I have had this insurance since my dog was a pup. I wanted to try the virtual vet (he kept licking his paw-what should I put on it?) but the site said my account was pending cancellation. So I called and was told that I had called and cancelled my policy-I had not. I asked to have it reinstated but was told they can't do that. Hopefully I have better luck with Spot!

Signed up for 2 pets between May-Sep 2024. Currently $114/month ($1368 paid in premiums in past year). In July 2025 I had two new pet issues, ear infection and tail mass visits to cancer vet spec. Over $1,000 in vet bills filed in November 2025 online, coverage $0, explanation: did not file on time. "Anything that involves Dr opinion not covered". Every email from them states "You are committing fraud and a felony if your claim is not accurate". They want complete medical records with each claim filed. I couldn't think of a worse investment for my pets' health. Larry **, Indianapolis, IN

After being a client for 7 yrs with 4 pet insurance policies, Healthy Paws denied my claim submission due to being 2 days late in uploading the documents. I understand the 90 day policy but hoped being a client who always paid on time would have earned us a little grace. They offer none. Extremely disappointed that in these difficult economic times no consideration is taken whatsoever. Approving the claim would have resulted in a reimbursement of around $135. Nothing to a large insurance company but everything to a person that rescues, TNR's, feeds dumped & feral animals and pays for medical care or euthanasia out of their own pocket. Shame on me for thinking they have the best interest of my pets at heart.

I didn't intend to write a review, but can't help wading in. Like so many folks here my premiums recently jumped over 100% for my 12 yo bestie. I was a little surprised by the magnitude of the hike but I also appreciate costs are going up across the board. That said in the twelve years my boy has been insured with HealthyPaws he has had back surgery, two leg surgeries (TPLO), treatment for a heart murmur, CHF, and most recently arterial fibrillation. In EVERY case HealthyPaws paid the vast majority of the expense with my reimbursement from them usually arriving well before my credit card statement. My boy has had more than his share of issues but I have great peace of mind knowing his care hasn't ever had to be compromised for cost reasons. I would definitely recommend Healthypaws to anyone and will be a customer as long as I have pets.

I have been insured since 2014. When my dog turned 12 my rate went up $30. After the Chubb Corporate takeover and my boy turned 13 they raised my premium from $200 to $600. They stated it was because rising costs however none of my dogs services increased more than $6.00 and I live in one of the most expensive place in the country.
Chubb bought Healthy Paws because they were a foundation and dedicated to help animals and kept their premiums low and Chubbs saw an opportunity to make ton of money by massively rates increases, dissolving their foundation status and targeting senior pets for policy termination by raising rates to over $1000 a month. They tried to do that to me but they didn't meet the legal time requirement for the $1200.00 rate increase so I am at $600 a month and next year I am sure it will be the $1200 because they tried to do it this year. The worst part is when a dog reaches my dog's age many other insurance companies will not even insure them, and if they do they will not cover preexisting condition which almost all dogs will have some issue by 13. It is clear by the massive rate increases they don’t care if beloved pets die because they are in it for the money.

I have been with Healthy Paws for 9 years, no claims and all of the sudden they raise the premium to more than double. From $65 to $150. Their justification was that more pet owners file claims in CA right now. Wouldn't backdate my cancellation, even tho I caught it within a couple days of them hiking my rate. Super annoying to be forced to change providers at my dog's age.

Raised my insurance from $ 68.00 per month to $144.00, reduced their share of the cost from 70% to 50%, and increased the deductible from $ 250.00 to $ 1,000.00. I've been with them for 10 years. It's almost as if they are trying to get rid of me by pricing me out.

They do not advertise that the rate increases are huge! Our puppy started at around 60$ a month. It slowly increased to 120$ which is a lot. Today they hit us with the new price of 380! A month! What? She has never had a claim. She is only 11 years old. What’s next? 600$ a 1000$. They will not lock in a rate so can raise any time. It’s not ethical.

I used to love Healthy Paws. They were always quick to process my claims. The turnaround time was incredible. Lately, however, they have dropped the ball tremendously. I have seven claims in for my dog’s medications and have been waiting over two months for them to finish processing then and reimburse me. These are not new medications. These are medications that my dog has been on for over a year. I have called multiple times as well as sent emails. The response I get is they have so many claims they need to process. Last response I got was that a supervisor would be in touch with me. That was over a week ago. I’m still waiting.

I had Healthy paws over approx 4 to 5 yrs and it was pure you know what to get them to pay on a claim even the smallest amounts as well as I had autopsy and only had one claim in 5 yrs and started out at paying 45 a month to a little under 5 yrs they increased me to almost 150 a month and their reason was because so many members were filing so many claims and to make up for all of those members they make other members pay more monthly premiums including me who only used the policy once and had to fight hell to get them to pay for something they should have covered and that a went toward my deductible so they never even had to pay but but 6 dollars on the claim after my deductible yet I'm Being punished for strangers using their policies too much and that was from one of their reps that said that. That's NOT FAIR. How can you punish someone else for someone they don't even know using their policy. Isn't that why we pay a premium??
I will never use them again. And for the ones leaving good reviews it's bcuz they're the ones that the company pays what their suppose w/ out having to fight them to pay and when the company doesn't wanna spend any more money on claims they make their customers (including those who never file claims) pay higher premiums. Whoever thought that was right to make strangers pay higher premiums bcuz people are actually using a plan that they pay for?? This company is a scam (in my opinion) and in my opinion) they're basically making their members pay the claims by charging them higher premiums.

What a joke of a company. They sit there and bring you along and then when you do actually need to use them for the prime coverage you just paid 130 a month for, when the use comes it takes 3/4 months to get anything back, and they just end up stalling on the claim to make you spend all the money they would have originally given you. It's a scam. All you did was pay yourself back. Don't fall for this crap, they are going to get you fine with the coverage and wait 5 years and then jump the price extremely high. Do yourself a favor and find coverage that's less than 50 bucks a month to make it more manageable and then save 50 a month yourself till you get like 500 and then it should be fine.

I have had Healthy Paws for my terrier mix for 10 years. I adopted her in 2015 and she is about 11 years old. There have been minimal increases over the past 9 years. I was sent an email last week explaining that my monthly premium was going from $88.74 to $224.47. I emailed back in hopes that this was an error and the response was ~ "These changes were made because, as pets age, claim costs increase. To keep premiums manageable and coverage sustainable for all pet parents with older pets, these updates apply to all policies for pets aged 7 and above." My dog has needed an allergy shot maybe 3 times a year and many of the 10 years my deductible was rarely met.
I have already paid way more for her insurance in the past 10 years than I have for any service she has needed at the vet. Very disappointed in Healthy Paws after all these years. Please do your research. Like I have read from others I will start setting money aside monthly in the case of an expense needed at the Vet. My insurance has been cancelled.

We have had Healthy Paws pet insurance for our last two dogs, Winnie and now Grace. Particularly in the roughest moments, we have been very thankful we chose Healthy Paws for our pet insurance needs. Having our claims processed fairly and efficiently has been so helpful as we have navigated tough health situations with both dogs. We are very thankful we have found a pet insurance we can count on with no lifetime limits and transparent and consistent claims processing. This ensures we don't have to choose between our pet and our financial security if tough health situations happen.

I highly recommend insuring your pet with Healthy Paws pet insurance. I have had this insurance since my dog was a puppy, and I didn’t need to use it until recently. A couple of months ago, my dog was diagnosed with Thyroid cancer. Healthy Paws has really helped us a lot. They have covered all her diagnostics, surgery, and chemo treatments. This has saved us over $14,000 so far. The company has been great to deal with. The way it works is you pay upfront at the vet and then send in the bill to Healthy Paws and they reimburse you for a percentage of the cost based on which plan you have. We were able to choose our vets and get treatment immediately without needing to wait for any preapprovals or anything.

I have fortunately had Healthy Paws insurance on my 2 Shih Tzus since they were 3months old, which is over 10 years. Without the insurance it would have been difficult to pay for both of their multiple surgeries and medications. Healthy Paws have been a pleasure to work with. They are extremely quick on the reimbursement on claims. I would, and have, highly recommend.

I’ve had Healthy Paws for both my dogs. I’ve convinced many friends to buy this specific insurance because of how responsive they have been. The fact that there is no cap on policies is the first no brainer. They have never asked a single question about any claims and pay SO fast and with direct deposit to my bank. My dog was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor and the entire process, from first emergency visit to neurologist, to MRI and radiation has come to around $30k. If I didn't have this insurance, we never could have saved her and now we have a minimum of 2 years more with her. There’s no comfort like being given a bill at vet office and KNOWING I can say yes to anything she needs because of this company. Not to mention they always reach out to me when something big happens. My first dog was hit by a car and I they sent me a hand written condolences card. And with the dog, they emailed to check on her.

Each year, my premium has increased exponentially. However, when I’ve submitted claims, they’ve refused to cover anything substantial. I’ve ended up paying far more out of pocket than I ever saved. What’s the point of insurance if it skyrockets in price and provides no real coverage?

I will start with the fact that this company has always shown up and delivered when I most needed. I joined in 2019 with our first dog, and added our second dog in 2020 (my original premium was $100 for both dogs). However, in recent years they have been increasing premiums above and beyond any metrics that relate to veterinarian cost (several lawsuits). I went from a 2023 policy of $123 for my 2 pets to a recent increase to $210, a 70% increase in 2 years (this is after I increased my deductible to lower my premium).
My case is light compared to some of the other cases out there with policies in the $300-$500 range. This is even more of an issue if you insure your pet when they are young and healthy and something unfortunate happens along the way (my case), because if you were to switch providers, no insurance will cover the pre-existing conditions. Between 2019 & 2023 I would have 100% recommend them (I did, a lot). Today I would warn you.

Good pet insurance if your pet is young but as soon as they become older your monthly premium is going to triple in costs (you know when it would be very difficult to get another pet insurance due to age and preexisting conditions). Rather predatory.

This is the third time our dog Jasper has had a major health issue that required surgery. Jasper suffered a traumatic eye injury when she went to sniff peanut butter from a live rat trap. The trap sprung and hit her in her left eye. She sustained major damage to her eye and required surgery to save it. Eye surgery is very expensive but since we had Healthy Paws insurance, the decision was easy. I am happy to say that Jasper's eye was saved and she does have some vision back in her eye. We can't thank Healthy Paws enough for their outstanding insurance and absolute ease in submitting claims.

I’ve had Healthy Paws Pet Insurance since my dog Rain was just 3 months old, and they’ve consistently been an incredible partner in keeping my pup happy and healthy. Healthy Paws not only approved our claim without delay but paid it out in just 8 days. In the middle of a stressful and emotional situation, their fast and compassionate service was a huge relief! We have strong accident and illness coverage through them, and knowing Healthy Paws is by our side gives me peace of mind that my dog will continue to live a high-quality, active life for years to come. I can’t recommend them highly enough. If you’re considering pet insurance, this is the company you want in your corner.

Refused to confirm if it would be covered, they said I would have to get the procedure done and then submit it to see if it would be approved. I've read many negative reviews for Healthy Paws. I have come to the conclusion that you may be far better off contributing to your own "Pet savings account" in the financial markets. We currently hold two Healthy Paws policies. They are usually great out of the gate and then yearly price you out of any reasonable affordability due to "rising vet rates and any other excuse they can. I take responsibility for my pets by maintaining individual accounts since they were both puppies and yes we are still with Healthy Paws for the time being but the handwriting is on the wall. This is their business model and I think it should be regulated....My 2 cents.
