I subscribed to the Trans-union website for over 2 years. They listed my score as 847 (excellent). I would check my score and file usually every 2 weeks and for over 2 years my score was the same 847, even after refreshing it. A few months ago my bank provided a free trans-union credit score and file for their customers to view. My score at the bank trans-union which is apparently directly from Trans-union is 721, well that baffled me and I more or less accused the bank of doing something to that score as it did not reflect the score on the actual trans-union website. The bank assured me they do not manage the trans-union score and it is directly from trans-union.
I sent in a dispute to Trans-union about my score on their website and the different score at the bank,, The first letter they completely misinterpreted what I was saying, so I sent another and tried explaining it again, Next time I logged into the Trans-union website my score had magically changed to 721 same as the bank one. Long story short, I paid $20 a month for 2 years to view an incorrect credit score of 847.
I immediately cancelled my subscription to Trans-union and subscribed to Equifax, which seems a lot better and for the same money I paid trans-union. At Equifax they scan the internet to see if your SIN, C. C or bank account is used anywhere, and the credit score was more believable than that almost perfect score at trans-union that was an incorrect credit score. Needless to say I would never recommend trans union, not after they showed me an incorrect credit score for over 2 years.

TransUnion refuses to remove an unauthorized hard inquiry on my credit report. I was a victim of identity theft in Jan 2020, and Wells Fargo contacted all of the credit bureaus to remove the account and change the inquiry from "hard" to "soft". Every credit bureau EXCEPT Transunion has already fixed the issue. There is no reason Transunion cannot complete a simple request in almost a year's time.
I called Transunion today (12/9/2020 @ 7:35 AM PST) and spoke to three reps on the phone (1-800-813-5604) who kept saying the next person would remove my inquiry. However, the last female "supervisor" at 7:50 AM refused to remove it and told me good luck... I wish I had written down her name to file a complaint with Transunion because she was really rude, unhelpful, and unknowledgeable about the whole process of removing an unauthorized inquiry. Note: I have also filed a complaint with Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) ** to make sure the government is aware of Transunion's fraudulent consumer practices.

This company (top credit reporting bureau) charged me 24.95 as mentioned on here by other users without notifying me that I'm sighing up for a subscription. They charge 24.95 for your credit score every month which you can find on free websites or your bank account. I was only trying to file a dispute and their website made it seem like it's part of the process, asked for my CC for identity validation. I couldn't cancel the substation either, it would log me out each time I'd try. I called my bank and they reversed the fee. They are blatantly scamming people.

Over the last 15 months I paid almost 50% of the balance of my cards each month and it was satisfying that my credit scores went up with Experian and Equifax taking me from a Good rating to Very Good. I was however perturbed that my score with Transunion stayed the same throughout the entire period. In September I cleared the balance of the cards in full and did not use them in October. I was really perturbed to see my report today that Transunion has dropped my score by 50 points for no apparent reason. When I asked them why they said creditors expect to see consumers using at least 1 - 25% of their available credit. I asked them to confirm specifically if my score would go down if I used less than 1% or more than 25% of my available credit on any card and they said yes.
I spoke to my main creditor and they said this is nonsense - they said they only flag a warning if a consumer persistently uses 75% or more of their available credit whilst making only the minimum payment for X number of months, or goes over the limit or racks up charges. They said as long as a consumer is meeting the contractual payment and running their account well they would never be penalised for using more than 25% of available credit or for having a zero balance for a month.
So under Transunion scoring system I am penalised if I use more than 25% of credit on a single card, and also penalised if my balances are less than 1% for more than a few weeks - that is hardly a fair or just system as it is requiring consumers to keep balances on their credit cards (and be charged the interest accordingly) just to keep within Transunion's ridiculous rules. Consumers should never be penalised for paying off their debts/balances which Transunion has admitted their system is doing.

I put in my information to get a credit report, assuming this site was like Equifax or the other bureaus, next thing you know, I'm getting charged $26. Off to the side, in tiny print, it shows you're signing up for a subscription. I called and the rep said he would cancel the account and refund me. I already contacted my credit card company and told them to cancel the transaction, I got a new credit card number, I reported them to the PA attorney general and the FTC. They need to stop trying to scam people. Disgusting behavior. If you accidentally sign up for their services, and they refuse to give you a refund, go on the BBB website and write a complaint to your state's attorney general. They should return your money.

I have had a very low credit score with them for a long time and could not figure out why! After finally giving up and paying for the membership fee just to review my report, I find that one of my accounts is labelled as a bankruptcy account. I have never filed bankruptcy so I know that is inaccurate. The bank also verified such! I called personally, submitted a dispute & months later receive the results saying the information is correct. Go figure, the information is correct because they disputed the wrong account! The website dispute center will not work & they seem to be closed on weekend. Extremely hard to contact them, let alone get my credit file corrected. Thankfully, most places that check my credit are understanding of that being the only low score due to THEIR mistakes! I am very fed up with them! Too bad we can't choose our credit companies!!!

I have made tremendous efforts to improve and maintain good credit (paid off house, paid off cars, paid off loans, 100% pay-on-time record, excellent debt to income ratio, keep my credit card accounts 40% or lower in utilization, sometime (15-30%))...all this and my credit score with TransUnion never moves. Experian and Equifax scores fluctuate based on my monthly activities and improves accordingly, never with Transunion, it's stagnant or either they will decrease it without any basis. Transunion shouldn't be allowed to ruin people's lives due to a lack of work/monitoring/scoring consistently and in alignment with credit activities. They should be shut down, credit is vital and could literally make or break someone.

I have several accounts in American banks, and TransUnion indicates that there is no account and due to the fact that they do not know the accounts, they generate an underestimated credit score. In addition, they offer to pay them in order to artificially raise the credit score. I opened a dispute and indicated in which banks my accounts are, but they do not respond. Any other credit monitoring company is better than TransUnion. Other credit monitoring companies give me the correct credit score in parallel. TransUnion is not a serious and unscrupulous company.

Two had gone up tremendously as I expected because I paid one credit card off and paid the other down. Instead of TransUnion elevating my score they lowered it and their reasoning is my credit cards decreased. I called TransUnion and spoke with not one but three idiots that kept telling me it's their system that does the reporting and there is nothing that can be done. You can’t even dispute it because there is nothing to dispute. I’m so frustrated right now. These were very poor excuses and this scoring has set me back.

They advertise that it's updated every 24 hours so what I understand is I can refresh every day, every week or even every month if I wanted to by clicking refresh score. Nothing happens! I use to call customer service but they are not help! You're asked to clear your browser history, cookies, password etc... It still won't refresh! I waste so much time trying and today over an hour! I recently applied for a loan to purchase a pair of hearing aids and was turned down because of some discrepancies in my information and TransUnion's information. Upon checking my profile on Transunion's website I noticed a number of discrepancies. I did not bother to correct them, I was so disgusted with Transunion inadequate and poor knowledge of my financial position. I have opted to not do business with companies using their services and inquiring about the agencies used when needing credit. After suffering a credit score decline of 250 points due to being laid off last year, I worked diligently on securing gainful employment, keeping my active accounts current and establishing payment plans with my 2 accounts that became charge offs. Over the next 10 months my credit score SLOWLY increased up to an average (all 3 credit bureaus) of 616. Nothing new was added to my credit history other than balances DECREASING.
All of the sudden, TransUnion dropped my credit score 45 points on 6/13/20. **Be advised, this was ALL the points I earned by paying double the minimum payment for 10 months. After speaking to 3 different TransUnion reps, I was told Credit Karma was giving me inaccurate details and instructed to purchase a TransUnion Credit Report. I paid $27 and called back only to be told I should continue working on paying my debts to see a credit score increase. I am such a fool for letting TransUnion bully me when I was so emotionally vulnerable and hurt by losing the progress I was so proud of. Moving forward, I pray this company will be exposed for the joke they are.

They report late, do not report the same info to all creditors. I have perfect credit. Always have, always will. My cr report with Credit Karma is 830 for TransUnion and 835 for Equifax.--TransUnion reports this number on credit karma and does not report the same # to Discover Card--still excellent at 795, but a discrepancy noteworthy. I plan on following this erroneous reporting and, if necessary, to avail myself of all legal remedies that I have at my disposal. Credit is an important necessity in our country and reporting agencies should and will be accountable--as they purport to do with the information they disclose on us.
I will start first with a call to them regarding this discrepancy. If not satisfied, I will send a registered letter requesting their changes to be made within a 10 day time frame. I will then contact my congressman/both state and federal regarding problem and get the appropriate govt. oversight and follow-up. As you can see, I will continue this fight until the appropriate remedy is made to all creditors--perhaps class action---Mike **

Wednesday, 11 March, 2020, at 1:24 PM EDT, I called TransUnion, but my call was dropped after being placed on hold. I called again at 1:28 PM requesting you to lift the freeze on my credit report so PNC Bank could acquire information needed for a mortgage. I called because I was unable to lift the freeze online. There was a problem with your website, that did not allow me to get to the area where I could do this.
After giving the man who answered all the pertinent information and asking security questions, he supposedly unlocked my account to grant PNC access to my credit report. I called PNC Bank and informed them that the report was now unlocked. About 90 minutes passed, when PNC called me back and stated the credit report was still locked, as per the TransUnion representative they contacted. At 4:03 PM EDT, I called TransUnion a second time to request my credit report be unlocked. The woman I spoke with claimed it was unlocked, and I explained to her what had happened. She told me to have the bank call again, perhaps PNC had called too soon. I spoke with PNC Bank immediately and they tried again. Again, no luck. Supposedly, my account was unlocked, but when PNC called TransUnion, they were being told by your representative that my report was still locked.
This exercise was repeated the next day, Thursday, 12 March, 2020. PNC notified me the credit report was still locked or frozen. Once again, I called TransUnion. The first call was at 2:07 PM EDT. I went through the entire story yet again. The lady at TransUnion stated the problem may be at PNC's end and to try again. My report was definitely not frozen or locked. I phoned PNC and told them to try it again. They did and called me back. No luck! The report was still locked. In the meantime, I finally was able to get to the page on your site where I could unlock or remove the freeze from my account online. After I logged in, and attempted to remove the lock, I received a message that stated "Your TransUnion Credit Report Freeze Status is currently unknown."
At 2:22 PM EDT, I phoned TransUnion again. I was told my account was not locked or frozen, AGAIN! I asked how it was possible that my report was not frozen when I called, but when PNC bank called they were being told it was still frozen. I also explained to this lady that this was the fourth time I had called about this same issue. I then further related the incident with your web page when my attempt to unlock my report failed and I received the message I quoted above. How could my report be locked to PNC, unlocked to me (only via telephone) and unknown when I access it online, and all at the same time? I asked to speak to a supervisor and this didn't happen. I asked to speak to a supervisor at least three times, and still, no supervisor ever came to the phone. I was referred to technical assistance about the "unknown status." They were of no use. No one cared enough to attempt to solve the problem.
On 16 March, 2020, I logged onto your site to see if anything had changed, I received the same message as I did 4 days ago: "Your TransUnion Credit Report Freeze Status is currently unknown." When I called again that same day, at 1:03 PM EDT, I spoke with a lady and explained what was happening. She pulled out my report and stated it was LOCKED! I asked her to unlock my report and begged PNC Bank to try it one more time. On 18 March, I was informed by PNC that my credit report was still locked and they were denying me a mortgage, because they could not access my credit report. For this, I am holding TransUnion responsible, and will take whatever action I can.

I maintain credit score monitoring with Experian and Equifax because they are the ones used by most creditors and lenders, it seems. I decided to add Transunion to complete the trio. The "free" report was shocking. They placed me at two levels below the other two credit rating agencies. And why? I have an exceptional record and a score to match -- so why am I so far down with Transunion! All the numbers and facts support a much higher credit score for me which the other two agencies give me. What is Transunion's problem? Maybe this is why lenders and creditors rely on the other two companies - Experian and Equifax. Also scary -- any lender or creditor that uses Transunion. And yes, there is NO WAY to send a message to Transunion within their website. They don't really want to hear from me.

TransUnion offers an app that allows one to place a security and a PIN for later management. Attempting to use the app, I was alerted that I would need to call a particular phone number to engage this ability. It seems, you see, that I can't use the app due to some insufficient data on my account. I called to rectify the information per the error notice and was transferred around between 4-5 phone numbers where each person answering could not fix the problem. After about 30 minutes I gave up, had them place the freeze via the phone number and will probably just leave the freeze.
I may just refuse to deal with lenders that use these guys unless I have to. Perhaps if enough of us do this, this bureau will get the message. I'm glad to have found these reviews. Though some of them don't offer more than accusations, one can put the pieces together enough to know not to directly give them any money.

If I'm gonna get penalized for paying off something early the credit bureau can kiss it!!! Anytime I use my card because it's something necessary like when I had to have my teeth fixed they penalize you for using it too much. I called in to complain but the customer service representatives were unfazed, as if it was common practice. I wasn't able to log into any of the four options and the "forgot my password" link was not working (it would just refresh the page and delete my entries in the web form). After trying all of them unsuccessfully, I tried creating a new account to see if it would give me access. After successfully creating a new account, I received an email that I had been billed $29.95. At no point did I authorize Transunion to charge my credit card.
I realized that I had inadvertently signed up for their monthly credit monitoring service. Usually websites have you confirm a transaction prior to them charging your credit card. Transunion did not do this. I thought I would call customer service and explain my dilemma and ask for a refund. Since I hadn't used any of the services that came with their paid subscription, this should have been an easy request for them to grant. Instead, the person I spoke with assumed I was trying to defraud the company of their money. He put me on hold for 10 minutes while he "checked data" and then flat out refused to give me a refund.
After arguing back and forth that I did not want the credit monitoring service I finally asked to speak with a manager and of course he responded that his supervisor was "unavailable." I believe that they purposefully make their site confusing to scam people into signing up for things they don't want or need. Some of the reviews below from other consumers seem to confirm this. I showed the report to the rental property, so they resubmitted the request for a report, and again received from TransUnion a different score than TransUnion was reporting to me.
I called TransUnion, and their customer service told me over the phone that the credit score I had was correct. I asked how they could report a different score to the property management, and they said there is only one credit score. After much argument with the rental property management, we finally discovered what was going on. TransUnion reports one credit score (the score you'd have for a credit card application) to consumers and a different credit score (the score you'd have for buying or renting real estate) to the property management. Not a single TransUnion "customer support" person among the many that I spoke to during this time knew anything about that. They refused to share the score they were reporting to the property management office with me, even though it was my credit score they were reporting...and that was after paying $25 to get the same information I get from Credit Karma for free.
So I canceled the account with TransUnion, frustrated that I had wasted $25 for nothing. But it got worse. Even after canceling, I continued to get charged $25 PER MONTH for their utterly useless service. Calls to their customer service line were met with ignorance, as they were unable to cancel the service. Thursday, 2019/10/17 EDT 1655 hrs. TransUnion is a horrible credit bureau. Just in case readers are thinking I did something wrong: A credit score defines one's reliability alerting creditors of risk potential. I've a flawless history, never bounced a cheque, never used more than 3% utilization ratio on my revolving accounts [Credit cards, line of credit, etc...], flawless biweekly preauthorized payments on my loan, no delinquent accounts, AND I'm a regular blood donor not because I'm a nice person but because it's the decent thing to do. Being decent is a way of life for me. Being decent also entails paying all debtors off every month like clockwork long before due date, YET my credit score with Transunion is very poor because I've a few inquiries on it. [Five (5) in the last six years.]
This is the reasoning the foreign accent staff at Transunion gave me, I just don't get it. According to paper - I'm this monster, a horrible person who is a high risk, not to be trusted. [Because I've five (5) inquiries?] That's how I got my loan, credit cards, line of credit etc... WTF? That's the whole idea of establishing credit to get a good credit score! There's a serious dissonance between debtors and credit bureaus: My banking institution [RBC] recently gave me a reference letter commending me for my strong profile and that I've an outstanding history, yet according to Transunion's algorithm, I'm goddamn monster on paper, that's just wrong, I've an excellent credit score with Equifax. I give up.

If you are going to sell me a score from another agency, then it should be the RIGHT score. And they should make it easy for individuals to purchase their score and report without having to sign some long term digital contract that needs cancellation in order to stop the billing cycle. And in fact, why the hell are they charging me for my information, and collecting money from businesses that are using my personal information for credit worthiness. Why are consumers being charged? That's BS. You are making money from the businesses, and you are charging me for something that belongs to me! My credit history! That is not theirs! They just collect the data and come up with algorithms to sale to businesses. Isn't that enough money? Geez....

I was also set up in the subscription amount unintentionally when I signed up. I got an two alert on my bank after browsing through their website after signing up, a recurring charge of $24.95 and a one time fee of $29.99. I was somehow clicking around and agreed to purchase something for $29.99 so when I reviewed their sign up page, there it was the $24.95 monthly free plus taxes where applicable. The $29.99, I had no idea so I decided to call the next day.
Granted I was really droopy at 1 am when this happened and would have normally caught these things otherwise. The number was there but it was obviously designed in a way for customers to overlook it which is extremely deceptive. You can look it up, it's called Black Patterns UX (User Experience). If their intention is not to deceive their potential customers then they really need to get a new UX Designer since I'm sure all these complaints are costing them lots of money, especially those doing bank disputes. Anyway, I was livid at myself and at the company for using such tactics since they are a Consumer Credit Reporting Agencies, a legitimate business with access to millions of personal private information. Using such tactics is beneath them and very unbecoming to say the least.
I called the next day and the first lady helped me cancel the subscription and gave me a refund but couldn't help with the $29.99 charge, so I talked to the second lady, who was her supervisor, who helped me refund the $29.99 as well. Both to be refunded in 3-5 business days so hoping that goes through. The charges are still pending in my bank so hopefully it would be faster.
I just noted that I wanted to check out the website just to find out I was being charged for services I did not need nor want at this time. I talked to them calmly and respectfully since I am sure they get this ALL the time, at no fault of their own. Both were extremely helpful and that's customer service done right! Overall, I would still consider them if ever I need something more thorough in my Credit Reports. But ONLY thanks to their customer service for saving a BAD strategic decision into making a potential customer into victims, and affecting the image of their brand using tactics associated with deceit and scams.

TransUnion should not be in business anymore. They have no idea what they are doing and they do not care enough to do the proper research when you file a dispute. We sold a car in June 2019 and the loan was confirmed paid off late that month. BUT it is still on our credit reports. This is a joke. We have filed four disputes and they still have not fixed the problem. Equifax cleared it off our report in late July. Why is a company that clearly does a horrible job for consumers still allowed to stay in business.

Yes they wanted a credit card, thought it was strange, but usually before your card is charged on sites they show what you are purchasing-they did not. While going between the 3 credit bureaus I go to Transunion's site to check my status with them. Upon doing so I realized I had no online account with them. I went through the motions to sign up for online access and accidentally enrolled for credit monitoring and was charged $24.95. Granted, I did input my card information but I solely thought it would be for verification purposes especially since I'm signing up for an online account with a credit bureau. I have online accounts with both Equifax and Experian and had not been charged for either of them so I did not encounter this issue.
Of course, I immediately canceled my subscription but it was too late by then - I had been charged for the first month subscription. I did not speak with their customer support because I feel partly to blame. I do however feel like they could've been more clear. Specifically, the final page where you input your card details. Had it mentioned on that page that I was agreeing to be charged for $24.95 I would have stopped right there. I hope my stupid mistake helps someone.

I signed up and went thru the entire sign up process, nowhere did it mention I would be charged for anything. Lo and behold a few days later there is a pending transaction for TU for 24.95. It is now Saturday and I can't call to speak with anyone. I go back to the email and I do not see any info on being billed for services either in big letters or small print.
I click on terms of service which by now everyone knows the majority of people do not read, but all I read is small print on charges but no mention of how much, I read about some free try out periods, I read some of how they can collect information on you and your accounts, including banks. When I was signing up for the services I never clicked on any box that authorized them to charge me or even saw a page requesting me to fill in bank account information or expiration dates or anything so I do not know how they even got hold of my bank information. You expect to be scammed by con artists not credit companies, I guess I learned a big lesson today and it cost me 24.95.

It is my personal belief that this company has a vested interest in making it impossible for you to access YOU OWN credit history, but they routinely give your credit score and history out to companies on a daily basis, with no vetting process whatsoever. And when you call them, you are speaking to people in a different country who are working at whatever the minimum wage is for that country. There is a very high probability of these employees writing down your personal info and taking it home with them. There is not even an email or chat option for customer service, which would be more secure than a phone call from an Joe Schmoe posing as you over open airwaves for anyone to steal your personal info, including the customer service agent who can't even understand the language you are speaking.

When I demanded a refund, the woman told me that TransUnion has a policy against providing refunds, but that they "would do it for me just this one time." She said it would take 3-5 days for the refund to appear on my credit card. I believe this manner of doing business to be very shady and dishonest. Consumers ought to be warned, and someone with policy-making decision rights at TransUnion should be sufficiently incentivized to adopt a more up-front and honest way of monetizing their product.

This is one of the worst companies ever. Don't bother calling or contacting in general. They ask for literally ALL of your info and make it seem as if they're taking your identity themselves, which I wouldn't be surprised if that's really what they do. I've received letters in the mail claiming someone's taken my identity but they do nothing to resolve it. I've spoken to someone about filing a dispute and they never actually submitted it. Their website is trash, and looks like a scam itself. This is almost one of those situations that are uncontrollable because what can you do? This is your CREDIT, one of the most important things in life but they do anything to sabotage it for money! I do not recommend sharing your credit card info or security number with whoever is on the other end of that phone or email. Consider yourself warned.

After being transferred 4 times, and having to repeat the same information 4 times I was finally told that the only way to have this resolved was to MAIL a copy of my social security card to TransUnion, then wait 5 days for it to be processed and then another 7 days to be notified again via MAIL that the issue has been resolved. It is completely unsafe to send my social via MAIL as the ONLY way to get this issue resolved. They offered no other solution.

Like several others here, I thought when Transunion asked for my credit card information it was to verify my identity. There is nothing on the page making it clear you are buying a membership. That was bad enough when I got my bank statement and saw the unauthorized charge. I called to ask about it and cancel the membership. When I told the woman what I wanted, she kept trying to tell me how to log onto the site. I know how to log on or else you wouldn't have gotten my credit card information! She was ridiculously pushy and wouldn't discuss cancelling the membership until I finally gave up being nice and got rude with her!
About 1 week prior to this (when I entered my card info for what I thought was verification purposes) I had to call them to file a dispute because their website wasn't working properly. Didn't matter which internet browser I used, it just kept having loading issues and even took me back to the log in page a few times. I was on their site to file a dispute on some items on my credit. After I got them all selected it gave me an error and said disputes couldn't be filed at that time online. So I gave up and called them.
The man with whom I spoke took my information and filed the dispute for me. 2 weeks later my score shows it dropped 87 points!!!! I was looking at 1 of the credit websites and it showed it was because they corrected the items I disputed making them current instead of in collections. I went to their website (I still had the membership I paid for). It didn't show anything changed except my score dropping. So I called them and asked what happened that my score dropped. The man I spoke with said it hadn't dropped and my items were still in dispute for 2 more weeks!!!!
I gave him the Transunion web address I was logged in to and told him that yes it did indeed show my score had dropped with no valid reason! I asked why it dropped like that if the items were still in dispute! I also asked what he showed for my score and he said for $9.95 he would give me access to my score with a membership!!!! What kind of SCAM is this?! I told him I still have a valid membership because of the previous payment 2 weeks prior, but he insisted I give him my credit card number for my score!
The really sad thing about all of this is we the consumers have zero control over Transunion and what they do to us on a credit level!!!! I have been working to clean up my credit for about 1 month and in 1 day they dropped me back down to nothing!!! And claim they didn't do anything and what their website says isn't really their website!!! And if I pay them I can get my real score! Even though I ALREADY PAID THEM ONCE THROUGH THEIR SHADY TACTICS!
Someone please tell me who exactly governs these people! I am completely in shock over what they just did to me and the realization there isn't anyone to stop them from these horrible unscrupulous practices! This has adverse effects on our entire lives!!!! From loans, to insurance, to rental applications, and in some cases employment!! And these people can do whatever they want?! And who looks at Consumer Affairs for information on Transunion before they get screwed by them?! NO ONE!

Since 2013, I have been in a power struggle with Transunion trying to obtain my credit report. I have sent countless written requests, provided numerous copies of 'proof of address,' even spoken with a supervisor during May, 2019, and still have yet to receive a copy of my credit report. For all I know, there may be charges on there that I am unaware of because my identity may have been stolen and those fraudulent charges may only be on my Transunion credit report, but I will never know because Transunion won't send me my report. But I can contact a credit counseling company and pay $15 for the privilege of using a middleman to obtain the report just fine. Transunion has no problem with allowing a middleman to obtain said report. It's just when the request comes from the actual individual whose report it is that it delays, obfuscates and otherwise ignores the request.
Additionally, I have filed complaints with the FTC but it has the effect of going outside and shouting at the sky like a lunatic. Nothing substantive comes from it because the FTC does not notice consumer complaints. What can I do? Continue writing request no. 5,287 since 2013 trying to exercise my right to obtain my credit report as per the law which entitles me to one. So, in other words, continue shouting at the sky like an escaped mental patient.

I went to the TransUnion website to look at my credit report because I had received an email from Credit Karma that TransUnion had info that I needed to look at. In order to do that they required me to fill out personal information first. That included a credit card number and expiration date. Nowhere was there a statement that I could be charged for accessing information pertaining to my credit report. I thought that by filling out the required info I was simply revealing my identity to TransUnion.
I did not get to see my full credit report so I exited the site. In fact, I could not find anything pertaining to the info I had received from Credit Karma. Immediately I received an email stating that my credit card was being charged $24.95 for their services. This would also be a monthly recurring charge. I immediately called TransUnion and asked that this service be discontinued. I asked for a refund of that $24.95 and was told bluntly that TransUnion never gave refunds. They followed up with an email confirming that the service was being cancelled. I contacted my credit card company and put in a complaint about the $24.95 charge and was assured that the charge would be rejected. I hope that is the end of this but it may not be.

I challenged the report with documents right from Texas Attorney General's website and uploaded them to TransUnion showing there was never a missed payment. To this day they have not corrected this and ultimately this has impacted my credit score. I have challenged this multiple times to no avail, TransUnion refuses to correct it. As many others have stated, they misleadingly charged me 25/mo. for "membership". They asked for my credit card number, which I thought was strange, but it is a CREDIT monitoring service after all- so asking for a credit card number isn't that unreasonable. I looked for anything in the body of the page stating that I would be charged, but there was no sign in the body. It turns out it was in the right window (where adds are 100% of the time) and even there it looked like an advertisement to upgrade to paid version, nothing that stated that pressing submit would charge you. I reluctantly submitted to go to "step 2", assuming that I would then be brought to a page with a "cart" or similar if I were being charged, which would summarize my purchase. Instead it just charged my account. The "step 2" doesn't exist in reality. No receipt or confirmation that I paid.
I called immediately and asked them to cancel it. They said absolutely not. That is a scam. They intentionally mislead. I have gotten absolutely no benefit from it. I have no more access to useful information than I had when I just had a basic username/password and hadn't paid. That is incredibly misleading and unethical, ESPECIALLY for a credit monitoring company. AVOID AT ALL COST, I would not do business with a company that appears to be helping you avoid fraud but in reality has it's own fraudulent practices. A good company, with a service worth paying for doesn't need to hide that they are charging you for a service. I have reported this to them, and it is clear that they are aware that it is intentionally misleading, but do not care.
I have included a photo so hopefully you will not fall victim to this also, please be mindful that I have told you where to look, so it may seem obvious to you. But I am telling you, from a psychological standpoint, putting it in "advertising" space with advertising theme makes the unknowing victim easily block that out. I have spoken with many and even had my husband and mom look at the page and asked them if I would get charged from that page. They both said no and said I must have done something on the next page, then when I pointed it out they were like "OH WOW! that's a scam". Do not fall for this scam. They will not reverse it, even if you call within minutes. I can guarantee you will get no benefit from it from a credit monitoring perspective. I use Credit Karma and love it! My vote would be CREDIT KARMA all the way. It is very informative, free and honest. Credit Karma will try to advertise Credit Cards, but it's harmless.

In attempting to dispute with TransUnion, their website for disputes never works, which leaves calling a number that gives someone who can barely speak English. I have also sent in certified mail disputes, and even they take nearly the entire 30 days to clear, when the other two CRAs can clear a dispute usually inside 48 hours and update my credit report. They have a shady sales practice, one of my phone calls offered me a free month with their service, yet it never activated and when I asked, I was told they would never provide such an offer. They asked for my credit card info, which I thought maybe they would charge me under $5 or so like Experian does. Nope. I didn't find out I had paid them $24.99 for a monthly credit monitoring subscription. I had never even clicked to sign up for monitoring service. Equifax wasn't really a problem. Transunion on the other hand is a nightmare to deal with. You call them and ask for a credit score, they tell you have to go online and register on their website. I used my credit card to sign up as there is a charge and it asks for my social insurance number. After getting past this it asks you some security questions. The problem is one of the questions asks which banking institution I have a loan with, and looking at the answers I never even heard of these banks before.
I call the support line and they tell me I have to get a credit report which takes a month and the 2 ways to do it is send in a fax or mail in writing to some place on Harvester Road. The person on the phone said they could only cancel but couldn't refund since they already generated a credit report for me. After going back and forth with him a few times, in disbelief at his unwillingness to refund, (knowing that any decent company would understand an error and refund), I finally asked if there was someone else I could speak to. Then the tone changed and he said I would get a refund in x amount of business days. I will be watching my account to make sure I get refunded. I do not trust them and will never log on again! BEWARE!

I got to TransUnion via a website for annual free credit report. I answered various questions to confirm identity, and then it asked for a credit card. It did NOT present it as being for a charge, it seemed like part of the verification process (just as others have said). I just happened to check my credit card later in the day (unrelated) and was shocked to see a charge for $24.95! I was really confused because I initially didn't even remember giving my credit card information, until I read another review and was reminded of entering it as part of what I thought was the verification process. SUPER SHADY.
Unfortunately, I think most people are scammed before coming to read reviews, because we're led to think it's part of the free annual credit report. Serious shame that a company that's supposed to help you PREVENT FRAUD is totally scamming people. I was able to go on and cancel my MONTHLY subscription that I was automatically signed up for. The charge hasn't even officially posted to my credit card yet, but I put an alert on it, and the minute it does, I will dispute it.

I signed up for a free credit report. Gave all my personal information. They provided everything up to the very last bit of actual information needed to complete my free credit report. I'm committed this far and already put so much information, might as well. I create an account, fill in the information, provide an email address, the usual. It then asks for my credit card. No notice of any charges. No confirmation, checkout, or other information. I figure this is for confirming my account information on registration or expediting credit reports.
I was wrong. They charged $25 to my credit card. No warning. No confirmation. Just like that, charged it immediately. I'm disputing this charge immediately with my bank. I don't trust them at all. If they're this sneaky with the registration, who knows what kind of scummy activity they do with all the personal information I provided them. I am very, very upset at this credit agency. The "free" credit report is free up until the part it gives relevant information, and then it forces you to sign up for their website and stealth-charges your credit card without any notice. Horrible people.

I went on the TransUnion website to find out what my credit score was. On the homepage there was no indication that you had to pay to see your credit score except for very very small print that stated you had to pay $24.95 plus tax. I did not see that since the print was so small. So I thought it was free and continued to create an account. On the create an account page there still was no obvious indication of having to pay except for small print on the side of the screen that, to me, looked like an ad.
They ended up asking for my credit card but I assumed they were doing so to calculate my credit score. I was able to check my credit score but later that night when I checked my email I noticed they sent me information about my order. I was so confused! I don't remember ordering anything. I assumed it was free! In the email it showed they charged my credit card $26.45. I was furious. So the next morning I canceled my "membership" that I apparently signed up for. Hopefully they won't keep charging my credit card. $26 may not seem like a lot but if they do this to everyone they'll be making loads of money off of innocent people.

They sleaze you into having to sign up for 7-day trial, apparently. I don't remember doing that -- that's how subvert it is. Then, there are "0" follow-up emails that tell you that you are a paying, subscribed member. They do send some very basic credit update information, but nothing that could not have been gotten for free. Then, months down the road, you're going over your bank account, and you find out this sleaze has been pulling $19.95/mo out of your account.

My mortgage company recently sold my mortgage to another lender. My credit score was consistently in the mid-700s with 100% on-time payments and all accounts current. When I checked my credit score after the mortgage was transferred, it had dropped by over 50 points and my mortgage account had been marked as Closed. (A Google search indicated that people's scores had dropped 100 points or more when their mortgages were sold or transferred.) I contacted TransUnion and they indicated that this was procedural and that my score would go up after the new company reported on-time payments. What if a credit holder applies for credit and is denied because of this practice? I would like to know why a company can drop a score when a change is made through no fault of the credit holder and have filed a formal complaint against TransUnion with the New York State Attorney General's office.

But then a month later, to my shock...there was ANOTHER charge of $19.95. So, I called TransUnion, spoke to someone. He said there was nothing he could do... I said, "How is it you got my new info..." He said I gave it to them. The scary thing is...I never gave them any info to begin with. I had told him that & then I threaten that I will call my lawyer, the Better Business Bureau, the FBI, & the my bank. He then changed his tune, canceled my supposed subscription & said I should see the refund within 2 - 5 business days. I told him I had better see that refund, or there will be hell to pay!!! I immediately got a email saying my subscription has ended. NOW will keep a sharp eye out for that refund!! Trickery & deceitful. That is what TransUnion is ALL about!!!

Through annualcreditreport.com I requested my three credit reports. This is free once a year. This time I thought I would like to get my TransUnion credit score as well. Inadvertently unknowingly I was signed up for credit monitoring. It was $16.95 monthly. Unfortunately I didn't discover the monthly charges coming out until 5 months down the road. I called. Explained the situation. Requested a refund. They refused. After some insistence they said it was against their policy but they would give me one month refund. I suggested that they split it with me... It was five months I paid for, could they give me 2. They couldn't. Upon further questioning she informed me that I had earned another credit report update.
Since I realized I had paid roughly $85 and I was only being offered one month refunded and I had a product which I had earned online through my monthly payments then I would go online get the updated report and then cancel. Then I was informed that it was too late as it was already canceled. I feel like since I was misled into the credit monitoring I should have received a full refund. Since they were only offering a month refund I feel like I should have gotten something for what I did pay. I should have been informed that I had earned items of value that were waiting online for me to retrieve before she canceled the account. I asked for a supervisor who I actually thought would provide more assistance. Sonia however was less help, talked over me and frequently interrupted. I eventually just hung up a dissatisfied and ripped off customer.

TransUnion gets away with the most illogical credit scoring system and it really needs to be reformed. Just checked credit karma - while my Equifax score remains the same, TransUnion score decreased 17 points because 5 credit balances DECREASED and one very old account was removed. Huh? Only in this country do you get a better credit score when you max out your credit and do not cancel credit accounts. It makes absolute no sense - it is all done by computers not humans and consumers have very little recourse. Time for reform!

Recently, my wife and I applied for a home improvement loan for a new fence in our backyard. After supplying the bank, Enerbank USA, with our information, they ran a credit check on both of us. Her credit was excellent but mine showed a score of 686 from TransUnion. I checked my credit score through Credit Karma and TransUnion showed my score as 770 and excellent along with an excellent rating from Equifax. I asked the rep from Enerbank U.S.A why TransUnion showed a lower score to the bank and a higher score to Credit Karma and the rep did not know why. I contacted TransUnion and was connected to this guy in a foreign country who could barely speak English. I could barely understand him and I'm sure he could barely understand me. He was obviously reading from a pre-printed script.
The reason for my low score, apparently, was that my adult son had a student loan through AES/SunTrust which I co-signed for many years ago. My son filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy earlier this year. Any and all loans that he had taken out with me as the co-signer were part of the filing. That took me out of the loop and all the other loans were removed from my credit report except this one. Either AES/SunTrust failed to notify TransUnion about the bankruptcy filed by my son or TransUnion just didn't bother to remove it from my credit report. Either way, I now can't get a $3,000 home improvement loan because of this mark on my credit. They claimed that I would receive a reply within 5 to 7 days. It is now 8 days and so far nothing. I am livid the way I am being treated by TransUnion. The next step will be contacting my attorney and let them deal with him.

I searched online for TransUnion free credit report. I was directed to a website where I entered information and had to enter a credit card for identification. I was not aware that this website was actually for credit monitoring with a charge of $19.95 per month. After I reviewed my "free" credit report, I checked my e-mail and found that I had received an e-mail with an order number and indication that I would be charged $19.95 per month. I contacted TransUnion and spoke with someone whose primary language was not English and was told that this e-mail was simply an offer to sign up for credit monitoring, that I had not been charged.
I checked my credit card website and found that I was indeed charged. I went on-line to TransUnion and cancelled the monitoring service and it indicated that I would still have use of the service until the end of the month. I again called TransUnion and spoke with an arrogant young man who again English was not the primary language. He was very nasty and told me that I did sign up for the monitoring and that they would not credit me. He refused to let me talk to a supervisor or manager despite numerous requests from me. He finally agreed to refund the $19.95 but assured me that this was a one-time occurrence and that in the future I would have to pay it. Needless to say, this has left me very dissatisfied with TransUnion.
