We bought a brand new Fisher & Paykel washer and dryer (they were extremely overpriced) and we have had nothing but trouble with them. The fins broke on the washer within the first year. In the last 6 months, we have spent about $300 on the dryer. We just put a new lint screen and heating elements in and it still is not drying. I can't afford to put any more money in these things and at this point, I can't afford a new set, but when I am able to purchase a new set, I guarantee that it won't be Fisher & Paykel!

Hello Linda,
Thankyou for taking the time to comment. Although we do place a great deal of emphasis on quality control within our factories, unfortunately things can go wrong from time to time. It is unfortunate to read that you have had this experience, we would like to contact you directly to see how we can come to a resolution together.

Don't throw those washing machines away! They are valuable. They are about the only type of washing machines that can be easily converted to power generators for hydro, wind, bicycle applications. Don't throw them away. They can easily provide household power for energy efficient appliances. Google "Fisher and Paykel generator".

Bought my Fisher & Paykel washer and dryer from a local retailer, 6 or 7 years ago. The washer sounds like an airplane going off and the dryer has been serviced three times. This time after only 6 or 7 years, the dryer will cost $450 to fix, plus the $117 service call. I paid what I thought was a fortune for them both, being told they were the best out there.
I have hated them since I got them. I went yesterday and bought a $498 set of Whirlpool washer and dryer to replace them. I can't wait to get them. I am going to throw my Fisher & Paykel in the trash and tell everyone I know not to buy their products. The retailer even told me that they are not built to last more than 6 to 7 years. It's too expensive in the first place and then to find that out. Never again!

Hello Sandy,
Thankyou for taking the time to comment, as a brand Fisher & Paykel has been manufacturing for over 75 years and place's great pride in the units we create, develop, innovate and manufacture. It is unfortunate that you have had such an experience, and have as a result purchased another brand.

I purchased a Fisher Paykel washer and dryer in June 2006. One month before the warranty expired (in May 2008), the pump in the washer went out and was leaking water from underneath the washer onto the floor. That pump was replaced at no cost to us. However, in August 2009, the pump again went out and was leaking water all over the floor.
That pump was not under warranty and we had to pay for it along with an $80 service call! Right on time, in November 2011, the pump went out again and was leaking water so another $80 service call and the pump was $190. I know others who are having similar problems with this washer and the pump and I'm telling everyone I know, "Do not buy this brand of appliance (not washers, not dryers, not dishwasher or refrigerators) because they don't last."
We now have more money spent on repairs than the cost of the washer so we're thinking we'll buy a good ol' Kenmore next time!

I purchased a washer and dryer set on 9/17/08 with some life insurance money that was left to me by my father. The sales person stated that there was a 2-year warranty. I figured that if anything happens to a $1700 set in two years, the company/item is not any good. Well, close to that time I never received anything about maybe purchasing an extended warranty (as Sears always calls).
Now on 9/27/11, my washer began to not wash. A little water began leaking from the front of the washer (underneath). I didn't think much of it as I work 60 hours a week and did not have time to call. But now the motor control in the display area is fried. And the people that Fisher Paykel recommended charged me $80 to come out (mind you, they never stated that the service call was that much) and tell me that it was gonna cost me another $485 for a $950+ washer. I thought, "Um, no thanks." So I pulled apart and all I need is that part. I cannot find it anywhere other than the Fisher Paykel website and it is a $182+ rip-off! I will not purchase another Fisher Paykel item even if they are discounted to $1.

This was my official complaint to Fisher and Paykel. I bought your product (washer and dryer) from Lowes 4 years ago. I spent roughly $1600-$1700. The product ran pretty well, and I enjoyed them for most part until our dryer stopped heating. I assumed it was the heating element, so I called around to see if I could have some service it. No one other than A&E Appliance Company services it. Every appliance service company said they used to service it, but could not get info and parts for them so they stopped.
A&E sent someone out here for the service. He had no idea how to work on it. He spent 2 hours trying to open the dryer and had to have someone on the phone the whole time to tell him what to do. He finally determined it was the heating element at 8:00 at night. He said he would order the part and schedule a follow up appointment. I waited a week; no call from them. I called them up and asked what the deal was. They had no record of my previous appointment and said no one had ordered the part or made another appointment. I asked if they could give me the serviceman's number. They said they did not have their numbers. I asked if they could get in touch with them and they said they would page them to call me. Three days later, no call. I called back and they said they would page them again. Three days later, no call. I said the heck with it and searched for the part myself.
I found it, installed it but now there seems to be an electrical problem. I used my meter reader to find where the power failure was at. I thought I found the part that was needed. I went and bought another part, installed it and still it doesn't work. At that point we were a month in and I was $300 down. I was at the point where I was going to buy another dryer and sink the Fisher and Paykel dryer in the closest pond. I called 1 888 936 7872 and explained to them the situation and asked if Fisher and Paykel could make any suggestions before I sunk this piece of junk. They asked for me to call A&E again. I explained that I could not get anyone to come out here and that if I did, I would have to pay at least another $300-$400 for diagnostics, parts and labor. I only paid about $800 for it so that was out of the question.
The representative then told me that she would open a file for me and F&P would make sure A&E came out and fixed it at no charge to us. For this I said, that would be great service and show the consumer that F&P was committed to service. We opened a file #** and they said they would call A&E to ensure someone came out to service me ASAP (at no charge). A&E calls me 2 days later and says we will be out there this morning to take a look at it, but I would be charged. I explained that F&P was to handle the charges. They said no. The service request mentioned nothing of that. They asked me to call F&P and sort it out so now I have to be acting as liaison between A&E and F&P. I called F&P again and I had to explain the whole situation again.
This time the rep tells me they can probably waive the diagnostic fee but that's it. I said no, forget it, I'll go buy a dependable brand. She said she would contact Michael, who was the person that had authorized the request before, and she said she would call me later that day to let me know what she found out. Two days later, no call. I called A&E and asked if F&P has contacted them; nope! I call F&P again and asked for the status of my request. They say, 'Oh, no one submitted that request'. At this point, I have had enough of playing liaison and being a sucker. I just went to Sears, bought a Maytag and have an $800 F&P dryer sitting in my laundry room that I am about to sink into a pond.
I have NEVER in my life experienced such incompetence from two companies. I promise you I will never buy any F&P product ever again, and I have already begun spreading the word to my friends and whoever will listen. If you would like to get in contact with me, you can visit my new Facebook page. Don't ever buy a Fisher and Paykel appliance. I and many others are sick and tired of the lack of service this company provides. Your company’s service, along with A&E’s, is horrible!

We bought a F&P washer and dryer a couple of years ago and have had trouble since day one! We have spent several hundred dollars in repairs with much frustration! The washer went first. Of course, it was my fault because a dime was left in pants pocket by accident and sent the whole machine into a tailspin! With conventional machines, that wouldn't have been an issue! Then, the "fins" on the rotator broke off and was cutting into my clothes as I washed them! Then, bearings went out on my dryer and ruined 2 loads of clothes with black grease before I realized what it was!
Now, 2 weeks ago, element and thermostat had to be repaired after a week of laundry piled up! I still have the bill for over $200. I haven't even had a chance to pay yet and now the lint bucket is stuck! Seems like it should be an easy thing to fix but with all of the "smarts" of the machine, it's probably something to do with electronics not releasing it. I am so disappointed in these products. Something big would have to happen to make me ever buy another F&P product! I had a good ole Maytag washer and dryer before and used it for many, many years with no issues. My husband wanted me to upgrade, now I wish I hadn't given my Maytags away as they are still working great for my son who had just bought his first home!

We have a model GWL15 for the last 4 years and have had numerous issues. It was serviced under warranty 3 times the first 2 years and twice since the warranty has run out. It has spit water out of the top since day one. Once I was told it was the amount of detergent I was using, then the tension springs popped cause it was off balance, then the filter was clogged because I didn't clean junk out of the pockets once.
Seems that every time a tech was there, I caused the problems. Reading this forum and seeing all the issues with the pump, I am guessing that is what has been happening since day 1. Wish that I would have read this years ago while we were still under warranty. Called the FP number and they told me there are no known issued with the pump on my model. I find that hard to believe based on all these complaints. Many of them they have responded to already.

Hello Susan,

Fisher Paykel has the most inefficient customer service/repair arrangement I have ever seen. FP provided me with three numbers/businesses to contact for washer repairs. Two 'local' companies do not service my area. The one that does service my area, A&E factory repair, does not have a contract with Fisher Paykel. Imagine! Call them, but there is no agreement!
I have an authorization for parts from FP but A&E will not order them unless I pay for the parts and try to get reimbursed from FP. FP says "we don't accept this authorization". Since the companies don't work together, how's that going to happen? I have made at least a dozen calls to FP and A&E and each 'help line' tells me to call the other one for help. After looking at other comments about FP washers on this site, and from my own experience, I'm convinced that FP appliances are money pits and health and electrical hazards. Customer Service numbers are merely smile and nod over the phone tools. ..frustration will make the customer go elsewhere.

After 14 years, my double dish drawer (Model: DD 6021 / Serial Number: 88247AUD550367) has corroded in the frame in such a way that whenever I try to wash a load, it leaks and triggers the float switch. I tried to seal the corroded area with some silicon but it did not work. I assume that the only way to correct this is to purchase a new dish washer; one that lasts longer than 14 years. With the initial cost of this machine, I would not expect to be replacing it due to simple corrosion. I really liked how it worked.

A few years ago, the machine I've been using for 16 years broke. Someone told me to get a new one from Fisher Paykel, which I did. I rarely used the machine so I thought it would last, but it didn't. First, the control panel went, then the pump came next. It took the repair company 4 weeks to fix it.
Now, the same thing happened. But I will not have it fixed because it's cheaper to get a new one. And I will never get one from Fisher Paykel again.

I am seeing a recurring theme about the drain pump failures. In my case, the drain pump has now failed 2 times on my GWL11US washer. The first one was leaking all over the floor. After purchasing the second, it was better but still, the floor would get wet under the washer. Not to mention, it took about a month to get a replacement (backorder). I purchased a plastic pan to place under the washer to keep this appliance from ruining my floor. The other day, the windings on the pump motor shorted out, stunk up the whole house and the motor control board just shut down in the middle of the wash.
In my opinion, both of these F&P appliances are the poorest excuse for a washer/dryer I have ever seen. The plastic lid on the washer has cracked and the overlays for the operational buttons (keyboard) have many cracks around them also. Had the design engineers put some thought into the control board, they could have planned in some short circuit protection for the control module, so it could survive a shorted load of the pump motor. Or was it planned that way to make more money? This is the first and last F&P product I will ever buy.

I purchased a Fisher & Paykel dishwasher in 2001 because I thought that the two drawers would be great since there are just two of us at home. Directly out of the box, this dishwasher had a dented stainless steel panel on one of the drawers. The water sensor was defective in the other, which caused noisy alarms and error messages. It only got better from there.
Both drawers seals were defective and replaced multiple times in the first year. When the seal again caused alarms to go off after the warranty, the bill was over $150.00 each time this happened. These drawers were lemons from the start and should have been replaced. I have not used the machine for eight years. My husband and I do our dishes by hand.
However, my current horror with this product is that now, to add insult to injury, the two drawers take turns in making beeping and/or clicking noises and the lights flash. This leads us to turn off the circuit breaker. Since my trash compactor is also on that circuit, I am unable to use everything in the kitchen that is also on that circuit--unless I go to the basement and turn on the breaker. This product is not worth the effort of purchasing.
After the first year of keeping the machine running, I was told that the changes were made to the drawers that improved the quality and reliability. This purchase has been a horrible experience and I would never recommend this product to a friend. Just the thought of paying another $1,800.00 to some company for a machine to wash my dishes gives me pause to say the least. I am extremely disappointed in every aspect of this product. Certainly, the design, workmanship, quality control, value and servicing have failed to meet its intended purpose.

We bought a DD603 dishwasher in 2002 and it has worked reasonably well since then. However, a problem seems to have developed on the top drawer. I recently cut my finger when pulling it open, and discovered three sharp, probably metal projections on the pull. I can only conclude that this must be a design defect.
The minimum cost in my area for a service call from an authorized servicer is $65 for just a diagnosis. F&P refuses to defray any part of this cost.

I purchased a new F&P washer to replace the old one that I have. After delivery and hook up, I found that once you put the clothes into the machine and started the washer, the lid locked until the end of the cycle. I am not able to open the lid without turning off the wash cycle. In the old machine, the lid locked when the spin cycle was on. Now, I am unable to see what the washer is doing or how much it is filling. I called the customer care department to find out what could be done to override this feature during the fill and rinse cycle and an answer from a supervisor, named Bernice, is that I should wash by hand if I am so concerned about how my clothes are being washed.
In the past, I have found this company to be difficult when trying to purchase parts; but this goes way beyond attitude. If you want control over your wash do not buy a F&P washer. Once you start the machine, its out of your hands. This is not a consumer friendly machine

I bought what I thought was a new model, an Aqua Smart WL-37, from the Warehouse Discount Center (WDC) on 5-16-11. I also bought an extended four-year warranty. The WL-37 failed less than three months later (8-10-11). It made a loud noise, and it went dead. No power. I called WDC for help, and they gave us a list of contractors. It turned out none of them travel to our town in Fillmore. This is even though when you first call the contractor, they say,” sure we will go to Fillmore”. However, once they try and locate us on a map, they thought it was “Sylmar”, not Fillmore.
Anyway, we finally called P&K customer service. They also gave me a list of contractor folks who would go to Fillmore. I guess the good customer service representatives at Fisher and Paykel’s don't have good English skills, as they also gave us a list of contractors who go to Sylmar, not Fillmore. Finally, I got one who actually came to the house after a ten day delay. When the technician came inside, he asked me for the original sales receipt. The folks at Fisher & Paykel had no proof of sale, and because the WL37 is not the current model. I had a broken ankle and could not go upstairs to pull the receipt, even though I showed the technician the four-year extended warranty with a sale date of June, 2011, it was not good enough.
So back to finding contractors who would go to Sylmar… err… Fillmore. Finally, I found one. Again, after another week lag they showed up on August 29. By this time, I was smart, and registered my unit on the Fisher & Paykel website, so the unit was verified under warranty. The technician came in and looked at the washer. He said it needed a new power board. He left his card, and said he would order it that day. Another eleven days have gone by, and I have heard nothing. This is despite leaving several messages to the technician and his store. I just finished contacting Fisher & Paykel customer service via its website customer care inquiry. Hopefully, they will contact me soon.

I bought a new Fisher & Paykel (FP) washer and dryer at Lowe's in April 2007. The washer worked well until December 2009. I had the same problem many others had, discharge pump leaked and shorts out the pump, and that in turn shorts out the control board for the washer.
To their credit, after I called them, FP took care of the repair of the pump and the control board in December of 2009.
Trouble is, it just happened again. A year and a half later the discharge pump and the control board are out again.
I called FP and was told they would not fix it again. Well, me neither. Rather than pay $400 to fix it again, I am getting a new washing machine that is not Fisher & Paykel.
While shopping at one of the "big box" stores, I was told by one of the appliance guys that they stopped selling FP washers for a time because of guess what? pump and control board problems.

I had them repair the Uline wine cooler and after a year of them ordering parts and trying this and that, I would not have them come back to my house for the washer. I used a respected appliance repair person used for years on my apt building. June 2009 replaced drain pump, August 2010 replaced drain pump. February 2011 replaced drain pump, June 21, 2011 drain pump is fine, circuit board is shot. One on order - it is now August 17 - still no circuit board and no idea when it is coming. I have no had to pay for laundry to be done for 8 weeks.

I purchased a Fisher Paykel Washer and Dryer in 2009. The washer has worked okay, except for two instances in which the pump wouldn't drain its water and investigation determined the pump had been obstructed by lint. The dryer is another issue altogether. The first problem came just over a year into owning this appliance. The bearing was deemed failed and it had to be replaced. The bearing is less than a year old and the dryer again sounds like bare metal grinding on bare metal. Now...the dryer had to be serviced for heating problems. Specifically, the dryer would run for hours without drying the clothes. It was determined that the lint sensor trips the heater to prevent fire...makes sense, but further investigation found that the fine mesh screen which serves as a filter has dry-rotted and failed, so lint quickly moves to the inside of the appliance and repeatedly triggers the safety mechanism.
Question: Why should I have to take this unit apart every couple of days to clean it? The design is obviously flawed. I've never done such a thing to the previous dryer I owned, nor have my parents...even when there were eight of us in the house.
Sadly, I was given the entire song and dance about how wonderful these high priced, gilded turds would save me time and money. Nothing is further from the truth. While the appliance technician has been friendly and helpful (once I can get in touch with him), these appliances have been miserable to own. I share my house with four others and the laundry piles up quickly...not to mention the fact that the dryer is a fire waiting to happen. I had a Whirlpool standard dryer that was seven years old and I got rid of it when I bought these gems...it still worked. What was I thinking? Now the decision must be made...shell out a few hundred bucks for a poorly designed lint filter and service, or, look for an older standard dryer. Guess what...Goodbye Fisher Paykel!Note to others: Stay well clear of this high tech junk.

We purchased a refrigerator ( fisher & paykel ) when we remodeled our kitchen. After 3 years, the door alarm kept beeping after we closed the door. This would keep going until we opened the door and pushed the button inside. We called the company and tried everything they suggested, to no avail. We went online and found that many other consumers had the same problem. Finally, we asked for an authorized service company. They recommended KAM appliances. It cost 95 dollars to get them to come out and tell us that they needed a part to make the repair. When they returned, they told us that the part was defective and they would talk to F& P again. They came out a third time and then the refrigerator would not work at all. We were told that it could not be fixed. We called F & P and they told us we were out of warranty and offered us a pro rated price on a new refrigerator.

Dear Mr. Callahan,
Thank you for your comments. Our file has been closed because after shipping the new unit (that you accepted on a pro rata) to KAM, you stated their delivery time frame did not meet your request and cancelled the transaction all togther. We are in the process of getting you your refund. Because the old unit is now not available to us, there is no way for us to know if KAM did anything wrong while repairing your unit originally. We would recommend you contact KAM for any complaints regarding their service repairs etc. While they are an authorized service agent, we cannot accept any liability if they were to make a mistake.

About 4 years ago, we purchased a Fisher and Paykel Intuitive Eco washer. In the beginning we were very happy with our new product. Just shy of our warranty running out we experienced our first problem. It was pertaining to the pump/drain hose. Now, in the last month we have had to replace the pump and circuit board. It started with the "beeps" and a fault code. After turning the washer off and back on as instructed by the manual it began working again. A few loads of laundry later and now we smell a hot burning smell then the code alerts and now the washer stops working. We start with replacing the pump. Then the circuit panel goes out. Our repair man says "the circuit board went out because of the motor so now they have an inline fuse to prevent this, it's an upgrade". Okay, so we replace both parts. Great problem solved. Wrong.

This is a continung saga from my earlier complaint.
OK, so I called in the service repair person recommended to my by F&P Customer Service. Now mind you I had absolutely no choice in the matter because, F&P would not allow me to talk to their service personnel unless I was an official appliance repair organization sanctioned by them.
The dilemma is as follows: The washing machine was 4 years old and stopped in the middle of a wash cycle. The display panel was dead so I could not read any codes. I Call F&P for advise on how to diagnose the problem. They refused to let me talk to their service personnel. My background is 30 year in computer a EE degree and of those 30 years I spent 4 years fixing large mainframes. So I know a little about electronics, control board, electricity, motors etc. This did not matter to F&P, ok fair enough but why refuse me the option to solve my own problem at my own risk.
In addition a new machine would cost me about $550. Now the price tag I was looking at to fix the machine was about $300 to $400 for parts and if you add in a repair person: $100 for diagnosis and then another $250 for labor your talking $700 tops for parts and labor on a machine that lasted only 4 years and cost me approx $500. If I could eliminate the middle man then I could get away with $200 to $300 parts only. Because F&P service would not talk to me I would have to eat the cost for both parts which I speculated could be the problem. They would consider both part and not be restock able. Oh if they had just talked to me.
Cutting to the quick the repair person confirmed that the motor control board was bad and, now here's the gem, I also have a burned out pump. To diagnose the pump problem the repair person called F&P service and they instructed him to ohm out the pump. Now I could have done that. So the end result was I was looking at $280 for part and, $250 for labor. On top of that the repair person also offered to buy the machine if I decided to junk it and, buy a new one. So now let me ask you, is there a problem with his scenario.
So I called F&P parts and they are shipping me the parts for a grand total of $210 and that includes, shipping. But, there still remains a problem. If I install the part I void the part warranty and if I have the repair person do this then it cost me $250 maybe more because now they loose the part markup.
So my position is as follows should I pursue a legal option. F&P recommended the service person I called and had them come is for a cost to me of $100. He diagnosed the problem to be the motor control board and the pump, the latter being assisted by F&P service. If I install both parts, pump then motor control, don't want the pump blowing the motor control again and, the machine does not work, I will conclude the repair person did not meet their obligation and, either I will request a refund for poor service (i.e. I will chase them down using the AG's office first then, take them to small claims) or ask them to further diagnose the issue at no charge. Count on it I will be there when they come in. I know my way around electronics.
As for F&P they need to think further about how to deal with product repair. Their customers are being fleeced and F&P is complicate.
Now here's a bonus. The repair man told me that the reason the pump went bad, which burned out my motor control board, hmmmm, was because, I used liquid detergent. Yes folks take a look at your grocers shelves and tell me what sort of detergent is being promoted? That's right, liquid. Appears that liquid detergent breaks down the motor seals.
The repair person recommended we use powder. My wife had to search hard to find a powdered detergent.
So folk your washer is doomed from day one. Now I don't make these machines but I was wondering if there could be a class action suit in here.
Oh and by the way those dryer sheets you put in to make your clothes smell good. Well they can coat your dryer and start a fire and if you have small children well those same sheets will remove the fire retardant material from their clothes.

You should have minus stars for F & P.
8-month old fridge stopped cooling. Called F & P warranty repair, they sent Integrity Appliance. first call to F & P was 6/26/11, over the next 5 weeks they sent Integrity (usually with a long wait between to repair Fan motor control, then main contorl, then temp sensor, then PC fan. Never worked, although repairman declared it fixed. I requested replacement (5 weeks without a cold fridge in summer) and they made noises each time, but still decided on repair. They also said that since I bought from an open box store, they consider it refurb and would only replace with a refurb (watch out for Weiler Group, too- they don't disclose this at time of purchase). I was promised a call from a supervisor Monday 8/1 regarding replacement, but no one called. When I called today they said that they've been in touch with Integrity and the repair company has ordered "the part" and is trying to schedule another repair. Integrity left last Fri after replacing the PC fan and again declared it "fixed", although it was melting what little I had in the freezer - liquid popsicles and ice cream, soggy frozen peas. So how Integrity knew to order a part tfor something that was fixed...
I also submitted my list of lost food (partial, actually, I got tired of making the list and going to the store to check prices) over $200 worth. I was told by F & P to submit a list with prices, since I didn't have photos - when I came home to fing everything spoiled I didn't think of photos I thought of getting the rotten smell out of the house. As to foday they're "going to investigate" my claim - so now they seem to be renegging on that too.Since I was 99.999% sure they wouldn't replace the fridge, I spent more of my own money and bought a Kenmore over the weekend - I need a working fridge, and I have no faith in F & P, a company I found to be unethical and dishonorable. What I want now is 1)I'd settle for $800 of the &1600 I spent on the useless box they call a fridge and 2) I want the money for my spoilage.

My four year old washing machine just died in the middle of a wash cycle. There was no indication on the digital display. I validated power to the unit then called customer service and asked for help but got nowhere.
Basically, the control unit is divided into two component parts: display and motor control. Power goes to motor control, which controls the display. I located the specs sheet and tried to get out error codes, but no luck (now that’s a design flaw. How can the display board tell you it has a problem when it could be the problem?). So, it’s either the display ($160) or the motor control ($140).
Both are easy units to replace. So I asked whether I could buy both units and return the one I don't use. Their answer was no. So what are my options? Have a repair guy come in at $100 who will then do what I can do for another $50 and then charge me for a marked-up part because he'll tell me that’s their handling fee. End of the story is I have to make a decision to replace a 4-year-old product for another machine which would cost me about $550. The real kicker is I bought this machine and it replaced a 15-year-old machine that worked.
Another thing, although the customer service had plenty of “I'm sorry” they, like the repair shops who are dancing all the way to the back, are absolutely useless. My recommendation is do not buy from Fisher & Paykel, located in New Zealand. Buy from a local US company. At least you have the option of protesting outside their office.

She sent two parts (computer and pump) and the technician just replaced these and all seems on for now. Best part of the story - no cost although the machine is 3.5 years old. NEVER BUY! I can't stress enough not to make any purchases from this company. We purchased a Fisher and Paykel washer and dryer in 2008. We began having issues with the dryer while it was still in warranty, and the problems continued out of warranty. In fact, the dryer has been serviced at least four times in the three years we have owned it. We have spent many hundreds of dollars on repairs to this three-year old set. However, the most disturbing experience recently happened with our three-year old washer. An authorized repair person (Eastern Appliance), that the company referred misdiagnosed the problem (after a five-minute visual diagnosis, he identified code 49 as a drain pump); he never ordered the parts, and lied about the problem being resolved to Fisher and Paykel.
After two weeks and several phone calls to the repair person, I ordered the drain pump and installed it myself. It turned out that code 49 is the motor control, not the drain pump. We spent money on the technician, and Fisher and Paykel won't take any responsibility to correct their authorized repairman's error. Their response is that the washer is out of warranty and is our problem.
This company has the worst customer service I have ever experienced; they do not return phone calls, will not transfer you to a supervisor, and are completely unwilling to assist in resolving the problem. After four weeks and $50 in quarters for the Laundromat, I'm still looking at a broken washing machine. We will NEVER purchase any other Fisher and Paykel products. This reinforced the importance of buying American products. Spend your money on any other company. You will be EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED and FRUSTRATED with any Fisher and Paykel purchase you make. The company has no integrity, and does not stand behind its products.

Call customer service, was rung up on the first time, second time Rebecca answered, what a nice person. Told her that before I purchased a new non Fisher Paykel machine, I wanted to give FP a chance to make it right. She arranged for a tech to come to the home (no cost to me) to evaluate the machine. And it did its job for 18 years without a single problem. Now we have a fridge from Fisher and Paykel. Sure it looks mush more slick than the old one, the problem is that only after 4 years we ran into trouble with it.
It started beeping and flashing red light every time we've opened it and our fruits and veggies became frozen. After 2 visits form a technician and a $400 bill it still beeps and flashes red. It looks like we need a new control panel. We don't know how much that will cost us ( but we have a pretty good idea by now). After all this experience the only question comes to mind: does a refrigerator need these expensive and very unreliable parts to work well or is this a way for the industry to soak us - consumers - for more and more bucks to maintain it? Does it do its job better than the old ice box with all these computerized parts? The answer is NO.

We have always bought F&P products until we purchased a stove approximately seven years ago. Within two years, an element had blown and within five years, three elements and the clock had stopped working--all separately.
I tried going back to the shop where we bought it--they said we had to deal with F&P directly. I discussed this with Consumer Affairs and they said this was nonsense and that the contract was with the buyer and the retail outlet, not with the manufacturer. No luck trying to convince either F&P or the shop that this was the case!
In the end, we got an electrical repair shop to come and diagnose and fix the problem. They advised me to contact F&P again and try to get recompensed as they agreed that this shouldn't have happened. So I tried contacting F&P again. I was put onto their Australian call center who agreed that I was correct but said to contact the NZ call center the following day as I had just rung outside business hours.
I did this and was told I had to use an F&P-approved electrical repair person and would have to pay for them to come out again! I was also told that because I was outside my warranty, I would have to pay. In the end, I gave up, got it fixed by my repair shop and will NEVER buy F&P again, which is a huge pity because they are an NZ firm and I try to support NZ made. Their customer service is bloody awful and I don't agree with having to deal with them directly or having to use an approved repair shop. It reeks of manufacturer control whereby there is no unbiased decision-making to fix the problem.
As an aside, their repair shop would only give three months warranty on replacement elements whereas my chap gave a year. It has now been three years since we got it fixed, but today the forced fan gave up the ghost--a new problem. Thanks F&P! (NOT!)

Well, neither machine has ever made a year without something going wrong. My dryer is out of service again because of bearings in the drum are grinding and the clothes are not getting dry. And prior to that it took the dry to run four cycles until the clothes were dry. This has been a regular problem. I've had the dryer fixed at least five times for various things.
The motor, bearings now twice on that, the drum was out of balance. The repair service said that was also because of the bearings, I can't remember the other service call on the dryer. On the washer, we had the motor go out twice, drum out of balance and on the one motor, the repair man never came to the house, just said I needed a pump. It turned out I didn't need a pump. There was a clog in the hose. Too much lint according to the repairman. And here is another thing I don't understand, why don't these authorized repair places keep parts in stock? It takes at least two to three weeks for parts then another week to get the repair service out to fix the problem!

Ever since then, the dryer has not worked a full year without breaking. The last time, it took them 6 months to fix. And here it is again, broke. This last time, the door that closes on the top loading dryer broke and busted out the front of the dryer. I had 2 bath towels in the dryer.
When I called Sears about it, they were to order me the door gliders. But I got metal jokey pulleys. It was not even close to what I needed in the first place. The tech was supposed to be out here today to fix it. Well, he didn't show up. Thank God I bought the extended warranty on it. When each time they come out, it's around $300.00 to fix the problem, and then another $200-$300 for the parts. These are the biggest waste of time and money. The only way I see them being energy efficient is when they are broke all the time. It's one way to save I guess, but it's a real pain in the **.

It sounds good except that it really didn't happen quite that way. I got two calls from a young lady at FP-USA. In the first one, I told her my problems in finding a service rep. She said that she would try and find someone. I told her that I wasn't all that satisfied with the job of washing dishes the unit did when it was working right. She said that the problem was related to dishwasher detergent no longer having phosphates and suggested that I try Lemon-brite. I told her that subject dishwasher detergent had been phosphate-free long, long before my unit was manufactured.
A short time later, she called to tell me that she was still looking for someone who could repair FP appliances. That is the last I heard from FP, period. There are no messages, missed calls, etc. from FP from that time until this minute, no matter what FP would have us believe. I waited from December 2010 until late March 2011 to replace the unit. I think that was giving them a pretty good chance. By the way, a call to the local dealer confirms that they still have no dependable repair rep in the area so I have to wonder just who she was going to recommend to me.

I purchased an FP washer in 2006. I had my first issue with it in 2008, it was jumping around room. When it found balance, the rod came off. I reattached it but it would never balance or drain properly after that. Clothes came out wet and not clean. It always had standing water at the bottom of the tub that would not drain. It constantly beeped and took forever to wash a load. It was very loud during spin, so loud that if I were having conversations in same room, I had to raise my voice. On 5/4/11, we did diagnostics because it would not fill up with water during wash /rinse. The trouble code indicated that cold water inlet valve was bad. I ordered one and replaced it but it still had the same problem. I had to add buckets of water from the sink to fill it so it would continue. Now after reading all these complaints, I see others who have experienced my frustration.
What a joke! It's the worst appliance I've ever owned. Their customer service was no help at all. I called the local service tech they recommended and he told me I would be wise to purchase a new machine and not to get another FP. After I told him my problem, he said I could spend several hundreds of dollars to repair but FP washers are known to continually break down with same recurring problems. I do appreciate his honesty and at no charge. Best advice a service tech has ever given me. I will tell all my friends and family not to waste their time with FP products. I am not going to waste my hard-earned money trying to get any other parts for this piece of junk. FP, you should be ashamed of yourselves. I just hope that my posting will make others wary and run the other direction. If these recurring problems have been going on for so many years, it's not going to improve. FP evidently does not care about its customers.

Our Fisher & Paykel refrigerator/freezer unit has had a series of failures due to poor manufacturing quality. Factory technicians have been out several times to repair the unit for different issues.
The current problem is that the ice maker will not make ice. It will make ice with one or two cycles after the freezer is defrosted, but then will cease to function.
I called customer service. Customer service refused to get involved because the unit has recently gone out of warranty. They will not take into account the quality history of our unit.
The customer service agent claims that the problem is that we don't have the FP supplied water filter hooked up. This is a false claim for two reasons. First, the water is filtered elsewhere. Second, the unit does produce ice immediately after being defrosted. The trouble is with the sensor or solenoid that controls water filling of the ice tray.
The lack of the filter is being used as a further convenient excuse to avoid involvement.

Thank you for your comments. Our Customer Service Manager will be in touch with you to discuss this further. Or, if you would like to reach her direct, call 949-790-8900 ext 3401

We first purchased a Fisher and Paykel oven, the Paprika edition at our previous address, brand new. We had nothing but trouble with it from the start. It appeared that the thermostat had gone in the oven after only having it for 2 months, it was constantly too hot and extremely hard to work out what to set it on. We thought it was just us at first, but as time went on, it became apparent it was faulty. We had service men out, but it they were unable to fix it for long. The elements on the stove top had to be replaced on two occasions after just 1 year!
When we sold up and moved to our new house we were mortified to find the exact same model installed. The oven appeared brand new without a speck of dirt on it. After less than a year of living here, the internal light has gone and the thermostat is broken once more. Cakes and muffins bake in less than half the time at half the temperature! Everything gets burnt because it is so hard to judge. The rear element heats much cooler than the other three, with things boiling over on one side, while barely being warm on the other. The oven is now stained where so many meals have been burnt on so many occasions because it is impossible to know how hot it is. What a terrible product they have manufactured. I find it hard to believe that we were just unlucky twice, and after asking around the town, I have found that there are other people who are unhappy with Fisher and Paykel ovens. I contacted Fisher and Paykel and they wanted us to pay to get service men out and assess the situation. They're very unhelpful and hard to get any information out off. They basically told me to go away.

We purchased a Fisher and Paykel washer and dryer three years ago. We have had nothing but trouble. The lint does not make it to the lint catcher. It builds up inside the dryer. We had to have it serviced twice and the repairman basically told us that we will have to take the inside area around the lint catcher apart and clean every couple of weeks. What a pain! Well, tonight, we smell something burning. You guessed it, the dryer is on fire. This is the worst dryer we have ever purchased. This could have caused serious damage to our home and family. Beware!

We purchased a brand new Fisher and Paykel washer and dryer on the recommendation of friends. We were told that they were reliable and well-made appliances and that we would be very happy with them. We needed a good washer and dryer to take care of all the laundry that comes with a household of 9. What we didn't know was the ride we would be in during the time that we owned them.
Right after we purchased the washer and dryer, the washer leaked water all over the floor every time we ran it. A repair man was promptly called and he could not find a problem. We were told that this was probably our fault for using too much detergent and the water was spilling over. It sounds plausible but we ran it with no clothes and no detergent, and it still leaked. The repair man came out several more times, trying something different each time. After failing to find what was wrong, it was determined that we had a lemon and we received a new dryer. We went about 2 weeks without a washer, but we survived.
Dryer FatigueAbout 2 1/2 years, the dryer started to show signs of fatigue. Sometimes, the electronic panel wouldn't light up when you pressed the Power button. Sometimes, you had to press the Start button several times in order to get it to start. Eventually, it decided that it didn't want to work anymore. We called the repair man and he came out to give us the bad news. One of the parts was worn out and we needed a new one. "How long will it take to get the part?" we asked innocently. One week and $400 (parts and labor). Wow! That's half of what we paid for the dryer! Okay, we thought. We can afford it and be without a dryer for one week. We'll just go to our local laundromat for our laundry for one week. One week. We can make it.
It's Been One Week (with apologies to the Barenaked Ladies)The next week the repair man comes with the shiny new part and installs it - nothing. The dryer still doesn't work. He calls the main repair support facility in New Zealand. "Oh you need this other part too," they say. "How long will it take to get the part?" we ask. One week. Two weeks to get it fixed? We already waited one week so I guess we can wait an additional week, and there was no charge for the additional part. Well, I guess that makes it okay, right? We can go to the laundromat for another week.
Two Week's NoticeSo, the repair man comes to our house the second week. This is now his third visit and we are on a first name basis with him. He has the second shiny new part with him and he installs it - nothing. It will not even power on. Again, he calls repair support in New Zealand. "Oh you need this other part too" they say. Wait a minute. The dryer only has about what, 6 parts total? Why does it seem like their repair support is just guessing at what is wrong?
Straight To The SourceBy this time, I feel that it is up to me, the customer, to call customer support and complain. I call the main number and talk to someone there and explain my predicament. I ask to be transferred to a supervisor, which they did. I again explain what happened. Their response? "We need the notes from the repair man to do anything, so you need to call the repair man and tell them to send us the notes." Instead of doing that, I put F&P support on hold, call the repair man, and put them in a conference. Now, they can talk to each other. The repair man promises to send the notes right away. When can I expect a response? 48 hours. 48 working hours, and since today is Thursday, you probably won't hear anything until Tuesday.
Making It Right - Just Not Right NowThe next week, F&P New Zealand called me back. They know that we have been through a lot and they want to make it right. Therefore, they will be sending us a brand new dryer and pay to have it installed and the broken one removed. "Wonderful! When will this happen? Tomorrow? "Three weeks." Um, are you having someone carry it to our house?" "No, it just takes that long, they say. Oh, and you are still out the $400 you already spent on parts and labor. I ranted but I was promised that maybe it could be done in 2 weeks, but it would take at most 3 weeks. After talking about it with my wife, we agreed to the 3 weeks. We'll just spend more time (and money) at the laundromat.
The New Dryer Is Here! No, It's NotAfter 3 weeks, I called F&P to find out what was going on. They told me that they did not know what was going on and would have to call me back. "You don't have that information in your computer?" "No. We have to make calls and send emails to find out what is going on," they say. Okay, I'll wait. I get a call about an hour later, telling me that it is scheduled to be delivered in 2 weeks. "What? Why? It's already been 3 weeks!" He says, "Yes, we know sir, but that is when it is scheduled to be delivered." I asked, "Is there anything you can do to speed this up?" He says, "I will send an urgent email and someone should contact you in 24 hours." Right. We've been without a dryer for six weeks and the solution is to send an "urgent email" and wait.
EpilogueIt is difficult to determine exactly what went wrong. Was it the product QA? Was it the training of the repair personnel? Was it the supply chain? Was it that customer service apparently has no way of determining the status of your problem? My guess is it is probably a little bit of all of the above. It has been more than six weeks since our Fisher and Paykel dryer broke and we're still waiting for the replacement. We are out $400 but that doesn't matter to us anymore. We have had to put up with the inconvenience of driving to the laundromat every week to do dozens of loads of laundry.
Maybe a dryer will come eventually but the damage is done. We need to replace our stove and were considering a Fisher and Paykel stove. There is no way we will ever consider buying another Fisher and Paykel appliance, and all of our friends and my business associates are now aware of our experience with Fisher and Paykel.

We bought a Fisher & Paykel single drawer dishwasher back in around 2002. We installed it a year or more later. Since that time, we have had nothing but problems. The first time we had a problem was the night we brought our son home from the hospital when he was born. We woke up that night to fire alarms and smoke everywhere.
I called Fisher & Paykel, and they sent someone out to fix the dishwasher which was the cause. Keep in mind that the dishwasher was under $1,000 in price. This first repair was around $400. We did it as a new one was still so much more expensive. Then, the problems kept coming. A total of almost $700 spent on repairs now and I have finally lost it. They only came to our house 3 days ago to fix an error message for a leak (there was no leak but their records conveniently state there was) for another $120 service fee.
Today, 3 days later, it is broken again. This time, it is some cover underneath the unit which stops it from opening and closing properly. The supervisor at customer care tells me that they will probably have to charge again as it is not related to the fault 3 days ago. That will cost another $120, then parts and labor no doubt. Fisher & Paykel's idea of service was to come out and charge us or we can upgrade to a new one for another $850 or so dollars. Do they really think I am stupid to be paying that much all over again for another dishwasher that is a lemon?
Their supervisor even said to me, "We can't promise that every product is going to be good". Not sure that is the best Quality Assurance statement I have ever heard. So, I ended up telling her that I will now add the dishwasher to land fill (hope they aren't concerned about the environment) and she was of no help whatsoever.
Thanks Fisher & Paykel for a few years of annoyance. Neither I nor my large family and network of friends will buy your products again based on the lack of service and any kind of commitment to satisfying a customer or keeping market share. If you are a values-based organization, I am sure they didn't take long to write.

We are sorry to hear of your disappointment. We have contacted the supervisor in our customer service department that handles your country, and if they can locate you, they will be in touch with you. Otherwise, please call our call center at 888-936-7872. Sincerely, FISHER & PAYKEL USA

This is my second comment on my Fisher & Paykel double-drawer dishwasher. Earlier, I reported that I had experienced nothing but trouble with the unit, that it never really performed very well. Although several dealers in my area sold F&P appliances, the sole repair technician was no longer available. One dealer put me in touch with an appliance repairman who had 'some' experience with F&P. He was pretty clueless but had no problem charging me full price for a 'service' call ('service' as used in reference to a bull/cow relationship).
Then, out of the blue, I got a call from a F&P rep. When I told her of my problems i.e. service reps, she told me she would find me one. She told me the poor performance I was seeing may be due to dishwashing detergent no longer containing phosphates. Well, the dishwasher detergent hasn't had any phosphates since long before my 2-drawer nightmare was ever manufactured. She called me back at least two more times to let me know she was still on the case. Last month, I gave it up and bought a new Whirlpool dishwasher, which has been like a breath of fresh air. One of the happiest moments I've had in the past five years was watching my F&P double drawer (actually single-drawer since the top drawer hadn't worked in over a year) dishwasher on its way to the local landfill. Although I am marginally satisfied with my other F&P appliances (gas rangetop, electric oven & microwave, range vent hood, and warming drawer), you can rest assured there will never be another F&P appliance in any home I own. Additionally, I warn everyone I know away from them. I would not accept a free replacement from F&P.

My wife and I purchased a Fisher and Paykel wall oven in 2005. It worked for almost two years then began to have problems after problems. I have notes that fill pages dating all our troubles, repairs and contacts with the company. It finally nearly started a fire in our kitchen while in the cleaning mode. We paid for repairs and had several technicians work on the oven and ended up frustrated with the poor quality and really bad customer care. I sent a demand letter, that garnished a response. Fisher and Paykel "pro-rated" us the next newer model and we paid them even more money just to replace it with another oven. The replacement (that we had to pay for) has lasted 18 months and is having nearly the same issues. I have left messages with the customer care rep and the technician. No replies, no contact, no service, and a very expensive oven that will not work.

This is our my worst customer experience and worst dishwasher we've had!
We bought a 2 drawer FP in 2005. We thought this was the absolute top of the line dishwasher. During the first two years, it worked just fine. We recommended it to other people, but since then, it has been a nightmare. The drawers will not open and close properly. We have had continuing problems. We had 13 service calls in 2010. Two calls in the last two years were for leaks which ruined our basement ceiling and carpet.
I have dealt with Peter from customer service in New Zealand and Steve, the technical representative out from Eau Claire, WI, who was supposed to be at our home last week and never showed up and never called. In my last phone conversation with Peter, which was today (February 16th, 2011), I asked for some of the bills to be paid or a new dishwasher and his exact response was, "That ain't going to happen. Our only obligation is in the first two years."
Anyone who is reading this and thinking about buying one, think again. I would not recommend this to my worst enemy. Please do not respond with the normal response I see that you are giving people to contact your customer service number because that is exactly who I have been dealing with, and I have been getting no response at all.

We will investigate this for you and have our Customer Service Manager contact you. Also, Peter is not the USA Customer Service Manager. The phone number we leave here for our customers is our Managers direct phone number and she is available M-F 8am 4pm PST to assist our customers. We purchased double dishdrawer, oven, stove top, and downdraft vent in 2006. We have had problems with all the products except the vent. We like the appliances when "they are working". The biggest problem is getting service.
We purchased at Lowes with extended warranty through A & E Factory service. Each problem takes a ridiculous amount of time to correct with numerous visits out. From the time we report a problem until the time it is fixed, it could take months. The repair service does not stock the most basic parts, so each part has to be ordered from the factory and shipped directly to us. On numerous occasions, the parts are shipped directly to us from the factory, and when the repairman finally shows up, we find that the parts shipped were not correct or incomplete. It literally takes months to get the right part and then for a competent technician to figure out how to install it. Apparently, Fisher Paykel and their certified repair companies couldn't care less for their customer's convenience or satisfaction. As a building contractor, I would never use these appliances again or recommend them to anyone else.

We are sorry to hear of your dissappointment and frustration. The warranty you have with A & E is not a Fisher & Paykel warranty. All parts ordered are ordered through their distributor etc. we have no control over the time it takes for them to get parts or complete a service call. We have an IWL16 Fisher and Paykel washer. We have had it for about three years now. When it works, it's been a great washer with an excellent user interface and very high spin speed. The high spin speed ensures that our clothes are as dry as possible before entering the dryer. We have had two problems with the machines that resulted in service calls. The first was two years ago. The machine was knocking. After two service calls, the suspension was replaced.
The second was a few weeks ago. The machine went totally dead. It took four service calls to replace the power supply/display and then the discharge pump. It turned out that the pump was bad and the display was probably fine. This was inconvenient but I will say that Lissete, who is the customer service manager at Fisher and Paykel in California, was excellent. She followed up quickly to get us our washer back as soon as possible. She covered all repair and shipping costs even though our machine was out of warranty. Yale Electric was the service company and they were excellent as well.
On a side note, while our machine was out of service, we went across the street and used our neighbor's bullet proof 1970's Maytag.

I own a Fisher Paykel refrigerator. The door handle is loose. I called the company to ask how this could be fixed as I don't see any screws. I was told that they could not help. No way could I speak to the technical service department. They gave me a telephone number of the appliance repair services in my area so I can arrange for service call at my own expense since the fridge is no longer under warranty.
What type of customer service is this? Based on internet research I just did, this seems to be a fairly common problem with these refrigerators and there appears to be a fairly simple way to fix it, thanks to free advice posted to various websites. It is truly unacceptable for the company to not want to address and help out their customers with a simple issue like this which, by the way, is caused by a flaw in their product since this handle was loose from day one and only got worse over time.

We bought two lemons from Fisher and Paykel in 2007. We bought the extended warranties. The washing machine, around $700, has a water pump that is slowly dying. So, A&E Factory Service (via Lowe's Service Advantage) ordered the part and will repair it "once it finally quits completely"--about a $300 job. The part is sitting on our shelf. I had three visits to the house before someone could diagnose this problem. The dryer, worth $770, has already had or just over $500 worth of work done on it.
We called ** to see if we could get a new machine, as stated in our extended warranty contract. A manager said that our claim had been denied because it wasn't "economically feasible" for them. The dryer still isn't fixed. The A&E Service person has to break the inside of the dryer because a screw won't come out. The first repair that we had done was the temperature sensor. We spent a few hundred dollars for this repair.
This time, the plastic parts are warping due to the heat in the dryer (what?) and they are bending, not allowing the lint bucket to be removed for cleaning. The inside dryer wall lint screen has a huge tear in it (a huge fire hazard as the lint was packed in around internal wires), which I can only assume was there when we bought the machine because, until now, the dryer side has never been opened.
We want to buy another brand of dryer and dump this one. We're terribly disappointed in Lowe's and their "Service Department." The good news is that our warranty is good until 10/2013 so bring it on. We'll keep getting these machines repaired, then, hopefully, dump them in 2013.

We are so sorry to hear of all your trouble. You comments have been forwarded to the executive offices at A & E and Lowes. If you would like to discuss this further with us (Fisher & Paykel) please call our customer service manager at 949-790-8900 ext 3401. Sincerely, FISHER & PAYKEL USA

Fisher Paykel is a horrible washer/dryer. I purchased it on summer 2007 (it's 3 1/2 yrs old now). I have always felt like it didn't clean my clothes like my old washer/dryer did. I am finally looking online to see what is going on and I'm not alone. This is my first complaint I have ever posted in my life but felt I had to save others from buying this too. You can't wash in "cold" it should be "warm/cold". I want to know how is this energy efficient? You should use powdered detergent not liquid or it will cause more slim to build up. I never knew this. You should do a clean cycle every week. What good is "eco-friendly" if you have to fill the tank up once a week with hot water & Clorox just to clean the washing machine. I'm also looking for a new washer/dryer set and I'm having trouble finding the regular washing machines. Many who sell washing machines are saying lots of people are having trouble with the energy efficient types (many are breaking, they don't clean well, and too many computer parts break). What happened to the kind our mothers had? That's what I want - but they're not out there.

The plastic tub parts have broken, and most recently (today), a temperature sensor failed, and the upper unit started to smoke. When this happened previously, I followed the advice of customer service which was to turn the power off at the source for a short while, then re-power and run a cycle. It worked the first time, but not this time. I fear the unit is dead, and out of warranty. 4 years - way too short a time to replace a dish washer, but that's what I think we will do.

I have the Fisher and Paykel 2 drawer dishwashers. I called customer service to ask it there were other options for the dish drawer because the tines are so close together, bowls don't fit very well and I can't put many dishes in the drawers. She said there weren't any options and I said, "Well. I don't like the dish drawers because of this." She said. "Well, I guess you should have done more research before you bought the dish drawers!" I was appalled at her response (and yes that is true). Had I realized the tines are impossibly designed as to fit bowls, I would have never bought these dish drawers.

It was the same part twice but the second time the wrapper was destroyed per the technician. Fisher & Paykel said it was still fixable even though technician said housing and all was cracked. After going back and forth for several weeks, Fisher & Paykel told us to call the technician back and have him call them from our house. Each visit from the technician is a minimum of $100. Fisher & Paykel said it was not their problem although supposedly, it was under warranty since this was the second repair for the same job within 2 years. Jump ahead many calls, they admitted the wringer was defective, and finally replaced it. No new problems. Asked for compensation for ruined items. I believe that the investment of a Fisher Paykel product should have lasted longer than 2 years. The service technician said that this happens to this particular model, but it usually happens before the warranty runs out. I have already had the diverter valve replaced. After buying this DD Dishwasher 5 1/2 years ago at Lowe’s with 2-year warranty and tax ($1,653.76), the unit went dead just before the warranty expired on Thanksgiving—of all days. It did take awhile to get a repair person here and to get the parts, but all was covered under the warranty. The service repair person was not very knowledgeable and had to call F&P for help. Very rarely do I use the bottom drawer and have been noticing water in it. The top draw is that I have been noticing the dishes have been coming out the same way they were put in. I have been putting off repair since the warranty has been up for 3 years now. I checked online for a repair company (Immediate Appliance) that knows the brand and found a very nice one and they came today. Only one day since I've called them. Impressive.
They came today and checked it out. Checked the arms, motors, catch baskets and under the metal trays. He was very surprised at how clean the units were. I wash my dishes with soap before I put them in—I know, then why have a dishwasher? After he ran a rinse, he told me it was the motors and lids on both. Remember, I don’t use the bottom one but four or five times a year. The top and bottom need to be replaced. He told me to take note of the white residue built up around the edges of the draws. He said the white motors were a defective model and the new ones will be black.
Total repair and cost is $620.06. If these are defective parts and have been causing the problems, why doesn’t the company stand behind their parts and replace them? I want to put the thing to the curb, but my husband wants to repair it. I should have checked out this website first and stuck to my guns on another dishwasher. Now, a dishwasher for $2,200-plus for 5 1/2 years is just insane.

After spending some time researching to purchase a washer and dryer set, we were intrigued by the apparently innovative designs offered by Fisher & Paykel, such as low water usage, high drum speed, low noise, light weight, as well as a top loading dryer. So in July 2008, we purchased their Intuitive Model washer and dryer set. Within two months the nightmare started. The dryer started to make loud, grinding noises. In less than two years the dryer bearing was replaced four times! Multiple e-mails and phone calls requesting a replacement or a permanent fix resulted in just offering a new bearing and a let's-wait-and-see approach. Now the bearing is leaking grease and discoloring the clothes. We believe they have no solution.

Hello Ardy,
Thank you for your comments. We are very happy to hear of your recent purchase. As with all appliance manufactures, we will run promotions from time to time. I purchased the Fisher and Paykel double dishwasher drawers against my better judgement. With a newer style product it is always better to wait until kinks are worked out. But I loved the idea of being able to run a smaller load of dishes per day, rather than wait days for a full load to run. I bought the curved front model for its looks and just a few months into the purchase, the exterior top piece with the control buttons started pitting and getting discolored. I immediately regretted my decision and contacted the company. They told me that I could buy replacement pieces for an unreasonable sum per unit and that I must have used a harsh abrasive cleaner, which I did not. And for the price of a competitor's less expensive model (several hundred dollars) I could swap out the fronts entirely for the stainless steel model without the plastic curved part, or the kit to attach a custom door panel.
motor because I switched them to try.
The longer I have it, the worse it gets. Sometimes the dishes are clean, sometimes they aren't. Sometimes they dry, sometimes they don't. I feel like I was scammed, when I thought I was buying a product that would last me for years and I was really proud of it. I am ready to drag this unit to the curb. For what I will pay for a repair and probably another motor at this point, I could buy the same builder grade cheapo model that I had, which worked sufficiently for eight years without a glitch.

That is, if you're right there, because it rarely runs through a cycle without getting off balance, especially sheets, they wad up like a lump of rags no matter which cycle you use. It is extremely hard on the clothes and has wore them out faster than any machine I have ever used. It clanks like it's on its last leg and I doubt that it will last very long. It has put black marks on the clothes that do not come out, I don't know what that is. All said, this is without a doubt the worst washer I have ever used in all my 72 years. Repair records sent to Fisher Paykal, which showed no customer fault on parts. Fisher Paykal would only pay for part replacement only, retail cost of part $89.00. I would be out $166.00. Machine cost $750.00, add repairs $245 & $166 = $1161.00. Somehow I don't feel it would be a good idea to throw good money after bad. Seventeen months ago, I walked into our local appliance store set on purchasing a new front loader washer & dryer set. I'd researched & compared numerous brands for several months and I was well informed on the set I had chosen and I had cash in hand, ready to purchase. While there, a friend of mine had just been given the sales pitch for a Fisher Paykel set. I'd never heard of the company but after my friend told me about them, I was interested. I spoke to the store owner who told me if I bought the set and used it for 30 days then decided I didn't like it, I could return it for a full credit toward the set I originally intended to buy. The Fisher Paykel set was less expensive but seemed to be more what I was looking for.
I took it home, kept it and have loved it until 2 weeks ago. I began smelling a "hot" smell and the entire inside of the washing machine was black from smoke. The repairman said it was the motor. I waited two weeks for it to arrive and as soon as it was installed and the machine turned on, smoke started all over again. The repairman contacted Fisher Paykel who advised him to run a test on. Guess what, the pump! Just like everyone else on this site! The pump was faulty and while they were testing it, the board took a power surge and burned out. Now I'm out a board and pump and will wait another week or so until the new parts arrive. When I bought my set, the store owner told me they almost never have to repair these machines. I find it hard to believe that I'm the only person in the US who has a fairly new machine that has a faulty pump, motor, and board.
After reading this website, I'm concerned about how many pumps have gone out on other machines. Also, many people have had numerous problems with apparently, the lack of good customer service. I was planning to purchase a Fisher Paykel dishwasher next month and it is more than twice the price of my 2nd choice. If this company is no better than what is portrayed on this site, I'm re-thinking my future purchase. Everyone seems to be having the same problems, makes me wonder.

I bought a Fisher & Paykel washing machine in 2005. I had it about 1 1/2 to 2 years and the pump went out. Since that time, I've had the same problem with the washing machine two more times, the last time being July 2010. It was repaired for the 3rd time (the "repair process" took two weeks), and I washed 2 loads of clothes, then it quit running completely. The repairman came out again, and decided that it was the control board. A control board was ordered and was installed (this process took another 3 weeks). This, however, did not fix the machine. I was told that the control board was defective and that another one would have to be ordered, and was promised that since I had been without a washing machine for 5 weeks that the part would be overnighted, and the repairman would "work me in" once the part was in.
However, after several days without hearing from anyone, I called to check on the status of the order. I was told that the part was not ordered for several days, and it was not overnighted. So, by the time the part comes in, and by the time someone can be scheduled to come to my house, I would have been without my washing machine for 7 weeks. Fortunately, I did buy an extended warranty, so they have been paying for everything (the warranty company has paid $524.20 so far to repair a washing machine that I paid just over $600 for). I think I bought a lemon and my washing machine should be replaced, but I'm afraid now that the warranty company has paid so much money to get it repaired (a supervisor at the warranty company told me how much had been paid out so far), that they will not replace the washing machine. Also, it should not take 7 weeks to get a washing machine repaired!

I purchased a Fisher Paykel washing machine on 6/10. I paid over $500 for this machine. Twice, I have had a repairman here, because the water would not pump out. Twice, the drum came off the spring. After one visit, I went and did a load of laundry to come back, and find the basement had an inch of water. After the last visit I have been told it would be over $500 to replace the four shock absorbers and the pump. I am not about to invest another penny into a machine that so far has cost me over $800. The nightmare goes on.

Our Fisher Paykel washer and dryer cost us $1,400 about 2 1/2 years ago. We wanted something we could depend on that was energy efficient. They are worthless pieces of crap. The dryer constantly breaks down and we take it apart and clean it all up and replace parts about everything in 3 months. The company will not give us our money back and will not pay for the parts. The dryer takes forever to dry clothes and literally bakes them. We are very, very frustrated. The washer doesn't clean as well as my 15-year old Speed Queen did and it was still running after 15 years when we sold it. I never did anything to it, except kept it clean and maintained. We take care of what we own.

Hello Dixie,
Thank you for your comments.
Although Fisher & Paykel products are manufactured to the most exacting standards and the highest quality parts are used, there is of course an element of fair wear and tear which occurs in all manufactured products.
We are sure you will appreciate that any manufactured appliance is a compilation of numerous parts. As time passes, some of these parts may require repair or replacement as a result of usage. This service or "maintenance" work does not mean that the appliance has reached the end of it's life or that it will not continue to function for many more years.
We are sorry you've had a problem. Due to the age of the product, we feel the difficulty is not related to a manufacturing or assembly defect.
Please call our customer service department should you have any questions, or additional comments.

I got 10 loads (if that) out of it and now it has stopped taking in water. It says it's filling, but isn't. I've checked all possible "normal" issues but after googling again, it seems I need either a solenoid or the water inlet valve replaced. This is getting ridiculous. I have a Fisher Paykel Dishdrawer that is 4 years old. It quit working. Tech ordered new optical reader. They discovered after totally dismantling it, that the optical reader had become misaligned over years, due to original equipment manufacture defect. My tech from Dalton's created temporary fix with a twistie-tie. I discussed it with Fisher Paykel tech, who after hearing solution deemed it satisfactory and hung up, and refused to provide his name! I contacted F-P customer service 5/6/2010, waited for response but didn't receive any. I called back on 6/30/2010, still didn't get any response.
Today, I was told by Kiley, the supervisor who refused to disclose her last name, that they will not assist in replacing, since the dish drawer is out of warranty. I told her it is unacceptable, and that I would pay half, if they could pay the other half. Per Kiley "we will not be assisting with this product". I challenged her with the recording where FP goes on about "Integrity best part of any business relationship and Fisher Paykel stands behind its products". Ha! Obviously not.
In addition, certainly a "customer service" supervisor, should be proud enough of her firm, to not be scared to provide her name, especially when she is in New Zealand! This is another sample of standing behind her product? To all potential buyers beware, this company does not build quality products, and does not inspect its products, and obviously, has no integrity, other than lip service.
I now have paid for 2 service calls to repair this defective product, and must now replace it at an estimated cost of $700-$900. I will be glad to pursue legal action against this firm.

We purchased the Ecosmart washer and Smartload dryer in December 2009. The dryer has never gotten hot enough to dry even a medium load in one cycle. It had been a boon to our electric bill and the lint trap doesn't collect lint very well. Our clothes also stink when we take them out if we don't use several softener sheets. The "stainless steel" drum actually seems to be made of plastic, which is logical due to the mechanism used to close the dryer so the drum can rotate. But it does not conduct heat well enough to dry anything and metal snaps and buttons are always cool to the touch when the cycle ends. We regret not returning it in the available time and will be buying a cheap dryer to replace it with since we're sure it'll be better than having enormous electric bills every month from running this machine 2-3 times to dry one load.

In April 2010, the circuit board went out on the washer. It took five weeks for a new one. The service man replaced it and the new one went out while he was still here. I am impressed by the research in developing the sophisticated wash cycles, but decided to ditch the washer and dryer and bought a Samsung which is rated by J. D. Powers as number one for reliability. Consumer Reports, etc., test the unit for function but Powers tells you about the reliability from people like us. No more Fisher and Paykel. FP engineers don't design the washers well and that is a shame because the research guys in their company do a great job of development. From the comments I am seeing and the shrinking number of dealers in the US, I think we won't see much of the Fisher and Paykel group for a long time.

Hello Walter,
We regret that you've had a problem with your washing machine. At Fisher & Paykel we take pride in the quality of our appliances and we make every effort to have them remain trouble free for many years. However, with the use of mechanical and electronic parts there are times when one may malfunction and require repair. We are not sure what happened with regard to why it took so long to have the part replaced. An average waiting time for any service to be completed on a washer (start to finish) is somewhere between 7-10 business days, so 5 weeks to get a part and get your product repaired does seem excessive. There are sometimes factors, such as: The service company not ordering the parts on time, or scheduling delays that can make completion times take longer (and should be taken into consideration by the consumer). We are sorry of the position you have taken with regard to your future purchases and hope that one day the many features and benefits of Fisher & Paykel appliances may attract you back to our products.

We were assured when purchasing the goods that service would not be an issue. Fisher and Paykel have the most unreliable products and their service standards match this. A Fisher & Paykel fridge came with our new home. Approximately six months after moving in, the ice maker and water dispenser stopped working. I called F&P, as well as checked the troubleshooting tips in the manuals, to no avail.
A local service company responded quickly, and identified a problem with the parts. I was told parts were to be ordered and it would take several days to a couple of weeks. Apparently, the parts are not available, and the fridge and freezer are not repairable. The service company requested a Replacement Authorization (RA), over one month ago from F&P.
I've made repeated calls to F&P, and the service company. Last week I was promised that an RA number had been provided, and I should expect to see a replacement fridge unit either this past Friday or Saturday. I called F&P again today, and was advised that they have just provided authorization to their US counterparts. The US, in turn, has to notify the Canadian distribution etc., so it will be at least another seven to ten days. It's very frustrating to wait five weeks for a non-working fridge and freezer to be replaced and repeatedly having to chase down the complaint and still no resolution.

Thank you for your feedback.
We show the product was replaced on 5/29/10. We understand that you had use of the refrigerator during this time and it was cooling, but that the ice maker was the issue. It appears as though the process to replace it once the approval was given was within a reasonable amount of time. I bought the dish drawers in Nov., 2009 & had it installed in my new house. I had loved the set I'd had in my previous house and couldn't wait to get another set. The top drawer broke down before Thanksgiving and so I was without it over that holiday with company. The heater plate in the bottom drawer broke down before Christmas so I was without it for another holiday with company. That was replaced and broke down, so I was without it for the New Year holiday. All in all, the heater plates in both drawers have been replaced as have the controllers in both drawers. This has necessitated 6 service calls. The first time I used the bottom drawer after the heater plate was replaced there, it broke down. When the service tech from the company where I bought the dish drawers was in my home, he called F/P and was told to try replacing the fan. This would have been the 5th part to be replaced in a brand new machine! I said 'no' and called F/P myself and said I wanted a new machine. I was told that as long as a part could be replaced, they would not replace the machine. The company I bought the machine from also called F/P and was told the same thing. I've been without the use of my dishwasher more often than I've been able to use it! I think it's understandable that I don't believe that replacing the fan in the bottom drawer would be the last of the break-downs. Is the fan in the upper drawer next? Then what? At this point, I wouldn't have another set of dish drawers from them if they did offer it. It seems that as long as a part can be replaced, there's no limit on how many they will do. I will never buy from them again and will take every opportunity to tell of the dirty way they treated me.
I paid $1,000 for a dish washing machine that is worthless. I will replace this piece of junk with another brand at my own cost. Fisher&Paykel say they are a company with integrity and that customer service is important to them. They show no integrity and don't care about their customers (even if they are repeat customers). Stay away from this company's products!

The repair man came. The main board on machine was melted. The repair man came back 2 weeks later after ordering parts out of Australia and replaced them. The washer still did not drain water out of tub. The motor is fried and now has to be replaced along with some other parts because it apparently is leaking also around a seal. I never noticed water on floor .However, you can see where the water leaked out when you look at the drain hose under the washer. Thank God the warranty is still in place. The two parts that have already been put on were a total of $600; that is as much as I gave for the washer. Now the motor and other piece has to be replaced under warranty again, thank God. Warranty expired 7 months ago, needless to say, we were rather upset, but I was willing to give Fisher & Paykel a chance at redemption. Well, I can say I am somewhat impressed. The dishdrawers' racks are broken and it doesn't do a good job of cleaning the dishes. The outside grill is falling apart, the knobs are broken, the ignitor doesn't work, the light doesn't work.
I called an authorized Fisher & Paykel repair service to look at just the oven and cooktop. I was given an estimate of $600 to do the repairs on these two items. I paid $85.00 to hear this. I contacted Fisher & Paykel and was told the repairs would be out of warranty. I complained and was told to have a repair man come to my home and call Fisher & Paykel's technical department. They gave me the names of two repair services in my area. One place never returned my call, the other repair service said they would call me to let me know when they would be in the area (by the way, I called two weeks ago). I called the repair service on Monday to find out if they were ever going to be in my area and got an answering machine.
I left a message and heard back from them on Wednesday and was told they would be here on Friday. I asked if they could come in the morning because I have an appointment on Friday afternoon and was told they don't begin working until the afternoon. I refused to cancel my appointment and said I would find someone else. I found the name of different repair services in my area and got one to come to my house today. I called Fisher & Paykel for the repair man to speak to them and Fisher & Paykel said they weren't an authorized Fisher & Paykel repair service and they couldn't deal with him.
I explained to the Fisher & Paykel representative that this was the only response I got after calling their recommended repair service, I also explained about the repair service that didn't start working until the afternoon. I didn't get anywhere and had to pay another $85.00 to hear what pieces of junk I have. Fisher & Paykel is supposed to contact me with other repair services and I haven't heard from them yet. I would like to know why I have to use an authorized repair service and not an unauthorized Fisher & Paykel repair service.

First, I'd like to say why do people complain when things go wrong or break down? You never hear of the good things. We live in a throw away society. A lot of products from appliances to DVD players aren't made to last like those 20 years ago. Nobody is perfect and no machine will ever be perfect. In my family, we have always had F&P gear and nothing ever went wrong with them. If you got a dish drawer from F&P and it has needed servicing 6-7 times in 2 years. Contact the company you bought it from and ask for a replacement instead of wasting everybody's time. If your car breaks down 6-7 times in 2 years for the same problem, most people would contact the mechanic and get the problem sorted once and for all without having to pay for the cost.
The call center to F&P is located to 3 areas in Australia and 2 in NZ (Auckland and Dunedin). The amount of calls they receive in a day from all round the whole globe is like that of any bank call center. Calls usually take bout 20 minutes to go through every detail of the client. If you can't get through, sit down and hold tight, your call will be answered (impatient people never get through). Last but not the least, if you have a complaint to an appliance, instead of writing Bollocks on an unsupported website, try laying a complaint with the manufacturer and at least you will be taken seriously and the issue can not only be resolved but the company can investigate these problems for themselves.

This is not a complaint. Quite the contrary. I am currently a resident of Australia for 20 years (previously 20 years in New Zealand). I have owned and operated Fisher & Pykell fridge and washing machine without any concerns. My current washing machine, bought 10 years ago, was bought when my marriage broke up. I have no complaint about that. My fridge, recently sold to upgrade, is still going after 12 years. I am not the only person to be totally happy with his F&P purchases.

In traditional designs, sealing is only required at the door. In the FP DD, each tub has a motorized lid/seal that clamps down on the tub when it is in its home position. Additionally, because the tubs/drawer withdraw from the unit, it requires that the power, water supply line, and water discharge line to each tub be of a flexible/foldable design to allow the drawers to be pulled out and pushed back in. This is a much more challenging and complex design to accomplish compared to a single door design. I would fault some of the choices of materials in some key places, particularly the all-plastic link-support wand of the earlier models that will break after a period of time.
Newer models were upgraded to a metal wand. In my case, the wands had both broken, and this allowed the rear portion of the wand to occasionally lay on top of the tub when the drawer was closed, and then get trapped when the lid clamped down, leaving a small gap that water escaped from and eventually triggering the F1 flood error code. Replacing both wands with the newer versions, sponged up the excess water, blew out the excess water with a leaf blower (hair dryer will also work but is slower) and allowed the unit to dry out for 24 hours. Replaced the drawers back onto their glides, plugged it back in and it's working fine.
Total cost: $55 parts and shipping. On another note, if you always have water remaining in your tubs at end of cycle, whoever installed your unit did not route the discharge lines correctly. There is a "loop" bracket that must be positioned at the correct height relative to the drain connection, and the excess discharge lines trimmed correctly to enable a correct suction to allow the tubs to drain completely. I found and corrected this error on a friend's brand new unit and eliminated the problem. If you start to get water discharge into the other tub when running a cycle, there is an obstruction in the discharge lines where they "T" together and connect into the house drain. Any obstruction, even partial, will allow water to be pumped up to the T and then be diverted back up the other discharge line and into the other tub. Clear the obstruction and this problem will go away. The two most important pieces of advice I can give DD owners are to rinse the dishes of large food debris before loading and, secondly, clean the unit occasionally! The filter catch tray monthly, more often if the unit is used heavily. Learn how to remove everything in the tubs at least once a year for cleaning. You will be surprised at what you find on the underside of the stainless tray! If you don't, all this stuff ultimately comes loose and is pumped down the discharge lines where it can obstruct the T junction, causing pressure backups and leaks. Also, periodically clean the top of the tubs where the lid seals mate. After several years you may need to use a decalcification solution to remove buildup that can cause poor sealing, followed by--you guessed it, leaks!
Bottom line, don't expect this unit to act as a garbage disposal, clean it periodically, and it will treat you well.

Purchased these appliances when we moved to our new home in January 2008. The washer throws water on the floor if I have a very heavy load in it. The dryer kept having a noise. I had repairman here 3 times. He finally brought a Fisher & Paykel rep with him and he could not find my problem either; he replaced my dryer. That was late January 2010. In March, the new dryer started having a noise (sounds like a knock) after it heats up and now I am told there is no warranty on the new dryer. I would never buy another product from this company.

Double dish drawer dishwasher. We purchased the extended warranty (thank goodness) and have another year to go on it. When we first began to have problems with the dishwasher, we contacted the appliance store where we purchased. Since we had the extended warranty, it was processed through a different corporation. It took days for them to get anyone in our area approved to repair the dishwasher. Unfortunately, when the repairman came out the parts were computer modules on both drawers. It took weeks for the repair parts to be shipped from New Zealand. There is only one place in the US that handles all the repair parts for Fisher and Paykel. Must be a real run on repair parts if they can't keep them stocked.
Then we encountered the same problem again. The repairman came out and repaired them again. And, yes, the repairman tends to side with the company. They are the ones getting paid by the company, and since they are the store that sold it I am sure they have their reasons. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, we have had to ask for the same repairs a third time. What are the odds of this happening 3 times in 9 months? This company (Fisher and Paykel) is not reputable, their products are made poorly, and I am so tired of having it down--especially tough during canning season last year.
So far every repair has been paid for under warranty. But the dishwasher has ruined my pots and pans and their finish. It has ruined our plates and glassware with the filming and ruined finish. I will have to purchase all new plates and glassware when we finally have to get a new dishwasher. I have had my Mirror pressure cooker for over 40 years. The finish on it has never had a problem until this dishwasher. It has ruined the metal. The handles on all of my pots and pans and utensils are ruined. How can one brand of dishwasher cause so many problems to items that have been useful and still have years ahead of them? It is mind boggling. You get into reading all their fine print, and sure enough they say that the dishwasher can have adverse effects on certain types of dishes. Hurray for them! (That was sarcasm.)

We bought the Fisher and Paykel washer and dryer less than two years ago. The dryer was not processing lint properly (it was storing it up in and around the lint filter box not in it). Also, there was a burning smell one day and the shiny interior of the drum was suddenly discolored. F&P covered the repair person replacing the drum and thermostats (apparently there are two of those). The new drum is a dull finish. I called to find out why it isn't shiny anymore and a very young and snotty customer service "lady" stated that she didn't see what the problem was as long as the clothes dried. I had to press her to the point of feeling exhausted to find out why the change.
Finally, a technician that I was not permitted to speak to (and I have to assume actually exits) told her there were problems with uniform drying from the shiny drum so they changed that. Also, the washing machine was always going out of balance and tossing water out onto the floor. This may help others having this problem. We found that you have to really play with the adjustable legs until you get it to the perfect set up then all that stops. Heaven forbid, you move your machine though (mark the floor). Also, try to keep the dryer hose to the outside as short as possible, as the dryer is seriously fussy about getting rid of lint.
Things seem to be working okay for now. I often run an extra rinse and spin on the clothes mainly because I have many pets but also because I didn't feel like all the detergent was coming out (I use only two tablespoons of a natural brand from the health food store which is low sudsing so I don't think it is the detergent). I usually put a little white vinegar in the extra rinse since we are not allowed to use fabric softener in these machines and I have not yet found a natural dryer sheet I like.
Seems like a lot of quirky stuff to deal with but our old set was the Neptune (also known as the moldtune), so it is still an improvement though my experience with F&P customer service is that they would test the patience of a saint. I remember my mother using a barrel-type washer and a hand ringer afterwards and she was always so relaxed and the laundry was always so clean and fresh. Makes me question technology and progress. And my folks never went into debt to buy a washer and dryer.

The first dishwasher was replaced for a faulty seal. My cost was service call and it took away $198 and $40. The second dishwasher is a nightmare. Insides fall apart and the plastic panel painted to match the stainless requires two cleaning products. I didn't know it was plastic, so now I have pitted grudge above each drawer. Customer service is snotty, defensive and doesn't give one flying rat’s ** about how anyone regards the product. Frankly, I hope I don't have a service person try and sell me one again. I have a washer dryer by them and they are great. Why they don't give more attention to customer service and the quality of the product on the dishwasher is beyond me.
This resulted to expense of service calls. I have had four. I now have a Fisher bleep that requires another service call, so I just use the other drawer. I am single and use the darn thing once every other day. God forbid I had a family. Time is money. I shouldn't have to give up my sales time to sit and wait for repair people. I paid $40.00 a service call each time someone came out plus the take away charge. We have to give them a three-hour window, so figure the loss.

We too were told that Fisher Paykel products were top of the line. So four years ago when we moved to our new home we bought all Fisher Paykel appliances - oven, stove top, double drawer dishwasher, washer and dryer (thank goodness they didn't carry the type of refrigerator we wanted). The stove top constantly clicks, the oven takes 'forever' to heat up to even 300, we've had to have our dishwasher repaired twice, the washer doesn't get our clothes clean and today the dryer went out for the fourth time.
Tomorrow, we are buying a basic American made clothes dryer that I know will last more than three years (that was when our dryer went out the first time). I am not going to sink another dime in repairs for any of this junk. Customer service is unknown to this company. Never ever will I buy or recommend Fisher Paykel to anyone. These appliances are very expensive. Parts and repair service is expensive. We are both retired on fixed, limited incomes and thought that buying what we thought were top of the line appliances would pay for themselves by their reliability. Now we are faced with repair bills or replacement bills that we struggle to meet.

The double dishwasher is a great concept that absolutely does not deliver. From day one, the dishes have never been clean unless I scrub them before putting them in the drawer. Neither drawer reliably drains, leaving a stinking, unsanitary layer of 1" deep water in the drawer. The top drawer has broken down several times and the reason is always "operator error." Sometimes, the drawers won't unlock. Exactly the same complaints others have mentioned above. The stove top clicks endlessly. It's so annoying I can't use some of the burners. I would never buy or recommend a Fisher Paykel product again and look forward to replacing mine and having functional appliances again.

My husband and I purchased a Fisher and Paykel clothes dryer from Lowes in October 2008. On the anniversary date in October 2009, I made a call to the repairman for the third time. I also purchased the extended warranty. I was told that if a repair has to be made for the third time for the same repair, then we would be able to get another dryer, even another brand. This was basically ignored.
When this dryer is working properly it does not get things dry. The timed drying is slightly better than the censored drying cycle. If I have a lot of laundry, it is actually quicker to hang things up to dry. The sales person said that the lint was scraped into a bucket when actually it is blown into this bucket.
Our old dryer lasted for years. We had hoped that if we purchased a high end dryer that it would last us for a long time. The cost of this dryer was substantial. The loss of the money we wasted on a Fisher Paykel dryer would have purchased another brand with money to spare and would have preformed better!

Each year they were under warranty, the company fixed them but the minute they went out of warranty, the cost to fix exceeded the cost to purchase. Customer service representatives are totally rude. The products are nothing but garbage. Do no buy Fisher Paykel. They do not stand behind their product. You cannot get a guarantee after the original warranty period is up. This is our second repair experience and I feel lucky after reading all of the other postings.
Since we are still under warranty for a few more months we can hang on until the warranty expires before replacing this appliance. I was sold on the "draw" concept, but reliability on this machine is terrible. The customer service representative also indicated that most problems with the machines are because of operator error. I am wondering how difficult it is to load a dishwasher and put in the powder, but apparently, they feel that this is the source of all of the "F1" difficulties. We will never buy any of these products again.

Fisher and Paykel. Nothing but Rubbish! I purchased an expensive Fisher & Paykel frig that made loud crackling noises in the casing and barely kept the food cold. I rang the company and they told me that their products never break down and if they came out and checked it and there was nothing wrong, I would be up for exorbitant costs.
I later asked my air-conditioner installer at another time to look at it. His gauges showed that the frig was warm. He refused to fix it because he told me in his opinion the Fisher and Paykel brand was the worst in the world and that they used old technology but trendy styling and expensive marketing to trick the public. He advised me to throw the frig in a ditch and buy something else.
I spoke to several second hand retailers and new appliances retailers and they also advised me to stay clear of this brand. I eventually traded it in for another brand frig that really does cool down the food, and noticed that my electricity bill also went down by half immediately. About 2 years ago, I moved into another house that came with all Fisher and Paykel appliances. Over the next 18 months, they all broke. There were: the dryer, the frig, the freezer, the bar frig, and the dishwasher. I bought a replacement Fisher and Paykel frig that had to be repaired 11 months after purchase. That is a total of 7 Fisher and Paykel appliances that broke down over a 3-year period. So what do I think of Fisher and Paykel? Stay away from them, especially now that part of the company has been sold to China. The excess electricity I paid during the use of the first frig came to about $4000 dollars plus the original cost of the frig at $1800, plus the cost of a replacement frig is another $1200. The replacements and repairs for the other 5 appliances came to another $4000. Total money wasted because of Fisher and Paykel appliances is $11,000.

The range is unreliable, with several reoccurring repair issues. The most notable being, the broiler, the burners and the oven temperature control. There is always something malfunctioning or breaking all together. I have never experienced such a low quality product and want to warn others. It is not an inexpensive product and due to its poor quality, be prepared to pay regular, high repair costs as Fisher Paykel who does not back up evident quality and design flaws. Service people will confirm that DCS ranges require service often and are difficult to fix (more time and money) and expensive to fix due to poor design and unreliable construction.
The broiler is very poorly designed as are the burners. A vital operating piece (glass ignition) is not protected and breaks for normal oven use. The electric ignition of the burners often break. I've had the oven temperature regulator replaced but it still is inaccurate and inconsistent. Everything takes longer. We spent over $6500 thinking it would be a high quality, commercial grade range. The only redeeming quality is that it looks nice. Before you buy, research what other owners have said on the internet. Clearly there are many dissatisfied owners with horrible product and company complaints. The company is clearly as broken as the products. They do not recognize inherent engineering and design issues. Invest wisely and stay away from DCS! I don't think they will be in business much. That's the only bright side!

Fisher & Paykel DEGX1 dryer purchased almost 2 years ago. There is a recent post which sounded much like our experience. It is impossible to get anywhere and impossible to get anyone to expect the people who can't help and never return your call, even when they say they will. We have been without a dryer for over a month. They, Ed the customer service guy in the U.S., finally approved a replacement dryer over three weeks ago. Where is the new dryer? They can't tell me a delivery date, a person in the U.S. to talk to, nothing.
In the meantime, my dryer sits in my laundry room completely taken apart, the drum is on the floor outside the dryer. We are a family of 5 and needless to say a horrible experience. I will never, never, never purchase another Fisher & Paykel product and I will always caution people against the company. The company reported lower sales, hooray! Being in the medical field, I promise I will tell as many as I can. Do not buy from Fisher & Paykel!

We purchased a $600 Fisher Paykel EcoSmart GWL11 in Dec 03. It ran great for about 4 years. Then in Apr ’08, we had a pump seal leak into the motor causing a short of the circuit board. It cost $377 to repair. Then Jul ’09, we had to have water valve replaced for $218. So, the now $1,200 investment has failed again. It looks like the circuit board again will need replacing for another $400.
We are a family of 4 with fairly normal laundry habits. So needless to say, we are very disappointed in the cost of this machine. When it works, it is a great machine with lots of features, but 5 years of service for $1,200 is just not EcoSmart. I’m not a happy customer. We'll be shopping for other products now.

I bought a Fisher Paykel GWL15US small washing machine 4-5 years ago as I was attracted to the direct drive motor system. Today, December 4, 2009, the unit has been making grinding/clicking noises in wash cycle and we have concerns. After reading other comments, we will probably trash this unit and spend the money on a cheap standard American made rebuilt unit, as they have always lasted 10-15 years easy. As an appliance & plumbing service tech, I used to recommend these units because of the direct drive system, but I was unaware of the customer service issues and lack of assistance from F.P.

Fisher & Paykel could care less, the "authorized repair center" is getting a bad rap because they have to buy overpriced parts and spend a lot of time rebuilding a machine that shouldn't have fallen apart after such a short time. Customer service representatives are abysmal. I am a custom home builder and used to recommend Fisher & Paykel appliances to all of my customers because they seemed to be cutting edge and well made. I was terribly mistaken and will never recommend them again. Exorbitant repair bills, burned lint as a result of design flaws ruined about $500.00 worth of clothes by leaving black soot lines on the clothes.

After my own experience and reading some of these others, I see that Fisher & Paykel really do give the consumer the run around. I’m not imagining it! My $800 dryer broke after only 4 years and I used the repair shop that the F&P company recommended when I called as I live in a very rural area. The repairman told me that this model dryer (DEG-X1) has a faulty heating element and he would order an upgrade kit for it that the company had let him know was available. Sure enough, the heater element was shot when he took it out, (I took pictures of it with all its broken springs), and the bearing was worn out which is why it was so noisy. The large ring lint filter was also broken, which is why it collected so little lint, most of it flying out the vent.
This after only 4 years for laundry for a family of 4. The cost of the parts? $240.00 plus labor. So, my $800 dryer cost $500 to fix 4 years later. The repairman recommended I call the company and try to get reimbursed for parts. I was told by F&P they never reimburse a customer no matter what and I should not have paid if I did not like the price. Finally, the woman on the phone told me she would consult with managers and get back to me in 3 days - that never happened. A week and half later I called her back - same woman. It was clear she had just blown me off and had no intention of helping me and made it clear that would not change. Meanwhile, the old cheap American made dryer this one had replaced had been 12 years old when it started to go. I don't know which was worse, the unit or the customer service. Fisher & Paykel was definitely not worth the money. This is a lot of money to pay to repair a 4-year old dryer. I did it because I live in a state park area with no public laundromats.

I have had the F1 complaint numerous times. I have the double drawer dishwasher. It was replaced about two years ago because the other one had been recalled as the metal outside had been bad. Well, after a month and $250 to install, we got the new machine. I think I have done about ten loads in the thing in two years. F1 is so bad I have to cut power to it to get it to shut up. Luckily, we have an American dishwasher that just keeps on chugging along. I just left the repair person and it is another $350 to fix when the parts come in. From looking at this website, after this no more money will go into this machine. I will rip it out and landfill the thing. I have also found their customer service to be rude, short and unsympathetic about this. I, too, am up for a class action suit. Perhaps we should start with Lowe’s who tout us this is the best machine around. Why are they selling this junk anymore?

I bought a Fisher & Paykel dishwasher about 2 years ago from a local appliance store and it is the biggest piece of ** I have ever bought! I am 51 years old and have owned 6 homes and have had all different brands of dishwashers, but I have never had to have one serviced until I bought a Fisher & Paykel. I have had this dishwasher serviced 6-7 times in the last 2 years for pretty much the same problem (the famous F1 code). I finally called the company, who, by the way, must be all from Australia and very rude on the phone. As soon as I told the girl that I think that I got a lemon, she said she could not talk to me anymore because I said lemon, and that someone from their head office would call me.
You would think that after all the trouble I have had with the machine that they would want to replaced it knowing that there have been so many problems. Apparently, several other people that I have read about are having the same problem with the famous F1 code. They have terrible customer service and do not want to admit when there is a problem. I am still waiting for a response from them. They have 48 hours. I would not recommend anyone to buy one of these dishwashers. They are nothing but trouble.

I bought a washer/dryer pair from Lowe's in July 2005. Top of the line, great, nothing better. Nothing but garbage! It's the worst appliance purchase of my life. The washer has been worked on twice. Now the pump assembly is making terrible noises. The dryer failed 2 years into its use. The extended warranty people couldn't get the replacement / upgraded heaters and controllers.
We did without a dryer for more than 2 weeks, before I found the parts online, bought them, and repaired the unit myself. (We also spent 4 weeks of going to the laundromat to dry.) So much for Lowe's extended warranty, they were / are of no help either. Since then, the dryer has failed 4 more times. Reset this, move the drum here, etc. Last night was its final failure. I threw it outside and crushed it with my backhoe. (Yes, my wife is very mad at me today.) Too good an end for a worthless piece of equipment.
In conclusion, I called my friend to whom I gave our old GE dryer to over 4 years ago. They have 3 children. It dries at least 2 loads of clothes a day without fail. I bought it in 1992. I am going out right now to throw this Fisher Paykel junk into the dump and buy us a newer version of GE--a solid, dependable machine I am confident will last me more than 4 1/2 years at 1/2 the cost.

Their motto: “Always blame the consumer, for you don't know how to operate our fancy machines.” Everything that any of our "authorized dealers" tell you is wrong, for they are not connected to us in anyway. It’s a third-party. They did it wrong, but you get the washer. 5 calls a year, that’s not bad enough for a $1300 machine. “All the other brands are just as bad.” This company is gone. Do not get suckered in by their looks until you read their largest market reviews. Also, they make all the dish-drawer models with other brands (KitchenAid) but are trying to hide behind other names. Don't get taken there either.
They could have fixed them, admit there was some defects, but they take the road rarely taking by smart American companies now and that is get and keep your loyalty for years, not months. In the end, they will be gone. They wrote their own obit in the last years. Too bad they will be laying all these people off, but they deserve it treating buyers of dishwashers 2 to 3 times than average like dirt.
A hunting buddy of mine is going to take his apart a double unit on YouTube--5 minutes of pure heaven, so stay tuned. He says their tubing: McDonald’s makes stronger plastic tubes (straws). Ask for the name of the customer relations manager, they won't even give it. You know it’s bad then. Do all this before you buy, if you’re still leaning that way. I am in no way a competitor, just another burned customer.
This has resulted to days of lost work, 5 between wife and I every year. Damaged parts of home and tile floor. Crude and demeaning behavior by employees that their product is actually "high end, maybe not for you.” I bought on looks. Don't do it. You will flush the cost of this and damage parts of your house. They will blame you over and over, and then they blame their authorized repair links from their site. They will never admit this product has the worst ratings for any single appliance in the world. You will never see 3-4 years service.

I purchase a Fisher Paykel DD dishwasher on June 1, 2005. Luckily, I got an extended warranty which is such ways I am told was a bad idea. From day one, we had issues with it. Installing was a pain and we had to get a technician out to assist. Within five months, the drawers were constantly flooding within themselves. I was taught how to use a vacuum to suck the water out and then let the drawers dry completely before techs would come out. Since then, I have had a minimum of 36 calls with the drawers being down more than up. This year alone, I average seeing the technicians four hours a month with then ordering parts which have rebuilt the units several times.
I called Fisher Paykel at their corporate offices and they would not talk to me, the consumer, but they would talk to the techs. I was told by corporate if the drawers broke down again, the unit would be replaced but they are refusing to do that. The newest from them is that I should have not purchased the extended warranty because that means they would continue repairs until June 1, 2010 and then they would consider a replacement (like that will happen). Wthin the month of September, the control boards were replaced, seals replaced as well as several other parts and within minutes of being installed, the F1 code started up again. New parts were again ordered and were installed last Friday, October 9th.
When the control panel did not work in one drawer but the other, I was given an option of which drawer I preferred to work while new parts came in again. I said at this point, the top would be my choice as I am getting ready to have surgery on my feet and will be in a cast for eight weeks. They actually got both drawers to work. That was at 5 pm. I left the house and returned at 10 pm. Within minutes of me walking past the thing, the F1 code was going again. Problem with turning off the dishwasher switch means have the power in my kitchen is off. There has to be a better product out there whose corporate offices support them.

The pump was a problem, I took it apart and found it was not assembled correctly and was missing shims on the rotor shaft. I fixed the pump and it has not been a problem. From day number one, the oven heated slowly, but we thought that was just the way it was. Over the next four years, it got worse and worse until two years ago. I started calling trying to get customer support and technical support as to what might be the problem, now that it was just out of warranty.
They have continuously refused to help us out. It is now two years since we have been able to really use the oven because it takes like an hour to heat up and once it does, if you open the door to put your food in at the prescribed temperature, the ignitor glows red, but will not reheat the oven. And now, when it does try to reheat, it smells like gasoline. Because the economy has not been so kind to us, we have to do most of our own repairs and Fisher & Paykel who bought out DCS, refuses to help us. This is a $4000 oven/stove that is useless. I purchased a Fisher and Paykel Gas Dryer in March of 2008 at a Sears Outlet store. After about a month, I noticed that the drum would often lock and would have to be opened manually. They give instructions on how to do this, but it seemed to be happening a lot. Then in January 2009 the drum wouldn't open at all. There were 2 companies that would service this machine and one came out. He had to order the part and 3 weeks later I had it fixed.
Then in July 2009, the heating elements went out and they had ordered me new elements. It was heating, it just took over an hour to dry a light load. The first company went out of business, so I tried the second company. Then even before the parts came in on August 3, 2009, the lid wouldn't open again. They came back out and couldn't get the drum open either. He had to order more parts. Weeks later, I was told they were on back order (they come from Australia) and they would let me know. I finally called Fisher and Paykel's number given in the back of the book, only to find out that it's a company in California who handles their service in the states.
They assured me that the parts would be there soon. She told me to have the serviceman call them directly so they can have a Fisher and Paykel tech walk them through the repair. Six weeks later I finally got the drum. The service guy came and took apart my dryer again, this time he was able to get my clothes that had been in the dryer for 6 weeks - yes they smelt and were moldy. Only this time he saw several more pieces were broken and he had to call the tech people at F & P to find out what to order and where it went since there were parts everywhere.
I then talked to the F & P service people and she assured me the parts would be sent soon. I kindly asked to speak to a supervisor to let them know I did not buy a factory refurbished machine, I certainly didn't want a basement refurbished machine done by someone who isn't even an employee of F & P. She called back to tell me that a supervisor would call me the next day, they did not. The same employee called me to tell me they would overnight the parts and have someone out there soon.
I once again asked for a supervisor, this time not so nicely. She wouldn't allow me to speak to anyone there but her. I then began calling a series of numbers at Sears, and lo and behold, the Sears outlet where I bought the machine was wonderful and had me come down and get a new machine (obviously I didn't choose this same brand). It should be delivered soon. The customer service with Fisher and Paykel was awful!

We were in need of replacing our old washer, which lasted us for over 10 years, so my husband researched the best washing machine for the money. He purchased a Fisher Paykel washing machine, the Ecosmart machine. We paid over $700.00 for it from Lowes, which the sales rep there stated that this was the best washer on the market.
After only having the machine for 4 months, it stopped working it wouldn't spin out anymore, which left us with a full machine, with clothes and water. So we contacted Fisher Paykel customer service in New Zealand. They told us that there was only one service repair company in our area. So my husband then contacted the service company and they stated that they will not be able to come look at our washer for at least a month. But then stated that they could possibly look at it sooner if we were to bring it to them. So my husband loaded up the washer and took it to them.
Unfortunately the repair company was the most unfriendly and unhelpful company we have ever had to deal with. We were told by the repair company that as soon as the washer was fixed, they would call us. We never received a call from them, instead we had to do all the calling and checking on our machine. They had my machine for almost a month. The control panel and pump went out on the machine. So my husband went into the repair company and picked it up. He brought it back home, hooked it up, and we began using it right away.
Only a short six months later, the machine did exactly the same thing. I called Fisher Paykel directly again very upset that we spent so much money on a product that keeps breaking down. They were extremely nasty on the phone and stated that we needed to contact the repair company in our area and they will look at the machine and repair it as needed. And that is all they can do for you. So I then called the repair company about coming out to service the washer, again I received the same thing, it will be at least a month before we could come and look at our machine but if we could bring it to them they may get a chance to look at it sooner.
So again my husband loaded up the machine, took it to them, and had to deal with poor customer service. Again they did not call we had to call them and after a long 3 weeks (almost 4 weeks), the machine was once again fixed. The problem was the same exact problem as the first time, the control panel and the pump. My husband brought the machine back and right away we were right back to using it. And guess what? Again, only 6 months later, it broke again exactly the same thing. So the machine was taken back to the repair company again and I made several phone calls to New Zealand. I spoke with, usually more than once with each individual, Laraine, Emily, John, Steven, and Kylee.
Along with these reps I also spoke with a few others that I did not get their names. I explained the situation several times and everytime I would get the runaround. Some of the individuals seemed as though they were trying to help but just got to the point where they wouldn't return phone calls. I have written down conversations with the individuals and requested, from Fisher & Paykel, all the information (my file), they have regarding my particular washing machine. Oh by the way, the washer needed a new control panel and also a new pump once again. We are so extremely frustrated with this machine, with Fisher & Paykel, and also with the repair company that we have to deal with.
But Kylee told my husband that she's sorry for all of our inconvenience but there's nothing she can do. The warranty states, per Kylee, that Fisher & Paykel has the right to repair their product whenever possible. Unfortunately for us, our warranty runs out January 2010 but out of courtesy from FP, they extended our warranty for 6 months longer and yet again for another 6 months. Also we have complained that because we have been without a machine for so long we have spent an overwhelming amount of money at the laundromat. Kylee stated that if we could supply her with the copies of the bills that she may be able to do something about reimburstment on the laundry services but couldn't give us a dollar amount.
At this point, I have requested all of our information from FP, the repair company, and I will be calling Lowes tomorrow to see what they can do if anything. Along with this complaint I am contacting the BBB. We feel that FP has no concern with their customers whatsoever and must really have a lot of money because they continually are throwing good money after bad, at least with our washer.

The removable filters get blocked easily and I have to clean the filth out. Scum appears in the bottom of trays. Wire trays don't fit and are badly designed to accommodate glasses etc.
The lower drawer bezel has cracked with just normal use. At least 30% of dishes need re-washing each day because they're just not clean. Their customer no-service people just refer me to local suppliers to fix (don't see what's fixable - it's just a lousy product).

In fact, I don't even know what it's like to have a double drawer dishwasher, as both drawers have worked maybe twice within the past 6 months. You name it; it's been a problem from water not draining, appliance not shutting off, running for 5 hours at a time, etc. It has been very hard to get an authorized service dealer out, as he seldom can be here after 4:00 and I work full time.
Consequently, I have had many times no working dishwasher. Supposedly, it is fixed now with this last service call, but I hold my breath every time I turn it on. I would never buy from this company again. As far as cleaning the dishes, I would never buy this product again.
My 15-year-old dishwasher did a much better job of cleaning the dishes, regardless of how you loaded it or what detergent you used. In my opinion, this product was released to consumers without working out all of the kinks and it is so poorly designed. If you have a family of more than 2, you would be better off to wash the dishes my hand.

I have a brand new refrigerator purchased on November 8. I have had repairmen out 12+ times for a strange noise and a control panel failure. The compressor was replaced, still made noise, so a repair man came out again after finding out the repair was not done correctly. He fixed it but then a part broke off in his hands and he had to do a "McGyver" type of repair. He informed me that he was concerned that the repair may not hold or may have damaged an internal part of the fridge.
FP said it was fine. How can it be fine? The repairman was not confident, so how can they be? I'm not, so now we are stuck with a fridge (they said they would not replace it and we can just keep getting it repaired) that will go out of warranty in 3 months. So when it breaks again, we're stuck. FP's customer service is terrible. One wanted to immediately argue with me, blamed the repair company for not updating them. But when I called the repair company (they referred me to), they said all the info was delivered right away to FP. Who's telling the truth here? We feel stuck with a lemon. I am very unhappy to the point I started to cry on the phone with the manager. Horrible experience.

We bought a Fisher Paykel washer six months or so ago to replace a washer that finally gave up the ghost. We got a matching dryer. The washcloths and towels don't get clean smelling. I've changed detergent and experimented with detergent amounts but the washcloths especially thick ones still smell bad after being washed and dried.
The smell activates when the washcloth is moistened for use. Using bleach seemed to help. Our old washer never produced smelly washcloths, or I never noticed. Also, a cleaned washcloth when wet prior to use, still smells like detergent. This occurs even on heavy duty wash cycle that has extra rinse cycles.
For some reason nothing else seems to have an unwashed smell after drying. In my opinion the agitator in the FP washer doesn't move clothing as vigorously as other washers. In fairness, our neighbor bought a FP washer right after we did and she said she's had no smell problems. (I may be extra sensitive to smell). Now my spouse says the FP dryer doesn't work on one cycle. We've called a repairman from the one merchant who sells FP. After reading comments, it will be interesting to see the outcome.

I purchased a Fisher Paykel Dishwasher in March of 2003 for my new home. It was very expensive. Before the end of the year, it F1'd and has done so ever since, periodically. I had a control card replaced once, which was very expensive. I got no help from the factory and I would say they are quite rude. I am an electronics engineer and could repair this piece of crap if I had access to repair diagrams. They won't supply them, citing fear of liability. Well, I could hurt myself by them denying me access to information that would help me to effect repairs. This has cost me hundreds of dollars in one repair cost which only worked temporarily.

In 2001, I purchased a dual dish drawer DD 602. From the beginning, this piece of junk had problems. It does a poor job of cleaning and will chip dishes if not loaded just right. The repair charges have been upward of $600 and that does not include the cost to repair both drawers which are currently not working. One has a failed rotor and the other a failed electronics board that filled my house with smoke. I have the lost the previous service invoices and the repair company has since gone out of business. F&P service center indicates I could be lying about previously incurred cost and will not stand behind their product for the issues it has now.
I have a family of three, so the wear and tear on the unit is minimal, maybe run 3 times per week for 7 years, sometimes less. Last night, the service rep argued with me over the phone probably reading off of a script. Another time, the idiots called me at 11:15 PM on a Sunday night and claimed they didn't know what time it was in the US.
Anyone reading this, please consider another brand, the performance when this unit was operational was poor, it breaks down frequently at ultra high repair cost and the customer service is dismal. My 12 year old, $295 Whirlpool was still running great when I moved out of my other house and cleaned the dishes much better.

I just wanted to say "ditto" and add to the litany of F&P double drawer dishwasher complaints. Read the litany, and pick the worst out of every one to compose my story. I have a 'perfectly good' stainless double drawer unit sitting in my garage, for anyone who wants to waste money endlessly on repairs. It takes me back to the days of my 1956 fix or repair daily, my personal learning lab, where I eventually fixed everything on the car, to keep it on the road. We have a hole in our kitchen awaiting delivery of a US-made appliance, costing 1/3, for which I can get parts. We also have our toes & fingers crossed on this one. Yes, we did check the consumer boards on this round. That is $2000 down the drain, between purchase & installation. $325 in service calls, to learn parts must be ordered and $1,000 to get this repairman's gold mine back on the air. I don't think so.

Broken lemon dishwasher under one year, both drawer units are broken and I cannot get repairs done. I have been trying to get units serviced since late February. The authorized repair people said F&P doesn't send them the parts for service. There are dozens of complaints about this model online. Now as I call the service department at F&P, they hung up on me. I went to superior appliance repair 212-221-9119 as per F&P website. They are listed as an authorized repair company. They have kept me hanging, saying the units and parts needed for repair are on backorder. I have been trying to get this repaired since March. The superior said they were waiting for parts to come in and reordered parts second time in April. It is now June.
I called to research the problem and the woman at F&P hung up on me. I finally called PC Richards and now they are investigating and trying to get this serviced. You should investigate this Fisher and Paykel company, there are hosts of complaints against them on the internet and this dishwasher unit per the appliance companies are lemons and break repeatedly in under a year.

I, too, purchased a Fisher Paykel washing machine two years ago. Within three months, under warranty and after several visits, a new "brain" was installed. Now the pump appears to have failed and I get a nice shower out of the lid whenever the last spin cycle comes on. I was thinking of replacing the pump until I read all the comments and I am not wasting money on something I will be having to repair again and again. I'll take it out back and teach it a lesson. It's unfortunate the company does not stand behind their products.

I bought a Fisher Paykel washer and dryer almost two years ago. Recently, it was beeping and telling me I'm not getting any water. $60 and a good service call later, I knew the problem. Fisher Paykel washer has certain awesome features. One is it won't pump out water from the bottom of the tub until you're filling it. It shuts off the machine so you don't have a flood. All it needed was the washer hose that the water drains from to be pulled out of the hose a bit. It seems when we cleaned and moved the dryer, someone had shoved the hose back in too far. Simple fix. Thank you very much, F&K!
Oh no, then something else happened. I got a message from my washer saying Error 37. I ran to Google, typed in the unit name, brand, and model number and the sentence, "Help, I'm not getting any water" and the fix instructions popped right up. It seems F&P pumps have a nifty built in protective program. I had a friend (who is a guy with a lot more muscle than me) tipped the washer over, unplugged the pump, twisted it off, and out fell a dime. He right twisted the pump back into locked, closed position, and reinstalled it. He plugged the pump in, righted and leveled the washer, and hit wash. It ran through the cycles beautifully. I love my washer and dryer!

I purchased a fisher Paykel dryer DEGX1 in 2007. This past April, I put a load of clothes to dry. I waited and waited for the signal to tell me my clothes were dry. To my shock it was not working. I contacted Fisher Paykel customer care and I was told it was the heating element and I can use an authorized dealer to repair the machine. The tech came with new heating elements, put them in nothing and told me the old ones were fine. The dryer has another problem. I was told they will order a new computer part. I have waited and am at the point of giving up. I am going back to my old faithful Maytag dryer I bought 10 years ago and it still works perfectly. So much for a so called high end expensive dryer with great reviews about this product.

I bought Fisher & Paykel washer & dryer in fall of 2007 installed in new log house that I built in January of 2008. Everything worked properly until September 28, 2008. We were leaving the house to go to a family reunion 5 miles away and just before leaving, my wife told me to put clothes in the dryer & turn it on. We left the house at 11:20 am at 12:30, we got a call from friends in the Fire dept. telling us the house was on fire. When we arrived back at the house, it was completely destroyed. We also lost 5 dogs in the fire, one of them being a golden retriever rescue dog that went into the house to rescue the other dogs, we think. We found his remains in the house & he was an outside dog. We also lost 4 vehicles & a Bobcat skid-steer loader.
Luckily, there was no loss of life. During investigation of the insurance company, they found wiring fault in the dryer that started the fire. So unless you want to lose everything, I would not recommend buying any product made by this company. I have been told that I wouldn't have much luck going after this company. That is why I'm writing this.
