HORRIBLE SERVICE. They send you to several different departments to try to resolve a simple problem and still manage to not communicate. Also went up on my price over the few months and internet connection has been bad.

I am sorry you were sent to multiple departments just to resolve a simple internet issue, as well we did not do a good job communicating with you. I will send you a direct message so I can work with you to ensure your connection issue has been resolved.

Very nice people and easy to deal with and explains the different packages to fit your needs.

We are happy you had a positive experience and the sales agent provided you informed information regarding the plans we offer and what would fit your internet needs. This is the kind of support we like to hear our customer are receiving.

This company is absolutely abysmal. They are just a 3rd party and contract through ATT. The technician would not install the Modem where we advised and because of that I cannot use my computer. I have spent over 8 hours on the phone, mostly on hold, and have gotten nowhere other than to tell me the service is fine. Even when I can’t use my own computer they are holding firm to a 200 dollar cancellation fee. Stay far, far away and never even think about signing up with them.

We sincerely apologize for the frustration and inconvenience you experienced. We understand how important it is to have equipment installed in a location that works for your setup, especially when it directly impacts your ability to use your computer. While installation placement can sometimes be limited by the existing service lines and technician guidelines, we regret that this was not communicated more clearly during your appointment.

Borderline SCAMMERS. They use pushy sales tactics, all of their agents are overseas and do not actually listen to you at all. They try to sell you a $4000 dollar service which is basically a crappier version of RING (about a $250 a year service). They will try to charge you the $400 dollar failed to return your box fee even if you mail it out on time, when I first reached out to them I was trying to reach out to another local provider but google redirected me to their number and they LIED about being Smithville Internet of Bloomington IN which they have no affiliation with. Their service is overpriced, constantly drops and is throttled if you download a lot. If you accidently sign up for these clowns because you were lied to, go straight to your bank and block all auto-draw payments from them. THEY ARE SCAMMERS!

I’m sorry to hear about your experience, and I appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns. What you’ve described is not the experience we aim to provide, and I understand how frustrating this situation must feel. We take allegations regarding sales practices and misrepresentation very seriously. EarthLink does not authorize agents to misidentify themselves as other providers.

EarthLink is the biggest scam artists I’ve ever met. First, they tell you that your bill is due not even a few weeks later, I’ve been with Xfinity and Verizon, and they charge AFTER 30 days of service. Then, because I didn’t pay it, and refused to until after 30 days, they deactivated it and charged a $200 “early termination fee” and threatening to charge $300 for their lousy equipment if it’s not returned by a set date. I will happily return and go back to Verizon FiOS. They are WAYYY better, and aren’t resellers!

I’m sorry to hear about your frustration and understand how this situation would be upsetting. EarthLink bills in advance for services, which means the first bill is generated shortly after activation rather than after 30 days of use. Regarding the disconnection and early termination fee, these charges apply when an account is canceled or disconnected before the end of the service agreement.

I was a customer with Earthlink for 26 years and when I had to close the account I used for business because I sold the business, they CHARGED ME $250. Not only bad tecnnical and customer service -- but draconian business policies. Don't mess with Earthlink.

I understand how frustrating that experience must have been, especially after being a customer for 26 years. We truly appreciate the loyalty you showed over that time.
Regarding the $250 charge, certain fees—such as early termination or equipment-related charges—can apply depending on the terms of the service agreement at the time of cancellation. That said, we never want any customer to feel caught off guard by these charges.

EarthLink just takes another provider, like AT&T, and charges you a premium for managing the account. The hardware is AT&T and the ISP is AT&T. When it needs service, they send AT&T. So what do you get with that premium price? Limited customer service hours and super long hold times, a crappy app & website, and an inability for AT&T customer service to help you directly because of their contract with EarthLink. As much as the big providers suck, EarthLink somehow is worse. It was a mistake to sign up with them and I’ll be quitting them asap. Wow, while I was typing this, after being on hold for 57 minutes, their phone system just hung up on me. My Internet is out and I work from home. Run from this company.

I’m really sorry to hear about your experience—especially with your service being out while you’re working from home. While we do partner with underlying network providers in certain areas, our goal is to deliver a seamless experience and responsive support, and it’s clear we fell short here. Your experience with the wait time, disconnection, and difficulty getting help is not the level of service we aim to provide.

I won't recommend this company for my worst enemy! Account closed April 9th and sent the equipment back and in possession of UPS and still got charged the $400 when tracking number shows on its way. This company used my card to charge me even when my account was closed. My bank said this is a unapproved charged and considered fraud. This company is a joke.

I’m sorry to hear about your experience—that’s understandably frustrating, especially after you’ve already closed your account and returned the equipment. I signed on for 5G service and was unhappy from the start with sluggish data issues and PC & TV freezing. TV was horribly fuzzy and stuttering.... simply awful service. But to make matters worse in 6 weeks time I was charged 49.99 (initial connection & router), 79 (first month service), & then 101 for 2nd month service. When I asked about the increase in charge I was told other services had been applied - which I had specifically declined. After cancelling the service altogether, the $101 fee was immediately run through my credit card. It was not even prorated for the 3 days of that month - the whole charge was applied!! All in all, I feel the entire experience was an exercise in futility, frustration & dishonesty. Very unfortunate experience indeed. Sorry I bothered.

I’m sorry to hear about your experience. I understand how frustrating it must have been to deal with service issues, unexpected charges, and the cancellation process all within such a short period of time. Regarding the billing, the initial $49.99 covers shipping, and the $79 reflects the standard monthly service rate. If your billing increased to $101, that would generally indicate you purchased added services.

I have been a customer of Earthlink for the past few months and have had slow-speed issues from inception. Prior to signing, I was promised EarthLink would solve my speed issue I had with my past ISP. Not so. I have called numerous times when the speed was 1.2mps. The rep would do something, and the speed would jump to 25-26 mps instantly. Then, after a few days, back to 1.2mps. Very, very inconsistent. Yes, the customer service reps are as helpful as they are allowed to be by company OPS. I really had hoped EarthLink would be my last ISP; however, this proved not to be the case. When I ask about the inconsistency, I do not get a clear explanation. Very frustrating.

I’m really sorry to hear about your experience—especially after being assured that your speed issues would be improved. What you’re describing with the speeds fluctuating so drastically is certainly not the consistent service we aim to provide, and I understand the frustrations this causes. I did check and it shows that there are service issues in your area, so that could be causing some latency.

Signed up for service with EarthLink after being clearly told over the phone that my monthly bill would be around $30. My first bill came out to about $37, which I could understand. But then my second bill jumped to over $60, which is completely different from what I was promised. When I initially spoke with the representative, he actually quoted me $50–$60 per month. I told him I couldn’t afford that, and only then did he say he could get it down to around $30. That’s the only reason I agreed to move forward with the service.
Now I feel like I was misled just to get me signed up. I even asked them to go back and review the call recording where the representative clearly stated the lower price, but they refused to do so. That alone makes me question their honesty and customer service practices. On top of that, I’m now stuck in a contract for a full year with a company I no longer trust. The customer service, including supervisors and management, has been very unhelpful and dismissive. Overall, this has been a frustrating experience, and I would not recommend EarthLink based on misleading pricing and poor customer support.

I’m very sorry to hear about your experience—this is not the level of transparency or service we aim to provide. We understand how frustrating it must be to agree to service based on a quoted monthly rate, only to see higher charges appear on subsequent bills. Regarding your concern about the quoted rate and the request to review the call recording, we truly regret any confusion or frustration caused.

DO NOT use this internet service. I paid the $49.95 to have my "Personalized Modem" built. Once it arrived the plug in was easy but I never was able to connect my two printers. An hour with their tech support created more of a mess. I sent the modem back within 2 weeks. I used the UPS label. Less than 1 week after sending, I started getting emails that I was going to be charged $400 because I did not send back the modem. I checked the UPS site and saw my package was delivered to them. I called Earthlink and was on hold for 45 minutes.
Finally they told me to ignore it. It was a glitch in the system. I continued to get the emails. Left a message for a return call. They never called. Then, today THEY DEDUCTED $428 from my checking account. The charge is pending with a withdraw date of 4/21. This made my checking account overdrawn. For the next 5 days, it will be overdrawn without even using it. I won't be able to spend anything either like food gas... THEN, it will stay overdrawn for 10 more days while the investigation is going on. So their error is causing me a minimum of 15 days without my checking account. I have been sobbing for hours now.

I am sorry to hear about this experience—this is certainly not the situation we want any customer to go through, and I understand how stressful and urgent this must be. It appears the modem return may not have been properly processed in our system, so I have issued a refund for the non-return fee. Again, I sincerely apologize for the distress this has caused and appreciate you bringing it to our attention

I was looking for internet for my new home and Earth link said they had service in my area. I paid $49.99 for them to ship the router. And $72.00 for monthly service. I tried for days to get the internet to work. Finally called customer service just to find out that they do not service my area. So now I have to ship equipment back to get my monthly service refunded but I am not getting the $49.99 back. They should have never told me it would service my area. Basically they have stolen $49.99 from me. Do not use this company.

Signed up for 5G internet and the service kept dropping, really slow speeds, kept kicking all our devices offline. I cancelled my service and sent back their router using the UPS return label they emailed me and was still charged for internet service the following month. Apparently my account was still showing “active.” I had to explain I had a cancellation email from them dated for the month prior and that I had already returned the router. They said they would credit back the month I was charged (I’m still waiting) but now they’re sending me emails saying they haven’t received their router when the tracking label says it was delivered last month. Don’t use this internet service!

I’m really sorry to hear about your experience—this sounds incredibly frustrating, especially after you followed the proper steps to cancel and return the equipment. First of all they had my last name as Jones. They are idiots. When I canceled I was on the phone for 30 min for them to understand what cancel means. In the meantime they email a return label to print. I have no printer or a way to get to UPS. Their printed label is being mailed. It will take 14 days to receive. Keep in mind they will charge me $400 if not received within 30 days. They said when they receive the equipment I'll be funded the $400. I live on SSI. How in the hell can I absorb $400 and wait. Customer service must be DEI! They are stupid and don't know the proper way to speak English. Don't use this company. They will rip you off. I hate Earthlink!

I was told this service included unlimited data, but that was not true. Just 7 days after installation, my internet stopped working because I had “run out of data” — after paying $49 for installation plus $74 for the plan. When I called, they told me I needed to purchase more data, even though I barely used the service and only had my TV connected. That makes no sense. This feels extremely misleading and dishonest. I canceled the service and requested a refund, but they refused to return my money. I strongly recommend avoiding this company. If you’re considering satellite internet, go with Starlink instead — at least they offer a 30-day satisfaction guarantee and will refund you.

I’m really sorry to hear about your experience—this is understandably frustrating, especially when expectations around data usage and service don’t match what you were told. We never want any customer to feel misled, and we take concerns like this very seriously. Satellite internet plans can vary, and while some are described as “unlimited,” they may still have data thresholds that can impact speeds or access depending on the plan and provider.

Horrible company!! I ordered it on the day my TDS went down again! I was told it would only be $49.99 a month and it would be delivered in 24-48 hours. Wrong on both counts! It was delivered a couple of weeks later and there was an additional monthly charge for the router! I called customer service. Angel cancelled my service and sent a cancellation email, but was unable to email me a UPS return label. I asked for the exact mailing address. I paid over $22.00 to send it back to them through UPS. I included copious notes. It was signed for and received by Joyce at EarthLink on Thursday, April 2nd.
On Sunday, April 5th, I received an actual return label in my email with the message that I had until April 13th to return the router or I will be charged $400! I used their label to send all the supporting documents, along with a letter, back to them, stating that I had sent the router back and when it was signed for and received. UPS tracking showed that that packet was signed for and received by Joyce, yet again, on Friday, April 10th. Horrible company! Do not do business with them!! If the review would let me, I would leave 0 stars!

I’m sorry to hear about your experience—this is not the level of service we aim to provide, and I completely understand how frustrating and stressful this situation must have been.
