Disclosure of Personal Information. I've contacted them twice over the past week requesting they delete my personal information with no response. Are there any active class action lawsuits or others means available to force them to comply?

Contacted the website to have my personal information removed from their database. Received the same email from “Scarlett” stating they will not remove the information because it is public records. While this is true, I do not think it is right for someone to be able to Google search my name and find where I live. If someone wants to opt out of having their personal information on the website, they should respect the person‘s right to privacy and safety. I would be interested in joining a class action lawsuit against this company.

I have the same experience as other people writing review on this company, they breach privacy and ignore requests to remove information, and in my case the information is no longer correct since I had sold the unit but they still ignore my requests to remove it. There must be something that can be done about. Obviously I’m not the only one bothered by the conduct of this company? It’s scandalous.

Contacted the company numerous times to remove my private info from their website. They keep responding with their Scarlett ** fake email with an automated response. I also called the phone number with no luck. They are getting private info from the county websites which are not Google searchable and they are converting into a Google searchable format without owner's consent and make it available on Google. I am filing a lawsuit with Chicago Cook County court against the company for privacy violations for punitive and civil rights. If anybody wants to join let me know.

My experience with this website is unfortunately awful. I think the company or website goes against personal privacy. They should be the ones sharing their own personal information too instead of being two face and say public records and anyone can get the info but sharing it with the worldwide web isn’t right. Everyone at Blockshopper company should have their information public shown but instead they say it public information. I think they are just terrible individuals that should be in prison or someone in the government should put them and other places out of business.

It’s so awful that I have been able to opt out of my personal information from every other website but this one. Guess who showed up at my door? Someone I desperately have worked hard to get away from. My stalker told me they were able to find me because of this website. Everyone has some type of search for homeowners' information through the counties that they live in, but it’s not visible through a Google search. So confused that a website like this is able to be used, I guess it will take someone getting hurt or worse to shut it down.

Most websites offer opt out options but Blockshopper.com does not and refuse to remove my information of our name, address and property features. I understand they can purchase our information from county where the property is but they have no right to display our names without our permission. I contacted Blockshopper.com many times and they refuse to remove our information. Where is the justice? Anyone can Google someone for where they live. I do not mind if they paid. At least we know who is inquiry about it with the charge information. What purpose do Blockshopper served? Maybe I should Google this Charlotte person live?

These people put information about your home online, including your name and address, purchase price, etc. These personal details are easily available to anyone, including my students in my case. They enable stalking and give you little recourse. You have no control over what they post. I emailed this company 3 times but our information still remains public after several months. We adopted 4 children with biological parents who were incarcerated for violent crimes to their children as well as other children. I explained this in an email but I only get the same emails from them: Blockshopper publishes public records. Property ownership, sales and property tax information is listed publicly in multiple places. Please refer to our FAQ page for more information. We will, however, in certain circumstances where a security risk can be demonstrated, edit a homeowner's name in our database so as to make it less searchable by Google, etc. Your name will be amended to “Not Available”.
Please be aware it usually takes Google and other search engines a week or two to index these new pages sometimes longer. Apparently no one is doing anything to remove our information and Blockshopper is putting our children in harm's way if the bio parents, now released from prison, finds out where we live. It almost seems that Blockshopper is asking for a class action lawsuit. This company is awful and will be criminally charged if I seen any of our children’s' very dangerous biological parent.

It's unfortunate that companies like this are allowed to exist. Most companies that display personal information provide an opt out, no matter how hard it is to find on their site. This one requests a court order for stalkers or that you are in law enforcement (?!) - how ridiculous. They display personal information including addresses, which for me is proving to be very scary. I do not want anyone to be able to google me and find my house, which is why I try not to list this anywhere. This is the beginning of some very threatening situations, and while I'm not at a court order stage (yet) - it is unfortunate that this company allowing for the start of this and won't stop until someone gets hurt. Who does this and how easy would it be to mask the name of a homeowner on an address if the intent is to help home buyers. Even tax record sites do this, which are way more reputable.
On top of this most the information is actually inaccurate since this isn't a government supported site, so lose for everyone. Knowing they won't be around long puts me slightly at ease, but really scum bag sites like this shouldn't be allowed to exist on the www. 1) Email your elected officials (at both the county and state level) pointing out that companies like Blockshopper.com are jeopardizing people's safety by aggregating real estate property transaction records with other personal information (photos, employment, names and details of your spouse and children, etc.) obtained from a multitude of other sources and then even making maps and directions to where you live. Thousands of people nationwide have requested removal only to often be rudely refused or ignored (even for requests involving minor children) because Blockshopper.com (and its highly controversial owner Brian Timpone) repeatedly prioritizes revenue above the safety of human beings.
There have been numerous complaints concerning their facilitation of harassment, stalking, identity theft, etc. Much of the danger could be curtailed by making personal real estate property records private by default and only releasing them to appropriate agencies with a valid legal need and/or introducing legislation requiring companies such as Blockshopper.com to honor opt-out removal requests.
2) Email every real estate agent advertising on Blockshopper.com, bringing to their attention the appallingly bad reputation the company has on review websites such as ConsumerAffairs.com (as well as the law blog article at **) and let the realtors know their reputation may be severely tarnished by maintaining an association with Blockshopper.

My elderly father sold his property to a Person/Company around 5 years ago. My father who is severely disabled, is a Veteran and has scrimped and saved all his life for 1 dream, finally was able to get the ranch of his dreams. He used the down payment to pay it half off, then the monthly payments rolled over to make his payments on the ranch. Then they started drilling the Bakken Shale where his ranch was located and there is a wealth of oil in the area!
The Person/Company stopped making their payments on the land purchased from my father. Scared, embarrassed, ashamed and knowing he had to let his lifelong dream go, my Dad was pressured into accepting a much lower figure for his original parcel of land. $200,000 lower, by the SKUNK that had stopped making the payments!!! Being 73 years old and scared of losing everything, my Dad accepted...after the bank told him too, the skunk's real estate agent/lawyer/property manager, etc. told him to---you get the picture. He put that measly little amount all on his ranch but could not make the rest of the payments for the $76,000 still owed. My Dad told me after it was too late for me to help that he needed help and why. He was so hurt and devastated, he almost passed away from depression and illness. He now lives in a care home 1 block from the VA hospital. Homeless. He had to move his 2 old horses he has owned from birth to now (24 years) to my house-200 miles away, find homes for his 2 blind dogs, cannot have any personal freedom due to his RA and is sadly existing. I see him every weekend, but it is not the same, his health prevents him from coming to even visit me.
Blockshopper was a site I stumbled on today by accident. And what did I find??? The SKUNK OWNS a: real estate business, loan company, foreclosure company, and more real estate than you can imagine!!! So, I got off the phone with the SEC, FBI Mortgages Division and the State Auditor and started calling lawyers that deal with Defrauding the Elderly. Oh I called my Dad, and for the first time in 2 years he sounded happy.
I am sorry you all are upset and realize that my experience will not make a bit of difference to you and your feelings. I do, however, have to say that anyone in the world can call the county treasurer, open up a phone book, Google a name, phone number or state and have more info on you than you do! I worked with public records after college and everything is out there--for public viewing--in the file cabinets!!! Even you financials!!! And for $5.00....anyone can buy your relatives list, phone numbers, work and marital history, etc. on over 200,000 sites. (I just checked after reading your comments....yikes!!! )
I am a real, 43 year old woman in Hamilton, MT and my Dad really did lose his property here and in Fallon, MT. Along with the oil they are now removing from what was his property. He had to give up the mineral rights too. This Person/Company made 2 years of interest payments after the down payment and then...stopped.

Laws are meant to protect peoples rights, not be exploited. This site goes against the spirit of the law and is fundamentally illegal, because it uses local law and applies it to the internet which does not have boundaries. As an example, the speed limit on the highway does not extend to residential roads. There is a boundary there where the law does not apply anymore. We get our data from the county - it is the public record. It's our goal to be accurate and consistent, so we don't simply edit the public record on any request."
Are they really allowed to pull county data and list private buyer's names to keyword searches on all major Internet search engines globally and then use Google's maps to pin-point location? There are thousands of people who are requesting their information be removed from blockshopper.com and should not require any special legal reasons for them to remove. If a tax paying citizen is asking, the private company should remove upon request. All they would need to do is remove the name, but they do not. Something needs to be done here given the number of people complaining. At the very least, Google should prevent them from using their map for each address if the person does not give consent. There are no other companies posting this level of information and refusing to work with anyone. This needs to be stopped today.

BlockShopper posts "public" information about personal real estate transactions on their site. This information includes names, addresses and sales prices. They use information that belongs to others, but that is made available as a public record as the content for their site. For my transaction, they used other social networking sites such as LinkedIn to crawl through my resume and fabricate a news story without verifying source accuracy. They then published this story on the web and probably in the real estate section of newspapers that commission them to do so. This careless and reckless business model puts the safety and privacy of everyone at risk by publishing personal information that is owned by others. They hide under the guise of public record and make a profit at the expense of personal privacy and safety.
BlockShopper was recently caught using fake bylines in their articles. I believe that this is one of the most hated companies in existence.

I have similarly asked them to remove my information, but they refuse to do so.
In addition to contacting your representatives in the congress and senate, everyone should file a complaint with the FTC. The more complaints they have, the more likely they are to look into the matter. Secondly, everyone should file similar complaints with their attorney general and their state representatives. It is really about time that BloackShopper change its practices or be shut down and making sure all avenues of action are covered is important. This is a serious problem that needs to be addressed.

Though Jones Day and their Chicago Law firm filed suit against Blockshopper.com and this Blockshopper.com website Owners: Timothy Landon, Brian Timpone & Edward Weinhaus about trademark infringement, the law firm was also victimized by Blockshopper.com by having their home addresses with their full names published and accessible in Blockshopper.com.
Numerous concerns have been expressed by private citizens, who in their joy of becoming homeowners were published on that unscrupulous website along with their addresses and real estate information, creating easy access to their information and positioning them to be victims of crime. It seems clear that the Blockshopper.com business model includes the unethical use of people's information for their own business profits and contributes to the crime opportunities and the rise in crime against US homeowners.
Do these website business owners have an ethical responsibility to the US homeowners not to publish full names of the real estate information? Many people would agree. Do they have a legal obligation? The websites owners said they don't and will not remove homeowners' information (even just names) when requested. For the sake President Obama's success of stimulating the economy and homeownership, it is hoped that these website owners have a legal responsibility to remove when requested people's information from their website. Can the legal entities that be or the local, state, and/or federal government help citizens with these grave concerns?

Blockshopper.com claims to use public information, but every home owner in the city of coverage is not listed. I've done my research. My parents’ name aren't linked to Blockshopper’s at all but mine is. If they want to publicize information that a person would normally have to get from county records, that's fine. But to be thorough and fair, they should check to see if the person they are about to post has been a victim of some kind of criminal act. I have been and so have many others. Now the person who tried to murder me only has to google my maiden name and he has access to my address and new name.
I did not purchase my home with my new name. Blockshopper should also check to see if someone is unlisted. I am. This blatant display of information can cause someone their life. I also requested my information be removed or *** out to some point. I was refused and told to show proof of the crimes against me. That is unacceptable. I simply asked her to please remove my information from Blockshopper.com's website. She replied with saying they cannot. Here's is the latest as of March 2010. "Our policy is that we do not remove information from out database unless required by the laws of that state/county". The following was her earlier response to my request, "Your name is a part of the public record. I suggest contacting the county if they are willing to remove you from the public record the information will drop off during our next update from your county". I explained to her that my state and county maintains a real property database which is legal and has been in existence for decades, therefore, this new Blockshopper.com is not necessary or was even authorized. When one googles ones name, this Blockshopper stuff comes up. When Blockshopper was not here our private/personal information didn't come up. They are making it so easy for anyone to collect information. There must be some law against this. In addition, they are rude people and I may even say predatory. I don't like them. There is no good reason for this and this is not good business. It appears that they (Blockshopper.com) have taken the liberty to provide personal information without authorization from the civilian/public.

Now that I informed them that I complained to the Consumer Affairs people and my attorney, Block shopper has added two more listings of my information! I asked them nicely to remove my information and now they have three entries for me! This company needs to be shut down! I am emotionally distressed over the fact that my personal information is out there now for my residents to see and locate where I live. I have taken great strides to hide where I live so angry tenants cannot find my home and Blockshopper.com has now added entries on me! Please make them stop. I will be finding a therapist to help me deal with this emotional distress.

I google myself frequently because I have apartment homes and every once in a while a tenant will get pissed off at me. I do not want them to know where I live. Blockshopper.com has published my name, address, trust information, amount we paid for the home and other information I do not want my tenants to have access to. Every other site that had information about me has removed it. I recently had a tenant get upset, find where I live, send me threatening letters and keyed my cars for over $5,000 worth of damage. She found my information on Blockshopper.com.
I asked Scarlet to remove my information and she refused. I actually hired an attorney to write her a letter to tell her my safety is in jeopardy because of her website. She did not care. I have copies of all the emails if you would like. My computer guru sent me links to several places where this Blockshopper.com website has had complaints. Please shut them down. I am in fear of my life and the lives of my dogs now. I am having to install cameras at my home to videotape the goings on outside.

These guys published my full name and address in Google! They give my wife's name, my kids' names, my relatives. There are photos of my house including the backyard. An open invitation to burglars. How can they do this? When I contacted them, they said "tough luck". Someone's got to stop these guys!

My privacy is being violated by their posting of my personal information on their website. I have been getting a lot of marketing stuff in the mail and knocks on the door for other offers like offering to buy my property at a low price (my purchase price is posted).

Same as everyone else. I googled my name and up came my full name and address, my wife's name and every bit of information about my home and where I live including photographs (no doubt stolen from Google). When I asked them to remove it, I got a curt note telling me that they wouldn't because it's public information. I cannot find any public records where I live to validate their claim. In any case, when someone asks them to remove the listing, they should do it. I am just angry enough to go after them now.

I requested to have my name removed from their site, as I have concerns about staying safe. Blockshopper.com did not care and refused to remove or abbreviate my name. May the employees of blockshopper.com experience the difficulty that they have put innocent private citizens. I will not shop with advertisers like Google, Verizon, and realtors who affiliate themselves with blockshopper.com. These people who threaten my welfare have taken advantage of me.

Blockshopper.com is posting my name address and cost of my home as well as aerial photos of where my home is and how to get to it. It comes up in a Google search. I'm worried about my safety because this information comes up in a Google search only with Block Shopper and I don't want it to.

Blockshopper refuses to provide an "opt out" on their site which exposes personal information at a dangerous level. Even when informed that there were safety reasons to protect my family, they refused to remove my info. Apparently, the only way to stay off this website is to not own a home. Isn't that a violation of civil rights?

Blockshopper.com is a paid advertisement website that takes information from linked in and other websites to create dangerous, false information and is an invasion of privacy. They need to be shut down. Invasion of privacy. Falsification of records.

I I asked to be removed from their unauthorized website where both my own and my wife's personal information are on display. I had written, "Please remove us from your list immediately. This is very disturbing and a complete invasion of privacy. I expect a response back within 24 hours." Their response was, "BlockShopper publishes public records. Property ownership and sales information is listed publicly in multiple places on the internet and in other publications. We get our data from the county-- it is the public record. It's our goal to be accurate and consistent, so we don't simply edit the public record on any request."
This is an outrage and certainly adds to the continued destruction of our "Right to Privacy" in this country, regardless of how they choose to twist the law.

My wife is a social worker who regularly interacts with the public over very emotional issues. For her safety and as a matter of county policy, our home address and phone number are unlisted. Yet, we were recently alarmed to find that our home address shows up as the first result when one puts her name into Google now.
I asked BlockShopper to remove it, but they refused, saying it's public information. Yet they are the only ones that puts this info on the web for everyone to see, indexed by search engines. I believe freedom of speech does not apply here. If it is illegal to shout "fire" in a crowded theater, then it should not be OK to put a person's address on the web if they have safety concerns and asked the company to remove it. All I want is for them to allow a method of opting out, but they refused. Is there anything we can do?

This company publishes and distributes on search engines private information. This information is drawn from municipal government records which are not entered into internet search engines and therefore is protected by municipal servers. The questions are: How does BlockShopper download the information? And does the government express permission to enter the information into universal search engines?
I submitted a formal complaint to the Federal Trade Commission stating that BlockShopper contributes significantly to identity theft by making private identification info available universally. I encourage all to make a complaint at **. No need to enter information where they ask if you gave money to BlockShopper.

I have asked repeatedly for my name and address to be removed from their website. Like many others, I have been told that it is public information. Yes, I realize that; however, via the state sites, my name is not "googleable"! And, if I can opt not to have my name and address published in a phone book, I should have the right to opt out of having my name and address listed on the Internet. This is a violation of my privacy and I want it stopped!

Blockshopper totally invaded my privacy by putting personal information in one place for all to see. We have small kids and are now concerned for their safety. The site not only shows what we paid, and where we live (aerial view) , it also tells my professional biography. I received numerous emails from people telling me that they received google alerts with my information showing up. I work for a company that is high profile, and the publicity is not good. Even if Blockshopper.com's actions are not illegal, they are immoral.

I am one of the homeowners listed on this site: **. Please remove the reference to me and my husband, as well as our unit number. I have just completed the arduous task of changing both my work number and cell number to avoid being found by somebody who has been harassing me for years, and your site could possibly enable the behavior to continue, potentially leading to disastrous results.
I am concurrently forwarding this email to my other neighbors in the complex, as I am certain that they do not want their personal information publicized. In addition, I am filing reports with the Better Business Bureau, Consumer Affairs and the Attorney General's office. It's my understanding that there are many others who share my concerns: https://www.consumeraffairs.com/online/blockshopper.html.
Though nothing has transpired as of yet, it is only a matter of time before I will be forced to take legal action against the person who has been harassing me. It hardly seems appropriate that this information should be made public when there are counter efforts made to protect one's privacy (blocking of calls, Do Not Call registries, requesting that somebody be unlisted in the phone book). How is it that the DMV is not allowed to disclose this information, yes this non-government company is allowed to have this privilege? It's one thing for them to have a private list for their needs but this goes above and beyond what is appropriate in this day and age.
Based on the many complaints accrued already (https://www.consumeraffairs.com/online/blockshopper.html), this is a problem that should be addressed sooner rather than later.
