This is more of a legal referral to lawyers in a small network. I live in central Texas and needed legal services in southern Texas with the closest lawyer LegalShield has is Houston area. They honestly wanted me to use their in network lawyer to travel hours away for my case. Useless and waste of money I have been paying monthly. The lawyer they referred me to agreed to take 25% off his fee because I was referred by legal shield. That’s right, none of my other paid for services applied. I’ll be moving to legal zoom.

I enrolled in LegalShield on February 16, 2026 seeking legal assistance for a business contract dispute involving a bookkeeper. I needed timely guidance regarding unauthorized work, additional charges, and access to my financial records. The day after I enrolled, I was contacted by Merritt Webb; however, I was immediately told there was a conflict of interest and that my case would need to be referred to another attorney. I was told I would be contacted within approximately three business days. That did not happen. Over the next two weeks, I made multiple attempts to follow up through the LegalShield portal and by email. I was repeatedly told attorneys have up to 72 hours to respond, but that timeframe was exceeded multiple times without meaningful communication or resolution.
I was eventually referred to another attorney (**). I left multiple messages and never received a return call. Instead, I received an unclear text message from a name that did not match the referred attorney, asking me to send sensitive information without any prior consultation. At no point did I speak with this attorney. Despite this, I was later told that I had received a “consultation” from **, which is not accurate. I never spoke with him and received no legal advice. I was then referred to a second attorney, ** (with the call handled by Russ ** from his office). During that call, he confirmed he had not reviewed the contracts I uploaded through the LegalShield portal. Despite not reviewing the documents, he provided an opinion and advised me to wait and see if legal action was taken rather than offering proactive guidance. The interaction also included dismissive and unprofessional remarks.
At no point did I receive the document review that was part of the service I paid for. When I followed up again with LegalShield’s customer advocate, Debra, I was told that no other attorney in their network would accept my matter. I was also informed that attorneys are independent and may decline cases, meaning there is no guarantee that a member will actually receive assistance. This was not clearly disclosed at the time I enrolled. I was further told that attorneys can provide an opinion without reviewing contracts, which contradicts the expectation of meaningful legal review. Despite all of this, I was billed for a second month of service while still not receiving proper assistance. LegalShield ultimately cancelled my membership and issued a refund, but made no meaningful effort to resolve the situation or provide the legal support I initially sought.
After compiling and providing detailed documentation through my local LegalShield representative, I expected some level of review or follow-up at the corporate level. Instead, my membership was simply cancelled and refunded, and no one from corporate reached out to address the issue. This gave the impression that there was little interest in retaining a paying client or resolving a clear breakdown in service. Overall, the experience showed a lack of accountability, poor communication, and a failure to deliver the services that were represented. The structure of the service appears to allow attorneys to decline matters without ensuring that the member receives help.
If you choose to use this service, I would strongly recommend keeping detailed records of all communications, including emails and phone calls. In my experience, a lower-cost legal service did not translate into meaningful or professional legal support. For important business matters, it may be worth consulting directly with a qualified attorney to ensure proper guidance.

This was my first time using LegalShield. My first encounter was not so good because I was told over the phone that I would be receiving a request # by email to respond back. However, I never got that first email to respond back against the request #. It took a couple of weeks to hear from them. Maybe that is because I am not familiar with their process??? Thank you. Called and paid for the membership on 1/30/2026. Sent in written request for cancellation and refund on 2/2/2026. NO SERVICES RENDERED, well within their 10-day cancellation period. I am now being told on the phone that refunds are generally not offered and someone will “review and decide.” Again, no service was rendered. After reading all the reviews here and seeing the amount of people they’ve failed, I felt it safest to contact my bank to dispute the charge. One more time: NO SERVICE RENDERED!

I am so unsatisfied with the representation of Legal Shield and the Oregon Provider Attorney that Legal Shield requires I use. I have been paying for a "Family" membership since 2017 and have paid via auto-pay the entire time. However, I have been refused services for my Spouse because she is Native Chinese and does not speak English well. We were not even allowed to speak to an attorney as the assistance was blocked at the outset. I was informed by an administration personnel that the Attorney had decided that my wife could not understand Legal matters. This is entirely without basis or evidence. This Professional Conclusion was arrived at by considering nothing but Spoken Language. Kivel and Howard have had no interaction whatsoever with my wife. It's not that she is unable to understand legal matters. She manages an Investment Portfolio, a business of her own as well as an S Corp.
We offered to provide an interpreter which was flatly refused with no explanation other than they had been "burned" in the past. That sounds like perhaps Kivel and Howard didn't provide adequate representation? Maybe not. Therefore my wife was discriminated against based solely on her Native Language Spoken without any offer to provide services in another manner. They simply fall back on the phrase used extensively in the contract "In the Professional Judgement of the Provider Attorney" they can refuse to provide services (which seems to fall under any situation that suits them).
However, Legal Shield is content to continue to take my money every month to provide "Family" services. However, only "to the extent that the Professional Judgment of the Provider Attorney" suits their desire to put forth any effort on the behalf of my "Family". This product did not live up to the way it is promoted. I suggest that anyone considering buying this service or has recently bought and does not have significant money invested yet read the contract that you probably signed electronically without actually reading the contract. I wish all of you reading this only the best.

No calling and no writing from our firm, Wagner, Falconer & Judd. We'll need our money back, since someone defrauded our firm and an attorney bought the dismissal. Your intellectual deficit is a void that the national debt couldn't pay to compensate for.

I had a scheduled meeting with a Legal Shield lawyer today for: 8:30-11:30am. She left me a voicemail saying she could not get through to me around 12:00pm her name is: Kathryn or Kathleen **. She left me a message stating she wanted me to fax in a copy of the Power Of Attorney and she gave me the wrong number: 631-4732. The correct number is: 631-231-4732. There is a password that legal shield put on my account that is 8 characters long and I did not put any 8 character password on my account. I asked the tech support person to put in a complaint regarding this. I signed up with Legal Shield because my wife has legal shield and she doesn't have these problems. If this doesn't get solved immediately, I will be cancelling my membership.

Hahn was very helpful and made it a point to check back with me. However, I do have another concern. When I put in a request, yes, I do get a call at some point but either I don't hear the phone or miss the call. I think it would be more efficient to have appointments.

My spouse and I were drafting an updated will, PA advanced health care directive and Medical Power of Attorney forms. We followed the online questionnaire and check list. We had a telephone conference with our provider attorney and it was fully explained what our next action steps were in clear language. I would highly recommend a LegalShield subscription plan.

Legal Shield heard my situation and streamlined the process of justice when being accused of smoking in a hotel. I don't smoke. I've stayed in well over 100 hotels within a year and there's a reason why I never choose a smoking room. Wyndham/La Quinta in California tried to charge me $500 because they claimed that an "electronic monitoring device" detected smoke particles in my room, when the whole floor smelled like mold, Marijuana, and cigarettes. My room was also in close proximity to an outside area where people were smoking. I remember smelling it.
That being said, don't give up when these big companies try to introduce unfounded policies that milk customers with extra fees. Stand your ground when you know you're in the right. Legal Shield was a tremendous help. They sent a letter and let them and let them know that I have very valid defenses, and that I won't be giving up w/o a proper fight. I was refunded the amount without resistance. Score one for the people!

I'm not going to write them no star because they're that pathetic. You pay money hoping that you would get an attorney and all the attorneys do is refer you out and then when you catch your plan because you're not happy with the services and they don't do anything for you they won't refund your money. Agency is nothing but a rip off and a bunch of cons. It's called highway robbery, false advertisement and I will not use them again or refer them to anybody. Bunch rip offs.

I’ve been a LegalShield member twice — once several years ago, and again more recently for both my business and personal legal needs. I originally planned to cancel quietly with no animosity, but after my final interaction with their customer service today, I feel obligated to leave an honest review. Simply put: I never found real value in this service.
Across multiple years and multiple legal matters, the attorneys assigned to me were consistently negative, unhelpful, and seemed to put in the bare minimum effort. The advice was always the easiest “cop-out” answer possible, things I could find on Google in seconds. There was never any creative problem-solving, no outside-the-box thinking, and no feeling that they were genuinely trying to help me find solutions.
In fact, on several occasions I ended up representing myself — both personally and for my business — because LegalShield wasn’t offering anything useful. The only times the service had any value at all were when I needed a letter sent on law-firm letterhead to add weight to a situation. But realistically, those were things I could have drafted myself, and that tiny benefit wasn’t worth the cost of ongoing membership.
Even worse, the letters they typed for me weren’t even proofread. They contained multiple typos and misspellings, which completely defeated the purpose of having a law firm represent you. Instead of adding credibility and professionalism, the mistakes made the letters look sloppy and weakened my position — something I could have avoided by just writing the letters myself.
They also advertise “discounted rates” through their referral network, and that is absolutely not true in my experience. Earlier this year, I had a lawsuit and contacted them expecting at least a slight break on attorney costs. The attorneys they referred me to were both charging more than what I was being sued for. Meanwhile, I easily found several attorneys on my own who charged $1,000–$1,500 less than the lawyers in LegalShield’s so-called discounted network. That alone told me their referral claims are misleading at best.
Today, they called asking me to update my payment method after I had switched banks. That’s when I realized I didn’t want to continue the membership, so I told them I’d like to cancel. When the representative asked why, I gave calm, genuine feedback — exactly what I’ve written above — without being rude or emotional. I explained I’m not a legal expert, but I’m also not clueless; I can look up statutes and figure out legal options on my own, and I expected more than Google-level advice from a paid service.
Instead of taking the feedback professionally, the representative responded with a sarcastic comment along the lines of: “Oh, I understand you’re a legal expert. We’ll just cancel your service.” That unnecessary, snarky remark was the final confirmation that I made the right decision in canceling. And it’s the reason I’m leaving this review. All she had to do was process the cancellation respectfully, but instead I left the call feeling dismissed and talked down to. If you’re expecting meaningful legal guidance, critical thinking, or proactive problem-solving, LegalShield is not the service for you. In my experience, they offer minimal effort, generic advice, misleading “discounted” referrals, and customer service that becomes unprofessional the moment you provide honest feedback.

Please DO NOT pay for this service!! We paid them $60 a month for 8 years and when I needed them to simply write me a dispute letter they REFUSED!!!! Are you kidding me? Now who do I get another legal service to sue them! It just shows that every day someone is out to scam you and no one is immune! If you have this service already, cancel as soon as you can!

Great way to get legal advice. Canceling the membership should be something that can happen quicker. Waiting for an email just to cancel the account is ridiculous. I called and sent out an email and I’m still waiting to get my account cancelled. I’m praying they do NOT charge me again for the next billing period all because they weren’t able to cancel my membership in time.

I've been a member of LegalShield for years, and have seen them really go downhill. From the corporate office trying to slide in a price increase by saying you're a valued, loyal customer and they want to offer you these additional benefits. The catch is it's for an additional $13 a month! On top of this, it automatically signs you up for the price increase/upgrade?? You don't even need to authorize this increase, it just goes right into affect on a certain date. So if you don't see the email, you're out of luck! The real kicker is in order to not move forward with this price increase, you have to deal with the customer service department, where the agents are very rude and put you on hold for a long time. Forget about trying to speak with a manager.
I asked to speak with one and was put on hold for close to a half an hour, where I just hung-up because I couldn't wait any longer. Then when you try to cancel your membership, you have to call customer service again and that's when your time on hold really begins! They try to make it as difficult as possible to turn down an upgrade (really a price increase!) or to cancel your membership. It's definitely not worth all the headaches, especially with all the shady price increases.
Though we are sorry to hear that a member is choosing to lose their affordable legal services, LegalShield is a monthly subscription service, and our members have the right to cancel at any time. Per our policy, as stated on our website and in our membership contracts, all cancellation requests must be provided in writing. The easiest way to do so is by emailing us at support@pplsi.com with your name, membership number, phone number, and your request to cancel the membership. LegalShield is a scam good for writing a will. That’s about it. I signed up for their Premier Plan. I spend considerable time on the phone with the sales rep asking many questions and based on his responses decided to sign up. Well 3 hours later I cancelled. They lied to me to get out to sign up. Their services are beyond limited. It took 3 months to get a refund. They kept telling me they gave me back my money which they did not. Only got a refund from my chargeback. Can not Company beware. They said they cancelled my membership 9/1/2025. Did see my money till October 16/2025.

I've been with them for several years and have a high risk job so trouble pops up. I needed help with a civil rights matter involving the police harassment and profiling that Left me and my spouse permanently injured and disabled. We reached out and had evidence but the attorney Emily laughed at us! And even tried to convince us we didn't have a case! Another attorney talked to us like we we're jailers. I even shared that I lost a pregnancy as a result and this attorney offered no empathy and said find a criminal attorney!!! Suggesting that I'm a criminal??? I'm confused so we have PTSD, a dead infant and are permanently disabled due to police Harassment and profiling and we both have a clean!!! Record.
Truth this is company not only told me that I'm too poor to pursue a case, but also hung the phone up in my face after breaking out into laughter. I'm telling the absolute truth. This company uses us poor people to fund them while they take cases from the rich or well-off never truly getting us justice. My mental health is destroyed by the way I was treated and this civil right case I can't get justice for. Because of God I never unalived myself. 6 years of paying this company for them to do nothing absolutely nothing for me when I needed you. You scammed me and emotionally abused me!!!! I overly dislike you for what you did!!! And neglected me!! I needed you. I needed you!!! I needed you!!! I overly dislike you!!

This last time LegalShield handled a request, the gentleman did a magnificent job -- professional and effective. He was great; sorry I don't have his name handy. Before that I had been with LegalShield (Parker-Stanbury) for about 25 years. In the past 25 years all my requests were about every other year and they were sloppy and ineffective -- except once, about ten years ago. I continued to stay with LegalShield in the event I would have a tax audit. (I had been audited twice before LS; both perfectly clear.) So I stayed. But this gentleman was professional, prompt, effective and explain everything step by step. (I had a program to fix my washer. I had been waiting FOUR MONTHS, requiring me to go to a laundromat each time.) He got a new washing machine to replace the broken one. Thank you. He did good work.

I think everyone should become a member of LegalShield. Things happen in life, and life will catch you on the blind side. This is where LegalShield can provide you with that extra set of eyes in regards to legal advice. The lawyers who work at LegalShield are very educated, knowledgeable, and professional about all legal matters. They assist the clients in a professional and timely manner. They will even stand by you in court if the legal issue gets to that point, but for the most part they are able to stop legal issues before they enter the court room.
The associates that work for them are nice, respectful, and knowledgeable about legal issues as well. They take clear notes on what the client says over the phone, and they provide clear messages to the lawyers. Then the lawyers respond the the clients in a timely manner. This communication takes place through, text messages, emails, and phone calls. I rate LegalShield with a 5 star. The attorney-client relationship is built on confidential communication and trust. After attending a webinar on wills, I contacted my Legal Shield provider and asked if they would review my current will and advise me of anything I should do. As a result of the review, it was recommended I prepare new legal documents. I completed the questionnaire and received the new Will and related documents in a few days. I reviewed the material, completed the necessary parts, recruited a couple of witnesses, found a notary and completed the process. This took about a month after receiving the documents, but all things in due time. All went well and the process is now completed.

Updated on 09/30/2025: I received general message response for this review from LegalShield to tell me to contact customer care by phone and they would give me details if needed as I feel this is an error. When contacting the general customer care the agent said there are no details, then I asked for a manager, and agent wasn't able to transfer me. I wonder how often this happens to people with this company. ?
Original Review: I received a cancellation notice from Legal Shield. I have paid my monthly premiums regularly. They have sent a general response and every time I call to find out why my membership was cancelled after being a member since 2007/2008 they only tell me it was a business option according to a section J in the contract when you sign up general response and not indicating which part of section J that it was determined to cancel my account. Legal Shield does not provide you with which reasons under section J general statement? So you don't know what happened to cause the cancellations, payment problem or other?.
I would expect to be provided the details reason under Section J for my cancellation so that I can understand why after after the amount of time being a member. Is this an abnormal question and what reasoning could there be of why the Legal Shield does not provide me with or communicate the specifics to the consumer who has been a long time member or even any type of member should be given the reason within which Section J, business option was taken to cancel. I am concerned how or what was discussed to cause my cancellation.

This is the final straw. I attempted to utilize LegalShield's service for prepaid legal assistance to aid us in obtaining a report and resolving our stolen car and burglary case. Unfortunately, they failed to provide adequate support. LegalShield partnered with subpar law firms that neglected their duties and failed to provide satisfactory services to clients like myself, rendering the situation untenable. It is not worthwhile to waste your money on these ineffective and unreliable services! If I were in your shoes, I wouldn’t tolerate this level of service anymore; instead, I would seek excellent assistance elsewhere for comprehensive case support!!!!

I have been excited about Legal Shield. I requested assistance from Legal Shield for mortgage company Primelending originator. I paid for consultation, MS.**.I could make my point clear, she didn't have all the documents. I asked her if I could get additional information and forward to her if I could fax number or mailing address. So, I forward my messages since they were not responding with additional information. As told to do so. No callback.
Another thing I was informed that they would find someone from county. 7 hours away and her office says if she has to represent you, you will pay for all travel expenses. Called Ross, again and spoke to several staff members. Then informed that we contacted 12 attorneys, to no avail. And was informed that because no- money, no attorney.
Okay next issue have I need a letter sent Bollinger, slip and fall, at Walmart. 2020, 2021 car accident he ignored for two years, found out he had settled the car accident first couple months. I also found out he playes golf WITH corporate Sams,/ Walmart ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENTS. I was told an attorney would contact me. If they are calling me NO NAME, (NO ANSWER). They sent me a message that someone would be calling no one called.

My current encounter with the Legal Shield attorney assigned to me has left me somewhat uncertain. I would have preferred if the attorney had explained more about the matter or at least, checked that I understood what I was involved in. I am now in a waiting mode, not sure if waiting is the best course to take. I am left to wonder if he fully understood the materials that I provided; I certainly did not, since it seemed to be a legal document in full legal language. WHAT IS A "UCC LIEN NOTICE AND NOTICE OF POWER OF ATTORNEY GRANTED BY MERCHANT.." I am a layman NOT a lawyer.

This company is a scam. Don't use them for anything. They screwed up my trust which was supposed to be included in my subscription and it now has to be redone. The attorney did the trust his way. Didn't even mention any risks or that there were alternate ways of doing things. He then referred me out to another firm that wants to charge me $3k to fix it!

I Called in regards to concern over my rental property. They responded immediately when I mentioned it’s emergency. The attorney gave me his name and ask me to reach out again if I still have concern or if the problem escalated and did not resolve. And sure enough, I called again and he listened. I felt someone have my back and I’m not alone in this matter. It’s good to feel safe, especially in legal matters.

I liked the Will that Legal Shield prepared for me much better than the one I had before. The attorneys that prepared the Will were very good at it and they were very knowledgeable about preparing Wills.

The promoters will promote any way they can...including break the law. There a huge team called Team Pinnacle which promote through Zoom call. Zoom terms of service say no multi level marketing....You have get special letter if decide to allow you do it.. When confronted with this information they just kick user and continue to do their presentation.

They are a complete fraud! They will trap you in a membership that will be close to impossible to cancel. The attorney they referred me to did everything possible to avoid helping me. They didn't even send a letter on my behalf. When you try to contact them, they don't answer emails and just completely ignore you. I'm still trying to cancel my membership and they just keep charging me.

Too good to be true. They are not going to help. Traditional way is better (at least you can speak with a lawyer). I cannot stand wasting my time like that: I didn’t even get a chance to talk with the lawyer.!

Legalshield is a scam. They kick people when they are already down. I joined and paid membership for months to try to get help with a bad landlord. They did nothing but take my money. I called and cancelled my membership, I couldn't afford it, but they still took my money. I've been trying to get a refund due to me canceling the month prior and I'm still fighting to get it. They make life harder for someone who has already lost everything. I paid thru PayPal and I can't figure out how to put that receipt on here.

I have been non-stop spammed by this company over a month after I have cancelled my contract. Originally I would've given 5 stars but this is incredibly annoying to have almost daily emails from something I no longer use.

I have been a Legal Shield member since 10-15 years before it was called Legal Shield. When I joined it was called Pre-Paid Legal. So I have had years of experience with them. I liked it better when the “extra service” were not included which tripled my cost and I don’t use the “extra services”. The legal help I have received over the years has been fantastic.
