My dad is in a car dealership business, so he's aware about the best coverage. When I told him that I needed something that was going to look out for me, he said he had a company that would work for me and he got me AUL Corp. He looked at what the policy would cover in the event something happens and said that they may be my go-to moving forward.
So far, they've been excellent. After I got my warranty, I started driving my car and it sounded like my gears wouldn't shift. I went to Nissan and they said they'd take a look at it. Then they called me back and told me that I had AUL Corp. I already had it in my mind that I was going to end up having to pay at least a couple of $1,000 but I paid them a deductible and they came through for me. Even though I didn't get to speak with them initially, the way that I was handled when I needed them to come through for me with the dealership was a breeze. I ended up needing a transmission and they took care of that. They also ended up taking care of the leak. But everything else that was maintenance, I took care of it. I would recommend AUL Corp. to everybody because of my experience. If anything was going to prevent me from not operating my vehicle at full potential, they would take care of it and I'm more than grateful.

Thank you so much for this positive feedback!

I purchased a 2018 Ford Explorer two years ago in Tennessee. The dealer gave me the extended warranty through AUL for close to $3000. I’ve never had to use it until now. Sunday my APIM went out. Screen and radio won’t work. The vehicle went into limp mode and check engine light came on. I was able to drive it the two miles back to my house at 10mph. Couldn’t call to file a claim until Monday. Was never able to get anyone on the phone Monday and finally got it towed to a Ford place on Tuesday to at least get the ball rolling.
The mechanic called today (Thursday) and said he spoke to my warranty company and they will only cover portion of what’s needed to fix my radio/screen issues and I would need to come out of pocket over $500 for that alone. He said I also need a grill shutter and throttle body which is what’s causing the check engine light and limp mode. In total I have to come out of pocket $2,145 to get my car back functioning properly on the road (given this came completely out of nowhere, my car was never noticeably running differently.) After extensively reviewing my contract agreement I called AUL and sat on hold for quite some time to get some sort of understanding on how the throttle body and grill shutter are not covered.
To my dismay the lady on the other end was apparently not happy with these questions and very aggressive with her responses. “A throttle body isn’t covered! It’s in section 8 letter L”. I try to explain that this states that ADJUSTMENTS to the throttle body aren’t covered but this isn’t an adjustment. It’s an entire replacement. “Yes well Throttle body isn’t covered in your plan”. I am trying to not get overwhelmed and still get some sort of answers from her so I move on to the grill shutter situation and said, "Okay well the grill shutter, I’m also wondering how that isn’t covered? My Estate coverage says it covers the radiator and the cooling group. But I’m not understanding how the grill shutter isn’t a part of that. It won’t open, if it doesn’t open my car will overheat causing way more damage than what just that costs." “It’s not in your plan ma’am is there anything else you need”.
So I move on to ask about a rental and she said they will reimburse up to 5 days. So I got off the phone and now I just want to CRY. I got the warranty that seemed to cover just about everything and have never used it. I have less than a 1000 miles left on it too. A full time job and two kids and no way from point A to point B and terrified to get a rental and pay for it and AUL decide not to reimburse that either then barely have the money to pay for the actual service and parts. Not to mention I live in Louisiana now and was just hit by hurricane Ida and we are still recovering from that. Two weeks without power and spending every dime on gas for the generator. I’m truly just at a loss for words right now. I have never had such a terrible experience.

The dealer sold me the AUL contract and he told me about the specific details like how all the moving parts are covered. My car broke down and I just called someone to tow it up and get me to the dealer. The AUL reps were pretty responsive. I gave the dealer the AUL insurance number and he said that the thing that broke down was not covered. AUL's warranty is okay given the things that are covered. If those break, it's gonna be one hell of a cost so compared to that, the warranty is okay. You should go for AUL if you're buying a used car. For that, I would surely recommend them.

Thank you so much for your review. We do our absolute best to take care of our contract holders.

When trying to file a claim the people doing my service said they could not be on hold for the 30 min wait when they called your number. I had to file a claim at a later date but any time I called there was a very long wait also. If you could hire more people to answer phones and process claims that would solve this issue. I am glad that after all is said and done you were able to cover some of the repairs. I probably would not get or recommend the AUL warranty contract again due to the inconvenience we had.

Thank you for the quick response. I will absolutely pass along your feedback. Thanks again.

When I purchased the plan I asked specifically if it covered sensors, and was told it did. My speed sensor went out causing the ABS, traction control, and trailer breaking light to come on in my '16 GMC Canyon. AUL informed me that this is not covered. Save your money, they will not cover cost. A sensor should not be considered a maintenance wear part like brakes would be.

At first, I was told that there was a bunch of work that I would have to pay for before the warranty would cover anything. But then, AUL said they’d take care of it for me. I paid $1,600 and then a $250 deductible for $3,200 worth of work. The extended warranty was worth the money. So overall, I'm pretty satisfied with it.

I purchased a 2011 Cadillac CTS from Sac River Auto in Davis, CA on April 26, 2021. At the time I purchased the car, I also bought the extended warranty to cover any issues that came up. There is no future start up date listed on this warranty application so no time limitations in my estimation. I took the car to the Cadillac dealership in Chico, CA to get a new fob and have it paired with the car (the one that came with it was in sad shape). Unfortunately, the service engine soon light had come on and I had them go ahead and check it out. They needed to replace a couple of valves that were leaking, and all 4 motor mounts are broken. A $2500 fix.
The dealership contacted AUL and they said since the contract was so new, they wouldn't cover any of the problems with this car. I did purchase it AS IS, but it was my understanding that an extended warranty, that has been bought and paid for, as part of the purchase of a vehicle was good for the duration of the contract - no matter what the timeline. I realize that I have not had the car very long, but did not anticipate any issues this early in the process. I live on a fixed income and this is quite a hit.

It was very difficult to deal with both the dealership and AUL. They both wanted to point fingers at each other saying, “We can't do this because it's the other one's problem." I finally ended up having to call and get both of them on with me instead of one call and saying one thing, and then the other call, it saying a different thing. And I'm paying for a warranty. For one, I shouldn't have to worry myself about that. They should be able to work that out between themselves. The warranty process was hard to deal with. I was very dissatisfied with the whole process. But AUL went above and beyond. Because when I bought the truck, the family that I bought it from, they weren't with the gentleman when he purchased the truck. So they didn't hear the dealership say that you had to take it back to the same dealership to have it serviced.
I took it to a different dealership, to one that was quite a bit closer to me. AUL did warranty the truck at a different dealership within 60 miles of the previous dealership. But the only reason that they did that was because of me being told by the person that I bought the truck from that I could take it to any Ford dealership, they would warranty the truck.
Then when AUL told the dealership that they wouldn't deal with the dealership anymore, that it had to be taken back to the previous dealership, they called me with a bill, saying that I had a $175 diagnostic fee. Then I was going to have to have it towed to the other dealership because the truck wouldn't run. I finally got ahold of somebody at AUL. They ended up warrantying it because there was going to be that fee. Because I point-blank asked, “Who's gonna pay?” because I was told one thing. I had to go through the whole process of getting the warranty transferred over into my name. I asked the agent that I dealt with, “I'm taking the truck to this dealership. Is that okay?” She said, “Yes, that would be no problem.” So, when I called back and I spoke to the supervisor to get that all worked out, they did warranty it at a different dealership.

There was something between the transmission and the motor and it was leaking. I had to take the car to the shop and they did everything from there. The shop talked to the AUL Corp people. Purchased a vehicle early last year. Eventually my driveshaft had to be replaced but I was unaware of the service contract I purchased. When I found out that it would've been eligible. I contacted AUL and was easy to talk to a live person. They just requested a copy of the repair invoice, a snapshot of my current mileage and within 2 weeks, I was refunded the full amount less the $100 deductible. Subsequent repairs to my vehicle was coordinated between the shop and AUL and was always very smooth and no other hidden fees which gave me peace of mind.

I called numerous places and I thought AUL was the best. I knew somebody that has it and they said they were really good, so I chose this company. However, it's more expensive and they wouldn't give me a bumper-to-bumper warranty because of the age of my vehicle. My car was in the shop last month, and it was $1,700 to fix it. They took 1,000 off my total amount and lowered my payments because the warranty did not cover what was wrong with it. That’s cool. They did the best they could, but they don't cover what I need them to cover. My car has been in the shop four times and AUL never covered anything. I almost canceled. It's not that great, but let's hope that if my engine goes out, they cover that.

The front end was bad on the truck. It needed both sets of ball joints and everything on both sides in the front. I took the truck to the shop and they wrote up the estimate. They contacted AUL and AUL came out and looked at it. They determined what they were gonna pay. They only paid one side, so I'm not happy with it but I can't do anything about that. The mechanic battled with AUL but they wouldn't do it. You can't do one side without doing the other. So, I had no choice but to get it done and it ended up costing me $600. AUL should have paid it all minus my deductible. I was very disappointed. I will not recommend them to anybody but I got it now, so it's paid off and I'm gonna keep it.

We're glad we got AUL Corp for our used pickup ‘cause we actually needed it. We had to have an injector pump put on the pickup and then we also had the front differential go out on it. They told us what they were gonna cover and everything got taken care of. The cost was fair as well. However, they need to do a better job of clarifying with their clients as far as with the dealerships. We had no bad experience contacting AUL, but there were some things that were unclear and it was confusing for a while. We had to find some different things out, and through a little investigation, they were cleared up. My wife used to write service contracts through GMAC and a couple other ones, so she knew a lot about it.
Most people don't read through the fine print, but my wife goes through the fine print very thoroughly and she could not find the limit. If there's a limit, that needs to be clear. They said, “Well, you have a limit on it.” I said, “It wasn't disclosed to us what that limit was.” They need to do a better job of making sure that that is on the upfront because that's where the confusion was. Once we got it clarified, everything worked out. AUL Corp has been good and I would definitely go through them if I bought another one.

My truck was in the shop for a couple of months. Finally, they got it fixed and I got it back. It was a $12,000 repair and I'm sorry AUL lost money on my claim. The issue was they wanted to use these aftermarket injectors which weren't recommended by the manufacturer. They took it apart twice and did it twice with the bad injectors. When AUL was able to authorize the proper parts, that fixed the vehicle. My recommendation would be to use the right parts the first time. They'd save a lot of money on labor.

It took me over a year and 3 shops to find one to even deal with this company because they made it so difficult for both myself and the garage. I was required to pay huge fees just for the work required for diagnosis. $600 then had to be examined by AUL. Then once diagnosis had to wait for inspection the whole time I had no transportation. They agreed to pay for rental car. I paid for 1 week then they called rental company and put it on their acct card. It took a month. I was returned my deposit in the car when I went to turn in the rental. Was told it was taken care of.
After I got my vehicle back I had nothing but problems. The mechanic refused to even come and give me a jump less than a hour after I picked up my vehicle. It wouldn't start when I was returning the rental. All the fluids were low. They said I could bring it in and they would take a look. They were paid in full. Not once was I called or contacted by AUL. So I had no chance in getting anything done to fix the mess. They were paid already. So my car isn't fixed then on top of that...AUL refused to pay the rental vehicle. I even went in to return the rental 3 times and was told it was taken care to....then to my surprise almost all the money I had in my acct was taken to Pay for the rental car because AUL changed their mind I was told.
So I'm almost homeless and a lot of my bills are unpaid because I'm on a fixed income. This was one of the worst things I've been thru. And I borrowed money just to get the car for the first week because AUL wouldn't give me any side answers. I had to even pay cash upfront to get the engine tore down so it could be diagnosed plus more cash for parts they said had to be replace but weren't covered by AUL even tho it was part of the repair. And my vehicle is worse now but I have no way to do a thing with a vehicle I'm afraid to drive and still paying on and broke because of buying new battery paying for the rental. Couldn't pay all my bills...etc!!! Ruined my life and really put me in a bad place that I probably can't even fix. Not once did anyone even reach out to me at all. To even ask if my car was fixed or even to tell me they weren't going to pay for the car. No warning at all.
I paid almost my whole month's income and my vehicle is ruined. I have no options to fix it either. So if I can help one person to not go thru this then it will be worth it. I'm disabled, have no one to help and have no idea how to fix this mess. I couldn't even get groceries. I doubt the holidays will be very happy either since I had the warranty so in case of an emergency I didn't end up in this kind of a situation. From day one AUL has been the worst!!! I had a hard time even getting any garage to deal with them.

He did the best he could and he thought that he took care of the problem. He said he did something with the throttle body, but I don't think that's what the problem was. Our experience with the dealers was pretty good but not with the dealership. I'll never go back to that dealership ever again where I bought the vehicle from. That dealership is owned by Toyota. It's a car lot where they don't wanna sell those cars on the Toyota or GM lot or they have a separate sales lot for them. Compared to the dealership, the Toyota dealers do good work. There are a couple of guys in there that are different. But some of the managers are questionable for what they consider safe.
The dealership we go through now is Toyota here in Rhinelander. The service people have been very helpful with us and took care of an issue that we had previously. They seemed to care about it versus the other place that did not really care. The individual who had done the work on our vehicle is good. I don't mind paying if the work is done right.
The dealer's finance manager was good. We dealt with them before so he was familiar with us. We bought another car from the same sales rep. It went pretty smoothly. He told us they covered everything. And although I don't think what they told us is 100% of what the contract is, that's fine. It's just the sales pitch was angled a little differently. I felt comfortable with the rep for the most part thinking that he had the best interest in mind for us.
The service contract has been pretty good for the most part. But it surprises me how expensive a nut and a bolt can be. And it's kind of astonishing that that part is not covered under the warranty. And sometimes the bolt is like 50 bucks and sometimes it's not. It makes no sense that I can go to the store and I can buy a bolt for $1. That blows my mind because I can buy a part at a car parts shop nearby. It's like three bucks from the dealership and pay maybe a 10th of the price for a part. That aside, I'd tell friends to do AUL especially if they are not sure of the vehicle. Our first claim on our van was more expensive than the warranty.

They replaced transmission under the warranty but with a used transmission and as soon as I picked the car up on a Friday it was shifting hard again. I called the repair shop back because the transmission specialist wouldn't be back til that following Tuesday. When I brought it back that morning it was really bad. AUL and the vendor AUL bought the used transmission from kept arguing about responsibility for the repair. That vendor's insurance company kept requesting the repair shop to just keep flashing the computer until it started shifting better which took nearly 50 days.
When I was told to come get the car, it is still shifting hard. Then I was called and said that I was responsible for the rental in which I was told by the repair shop and an AUL rep that it would be covered until the car was fixed properly. I feel AUL did a horrible job at getting the car fixed properly and following through on making sure it was repaired in a timely manner. Everyone was passing the buck and no one seemed to be concerned about resolving the issue for me. It was 90 day from the initial request to get my car back. And it still isn't fix. I am looking into my legal recourse to get it fixed properly.

AUL has been fine but it hasn't been with the service providers. They finally took care of what they should have in the first place. Two days after I purchased my 2016 Ford Escape with 95-some thousand miles on it, some engine light came on, “Service Now.” I was out of state so I called Honda and they told me to use my extended warranty out of state. I had to line up the service for it. That service department did not fix the problem even though I had to pay it to get my car back. I came back to Missouri where I live, called Honda, and told them what happened. They got my car back in and fixed the problem.
I have another problem with it. If it rains and I have the air conditioner on, the passenger side floorboard floods with water. So, I took it to get fixed on my own. I went to a different shop than Honda. The guy said he cleaned out what he could and would not charge me. Hopefully, I won't have the problem again. I haven't been in the rain and the air conditioner going since then.

The vehicle was old and if something went wrong, I wanted it to be taken care of. It was going fine until AUL Corp declined to pay for something. They said it was because that they went above the vehicle’s value and that they wouldn't do anything else for it. I bought the best service they had which was state program. As far as my knowledge, there were no type of discrepancies so I was under the impression that if something major did go wrong, that it would be taken care of. But in the end, it wasn't.
The dealer was straight up. They were surprised that even after they were told the same thing, and then they were told about section eight of the contract, and that stated there. They were even told, “Well, I guess you didn't read the contract properly.” They were stunned as well by the reason given for not doing it. If the dealership had known about that stipulation, I'm sure that it would have been explained to me. I found them to be really good people. They tried to work with AUL Corp and me on the issue.
Right now there’s a vehicle sitting in my yard that I cannot drive. I would never recommend AUL Corp to anyone unless they went through the whole contract and someone explained it to them instead of just sitting there and taking that contract. Because as far as that goes, if anyone bought a used vehicle that went over the value of the vehicle and something couldn't be fixed, then the warranty is void. It's no good. Why would I buy something like that? And why would I recommend it to anyone? I'm quite sure that the dealership that I bought the vehicle from has expressed their backlash to it as well. They have also said that they are probably going to someone else to try to figure out something else because that also makes them look guilty -- as a reflection. People wouldn't want to deal with them due to that fact.

My experience with AUL Corp was phenomenal. The dealership in Lafayette, Louisiana where I purchased my truck from offered me the extended warranty and I read through it and I really liked the offer. I bought the best extended warranty that they had and I only had to pay 35% upfront. AUL Corp has been very honest and generous. They were very helpful and easy to work with. I'm thinking seriously about extending my warranty which should be up in six or eight months.
I had a transmission issue back in 2019. Then the second issue I had were the drivetrain issue very recently. For the first one, AUL didn’t send any adjusters. For the second time, they sent an adjuster to the shop and he was very thorough and he went through everything. Later on, they called the shop and told them to proceed with the repairs. Then when I was about to pay my deductible, I ran into this taxes thing which was worth more than my co-pay. My last warranty coverage didn’t pay taxes for some reason and AUL had me pay the bill taxes, which I really didn’t understand and I didn’t see it anywhere in the contract. But I had been happy with their service so I felt that I could just let go on something for them.
I've had some coworkers and friends that had extended warranty with some other companies and their experiences with them have been terrifying. They’ve been scammed. With AUL, even when my truck broke down, they came through and kept their promises. That’s why I'm not gonna stop doing business with them. If I have any other vehicles besides my truck, I will surely go with them if it has no warranty from the dealership or the manufacturer.

I've had a few claims with AUL. The very first one that I had was pretty challenging to work with them. They refused to cover the warranty part at first because the mechanic, the Dodge dealership that I took the truck to had sent them a photo and it showed that there was an aftermarket cold air intake on the truck, which wasn't there when I purchased the truck. And they were refusing to replace the turbo, which was completely under warranty because they said that they had an aftermarket part on the truck.
And they know well that they have offered these warranties on used trucks and vehicles. They should know that if they're not willing to offer this warranty on vehicles that may have aftermarket parts. They basically said that they wouldn't honor it. I got myself involved in calling them. The dealership that I had purchased the truck from was kind enough to give them a call as representatives of their product and selling it, and the dealership that I had the truck at, all three of us started to call them and basically complained to them. And after a little while, they finally said that they would cover it. For my second and third claims, however, I had no problems.
I probably won't get a warranty through them again because they were such a pain to work with, and I don't have time for that. I need my truck, and if they're going to complain about stuff like that and drag it out, then I need somebody who's gonna work and be efficient. They need to clarify that if they're not gonna warranty something like that, then they need to go get their hands into putting warranties on brand new cars if that's a thing.

I bought the car from the Handy Toyota here in St. Albans from approximately two months ago. I noticed that when I put the car in drive, the drive light starts blinking and when I called the people that I purchased the car from, which the warranty will be up by June 6th, I explained to them. They brought it in, looked at it and they said that it seemed that I was having some sort of blinking light because of the transmission. I told them I was covered, that I had the warranty insurance and sure enough, they called AUL up. First, AUL denied the claim because they didn’t feel that it was under the warranty.
I asked what they meant and they said they only took care of internal things. I said that it was an internal thing and that I spoke to a gentleman at the facility who said that it was a gray area. It was taken care of anyway, so I was really happy for that. I had other problems too. I just bought the car, but the struts were going as well. Now, that’s probably not under the warranty because it’s an external problem, but my primary concern was the transmission. I took care of the struts out of my own pocket and all in all, I’m fairly happy of the warranty taking care of the problem.
Whatever guidelines AUL goes by though, they should let people know exactly what they won’t cover. In this way, a person like me won’t be surprised. Because the way it was worded to me when I was told about the warranty, I thought I was covered for any mechanical problems such as drivetrain, transmission, or engine. Any dealership that they would do business with, they should know exactly what they’re saying to the people before they purchase the warranty. Still, I would share that information and recommend them that.

To quickly recap, I had purchased a warranty through AUL when I purchased my son’s truck. He soon began experiencing issues with the lifters, and the service department at the dealership determined the issue required an engine replacement. AUL agreed that replacing the motor was the best option, and communicated this to my dealer. I appreciate the service from AUL, as they completely took care of this problem for my son and I. I highly recommend AUL for you and your vehicle as well!

I purchased a used truck for my 16-year old son, and not knowing the history other than a clean CarFax, I purchased a warranty from AUL to be safe. Unfortunately several months later, the lifters began knocking. First, the dealership where I purchased the vehicle reached out to AUL and were told that if there was any sludge in the engine, no repairs would be covered. Fortunately after risking taking the motor apart and having to personally pay for this, no sludge was found. Unfortunately, there were metal shavings in the motor, and the dealership mechanic and GMC both stated a new engine would be necessary.
AUL refused these recommendations, and only chose to pay for the lifters. I have no idea at this stage if this will be a reliable vehicle for my teenage son, as AUL chose what to do what was best for their bottom line, rather than pay for the coverage I purchased in good faith. If you purchase a used vehicle, I can not recommend AUL. They will disregard factory and mechanic recommendations, and do the bare minimum in repairing your vehicle.

Mr Travis, you are very welcome and we are sorry to hear that this was not communicated to you. We definitely understand your frustration. I do see there is a note that the service writer we were originally dealing with no longer works there. Maybe something got lost in the shuffle. I will have our adjuster reach out to them as well.

My warranty department said that it is burning the appropriate amount of oil and that they will not cover the total repair. The repair needed was to change the pistons and rings. The warranty department would not cover this repair due to them saying the oil was burning appropriately.
The repair shop, due to the denial of the claim, changed out the timing chain and the actuators, and stated that I would have to bring my car in every month to make sure that the oil didn't dip below where it should be, at my expense. Upon exiting the dealership, it took me a minute to process the fact that I have paid into this warranty and am stuck with my vehicle never being fully repaired. I have never in all the years I have owned vehicles, ever had a problem like this, where the two companies disagreed and left me stuck like this.
The one time it did happen, the Attorney General allowed me to use the Lemon Law which was very appropriate at that time, with that vehicle. I really feel that I was taken this time also. The timing chain and actuators were just changed a month and a half before this incident. I'm just trying to understand why that repair was allowed to go through twice and I am still having an issue with my engine but the actual repair needed, won't be approved.

I just put down the $100 deductible and it got repaired.

When I bought a 2003 Dodge two years ago, it had a diesel engine in it and I said that I was gonna buy a service contract just in case I needed it. The rep was no hard sell. He said, “Here it is. Take it or leave it,” which is the way it should be. When he presented the contract, he said, “This is an option for you.” I liked the option and said I'd take it. I've filed a claim for the water pump and the rear transmission mount. The shop called AUL and told them what the problem was. The guy then asked me if that was it. I said yeah. If you were worried about repairs or if you want someone to pay your repairs, then buy a service contract from AUL.

AUL Corp covers my whole truck from front to back. And every time I've called them, they always took care of me. They’re the best extended coverage there is because they don’t hassle you about getting anything fixed. You call them, you say you got a problem with your vehicle, and even if they have to send an adjuster to take it out, they cover it. It doesn’t matter what it is.
I tried AUL once back in around 2015. I had the Altima and heard about them. I’ve heard of a few others and heard people have complaints. I read up on AUL and looked up who’s who. Most of the time, people are gonna tell the truth on the internet when it comes to certain things. If it’s good, they’ll say it’s good and they give it a good rating, and if it’s not, then they’ll say that it's a scam. Everybody said that AUL was pretty decent and I tried them.
After my first claim, I knew I was instantly hooked. When I called them and told them I had something going on with my engine, they sent an adjuster out. They figured the issue out with the shop and it was the timing chains and the guides in the car. That was almost a $1,500 job, but they didn’t have a problem covering it. They took care of me at that certain time and I really appreciate it because that was the only car I had at the time. You pay a little price for AUL, but in the long run, it’s worth it. I had more things happen than what money I put in and they still didn’t have a problem. You can’t beat a warranty like that. My warranty would be ending at the end of this year and I’m going to purchase them again.

I purchased the AUL extended warranty for $3,000.00 when I purchased a used 2012 Ford F-150 in July of 2017. I wanted to ensure my powertrain was covered since it was an older vehicle. I have been taking care of all preventative and routine maintenance, along with other corrective measures to keep the truck running. I just filed my first claim in January 2020 for an oil leak I had a few days prior on a holiday (MLK). Per the contract, I am allowed to take emergency corrective measures and report the claim after. I paid $817.00 to replace my oil sensor plug and oil pan gasket. I submitted the claim only to be told I would receive approximately $57 after the $100 deductible.
The AUL agent I spoke with was condescending and told me I paid 10 times more than the parts original amount, and $270 per service hour. Therefore, I would only be reimbursed a smaller amount. Remind you, I didn't get AUL involved before I authorized the maintenance since it was an "emergency on a holiday." This was a local Firestone auto shop, which was close enough for me to get my truck to without doing further damage to the engine. I'm not in the automotive industry, so I was not aware I was being charged 10 times what AUL claims I should have paid.
I am extremely frustrated with AUL. All they have done is read the fine print of the contract to me just to find another reason not to pay. I am a 15-year combat veteran, not a lawyer. All I want to do is get my truck fixed and at least have a decent amount covered by the insurance company that I paid to help me in these circumstances.

Mr Cole,
Thank you for taking the time to bring your concerns to our attention. I believe there has been a break down in communication and we apologize for that. Our system shows we have the authorization for the oil pressure switch and oil pan gasket pending. The total reimbursement for those repairs is $575 after your deductible. We do show that Firestone over charged for the parts and labor on the repairs which is why the totals are off. Please give us a call to review when you can and ask for Ryan.

I never knew when you have a warranty and whatever part needs to be replaced if they have to replace the nuts and bolts you have to pay extra for them including labor to put them in. To me this is extremely unacceptable and petty. If you have to have a part replaced the whole thing should be in the price. Or say an 02 sensor that's inside a part that needs to be replaced, they won't cover putting a new sensor in. Still extremely unacceptable and petty. So read your extended warranty before you buy one because they aren't always the same. Read everything including the fine print and make sure to ask questions and you clearly understand what you are getting or aren't getting. Trust me it happens.

Ms Smith,
Thank you for reaching out to AUL with your concerns. Reviewing the claim on your vehicle for the fuel injector we do not show that it requires any nuts or bolts to be replaced. Please give us a call to review if you have any other questions or concerns.

And so if they broke it, then I would have to pay for it. But my AUL wouldn't cover it. So when I found that out, I discontinued the service. But when I bought a car off the dealership, I got AUL again and I was satisfied with the service contract this time around. When we purchased our BMW vehicle, we wanted to get an extended warranty. AUL Corp was what was offered to us and we took it. However last year, we were stranded on a highway for about two hours on our way to a Father’s Day event with family members. We didn't get to go to that. What happened was the timing belt guides broke inside the engine, sucked the metal up into the oil pump, and wound up seizing up the engine. I was under the impression that we were gonna get a new engine. It took almost a month before I got my car back because they searched around the nation for an engine that they wanted that had 65,000 miles on it. They found one and BMW went through a 128-point inspection. Within 24 hours after we got the vehicle back, the check engine light came on and they had to do something else to the engine and I gotta put $2,000 more into it.
The dealer said they did let AUL Corp know about it and then they said they weren’t gonna put any more money into it. They said they were gonna put a maximum of $13,000, which is quite a bit, but it’s a BMW and I guess that’s just what it cost. So, they took it right to the limit of almost $13,000 through AUL. And then when we got it back, they said that they were not gonna cover it and I had to pay for it. Also, AUL Corp said that they’d work out what I had to do to get reimbursed for my towing expenses, but they made it difficult for me. I had to do a lot of legwork to do that and I wound up just eating it. That was almost $200 to tow it to my house. So far, they handled everything. It wasn’t to my satisfaction, but it all got taken care of. AUL will cover up to 12,000 miles, 12 months for 12,000 miles. And that’s as far as it’s going now. Lastly, they never communicated with me. It was strictly through the dealer. So, I would like to see some communication.

Nobody wait for a part to fail totally before replacing it so of what use is this extended warranty for which I am paying every month to me. If the fan belt fails while the car is in motion it will cause extensive damage to the engine and I am pretty sure AUL will argue that it failed because I didn’t replace it when it was due for replacement. So my question again is: of what use is this warranty to me?

Charles, thanks for your comments. I was able to find you in our system and look at your contract. We called up AUL with the policy number and they said that the policy wasn’t on file. So, the work had to get started later on in the day. We just called back, gave the policy number and it popped up just fine. I filed a claim and AUL worked with the dealer. I had a very long trip right after I got the car, so I figured with 150,000 miles, there had to be something. So, immediately, when I got to the end of my trip, I took it into the dealership to get general maintenance done and to have a look over, and they happened to catch some ball joints and control arms. It has been very smooth. Everything got covered right up to the limit of the coverage and the work was very professional.
There was a part that I needed that wasn’t covered by the policy that I had. It was part of the four-wheel drive system, but it was a sensor inside of a motor. I got a bumper-to-bumper coverage from AUL but I'm gonna cancel it because they're making me return the vehicle to only one dealership to get work done. This is outrageous. It's a 20-minute drive from my house. There's a dealership that's close by that they will not let me go to.

If taking your vehicle to the dealership where you purchased is to much of an inconvenience, you are welcomed to take your vehicle to any licensed repair shop of your choice. We only ask that the repair shop call with a diagnosis and estimate before any repairs are made.
Thank You

I felt like getting a service contract for my vehicle was a good idea, and since AUL was offered at the dealership, I went with it. The salesperson was cool and they weren't overly pushy. I got coverage for the engine and transmission, as well as smaller things. It's not 100% bumper-to-bumper but they've fixed everything I needed fixed on the vehicle. I've had to contact them a couple of times to get my vehicle towed, then whenever I take my vehicle to the dealership, the dealership calls AUL, making sure it's covered under the service contract. And it has been good for me so far.

Paid $4500 for the extended warranty. Almost year later my transmission went out, and they won’t even cover half the bill. So now I’m stuck with the $4500 upfront bill and more than half the repair bill. Would not recommend AUL!!

Hi Casey, thanks for your comments. I was able to look up your contract and claim in our system. Your particular contract has component-specific limits of liability - meaning, it has a maximum amount that it will pay out depending on the component that failed. In your case, AUL paid everything that we could toward the repairs needed. I'm sorry we could not help more; however, we did fully honor the terms of the contract.

Purchased a used 2008 Ford F-150 with 114,500 miles in September of 2018 alongside a powertrain service contract by AUL for $2100. Engine made unusual noises and tried to stall out on me at low rpm (500-600rpm indicated on tach) after a short towing trip after owning for 8 months and 4000 miles, drove(here is the key to this whole thing right here) to dealership to diagnose. At the time no overheating warnings or check engine codes were showing. Dealership did some tests that involved doing some more towing and backing up with a 4000lb trailer and determined that I had cam phaser isuses. Engine was partially disassembled and it was found that I had scoring on the cam caps and cam journals.
After a very long wait (1 week) AUL finally decided to send out an inspector. Inspector agreed with the dealership that my motor did in fact need to be replaced, a nearly $8000 repair bill for a reman motor or around $6000 for a like and kind used replacement. Instead of authorizing either of those options, they decided that because the truck was operated after damages were suspected that they would only cover $2100 of a motor replacement. The extent of the operation was a .5 mile trip to the dealership. No repairs to my current motor were authorized. After arguing with a representative for around 30 minutes, I gave up on getting any further with them. I understand what this company is now, they'll happily take your money at sale day but when you've crossed your t's and dotted your i's with maintenance and service they will still find a way with petty details to run away with your hard earned cash at the end of the day.
Maybe if I had been a little more diligent with a tow to the dealership I could have won the lottery with this one, you can do 99% of everything right and still get left with a giant bill in the end. Even at a discount of the total price of my plan a $4000 used motor with an unknown history is still hard to swallow, $6000 is just eye watering. So, no thanks for the help AUL, you won't see another penny from me nor any glowing recommendations to anyone I know in the future.

Jeff, thanks for your comments. I'm sorry we were not able to help more with your repairs; however, we do believe it is appropriate according to the engine damage. No one disputes that the engine needs to be replaced, but our position is that the repairs that we authorized would have been sufficient to correct the problem had it been addressed sooner. The amount of scoring and subsequent damage is consistent with continued operation of the vehicle after failure, and the contract does not allow us to cover that.

The sales rep of AUL, Eric, was fantastic. When I bought the truck, it was about 35 sales price so I put $25,000 down, and I got the best extended warranty policy one could get, but I still also had the certified warranty. The first week of owning my truck, the heated seats and the air conditioned seats didn’t work and Eric did a pretty good job in getting that taken care of in a timely manner. He does a really good job of keeping track and wanting to know what was going on.
But I had a disagreement with the man at the back of their office. I told him that the two front seats needed to be replaced and that just replacing the motors wouldn’t be efficient because I’ve ran into the same situation before with these seats, and the seats aren’t working again. I had to call Eric and he said to give it a couple days, and they literally just fixed them and the air conditioner, and maybe that had something to do with it. They’re still not working, but I don’t even wanna bother with it anymore. I can’t afford to have it sitting at GMC for another two and a half weeks.
It’s fine that they used the policy that I paid all that money for, but it was still underneath the dealership warranty. It was the exclusive 90 days, 75,000 miles. If anything goes wrong with the truck, all I do is bring it out there. But they still billed the insurance company that I paid for. So, it’s not like they lost any money on the transaction. But I’ve been happy with everything upfront, with Eric and the way he’s trying to take care of me.

Dustin, thanks for your comments; however, I don't think your frustrations are with AUL. Everything we were asked to repair have been authorized and paid for. I would suggest trying to talk to your repair shop once more. Thanks.

I wanted to keep my car covered and the service contract with AUL Corp was fair. I was also quite comfortable working with their representative. Things were handled in a timely manner. But this is the first time I had an issue with a contract. I filed a claim for an engine repair and I don’t understand why I was paying anything out of pocket for something that was supposed to have been covered under warranty. The oil parts weren’t covered in the part because the part consisted of many parts. That aside, they handled it pretty well.

Cecilia, thanks for your review. I had a chance to look at your claim, and I can understand your confusion on paying out of pocket for some parts. While we did cover the bulk of the repair, it seems that some of the components that needed to be repaired were simply not covered by your contract--thus, the out of pocket expenses. I am happy we were able to get you back on the road, though! Take care.

AUL Corp was offered at the dealership and I got the full package which covered mechanical and electrical. The package itself is good but the amount that it's covered is not so much. I wish they would cover more of the parts and actual GM parts or the dealer parts instead of the aftermarket parts.

Chelson, thanks for your comments. While we do authorize manufacturer parts for the vast majority of repairs that we handle, it is sometimes necessary to go with a more cost-effective option. In these cases, we explore our options which sometimes lead us to aftermarket parts; however, you can be assured that your contract will stand behind these parts as long as it is in force.

In the past, I've had problems with vehicles and they weren't covered under warranty. My father used to work for General Motors and we always got extended warranties on a new car. So when I had an opportunity to get one, I got one on a used one. The salesperson at Lou Fusz showed me how much the AUL warranty cost and how I’d really lose a good deal. So she pretty much didn’t have to sell me. I already knew I was gonna get it if it was offered because it just made sense. It covers my Buick GMC up to 200 and something thousand miles and I've used it once. The dealer that did the repair just told me to fax in a copy of my oil changes to a fax number and address them with “Attention: Mark.” The people at the dealer's were very professional.

I purchased a nice used car and I thought it would be worth it to get an extended warranty for it. I heard that AUL Corp was extremely easy to deal with and very understandable of the situation. They also had a very good price. I looked at other extended warranty providers to make sure that AUL was gonna be the right one and I had a great experience with the rep who sold me the warranty. I happily took their coverage thinking that it would work. Unfortunately, I was proven wrong and I was not happy with my first experience.
I had the vehicle in Florida and I brought it to Toyota of North Miami Beach. When I called prior, the guy at AUL said that I could take the vehicle in then the repair shop would call them and that’d be fine. During the process, Toyota took care of the claim for me. AUL came down to check the vehicle out at Toyota and they refused to cover any of the repairs. The bump itself was preexisting and I wasn’t even trying to get it fixed. It was the opening and Toyota showed them that the motor is going on its own. It was clear from a couple of mechanics that a prior existing nudge on one of my passenger doors has nothing to do with a motor problem in the power sliding doors. The Toyota person was trying to show the fellow that he was making a mistake, but he was not relenting.
I got power doors specifically so it’d be easier with my kids. But I had the car for three weeks and driven it down 20 hours from Maryland to Florida, then I found out about the part that was not working. The vehicle has been around for a few years and it makes sense that sometimes things would go. But that's what AUL Corp was supposed to cover. The extended warranty was a lot of extra money on the purchase of the car and to have my claim go like that is really not okay. I was told that either I pay the $1400 or AUL would cover it, and that was all they could pay. But I don’t have the money to fix the car and I'd appreciate if AUL could relook at the claim for me.

Malkiel, thanks for your comments; although I'm sorry you had a bad experience. Would you provide your contract number, so I can look into your claim?

I purchased a used vehicle and I thought that it would be wise if I put an extended warranty on it. The car dealer selected AUL Corp as the service contract provider and I was led to believe that my coverage was bumper-to-bumper, not anything cosmetic, but like mechanical and that sort of stuff. I had an emergency when I went to Florida. My brother-in-law passed away. I had to go get his son out of the hospital, and we were rushing to the funeral. That time, my right front wheel bearing seized.
In my highway-charged emotional state, I completely forgot that I had an AUL Corp service contract. I called my auto club, had my car towed to the closest place, and had the issue repaired. I paid for it with my credit card. About a month later though, I remembered that I have a service contract with AUL Corp. I called them and at first, there was a snafu on the paperwork. Some paperwork on the dealer's side, Durango Motors, were not complete. Durango Motors took care of that. They were awesome.
The girl from AUL Corp that I initially spoke to told me that since my situation was an emergency, they could write the whole thing as an unauthorized repair due to an emergency. She told me that they would send me an email with more information, and they did. They then asked me to provide a copy of the bill. I scanned the bill and sent it through email. However, they never got back to me. They didn't even acknowledge that they got my email. I sent them another email asking them to tell me if they have received the copy of my bill since we live in the middle of nowhere and our internet is on satellite. Sometimes, it tells me that the email has been sent, but it actually hasn't. I still didn't get a response. A month later I got a check in the mail. It was 160 bucks. Well, my bill was close to $700. That didn't seem fair to me.
Also, I’ve since sold the vehicle and I’ve been trying to contact them to see if I could get a refund on what was left of the policy since I didn't have a car for a year. I have called and I have spoken to someone three different times. I was told that they'd look into that and then get back to me in a day or so. But then I’ve never gotten a callback or an email. That irritates me. If I'm not entitled to a refund, I’ll deal with that. But to completely ignore me? I was in customer service and food service for 35 years. I’ll blow somebody up who is doing an awesome job. AUL could have gotten back to me 30 minutes later or two days later and go, “I’m sorry. I haven’t contacted you. I was trying to find out the answer to this." Right now, I'm somewhat dissatisfied with AUL Corp. For the way things turned out and being ignored, I probably paid more than I should have.

I acquired a service contract for my vehicle with AUL due to the age of the vehicle. I filed a claim when the car had a bad transmission, but the experience was awful and the situation was uncomfortable for myself. It was horrible dealing with El Dorado Chevrolet in McKinney, the dealership that sold me the contract. The dealer-financier lied to me, then he didn’t turn the paperwork in on time and wouldn’t return my calls. That interaction could have been improved by letting me know and returning my calls. Since we got everything worked out, though, the claim went well. It was just a matter of getting things set up.
It was worthwhile having a service contract with AUL. But you have to make sure that the paperwork has been submitted. When you buy a car from a dealership, you assume that they are gonna do their end of the purchase. But when I filed a claim, the dealership hadn’t submitted the paperwork yet. My satisfaction with the service contract that I received from AUL was medium.

They denied my claims and refuse to answer questions. I purchased a used car and the estate coverage contract in mid November. Since then my car is burning through oil. 6 quarts in 1000 miles. Took it to my dealership which sent me to Audi because they weren't equipped to perform an oil consumption test and detected no visible leaks. At this time service agent informed me that I'd just pay the $100 deductible and swing back through when the oil light comes back on or after 750 miles.
Took the car to the Audi service which informed me the PCV valve is aftermarket and must be an original one to perform the test. Due to it not being a failing part, (and he informed me the PCV valve could be responsible for the excessive oil consumption) they denied coverage. I went back and forth with no resolution from my dealer or AUL. The PCV valve is $355.
It's been 5 days now and after getting the runaround from all involved, AUL has also denied to cover the oil consumption test. Which I'm now informed is $160 to start and $160 to inspect after the miles/oil light come on. I've asked for invoices and pricing the entire time while being assured that it would all sort itself when they file claims. I was told I would possibly have to cover the PCV valve myself, so I attempted to communicate with the dealership to come to a fair resolution. (Split the part? Whatever they would agree to. None of that was even an option and they're denying any wrong doing.)
So a "$100" diagnostic is now $675 to me out of pocket and no one is taking responsibility. I was sold this policy by the finance representative at the dealership. I was told every single thing was covered. My dealership is saying AUL isn't cooperating. My sales rep has admitted to knowing nothing about the policies. Their service manager can't give me answers. I also asked if someone could confirm that the PCV valve would not affect coverage when it is complete and we find out where the car is losing oil. Everyone at my dealership has said it’s in their interest to deny claims and that’s ‘how these things work.’
I called AUL which said there were notes of an upcoming tests but that they didn't approve any service on my car. Upon asking if that affects future repairs I did not get any answers either. Today I asked again why neither service was covered and I was given yet another reason, the PCV valve apparently isn't covered because it's emissions related and I wasn't given a real answer about the oil consumption test. Everyone I've spoken to at the dealership is telling me that AUL isn't cooperating and they just can't do anything about it. I paid $4200 for my policy and am pretty sure they will find any way to wiggle out of being responsible for claims.

Good morning, Tatiana. I would be more than happy to review Your claim to see if there was a breakdown in our procedures. Would you please forward your contract number or VIN to me? Thanks.

I bought a 2009 Ford F150 in January. I purchased a service contract from AUL from the vehicle at the suggestion of my finance manager. I agreed, thinking it was a smart move considering the age and miles on the vehicle. A Week or so ago, the truck started running rough, and then the check engine light came on, so I brought it to the dealer, to file a claim for whatever repair might be needed. Late last week, I was notified that an AUL inspector was to look at my repairs, seems there were some after market parts used in a previous repair (I had no knowledge of any previous repairs before I bought the vehicle).
Yesterday, I was notified that my claim had been denied, citing excessive sludge in the engine (valvetrain components I do believe), that is what I was told briefly. The repairs are estimated to me at least $3300. The sales team and finance people at my dealership are contacting reps from your company and CNA. In my view, I have done nothing to cause any of these needed repairs, I have barely had the vehicle a few months, put very few miles on it. I just want to understand all this, and find a resolution that doesn't involve me shelling out thousands just to have a working vehicle.

Good morning, Kracker (AKA Eddie). I was able to find your contract in our system, and I see that you have a component-specific contract – meaning a component has to be listed on the contract to be eligible for coverage. However, if you don't have the number for your towing services, you can't get in contact with AUL Corp. on the weekend or after 5:00. Also, with the rental car, I had to pay upfront but I didn't get reimbursed. I was not fully satisfied with everything but it’s alright. I would tell others to check out AUL Corp.

Good afternoon, Angela, and thank you for your comments. I was able to look up your claim information, and it looks like we were waiting for the rental invoice in order to reimburse that. If you would like to submit that, we would be more than happy to reimburse you!

A AUL warranty was purchased with a 2013 Cadillac SRX SUV. The vehicle was taken to the dealer from whom the car was purchased due to a dim headlight. The passenger side headlight was lit, but was dimmer than the driver side. The dealer's root-cause analysis was an issue with the wiring and required replacement. AUL denied the claim because it was an 'illumination' problem. The bulb wasn't the problem - it was the wiring. When the clever adjuster told me '..well the wiring is only there because of the bulb...' I hung up the phone - wasting anymore breath on him was going to do no good. I even offered to send him a picture of the bulb burning if he wanted - he declined. Had the dealer fix the problem at my expense and guess what - using the same bulb that was in the vehicle originally works fine - it wasn't the bulb it was the wiring. Thanks for all of your help AUL - please rush my refund.

I’m sorry that you are dissatisfied with the outcome of your claim. After taking a second look at the claim I agree with your assessment that we should have covered this claim. We try to adjudicate all claims according to the contract, but in this case, I think we took a little too hard of a line. We apologize for the error and in an effort to rectify the situation we ask that you please submit a copy of your receipt to us and we will reimburse you for the charges incurred.

It’s literally been weeks since the shop originally had the car. Every day that I call to ask about the car they say that the part they ordered is defective because it fails their test drive. Keep in mind they’ve used this excuse 3 out of the 6 times I’ve called. The other times the “explanation” was that the piece they ordered wouldn’t show up on time for the mechanics to get to it. In short I believe they’re just trying to run up the man hours and parts without actually getting any results. I’d like to use your services on another shop that’ll actually fix my car.

Good morning, Michael. I would be happy to look into this situation for you. Would you please send me your contract number or VIN, so I can find your claim in our system? Thanks.

When I bought a car from Colonial Nissan, they said that we needed a warranty. AUL Corp is the company that they use so we bought one from them. The service contract was supposed to be bumper-to-bumper, but apparently, it is not. It only includes certain parts and certain conditions. There were incidents with my engine that don't even exist anymore. One of my best friends is a mechanic and everything that the AUL guys told me was shot down by not only my mechanic but three other guys that my friend knows because he researched to make sure that he was correct. Also, their reps were horrible. They were rude and obnoxious. I am not happy at all.
I called AUL and I was flipping out. I threatened to call my attorney and I threatened to drive my car through their front window. They were telling me that there was carbon buildup on my engine from a smudge of grease from the mechanic's glove. But there is no such thing as carbon buildup in cars anymore. It doesn't happen anymore. I got the pictures and I got research but AUL didn't wanna pay for it. Colonial Nissan got them to agree to what they wanted to do and they eventually got my car fixed. It took a month though that I didn't have my car but i was given a rental car. Colonial Nissan was good and they went above and beyond to get everything covered but AUL was horrible. I would never deal with them again.

Felisa, thanks for your comments. I was able to review your claim, and I see that your own mechanic sent us a picture of the carbon buildup on your piston. That is the reason your car was having problems with oil consumption for the past several months, and that is why we initially denied the claim. If you look at your contract, that is an excluded condition. I'm sorry you felt like you were buying a bumper-to-bumper contract. AUL does not offer bumper-to-bumper contracts (no one does), and none of our sales materials imply that we do.
I see that, as you stated, we did cover the repair, but we covered it as a courtesy--not because it should have been a covered repair; again, it was an excluded condition. Every vehicle service contract or warranty has restrictions or exclusions, and we encourage everyone to understand those when they purchase one of our products. We try to be as transparent as possible with our contract language; that's why NONE of our contracts contain "fine print;" in fact, our exclusions section is in bold print.
You still have an active contract, and we will still happily honor the terms of the contract until it expires. And, by the way, thanks for not following through on your threat to drive your car through our front window! We really appreciate it!

AUL Corp was the only one that was submitted to us from that dealer and I'm satisfied with our contract. The interaction we had with the rep who sold us the service contract was satisfactory. When our vehicle's transmission went bad, we took it to the dealership and then we ended up having to go back. Now, it's making another noise. The repairs took weeks, but the people at AUL Corp got back to me quickly when it came down to handling the situation. They took care of me and handled my situation professionally. I'm satisfied with AUL Corp and the cost of their service was good. I just wish I had a longer warranty, either more miles or more years on it. But other than that, I'm extremely happy that I got the extended warranty. If I didn't have it, I would have been screwed right now. So, I'm very thankful for what they have done.

He never sent me a contract of what was covered and what was not covered, until after my car was in there. Misleading customers is totally wrong because to replace the part that he told me was covered was $1,500. I was very upset and I reported the guy to the supervisor.

We were buying a used car and we wanted to be safe, so we got a service contract for it. We got one from AUL and we also got one for my fiancé’s truck. The truck had some issues and the contract came in handy. AUL came out and looked at the truck while it was at the shop and they told us what they would and wouldn't cover. The repair was very expensive and even if the service contract covered part of it, what we paid was still very expensive. But service contract paid for itself and so I was okay with it. AUL is a good idea for a used vehicle.

I retired from the car business after 30 years, and I know a service contract for my vehicle is important. AUL's contract has been good. Plus, my interactions with their rep were fine -- he was a gentleman. When the car's engine went out, AUL took care of it with no problems and I was very happy. I picked my car up and that afternoon the power window went out. I brought it back to the same place that put the engine in and they said they would contact AUL. I have a copy of my policy and it showed that the window was covered. AUL refused the claim and said they won’t spend any more money on the car. That has turned me very sour against AUL. I paid $318 for the window, but all I should’ve paid is the $100 deductible.

I was also told that if we didn't use the warranty you could get a refund. LOL. What a joke, for 2 1/2 months and no claims they are going to prorate it at 91% with a 50 dollar charge. Just so sad that you can't trust anyone, whether it be the dealer (Cleveland, TN Ford), the salesman, the finance manager, or the warranty companies to tell you the truth.

Good afternoon, Rebecca. I would like to have the chance to look into your claim; can you send me your contract number or last 8 of your VIN? This is the first warranty that I’ve used and it was a great experience. I was having issues with the drive shaft in my car and the U-joint. My car was vibrating, so I needed that repaired. I called AUL and asked what the process was. They said I needed to find a place to get my car fixed and that once I got an estimate, the company would reach out to them. I’ve had many used vehicles and had extended warranties on all of them but I never had to use them. Then I purchased a used vehicle that didn't have a warranty. I purchased a service contract so just in case it broke, we’d be secure. The car dealership recommended AUL Corp so we went with them. AUL has done wonders because my truck broke down numerous times. Within the first nine days that I had the truck, it started giving me trouble. It gave me trouble the entire time I had it up until the last claim that I made, and I got another engine put in. At those multiple times, they paid to get my truck fixed. AUL was the first one I had to use and I was really worried about how it was gonna go and what I was gonna have to do. But the whole process for the claim was smooth as butter. It was simple as making a phone call and saying, “Hey, my truck broke.” And they were like, “We got you.”
The only thing that was a little bit frustrating with the same problem that kept happening, the mechanics that were fixing it were saying it needed a new engine and that the problem was going to keep recurring if they did not replace the engine. But AUL kept trying to take the less expensive route, which was understandable. They were already in the hole on this contract for sure and they probably would have saved themselves 8 grand if they would have just replaced the engine the first time when the mechanic said, “This motor is shot.” I think they should have trusted the mechanic more. Nevertheless, it’s been running great since they put the new engine in it. AUL never gave me a problem about it and they fixed the truck every time. I paid 2,000 for the service contract, and they probably did 15 grand with the work on my truck. It was definitely cost-effective.

Eric, thanks for the kind words, and you are correct, "We got you!"

I have AUL for my 2011 Kia Optima. I experienced a problem with the engine. I took the car to the closest repair shop. They determined I needed an engine. The shop contacted AUL for someone to come out and look at the car. The adjuster determined it was the engine. The adjuster didn't look into if there were recalls for the engine which Kia covers. They just paid the shop. The shop has had the car forever. I could never get the car because the shop was either closed or the car wasn't finished. I've gone back and forth with the shop. I became obvious the guy doesn't know what to do because of the length of time it had taken. The shop ended up dropping my car off at the Kia dealership. Kia thought he owned the car. They inspected the car and found it needs a lot of work. The shop messed up.
The Kia dealership asked me why didn't the AUL inspector check the system to see if there were any recalls. He would've seen the car had an engine recall and Kia would've fixed it for free without dealing with any other shop. To fix the car correctly, it's $3900. AUL wants me to take the car back to who messed it up. The shop is telling AUL they will fix it, but not responding to me. Why would AUL want a shop that messed up the car to get the car back? This has gone on for way too long. I asked AUL why they won't take responsibility for half of the damage since they were neglect in finding out about the recall. They want me to either pay the dealership the $3900 or take the car back to the shop that messed it up.

Good afternoon, Audra. Thanks for reaching out and giving us a chance to look into your claim. The engine recall that your shop is referring to was issued in March, 2017—more than a month after your engine claim was started (1/31/2017). Checking recalls and TSBs is standard operating procedure for our adjusters, so I was initially surprised to read that we might have missed that. Unfortunately, the failures that are affecting your vehicle today are not eligible for coverage per the terms of your contract. We have been happy to cover over $8,000 in claims for you so far, and we will be here to cover any eligible components for you if you need us down the road.

I pressed on the brakes fast and everybody was scared in the car. I got the car down to the bottom of the corner and left the car right there with my family in it to call road assistance. There wasn't a warranty on the vehicle when we were gonna buy it so we put a service contract on it in case we had issues with it after purchase. The AUL Corp rep who sold us the contract walked us through and told us what the price would be and the terms. He said that we had a deductible of $100 and said that as long as it was anything done by a certified technician, that it would be covered. We walked out with that knowledge and that makes sense.
We ran into an issue where my wife's engine needed to be replaced about five months after we purchased her vehicle. My wife has a Prius, so we took it to a Toyota dealership to get it fixed and we came back with pretty much either $2,000 or $1,000 to pay because AUL would only pay so much upfront. I had to call and get with a supervisor to get it lower to the correct amount. And I still ended up having to pay about $500, which was half of what the service contract was. It was crazy compared to another extended warranty I've had on another vehicle before.
Also, we had one issue where the dealership was trying to get in touch with AUL to get the estimate put through and trying to get some paperwork back from them. He couldn't sit on hold because he's got other customers to deal with at the dealership. And I had gotten AUL on the phone and they wouldn't tell me anything. At the same time I had AUL on the phone, I also have gotten the dealer on the phone and they refused to talk to the dealer through my phone over my wife's phone. They demanded that the dealer call through his phone, even though he didn't have the time. It was crazy because he couldn't sit on the phone for 45 minutes and wait. I tried to be the intermediary and they refused to help me out in any way whatsoever.

Michael, I'm sorry you weren't satisfied with the service we provided. I did review your claim, and I see the situation you are referring to. It looks like your shop wanted to mark up the part that we sourced for the repair, and that is not something we typically cover. We did, however, work with them to offer them some markup--just not as much as they were asking. They were also trying to pass on the diagnosis cost to you, but that is something we cover when you have a covered repair. I see that we contacted your shop and made sure we covered the diagnosis, so you would not have to come out of pocket for the repairs. I'm sorry we were not able to do more for you; however, I do believe we went above and beyond what the contract requires us to do for this claim. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

As a general rule, I don't purchase warranties because of my firm belief that if a company can make money by selling a warranty, I can save money by not buying one. I've been burned by an extended warranty before and vowed never to buy another one, but the selling dealer assured me that AUL was different. It was 9:00pm, I was exhausted and I wavered and purchased the policy. The next day, I looked into cancellation and saw that I had to go through the selling dealer and I was not in the mood for a high pressure situation, so I just let it ride.
Several weeks after purchasing the vehicle, I discovered that the horn and the heater didn't work. I took the vehicle to have it serviced and after paying my $250 deductible, AUL paid $60.00 for the heater repair. The claim for the horn was denied because it was due to a failed clock spring which they considered normal wear and tear. I'm concerned that almost any breakdown could be considered wear and tear so I'm back at the place where I'm considering cancelling my warranty to put some cash back in my pocket so that I can pay for repairs. So, bottom line, while AUL did cover a small portion of one repair, I did not find it to be the hero riding in on a white horse that the selling dealer promised it to be. I'm decidedly lukewarm on the warranty and feeling a little foolish for purchasing it.

I apologize that you are dissatisfied with the outcome of your claim. Your contract is parts specific and unfortunately the components that were not covered on your recent claim are not listed for coverage under your policy. AUL is bound by the terms of the contract. My mechanic provided all the oil change and service records to AUL. AUL asked for the two oil changes I had completed prior to using this mechanic. I quickly got them that info. Before receiving my full oil change record they denied my mechanic’s request, claiming the engine failure was due to carbon build up.
My mechanic argued the case stating there is no way they can claim this failure is due to carbon build up because the chamber is not building enough pressure. The AUL adjuster would not listen and they had made up their mind that this was the issue. My mechanic apologized to me that he could not logically reason with this attendant who appeared to have made up their mind. He stated there are many better companies than this for warranties. Bought the most expensive warranty contract for my car known as the Estate. Dealer swore by this plan that it will cover almost everything. The plan costs me $4500 freaking dollars! So the issue started when I had a CV joint show signs of wear on my drive shaft. It lost its outer boot and grease was flinging everywhere. I was so glad this was found early before complete failure of my drive shaft. At the moment and time of my claim, the drive shaft is still very functional.
However, this so called rip-off of a plan says it covers the drive shaft, but the small print states it doesn't cover any mechanical failure due to a CV issue. Even though you can't just order the CV joint alone on a drive shaft. It comes as one unit. What else could fail on the drive shaft other than the joints. I guess if you drive your car off a cliff and crack your shaft in half then it may be covered, or probably not. This company is the worst and have figured out a way to scam people out of their money. I will be sure to spread the word about this rip off to my peers for I have a few friends who sells cars.

The dealer’s finance manager that sold me the service contract was super accessible, knowledgeable and helpful. But I have some mixed emotions about the plan.
My car has a virtual transmission, which throughout the years has not been perfected, so there are a lot of issues with them. Basically, you lose your power on your car, so your car drops down to about 55, 60 miles at the most on the freeway. But the issue was when they took the car in. They looked it over like they always do with the vehicle and I had some front-end work I needed done, the suspension, so I needed the struts and the mounts changed. Everybody knows that when you do struts, you do both of them. So the one that was really bad and that failed got replaced, and they went through the negotiation of the price. But the other one that was bad wasn’t bad enough for them as they needed it to be leaking or completely failed.
The claims adjuster came out twice to take a look at it, yet the people at the shop didn’t wanna do it. They said they would do it if it failed completely. So I was faced with changing one strut and then waiting until the other one fails before we do that one. Now, we have two uneven struts. It’s not so much with the money, although that’s definitely an issue. But that kind of thinking kinda disappointed me and deterred me. It gave me a sour taste on it. I wish AUL has been a little more logical about it.

Kevin, thanks for your comments. I did have a chance to review your claim, and I understand your concern; however, this contract is meant to replace parts that have failed - meaning they are no longer functioning according to manufacturer specs. I understand the shop's desire to replace both, but the reality is that only one needed to be replaced. You now have two fully functioning struts on your vehicle. Hopefully, you won't need us again, but we're here if you do!

The dealer was working with AUL Corp and when I got a service contract for protection, the advisor discussed it well. But I'm not a big fan of him. He sold me a bad car. It has had multiple issues. I needed a transmission first and I took the car to the BMW dealership. Once I knew what the issue was, I had them contact the warranty company with the information that I had. The dealership did a good job on the repair. But I didn’t get a rental because it’s so expensive. I would cap out the amount for what I was covered. I won’t recommend AUL.

Zayim, I was able to find your contract in our system and review your claim. Every contract has a limit for how much it will cover, and, as you stated, you did reach that limit on your last claim. When that happens, unfortunately, we cannot help with further repairs. I'm sorry you don't feel like you would recommend AUL even though we did honor the terms of your contract; however, I am happy we were able to help you when you needed it!

I wanted warranty for our vehicle for protection if something went wrong ‘cause I was afraid that the parts for my car would be expensive and AUL was suggested by the dealership. I got the powertrain package which covers the engine, the moving parts inside, and other things with it. They also have other packages available where you could get more. I've filed a claim before and things took a while because it would depend on the person you'd talk to. It was hard because there were days l’d talk to them with other people too. But things got better towards the end. And I probably would not have gotten what I needed if I didn’t work with the dealer.
I'd suggest for other people to try to stick to the first party as much as you can. ‘Cause I know when people would say, “Oh, you bought your car used,” they’d give you a look. It makes sense to just get it with a warranty so you could talk to the same guy. It wouldn't be like, “Let me call this person,” or “Let me talk to the manager and see what happens.” I had a Goodwill service, but they didn’t recommend the cost ‘cause technically, the automobile maker gave it to me. So, there was a lot of if and only ifs. But with AUL, I paid the cost upfront and had to do a loan so I was able to get other stuff done. I’ll just be working my debt. But it shouldn’t take too long to pay.

Julian, Thanks for your comments. Please let us know if we can help any other way.

We went to the dealership to purchase a vehicle and we were looking for something that offered an extended warranty. They said AUL offered the greatest amount of mileage coverage for the price, and my husband thought it was the best for us. The lady who set us up with finances in the dealership was very nice and friendly. She put everything in simple terms, and my husband and I could understand and follow everything. I felt very comfortable.
Our motor recently had some bad system failure, and we had to get a new one. I got the number from the dealership, and they referred me to a customer service rep who explained everything. She needed to speak with my husband first and as soon as it was cleared, we got everything rolling, which was very quick. AUL did great to keep us informed on what we needed to submit and the different things to get the claim moving and to get it all taken care of, so we could get our vehicle repaired. We got a refurbished motor and AUL was awesome. They made everything easy and covered all the costs. It was a huge weight off of my shoulders and AUL did more than adequately. We're extremely satisfied and I'd buy it again.

When I bought the Acadia, I went to the dealer and in the showroom, they found somebody to do the loan for me. They shopped me around different loan companies. The guy who financed me overwhelmingly recommended AUL Corp and he wouldn’t okay my loan unless I got a warranty on the vehicle. Thus far, I've had to use the warranty two times. The car is in the shop right now. It had an engine problem and AUL took care of it.
Though it took a little longer than I wanted it to, the warranty did what they were supposed to do and stuck to their word. I paid my deductible and they paid the rest. However, I had another problem with the car. Two weeks later, I had to put it back in the shop because the part that they bought for the car was a used part and the car got the same problem again. I'm waiting to hear from the mechanic because the mechanic deals with them. It was good that I was made to get the warranty. If I didn’t get it, I would've had to pay for the engine. AUL is doing a good job and now, I'm gonna see if they do the rest because the same problem came back. The warranty ain’t free and people have to pay for it but they will get their money’s worth.

Good morning Derek. I'm glad we were able to help with your repairs; that's what we're here for. I am sorry your initial claim took longer than you expected to complete; I will look into the claim further to find out why and see where we can make adjustments if the delay was caused by AUL.

I wanted to repair my vehicle anytime I've had any breakdown and the guy who I bought a car from wouldn't let me out of the place without a service contract. He helped drive me in AUL's direction and I'm satisfied. I took my car to BMW of Dallas a month ago and the service agent told me the damage was gonna cost $2,200 out of pocket. He submitted the claim and AUL was given two days to come out and look at it. There were some additional work that needed to be completed, and the cost came to $5,500. Everything that was submitted was valid and AUL paid for everything. I've told friends that if they're gonna get a warranty, they should definitely make sure they deal with AUL. If you're gonna get a used vehicle, definitely make sure you get that aftermarket warranty also because it's worth its weight in gold.

Russell, thanks for your comments; I'm happy we were able to help with your claim!

The exclusions are so broad that if the dealer can’t find the root cause of a failure then they don’t pay out. The exclusions focus on common symptoms like sludging and overheating which are symptoms of many problems as a reason not to pay. Then when you cancel the policy they return their share of the premium to the dealer and then the dealer won’t return their commission earned on the policy so you don’t get the full prorated refund. My experience with other companies was not this bad. I’m pretty sure a mechanic would never buy this policy once they saw the section 8 exclusions.

Good morning, Dan. I'm sorry you have had a negative experience with your claim and with the cancellation. I would like to look into the issue if I could. Would you mind providing your contract number or VIN, so I can locate you in our system?

AUL Uses Shoddy Parts and Shoddy Parts supplier. Received a transmission from this company through AUL Warranty company. Transmission failed after 20000 miles, the transmission had never been off the highway, or towed anything. AUL told me not to call this company as they wouldn't talk to me, and that I was out of luck because the warranty on the transmission was only for 12000 miles. Will be taking to a transmission specialists to make sure the transmission was in fact rebuilt. Very concerned that it wasn't after reading the reviews here. A rebuilt shouldn't fail after 20000 miles, especially 20000 highway miles with no towing involved.

Good morning Tony, I would be happy to look into your claim to make sure it was handled properly. Would you please send me your contract number or VIN, so I can locate you in our system?
Thanks.

The AUL warranty was presented to me at the dealership when I purchased the car. But no one explained to me that there was a monetary limit, and I have apparently exhausted my limit because I've had so much trouble with the car. It’s a BMW and I’ve had the transmission replaced and all kinds of other things that apparently exceeded the limit. I'm within the time and mileage, but AUL has a limit to how much money they will put out.
The transmission cost over $10,000 and the warranty only covered up to a portion of that. I had to pay over $2,000, and then two weeks later, the air conditioning went out and I only got 76,000 miles on my car. I had to pay the full amount for that. So that’s where my frustration is coming from. The service that I had gotten and the things that they covered up to that point were great. I'm happy with those, but people need to be aware that there is a monetary limit.

Good morning, Tamara, and thanks for your feedback. I was able to look at your contract and see that we did reach the max aggregate amount payable over the life of the contract. Your contract will pay out up to the current NADA value of your vehicle, and we did honor that. I'm sorry we can't help with further claims, but I am glad we could be there for you when you needed us!
