This insurance SUCKS!! Paid for it well over 2 years because my dog had a torn leg ligament which we paid for out of pocket (hence that’s why we got the insurance in the first place). A couple or few years go by and it happened to his other leg. They said they won’t cover because it’s a preexisting condition. What???? It’s on another leg smh. If you have this crappy insurance I suggest you get in writing what they will cover and what they won’t. We won’t be using them anymore.

I would not recommend this insurance. I have my dog covered through them and he got a hematoma on his ear. If you’re unfamiliar with these, they’re essentially a large blood blister that could be caused by anything like hitting the ear, playing too hard, shaking his head, etc. I submitted a claim for the surgery that he had to have and they denied it for being a pre existing condition. When I called they said they were told he has allergies in October of 2022 and that’s considered incurable and that moving forward, anything that happens on his skin won’t be covered. Which means that even if he gets an injury (like this hematoma) they wouldn't cover it. What is the point of an accident policy if they won’t cover anything skin related? Most accidents involve wounds. It seems like they’ll find any reason to deny a claim.

I had to cancel and find a more reasonable rate with less Greed involved. ASPCA insurance is not associated the rescue association, just another disgusting insurance agency.

First, dates were wrong, 2nd previous history of issue had nothing to do with current issue of ankle fracture. Just because it was leg issues in past doesn’t mean fractured ankle. I never got a denial letter for the correct date of denial. And when I stated ankle fracture is not same as bladder spasms. I even asked for a letter explaining why they denied they said for me to look at “exclusions and/or explanation of benefits”. That’s their answer. Don’t buy this insurance. They will find every possible excuse to not reimburse you. And it’s not cheap! I cancelled right away. Not worth the hassle and excuses. Terrible service!

Filed a claim for two infections. It was denied as 'pre-existing'. They claimed it 'could be' due to allergies. They did not give a reason for the skin infection other than 'might be due to allergies'. The ear infection was considered 'pre-existing' since the medication given was the same as a previous medication, even though though my dog has never had this infection before, ever. My vet said he was as close to 100% certain these are due to environmental issues, rather than allergies, but the claim was still denied. Filing a BBB claim today.

My dog suffered for many years and it was costing me a fortune. I decided to finally get pet insurance with ASPCA, and I've been with them for about 3 years. In the beginning, ASPCA was a real pain in the arse, they wanted documents of ALL of his medical records, problem was that he had been to 3 different veterinary doctors, and this took some work. ASPCA kept denying claims based on pre-existing conditions, and admittedly, they were pre-existing; they're not stupid, but as time went on, my dog developed more health problems, and I would pay the bill out of pocket, then submit a claim. It would take about a week, but they would pay as much as 75%.
Recently, my dog passed away, but not after several costly vet bills were incurred totaling around $4700. Total for the year was around $8k, this included full bloodwork, urine culture, emergency doctor visits in the middle of the night, X-rays, Ultrasounds, everything the doctors could think of. I paid out of pocket and days later they reimbursed me about 65%. Insurance companies are in the business to make money, and ASPCA is fair about how they conduct their business. They denied pre-existing conditions because they really were pre-existing, but when my dog had new health problems, they held their end of the deal and paid out up to 75%. I highly recommend ASPCA.

Had coverage with them for 2 years, my dog had her first seizure a year into coverage, they covered the first visit for that ($180), she then had 2 more seizures 8 months later and those vet bills were significantly higher and they decided to deny coverage and illegally claim it as a pre-existing condition, despite covering the condition when the vet bill was only $180 eight months prior. Scam company, happy to collect your money when your pet is healthy, but will drop you as soon as you need their assistance.

I should have done more research before getting a policy with ASPCA. My experience with this company so far has been frustrating and a big let down. First off, the application process wasn't a breeze. They requested 2 years prior medical records. I found out later they use those records to nickel and dime customer claims. For example, my dog has a history of elevated liver enzymes which is a pre-existing condition. However, if my dog developed any new critical liver illnesses including hepatitis or cancer during the policy period it would not be covered even if it was a life and death emergency situation based on that pre-existing condition.
Secondly, I submitted two claims so far and the outcomes for both claims were disappointing. The first claim amounted to $624.00, I took my dog in because of bloating, shivering, hiding under the bed. They took blood work and x-rays and medication. ASPCA did not pay for the x-rays or blood work even though my dog had developed a new illness which is a collapsed trachea. They paid me a measly $104.00 for the medication only based on my dog having continued elevated liver enzymes what they said was a pre-existing condition never mind the new illness that they found. They scammed at me.
At that time, of my vet visit he recommended for me to do an ultrasound to take a look deeper into my dog's internal organs for any critical illnesses due to the elevated liver enzymes or any other condition. That's my second claim. I had an ultrasound done on my dog. I paid $750 dollars. That was the amount of the claim. ASPCA denied the claim altogether even though they found a new illness in my dog which is chronic renal disease. Again they based their decision on my dog's elevated liver enzymes. Their decision was unjust.
This time I filed an appeal and submitted additional documents. I have yet to hear back from them. I am also going to appeal the first claim. Finally, reaching out to them is like pulling teeth. I either get connected with an overseas operator or if I'm lucky to a US rep. But either way they want to know tons of information before getting into my account spending more time on that instead of looking for answers to help me in dealing with the claims.

I signed up after reading reviews, comparing coverage and costs and covered reimbursement. Decided on ASPCA for both dogs. My littlest one developed a cough. He underwent xrays and echocardiogram after a murmur was heard and pray showed enlarged heart. The echo confirmed the vet's suspicion of mitral valve disease. This was 4 months ago and my dog takes 4 medications a day, twice a day. More if he develops infection.
I have submitted the bills and medical records. The vet's office also sent his medical records 4 times. I have called 3 times as well as sending what they ask for. I am spending about $225 monthly on medical. But not even the initial workup, xrays, tests were reimbursed. Not one cent. Under explanation of benefits it says they need copies of his medical records. How many times does this have to be sent? Then it says claim closed. There is no explanation. Nothing. No communication. I just keep checking online until they mail me a statement saying "case closed". Who do I contact? How do I challenge their decision? What is it based on. What a farce. DO NOT TRUST YOUR PET'S CARE TO ASPCA PET INSURANCE.

Claims are continually denied for no reasonable reason. I submit payments, receipt and diagnosis they require and I have been denied payments totaling over $1000 + and get a run around, submitting various documents when asked. Not once have they reached out to my vet for clarification. Leaving me to pay for my policy but denying all and every claim. That is not what pet insurance is for. I feel betrayed at a time we count of giving our pets the best we can afford. I’m on SSI, retired and other companies I've used were 1000x more responsive in a positive way. We waited over a year to get another dog after homer passed. This puppy was healthy as a horse when we got him. But ASPCA left us hanging out to dry apparently.

Refused claim due to “preexisting condition”. They wanted medical records from a year prior to my dog’s vet visit (for claim). He didn’t have a visit prior because he literally doesn’t have a preexisting condition. My dog got an ear infection and skin yeast infection after we moved from a cooler climate to a much hotter climate. There was no preexisting ear infection nor a preexisting yeast/skin infection. I’m not even sure how that could be deemed a preexisting condition. It reminds me of the stories you see about someone calling a company to report an item wasn’t received, and the rep asks for a photo. A photo of WHAT? Nothing arrived. They’ll look for any reason to deny your claim. Spot is superior and we will be going back to them after this mess.

I have had ASPCA for 6.5 years now. I have always had a good experience with them except in the beginning when my large claim was denied and I got my vet involved and threatened to get a lawyer. They paid out the claim. For 6 years I have not had an issue, they paid, sometimes a little slow, on all of my dog's claims. Fast forward to now. My dog got sick and couldn't walk, took him to a neurologist at UC Davis. They ran extensive tests and finally came up with the diagnosis of meningitis. My claim is for around 9k (I have a 20k policy) and I have not been going round and round with them for 3 months trying to get it paid.
I have called twice a week for months and talked to 3 supervisors. The first one said everything was in order and should be paid out immediately, 2 months later..... nothing. 2nd said it was being audited. 3rd said they were expediting the claim and that everything looked good and he would call me at the end of the week. No call. Called today, on the phone for 45 min and get the same. They are still reviewing the medical notes. I am now going to file a grievance with the insurance commissioner to try to get this paid.

They used to be good, but no more. I insured my dogs for over 10 years, closer to 20. I have insured my last 2 dogs. I was very happy with the coverage with my 1st dog. I even wrote positive reviews during that time. On my most recent dog, however, they changed my deductible without my knowledge, continued to charge at the same rate & then didn’t cover my claim.
When I called to dispute they said they sent me a letter to say they were changing my deductible from $100 to $750. I said I thought that such a major change, without hearing anything from me, it should require an attempt to call to inform me. They said they disagreed, that they felt the letter was sufficient & they didn’t have the staff to call everyone to tell them about such changes. I asked them to simply honor the plan that I had signed up for. It would’ve only been a $250 payout on their part & something that I felt was more than reasonable to maintain my confidence in the company. They said they would submit my concern to “Higher ups.” I was left a voicemail about a week later denying my request.
When I called back, the person I spoke with said, “We sent you a letter with ‘BOLD LETTERS’ that you should’ve responded to if you didn’t like the change.” I explained that I get junk mail from them & many other organizations & felt that other attempts by phone should have been required to make such a major change. I said that adhering to the plan that I had signed up for was a good compromise, especially considering it wasn’t a major cash hit to them. It was just a good will gesture to follow through with the contract that we had originally agreed upon. I strongly recommend, DO NOT use ASPCA Pet Insurance!!!

I started years before for less than 80 dollars. I been forced to cancel the insurance before she passed away because the total amount covered was less than the cost of the year. Please save your money and go with a different company. My dog was getting older and I got him the insurance plan, the Illness and Accidents plan. I was planning to go to a new vet because the previous one told me there was nothing wrong with him besides being older, and I was convinced something was off. The new vet was a specialist and was not cheap and she ran a lot of test. She told me it would be at least 10 business days before all the results came in. I decided to file a claim on the insurance while I waited for the results. And before the results even came in, the insurance had denied reimbursement for anything on my claim. That includes the veterinary consultation, the x-rays, the MRI, the CT, the lab test, bloodwork, and IV fluids. All things that are shown to be covered in my policy.
This company reimburse me for ZERO dollars for claim saying he had a pre-existing condition. Apparently their claims staff can diagnose quicker than a Vet. A few days after they denied the claim, I finally got an actual diagnosis of cancer. And I decided to call and cancel my plan because I knew if they had already given me nothing during the diagnosis process, then they would definitely fail help with anything for the treatment. By the way, cancer is something they also claim to cover, but I wouldn’t risk it based on their track record. For anyone still in doubt, I uploaded a screenshot of my claim with the reimbursement amount and a screenshot of what’s supposed to be covered under my policy.
