I have been a satisfied BMW owner since 2004. Unfortunately due to unexplainable and unjustifiably horrendous service by BMW of Arlington service I had to change my opinion 100% this year. I am writing this letter hoping that somebody still cares about customers and their opinions at BMW at to give the corporation a chance to correct the wrongs that they have caused to a customer. Let me explain how I have been mistreated by BMW service, customer service in every step in the way.
In February of 2008 the time came that I would order a new lease from BMW. As I was very satisfied with my previous 330i, I went back to Roxanne Roche at BMW of Arlington in Virginia to help me acquire my new lease, a Monaco blue, 335i convertible hardtop fully loaded. While the price on this vehicle was quite a bit higher than my previous BMW, I relied on BMW's reputation, my previous experience, and on the dealer's recommendation for the vehicle.
Before making a purchase and having seen the amazing demonstration of the very intricate convertible hard-top, I asked the dealer whether the convertible hard-top was also covered under the bumper-to-bumper warranty. Realizing that this was new technology I wanted to be assured that if anything goes wrong with the delicate mechanism it would be covered by BMW. Upon receiving assurance that yes it was covered, I signed my lease papers, placed the manual in the covered compartment of the trunk in my dealer's presence, locked down the compartment and drove away as a happy new leasee of a beautiful BMW. Roxanne was always a pleasure to deal with.
The problems with the car started only about a month or two later. First, the trunk mechanism of the car gave me problems in that the trunk would not open through the comfort access mechanism. As if it did not recognize the key I would try to open it and it would not open. Worse though, the hard top mechanism started "sticking". When I would try to fold down the top it would stop 80% of the way and would not close down completely. Then I would have to close the top again and try opening again, and after the second or third attempt it would finally fold down. I have never had anything in the trunk that could have in any way shape or form caused an objection in the mechanism. If I had anything in the trunk it was neatly folded down below the folding cover.
Honestly, I expected more from BMW's workmanship, especially for such an expensive piece of machinery. On one of the attempts as I was closing down the top I heard a scratching sound and when I reopened the top to see what happened: the side panel of the top got scratched in the process of folding down and I heard the cloth tearing on the inside of the vehicle as well. I resolved that I would take the car to the service to get it fixed right away. This is where all the troubles started.
On June 11th, I checked in the car and was hoping to hear back shortly that BMW has commenced fixing the vehicle. The next day I received a call indeed, which only let me know that "this won't be fixed by tomorrow". A week has gone by, and only upon my inquiry as to when I should expect my vehicle I was told that "unfortunately they are not sure" and by the way "the damage cannot be covered under the warranty".
I was outraged so I requested to talk to Bob H., the service manager at BMW of Arlington. He called me back and said that after a week of looking at it they came to the conclusion that the damage to the retractable hard-top was "my fault". I explained to him that it was not, and that I only used the top as it is described in the manual, have never left anything in the way of the mechanism. Furthermore he told me that after 10 days of inspection they figured that it was my "owner's manual" that may have caused the damage, because it was bent in a funny shape. I told him that the manual was locked down under the appropriate compartment in the trunk in my dealer's presence when I got the car. Bob, however, would not relent, he would keep to his, frankly, ridiculous story.
At this point I called my dealer and explained to her that I was completely displeased with the way this is being handled and that I expected BMW to take care of the damage under the warranty (especially because I asked her before I got the car if any damage to the hard top would be covered). She said that she would talk to Bob, who failed to return some of my phone calls. Finally Bob did call me back only to say that the BMW regional specialist would come and investigate the damage on Thursday and we should wait on what he finds. Needless to say, the regional specialist followed Bob's story (he never consulted or asked me even though I offered Bob to be there and talk with him in person when he came to the Arlington location).
The following day (Friday) I called Bob, who told me that (surprise, surprise) the specialist also found that the damage was "due to my actions". And it was probably the owner's manual that caused the damage. I am only the one who finds this ridiculous? Also, Bob told me that the specialist has been doing this for 20 years and he understands BMW better than anybody else. I don't care how long the specialist has been with BMW and how well he knows the car, the retractable roof is a new technology for BMW, one they have not had for a year. So I cannot accept Bob's argument.
That day I called up BMW customer service and told them my story and reassured them that I did not do anything wrong and that the car's top failed due to poor workmanship (who has heard of a 60,000 dollar car breaking because the owner's manual was in the compartment that it was designated to be in?) The customer service rep called Bob and afterwards told me that they will have to take the side of the BMW regional service and local service people and cannot accept my appeal. I called my dealer several times and told her that this was unacceptable. I honestly feel right now as the only just person against a team of BMW representatives who don't care about the truth, and they were all accusing me with something that never happened. They had mine word against theirs, and of course, they chose not to believe me. I felt completely let down by BMW.
Worse, however, is the fact that BMW service has proven to be unreliable and untrustable. Over the last month (where my car is still not returned to me) I have frequently called to service to inquire about the status. When they would not call me back I would call my dealer and ask her to intervene on my behalf. Bob then told her that "he left messages" for me, which, of course was patently untrue. Nobody left messages for me, or even attempted to call. The dishonesty was not on my part but on BMW's. Only when I would call my dealer they would finally respond.
So here we are, close to 40 days after I took my car in and still nothing from the service. I keep paying the high lease monthly payments for a car of appearantly subpar workmanship, and keep having to deal with dishonesty from BMW's service side. And why would this take over 40 days to fix anyhow? This shows tremendous incompetence. After the saga of disappointments and lack of care from BMW I decided that I don't want to drive a BMW anymore. Who would in my place? I feel like customer service does not even care about me or my opinion. I honestly believe that nobody should go through such an ordeal and be mistreated by service and customer service, which I will make sure to be appropriately vocal about. I am prepared to share this unpleasant story with customer groups and the press that care about what it really feels like owning a BMW.
I am looking forward to someone telling me how this issue can be resolved, how I can be reimbursed for the damages, and why I still have to keep paying a monthly lease when I cannot drive my car because it is still in the service. I want to know why I still don't get a call from the service and why BMW would sell a car that is so poorly put together that a manual would cause it to fail. If the owner's manual indeed cannot be stored in the compartment that it is indicated in the trunk I recommend a recall for all convertibles. I did not think the BMW made lemons, but I will have to change my opinion now.
economic damage is the thousands of dollars extra that someone pays for a famous "BMW warranty" that seems to be bogus. THe damage that the car's mechanism caused to the body of the car and BMW refuses to cover under the warranty. The month and a half time out of the car and yet having to make those high lease payments

Our company Triple J Smash Repairs requested a body repair manual, measurements and a statement confirming there are no restrictions against us doing the repair on an M3 Roadster from Andrew T. We needed this information so we could correctly repair the vehicle within BMW guidelines. The initial request was made via phone direct to Andrew T. (Service development manager) to which he refused to co-operate and did not want to take further part in the phone conversation. He advised that all request must be made in writing and provided his direct email address. Immediately I followed his instructions and emailed him what I required on the 06/05/08. Upon receiving no answer my assistant then sent a follow up email on the 25/06/08 to which I still have not received a response.

The problem is in the bearings on the shafts. The bearing shreds then the bits get jammed into the gears which causes them to break apart. BMW knows the problem, knew of it when they put the Midlands boxes in the car but figured they would last past the warranty long enough to sell the cars and it worked. we all got suckered into them.

I paid off my loan on a 2004 BMW (bought new in 05) motorcycle in March 08. They sent me a lien release, but no title. I asked for them to get the title - they screwed up and I dont need to waste my time. A brief summary; There have been claims from them that they did not get it 3 years ago, found it after I asked them to get one (early April), supposedly sent it(I never got it),
In June I complained, they 'applied' for another on 6/6 (Who knows what hapeened to that one?), then another one applied for on 6/20 something, (I checked with TX DOT - it only take 4-5 days - not 4-5 weeks) and they now promise that they can only get it on July 25th from the TX DOT. It is over 16 weeks of waiting!

I bought my 2004 525i Certified Pre Owned BMW in Nov. 2007 with 47,000 miles on it. I ended up spending the extra $1900 for the extended warranty. Thank God I purchased the extended warranty, because the car has been nothing but problems. The day the car was purchased I noticed minor dings and dents. The dealership assured me that the car would look brand new after it went through the body shop. I I went home with the car that same day and returned a week later to drop the car off so they could repair the body and detail the filth on the inside. They gave me a (cheap) enterprise rental car for a week and a half until they finally finished. I excitedly returned to pick up my car after service hours and realized it wasn't detailed and the inside was filthy. I had to return the car a week later because they said they simply forgot. Many of the scuffs and dings were never removed as promised as well as a lingering odor that remains until this day. Since November I have returned it more than 10 times 5 of which were for the new brakes they supposedly put on at the time of purchase. Every time I brought it back for the brakes it was a different story. First it was the new metallic brake pads that BMW now uses, which I can understand. I went home thinking it would go away but after 2 weeks of the squealing getting worse, I took it back. The service adviser Nick was extremely patient and confident that he would fix the problem as well as a new problem with the window motor. I returned the next day in my cheap rental car to find everything fixed and working great. But things couldn't be that easy... I was then told my tires are chopping (giving the car a high pitch hum when driving over 40mph). I needed new tires on this certified pre-owned ultimate driving machine. How can I prove that the tires were like this when I purchased the car. after a month and a half i heard the squealing come back. I scheduled an appointment 2 weeks in advance so I could get a BMW loaner. When I arrived they made me do a test drive with the service tech. He told me it was the new metallic brakes. I told him that the last tech had to shave the sensor down and that fixed the problem. I was ignored. I went home and dealt with the problem for 2 more weeks because I can't keep taking days off from work. I scheduled another appointment this time only a week and a half in advance. This time they said the brakes were so worn down that the brakes were cutting into the rotors so they replaced both. 1 month later I noticed a crack on the passenger side of the windshield about half a centimeter wide where the black rain sensors are. I Called immediately and couldn't get an appointment for 2 weeks. I consulted with an auto glass person the same day. He explained it as being a pressure crack and that I couldn't have caused it. After a week passed the small pressure crack spread across my windshield. I immediately took it to De Simone BMW to see If I could get it approved through my warranty. I was thrown every possible dull excuse from somebody might have punched the windshield to We'll there are minor chips all over your windshield from pebbles. Meanwhile the Service director comes out and runs his pen in the crack and agrees that a pebble couldn't have cause this because the crack is flawless. Then they whipped out the 12 month warranty from 2004, stating that the windshield is only covered during this period of time and BMW probably wouldn't warranty it anyway if it were within' the first year. If this is what BMW classifies a Certified Pre-Owned BMW car then I will never buy another car from them again.

Well, they got me once but they will not get me twice (and yes I am telling everyone). My wife and I have owned three Acuras and loved everyone of them, I would put anyone of these Acuras up against a bmw in cost of ownership and reliabilty (all three of these cars cost me less to own in the time I owned them then the bmw did in less than one month. I will be selling this car as soon as it is fixed even though I will lose money on the deal, I will not pay for another over priced transmission or deal with the grief. BMW did not warn me or any customers that a liquid spill in trunk could cause the car to shut down or burn wires, which I feel could cause a serious accident or death. On 7-5 my vehicle had a low tire warning light go on. My husband checked the tire pressure and it was fine. I called the dealer and they told me to take the car in as it might have a nail in the tire or they might just need to re set something. I took the car in, and they had someone look at it. I was told to bring the car back on Monday as it was not a nail and they could not get the light to go off. On the way home, another light which read Tranmission.... went on.On Monday, July 7th my husband took the car in for servicing. I received a call from Aaron in the service department later that morning. He asked me if I had spilled anything in the trunk. I told him yes I noticed after getting home on Friday (7-4) a water bottle spilled. He informed me at that time that due to the water spillage, the repair would not be covered under warranty. He said they water tested the car to see if the vent flaps were staying open and also tested the back trunk seal, and the trunk was not leaking. He said the ULF (not sure of initials) and RDC wires were burnt 3 to 4?. He said that there is a chance when you put water bottles in your trunk and they are not sealed tightly the heat can cause them to expand, and open up and spill. He said he even warned his wife of this. I responded that no one ever warned me that the wires are down there and not to carry liquid in the trunk. I asked him if I could drive the car and he said no as there is a possibility of the car shutting down. As of now (7-9), my insurance is in the process of handling the situation as I filed a claim in order to get the vehicle repaired. Even so, I do not feel that getting it repaired will solve the problem. I cannot use the trunk for everyday grocery shopping for fear that something will leak? and cause the wires to burn? again, thereby creating the chance of a possible fire hazard. Even if there is not a fire due to the burnt wires, there is the possibility of the car shutting down?, creating an accident which could cause injury to myself or another party. I feel that the general public should be warned (I have notified family and friends) that the BMW trunk cannot handle transporting liquid stored in containers. Every person who owns a BMW more than likely carries water, coolers, milk, juices, etc., in their trunk. I feel that the wires should have been protected from potential water damage due to their location and possible damage by liquid. These wires are somewhere under the spare tire in the trunk area, which is, in my opinion, a flaw in the design. I know of no other person. who has ever had this situation with any liquid spill in a trunk. Nowhere in the trunk or manual does it state not to carry liquid because of a potential shut down or burn to wires. THANKS YOU AND HOPEFULLY SOMEONE CAN HELP ME RESOLVE THIS - I NO LONGER FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR, OR I AM FORCED TO CARRY LIQUID ITEMS INSIDE THE PASSENGER AREA, WHICH LIMITS THE CAPACITY AND REASON FOR HAVING A 52,000 CAR.

I financed a 2002 BMW 330i from Brecht BMW in 2005. Three weeks ago, I started my car (that had only 68k miles on it), and it started smoking from the tailpipe. I took it to the closest dealership(BMW of Encinitas), and without even performing diagnostics on it, I was told I had blown my head gasket and that it was time to get a new car. How can a car, barely 5 years old with under 70k miles, blow a head gasket if it is well maintained? And, I question whether or not I really had a blown head gasket. I called the dealer and asked for a fax of the diagnostic reports, and they said they faxed it twice, yet I never received the report. A BMW mechanic that I have known for years, said that there was no way I blew the head gasket if the car never overheated. It never overheated, I never had smoke coming from the hood, or any temperature lights on. It felt more like a hole in the exhaust or something like that to me. So, after being stranded at the dealership for hours, they convinced me that getting a new car would be the best idea since the repairs would be close to $8000. So, I got another car, and they gave me only 4k for a BMW with less than 70k miles, and about five years old. Isn't there something called goodwill that they should have offered me, knowing that cars just do not crack headgaskets at 68k miles for no reason?!!!!! Yes, I was dumb to get another car from them, but I was caught in a bind and was pressured to make a move since I drive 99% of teh time for my job. And, BMW corporate did nothing for me except have some kid call me to apologize for the situation. I am infuriated!

I write to you concerning a serious warranty issue with my BMW Motorcycle - 2006 K1200LT. I am getting the runaround and basically nowhere from BMW customer service of North America, and with 441 Cycle Shop, Inc. Peters Road, Plantation, Florida 33317, whereby both are pointing the fingers at each other, at the previous owner, and at myself, with regard to my warranty problems. I recently purchased this motorcycle from the original owner. During his ownership he had the right mirror housing replaced and the radio partition flap replaced by 441 Cycle Shop. Both parts still do not fit properly (verified by two local dealers, Browns BMW in Pomona and Malcolm Smith BMW of Riverside) and also have been replaced by parts of the wrong paint color.
Apparently 441 failed to correctly match the color code of this bike when ordering these parts by failing to simply check under the seat for the proper codes. BMW, in turn, does not have a color code listed in their computer for this specific motorcycle. This was verified by Browns BMW. The color ordered by 441 was Dark Metallic Graphite, while Browns verified that the correct color should have been Magnesium Schwartz. At one point 441 agreed to replace the parts if I would bring the bike to their shop, they knowing full well that I am in California and they are in Florida. They later agreed to replace the parts if I would mail it to them, but they later reneged on this promise. This is documented by BMW customer service.
The dealer, 441, admits to ordering the wrong part number from BMW. BMW claims that the error is by 441 yet BMW refuses to insist that they correct their incompetent errors. Both BMW and 441 are claiming that the original owner accepted the parts and thus both are absolving themselves of responsibility. This is Unacceptable. It wasn't until I was checking that the parts did not fit properly, that I noticed the color did not match the rest of the bike.
I am appalled by the fact that I am now expected to pay to replace these parts, which were once already paid for, but were never done correctly in the first place. Thus, I have a mismatched bike, which no one wants to accept responsibility for. This is just not the right way to treat customers. parts are not fitting right=visual blemish eyesore. cost to replace=approx $300.
My point is this. I purchased the bike in good faith with the full warranty still in effect. I have owned several BMW motorcycles for over 20 years. Now I find that when push comes to shove, no one stands behind their work, their word, or their product. So it appears I am now the owner of a very expensive BMW motorcycle with a seemingly worthless warranty which remains an illusion, to be pursued yet never attained. I really DO expect someone to take responsibility for these uncalled for mistakes. WRONG IS WRONG AND TRUTH IS TRUTH, there is no other way to look at it. Therefore, I am willing to pursue every legal avenue to resolve this matter.

BMW Owner's BEWARE! I drive a 2004 BMW 330CIcM and LOVE my car.... until this past Monday night. I was leaving work at 3:30 (on a hot afternoon)... unlocked my trunk and put in my laptop... unlocked the driver's door... got in... closed the door... put my key in the ignition turned the key to start my car the doors locked. NOTHING HAPPENED! I pushed the clutch all the way to the floor (althoughcome on!!! - I know how to start my car!) tried in neutral tried in 1st gear STILL NOTHING. So now I'm getting really hot so I go to open my door so I can get out. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! My key-fob won't unlock my doors my unlock button won't unlock my doors! I can't roll down my windows - now I'm really HOT and starting to panic. I crawled to the back seat thinking I can pull down the back seats and use the emergency release in my trunk to get out! That wasn't happening either! I called my BMW dealer thinking, certainly there's an over-ride on the locks that they know about. I spoke to someone in service who stepped me thru everything I had already done. He told me he had no clue and instructed me to call Roadside Assistance. They told me to call 911!!! I immediately called my husband (who is 28 miles away!) and told him I was in trouble asking him to hurry up and get to me with his key to my car (I'm thinking my key-fob went dead). I then called 911. As I was explaining to the man on the other end of the phone my situation and where I was my phone went dead!!!!! Okay I'm still trying to remain calm and in control. I calmly got my charger out of the glove box and plugged it in! NOTHING! Now I'm starting to panic. The police arrived in about 5 minutes (by now I'm in the car at least 20 minutes). He tried to use the jimmy to unlock my car. Each time he'd get the lock up the car would automatically lock itself again (sound like a Stephen King film!!!?). Now he's on the phone calling the fire department. Using a crowbar they had me pass them my valet key thinking they could unlock the door from the outside - WRONG! The fire department gets the lock up far enough so I can possibly try to pull it up. First off, at this point I am so hot and sweaty I can't grab anything! Using a napkin I grab a hold of the lock and pull with all my might - WOULD NOT BUDGE! Now the police and firemen are on the cell phone calling my husband to see how close he is - - of course it's now close to 4:15 and he's stuck in traffic! At this point I am beyond hot and starting to have trouble breathing! They called my husband again to let him know I'm getting distressed (that's putting it mildly!) and they might have to break a window while they continue to look through books they have trying to figure out how to get me out. My husband tells them to do whatever is necessary - just get me out. Before breaking the window they had me pop the hood. One of the guys pulled a cable from the positive side of my battery which did a quick reset and immediately one of the policemen yanked open my door right before it relocked itself! Once my husband got to me we found out that not even his key worked!!! My husband and I had the car towed in the next day to the dealer only to find out that my battery failed which put my car into some sort of valet mode - thinking someone was trying to steal it so there was no access to the car whatsoever. I asked the dealer shouldn't I get a warning indication that my battery is low - they're response was not necessarily - especially if a cell goes bad!!! I have done some research on the web and found others have experienced the same problem. This feature of BMW's is not even close to a safety feature! God forbid my car was on fire or I was sinking in water! I've watched all the What To Do In The Case Of shows and thought I knew how to get out of my car only to find I can't! BMW needs to own up to this problem and FIX IT before it causes someone's death unnecessarily! In the meantime I am going to order a Life Hammer so it's in my car. You can find them on-line.

When we purchased our preowned 2004 325i,it was still under the original factory warranty, and, were told that the previous owner had also put an extended warranty on the car that would cover everything except tires. When our car needed brake pads, we made an appointment to have them installed. When we went to pick up the car, we were shocked to recieve a bill. Because we were both told at the time we purchased the BMW that the extended warranty would cover all except tires. Had we known at the time we purchased the car that we did not have warranty plan that would cover repairs, we would have gladly purchased the correct one ourselves. We tried to talk with both the salesman and the service manager, Dewayne, but got nowhere. During a one year period, our family purchased 3 vehicles from Hixon's. Another BMW 325i and a Ford F150. Today, my mother took her BMW into have the oil changed. At the time she purchased her BMW, we were also told she had the warrany that would cover repairs. Today, she took her BMW into Hixson's for an oil change and was told she needed to buy the warranty that would cover repairs, because she would need brake pads soon and that without the extended warrantly, it would cost her $900,.00. She called us and said, the same thing has happened to me. What should I do? I'm sure that this will also probably get us no where but I can assure you that we had owned Mercedes,Cadillacs, and Toyotas in the past and we have NEVER been missinformed about warranties. Obviously those companies want return customers. We have sent many customers to Hixson's but if this is the way they do business and represent BMW, we will never do business there again, nor send other friends and family to them.

I purchased a BMW in the certified used BMW dept. I had multiple problems with this vehicle. The vehicle broke down a total of 13 times in one year and had to be towed. Five of those 13 times if was due to the same gas problem. For some reason the vehicle would register it had a half a tank but would suddenly run out of gas. This would leave me stranded in dangerous situations. Finally, one of their mechanics admitted he had broken the fuel pump and sent all the pieces up into my fuel line thus clogging the system. I found this out after Mortiz and BMW of North Texas both assured me they had already checked the fuel lines. The last time the vehicle broke down I was almost hit by a semi. The vehicle also had a fault battery, brak issues, smoking cigarette lighter, etc etc. I was so disgusted and felt so bad selling this rotten vehicle to someone else I ruined my credit and allowed it to go back. I have had an attorney talking to Mortiz/BMW but we have not filed suit yet. I do plan on contacting another attorney to actually file a suit. This is wrong and BMW should not promote these vehicles!!

I purchased a 2000 323i in the fall of 2000. At 25,000 miles, and just over 5 years, I had to have the brakes repaired. Warranty had just expired. In January,2007, I had to have the window regulator replaced. I just read that this is also a recurring problem on this model. And, here's the BIG problem. My car now has 33,350 miles and suddenly the transmission blew the reverse gear. Like so many other people are claiming. The BMW dealer denies there is a problem with this model, even though there are many consumer complaints to the contrary. Neither the dealership in Seattle or North American office has been of any help. Essentially, because the warranty has expired, it is just too bad. So what is one to do, put in another transmission that is likely to do the same thing? 33,350 miles on a luxury car and no support from BMW.

I payed over $200 for the new battery, eight (8) months later the battery is dead, so I get it jumped, take it to Roseville BMW and they charge it up. I bring it home after spending over $2000 for the 100,000 mile maintenance. The battery went dead again, I called BMW Roseville and was told the reason it went dead was because I didn't drive the car enough and that I would need to put it on a trickle charger at night to keep it powered up, I thought that was a load of hogwash so I called BMW North America and the cheerful young man on the other end told me yes they were right I didn't drive it enough and would need a trickle charger, this made me laugh, I was not just born yesterday, so I took the battery down to my local Firestone dealer to have it charged,( the battery didn't have to be charged by BMW only), they put it on their charger for 18 hours and it still registered dead, they say it is a bad battery and won't hold a charge.I am trying to get BMW to cover their faulty battery and replace it but so far no luck. This gorgeous driving machine has been to the dealer at least 6-7 times to remedy the problem, and it seems like they have fixed it, the next day, light's back on. PLUS, the best part: in 2004, I was driving the car on a warm sunny day, went over a pothole (oops) and the ENTIRE side impact airbag system on the passenger side deployed, smoke, debris flying n' all! Lucky me. Then of course, the car wouldn't accelerate, so I had to slow down and pull over. I called the dealer, (you're gonna love this:) who had just the Friday prior serviced the car for a 'voluntary airbag blah blah blah recall'... Needless to say, with some strong words I had the car towed to them, got a BMW loaner (the ONLY loaner ever given to me by BMW for having my car serviced by them) and my 323 was out of service for an ENTIRE WEEK! woo hoo! Let's NOT even get into the 1.5 inch thick binder full of service documents for other faulty problems.... I called BMW of North America the following day and they were the most apathetic bunch of a-holes I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. For financial reasons I still own the car and am anticipating the next disaster... to whom it may concern, if you are considering a luxury brand, PLEASE consider a Japanese bran.. the one with the L in the oval; you won't be disappointed! trust me!

I also explained to them that they already agreed to a pay-off amount to my car and did not understand how they could ask me for an additional lease payment after they agreed to a pay off amount, the answer I received was Because we can. What they explained to me was that they received the payoff check on the 21st from my insurance but needed to receive it by the 20th in order for me to not have to make that months lease payment. ONE DAY!!! I will NEVER purchase/Lease another BMW again. The customer service was beyond horrible. The amplifier broke and needed to be replaced. Various transmission components failed, requiring a $2000+ repair each time. I have been stranded in places like Newark Airport's terminal highways, the George Washington Bridge, the side of I-80. The radio no longer works. Now a gear positioning sensor is needed. This sensor cannot be replaced without removing the entire transmission. Since reaching 50,000 miles, I have been afraid to drive this car more than 50 miles away from home. What an expensive, overrated piece of junk this car is. I gave up on repairs and leased a Pontiac G6 to last me until I'm done paying for the BMW. Tires were junk. They needed to be replaced every 15,000 miles. I do not recommend this car to anybody. The descriptions of the problems others have had with their BMW 3-Series sound all too familiar. My car was not 'certified' when purchased, but I have had more problems with my 2000 323i than with my 11 year old Nissan. It's extremely frustrating, because it's almost as if certain things in the 3 series are so poorly designed that they break unusually quickly.
I just finished spending over $1500.00 having my vehicle repaired at the local dealer, which is over 30 miles away. I have replaced almost every bulb on the car, my driver's side window regulator--which was over $350.00--front and rear brakes, belts, and replaced a temperature sensor on the outside of the car that had supposedly been damaged, causing the air conditioning/heating to malfunction.
On the way back from the dealership today I discovered that another window regulator has gone out, but I do not have the $400 it will cost to repair. Honestly, this car has been a nightmare, and I cannot wait to buy a more reliable vehicle that is actually under warranty.

Imagin BMW touting there big warranty and server plans. Well for those of you who dive less then 15000 miles a year for get it. It's not a four year warranty on service. They won't work on your car until after 365 days. 364 is to soon. Meaning you get three oil changes on your plan. Now for me the dealship had no problem charging me 1100.00 for a 6/100,000 warranty. But did not mention I would only get one oil change because you can only schedul your service after each year.
By the time you get your care into a busy dealship your annual service like mine after 4 years is two months after when I purchased. So there are two problems here first the warrenty implies 1 year not more then one year as it really is and it make for a very expensive oil chage. I suffered a missed service even though I had it into the dealship so I only had three services in four years. Then I had is in right before the end of the 4 year warranty period expired for a level 2 checkup.
Well my battried died hard less then 4 weeks after and I had to shell out a couple of hundred bucks at the dealship as they would not cover it saying they could not know when they tested the battrie that it was getting low and going out. Then I scheduled a year service again about 4 weeks prior to the end of the year (ok not one year and four weeks can be considered a little bit out) They should have told me when I made the appoitment not when I brought it in.
Then they rescheduled for me 8 days before one year again way too early to be covered... 8 days is way more then resonable considering they missed server refused service and now smiling knew they were charing me 1100.00 for one oil change. Telling me all along 2 years or 100,000 miles. 8 days is more then resonable it says one year not exactly 365+ if that was the case the every year they should have it in on the day they sold it to me if I go by the same rules they are using. Corporate was not intresed in it nor was the dealship. The extension are not clear and if you don't drive heavy no matter what they tell you don't buy it your just getting screwed over and they are laughing all the way to the bank.

The tire dealer told me the car was out of alignment even though the dealer had assured me it had been totally gone over and everything repaired before I bought it.
On April 15, 2008 I had the 3 month old snow tires removed and the street tires put back on. The garage that did the tire change showed me the abnormal wear on the two rear tires. The front two are in pristine condition.

My daughter bought a 2000 323i BMW. The dealer she bought it from repaired the transsmission, because reverse went out of it. When we bought the car, the motor must have gotten hot about 5,000 miles later. Apparently there was a bulliten that went out in 2006, stating that BMW cars that overheat, head bolt threads come out of the block and a new motor is necessary.
BMW is aware of these problems and will not stand behind their cars. This has been very expensive for us and between the transmission and motor we have been frustrated with BMW.
Our daughter spent over $1,000 on towing charges and trying to figure out what was wrong with her car. She missed work approximately 3 times due to the car troubles. She had to ride the bus and/or find rides for about three months while the car went from mechanic to mechanic to diagnose the problem. The estimate for a new motor is $5,000. She still owes approximately $9,000 on the car, and is now driving something else.

My 2002 5 series BMW heated front drivers seat appears to have shorted and burned through the leatherette, my wool coat and a blazer that I was wearing at the time. I contacted BMW Canada with the information. They took the mileage reading (approx 104000kms)and then suggested that I take the car to a BMW dealer for inspection. The dealer told me that heated car seats often burn through and gave me a quote for a new seat pad. He would not make a report of the damage unless I booked the car in for an inspection and paid for the inspection. I then wrote to BMW Canada detailing my concern. About a month later I emailed BMW Germany and they asked for a copy of the letter. A few weeks later I got a call from the BMW dealer where I had taken the car. I am not a customer of theirs as I use an independent to service the car. They basically indicated that they were not interested. (This is reasonable as the issue is with BMW Canada) Another week or so passed and BMW Canada got back to me to ask again about mileage. I provided this to them and then thy told me that the car is out of warranty and that the burnt seat is my problem. I have asked them to put this in writing. Subsequent to the burn appearing in the seat I have asked a number of car dealers if they have ever experienced this. Not one (apart from the BMW service person) have ever heard of it happening. My concern is the neglect by BMW of what I do not think is an expected fault in the heated seat. I would have thought that they would want to investigate the cause to rectify any underlying fault in design to prevent this happening again. The lack of concern from BMW and the lack of interest in investigating a potentially dangerous fault is staggering.

Since my purchase of the car it's been in the shop for Keys not working, A/C spitting water out when running, alarm activating unexpectidly, tire sensor activating since date of purchase even with new tires, side rocker pannels falling off, sunroof rattle, SRS restraint system malfunction, blue tooth not operating, oil warning sensor going off. and these are just the begining of my probelms. I first had the vehicle serviced at BMW in Bakersfield, of course the service department was unable to duplicate any problems with the vehicle and returned it to me promptly and said bring it back when it's having a problem, which turned out to be the following day. Only to find out I would be without a vehicle for 3 days and NO LOANER because I had to make a reservation 3 weeks in advance for a loaner vehicle. Then I took the vehicle to Savage BMW in Ontario expecting better service. on the first visit I waited 3 after my scheduled appointment time to get my car in for service and when they were taking it in I was told they would not get to the car that day and I would be without a vehicle for 3-4 days. It was not until I started getting upset on the sales room floor that the found a loaner car for me to take while they worked on my car. 3 days later they called and my car was finally being looked at. Upon receiving my car back they damaged the side plastic pannels around the window which took 3 weeks for them to get replaced. now that my vehicle finally went over the original 50,000 miles my extended warranty is supposed to kick in only to find out no one told me the extended warranty does not cover the vehicle like promised and I have to pay $50 deductible per item I'm having a problem with. Now all the items I am having problems with have still not been resolved. I called the dealership where I purchased the car and their exact words what do you want me to do? is all they say. I am a US diplomat assigned to Spain. In 2005 I purchased a 2006 BMW 325i by ordering directly through BMW headquarters' Diplomatic Sales Division. The car was delivered from Bavaria to the local BMW dealership in Madrid, BMW Herranz. I took ownership in October 2005. In February 2008 I began to get a sensor light on the dashboard that indicated a problem with the steering wheel. Meanwhile, the car wouldn't start. I had to remove the fob, wait, and start again. I often repeated this procedure numerous times before the car would start. I took it into the Herranz dealership and had them look at it. Since it was time for a general tune up and oil change, I told them to do that too. I expected the steering column error to be fixed gratis. Boy was I in for a surprise. I was told the problem was a sensor that needed to be replaced and the software needed a reset. The total cost to me was about 850 euros or almost $1500. I argued that I bought the car through Diplomatic Sales with US specifications and that the US has a four-year warranty. But I was told rudely that in Spain the warranty expires in two years. In fact, that holds true throught the EU.
I am perplexed. I bought BMW only after a lot of research. I chose it in part because of its reputation. In fact, I shied away from Mercedes precisely because of similar problems that had been reported of late by Mercedes owners and the cavalier treatment that they had received from the company in reply. I note from some online research that this problem with the steering column sensor is not that rare, and I still believe that BMW should cover my costs. But I have been treated with what feels like contempt. I promise I will NEVER EVER buy another BMW, and I will make sure I get the word out to all my friends, family and acquaintances.

Within 11,000 miles (and less than 1 year)of use, they now tell me the rear brakes are shot....$600.....the front suspension bushings need to be replaced......$500......they don't know why the service ngine soon light came on and we lost a cylinder firing for a while. Oh, but I am about due for a standard service.....an additional $1200.00!!!! None of these defects are covered under the certified warranty....in fact it doesn't appear to cover anything. BMW says that the car was certified ...not by my dealer....but by a Florida dealer over 14 months prior to our purchase. Of course no one can tell me what happened in that period. The certified program is nothing more than a markeeting gimmick to increase the price suckers like me are willing to pay for peace of mind.

He wasn't able to do anything about the headlights and the window trimming, Of course no other suggestions were offered. My husband called Thursday and Friday of that week to speak to Management to explain the problem we were having, and stated how someone could have at least gave us a referral to have these items repaired, since the Service Department was unable to do anything for us. No one as of yet has been able to give a referral or assist with getting these items replaced/repaired. I have been to 4 different detail/body shops in Fay. NC and no one is able to repair these items, They suggest I take the car back to Valley BMW and ask why would these items NOT be covered under warranty when the car isn't old enough to have these problems with these parts. They stated how they have had vehicle as old as 2000 and they don't have this problem. They told me this should not be happening to a car so soon. I understand when you purchase a used vehicle there will be some wear and tear, but this is ridiculous, I can't find anyone to repair these items, It is not fair to me as a customer who has purchased a vehicle that is new to me. I have a 2007 BMW K1200GT motorcycle. Previous to that I had a 2006 BMW K1200GT. The 2006 model developed problems almost immediately after I purchased it new. There was a loss of power, hesitation, and loss of fuel economy. I complained to several of the local dealers about it and had a BMW dealership in Tucson AZ look at it. They recommended I update the on-board computer with the latest software. I assumed these people were the experts and agreed to let them do the update. The technician made a mistake when he loaded the software and my bike had a negative reaction to it. It changed to a totally different bike and was 10 times worse. I complained immediately and they told me to ride it for the weekend and see if it got better. Come to find out this is a common phrase the dealers use because they don't want to deal with you if you have problems. Of course it didn't get better, it got worse, much worse. After 6 months of arguing with BMW dealers and BMW of North America they finally agreed to get me a new bike because I threatened to go to the biggest BMW auto dealer in AZ and tell all their prospective customers how they treat people that already have their product. I was called the next day and offered a settlement on a new bike. BMW absolutely hates for anyone to say anything negative about their product. After I received my new GT the worst possible thing happened. I had an accident with it and hit a curb and laid it down. I was right back in to the hell hole of dealing with BMW, but this time it was 10 times worse. I took the bike to Victory BMW in Chandler,AZ. They first repaired the bike cosmetically and called me and said it was fixed. I took it for a test ride and the bike swayed left to right on the freeway and buckled in high speed corners. I immediately returned the bike and complained of the problem. The shop re-looked at my claim and decided to put a whole new front end on my bike and had not diagnosed the problem for certain or correctly, according to the claims adjuster with Progressive. After my bike spent another approximately 10 weeks in the shop I received a call again to pick up the bike. The dealership made sure that I signed the insurance check so they would get paid and then left me test ride the bike on the freeway. I took the bike out and to my horror it did the same exact thing that it had before they replaced the front end. I was so angry I went back immediately and complained that the bike was not repaired correctly and I wanted it repaired. Their reply was that as far as they were concerned it was fixed and they told me I was not welcome there any more and they did not want my business. I was in awe, and couldn't believe it. To make matters worse they had complained that the insurance company had shorted them and they didn't make any money on the repair which is bs and the insurance company knows better as well. Next I complained to BMW of North America about it and it is like talking to the wall. These people could care less and refuse to work with you. They had a representative come out and ride my bike and of course he said he noticed nothing. He and all the dealers told me that all the roads tilt to the left, can you believe that bs. I certainly don't. When I asked him how many times and how many miles he has spent on a GT he said twice and about 100 miles. I have had 2 GT's, have been riding one for about 2 yrs and have over 30,000 miles on them. Who is the expert me, or him? I had taken the bike to the Scottsdale dealership and they refused to work on it. I had also had it to Tucson for the BMW rep to ride it. Next I had another accident on it and I am convinced that part of the reason is because the bike is so unstable from the first accident and was not repaired correctly. When I turned in the 2nd claim to Progressive they called the dealership in Tucson and they refused the work. This left me with no place to take the bike in AZ. I again called BMW of North America and again they didn't want to help me. It took them nearly 2 weeks to call me back and they gave me the website of an independent shop. They didn't give me a location in Phoenix, a contact name or number. Little did they know that I have met the gentleman that runs the shop and he had already looked at my bike. I made a call to him and asked him if he would be willing to repair the collision damage on the bike and also repair the bike correctly from the first accident. I also asked him about BMW of NA and he told me they had called him the week before and asked him if he would be willing to work on a GT. They didn't tell him it was mine. In fact when he called them back after he talked with me they lied and told him that I didn't want the dealers in AZ to fix it, that I wanted an Independent shop to work on it, which is the exact opposite of the truth. I have had no help from anyone at BMW unless I press them extensively. In fact they have argued with me about everything. The dealer in Chandler damaged one of my saddlebags and didn't repair the other correctly. When I complained they told me to pound sand and after extensive complaining and letters to the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General they called me and told me Mr. Franz we are getting you 2 new bags. I told them it was about time. As far as my GT right now it is at a different Independent shop that an attorney's firm recommended. They are in the process of repairing the bike. I just am at a loss with BMW. They pick and choose who they want as customers and I just find that difficult to believe. As far as the Insurance company, they have sent me a check and I guess I am on my own to get it repaired. The paralegal that recommended the shop told me that an attorney wouldn't want the case because I wasn't hurt in the second accident and just had some road rash from the first. I am not sure how to take this. What ever happened to helping the customer. It is all about money and profit. It is not about making sure the customer is satisfied. My answer to this is sooner or later the word will get out about what has happened to me and consumers won't put up with it, I know I won't and I plan to tell as many people as I have to, to get something done. I won't stop until my bike is repaired and repaired correctly. I have to admit it would be nice if I received some assistance because I sure would appreciate it after all of the complete hell BMW has put me through.

Since the service warranty that i have will not cover the alternator, BMW service warranty wil have to pay for the replacement, because it has a warranty up to 2 years. Bmw Fields say that they will not cover the warranty because the part got damage by and oil leak which if you look at the engine it is clean, you do not see any oil. I have not washed the engine compartment in 3 years and it never showed any kind of extreme oil leak like they said it has. Before i left the car there i inspected the car, touched the alternator and belt and they were not dirty/oily. Since it is their responsability to pay for the alternator and labor they are giving all kind of excuses not to pay for it. Minutes before this happened, the car was perfectly normal as it was being slowed down by my husband, the driver, to drive onto our driveway. It took a few seconds for the crash to occur from start to finish but its impact was great. Soon after the garage lifted, everything went wrong. The car accelerated on its own, even though the driver's foot was on the brakes and crashed into the garage, breaking off a structural column of the house from its base. The car only stopped because it hit a 6'tall pile of sheetrock, which was delivered by our Contractor the day before. Our two young kids, who were asleep, woke up screaming at that point and we all were in shock. Neither my husband nor I have been in any accident that was caused by us. (In fact, it was the first car accident that I have ever been in in my entire life. I am 40 and my husband is 41.) We are convinced that human error was not involved. BMW, like any other vehicle is still Just A Car, nothing more nothing less These were the words of the Manufacturers Rep w/whom I spoke about my vehicle. On 11/30/2007, I had my 2001 330CI in the shop for some maintainence. I was advised that the vehicle needed a new thermostat for which I paid. My total repair bill was approximately $800. Ok, no biggie (so I thought). Exactly one week later the car is toast. On 12/7/07, the car started blowing cold air from the vents. As I investigated this anomally, I looked and discovered that the temperature gauge was in the red. I got out of the car to see if I could smell anything sort of burning. I found nothing. I got back in the vehicle and it ran fine, but the gauge was no longer lit. My first thought was maybe they sold me a faulty thremostat. However, as I headed home, car begin to drive funny. After about 10 minutes, I pull off the road, and the car went dead. That evening, I had the car towed to the dealership. On 12/8/07, I spoke w/the dealer. They advised that the cooling system had failed, $2800. However, I would soon learn the meaning of BMW. On 12/10/2007, I got a second call from the guy in the service department who begin by interviewing me. He asked several questions which I had previously discussed w/the Technician on 12/8/07. After a few moments, I asked whether there was any additional problems w/my vehicle. He replied that the car now needed a new engine. BMW of Westmont advised me that there must have been a crack in the cooling reservoir which exploded causing the car to cooling system to melt. As a result, this affected numerous parts in the engine; therefore, I would need to purchase an engine ($10-12K) installed. To date, I continue to wonder whether this was an issue which could have been averted. I paid thousands of dollars over several years to maintain the vehicle at BMW of Westmont, only to have a maintainence/service related issues virtually total the car. These vehicles offer very little in terms of overall value to the consumer. I would suggest using caution, or selling as soon as the warranty expires. My advice would be to hed the words of the manufacturer Rep noted above....BMW, it's still Just A Car, nothing more, nothing less!

I have owned a 2000 BMW 323i since it was new. I have experienced the typical window regulator issues (all of them broke -two under warranty), camshaft sensor failures and even the failed lower control arm bushings that requires the replacement of the entire lower control arm and associated ball joints to be replaced. While all of this was a sign of poor design, I have put up with it due to the love of the ride. The fact that I am capable of doing all my diagnostics and replacing these components myself, has also helped keep the costs down so that I can afford it. However, now I have experienced the infamous car will not go into reverse syndrome (automatic ZF tranny with lifetime fluid). I have a lot of miles on this vehicle - 140K- but I have 200K on my 91 Chevy Pickup and put over 200K on a Datzun 240Z and never had a transmission problem with them or any other vehicle I have ever owned (except my BMW 330CI). I also own a 2001 BMW 330CI with a 5 speed manual transmission and it has an issue whereas the stick shift attemts to force you into 5th gear - from second- whenever the transmission is cold. I have read about this issue on the internet too. The stick shift rests under 5th gear, when it is cold and in neutral, and under 3rd gear after it is warmed up for 5 or miles of driving...this is Florida so cold means 60 or less. This makes it difficult to find 3rd gear during this cold running stage. It is apparent that while BMW makes a fine riding car, they have numerous issues with major component breakdown, making owning these cars very expensive. They had me hooked ( I also own a BMW R1200C cruiser motorcycle) but now I am seeing the true cost of the ride and starting to question whether or not I will ever purchase another BMW again.

I have spent more time, energy, and out of my pocket expenses getting my brand new Mini fixed than that of my old trusty, 1997 Chrysler Intrepid which, incidentally, has over 300 kms on it and only cost me $200 in a one time tune-up in addition to regular maintenance (ie, changing oil regularly, getting new tires and replacing a cracked windshield). Here's what happening with my Mini. In July 2007, I was travelling to Vancouver, BC for business. In the middle of the Rocky Mountains my check engine light started flashing.
I was nervous - a woman travelling alone in the middle of no where. So, I called BMW's 1-800 at the next gas station where I encountered a voice mail system. So, I left a message asking BMW to call me at my Vancouver number. I never did receive a return phone call from BMW (not a good sign)... but the Mini did seem to be running OK, so I continued on to Vancouver. While in Vancouver, I called that city's local dealership, and they advised that it was likely nothing serious if the car seemed OK (which it did). But since then, have spent over 20 plus hours trying to get this check engine sensor fixed on four different occasions. And as of December 4, 2007 - four months into this saga of personal stress and expense and dawning disillusionment with BMW's so called great customer service -- the check engine sensor remains unfixed.
Here's what happened. Since the check engine sensor was fixed (ha!), my Mini is noticeably worse off than before: the air conditioning is now stuck and my fuel economy has taken a nose-dive (costly), and now my driver's seat has a new greasy dirt stain on it that wasn't there on December 4, 2007 at 8:30 when I dropped the car off for servicing. In so far a the more important issue -- my passenger airbag -- well that sensor still blinks indicating that it is not deployed (discomforting optics for any potential passengers).
This means I must take my Mini in a second time to get its airbag fixed - a basic safety feature that hopefully will work if, God forbid, I get in an accident. This is in addition to my repeated and wholly unsuccessful attempts to get the check engine light fixed on many prior occasions over a five month period. In terms of pre-sales care, the salesman assured me that the model I was purchasing came with a block heater (not the case) - either he was lying or lacked the basic product knowledge expected of sales staff selling higher-end vehicles.
Block heaters are a necessity for many here in Edmonton, and I never would have purchased the vehicle had I known this about the car. I had purchased a used car once before that didn't have a block heater (it left me stranded), so I pointedly asked this question as it is very important to me. Oh yeah! I ordered winter tires and rims two months in advance in August, only to arrive on time for my October 28,2007 appointment to discover the tires and rims were never ordered. To give the dealership credit, particularly faced with my much red-faced ranting on my part to get my way, they did manage to squeeze me in on my time during my busy workday (i.e., I had to take time off work to do this task during a period of high stress and tight deadlines) to get my winter tires on before the snow started to fall.
The last time the defective sensor was scheduled to be fixed on December 4, 200. But this defective sensor was merely reprogrammed (again). As a result, my air-conditioning is now stuck (not nice in winter) and my fuel economy has dropped from 6.0L/100km to 6.9L/100km in an average of -20 below C weather (my car had good mileage before when the weather turned cold, but now its acting like most cars act when the air conditioning is on in that fuel economy dips).
My colleagues ecologically sensitive PhDs and graduate students from across Canada are horrified (future SmartCar and Mercedes buyers!). My story is now online for the world to see.
I just would like my new car fixed. And although I have no problem with my Mini other than my cars check engine sensor is stuck, lingering uncertainty that the airbags will deploy if needed, and air-conditioning stuck on full blast at 20 below zero (which has resulted in unacceptable fuel economy) - I would like to get these problems fixed with no headaches.
I am not asking for the world. Im simply asking competent customer after-sales care.

The best one is the fact that the car was delivered with the 3 of the 325 emblem on the back cocked to a 45 degree angle. I took it to the dealer and they reprogrammed it. Two days later the same exact problem. This time I had them tow it because I refused to drive such a dangerous vehicle. When I got it back, it started but clouds of blue black smoke poured out of the muffler while the car shuttered to life just barely making it. Towed again, I refused to drive it. Got it back the next day. Was fine for about a month. All this time the sunroof didn't open but being that I don't use it much and didn't have the time to deal with it just ignored it. The Nav system one day just refused to turn on. Had it towed. Back 2 days later- system replaced. A few days later, the car refused to turn easy- was very difficult and made a loud squeeling noise. I reported a consumer safety and FIRE hazard in which BMW has known for sometime, according to one of their employees. The original safety hazard involved a 3Rd break light which burned its way of its housing into the trunk of my car, resting on flammable material and next to my gas can, posing a serious fire and or a very potential explosion condition.
The second safety complaint involves the easily breakage of both, driver and passenger door handles. The main safety concern involving the door handles is the high possibility of occupant (s) being trapped inside the vehicle during an event which may cause a person to react and quickly exit the vehicle for safety after grabbing and breaking the handles.
BMW and I have transmitted several emails back and forth in lieu of correcting and addressing my complaints. However, the end result was that they paid for a rental for a week for me; refused to give me a copy of the electrical engineer report, whereas the engineer himself admitted not being registered in California; denied my request of credentials and his citizenship; and the return of my vehicle without repairs because I refused to sign their General Release? form.
This form involved me not being able to sue, alert the media, send emails to the consumer, etc. I could not sign their general release not just because of my Airplane Technicians oath to up hold safety for airplanes and or mechanical devices, but it was also unfair, and or racially motivated also. Tension started to grow between us after I accidentally drove away in one of their rental cars forgetting to leave the light bulb.
However, I could not understand why they could not inspect the vehicle and work up to that point anyway; they never intended to. I finally brought the light bulb in, in which they held in their possession for at least a week, and still failed to complete any inspection. I believe they were only trying to see if I and or someone else placed the wrong bulb inside the plug and ultimately the housing wrongly.
It wasn't, though. In fact, their very own repair manual calls out a 12 Volt, 21 Watt bulb (technically to much current 1.75 Amps), or the exact same one which caused the damage and the potential FIRE hazard, inside the plug or the original part. Ive also contacted the DOT who has FWD my complaint to the applicable department. Fires are serious dangers to consider and I though that BMW would realize this. I also believe they have somehow shut down the medias emails in which they gave me as they are now not responding.

They are $500 each to replace. The car is just one year old and I have already had to replace 3 of the tires one of them twice. These car models were designed without room for a spare or a jack so as an owner your only option is to continue to replace the tires every time the tire warning light comes on. Those associated with BMW are all aware of the problems with these tires but do not want to deal with the issue. But BMW is too reputable of a company not to take action. I leased a BMW in 2002 and purchased the car 4 years later with a full warranty. Recently I had a problem with the vehicle and took it to the dealer for them to check it. They told me that the engine needed to be replaced because of overheating and it was my fault. Thus, it was going to cost 14K to replace the engine which was according to them not covered by the warranty because of customer negligence.
I know that there is no customer negligence from my side because I took the car to them as soon as it started overheating, I have not driven it in that condition for more than a mile. I hardly think it can be blamed to me. Furthermore, a 5 year old car should not be overheating especially if it has less than 80,000 mileage. The car clearly has a manufacturing error. Trying to blame it on some one who has had several cars over the course of his life and trying to portray me as a novice driver can clearly not be the solution.
BMW has a great reputation for manufacturing cars of exceptional quality. My car unfortunately is not one of them. I have had problems with this car before. The check engine light kept burning from the time of purchase. I have had it repaired more than a dozen times probably. I think BMW should look into that problem first before blaming me for incompetence. I have driven for many years and clearly know enough about cars to know that something like this cannot be blamed on me.
Additionally, the service manager has been ignoring my calls and messages for the last 10 days. Only after I talked to BMW NA several times and complained about him not calling me and told the receptionist that I was going to report my car stolen if they would keep ignoring me the Manager picked up the phone and talked to me. the car is not even worth 14k to pay them that much money to get it repaired. A week after my purchase, I received a call from the lady in the finance department that handled my deal and was told that she had made a mistake and the car was not elligible for the extended maintence program. After a month of debates and being brushed off by the Finance Director, they agreed to accept the maintence program at their dealership and that if I had to take the car to a different BMW dealership for services that they would reinburse me accordingly. I received a letter from the dealership regarding this agreement by them and all has been well except now I feel locked into taking the car to their facility. ISSUE #2 A week after I purchased the vehicle, I drove thru an automated car wash and experienced a large amount of water spraying in from the driver side window. I set an appointment and brought the car back into Sterling for diagnosis. I was told that all seals on the convertible top needed to be replaced and that it would cost ME $2,500.00 to repair. After explainin that I had recently purchased the vehicle from THEIR lot, I declined the repair and took the car home. I called the Better Business Bureau and was told to take the car back once they had spoken with the service manager. The dealership said they had adjusted the door and the window and that the car should be fine. To this day, I have taken the car back 7 times regarding the same issue. They have changed ONE seal between the driver side front and rear windows and the car continues to leak when taken thru a carwash. I was recently told by the technician/service manager that ALL convertibles leak as they were not meant to be sprayed with water of a certain pressure directly. My ultimate wish would be that this dealership buy back my car so that I can find a vehicle with less problems. The car is currently in the service department at Sterling BMW for the same issue. I was informed that any BMW dealership could handle the lease return, so rather than choose the dealership I bought the car (~160 miles roundtrip), I chose the closest one, which was Escondido BMW, which was still 84 miles roundtrip. My two small children were with me, and when I arrived on the lot, I pleasantly stated I was here to return the car--that the lease was up today, and that Chase Financial instructed me to bring the car into the dealership, fill out some paperwork, and that they (Chase Financial) would then pick the car up from BMW. The sales managers I spoke with immediately became defensive in tone and said that I couldn't bring the car to their dealership, and that I had to go to the one in Irvine, where I bought the car.
Things escalated and it got to the point where I felt threatened, and I started to fear for my children's safety, because these two individuals were saying things like you don't deserve to own a BMW, and literally THREW their business cards at me when I told them I was going to complain to BMW of North America for their lack of customer service. They then proceeded to lock me and my children on their lot, behind a gate.
It was at that time my children began to cry. I was starting to panic, wondering what was going to happen to me and my children. Luckily, my brother was coming to pick us up, and he had arrived just in time. I am scared to think what might have happened. They finally unlocked the gate and let my children and me out, and then threatened to call the police for leaving the car (I was returning) on the lot, since it was private property. I just do not know what to do about this whole situation. Please someone help me.

They have to be entirely replaced. I went to the service department and without telling him what type of beamer I owned this gentleman said this happens in 3 series and only thing I can do is have it replaced entirely. It would cost about $500.00 Doesn't seem right that they cannot correct this obvious flaw with the 3 series car!

This dealer had our BMW for 2 weeks apparently ordering a part from Germany. When they called us to pick up the car they said it was fixed and driveable but it needed a 1350.00 computer to run perfectly. We picked up the car and drove about 100 ft and it did the exact same thing that we originally brought it in for. They charged us $591.00 to do absolutely nothing. We took the car to a different mechanic they repaired the car in one day for $122.00. We told them that we had taken the car through a car wash and it died. The only problem with the car was that water got into the computer and needed to be dried out and corrosion cleaned off the bottom of the board. The car runs fine now with a whole 30 minutes worth of labor. I will get our money back from BMW and rest assure this car will never see the light of their service dept. again. The better business bureau will also get a letter. Also when we walked back into the dealer to let them know the car was not repaired, the service manager said and I quote What do you want me to do about it? I have somewhere that I need to be.

This happens about once every few hundred miles, but has now become so severe that I am affraid to drive it, and certainly have any passengers that could potentially get their neck hurt from the sudden jolt. The car has been in several times for the transmission problem, and each time the response is that it is a software problem, but they were sorry but it could not be fixed. The last time, a week ago, the jerk was so severe that I had them come get the car and keep it till they identify the problem and get it fixed, for it is unsafe to drive. Save for the variables of mileage - 90K - and geographic location - Overland Park, KS - my story is exactly the same as 90% of the entries preceeding it. My 2000 BMW 323i was running perfectly well, probably in some part due to the religiously consistent maintenance and upkeep I've invested over the years, until a couple of weeks ago when, low and behold, my car wouldn't go into Reverse; it just revved like it was in Neutral.
The mechanic that I have used for years and trust spent a day and a half with it trying to figure out what exactly the probelm was, without having to lead me down the road of a new transmission, but, of course, that would be the remedy. I subsequently checked with the service manager at the local dealership to see, (after having read the hundreds of complaints here), if he had seen a lot of similar cars come through with this problem.
At first he tried to say he hadn't, but then when I reitterated that later in our conversation, he said, Well, I didn't say that. I just said they'd been random. He wouldn't even run a diagnostic on my car. In fact, he refused - he just immediately told me to come in and he'd replace the transmission. REALLY!? If I call my doctor with a stiff knee, is he going to immediately sign me up for knee replacement surgery without even seeing me? Gee, thanks - I was wondering what I was going to do with that extra $4800 in my pocket. btw, when I mentioned the 300+ complaints that I'd read about on just one website alone, he said, Well, that's not very many. Uh-huh. Let's see - I'd say those of us who have written here make up only about 10% of the people to whom this has actually happened.

He refilled the radiator and said it would most likely cost about $400.00 to replace the radiator and I should do it immediately. On Monday, March 12 I brought it to Natalie. I do not dealing with Natalie because I find her very rude however, about an hour after she took my car she told me that the radiator needed to be replaced and it would be almost $900.00. The charges was for the tests to determine the problem with the car. She refused to give me the document with the estimate on it. I paid this charge on my credit card and immediately brought the vehicle to BIll Gramley's auto repair. It took them about 10 minutes The cost for the replacement radiator was just under $300.00. The mechanic showed me spark plugs and filters that were supposed to have been replace at a recent servicing and was never complete. I am upset that I wasted my time at the dealership that should have been taking care of my car. The cost was obviousely excessive and they refuse to release the car till I am forced to pay a bill for $104.86. I bought a CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED 2002 325i in July 2004 from BMW of Murray in Salt Lake City, Utah. I was assured that this car was LIKE NEW with only 11,000 miles on it. Over the course of two and a half years there have been numerous little things that have went wrong. All 4 window regulators have been replaced, parts have literally fallen off (for which I was told, that is a cosmetic problem, not a DEFECT so I was expected to pay), one part that fell off , I had fixed only to discover that it was not repaired correctly and it fell off again!(They expect me to foot the bill for a neww repair!)several dash warning light repeatedly come on ( tail lights that I was charged as much as 7 dollars because it was supposedly the bulb only to discover later that the whole assembly was faulty. This is one of my issues now. The other has shorted out!) But the worst by far is the passenger side airbags. Within the last year, the dash warning light indicating a problem with the airbag system came on. I took it to Advantage BMW in League City Texas.
I was informed that there was a faulty seat belt tensioner on the front passenger side and it was replaced under warranty. A couple of weeks ago, when I went to get into my car, I noticed I had a flat on the front passenger side ( theer was a small nail in it). Changed it, problem solved. within a couple of days, the dash warning light once again indicated a problem with the airbag. Routine maintanance was close so I planned on taking it in the following week. A couple of days later driving thruogh my nieghborhood at about 15 MPH ( on a VERY WELL MAINTAINED road) I heard a loud pop and watched in shock as the passenger door panal popped off and the head liner pulled away from the door. The airbags themselves never actually deployed or expanded. I was not traveling at a high rate of speed, nor did I hit any pot holes (as I was initially told was probably the case. I informed them at the time that this had not happened)I took the car in on Friday. Daniel, the service associate I spoke with walked out to the car with me and upon looking at the airbags and hearing what had acured commented you didnt buy this new, did you? I informed him no that it was certified pre-owned. He then stated that the airbag in the door at some point had been deployed and must have been JUST PUT BACK IN!!!
I was told they would keep it over the week-end and check it out completely. Now its Tuesday and I just called to see what was going on with the car when Daniel informed me that there was damage to the uder side of the car and the code told them that I had hit something hard enough to simulate a roll over which had caused the problem and my best bet was to turn it in to MY insurance company!!!! I once again informed him how this had accured and taht they had already replaced one fauly part (supposedly!) on that airbag side (this was at the same time they replaced a tail light bulb for seven dollars that I did not need only to replace a faulty assembly later. Daniel seemed very unawrae that I had had an issue with it in the past. He then told me the little sensor would tell him exactly when it happened and he would review the service records and get back with me in 15 minutes.
That was over an hour ago. I still havent heard anything. This car was purchased for its QUALITY, SAFTY RECORD AND BMW'S SUPPOSEDLY EXCELLENT SERVICE ! I will pursue the to the fullest extent! The most frightening part of the whole thing is when the panels popped, the air-bags DID NOT DEPLOY LIKE THEY SHOULD HAVE! I thank god I wasnt in an accident because from what any reasonably intellegent person can fgure out, If they dont deploy, How could it possibly help in an actual crash! I await word from Daniel. Maybe he can do his job and look at the actual history of the things they have worked on on come up with a better solution. Sadly my husband and I have been discussing trading in for a new one because of the service plan but I think I may be looking at other Makes of autos now.

I have a BMW 528i which I bought in May 2000. On May 02, 2005, I took the car to complain about some noise was being generated when I turned the steering wheel, the dealer did not even diagnose the problem thoroughly and instead charged me over $675.72 after changing the Stabilizer Link and Ball Joint.
However, upon delivery of the car when I showed the mechanic that the noise did not subside whenever I was turning the steering wheel, he brought a can of power steering oil and poured into the car. The noise disappeared immediately. The Ann Arbor dealer refused to reimburse the money though the change of stabilizer joint was not unnecessary.
Again, on March 22, 2006, I took the car to BMW shop to discuss about that noise that started coming back again. The mechanic I talked to, asked me to set up an appointment for oil change and full check-up within a few weeks. I went inside the Service counter area while the mechanic opened the hood and poured some power steering oil. He also did something else.
When I got back to the car after setting up the appointment, the hood was down and the car was ready to go. My wife who was all along sitting in the passenger seat of my car said that the mechanic closed the hood after pouring the oil and some other fluids inside the car. Since the car was ready to drive, I and my wife drove the car out of the dealer's shop. However, we did not drive even 2 miles, when I noticed that the temperature gauge needle was moving towards the red zone. Fearing that something might have been wrong, we drove back to the BMW Service shop.
I told the mechanic about the problem. I had never experienced such heating problem before in any car I drove including the BMW. The mechanic and another Service person asked me and my wife to leave the car in the shop. After a day or so, the BMW dealer called me to give him an authorization to replace the thermostat to correct the problem and informed me that the repair would cost me about $180.
However, after several hours when I called them, they told me that the heating problem was persisting and they needed an unlimited authorization to diagnose the problem by checking the entire engine. They told me that the car was not ready for delivery since the engine would be getting heated up. When I refused to give such authorization and wanted to take to their head office and also BMW, they held back the car in dealer's shop from March 24 to April 10 without doing anything. BMW mecahnic gve me an estimate of $1500 for them to fix the problem.
They did not give me any substitute car either though I complained about the difficulties I was experiencing without my car that I drive everyday to my work and other places. Finally, I decided to get the car towed to another service shop who are also specialized in BMW cars. Upon taking the delivery of the car, I decided to drive the car at first to find out whether the engine would get heated up within a couple of miles.
I told the towing company to be ready to tow the car if it gets heated up. I drove for several miles and then several months, it never got heated up. It was clear that the BMW dealer was agian trying to squeeze out $1,500 from me by falsely reporting about the heating problem, which was corrected after they replaced the thermostat on March 24, 2006.
However, instead of releasing the car, the dealer demanded unlimited authorization for unspecified work that would cost me at least $1,500. Using that pretext, it did not release the car for 18 days, thereby causing an immense amount of personal and business inconveniences for me and my wife. We had to make several oral and written complaints to BMW North America and Sonic Automotive, the owner of Ann Arbor BMW dealer.

After making our first payment of a 3-year loan last month, we put the car into reverse to back out of the driveway and it would not go into reverse. No prior warning, no symptoms, it just failed to go into reverse gear. We are going to attempt to make BMW liable for this obvious mechanical defect in the 2000 323 series cars. From what we hear, they are not saying that there is a defect or recall. They are selling a high-end car with a high-end price tag but apparently are producing a substandard quality car. If there is no defect, then is this the quality they are knowingly producing? We are seeing people on this web site with as little as 36,000 miles with a shot transmission. If so, you can buy a Kia or a Hyundai for less than half the price instead of buying a BMW that is supposed to be a well-made car.
The consequences are that I cannot afford to repair a transmission. I am paying $400 a month for the next three years for a car that I cannot drive and thus, must take Metro North to work in Manhattan at a cost of $300 per month and I don't even have a car to get to the station. My wife must get up and leave the kids at home alone to get ready for school while she drives me to take a train at 6:00 a.m. We plan to do everything we can to get BMW to be held accountable for this. I am writing to you directly with the hope that you can assist me with the following problem I am having with the Miami Brahman BMW Dealership. I leased my car in the beginning of November 2005. I never felt truly comfortable with the way the car was handling the road, always pulling towards one side. It turned into a nightmare one clear sunny day in May 2006 when I was driving on a straight residential road in Miami. While hitting a bump at a speed of about 30 mph, the car suddently swirved right and I collided with a parked car.
It was incomprehensible for me why the car swirved like that; however, not knowing the mechanics of it, I felt responsible and had the car reparied through my insurance. The car was taken to Braman BMW and it took them three months to repair during which I was never offered a loaner customer car. The whole experience was quite long and frustrating as a couple of advisors were changed in the process and I was never updated on the progress. I received the car back in August and immediately experienced various problems and had taken it to be serviced and checked a few times. In addition, I kept feeling that the steering was just not quite right and that the car was not handling the road as a BMW should; and always brought it up to the service advisors attention. On Tuesday, March 20, 2007 I brought the car to Braman BMW to be serviced due to the fact that I kept experiencing a louder and stranger noice while steering and a faulty blinker. The blinker was fixed but I was advised by the service advisor that they did not find any problems with the steering.
On Wednesday, March 21, while driving straight on 195 highway at about 55 mph, the car suddenly jerked to the left and spun 360 degrees. Luckily, I did not hit anything and even though I was a bit shaken thinking perhaps it was a slippery patch, I kept driving at a lower speed. As I continued to drive straight on a I-95 North, once again the tires of my car just went towards the left and I had absolutely no control over the steering.
This time I was not as luck as I was spinning all over the lanes on a major highway and ended up crashing into the side wall. Immediately, I brought the car on Thursay, March 22, to Braman once again and told Mr. Rouco, the Service Director, that the car was in his department the day before. His reply was that he never heard of such a problem and to contact Customer Relations which I did by speaking to a representative who advised me that a BMW engineer would come to inspect my car. After waiting few weeks, the inspector did not find any problems with the car but was not able to drive the car due to the faulty alignment which he assumed was from the accident.
However, he stated that the car hydroplaned due to the severely low thread on the tires. The car has about $13000 miles and has been driven for only about one year. It was brought to service a couple of times, it should have been noted that the tires were low. I am extremely frustruated with the dealership for not advising me of any potential danger of the tires which they believe caused the cause.

All these cars were bought before I realized that these cars typically have bad transmissions. I was told by a mechanic that the transmission was going out on the red BMW and any day I could be left stranded. I traded it in right away for a new car(NOT a BMW). And then within a couple months the transmission in the black car went out. I can only hope that the 1999 won't have a problem. All three of these cars have also had air conditioning problems. When you own more than 1 of these, you really notice the things that are of poor quality in the vehicle.

The car gave me no warning of an overheating problem.
No warning light; no temperature gage, no smoke from the tail pipe or radiator. No warning. However, in January 2006, the radiator did burst open. Was deeply concern when I got home because when I tried to restart the engine, the idle was flexing from 600 rpm to 1800 rpm. Repeated restarting the engines about 5 times but same thing happened. Went to bed determine to call a local dealership in the morning. Once morning, I called the local BMW dealership but seems everyone was busy, weird thing was that my car started fine that morning. Went through the day and it worked like normal, no problems what so ever.
Figure if it happens again, I'll call BMW right away.

Luckily with my quick reaction, I was able to restart the engine while rolling about 40 miles an hour to regain control. Brought my car in the next day, after couple days of troubleshooting, they told me it was a software problem and had to reload my software but my warranty expired on Jan. 29th 2007. Told them the problem was prior to the warranty expiring but all the service manager said was BMW doesn't warranty it's car forever.
Correct me if I am wrong but couldn't they find the problem happened before I brought it in by checking the logs? Also since it's a BMW Sofware Malfunction, isn't it an engineering problem? Also this problem was due to BMW Engineers writing a bad software why should I pay to get this fix? And they want somewhere around 2,000 usd to fix this...

I drove down to colorado to go skiing during winter break. I had done a transmission flush not too long before, so i was driving up there with new transmission fluid. It drove fine in the cold weather, up until the morning after we arrived. When i started up the car, an exclamation mark came on exclaiming the transmission had failed. I wasn't sure what the problem was, but i figured we were in cold weather so the only plausible answer would be that it had frozen solid so i waited for the car to warm up.
Once it reach normal temperature, i turned off the car, started it back up and the transmission was fine. Still i was worried. This was the winter of 2005. Just two weeks ago, i took my car in to the dealership because i heard strange sounds coming from the engine compartment which sounded like grinding and clicking. They said they found nothing wrong with the transmission and racked up a bill of $3000. I asked the dealership to give me a detailed list of the problems they found with the car to decipher what was critical to fix (also, i wanted to get a second opinion from our mechanic). I did not recieve a list upon recieving the car, nor did i recieve the list upon calling them and leaving five messages.
Just this weekend, i had our mechanic take a look at the car, i listed every problem i could remember bmw mentioning. He fixed a couple hoses, changed my breaks, and the next day when I was pulling out of a parking lot, my car jumped and it sounded as if i had hit something. I slammed on the brakes and hopped out of the car, but nothing was there. I got back in the car and drove home.
When i was planning on driving back to Austin from Houston, i placed it in reverse, stepped on the gas but the car did not budge (as if it was still in neutral). However, i could heard what sounded like grinding gears below me, and much louder than before. I'm lucky that i realized it had broken when i did; driving at speeds over 70 miles an hour with a busted transmission can't lead to anything good. That's an accident waiting to happen that BMW didn't help me avoid.

i declined to have the repair done at the time and picked up my vehicle. this past jan. 12th 2007 i took my vehicle to a reputable service center and requested my rear pads and rotors be replaced, and submitted the parts list i was given by schaeffer bmw back in september. when i picked my vehicle up,i was surprised to learn that not only were my rear pads and rotors fine, but there was hardly any wear, and the problem was w/ my front pads and rotors. i also was informed that my fronts were factory! the remarkably loud grinding was gone as well. i took my old pads and rotors back to schaeffer bmw wanting some sort of explanation,as well as compensation. the service tech took measurements of my old front pads, made a copy of my service receipt from the other center, and i was told that Glenn Sharpe would be in touch the following monday.
i also decided at that point to get bmw north america involved just to be safe. well the following monday i was contacted by bmw n.a. and was told that they spoke with glenn sharpe and he claimed that the vehicle now has 8k more miles then it did back in september, and that the after market pads were the cause of my problem, and that they must have loosened up and stopped grinding.i told bmw n.a. that i find that hard to believe being all of this transpired the moment the front pads and rotors were replaced!they informed me that i was over my 50k mile warranty at this time and that my brake sensor light never came on,and that because of all of this schaeffer bmw wasn't going to do a thing.@ this point i had serious doubts as to whether my rears were in fact aftermarket or not,so i returned to the reputable service center to find out.they claim they are indeed factory and should have been covered when i was under the 50k mile warranty. i then went to schaeffer bmw with this new info, and spoke w/ glenn about this,he was very stand offish, and offered to have his people take a third look. a little while later glenn returned and said they were indeed aftermarket,(and that even though it was obvious to me the problem was the fronts the whole time), it still could have been the rears and since i am now over the 50k mile mark we'll never know.
He also made several remarks about me calling bmw n.a.,and him having to answer to them,as well as the fact i bought the vehicle used. i bought this car w/ 36k miles on it,and did not have any brake issues until 49k miles, the service center that ended up fixing the problem could have charged me for the rears as welll and i would have never known the difference.
i found out later that rear pads should last at least 100k miles, and that they wear at half the rate the fronts do. i cannot understand why not only can't bmw diagnose a simple brake issue that was fixed by a non-bmw service center in a matter of 2 hours, but also why can they not even come close to admitting they may have made a mistake. Mr. sharpe also stated to me that no one ever said my problem was with the rear pads and rotors, but that they only implied the rears were aftermarket. that is a flat out lie,i have a service rep. on record stating my problem was my rear pads and rotors, but unfortunately they were not covered by the warranty because they aftermarket.
i am out approximately $400.00 for front pads

I own a 1998 BMW Z3. I was very excited when I bought it, as BMWs have the reputation of being fine, long lasting automobiles. 1) Shortly after I purchased the car the convertible top failed at a seam, allowing water to leak into the rear portion of the car.
The amplifier for the sound system got wet and immediately destroyed everything attached to it. When removed, it had obviously been on fire, but luckily this fire did not spread. Battery also partially submerged. BMW quotes over $2000 to replace convertible top, and over $1000 to replace stereo. I had the top replaced. After it is replaced I notice several scratches in the paint which were not there before. Complementary repair refused. Automatic top no longer worked. Complementary repair refused. New top looks different than old one, I suspect that an aftermarket top used rather than a BMW factory part. New top lasted about 6 months before failing. Complementary repair refused.
To this day I cannot store anything in the trunk that cannot get wet. Trunk lining mildewed. Visible water damage in convertible top stowage tray. During wet conditions, windshield fogs due to water in the car.
During winter I have to scrape frost off the outside and inside of the windshield. 2) Drivers power window failed. This is highly inconvenient since I am in the military and have to frequently show ID to get onto different parts of base. 3) Glove box supports failed, disconnecting from dashboard. Local repair impossible, must replace entire dashboard. 4) Oil drain plug strips almost every time I have the oil changed, requiring the oil pan to be tapped for a new one. Will have to replace oil pan soon. 5) Parts of the suspension mysteriously bent for no apparent reason. Ruined a set of tires in addition to having to replace these components. 6) Vacuum hose in engine catastrophically failed, disintegrating. I have no idea how this could possibly happen. 7) Exhaust started making horrible noises. A piece of the system had fallen off in the pipes, rattling around. Required removal and re-installment of exhaust. Still doesn't sound right, I think there is a leak. 8) Airbag light never goes off, despite being reassured that the system has no faults. 9) Seats are not anchored well. Frequently shift while driving. 10) Sometimes I can't get manual transmission into gear, specifically 1st. 11) Dashboard LEDs failed. Minor problem, but a pain to fix. 12) Recently I have noticed power losses.
It feels like the rev limiter kicks in at 3500 RPM, but RPMs continue to rise. Accelerates like a Geo Metro, no kick at all. Makes passing on the interstate impossible. I am not sure yet if this is a computer or engine problem. This is the most expensive and lowest quality vehicle I have ever owned. I had a Plymouth which lasted to 300k miles with only minor repairs that I could do myself. After that I had a Ford that I sold with 170k miles, running well with only tire and fluid changes, and a gasket here and there.

I have brought the car to the dealership on numerous occasions, always with the similar computer related problems, which were never truly addressed by Open Road BMW. Specifically, on few occasions when the computer had shut down the mileage on the screen jumped and when the screen came back on the mileage failed to match the actual mileage.
On another occasion I turned on the car and the mileage on the screen displayed 999999999. I have advised the BMW of North America of this issue and have it documented as well. While I can continue to list the endless problems, failures and violation on behalf of the BMW of North America that seems redundant. I have obtained all documentation in support of my claim. The ongoing problems with this vehicle constantly forced me to take time off my busy schedule and bring the car for service. I have notified the employees of the BMW service that this vehicle is unacceptable and needs to be replaced. However, time and time again I was assured that everything would be fixed. Nonetheless, I would be back at the dealership service station the following month with the same problem. This run-around has caused me not only severe inconvenience, but significant monetary losses. I am self employed and each day that I had to spend trying to get this vehicle repaired meant significant monetary loss for my business. Now, to my great surprise and disappointment, after all of the problems that I've endured and time wasted, the BMW of North America sends me a bill for excessive mileage?!
Forgive my frustrations, but this seems absurd. Instead of BMW replacing the poorly constructed vehicle when they first learned of the problem, I was forced to keep the vehicle. Upon the request of the dealership I did not contact the Lemon Law attorneys previously, nor did I report this problem to public factor and consumer affairs. However, at this point I feel that I personally cannot this issue with the BMW of North America. Thus, I turn to you for help. I feel that BMW of North America and Open Road BMW specifically, have bluntly defrauded me from obtaining proper services and appropriate resolution to this issue.
The staff at the dealership kept reassuring me that everything will be resolved in my best interest and now, after speaking with a Lemon Law attorney, I learn that this was just a clever scam on behalf of the dealership to get me to return the vehicle. As it turns out, in the state of New Jersey (where the vehicle was leased from) Lemon Law states that the vehicle must be in my possession in order for me to file a claim. It is now clear to me why the dealership is not responding to any of my phone calls or letters, as they were so eager to do while I still had the vehicle in my possession. I have sent numerous letters and made numerous phone calls to Open Road BMW, their branch manger David Branch, BMW Financial Services, all with no response. I turn to you for help, as I feel that the fees I am presently being charged with are unfair and fraudulent.
This vehicle was clearly a LEMON. The approach taken by the dealership further shows disregard for NJ State lemon law. The dealership was aware that this vehicle needed to be replaced, yet they did everything in their power to stop me from doing so.

Have taken the car for service numerous times unable to duplicate the problems...so Ive gotten no where except that Corporate BMW of North America informed the dealership not to service my car which is under full warranty until 4/50,000 and i have only 19,000 miles on it .. I purchased a 2006 BMW 325i, it now has 14,000 miles on it and I was just told that the run-flat tires need to be replaced. Cost? $1200. Now, had I known that the life of these tires were only 14,000 miles I would not have purchased it. They neglect to tell you this. I am very upset over this. I cannot spend $1200 for run-flat tires every year. I do not even speed nor drive my car in town, it is mostly all highway miles, this should not have happened. I am very disappointed in BMW for not thinking this out. At this point I do not know what to do. Quite frankly I feel that BMW should replace the tires at their expense if they need to be replaced before 25,000 miles. What a joke. To pay all of that money for a vehicle and end up having to replace tires after 14,000 miles is ridiculous.

After getting that fixed by the dealership in colorado springs my water pump blew while I was on the pass to the san luis valley (in the middle of no where). Where the car over heated and started smoking after paying $800 to have it towed back to the springs they had to replace my entire engine costing over 7,000. Once I got that fixed the damn themostat went out again and had to be completely replaced. After that the damn starter went out on my car. Reminder this is all within maybe a month or so between problems getting fixed.
My damn engine light just came on again with the check filter cap light, and gues what when I called BMW about the check filter cap light because it was not in the instruction manual they had no idea what the check filter cap light even was. The mechanic said he had never heard or seen that before. This is a mechanic from Murrary Motors BMW in Denver Colorado.

I bought my 2000 BMW 323i in February of 2002. It was used by the dealership as a rental, so it had very low mileage. I was extremely happy with my ultimate driving machine until the spring of 2006 when the right, back window wouldn't go up. Luckily it doesn't rain much in LA so it wasn't a big problem. That was fixed in july. Soon, the car started to stall on a very eratic basis. It would run fine for a few days, then it would stall several times in a row. That was fixed in early September. One week later my reverse went MIA. The reverse setting might as well be neutral. The mechanic I go to, now that the warranty is up, said the company that makes the part needed to fix the problem doesn't make it anymore. He suggested I take my car to a transmission shop. They may be able to fix it without having to replace the whole transmission. I've been looking at several websites. This seems to be a very wide-spread problem. Why doesn't BMW do something to prevent alienating customers? I've always had great experiences with them until now.

I was getting ready to leave my house when I heard my car alarm going off. I looked out the window and noticed nothing, no cars, people, etc. I didnt think much of it. A few moments later the alarm sounded again. At this point I went down to the car to investigate. I noticed the lights were blinking in an odd patern. As I approached the vehicle I could see smoke inside the car. I quickly tried to unlock the doors with my keyless entry which didnt work at this point. I opended the door manually and noticed flames inside the ventalation ducts on the dashboard. Within a few minutes the entire car was engulfed in flames. After an extensive investigation by fire marshalls and detectives it was concluded that the fire started under the dashboard. Basically the car caught itself on fire!!! There were no aftermarket accesories, or any kind of devices that could cause this to happen. I've contacted BMW corporate and have heard nothing as to whats going to happen next.

In 6/2006, I purchased a new BMW 2006 325i sedan. The driver seat is uncomfortable to very low back of 3 drivers of my new car. I reported the complaint to BMW of Chattanooga and it was agreed the seat needed new padding in seat bottom. A PUMA complaint was made with BMW of North America and new padding in bottom seat was installed. However, this did not solve the problem. The driver seat continues to have a gap between back of seat and bottom of seat and the padding in bottom seat is very soft, which causes very low back pain to drivers of the vehicle. I was told by BMW of Chattanooga service manager that a Regional BMW of North America Rep, Neil Ashton, looked at the car seat and said it was not defective but that seat design and structure was changed in 2006. I was shown a car like mine that was supposedly the car driven by BMW of North America rep who had same complaints and he had to use a low cushion support to correct the problem. BMW of Chattanooga service manager agreed to purchase me the same support cushion that BMW of North America regional rep, Neil Ashton, found necessary to use because of seat structure and discomfort. I requested a new seat but the service manager said I would continue to have a problem because the seat would conform to my body and cause the padding to change in contour.
I made a complaint to BMW of North America by phone and the response was that the regional rep , Neil Ashton, had the final say and there was nothing that could be done to correct the seat problem. I have owned 5 new 325 BMW's since 1994. I have never had a problem with the seats or felt they were uncomfortable. I now own a 2004 325i and the new 2006 325i. Due to the back pain caused by the seat problem in the 2006, I am unable to drive the car and have to drive my 2004. In addition, on 8/7/2004, I requested a written decision by BMW of NA and BMW of Chattanooga but have not received as yet. I have called the General Manager of BMW of Chattanooga and left messages for him to call but he will not return my calls. I have purchased 4 of the 5 BMW's that I have owned from BMW of Chattanooga. I have been a loyal BMW customer but apparently BMW will not stand by the car warranty so I will never purchase another BMW. I now have a 2006 325i sedan that I cannot drive longer than an hour without having significant low back pain.

After having my 1997 BMW 540i (E39) serviced for a persistent and recurring airbag indicator light at least twice, the front driver's side, door-mounted airbag detonated while the car was at rest in a parking lot. No accident or impact caused the airbag to deploy. I only turned on the car and closed the door. My 3-year-old son who was in his booster seat in the left rear side of the vehicle was hit by flying pieces of hard material from inside the door, causing several slight cuts to his face and hand.
Neither my wife or infant daughter were injured, but all of us -- and passersby -- were shocked by the unexpected deployment. I was hit in the left arm by the airbag and bruised when the airbag flung my arm and watch into my body. I took the car in for service and did not think of the problem further at this point.
Later, the unexpected airbag deployment prompted me to contact BMW of North America who logged my problem and indicated that someone from BMW would contact me to investigate the matter. Within 48 hours, Derek of BMW of North America contacted me to understand the problem. I indicated that the spontanious airbag problem was a safety-related concern. Derek/BMW requested the technician to send him the airbag, sensor, and control unit for investigation/analysis.
My car was repaired, and the BMW diagnostic software showed that the system was not throwing a fault code. Derek/BMW contacted the technician and indicated that based on the system's current performance he could return the car to me. When the technician started the vehicle, however, the driver's side airbag deployed once again on him!
The technician contacted Derek/BMW and informed him of the 2nd airbag deployment. Derek/BMW indicate to me that BMW would fly an engineer from New Jersey to Illinois to inspect the vehicle. April 20, 2006: I learned from the technician that the BMW engineer had inspected the vehicle over two days on April 18 and 19 but did not indicate the source of the problem to the technician or how to resolve it. BMW instructed the technician to leave the vehicle alone and await further information after they reviewed their findings.
April 26, 2006: Between April 21 and April 26, I have contacted BMW/Derek several times and requested information or status on the vehicle, indicating that I would like to resolve this safety-related concern quickly and amicably so that I could receive my vehicle back in proper working order without fear of future, possibly dangerous airbag detonations. As of today, I do not know the condition of my vehicle and whether or not it is repairable. BMW/Derek has maintained contact with me, but has indicated only that the enginers have not concluded their analysis.

I purchased a new 2005 BMW330i in September. I was very happy with the purchase and had saved for years to do so. On December 1, 05 while driving to work I turned on the heater and noticed a strange smell. Within one minute smoke began to roll from under the hood. I was in the middle lane and put the car in park. I was in the midst of fast moving traffic and couldn't get out of the car. Within two minutes flames were visible from under the hood. I am certain that if a police officer, who was two cars behind me, hadn't been there to stop traffic I may not be here to tell my story. The car was towed to my local BMW shop where I was assured this was very rare and that BMW would do everything they could to make the situation right.
BMW was supposed to send an investigator from the corporate office in New Jersey to inspect the vehicle to try and determine the cause of the fire. I was told that would take 48 hours. I informed the rep. from New Jersey and the service manager at the dealership that my insurance company and I wanted to be present at the inspection. Keep in mind that all this happened on Dec. 1 ,05. After several phone calls and 2 weeks later I was told that the rep would be at the dealership on the 14th. I was assured that I would be called when he arrived.
On Monday the 19th I received a phone call from the service manager at VOB and he informed me that the inspector had been there on Friday the 16th. Of course I was not present and neither was my insurance company. In short BMW was unable to determine the cause of the fire. It should be noted that the inspector had no fire training and that the car was never taken apart. (Big surprise no cause could be found) So BMW won't do anything because it's not their responsibility. To add insult to injury they want the loaner car back and now the insurance company doesn't want to pay without proof that it wasn't a manufacturer's defect. Now we're out $40,000.00 and no car.

To all the M5 owners listen up. Maybe this will shed light on the future of your precious M5. I was once a proud owner of the Fastest Luxury Sedan in the world. The veil has been taken off and the truth has been revealed. This rare car we all relish in is nothing more then a ticking time bomb. Why does he say this do you ask? My friend is a Certified BMW tech that has trained and worked on these M5’s extensively for 30 years. He agrees there is a major flaw in the reliability of this engine. He has won several awards from BMW before leaving the company to pursue other endeavors.
The car despite its elegant lines and performance of a Ferrari has a fatal flaw. I have had cars in the past with issues, like blowing the tranni on a 911, or blowing up the rear end of my Corvette. Never, and I say never have I encountered a problem like I did with this M5. I hate to say this but its “The Ultimate money guzzling machine.” I was not aware of the Vanos issues this car has.
If you search for Vanos failure or oil leaks it will really surprise you. This is a serious problem that BMW refuses to recognize on their prize gem. They don’t want to admit that their precious baby has a fatal recurring flaw. I would understand if this was a freak occurrence, but ITS NOT. Not just the research but also certain BMW mechanics no longer under the yolk of BMW have attested to this. I have seen 100’s of examples of the Vanos failure on the E39 M5. If it hasn’t happened to you, just wait. Whether it was under warranty at 10,000 miles or at 70,000 miles like mine. There is no excuse for a $10,000 repair not related to replacing the engine for a car of this statute.
I know damn well the E55 does not have any kind of Vanos issues. They have had their problems, but as I can see their cars runs much better then BMW. The problem is the beauty and sophistication of this engine. I hate to say it, but I miss my meat and potatoes days. My old 96 vette with the Lt4 engine may have been a simple 350, but they just seem more reliable. My hat is off to the ridiculous efforts of the Motor ports guys for taking an F1 engine and throwing it in a sedan. They forget one important rule when doing this. The engine’s roots come from a million dollar car designed to run the 24 Le-mans not everyday driving.
A perfect example is the issue with the new E60’s Vanos line failure. The car is brand new and is already having problems. BMW is becoming a Mercedes in their pursuit for all automatic cars. SMG, AMG is there really a difference? Its sad really, The Ultimate driving machine is no longer there. I said it once and I will say it again, not letting some computer assisted squirrel sequential transmission do all the driving. Therefore BMW becomes no better then a Mercedes.
I can’t imagine what the cost will be in 6 years when the warranty is up on that silly intricate 7-speed tranni. I bet people will be selling their second cars to pay for the SMG.
Then the looks are another story. If the majority of the community has to adjust to the E60, then something is wrong. I am sure as hell not going to buy a car for a 100 grand and have to adjust to its looks. Whether or not its mechanics are beyond perfect is not the issue. What good is driving fast if you can’t look good doing it?
Compare the CL 55 to the E60 on looks and even performance and the Mercedes walks away with the Cover of Sports Illustrated. I have said my peace on this already. I am getting off track. That’s another story, but kind of related. Furthermore, the integrity of the E39 is at risk. Now that it is 2006 those M5’s that are not garage queens are easing closer to the 100,000 mark. Now things are becoming quite apparent on the longevity of the S62 engine.
I remember when the E34 and E28 cars could run into the 300,000-mile range, some on the original clutch if you can believe this. If your car has 150,000 miles consider yourself a good driver and really lucky, but for the most part there are too many of these Vanos failures to just let slip through the cracks. Remember there is a handful of these cars on the planet, and I believe more than 60% of them have Vanos issues. Not to mention the annoying clutch that is as weak as a 525i, actually same clutch. How can that be? I am not going to even touch on Carbon Build up and the severity of the cost.
