I had gone to several seminars through Medicare and they gave me different options and a price list of all the companies. I went with United American based on the price and as soon as I was eligible for Medicare. This was seven years ago and the application process was easy. United American covered all my bills but I need to look for something else because I can't afford Medicare with the supplements anymore. From what I hear from other people, what they pay is cheaper.

I've been using United American for a long time. Initially, I worked with somebody who advises people on what insurance plans are best for them and the rep made the signup really easy, ‘cause she did everything. I got United American's supplemental plan and they've been good for me for 10 years. They're dependable and I've never had any problems with getting things paid.

We're very happy with United American. Our broker recommended it when we signed up for Medicare. The customer service has been very good. If I have any kind of issue, I call and I can get an answer. My husband has been going through a lot of medical procedures and United American has been there and has worked with us on everything. And I tell doctors, if we get a bill, someone made a mistake. Our experience with United American has been fabulous. We're very satisfied and we recommend them to everybody we know who’s a senior because we don't ever get bills. They have never questioned anything and it's what insurance should be. With Medicare making cutbacks, our premium increased but it's manageable.
We're so happy to hear that your United American experience has been seamless! Thank you for your loyalty to United American Insurance Company.

I've been with United American for a lot of years now. It was recommended by a woman who we use as a consultant for our insurance policies, health plans, prescription plans and dental plans. She helped with the application process. I've spoken to other insurance companies, but nothing would make me leave United American. Probably my biggest discontent is how, each year, the premium goes up. The coverage with United American is getting more and more expensive, and I'm paying over $500 a month now for my coverage. I understand that I've had a lot of things going on with me medically, and costs are going up for them too. So, I understand why prices are going up. It's just I wish it was not as drastic as it's been.
I have a supplemental plan with United American that wraps around my Medicare. With my current plan, if Medicare covers something, United American also covers any deductible or co-pays, which has been very helpful. If Medicare doesn’t cover it, then I’m generally on my own, but usually if it’s not covered, I don’t proceed with it anyway because of the cost of living and being on Social Security. I did something for my wife earlier this year that wasn’t covered because it was cosmetic. United American has been very good overall. I receive statements every month and I go through them carefully, along with my Medicare statements, to make sure there's nothing on there that I don't know about. I’m very conscious about financial matters from my background as a former CFO of a small cruise line.
Edward, thank you for your detailed review about your experience with United American Insurance Company. We're glad to hear you're satisfied with your coverage. We will pass your comments about premiums to our team. Thank you for your feedback!

I am disappointed with United American. I switched my medigap insurance to them on January 1, 2026 seeking lower premiums from them vs. Florida Blue. After telling me their rates rarely change, they increased my premium by $50 monthly three months later. They also double charged me for my initial January premium when I switched from paying by check to bank draft payment. I have been dealing with customer service on this for 3 months now, with no resolution yet.

Only certain companies provided certain stuff when we were doing this years ago. United American Insurance was the one that had the plan that I needed. They have never refused to pay. However, I'm becoming less satisfied because they continue to raise the rates every year. My agent called and said they're going up, and they sent a letter saying it's going up, and it did. They no longer provide the plan that I have. If I get out of the plan, I can't get it back again. It's a far better plan than any of the current ones United American has. It's as if they're forcing me out of that plan so they don't have to support it anymore. They're trying to force people out of that to move into the different plans. More rate increase and I'll be gone.
John, we passed your feedback about premium increases along to our team. Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback about your experience, and for your kind rating. We look forward to serving you in the future and we appreciate you choosing United American.

I have my insurance through United American and I also have an annuity situation. My problem is they're separate. I receive regular statements and mailings from United American when I have a medical service that's provided, but I only get quarterly statements on my annuity. If I want to know what my annuity is at any given time, I have to call and it's an inconvenience, to say the least. There'll be moments when I've received a couple of mailings from them to tell me that I have to pay a provider and then I'm thinking, "Hmm, okay. Maybe the annuity has run low," and then I have to go through and call the annuity and check with them, and then they tell me yes or no or whatever. It's an inconvenience and I don't really understand why.
If United American can timely provide statements on a month-to-month basis, on services I've received, why I can't, in addition, get a month-to-month statement on my annuity and its current status rather than quarterly, where I have to try to gauge it and figure it out. And sometimes the problem is, if my annuity is in good shape and I've had services, I don't yet know, sometimes for days and weeks at a time. And it may not be United American's problem. It may be the result of the healthcare provider putting in a claim. But sometimes it's weeks or months later.
When the statement comes, it's like, "Oh, okay. Now, my annuity has been depleted." So, I find out after the fact. I don't know that it's necessarily always the problem of United American as opposed to the healthcare provider. Because healthcare providers have six months to put their claims in. So, that becomes a hassle too. Sometimes these claims, they put it in five months later. Depending on the year-to-year and how good my health is in a given year-to-year period, it's hard to keep track of all the services, and then five months later, here comes a bill and I'm like, "Wait a minute. First, I have to refresh my memory on that service."
If the annuity is involved, I have to call United American and say, "Okay, what's the status of my annuity? How much is in there? Has the annuity gone to zero? Is there going to be...?" It's an inconvenience and I just don't understand why if I can get monthly statements on services provided, I can't get monthly statements on my annuity. The other thing is I get these statements in advance of my anniversary time with United American to indicate what my premium is going to be for the following year and it always increases, which I'm not surprised by. But I've had some instances where in mid-year or three or four months into a year or seven or eight months into a year, I'll get an additional notice of a premium increase.

Updated review: April 30, 2026
This is an update from my original very negative March, 2026 review. I was surprised and delighted when the company reached out via email in response to my original review. After this initial email contact and my response to it, I received a call from a United American representative.
I am happy to report that my issues with United American are finally resolved, thanks to that wonderful United American representative, Deborah. She listened to my issues and understood my concerns. She worked with me and United American's Policy Services Department to arrange a payment schedule that works for both myself and the company. Things are back on track.
I've always said (and must repeat), if there are issues speak up. Contact the company and if that doesn't work, use other avenues that are open to you. I did so and am so very happy to have this issue resolved. Again, thank you Deborah and United American for hearing me and making things work.
Original Review: March 5, 2026
First, I have to say that if I could give this company negative or even 0 stars I would do so. Now to my commentary. I have a United American Medicare Supplemental plan and am extremely dissatisfied with the company's total lack of customer service and the fact that they just don't seem to care about the customer. I have had my premium payments drafted by the company automatically on a quarterly basis. My issue with them revolves around their notification letter for this year that detailed the new premium payments for this year. They've sent such a letter every year and have always stood by what was written, until this year. The payment amounts and schedules were detailed and I was told I could change the frequency of my payments. They stipulated that my next payment would be drafted from my account on April 1st.
I looked carefully at the information and saw that if I changed to a semiannual or annual payment schedule that I would save some money over the quarterly payment schedule I was on. I called the company to discuss this. I spoke with three people in the customer service department on two different occasions and they did not seem to think that their own stipulations mattered. They insisted that the money would be drafted from my account on March 1st no matter what their own letter stipulated. The representatives only offered an option after I insisted. The option was to work with their policy services department. The only problem? I could not speak to anyone in that department as they have no phone extension. I had a choice of sending a written complaint or letting the customer service rep do it for me which is what I did. I have heard nothing from the department in response to my complaint. It was a totally wasted effort, a waste of my time.
The company did what they wanted to do anyway and they took the money from my account on March 2nd, not the April 1st date stipulated in their letter. Again, to date I have had no communications from their supposed policy services department. No one at the company even had the courtesy to inform me that they had debited my account. I discovered this on a routine check on my accounts. I don't expect to hear anything from the company. This is not the way to run a company. This is not the way to treat customers.
We are very disappointed to read about your experience with your renewal and autodraft dates, and we would like to connect you with a supervisor who can look into your situation. Please send an email to eservicecenter@unitedamerican.com with the details provided here. Please accept our apology for the situation you encountered, and we hope to hear from you soon.

I purchased a Medicare plan through United American Insurance and applying with them was relatively easy. They were reasonable and they covered what I needed to have covered. I've only had to call them two times in the five years that I've had them and I didn't have any trouble contacting them. They answered the questions that I needed answered. Their plans are readily accepted, at least, in all the local hospitals that I attend to right now, and that it's accepted in all medical facilities. So far, I really haven't had any major issues or problems, which is good. But other than that, they have followed through on whatever coverage it is that they're supposed to cover. So, I'm very appreciative of that.

I have no doubt about the integrity of this underwriter BUT when it comes to Customer Service, I have noticed most are "working from home" (background noises) and quite frankly, not trained all that well to give all the answers. That means it's important to listen to what they're not saying fluently and/or hesitant to respond confidentially as an indication for potential misinformation. If you suspect that, it *really is helpful* to call more than once to make sure you're getting consistent answer from different persons.
After all, these are human beings on the other end of the phone in their own comfort zone at home (not robots) and they do have variable training and personal ethics--including emotional defects which sometimes gets in the way of an objective, constructive response when pushed for answers. I find UA Customer Service to need more "help" with accurate responses than other companies so expect the above more often that not here.
We always appreciate hearing about the experiences of our policyholders; such suggestions help us to improve. We have forwarded your comments to the appropriate departments. If we can assist you further, we hope you won't hesitate to contact a supervisor directly at eservicecenter@unitedamerican.com. Your satisfaction is very important to us.

I was talking to a private insurance person who was going over all my options when I was getting a supplemental insurance and she went over the different aspects of it. My husband had had AARP United but I wasn't real happy with his. He had to have referrals. I work in the medical field and it's rough, and his deductibles were outrageous. It was the F plan.
I thought of trying United American as I just wanted to go with straight Medicare. I signed up for it and my experience has been excellent. I don't have to do anything, I haven't had to call anybody, and all my bills are paid. I'm extremely satisfied with United American. The price has gone up and it went up another $50 a month. But just one of the injections that I get every two months is $1,000 that I have to pay so it pays for itself. I tell everybody that they need to look into the supplemental insurance and that I've had United American for quite a few years. I am so thankful that I've had it because it has helped me. My husband has to meet a 10,000 deductible and that hurts.
