I have sent police reports and proof that things on my credit report do not belong to me. Under the law if I send the legal documents and ask them to block this fraud from my file they have to. I have been calling them every day and they are rude and telling me they are not removing the fraud public records and accounts on my file, it's under investigation. On the emails Equifax sends me page 24 of 28 paragraphs 5 clearly states the law and this is right from Equifax. These laws were passed by congress.

Equifax is one of the worst companies I have had the displeasure of working with. Not only can I not access my account, I cannot lift a credit freeze via the "automated" online system and I cannot get a representative to lift the freeze. Awful, awful, awful. The words "completely inept" come to mind. How can we, in 2015 mind you, expect people to perform actions on their credit file with the USPS? Really? Not to mention that these people have access to my most sensitive information. I'm supposed to tell my creditor that I need 7-10 days to lift the freeze... right. Avoid whenever possible, unfortunately I don't think there are going to be any changes soon. "My credit" means I should have access to it when I want and I should have access to the tools available to me as a consumer. 121 reviews and all of them 1 star? What does it take??

I have recently had the "joy" of dealing with Equifax. I logged into my bank account one day and noticed a $20 charge to my account for Equifax. I had never heard of the company before. After looking them up on Google I was certain. I tried to find a contact number for their customer service and was unsuccessful. The menu said to create or log into an account to get their customer service number but provided an email. I, slightly annoyed, sent an email explaining my situation.

After almost a week, I received a very generic email stating that I would need to give them my log in information to look up my account. Responding to their email, I explained (again) that I do not have an account and received an email similar to their reply before. After several emails back and forth, I finally got a customer service phone number. I called the number and was connected to a man I could barely understand. He must have been from India! After explaining my situation several times he finally explained that he would put me on hold and transfer me to the billing department to "investigate" the charge and he hung up on me. I tried calling back immediately and have been unsuccessful getting through since. Horrible company.

I ordered a credit report for my wife. Thought we would do it online and pay for it online. We pay for it and it asks us to verify our information. One question we understood, the others made absolutely no sense. We were told to call in. I called in, they asked for our credit card, I gave it to them... You should be able to trust these guys right? My card was billed 3 times. I called back, "we don't have your money. It will be returned to your account." This was on the 1st of September 2015. It is now the 5th, still no money and they are closed all weekend and the holiday. They are con artists. And when you do call in it is obvious that English is the second language and the sound system is terrible. They say it is my phone not theirs. Why are we subjected to these clowns who obviously are questionable themselves. We need this system for credit. It is absolutely deplorable.

A freeze was inadvertently placed on my husband's credit with Equifax. It has been a nightmare trying to get it lifted. There is no way to call or email this company. EVERYTHING must be done by mail. It is ridiculous in this day and age. Do NOT use this company if you have any choice, and do not ever place a freeze on your credit with Equifax if you ever want to have it lifted again.

Signed in for a new account for the amount of $4.99 monthly. Following month they deducted $19.99. Called to dispute charge and to cancel membership. They canceled my membership but they didn't refund my $19.99 or my $15 overcharged at least. Don't do Equifax. Do EXPERIAN.... much better. Equifax report is hard to understand, they don't provide details like EXPERIAN does. "Monthly fee" It's not 4.99, it's $19.99. EXPERIAN IT'S $6.99 instead. Also, Experian customer service is much easier to contact if needed. Not like 15 minutes to get a live person at the phone like Equifax. And for some reason, I have the feeling that Equifax customer service is not locate in USA (talked to 2 agents and it was a bit hard to understand) but overseas... So you know what to expect.... not a great customer service.

I was requested to obtain a credit report, so I could apply for an apartment. I was told I had to obtain it from Equifax. I went through the online request, and was faced with several questions that were inaccurate and wrong and had to click none of the above, for most of the questions. I moved forward, and was told I had to call a 1800 number and that my account was not processed. (I.E. no transaction). I called and the woman on the phone said that I did not have the correct answers that match her account, and to call back.

I later went back online, went through the same process, and once again was rejected and had to speak to an individual. This time, the individual granted me access, and convinced me to opt for their monthly fee for $16.95 as it is cheaper than the one time $23.95 fee. I agreed. It turns out that Equifax billed me $23.95 3 times, as well as the $16.95 fee. Therefore, it has now cost me $88.80 so far to obtain this report. I called my bank to tell them my account has been accessed 4x in a row by the same company, and that it is not accurate, and bank won't do anything, instead they tell me I need to call Equifax!! This is absolutely horrible. What kind of company does this? I better receive my money back tomorrow!!!

I put in a dispute with all 3 credit bureaus 7/10, regarding BANGOR FEDERAL CREDIT UNION for auto loan that is my husband’s and not joint. 2 have corrected their error, but now I see that Equifax hasn't corrected it and they have reported that I have a thin file or never had credit so they will NOT report a score to Credit Karma. I have called and reported this gross error on someone's part.

I have 8 open credit cards, 2 of which are paid off but still open among these: Bangor Federal Cr. Union joint with husband Edward ** with $8300+ balance; I have 2 overdraft accounts with Bangor Savings on our 2 checking accounts, both are open and one has a balance of $370; I have a Sam's Credit card with a $43 balance; Seventh Avenue (opened 2 months ago) balance $170; a car lease with Toyota with a balance of $4000+.

I have always gotten my credit score until the last 2 months. How can Equifax report that I have a thin file or never established credit. I am 68 years old and have had many credit cards since the late 60'S. Even though I know I am in good standing with everyone, I want to be able to see my credit score. Also a bankruptcy I had in 2006 should be removed 1/16, that isn’t even listed. I want this corrected because the 2 overdraft accounts says nothing about being a joint account just says “DECEASED,” which neither of us are. I WANT TO BE SURE YOU DON'T HAVE THAT ERROR TOO.

Now Verizon needs to verify my credit with Equifax to set up phone service in my name, and because Equifax has an old phone number on file for me, Verizon can't do what they need to and I have found no way to correct the old number online or via the chat room. Now I am on hold with Equinox to try once again. I wouldn't have thought that anyone was worse than Comcast, but I think I've found it in Equinox.

I am 25 years old and throughout my entire life I have had poor credit even though I have no history. I always attributed this to a lack of history as being turned down for things due to credit, and sometimes while inquiring with Equifax to apply to see my credit out, they would ask me security questions only I would know from my credit report that made no sense to me and could not of been for me (cards in my name, a mortgage, etc). I would then be denied access because I would always put as the answer none of the above. When trying to call them I could never get a person. Finally when I became serious about my credit history I spent a full day on the phone with them and paid their stupid extortion fee for my report, and it was basic and had nothing to do with the security questions that denied me entry into my account.

Fast forward 8 years to 2015, I now have two secure credit cards with perfect payment and an auto loan. I download the mobile app credit karma and it instantly accesses my credit history. Transunion comes up as fair in the upper 600s, and then Equifax comes up at below 600, with something saying I owe $2000 for a utility bill in 2008 at a time when I was nowhere even in the same state as the bill (was in the military and 2000 miles away for a good long while from where this utility bill was for). I requested to dispute this on the app and it took me to the notorious Equifax security questions, which of course having nothing to do with me I got wrong and was denied access. A page then came up saying to fax a copy of my drivers license with my dispute to some 888 number. I cannot lie; I want to kill everyone at Equifax.

Just want to add my review to the many here complaining of Equifax's abysmal service. I tried to register for an account and they didn't have my 3 year old address on their system, despite having other addresses in the same building! I then had to endure a lengthy process with their separate Equifax customer 'support' (ha!) website and upload a copy of my passport and a recent bill. I will add that I don't particularly want to upload a copy of a sensitive document such as my passport to them. Now I'm told the bill is not quite within their 12 week time limit. Well, stuff them! I've had no problem registering with Experian of Noddle, and I'm fed up jumping through hoops for them, just because they can't keep their own electronic systems up to date! My address is on Royal Mail. I'm on the electoral roll at that address. Sort your ** out Equifax. You are hopeless...

I called to dispute a $0 balance on my credit report from 2010. Equifax is the only credit bureau showing this old ridiculous $0 charge. After being jerked around through their automated systems to handle my dispute, finally reached a real person. If there was even a peep in your background the automated system would completely restart whatever it was saying from the very beginning! I had to go stand in my walk in closet so the slightest noise didn't make the automated system start over.

Finally got to a real person after 4 restarts. The "real" person was a guy named John from somewhere incredibly deep inside India! Could not understand a word they said and after asking repeatedly for someone else for 5 minutes, due the accent barrier, finally got someone who spoke passable english! The getting screwed doesn't end there. This new guy who gave a name I couldn't pronounce, if the world's survival depended on it, took me through their verification questions. I answered honestly and completely but at the end I am told I fail the verification!! Are you kidding?! I am then told to mail a copy of my Social Security Card and Driver License by hand mail to an address!

In this day and age there is no way I'm going to mail what essentially amounts to an ID Thief's wet dream through USPS!!! I repeatedly asked if we could start over the verification process or alter answers to get verified, and the answer was no. I hope Equifax one days, sooner than later, is either sued into closure or just closes. They clearly outsource work to poorly trained, poorly qualified and poor communications skills people, have broken policies based on poorly thought out security & last but not least one of the worst automated phone systems I have ever seen. I gave them 1 star but if there was a 0 star option I would have clicked it so hard I would have shattered my mouse!

It's quite disturbing to read how many consumers have to jump through hoops to get Equifax to respond and it seems as though they prefer to assist debt collectors in their lies instead of the consumers in the truth. I have disputed a debt since December of 2014. I myself, jumped through hoops supplying court documents, letters, descriptive details of how what's being reported is inaccurate.

I've filed complaints with FTC, FCNB and the BBB and the Governor’s office of consumer complaints in GA. STILL Equifax is the ONLY credit reporting agency to side with and assist the debt collector. They continue to say "they have verified the information" when I have the original contracts. The payments and court documents that say differently. BY law, I reached out to the debt collector to ask them to provide ME with validating proof that I am the debt owner and they ignored ME, so how could Equifax get validation to something I supposedly own and I can't?

After showing TransUnion and Experian that the debt collector is unwilling to assist and even ignored the Governor’s request to provide me with proof-- the debt collector ignored them too! TransUnion and Experian immediately removed the negative debts. I have shown Equifax that they have different information reported to them then TransUnion and Experian have by this same debt collector and that wasn't even enough So Equifax Now says they can't remove it only the debt collector can. They have made it clear that they are assisting the debt collector in their lies instead of lawfully reporting the truth which is what the credit reporting agencies are legally supposed to do. I have searched many ways to fight against this injustice and I keep going round in circles and filed complaints with every suggested agency and this is why Equifax carries on because if they are lucky all they get is a slap on the wrist.

First they merged me with another individual because we had a similar first name and our SSN's were one digit off. This is not enough to merge two individuals! This ruined my near perfect credit score, which they corrected after I disputed. They then mailed me an updated report. This report showed over 50 inquiries from odd places this year. When I asked what that was, I was told that it was companies that were looking at my credit score to try to sell me things. I said, 'how is this possible without my permission' and was then told I could 'opt out'. My response was that I should have been asked if I wanted to 'opt in' to begin with. This should not be legal!

Asking about home loans/mortgage payments mentioned on my report (don't have ANY) or credit cards from banks I have never even heard of! I pick "none of the above" because that is the correct answer but it won't verify me. Makes me wonder what is on that report and how inaccurate it is. The only way to get my report now is by mail, sending proof of identity. Who wants to send copies of their SS card and driver's license in the mail??? Seems risky to me. Why would a legit credit reporting company make you do this in the first place? If I can get reports from the others online why can't I from Equifax? I had put a freeze on my Equifax account online several months ago for security and on 7-16-15 I tried to order my credit report and score online. It asked for password and I don't remember so I clicked the link to get it emailed to me. It asked me for personal information so I entered it and clicked "send." A message popped up saying to call 1-866-640-2273 for assistance. I called and a very heavy Indian accented man answered. I was very suspicious as I know a lot of scams are based out of India. He was asking me my social security #, date of birth and address, and credit information. While he did this he stopped talking to me and he started talking another language to another person.

I told him that made me very nervous and could I talk to a supervisor. He told me he had to verify more information before he could do that and his supervisor would ask the same questions. My stomach was in knots as I thought I was being scammed. I hung up and googled Equifax website for numbers to call. I was hoping someone had not made a fake website that looked real. I called 1-866-349-5191 and woman with a heavy Indian accent answered. She verified I did have a credit freeze and the number I called was legitimate but I told her it made me nervous that he was talking in another language to another person while talking to me. She did apologize for that and I asked her if their call center was in India and she said, "It's possible."

I'm very disgusted that Equifax would put a call center in a third world country that has access to all of our personal data. It is also very difficult to get a phone number from their website because they list so many. The other credit agencies have one phone number that you call, then you press the number for the dept. you need. Shame on you Equifax for doing business this way.

I received an email stating one of my Equifax.com products was about to automatically renew and the ONLY way to cancel the product was to call the Customer Service Department, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, at 1-866-243-8181 prior to the end of the annual term to avoid being billed. This is the only way to cancel the product as they state they will not accept any other method. When I called the number I was placed on hold, listening to their recording stating "Stay on the line, someone will be with you shortly."

After 2 hours of hearing the same recording, my phone battery died because they didn't answer. When I called back on a different phone, I pushed the prompt to order a product, thinking that department could assist. That department immediately answered the phone and stated the only way to cancel the product was to talk with the Customer Service department. She transferred me to the Customer Service Department and again, I listened to the same recording, over and over. Amazing, when you want to order a product, they immediately answer and when you want to cancel, they place you on perpetual hold, never answering the phone.

After being transferred and listening to the Equifax recording for over an hour, my other phone battery went dead. Now I am left with a product I don't want and no way to cancel it unless I cancel my credit card to avoid the charge. Equifax.com is a rip-off. Word to the wise, if you order a product through Equifax, use a prepaid credit card with only enough on the card to cover the cost of what you're ordering. This is the only way that your service will be cancelled, after a year, if you want to cancel it as they won't have a valid credit card on file to charge you. So, with all that said, I'm being charged for a service I don't want and there are no avenues to take to cancel the service. Equifax is taking advantage and defrauding their customers by providing only one means of cancelling the service and not responding to that only means of cancellation (answering the phone).

We spent two years rebuilding our credit and brought my score to a 640 with Experian and TransUnion. However, your company Mr. Richard F Smith if you even exist, is reporting a credit card in which I am not an authorized user on and still have yet to remove a debt from the bankruptcy.

In turn Equifax is the only company holding up a 172.500 mortgage over a 300 credit limit card and a false report. I was approved FHA just not VA. How ironic the company that is supposed to assist veterans, hinders their ability to get a home due to a stricter underwriting policy. Even more so that this company (VA) takes such faith in the inaccurate reports of Richard F Smith's company EQUIFAX. So I am challenging you Richard to take this head on. Contact me, I'll show you the letters from credit one stating I am not an authorized user and voice recordings and so on and so forth.

I find it ironic that a company with such responsibility can be so loosely ran and complex in their services as to hinder people's ability to dispute and challenge these false reports. There is so much red tape up. Your email address is inaccessible to the people you supposedly service/defraud. Gladly awaiting your response "Equifax" as I lose my dream home. Without that debt on the report my mortgage would be approved through automatic loan writing programs. NOTE: THE VA DOES NOT LEND, THEY CREATE THE BORROWING POLICY THAT LENDERS USE.

At least 15 yrs I have had no "judgements" against me or "suits" as stated in my report to fidelity bank received from Equifax. I have been a victim of identity theft but I thought that was cleared up so why is Equifax sending this incorrect info to potential creditors? Where is Equifax getting this info? Do the accounts that were obtained by the identity thief that I had debated and charged off go against my credit? It shouldn't. Equifax needs to contact me to get this corrected as I have never been able to talk to anyone at this company. I am not going to stop until Equifax gets it right!!

So while I'm sitting in my bank, the mortgage guy pulls my credit score and to my horror, my score Equifax tells the bank is 49 points lower than the score Equifax is telling me. Of course the bank double-checks with Equifax and confirms the low score.

I didn't get the mortgage. I phoned Equifax and they tell me that the "model" that the banks use is different than what they use to calculate a person's score. Long story short, Equifax' credit score is a fake number that they only use as a ploy to get people to buy their online products. It is of no use whatsoever in the real world. All the verification questions I answered correctly, they claimed we're wrong. And they ask "what past phone numbers you've had?" I've had the same number for more than ten years. I cannot remember old numbers from twenty years ago. And I haven't had a mortgage or car loan in about that long, too. Well, Equifax says I'm wrong. So they won't let me see my report unless I do the whole snail mail ID thing. And because of them, the post office won't let me verify my account, claiming my ID couldn't be verified.

I have had nothing but bad experiences with Equifax my whole life. They always have the wrong info and when you try to correct it, they put the same wrong info back on it. My mother had the same problems, to the point that they were confusing her with someone else who had the same name as her. And they had mixed that woman's info into my mother's account. In November 20, 2014, I printed a copy of my credit report from Equifax after the US Postal Services' system was breached and I was given 1 year of free Equifax monitoring. On reviewing the report I found that what appeared to be another person's entire credit history was listed on my report, social security number, addresses, DOB and all. It listed the other person as 'formerly known as' like I had changed my name and social number. The other credit agencies did not have this information listed.

I called Equifax explaining that have never gone by any other name and was told to file a dispute. I did under the case number **. I had problem indicating all of the items because the other person has several address and creditors. I thought they would see the mistake and remove all of the other person’s information. Some corrections were made around the end of December, however; I repeated received emails that new account changes that were not mine, were being added.

In January I filed additional disputes and made calls to Equifax concerning information that belonged to the other person that was not removed and explained that new information for the person was being added, again stating we were not the same person. Again I was told all I could do was file a dispute. After my second dispute failed to remove all of the other person's information I paid an fee Intelius' of around $29 to get the other lady's phone number. She informed me that my information was also on her credit report and said she would contact Equifax to have the issue corrected.

In January Equifax finally removed the other person's personal information from my account. Again however, a credit account that belongs to her was not removed. Equifax has maintained that one or more creditors reported the bad information. On 3/18/15 I spoke to a supervisor named ** who told me they did not remove the remaining Ally account because Ally did not confirm that it is not my account. Once again I was told I had to file a dispute. ** said all information is entered electronically from the creditors and that no information can be manually keyed. She insisted the error was not on Equifax's side.

What can I do about the illegal release of my personal information? How can I ensure this will not happen again? Equifax is the agency being paid by the USPS to help protect my information, yet despite their claims, it appears they are at least to some degree responsible for this breach.

    1) Proportions of Balances to Credit Limits too high.
    2) Number of accounts with Delinquency.
    3) Proportions to Balances to Credit Limits too high.

    4) Too many inquiries in the past 12 months.

Equifax has, in the past, combined my husband's reports with another man who shares the name in another town. The SS#'s are different, the addresses where we've lived aren't the same, and they even included my husband's sister as his wife at one point, even though she was living in Texas and we've never lived there.

In order to get the report that Cabela's saw, we have to put the "Proportions to Balances to Credit Limits" even HIGHER, as they don't seem to be willing to back up their report by letting the consumer see it.

(For the record, we DID have high balances at one point, but we've been faithfully paying everything down, we AREN'T delinquent on ANY accounts, and most of the inquiries on the account are from MORTGAGE COMPANIES, because we own a house and are constantly barraged by offers to have this one or that one refinance us. We are NOT looking to refinance and would LOVE to block these companies from having access!) Perhaps Equifax should be subjected to their OWN report about what consumers think of THEM!

I recently tried ordering a copy of my credit report and score online. They were unable to pull up my file online and requested me to call so I did. So I was then put through to one of their barely English speaking operators whom yelled at me when I was not able to understand her correctly. This was March 8th 8:45 pm. She went through a process of questions including: my full name, birth date, sin#, address, how long I lived there, phone number, email address, and probably 4-5 more question which I answer all correctly.

Then she proceeded to ask me personal questions which I also answered all correctly including: my grandfather's name, if I had any credit cards, how many, who it was with, what was my credit limit, if I had any other credit cards, if I had any cell phones, how many, who were they with, what was the amount of the last bill (which I had to pull up from my online banking which said was 70$). Then she asked me what year I opened the cell phone account, what was the month (and I replied that I wasn't sure but I knew it was at the end of the year) and she said I would need to be more specific but moved onto next question, if I had any loans.

Already frustrated at her I then asked how many more of theses question do I have to answer correctly! And she said "only one." Then she asked was my Alberta student loan was still open and what was last payment, when was the last payment, what year the loan was opened (which I had to go thru mounts of paper work to find), what month then I replied "I thought you said I only had to answer one last question!" It was obvious that she was making the process as difficult as possible for me because I was getting frustrated over the phone at her and was using her position of power to get back at me or feel a sense of control.

Then she asked the EXACT date and amount of the last payment made to my student loan account. I replied "That was 3 almost 4 years ago AND it was being automatically withdrawn from my bank account monthly!" A question I told her it was impossible to pull up on my online banking and I had never receive any physical letter for who in god's name could actually remember that! Then she replied, "Well I'm sorry but I'm not able to process your request without this information," after telling me that I only need one last correct answer and I had answered many already!!!!!! I was very angry - cussed at her and she hung up the phone.

These are only the question I can remember. I'm sure there were more questions asked that I answered 100 percent correctly. She was being completely unfair. I have plenty enough information and that I should be able to access my own credit report. It was obvious that she was using her position of power against me because I was getting frustrated at her. The extensive process I had already been going through and then her ignorance to my lack of ability to answer some of these questions. I will never contact this company again and am appalled by the unprofessional service they provide!

Now 3 months later they have started charging me again, so I called them and they are refusing to refund the money saying I was to call if I did not want the service when they had actually said to call IF I wanted it again. What a bunch of scam artists!! Now I am getting the run around and they will not do anything about it.

Okay, the first year, Equifax refused to give me my report online. It might have been an error. I did refuse paid Equifax service which may have upset them. Now, it looks like every year I will be refused an online report. Instead, I am directed to mail my request. Use a #10 envelope! Provide identity and address information which must be a limited number "Proper" forms! A lot of people just won't have the "Proper forms" including me! Can everyone come up with their original social security card? Also, if the type on your documentation proof is too small, the documentation should be magnified!

As background, I have an excellent credit history. My history confirms that the Equifax goal is to force all toward their paid service! Important! If anyone is working a class action, I am interested. My situation must provide obvious evidence of Equifax goals! I'm sure Equifax will continue to claim "For your safety and security, we can't provide online reports." Yea, right!

I contacted Equifax and they explained to me that I need to write these companies to place them on their a letter to have them removed. Well I have done that and the ones that place them on my report are telling me "no Equifax is the one that supposed to remove them." They have nothing to do with calling them and telling them to remove them from my credit report.

Again I called Equifax yesterday and the same thing they tell me all the time: "you have to call the creditor that placed it on your report." My chapter 7 bankruptcy was discharged in August of 2014 but yet it's not listed on my Equifax report. Only the derogatory information is and the same items I placed on my bankruptcy is still on my credit report. I am disabled on Social Security disability and I'm trying to get my credit in order so that I can get the credit I need to buy a wheelchair. I don't think it's fair that Equifax keep the hard inquiries on my report when they're not mine. I've been disputing them every single day. I have sent them 3 police reports regarding the issue. Because of the change I informed Equifax and faxed the official council letter to them showing the correction. They changed my credit rating down to 22! Yes you read it right, 22. A loss of 300 plus gone. Every time I ring (the hard to understand call handlers) or Emailed a question, they have said it's my fault for changing the address! My husband's score was close to 700 after we started using Equifax complete family plan. We went to our credit union for a loan and of course they pulled his credit showing an EQUIFAX SCORE OF 633, eventually costing much more in interest.

When I checked into this...Here is the rest of the story: Equifax charges consumers $29.95/month for their complete family plan, with unlimited credit reports etc. They provide you an EQUIFAX CREDIT SCORE, IN THIS CASE CLOSE TO 700. Out the back door, Equifax is selling your credit information to banks, credit unions etc. Only they use a DIFFERENT SCORE!! Don't believe the credit score you are provided by Equifax products as they use a different formula to provide their banking customers with your credit prediction. THIS IS A JOKE!!! Have been working for weeks to get the morons at Equifax to get it fixed. I've had no success. You get the run around and no answers. I can't even get a supervisor on the phone. They said I need to fax my identification (ssn card & DL) and I did that several times, but nothing's changed or updated.

What Equifax is doing should be considered criminal and they should be held accountable for this type of stuff. I received a letter of which I followed up on immediately to find out that Equifax reporting has tagged my account with several erroneous accounts. I had issues in the past with a person a very similar social security number. I checked my scores with Experian and Trans-Union and neither of these credit reporting agencies had this information. My credit score is 797. Because of this wrong information, I was unable to take advantage of the purchase discount. Of course, I used another credit card and no issue.

Since I have gone back to Equifax and most all of the wrong accounts have been corrected, but not all. I am surprised that agency such as Equifax can be so lax in their data gathering. Very very disappointed and as a major credit reporting agency, they should be scrutinized with regarding to their reporting metrics. Again, I pride myself on my good credit, paying my bills on time and being able to take advantage of all the benefits earned from paying my bills and handling my credit properly. I will continue to work to get the remaining issues resolved, but Equifax does not make it easy to contact or speak to a person who will help with these matters. I hope whoever takes the time to read this will do what is necessary to have Equifax be more accountable.

I filed a dispute about the amount owed on a debt that was written off and purchased by company 3rd party collection agency after the collection agency added additional fees which hurt my score. Equifax closed the dispute and dropped my credit score 50 points on December 21, 2014. I called Equifax to ask why they lowered my score when the debt has been on my report for over 6 years and 5 months, and is due to drop off my credit report in 7 months this August of 2015. Equifax told me that the collection agency increased the amount owed and Equifax electronically lowered my score as a result.

I think this was wrong to do since this has been on my report for almost 7 years. I told Equifax I refuse to pay because the amount is incorrect. But since I lost almost everything in a fire back in 2012 and no longer have proof, I cannot dispute the amount owed. But I still think it was wrong for Equifax to lower my score just because the 3rd party collection agency increased the amount owed and I cannot prove it.

I would think that Equifax would take into consideration that the amount owed was recently increased by the 3rd party collection agency and that is proof that this is not the correct amount owed. But Equifax claims that they do not control what goes on with my credit score because it is done electronically. The person that I spoke with at Equifax told me that they do not even have my credit score from one month to the next and they told me they cannot look back and see that my credit score went down in December. She told me that Equifax does not keep my credit score from one month to the next and that they can only see my current credit score. That to me just doesn't seem right.

I asked for a supervisor and she was very hesitant and even dismissive until I had to almost demand to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor told me the same thing and I told him I don't believe him and I gave him the date of December 21, 2014 when Equifax lowered my score, and all of a sudden he told me that he sees where it was lowered on that date but there was nothing he could because it was done electronically. I told him I wanted to file a complaint against Equifax for the way they lowered my credit score and he told me there is nothing he could do to help me with that. He then told me that it will come off my credit in August and my score should go up to reflect that which does not help me now or resolve my dispute with Equifax. Where are the lawyers and why has there not been a Class Action filed against Equifax on behalf of consumers?

I've had a paid account with Equifax since 2010, they work for the creditor, not the consumer. I've had AT&T and Sprint reporting against me for 3 years. I called them over and over, at least they were honest and flat told me they couldn't do anything for me. They control the credit reports/history of millions of Americans, but can't correct a simple mistake, in which I still held the paperwork on the transaction, proving my statements from the past 2 years were true.

It started with Verizon, I've used them from the beginning (this is a real complaint, just happens to involve all 3 major cell phone providers). I asked to have my phones cut off too, because the company I went back to work with, provided cell phones. I was just starting to attempt to rebuild my credit, I kept getting bills for $330+ or -. Well, I didn't think I did owe the money because I asked for them to be turned off. Them NOT being turned off is a whole other story, my company phone and #2 cell phone... had 1 number different. Boss called my old business cell by mistake on and off for months. Finally let it build up to the point he blew up on me, added in my leaving. Back to point, after calling them, I just paid the bill, plus the fees (forget the fact I was with them for over 14 years, and still using their services). They didn't remove it from my credit report, nothing changed, still there now.

So, I'm mad with the big V we can see, I need a cell phone and a Job now. I went to the mall and into Radio Shack, I got a Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile phone, as I took them back to store due to not working in the county or my work area, I'm told the phone companies weren't told about my returns. The phone co filed it against me. I contact Equifax, give all account numbers. Dispute the charge. Phone co drops that case, (credit score doesn't go up, but does come down when...) then hires another collection co to start the whole thing over again the next week. I had 2 co doing this to me for a total of $ 410.00 I believe, I'd rather paid the bill. Each time, I'd call Equifax and go through the whole thing and nothing but, Phone co puts it back on me, score goes down, start over times 2.

I finally Googled, complain against, I think it was Equifax. I called the FCC and FTC I believe that's correct. I called both and mailed in all of the copies and forms etc. to one. Equifax sits back and does nothing but collect their $19.95 each month and I believe they help the credit cos. We have proven that we will pay for a clean and honest credit report, which by the way. They can score me how they want, after losing everything. Over 300k in the 08 housing market. I never filed bankruptcy, I paid everyone back. Most aren't listed on the report they have anyway, and half of the ones that did, belonged to my ex.

Now I go and pull my report a couple weeks ago. There is T-Mobile, (when I moved, the phone wouldn't work at new place, they had the nerve to ask if I'd walked outside and tried? I swear they did.) They are on there and I went to check on a credit card payment that bounced, along with 3 missed payments, I paid my office lady, that and other bills that I found out after she left, weren't Paid. Anyway, Equifax? They don't care, don't attempt to try to help. My question, who put them in charge and why? I have a 6-year-old, can she run your checkbook?

It is up to the person presumably owing to prove they do not owe part or any of the amount. They will post no explanation of why the customer thinks they do not owe the money and the fault posted against the credit rating will remain even though it may not be valid. Example would be work not done or not done right. Over billing, amount paid and lost, etc. Equifax gets away with this and I cannot even find a ruling body that allows this invasion of privacy and fraudulent claims.

Equifax is a large company with plenty of resources to make available agents and/or customer service representatives available for consumers. It is highly unacceptable to engage in a practice of making it very difficult to even find a phone number; then to create unreasonably long phone trees that fail to provide the option of speaking to a representative -- and when you finally find a number to speak with an agent, you are put on hold for 30 minutes or more until you finally hang up. The system is obviously designed to wear the consumer down so Equifax doesn't have to actually deal with the consumers. This should not be tolerated by consumers or our regulatory/government entities.

They want copies of my Dr. license, S.S. card and a utility bill! What a bunch of crap for their error. I have chosen to leave it on there since it's not affecting anything in my file but they should have to prove the info is correct instead of me showing they are wrong. It's sad that they are considered the credit gods and can do whatever they want with our files. Pay your bills and hope for the best is all I can say.

If you have been denied credit you should be able to call 1-800-685-1111 and order a free file by law under the (FCRA) Fair Credit Reporting Act. Equifax said their system is down and mail your info in. A consumer should not have to mail for that report.

I received a letter from a credit card I use very often ($4,000 limit). The letter stated that my credit score dropped by 300+ points (in 30 days, WTF!) and that they could no longer grant me the limit and must decrease my limit to $700. This was a HUGE red flag, as I have never missed a payment on any outstanding debt (mortgage, credit card, NOTHING). When the company said they received the score from Equifax and I should check with them if there is an discrepancy, I did just that. I logged in for my annual free report with no surprises, all looked OK! There were zero negative accounts, collections or public records. So when I called their customer hotline to ask why they would give such a low score based on my current stands, I was directed to voice automated systems that ended with "information not available investigation in process." What? I just saw my report, no issues why can't you give me my score?

I logged on to Credit Karma (which is an amazing site) to check my credit score, no issues. No idea what Equifax is up to, or what idiots they are hiring to monitor data but they really need to get their act together. There is no resolution and I was told it will take up to 30 days or longer to get it resolved and get my credit limit back up - this from my credit card - as Equifax only has robots working for them not actual people. I recently received a letter from a collection agency stating that I owe about $80 for medical services. I sent a dispute letter to the agency because I never received a bill prior to placement. Plus, the BBB gave the collection agency an F rating and is suggesting that customers ask for detailed bills before paying this agency any money. Moreover, because they are a 3rd party collector, and they most likely report to credit agencies, I thought I would be safe and dispute the charge with all three credit bureaus: Equifax, Transunion, and Experian.

The process was fairly easy with Transunion and Experian. But when I attempted to see if the account was reporting on my Equifax report, the company required a confirmation code. To have a confirmation code, I would already need to be in possession of my credit bureau or would need to pay for a copy. This policy seems ludicrous, because the process should be as simple as it is with the other two credit reporting agencies. Equifax should really allow a customer to dispute an item without a confirmation number, especially if the customer is fairly certain that he or she has an item to dispute on their credit report. So I took some time and reported Equifax to the BBB, the Attorney General, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. In my experience, the latter is the most effective source to complain to, but it is always good for the other offices to have complaints on file. I'd suggest that you file reports as well if you are experiencing a similar problem with Equifax. www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/, **

I needed to obtain my credit score yesterday and was redirected by my credit card that to Equifax. Equifax deceptively advertises that each individual could get a free report once a year. But when you start the application process online, they do not tell you that you would not get your score, which is what everyone really needs. So, I went through all of their steps just to be told that I need to pay $7.95 to get my score. This is deceptive advertising, I thought, but anyway I needed the score so I decided I will pay. I put my debit card details twice but was told in a website message that the card could not get through. So, I tried a different card.

The third card went through only to take me to a new page saying that my score is not available online and that I should send all of my information by mail. If I knew this from the beginning I would have never paid for this. I needed my score yesterday and once again the company lied and took money for a service that they did not provide as advertised "online credit score". But this only gets better... A few hours after, I realized that I was charged 3 times!!! All three times the transaction went through. I tried calling two different numbers for Equifax but to no avail. It is all an automated system. You cannot get to a live person. And I am sure that this is done on purpose.

They just take your money, in addition to make money from your own credit history. I am disputing these charges with my debit and credit card companies right now and am looking for other ways to get this complaint circulated. I am researching other websites, blogs, media where I could send this summary of a nightmare experience through. I hope that no one else would ever have to go through this experience again! This was the most frustrating experience I have had with a business for many years. And to just think that Equifax is "the name" in credit reporting! Would never trust this company again and want other people to know how they operate!

I tried their free trial. When I started my credit score was in the 600's. After starting to pay for their protection it started dropping. When I inquired why, I was given a reason followed their advise and doubled checked with my bank which was the problem the first time and of course they said what Equifax said wasn't true. After the dispute came back my score dropped again then it was because of the inquiries I had on there this time and I asked how since they were there before and my score is going up with the other two and dropping with you. I disputed them like they said with them. Guess what, my score went down only with them again and I never got any responses to my disputes for the inquiries I did.

Then next month it was because my other bank wasn't reporting my car loan every month so I disputed and checked again the bank. Again they reported it and it raised my credit score three points after it fell fifty according to their site. Amazing part is I paid more on my car loan than required. Paid both my credit cards early and monthly bills even rent. Had 1 unauthorized inquiry which would be a waste to dispute with them and my girlfriend who was on my plan who didn't pay the bill went from 500's to over 700 with just barely paying minimum on her 1 credit card.

The problem is obvious to anyone with 3 brain cells. Why would I send all that information through the mail? It seems much safer that when you get directed to the Equifax website, they have the means in place to protect your security. It is also funny that if you want to PAY for a credit report on the Equifax website, all of the sudden, their system is total secure and can be obtained online. I don't feel that the intent of the law was for this type of practice and the consumer should have the choice of obtaining their free annual credit report online or by mail.

Also, while on the online annual credit report.com site, why does it asks security questions about an address, credit cards, or loans pertaining to a ex marriage after 10 years of divorce. You find that you are guessing at answers about someone not seen in over 10 years trying to get your own report, and not another person's report?! They are listing my previous addresses as ones of ex-spouses that I have never lived at in my life! However, Equifax refused to delete them, they only updated them to indicate that they were dismissed/vacated or satisfied. After several letters to contest and a letter indicating I would sue them, they finally removed them from my credit report.

Now I noticed that since then, my score keeps dropping. My other two scores are within a 10 point range, but Equifax is reporting a 50+ difference. I get fico alert and one of the alerts I received was that my score dropped 3 points for me PAYING DOWN a credit card bill that was over the limit. I received another alert a couple of days ago indicating my score dropped 28 points for 1 inquiry! I contacted them and once again, I threatened to sue them for incorrectly reporting my credit and lo and behold, my credit score jumped up 28 points. I am tired of dealing with them, as they only seem to "do the right thing" when I threaten to sue them.

The best thing you can do if you contested an item on your credit report that is incorrect is to send them a letter known as "method of Verification" in the body of the letter. Let them know that they will be sued for willful non-compliance with the FCRA. I also informed them that I would sue them for false reporting. It seems that they will only respond to threats. However, I do not intend to have to spend a lifetime of threatening to sue them just so they can govern themselves correctly.

Then when you try to correct it online, they want tons of documents to prove you are correct. I am tired of wasting time and money sending in all the info. If my state accepts my driver's license as prove of my age, so should they. My husband's birth date has never changed and it was listed correctly in their previous reports. They got it wrong. Why should I have to correct their mistake. Hire more competent people.

Secondly, I am trying to purchase a credit report because they told me I am not entitled to a free one, when I am. So I decided to just buy the thing. Now it takes forever to reach their site because it often times out (It's not my computer because I reach the other credit reporting sites just fine). And when I finally passed the step where they accept my payment, they ask me ridiculous questions about loans I had ten or more years ago, and although I remember the basics about the loans, I don't remember details about the exact amount of my payment. I destroy documents more than seven years old unless they are needed like social security card, etc. So it tells me they can't verify my ID so I have to call a telephone number.

I call the number and it's automated and tells me to go to the website. Really?? I can contact them by mail, but it will take 15 or more days for a response. The other two site do not make it this difficult. They have responded to mistakes in my husband's and my reports online without making it a long drawn out process. I am very frustrated with Equifax. Not only have they destroyed my credit due to an error, that they failed to correct year after year, they are preventing me from obtaining a free online credit report. I responded to all their security questions correctly, but they tell me that they can’t match my profile. Funny, somehow Equifax was able to locate me right away and take my cc information. I hung up. Equifax is in violation of the FTC and Consumer Affairs regulations. Now I believe Equifax includes on purpose inaccurate and derogatory information in their files as a way to boost their revenues. They included unfounded charges, that when I called the merchant, they told me they never had a dispute with me. In fact, I was not even a customer of theirs at that point.

Further, the merchant told me that they will contact Equifax, and still Equifax has not fixed the error. I wonder about Equifax and their ethical obligations to the consumers, over whom they have so much control. The BBB should contact the FTC for action against Equifax. There are too many complaints against Equifax - a company that is entrusted with fairness and accuracy. Equifax is like a priest who is a child molester. Do you get the point!

I was denied a PLUS direct student loan for my son and daughter because of this lingering error at Equifax. I called them on the phone, and despite my reporting the reason for why I need the report, "declined a credit" and therefore the report should be free, they requested a $7.00 fee. Equifax needs to be held accountable for its practices. The merchant informed me last year that they communicated and rectified the error with Equifax, but the error is still there. I have been denied a Student loan on behalf of my daughter as a result of an error! This is what Equifax has done to me! I wish the AG and the FTC begin an investigation!! Thank you.

I have experienced the same problem that many others have reported when trying to "verify my identity" in order to view my annual free credit score with Equifax. I was asked which company did I receive my mortgage from in 2009 and how much is my monthly payment on the auto loan that I received in 2010. I do not have, nor have ever had a home mortgage and do not have an auto loan so I answered none of the above for both questions and was subsequently told that I failed to identify myself and was locked out of being able to view my credit score and told that I would have to request my credit score by mail or purchase a look at my score. I immediately thought my identity had been stolen and began to search the internet for steps I should take to have this reported and rectified. Thank God, I came across this site and discovered that it was fraudulent practices by Equifax and not real identity theft. It was obviously a ploy to try to make me panic and PAY for what they rightfully should have supplied me which is a FREE inquiry into my credit score. Absolutely disgustingly dishonest. Something needs to be done to make sure this type of horrible business practice is stopped.

Tried to contact Equifax for my free copy of my credit report as entitled to me by law after being denied a credit line increase. The number provided for me by my credit card company connected me to an automated Equifax service; I followed the prompts and was informed for my request I needed to call a DIFFERENT Equifax number, so I did and was connected with another automated service.

The second automated service forced me through about 7 "hoops" before it got to the part where it asked me if I wanted my credit report and score, which I said "Yes" to. The next recording asked for my credit card number so they could charge me $7.95 for the credit score, which they had failed to mention costs extra. There was no way to cancel or back up, I had to hang up, call back and go through the hoops all over again to get to the right point where I could select only the free portion of the credit report. It then said, "please hold while your call is being transferred. " and then hung up on me!

This whole system is obviously a labyrinth set up to discourage people from obtaining what they are entitled to free by law. The various phone numbers, the various menu selection and the attempt to trick people into purchasing additional items when all they want is what they are entitled to. To top it all off, if you manage to navigate to the end of the maze, they simply hang up on you! This is saving them lots of money they are putting right in their own pockets I am sure, since every credit report they don't have to mail out for free is just more earnings for them. Nice way for them to dodge the law, but who is going to stop them?

I have challenged Equifax to provide proof of the accuracy of items on my credit report with them. By law, they have 30 days to provide actual evidence of any signature cards or documents from items that are reported. They chose to send 1 letter saying they called those creditors and said its valid. What a load, as the other 2 bureaus Transunion and Experian followed the laws and removed all that was reported incorrectly. 92% of the items from Transunion and Experian were removed. As a victim of identity theft, I can say at least 2 of the 3 bureaus respect the law and follow through with it.

Equifax however is all about jacking consumers. Not only did they not provide proof that what they're reporting is REAL, they simply sent a letter saying they called all the creditors and validated with them it's real. THE LAW STATES THEY MUST PROVIDE PROOF WITHIN 30 DAYS WHEN A CONSUMER CHALLENGES THEM TO DO SO, AND IF THEY FAIL TO DO IT, THEY ARE OBLIGATED TO DELETE THINGS THEY CANNOT PROVE. Among other things, I've read several comments below. Many friends have also been victims of being charged monthly after signing up for a credit report trial for 14 days. This includes my brother who was charged 6 months straight with no refund.

Lastly, Equifax has more employees than Transunion and Experian combined. So much so, that even Transunion and Experian combined doesn't meet half of their total workforce. Yet they perform slower and ridiculously ignorant towards consumers in the credit realm. Plain and straight....they're **. When the gov finally decides to come down on them like a ton of bricks...there'll be millions of Americans cheering that on. NEVER SIGN UP WITH THEIR SERVICES, THEY'RE ALL ABOUT STEALING YOUR MONEY AND TRYING TO DUCK THE LAW.

Back in February my credit score went down around 100 points with Equifax. Not with Transunion, not with Experian, but with Equifax. I had not missed a payment. I had not had an account go into collection. I had not filed bankruptcy of course. In fact I hadn't done anything whatsoever to affect my credit score in a negative way. I had been raising my score steadily every month for over a year. My score went down by a a substantial amount right before I got ready to buy a house. I had been preparing for this for 2 years. Then right before I went to get pre-approved they dropped my score out of nowhere. When I investigated why... I saw where it said on the website what was affecting my score positively and negatively.

Under negative it said that "Too many of my accounts had been opened recently." At the time I only had my car loan that I had to get, and 3 revolving accounts of different kinds that I opened up within the last year to help build my credit. There were other accounts on my credit report from the past but not too many. Under Positive Credit Score Factors it said. "You have enough things hurting your score that there is not anything positive affecting your score." What? Before there were several positive factors and several negative factors. One day it just changed my score analysis to that and cleared the rest of the factors and let my score free fall down to 575.

Over the next 2 of 3 months it continued to go down 5 and 10 more points at a time. Which was an even bigger mystery because there has been NOTHING negative affecting my score. It even says on my credit report "3.8 years since last time negative information was reported on one of your credit reports". When I called them to ask what happened they beat around the bush forever and caused me to have to spend a total of 3 and 1/2 hours on the phone with them on several different calls. A few times they ended up saying it was because I had open disputes on my credit report. That wouldn't make your Credit Score drop 100 Points I said. One of them EVEN Agreed with me!! He said he couldn't see any reason why it should have went down that much. I ended up getting the dispute status removed from my report and of course no change.

This has gotten my life turned upside down right now because of some computer glitch seems to me. I can't believe that we let a company like Equifax decide our lives for us because that's what it is. The score this company carries for you can make or break you and no one in their customer service department could possibly care less. Everyone that I have spoken to except 1 guy was terrible. One girl called me sir 3 times per sentence even in a sarcastic kind of way. This company Equifax is wrecking my life right now with their faulty algorithm scoring system. No one at the company will even consider looking at my credit score themselves with the intention of addressing the 100 point decrease. I am livid about this and so far I can't think of a single thing I can do about it. This is not right.

We tried to apply for a farm loan and were told they could only pull my Equifax report and that his does not show any entries for at least 7 years and it does not show a FICO score. We thought there was a problem on the lender's end and tried it at our own bank. We were sitting with the bank manager and she tried to pull the credit record, no entries nor a score there either. We ended up ordering a report and found that all newer entries, as car payments, mortgage, student loan, and credit cards come up in the "dispute" section but not in the actual credit history. This is very damaging for us and attempts to resolve it with Equifax have not lead to any luck. They don't understand what our problem is.

Equifax makes it as difficult as possible to obtain the "free" annual credit report that each of us is entitled to. The security questions are purposely designed to be answered with "none of the above" providing zero proof of your true identity, compared to correctly selecting a company you have actually done business with or an address where you have previously lived. They use this to say they are unable to verify your identity and you must request the report by mail. The request by mail process is a bigger hassle requiring much personal info be sent through the unsecured U.S Mail. Most people just abandon the idea and rely on the other 2 credit bureaus which have hassle free processes. Equifax does everything it can to legally avoid its responsibility under Fair Credit Reporting Laws.

Staying resilient through tough economic times has been a challenge. I lost my full time job and fell behind on my bills. My credit score did drop to poor. However, I acted quickly to consolidated all my loans and signed up for a program called Credit Counselling to help manage my financial situation. Through the help of Credit Counselling and an insane amount of hours working part-time at multiple low paying dead-end jobs, I was able to fulfill my obligations. I successfully paid all my lenders and are currently debt free.

Upon completion of my Credit Counselling program, I was promised that my credit worthiness would be restored. This has not been the case - I received a letter from Credit Counselling saying it would take 12 weeks from the date I had received the congratulations letter before seeing an update to my credit report at Equifax and Trans Union. I am disappointed to say that it has now been almost a year (10 months) since I received this letter. I only recently seen an update from Equifax after many complaints. However, my Trans Union accounts still read derogatory today and my credit score has not improved one bit!

It has taken 6 years for me to pay back all my debt and during that time, I have kept all my accounts up-to-date. In other words, my accounts have not been in a state of flux or derogatory since the inception of the Credit Counselling program 7 years ago. I have made payments on time to each and every account monthly! This means that Trans Union and Equifax did not update my credit report for almost 7 years! I thought there was Fair Credit Reporting Act that protects us against this. They say it should take no more than 45 days! Where are they now and what are they doing to prevent this from happening to people like me?

I have written many letters to Trans Union and Equifax with copies of my statements and I even included letter received from Credit Counselling confirming that I paid. Even Credit Counselling has send them a request to update my report twice! I worked hard and earned this much; I feel like if I don't continue fighting for what is mine, it will remain this way forever. These credit companies are so quick to throw someone under the bus when a mistake that affects them is made; however, they are careless and have no time to reciprocate or to fulfill their own promises and obligations to consumers like me. They aren't accountable for anything!

I would have been in a better financial situation today if I had declared bankruptcy 7 years ago instead. It takes 7 years for it to fall off my record anyway, and I wouldn't have had to work so hard to repay for anything. I would have gone back to school for 4 years and spent all my time there! And I would have a huge amount of savings right now if I did that. They have too much power and it seems no one can tell them what to do. I think I should have free access to my credit information and score. I believe it's unfair that I am required to pay $38.90 to Equifax and another $16.95 to Trans Union on multiple occasions only to log in to a website so that I can review and confirm that the information they are selling about me is true. After much frustrating work, the Equifax customer support told me that it is their policy to report things in a certain way. The way they report certain items are misleading, damaging and inaccurate: Address update to previous address: I moved over a year ago and proved my new address to Equifax. They stated they must update my address to the old one every time a creditor gives them my old address as current.

Foreclosure update error: My property was foreclosed on in 2008. Every time I disputed the dates of the foreclosure, Equifax would update the late payments as currently over 120 days late. I was trying to purchase property in 2011. The report, in Equifax, stated that I was "currently", as of 2011, over 120 days late on my $0 balance mortgage. The bank pulled my loan pre-approval after appraisal and inspection fees were paid because of what Equifax reported. I paid a lawyer and went to my local Senator with no avail. Equifax stated it is their "policy" to update the information as being current whenever it is disputed and that I just should not dispute it if I don't want it to be current (the last currently late would stand). The foreclosure was eventually removed because of another lawsuit, but not before a Federal Tax Lien was made on property I didn't own. The tax lien was removed by the IRS but it still reports in Equifax with incorrect court codes, and I am trying to prove who I am so I can dispute it.

News flash, I own my home and it's paid off and I have no mortgage payment, and the second question is that I have a car loan and gave me choices of the finance company and the amount of loan payment and the payments is in the $600 and above. During the verification process to obtain my online credit report, questions asked by Equifax were entirely improper. These questions insinuated I have a mortgage and lease/loan account on a car. Since I know that I have no credit information on file (or shouldn't), I believe the questions were to compel me to pay for a report immediately in my concern. I am sending a request for my free annual report today as they suggested to ensure they show no open accounts. Experian asked appropriate questions, but still would not allow me to review their records except by mail. I'm also sending them a mailed request. TransUnion allowed review of my record, but showed an inquiry made by an ill-reputed company, NCO Financial Systems on a recent date and I'm sure I did nothing to initiate this inquiry.

I believe it's entirely unethical for Equifax to ask questions causing the anxiety they naturally would. What could be their intention for this other than to create revenue? Why can they get away with this, being the responsible organization they are supposed to be? Now I must 'sit on pins and needles' until I can verify my record with them. Fortunate for me, it's free... this time.

I find it disturbing every time I call Equifax I'm asked for my entire social security number. Every other banking and/or financial institution relies on security questions. I also find it alarming that my SS number is not encrypted and the individual on the other end has all my personal information available. My credit card was charged twice for the service and trying to get it resolved was difficult. I was transferred repeatedly and the lengthy wait time was frustrating. Customer support is not very professional, friendly or helpful. I'm surprised Equifax is not more protective of their customer's private information. I would think twice about using Equifax's service. It has left me with anything but a secure feeling.

I got my final quarterly report today and not to my surprise, my rating went up 11 points with Trans Union, unchanged with Experian and down 9 with Equifax. This isn't the first time I had to take issue with Equifax. The FICO score between Trans Union and Equifax is nearly 40 points in difference. How is this possible? The difference between Trans Union and Experian was 18 points. But 40!?!?!

This company actually has me defaulting on my credit union and defaulting on my Nissan car payments. They said that I have been late with my credit card payments. Absolutely none of which is true. How can they have information completely different from the other two? I mean COMPLETELY different. Somebody needs to do something about these mobsters. Who can we turn to to do something about these guys?

Once again, Equifax has failed to provide a credit report on-line. Last year, the same thing occurred. It even occurred with my wife and her attempt to pull her credit report as well. Gong through (freecreditreport.com), I was able to obtain reports from the other reporting bureaus, but of course not Equifax. When I sent for the report by mail, they found every excuse possible not to send my report. They told me I had already obtained my "Free" report for the year, on-line.

My retort was telling them if that was true, why would I ask for it again? When I demanded proof that I actually received a copy of my report, they finely sent the report... a three month delay. I reported the issue to the government, but of course, no action was ever taken. Apparently, there is no accountability for quality control within the Federal Trade Commission.

After my attempts to "verify" my identity and obtain an Equifax credit report online (through annual credit report.com) went south (Equifax asked me to verify that I "MIGHT have taken out a mortgage in month/year" and then asked me to pick the company the non-existent mortgage was with, and the monthly payment, and I correctly chose "none of the above) annual credit report DID mail me my Equifax report as I requested. The info on it was virtually identical to the info on the other two companies' reports, and did not include any new mortgages/loans that I was unaware of despite the incredibly shady "verification" process having led me to worry that someone had stolen my identity and was taking out mortgages, car loans and school loans in my name. So if you came here to this site after the same thing happened to you - please know that Equifax (in particular) is known for doing this, and until you get your actual report, try not to worry about your credit. It's almost certainly fine.

Equifax told me that I answered the security questions incorrectly (like others have stated, the questions were about loans I "might" have taken from a variety of companies, and when I correctly answered "none of the above," I was told I'd have to send detailed personal info to get my free report). Instead, I called through Annualcreditreport's number and requested the Equifax report that way. We'll see if and when the report arrives. Anyway, today, I received what I imagine will be the first of many spam emails from Equifax.update saying that I could view my credit reports "for free." The link took me to a site where they wanted me to enter all my personal info including my credit card info for my "free" report (it was for a free 7-day trial, after which I think I would be charged around $30 a month). NO WAY. Equifax is terrible.

The vendor rep blames the mess on Freecreditreport.com where we are required to order the reports only from. They even blamed the lack of scores from them when I ordered them from the companies direct. Equifax in addition has a trick VRU that adds a chargeable credit report to the score order with a different VRU voice even though I never asked for it. One rep when asked to pass to a dispute department, passed me to a Trans Union rep.

I have filed complaints with the House Banking and Finance committee, the FTC, the Consumer Financial Protection Board, 3 US congressmen, my state Attorney General, the Attorney generals of Georgia and California where they have corporate offices. When you dial their corporate office numbers, you get India. When I called a number given to me prior when I had this same issue. Their dispute department refused to send me a free report as required or the score, nor credit me for the report that should have been free. This is fraud and they accept and condone it. I then disputed an item on Equifax, a credit card from 2011 for $9000. Equifax removed the item and my score went up 5 (F I V E) points. When this wrong info had been removed from Experian and Transunion, my score went up 75 points!! A few days later, I applied for a credit card at Best Buy... and my credit score went DOWN 5 points on Equifax. So I guess having a credit card debt of $9k is = in the their scoring with a hard pull of a credit report? It MAKES NO SENSE.

Lastly, there is NO place on the Equifax site that allows customers to CANCEL their subscription. Only after 'searching' for 'cancel subscription' did I find a line that said in order to cancel, you need to call them. I called them - and just argued for 10 mins. trying to get them to cancel this account.

I am absolutely disgusted by the bullying of this agency. They are employing scare tactics to get people to pay for their credit reports/scores, even when they are entitled to a free one. As described by 178 other complaints of the 580+ on here, I attempted to get the 3 free annual credit reports from Annualcreditreport.com. I was assisting my niece, who is trying to purchase her first car. I was easily able to access TransUnion, but when I continued through the verification process for Equifax, their verification questions indicated that her file showed a mortgage loan and a car loan. Assuming it could be some kind of trick question we answered, "None of the above" and received the message her identity could not be verified and she would have to mail her request and send personal documentation.

We instantly panicked, assuming fraud and identity theft. But it was too late to call, not that a phone number was provided. I decided to try the direct credit bureau websites. I did TransUnion and Experian w/ no problem, utilizing their free trial products to access reports/scores. Then Equifax... I tried to use their free trial, but when I got to the verification questions, they now had her with an installment loan and employed places she's never worked in professions she'd never done. "None of the above" gave the message to mail in the request or call customer service.

Customer Service verified her identity, but would not honor the free trial to get her Credit Report and Score over the phone. They said they reset her online account and we could access the trial from there, but when we went back online, their website would not offer it anymore, only to pay for the 30-day product. I tried going back to the free Annualcreditreport website, and I got the same questions and direction to send a written request. Equifax is a manipulative predatory agency, and this cannot be legal what they're doing, by misrepresenting consumer credit files. I need to know who to report this to to put a stop to it.

Since retiring, I have never really cared about my credit rating so have never bothered to get a credit report. I have no need for credit. I paid off my last home mortgage before I retired over 22 years ago. I paid cash for my home in Wisconsin and my park model here in Mesa. I have only one credit/debit card through my brokerage account which is paid off automatically each month. Last week, I applied for a Best Buy credit card just to get a 5% discount on a new computer I was thinking of buying. To my utter amazement, I was denied the card because of high debt load and insufficient income to support it. What the heck, I have no debt at all.

I went to the following government recommended site to get the free copy of my reports that I am entitled to receive each year. Here is where the horror story starts. I had no problems with Experian or TransUnion. Nothing bad on their reports which I was able to download immediately. All of the credit bureaus ask you 5 questions about things that are on your credit file as further verification that you are who you say you are. EQUIFAX asked the following: Who is the lender that gave you a home mortgage loan in 2009? What is your monthly mortgage payment? Who is the lender that gave you a car loan in 2011? What is your monthly car payment? After I answer none of the above to all of these questions, the EQUIFAX website then displays a popup that says, "You have failed to properly identify yourself; therefore, we cannot display your credit record and it is being locked to prevent further attempts." You must submit a written request along with a copy of your Social Security card and a copy of your driver's license in order to receive a written copy.

Instant panic. Somebody must have stolen my identity and bought a house and car in my name. What to do? I look for a telephone number to call in hopes of finding a person who can check the records and expedite getting a copy of my report. Impossible! Only automated machines that try to lead me to a live person who will sign me up for EQUIFAX credit protection services. I am not buying that and I am not sending all my identity information through unsecured snail mail. Thank God, I had sense enough to Google EQUIFAX COMPLAINTS. I found this website. There are currently 569 other horror stories like mine. In fact, too many of them are exactly like mine to be a co-incidence.

EQUIFAX is pure evil. They must be exposed for the deceptive and illegal practices that they are indulging in. If you got to this site before you have checked your credit report, I urge you to do it right now. If you then have a horror story to add to the list, please do so. We all have to scream long and loud or these practices will be allowed to continue. I am mad as hell that EQUIFAX is being allowed to blackmail the very people that it is supposed to be protecting. Email your Congressman, Senator, Better Business Bureau, Federal Trade Commission, and call 12 for action. Please get involved. This corruption is hurting all of us.

I still have no idea what is on my credit report. I am waiting to see if they are going to send me a copy which may take a couple of weeks. I am a little less worried that I am the victim of identity theft and more convinced that I am the victim of EQUIFAX internal fraud. You can bet that I am going to be watching my bank account and credit card account very closely to see if I was inadvertently subscribed to any credit monitoring services even though I have never managed to reach a live body by phone. I have already lost $50 that I could have saved on the Best Buy credit card purchase because I didn't get the card. God only knows what it is going to cost me to get rid of all the erroneous credit information that EQUIFAX has dumped on my file. Disgusting.

Experian & Transunion were no problem, but Equifax's "Identity verification" questions were completely unreasonable. In my case, they asked about the monthly payments on a home equity loan that I'd paid off years ago. I guessed at the answer and got it right. In my wife's case, they asked about a student loan that she "may have had" and "may have paid off" in 2004, and wanted to know the lender and the monthly payments. First, my wife and I are both in our 60s and have not had student loans for decades. Second, why on earth are they screening based on 9 year old data, when they have in their data base all our most recent financial data? Of course, they are completely inaccessible by phone unless one has already received their credit report. This is a shameful and moronic business practice, for which they should be punished.

When I answered that none of them applied to me, they said they were unable to verify my identity and asked for me to submit my request in writing. I attempted contacting them by chat, but the respondent was non-responsive... Nothing but automated, pre-programmed responses to questions I never asked. Then I tried by phone, which required you to speak and spell your name, address, etc., and that was a disaster. It took three (3) tries before it finally took my information and I'm still concerned that it will screw something up.

At first I was concerned that there were car loans and mortgages on my report. Then as the process to request my free credit report became more and more challenging (and the options to purchase one became more and more heavily promoted), it became clear they were using the phony questions as a scare tactic to push you toward purchasing immediate access to your report for fear of what happened/could happen in the time it takes to request and receive your report via mail.

Now that I've seen that Equifax doesn't even bother to change the questions, I'm convinced this is an unabashed scam and should be exposed and investigated to ensure this impropriety doesn't continue and that they obey the letter and spirit of the law. It certainly calls into question how they can scam consumers on one hand while being viewed as a reputable company to monitor whether we as consumers are honorable/creditworthy/trustworthy and every other nuance companies derive from our credit reports.

(This is due to an identity theft situation three years ago when TransUnion issued credit to someone with a similar name based on my credit history and showed up as credit on my account.) Experian was now denying all credit stating I had a "credit freeze". All my attempts to get a credit report based on denial of credit were rebuffed.

Through today November 3, Experian insists I have not been denied credit in the last 60 days but they will sell me a report. On two of the denial letters for financing issued to my wife to two separate banks (Chase and Wells Fargo) they developed two distinctly different credit scores on the same day in October proving the methods, calculations and formulae are arbitrary and capricious if not pure fantasy. The only way I could get a credit report was to go to annualcreditreport.com and request through another CRA. Now I start the long letter reporting campaign to get the information corrected. In addition, I was a minor at the time, I was only 17 years old. I never was complaining about this company. I was complaining about the losers who steal your things and then get credit in your name cause they are criminals who should get way heavy sentences the very first time they do such a horrible thing to another person. Equitax is the good guy.

    Original Review: Oct. 17, 2013

When other people get credit in your name, they will sometimes have items sent to a short term address or a PO box. These locations/street addresses will then be listed as where you've lived. The credit card or account will be listed in your list of credit accounts. Anytime you are asked these types of questions and you get something like this, that's not right. It's a red flag you have problems. You need to take time to focus on and handle. I'm talking about doing some digging. Then fixing with the credit reporting agencies. It's not Equifax that's got things wrong. It's your personal information that's been used and reported to them, and until you let them know in writing that they have wrong info, it will continue to be in your file.

FYI, ANYTIME you misplace any of your bank and credit cards, a phone that has any personal info in it, find even the smallest charge/purchase in your bank statement, don't get a monthly statement you've always gotten, Report it to the Company right away but also go online and create a credit alert with Equifax. They then let the other two agencies know and that way you are covered when and if something not your doing pops up. Now, it won't get far unless when you are contacted by phone and okay the purchase. It's a hassle but way less a hassle than all you go through fixing the damage done if you don't!!!!

Don't think your password-protected phones are secure and all your personal stuff, banking, cell acct. are safe that you have in it. It's so not. Bad people who steal people's phones and other stuff spend the rest of their time getting into it. They know how! Even if you are lucky and get it back, the damage has been done already. Now it's just a matter of when it will all start to show itself. My iPhone was stolen twice. Pic below shows condition I got it back. The Thieves found I'd made a police report and since April 2013, any stolen phone reported to carrier as stolen is made USELESS. I love that! They were angry and bashed up my phone. Maybe it was the guy buying stolen property who paid $300 for this phone that worked for a minute only who bashed up my phone. Point is, you have to be hands on. Got to be on the ball all the time when it comes to your finances, your property, your credit file. I personally like this company and have been doing business with them 40 yrs.

Equifax refuses credit report online. Three times, I have tried through AnnualCreditReport.com. The other two agencies will give it. Equifax has asked me phony security questions on three different occasions about six months apart. This is exactly what it says: "Now we just need to make sure that you are really you. These questions are based on information in your file, and only you should know the answers to them." This is fraud! They ask four questions. Always about a mortgage I do not have and a car loan I do not have and the amounts. When I answer none of the above to all four, surprise! They say my answers do not match their records. I have to send them a lot of ID in the mail.

Well, I foolishly complied about 6 months ago with enlarged copies of driver's license, SS card, voter's ID and a bill. About a month later, they sent a letter saying that I would have to send them ID (exactly what it said online and what I had just sent them). I could not believe it. I thought, "How incompetent. Are these people for real?" So I resent the enlarged copies just as they asked and politely explained and asked them to please straighten it out. About 4 weeks later, I received a letter from Equifax stating that they had investigated my dispute and the credit card account that I disputed is definitely mine. Really? I did not dispute anything. Then 3 days later, I received a letter from my favorite credit card company stating that I had disputed the account.

I did not dispute anything. That is a good account. I hoped that I had straightened that out. Equifax is harmful and I don't know if they did it on purpose or what? Today, I got my Trans Union report and the account that Equifax messed with is showing a dispute on it. I don't know if that's bad or what but I am now officially frightened to contact Equifax. I see it as an ominous group of thugs that can harm individuals and we have no recourse. Here are the phony questions they ask. None is pertinent to me.

Equifax has way too much influence over every aspect of a consumer's life especially considering the way the company does business. It is criminal that a company rips off consumers so blatantly and with such disregard for how much their actions cost a consumer through loans and insurance and even getting a job. My auto insurance went up because my address doesn't match the one Equifax has from 3 years ago. I have had the auto insurance for 4 years and they have no problem taking my payments but say they are charging me more because the address Equifax has is 3 years old. What does that have to do with my driving record or anything else?

Equifax reports have incorrect info, wrong accounts, wrong everything and yet the government will not step in and regulate these credit bureaus even though they cost consumers millions of dollars in higher interest rates, higher insurance premiums and even jobs. Credit reports are used to pre-screen job applicants in many states. How ridiculous is it that you can't get a job because of a poor credit score? How are you supposed to turn your credit score around without a job? Your low credit score increases your auto insurance. Why? Because an study done by the insurance companies supposedly links bad credit scores with bad driving (more likely they needed a way to raise rates because many people with) accidents and tickets, got their rates doubled and tripled due to credit scores. No bad driving involved. Some insurance companies do not look at your driving record at all and go completely based on credit score. All of these important things are based on a score from a company that has so many complaints it should be shut down.

The credit bureaus need to be monitored or regulated if they are going to have this much impact on everyone's lives and finances. Write to your government officials!!! Equifax and the others need to answer to somebody for their business practices and the way they can screw up your life without any justification to anyone and with no safeguards or error checking before they do it. They make the mistake, then you spend years cleaning it up and still pay for it for 7 years. How can that be legal?!?!?!?

I am having difficulty understanding the 3 agency reports I bought. Your report stated scores which do not match the reports I obtained directly from the other two agencies. It appears that Equifax is charging me fraudulently. In addition, your data is erroneous and appears to have been manipulated within your organization. Both of the other two agencies report data that is consistent and correct. I see no reason why businesses would report data to the others different from the information reported to you within a time frame bearing no account changes.

Attempts to call you for a review have led in circles without any discussion involving a knowledgeable human. My only contact with a human was with an Indian guy who gave me a disconnected phone number. Your dispute process is slanted towards mitigating issues between consumers and reporting businesses. Unfortunately, my issue is with you and your business practices. There seems to be no avenue of negotiation to resolve my concerns. Does it seem right that a credit reporting agency which can seriously affect lives cannot be trusted? I am looking for redress. You took my money and did not provide the service.

Very same experience with Equifax happened to me 10/5/2013 as is described in complaint given by Metosch of Oxnard, Ca Aug 9, 2013. I went to the online site www.AnnualCreditReport.com and I indicated that I would like a report from Equifax. Equifax questioned me about a nonexistent mortgage and a nonexistent car loan as security questions. Then I submitted my first request for my first free annual credit report from Equifax. The reply from Equifax was that for my own security, I would be required to request the free report by mail rather than online. I also had to send with the request form a copy of my driver's license, w-2 or social security card and a copy my home phone bill or utility bill with my name and address on it. A salesman for a car lot would be able to get my credit report info with a whole lot less trouble than it would take me to get my guaranteed 1 time yearly free credit report from Equifax.

A person is supposed to send all of this very personal info in the mail in the hopes it is not compromised in the course of leaving their hands. Equifax could easily have verified my information to my home address, social# & telephone# by the website input information I gave in the original online request. Equifax apparently does not want to be one of the 3 agencies that actually send out a free report and I agree they should not be allowed to continue in that capacity.

While buying a home I learned there were a dozen or so entries on my EQUIFAX credit report that were not only not mine, but they were defaulted loans and series of judgements against "Angela **". I put a fraud alert on all 3 of the bureaus and begin to go through the process to dispute the charges. Creditors will not issue a fraud pack if the loan the social doesn't match (in other words it's not my social on the loan so they can't give me what I need to remediate against the charges in my name). This is not the error of the creditor, it is the error of EQUIFAX and ONLY EQUIFAX! They have her address as other known addresses of mine.

At some point the other person opened up 4 credit cards, maxed them out and never paid a penny. I think she found this out and benefited from EQUIFAX and their gross negligence to merge our records. This has been costly in terms of higher interest rates and even higher insurance rates due to the other person's criminal behavior. As a consumer I deserve some recourse for the time and money lost. I can't be the only victim of EQUIFAX negligence. There needs to be a process for EQUIFAX to be accountable!!

I checked all three of my credit scores this month and to my surprise 2 of mine was within 2 to 3 points of each other but when I looked Equifax it was 20 points difference. This a big deal! When I complained about the differences they said that they have their own scale that they use, they don't go by the standard that everyone else use. I looked every company is suppose to use the same scale. I would recommend to stay as far away from the people as possible.

I registered through AnnualCreditReport.com for my free reports from all three reporting companies. TransUnion and Experian both provided me with my full reports plus the ability to dispute errors. Equifax, however, gave me a report number but would only let me click on one non-detrimental portion of my report. When I would click on the other sections I received a white screen and then a pop-up saying they could not provide my report electronically and that I needed to send them a copy of my Social Security card, driver's license or passport, any utility bills etc. STOP!!! Isn't this how credit fraud happens?!?!

After getting booted from my report six times, I had to Google their customer service number because it wasn't easily found on their site. I spoke to "Ann," who did not sound like an Ann. When I explained what had happened, she immediately wanted my full Social Security number and to sell me their protection package. WHAT!?! I refused to provide my number but offered the report number generated by their website. Well, wouldn't you know it, but she was able to pull up my report. And then immediately went into the "buy this protection" saga.

I insisted that I did not want this package and that I just wanted my free report that is legally mine. And that the problems with my bank report were things they (Equifax) reported on me years ago!! Monitoring it daily for me would be ridiculous!! After a bunch of delays, she provided me with a "log in" for their site so I could view my report. I kept her on the line until I received her email (which took three times). Mail said to click on link... no link. Went to their site and tried to log in. I could log in, but alas, no report. They wanted me to pay for my free report from them because apparently due to living in WI, I have to pay for it. WHAT!!!! There is something so sketchy and illegal going on. This company should be investigated!!!

I was prompted to get a copy of my report over 6 months ago on Feb. 13th, 2013 and was told I can get all three of my reports through a free trial with Equifax at which time I had to provide a debit or credit card to set up the free trial. Upon getting what I wanted, which was the free reports, I cancelled the service that same day. The card I used to set up the account was my NYS debit card that I receive child support. I went to make a purchase about 4 months ago and to my surprise there was a debit for 17 plus dollars from Equifax. I immediately called the #, spoke to a customer service agent who claims they couldn't verify me and I needed to get a free copy of my report and then call back and I was hung up on.

I have since made several attempts for the account that they are charging me for and keep getting messages to call the same customer service #. I have been calling yet I am being charged every month for the past 6 months for service I have not been using or do I have access to, and as a consumer have been treated unfairly. When I called today I got a customer service rep who refused to put a supervisor on the phone after I asked 5 times and telling her I was going to make this report and being put on hold for 30 min, I finally was put on the phone with a supervisor who assured me account would be cancelled and charges will be reversed.

And all 3 times, after putting in my confirmation number of the account, it told me to wait a moment but disconnected my phone call automatically. I got really upset and went online to read about them. Of course, there were more than enough complaints about them. I went on their website, logged on and got the phone number to cancel the report. It's (866) 243-8181. They make it impossible for you to find this number because many people cannot even log on to their online account. Beware and do not use Equifax. I got through to them by dialing the above number. Make sure you ask for a confirmation for cancellation via email immediately. Good Luck!

On 8/21/13, I attempted to take out a home equity loan. The bank had a merged credit report from the three agencies: 1) Equifax, 2) Experian and 3) Transunion. The report had incorrect information and listed four accounts totaling $300,000 + that were not mine. The accounts were notified and confirmed that the information was incorrect. The three credit agencies were contacted via phone and fax. Information including a copy of my driver's license were faxed to the companies. It was confirmed that Equifax had erred. After waiting a week without response, Equifax was contacted via phone.

Equifax confirmed that the 8/21/13 fax was received but "a copy of my social security card" was also required. That was not what was stated when contacted on 8/21/13. On both the 21st and 28th, I asked to speak to a supervisor, "Karen". Karen would not talk to me and I was informed that they were not required to call or mail me. When I attempt an on-line dispute, the four erroneous accounts that are on my report impede me from registering. I have spent $10.00 to fax documents and informed that another 7-10 days will be required for Equifax to investigate. Where is their culpability in this matter? Who holds them accountable for truth and accuracy? This organization is guilty of negligence and does a poor service to consumers. Yes, I am angry!

My husband and I went to HHGregg in Delaware to purchase some merchandise, and filled out a credit application. However, we were denied the chance for the credit application to go through, due to Equifax's unfair security questions.

This is the third time that Equifax has caused us this type of problem. Here are two other occasions recently: I went online to pull me and my husband's credit reports from the Equifax Annual Credit Report site and was denied our credit reports online due to unfair security questions. I tried to pull these credit reports at our home in Sanford, North Carolina earlier this year. Another incident was recently, I called Verizon to have the phone service turned on in my new home in Delaware, which is my second home. We own two homes: one in Sanford, NC and one in Smyrna, Delaware. Equifax caused my credit application to not go through, due to their unfair security questions.

Here are some of the unfair questions that Equifax is causing the consumer to answer and if answered incorrectly, you will be denied credit:

For HHGregg: My husband was asked if he ever owned a Cadillac car, and if so, what color was it? My husband had to ask me, because he could not remember that he owned a red Cadillac car over 16 years ago. The person at Equifax doesn't want the wife to help her husband answer these questions. My husband is over 67 years old and a Disabled Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt Veteran. He doesn't even remember our home phone number or his own cell phone number most of the time. Alzheimer's disease runs in his family on his father's side, and my husband is getting close to age 70 in about 2 1/2 years. My husband is a Senior Citizen and Military Veteran and does not deserve to be treated like this, nor do I. I am 57 years old and this is very unfair to older people especially. People around this age have memory problems, and cannot remember these things most of the time.

Another question that was asked when I tried to get our online credit reports: "What address did you live at?", and there were two addresses and I have lived at them both. Therefore, I just picked one, and was denied the right to pull the credit reports online, and had to mail in identification and social security cards, etc. The next question was asked of me when I tried to do a credit application for phone service for our new home in Delaware just a week ago: "Do you have an account with Marine Federal Credit Union?" I said yes. "Please pick the amount of money you pay on this account." I told the live person that I was speaking to, that we have two vehicles with MFCU, and each vehicle has a different payment amount. Therefore, I picked one of our accounts within the many price ranges, and my credit application would not go through. I had to leave my home and go to Staples and fax a copy of my drivers license and social security card to Verizon before I could get my home phone service turned on.

My husband and I both carry credit scores of over 700+ and have an excellent credit history for over 32 years. This is very unfair that we have to be subjected to these unfair and outrageous security questions. We were deeply embarrassed today at HHGregg when our credit application was denied, based solely on these unfair security questions.

Equifax is asking stupid security questions, such as:

"What was your first grade teachers name?"
"What color was the car you drove in 1992?" It is now 2013.
"How much is your monthly payment on the account you hold with XYZ company?" Unfair, when you hold more than one account with a company.

"What was your first pet's name?"

Is this the way our Senior Citizens and Military Veterans should be treated after serving this country?

Equifax must be made to do away with these unfair security questions. It not only hurts the consumer, but harms viable businesses from bringing in well-established creditworthy consumers, which in the long run, stands to ruin a business if they cannot provide credit to their customers. This harms our credit rating and shows us to be not creditworthy, when we really are. We just purchased a $300,000 home and have always paid our bills on time every month for over 32 years.

Equifax or no other credit bureau has the right to be asking consumers these security questions in the first place. Their job is to provide a credit history on a consumer, not put them through the third degree. If they want to ask security questions, then all consumers should be given a fair opportunity to pick 3 security questions, and fair questions, such as, the last four numbers of their social security number, mother's maiden name, their date of birth, and things that only they would know, not asking questions about how much money they pay on a particular account, when they may have more than one.

Please protect the senior citizens, veterans, and all other consumers from these unfair tactics and put a stop to Equifax and other credit bureaus from asking these insensible questions. Their job is to provide to a creditor a person's credit history, and that is all. Whomever started this nonsense should be fired, because they clearly are not thinking about or considering senior people or military people that have become veterans from past wars. A lot of these people come back with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which is what my husband suffers from after 3 tours of duty in Vietnam. This credit denial today based on not being able to remember an old car's color for over 13 years ago really upset him terribly, and he literally got into a heated argument with the manager at the store.

Tell Equifax NO MORE SECURITY QUESTIONS, EITHER PROVIDE A CONSUMER'S CREDIT HISTORY AS REQUESTED, OR CLOSE THEIR DOORS. THIS IS UNFAIR BUSINESS PRACTICES AND IT IS HARMING THE CONSUMER DEEPLY.
