My Chevrolet Equinox car battery went dead. No big deal. We jump started it and then discovered that the radio said "Locked". We were puzzled as to why but did our research online and found that it is a Chevrolet factory installed "Anti-Theft" feature. OK so we tried what the instructions said to do online to unlock the radio but it did not work. My husband had to call the dealer because nothing worked. The radio continued to display "LOCKED". We were told by the dealer that it would cost $150.00 for the service department to restart the radio. It is pretty amazing that your battery goes dead and your radio, GPS and Bluetooth is unusable to begin with... But to have to pay for it to be restarted is insulting to my pocketbook.
Turns out that they could not even restart it. They told us it was broken and we had to pay for an entire new radio. Now, I know the radio was locked because the word "LOCKED" was on the radio display. In the end we not only had to have the entire radio replaced but they went through our insurance and made us pay the deductible of $250.00. This is all because CHEVY INSTALLED AN ANTI THEFT DEVICE THAT IS NOT NEEDED!
If someone had stolen my radio there would be nothing I could do about it. I would have to go through my insurance and pay the same $250.00. However to have the radio "LOCKED" due to a Chevrolet factory installed feature is more than disgusting! It did not benefit me in any way, it did not benefit my insurance company in any way... But Chevrolet got more of my money out of the deal? All I can picture is if this happened on a road trip. When the radio was locked I did not have access to my GPS or bluetooth.... Shame on you Chevy! I wonder how many others this has happened to?

After being in the automotive business for over 28 years I have never seen a worse handling of a service situation in all my life!! Had a 2018 Premier Equinox that broke down about 3 hours from my home in June, was towed to a dealer in Barrie and had to arrange a way to get home. First 3 weeks they couldn't determine what was wrong with it, finally after a month they think they figured it out and had to order a part. Heard nothing back as part was on backorder. After about 5 or 6 weeks they received the part, tried to repair it then said the part was defective! Waited for another part, in this time spent hours of conversations with GM Canada as to how we would resolve this issue as we were now over 3 months in to this vehicle being broken down.
4 months passed still no resolution and on top of it all because we are a company they would not cover cost of a rental so we are now a third of a year with a useless $35,000 car that won't run and not having a loaner and having to find alternative vehicle at our expense. Tried to get GM Canada to give us info on legal dept so we can pursue compensation on our loss, they refused (Sherri) at the customer care centre, (not sure why it's called that as there is no client care!) This continues for more time, they refuse to supply a loaner, refuse to help with any compensation or offer a vehicle buyback which would be the normal thing to do but just kept waiting and waiting, after 5 months almost a half a year they finally get a part and repair the vehicle.
We asked for something as simple as having the vehicle flat-bedded here to save us from going all the way there in 2 cars to pick it up but they refuse to do that either so we spend more money to send 2 cars to go get it!! The care centre simply hung up, stopped communicating and refused to speak to us or give us any contact to take this to the next level. We will lose thousand of dollars on this transaction and they refuse to even discuss any solution to this issue, it is unbelievable how they treat people and I highly recommend anyone who is looking for a GM vehicle to stay far away from this car company!!!
The dealership in Barrie, Georgian is not to blame and did all they could but the parent company GM Canada is a total joke!! To just put the cherry on top of all this, when we got the vehicle back here we received a towing bill from GM for $160 lol!!! Like I said worst customer service ever in the history of the business and I wish nothing but terrible things for them in the future how ever short lived that may be...

August 23, 2019 we purchased a 2019 Equinox Premier in Cincinnati. On Thursday, September 19, traveling at 70 mph on our way to Pittsburgh, there was a loud noise, the car shook, the Equinox suddenly lost power and the motor went into reduced power mode. We crept to a Cracker Barrel parking lot and called OnStar. 2.5 hours later we were towed to dealer near Columbus, OH. There we were told there was a recall notice regarding the charge air cooler tube. We had not been notified.
We were told the car was fixed and continued driving. The same thing happened 2 more times in 4 days, on an interstate, in rush hour traffic. The car sat at a Pittsburgh dealership for 10 days waiting for instructions from GM customer service. We had to pay for a rental car to drive back to Cincinnati. GM told the third dealer to repair the car a third time and then had the car transported back to the Cincinnati dealership on October 4th. The dealer would not negotiate a replacement vehicle, so we drove it home and it is parked in our garage. GM knew in May there was an issue with the charge air cooler tube on certain Equinox engines but sold the cars anyway putting consumers in harm's way. We do not feel safe driving this car and want it replaced. GM customer service has been terrible so we have filed a claim with the Ohio Attorney General’s Office. If there is not a resolution with GM we will get an attorney and file a Lemon Law claim.

We purchased a used 2013 Equinox and had it for about a year before we started having issues. The first issue happened while riding home on the Interstate and the car showed the “check engine” light and within 5 minutes of driving it shut down and I coasted to the side of the highway. Had it towed to dealership and was told the timing chain went out. Luckily we had a warranty on the vehicle and they covered most of everything to have it repaired costing several thousand dollars.
Now 3.5 months later and the “check engine” light came back on. Back in the dealership and they said my catalytic converter failed along with 2 O2 sensors. Went back and forth about warranty paying... By Federal Law the catalytic converter is covered under a warranty but according to them the O2 sensors are not. Kept telling me that they could not salvage the sensors because they were melted to the old converter. Got a call and they somehow managed to salvage the sensors. Which worries me because now I’m afraid they will go out again soon or cause the converter to fail again.

My 2011 Chevrolet Equinox with 115,000 miles had catastrophic engine failure in August of 2019 due to oil consumption issues that GM and Chevrolet knew about as early as 2017 due to a class action lawsuit. Had Chevrolet told its customers about this issue I could have prevented the engine malfunction and still had a car that should have lasted at least another year or two. I reported this to Chevrolet Corporate to discuss options for them to remediate the situation. As I am a repeat and loyal customer, owning several Chevy vehicles, I asked that they offer me some sort of money towards the purchase of a vehicle to continue my relationship with Chevy as prior to the engine issue, the trade-in value would've been $4000-$5000.
I was told that my case went to the highest level of review with senior advisor, Jonathon. He was supposed to contact me on a Friday, he didn't call until the following Tuesday and didn't leave a message so I didn't even know he called. I was informed that he called when I followed up. I left 3 messages on his voicemail and left several more with others answering the phones. One person even left Jonathon a message and copied it to his supervisor. The following Friday I still have not received a call. Besides the poorly made vehicle, lack of information about faulty parts being communicated to customers, the service I received was awful. I will be purchasing a different make of vehicle and will no longer be doing business with Chevrolet and I recommend that others avoid them as well since they do not care about their customers.

By far without a doubt the absolute worst customer service I have ever encountered in 50 years!!!! If you’re thinking about buying a General Motors vehicle, I would think long and hard before you purchase. I learned the hard way. Customer service is everything on a purchase. General Motors does not have any. Mind blowing that a company as large as this just doesn’t care about the consumer. Vehicle is not safe!!! 2019 Equinox 3000 miles. General motors doesn’t care and won’t acknowledge problem. They are blaming road commission for roads being built wrong. Don’t have any problems with any other vehicles I take down these roads. Watch and see. This will become a recall as soon as a few people lose their lives. OWN UP GM!!!

I bought my 2012 Equinox used. (2.4L engine.) I was not made aware and did not know that there was a problem with the oil consumption on this vehicle. I guess that’s my fault for not researching the car before purchasing it. However, Chevy made promises they will not keep even though all calls are on a recorded line and they can go back and see what was promised to me. My Equinox has been at the garage for a month now because they are going back on their word.
Due to the oil consumption my engine went which will be around a $5,000 fix five or take a few hundred either way. Chevy now is going back on their word as to paying for the diagnostic on the vehicle. Lord knows if they are doing that then they probably won’t help pay to have it fixed. I did receive a letter in the mail regarding a class action lawsuit against Chevy regarding this matter. That there tells me all I need to know. I WILL NEVER SUGGEST TO ANYONE TO BUY FROM CHEVROLET!!! HORRIBLE!! THEY DON’T STAND BY THEIR WORD!!!

I am writing this review just because I am not satisfied with this 2019 car, I love this car but I am not happy. I had travel 3000 KM with this car and in all the times I have to put my hand on top of the gear to hide the noise. This is not faring answer for my issue and I will check all chevy 2019 1.5 LT in all branches in near me and if I found this is not just for me then this means the noise is so weird as I told on top. The technician said, "Yes I can hear this noise." and it is so weird for him too.

So there must be a hell of a lot of other people having the same issue. I need to hear about your concerns. They said there is a problem with afterflow enabling whatever that is. 4410315 must be the service bulletin. How do you see it. Also they did olh odor correction. The smell is still there when the car goes to auto shutoff, when the car comes back on the chemical smell comes back. What do you think. Thank you.

I purchased a 2019 Equinox LT in October 2018. I had the car a few months and the dashboard started rattling. At first, once in a while, then, all the time. The rattling drives me crazy. The car is loud inside like an old truck. There is hissing coming from the radio and vent area, hissing on the driver's side floor, hissing sound like it is under the console, wind sound as if a window is open, knocking sound on the left side of dashboard, hard dragging when I brake, a motor like running sound in the door across from the steering wheel. The radio blacked out while I was driving and came back on after a while. Mechanic said I need a new gear shift and ordered the part. He said the rattle was coming from under the hood and called himself fixing it.
When I got the car back, it was still rattling. Just recently, the radio started making a loud blaring noise and it continued for almost 4 minutes; I recorded it because I could not stop it. The hood of the car has several lines in the recessed section that won't come off when washed. I got out of the car, left it running, and heard loud hissing noises coming from the back tire area. I am afraid to drive this car any distance because there is always a new problem. Most of the time I leave it in my garage. It only has 3400 miles on it. I would like to enjoy a new car, but not with this Equinox.

I drove my brand new Chevrolet Equinox off the lot 5/30/19. The car is a company vehicle ordered to my specifications. I drove it somewhere between 20-25 miles and while I was at a stop, I went to pull from it and the accelerator wouldn’t work... the street the engine light came on. I floored it and it barely accelerated, and finally got up to speed. This proceeded to happen and I tried to contact the dealer to see what I should do, and he recommended bringing it in for service.
My coworker had a similar incident happen to her vehicle and I called to see what the problem was and what the resolution was. She advised that there was a clip that was popping off and it would cause the vehicle to lose the ability to accelerate. I was able to reconnect it before driving home. I brought the vehicle in to the local dealer the next day and shared what the issue was, and he said that it would be fixed in a couple of hours. I told him the turbo Inlet pipe was off and a clip was missing. Told him my coworker had the same issue and he needed to order a Charge Air Tube Retainer Kit.. and it still hasn’t been resolved. Here we are 6/11/19 and still no car.
Why did the Chevrolet factory even send the vehicle if this is not an isolated complaint. They should recall for repair as I could have been in a very serious accident. It’s dangerous if you pull into traffic thinking you’re going to be able to go with the flow of traffic, and all of a sudden it feels like the engine is shutting down. Unbelievable.

Purchased a Equinox in February 2019. It has 1,144 miles on it. Died in the middle of traffic nearly causing a major accident over Memorial Day Holiday. Engine/Transmission malfunction. Engine Power Low alert/Service engine soon alert. Reeked of gasoline. It was towed to Dan Tobin Chevrolet. The replacement part on back order, indefinitely. Their repair entailed reattaching the broken part. They ordered the replacement part and will notify me once in. The assistance manager, Gregg, refused to provide a loaner and declared the car repaired. This individual verbally assaulted me and physically came at me multiple times because I talk back and refuse to settle for lies and bully behavior.
He attempted to use various methods of intimidation because I pressed the issue that a loaner should ethically be provided, he’s had more than a day to secure a vehicle for me and lemon laws likely apply here. A separate employee made inappropriate sexual gestures toward me then called me a ** when I declined. Called the complaint line, while on the line, the supervisor, Jeff **, approached me and undermined everything that just happened saying it wasn’t important. He laughed and my situation. When I asked why he was laughing, he said “maybe I’m just a happy guy.” The GM complaint rep told me to file a police report and that she had concerns for my safety, which I did.
The car is still not operating properly, has not been repaired properly, does not accelerate, still smells like gasoline, is unsafe, and could pose a threat to my life. GM complaint specialist has been trying to find a dealership that will provide a loaner, do another evaluation on the car or maybe tow it. None in a 100 mile radius will accommodate except for one. But GM is not willing to pay to have the vehicle towed there. I have emailed multiple supervisors and executives. No response. I have missed two days of work with no resolution in sight. I submitted a complaint against BBB. I have IM the manufacturer. I have been black balled by this company. Lemon laws may apply.

I feature was not explained by the salesman nor did the vehicle I test drove shut off during the rural test drive. The Auto Stop feature on my new 2019 Equinox is a poorly thought out way to save a minuscule amount of fuel. Our new Equinox did not come with an override button for this feature therefore there's no way to shut it off. The vehicle shuts down every time the brake is applied and held for a few seconds. This is outrageously annoying at every traffic light. The engine shuts down when the AC is engaged making start ups very hard on the starter not to mention a strain on the electrical system....and the AC is blowing warm air when the compressor stops turning. The manual says it comes with a heavy duty starter to make up for all the extra starts. I find that very hard to believe. GM builds obsolescence into their vehicles or they would go out of business.
It's also a safety hazard in my opinion to be sitting still in stop & go traffic with a car that keeps re-starting every 20 seconds. There is a delay from the time you take your foot off the brake till the engine restarts and begins to move...very infuriating and very dangerous! This is the DUMBEST feature I've ever seen on a car. If I had know this system existed and functioned the way it does, I would have never purchased this vehicle. Shame on Chevrolet for installing this ridiculous feature without a way to disable it. Shame on Chevrolet for not having a fix for this poorly designed system!

While driving at a low speed, my wife heard an abnormal noise coming from the engine. The vehicle quit while in gear and she coasted to a stop. She and I could not get re-started. I had it towed to a mechanic where I live, where it was diagnosed that there was a loss of engine oil and a stretched timing chain with broken guides. There were no warning lights that turned on referencing low oil and the oil level has been good until now with mileage at 70,800. Oil changes were performed at the recommended intervals. Mechanic did a pressure test and found that there was damage to the valves and they needed to be sent out to be repaired. All at a cost of $3100, of which I do not have. I've also had to rent a car for 3 weeks and it will be an additional 10 days before it is completely fixed.
Reading all the issues with the timing chain causing engine or rear seal failures is unbelievably high imop, being a manufacturer myself. What astonishes me is that there is no recall for an apparent design and manufacturing problem. However, since death is not a result of the failure, Chevrolet has yet to announce a recall and make their customers pay for their mistakes to save money. Have driven Chryslers and Toyotas over 250,000 miles and never had an issue like this. My first car was a Chevy Camaro and unfortunately this equinox will be my last ever Chevy purchase.

Overall this has been an enjoyable vehicle. I bought it new, and have had it over six years. But, there have been a pair of engine issues with its 2.4L engine that all considering this car should be aware of. At about 65k the engine was rebuilt from the pistons “up” due to oil consumption, under warranty. This would have been $2500 without the warranty. At 107K the pcr valve “froze” and the build-up of pressure in the engine caused the rear main seal to blow out, causing most of the oil to leak out quickly while driving. It almost stopped dead. So, good car, but be very aware of the history of common problems with the 2.4L engines. I believe in 2018 they stopped using the 2.4L in Equinoxes. $1400 for the rear main at the dealer, and my VIN was included in the “special warranty”. I’m still trying to get some coverage from GM and the dealer.

Seal was broken when I first got the car and that's what was leaking the oil but now it's my fault and I have to change the engine because the powertrain was expired when I bought it. In the extended warranty States they will change the engine only if the engine failed on its own but since the real rear seal popped and shards of metal went inside the engine from it poppin' I have to change the engine because the main rear main seal isn't covered on warranty. This is my first Chevy and after 7 months I know I will never get one again. Ford all the way.

The Equinox would be a decent family vehicle, but it has no vents in the second row which is uncomfortable in the summer heat for backseat passengers, especially children buckled into a molded, covered plastic child seat directly behind the passenger or driver seat, dependent on the direction of air flow from the vents in the dashboard which are the ONLY vents in the car. This is not a sedan; it is a much larger vehicle that takes time for the air to circulate to the back seat, and even then it is not directly toward the back passengers who are seated directly behind the front seats. That said, the Equinox 4-cylinder gives excellent gas mileage and a good linear ride on the highway.

I purchased my Chevrolet Equinox 2012 on 05-29-2015 from Chevrolet of Spartanburg in Spartanburg, South Carolina. I took it back to the dealer the next day during the lemon law period in South Carolina. I expressed a concern that rain was coming in from the outside when it rained. They stated they could not find any issue and I probably left a window or my sunroof open (even though I'm pretty good about closing them). I am living in a different state for the summer and it constantly rains. My floor boards of my driver and passenger side has been flooded. I expressed my concern with a dealership in my current local area and they expressed they do not handle my particular issue and an outside contractor comes in for the work. I called the contractor and he couldn't get me in until the following week.
While waiting for that week to approach I contacted Chevrolet Customer Service Department. There was a case created and when I called back I spoke to an RJ who was very rude and would not allow me to speak with a manager. He stated that one would call me back and I never heard anything back from one. I called once more and the agent stated because it's out of warranty it's not likely I will get a reimbursement. She stated that she escalated the situation, but I do not have faith in this company to do the right thing by its customers. Upon reviewing my car there was a total of $350 in charges for water coming from a missing drain in the sunroof and of course it is now out of warranty. Also while reviewing that issue he uncovered another stating that it looks like an A-Pillar was cut and is an extreme safety hazard and there were also visor retainers missing.
The mechanic expressed to me the only way to miss these details is if the person was not trained and/or did not care about the vehicle. Below is an image I was able to get stating that my vehicle was touched by Chevrolet within warranty and their mechanics supposedly fixed the head trim where the problem occurred. My father is a mechanic and he told me there is no way that a hose would shorten within two years because it should last a lifetime of the vehicle. I no longer feel safe in my vehicle, but this is my only means of transportation.

Chevrolet customer service is deplorable. I had an ignition lock recall on my 2005 Equinox. It was replaced 3 times. Still had issues. On the 4th time at the dealership, I was told it was fine but the key was bent, so they made new key and charged me. The 5th time, the problem was the housing that holds the ignition lock in place. I was now told the recall was not a recall but a special policy. Since the policy does not outline the housing in it, it is not covered.
I checked with an auto parts place and asked if the housing would wear out due to a bad ignition lock and they said that would be the only reason a housing would wear out. I took this information back and said that I felt due to the faulty initial part, that caused the new problem. I again was told that there was nothing they could do. Then, I began a long process of dealing with the Chevrolet customer service. Everyone was very friendly, but they still did nothing. I would never buy a GM product ever again! I am out the money and more than that, I have zero confidence that the problem is solved. My guess is that I will always deal with ignition issues.

A friend of mine told me I should contact ConsumerAffairs about all the issues I've been having with my 2010 CHEV EQUINOX. At this point I don't feel safe driving the vehicle because of the numerous recalls and manifold/motor replacements since I purchased it a few years back. The local GMC dealership in Sydney NS refuses to help me any longer with reoccurring exhaust/manifold issues that has been addressed many times in the past. It now produces a very bad sour smell inside my car especially when warming it up and I'm afraid that even if I replace it at my own cost ($1200 + estimate parts and labor), it will happen again.
I have to drive my wife to work every day. This is winter and I have to open the windows which is not an ideal situation in Feb! A couple of mechanic friends of mine said that GM never really figured out the proper fitting/issue with the manifold. It keeps overheating or something and warps causing it to leak exhaust into the vehicle... Unsafe conditions for me and my family!!
I have called GM Client Care regarding getting it fixed properly recently in Jan 2017 but after speaking with higher-ups, apparently it's like 10K over the emissions warranty. By the way, the service manager at the local GM dealership in Sydney said I was within the emissions warranty that would expire at 190K (right now it's at 140K), and he would try to get the manifold replaced if the catalytic converter, which connects to the manifold, was gone... Apparently the catalytic converter is not gone so the work will not be covered? It's all really confusing at this point. I am stuck with another year and a half of payments at $175 biweekly, very costly to me, and I seem to be driving an unsafe vehicle and no one will help. I mean this vehicle is a 2010 and as it stands, never had a chance right out of the blocks... Too many issues to mention, although I've listed many below.
I'm hoping you can help or point me in the right direction to either getting this manifold and associated parts fixed or get the vehicle recalled altogether and a have them replace it with something of equal value... Or give me the Blue Book value ($11,000 roughly) and I would buy a brand new vehicle from GM, or whoever. Like I said I'm not sure what to do. I just really want it fixed, but I'll take anything that is fair at this point.
My brief maintenance history. 50, 000 kilometers - motor replaced, 75,000 kilometers - manifold and O2 Sensor replaced, 110,000 kilometers - manifold and O2 Sensor replaced again, 140,000 kilometers - manifold and O2 Sensor needs replacing again. Since 2012 I have been sent over a dozen recall notices from exhaust, excessive oil consumption, rough starting, to wiper motor replaces, to rust on the driver doors, etc, etc.

Having a warranty on a Chevy is joke, My engine locked up on my 2013 Chevy Equinox. I had all my service that showed I took car of all my scheduled maintenance. But they would not fix the problem, also they acted like they investigated it but they didn't. They couldn't even tell me when the last time I had an oil change.
