I was happy with everything that Liberty did. I'm old and we didn't have enough on my wife's and my Social Security, so I needed some more income. Liberty's loan officers are very polite, and I had a good experience with all of them. They were timely and everything was done on the schedule that they said it would be.

I put in my phone number in a website when I searched for reverse mortgages and Liberty called me. They had excellent reps and they responded very quickly to any questions I had. They called me back when they said they would and arranged the process so that I understood it and that went quickly and smoothly. They walked me through everything, gave me the information and they let me make the decisions. I was very satisfied and would recommend Liberty to others. The experience was very straightforward and they were polite and helpful.

I was looking online and Liberty was one of the top 10. I'm on a fixed income and I needed some repairs done in my house. I also wanted to pay off the cremation for my wife and myself so when we die, the kids don’t owe anything. So, I got a reverse mortgage. The loan officer was excellent. They were upfront and I got the $10,000 the way I wanted to start with so I could get things paid off. Everything went smooth and I'd recommend Liberty very highly.

I was dealing with some people that were going through the process of a reverse mortgage, and I wanted to try it out as well. I tried talking to one of Liberty's representatives and started telling them what I was going through with the other company. He told me that it doesn't work that way and if I give him a chance, they would be upfront with me, not hide anything or lie to me. It went along really well.
I gave the loan officer all the information and they went through the process as quickly as possible. He asked me a lot of questions about what I knew, and how the process was going to be. He answered the right questions, and we were satisfied. I spent some time with these other people and he put it through well with the timeline. He was upfront about everything he was telling me and would call me back to keep me updated. He was respectful and I like that. A lot of the burden is off my shoulders right now, and for the help that I got from that person, and even my wife, we're really happy with it.

My financial advisor informed me of Liberty and he said that he had a good experience with them. Reverse mortgage is the way I had thought home equity operated and I like it better with how it was set up and the advantages it provided. We dealt with Jim and also had contact with his assistant and they were very attentive to our needs. We had very good interactions and I feel very positive with the guidance I received. My wife asked more questions than I did, but they were very responsive and addressed both our concerns quickly. The whole process took less than a month, which wasn’t long.

When we were retiring, we looked at reverse mortgages and decided to go with Liberty. Some emergency things came up, so we applied for advancements. I called Liberty back, they gave me the agent, and he explained more to me than the others have. There was even one who told us a new way that they do the process and we found out that he wasn't from Liberty. The people from Liberty were more courteous and I got more information from them. Their rep called us and kept us informed and the process took less than three months to complete.

My husband was just diagnosed with cancer. We knew that his treatment would be expensive, so we went down to HUD in Denver, Colorado to apply for a reverse mortgage. We got all the details, applied there and they sent it to Liberty. When I refinanced, I wanted to stay with them because they were very good to me. They were very professional, helpful and polite. Angie, the young lady I spoke with, took me through the pros and cons. We spoke so much that it was personal. I felt one on one with her.
When she said she was going to do something, she did it and called me back about whatever needed to be done. I was very impressed with the follow-through because sometimes salespeople will give you all this spiel and never follow through. That’s important. She referred other people and told me that she would refer me to another department or a notary public. I was updated all the time. I didn’t necessarily know the person that was coming, but I knew they would call ahead and tell me when they were coming. I knew that Angie had gotten in touch with them. My husband has since passed on but the reverse mortgage worked for us, so I could stay in the home.

I was thinking about selling, leasing or renting out my property, and it was less expensive and lesser headache to go with a reverse mortgage so it was the best way to go. Liberty Home was the only one that called and I was very satisfied and comfortable with them. Everybody was very nice. They answered every question I had and their guidance was very good. My loan officer was very knowledgeable and friendly, always knew what he was talking about and gave me straight answers. The appraiser took longer time than it was supposed to but I had a very good experience overall.

The person from Liberty that I dealt with went out of her way to be helpful right off the bat. She was civil, friendly and professional. Plus, she can answer any question. When you're first getting into it, it's very confusing. She made a point in making an appointment, calling me back, and taking a full hour to explain everything to me on an initial proposal. She made sure I understood what was going on regarding the interest rates and what the rules were. Also, I initially picked three companies. One local, AAG, and Liberty. I told everybody to give me their best price upfront. The other two companies played games while Liberty didn't.
I've lived in my home for 34 years. I paid it off a few years ago. But when the economy crashed in '08, I lost my job. Then, my savings went. Then, unemployment went and I had to cash in my 401 just to pay off the mortgage. I was able to survive for a couple of years, but it got to the point, where I used up my equity line and credit. I had no choice but to get a reverse mortgage. Liberty is the most above-board and ethical outfit that I have dealt with. They did what I'd expect of them and everything was timely. They made an unpleasant experience tolerable. This is not something I wanted to do, but at least I had a decent company to deal with.

It's been a very good experience and Liberty has been very helpful. They returned my phone call when I sent them an email, while the other ones just sent me a letter. I'm 82 years old and my savings are getting low. When I retired, I thought we could get by with $100,000 in addition to our Social Security and two retirement plans. However, we wanted to keep the standard of living we had when I was working. Their loan officers were right there to answer all my questions. As I went along, I didn't have any problems. Plus, everybody has been very good and responsive. I couldn't have asked for better service.

Our original reverse mortgage a few years ago went through another company which was sold to Liberty Home Equity Solutions. Since we already had it, we decided to go back for a second time and I’m okay going with Liberty. I went with a reverse mortgage for extra money to pay some bills. The loan officers were very good and the process went as they said it would. They stayed in contact with me and let me know what was going on so it worked out great! It was quick and easy and Liberty Home Equity Solutions did a great job.

My wife is going to be 65 in March so we figured that we needed to do something now. We needed to get some things paid off since we’re getting behind and it was bothering me. I’m retired and there’s not enough money to live on so I went for a reverse mortgage. Liberty was efficient and everything went fast. I got good answers from them right away and they sent Jeff out here. He explained everything to us and it sounded good. The loan officer was very nice and she took us through the process but I’m still confused since there were so much paperwork. There was a lot of stuff that we had to read and sign, but that was okay. However, I hate to have people go over and over on certain things but I have some memory problems and if they would have slowed down and tried to explain the whole process a bit more, it would have been better. Still, the process was in the two-month frame and we were satisfied.

The Liberty loan officer I was working with named Tom was one of the loveliest and knowledgeable people I've ever met. He was extraordinarily wonderful and I wound up becoming very fond of him. I liked him very much because he was very courteous, kind, and patient. And he was absolutely the only reason that I stayed with Liberty. We started the process with Liberty in January and finished it last month. I would never recommend anybody to work with Liberty. I wouldn't even recommend them to somebody who I really despised. I've never met a slower and a more poorly organized and poorly processing company. I was supposed to move from Thomas to another person and I didn't like the guy that they had me assigned with. So, I told Tom I was only going to do it through him. And if it hadn't been for Tom, I would have been out of there four months ago. I never want anything more to do with Liberty as long as I live.

Our stockbroker told us that we put enough money into the house. Now, it's the turn for the house to give us some money back. He says a reverse mortgage is the best way to do it and recommended Liberty. We've been waiting for years and so far, what he had said has been very good. The interactions with the loan officer and their guidance in making our reverse mortgage decisions were very good. They were able to answer all of the questions we had and it made it a little easier since it's a stretch going into it whether we really want to do a reverse mortgage.

I had tried a regular mortgage previously and then I got laid off. It’s very difficult to find a job at my age and I decided to retire early. That’s when I took the idea of getting the reverse mortgage to help me. Liberty Home Equity Solutions gave the most information, it was very detailed and I felt comfortable after reading their information as opposed to several others that I read. After reading Liberty’s page and talking to Richard, the rep I spoke with, it was fantastic. He was very responsive, very customer service friendly and gave me some websites to research because I had a lot of questions. He said that he didn't want me to just think down some of the products and that I should find out things, too. I had previously dealt with other providers and they didn't even come close to Richard's customer service. He was above and beyond. That was helpful for me to make my decision and they appeared to be my best option.
Richard turned it over to Lou who was equally as important and helpful to me. She was very hands-on, called me all the time and walked with me. It was quite a long process which took about three months due to what I had to do and documents I had to provide. But as soon as I sent it to them, they were right back on the next step. I recommended them to two people that are looking into reverse mortgages.

I retired last month and we were having cash flow issues so we thought a reverse mortgage would be a good way to pay off the mortgage and solve that issue plus access our equity funds without losing ownership. We did a comparison shopping on the interest rates and the amount of money we can access on the first year. Liberty Home Equity Solutions had a local contact number and they honored their guarantee to meet other competitors without any questions. That was a very painless process and we felt as good a deal as we could possibly have gotten.
We go out in Fairtown and my sales contact was knowledgeable but she was also very curt and superior-acting. If the whole deal would rest on my emotional experience with her, I probably would not have done it. She answered a question and handled everything but I didn’t like her personality. The person I dealt with directly in California, however, was excellent and with all the information Liberty provided, the guidance we received was very good.
For the appraisal the form was up on time and I was in and out fairly quick. The appraisal came back with exactly what we estimated it would be so it was good. Liberty was also efficient in handling the deal. From the time we made our decision till the time closed with the title company the total time was just a few days. It was rather quick. In fact we felt it was a little bit rushed to me. That aside we have used some of the funds so far and that worked out okay.

Reverse mortgage was a good thing for us to do and it was something that my husband and I talked about for some time. We also see the ads all the time. Everybody in Liberty Home was courteous and nice but my husband talked to Donnell a bit on the phone. They were helpful in trying to move things along as I knew it would be a process. It was not surprising that the process took a long time but I wished it would have gone faster. There was a problem though since we bought and own a solar in the house so when the first appraiser came out, he told us that he can’t do it because he didn’t have any account to compare. So, Liberty had another appraiser come out and that caused a week delay in the process.

Two years ago, I was looking into doing a reverse mortgage because we were almost finished paying our house off and I wanted to be able to use some money but did not want to have a big loan payment that I had to pay. I found Liberty Home Equity Solutions online and the company was in Sacramento which was closer to where I am. They sounded like they would be able to proceed and find out whether or not we would qualify for it. We got a reverse mortgage in 2015 then we recently redid that. When something happens to me and my husband, the house is going to my son and my granddaughter. But at that point, it would have to be sold regardless because neither one of them would want to necessarily move and live here. So it made more sense to not have payments and then to do a refinance.
When we did the reverse mortgage originally, they needed a document that was huge at one point and since they were in Sacramento, it was easy for me to drive down there and give them the documents rather than trying to copy something and send it to them. That made it nice and easy and, if I had questions they were there to answer it. With that initial one, I contacted them in May and we had it all done by August. We had to have a consultation with the credit agency so we understand all the rules.
This last one would have gone by faster, except we had some issues with some stuff here at the house. We put solar in and there was extra paperwork with that and it never got processed like it was supposed to, so we waited two months after everything was ready to go ahead and do it. But it had nothing to do with them and the Liberty reps were very good. They were trained to keep track of it and try to get it working. They were good at helping us out, answering any questions we had and making sure that everything was set up to how the way we wanted it. They took care of any concern that I had and they were very easy to work with. I have been very happy with Liberty.

I got a reverse mortgage from Liberty Home. I had an existing home equity loan with them, which I thought might expedite things, but it didn't. And although the loan officer, Dan, answered our questions at the time of the closing, he was very difficult to work with. It seemed like everything else was more important to him than this loan with us. He had to go and watch the eclipse and then he went off to his kids in England. It was a very poor experience mostly because of his lack of attention. The company is fine and their concept is good, but they need to work with somebody besides Dan.

There was an advertisement on TV about AAG and I went to the computer and put that in as I wanted information. I was then contacted by Liberty Mutual and we got hooked on it. I was opposed to the commissions that were on top of the loan and Liberty didn’t charge interest on the fees for initiating the loan which was considerable. I got $4,000 for writing up doing what they were supposed to do and that's outrageous. But everybody has got to make money in return. I started to listen to the person I spoke to at Liberty, as I have the same reason why they were doing it. He was very knowledgeable and considerate. Everything fell into place for me so I went with them. If they couldn't answer my question, they would ask and call somebody, then I would talk to them, and so any questions I had were fully answered ahead of time.
The only thing I've got now is that any payments or any loans that I get from Liberty go to the bank that I deal with here in Junction City. If they transfer money to this account here, this bank charges a fee for putting that money in the bank and I found that unconscionable. The fee is $18 to receive the money. So, I went down and talked to them about it, and they said that the way around that is to have Liberty or whoever makes the transfer of money mail me a check. In that way, I wouldn’t have to pay the fee. There is a way I can contact the servicing people to get that changed and what we're going to do is withdraw money whenever we need it and we're also going to have a regular deposit. It's been all good with Liberty Mutual.

My husband and I always owned our own home and I'm currently in a house built by my husband and sons. But my husband passed away and now it's just me with my social security income. We really didn't have a savings account because everything went into the house and whatever we needed. I had talked to other people about a reverse mortgage but never went through the procedures. My son's friend gave him some information and he talked about it with someone he got in touch with. From there on, my son searched whatever had to be done and I trusted his judgment.
He said he talked to a man who was going to work right through it, which was quickly rather than some of the others that were pretty slow. The next thing I knew, the man got it through by a deadline that was supposedly on the 9th. The rep was very informative and answered questions. When I told my son that I didn't understand something, he would go and ask the rep so that he can make an explanation to me. Liberty did a good job and they were very informative. If one person didn't tell me something, the other one did or if one told me something, the other one would verify it. Overall, Liberty relieved me and I can start living a little bit better. I look forward to fixing the house up the way I want and getting new curtains.

Liberty's salespeople were very courteous, but I would not recommend the company because they screwed me over. They charged me over $5,000 to finance a $4,300 loan and they took four months to close it. It was outrageous. Every time I turned around, there was another delay and they kept adding it up. They got an appraiser for the property who didn’t show up when she was supposed to. She showed up a couple of weeks later. When she'd get something on a Friday, she should have turned it in on a Monday but she didn’t turn it in for weeks. And then she found a couple of things that needed to be done but when I got them done, I had to wait for her to get back.
Liberty charged me again for her to come back out again. It was a horrible experience. They need to be upfront with people and let them know what it’s going to cost upfront, and not change it. Normally when you take a mortgage out, a company would tell you what your rate is going to be and they freeze right there, but Liberty raised the damn rate right in the middle of all the hullabaloo that was going on.
We appreciate the time you took to tell us about your experience. Someone from our customer service team will be contacting you directly to research and begin resolving this matter.

Harry, the rep that processed everything, went all the way and always helped me. I don’t like doing paperwork. So, I just call Larry, and he tells me where I should put what form, and what I should do, and I got approved. Every time I got a problem, I call him and he put me on the right track. I was reviewing different reverse mortgage companies and I liked the quote I got from Liberty Home Equity Solutions. I was looking for the financial flexibility. The Liberty loan officer was excellent. I have 30 years of experience in the mortgage business so I knew what they were, how they worked, and why I wanted to do one. It's been 60 days since I started and I had all my documents close at hand so it didn’t take too long to finalize the paperwork. It made me happy that I was not trying to sell my house with FHA borrower because they keyed in about 10% lower than what I expected.
Another thing was the appraiser carried a ladder to the house but he wasn’t very careful and he bumped several walls with the ladder because he had to look up in the attic for some reason. That left little tiny dents in some of the corners but they're almost unnoticeable. The appraisal process part of it was weird although I've never gone through an FHA appraisal process before myself because I've always done conventional loans. So far, Liberty was fine and I'd recommend them.

They sent the notary to come to the house, sent the papers I had to sign, and told me how to send it through the mail. The way that I was able to do it from my home and have my daughter here was perfect. I’ve had people ask me because there are so many things that they hear about a reverse mortgage. I would recommend Liberty to them. I would tell them that it worked out for me and I’m very satisfied with how Liberty represented everything to me.

About three years ago, our bank referred Ken of Liberty Home Equity Solutions to us and then we talked to him. Although we liked him, we decided we weren't ready to do a reverse mortgage at that time. But I still had his information for when we’re ready. And then we figured now is the time to do it. We're at that age and the property is pretty high.
We started the process with Ken about six weeks ago. He gave us a lot of paperwork to read, discussed our options and made things very plain. Then, he worked along our schedule for the paperwork and took about a month to finalize it since we did a lot of camping and had reservations made during the summer. He was pleasant and courteous. He made himself totally available if we had any questions and answered all of them. I also involved our children in this decision and he answered questions for them too. The guy who did the appraisal was also very nice and did a very professional job. We're very satisfied with our experience. We’re very happy, and I would recommend Liberty to friends.

I spoke with my banker about doing a home equity loan and going through the process and decided that the reverse mortgage was what I needed to do. I worked with Jenna of Liberty Home Equity Solutions and I liked her. She was very informative and helpful. Everything was fine. Jenna was very available for questions or anything that I needed. I found that the government does the HUD deal and it was very general, which is what I know they need to do. It wasn’t specific enough for me so I asked Jenna and got the information from her. I’ve already been transferred to a different mortgage company for processing so my Liberty days were done. But in going through and getting it set up, it worked smoothly. I spoke to Jenna last week and told her that I had no information from anybody of anything and she said that I wouldn’t get anything until December but it would be coming. I’d give Jenna the credit for all of it. She was wonderful.

Catherine from Liberty Home Equity Solutions was the lady I called first and everyone that I talked to prior to her was discouraging. They didn’t think that since my wife was younger than me, that a reverse mortgage would even be possible. Catherine was really enthusing and she said that she wanted to check into it. She called me back and said there was a possibility so we went ahead and tried it and it worked out really well. Everything was really comfortable for us with Liberty Home Equity Solutions. My cousin gave me some reverse mortgage listings she looked up on the computer and there were five or six outlets that were listed. Liberty had the best quality so I picked them. They've been good. It was a little on the slow side but it's okay. Also, the officers were very good. They called me on an average of once a week and sometimes more often and kept me updated on their end. I was well satisfied. I also felt good about the guidance Liberty has given me.

In our age, a reverse mortgage was what my wife and I were looking for. When I heard about Liberty Home, I thought that it would be good for us at this time in our lives. I had called a couple of other institutions, but Liberty was the first to call us back over other providers. Their loan officer was nice and friendly. She stayed on top of things and kept me aware of everything going on. If she didn’t have answers, she would find it out and get right back to me. I was uneasy because reverse mortgage is still new for a lot of people my age but it took a lot of doubt out of my mind once all my questions were answered. Everything she said was 100 percent true and she gave me some good advice about certain things which worked well. My experience with the loan officer was excellent and enjoyable and this is by far the best experience I’ve had.

Liberty contacted me and the rep who I initially spoke with was awesome. I spent three months talking with her and she was the reason I chose Liberty. However, I was devastated when she left the company for unknown reasons and was anxious too because the rep that I was working with so close was gone. I didn’t have a lot of confidence in what I was doing after that, but I was in so deep so I stayed with it. Then, I dealt with three other people. One was not very personable and acted impatient with me. I didn’t feel comfortable with her. I felt like the communication was lacking and that I was a number. I had to reach out when I was used to being spoiled. But the first gentleman who called me was good and just called me back the other day and I feel better.
Also, I was glad that the process took longer because I wasn’t sure. I was thinking of backing out. I also had to do additional things that I wasn’t planning on doing like get a survey which was good for me. But it went through and it’s now approved and final. I got what I initially asked for which was a very small amount deposited in my account. I would recommend Liberty. They were really pretty good to me.

I have a condo that's worth a lot and I don't have any heirs to speak of.The rep I dealt with from Liberty Home Equity told me that no matter which company I was going with, I'd be getting the same product and the reason to go with them is personal service. So I got a reverse mortgage from them. The rep stayed on the case and made sure I have all the stuff in. I was guided very well and everybody that I dealt with was on top of it. I closed on the 26th and haven’t got much mail afterwards. It's a complicated thing and sometimes, I simply need one piece of paper with a simple explanation. I have all my closing things but it's a lot to go to. Overall, their service went very well.

If anybody wants to take a reverse mortgage, I will tell them to go to Liberty. The way they presented what it is, how much the estimate and all kinds of information was easy to understand, and they just had a good package all in. As a matter of fact, I also went to another company and their package was not as good. The other provider just called me, explained the package to me and that’s all they did. They contacted me a week later to ask if I could understand it and if I had decided, and I didn’t like the way they did that. With Liberty, the loan officer was so nice and friendly, and it seemed like this deal was for him. He explained all the benefits and details that I should know, took my hand and guided me. Then, he handed me over to another loan officer who took good care of me as well. They were more personable compared to the other provider and they cared about how I feel.
Liberty sent me the first estimate in March, the second was in April and the final information was on October 12. Some people might say that it could be processed faster, but it was a complicated procedure. After my house was appraised, I had a big problem with the water heater and many things had to be done. The loan officer told me to fix them for my convenience too. So, it depends but in my case, it took up a long time because of the complication. This reverse mortgage was gold. I’ve been telling young people that if you don’t have anybody, go for a reverse mortgage for your retirement. Do it when you are young and don’t wait until you’re 80 like me.

We have a home that we don’t want to sell. We would like to have a line of credit in the event that if something happens to me, my wife would have sufficient money. I did a lot of investigation and the reverse mortgage fits it fine. I’m a retired employee of IBM and our bank was the IBM Credit Union at Boca Raton. I called the mortgage department and asked them if they were in the reverse mortgage business. The manager said no but recommended me to go with Liberty. I looked at five other companies but the cost to me was much less with Liberty. All the others had different kinds of fees.
The loan officer helped us go through the procedure to get the reverse mortgage. I needed to have a background on the subject and what my options were so I could make sure it was something that we wanted to commit to at our age, and Liberty walked us through it. I’m perfectly happy with what we have and would recommend Liberty Home to others.

There was a couple of consumer websites and both of them listed Liberty Home Equity Solutions number one or number two. I had several companies picked out to interview and Liberty was the first company I called. When I interviewed Wade, their financial rep, it was just obvious to me that he knew what he was doing. He was very honest and forthright and I felt very comfortable so I never interviewed anybody else to do it. I liked that he didn't avoid anything when I he answered my questions, even things that might have been construed as negative.
Wade talked about one provision of how the amount of money available increase over time, which I had read quite a bit about. He also gave me a white paper where a finance person who had a PhD, according to the paper, went through the specifics. They also explained that one of the reasons for the government to tighten up on reverse mortgages was that there were instances where people took out reverse mortgages for their parents and stole the money from them.
The folks whom I dealt with at Liberty who were handling the whole process were very responsive. I didn’t have to call and call to get somebody to answer a question, or if they called, something that was important was taken care of right away. The closing process went faster than I thought it would. I’ve bought a number of houses and I know how closings go so it was as good a closing as I've had in any of those situations. It took about five weeks for the mortgage to go through starting from the first time I talked with Wade. The only thing that bothered me just a wee bit was when we got right to the closing, I found out that Liberty don't do reverse mortgages in Missouri anymore and so Wade lost his job with Liberty and I wasn't happy about that. There should have been a bit more communication on that because it took him much by surprise as it did anybody. Otherwise, I had a very positive experience overall.

We don’t have a loan on our home, so we decided to do a reverse mortgage. I work for Cornerstone Home Lending and I checked with someone in our Underwriting Department to see if our company offered reverse mortgages. They told me that we use two mortgage companies and Liberty Home Equity Solutions was one of those companies, so I called Liberty. The other company did not do loans in Mississippi. I also called AAG and the rep that I talked to there would not give me any information unless I gave him all of our personal information for him to check our credit. But having multiple lenders check my credit would make my credit score go down, so I wouldn't do that.
I asked Amica, a Liberty loan officer, if the AAG guy was telling me the truth and she reminded me, “No. I gave you all the information before I checked your credit.” So, I just blew AAG off and we went with Liberty. Amica was very nice and helpful. I could tell that the Liberty people must be very busy like we are at our company because, after I got my application filled out, I was assigned to a loan processor named Chris. After that, Amica was hard for me to get a hold of and I dealt with Chris the rest of the time. We started the loan process with Liberty back in August. We held things up because we weren't in a big rush and Liberty wanted to move ahead. They also had a hard time finding an appraiser as we live in a small town in North Mississippi.
The appraiser was a nice lady. I walked around the house with her when she was taking measurements and I offered to help her because she was by herself. But I was not pleased that she didn’t use an electronic measuring device but just used a measuring tape that had a hook at the end. In some of the places that she was trying to measure, the hook fell on the ground before she had gone to the other end. I went to pick it up, but she didn’t want me to help her. She didn’t come back and hook the measuring tape again, but just made and wrote down guesstimates.
Our home is old and it was built in the late 1800s. My bedroom upstairs didn’t have central heating and air conditioning and she wouldn't even count it for the appraisal. Since we were doing the reverse mortgage, I felt bad about that because we wanted to do some upgrades in the house like putting in central air conditioning. The amount of money that you get on a reverse mortgage that Liberty would loan to you is only 62% of what your house appraises for. In addition, my husband is older than me and I didn’t realize that they base the age on the youngest person that lives in the household, not the oldest, so you get less money on the reverse mortgage.
We had thought about selling the house before we did the reverse mortgage and a realtor told me that we could get $170,000 for it, but the appraiser appraised the house at $127,000. I was very dissatisfied with the appraiser and I even complained to Amica. She went back to the appraiser and the lady said the house didn’t have air conditioning upstairs, but I don’t see what that has to do with whether a room is counted or not in the appraisal. We put a window upstairs and people sleep up there. I've got a bedroom there and it's comfortable.
When you do an HECM loan or reverse mortgage, you have to pay for counseling which is required. It costs $100 to $200 to get this done and you can do it at home online. Amica gave me a list of people that we could call. We found a company that we could do the counseling with right away, in the day and time when we could do it. My husband and I had to be on the phone at the same time to do the counselling with the guy from the company. But I knew more about what the guy was telling me than he did. It was a waste of time and it was sad that I had to pay $125 to get the certificate.
We received wonderful guidance from Liberty in discussing our options and in making our reverse mortgage decision. But I was very shocked that our loan had already been sold quickly to Ocwen. I got a letter in the mail from Ocwen last Friday telling me that they’ve purchased our loan and they're going to be servicing it. Nevertheless, our experience with Liberty was great overall and I was satisfied, and if I run into someone who needs a reverse mortgage in my area, I'll surely recommend them.

I looked into other ones, but they just weren't as informative as he was. Randy and I went over everything and then I had my counseling. He explained to me very well how the concept worked which was quite different from what I thought it was. He indicated that he had a lot experience and the conversations suggested he was not faking that so he was a good person to talk to. However, I was still skeptical so after we’ve gone through the process of doing my credit ratings, I invited my son-in-law who was very knowledgeable about finance to come and sit in on the presentation and signing of documents. He was also initially very skeptical but the loan officer was very good and convinced him that this was the thing to do. My son-in-law became not only supportive but enthusiastic about the concept.
On the other hand, the appraiser was either slow about getting his information back or Liberty was not good about coordinating it. We were delayed by almost three weeks by getting the proper paperwork about the appraisal after everything that has been done. It necessitated at least four phone conversations with the underwriters, who were rather splendid. They stayed on it but they couldn’t do very much because Liberty had an arms-link kind of arrangement with the appraiser. That was a big minus and Liberty might want to consider using another company. Otherwise, everything was positive and I felt good about going through the process.

I wanted to get some of my money back out of my home. It was paid for and I'm at a retirement age so I got a reverse mortgage from Liberty Home Equity Solutions. When I started the process with one department, they told me I was approved and that everything was fine. They said they would move me over to another department that would finish up for me. When I went to that department, they told me to have this and that before they could close. But when I got what they needed, they pushed me over to the next department. And when I went to the next department, they said they couldn't close me yet because of this and that. This went on for two months and I ended up going through six different departments. It was frustrating because most of the stuff they asked, they already had.
They kept saying they didn't have my signed 2015 tax return but I signed it three times already. I signed it again and sent Liberty an email, then three days later they still said they needed my tax return signed. Then, when I thought we were all done, they came and told me that they wouldn't close until I could prove and show them statements that I paid my homeowner dues for the last three years in my previous home. I asked them how I could close on that house to sell it if I hadn't paid my homeowner's dues. But they insisted to have the statements so I gave them the homeowners' phone number and they called them about it. It was so ridiculous.
They even asked what I pay for my homeowner dues where I am now and I told them it was in the closing statement that we had when we bought the house. They would constantly nickel and dime me to death on stuff they had in their possession all of the time and it was almost like they didn't want to do the loan. So I'm glad it's over now. We closed the deal and I picked a little bit of the cashout but I wouldn't do it again. In all the hassles that I had, I went to a guy by the name of Jerry when I got too frustrated. He was excellent. Though it wasn't his department, he went to find out what was going on and got back to me. He was a very nice gentleman who worked very hard for me and that's what I was looking for. Too bad I couldn't deal with him all the way through.

Plus, their loan officer Christopher stood out because of our communication. That’s the most important thing in a situation like this - to always be reaching out to the borrower and keeping him abreast of what’s going on.
This also goes to Angie who would always call back and make sure that we are comfortable with how things are going, and if there are any holdups or hitches even when it was already turned over to Christopher. The process took about a month, but it was within the projected time frame. My situation was very complex and it can be confusing, but the people at Liberty were able to answer my questions. It was a terrible experience with Liberty. I’m at the point right now where I'm about ready to go talk to my Attorney General and file a complaint. If I have any trouble at all getting my money back and the contractor's money, I’m going to do that. Liberty did not listen to anything that I got to say. They undervalued my home by many thousands of dollars and that’s according to a realtor here in town. I got a lot less which ensured that they get their money back. FHA required that I fix things, but the problem I had with the way Liberty administered it was they held our money back. They made me put the down payment up. They refused to give me the money out of the $18,000 that they withheld from me. When I asked for some of it to pay the contractors upfront, they would not do that. They just refused.
I haven't tried to get the second half of the $17,000 that I had to pay to get my house fixed and I had no objections at all to use the money to get the house fixed. That's why I got the loan in the first place. I wanted the loan to have my house painted and for other things, all of which were included in that estimate that I gave them after they withheld the $18,000 to do the job. But they didn’t give the down payment to the contractors to buy the materials unless they have a good faith deposit on my account. I was just told that’s the way it is, but I wasn’t told that that’s what it is before the loan went in.
I’ve been very dissatisfied in the way the approval went. I consider myself a fairly good communicator and they weren’t communicating because we started in April of this year and it was late September before I was finally approved. There’s something wrong with that. I did everything that they asked me and most of the time, the day that it was asked. The only thing that took a little bit longer was to get some of the quotes from some of the contractors because there were multiple contractors and I wanted to find the best deal that I could get.
I’m extremely dissatisfied with the way they held back my money and now they’re making me jump through so many hoops to get to it. I can’t wait until the time comes to pay off the contractor. They’ve already sent me a form that they want the contractors to sign which waives the contractor's right to put a contractor’s lien on the house. They’re gonna drag this as long as possible before they pay the contractors, all the while collecting interest off my money that they withheld. They were threatening me that if I don’t have the contractor do it, they’re going to withhold it even longer. They were even saying they were not gonna pay the second half of it. And I want that money back, too. I’m not just giving them $8,500. I expect my $8,500 back out of the money that they withheld out of the loan to pay for these repairs.

We started doing business with Liberty in July and we closed on the 30th of October. I didn't want to make payments so I went with a reverse mortgage and I've been satisfied with them. The process went right along smoothly. I got enough of what I wanted. I dealt with two different loan officers and the interactions with them went well. One got started and then they passed it over to the lady who stayed with me till it closed. They were easy to get a hold of and they checked in with me about once a week. They did what they said they were going to do. I did it in a timely manner and stayed on the time that they gave me. Liberty is an honest company and everything they said happened. They gave me 200 pages contract and nobody can understand all that. But they made sure that we understood everything including all the rules and regulations and the financial part.

My attorney and friend did our family trust and also our last will and testament. She told us to use Liberty for our reverse mortgage. I took her advice and I'm very happy with it. Liberty answered most of my questions. Every time I called, the person I contacted had all the answers for me and it was reassuring that they knew what they were doing. I asked them what would happen at the end when my wife and I both passed on. They said whatever money we haven’t used after it's all paid off would go into our estate. It would be available and distributed on the basis of our last will and testament. I was very pleased with their customer service, too. They walked me through every step of the way. There were no surprises.

Our interaction has been wonderful. Liberty's reps were very helpful and I got very good guidance from them. But the process was difficult. I started working on this project almost two years ago and there were certain things that were ridiculous, like not being able to write a check for closing out of our own account because we couldn't prove that the money has been sitting there for over 60 days. But it had nothing to do with the individuals I was working with. They were just following the rules. It was a great experience overall and I’ve told the people involved there that I really appreciated their help.

We’re an elderly couple and a reverse mortgage met our needs better. Liberty seemed to be more on top of things and they gave us a good rate. They were very forthcoming with the information and sent us everything we asked for and more. Their loan officer was very good and very knowledgeable. They laid out all kinds of options for us and did not rush us to making a decision. The process took about five weeks. It took a little bit longer than originally expected because we had a problem with the appraisal and getting the comps but it wasn't their fault. The closing went extremely well and I've been very satisfied.

We obtained a Home Equity Conversion Mortgage from Liberty. Within a few days after the HECM was closed, Liberty sold it to a servicing firm which was Ocwen Financial. It was not a suitable firm when I checked the internet and it was under extreme scrutiny by 30 states. In some cases, it was forbidden from doing new business because of their inexperience, incompetence, and lack of financial backing. Fortunately, we acquired the line of credit with an offer from Liberty for a lower borrowing amount. We are going to close the account with Ocwen because there's no way that we will put our future financial safety net at risk. I will never do business with Liberty again. I was unsatisfactorily stunned by the ultimate outcome.

The next loan officer that they gave me was also very knowledgeable and he always kept in contact. He always followed through on everything that was going on until the end. I told them I had none but they wanted one anyway so I got a blank and put zeroes all the way down and turned it in. It was ridiculous. I needed some extra cash right now, and because of my age and the equity in the house, I went for a reverse mortgage. I know I can always get back out of it if I want to. I had a shoulder injury and surgery about two years ago and my mother's in very ill health, so I haven't had a chance to even get a part-time job. I have some money coming in from my pension and I thought I could eliminate my mortgage and have a little cash to fix up the house.
Talking with my loan officer has been good. I had one original loan officer, and then he either got transferred or pulled off my case and I talked with the second person very briefly. The original guy had done most of the groundwork. I sent a lot of paperwork to him. That was already there when the other people took over what he was doing.
I went through HUD counseling and I want to make sure they didn't charge me for that since I paid upfront. I started looking into reverse mortgages close to two years ago. Then once Ocwen started sending these flyers with my monthly statement, I thought that it was convenient to go with my loan company's parent company. Plus, I thought they'd be a better fit.
Everything went smoothly. Plus, even though I got somewhat limited computer skills, I was able to do a lot with my tablet. With them being in California and me being in North Carolina, I was still able to pull it together. I thought they were very helpful. Most of it was done by mailing stuff back to them. They required that I submit an income level. I went ahead and applied for my social security benefit, and also did that online. That was something I've been thinking about doing since I was 62 anyway. I'd just been putting it off year to year, month to month. I want to get a higher percentage of my benefits. The pension plan money that was left was not enough to show three years worth of income and they wanted to see a certain level. They suggested that I apply for my benefits, because the money I had was just not enough. I'm glad I went ahead and got my benefit. I was pleased with the percentage I got.

When we purchased the house 50 years ago, there were asbestos shingles on one side only and we had them all removed as soon as we heard about the problem with them. The man that Liberty Home Equity Solutions sent to do the inspection for repairs wrote down that I had to have an inspection done by an asbestos expert. There wasn’t another shingle anywhere and it was uncalled for. I blame him for it because it cost me $250.
The inspector came and asked whether the guy knows wood when he sees it because that’s what the rest of the house is. And the guy even reported the weeds in my garden which I paid to be removed twice. He made suggestions that were stupid. Other than that, everything went well and they were accommodating and treated me very nicely. I’m 75 and my memory isn’t anywhere near what it used to be, and they helped me with a lot of things. I'm old school. Growing up, I was always told, "Save your money. Own your home when you retire then you'll be set for life." Unfortunately, life is not kind all the time with all the planning and finances. I retired, my wife passed away six months later. I was left with all the unpaid bills, which was much more than I was getting even with my annuity and Social Security. I tried to hang on for a couple of years and make my payments. Other people talked to me and said, "Why don't you come with us, debt relief. You could pay back a quarter of what you borrowed." For me, that wasn't an option. Reverse mortgage is a better option. It's money and I worked for it. This will get me out of debt with all the stuff I have, and I can finally live comfortably and keep my house.
I’m not mortgaged to my house so I sell my house, Liberty pays back, and I have plenty of equity in the house. It was just sitting there so I thought that would be the best way to go as opposed to a high-interest loan. I called Liberty and the contact I had with them initially was pleasant. It wasn’t a high-end sell-job. They’re very casual, which made me feel comfortable. The loan officer was excellent, very informative and always followed up on phone calls.

A reverse mortgage would fit my finances better and Liberty had been doing it for quite a while. Their representatives were really good. The only problem we seemed to have with the whole thing was with the appraisers. They took forever and the process went on for two months. It could be because of my location, but I talked to other banks and they told me they always had trouble with the appraisers everywhere. They don’t give you a timeframe and it takes them a month just to give you a date that might be a month out. Then, they take a couple pictures and don’t really do anything, which was one thing that I noticed.
The process was more complicated than a regular mortgage. But, it's not Liberty. It's the way the world is. Liberty's guidance was fine and they thoroughly explained everything. During the closing, they have a notary who was really knowledgeable. She had everything organized, but the paperwork was was three inches tall. It was all right for me because I still have my mental faculties, but that can be a nightmare for elderly people to go through. They can improve the overall process if they get rid of the government part. But it's mandated and they have to go through it.

He was right there to explain any of the details at any particular point in time. However, there were quite a few loopholes in there that could have been tightened up a little, all the way through the whole process. I had a problem with the backroom, the sticklers for detail. I had to send Liberty a written request, which took days to process and transfer to my account, whereas in the past, I’ve had loans with banks where in lieu of doing all of that, I just wrote checks. Liberty makes it very time-consuming to access your funds, which I find very distasteful. Some of that should have been brought out and could have been handled better upfront. I also had some communication with one other representative who called here and asked questions when we were going through the process for the closing. But when something came up and I asked him a question, he said he was driving and would call back in the afternoon. Four days later, I still had not heard from him and I didn't like that a whole lot.
If he said he was going to call back, he should have done so that day or not indicate that he was going to call back that day. I was trying to be honest with them in my thoughts and they should have been honest too. He was about halfway on the rude side. He might have had the closing on his mind and didn't want to get off track. But I thought about calling a different reverse mortgage representative then.
They shouldn't look like they're trying to hide something from somebody 'cause I was not in favor of the reverse mortgage to start with. But the wife and I got to talking. That opened the door for me to deal with them as opposed to the other 30 companies. The fact that he did exactly what I asked him to do with no fuss, muss or argument was one of the first things that set them apart.
Christopher, the gentleman that they set me up with, was extremely nice. He wasn’t pushy about anything. One of the things that he made clear to me was that he was not being paid by the hour. That was important to me because, it told me that if I did ask more questions or take more of his time, it was not going to be added to a bill that was going to come later which was a relief to me. He said, “My commission happens at the end if we work everything out.” That made me feel that I wasn’t keeping him from another appointment and he didn’t have a whole list of people that he had to call and he’d wish I'd hurry so he could get on with. Whenever he was talking with me and working with me, I was his number one priority and he made that clear. He was diligent, very polite and had a sense of humor.
He didn’t mind that I was a storyteller. It was important to him for me to achieve my goals. It wasn’t just a case of jumping through hoops and walk away. He wanted to know what I needed, my purpose, how was this going to affect my future game plan and he built a trust with me that I felt like I could reveal to him all of the pertinent facts that go into something as personal.
I would absolutely recommend Liberty. My son is a realtor, I've already let him know that if he runs into clients in Reno, Nevada, who are interested or need some help making decisions on a reverse mortgage that I've got the go-to guy and the company, but around that was built a place where my life story beginning middle and end was built into the process.

I had debts and wanted to pay them off. The loan officer who belongs to the BNI did a presentation and I was interested. I asked him questions and that’s how I found out about Liberty. He was courteous and professional. Also, the notary public who came to the house was very knowledgeable. She worked on a mortgage before and she was given some information to sign this, sign that and this is what it is for. If I read all those papers, I would have needed at least half a day, if not a day, so I signed without knowing exactly.
However, I keep on getting things that my mortgage is three hundred and something thousand and the appraisal of the house is $246,000. So, I was confused about the amount of the loan that I have. I was also not told that it would cost me $7,000. So, I got $20,000 and I already owed $27,000. I wonder how do I get the money so I could just pay it off and get out. But I'm losing out $7,000 anyway and I'm wondering now if I made the right decision. Plus, my concern is that I have to make my decision on what I'm going to do. Either I try to pay off that loan or something else that I can pay monthly because I don't want to have three hundred thousand dollars of the mortgage when I'm not going to get all that money. I wouldn’t be recommending anybody for a reverse mortgage and if I do, I would tell them exactly what they're getting into because I made a mistake.

However, they didn't let me know what the by-law was until the day I was sitting down to sign the paperwork and I almost didn't sign because of a couple of things that I didn't know about beforehand.

I looked up for Liberty online and then I contacted Peter, the loan officer. We talked to each other for a year before I decided to go through the process of another loan on a rental property. I liked that there's a cash build up if I didn't take the money right away. I got a reverse mortgage so I'd be able to eat before I pass away. I checked with one another company and Liberty had better pricing and better growth. Peter was knowledgeable, very polite, consistent and I appreciated that. He was patient with me since I'm a detail-oriented person and he answered all my questions. He was also understanding and knew what I was trying to accomplish. He showed me how I could do it and I was confident in what he was telling me.
The administrative people were efficient and I'm very pleased with Liberty. I tried to recommend them to some people but there's a stigma about a reverse mortgage and somehow, people don't understand how they work. My wife was against it, but once I got all the correct information from Peter, it was crazy for me to keep the equity in the house since I don't have a revenue stream to keep us going. I've got five years before I need to use it and then I'm going to have a growth of $100,000 that I can borrow against the house. So that makes good sense on the way houses are going up now. My experience with Liberty went fast and smooth.

I was looking online for information about reverse mortgages and there was something about FHA and HUD. I clicked on that and I thought I was going to a government website but as it turned out it was Liberty's website. I didn't realize I was contacting them. So, I might as well find out from them. And they were very helpful. I also checked out two other companies and they all seemed to be about the same. Liberty was a little bit more customer-oriented. And I knew that because it was a federal type program concerning FHA and HUD. So all things being equal, since I have started with Liberty and I was pleased with the people I was working with there, I decided to stay with them.
I first spoke with Michael and he was terrific. He explained things completely and put it in language that I understood because I've never dealt with anything like this before. They have a process where clients start out with one person and then once the actual application was put in, they’re transferred over to another person who specializes in getting everything finalized. So I ended up with Chris. Both of the gentlemen I worked with were terrific. They both answered all the questions that I had. In a lot of cases, I didn't even have to ask questions because they explained things to me first. I recommended Liberty to several people that I know. I also sent an email to Michael and mentioned both his name and Chris' name as commendation and stated how much I appreciated the work that they did. I wanted to make sure that they knew how I felt because everything went right as far as I was concerned.

I helped my aunt through getting a reverse mortgage with Liberty and I think it was a great experience. I put my aunt's house in the market because she had some medical issues and she had wanted to get out of the house. She went back and forth and my mom agreed to come stay and help her. They told me about the reverse mortgage and I said I'll look into it. If her mortgage was paid, her income would be more than enough for the rest of her bills. I needed to state her property and she has two and a half acres. Plus, she had a lot of stuff. With her age and having emphysema, I know she wanted to stay. Besides being able to sell the house, reverse mortgage was the only other outlet I've never heard of. I never heard of any other advertisements or saw anything else that would be easier to do than getting a reverse mortgage.
The loan officer was excellent, very nice, and patient. It was amazing. She knew I was really stressed up because I worked for Habitat for Humanity, and I would direct the retail operations. Plus, I'm married and I got five kids. On top of that, I'm trying to solve this problem. She was really with me through the stress of going back and forth. I really enjoyed what she was doing. Every question I had, no matter how many times I asked it, no matter when I called, I always got a response. Even for my aunt, if she needed anything, she called them.

When one goes through a process like reverse mortgage, there are times when you reach a point where you don’t understand something. You don’t know the people and the company that well and you begin to wonder if this is going to work out. Throughout the process and even through closing, everything was exactly as it was described to me. Anytime I had a question, it was answered. There were no tricks and catchphrases. We were very pleased with how it all came together exactly the way it was presented. I appreciated that.

I went on my computer looking for a business that would offer a reverse mortgage. I’m really close to retiring and so I need to have some place to live in between. Liberty came up, I read the background from Liberty online and then I decided to go with them. The loan officer was very helpful, explaining things clearly to me and answering my questions and saying what they’re going to do. Plus, they’re always easy to get a hold of.
The guidance I got was good and this was my only option right now. I couldn’t refinance my house and I couldn’t get a home equity loan nor get a home equity line of credit. So this is what I decided to go with rather than move and pay a large amount for rent. Rent around here is between $1,000 and $2,000 a month. It just made sense to use my equity now, at this time of my life, rather than when I was 80 or 90. It was a bit long to start the funding, but I was patient and they kept in contact with me and kept me informed on what the delays are all about. Despite that, I would recommend Liberty to a friend.

A representative of Liberty Home went to the senior center and spoke directly to people that were inquiring about reverse mortgages. He was very knowledgeable and precise. He walked us through the whole process and made it very understandable. As seniors, my husband and I are both in our 70s, and we knew that the bulk of our money was tied up in our house. We had some debts that needed to get cleared up and saw getting a reverse mortgage as a way of making our later years more enriching. It was the right answer for us. We've also had mounting medical bills with my husband's health and it's made our lives a lot easier.
Whenever I called, if the loan officer didn't answer the phone and I had to leave a message, he would call back ASAP. He made everything very quick and understandable. They weren't ever going to come and see me either and everything was going to be completely impersonal.
Katherine, the rep that I dealt with from Liberty Home Equity, was wonderful. She came to the house twice, sat down and talked to me. She emailed me all the paperwork so I could go over it. My daughter did all the emails for her. I could email her or leave her a phone message, she'd called me back immediately and she'd send me a note right back. She also helped me with the problem I had with the bank. It was a late payment, and she never hesitated. My wife and I were talking about Liberty, and I decided to look it up on the internet. There was one of those little questionnaires and it was like a teaser ad to see if you might qualify for a reverse mortgage. Then about 10 minutes later, I got a phone call from Liberty, which surprised me a little bit but we decided to see where it would go and the more I learned about it, I became more convinced that this was a good deal and it was the way for us to go. Liberty was so easy to deal with that I stuck with them rather than go to one of the larger companies. I found Liberty to be the Goldilocks solution. They were large enough to carry the loan themselves and see it all the way through, but small enough to have somebody who will see it through with you personally and you can call by name. I think that’s important.
Mike was the one who did the initial job and got me started on. Then a lady named Clovo took over when the actual time came to get it approved. She helped reduce some of the paperwork requirements for me. Both people were topnotch, easy to work with and seemed to desire to be very helpful to the customer. One of the things that surprised me, though I shouldn’t be, was that a reverse mortgage is a public-private enterprise, which means you have twice as much paperwork as you'd do for a regular mortgage or home equity loan. But the Liberty team was very good in working their way through all of that, keeping me informed, helping remove obstacles and recommending people.
The guidance they provided was very full and transparent. There was a requirement for a consultation with an objective third party and I found that helpful too. It actually changed my mind as to which option I wanted to go for and that actually better suited my wife’s and my needs in the future. That was all supported by Mike and Clovo so it was no big deal. It was a very good experience.

I was thinking of getting some stuff out of my house. I called in and Liberty hooked me up with a person in the office in Sacramento. I’m in Oregon but I could get to Sacramento without as much problem as L.A. I had two loan officers which I didn’t like very much. I would have liked to have the same person. But they were pleasant, especially the woman. My husband had just died, and I had other problems going on. She was very empathetic and helpful. Then all of a sudden, a new person called me and I said, “What happened to her?” There was no notice or anything, he just called and said that the person who had been working for me was leaving. I had a good relationship with her and I was fine, and she knew I was going through a lot. She was patient with me and I felt confident in her.
When I had to make some phone calls because I didn’t understand certain things, there was always somebody there to answer my questions. However, the process took forever. It was terrible. It was six months before it all got there. Not all of it is Liberty’s fault though. Because there’s nothing up here in Oregon, I had to use somebody in California, which probably caused the slowness of the process. For instance, when they had to come out and have the house appraised, they had to wait to find somebody in Oregon that can do it, not somebody from California coming up because they felt that the person from California would not be as aware of what the comps would be.
That’s their system’s lack of communication there, too, because the guy was crawling in my closet and looking at the fiberglass. And I said “What are you doing? Do you have to see how much is in there to figure out how much?” He said he was not giving them the cost of the house. They just want to see how well it’s being taken care of and does it have the right things and all that which I wasn't told of. I thought he was here to compare this to other homes in McMinnville. No, he was there to see if I have light switches, stuff in the ceiling - that kind of stuff. Everything was lengthy and I didn’t think I was going to be waiting six months to have this happen.

We were going to buy the home owned by my wife's son and do the reverse mortgage at the same time. But we had a bad experience with Senderra Lending on the reverse mortgage. They told us at the very last minute that we couldn't buy from a relative. So, we ended up doing a regular conventional loan to get the house into our name. Then Senderra was going to do the reverse mortgage, but my wife's son said that he wouldn't do the reverse mortgage loan with them. So, I went online and looked up Liberty Home Equity Solutions. They had a good rating, so I called them and talked to their rep, Carol.
Carol ran through the paperwork with us and we had a lot of problems because of the previous deal. Senderra didn't do some paperwork and the loan wasn't turned loose. According to the FHA, we couldn't apply for two loans within a certain period of time and we were applying for loans too close together. The loan processing took a lot longer than it was supposed to. There were times when we had to call Liberty and ask what was going on and they'd give us an answer, then the process went on another month.
Also, the people who did the paperwork for the loan didn't have their stuff together. They kept calling every five minutes and asking for documents right up to the last minute, even on the day before we were supposed to close. One time, the rep said that they needed a document at once since it had been so long since we did the first document. It was a pain to come up with all those documents at the last minute.
It took three months to get the reverse mortgage done and it shouldn't have taken that long to do it. Every month that the process went on, I lost about 1500 bucks because I had to make a payment, whereas if I had the reverse mortgage, I didn't have to do that. The processing of the reverse mortgage ended up costing me close to 4500 bucks because the paperwork took so long. We were not happy with the whole process. Some of it was Liberty's fault, some of it was the government's fault, and a lot of it was the fault of Senderra and the people who did the processing of the loan. Liberty's hands were tied on a lot of stuff, but Carol was on top of it all and took care of business for the most part. Finally, Liberty got the reverse mortgage done and I was satisfied.

I came across Liberty Home Equity Solutions online. Because a reverse mortgage fits my needs, I preferred getting it. I was also concerned to be taken advantage of and I saw that it was backed by the government HUD. I had two different people from Liberty who I worked with. The first person was Amika, the reverse mortgage adviser. She was absolutely fabulous and I was very impressed with her. She was very informative too. She gave me her direct number so I could call her if I had questions, which I did. I was taken in by how positive she was. If I had any doubt, she just took care of everything. She listened to me and my needs, and she cared about how I could get done what I wanted to get done. She was working for the best outcome for me. She's made a difference in my life.
I had another gentleman who came in after her. He was fun and very courteous. He called me and said, “From now on out, you'll be dealing with me.” However, because I had already established a rapport with Amika, I continued with her, also communicating anything that he and I discussed. The gentleman was helpful, but to me, she did the work. He was more of the paper end of it. But Amika did the teaching, explaining and coaching.
I was very pleased with the outcome. Even the length of time that it took wasn’t bad at all. But I had some problems that came up with working through. I managed on my end to take away any concerns Liberty had because where I was at, they were not listening to what I was saying. I was getting this loan basically to pay back some debts and consolidate. Unfortunately, I had one in there that Liberty said they would have to take care of, which forced me from the loan I wanted into a loan I did not want and cost me a lot of money. There was not a person who could do anything about it. Even though Amika went to Liberty’s roundtable and fought for me, they still overrode her. And the gentleman said, “All I can do is forward information.”
It was a bill which I managed to get paid off. Amika sent me overnight envelopes and I put my original documents. We tried faxing and it didn’t work from the banks. I said, “Look. I'll send you my originals.” So I sent it back and it was taken care of in three days. Then Liberty didn’t have a reason that they had given and so the loan went through exactly the way I wanted it.
Liberty was also messing with my house insurance, which was all okay. But we didn't have to go through all of this. So that was the part that I was not happy about. I made it come out the way I wanted to and it met their standards. So they were happy and I was happy in the end. I just didn’t like having to jump through hoops to deal with this. But even with the little hiccup I’ve had with Liberty, I would definitely recommend them. I have to take the blame for some of this, but I feel that they need to listen to people sometimes. They could have set a rule if I did not send them the receipt where it was paid. I still had a very good experience with them though.

When I started, I had $14,000 owed to the mortgage company and I looked into three or four different places to remortgage my house. I wanted to be very careful about what I was doing 'cause my husband died in October last year and my income went down 70%. I have a mobile home and only a couple of places do mobile homes. I first started dealing with Liberty in January, and when I first called, Carol was the one I was able to reach and she took her time with me and explained how things worked.
I had financial people tell me not to do it, so I called and told her that I wasn’t going to. Then she said that maybe they don’t understand and she'll explain to them anything they want to know about how things work. She sounded trustworthy and there weren't any closing costs. It was mainly because of Carol that I decided in July that I'd rather have my loan paid off and then I can pay it back at my leisure. I wanted to get the small amount of money and invest in a car that would last for the rest of my life. Liberty put me in touch with a lady in my hometown who came out to appraise the house and a guy came to inspect the underneath to make sure that it was done according to law.
I'm 75 years old and I have a suspicious nature, but Liberty put me in contact with outstanding and good people. I appreciated the guidance I got. Now, I'm paying the mortgage off and I'm happy with the experience, but I would tell people to take their time and check carefully like I did. People can get over their head easily and end up owing more than they'll ever get out of their house and that leaves their kids with nothing, but for the people who are careful with money, it's the absolute right experience. For me, it was the best way to go.

At first, I was skeptical and I was wondering why Ocwen was pushing for Liberty. After talking with them and Ocwen, they convinced me that they were two separate companies under the same parent company. Also, I was concerned at first because we had wanted to get refinancing for the lower interest rate, but they said they couldn’t do it because we were not behind on our mortgage. It didn’t sound right, but then they suggested we do a home equity loan. We thought about it for about a year and then we decided to do it.
During the process, I had a problem with my roof, and I thought that I would have to come up front with money, at first, to repair it. And they have given me until the next year to repair it because it’s raining in my house. But in a couple of weeks, we got that cleared up and everything went smoothly. Once they said my loan was final and we worked out all the details, like the repairs that I had to make, they sent me the money and it was great. So, I would recommend them.

I'm almost 70 years old, I live by myself and I'm short of cash. I retired early and I got myself in a little bit of trouble. With the reverse mortgage, I can get out and do things that I want to do. My brother-in-law did most of the research and Liberty had one of the top ratings on the internet. It was the one we went to first and it seemed to be good. The people I dealt explained it and everything else so I signed up with them. Abby was the first one I dealt with and she was tremendous. Katie was good too.
We had to go through a counseling service with a professional. That was mandatory to go over all of the intricacies of the reverse mortgage. Everything was smooth but I had to make a few phone calls. I have to make another one today because I got a check in the mail stating "for taxes already paid" and I'm not sure what that is about. I was under the impression that I still had to pay the taxes. All of a sudden, I'm receiving a check for my quarterly tax bill.
My only complaint is that I'm getting phone calls, emails and text messages. I'm also getting letters in the mail at least once a day from some sort of finance company over this reverse mortgage. I'm upset about that but I have talked to their rep Katie about it. There are certain ones that they can't block like government regulations. I sent back a form with the ones that I checked off which I don't want to have any communication with.

My wife is very sick and we don’t have any long term medical insurance. Sooner or later, one of us is going to wind up in an institution that’s going to drain a lot of our money. Looking at my assets, I have no way of paying for that, so I set up a line of credit for that particular purpose. Liberty was one of reverse mortgage companies listed to do business with online, so I saw their name and figured they must have some integrity to get on the list. I went to an education process and I was always on the phone. HUD asked me a number of questions and gave me their perspective on the line of credit. They didn’t blow the whistle while I'm doing business with Liberty and Len, the guy I worked with, thought that the line of credit was very helpful.
Len has been very helpful in assisting me. If I have any questions, I call him and he picks up the phone and answers the question. I went through the process as if I were going to move into a reverse mortgage except that Liberty had an independent party to assess the market value of the house and based on that, they set up a line of credit, which I have access to whenever I need it. It's almost a seamless process and it operates exactly the way they said. The institution that works with Liberty sends me a monthly statement, which tells me how much money I have in my line of credit, how much it has grown and what the rate of interest is. Also, I get a sheet of paper attached to a rundown, which allows me to request money without any questions asked.
I'm eligible for $80,000. I can write that amount down and they’ll send it to me. If I don’t use the money, there is no reverse mortgage, but if I get pushed into a point where I have to use that line of credit, then I can use all of it, a portion of it, or a little of it. I have the opportunity to pay it back if I want and while the money in the line of credit is not being used, it's earning interest. My experience has been very good and I'm satisfied.

My wife recently passed and my income had been reduced by a third. I needed a way to live without having to go on welfare and I thought there's an investment in the house and I don’t have anyone else to need to have it. My kids are well off and even though they don’t come visit me I go visit them. I was also facing possible cataract surgery and I didn’t have enough money to do that even with my Medicare supplement chipping in. I went online looking for a reverse mortgage and I was attracted to the title, Liberty. So that’s the one that I clicked on and started answering questions.
I first spoke with Jonathan and he was wonderful. He walked me through the paces and I must have talked to him by phone a dozen times at least. Even in the end, I followed up with him because I wasn’t getting the answers that I needed. But locally when it got put through to the closing, I understood the paperwork and everything seemed to go through okay. When I was beginning to wonder as to the taxes that needed to be paid and I wasn’t sure of how I would know that had been done, Jonathan gave the name of the group that’s handling the money that’s available to me the first year. I did the phone thing on that and even though I put in all the information, they didn’t seem to have me loaded in. So I did the wisest thing and called the treasurer department here at the City of Portland. I asked them to look up whether it had been paid then I got a call back on the day that it was due which said that it had been paid.
There were also a couple of other reps that were very good at follow up. I got a call every other day in the process that let me know what steps were being done and where I would be looking. It was on the 23rd of August that the closing occurred and three days later, in the period that I could have said no, I saw the deposit put in the bank account and that allowed me to pay a couple of debts that I planned to do initially. I was pleasantly surprised that things happened as quickly as they did. Liberty's reps have well-mastered their process and everything is going very well.

Liberty was recommended by a friend of mine. Their loan officer was very thorough, concise, precise, and he explained everything. The whole process took six weeks, which was a little longer. We bought and paid for this place and we've been here for 11 years, and it wasn’t put in our name. So, we had to jump through some hoops, and if it hadn’t been for that, the process would have taken four weeks. Overall, it was a very pleasurable experience. Doing a reverse mortgage seemed the wisest thing to do, and we're very happy we went with Liberty. And if I had to do it over again, I would definitely go back to them. I would also recommend them to anyone I know.

Our niece works for Liberty and she told us about their company. Because of our age, we decided to choose a reverse mortgage. We looked at another company, but we liked the persons from Liberty that we were working with. We worked with Carol and another young lady named Yvette. The process was arduous because of HUD and all the stipulations that they have, plus the loan stuff and the builder. But Carol was a good worker and was very much on it. She pursued everything she could until we reached the stop-gap waiting for somebody else to do something. Yvette had the part of getting the application to the underwriter and getting through that. It was a tiring process but we'd still recommend Liberty. We liked them, they did a good job and the difficulties we had were not their doing.

I don’t have children so I'm not worried about leaving anything but I'd rather not have a loan against the house. I've been on disability for 15 years and when I was first sick, my insurance company cancelled me and I was homeless for a while. A reverse mortgage was so much easier than going through the bank and Liberty Home Equity Solutions was recommended by my neighbor Linda. At that time, I actually had not done my research and I was convinced that I would eventually lose my home. I really needed to know that that would not happen and the Liberty team was able to calmly, logically and naturally explain everything. My very first experience put me at ease about making the decision to get the loan and working with this particular person. And then, the next person was great too and everybody has been super nice. The experience was a fairly pleasant experience when I got a hold of the right person who had the right answers. I worked with four of their representatives and three of them were pretty good. One of them was a bit naive to the whole process, but the last person who I spoke to was the most informative. The process took no more than two weeks which was very quick. The appraisal came through in three days after I requested for it. There was one incident when they wanted to close the day I was talking to them on the phone and I wasn’t quite ready for that so we closed the next day. It would’ve been faster had I gone ahead and closed the day they wanted to close on.

The first guy I talked to was Gary. I talked to about four different home equity companies and I decided to go with Liberty, because with the way I wanted to use it, Gary told me they'd work best for me and I agreed with him. Then he passed me along to another gal who did a fine job and we got it done. So far so good and I got all my questions answered. I haven't taken any of the money out yet, but it's there and ready to be used. It's nice to know that it's there if I needed it. I don't know if that changed my life, but it’s taken some pressure off my brain. Plus currently, I wouldn't have to sell my house right away and I have time to sell it.
There were a couple of things in the process that I didn't like, for instance, the unbelievable amount of paperwork and signing. I could not believe that it was necessary. Plus, they wanted to know everything about my finances, when it should have just been about the house. I don't know if that's a Liberty thing though. Why do they need to know if I have other properties or if I have other businesses or how much money is in my IRA. I didn't think it was any of their business because it's a home equity loan. It should just be what's the value of the house. They gave me 40 percent of the value of the house, so why did they need all that extra information, all documented? But the people that I was dealing with, I told them the same thing and they just said, that's what they tell them you got to get. So if there's anything in the process I would change, it would be that.

The process went smoothly because I had gone through Citigroup three months ago and tried to get a loan. The things that I needed when I got to Liberty already had the information.
At first, I thought that I would have to go to different places because I had to take a test and I had to have paperwork and stuff. Liberty came to my home and when I needed to send something, they sent envelopes with the paperwork in it and then I brought it to the FedEx place. The process scared me at first, but they made it easy. I learned a lot going through it. It was a little stressful because you never know what they're going to ask you for. When they needed the original birth certificate, which was one of the last things I had to come up with, I didn’t have it. But they took the brown one I had instead of the original. I've been having a rough time and he guided me. I've been very ill from 2012 and he knew it. An ileostomy was done right in the middle of us working on this. I live in Tacoma and I went down to Arizona a month after I had the ileostomy to help my daughter out. We did the majority of the paperwork down in Arizona. He set it up down there and the lady came on there. I'm the youngest son and I've lived here all my life. I'm 61 and I'm bound to my mother since she's been through three different accidents. She's 93 and she's having abandonment issues, memory loss and a little bit of dementia. She's gone through two nursing home type of rehabs and based on the way she was treated, I didn't want her to have to go through all of that. The alternative was to keep her in her home but she can't get around on her own, cook or keep her balance. She's had constant care and I've been paying for the doctors. I'd like keeping the home too but I'm not making any money. I'm really living off of her Social Security and this house until I get to 65 but I don’t know if we're going to make it at this rate.
We were running out of money and I didn’t know what we were going to do. Liberty Home Equity Solutions gave us a call and we talked about how this market was the seller’s market and that the value of the house had gone up. I researched that and it was the stopgap for us. Greg was our loan officer and he was always attentive to our needs. He asked the right questions and when he made a suggestion, he would research it for us. He would also tell us what he's done with other people and made it seem like we weren't alone and that this wasn't a unique situation.
Everything melted together and it wouldn't have happened unless I had somebody who knew what they were doing. Greg was very good and we got along great. Working with Liberty kept my mother in the house and happy. It also got me a burr under my saddle to get going on selling some things and trying to do some stuff. I heard about the reverse mortgage on TV, went online to check out the company, inquired on reverse mortgages and Liberty was one of the two companies that answered. Liberty called me and I talked to Thomas. By that time, I received another call from AIG, but that lady wasn’t very receptive and didn’t have the quality like Thomas had. She needed to get some classes on how to talk to people. Thomas, on the other hand, explained everything in detail to me. Every question I had was answered right away, and I felt very, very comfortable. He’s the best and Liberty should hire more people like him.
I consulted my son because he was the one who told me to start looking into reverse mortgages because my three surviving children have expressed that they were not interested in getting my house from loan. They thought that I should take advantage of being able to use that money for whatever I needed now before I’m gone. My son and I were inquiring about all the questions we had and we found out that in my situation, that was the best thing for me to do. We both went through the counseling session by phone and it was a three-way line. All the questions we had were answered to our satisfaction and I moved forward with that.
Thomas had my case and we went through almost three-fourths of the way when he was told to pass me on to one of his associates. After Thomas passed me onto a young lady, I had to wait until she got the answers that I was seeking and that only raised the thing that put my case. It took about two-and-a-half months to wrap, which was a little too long. The young lady sounded like she was new on the job and wasn't very much up on all the issues involved. Liberty should let the same person handling the case stay until everything is taken care of from start to end.
There were some points when I felt like giving up because it was taking too long, but it also involved the appraiser. The first appraiser Liberty hired came, did everything and vanished. Thomas and I were waiting to hear from the appraiser and it took about two or three weeks. Liberty decided to hire somebody else and that second one did a good job. Those delays are inevitable because they’re not under the direct control of Liberty, but those put clients like myself on edge because it delays the ending of the transaction. Other than that, everything was handled in a very courteous and professional manner, and it has the human touch we didn’t feel the other company had. I got so many different choices on how I can get this situated and settled so that I can program it for my own life and I really couldn't go wrong. They're very good and I was happy with my experience.

I was looking for different bits of information about something like a reverse mortgage and Liberty Home sent me some inquiry if I was interested in it. We have no heirs and we want to use the equity in our property and Liberty seemed like a good way to do it. They contacted us and they seemed very reasonable in all stages. We got it and it all went fine.
The rep was courteous and efficient and he stayed in touch. The process took about two months and part of it was to go through a long extensive interview with a representative from some government official and Liberty sent us a very informative package which we ran in detail. I already looked at a lot of the general product so I wasn’t new to the process. I had some questions which the Liberty answered and by the time we talked to the government representative, they went over all those same things that I have asked about and confirmed the information I've gotten from Liberty. The government guy said that we had a good understanding.

Liberty charged a higher interest rate but I didn’t pay the fees upfront and closing cost. Everybody was great and very congenial. The women who came to the house to do the processing of the application and the loan were nice and proficient. They were fairly accurate and responsive. The process took a little long but it wasn't Liberty's fault and part of that was because I was on a vacation and we went away for some weeks and when I got back, they had to have the appraiser and it took a while to get the appraiser lined up.

I had to get some extra money because my income was so low that I could not afford the upkeep in the house. Everything was so much and when I was trying to get a reverse mortgage with Wells Fargo here in Montrose, the man I was working with there contacted Liberty Home Equity Solutions for me. I've talked to several of their loan officers and they've all been good. Overall, the company’s been there when I needed them.

My health is free and clear, and I did not want to have a second mortgage where I had to make a monthly payment, so I researched about reverse mortgages on the internet. I came across with Liberty Home and they responded to the inquiry that I put out on their website. The dealing with their loan officer went great. I was getting the paperwork and this reverse mortgage set up with the first person I spoke to when I was passed off to another person, and then to a third person so I was a little disconcerted. They were all very helpful, but I had thought the way the website went I would be with one person from beginning to end. Other than that, everybody was pleasant and knowledgeable. I was treated professionally by an organization I was in contact with.

I belong to a group almost like AARP and I learned about Liberty through the Association of Mature American Citizens. My wife and I looked at one other company and we had been thinking a couple of years ago of doing it. But the group that I belonged to had Liberty as one of their sponsors. We also looked online about all the reports for Liberty and they seemed pretty good. We took a reverse mortgage because of the no payment per month. We also figured it was like borrowing from our bank and the interest rate was pretty decent. We also wanted to finance a motor home to do some more traveling and we figured we'd have to pay monthly on the mortgage for the motor home plus the interest was a little bit high. So we figured we'd use our own money.
Anytime we needed anything or had a question, Liberty's reps seemed like they were always available. I'm pretty sure they were in California and we're in New York State but every time we needed them, we could call and they would answer and help us out. We also sat down and talked with our adviser in there from Liberty. We had a conference where we told him what we wanted to do, what we were thinking of and why we were doing it. He gave us other options and discussed other things but eventually we chose what we've done. It was a long drawn out process which took at least 60 days. If somehow, they could shorten it, it would seem better for their customers because the closing took quite a while. There were a few hitches along the way but not a lot. It just seemed very time consuming for the underwriters and everybody to get together.

I went online to see if I would qualify for a reverse mortgage, and then Liberty Home Equity Solutions contacted me. They were clear and upfront about everything. I felt good once I talked to them because they were helpful and understanding, and explained everything the way I needed it explained when I got confused. I worked with two women there and they were helpful. They gave me their phone numbers and they reached out to me. They were not pushy in trying to get me to do the reverse mortgage. They told me, "Make sure you think about this. And here's the number you could call for the counseling" because I had to take counseling before anything else.
I started the process in the middle of May of 2017, and the whole thing was done by the first part of August. It's a long process but it's reasonable. There was a lot of paperwork, and there was a lot of people they have to contact and I have to contact. I didn't need the money immediately. They gauge the situation right for me and they told me what they were going to do and the things that I needed to do. But they weren’t pushy, and at every single step of the way, they always reminded me that I could step away from the process any time I wanted and that I was not under any obligation to them. It was a difficult situation since I was selling my home where I have been for over 40 years and it was nice of them to be sensitive about that. I was very satisfied and have recommended Liberty to a friend.

Liberty Home Equity Solutions had a product and I had a need due to hospital bills. I approached, asked, and they gave me the answers and I appreciated it. My realtor initially told me about the company and I already had a reverse mortgage with them. Carolyn was our loan officer and she came over and we talked about it. She did some very nice things and kept me in touch all the way. I went in the assistance and we talked to them and they taught us all about it. I learned an awful lot from them. Then I went back to Carolyn and she did everything she could. She showed up at the closing while the gal from the notary public who was supposed to go through and sign all the papers didn’t make it. Carolyn sat here and stuck with us for an hour and a half while she negotiated her coming over and getting copies so she could notarize it. She did a gallant effort and I enjoyed dealing with her.

In a reverse mortgage product, I don't have to pay back the loan. I then decided to get this product and I went with Liberty Home Equity Solutions since their ratings on Google were higher. James, the loan officer, helped me out. He and another guy were awesome and walked me through the whole process and through everything. Liberty Home Equity was awesome and very customer-friendly.

Back in 2014, I did a reverse mortgage. I went in to take the class to be informed about it where they wrote down two names for me to call if I wanted to and I called one which was Cambridge Mortgage. I went through them because WCC and all the radio stations I listened to talked about Cambridge all the time. It's also a local and really good company. Then they sold the reverse mortgage to Liberty. And last year, I started getting offers telling me to refinance since the value of my property has gone up. One day I got a phone call when I was going to start calling some of the offers. It was Gary from Liberty and since I was already with them and I liked him, I stayed with them.
I'm retired and have a low income. I also had roof repairs and major things I needed done that I could not afford. Plus I had to continue making house payments which I couldn't afford either, so I did the refinance. I dealt with three different people from Liberty. Gary started it out then he turned it over to another gal and she turned it over to someone else.
Everyone was very nice but I found it a little disturbing that when we were ready to close on it, there was a problem with my low income versus my credit card debt. They wanted me to pay off the account I had for for my dental and med bills, and close it. But there was no way I was going to do it because it's the account that I get interest free if I pay it off. They did work it out so that it went through. But from the time we first started doing the refinance, I sent in all that information. They knew what I made and what I owed. All in all, our transaction went pretty good though. They seemed to know pretty much what was going on and handled things. They were courteous, too and it wasn't a bad experience.
