Updated 08/02/2022: In my last update on July 31/Aug 1, I mentioned I had no idea how I could attach an update to what I originally wrote on July 18, 2022. I see someone from Consumer Affairs had to actually read what I wrote because now the two are merged although I was not notified of it as I was notified when my first post was accepted. I am not sure if there is a way to actually delete a comment if, for example, one was posted that was discovered to be in error. So to start, I give koodoos to whomever did not hold back my update and manually merged the two. This one on Tuesday, Aug. 2nd, is my third part of this.
I will make this one much shorter. Yesterday, August 1st, I took my car to a third mechanic to make sure I would be able to get under the vehicle and see exactly for myself what the condition of my tie rod ends and bushings are in. I am bringing back up my rating to 3 Stars from the lowering to 2 Stars for AUL Corp. It seems that the dealership had merit in what they said to me even though there are still problems. Therefore since I had sent multiple notices to AUL that I believed they were charged for a job not done, I spent yesterday on the telephone and sending out e-mails to the appropriate departments and people saying I was cancelling my complaints without giving a long list as to why.
I am keeping my original 3 Star rating, though, because of all the crap I was given as well as my mechanic when each of us called and did so more than once. Since no representative initially said anything about me having to go back to the dealership and one denying that tie rod ends was even mentioned previously as well as indicating that my mechanic was attempting some sort of maybe fraud because I had put on 37 miles in between the first time I was there, going home, calling AUL, and then going back to the mechanic. We were also flat out denied to have contracted tie rod ends paid for before the last representative said I had to take the car back to the dealership where the record showed the repair was originally done.
Finally I am keeping the 3 Star rating because I am discouraged that AUL does not now have a representative willing to come out here and make some sort of comment, usually as I saw with the comments back in 2019, with at least out here saying that something will be looked further into the problem. How those customers were treated afterwards behind the scene is of course unknown, but at least someone from AUL made a public showing that is now not happening.

Updated on 08/01/2022: This is an addendum to what I wrote here on July 18, 2022/Monday. I see no way to edit that comment rating nor be able to attach this to it. The following took place after I wrote my first comment. My rating went down to 2 Stars because I am now not sure if there is collusion between AUL and the dealership or if the dealership billed for a job and never did it. With all the times I have had to call SecureOne, AUL's company I signed the warranty contract through, and get the runaround, it seems to sway towards collusion of corruption.
I am having inner tie rod end problems that were supposedly fixed and billed to SecureOne/AUL less than a year ago and about only 3,500 miles driven since the claimed repair job. SecureOne/AUL never said anything to either me or to the mechanic at the front end specialist shop it was brought to that the car had to be brought back to the dealership where the car was purchased from. It just so happened that the supposed initial job was done at the dealership and finally a representative told my preferred mechanic that the job was done less than a year ago at the dealership so it had to be brought back there to be fixed under its product warranty. That is where I now question which one of the two companies is corrupt if not both.
The dealership service department told me there is nothing wrong with my tie rod ends. Strange since two mechanic shops told me there is a problem. The dealership even came to me and wanted to show me how right they are and how wrong the front end people are. I went back into the shop while the car was still up on the lift and what they did from there fooled me, an old mechanic who still after 40 years of not working on cars has some basic knowledge remaining within my old brain cells. That is when I realized that they must do what they did to numerous old people and women as a whole, but with all the refusal from SecureOne to initially repair what is clearly in my contract and after a week finally sending me back to the original dealership, I am wondering about the collusion especially since this contract was purchased from this dealership, not from an outside warranty company.
The dealer service personnel took the wheel and shook it just like that standard has always been. I then fell for what I was told. I was told it is a bad ball joint. That part is fine as it is true, there is a bad ball joint, but there are two ways to grab a wheel and shake it....up/down or left/right. They showed me how the wheel moved from left to right and said it shows a bad ball joint. Well, I could not remember what direction showed what would be in need of repair so I was forced to pay the dealer a $100 service fee and was told I was being given a break from $185.00 and left.
In short, the test that was shown to me was for tie rod ends. It showed bad, yet I was told that it was a bad ball joint. I also was shown under the car that the tie rod ends were not moving. Well, in my mental state at that point, I never grabbed the rods themselves to see if they moved. So of course the rods did not move. The other part which makes me wonder as to the possible collusion between the two companies is that I was told my sway/stabilizer bar bushings are bad. I then said they were changed also less than a year ago by them and are under the dealership's warranty.
As soon as I said that, two things were told me. One, they are not warrantied because they go through cold, heat and snow and rubber corrodes. Really? Even if that is so, such things are made for motor vehicles and have a lifespan of maybe a decade. The actual problem with that statement being used not to warrant their job, is that that is true. Rubber does and did start to decay years ago rather quickly so nowadays bushings are made of synthetic material like nylon and whatever else so that does not happen. The other thing is that as soon as I insisted that they fix them under the warranty that the dealership advertises at least a year, all of a sudden the service advisor said that they made a mistake and that the bushing are really good. Need I say more on this?
Now, I am mentioning what happened at the dealership and this is a rating comment about AUL Corp., but I have to tie the two together with all the crap that was given to me from AUL/SecureOne and to my mechanic and then finally being told by the AUL representative that the car has to be taken back to the dealership, not at first told that, but after they were called more than once from both me and my mechanic over a week's time.
Is this a collusion scam? Has the dealership charged AUL for a job not done or used shoddy material when no part should be replaced pertaining to what holds all vehicles on the road, its tires, suspension, and steering joints? No one wants to now take care of a safety issue that an extended warranty was purchased for upon purchase of the car? As of yet I have not been responded to pertaining to this. I realize it has been two weeks since this was done and about a week that AUL has been notified, but all seems to have gone silent. Even here my first comment has not been responded to by a representative which Consumer Affairs has set up for the company to do so.
Not too happy,Jim

Original Review: First off, I just got through reading what I think is said to be 34 comments about AUL. What I don't understand is why all of them are only within the year 2019. Has Consumer Affairs started to sanction reviews for some reason after, as well as before, 2019 pertaining to AUL Corp? Has AUL Corp deleted all such posts? Now, I am aware that it is routine for AUL to deny claims as often as they can. Why? Because of the money factor. Therefore I am wondering why I was snippily told the other day by a Secure One representative (a company that issues AUL policies and is now owned by Westlake Financial) that they will not pay for a ball joint replacement after I told them that the expert front end company I brought my car to will do a better job as a whole than a car dealership that does not specialize in such jobs and do it for much less cost?
Oh, I was told that it is not specifically written in my policy as it says in "Section VII/Section 7", whatever that is, even though I paid for the best policy offered and was told by the dealer that it covers everything from bumper-to-bumper, but does not include the bumpers nor the cosmetics, but does include ALL safety parts such as a ball joint that if that goes while driving, in traffic in particular, the odds are very good that there will be a major pile-up and many people could be severely hurt.
Now, I have no idea what was left out of my supposed FULL policy, but a ball joint that is bad is indeed a safety factor. The car also needs tie rod ends replaced which supposedly are covered because of safety reasons, but the ball joint next to those jointed rods will not be covered even though the total cost would be less than if I brought the car to the dealership and have only the tie rod ends replaced. Money-wise that does not make sense. Therefore I have to wonder if it is really the person who answers the phone on AUL's/Secure One's side who has the power or authority to make such a logical reasonable decision and then answers that it will not be taken care of almost as though that somehow it is preferred to pay twice the cost bringing it to a dealership as then the representative's file will show a denial which implies that it is not really the cost as much as it is having on one's file that x amount of claims were denied.
Oh, I called and got approval, by the way, but was told the front end shop had to call to confirm. So that was done the next day. Well, because there was a 37 mileage difference than what I told and what the mechanic said, that was used at the time as the final excuse not to accept the claim even for only the tie rod ends that are indeed stipulated inside of my contract that it is a claimable repair job. That helps me to confirm about who is answering the phone at AUL/Secure One's end. So for now, the 3 Star rating is because as of yet, it is not known how inappropriate AUL/Secure One is about to take this since not only is it for safety reasons, but the car will be apart in that area anyway WHEN THAT IS CONTRACTUALLY APPROVED.

There is no worse company than this one. After 3 repair facility, 3 estimate, thousand dollars spent on reports, car rental, lost workdays, 4 months just waiting for an opinion from an inspector who asked to do burn tests, pictures, videos and then ask for the teardown. After the teardown, the car was stopped for another 4 weeks for AUL Corporation to deny the claim.
Worst warranty company on the market. Stay away from this company as much as possible. Company without any credibility. Company without transparency in business, omit everything. They do not provide any type of document, they have no respect for the customer. Our loss was $7,000.00. How much will yours be if you trust this company? I hope this review serves as a warning to consumers who are looking to purchase insurance from this company. Stay away from this company as much as possible.

The experience with AUL Corp was very good. I had an old car, so I had a lot of repairs. I also had to spend money so it didn't cover everything, but it was better than nothing. It helped out and did what it could do. An improvement could be if they honored a yearly oil change. Other than that, they were wonderful. They had a lot of places I can take my car if I chose to. But I stayed with one person. They were very good.

He said they deal with them all the time. The second time, I had a hub go out. My mechanic had dealt with other car warranties, but he didn't want to do it. I gave him AUL's number and he said said it was no problem. I get calls all the time about the warranty stuff. There are scammers but AUL is not. It's a legit company and I'm glad I did it. On 1/31/2022 I had my car towed to the nearest and efficient dealership Jimmy the Boxer service repair shop after it shut off on my fiance and child in the middle of the highway. The repair shop has broke down the vehicle to get the diagnosis to send to AUL and order the Motor. After a week AUL representative told Jimmy the Boxer repair department they're not paying and I can't have my car fixed there and I have to send my vehicle to the small dealership I brought it from that doesn't have a real service shop. Nobody has called me from AUL therefore, I had to call several times. One agent Destiny told me of living within 60 miles can't get it fixed at no other shop only at dealership where it came from. I told her first I don't live within 60 miles and it's doesn't state that on my extended Warranty Contact. Also, the dealership where I brought the car doesn't have a real repair shop. It was a small dealership located in a small area at a Mitsubishi Dealership.
On 2/4/2022 The AUL agent Destiny said ok and told me she will send an email and everything should be OK by 8pm. On 2/7/2022 Tyi the service manager at Jimmy the Boxer told me that AUL Claim department said a Supervisor told them I have to send my car to where I brought it from and this is after I already spoken to AUL on 2/4/2022. There hasn't been any agent or Supervisor that has called me nor left me a voicemail message. At this point AUL is causing stress on me and my family and preventing my car from being fixed right away. My family doesn't have any transportation and can't afford to have my car sit for another week without being repaired. I only had my car for 1 year and 4 months. This has been the worst experience I ever had with an extended warranty contract. It's going on two weeks since my car been in the shop and Jimmy the Boxer Service department is ready to fix my car and has the part for my car already ordered.

AUL Corp was awesome. Everything went smoothly on their end. But one thing that can be improved is that they talk to me when they talk to the places working on my vehicle. Because I had no idea. I trusted that the guy was legit, but he wasn't. And touching base with me, because he told me one thing, then I would call AUL and they would tell me something else. I found out something different in the end from AUL. Please communicate with the customers regarding what they are doing with the company or with the company that is doing the work because those people are getting away with some shady stuff and customers are paying for it out of the insurance thing. I hate to see that because good customers end up losing money in the end because shady mechanical companies are doing stuff and they end up taking the downside of it. Had I known some things, I would have gone somewhere else.
I was grateful I had AUL because they took care of me and I didn't realize the company that was doing the work was so shady. If they communicate with customers more, then they would know actually was going on and we can communicate with them. The guy even took some parts off my Jeep that he was not authorized to, so it was bad. He told me for weeks, “Yep. We should be done this week.” Then I called AUL and they told me the truth. “No. We haven't even got the adjuster out there yet.” The guy put 100 miles on my jeep.

Bought this plan for a newly purchased vehicle, had the truck barely 3 month, threw a SES light. I was sold this as an extended warranty, upon taking truck to certified dealer all issues were denied, one was emission related, nothing with the emission system is covered, know this before you even think about getting this warranty. I also had a camera control module go bad, refused to cover it, due to the fact the manufacturer calls it a camera, yet I can’t just install it as it needs to be programmed and then once programmed calibrated to the vehicle. Useless warranty, customer service is pointless as the first person I talked to got me worked up, only to transfer me to her supervisor, to talk down to me, that I don’t know how to read a contract. Buyer beware, as to see your contract, as many items aren’t covered, which makes this a money grab.

I paid $2,600.00 for this warranty because they said it would cover my engine. FOUR times I called them and FOUR times they told me my engine WAS covered. Each time I had service to be done, they told the Service people my engine was NOT covered. My check engine light came on and was diagnosed as having misfires, requiring the piston rings to be re-ringed: DENIED. EVEN THOUGH IT SAYS IN MY PAPERWORK, THAT MY ENGINE WAS COVERED AND THERE IS NO EXCLUSION FOR MY ENGINE. AUL Warranties are a JOKE. MY vehicle is still not fixed. I am so far past disgusted it is NOT FUNNY. I WANT MY ENGINE REPAIRED or REPLACED (Which would be the cheapest thing to do). I WANT AUL TO HONOR THE WARRANTY THAT I PAID FOR. Having one is very helpful for your pockets and with the payment you're making, it's worth it because you never know. One day, you're going to have big car issues, and with this, you are covered. When you're trying to make a claim, you have to wait a bit longer, but other than that, it's fine. The package I chose covers everything. I already had some issues with the car and made a claim, and they said, "No, it was covered." I like the warranty so far. He looked at what the policy would cover in the event something happens and said that they may be my go-to moving forward.
So far, they've been excellent. After I got my warranty, I started driving my car and it sounded like my gears wouldn't shift. I went to Nissan and they said they'd take a look at it. Then they called me back and told me that I had AUL Corp. I ended up needing a transmission and they took care of that. They also ended up taking care of the leak. But everything else that was maintenance, I took care of it. I would recommend AUL Corp. to everybody because of my experience. I purchased a 2018 Ford Explorer two years ago in Tennessee. The dealer gave me the extended warranty through AUL for close to $3000. I’ve never had to use it until now. Sunday my APIM went out. Screen and radio won’t work. The vehicle went into limp mode and check engine light came on. I was able to drive it the two miles back to my house at 10mph. Couldn’t call to file a claim until Monday. Was never able to get anyone on the phone Monday and finally got it towed to a Ford place on Tuesday to at least get the ball rolling.
The mechanic called today (Thursday) and said he spoke to my warranty company and they will only cover portion of what’s needed to fix my radio/screen issues and I would need to come out of pocket over $500 for that alone. He said I also need a grill shutter and throttle body which is what’s causing the check engine light and limp mode. In total I have to come out of pocket $2,145 to get my car back functioning properly on the road (given this came completely out of nowhere, my car was never noticeably running differently.) After extensively reviewing my contract agreement I called AUL and sat on hold for quite some time to get some sort of understanding on how the throttle body and grill shutter are not covered.
To my dismay the lady on the other end was apparently not happy with these questions and very aggressive with her responses. “A throttle body isn’t covered! It’s in section 8 letter L”. I try to explain that this states that ADJUSTMENTS to the throttle body aren’t covered but this isn’t an adjustment. It’s an entire replacement. “Yes well Throttle body isn’t covered in your plan”. I am trying to not get overwhelmed and still get some sort of answers from her so I move on to the grill shutter situation and said, "Okay well the grill shutter, I’m also wondering how that isn’t covered? My Estate coverage says it covers the radiator and the cooling group. But I’m not understanding how the grill shutter isn’t a part of that. It won’t open, if it doesn’t open my car will overheat causing way more damage than what just that costs." “It’s not in your plan ma’am is there anything else you need”.
So I move on to ask about a rental and she said they will reimburse up to 5 days. So I got off the phone and now I just want to CRY. I got the warranty that seemed to cover just about everything and have never used it. I have less than a 1000 miles left on it too. A full time job and two kids and no way from point A to point B and terrified to get a rental and pay for it and AUL decide not to reimburse that either then barely have the money to pay for the actual service and parts. Not to mention I live in Louisiana now and was just hit by hurricane Ida and we are still recovering from that. Two weeks without power and spending every dime on gas for the generator. I’m truly just at a loss for words right now. I have never had such a terrible experience.

I am glad that after all is said and done you were able to cover some of the repairs. I probably would not get or recommend the AUL warranty contract again due to the inconvenience we had.

Thank you for the quick response. I will absolutely pass along your feedback. Thanks again.

My speed sensor went out causing the ABS, traction control, and trailer breaking light to come on in my '16 GMC Canyon. AUL informed me that this is not covered. Save your money, they will not cover cost. A sensor should not be considered a maintenance wear part like brakes would be.

I purchased a 2011 Cadillac CTS from Sac River Auto in Davis, CA on April 26, 2021. At the time I purchased the car, I also bought the extended warranty to cover any issues that came up. There is no future start up date listed on this warranty application so no time limitations in my estimation. I took the car to the Cadillac dealership in Chico, CA to get a new fob and have it paired with the car (the one that came with it was in sad shape). Unfortunately, the service engine soon light had come on and I had them go ahead and check it out. They needed to replace a couple of valves that were leaking, and all 4 motor mounts are broken. A $2500 fix.
The dealership contacted AUL and they said since the contract was so new, they wouldn't cover any of the problems with this car. I did purchase it AS IS, but it was my understanding that an extended warranty, that has been bought and paid for, as part of the purchase of a vehicle was good for the duration of the contract - no matter what the timeline. I realize that I have not had the car very long, but did not anticipate any issues this early in the process. I live on a fixed income and this is quite a hit.

It was very difficult to deal with both the dealership and AUL. They both wanted to point fingers at each other saying, “We can't do this because it's the other one's problem." I finally ended up having to call and get both of them on with me instead of one call and saying one thing, and then the other call, it saying a different thing. And I'm paying for a warranty. For one, I shouldn't have to worry myself about that. They should be able to work that out between themselves. The warranty process was hard to deal with. I was very dissatisfied with the whole process. But AUL went above and beyond. Because when I bought the truck, the family that I bought it from, they weren't with the gentleman when he purchased the truck. So they didn't hear the dealership say that you had to take it back to the same dealership to have it serviced.
I took it to a different dealership, to one that was quite a bit closer to me. AUL did warranty the truck at a different dealership within 60 miles of the previous dealership. But the only reason that they did that was because of me being told by the person that I bought the truck from that I could take it to any Ford dealership, they would warranty the truck.
Then when AUL told the dealership that they wouldn't deal with the dealership anymore, that it had to be taken back to the previous dealership, they called me with a bill, saying that I had a $175 diagnostic fee. Then I was going to have to have it towed to the other dealership because the truck wouldn't run. I finally got ahold of somebody at AUL. They ended up warrantying it because there was going to be that fee. Because I point-blank asked, “Who's gonna pay?” because I was told one thing. I had to go through the whole process of getting the warranty transferred over into my name. I asked the agent that I dealt with, “I'm taking the truck to this dealership. Is that okay?” She said, “Yes, that would be no problem.” So, when I called back and I spoke to the supervisor to get that all worked out, they did warranty it at a different dealership.

They told us what they were gonna cover and everything got taken care of. The cost was fair as well. However, they need to do a better job of clarifying with their clients as far as with the dealerships. We had no bad experience contacting AUL, but there were some things that were unclear and it was confusing for a while. We had to find some different things out, and through a little investigation, they were cleared up. My wife used to write service contracts through GMAC and a couple other ones, so she knew a lot about it.
Most people don't read through the fine print, but my wife goes through the fine print very thoroughly and she could not find the limit. If there's a limit, that needs to be clear. They said, “Well, you have a limit on it.” I said, “It wasn't disclosed to us what that limit was.” They need to do a better job of making sure that that is on the upfront because that's where the confusion was. It took me over a year and 3 shops to find one to even deal with this company because they made it so difficult for both myself and the garage. I was required to pay huge fees just for the work required for diagnosis. $600 then had to be examined by AUL. Then once diagnosis had to wait for inspection the whole time I had no transportation. They agreed to pay for rental car. I paid for 1 week then they called rental company and put it on their acct card. It took a month. I was returned my deposit in the car when I went to turn in the rental. Was told it was taken care of.
After I got my vehicle back I had nothing but problems. The mechanic refused to even come and give me a jump less than a hour after I picked up my vehicle. It wouldn't start when I was returning the rental. All the fluids were low. They said I could bring it in and they would take a look. They were paid in full. Not once was I called or contacted by AUL. So I had no chance in getting anything done to fix the mess. They were paid already. So my car isn't fixed then on top of that...AUL refused to pay the rental vehicle. I even went in to return the rental 3 times and was told it was taken care to....then to my surprise almost all the money I had in my acct was taken to Pay for the rental car because AUL changed their mind I was told.
So I'm almost homeless and a lot of my bills are unpaid because I'm on a fixed income. This was one of the worst things I've been thru. And I borrowed money just to get the car for the first week because AUL wouldn't give me any side answers. I had to even pay cash upfront to get the engine tore down so it could be diagnosed plus more cash for parts they said had to be replace but weren't covered by AUL even tho it was part of the repair. And my vehicle is worse now but I have no way to do a thing with a vehicle I'm afraid to drive and still paying on and broke because of buying new battery paying for the rental. Couldn't pay all my bills...etc!!! Ruined my life and really put me in a bad place that I probably can't even fix. Not once did anyone even reach out to me at all. To even ask if my car was fixed or even to tell me they weren't going to pay for the car. No warning at all.
I paid almost my whole month's income and my vehicle is ruined. I have no options to fix it either. So if I can help one person to not go thru this then it will be worth it. I'm disabled, have no one to help and have no idea how to fix this mess. I couldn't even get groceries. I doubt the holidays will be very happy either since I had the warranty so in case of an emergency I didn't end up in this kind of a situation. From day one AUL has been the worst!!! But there are a bunch of stuff wrong with it which are the same things so I bought a warranty with AUL. This is my wife's van and it had been in twice now while on the insurance.
Our experience with the dealers was pretty good but not with the dealership. I'll never go back to that dealership ever again where I bought the vehicle from. That dealership is owned by Toyota. It's a car lot where they don't wanna sell those cars on the Toyota or GM lot or they have a separate sales lot for them. Compared to the dealership, the Toyota dealers do good work. There are a couple of guys in there that are different. But some of the managers are questionable for what they consider safe.
The dealership we go through now is Toyota here in Rhinelander. The service people have been very helpful with us and took care of an issue that we had previously. They seemed to care about it versus the other place that did not really care. The individual who had done the work on our vehicle is good. I don't mind paying if the work is done right.
The dealer's finance manager was good. We dealt with them before so he was familiar with us. We bought another car from the same sales rep. It went pretty smoothly. He told us they covered everything. And although I don't think what they told us is 100% of what the contract is, that's fine. It's just the sales pitch was angled a little differently. I felt comfortable with the rep for the most part thinking that he had the best interest in mind for us.
The service contract has been pretty good for the most part. But it surprises me how expensive a nut and a bolt can be. And it's kind of astonishing that that part is not covered under the warranty. And sometimes the bolt is like 50 bucks and sometimes it's not. It makes no sense that I can go to the store and I can buy a bolt for $1. That blows my mind because I can buy a part at a car parts shop nearby. It's like three bucks from the dealership and pay maybe a 10th of the price for a part. That aside, I'd tell friends to do AUL especially if they are not sure of the vehicle. Our first claim on our van was more expensive than the warranty.

AUL has been fine but it hasn't been with the service providers. They finally took care of what they should have in the first place. Two days after I purchased my 2016 Ford Escape with 95-some thousand miles on it, some engine light came on, “Service Now.” I was out of state so I called Honda and they told me to use my extended warranty out of state. I had to line up the service for it. That service department did not fix the problem even though I had to pay it to get my car back. I came back to Missouri where I live, called Honda, and told them what happened. They got my car back in and fixed the problem.
I have another problem with it. If it rains and I have the air conditioner on, the passenger side floorboard floods with water. So, I took it to get fixed on my own. I went to a different shop than Honda. The guy said he cleaned out what he could and would not charge me. Hopefully, I won't have the problem again. I haven't been in the rain and the air conditioner going since then.

The vehicle was old and if something went wrong, I wanted it to be taken care of. It was going fine until AUL Corp declined to pay for something. They said it was because that they went above the vehicle’s value and that they wouldn't do anything else for it. I bought the best service they had which was state program. As far as my knowledge, there were no type of discrepancies so I was under the impression that if something major did go wrong, that it would be taken care of. But in the end, it wasn't.
The dealer was straight up. They were surprised that even after they were told the same thing, and then they were told about section eight of the contract, and that stated there. They were even told, “Well, I guess you didn't read the contract properly.” They were stunned as well by the reason given for not doing it. If the dealership had known about that stipulation, I'm sure that it would have been explained to me. I found them to be really good people. They tried to work with AUL Corp and me on the issue.
Right now there’s a vehicle sitting in my yard that I cannot drive. I would never recommend AUL Corp to anyone unless they went through the whole contract and someone explained it to them instead of just sitting there and taking that contract. Because as far as that goes, if anyone bought a used vehicle that went over the value of the vehicle and something couldn't be fixed, then the warranty is void. It's no good. Why would I buy something like that? And why would I recommend it to anyone? I'm quite sure that the dealership that I bought the vehicle from has expressed their backlash to it as well. They have also said that they are probably going to someone else to try to figure out something else because that also makes them look guilty -- as a reflection. People wouldn't want to deal with them due to that fact.

AUL Corp was the one that was advertised by the dealer I purchased my truck through but I am unimpressed with them. My engine died about two months after I bought the truck. The dealership told AUL about it and the warranty came back and said that they don’t cover that despite the fact that it was covered. The dealership had to foot the bill. People should pay attention to the fine print when considering their warranty options.

My experience with AUL Corp was phenomenal. The dealership in Lafayette, Louisiana where I purchased my truck from offered me the extended warranty and I read through it and I really liked the offer. I bought the best extended warranty that they had and I only had to pay 35% upfront. AUL Corp has been very honest and generous. They were very helpful and easy to work with. I'm thinking seriously about extending my warranty which should be up in six or eight months.
I had a transmission issue back in 2019. Then the second issue I had were the drivetrain issue very recently. For the first one, AUL didn’t send any adjusters. For the second time, they sent an adjuster to the shop and he was very thorough and he went through everything. Later on, they called the shop and told them to proceed with the repairs. Then when I was about to pay my deductible, I ran into this taxes thing which was worth more than my co-pay. My last warranty coverage didn’t pay taxes for some reason and AUL had me pay the bill taxes, which I really didn’t understand and I didn’t see it anywhere in the contract. But I had been happy with their service so I felt that I could just let go on something for them.
I've had some coworkers and friends that had extended warranty with some other companies and their experiences with them have been terrifying. They’ve been scammed. With AUL, even when my truck broke down, they came through and kept their promises. That’s why I'm not gonna stop doing business with them. If I have any other vehicles besides my truck, I will surely go with them if it has no warranty from the dealership or the manufacturer.

I've had a few claims with AUL. The very first one that I had was pretty challenging to work with them. They refused to cover the warranty part at first because the mechanic, the Dodge dealership that I took the truck to had sent them a photo and it showed that there was an aftermarket cold air intake on the truck, which wasn't there when I purchased the truck. And they were refusing to replace the turbo, which was completely under warranty because they said that they had an aftermarket part on the truck.
And they know well that they have offered these warranties on used trucks and vehicles. They should know that if they're not willing to offer this warranty on vehicles that may have aftermarket parts. They basically said that they wouldn't honor it. I got myself involved in calling them. The dealership that I had purchased the truck from was kind enough to give them a call as representatives of their product and selling it, and the dealership that I had the truck at, all three of us started to call them and basically complained to them. And after a little while, they finally said that they would cover it. For my second and third claims, however, I had no problems.
I probably won't get a warranty through them again because they were such a pain to work with, and I don't have time for that. I need my truck, and if they're going to complain about stuff like that and drag it out, then I need somebody who's gonna work and be efficient. They need to clarify that if they're not gonna warranty something like that, then they need to go get their hands into putting warranties on brand new cars if that's a thing.

I bought the car from the Handy Toyota here in St. Albans from approximately two months ago. I noticed that when I put the car in drive, the drive light starts blinking and when I called the people that I purchased the car from, which the warranty will be up by June 6th, I explained to them. They brought it in, looked at it and they said that it seemed that I was having some sort of blinking light because of the transmission. I told them I was covered, that I had the warranty insurance and sure enough, they called AUL up. First, AUL denied the claim because they didn’t feel that it was under the warranty.
I asked what they meant and they said they only took care of internal things. I said that it was an internal thing and that I spoke to a gentleman at the facility who said that it was a gray area. It was taken care of anyway, so I was really happy for that. I had other problems too. I just bought the car, but the struts were going as well. Now, that’s probably not under the warranty because it’s an external problem, but my primary concern was the transmission. I took care of the struts out of my own pocket and all in all, I’m fairly happy of the warranty taking care of the problem.
Whatever guidelines AUL goes by though, they should let people know exactly what they won’t cover. In this way, a person like me won’t be surprised. Because the way it was worded to me when I was told about the warranty, I thought I was covered for any mechanical problems such as drivetrain, transmission, or engine. Any dealership that they would do business with, they should know exactly what they’re saying to the people before they purchase the warranty. Still, I would share that information and recommend them that.

If you want OEM parts, you have to pay out of pocket. Be careful before buying this product. Read the fine print, then read it again. Then buy something else.

Hi Noah, we are very sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with outcome of your claim. Reviewing the notes I do believe that there was some miss information provided to you by our claims team. The turbo chargers that we have offered to supply are OEM Ford items. They will come from a Ford dealership and have the Ford warranty supporting them. In regards to the shop requesting to replace the inter-cooler you are correct that it is simply not listed for coverage. That being said the repair shop did not provide us with a failure to the inter-cooler they simply advised it was recommended due to oil contamination. Oil contamination in an inter-cooler is very common and requires a cleaning not a replacement. If you would like AUL to supply the OEM Ford turbos please let your repair shop know and have them give us a call to get them ordered.

Great experience! I had originally reviewed AUL poorly, before finding out that they had agreed to pay for my teenage son’s truck, and the fault was actually on the dealer. To quickly recap, I had purchased a warranty through AUL when I purchased my son’s truck. He soon began experiencing issues with the lifters, and the service department at the dealership determined the issue required an engine replacement. AUL agreed that replacing the motor was the best option, and communicated this to my dealer. I appreciate the service from AUL, as they completely took care of this problem for my son and I. I highly recommend AUL for you and your vehicle as well!

I purchased a used truck for my 16-year old son, and not knowing the history other than a clean CarFax, I purchased a warranty from AUL to be safe. Unfortunately several months later, the lifters began knocking. First, the dealership where I purchased the vehicle reached out to AUL and were told that if there was any sludge in the engine, no repairs would be covered. Fortunately after risking taking the motor apart and having to personally pay for this, no sludge was found. Unfortunately, there were metal shavings in the motor, and the dealership mechanic and GMC both stated a new engine would be necessary.
AUL refused these recommendations, and only chose to pay for the lifters. I have no idea at this stage if this will be a reliable vehicle for my teenage son, as AUL chose what to do what was best for their bottom line, rather than pay for the coverage I purchased in good faith. If you purchase a used vehicle, I can not recommend AUL. They will disregard factory and mechanic recommendations, and do the bare minimum in repairing your vehicle.

Mr Travis, you are very welcome and we are sorry to hear that this was not communicated to you. We definitely understand your frustration. I do see there is a note that the service writer we were originally dealing with no longer works there. Maybe something got lost in the shuffle. I will have our adjuster reach out to them as well.

My warranty department said that it is burning the appropriate amount of oil and that they will not cover the total repair. The repair needed was to change the pistons and rings. The warranty department would not cover this repair due to them saying the oil was burning appropriately.
The repair shop, due to the denial of the claim, changed out the timing chain and the actuators, and stated that I would have to bring my car in every month to make sure that the oil didn't dip below where it should be, at my expense. Upon exiting the dealership, it took me a minute to process the fact that I have paid into this warranty and am stuck with my vehicle never being fully repaired. I have never in all the years I have owned vehicles, ever had a problem like this, where the two companies disagreed and left me stuck like this.
The one time it did happen, the Attorney General allowed me to use the Lemon Law which was very appropriate at that time, with that vehicle. I really feel that I was taken this time also. The timing chain and actuators were just changed a month and a half before this incident. I'm just trying to understand why that repair was allowed to go through twice and I am still having an issue with my engine but the actual repair needed, won't be approved.

AUL Corp covers my whole truck from front to back. And every time I've called them, they always took care of me. They’re the best extended coverage there is because they don’t hassle you about getting anything fixed. You call them, you say you got a problem with your vehicle, and even if they have to send an adjuster to take it out, they cover it. It doesn’t matter what it is.
I tried AUL once back in around 2015. I had the Altima and heard about them. I’ve heard of a few others and heard people have complaints. I read up on AUL and looked up who’s who. Most of the time, people are gonna tell the truth on the internet when it comes to certain things. If it’s good, they’ll say it’s good and they give it a good rating, and if it’s not, then they’ll say that it's a scam. Everybody said that AUL was pretty decent and I tried them.
After my first claim, I knew I was instantly hooked. When I called them and told them I had something going on with my engine, they sent an adjuster out. They figured the issue out with the shop and it was the timing chains and the guides in the car. That was almost a $1,500 job, but they didn’t have a problem covering it. They took care of me at that certain time and I really appreciate it because that was the only car I had at the time. You pay a little price for AUL, but in the long run, it’s worth it. I purchased the AUL extended warranty for $3,000.00 when I purchased a used 2012 Ford F-150 in July of 2017. I wanted to ensure my powertrain was covered since it was an older vehicle. I have been taking care of all preventative and routine maintenance, along with other corrective measures to keep the truck running. I just filed my first claim in January 2020 for an oil leak I had a few days prior on a holiday (MLK). Per the contract, I am allowed to take emergency corrective measures and report the claim after. I paid $817.00 to replace my oil sensor plug and oil pan gasket. I submitted the claim only to be told I would receive approximately $57 after the $100 deductible.
The AUL agent I spoke with was condescending and told me I paid 10 times more than the parts original amount, and $270 per service hour. Therefore, I would only be reimbursed a smaller amount. Remind you, I didn't get AUL involved before I authorized the maintenance since it was an "emergency on a holiday." This was a local Firestone auto shop, which was close enough for me to get my truck to without doing further damage to the engine. I'm not in the automotive industry, so I was not aware I was being charged 10 times what AUL claims I should have paid.
I am extremely frustrated with AUL. All they have done is read the fine print of the contract to me just to find another reason not to pay. I am a 15-year combat veteran, not a lawyer. All I want to do is get my truck fixed and at least have a decent amount covered by the insurance company that I paid to help me in these circumstances.

Mr Cole,
Thank you for taking the time to bring your concerns to our attention. I believe there has been a break down in communication and we apologize for that. Our system shows we have the authorization for the oil pressure switch and oil pan gasket pending. The total reimbursement for those repairs is $575 after your deductible. We do show that Firestone over charged for the parts and labor on the repairs which is why the totals are off. Please give us a call to review when you can and ask for Ryan.

To me this is extremely unacceptable and petty. If you have to have a part replaced the whole thing should be in the price. Or say an 02 sensor that's inside a part that needs to be replaced, they won't cover putting a new sensor in. Still extremely unacceptable and petty. So read your extended warranty before you buy one because they aren't always the same. Read everything including the fine print and make sure to ask questions and you clearly understand what you are getting or aren't getting. Trust me it happens.

Ms Smith,
Thank you for reaching out to AUL with your concerns. Reviewing the claim on your vehicle for the fuel injector we do not show that it requires any nuts or bolts to be replaced. Please give us a call to review if you have any other questions or concerns.

I've used AUL in the past, and it was for a newer vehicle. But I canceled them out of disappointment considering that I paid for the bit of service that I could possibly get. When my ABS system quit working and it was four grand, I was informed that AUL covers everything except for the bolts that hold in the parts that are covered. And so if they broke it, then I would have to pay for it. But my AUL wouldn't cover it. So when I found that out, I discontinued the service. But when I bought a car off the dealership, I got AUL again and I was satisfied with the service contract this time around. I was able to get a hold of someone when I had questions or concerns that would answer right away. When I had a claim, the process seemed pretty quick to me. My car fixed by Samson Auto and it was a good experience. I would do business with them again. I'm pretty satisfied.

We’ve had a couple of claims with AUL. We call and the process is simple. I bought my car in Michigan and I live in Ohio, so I have to speak to somebody to see who does stuff in my area every time. The reps have been polite and helpful. However, they’re all slow to get back sometimes when my mechanic himself dealt with them. Other than that, the service has been all right. The last time they fixed the air, it was kinda of nightmare, but this time around, it was okay. They made it right. This is my first extended auto warranty and I got it 'cause I was buying a used car. It was still a considerable amount of money, so the payment was high. I’m thinking if anything went wrong, it would save me a little bit of money.

Husband and I purchased a vehicle and the AUL extended warranty (roughly $2800 out of our pocket). Vehicle less than a year later needs a new transmission and AUL was awful to deal with. The dealership was great, but AUL delayed on getting an adjuster out, then told us we had to pay for the rental car, then argued back and forth stating that the transmission had to be rebuilt and they couldn't locate a rebuilt transmission. 15 days later my husband is ready to pick up his car and AUL won't extend the rental car coverage to make it right. Like my husband and I should have gone without a vehicle while they repaired his car. First--- DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. You would be better off paying for the repair them cover anything. They are awful to work with and after 2 weeks of dealing with them, I have basically started drinking heavily to cope with the BS.
If "CHARLIE" helps you, say your prayers. Most condescending person I have ever spoken to. He continued to use my first name and speak down to me. I can't stand when people say things like "Well (insert name here), the contract clearly states"....hmmmm in this day and age, we shouldn't be guided by contracts, we should be guided by doing the right thing. He should feel happy that at Christmas time not only did his crappy company leave us without a vehicle, but he left my kids without a couple more Christmas presents. I am truly upset and I am going to give them 1-star reviews everywhere I possibly can. Good luck AUL. You'll be out of business in no time treating people the way you do. And Charlie--- I hope your car breaks down and you have to deal with your company....best of luck on that.

Ms Fenn, we are very sorry to hear this is how you feel about your experience with AUL. Some of the concerns you have mentioned are not reflected in your claim though so we are a bit confused. The rental is being paid directly to your repair facility so there should not be any out of pocket expense for what we are covering. We covered an additional 4 days of rental above what the contract allows to help cover you during the repair process. In total AUL has covered over $5,000 to repair your vehicle including an additional $400 in items that the contract does address, again to help you out. Please feel fee to give us a call to review as it sounds like you may not be have accurate information.

We were pleasantly surprised with their willingness to cover things that came up during our warranty period. Sometimes there was a bit of a wait to get an inspector out to the dealership, but aside from that we couldn’t be more pleased. We ended up with a TOTAL lemon of a car and having a warranty literally saved us. They even had to replace part of the engine. We would absolutely buy a warranty from them again! I did have all our work done at a dealer so that I had indisputable proof that we had maintained the car since we purchased it... which I highly recommend. It was WHY they replaced the engine. It had ALL required oil changes and maintenance and we could prove it!

When we purchased our BMW vehicle, we wanted to get an extended warranty. AUL Corp was what was offered to us and we took it. However last year, we were stranded on a highway for about two hours on our way to a Father’s Day event with family members. We didn't get to go to that. What happened was the timing belt guides broke inside the engine, sucked the metal up into the oil pump, and wound up seizing up the engine. I was under the impression that we were gonna get a new engine. It took almost a month before I got my car back because they searched around the nation for an engine that they wanted that had 65,000 miles on it. They found one and BMW went through a 128-point inspection. Within 24 hours after we got the vehicle back, the check engine light came on and they had to do something else to the engine and I gotta put $2,000 more into it.
The dealer said they did let AUL Corp know about it and then they said they weren’t gonna put any more money into it. They said they were gonna put a maximum of $13,000, which is quite a bit, but it’s a BMW and I guess that’s just what it cost. So, they took it right to the limit of almost $13,000 through AUL. And then when we got it back, they said that they were not gonna cover it and I had to pay for it. Also, AUL Corp said that they’d work out what I had to do to get reimbursed for my towing expenses, but they made it difficult for me. I had to do a lot of legwork to do that and I wound up just eating it. That was almost $200 to tow it to my house. So far, they handled everything. It wasn’t to my satisfaction, but it all got taken care of. AUL will cover up to 12,000 miles, 12 months for 12,000 miles. And that’s as far as it’s going now. Lastly, they never communicated with me. It was strictly through the dealer. So, I would like to see some communication.

My mom ended up having to take it in and we paid out-of-pocket because the AUL didn’t answer, and then it took a week to get ahold of somebody, and three weeks for them to respond as to whether I was gonna be reimbursed or not. I called the company and informed them that my fan belt was due for changing and to my utter dismay, I was informed that unless the fan belt fails completely, the company has no role to play. Nobody wait for a part to fail totally before replacing it so of what use is this extended warranty for which I am paying every month to me. If the fan belt fails while the car is in motion it will cause extensive damage to the engine and I am pretty sure AUL will argue that it failed because I didn’t replace it when it was due for replacement. So my question again is: of what use is this warranty to me?

Charles, thanks for your comments. I was able to find you in our system and look at your contract. Timing belt replacement is required by your vehicle's maintenance guidelines, and, unfortunately, this is not something that is covered by your contract. Normal maintenance of the vehicle is always the responsibility of the owner of the vehicle. What? These people only care about your money and then after they get it you're pretty much on your own for all repairs on your car. Don't do business with these people. You can do better I promise.

Sarah, I'm sorry if you had a bad experience with us; would you mind providing your contract number, so I can look into your concerns? Without having your contract to review, I can only give you a general answer. Most of our contracts offer coverage to the cylinder heads or block ONLY if they failed due to the failure of an internally lubricated part. However, if the failure is caused by a manufacturer defect, unfortunately, that type of failure is excluded from coverage. As I said, though, I can only speak in generalities without being able to review your specific claim. Thanks.

The entire process was completed without a hitch. When I picked up my vehicle from the repair shop I paid my deductible and the small portion that was not covered under the warranty and drove off. I called the repair shop to follow up with them about a week later and was told by them that they had received payment from AUL the same day I picked up my vehicle. We called up AUL with the policy number and they said that the policy wasn’t on file. So, the work had to get started later on in the day. We just called back, gave the policy number and it popped up just fine. I filed a claim and AUL worked with the dealer. I had a very long trip right after I got the car, so I figured with 150,000 miles, there had to be something. So, immediately, when I got to the end of my trip, I took it into the dealership to get general maintenance done and to have a look over, and they happened to catch some ball joints and control arms. It has been very smooth. Everything got covered right up to the limit of the coverage and the work was very professional.
There was a part that I needed that wasn’t covered by the policy that I had. It was part of the four-wheel drive system, but it was a sensor inside of a motor. It was a convoluted, silly thing that probably should’ve been covered, but the fault came back to a sensor and not that the whole motor had to be replaced. Purchased a used 2008 Ford F-150 with 114,500 miles in September of 2018 alongside a powertrain service contract by AUL for $2100. Engine made unusual noises and tried to stall out on me at low rpm (500-600rpm indicated on tach) after a short towing trip after owning for 8 months and 4000 miles, drove(here is the key to this whole thing right here) to dealership to diagnose. At the time no overheating warnings or check engine codes were showing. Dealership did some tests that involved doing some more towing and backing up with a 4000lb trailer and determined that I had cam phaser isuses. Engine was partially disassembled and it was found that I had scoring on the cam caps and cam journals.
After a very long wait (1 week) AUL finally decided to send out an inspector. Inspector agreed with the dealership that my motor did in fact need to be replaced, a nearly $8000 repair bill for a reman motor or around $6000 for a like and kind used replacement. Instead of authorizing either of those options, they decided that because the truck was operated after damages were suspected that they would only cover $2100 of a motor replacement. The extent of the operation was a .5 mile trip to the dealership. No repairs to my current motor were authorized. After arguing with a representative for around 30 minutes, I gave up on getting any further with them. I understand what this company is now, they'll happily take your money at sale day but when you've crossed your t's and dotted your i's with maintenance and service they will still find a way with petty details to run away with your hard earned cash at the end of the day.
Maybe if I had been a little more diligent with a tow to the dealership I could have won the lottery with this one, you can do 99% of everything right and still get left with a giant bill in the end. Even at a discount of the total price of my plan a $4000 used motor with an unknown history is still hard to swallow, $6000 is just eye watering. So, no thanks for the help AUL, you won't see another penny from me nor any glowing recommendations to anyone I know in the future.

Jeff, thanks for your comments. I'm sorry we were not able to help more with your repairs; however, we do believe it is appropriate according to the engine damage. No one disputes that the engine needs to be replaced, but our position is that the repairs that we authorized would have been sufficient to correct the problem had it been addressed sooner. The amount of scoring and subsequent damage is consistent with continued operation of the vehicle after failure, and the contract does not allow us to cover that.

The sales rep of AUL, Eric, was fantastic. When I bought the truck, it was about 35 sales price so I put $25,000 down, and I got the best extended warranty policy one could get, but I still also had the certified warranty. The first week of owning my truck, the heated seats and the air conditioned seats didn’t work and Eric did a pretty good job in getting that taken care of in a timely manner. He does a really good job of keeping track and wanting to know what was going on.
But I had a disagreement with the man at the back of their office. I told him that the two front seats needed to be replaced and that just replacing the motors wouldn’t be efficient because I’ve ran into the same situation before with these seats, and the seats aren’t working again. I had to call Eric and he said to give it a couple days, and they literally just fixed them and the air conditioner, and maybe that had something to do with it. They’re still not working, but I don’t even wanna bother with it anymore. I can’t afford to have it sitting at GMC for another two and a half weeks.
It’s fine that they used the policy that I paid all that money for, but it was still underneath the dealership warranty. It was the exclusive 90 days, 75,000 miles. If anything goes wrong with the truck, all I do is bring it out there. But they still billed the insurance company that I paid for. So, it’s not like they lost any money on the transaction. But I’ve been happy with everything upfront, with Eric and the way he’s trying to take care of me.

AUL Corp was offered at the dealership and I got the full package which covered mechanical and electrical. The package itself is good but the amount that it's covered is not so much. I wish they would cover more of the parts and actual GM parts or the dealer parts instead of the aftermarket parts.

Chelson, thanks for your comments. While we do authorize manufacturer parts for the vast majority of repairs that we handle, it is sometimes necessary to go with a more cost-effective option. In these cases, we explore our options which sometimes lead us to aftermarket parts; however, you can be assured that your contract will stand behind these parts as long as it is in force.

In the past, I've had problems with vehicles and they weren't covered under warranty. My father used to work for General Motors and we always got extended warranties on a new car. So when I had an opportunity to get one, I got one on a used one. The salesperson at Lou Fusz showed me how much the AUL warranty cost and how I’d really lose a good deal. So she pretty much didn’t have to sell me. I already knew I was gonna get it if it was offered because it just made sense. It covers my Buick GMC up to 200 and something thousand miles and I've used it once. The dealer that did the repair just told me to fax in a copy of my oil changes to a fax number and address them with “Attention: Mark.” The people at the dealer's were very professional.

Christopher, thanks for your review! I am glad we were able to help on your repairs and get you back on the road. We (and Lou Fusz--a great partner) appreciate your business and your trust in us!

I purchased a nice used car and I thought it would be worth it to get an extended warranty for it. I heard that AUL Corp was extremely easy to deal with and very understandable of the situation. They also had a very good price. I looked at other extended warranty providers to make sure that AUL was gonna be the right one and I had a great experience with the rep who sold me the warranty. I happily took their coverage thinking that it would work. Unfortunately, I was proven wrong and I was not happy with my first experience.
I had the vehicle in Florida and I brought it to Toyota of North Miami Beach. When I called prior, the guy at AUL said that I could take the vehicle in then the repair shop would call them and that’d be fine. During the process, Toyota took care of the claim for me. AUL came down to check the vehicle out at Toyota and they refused to cover any of the repairs. The bump itself was preexisting and I wasn’t even trying to get it fixed. It was the opening and Toyota showed them that the motor is going on its own. It was clear from a couple of mechanics that a prior existing nudge on one of my passenger doors has nothing to do with a motor problem in the power sliding doors. The Toyota person was trying to show the fellow that he was making a mistake, but he was not relenting.
I got power doors specifically so it’d be easier with my kids. But I had the car for three weeks and driven it down 20 hours from Maryland to Florida, then I found out about the part that was not working. The vehicle has been around for a few years and it makes sense that sometimes things would go. But that's what AUL Corp was supposed to cover. The extended warranty was a lot of extra money on the purchase of the car and to have my claim go like that is really not okay. I was told that either I pay the $1400 or AUL would cover it, and that was all they could pay. But I don’t have the money to fix the car and I'd appreciate if AUL could relook at the claim for me.

Malkiel, thanks for your comments; although I'm sorry you had a bad experience. Would you provide your contract number, so I can look into your claim?

AUL was sold to me at the dealership and I got it in case anything went wrong. I got the top-of-the-line contract and the rep was good. The only thing that could be improved with the service is when the transmission went out and they didn’t cover a rebuilt like they said. I filed the claim directly with them and they got it done right away, but they only put a junkyard transmission in it which I wasn't happy about. What I paid for the warranty is what they had to put out and expend, so it was equaled out.

I purchased a used vehicle and I thought that it would be wise if I put an extended warranty on it. The car dealer selected AUL Corp as the service contract provider and I was led to believe that my coverage was bumper-to-bumper, not anything cosmetic, but like mechanical and that sort of stuff. I had an emergency when I went to Florida. My brother-in-law passed away. I had to go get his son out of the hospital, and we were rushing to the funeral. That time, my right front wheel bearing seized.
In my highway-charged emotional state, I completely forgot that I had an AUL Corp service contract. I called my auto club, had my car towed to the closest place, and had the issue repaired. I paid for it with my credit card. About a month later though, I remembered that I have a service contract with AUL Corp. I called them and at first, there was a snafu on the paperwork. Some paperwork on the dealer's side, Durango Motors, were not complete. Durango Motors took care of that. They were awesome.
The girl from AUL Corp that I initially spoke to told me that since my situation was an emergency, they could write the whole thing as an unauthorized repair due to an emergency. She told me that they would send me an email with more information, and they did. They then asked me to provide a copy of the bill. I scanned the bill and sent it through email. However, they never got back to me. They didn't even acknowledge that they got my email. I sent them another email asking them to tell me if they have received the copy of my bill since we live in the middle of nowhere and our internet is on satellite. Sometimes, it tells me that the email has been sent, but it actually hasn't. I still didn't get a response. A month later I got a check in the mail. It was 160 bucks. Well, my bill was close to $700. That didn't seem fair to me.
Also, I’ve since sold the vehicle and I’ve been trying to contact them to see if I could get a refund on what was left of the policy since I didn't have a car for a year. I have called and I have spoken to someone three different times. I was told that they'd look into that and then get back to me in a day or so. But then I’ve never gotten a callback or an email. That irritates me. If I'm not entitled to a refund, I’ll deal with that. But to completely ignore me? I was in customer service and food service for 35 years. I’ll blow somebody up who is doing an awesome job. AUL could have gotten back to me 30 minutes later or two days later and go, “I’m sorry. I haven’t contacted you. I was trying to find out the answer to this." Right now, I'm somewhat dissatisfied with AUL Corp. For the way things turned out and being ignored, I probably paid more than I should have.

I acquired a service contract for my vehicle with AUL due to the age of the vehicle. I filed a claim when the car had a bad transmission, but the experience was awful and the situation was uncomfortable for myself. It was horrible dealing with El Dorado Chevrolet in McKinney, the dealership that sold me the contract. The dealer-financier lied to me, then he didn’t turn the paperwork in on time and wouldn’t return my calls. That interaction could have been improved by letting me know and returning my calls. Since we got everything worked out, though, the claim went well. It was just a matter of getting things set up.
It was worthwhile having a service contract with AUL. But you have to make sure that the paperwork has been submitted. When you buy a car from a dealership, you assume that they are gonna do their end of the purchase. But when I filed a claim, the dealership hadn’t submitted the paperwork yet. My satisfaction with the service contract that I received from AUL was medium.

Jeffrey, I'm sorry for your experience with your selling dealer. Sometimes paperwork can fall through the cracks and then delays happen--especially with busy dealerships. I'm glad to see that things did work out, and I'm glad to hear that your experience with AUL was positive.

They picked up my vehicle, brought it to my place & then the next day their claims department helped find a place to fix it & roadside assistance came & had it at AAMCO within 2 hours. They denied my claims and refuse to answer questions. I purchased a used car and the estate coverage contract in mid November. Since then my car is burning through oil. 6 quarts in 1000 miles. Took it to my dealership which sent me to Audi because they weren't equipped to perform an oil consumption test and detected no visible leaks. At this time service agent informed me that I'd just pay the $100 deductible and swing back through when the oil light comes back on or after 750 miles.
Took the car to the Audi service which informed me the PCV valve is aftermarket and must be an original one to perform the test. Due to it not being a failing part, (and he informed me the PCV valve could be responsible for the excessive oil consumption) they denied coverage. I went back and forth with no resolution from my dealer or AUL. The PCV valve is $355.
It's been 5 days now and after getting the runaround from all involved, AUL has also denied to cover the oil consumption test. Which I'm now informed is $160 to start and $160 to inspect after the miles/oil light come on. I've asked for invoices and pricing the entire time while being assured that it would all sort itself when they file claims. I was told I would possibly have to cover the PCV valve myself, so I attempted to communicate with the dealership to come to a fair resolution. (Split the part? Whatever they would agree to. None of that was even an option and they're denying any wrong doing.)
So a "$100" diagnostic is now $675 to me out of pocket and no one is taking responsibility. I was sold this policy by the finance representative at the dealership. I was told every single thing was covered. My dealership is saying AUL isn't cooperating. My sales rep has admitted to knowing nothing about the policies. Their service manager can't give me answers. I also asked if someone could confirm that the PCV valve would not affect coverage when it is complete and we find out where the car is losing oil. Everyone at my dealership has said it’s in their interest to deny claims and that’s ‘how these things work.’
I called AUL which said there were notes of an upcoming tests but that they didn't approve any service on my car. Upon asking if that affects future repairs I did not get any answers either. Today I asked again why neither service was covered and I was given yet another reason, the PCV valve apparently isn't covered because it's emissions related and I wasn't given a real answer about the oil consumption test. Everyone I've spoken to at the dealership is telling me that AUL isn't cooperating and they just can't do anything about it. I paid $4200 for my policy and am pretty sure they will find any way to wiggle out of being responsible for claims.

Good morning, Tatiana. I would be more than happy to review Your claim to see if there was a breakdown in our procedures. Would you please forward your contract number or VIN to me? Thanks.

I purchased an AUL extended warranty on a 2011 Jeep Liberty that I purchased in July 2018. I have had two repair claims since then and AUL has denied both. The first occurred when the weather turned cold and I tried to use the heater for the first time. It blew cold air on the driver side but warm air on the passenger side. I took the vehicle to a Jeep dealer and they diagnosed the problem as a plugged heater core. The service department called AUL which denied the claim saying that a plugged core was not covered, but a leaky core would have been. The repair cost was $1770. The second claim was on March 26, 2019. The check engine light came on so I took it to a Jeep dealer. They diagnosed it as a bad sensor on the fuel evaporation system. They called AUL which said it was not a covered part. It appears AUL will deny every claim they can. I would not recommend getting an extended warranty from them. It will be a waste of your money.

I bought a 2009 Ford F150 in January. I purchased a service contract from AUL from the vehicle at the suggestion of my finance manager. I agreed, thinking it was a smart move considering the age and miles on the vehicle. A Week or so ago, the truck started running rough, and then the check engine light came on, so I brought it to the dealer, to file a claim for whatever repair might be needed. Late last week, I was notified that an AUL inspector was to look at my repairs, seems there were some after market parts used in a previous repair (I had no knowledge of any previous repairs before I bought the vehicle).
Yesterday, I was notified that my claim had been denied, citing excessive sludge in the engine (valvetrain components I do believe), that is what I was told briefly. The repairs are estimated to me at least $3300. The sales team and finance people at my dealership are contacting reps from your company and CNA. In my view, I have done nothing to cause any of these needed repairs, I have barely had the vehicle a few months, put very few miles on it. I just want to understand all this, and find a resolution that doesn't involve me shelling out thousands just to have a working vehicle.

Bill, thanks for reaching out. If you would provide me with your contract number or VIN, I would be happy to look into your claim.

Good morning, Kracker (AKA Eddie). I was able to find your contract in our system, and I see that you have a component-specific contract – meaning a component has to be listed on the contract to be eligible for coverage. The passenger side headlight was lit, but was dimmer than the driver side. The dealer's root-cause analysis was an issue with the wiring and required replacement. AUL denied the claim because it was an 'illumination' problem. The bulb wasn't the problem - it was the wiring. When the clever adjuster told me '..well the wiring is only there because of the bulb...' I hung up the phone - wasting anymore breath on him was going to do no good. I even offered to send him a picture of the bulb burning if he wanted - he declined. When I bought a car from Colonial Nissan, they said that we needed a warranty. AUL Corp is the company that they use so we bought one from them. The service contract was supposed to be bumper-to-bumper, but apparently, it is not. It only includes certain parts and certain conditions. There were incidents with my engine that don't even exist anymore. One of my best friends is a mechanic and everything that the AUL guys told me was shot down by not only my mechanic but three other guys that my friend knows because he researched to make sure that he was correct. Also, their reps were horrible. They were rude and obnoxious. I am not happy at all.
I called AUL and I was flipping out. I threatened to call my attorney and I threatened to drive my car through their front window. They were telling me that there was carbon buildup on my engine from a smudge of grease from the mechanic's glove. But there is no such thing as carbon buildup in cars anymore. It doesn't happen anymore. I got the pictures and I got research but AUL didn't wanna pay for it. Colonial Nissan got them to agree to what they wanted to do and they eventually got my car fixed. It took a month though that I didn't have my car but i was given a rental car. Colonial Nissan was good and they went above and beyond to get everything covered but AUL was horrible. I would never deal with them again.

Felisa, thanks for your comments. I was able to review your claim, and I see that your own mechanic sent us a picture of the carbon buildup on your piston. That is the reason your car was having problems with oil consumption for the past several months, and that is why we initially denied the claim. If you look at your contract, that is an excluded condition. I'm sorry you felt like you were buying a bumper-to-bumper contract. AUL does not offer bumper-to-bumper contracts (no one does), and none of our sales materials imply that we do.
I see that, as you stated, we did cover the repair, but we covered it as a courtesy--not because it should have been a covered repair; again, it was an excluded condition. Every vehicle service contract or warranty has restrictions or exclusions, and we encourage everyone to understand those when they purchase one of our products. We try to be as transparent as possible with our contract language; that's why NONE of our contracts contain "fine print;" in fact, our exclusions section is in bold print.
You still have an active contract, and we will still happily honor the terms of the contract until it expires. And, by the way, thanks for not following through on your threat to drive your car through our front window! We really appreciate it!

We were buying a used car and we wanted to be safe, so we got a service contract for it. We got one from AUL and we also got one for my fiancé’s truck. The truck had some issues and the contract came in handy. AUL came out and looked at the truck while it was at the shop and they told us what they would and wouldn't cover. The repair was very expensive and even if the service contract covered part of it, what we paid was still very expensive. But service contract paid for itself and so I was okay with it. AUL is a good idea for a used vehicle.

Alyssa, thank you so much for your comments. I am glad that we were able to cover at least part of your claim; I know it can be frustrating when you have to come out of pocket for things, so we do try hard to cover what the contract allows--thank you for your understanding. Please enjoy the rest of your day, and have a great week as well!

I retired from the car business after 30 years, and I know a service contract for my vehicle is important. AUL's contract has been good. Plus, my interactions with their rep were fine -- he was a gentleman. When the car's engine went out, AUL took care of it with no problems and I was very happy. I picked my car up and that afternoon the power window went out. I brought it back to the same place that put the engine in and they said they would contact AUL. I have a copy of my policy and it showed that the window was covered. AUL refused the claim and said they won’t spend any more money on the car. That has turned me very sour against AUL. I paid $318 for the window, but all I should’ve paid is the $100 deductible.

Luis, thank you so much for your comments, and I'm glad we could be there for you on your engine claim. Unfortunately, all of our contracts have maximum payout limits, and, unfortunately, your contract has exceeded that limit (see Section 8 under Aggregate Limit). Congratulations on your retirement! Have a great week!

I would give this company no stars. I spent 2600 dollars on a warranty that was supposed to cover everything but wear and tear items. I have had the SUV for 2 1/2 months and opened the sunroof 1 time and it will not close. I called them and was informed that it is not covered. I am pretty sure it is not a wear and tear item. I was also told that if we didn't use the warranty you could get a refund. LOL. What a joke, for 2 1/2 months and no claims they are going to prorate it at 91% with a 50 dollar charge. Just so sad that you can't trust anyone, whether it be the dealer (Cleveland, TN Ford), the salesman, the finance manager, or the warranty companies to tell you the truth.

Good afternoon, Rebecca. I would like to have the chance to look into your claim; can you send me your contract number or last 8 of your VIN? Most of our contracts are parts-specific; meaning that a part must be listed in Section 7 in order to be covered. I would be happy to review that for you. Thanks.
