Great range for the price. Well made. Would prefer it to have a stainless steel top. Ranges no longer come with a supply cord. The oven uses dual elements when using the bake part of the oven. The light is bright. The broiler is typical of all electric stoves and performs as it should. The 4 burner top heating elements are the better kind with more coils and will heat from very low to high. The oven's lowest temperature is a little high at 170 degrees. 125 or 150 to keep something warm would be better.

The GE range and oven came with the house in 1971. I am happy it is still working today. The push buttons get a little dirty, so I wish there was an easy way to clean them. I want an appliance with high quality so it will work for a long time. I do not need expensive accessories. I prefer shopping for an appliance from a reliable local dealer who will perform maintenance and make service calls if they are needed. I prefer a reliable appliance that will perform the functions I need for a long time.

My stove is a flat top stove bought in 1998. It was only $400. I liked the flat top for easy cleaning. The stove is a simple one and I've only had to have the oven element replaced once. However, older ovens had an element you could unplug yourself and replace. With this model, a service person had to replace the element. It has been good. A deal breaker for me would be low quality construction and complicated instructions/buttons. I like simplicity since I don't cook a lot. This stove came with stove top cleaner and a scraper along with instructions on how to clean the top. It's easy to clean, lightweight so it's easy to pull out for cleaning behind it.

Has lasted a long time. Self-cleaning feature died shortly after obtaining. Have had to replace two Calrod elements, a socket assembly, and a burner control (replacement has never worked correctly). My future range will be high quality, but not professional, definitely gas. Would prefer five burners, maybe with grill or griddle top. Self-cleaning with separate broiler. Looking at GE Monogram or LG, possibly Samsung.

We have a GE electric model with 5 burners (can't recall the model #). It came with the new build house we purchased last October. In general, it is a good appliance and gets the job done. The cooktop is flat black glass and is very difficult to clean. We have only been using the range for 4 months. However, thus far it seems to be a good appliance. As I mentioned above, the only issue so far is cleaning the flat black glass cooktop.

GE JGB860DEJWW. I love the middle burner and the placement of the other burners. Only thing that bothers me is one knob is a little stiff. Found it on sale after passing it up the first time. It was too expensive. The sale price was more in line with other ranges of its kind. Expensive for the features it doesn't have. Flimsy knobs, expensive accessories. If it doesn't come with things it should. The GE double oven range had everything I was looking for. It has an oval center burner, comes with a griddle but has the option to purchase the middle grate. Ovens are the perfect size, lower being larger than top. The knobs don't accidentally turn on when brushed up against, easy to clean, nice display, nice alert when timer has one minute left. It's just a great, great appliance.

I trust the GE name and the range was discounted. We bought this particular range because I liked the 5 burners and big oven. That extra burner comes in handy during the holidays. The oven and broiler are one. The only thing I miss is the warmer I had with my former range. I've had the range over 2 years, and believed I paid about $400. Some pluses that makes this my ideal appliance are timer, clock, self-cleaning oven, the fact that I can go from bake to broil and vice versa without removing the dish from the oven.

We installed this hood per instruction manual included in box. At 25" height it is a headbanger. Model says you can put it up to 30" without voiding warranty, etc. At 30" it is a headbanger because of its width and installation instructions to mount at edge of counter. I called GE and they said new instruction manual says it can go up to 36". Skins on chimney do not allow for it to be raised to 36". I asked for new skins and was told they did not have a product change for that. They refused to let me escalate my issue. In order to make the unit work by raising it up to 36" above counter which will void the warranty per all the stickers on the product, I would have to have the stainless steel skins cut down to the appropriate size. I purchased this online from Applianceconnection.com and they are not willing to return my money either because I have exceeded their 30-day window.

GE Cafe Gas Range and 5 yr warranty -- I bought this nearly $3K stove from Home Depot and I regret it more than any other large purchase I've ever made. Oven stopped working 4 months ago. Took tech 3 months to fix it after replacing nearly every possible part and then returning to the first part (assuming it must be defective - which it was) he replaced and ordering another of the same part. He ordered two just to be safe and that was smart b/c the first one didn't work and neither did the second. He put now the 3rd one in and finally the oven heated.

I don't expect an appliance to last forever, but I now have no faith in the manufactured components of GE products. I could go on and on about the poor quality of this oven from the annoyingly loud exhaust fan that constantly blows during oven use and long afterwards to the easily scratched and discolor stainless steel stove top to the uneven heating on and on and on but I'll save you the time and just say "Think twice before buying from this company."

Plastic pretend stainless knob broke on our 8 year old GE Cafe gas range. Range has worked well and is in immaculate shape but this is the second time the plastic knob has broken. We went to get the replacement knob and GE in its wisdom has replaced the part with a new knob which is a smaller in diameter metal knob which "does not fit" the opening for the original knob. I have spoken to the consumer division of GE and even though we spent over $2,500 for this range we were told after 7 years that GE does not have to provide replacement parts anymore. I was told that this is just a "cosmetic" problem and that they have no responsibility concerning it. I was also told that I just needed to put this new replacement knob in the space and it would turn the burner on and that was sufficient enough.

The fact that it would look completely different than the other 5 knobs because it is smaller and leaves a ring of open space around it was not a GE problem. What's worse GE already knows that this is a problem because the specs that come with the new replacement knob tell you right upfront that it is a smaller knob than the one that it is replacing. I informed the consumer representative (who was nice) that I could also use a pair of needle nose pliers to turn the burner on but that was not what I signed up for when I spent that much money on a range. I told the representative that she could send me the replacement knob, I would put it on the stove and take a picture to show her the difference. She informed me that she couldn't just send me the knob that I would have to pay for it but that she would give me a discount. I declined the generous offer. I am going to write corporate now. I will keep you posted.

We purchased GE appliances when we built our home on the almost 2 years ago. We decided to go with GE after doing some research (obviously not enough). We purchased their 5 burner double oven cafe series about a year and 9 months ago. GE only gives 1 year warranty on their products. Sure enough about 5 months ago (end of August beginning of September 2015) the lower oven went.We called GE and they said they would set something up with one of their licensed contracted repair people. They then told us that they wouldn't be able to get one of their contracted service repair people out to our area until JANUARY 2016. We obviously couldn't wait 5 months for them to send someone to fix it. We found a local repairman who came to our house and replaced the ignitor around the middle of October, voila! it was fixed, or so we thought.

We planned to hold our 2nd Thanksgiving in our home with our 2 year old son and our families. 20 people and a 27lb turkey. This Thanksgiving was very special for our family as my father-in-law who was 92 and not in good health was able to make it. In the back of our minds we all knew that this was probably his last Thanksgiving so we all wanted to be together. Well, the night before Thanksgiving as I'm prepping food the oven stops working!!! We Thankfully live down the street from the restaurant that my husband runs, which was now closed for the season. The owners kindly let us cook our turkey and anything else that needed an oven at the restaurant. It was truly such a wonderful thing that the restaurant did but this whole ordeal took time away from our families and most of all my husband's time with his father. Which as it turned out, was his last Thanksgiving.

We called the same repairman again and he said that this shouldn't be happening. We also called a gentleman who works on commercial ovens and he said the same thing. He said we could replace the ignitor again (which was money out of our pocket again) but it may happen again. We called GE again and they told me again that it would be a few months before they could get someone out here to look at it. I finally spoke with GE's consumer advocate. She said she felt my pain etc, that this shouldn't be happening with a product we've had for less than 2 years. Her solution for us... They would repair the stove. They would pay for parts, but we were responsible for finding the person to fix it and we would also be responsible for the labor cost. OR they would give us the same stove valued at $3500 for $1269.

So let me get this straight, We paid $3300 for a product that is less than 2 years old and is defective, doesn't work and if we pay another $1269 we can get the same product. meaning we will have paid over $4500 for an oven? if I wanted to spend $4500 on an oven I would've done that in the first place. I discussed with my husband and we decided that we definitely weren't going to take them up on fixing the lemon or next option, paying $1269 was going to be a real struggle. We decided if they could give us more of a warranty, other than the 1 year they offer on the new oven we would somehow figure out how to come up with that $1269.

We can use the smaller top oven, but it has never worked right. It cooks unevenly and 9 times out of 10 the food is burnt on the bottom. We have a small child. I'd like to be able to cook him hot food that isn't burnt. His birthday is in 2 weeks and I can't bake him a birthday cake. Recently, while trying to use the smaller portion of the oven it has been giving off the smell of bbq lighter fluid!

We were told by the GE consumer advocate that they don't offer extended warranties on their products. So with that, we called one of our repairmen again and his suggestion was to start a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and Attorney General's office. Which is what my husband did. 2 days after his complaint was placed we received a call from someone at GE. She left a message saying she'd like to resolve this instead of going the BBB route. She wanted us to fax copies of our expenses thus far in having the oven worked on. My husband called her back today and she was pretty abrasive. She basically offered us the same deal of paying $1269 for a new oven. My husband told her that wasn't good enough and that he would continue with BBB and AG's office. She said that that was fine, but it would still come back through on her desk and it would be the same offer.

I then went on to their Facebook page to make a complaint, only to see so many other complaints and to see people having the SAME EXACT issue we are having with the SAME EXACT oven. The response from GE on everyone else's complaints were the same, "please email our customer care department" and people being irate that they've already been down that road and have gotten nowhere. So I posted on a lot of the complaints that the customer should contact and put in a complaint with BBB and AG's office. GE did not like that and they deleted my complaint along with my post urging people to file complaints with BBB and AG. They also blocked me so I am no longer able to post to their page.

I feel like we've been robbed and had we agreed to pay the $1269 to get a new oven, the same oven, this might happen again! To see that other people are having the same issue with the same oven tells me that there is a defect with this model. If other people are having the exact same issue with this same model number oven, doesn't that mean there is a defect with this product?

We bought our GE Stove from Home Depot. Brought it home and installed it. After installing the stove, we noticed that there was a smell of gas. We had our gas company come out and check and sure enough we had a leakage in the lower compartment of the oven. We contacted GE and they sent out a tech. The tech informed us that he needed to order a part and the part won't be available until a week later. We called GE to see if they can expedite the repairs because we would be out a week not being able to cook meals. They offered us $50 for our troubles. We kept on complaining so they expedited the order on the parts and scheduled for someone to come out in the next 3 days.

So, on the day of the appointment there is a 3rd party contractor that shows up and assesses the problem. He pulled the stove out and told us pretty much what the GE tech told us. The parts for the stove was already delivered, but the 3rd party contractor said that he was not able to touch the GE parts. WHAT?! Then what are you doing here!!! He said he can't replace any GE parts. So GE sent someone out who was not going to do any repairs, but was only there to appease us because we wanted to expedite the repairs. We spent an entire day waiting for the repair person to come only to have him say he couldn't replace the part. He didn't even have the courtesy of pushing the stove back into its original position. So infuriating. Please, take a look at these reviews. GE doesn't care about their customers at all. Wish I never bought their product. In the future, I will not be purchasing anymore appliances from them.

This incident involves a General Electric ceramic glass top stove. The stoves right front burner got stuck and did not shut down when the burner was turned off. There was three burners and the oven used that night. I cooked peas, corn, greens and a salisbury steak dinner. The three burners were all set at 2, enough just to warm the food and the oven was set at 350. All were turned off once finished, except it seems the right front burner stayed on after it was switch off. It appeared to have stayed on without my knowledge until it woke me up from choking on the toxic smoke. I had my grandchildren all day that day and was exhausted once they left and sat day to eat my dinner and never got to because I fell asleep sitting up on the sofa.

Had I went to bed the disaster would have been deadly. I woke up choking and none of the 7 smoke detectors in the rental house ever went off. I ran to the kitchen in the dark. The smoke was so thick I could not see to even retrieve or find my cell phone to call 911 and it was after 11 pm. My only alternative was to move the stove to unplug it. There was no other way to get to it to go off.

It took me several attempts to get it to even budge, in the process I pulled with all I had (people in desperation can sometimes find more strength than they would normally have), mind you I am handicapped and only have the use of one hand. In those attempts to move the stove with all the force I had I fell into the cabinet and broke my pelvis the first time. The second attempted I made I fell back again and crushed a disk in my back that also crushed a nerve along with it and I am still recovering painfully from that. With two more attempts I was able to move it. I am in and have been in agony ever since that night. I am only 5'2 and weigh only a hundred and fifteen pounds. Upon getting in behind the stove and unplugging it, I also burnt my right shoulder by climbing behind the stove and brushing against the melted microwave and my arm was burnt as well.

The arm now has a burnt scar that isn’t going away. After getting it off I managed to practically crawl out the back door to the patio where I passed out. I awoke around 7 am and was having difficulty breathing and walking. Once I contacted my landlord and GE, she then contacted her insurance company and they came and got the stove and microwave, but it would take me harassing and demanding answers for them all to initiate a proper professional investigation and inspection of both appliances.

This happened July 3rd 2015 and they did not inspect the stove until December 16th. Their inspection claims it was a fire and it was from the right back burner. However it was not, it involved the right front burner. The evidence proves their wrong. First off, the burn pattern of the knobs. They claim the knob from the right front burner (that caused the meltdown) was off, that is true it was.

They claim the back right burner knob was set to medium for which that night it was set at two. But it was off as well to where they claim it wasn’t, however if it had been on medium (it wasn't) but if it had the melting pattern would have been on the opposite side of the knob but it wasn’t... It melted in the off position. And again if it had been on 2 it would not have been hot enough to do the damage it did and the underpinning and back of the microwave under that burner would have been severely damaged, but it was not damaged at all proving it COULD NOT of been the back burner as they claimed.

Secondly, the microwave melted on the front right corner directly under the right front burner and the melting part of the microwave melted directly into the pan of peas. It did not melt directly on the cook top or it would caught fire. Evidence proves and the inspection should have proved the right front and back burner knobs were off. Also had it been a fire as they are claiming the cabinets would have burned. The front right part of the microwave that melted was attached to the cabinets and so snug you couldn’t even slide a piece of paper between the two of them.

The photos, the stove knobs melting patterns and the microwave right front melting pattern and my injuries prove their investigation was flawed, wrong and sabotaged. When the stove was first looked at, it was by a company called Kid Gloves, it's a restoration company. They could have possibly damaged critical evidence. I threw a fit in late July to have it inspected by a professional with fires and an electrical expert. It took GE and the insurance company 5 more months before they would accomplish that. It seems as well that I can't get a straight answer as to where is the microwave? It is a critical piece of evidence.

I purchased a GE gas stove stainless steel with black top. My first complaint is the paint is extremely cheap and looked awful even after a few uses. The biggest complaint is I accidentally broke one of the burner knobs on the stove. While drying a dish it slipped out of my hands, hit the knob and the knob and dish broke. Okay that was completely my fault although if the knob had been metal it wouldn't have broken.

I call GE and tell the story, I said the stove is 2 years old and no longer under the warranty. I would like to purchase a burner knob for replacement. After a couple minutes the customer service rep said, "Yes, we have it would you like to pay with your credit card?" I said, "Yes, but how much is it?" He says, "$75.00 and that includes the shipping". I really thought there had to be a mistake how can a $1.00 piece of plastic cost $75.00 well, it's true. That's what kind of company GE is.

I would rather purchase a product from another company and pay more if I had to than ever doing business with GE. They are terrible business people and obviously do not care about repeat business. I strongly suggest that if you are ready to purchase a GE product DO NOT do it. If I were able to give less than 1 star I would. If they were an upstanding company they would ship this .10 cent piece for $10 or less. Even that's too much. Good luck and stay away from GE. I know I am and have told friends that live in my development who have purchased new gas stoves not to purchase GE and they did not. I wish someone had told me that.

I recently purchased a 20" GE Hotpoint gas range. Fortunately, I tried the oven out before attempting to roast or bake anything in it. I let it run for 25 minutes at 450 degrees. Unfortunately, it emits an extremely sickening odor that has permeated my entire NYC studio apartment. Even though I had opened the windows in the kitchen and the door to the terrace, my nose became stuffy quite quickly and my eyes started to sting a bit. Breathing in the apartment became very unpleasant. I shut the oven off, left the windows and door to the balcony open, and went out for a couple of hours.

When I returned, the smell was still evident but a little less so. But it had permeated all cloth that was out in the open: my upholstery, bedding, etc. and probably the walls and hardwood floor as well. I tried turning on the exhaust but it is emitting that bad smell also. I hope buying a new screen will fix the exhaust. But what about the stove? I can't go through any more trial runs again. I am quite disgusted with GE for foisting such a problematic product on consumers. The smell must have been evident early on but still, GE is selling this stove with an oven that emits a sickening odor. I now have a stove with which I can only use the top burners.

We have a 10 year-old GE Monogram dual fuel range, model number ZDP48 - something. It's a 48" range, with 2 ovens, 6 burners, and a built-in griddle. The list price on a new range of this style is roughly $9800.00. It stopped working due to a failed component. Rather than support it, GE has recommended that I throw it out and buy a new one.

The entire range stopped working, due to a failed hot wire relay, part# WB21X5362. This is a $179.00 part, however GE no longer stocks it. Nor is this part available anywhere in the world, except for from one jerk on eBay who appears to have cornered the market and is charging $650.00 each for them. I contacted GE looking for substitute parts, and they said they could not help me. I contact GE again, asking for the specifications of the part so I could source an alternative myself. Again, they refused to provide any information. GE suggested that I buy a new range.

I'm sickened and disgusted that this very large, very durable, nearly commercial-grade range is now completely dead in the water because its manufacturer refuses to support it, only 10 years into its lifespan. I expect to own and operate this range for 20+ years. I'm also disturbed and alarmed that GE would recommend throwing away and replacing such a large piece of equipment. Doesn't GE have any environmental sensitivity at all??? What is the impact on natural resources, global warming, etc if all their customers were to do this every time something breaks? Is GE so interested in selling the next appliance that they are telling customers to just throw out the old ones??

HA! I had 4 techs come to the house over a 2 year period after I bought the first because the broiler would turn off in the middle of cooking and ruined the meat because it "baked" in the residual heat. The first 3 couldn't find the problem with the broiler. The manual says, "Be sure door is shut." The last tech told me to keep the door ajar which I did and the broiler stayed on. The manual also said to put the exhaust fan on when flaming on stove top. I did so and the flames were exhausted though the fan and destroyed it. I wrote to GE CEO and told him to have the manuals changed accordingly on both items and it was not done.

Well, the new GE model has same broiler issue and manual has exact wording about the door and the exhaust while flaming on stove top. I'm furious and wrote another letter to CEO and enclosed the original. Waiting to hear. Someone will have severe damage if exhausting while flaming and, like me, will have broiled foods ruined if they leave the door closed.

It took almost an hour to get all the glass cleaned up along with all the pots and pans covered with glass in the cabinet next to it. This was only the front glass. It is frustrating. The helpline is not open on Sunday.

Purchased in 2013, the oven liner began blistering in in August 2015. Having purchased an extended warranty with Lowe's, I placed a service call. 2 different technicians inspected the oven and was told it was the ceramic liner blistering and peeling. I was informed by Lowe's it was 'cosmetic' and not covered. I called GE and they had a repairman come over who reported it was stained due to heavy use. Interesting how the GE tech came up with a completely different answer. How can blistering, bubbling, molten ceramic be considered a heavy stain? I will never buy GE appliances again, nor will I purchase from Lowe's (Sears extended warranty covers 'cosmetic' issues).

On their turn, GE transfers the complaint to KCL, another company. When I called KCL, the person there said that his car is in the garage and he cannot come over till he gets his car back!! More than a week now, still cannot cook on a brand new GE stove worth $3,000! Is this what GE has come to? Tells me that if you have a problem with a GE appliances you are on your own.

First let me say that I purchased this range in 2009. I always mentioned to my husband that I am very uneasy and concerned about how hot it gets when the self-cleaner is on both to the touch and the wall behind it. I can imagine the cabinet are also very hot. I note that there have been numerous fires with GE ranges on this Consumer Affairs website and the Internet. Also, the current problem I have is as follows. I set the self-cleaner to clean both ovens. Upon opening the top oven door, I noted that the paint is severely peeled/chipped on the door and just inside the front of the oven body. THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE PRODUCT. We can no longer use this oven as the paint is like pixie dust (chipped/peeled) to the touch and we are afraid that when we cook it will get into the food. This range is no longer convenient because we now have to use the bottom oven which is much larger, costly and unnecessary for smaller everyday items.

I understand from a representative at Hancock TV & Appliance in Quincy, MA which is where we purchased the oven that GE does not cover this. THAT is just WRONG. The product should be recalled for the chipping and most likely for the overheating as well. I plan to take this further and maybe this is a conversation to be had with the local news media if we do not get any satisfaction from GE. We currently have all GE Stainless Steel Profile appliances in our kitchen. We always follow the manufacturer's instructions when self-cleaning as we have the booklet in a drawer next to our stove. I look forward to a swift resolution.

I purchased my GE Profile Electric Range in 2010. Initially the stove exhibited error messages such as F17 etc. I called for service and it was fixed. The motherboard had to be replaced. Then I had problems with the stove once it was cleaned. The stove would not unlatch. Once again I called and it was fixed. Once my extended warranty expired the main burner used for boiling and the burner most commonly used would only set to the highest heat such as 10 and become red hot even if it was on 2. Once again I called, this time I was offered a 25% discount on parts. My opinion is the quality of the stove is in question. 4 or 5 service calls in 5 years is too much. I am not fixing the stove at this point and would not purchase any GE appliance going forward.

The GE Profile gas cooktops have a design defect in that regardless of where you place the pots, heat is directed back toward the console weakening (and ultimately melting) the plastic sheaths for the control knobs. What is worse, GE clearly knows this and is charging between 45 and 65 dollars per replacement knob. I have replaced every one of the five knobs once and 3 of them need to be replaced again. They do not make a knob with a metal sheath. I would be willing to bet that they have generated as much revenue on selling the replacement knobs as they have on the cooktops themselves. Add that to the fact that six months after my warranty expired, the spark ignition module now needs to be replaced. My GE Profile refrigerator has likewise had problems. I'm sure the Monogram double ovens we bought are not far behind. Lesson: Avoid GE appliances like the plague.

Problem #1 - It was bad enough that the range I purchased was faulty. Not even purchased a year ago, it was hardly ever used (I BBQ more), when one day I noticed the window display for the time was black. I just thought the display was bad but soon realized the panel itself didn't work, the oven would not turn on. The burners on the stove worked so the problem appeared to be an issue with a part(s) associated with the oven. Ok, so sometimes machines break. It happens, sometimes. It was HOW GE handles the issue that is inexcusable. Here is the many 'service related issues' arising out of the one issue of a faulty part.. A service technician was dispatched to the home 6.12.15.

Problem #2 - The technician. The issue was explained to the technician as 'intermittent' in that sometimes the time was displayed and at other times the display was black. This would be random at least once a day, sometimes the display was out for days. We first thought it may be a power issue but soon realized that although there was no power to the oven, the stove had power. After the explanation, the technician was convinced it wasn't the appliance at all and it was an FPL (electric co.) matter. (???).

Once again... the issue was explained, now more slowly, the display on the oven and oven did not work at times, yet while the oven didn't work, the stove did. Thus while one part of the appliance did not work, the other part worked... ruling out the theory of a power outage which would affect the entire appliance and not one area of the appliance. He finally relented stating the range needed a part and he would order it and be back next week. He didn't give me any paperwork and ran out the door. (Again, that was on Friday 6.12.15)

Today, Tuesday 6.23.15 at about 3 pm an automated customer service call comes in to announce the technician was on his way. Great. Now they tell me I have an appointment and it's right now. I wasn't even HOME! I drop everything to race home frantic not to miss this non appointment, 'appointment'. Within 5 minutes of arriving myself, a knock at the door. The service technician rushes in "Where's the part?" I didn't even know we had an appointment today. His response was "I told you last week I would be here today." You told me you would be back sometime next week but never stated a date or time.

There is no part. I didn't even know you would be shipping the part directly to me. My gf asked "How was it being shipped?" FEDEX. My girlfriend explained that a box did arrive by FEDEX but it only had the building # but not apartment #, and also it was addressed to someone else, so she flagged down the FEDEX truck and returned it. The technician ran out the door, "I'll order another part!".

An appliance with a faulty part. A Technician with no communication skills. At least if a technician cant communicate verbally, he should leave some kind of paperwork at what the next step(s) will be. Let the customer know the part will be shipped to him/her so they know at very least to expect a package. When the next appointment will be, etc. No communication between company - technician - consumer. If this was the part, who the heck ordered the part without the correct address or name? Why didn't anyone confirm anything? GE needs to hire someone to come in and revamp the service dept.

Was having problems with breakers throwing. Then noticed this happened when I used my GE Stove. Started having problems with the stove, burners going on high when it was on simmer, burning food etc. Then one burner came on and wouldn't go off. Had to turn it off at the breaker. I hadn't even turned this eye on, it just did so itself. Now all burners are not working correctly. The appliance is 4 years old. Called an electrician, who contacted an electrical inspector, because he had never seen anything like it. When I had my burners on, I had surges in my breaker box at several points. When I turned the oven on, the readings were going off the chart, then going down, bouncing back up, etc.

When we pulled the stove out away from the wall, I had a spot of black soot on my wall. When the electrician removed the back covered, he discovered melted/browned insulation around some wires, and there was black soot on one of the wires. That was enough for me. Going for a new stove, and it won't be a GE ceramic top, and maybe a different brand all together. By the way, my GE refrigerator has problems too. What has happened to GE??? Are they accountable for faulty appliances?

First meal I made was Christmas dinner and while roasting a small turkey the convection fan started making so much noise. The guests came into the kitchen to see what happened. A repairman was sent out and he said I didn't see anything wrong with, could be the metal expanding and contracting at high temps. Now a few months later the cooktop is scratching or cracking over the two front elements.

To top that off, the cleaning kit they sent with the stove damaged the cooktop, taking off the finish and leaving a lighter colored spot in the glass when I was cleaning off a piece of burned on rice. The cooktop material is apparently substandard and I am concerned it will eventually cause a fire. Have emailed my complaint to GE and waiting for a reply.

I am the new owner of a home which I purchased from a friend. He had his home and kitchen updated and in the process bought 6 new appliances and also purchased the 5-year extended warranty (3/19/2013) all from Home Depot. The day after I closed on my new house I got out all the manuals and one by one started to read to better familiarize myself with how all the new appliances worked. When I got to the GE 30-in. slide-in convection range (Model-JSP46SP3SS) mentioned above, I took the racks out and followed the simple instructions and pressed the self-cleaning cycle. The oven was clean with nothing in it-I wanted to test the cycle more than anything.

Within 7 minutes of being in self clean mode, the range started to smoke from the front left side of the vent above the oven handle and my home began to fill with smoke, that nauseous burning wire/electronics smell that takes your breath away, lingers for days. After getting the windows opened, I called 911 and within 5 minutes they were here, pulled me out of the house and carried the smoking oven/range out the door and into my backyard. Smoke and that smell lingered for 2 days. The fire report listed the stove as being overheated and because we could not get the door open we could not see what was going on inside the oven. They said it was a total loss due to a mechanical failure. The next day I called a very good and well respected Electric Co. in Ft. Lauderdale and they sent out an electrician to make sure my system and connections were all good-they found all was good.

My friend, who owned the home, came over frantic and just so distraught that this would happen to us. He said rest-assured I bought the 5 year extended warranty on all the kitchen appliances and the range is covered-just call Home Depot. Well... a week later, after going to the Home Depot store, talking to the store manager and other faceless people on the phone I got the back and forth and the pass off as my GE Convection oven sits in my backyard covered with plastic. No one has offered to come look at it for service or anything and it is under a 5-year extended warranty plan. I finally was told to call this 800 number-the company who holds all extended warranties for Home Depot-Asurion Insurance. (Beware) This is where that extra money you spent to purchase some solitude that God forbid something catastrophic happened -you're covered.

Well... the very "word twisting" phone answerer ** (anonymous) who went back and forth with the underwriter, point blank told me, that because I called the fire department and said "fire," ( I did not see flames I saw smoke, a lot of it and arching in the computer panel which burned out) my loss was not covered by the 5 year extended plan on my oven. He could not help me... he said, "the extended warranty is for normal wear and tear." So I have a report from the Ft. Lauderdale Fire Department and an electrician who when he opened the back of the oven he could see charring near a wire that started the whole thing. What to do!? No oven, no cooking in my new home. I will never buy a GE appliance or shop at Home Depot again... and beware (read it, ask questions) of those extended warranties we pay so much for thinking we will be covered in times like these. Not true in our case. Signed, Kitchen Without an Oven.

Sure enough, there was no ignition until I turned the knob to the full open position, at which time I heard the 'snap' of the igniter, and the flame appeared. When I came home and opened your site on my PC, I found other similar complaints with newer models of GE gas ranges, and realized that this is a serious problem. The oven is heating now but the cooling fan isn't coming on. He replaced two switches but still no cooling fan. He kept questioning me on the cooling fan so I decided to call GE to find out exactly how that fan was supposed to work and was told it comes on right away.

Now repairman says GE technician told him cooling fan only comes on when the oven heats to 450 degrees. I know that's incorrect or it wasn't working right from new then. Repairman says he's more inclined to believe the technician than the fellow I talked to (and me obviously) about how it used to work. I then told him if he gave me "in writing" that he or GE will cover the cost of fried electronics I would gladly try using this oven because I am going crazy for over 3 months without an oven. This was a very expensive stove now with nearly $1000 into repairs and still not fixed and have no clue what is going to be done to resolve this issue because now I'm waiting to hear back from a repairman who is talking to a technician who have no clue what to try next.

By the time it arrived it was the end of Dec that my (licensed) gas fitter (of 30 years) came to convert it to propane and hook it up. It was found to leak in the main regulator of the stove. He stopped work and reported to me that the stove was defective. The local GE technician was called and came to look at and fix it under warranty. He claimed that it did not leak and never did. He left.

That evening, I came home from work to a house full of gas. Thankfully my 2 dogs were elsewhere that day, or I would have come home to 2 dead dogs, and perhaps worse, an explosion or fire! It took several hours to clear out the gas from my home. This stove was returned to Home Depot. Its replacement was delivered last week. Yesterday the gas fitter came again to hook up the stove. Guess what! The main regulator leaked, plus the back left burner did not light.

Sure, I have a refund, but after more than 2 months, still no stove. They claim this has never happened before. Home Depot suggested I purchase a stove somewhere else, as they only sold GE in my price range, and I refused to purchase anything by GE again! My worry is: how many other folks have this stove in their home and are living with a gas leak and not know it!!! I think GE should be held accountable for incompetence and I would like to be assured that no one else should be in danger. Thank you.

Our 4-year old GE Profile Gas Range, model PGB918SEM4SS has performed reliably until I accidentally spilled about a quart of water on the cook top (was trying to add it to a pot, got distracted and missed!). Cooktops are designed to handle spills, right? Not this one, even though the burners are supposedly sealed. A loud snap and bright flash occurred immediately. And the circuit breaker blew. It would not reset until I unplugged the range.

The repair tech diagnosed the problem as the gas valve circuit board under the cooktop, near the front center. This board, he said, is tied into the oven self cleaning system. He reasoned that the water spill flooded one of several switches. The board is sort of submerged in insulation that was damp. Drying it with a hair dryer did nothing. Damn expensive board, too. The design permits water to get below the sealed burners and cause a short! 50 lashes for the designer.

The first time he said too much gas was coming in and supposedly adjusted it. It still smelled like gas. We had them come several more times, and they replaced a pipe that runs along where it lights up and also supposedly adjusted the gas coming in; however no change in gas smell. We finally had the gas company come and they told us we were not in danger, as it was "burned gas", which smells just like a gas leak. He also told us it was "over firing", which was causing the smell of burned gas. The gas company also checked to see if the gas coming in could be adjusted but said that it could not be adjusted.

So what was GE doing on those occasions? Nothing! We had GE come several more times, and they said the smell was normal. We then had someone from Home Depot come, and he acknowledged the smell and said the gas cannot be adjusted coming into the range when preheating. We have not heard back from them. GE closed our case, stating nothing was wrong. I can smell gas in the house for 40 minutes after preheating, but supposedly our house will not blow up and we will not die from it, so apparently we have to live with this smell every time we preheat the oven.

This was one issue: I went to turn my front power boil jet on and it went poof and ignited under the burner where it should be sealed, it does not sit properly as all the others. I can't believe that it did that. This particular burner never sat flush since it was delivered but was told that is the way it sits but no way not after this just happened. And it's a commercial home stove/oven. Quite expensive plus I use it a lot. Need it fixed. They sent me NEW burners and it sat better. Then the next issue was the rings around the gas dials melted, they sent new ones. When the upper oven is on, you get a 2nd degree burn if you touch the controls. Now the lower oven won't ignite. The temp in ovens don't match up ever!! Cooks unevenly. I wish I never bought this!! I feel this series is nothing but a LEMON!

Do not purchase GE products. They are remiss in honoring warranties. In March of this year I purchased a GE Smooth Top Range. Similar to other accounts I read on this site, I experienced the popping "arc" sounds as others described. Unfortunately, I thought it was just the nature of the rapid heating element. On September 8 my husband walked into the kitchen and flames were shooting from behind the Power Boil control knob. THE STOVE WAS NOT ON! He put the fire out with kitchen towels.

I found my consumer manual, called GE and they sent out a technician. After this, the situation becomes unbelievable. When the technician finished, he told me it was obvious it was not started from cooking. A lot of calls were happening in between including a case # being assigned by a consumer relations person. After several calls back and forth, the person tells me she received conflicting reports. I was in shock. It seems the technician LIED to us or the Engineers changed his report. He even said the engineering department asked him if he was sure it was not a cooking fire and he said he told them he was sure.

I was informed that the warranty is not being honored! After this shock I called our local county Fire Marshal who informed us that it was obvious that it was not a cooking fire, no grease or food residue...a dry fire. I also attempted to involve HH Gregg, where I purchased the range. I received one return phone call and have left other messages to no avail. The good side to this is the privilege of working with State Farm Agency...they have been wonderful in assisting with a resolve. Believe it or not, they offered me a discount on a new GE range!

In 2011, about 700 new black GE base model electric ranges were installed in a large apartment complex in Houston. The ranges looked good and worked well for the first year but by late 2012, the one in my apartment began making sparking sounds that came from behind the unit when the contacts would engage for both the oven and the large electric coil burners. The sound was nearly identical to when I arc weld with rods. By late 2013, the temperature settings on the large coil burners began to fluctuate substantially at random intervals and did not follow the setting on the dials. This led to slightly burnt food, ruined meals and several emergencies with a smoke-filled apartment.

By August 2014, the temperature fluctuation had become so extreme it caused two small stove top fires, cracked a heavy cast iron skillet and ruined nearly $100 of food. As of this writing, I must constantly pick the pans up to visually inspect the coils to see if they are glowing red as the dials no longer accurately control coil temperature. Changing the large burners out and even switching them had no effect. The problem seems to be control-based and occurs most often when the dial moved after a coil is already hot. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? It would be bad enough in a home but in a large apartment complex, it could be deadly. Does anyone know if there is a recall for this specific issue?

I bought a new GE glass top range 5 years ago for a mountain cabin that we visit 1 or 2 weeks out of the year. The cabin has narrow doors so we had to remove one door to get the old range out and put the new GE range in. The new range was rarely used and is in like new condition - there is not a scratch or ding on it. Last night I cooked dinner on it using all 4 top elements. After cooking I turned all the switches to the off position and the "burner on" light went off as usual. While eating I kept smelling something burning so I investigated and found the two large burners glowing white hot even though the switches were in the off position. I made numerous attempts switching dials to the off position but without effect as the burners continued to glow white hot. So as not to burn the unit up I flipped the breaker off to kill the power to the stove.

In the morning I switched the power on and both large burners are completely dead. The two small burners still work. I called GE and they of course said there was nothing they could do as the warranty had expired - because it is in such a remote area no repairmen will come. Now I am stuck with a defective unsafe Range that looks brand new. GE customer service says to just go buy a new range. I guess I will have to, but it definitely wont be from GE. This is not the first GE appliance I have had cause me thousands of dollars because of being defective, but it is definitely the last. Updated review: April 26, 2014

This past Wednesday 4/23/2014 I received a visit from the General Electric senior tech who informed me that he suffers from allergies but no need to worry he said because he had his trusted gas detector gadget with him. As soon as he turned on the main gas valve, waited a couple of minutes for the gas to flow into the appliance, opened the door (turned off leaky oven) and shoved the gadget in there, the gadget went haywire making an annoying sound that indicated what we already knew. The appliance is leaking gas.

He told me to "quick" go open a window and I ran and opened the patio door.
He diagnosed the problem as being a faulty security valve which is not supposed to open while the oven is off like it is. I have to wait another week for the part to be ordered and a revisit for the repair.

You would think that I would be showered with apologies from the consumer claims department and my case manager. I Got an update call from my case manager, Michelle, yesterday, it was apparent that she suffers from a case of lack of sympathy.

She started dodging my question about the fact that they should be concerned that their first tech reported to their company that there was nothing wrong with my stove, when he had clearly acknowledged that my oven smelled of gas when he first got to my house at the beginning of the appointment on 4/16/2014. She challenged me by asking why I had said that the tech lied. I explained that he admitted that he smelled gas to me then attempted to fix the appliance and it seemed that when he couldn't fix it he changed his diagnosis and said he didn't smell anything and when he sent in his notes to his superior he never mentioned all that he did to fix the leak, including bubble tests and tightening nuts inside the back panel.

I reminded her that no matter how they put it the fact still stands my appliance was misdiagnosed by their first tech, or he lied to them, his employer. It was now documented that the appliance has a very serious leak problem as diagnosed by their senior tech who had the proper tools on his visit 4/23/2014.

If anyone wonders how strong the smell is, you don't need any tools to pick up the smell. Think about it, the safety valve is broken. That means when the oven is off and gas is allowed to flow in it, there is nothing to stop it from filling up the oven and then it spills out and your entire home gets filled with gas.

BUT, if as soon as the main valve is opened if you turn the oven on and allow it to burn then the likely hood of smelling it is small. But of course, when you turn the oven off then the gas will continue to flow being that the valve is broken.

This is the reason why the first tech (did smell the gas at first) didn't smell the gas the second time he opened the main valve, because he also turned the oven on and the gas was being burned. The question is why did he do that? He wasn't there to test the oven for leaks while it's on. He was there to test for leaks while it's off. He didn't want to wait for the oven to cool and fill up with gas again either because as he stated he had other appointments to go to.

So my question to my case manager, Michele, is why did he, Louis, the first less experienced tech, report the appliance as being in no need of repair but meanwhile he turned off my main valve before he left? I told her most of his behavior during the last half of the visit was tense and strange and of concern and I insist on filing a complaint.

Because he reported my appliance being "in working order" the reps that I called for help kept insisting that my appliance needed no repair and were condescending and gave me a hard time.

The senior tech suggested that maybe Louis also suffered from allergies and couldn't smell it. There are two problems with that. Firstly, I'm going blue in the face saying he admitted at first that he smelled it and he proceeded to "fix" it. Secondly, if allergies were to blame, why didn't Louis have his proper gas detecting tools with him as the second (senior) tech (on the second visit) did? He didn't have his own soapy bubbling liquid either, which I provided the alternative with a sponge soaked in soap, per his request.

How seriously did he take my gas leak problem? Why isn't General Electric concerned about this and they keep making excuses?

The fact that my appliance got red tagged and shut off by my gas company right after their tech Louis left, didn't impress General Electric. The fact that their senior tech a week later confirmed it with an alarming diagnosis didn't even get me an apology.

I'll be updating again after the repair next week. This is the third week I'm without a working stove in a home with persons that have dietary restrictions not to mention the time off work without pay or wasted vacation days on this situation.

    Original Review: April 18, 2014

I purchased this as soon as it became available at the end of August. This is a $3,000 stove. I had it delivered around end of October due to the fact that my home was still under renovations. I didn't get it hooked for a couple more months. So it's been really a few months the most that I've been giving it light use as I've just recently gotten my cabinets and even now the backsplash is halfway done but it is the last thing and then we're done. On Saturday this past Saturday, the taping, I started feeling dizzy and then I realized there was a smell of gas. I quickly opened the patio door and called my husband.

He came downstairs and without me saying a word he says that he smells gas. We look over the stove and everything is turned to off. But something told me to open the oven door and a big strong waft of gas hit my face. I panic and both my husband and I pull out the range and turn off the valve on the wall to keep it from feeding gas to my now leaky brand new expensive range. Later on, we were trying to put the stove (only connected to electricity) on lock and it would not do it. Rather it beeped fast two times and would not lock. I tested all the other buttons on the panel and it still did the same thing. We tried it again a few hours later and now it was locking fine and wasn't doing the fast two beeps with any of the other buttons anymore either. I thought maybe the gas leak fixed itself too but I did not chance it and left my main valve off as it was. This was Saturday.

I called Sunday or Monday, can't recall to set up an appointment for GE to come over. I had to speak to two different reps as the first one h/u on me as I waited for a manager because she insisted it was a leak at my own pipe. I never told her that and she can't possibly know what the problem is more than myself. I set up an appt for Tuesday 4/15/2014. Tuesday came and I received a message that my appointment had been canceled and they voluntarily rescheduled me for Wednesday .

I had such a hard time making arrangements with my employer that I was very annoyed and upset. I called the number and the automated system offered me the coming Friday appt but when I went to choose it, it said it couldn't and it transferred me to a rep who said her system was down and couldn't do it. I tried after work and now the appt slot was no longer available. I spent Wednesday morning disputing this until I gave up and instead had better luck approving a day off that same day to wait for the GE tech. The GE tech shows up on time. His name is Louis. The first thing he says when he enters my home is that why I don't have a GE refrigerator. He later explains that he hasn't made his sales and that he's supposed to sell filters on these service calls.

I explained everything I wrote above. I encouraged him to smell the oven so that he can see that while my main valve is off the oven smells clear. He then opens the valve on my wall and immediately the smell started to fill the oven. He acknowledged this. We're having a good rapport and he proceeds to take the back panel off and explains that's where everything is controlled from. He boasts about having 100% rating on his services except for some lady he did not explain. I told him I'm a tough but fair customer in that I don't like shoddy work and especially when it comes to something serious like this I expect it to be resolved. He promises to not leave until it is resolved and says that if it comes to that he will relay it to a senior tech and if it needs to the appliance will be taken away to be studied. I mentioned that it seems like a good idea in case there needs to be a recall.

He begins by asking me for a soapy sponge and rules out leakage at the connectors in the back of the stove and my flexible line. I told him I was sure it wasn't coming from there but figured he'd get to the root of the problem and I appreciated him making sure. Then he continues to take off the back panel. So he says he discovered that two lines that feed the stove are a bit loose and he tightens them. Then he turns on the valve again and instead of smelling for gas again he turns the oven and range on and I tell him there was never a problem with it turning on. So now the oven is hot. I tell him to turn it off to see if it is still building up gas in there as before and I notice that the smell is coming back. He says He only smells "warm."

I tell him you can't smell warm, warm is something you feel. I suggested that the problem is possibly a bit deeper in the stove, where ever the controls tell the gas to flow. It must be open without the control sending the message to turn on. He says that the control pad doesn't control the opening and shutting. I ask him so what does? It can't be telekinesis my brain doing it and then he says nothing does. I started to think that this guy possibly was not trained on this brand new model and was afraid to admit it and tarnish his record that he boasts about. I'm dubious about any record being that good with what I'm experiencing from him then and there.

He then asks what time is it, I tell him 2pm and he mentions that he has 4 more appointments up on the west side. I tell him that he shouldn't go until he fixes it and then he stands around like he doesn't know what to do and says he doesn't smell anything. I start getting annoyed and ask him about the senior tech that he mentioned before. He goes outside and is talking on his cell phone I don't know to whom or about what and he comes back and says that next Wednesday a senior tech will visit me. Then he starts on the filters again and shoves his head in my samsung refrigerator. I let him take my filter out and he finds out they are very different than GE filters so no sale. And he goes off.

How surprised am I when I call GE an hour later and they tell me that the Louis', the techs notations read that the senior tech is going to visit me because "the customer requested a second opinion". He didn't even mention that he opened the back of my stove or the gas he smelled. The only thing they said he wrote is that he found the stove to be working fine. That is not what the visit was for and that is not what happened. I was so upset I demanded to file a complaint. Feeling devastated and now this tech made it even worse by making it look like I was a hypochondriac. For whatever reason he withheld information, I don't care but I do care that he did that at my safety's expense.

Thinking that I now have to take time off work to meet another tech next Wednesday I proceeded to drive to work to conserve half day and use it then. I parked and made one last phone call to con edison, my gas company and when I told them the story they didn't care that I had turned off the main valve. They informed me that it had to be reported and that someone was going to be at my door step and if I wasn't there to let them in they would call the fire dept and break my gates and door. I shot out in my car back home again to let them in.

When I got there a con ed gas company tech was waiting there just as they said with a large box meter of some sort. He came in, examined the stove/oven without turning it on, he smelled the oven and said oh yeah, that's not good. I had to leave him alone inside my house while I went back out and parked my car correctly. When I came back, he tells me I'm sorry but you cannot use this stove I'm putting a red tag on it and he said that he went on the back of the stove and turned off (not my wall valve) but the APPLIANCE'S valve. He said that he needed to do that to make sure I don't use that stove until it gets repaired. I told him that of course I wouldn't use it. I told him the story about the GE tech and the gas company guy kept shaking his head and said he could not believe it.

So basically to summarize an already long drawn out complaint GE and their tech put me and my family in danger and made it difficult for me to get the proper attention from the GE customer service reps because he did not document the truth about what he found in my home, that yes, my appliance is defective and HE didn't know how to fix it. The customer service reps kept throwing it my face that "their tech said everything was fine" they wouldn't listen or give me any help until I called them up even angrier and told them about almost getting my door busted in by the fire department If I had not returned home to let the inspectors in.

Today Danielle called from GE to follow up on "my complaint" and again I was hit with the same song and dance about "what their tech said" that my appliance was fine. I told her that it seems that my account has not been updated correctly when I call. I had already told them about the gas company shutting down the appliance. I threatened them with the BBB, writing to the attorney general and my congressman If they didn't move on to getting me some help. I told them at this time the right thing to do is replace my appliance so that at least I can hope mine was the only lemon. I reminded the caller Danielle that Con Edison themselves said the stove is leaking and she, Danielle from GE, dares to ask me if I have documentation.

I was beyond annoyed. I told her I had already given them the ticket number and con ed's 800 number. I told her I can send her a copy of the red tag. She promised to email me the information of my case worker so that I can reply with an attachment. I key spelled my email about three times but OF COURSE, I would find out later that I didn't get the email because she wrote it wrong. So luckily I got someone else on the line with another call and got them to correct it.

At this point I don't trust any of their workers, especially the techs. My family's life was put in danger not once but twice with my house filling up with gas and the second time was under the so called expert opinion of their techs. Let's not forget the gas leak that went ignored in Manhattan just weeks ago that flattened two buildings. It's not just my family it's my neighbors too, I'm responsible for keeping us safe. I cannot do that while keeping this defective stove. The proper thing to do is replace it and haul this one away so that they can also inform everyone that bought one of these ranges know if they too should return theirs.

GE Profile Spectra XL44 - I have had this unit for 13 years without any problems. I loved this range but it is too costly to fix. I was experiencing back-drafts which is very scary since you never know when or if it will happen. I was fortunate enough to have an amazing repair guy who actually figured it out while on the phone when I was telling him what was happening. When he got here and looked at it he knew what to do to make it do it for him. It is the gas control valve. I have chosen to just replace my unit rather than repair but overall I have been very satisfied with this unit.

I bought this stove at Sears for a second home when I renovated the kitchen. Three workers who were doing installations accidentally turned on a gas burner when they were near the stove and gas filled the room. I also turned on the same burner when I was cooking on this stove. Sears sent out a repair person who 'fixed' it under the extended warranty. It was not 'fixed' since the problem is defective design and the burner malfunctioned again. I was able to return it under the extended warranty, but took a real loss. No one refunds the $250 you paid for the extended warranty, and I had to arrange for the gas to be disconnected and reconnected at my own cost. This is unacceptable. Like GM, GE is undermining its credibility with consumers. Will someone have to die before they fix this problem?

I called GE and they sent new grates but those new ones are doing the same thing. I called again GE and told me that they would again send more grates. I didn't take the extended warranty out so when the year warranty that comes with the stove is up I will have to start paying for new grates. It looks like an old stove. The stove we had for 19 yrs looked better than this one. Some of our other appliances will have to be replaced soon but for sure won't be a GE. It seems like GE doesn't care. If General Electric had the appliances made here in the US than Mexico or wherever, they would have a better product.

Fire has been shooting out like a backdraft when I turn on low/high broil. I have complained to no end. It never happens when the repair guy is here so they just don't believe me..I guess. Finally Monday night the fire hit my face and chest and singed my hair and my pj top. I have missed lots of work and it's been stressful. I have not been able to use my stove a full week since last summer when the problems begin. Now they want the repair guy to come back and turn that oven on. No I am too afraid. I HAVE BEEN MORE THAN FAIR. My family has been put in harms way and I will not stop until GE makes it right. I will start a class action suit if anyone will follow me. I posted the pic. I just purchased this range (1 of 4 GE appliances purchased) and it was installed this past week. I know it's not a top of the line cooktop but I still expect an appliance that costs in excess of $500 to be put together well. The range is very "cheesy" compared to a similar GE range that I purchased 23 years ago. It's just flimsily made. The bottom drawer doesn't fit properly so that it looks cocked when closed and there's no way to adjust it. It's kind of like looking at a crooked picture hanging on the wall and it drives me nuts.

I'm just really not satisfied with the quality of the range housing. I have not yet used the oven; however, the burners seem to work very well. I think GE needs to take into consideration that not all consumers want/need a high-dollar cooktop range. Their older products were of far better quality. The only reason I'm rating the range with 3 stars is because it works.

We have a GE gas range stove. Anytime anyone walks by it or brushes it, the knobs turn the stove on and gas fills the room. My mother was watching my 4 yr old son and reached into the cupboard above the stove, unknowingly brushed one of the knobs. She then felt really dizzy and laid down on the couch. My son woke her up by trying to put his ninja turtle headband on her and asked her to fix him some Mac and Cheese. So, she went to go turn the stove on and realized one of the knobs was turned and that was the reason she passed out and felt so dizzy. Thankfully, my son was taking a nap in his room when this happened and he wasn't exposed to as much gas as she was. This has happened numerous times and is very dangerous. GE NEEDS TO RECALL THESE STOVES. It's a disaster waiting to happen.

Called GE, they arranged a second local jobber, they ordered the 2 parts, had to wait for parts to arrive, they put new parts in, range still broke, same F640 code. GE tech support told them to 'look for an open wire'. Jobber called me back and said they are busy and don't have time to work on finding an open wire. GE refused to replace the unit.

I called Sears, they had someone at the house the next day (yeah!). Sears looked up the code and ordered the parts, waited another 2 weeks. Parts arrived via UPS. Tech opened box and the induction generator board was cracked in half right down the middle. Sears reordered the part. Had to unplug the unit and turn off the gas.

I understand that they can't fix it because their people are off on Christmas, but when you call the next day and state that you have small children and out of town guest in the home - something is wrong when they can't come out until Tuesday of next week. We've got a problem. When asked to be placed on standby because someone will be in the home - nope, can't do that either. So my question is: Is GE going to pay for the hot meals we have to purchase outside of the home? Of course not. That would be asking too much of them to do the right thing since their stove of less than 3 months is not working.

We purchased this appliance in May of this year. From day one, I have complained that using the cook top and oven at the same time is virtually impossible!! If you happen to slightly touch the control panel when placing or removing hot food from the oven, it turns itself off. If I lean over to stir a pan on the back rings and catch the control panel, the oven turns itself off. Wipe a spill or splash on the cook top, these things happen when cooking, catch the control panel and the oven turns itself off. I am amazed that someone designed a not inexpensive range like this. Had we been told about this overly sensitive feature, we would not have bought it. GE's response: Tuff, it functions the way it was designed. Who has ever heard of a range that you can't stand in front of in case you touch it and the oven turns off?

After many complaints to GE, they have, from day one Beth is our case manager, refused to change it out for something I can cook for my family on without constantly having to reprogram it. We are amazed that a company like GE allows their customer service department, who are on the verge of being rude, to hold such authority! We also had two cook tops sent which were white instead of black, why two is still a mystery, to replace a damaged one. Beth's response was for ME to check that they were not damaged!!!! They were the wrong color. After numerous requests to have them picked up, I ended up putting them in the garbage. Amazing.

I have used convector ovens for over 15 years and have never experienced one that when you set if to a specific temperature sets to another! The regular bake setting is also unreliable. Another major problem when trying to cook. Why was I unable to change this appliance out for something designed to do what a range should do, cook meals? Beth informed me that the only way this could be done was to buy a new one, at a discounted rate!! Conclusion....... GE refuse to deal with the dissatisfaction of a customer and help resolve a very distressing situation!

That repair cost over $500 in parts and labor. When GE sent the new control unit, they also included a new lock motor which is a separate part. That tells me that they have had this problem before. Other than the burners, and the sheet metal, there is nothing else to replace in these ovens.

I purchased my GE Hotpoint gas range in Fall of 2011. It's less than 2 years old. I baked a pie the other day at 425*. It was supposed to bake 30 min. It was done in 15. I thought that was strange but dismissed it, turned the oven off, and went outside. I came back in the house about 45 minutes later and the house was full of thick nasty smoke. My dogs were choking and I hurried and got them outside. I quickly returned to find the oven blazing away at super high flame and the oven control knob was OFF. I checked a couple times, it was definitely off. I opened the broiler door to see what's happening. The flames were very intense coming from the burner tube. I kept turning the knob on to off several times. Finally, after a loud "WOOF", the flames went out when the knob was turned to about 500*. I then turned the knob to off again. The house was just blue with smoke and it took a few days to get most of the smell out.

I called GE customer relations....The repairman the GE sent was from a private company. He was instructed to come free of charge and do repairs free of charge. (That alone makes me suspicious. No one does anything for free these days). He just left. He came and turned the oven on and off a couple times and says it's functioning properly. He says he's going to order a new thermostat and a new regulator and will return on the 9th to install them, but he really can't find anything wrong. (I feel like he's just humoring me). He also said it could have been caused from a gas surge from my lines (I think that's unlikely) to a mouse putting dog food in the insulation. He says probably the dog food thing because there's nothing in an oven that will make smoke. (That's incorrect. Metal will smoke when heated up super hot.) I think he's full of it. He came up with that while he looked around my kitchen and seen the dog dishes.

Now I'm finding all these different complaints about Hotpoint stoves, some similar to mine. These stove are faulty. My dogs could have been killed and my house could have burnt down had I not come back inside when I did. Now I'm stuck with a stove in my house that I'm scared of. (I get up in the middle of the night at different times to check it and will continue to do so after reading all these complaints.) Has anyone gotten any satisfaction after calling with these problems? If I could afford it, I would go buy another range right now, today, and it would not be GE, but as it is, I'm stuck with it and very worried about the safety of this product.

It’s not a once in a blue moon occurrence either. You can simply be reaching over the stove to the get something out of the cabinet and accidentally turn the gas on; (2) the microwave heat sensor has been changed 2 times in 3 years; (3) the refrigerator ice machine has been replaced within the first year; and (4) the dishwasher seems to shut down and need to reboot quite frequently. It concerns me that the knobs are very sensitive and even with the slightest touch and without notice, the knobs will turn and gas will seep out without any sound or warning. In addition, the degree of the turn of the knob in order for gas to seep out is so slight, it is easy to overlook. I have read about many others on the internet with the same issue.

There is a flaw in the design of these knobs that it allows for such easy turning and no warning when it is turned. The issue of how much pressure is needed to turn the knob, the degree to which the knob is turned when starting the flow of gas and/or a warning signal when the knobs have been employed should be addressed immediately. I am sure there could be a simple fix. This can be a very dangerous problem. I will be purchasing knob guards in an effort to temporarily alleviate the problem with my stove. I hope that GE recognizes this as an issue and provides other customers with a warning and also begins a process to design a resolution.

We purchased this stove in 2011. The first time I tried to use the self clean feature, it seemed that a lot of smoke was coming out of the oven door, like pouring out, so I tried to interrupt or turn off the self clean mode. Now, for whatever reason maybe the interruption of the clean cycle, the oven door is extremely hard to open and a general pain in the rear. I lived with this. But now, the cook top has not only cracked, but starting to lose pieces of ceramic or whatever the hell it's made out of. I was fairly careful with this stove and if things like this happen to a newer appliance, c'est la vie. This stove is a mess. I've done my best keeping it clean on the surface and been gentle with the oven door, but this is the last time I will ever buy any of their products ever! We are retired and have limited funds for all these issues.

I have contacted GE several times about the knobs on this GE Gas Range model number PGB908 that don't lock in and when slightly brushed, they allow gas to escape without flame or the ticking sound that the gas is on! The response I have received is that they haven't heard of issue. They sent a technician out that said a stronger spring is needed but there is no such spring available. On the last inquiry, I was offered a discount to buy a new stove, or there were covers available at Walmart and to let them know the option I would prefer. I told them the stove has a huge consumer safety issue and I read online of others voicing the same concern. The options I was given were not satisfactory for most people to purchase a new stove or put cheap plastic covers on the knobs. They seriously need to do a recall on this stove as several times, I've found the knob turned and gas coming fumes in the kitchen. This is a dangerous stove and should receive appropriate resolve.

With documented reading in excess of 2,000, PG&E red tagged the stove. GE untrained tech with no tools responded over a week later and said, "Go ahead and use it." I called GE. They said they would send a senior tech out. The same ignorant tech came out and again said, "It's good, use it". PG & E again came out and said it is red tagged - dangerous.

GE said, under warranty, that they would replace it. PG & E said it was obviously a defective design. GE won't replace the stove without charging me the price difference. I have not had a stove in a few days short of a month. GE is horrible! Why should I pay more when I have been really endangered and left with no stove? Don't buy their products. Now I have to go to court and file paperwork with the District Attorney to get the appropriate action taken against them... all the while without a stove. GE product is a 24" stove Hotpoint. I only want an attorney if it is based on them getting paid out of a settlement. Otherwise, I will do it myself.

I'm glad to still be alive with carbon monoxide being in the air maybe up to 9 months! I'm glad my little dogs are okay too. I could have injuries I don't even know about because of this poison in my home. How dare GE be so cruel!

It was under warranty so they replaced the top part with all the computer dials. Now nine months later, it has failed again numerous times shutting off. I have had two different electricians at my home to tell me the plug and the circuit box is okay. I have had GE back to replace the same parts. I have had two appliance people say there is something wrong with the electrical outlets. I think GE does not want to be responsible for a range that does not work. We had purchased a GE profile gas range 10 months prior to installing it. We got a good deal on it so we purchased it before our home was completed. From the start, the digital control pad had its quirks. The #5 & #6 would never work. So when wanting to cook something at 350 degrees, you would have to program 349. Not a huge deal I know, but you have to remember, this unit originally cost over $2000. It’s not what I would expect from a high-end stove. We got used to cooking that way. Then two of the four self-igniting burners stopped self-igniting. Not a huge deal, I know. It's easy enough to light a lighter when wanting to use it. But come on? The final straw was when the oven just stopped working one day. How can you get around that? The thing is a lemon!

Now technically, in the owner’s manual, it states that the warranty is good from one year after purchase. I am an owner builder and we built our house out-of-pocket. This is important because we did not have a closing date on a bank loan that would show on paper our actual move in date. This is usually important because when you buy a new house, all of the warranties start from the closing date or the move in date. See where I am going here? We have been offered a whopping sum of $100 to help with the repairs that have been quoted as high as $800. We could almost replace the whole stove for that amount. GE customer service is not great! They should warranty what they sell.

I was using the self-cleaning setting when a fire broke out in the oven. While my elderly mom (81 years old) and my handicapped son freaked out and panicked, I had to break the locking mechanism on the door in order to get to the fire to extinguish it. While this is not a top of the line stove, it was still in great shape at 5 years old. When the technician came out to repair the damage, the cost for the lock and heat sensor was $470.00, the stove cost $450.00 to replace new. Does this make any sense? So now I have had to purchase a new stove, which had to be a GE, in order to get my $100 rebate for the service call.

But now, after speaking with members of the firefighting community, I have come to realize that not being able to open an oven door to extinguish a fire is faulty in my opinion. I know the manual says it self-locks, but I can assure you the manual doesn't give you advice on how to handle an internal fire when this happens. Now, I have a son who won’t be in the kitchen when the stove is turned on for fear of a fire.

Initially, I was looking for reimbursement for the replacement cost of this stove, $450.00. Everyone I have spoken with has said this isn't possible. I guarantee, if I pursue this matter legally, the amount will increase to include my loss of work time waiting for technicians and delivery of new appliances, along with mental anguish of now having a person in my household afraid to be near the stove. Please have someone get back to me at your earliest convenience to review and resolve this matter.

This was being caused by either brushing up against the range or reaching into the above-mounted microwave. Just recently while away, we received a call from our son who stopped by letting us know the house was filled with gas (thankfully he was there to open doors and windows). One of the repair tech who had come to the house suggested I cut some plywood block to set behind the knobs to prevent them from turning - not an option after spending $900.

Our calls to Customer Service were to no avail. The last person we spoke with was a "Mark," supposedly a supervisor, who suggested we could use child-proof locks. After I nicked that proposal, he offered to allow us an upgrade with a slight discount and they would remove the bad range. Sounds good eh? Then he dropped the bomb. They would pick it up though I would still be responsible for the balance due and I would also have to pay the price of a new model. What a deal! After many conversations, they agreed to charge me $1,558.25 for the new stove. When they came to deliver it, they insisted on taking away the old one which was only 6 years old and paid for. I did not agree to that either. I planned in selling for scrap metal to defer some of the costs for the new one. Then, they did not install the gas and it did not fit our counter space as the previous one did. Now I incurred 2 additional bills related to this experience - $380.18 for the plumber and $355.00 for the counter to be cut down; it's granite and very time-consuming.

We pushed the springs in to open the top, cleaned the area, and then realized that GE replaced the normal flexible gas lines to the burners with thin aluminum lines. They bend easily and one became disconnected. This is a serious safety issue. Nowhere in the owners' or installation manual is this issue mentioned - no warnings are printed. It's Thanksgiving and we cannot use our stove until a professional comes to reconnect the lines and ensure that we don't break the flimsy gas lines or end up with a leak! What a dangerous mess!

We have cooked roasts in this manner for many years, as the meat is much more tender and juicy. Usually a large roast such as this takes at least 6 hours to cook thoroughly. After about an hour or so, I went outside to do some chores, and was outside close to 2 hours. I came near the house and could hear a "chirping" sound. I realized this was my smoke alarms, and went rushing into the house.

When I got inside, the whole house, every room, was filled with thick smoke. I ran into the kitchen where the stove was so hot that the cabinets around the stove were extremely hot, and smoke was billowing out of the stove. I turned off the oven but the oven light remained on as did the heating element. I rapped on the control knob and twisted it back and forth until it finally went out. I then went to the breaker panel and turned off the breaker. I called GE, but I am still waiting for the tech to come look at it. I don't want it repaired as I will never trust it again. Much of my house had smoke damage, the cookware and roast was ruined, and we have been without a stove since yesterday. The roast was literally cremated with the oven dial set on 225 deg. We have been cleaning constantly, and have bought an air purifier to try and get rid of the smell.

This shouldn't happen. I bought this range 6 weeks ago. As far as how it cooks, I have no complaints yet. The burners heat quickly, and they are of higher quality than other brands in that the coils have little space between them. However, I wouldn't buy this range again because the finish is paint instead of a real enamel. Even in the instructions, it says to wipe things immediately so as not to mar the "paint." It warns against anything with acid in it. I tend to be really clean, and as such, on the first night we used it, I wiped off the pasta sauce soon after it splattered, long before it could even dry.

Those marks can still be seen on the stove top. Also, it takes an act of God to wipe any streaks or smears off the stove. As one reviewer suggested, you can use vinegar and water, but to get all the streaks off it is impossible. I only use a soft clean cloth after my sponge, and with any range I've owned in my past 60 years, that would have been plenty. Paying over a thousand dollars for a painted range is thievery. Also, for being an "energy efficient" range, some of that is offset by the fact that there is an annoying fan that runs for about a half an hour to cool it down so "it doesn't hurt the electronics," we were told. Blah.

When using the front small burner, the range top gets excessively hot and you cannot even lay your hand on it. I talked with Lowe's (where stove was purchased) and they instructed me to call GE because they did not think this was normal. A technician came out and determined with his heat detector that the cook top heats 250-300 degrees 8 inches around the burner and 230-250 degrees at the front edge. I also know that there is an excessive amt. of heat that comes out of the vent of the back burner when the oven is on. You can heat a can of soup without turning on the burner. I did not mention this because I was so upset over the heat on the cook top.

The technician instructed me to use only the back burners until this issue was solved. He later called and reported that all info had been sent in and for me to call the GE consumers relations no. for answers. When talking with them, I was told that the technician who would have consulted with engineers decided that the stove was operating efficiently and when I asked if there was anyone else to talk to, she told me the answer would be the same. I asked that my case remain open and be further investigated because of my concern of getting burned or some other family member that was not used to using the range, not to mention the 3-yr. old grandchild I keep daily.

I was also informed that there were no regulations on how hot a cook top could get. My range has coils, not a glass top. It appears that GE has no concerns about this but I sure do. I would like for others to be aware of how hot the cook top gets on this range. I was told that I could request another technician but the one that came was very thorough and, to me, had sufficient information for concern.

The oven was not cooking. The GE service repairman came in November, replaced parts for the microwave. It was working. Then the oven was not cooking anything. We have had them there 4 times for repairs. Each time, he has replaced parts. It is still not working and I have to call again. We have lost a lot of money in food in that oven.

We bought a new GE Profile range which has the "PowerBoil" burner. We are using propane. We have discovered that when the range is set to PowerBoil, it can burn for 3-6 minutes and then it goes "whoop! " and the flame goes out. Then gas is released into our house at a high rate. The first time this happened, I thought my wife had just not lit the flame. But it happened again, and I asked her "Are you sure you lit it? " (held the clicker till it lit) So yesterday, I put it on PowerBoil and stood and watched it. A few minutes into the burn, it just popped and went out. Gas kept going. This is a major safety hazard. It appears that gas builds up under the range top until it lights, which blows out the flame. Having an open gas leak of that magnitude in a house is potentially going to blow the house to pieces.

General Electric built in 30-inch convection oven model **** with serial number **** which shuts off during the self-clean cycle. It shows F9 code. This indicates trouble with lock mechanism which includes door lock, and two thermal switches. GE serviceman stated that, I needed thermal switches approximately $400 to repair. I have some experience with electronics. I proceeded to check it out. I found that there are two thermal switches which are supposed to have different part numbers and have different values. According to schematics which came with stove, one should trip at 240 degrees f and other at 176 degrees Fahrenheit. In this oven, the thermal switches are identical with the same part number written on them.

Being the same, the self-clean cycle was shutting off about an hour into the cycle. I purchased a thermal switch with value of tripping at 240 degrees Fahrenheit and installed it in place of lower value of 176, according to schematic. Self-clean cycle now works perfectly. My stove can’t be only one on the line when it was built. On the internet, many customers have trouble with this F9 code. My feeling is that some of these customers are paying to have this corrected. How do we get GE to look into this? I have left messages with crystal with no returns.

In February of 2011, I purchased a double oven, GE Model # PT960SR1SS. This is GE's High Profile model. The oven will beep that it is at a certain temperature when in fact, it isn't. I have placed an oven thermometer in both ovens and they are both off by 50 - 75 degrees and will not maintain a steady temperature. The oven has been calibrated as much as possible with no positive results. It may take as long as an hour to reach 350 degrees and that is reached by turning the oven up to 450 degrees.

GE has replace my oven with two new ovens since February 2011 and they all have the same problem. GE is not producing the part that is defective, so they are replacing the oven each time and as a result my built-in cabinet is beginning to be damaged from ripping the old ovens out each time. Evidently, there is an engineering problem with all of the GE Profile Double Ovens. My last call to GE was on 11/23/2011 with the consumer relations specialist telling me she would speak with an engineer and would return my call on Friday, 11/25/2011. A week later, I called, left a message and she has not returned my call.

I paid extra for the pans. I was cleaning the stove and never noticed the chips until one stuck in my little finger, this has caused great pain. Sick over the stove, it has continued to chip and the company sent me some paint to cover the chipped part. This stove had to be hit hard during shipping. The last stove I had was a Kenmore and I had it for over 25 yrs and it looked like new when lightening ran in and that is why I replaced it. The company said since it was cosmetic, they would only cover it for 30 days. So here I have a new stove continually chipping and can't get GE to do a thing. I called GE and finally got through to someone in their safety department. I was told that "yes" this was a safety issue and that they would schedule a tech to come out and replace the "switches". I don't know how they knew it was the switches.

The tech came out and told me the switches are bad. He said that he would have to order them, but he would give me a discount on one of the switches since I was out of warranty. I told him it was a safety issue. He corrected me and said, "No, it wasn't.” I told him that GE made the appointment for the tech to come at no charge to me. He repeated it wasn't a safety issue, even though GE told me it was. I asked him to leave. He gathered up all his shoulder strap electronics and walked out either calling me a "**" or saying "this is a **". I am a man and didn't like his tone or what he said, but I just let him leave.

I called GE back. Again, they told me they would send someone out between 8 am and 12 pm to do the repair at no charge to me. This time the tech called and told me he was on his way. But he said that I was going to have to pay for everything, that he wasn't doing it for free. I told him not to come and of course, he was pissed off. I'm about ready to download the video and pictures on-line for the world to see how bad GE products have become and start filing complaints.

Manipulating the oven thermostat had no effect; indeed, it was in the "off" position during the entire incident.

The cleaning product in the oven vaporized, creating a toxic smoke, and the entire area became so hot that I had to call the fire department to shut off gas and electricity to the unit and quell the flames.

During the hook up, the propane company claimed it had a leak and couldn't hook it up. The model is JGBS19DEN7WW. The service technician came out to the house but couldn't service the range since the propane company removed the fitting, claiming it would reduce their liability. I again had to schedule with GE and the only available appointment was 1.5 weeks away, which I agreed to. On the day of the second appointment, I took off from work but found it strange that I didn't receive a call and received no email, so I called.

GE claimed that I cancelled my appointment, which was ridiculous. The first representative said it was cancelled through the web interface, so I hung up and called back. The second representative claimed that I cancelled it through their automated system (they call you the night before), which is so far from the fact. I asked the representative why I would take off and wait for a technician. I'm really not sure what game GE is playing but it cost me over 2 hours on the phone. GE tried to find an authorized service center but had no luck and said they would work with their dispatch but told me not to hold my breath (similar wording).

To my amazement, I received an email that a technician was going to come out, so I waited. Their appointments are from 1 pm to 5 pm and my technician showed up at 6 pm. The technician was very nice but didn't find a leak so I'm going to use the appliance based upon GE technician's professional advice. I ask him what the smell was and he informed me that it was normal and to leave the oven on for about a 1/2 hour at 350 degrees then turn it off and let it cool then do the process again and it would be ready to use. I did has he instructed and the smell became stronger and stronger filling my house with poisonous smelling fumes.

I read though the owners manual trying to find a solution to the fumes. There is nothing written anywhere in the manual about the fumes, how to get rid of them, why they are there. No mention of the smell and fumes anywhere. I called the company and was told how to get rid of the fumes and odor. I was told to put it on the self cleaning mode for 3-6 hours and that I was to open all my doors and windows and remove any birds from the house. Then I was to leave my house and either go to work or go for a walk. I don't leave my house when the dryer is on let alone with all my doors and windows open. So I questioned him further asking him why customers would have to do this. He informed me that it was because it was too Expensive for GE to burn off the Acrylic adhesive that holds the insulation on the sides of the Range at the factory so they have the customers do it. When I ask him where in the manual it said that, he could not give me a page number.

He gave me page 22 for the self cleaning instructions. I then ask him what the product was that GE used to cause the Poisonous fumes. He said he didn't know. I ask him to please get the MSDS and read to me what it said. He then read the MSDS to me and it told about the adhesive and what it could do to people and pets. It will kill birds and affect some person adversely. There was nothing more he could help me with. So I thanked him and hung wanting to cry.

Early August of 2008 we purchased a GE gas range model #JGBS23DEMWW. While the product was under manufacturer's warranty on or about December 12 of 2008 the unit began to leak a lot of gas under the top of the stove by the burners. Our local utility company inspected the range deemed it unsafe for use and turned off the gas.

GE scheduled an appointment for Friday the following week. The repair tech arrived at 4:30 pm for a 12-4 appointment. He did not have the parts and said he would order the parts and that they would be in by Tuesday. We telephoned to schedule the next appointment only to get an answering machine and no return call for the next four days. By then I was pretty mad. I telephoned the store manager who said the wrong parts had arrived and that the new parts would arrive at our house the following Friday. The tech fixed the appliance or so I thought. I spent the next three days power cooking the Christmas cookies and breads. The oven needed longer warming times to reach the proper temperature and my husband was sick off and on with what we thought was the flu.

On New Years weekend my husband and I were by then very sick with flu-like symptoms. We left our house to to purchase flu remedies. When we returned and entered the house I smelled gas, a lot of gas. We opened the windows and immediately called Nipsco and again the stove was leaking gas from the burners and oven. Again GE scheduled an appointment for the following Tuesday. Again the tech arrived without the parts and rescheduled yet another appointment for the following week. The parts arrived on Wednesday the following week and he arrived on Friday to fix the stove. He stated that we needed to adjust the oven temperature and that he would replace all of the parts by the burners and a part in the oven. This time I contacted GE consumer relations and notified them of the problems with this appliance. They offered to cover the repair and a warranty. I had purchased an extended warranty which covered the repair.

We continued to have flu-like symptoms for the next four months. I started getting severe headaches on Wednesday 05/04/11. On Friday, I turned on the stove to cook and noticed a stronger than normal smell of gas that was not clearing up as fast as it should. As my husband entered the kitchen, I mentioned the smell. He sat down complaining of a headache, nausea and muscle aches. I immediately turned off the stove and it made a high pitched hissing sound. Again I telephoned Nipsco; again they found a gas leak in the front right burner and a high carbon monoxide output from the oven, deemed it unsafe for use, and turned off the gas. They arrived in just over an hour.

Out of concern for our safety he tested our furnace, water heater and gas fireplace off and turned on, all of which tested fine. I immediately called GE following the Nipsco tech's departure and was given the first available appointment for you guessed it, the following Tuesday. This time I notified consumer relations the following Monday and stated that I want the appliance replaced. On Tuesday the tech arrived late. He insisted that there is no gas leaking from the burner and that the equipment Nipsco used was overly sensitive which gave false readings. He insisted that the soap bubble method was best. He found a gas leak in the oven and asked if the oven took longer than normal to heat up to which I said yes. He explained that it was enough to cause the smell of gas to escape from the burners and could cause problems.

I explained the range's problem history and he stated that some parts by the burners had been changed but that there were no new parts in the oven. He then stated that he did not have the proper parts or a carbon monoxide tester (no big surprise there) and that he would squeeze us in on Thursday in the afternoon. Then he asked if we wanted him to leave the range gas on! I told the man "not until it's fixed."

I again emailed Karin/consumer relations today 05/11/11 letting her know that the service tech had implied that the range was safe to use despite our obvious signs of carbon monoxide poisoning and his acknowledgement of a gas leak. I again stated that I want the appliance replaced and that the lemon law applied to this case. I then sent a second email to notify them that the top of the stove becomes too hot to touch when the oven is in use. They have not responded at this writing.

How wrong I was. I turned the knob but nothing happened, it was in the off position when I first got to the GE electric stove. I could not pull it out, it was so hot I could not get near the front of the stove. I knew I would never get it unplugged so I went out back and began to turn off the circuit breakers until the stove became inoperable. GE said it was because the oven was too close to the range and heat was affecting it. After looking closer, I discovered that the top handle screw goes through the doors metal frame work and is supported well, the bottom screw, which is the end that always breaks, does not go through the doors metal frame and only goes through the plastic of the door allowing it to flex a great amount. After drilling a hold through the doors metal frame and putting the bottom handle screw through the frame, the handle has not broken in 5 years. This is concerning the plastic glider adjuster that fits the GE Hotpoint gas range model number - RGB745BEA5WH. The part is plastic with a threaded screw-type center shaft that is approximately 1/2 inch in diameter. The part has been redesigned and is now all metal with a screw-type center shaft that is about 1/8 inch in diameter. The glider screws into a support bracket on the range to support it and level the range. There are four glider adjusters supporting the range. The threads on the original plastic glider broke when I attempted to move the range and the glider can't be placed back into the bracket and is now causing the range to wobble. I felt this is a potentially injurious and hazardous situation and that the range is now unstable and tippable.

I contacted a parts supplier and they informed me that GE has redesigned the glider and the new part will not fit the range. Upon the supplier's advice, I contacted GE directly for a new part. I spoke to Kathleen on August 25th 2010 and she gave me the GE reference number of 8456869. On August 31st 2010, I received a new glider in the mail, but it is the redesigned glider and does not fit. On September, I contacted another representative (name unknown) and explained the entire problem. She evidently must not have been paying attention because she then asked me "what's the problem." She then advised me to contact Consumer Relations, which I did and I spoke to Mr. Watts. Kathleen seemed to recognize the situation and she shipped the part free of charge and it is indicated as an emergency on the shipping form. He proceeded to berate me that basically what do I expect - since the range is out of warranty and nine years old. I failed to believe that I am the only consumer in the country who has an older kitchen appliance. The range works well and it is only a matter of replacing the glider.

I feel that this was a design flaw from the beginning - the fact that it is plastic and supporting a heavy range. The redesigned glider looks like how gliders have been from the beginning. I suspect that the plastic version was an attempt to save a few cents and they discovered that it was a problem. However, the issue is that they seemed to have failed to provide any remedy for those who do have the plastic part.

Mr. Watts seemed to indicate that this is all my fault because I moved the range and I must have done something to break it. It was a stupid design to begin with and I told him so. I didn't see anything in the owner's instructions where it states that the range can't be moved. I am looking for a solution to prevent the range from tipping due to its instability. GE can't seem to understand this and seem to think that I have a very old range that should be replaced. I am not replacing it at this time. I asked them since they redesigned the glider and it's smaller than the original, if they made some sort of insert for the support bracket that the glider can then be screwed into. Mr. Watts said no.

This range is a tipping hazard in its current state. I will have to prop the range up on something so that it is less wobbly, but this is still a problem particularly if I have young relative visit my home. The range is appended to the wall but is still not stable due to the missing glider. I just don't understand how they can redesign something probably knowing that it was not good to begin with and leave people stuck with the problem. I will never buy another GE product again.

I emailed them about my stove, GE Spectra, about 7 years old. The burner won't turn off even when putting the knob in the off position. Then the light that shows that a surface burner is on, is always on. That same front right burner will go from a low or medium setting to extremely high regardless of what the setting is on. Then the left back burner will come on when not turned on. The front left burner keeps going off but then the back burner comes on. Big fire hazardous.

We have a GE Profile, model JB988, glass top range. At least 3 times over the past two years, a burner turned on by itself. Twice, it was in the middle of the night. We have been turning off the breaker when it's not in use because of this. Last night, I used the oven to bake a potato casserole. We grilled steaks on the grill outside and had cold three bean salad. At no time yesterday did I use a burner.

At about three this morning, we awoke to a strong burning smell. My husband accused me of not shutting down the dampers on the grill. Well, that was not the problem. The front burner was on high and turned on by itself. A plastic cutting board, which was on the stove, was burning. Our smoke detectors never went off (that's a separate issue). We spent about two hours with open windows and every fan we have, ventilating the fumes. I'm sure that plastic fumes are potentially toxic.

I have not been happy with GE appliances. Our ice maker went out last December. These appliances are 4 years old. We had a refrigerator lose it's compressor after 5 years, which we purchased in 1986. The Sears fridge we replaced it with is still working. I will never purchase another GE appliance again!

Purchased a GE JES-14518J-02 April 2009. Mfg date is Sept 2007. It was the size I needed and while already ~1.5 years 'old', it was more recently manufactured than many other machines of various makes on display in several stores.

Long story short, it stopped heating 14 months (2 months out of warranty) later. Clock, lights, etc work as others have described. The prior oven was a Sharp. It lasted about 4 years. I went with a non Sharp due to this short lifespan. It had replaced a Sharp that my wife and I received as a wedding present in 1990. It worked for 15 years! I'm so fed up. I think I'll toss the GE since all similar reports here suggest a very expensive repair. Who needs a microwave if it will only last a year? I don't have money to throw away.

I'm told that major appliances are now expected to last 7-8 years. Unacceptable, these things cost many hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars. My Kenmore dryer is 27 years old, works fine and never repaired. The washer purchased at the same time was replaced two years ago. It had a new circuit board and a pump along the way. The dishwasher (a GE, I guess they used to make reliable products) is 22 years old, never need a repair. The Amana refrigerator is 21 years old. The only 'repair' I made was to take apart the fan, clean it and put it back together and replace the gasket on the freezer door. So I might be using more electricity with the older appliances (which does bug me) but we run the dryer on low heat and have always let the dishes air-dry. They work well and I have no confidence a new one will last very long.

The Jenn Air stove is another issue. It lasted 14 years but I had to replace the bottom element (OK, not too bad) and two pricey circuit boards, a couple of hundred each and I did the work myself. These things are darned expensive, as ranges go, many hundreds of $$ to repair is not exciting. The display started to fail again in March and the paint on the top was peeling so I replaced the range. I went with another Jenn Air not because of reliability (they have a bad rep) but because no one else makes a stove with modular grill and heating elements.

I have a top of the line Monogram oven made by GE. It is about 10 years old so when it lost all its power one day, I was not totally surprised. I called GE to schedule a service technician to come to my home. He came on April 30, collected $95 for the service call, and said it would take two weeks to get the parts that I needed. That sounded like a long time to be without my oven but I had no choice but to wait.

After three weeks when I did not hear from them, I called for a status. They informed me at that time that the technician "did not" order the parts. I was furious and called the customer advocate division where I reached Tyler who seemed to really care about me and my situation. He said he would order the parts right away and have them shipped to my house to arrive no later than Tuesday of the following week.

We scheduled a new appointment for Wednesday figuring that we would be safe since the parts were slated to arrive no later than Tuesday. On Tuesday, when I arrived home from work, there was a note on my door stating that the technician had been there but found no one home. Well, duh, the appointment was for Wednesday so why would they come on Tuesday and expect me to be there? Again, I had to call GE to speak to Tyler to reschedule my appointment. We rescheduled for the following Friday.

On Thursday night, dispatch called and said they would need to reschedule my appointment. I called Tyler first thing in the morning to complain. He said he would take care of it and call me back. He did take care of it and the technician came. But when he got there, he realized that the parts that had been ordered where not the right parts for the model oven I have. He reordered the parts on his laptop in front of me and rescheduled me for the following Friday. So, I took the day off and waited for them to arrive. Around 10:00, the dispatch office called and told me that they were not going to be able to make the appointment. I was again furious.

So, I called Tyler and spoke to him about it. He said he would take of it and make sure a technician comes that day. I said great. At 11:45 (my time slot was 8-12:00), dispatch called and said that the technician had a medical emergency and would not be able to make the appointment. Are you kidding me? Is this GE or some small Mom and Pop on the corner that just opened their doors last week? Naturally, I called Tyler, my customer advocate and asked him to call my cell phone since I needed to leave my house and get to an appointment. Guess what, no call back from Tyler.

When I got home that evening, there was a message from Tyler (I specifically asked him to call my cell) saying that it was too late in the day for him to do anything. Again, I was furious. I am generally a pretty calm person, not anymore. Tyler said in his message that he could offer me one of two options. The first one was he could call another servicer since the company that keeps messing up is obviously not capable of getting to my house or he could give me a discount on a new oven. Wow, great choices, huh? By the way, it is now June 7th (five weeks of this on going hell).

On Monday morning, I called and left a rather nasty message for Tyler, my customer advocate, and asked him to please call my cell phone to discuss the matter. Well, on June 9th (two days later), when I still hadn't heard from him, I called him again. I got another person in the customer advocate division who said Tyler was busy and that he would be able to help me. I went over the long case history with him and then told him how aggravated I was about the two choices Tyler offered me. A discount on a new oven? So let's get this straight. I can buy a new oven for $3000 and get a 10% discount when the repair job is $200. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

Apparently, Tyler thinks I have more money than brains. After venting this to the new guy that I was talking to, he told me that he would discuss the whole thing with his supervisor. He put me on hold for about 10 minutes and came back and said that what Tyler meant by the discount was that GE was prepared to offer me a brand new oven and all I would have to pay for is the $200 installation fee. Okay, well now, I'm happy. Finally, GE is making it right for me. The new guy then says that I would need to speak to Tyler again to close the deal since he is the customer advocate that opened the claim. So I went on hold again for about 15 minutes.

Tyler gets on phone, acts like he has no idea that it is me on the phone. I told him how pleased I was that GE was going to basically give me a new oven and Tyler says, "What? GE is not giving you a new oven." I mentioned to him that is what the last customer advocate just offered me and proceeded to tell me that he was mistaken and that GE would never authorize such a thing. So as of this date, June 10th, I have yet another appointment scheduled for Monday. I can hardly wait to see what happens next. In the meantime, I am so pissed that they made me that offer and then rescinded it, that I have put in a call to Tyler's supervisor, Lisa, and I am currently waiting to hear back from her. My guess is that I will have a very long wait! My advice folks, don't buy GE products. They couldn't care less about their customers and their customer advocate department is a big fat joke!

I've had a GE PGB918 range for less than a year. Early on, I had a technician come in to look at two things, one being that if you happen to lean on the knobs even a little, they will turn, either releasing gas or turning on the ignition and thus, fire. Meanwhile, you might be surprised or burned by the fire, or might leave the room or not notice for a while that the gas is on. The technician (his attitude the entire time he was there is another story) said it was my problem and nothing could be done. I have since seen on the internet many people complaining about the same thing.

Today, I had just made some toast and was leaning range to turn off the power to the toaster. Next thing I knew, there was an explosion, singeing my hair (thankfully held back this time by a hair band) and my eyelashes, and, of course, scaring me. Apparently, gas had leaked and reached the hot toaster (again, it was not on) and exploded.

Three calls to people at GE have led to the scheduling of another appointment but the last person I spoke with said that if the technician finds that the stove is operating as designed, then there would be nothing they could do. This piece of equipment is dangerous. It is too easy to casually brush against a knob and turn it. I don't know what they will say to me next week but from what I have been hearing, I don't hold out much hope for a good resolution. This item should be recalled immediately. I don't know what to do here. This was an expensive unit.

Maybe we should stop cooking, if his claim is right and it could melt parts on the stove. They want $300.00 for repair. I believe GE is responsible. I purchased about $8000 of GE appliance for our kitchen (Advantium Microwave, double oven, cabinet depth refer and this cook top (KitchenAid received the dishwasher.) The cooktop has been a problem child. We ordered a PP950BMBB cooktop unit that does not have a Stainless Steel ring as we liked the clean look. The top broke and it was suggested that if I wanted to pay for it (turned out to be $190), the replacement stove top they would include the SS trim on the new part. The benefit of this being it protects the cooktop edge from breaking.

I did so and since the first top was replaced, three have failed either because of defects or wires being cut during replacement. The current problem being the pan sensor does not work. I called for another replacement and in the midst of this (their service man was at the house at the time), one of their customer relations folks intervened and suggested a replacement cook top. I told him there was not a mismatch between what was ordered (no stainless ring) and what I have now with the stainless ring (Model Number PP950SMSS.) I explained and I was told the unit would be shipped with the SS ring.

Yesterday the gent came to install the cook top and he came with the unit without the stainless ring and said this is the wrong cook top and left. I called Customer Relations this morning and was told, “If you want the stainless ring cook top, you will have to pay for it because it was not the original order." I was told that by two service people and one supervisor. I was most rude to the supervisor as he appeared to be dumber than a box of rocks. I was told the rule is you will get what you ordered. So I have reverted to their repair process and was wondering why the Customer Relations person who intervened bothered.

His comment was that the repair people "were not calibrating the cooktop part and a new unit needs to be ordered to solve the problem." The main reason I got annoyed with their folks is I inferred they did not believe me (that I have a stainless ring on the current cook top) and that does tend to bring me to a boil very quickly. Never once did they ask if I have a receipt for paying the difference of the SS ring, just followed down the line and said you will get what you ordered.

This is about the wall oven (JKP30W0M1WW) with its control panel (Part number WB27T10970). The clear plastic cover over the panel's control buttons started to bubble and come loose from the panel. Because the oven is 2 years old, it is not under warranty. So they will charge me for a replacement control panel.

A service man took a look and said this is a design problem. The heat vent is located just below the control panel and just above the door. He said he has seen it many times. The more the oven is used, the quicker the bubbling happens. I don't use mine much, so it took longer. A previous model has a lip between the panel and the door, so this doesn't happen. Even if I replace my panel, it will happen again and again.

Eventually, I won't be able to use my oven if the panel cover comes off. And each panel costs about $138 to purchase. I'm not sure of the installation charges.

I recently put it to the test and not even in 5 minutes, the pan I use was on fire. I notice that maybe the drip pan reservoir or the concave spill retainer is too close in distance to the burner. We have experienced seven kitchen fires which I have documented since we began operations, and all of them are for the same reason. First, let me state that I work for P.C. Richard & Son, a major appliance &electronics retailer in the N.Y./Tri-State area. Over the past 5 years, I've sold many G.E. appliances, and generally, customers have been happy with their purchases. There has, however, been a recurring complaint, which I myself have experienced on a G.E. stove I purchased for Model JGBP36DEMCC).

While I am quite pleased with the overall performance of this range, I am deeply concerned with the slickness of the coated burner grates. On more than one occasion I have had to grab at a pot handle to keep it from slipping off the stove while simply stirring the contents. Tonight, a pot of boiling water for pasta actually slipped off the grate. Luckily, I was able to jump out of the way and was not burned.

I am aware that black cast-iron (non-slip) grates are available for the JGBP36 models. I have requested that GE supply me with these at no cost, along with matching burner caps, as a safety upgrade. I believe that the design of these grates (slick finish & rounded edges) is a safety hazard, or an accident waiting to happen.

G.E. informed me that I would have to pay for these grates, and that since they did not come with that particular color, it would be considered a "non-factory modification". Interestingly, many of the newer models of G.E. stoves, regardless of color, are being delivered with the non-slip cast-iron grates. While I will continue to sell G.E. appliances, I will clearly point out the potential danger of the slick, coated grates to prospective buyers and suggest alternatives.

The switch failed the 3rd time in April 2009; it failed again in September 2009 and this time the motor had to be replaced.

The fifth time that the switch had to be replaced was January 19, 2010. I believe that we should receive a service contract for life without having to pay any money. We figured "oh well, it's one out of five burners." Now, one year later, the refrigerator has also completely stopped working. It has been a problem since we moved in. The temperature has never worked right. It always, when the readout was even working, read 5 to 10 degrees off what it was set at for both the fridge and the freezer. Most of the time, however, you can't even tell the temperature because the digital readout rarely ever works.

Yesterday afternoon, the fridge said 37 but it seemed very warm. It was fine in the morning. When we went to reset the temperature we found that it was actually 68 in the fridge and 7 in the freezer, it was set at 37 for the fridge and 0 for the freezer. No amount of cleaning, resetting, pushing the turbo cooling button, or unplugging and replugging has solved the problem. Now what little food we have left is in a cooler outside until we can figure out what to do about this.

I purchased a top of the line GE Profile dual fuel range (over $1,700). My complaint is a lack of logic and a lack of customer service at the base and escalated level of GE service. The issues have been:

    1. It has never completed a self-clean cycle without getting a failure code.
    2. The gray grates and burner caps on the stove cannot be kept clean. They are a nuisance.

    3. The bottom burner failed after only 18 months.

I contacted the customer complaint department and explained the issue. After much negotiation, I got an agreement to replace the grates and burner caps. I requested they be replaced with the black cast iron grates and caps as these, when they get dirty, will be black as opposed to the original that will look mottled gray and black (carbon buildup). They sent me gray ones again. When I re-contacted them, they gave me some lame excuse that it wouldn't be fair to others and that it was not possible for them to send out the parts as they weren't associated with the serial number. They said I was on my own on the lower burner and the fail to clean issue.

When I asked for escalation, I was told to write to their second level customer service organization - which I did. In the meantime, I replaced the lower burner. When I was finally contacted by the upper level CS dept, it was obvious the woman had predetermined that she was going to say no to my request. Her excuse was that it was not possible to send me the grates I wanted because the parts were not associated with my serial number and would constitute a design change? Since when is color option a design change? The grates are just a different color. GE sells ranges in a variety of finishes and the grate shapes are the same for all of these models.

When I explained this, she would not discuss. I became angry. When I said that she was not interested in making me happy and was being obstinate, she accused me of using abusive language. I used no abusive language and I asked her to make sure the call was being recorded so her superiors could hear there was no abusive language. She accused me again of using abusive language and hung up on me. The logic was invalid. The interest in satisfying me to correct the problems was non-existent.

I purchase a GE PROFILE RANGE in 1994...I have had no problem with the stove till now...I was taking a yellow cake from the oven when I noticed bits of something on top of the cakes. When I looked at them closer, THEY WERE RUST BITS !!!
Well I got down on my hands & knees & inspected the roof of the oven...to my surprise the top (roof) of the oven was full of rusted holes !!! I took a spatula and poked at them & I has rust bits falling everywhere...and these holes go thru to the insulation above ! There are about 30 holes in the top of the oven... Now mind you the rest of the oven is in excellent shape...walls, bottom, all fine...no rust. I called GE CONSUMER AFFAIRS, they were very nice & concerned and said they would send out a serviceman at their expense. The following week he came... OK GET READY FOR THIS ONE... He told me he HAS seen this before... My stove is no longer under warranty + there is nothing GE could do...a new stove liner would cost me $500+ dollars... Now this is the best one yet... His recommendation was to scrape off + sand down the rust, and then spray the roof of the oven with a high temperature paint and it should be fine. When I expressed my concern about the holes being thru the metal into the insulation, he recommended not using the broiler or any high temp oven cleaning cycle... In all my 52 years, I have never seen the inside of a stove rust like this. If we lived in a humid climate, I would understand...but then the rest of the stove would be rusted too... So on my return call to GE they told me the same thing the repairman had said and apoligized for any inconvenience...there was nothing they could do...when asked if there was any monitary they could give me they offered a $75 rebate towards a new stove (LIKE I WOULD BUY ANOTHER GE) and stood behind what their serviceman said...i told them that i didn't think paint in an oven where you cook food is a good thing (nice for mufflers)and they said they would make note of it in my case...
