dealer.

In 2008, I decided to break down and purchase my first new car because I needed something dependable and reliable for a change. I decided on the Cobalt because I loved the Cavaliers and the Cobalts are their replacement. Since I have had the car, I have had nothing but problems with it. The first thing to go wrong was the power steering. I was driving down the freeway when all of a sudden, my power steering quit working causing me to almost wreck into a cement wall. It turns out they had just been forced to recall this issue, and I was able to get mine fixed for free.

The next thing to happen was my A/C cooling switch went out and that was not covered by the Powertrain warranty (I had 41,000 miles and the bumper to bumper ended at 36,000 miles) so I paid to have it replaced. Then the wheel bearing went out, which again cost me a pretty big chunk of change. For about 2 years now, when I press the brake, the steering wheel shakes and the problem has been slowly getting worse. Of course, Chevrolet says this is my responsibility as well. Both of my remotes to lock/unlock, etc. are not working, again my responsibility. Now for the last week, my car has been smelling like gasoline.

This is the most cheated I have ever felt in my life. These are not random defects. These defects are posted all over the internet, by thousands of Cobalt owners, yet Chevrolet says they are not responsible for repairing any of these things when they are major safety issues, not to mention deadly (the gas leaking/smell seeping out). They should be forced to repair these defects that are their fault and their responsibility, not the consumers who are still paying for these vehicles. I cannot afford to pay for these huge repair costs over defects that should legally be Chevrolet's responsibility but I also know that all of us who are having the fuel leaking issue are in danger until they are forced to do something about it.

They were forced to fix the issue on 2006-2007 models but not 2008 and there are way too many 2008 models having this issue for them not to do something about it along with some of these other problems. Every problem I have had besides the A/C switch is a recurring issue that thousands and thousands of other Cobalt owners are painfully experiencing and Chevrolet needs to be held accountable. I am afraid to drive my car due to the fuel leak, but I also do not have over $1,000 to fix the issue and I do not feel like I should have to pay since this is a very common problem affecting thousands of people. Can't somebody step in and help all of us? Do we have to wait for another death before Chevrolet is again forced to do something about something so dangerous?

The only reason the power steering issue was corrected by Chevrolet is because a death occurred due to the issue and they were forced to. Someone else should not have to die due to their faulty mistakes before they take action, and I don't want to have to blow up in the car before they decide "maybe we should fix this issue". Someone please help. I don't want money or a new car, I just want the dangerous issues on my car fixed because Chevrolet is responsible for these issues (except for the A/C problem, I haven't seen anybody have that issue).

Deficiencies in Chevrolet Cobalt: My warranty expires on March 27, 2012. I have had to have the car repaired on numerous occasions (all due to original car deficiencies). Since this is still ongoing (March 16, 2012), I am asking for an additional year's warranty on the car. I have already purchased the power train insurance, but that has a $100 deductible each time there is an occurrence. Here is the history of my car:

It was purchased on March 17, 2009. It was back in to the dealer on March 31, 2009. Then the car was delivered without rear suspension insulators, and MR48CVZ Recall Shift lever indicator may not display. Retainer clip was completed. Back in April 3, 2009, there's installation of rear suspension insulators. Then on 5/8/09, the tire pressure monitor light was on. Tire pressure was subsequently reset.

On 6/26/09, it had low tire pressures (have OnStar reports). Ferman recommended nitrogen kit, and I paid for this change. Then on 12/7/09, the battery was dead (the second time). So new battery was installed. Later on 6/25/10, the campaign power steering assist ordered parts and performed an oil change. Again, on 7/29/10, they performed campaign loss of steering assist. Tire pressures were low. And nitrogen was reset.

On 2/9/11, Both remote door openers do not work. Consequently, they were replaced and reprogrammed FOB transmitters. Also, the gear shift did not indicate gear position. This is caused by Auto Trans floor shifter control indicator binding jam. They replaced auto transmission floor shifter control. Lastly, they reset tire pressures.

This 1/31/12, the turn signals would not turn off after turns completed. Then they replaced turn signal switch. To add, there were rattles from the front of the car on bumpy roads. Swaybar bushings was ordered as well as the insulator. On next visit, however, I was told this was not the problem. Then they reset tire pressure with nitrogen. Then on 2/20/12, Rattles were heard in front on bumpy roads. I found Power Assist steering column. And there were loose, worn gears making noise. They replaced power assist steering column.

There's also a loud clunk in the rear area at times when going over speed bumps (cannot find the reason). It happened again since this visit, 3/16/12. There's rattling in dash area. They then replaced HVAC Control module. Now, left rear window would not go down. And I found the driver's rear power window

    motor open to ground.

Also, there's a l loud clunk in rear occasionally when going over speed bump. Unrealized 219925020: SHIELD (07371-PC) and unrealized 22712118: bumper (97395-PC). Special components were ordered. So I need to return next week to have this work completed. I have had nitrogen added several times between these recorded times, and no paperwork was done since that was all I needed. Each trip to the dealer requires an approximately 50-mile round trip.

It seems that the problems with this car may not be over, and I would like to know that any problems caused by the manufacturing of the car will be covered without a $100 deductible. I do like the styling of my car and love to drive it, except on highways, when it is not the steadiest car.

The only way to turn the car off is to disconnect the battery while the car is running, mind you. I found a Service Bulletin 10256 from GM for 2009 Cobalts with the same problem. The problem is that the dealer and GM say it does not apply to my 2009 Cobalt. I found other users saying that they had to pay, too. On May 24, 2006, I bought my very first car, which was a brand new 2006 Chevy Cobalt. Now, I am counting down the days until I trade this in. I am miserable at best. In 2010, I had the privilege of my power steering going out while I was on the expressway. I am grateful that I didn't end up injured. I wrote and called General Motors requesting a goodwill repair, for which I was turned down.

Not long after, the power steering was recalled and it ended up fixed due to the goodwill of a Service Dept. manager who didn't feel comfortable knowing a heavily pregnant woman was driving an unsafe car. Not even two years into having this car, my front speakers shorted out. I don't have the money to fix something like speakers, but it is frustrating that I'm paying for something I cannot use properly. My keyless remote only works for the trunk, which means I have to manually unlock my car (which makes the alarm go off every time).

General Motors and Chevrolet completely destroyed my confidence in them with the Cobalt. Now, when I try to trade this lemon in, nobody wants it. I find that it's virtually worthless. I read today that GM has made a rather nice profit. I think they should buy back all 2005-2010 Cobalts and admit it was a mistake. I mean, why else did they come out with the Cruze? They know Cobalts are lemons. Now I'm stuck with this terrible riding car with only working rear speakers. Oh, and the radio gets moody sometimes and doesn't want to turn off or on. Great.

I love my Chevy Cobalt, but recently I could smell gas in and out of the car. My dad said it was the fuel injector, so I did a check online, looking for a possible recall for the fuel injector. The recall was for the 2007 to get the FI replaced because the casings would crack, and it would leak and possibly cause a fire. My dad called the dealer and was told there were no recalls, so my cousin who owns a shop looked it up and found one. So the fuel injector was replaced and the one that was on the car was cracked and leaking. This could have caused more than a fire--it could have blown up while I was driving. GM will not pay up, denying that my car is part of the recall. Now, I am wondering if there is a class action suit from others who have had this issue. I'm not looking for a new car or a ton of money, just the cost of the injector that should have put a mandatory safety recall on!

My 2005 Chevy Cobalt just shut off while I was driving it down the highway. I was actually very close to my off ramp so I just got off and coasted to a stop. All the electrical devices worked, lights, instruments, radio, but the Cobalt would not start up again. I have called Chevy's customer service center about five times and they will not tell me how I can take my complaint higher up the GM chain. Even if I get the Cobalt to start back up again at the local Chevy dealer, I'm not guaranteed that the engine won't just shut off on me again. Next time I'm driving it once I get it looked at or fixed and the engine decides to shut off, I could be in an intersection and I could get t-boned. I could get rear-ended. I may not have control of the issue and maybe get seriously injured. Not to mention I have a one-year old son that could be in the back car seat with me as well.

Chevy customer service told me there is nothing that can be done and completely ignored my valid safety complaint of driving this Cobalt and then they tried to downplay the issue saying there has not been enough cases of this issue. Chevy should really look into this problem. It should never take a death to finally get results with a problem like this. If I had enough money, I would just sell this car and go buy a new car but like most families, I'm handcuffed until my wife gets employment and I finish my undergrad up next year. Times are tough with money! How about a little customer satisfaction from Chevy that they are at least working the 2005 Cobalt issues?

I own a 2005 Chevy Cobalt, that I purchased used from Enterprise car sales in Fairfax ,VA. Car had 36,000 miles on the clock. All was well, until the brakes were pulsing badly. Pads were good, and rotors were not scored. I had the rotors turned. 3280 miles later same results. Looked up blogs to look for brake problems. I removed OEM rotors with high performance rotors, and new pads. The new rotors are thicker than OEM, with more material on both sides. Brakes are fine since. 78,000 miles and the steering recall was done by Moore Cadillac in Chantilly, VA.

At 79,000 miles, "power steering" alarm started to "ding" and become a regular problem. Cycling the ignition stopped this sometimes. I purchased new steering motor from eBay. I replaced it myself, due to Moore Cadiliac indicated it would cost approximately $330.00 to replace. Simple remove and replace. 82,000 miles, and the power steering problem is back. I tore down the old assist motor, cleaned, lubed and installed it, and it is working now. As of today, the steering column is making various noises, which include sounds like, the stabilizers up front (on each side of the steering rack) are broken off.

By the way, I replaced those OEM parts with grease-able aftermarket parts from Advance Auto. I truly believe the steering rack/steering column is in a bind, incorrect alignment, and this causes the force, and binding, to be placed on the steering column, causing noise and possible binding, leading to possible lock-up. U-joint in the steering seems to be under too much of a load. U-joints can telescope vibration and noise in drive shafts, very easily. Would like to replace the U-joint with a grease-able one if I could find one.

Power steering units commonly apply force where the loading is. The Cobalt has the power-assist motor on the upper part of the column. I look at the change in the Cruze, now it's on the steering rack outside. I was able to bind up the steering with the car on my lift, while running. GM is lucky that more deaths are not associated with this, and I'm only a wrench-turner on weekends. I used to work for CAT, and worked for two trucking companies for several years. I'm a BEE but I'm also the type to apply best Engineering practices in the things I rebuild, or modify. This system isn't engineered correctly.

I am still driving the 2005 Cobalt, but only on my commute. Problems are still happening (noise and binding feeling), coming from steering column. I tried to sell it, but too many asking about the "known steering problem". I have decided to keep and engineer a fix on my own, or wait till GM comes up with a true fix.

Today, I am so disappointed with the way Chevrolet handles the complaints that you have with your vehicle. I have been in touch with customer service since Monday concerning this matter. I have a 2007 Cobalt which was purchased new. I started smelling gas in the garage in the mornings when I would get ready to leave for work. There are no leaks anywhere. I was told that the fuel modular had to be replaced. When they were installing the modular they noticed that it was working fine, but the fuel tank had a crack in it. How can a car that has 56,630 miles, 4 years old, never in an accident have a fuel tank crack?

I took the car to an independent shop to have the tank repaired because the Chevrolet dealer in my town told me that they could not beat the price. Now, according to Chris in your customer service dept on Monday I was told that this was not covered by warranty. Now today, she tells me that she cannot make a case because the tank has been removed from the car and replaced.

At this point, I am very upset. It ended up costing me $900.00 to fix this problem when I could have taken it to the dealer to be diagnosed ($85.00) for them to look at it. But because the dealer blew me off, I am stuck paying this bill out of my pocket, when clearly there is a problem concerning the fuel tanks. After researching today on line, I found out that there are quite a few customers who complain about this situation. I believe that Chevrolet needs to look into this matter and take its customers seriously.

I have had nothing but problems with this car from the shifter popping off, to the passenger door handle, just coming off in my hand when I went to open the door, to the steering on this car.

I have had the steering fixed twice on this car already, and now I had to pay $105.00 diagnostic fee to Sands Chevrolet in Glendale Arizona for them to tell me it would cost another $850.00 to fix the steering once again. I cannot afford this fee, so does that mean I have to continue driving a car that is unsafe?

I don't understand why there hasn't been some recall. Where is your company's appreciation towards consumers? I really would appreciate an explanation as to why GM sells a vehicle, that has so many steering problems, and will not own up to their mistakes, and fix these cars for the safety of their consumers.

I am having a lot of issues with this Chevy Cobalt. They are not new issues but when I take it to the dealership, everyone there seems to have no idea what I am talking about. Since I have owned the car, I have had a problem with the locks as I am driving along, constantly locking and unlocking. The lights on the dashboard work when they feel like it; the air conditioning constantly leaks (now it stopped working altogether); the steering wheel is very hard to turn (the recall to have it fixed only made the steering worse); and now, my biggest concern is every time it rains or gets hot outside, the engine powers down and the car starts shaking violently.

I made several trips to various dealerships and paid to have things on the car fixed like the air conditioning for example, and it's still not right. Last year, when I went to see why the engine kept powering down (paid $129.00 just for them to look at it), I was told after six or seven hours that they could not find anything and sent me on my way. This is absolutely crazy. These are serious concerns of mine. This is my second GM vehicle, and I don't understand why GM can't stand behind the product that they put on the streets for consumers. I have had most of these problems for six years and I have only owned the car for six years which would mean that this car was probably a lemon from the start.

As a consumer I don't deserve to have gone through the issues I have with this car, and I am shocked every time I see an advertisement for a Cobalt because I was duped into believing that after my good experience with the Chevy Metro, this too would be a great purchase. Needless to say, I want my next experience with a car to be a lot less frustrating so GM will probably be at the bottom of my list. And as far as all of these invisible problems that your mechanics can't seem to see or don't want to see because they may all end up factory defects, I think it is really sad that you would be willing to sell a bad product to a consumer and not even care how it affects the people that are sitting on the side of the road and can't get home to their families (I have seen a lot of Cobalts on the side of the road).

I would just like to know what happened to the integrity of this company, a company that is known for presenting a good product, a product people could believe in. I would like to have been able to drive my car at night, in the rain or even when it's hot outside without worrying if I'm going to make it home safely or not. I won't even speak of how rude and inattentive the people you have working in these dealerships can be. It's really unbelievable. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way, but I guess since I am just one of the many people that spend their hard earned money making payments on cars that should have never been sold in the condition that they were in, these issues will remain and not be made priority by General Motors!

The real matter is the new 2010 cobalt xfe I purchased no a/C unit, is now to my knowledge unable to be equipped with a genuine gm a/C kit, (not available) this is appalling consider the billions of the vehicles. The representative of gmcac treated me as victim of circumstance, and as if on a witness stand in a court of law, what he didn't know was I had just been on jury duty within the last week. Yes, attorney's can be proactive to help or be slime balls protecting the bad guy, as you can guess my perception of where is this representative sets in my mind. I just wanted a new car with new warranty at an affordable price. This is hard to find in our current American market. To prove the point I gladly accept manual windows, manual seat adjustments manual transmission, I agreed to take the car after going thru finance without even test driving it , as I trusted this long time Chevrolet dealer.

Honestly, I was at a loss for words when the car had been brought up from the ok to wash and on final delivery, got thru the onstar call and then as ready to drive off. I was then advised oh by the way you know this car has no a/C! Yes I am repeating my story, you see my selling dealer keeps telling me they are looking into a resolution, but reality I am the one making all the calls.

And on top of this a long time competing Chevrolet dealer brownbrown Chevrolet has heard my concern has called me numerous times to try and help, yet they are not the ones who sold the vehicle, this is much appreciated, yet the only they can offer is to me another car and I have to come up with a substantial down due to the fact I have a product not many be desired especially in the state of AZ, where months we have over 100 degree weather! Just to set the background I worked for years assisting general motors customers thru Chevrolet, Buick, Oldsmobile, Cadillac roadside services at eds corporation formerly at 10210 s 50th plc Phoenix, Az. Also my family in Iowa years ago owned and sold Chevrolet vehicles. I know what it takes to care, and think outside the box when there is difficult situation presented.

My husband, Shawn, and I purchased a pre-owned 2006 Chevy Cobalt last summer for our son who was just getting his driver's license. The check engine light was on when we purchased the car and we were told that it had been checked and was just the gas cap that needed to be replaced and not to worry. The day we bought the car, we were on our way home and the traction control light came on and the car started shifting very hard from gear to gear. We had bought an extended warranty so I called our local Chevy dealer and set up an appointment. They had the car for a day and said that the problem was in a hose that was crushed. The light was off but before we made it home, it was on again.

I was ready to give up. No one could figure out the problem and then last week was the last straw for me. I was taking my son to practice and had my 2-year old and mother in the car. I pulled onto the highway and as soon as I gave the car a little gas, the traction control light came on and the car died in the middle of the road, in a curve on a busy highway.

I was scared to death. I got my family out of the car and left it sit hoping it would not be hit. Not to mention the loose steering it has had since we got it. Now once again, it is sitting at a Chevy dealership waiting to see if they can figure out the problem once and for all. Also we received a recall notice about the steering and we have called 2 times about the recalled part and have been told it is not available yet. I no longer feel safe in this car and certainly will not have my teenage son with a new license driving a car that is not reliable or safe in our opinion.

I called the Chevy dealership to see if I could bring my car (2008 Chevy Cobalt) in for the power steering recall before I go out of town in a few weeks. I was told that, as long as it is in the system, they could fix it. They checked my specific car and it isn't flagged as needing a recall! I know they were recalling the older models first, have they just not gotten around to the newer models yet? I have over 31,000 miles on it now and don't want the power steering to go out while I'm traveling... What should my next steps be?

My 2007 Chevy Cobalt was bought brand-new on 02/07. I had it now for 3 years and 1 month. The dealership was the only one I've had to work with on the car. I had the steering column replaced about 3 times, maybe four. Finally, I got the knocking noise and shaking steering wheel to stop when I got to 55-65mph. In between them, I was told the catalytic converter needed replacing because it was what made the noise. That's a $1500.00 part and luckily was covered under warranty at the time. Tires wore out after only 2 years and 35,000 miles, and it needed a front-end alignment.

Now, my biggest problem is the shifter and ignition. The key will not come past "acc," and therefore has to stay in the ignition. The shifter button was sticking, but with some jiggling, it would unstick and thus key was allowed to come out. Now the shifter button is stuck inward permanently which not only means the car can be shifted in and out of gear with a bump but also means the key is stuck permanently now.

Since the car is electronically controlled, my remote doesn't work nor can I lock the car, leaving it very available for theft. Or, I can lock it but the driver door must be manually locked since it knows the key is in the ignition which leads to the next problem. If the car isn't started every so often, the battery dies; and therefore, the remote won't allow me to open it up.

I had to "break" into the hood to get to the terminals to charge it. I had only one key and one remote, as the other set was misplaced. The only thing that would help is the key to unlock the driver door should the battery die, otherwise both are useless. Now my warranty is expired, and nothing is covered except the drive train.

I brought my 2008 Chevy Cobalt LT in May of 2009. It had 21,030 miles on it and after driving it for two months, my check engine light came on. I took my car back to the dealership. They told me that I had a cylinder that was not working properly. Mind you, it took them almost a month to fix this problem. After driving my car two more months, the check engine light came on again but this time, my hazard light had stopped working as well. I called the dealership to have them look at it. They told me they can't see me until the following Monday. What do you think happened, the very next day my birthday mind you I was in a car accident.

Once the repairs were done to my car, my hazard lights were still not working but then my turn signals worked on and off and my radio/CD player would freeze. Once again, I took my car back to the dealership and they told me there's nothing wrong with the car. That's when I started having problems with my tires. I had to have my tires patched every two to three weeks and it was pulling to the right terribly. You can imagine by this time I felt like the car was a complete piece of junk.

Back to the dealership once again, "oh I'm sorry Ms. **" so they tell me. "There is nothing wrong with you car". I went and got a second opinion, they told me I need an alignment. I paid for the alignment and less than a week later, my hazard lights were broken again and the car was pulling to the left. I took the car back to the dealership and they said "you need an alignment", so I had to pay to get it done again because it was not under warranty and it was supposedly caused by wear and tear.

Can you believe that I had to take my car back again yesterday for the same problems? The dealership said this time that when you pull off, the car pulls to the left but it's not something they can fix and the tires have pinholes that came from wear and tear. I don't know about anybody else but I feel they should give me another car that actually works but the problems I'm having don't fall under lemon law, so once again I'm rushed out the door. There is no real sense of customer service, just people who want you out their face now that they have their money. I don't know what to do. Can someone please guide me in the right direction? I'm out of money, I missed time from work and put miles on my car from having to drive 45 minutes to the dealership for my car to still be broken.

I have a 2007 Cobalt, which is not even 3 years old. I took my car to a Chevy dealer for loose steering problem. They replaced some stabilizer arms and control arms. They said, "completely worn" I drove vehicle for a week or two. The steering is still loose. I took it back and indicated I was experiencing the same problem. They test drove and indicated there was no problem. I took it back a third time and they test drove with me in the vehicle on the expressway for maybe 10 or 15 minutes.

They said there was nothing wrong. Test driving for 10 or 15 minutes does not determine it is okay. I have been driving my car for 2 close to 3 years and I know the steering is still loose and not sturdy. I took it to another dealer, who performed a test drive and indicated they could not duplicate my complaint. Since the car was almost three years old maybe they just do that. I also put in a claim to the GM representative about the steering problems and when do I take my car to the dealer to have my steering motor replaced.

He said they were recalling vehicle by Vin number and mine was not one of those to be recalled. He could not offer me any assistance. I am completely dissatisfied that they would not even offer the courtesy of reviewing my claim since I was experiencing the same problem and it has not been resolved. I still do not have peace of mind driving my car, I am out of pocket of 545.00 and my steering is still loose when I drive.

While searching the internet to see if anyone else has the same problem and how to fix it, I found that there is a long list of consumers with the same problem. They are being told by their dealers that they can't find a problem yet. It continues to happen with no acknowledgement from GM to fix an obvious safety problem.

In 2009, my wife was driving the Cobalt to the store and the power-steering went out. I thought it was just low in fluid, but come to find out its electronic power steering and that its something only the dealer can fix. The power steering goes out while driving.

I was told that it would cost me up to $2500.00 to get this fixed and I can't afford this. I've also had to get a gas leak fixed that was recalled on my vehicle as well. I just want GMC to fix their problems because I did not cause the power steering to go out or the gas to leak. They fixed one of the problems, all I want is the power steering fixed so my wife and 4 children do not have an accident.

In March of 2008, I purchased a brand new '08 Chevrolet Cobalt and in November of 2009 the power steering begin having issues. It goes out randomly while driving and this is very dangerous. I have been told by the warranty company and the deal that Chevrolet accepts no responsibility for this and it is left to the consumer to pay out of pocket expenses to have it fixed. I should not be having to deal with this serious type of safety issue after only one year and 10 months. I have been quoted $500 to $2500 for repair, depending on if it is just a motor or if the entire steering column will need to be replaced.

Chevrolet needs to stand up for the consumer and accept responsibility of their mechanical failure. I should not have to be paying this kind of expense on a car I purchased brand new and have only had for one year and 10 months.

I purchased a 2009 Chevy Cobalt SS Turbocharged Coupe. I love the car and have had no problems until I reached about 7,600 km. The car came with performance Brembo front brakes that began squealing, sounding like they had dirt jammed in them or they were "very" prematurely worn out. When I took them to the dealership where I purchased it, they had a look at it and consulted GM on the problem. GM sent out a bulletin that the loud squealing is an acceptable situation as it is a performance car with performance brakes. I belong to a car club and several friends have performance brakes - some with Brembo performance brakes. None have complained about this problem. I searched forums on the Internet and have found other Cobalt owners with the same problem. Their dealerships received the same bulletin from GM that it is common and not a problem. It seems to me that GM is just trying to sweep this under the table and not deal with it.

Last night the shifter assembly went out, and I have no warranty coverage on a part that shouldn't wear out during the life of the car. Also, there is no recall so I am stuck with a $306 repair bill. I'm not happy. The car also comes with crappy tires; I'll probably need to replace them in 5,000 miles. GM doesn't even have an email address I can use to complain! Consequences: I’m paying for a repair on a part that shouldn't have failed, and bad tires.

I bought a Chevy Cobalt in late 2006. I have made every payment. GMAC keeps sending me bills for 6 months of non-payment. Who misses even one car payment? Not me. They constantly call my home with their "warranty is running out." I have only had the car 2 years this August of 2008 and when I first bought it, the next morning it would not start. I had it towed back to Chevy and they replaced the battery. This happened again in June, 2008. It would not start and it was towed to Chevy in Santa Fe, NM again. They would not give me a copy of the repairs done on the car. How can I find out if this is not some car from New Orleans that was flooded? I am really thinking seriously of returning the car or getting something else and letting GMAC repo this lemon! Also, I am sick and tired of GMAC constantly harassing me about the payments. I am stressed out from GMAC's harassment. I sent them numbers of the checks for every month of car payments. I am up-to-date. I am not completely satisfied with this vehicle.

I purchased a 2007 chevy cobalt from this dealership in july of 2006, since that time i have had many problems with this vehicle. first at 5000 miles the gas gauge went from full fuel to empty. according to the dealership it was a faulty computer reading which took 2 visits to correct becasue General Motors did not have the computer chip, well this problem finally got fixed. at 18000 miles my vehicle started experiencing tremendous hesitation for which i had no idea what was wrong, once again i took the vehicle to the dealership. this time it also took a couple visits to find out what was wrong this time also,

and just the other day car now has 27000 miles on it. the check engine light came on july 15th 2008. i took it to the dealership again yesterday july 16th, first they told me it was probably the gas cap was not on tight, now i am no mechanic but i have never heard of such a thing, so i asked them to put it on the computer to test it and i found out now that it needs a fuel pump, this to me is ridicoulous to have all these problems going on with a vehicle that is barely 2 years old,

i would just like to know if someone or your company can do anything for me at this time? also i would likke to add that this dealership told me the vehicle would be ok to drive until the part came in which would be either monday july 21 or tuesday july 22 without even offering me a loaner car. so here i am driving a vehicle for which not knowing wether the fuel pump will go out any day.

econimic damage is terrible drving my car back and forth to this dealership numerous times with no reimbursment for gas or my time spent in there waiting room for which i have spent many hours there, i am extremely frustrated with thsi whole situation. i would like some advice as to what more i can do if anything. thank you for your time.
