In Feb. 2010, our garage was collapsed due to the blizzard and we had no problem with Allstate at that time. Three weeks later on March 9, 2010, I received a phone call that my home was on fire. I received the check for the garage in the mail that day and called the insurance company to appraise them of my home burning.
A salvage company was hired by Allstate to do a cleanup and salvage of our home, which had been condemned by the fire marshal. The company was continuously being pulled off our home to "do smaller, quicker jobs" and did not complete the cleanup until April. At that time, I called the inspector for Allstate to let him know they had completed cleanup. He did not go in in inspect the home until May. In the meantime, we found a home to rent and Allstate made the necessary arrangements and also made arrangements for furnishings under temporary housing. I then had to ask for money to begin replacing our belongings as we only had 180 days to replace or we would lose the money.
In August of 2010, I finally received a check for approximately $69,000 for "gut and rebuild" of our home, which I then forwarded to my mortgage company. I was unable to purchase the large appliances for our home at that time as I had no place to put them and consequently the 180 days expired for replacement. Along with the check was a letter which stated that if my contractor found anything additional to let Allstate know and they would allow more funds. I then found out that "Homeowner's Deluxe" does not cover code updates, that is a separate rider. My contractor also found that the roof had to be replaced from damage and contacted the inspector who basically told him we had gotten all the money we were going to get and they were not going to do anything else.
Also, because of the length of time to get the funds for rebuild, we had to start paying the rent for the rental home of $1000 per month, as Allstate stated we had exhausted our"housing money". I spoke with Allstate last week who defended the inspector and never could give me a reason or excuse for him taking him so long to get us us money, why they washed their hands on us when more damage was found and basically swept us under the rug. Because of the cost incurred to us having to pay rent, we could not also afford our $1100 per month mortgage and our home was foreclosed on last week and I am still homeless/displaced. I was not able to replace my belongings because of no place to store them and I have lost 51 years of my life basically and Allstate doesn't care.

Control inspected my attic and said that the insulation must be removed and total clean out due to the Hazmat nature.
I understand that they won't pay to clean it or replace the insulation due to the Hazmat problem. Now I have other damage from the raccoons because they chewed on wood wires and walls. Because of that, they entered the house in November of 2011 and this has been going on for this long and I just now last week called Allstate about it. They won't pay anything but the hole of entry and the Owen Animal Control. Again, big deal, $300. The problem is I'm only home 20% of the time. I thought I had insurance so I didn't have to worry about things. I thought I was in good hands.

I recently closed on a house back in November. First week into the New Year, I received a call from my local agent saying that my insurance will be dropped towards the end of the month because the exterior of the house was not able to be inspected. The agent checked into the matter after we spoke and she said that someone came to the house around the end of October but was told I never lived there. Well, of course not, that is the reason I was purchasing the house! She also asked if I was doing a re-write. I have no idea what that means--Allstate knew I was purchasing a house. I was in contact with them for an estimate.
Today, I received a check in the mail reimbursing my money that I just gave them. They are supposed to be doing another inspection with accurate directions to the house. I have no idea when they will be inspecting (whether before or after I get dropped). If they are re-inspecting the house, why would Allstate send me my money back?

I received a letter around Christmas over a roof on a shed that had a hole in it. I spent over 2 grand to redo the entire roof on the shed. I called to get an inspector out to keep my policy from being canceled. I was told by the pictures I sent to them that all was good now on my roof but, unless I added my auto insurance to the policy, they will cancel me out on the 31st of January. How crooked and shame on them. That is horrible!

Purchasing a home in November 2011, I received a "surprise" Allstate home inspection. The following month I was sent a Homeowners Policy cancellation letter in the mail. It gave me approximately 30 days to install an outdoor handrail in the middle of February (in PA), 7 of which I was scheduled to be out of town. The letter states that they "encourage me to obtain insurance coverage elsewhere". I had paid the premium for the entire year up-front.
Post-inspection, I was never given information regarding the inspection results nor the courtesy of informing me what items needed to be brought up to their specifications. Since Tillson Insurance Agency had not made any attempt to contact me with any concerns from the inspection, I assumed all was well. It was a big mistake. I now have to come up with $1200.00 in the next couple weeks to hire a contractor. I have a 50 foot railing installed on outdoor flagstone patio stairs that are not even used to enter into my home.

While on vacation, we were robbed and upon returning, we filed a police report and turned into my All State Renters Insurance. The long and short story of the situation is that 9 thousand and change was estimated by their computer and I was sent a list of items that had what percent was to be paid to me being 3 thousand and change. I was told that I had $80.00 deductible and that any receipt would subtract that amount but after turning in $1500.00 worth of receipts, I was re-issued a check for 3 hundred and change being pro-rated from what I was paid the first time. I had over 23 thousand dollars worth of guns and guitars stolen and instead of treating me like a school kid and holding back the estimated value, All State is playing a shell game and doling out the estimated total.
They are giving me 180 days to use up to the total of 9 thousand and change but only giving me 1/5 of receipts value which would take me spending a hell of a lot more money over and above the remaining 6 thousand and change to be given out payments in increments instead of just giving me the estimated total and let me go about my way of replacing what I could from what was given. I am leaving All State and after 10 years, I am not being told about a rider and all the talk out of the side of their mouth being told different things from agent, the insurance claim office and the different people I have talked to there.

Sounds like several other folks have had the same issue.
In April 2011 at 1:30 am, we had a feeder line burst in an upstairs bathroom flooding the lower level (family room, bathroom, laundry room and storage closet). We stopped the water and cleaned up the 2 inches of standing water downstairs. In the morning we called Allstate to initiate a claim. They asked for the feeder line which we provided. Allstate was able to file against the manufacturer and received all but $6400 back. The adjuster minimized items so low we had to go back 3 times to adjust and still had to do 80% of the work ourselves.
They would not replace the soaked carpet; they said clean it and restretch. $90 for a 21x14 room (it was over 20 years old and fell apart as we tried to move it; we replaced all the floors at our own expense). The biggest payout was to Servpro, which they sent out and they paid directly after 9 days of hell for us. Servpro cut holes out of our walls and ceilings, cut carpet padding in half and had to come out several times to add dryers.
It took us 6 months to replace drywall, flooring, paint, etc. as they paid so minimal I had to do the majority of the work. Within 6 months (right after they took the renewal money from our escrow) they sent us a letter that an inspector was coming to see if there was any issues on the outside of our house that needed to be fixed or they "would drop us" (after they got the next premium that raised rates more than $200). A message was left on my office phone that this inspector found moss (we live in WA) on an outbuilding and per the local Allstate rep (Andrew H.) this was a minor problem.
As we were going on vacation I figured it would wait until we returned. By the time I got back there was another message from Andrew saying we needed to fix the problem or could be dropped. We cleaned it and sent them multiple pictures. They then said we needed to send a picture at the same angle the inspector took (as we had no idea they had to send us a pic) to close the case (Andrew H). Heard nothing more.
Yesterday, I saw a man taking pictures of our house from across the street (no notification from Allstate). Another Allstate inspector! He said he was sent to take pictures of not just the outbuilding but now another area. They are now saying the previous inspector had also identified moss on another roof—the carport. We were never told about another area. When I went up on the roof the moss was so minimal I almost laughed (but I was too mad). Horrible, horrible insurance company!
If they wanted to drop us they should have just told us instead of putting us thru 3 months of **! By the way, I wonder what they do with thatch or grass roofs. I have since called and dropped them and went with someone else. Now I have to wait for 8 months refund. Their attitude when I called is "it is what it is". Horrible, horrible insurance company! By the way, Andrew sent us a letter today asking us to bundle our homeowners and auto---it even had a personal note wishing us a happy holiday! Are they kidding?

In July of 2011, I was woke up by fire alarms screaming through my house at 8 in the morning. I was asleep in the den, so I ran out to find that our office was engulfed in flames. I woke my brother by yelling and he woke my parents. We ran out of that house in nothing but our underwear. This was our second house fire and we thought we'd just never have any luck with owning a house. The first time was years before that due to a faulty oven. This time, when I ran out and seen the fire, I noticed that the window unit ac in our office and the wall/ceiling above that was on fire. Comforted by our family and friends that morning, my parents called our insurance company, Allstate, and explained what happened.
Our adjuster, James, was at the scene the following morning. When we arrived, he had already went through the house and determined that it was repairable. The inside of the house and the roof would have to be gutted and the only thing original would be the outside walls. He wrote a check for living expenses for us to find a hotel and for food/clothes. About a week later, Allstate assigned a "professional fire investigator" to come investigate the scene. He had no idea what he was doing. He started by pointed at a plug-in where our computer used to be saying that's where the fire started, and I corrected him saying nothing on that side of the room was afire. A little while later, he said that the breaker box is definitely what caused the fire. I corrected him again. He ended up taking the window unit for inspection. (There wasn't much left of it, seeing as how it literally exploded out of the window the morning of the fire).
Now this is where it really gets interesting. The next day of his investigation, he brings in an "electrical expert" who dissects the air conditioner and a little heater that we kept in the office for winter. It's July so my parents and little brother go to get some water from town while I stay at the scene. This fire investigator comes up to me and asks where we kept our gasoline. I told him in the backyard with the lawnmower but it was in the front yard earlier that we because we mowed. He said that in the office under the window, there was gasoline poured all over the floor. I was shocked.
When my parents got back, he asked my mom if she could find the gas can so he could "inspect" it. The firefighters took it to the neighbors house the morning of the fire. She hands it to him and he mysteriously walks behind the house with it for a few minutes, then comes back and says put it back where it came from. He then goes back around the house and comes back with a clear McDonald's cup with a bit of gas in it. He told us that our house was set on fire. He asked my dad to smell the area where this "gasoline" was. Dad didn't smell gasoline, but the floor was damp. This raised lots of questions. First of all, the floor wasn't on fire that morning.
Second of all, there were 5 or 6 or the clear cups around, because my cousin brought us water after the fire that morning from the local McDonalds. Seems suspicious, huh? Since July, Allstate has continued to call and question my family and anyone affiliated with us that could give them a reason to deny our claim. Today is their last day before our attorney files a lawsuit. They've stopped paying our rental furniture payments and stopped paying the rent for the house that we currently live in. If they deny our claim for this false arson, my family will not have a Christmas or a house to live in come 2012.

But now I see it was a lure to suck you in, then when I found progressive ins, and canceled with Allstate. They try to run my charges into next month, I call them and it was suppose to be cleared up, a month later I get a collection letter for $30.00 more and hassling phone calls, someone needs to check out this consumer gouging, beware of Allstate in, they are not what they say.

Allstate offered me $400 when one of their policy holders knocked the bumper off my car. It is hanging on by 1 bolt. They claimed "prior damage" due to a small, quarter-sized scuff on the bumper, and reduced the amount owed from $1,100 to $400. The scuff was a $700 incident of prior damage. My car is cannot be driven, and the $400 they offer, will not pay for a bumper, even an unpainted one, to be put on my car. Good hands? More like hands in my pockets! Allstate is a company of thieves. Since I cannot replace my bumper, they are going to take away my rental car, and force me to drive a car that is unsafe, and potentially hazardous to other motorists.

I had filed a claim on my homeowners policy because we had a bad storm and water got into the basement and damaged the freezer causing me to lose the freezer and all contents. This is the second bad situation I have had with Allstate and I guarantee that I will be changing my homeowners insurance.

The owner of the home, per my attorney would be the one who is responsible, and Allstate is the homeowners insurance, and they refuse to pay.
I want them to pay on claim **. Also, the workers trespassed on my property, and went on my roof without permission from me. Trying to camouflage the damages.

I spoke with a representative to transfer my insurance coverage for two motorcycles from Progressive Insurance to Allstate because the quote that I received would have saved me $ 20/month. I was quoted and told one thing but the total opposite happened. I was told that my first payment would come out of my account on 11/28 for $158 and each month thereafter would be $131 on the 28th of each month. The rep also emailed me a letter stating this same information. I received an email from Allstate stating that they will be withdrawing $288.28 from my account on the 28th. This was for two months and I was told that there would be a total of $158 coming out.
Well, what happened was my policy was scheduled to start on 11/01 although I still had Progressive. When I called the rep and received the quote on 10/24/11, I told the rep that I was not going to switch that soon because I had coverage with Progressive until some time in November. I was not about to pay double for coverage that I already had. The representative told me that if I signed up with her on the date in October that I would only pay the $158 on 11/28 and $131 thereafter (and sent me an email confirming the date and amount to be deducted from my account).
This is not right and it definitely isn't fair. If that was the case I would not have started my coverage with Allstate until after my policy had ended with Progressive. Apparently, the rep told me incorrect information and sent the information to me in writing. Allstate in a multimillion dollar company and they're coming after me for a mistake of their representative. This is wrong and highly unethical! "You're in good hands with Allstate", definitely not!

These stories are all the same: pay and pay all your premiums and the insurance company drops you because they want to either re-write your policy if you've had it a while and have never defaulted on payments so its cheap, or you file a claim and they drop you or want to rewrite your policy. Everyone should know that when this happens. It is within your rights to file a claim with the insurance department in your state. They are responsible for keeping the insurance companies honest and fairly dealing with claims and policy holders. If you think something looks suspicious, don't just roll over and take it - do something about it. Only then will the big insurance industry bring down premiums and start to once again back their policyholders instead of their politicians and lobbyists.

We had insurance with Allstate for 16 years. After filing a roof damaged by hail claim, we received about 25% of the money it takes to replace the roof. Allstate told us to find a company to replace the roof and we will receive the rest when the job was finished. We sent at least five companies to Allstate to replace the roof. Allstate low balled all of the companies we sent to them and we ended up not getting the roof replaced. Afterward, they dropped us due to they said it was some paint peeling on the house without ever giving us a chance to repair. Shame on you Allstate (the bad hand people).

Absolutely horrible! They issued a policy and canceled it one week later after they made up a fictitious name and stated that person could not be insured. That was the reason for cancellation. They then refused to correct the mistake and had the agent re-write the policy at a much higher premium and refused to do any adjusting. I have certainly cancelled them and found insurance much less than the original policy that canceled with another carrier!
Allstate has underhanded practices. They break the law to stay within the limits of it and screw the consumer in the process. They know what the law says in each state and know that they can only cancel for certain reasons. In my case they made up something and canceled based on that, even though it was wrong. I also see this is common practice after reading the complaints here. I declare a class action suit needs to brought against them.

I received a letter a few months ago stating my insurance may not be renewable and no reason. I called my agent to ask what was going on. I never got a call back! Today, I get a letter stating our homeowners insurance is not renewable because they have not been able to do an exterior evaluation of our home. We had one person come 8 months or so ago unannounced at our door in a private vehicle wanting to poke around our property. We couldn't verify who she was, so didn't allow it. I called my agent and days later, he called to say someone was coming to do this. No one ever told us or called us to ask when they would come by.
Since that time, no one had ever asked or attempted to come inspect our property again. This is complete garbage but a blessing in disguise. I''m very unsatisfied with David ** and Allstate and would not recommend them to anyone based on the way they do business. We are happy to get homeowner's insurance from someone else.
I hope you enjoy your unemployment, I'm not sure why you are firing customers that pay bills on time every month. You have done nothing and changed nothing. I had water damage to the back wall of my laundry room that I was unaware of because there were boxes stacked up against that wall while we are moving. The sprinkler system in the backyard was broken and had been spraying water onto the back of the laundry room wall and running down inside the window then soaking the insulation and the wall. It had also gotten into the laundry room and wet the carpet that the boxes were sitting on. I noticed that the floor was wet and started to move the boxes to find out where the leak was and to my astonishment, the boxes were wet and the wall had mildew and mold on it. I tried to file a claim with Allstate and they said that the claim would be taken and approved for water damage and property loss. I had to wait a week for the adjuster to come out to inspect the damage.
In the meantime, I had a disaster relief team clean all the mold and mildew up and tear out the carpet along with the damaged wall and insulation. The adjuster came out and measured the room and downloaded the pictures I took of the incident. He told me that he would talk to his manager about the claim but that since there was mold and mildew, the claim would probably be denied asserting that it was an ongoing problem and that I should have noticed it sooner. I don't know how I was supposed to know that the sprinkler was broken and that it was soaking that part of the house until I saw the water on the carpet. Well he talked to his manager and told me that the manager said that this was an ongoing problem stating that it was called normal wear and tear on the house so that they were going to refuse the claim and I would be left to fix the damage myself.
Well now, I have to pay the disaster people and I am left with fixing the wall, the carpet, and losing my personal property for an insurance company that says they will take care of you no matter what. It's a disgusting lie. How can they take your money and leave you high and wet in this case.

My husband and I recently purchased a home which required us to shop around for homeowner’s insurance. We spoke to multiple insurance agencies to get price quotes, and through competitive pricing we selected Allstate. Once we closed on the house I received a letter from Allstate stating that our home value had increased by approximately $62,000 causing our premiums to increase significantly. I contacted our Allstate representative to get an explanation since I thought a letter in the mail was not good customer service, and that I needed an explanation since we had an appraisal on the house during closing. The representative explained that a sight visit was required, and during their inspection they determined that the replacement costs would be higher than what Allstate originally quoted me. I requested a copy of the inspection, and that I wanted to know the process of how to rebut the increase.
Approximately two weeks later I still did not have a copy of the inspection but received a letter stating that our replacement costs have been re-evaluated, and determined that the replacement costs would only increase by $40,000. Then 2 days later we received another quote that our premiums had increased again. Since we had only been with Allstate for 2 months and our premiums were constantly changing we decided to shop for a more reliable agency. Once we did price comparisons and spoke to multiple agencies about our situation, we decided to change (all agencies stated that the value of the home should not have changed so drastically since we had an appraisal done valuing the house around the homeowner’s coverage requested). When we called our representative about cancelling the policy we were notified that we would have to cover the highest premiums quoted. Even though I do not think we should have to cover the highest premiums for the months we were insured with Allstate I wanted to cease all business actions with them. However, it has now been over 20 days and we still have not received our refund from cancellation. I am so disappointed in Allstate’s lack of customer service and professionalism.

I am contacting you regarding the recent activity on my Allstate insurance claim. In September 2011, my basement sustained a large amount of water damage. Allstate sent adjustor Thomas ** out to my home to survey the damage. On this date, I received the written claim which states that I am to be given $11,669.04 in order to repair my basement to its condition prior to the storms. The event was classified as water damage. I specifically advised Thomas that water entered the basement through the french doors & the 90 degree elbow disconnect from the pvc pipe which recycled water through the sump pump.
-The entire basement area will need 2 coats of paint to be repaired as it is 10 years old. The estimator only quoted 1 coat.
-The ceiling tiles had warped from the humidity & moisture. These would have to be replaced. The estimator did not address the ceiling.
-I have 15 recessed lights placed in my ceiling. An electrician would have to come in to properly reset once replacement ceiling was put in.
As none of this was included on the original claim, I contacted Allstate to send Thomas back out for further review & possible increase in funds on my claim. At that time I was told that Thomas is no longer working in my area & once they could send me a new adjustor they would contact me. Two weeks later Caid ** came out to our home to address our concerns. Caid took a quick look at our basement & proceeded to go out to his vehicle for the next half hour. He came back into our home & advised that we were not covered under our policy & if it was him conducting the initial assessment we never would have been awarded the $11,000. We got our agent John ** on the phone & proceeded to debate what our policy included and did not. It became quickly apparent that John & Caid were not on the same page as to what we were paid for, what was available to us here in Virginia and what monetary amount Allstate would provide.
Since this I have been on the phone with Allstate several times & each employee has become ruder than the next:-Caid (adjustor#2) advised that we were not going to receive any further funds than we already had received ($6800) & that we should consider it a "gift".
John (our agent)-advised we were fully covered by VA standards and that the water backup coverage Caid refers to is not available in Virginia.
When I attempted to add this coverage (for future) via the website (and as Caid was standing next to me) it allowed me to do so.
-The next day Crystal in customer service emailed that I did already have the needed water backup coverage policy in question.
-This evening another employee called me from customer service to discuss & the end result was the employee advising they did not care if I escalated the matter.
At this point, it is obvious that there are several inconsistencies in what we are being told & the issue is becoming more confusing by the day. Bottom line, I was told almost 2 months ago that I had full coverage & now suddenly I am told I should not have received a cent. The error is theirs not mine. Please confirm whether you are able to intervene.

To begin with, we had a similar experience as one of the other consumers. While I was out in my yard, quite a bit away from the entrance gate, two men waltzed up from the highway, through the bushes, and toward my front door. My wife was startled and somewhat apprehensive as to who these guys were! She called for me and they announced that they were from Allstate and were there for an "inspection". I told them that I didn't appreciate how they came on my property unannounced. They took offense and said, "Do you want us to leave? " I said, "No, just do what you have to do and go."
Later that afternoon, my wife called our agent to complain about this "method" and he assured us he would "handle" it. A couple of months after that, we received a cancellation letter stating that we were being dropped because we had some "moss" on our roof. Of course this is totally ridiculous and we definitely feel that we were cancelled due to the complaint we made about the "inspectors" sneaking up on our property. They obviously got offended, angry, whatever and decided to get the ball rolling to cancel us, which they did!
We filed a claim due to storm damage (wind, hail) to our roof and now, we can't even get a repair even though our policy has not expired yet. To tell all about the experience we just had with the "adjuster" would take a couple more pages. So, I will end this here and hope that you get the gist. I do want to add, however, that the "adjuster" and her cohort damaged my roof even more and now I am left with more problems. We have always paid our premiums and never filed a claim with them.

I just had the same experience that the gentleman from Virginia had regarding a "safety" inspection. I have been insured by Allstate at this same location for nearly 25 years and have never had to have an inspection before. I asked my agent what it was all about and he gave me two different stories that had no connection to the wording in the letter. I told my agent that the inspectors were not welcome on my property until I was given a real reason for the inspection and that they had to schedule their inspection with me so I could be present. They just showed up today without notice while I was away at work. My wife told them that they were not allowed on our property without me being present. We will see where this goes.

On September 16, 2011, a claim was initiated through Allstate claim processor center. On October 13, 2011, my claim was denied because of no coverage. My problems are as stated.
(1) I wasn't sure how to translate the policy jargon. To a lay person it is meaningless talk. So my first question was do I have any coverage for a stolen air conditioner? Why would I even consider filing a claim on something that is not covered? (2) The question was never answered because they did not have access to my policy, but a claim has to be initiated for further investigation, which meant that the person was not qualified to assist me. (3) After the initiation of the claim began, I received several follow-up calls from Allstate requesting additional information such as estimates. The calls were very irritating because I was continually receiving message like I was being harassed and was past due with a bill. Also, I was asked the same questions over and over again. (4) The claim was denied for no coverage. Which was the question I asked initially and never received an answer. Do I have coverage for a stolen air conditioner? Sorry, Allstate, that question took only one minute to answer. Wasted manpower, misuse of funds and wasted time.
Over the years insurance companies has made several adjustments. I can remember the time when claims were handled more efficiently and effectively. When you don’t have coverage for a particular incident, I believe a claim is filed by an insurance company to tarnish your insurance record, justify paying the claims adjustors, and the 1-800 number operating. This is a serious waste of money in the insurance system and one day, I believe, they will reap their harvest. Insurance policies are very confusing to consumer and consumer education is very important. Consumers, beware of the money spent with fancy advertisement and commercials. It’s only a cover up. There is a serious problem within this organization.

I recently received a call to bundle our Allstate home and Auto insurance. The home is with Allstate, while the auto is with Geico. We turned them down. In less than two weeks, we received a letter from Allstate informing us that an agent will be visiting our property to look for hazards. They also stated that we do not need to be home for this inspection because it is outside. We feel that this is not a coincidence--all of a sudden, receiving this letter. We have been with Allstate over 40 years and never heard of such socialistic practices.

I have been with Allstate for 14 years and have never put a claim in previously. I have (had) a finished basement. On 8/27/11, during Hurricane Irene, a PVC elbow pipe attached to the far end of our sump pump at the wall burst. It caused water to continuously spurt out of the crack, preventing its evacuation from the house. The water simply redistributed back into the basement over the entire evening causing severe water damage. When my wife called the Middletown, DE office at (302) 449-0200, she was redirected to a response team and spoke to an agent named Lindsey. My wife told her that a pipe had broken on the sump pump causing a lot of water damage and also causing the pump to burn out. Lindsey reviewed our policy and told my wife that we were covered for the damage minus the deductible. She also said not to make any immediate major repairs, but we should fix the pipe and the pump and have the water removed and cleaned up. We just needed to keep all of our receipts.
I called Miller Heating and Cooling Company. They immediately came to the house, replaced the broken pipe, and put in a temporary sump pump to keep the water from overflowing, which it did. I then called a Rainbow International-a restoration crew for the cleanup. They were scheduled to come on Friday, 9/2/11. I again called the Middletown Allstate office on 8/31/11 prior to make sure we were covered for the damage. I stated what happened and my policy was reviewed over the phone. I was told that I was covered for the damage and that I would only be charged the $250 deductible.
On Friday, 9/2, the restoration crew came and cleaned the water and removed the damaged drywall, insulation, electronics, toys, furniture, shelves, etc. On Saturday, September 3rd, I received a call from Allstate by a person named Gregory **. He stated that according to his information, I would not be covered for the damage to the basement because I don’t have a sewer, water backup endorsement. This was shocking as I have never heard of such an endorsement and I was never informed that one existed. I have Deluxe, Deluxe Plus Homeowners Policy and spare no expense to protect my home. If I would had been made aware that such an endorsement existed, I would have paid for it and added it to my policy. I certainly was not offered it and I never signed any waiver stating I do not want such coverage.
On Monday, September 5th, Bob ** (sp?) the adjustor, came to assess the damage. I provided him with pictures of the damage, a picture of the broken pipe, the bill from the plumber (stating that there was a crack in the pipe and had to be replaced), my original basement proposal, and my list of damages. I was told by Bob ** (sp?) that a broken pipe was indeed covered under my policy. And he held out his hands and said not to worry, we were in good hands with Allstate. Three days later, I contacted Mr. ** who then changed his tune and said it's a gray area and we might not be covered. A week later, I was officially told that my claim was denied. The reason given was this gray area. And the broken pipe was attached to my sump pump, which is not covered under my policy and would only fall under that sewer, water backup endorsement. I contacted my local agent Mr. Roland ** and reviewed my case again. He stated that if I was told that I was covered by 2 different people, then I should be covered. But on his end, there is nothing further he could do.
I feel that this is ridiculously unfair and I feel cheated. I also feel that Allstate looked for a reason not to cover my damage. Now, due to this denial, I am stuck with a $4,000 bill from the restoration crew, a crew I would not have hired if I weren't told on two occasions that I was covered for the damages. I also now cannot afford to repair the damage to my basement. My once completely finished basement is now in shambles. Two feet of drywall along with the insulation needed to be cut out. The molding was removed. The furniture was ruined. The rugs and flooring were removed and my children's toys were destroyed. In closing, Allstate says that I am not covered because of a broken pipe (that three different representatives from Allstate said I am covered for). But it was attached to a sump pump that isn’t covered due to some "sewer water backup endorsement", that I was never told about and never signed any declaration denying that coverage.
In order to pursue this further, I put in a claim with the Delaware Department of Insurance on 9/12/11. I was told that Allstate had to respond within 21 calendar days. On October 3, 2011, Allstate had not replied. And when contacted by the Department of Insurance, their excuse was they never received it. On October 11, 2011, Allstate denied the claim a second time for the same reasons given originally. When asked what I could do, I was told to file an error and omissions form with my local Allstate office. When I contacted that office again, they had no such form and directed me to call 1-800-255-7828. I was put in contact with a representative and bounced from one department to another as no one had ever heard of such a form.
I then proceeded to contact a Mr. John ** (inside adjustor) to pursue an error and omissions form for my case. He expressed that this was an appropriate avenue to pursue. And he also felt that errors were made in being told so many times that we were covered and then having that decision backpedaled. On 10/13/11, after not hearing anything further, I called the 800 number again and par for the course with Allstate. No one knew what we were talking about. They suggested that I speak with a Chad **, a claims adjustor manager. I called and left a message explaining the situation with no return call back from him.
I called the 800 number a third time and spoke with Mr. ** again. He gave me the names and numbers of 3 additional people to contact - a Mr. Gary **, a Ms. Lynn **, and a Mr. Chuck ** - all of who I have left messages with. No one has had the courtesy to return my calls. On 10/15/11, I yet again called the 800 number and this time I spoke with a Mr. Ryan **. He saw the trail of phone calls that have been made and once again I explained my case. He reported that he was going to speak with his supervisor and put in the errors and omissions claim. On 10/16/11, I received a phone call from a Mr. John ** (sp?) as I have also filed a grievance through the Better Business Bureau. I was informed by Mr. ** that this error and omissions form is only for errors in policy writing. When I explained my case, he basically said that while he will investigate it further, I should not expect this claim to be put through. Allstate isn't accountable in any way. While Mr. ** was courteous on the phone, the lack of respect that I feel I have been given as a customer in this entire situation is uncalled for.
While I understand the policy/contract reason the claim was denied (not having the proper endorsement), when do the insurance companies become accountable for not properly informing their customers of all the coverage they may need? In the 14 years I have been an Allstate customer, I have only heard from them in writing when there has been an agent change (3 times) and when my policy is up for renewal. Even then, it is a declarations page and nothing more. When I finished the basement in 2005, I called Allstate to inform them. Still, no mention of a water/sewer back up endorsement was ever made. I also understand that as a homeowner, I am responsible to know my coverage. But when no one ever tells me what might be available to protect my investment, my hands are tied.

I filed a claim for hail damage here in Saint Louis after the May 25th storms.
The first adjuster came out and after introducing himself and handing me their claim folder, he stated that he was not replacing the roof without even looking at it. He then told the roofer that he wasn't replacing the roof before going up there. The adjuster never went up; the roofer showed the pictures on a laptop and then said that he would use binoculars to inspect the roof, on a two and a half story house on a rise with a Spanish tile roof, no less. He told me that they would replace tiles at the rate of two tiles for each broken one.
I complained to my agent and the following week, the original adjuster came back with his manager and two younger guys to meet with the roofer. I wasn't home for this, but the roofer commented that the manager's attitude was totally negative from the start. So, the roofer puts up a ladder and the two younger guys go up with him to the edge of the roof. I was told that their comment was that the roof need to be removed and reset. When they came down, the manager pulled the two younger guys off to the side. They talked and then he comes to my roofer and states that there were 14 broken tiles per square and that he would replace them at 1.5 to 1, but they would pay to replace the garage roof which is asphalt shingles.
I went to complain at my agent once again about how the adjuster's are not going to the main roof and ignoring their own people's recommendation. He calls and now I have been talking to the catastrophe center in Mobile, Alabama. They are standing firm on the idea that a Spanish tile roof can be piecemealed in and that all the tiles do not need to be pinged to check for cracks. I am now trying to decide if they can be trusted to stand behind my agent's statement that they will pay for all repairs once the roofer go up there or start the arbitration process of each party getting a professional appraisal and then going to a referee.
I got an estimate from one of the roofing companies and they would not even consider doing it the Allstate's way. They said that it was unprofessional to not check all the tiles and they need to remove the tiles to do that.
I don't consider the removal and resetting of the roof a replacement; they will only be replacing the broken and cracked tiles while reusing the good ones that are already there. I really feel like I am being boxed in a corner here without my hope of getting made whole to say the least.
Hopefully, Allstate reads this site and realizes that when my policy comes up for renewal both my homeowners and multi-car policy are gone.
How can you have adjusters coming up with repair estimates when they don't even go up on the roof? Plus the adjuster's attitude are total crap. I am a homeowner trying to get my roof fixed right not rip them off. I think it is time to file a complaint with the state insurance commission as well.

We got our homeowner's insurance through Allstate in December 2007. Allstate set the coverage amounts on everything and we were comfortable with it. We had $120,000 on the structure, $72,000 on contents. We paid our premium every month, on time, for almost 4 years. On August 2, 2011, I had a fire. The firemen said the house was a "total loss". The structure adjuster came out and looked at the house, took pictures and then told me that occasionally, the insurance would repair the house but in his opinion, it could not be repaired. He told me he didn't have the final say, but he was going to recommend that it be demolished.
Around the 8th of September, I contacted the Allstate adjuster to find out what was going on with my claim. I was informed that they felt the house was repairable and they would be issuing a check in the amount of $97,000 and he would call me back that Friday to tell me when they would issue a check. I didn't hear from him so the following Thursday, the 15th, I called him again and I was told that they would issue a check for $95,100 and some change. I asked him what happened to the $97,000 and he said "we never had that conversation"! He then told me they were going to issue a check in the amount of $45,000 that would be payable to my late husband, myself, the realtor that held my mortgage and the bank where the mortgage was.
I asked him why would they do that and if they paid it to the bank, how was I going to be able to "repair" my home? He told me I didn't have to repair my house, it was my choice, but that they would only pay the $95,100. The adjuster said that he didn't feel the bank would "take" the money, that they had no reason to! I told them that was not acceptable and I ended the conversation. Two days later, I received the $45,000 check in the mail. I held on to the check for nearly a month but finally, I had to take it to the realtor who continually called me asking why I haven't brought it in yet. So the bank took the money and it paid off the mortgage.
A week later, I called the adjuster and asked him how do I get the remaining $50,100? He told me that once I find a house to buy, get a signed contract and fax it to him. Once he received it, he'd issue the remaining funds to the realtor. On Saturday, September 24th, I signed a contract to purchase the house for $49,000 and that day, the realtor faxed it to Allstate. On Monday the 26th, I got an inspection on the house and we were set to close on 09/30/2011. On Tuesday the 27th, I called Allstate to make sure they had received the contract and to ask when they would be sending the remaining $50,000? I was then informed that since they already paid $45,000 and the house I am purchasing is $49,000, they would be issuing another check in the amount of $4000! So as of today's date, I'm out of a house, any money and all my belongings.

I have been here three years, Allstate had no problem giving me coverage when I bought the house. I have never filed a homeowner’s claim until now! We contacted a contractor/restoration company to have them assess the damage, and assist with the major cleanup. The company informed us that this was the worst incident he has seen in almost seven years. My whole finished basement had to be gutted down to the foundation walls, and floors due to the fact that this was sewage water and there was a severe risk of disease. We lost everything; our furnace, washer and dryer and all appliances that were in the basement of our home, including everything in our family room and home office.
We had BGE Home come out to assess the damage to our appliances, and they informed us that all appliances had to be replaced due to the flood and flooded gas lines. After several days of hard work and several missed days of work, my wife and I created an Excel spreadsheet detailing our losses and values. Our claims adjuster, Jan informed us after reviewing our inventory spreadsheet, that they were sending out two separate checks, one to cover the mitigation and rebuild of the structure and one to cover loss of personal property.
Two days later, Jan notified us that the claim was being closed and re-opened due to a discrepancy of $3,000 with the quote we received from BGE Home and what Allstate considered was fair for our furnace. What? So, all of the hard work and hours put into doing their job has gone to waste due to the fact they cannot agree on a quote from BGE to replace our furnace? So now Allstate is sending a claims adjuster out to the house to assess the damages. Mind you, this has already been done; everything has been gutted and is now in a 25 feet dumpster in my driveway!
My wife and I have been paying homeowner's insurance and auto insurance through Allstate for 10 years now. We have never filed a claim through them until now. This is totally unacceptable and has caused so much unwarranted additional stress and aggravation to an already horrible situation.
Allstate claims to be a great insurance company when they are collecting your checks, but the minute that you need to actually file a claim, they do not rise to the occasion. We insured auto, home and property with Allstate. We told the agent in the Allstate office we needed business coverage as we operate two businesses out of our shop. He told us we were good to go, we paid the premiums for years faithfully.
In March of 2009, we had a fire in our large shop. I called our Allstate agent and left messages. He never called back. After three days, an adjuster showed up and denied coverage stating that we were covered under a residential policy, not business.
This was a shock to us as our agent assured us that we were covered for business. Then Allstate dragged their feet for the better part of a year to cover our personal property that was lost. We hired a lawyer to help us and suddenly they wanted to speed up the claims process. We were able to settle on personal property but were still denied coverage for the main loss, damage to the structure. Three attorneys told us that we would win a suit against Allstate, but it would cost us more than it would bring in.
To top this all off, Allstate cancelled our policy! They then had the nerve to call us this year asking if there was any way to win our business back. Kind of akin to being asked for a kiss after being raped!

1. He is always refusing to make the requested changes to my policy. He states that changes would mean that he has to write a new policy and he cannot do so since Allstate is not accepting any new policies in the state of Connecticut.
2. In writing, he attempted to make me seek a new insurance carrier, which is a violation of the insurance rules and regulations (I advised him of the violation).
3. He refuses to send me a printout of the rebuild cost of my home he states that he has obtained ($167,500 rebuild cost figure is on my 2006 inflated appraisal). I found a rebuild cost calculator online and input all the details about my home (1920 952 sq. ft. bungalow) and sent him the results with an amount to rebuild cost at $104,000 plus change).
4. I started questioning the square footage coverage. Somewhere in the Allstate inspection of my home, Paul ** stated to me that additional sq. ft. was found (1,000 additional sq. ft.). I have been overcharged due to this deception since 2006 and may still be overcharged had I not alerted him on the information that I saw from Meriden GIS Web Site. Although he states that he has made appropriate corrections in my policy, he will not send me the evidence. I can't even obtain a copy of the inspection report of 2006.
5. Each year at renewal time, the same scenario (No. 3 above) is experienced. I always get a higher than reality renewal amount (last time, it was $818.00 decreased by $200+) and once I call him and email him, I finally get a new lower amount of payment. He refuses to send me the updated documentation, though. He always relies on the repeated statement of rebuild costs but never provides me evidence on how he calculates the rebuild cost (never changes year after year). This is a year after year after year experience with this company/agent.
6. Recently, I requested that he removed Wells Fargo as a payee on my policy. I also asked him to add my name, Kim ** as an alternative. He refused to do so even though I already advised him that Wells Fargo has no financial interest in my home. My note (separated from mortgage) was included in Citigroup Mortgage Loan Trust Asset. The Pooling and Servicing Agreement indicates Wells Fargo to act as servicer; hence, no financial interest.

Hail damaged my home on June 7, 2011. The roof was damaged, and there was water damage on the ceiling in the bathroom. I filed a complaint and had scheduled an appointment. The adjuster came and spent less than 45 minutes. After looking at the roof, the claim was denied. He arrived before the time scheduled, and never spoke to us. We were told by our contractor that he would call us, but he (Jacob **) never did. Two weeks later, he sent a letter thanking us for meeting with him.
Allstate has poor customer service. Everyone on the street has hail damage; they will be getting new roofs, but not us-- we are with the wrong insurance company. Allstate, a good neighbor? What a joke; this isn't the first time we've had poor service when dealing with Allstate, but we plan on it being the last. There is obviously better companies out there.

Notice of non-renewal: the insured property is ineligible for this homeowner's policy because it is vacant. I am still here after 23 years. Now, they want to say the home next door is vacant and a high risk, and maybe not having car insurance with them. They are saying my home is vacant, but if you can see or send someone out, you will see that I do live here. I do not have anything to do with the home next door that is vacant. I cannot tear it down. The city has to do that, and also, it is a procedure and law.
Allstate looks like they can cancel you for anything like vacant lots, too many claims file in the area, chimney flashing, and etc. I never filed a claim with Allstate. All they want is to get their money.

On July 14th 2011, the Allstate agent, Phillip ** was notified by fax of a homeowners signed cancellation request in which the policy number and details were identified. In a letter postmarked August 11th, Phillip sent me a renewal offer on the anniversary of the policy, thus confirming their intent to ignore the above-named fax, and thereby avoid its obligations under the N.Y. Insurance Code.
On August 16th, I consulted the New York insurance commissioners office who informed me that the company had 30 days to write a check pro rating the premium, which they failed to do. I called the above-named agency about the matter and they pretended that they did not know of the cancellation notice to them but would get back to me, and which, they never did. During that call, I informed them their non-response would elicit a complaint to the Commissioner. My new agent, Matthew ** of Nationwide, again faxed the above information to Phillip's office, along with proof that the original fax had been received by their office.
In frustration, on August 21st, I called Allstate headquarters about the matter and they reported a check had been issued on August 22nd. In other words, when they discovered that they had been caught with their hand in the cookie jar, they did not want to invite a complaint to the Commissioner. It is quite obvious that the agency had every intension to violate the code, pretend innocence, and thereby avoid its legal responsibility.
I urge an investigation of this matter to determine how widespread it is, and if the parent company is aware of this practice, especially since the average citizen will not have the knowledge to complain.

I accepted a homeowner’s insurance from Allstate several years ago. Back in April 2009, I had to submit a claim for roof damage due to a hail storm, which has been proven and documented.
A year later, my home was vandalized and completely destroyed and rendered unable to be lived in. I have several police reports. Detectives were assigned to the case. Allstate paid $2,400 approximately. This was not enough to make the home livable. I had to move back closer to my mom. My home is now in foreclosure and due to be sold on September 6, 2011.
It is not just Allstate that has completely wronged me. The town of Douglasville, GA is despicable. The police department was useless. The real estate agency was useless. The judge in landlord tenant court was unprofessional and useless.

Our area in NW Indiana was hit by a catastrophic hailstorm on 5/10/11. Allstate classified it as a catastrophe. The adjuster, Dan Boyer, came out a few days later and determined that we did not need a new roof, but agreed to replace the gutters and siding on one side of the house. My husband and I disagreed with the decision in that the roof was damaged by hail and needed to be replaced, along with new siding on another side of the house. Several roofing contractors came to inspect and confirmed our determination.
We contacted our agent, Bill Pontif, and he attempted to have our home reinspected, but was told by the Agent Claim Advocate that we would have to hire an independent appraisor at our own expense and go to arbitration. Our agent told us to call and file a complaint with Allstate Customer Care in hopes that further action could be taken.
I spoke with Melitta Wright at Customer Care, who then referred my complaint to another person. This person called me the next day and left a message on my voice mail. She did NOT leave her name and provided the WRONG extension. Eventually, I was able to speak with her, Annette Nordone. She told me that Allstate would not send another inspector. I was told to hire an independent appraisor, and Allstate would send their own "independent" appraisor, and then we would go to arbitration.

My homeowners insurance just increased 39% due to the natural disasters in Kansas. I was told by the Allstate gal, Tonya, that this increase was across the board to everyone in Kansas that was covered by Allstate.
I thought that was strange, and I asked her again did she mean it was increased to ALL Kansans? She said she didn't know that for sure, but for sure it was passed on to all the Allstate consumers. I have searched all over the Internet trying to find this insurance hike, and have also sent an email to the commissioner, but I was wondering if anyone else in Kansas is dealing with this increase?
I am not opposed to spreading out the cost to help everyone who is in need due to these disasters, but 39% is overkill. My insurance rate has increased over $400 a year, that is absurd! In this economy, once again, we, consumers, will carry the load. They get us every time! If anyone has any info on this, please pass on to me. I will greatly appreciate it.

I called Allstate in November of 2010 for damage on my roof. It took them 6 months to have an adjuster come out and evaluate the roof at my home. I asked if they were going to replace the roof and the adjuster said yes. He said he would call me in a couple of days. I didn't hear from him, but I received a summary of what they were going to cover and how much they were going to give me. I didn't understand the summary so I called the adjuster and asked him about the summary, and what should I have them fix when I called the contractors. The adjuster told me to tell them the roof needs to be replaced, repair the gutters and send me the estimate.
I did that and a week later, I received three checks totaling 9680.00 dollars. So I put the checks in the bank and waited for them to clear and 4 days later, I took the money out of my bank and handed it to the contractor. He replaced the roof and repaired the gutters that weekend and I was very happy. I got a phone call from my bank a week later and the supervisor at the bank said that Allstate is not paying for $4800.00 worth of the check. I said, "why? They can't do that". She said to "contact your insurer and let me know". So I called Allstate and they keep giving me the runaround. They won't issue me a new check even after I showed them that my checking account is negative $4800 and still growing from all the late fees. They don't return my phone calls and now they are refusing to resolve this matter.
I need help. Can anyone help me? I don't feel like I did anything wrong. They give me the runaround and won't give me a straight answer. Please help me.

So they got here at 11:00am, Allstate sent a company called Avalon, the server's name was Kirk **. He took a device that detected where the water was, it was from the back door washroom, kitchen,d inner room, part of living room, hallway, both bedrooms and both bathrooms. We have a 1344 sq foot home, so everywhere.
Kirk from Avalon said before he touches, anything he needs to talk to the insurance company because this is a lot of damage and it's going to cost thousands, and he needs to know how much we are covered for. I called my insurance company on phone, then put Kirk on phone. He told them the news and got the approval to do his work. He pulled up all the carpet and tile on floor. Then brought in 5 fans and 3 big machines to dry up the water that was very hot. They never sent anyone to come over to look at the air conditioned and under the house.
We have gnats, I believe, coming from the vents on the floor from all the water. I have sent 2 certified letters to them about this matter but nothing yet. Then they called me today June 9, saying they will send a check for $8,699.00 but will be payable to the loan company which our home had been paid off . So I guess that's the hold up.

We had to replace the foundation wall itself, the wall frame including siding, insulation and finishing. The same time I called the insurance company and opened a claim. We didn't have too much time because the damage was serious, the whole side of the house could collapse. We contacted the construction company to get the estimate to fix the damage. The estimate was around $20K. The insurance company adjuster wasn't in a big rush to come for his adjustment, we had to call him several times because we could not wait anymore, due to the severity of the damage. Finally the adjuster came but it was in the evening, it was already dark. Anyway, he inspected the damage and made some pictures. After that I received a phone call from him and he said that my claim will be denied. I asked for an official denial letter. I received a letter but it wasn't a denial letter, it was a letter from the adjuster himself.
The letter said that the claim was denied because my insurance only "Covers the damage caused by weather storm. But since your damage was caused by the combination of snow, rain and ice, it is not covered", which didn't make any sense to me. I had to pay from my own pocket to the construction company to fix the damage. I kept contacting the insurance company to get the official denial with all explanation, including my rights as a customer, and the appeal procedure. I didn't get anything since. Instead of that, I received a call in September of 2010 from them, saying that my claim is still opened, they will send a different adjuster to do another inspection. She told me that Frank’s estimate was for repair of the slate roof and not replacement. The first two Allstate adjusters that were out to the house, Kevin ** (Allstate’s first adjuster from Tennessee 1-847-224-8742) and Bob **, told me that when there are over 27 slates missing or damaged on a slate roof, that the policy was to replace the roof entirely. If I chose to repair the roof, it would only be done once, and that as unnoticed damaged tiles continued to fall off, Allstate would not come back out to fix them or leaks. Replacement was their recommendation and that the roof was pretty much a total loss.
When Frank and Jen were out to the house on the 5th, we discussed that the roof was to be replaced as the first two Allstate adjusters had recommended. Jen was verbally combative on this issue. She stated that Frank was saying he could repair the roof and that we shouldn’t change direction to what he was suggesting. I told her that changing direction would be to repair the roof when the other adjusters had written the roof off as a total loss/replacement. Any reputable slate roofer can repair a severely damaged roof, but what good is it if it continues to lose tiles down the road. The estimates for the roof up to this point have been for replacement. Frank was insistent on writing an estimate for repairing the roof, but would also write an estimate for the replacement as the other contractors had. I have yet to see the competitive estimate for replacing the roof, which brings me back to Jennifer **’s comment that I was just going to replace the roof with asphalt. I guess Jennifer ** would like us to compare Apples to Oranges.
I almost think she takes me for ignorant. I went through the rest of Frank’s competitive estimate from an available contractor Allstate uses, and found that Frank basically rewrote what repairs were to be done to the house according to what he thought and not by what the first two adjusters Kevin ** and Bob ** wrote. The Allstate adjusters (not General Contractors) who saw most of the damage first hand and wrote what needed to be repaired and replaced. I say most of the damage because Kevin originally didn’t write up the hail damage that the siding had sustained.
Bob ** then came out and wrote up the siding on the left side of the house that was hit with the tree and debris, the front side with the tree and hail, but did not include the right side which was damaged from the hail and the porch coming down. Three sides were damaged not two. Bob probably did this to avoid having to replace all the sidings on the house per Allstate’s policy if three of the sides are damaged, you replace all the sidings. This was according to Frank on the 5th, when he and Jen confirmed the damage was on three sides.
Dissecting Frank’s estimate further shows he has only 650 SF of aluminum siding when there should be closer to 900 SF. He has allocated painting of 848 SF, which is acknowledgment of the 900 SF that needs to be replaced. I have 8 individual aluminum corner wraps and not the cheap metal outside corner posts he has included in his estimate. This alone is a huge difference in material and labor. Frank’s estimate has him removing and re-installing a tree dented aluminum gutter / downspout. The double pane gas window that was broken is just having the glass replaced and re-glazed. This window was written as a replacement not repair. Bob just didn’t allocate enough money to the contractors for the window itself or the labor to install it in his estimate. The slate roof estimate doesn’t allocate any copper flashing for damage on the ridge. The side porch had two exterior screen doors, and not one. The list goes on and on. Any contractor can repair a house by buttering it up and cutting corners, literally in my case.
Jennifer told me that Frank was coming out as a General Contractor to give me an estimate on what the previous Allstate adjusters came up within terms of repair and replacement of my damaged home. A competitive estimate, because the money Allstate allocated to repair the house has been an insufficient amount for me to hire local, tax-paying, American citizen contractor. What General Contractor gets paid to give an estimate for work I was told he is going to do. What General Contractor then tells you he can’t talk to you, only to Allstate because they are the ones who paid him, about the estimate he just wrote for work he is going to do.
Between the “I must have missed the hail damage” to the “I see the hail but missed the third side the side where the porch also ripped off and damaged the house” to the “available General Contractor who just happens to get paid by Allstate and has their estimating program.” There are beautiful horses and ponies in this show. I understand that the economy is bad, but this kind of behavior is what Governor Christie is talking about. This is what is hurting us not only as a state but as a nation. Corporations with CEOs that made $18 million last year because they stuck it to their customers in the form of $10,000 here, $20,000 there, or in my case $38,000 and a lot of my time, mental stress, and disheartened for the system.”

“I am writing to bring you up to speed with Allstate’s correspondence. I first spoke with Jennifer ** on the 12th of July, 2010. She requested just the contractor quotes for the damages to the house and not the entire file I had. These quotes ranged from the early estimates in August 2009 to the most recent quotes that I got through June 2010. I sent her out these early and later quotes via fax at 4:00 pm on the 12th. I received a phone call about the quotes that they were received, and then spoke to Jen on the 20th about quotes and what number was I looking for. I told her I was looking for the numbers that the contractors were coming up with for repairs. She told me that according to Bob **, I was upgrading the house through the repairs.
The house still sits as it did after the storm. Minus the minimal electrical work, demo of porch and debris/tree clean-up to make the house safe and inhabitable, I still have all the repairs to make. In terms of upgrading the house, I don’t think it gets any more top of the line than a slate roof and aluminum siding in terms of construction and costs. From the adjustments Allstate has written, it sounds more like they want me to downgrade my home investment. I told Jennifer if you need a number, you and I will go through the quotes from the contractors, break them down in comparison to Bob’s adjustments and come up with a number. I spent the entire day July 21st, 10 doing just that, and boy I am glad.
I averaged the quotes from contractors eliminating the ridiculously high or not understandable what they were covering. I took into account work like gutters and fascia boards that contractors wrote to replace in one quote for the slate roof, and other quotes that were replacing it while repairing the aluminum siding. The averages of the estimates to repair, and only repair, are $38,000.00 more than Bob ** (original adjuster) wrote up.
Through advice from friends that are in the legal industry, contractors, and online nightmares in insurance that have been reading about, I will not start work on the house until Allstate comes up with a number that is the average to repair the damage. This is only fair. I don’t feel like I am in good hands right now. If I am, they are both around my neck. When this incident first occurred on July 26th, 2009, we spent the first night at the house with a camp lantern and water we had stocked in the basement. I then went to the Hampton Inn, Clinton where I spent about three weeks until the electric could be repaired. Bob and I concluded that the electric needed to be completed to get me out of the house and save Allstate money on the hotel and ALEs (Additional Living Expenses), which averaged $1100-$1400 per week. Bob came back to me 6 weeks later and told me that he adjusted for $3100 in electrical repairs. I already had the electrical done 5 weeks prior for $4500. Allstate is giving me trouble with that, and I haven’t even gotten the yard finish graded out from the electrical repair. There is a 150-foot weed covered mound where the trench for the underground electrical work was done. I can’t even ride over it with the mower.
I spoke with Jennifer on the 27th. She wants to have an independent general contractor come out to do a competitive estimate. I wish I was given this option from the beginning, but I was told by Bob ** that there were no contractors in the area that Allstate worked with. I just called Jennifer back and she is going to come out with that contractor to go over the house with all of us on the same page. I will have to take off from work again, but at least we can hopefully put this to rest and repair my home.”

I got a letter on Sept. 24 saying that Allstate is classifying our fire risk upwards by changing a rule. Our premium will increase by over 30%, another $350. We live 2 miles from a volunteer fire company, which will soon be less than 1 mile from our home. We have fire hydrants on our property connected to fire safety tanks. No break. I'm being forced to either raise my deductible or find a new insurer.

This complaint is concerning the excessive amount of homeowners insurance yearly premium in the amount of 7,729.11. I had no claims with this company. A couple of months before the renewal, my mortgage company had ready released funds to Allstate. I contacted the agent and ask why this tremendous increase. She had no good reason. I contacted the main office of Allstate. They sent me a letter saying that it pretty much the discretion of the agent.
I contacted other insurance companies to find out was it anything that was in and on my credit that would substantiate such an increase after contacting several companies they couldn't find any reason for such an increase. I was informed by the other companies to contact the Department of Insurance. In 09 my premium rate was 3,380.56. This agent was proud of the new SUV Lexus she newly purchased.

On July 5, 2010, I was on vacation in NC when I received phone call that my home was on fire. When I returned, I was told by claims adjusters that it was declared total loss. The contents has since paid full amount of coverage. But house was insured for amount of over $173,000. I have been offered only $110,000 which barely pays my mortgage. It doesn't allow for purchase of another home or to re-build. Allstate adjuster says if I rebuild, it must be on the previous foundation and 2-story as is what lot can accommodate. I am now elderly and disabled, and need it to be single-story. This adjuster has lowered the offer for lot, concrete pad, fencing (which I had none) and the foundation. He is unwilling to talk about it. Also, I had a 3-bedroom nice size home and they have me in a small 2-bedroom apartment with lots of noise and no space.
I am at loss as to what to do? At present, the loss is more than $63,000 and I do not have money to remove debris.

In May, Alicia sent me a quote for homeowners insurance of $1,102.78. She said that I would receive a bill for a higher amount. She said, "Don't freak out. Ignore that and wait for the updated bill. Whatever you do, don't pay on the first bill." I followed her instructions when the bill for $1,554.58 arrived in July, a month after my coverage date. Then, I received a notice saying that I had to pay an installment or the policy would lapse.
I called the office but Alicia was out of the office. So I spoke to Tim. I explained what she had told me. He said to go ahead and pay the higher first installment. It would be okay because it would lower my payments when the adjusted policy came through, so I paid. Then, I received notice of the next payment due--with no adjustment. When I called the office again, still no Alicia, and Tim was at lunch. I called Allstate corporate office. They checked and said that the $1,554.58 was the correct amount. They agreed that the discrepancy of $451.70 was excessive. They apologized.
An apology is not enough, especially when it did not come from the agency that made the mistake. If it was a mistake, if they had been honest with me at the beginning, I would have been able to shop around for a new insurance quote. I am extremely angry and wish there was something I could do to correct this disgraceful situation. How can they get away with this?

I contracted with this company (after divorce as a solo homeowner) in 2006. An inspector was sent out. My home has 952 SF as shown with the Tax Assessor's Office for my city. Somehow this inspector found "an additional 1,000 feet and I was charged for the additional square footage ever since. I just now realized, and contacted my agent, and he made the appropriate changes. I had already paid my yearly premium, and did receive a check for the difference after changes were made, however, my agent refuses to provide me with updated billing (so I'll know exactly how much I was always supposed to pay), and he refuses to send me an updated policy.
I asked for two years of overpayment (per statute of limitations), and he provided lame excuses. I stated to him that if I did not receive same, I would look into a small claims suit, at which time, he stated that he can not speak to me, because I mentioned law suit. Finally, I had made an electronic payment of $154.36 from my bank's bill pay website. This payment to Allstate was an error as it should have been made to my trash collector, All Waste. I asked my agent to send this payment back to me, and he insists I would need a copy of the check, both sides, as proof the payment was made in error.
An electronic payment does not send a check, it goes right into the creditors account. I have sent him copies of my banks emails in trying to resolve this matter, but my Allstate agent is not responding to me regarding this issue. He continually asks for a copy of the check, and until he receives it, he can not help me. The payment shows on documentation, when I check my payment history on the All State website.
And what is this mess, that they increase my policy amount (I contracted at $150,000.00), but they are using a program to change policy amount coverage to show how much it would cost to rebuild my home. Heck, home-ownership isn't a dream, its a nightmare. Why would I want to rebuild, when I would be rid of the nightmare, if anything happened to my home. This is ridiculous to change my coverage amount without my knowledge and consent!
The consequences include the money paid in error, which I need, to pay other bills if Allstate would just return the payment made in error. I am goping through a lot of stress due to this matter, which is effecting other health issues I am experiencing.

My entry door was kicked in and I was robbed on a Friday night. I contacted my Allstate agent next morning, spoke with the secretary and never heard back from my agent until over a week later, she sent me an email saying I heard you were filing a claim. So on the same morning, Saturday, after the incident, I called up Allstate claims and filed a report. They would not talk to me until I filed a claim. The very first sentence the claims adjustor said was, "We won't cover your claim; your HOA is responsible."
She denies she said it, but why would I make that up. I told her I wasn't interested in them paying a claim. What I called about was wanting help to get someone to put in a new entry door as soon as possible. That was on the Sunday after I called on Saturday. Then she said that they could have a person out possibly Monday and assess the damage and board the door. Well, I heard back from them on Tuesday that a guy could come over. So I live in a condo, with only one entry and the door has been kicked in and hanging on hinges for 4 nights now. I told them I couldn't have the door boarded when it's my only way in, I needed a new door put on. Well, that couldn't be done. It's Tuesday now, a guy wants to come over, and then I'd have to wait longer for someone to put on the door.
I went to Home Depot around the corner and explained the problem. That afternoon, I had my door replaced and new locks put in. Of course, I paid all expenses. In the mean time, still no help from Allstate. Allstate's good hands means getting my premium, telling me I had no claim, and never helping me to sleep in a secure home. Thank you, Allstate.

I have had Allstate Insurance for over 31 years, and I'm now in the process of cancelling service with them. My agent recently sent out a notice saying he was moving in with another agent across town. I have constantly tried to reach him but has not been able to talk to him. The reason for me calling him was due to a survey sent to me concerning my Homeowners Insurance. Allstate wanted to know who my alarm service was with, and proof my home was insured, or my rates would go up.
I submitted the info, and then my rate was increased approximately by $75.00 per year. I then received a survey asking me how many vehicles I owned, who drives them, the age of the drivers, how far I drive to work, the purpose of the other vehicles and an estimate of miles to be placed on the vehicles for the upcoming year. I have submitted that information as well, and I'm sure my coverage will also increase on my autos. The first time I called my new agent, she stated the old agent was on vacation. Approximately two weeks later, I called again and was told that my old agent had moved in with her office, and stated he would be working approximately 3 days a week, then 2 days a week, and to be honest, she hardly ever sees him.
I asked about my homeowners insurance and mentioned to her about the survey on my auto insurance, and she stated that my rates were so low, and my deductible was so low, that my account needed to be checked. I feel that my old agent has retired, and has referred his business to this new Office Park Circle Allstate Office, far from the Homewood office he used to have. This is not fair at all! After over 31 years with coverage, I feel my rate should continue, without an increase, because someone probably new in the business wants to get rich quick, on a good customer's account. I still haven't heard from my old agent of over 31 years, and probably won't, but that's fine, because I'm through with Allstate, and my family and friends are considering the same!

In June, there was a terrible lightning and rainstorm that flooded my basement area, ruining my carpet and some winter clothes. Also, my central air-conditioning unit was damaged, struck by lightning rendering me without air-conditioning in 98-100 degree heat in Birmingham. I figured that I might have had roof damage on a new $5,000 dollar roof that I had installed in 2004, so I had them check the roof also. The roof had not been damaged.
However, the Allstate Adjuster told me that my roof was put on wrong, and that if I ever had any roof damage that Allstate would not pay. The roof was put on by a professional roofing company, and inspected by a city inspector. I asked the Adjuster: "So if my roof gets torn off by a tornado or storm, Allstate will not pay just because you say it is not put on correctly? " He said, "No, we will not pay." I thought then, "Why have I been paying you since 1993 and you now come and tell me something stupid like this?" Then, I learned that Allstate should pay me for the damage done to my air-conditioning central air unit, so I asked about this. The adjuster told me if I had a company to tell them that my unit was probably struck by lightning, that he would cut a check, minus my deductible so that I could have a new unit installed.
My unit was serviced in March and there was nothing wrong with it. I had the service company send proof that the unit was working well before that bad storm that knocked the power off for six hours. I talked back to the adjuster only after I called a supervisor, who has also been giving me the run around. I have faxed two letters and a second air-conditioning repair company report to them, and I still have not heard from anyone. I have a life threatening illness that requires anti-coagulation therapy and should not be too hot. I still have not heard from Allstate. It is 98-100 degree weather here. I have had to buy a window air conditioning unit that does not cool my entire home. Then, on Tuesday of last week, my ceiling fell in for no particular reason. There was not any water leak, or anything that should have caused the ceiling to fall.
My daughter was visiting and it almost fell on her and her 13-month old son. I was so upset I had to see a doctor and have been upset and sick since this happened. I called Allstate and they told me they didn't cover my ceiling falling in. I am on a fixed income and have struggled to pay my premiums each month, but a dog should not be treated the way Allstate has treated me. I intend to keep faxing letters to Allstate until I hear from someone. My next step is going to be an attorney, then a new insurance company.
Plus, I believe this is the first claim that I have ever filed. Economic damage is that I will have to spend money that I don't have, and the physical damage has caused me to be depressed, sick and worried. I take medication for high blood pressure and a blood clotting condition. My doctor has had to increase my anti-coagulation therapy because I was so upset and forgot to take my medication. You are not in good hands with Allstate.

Well they paid for the damage done to the house but now have denied my claim for the stolen items from inside of the house. Allstate sent a letter on January 20, 2010 stating that 1.Concealment or Fraud 2, Failure to cooperate during the claim process.
I sent them everything that they asked for that I had. The investigator stated that he didn't believe that I had some of the items listed. Like my jewelry a 4ct diamond tennis bracelet, dell laptop, 60 inch flat screen TV and a washer and dryer set given to me by my sons. I have never heard of this. He also said that since I wouldn't give them my bank account no. that I was not cooperating. It took a long time for me to get most of the things that were stolen as I told him and I will never be able to replace some of the items because they were given to me by my late husband.
I am so upset and have sent in an appeal with no response. It's a shame that we as consumers have no recourse. I feel so violated all over again from the insurance company. It's a shame that they can treat people like this and nothing is done about it. I thought that's why we have insurance commissioners.

Allstate refused to issue a new home insurance policy to an 88-year old woman who had been a customer for well over thirty years. The woman is our mother and was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in the fall of 2007. The property in question, a 3-flat apartment building in which my mother, older brother and his 13 year-old daughter, and I have owned and resided in since May of 1999. Our mother was the primary borrower on the mortgage and my brother listed as co-borrower. We would contribute our portion of the mortgage to her and she would send her check in.
What we did not realize was that earlier in 2007, she had begun making partial payments to the mortgage company for whom this was unacceptable. All correspondence from the mortgage company went directly to her, so we did not find out that we were headed for foreclosure until October 2007. I was able to temporarily stop any such action by producing a dated letter from her neurologist confirming the fact that she suffered from Alzheimer's. The only thing they would accept was an application for a loan modification, which we proceeded with. The company was Countrywide, which was taken over by Bank of America. We are one of the families that the banks have toyed with over nearly three years, despite the fact that everything they requested from us were sent to them. I have my own fax machine and would send the requested documents myself.
Anyway, we have now retained a law firm specializing in loan modifications which should settle the situation soon. But there was the problem of the building being insured. During part of 2009 and 2010, Bank of America became aware of the loss of coverage by Allstate and took it upon themselves to insure the building with their own insurance company. I was aware of the building needing to be reinsured, but my primary focus was in saving the property (i.e.our home). I was honestly not aware that there was a time limit for a property to be reinsured and since our mother had insured with Allstate for so many years and I had carried on the tradition by having my cars and condominium also insured by them, I had no idea there would be a problem.
In contacting our insurance agent, we learned of the time issue and that Allstate would not comply. I also found out that in 2008, our mother had attempted to reinsure the building, but stopped making payments because she'd forgotten. This was unknown to both my brother and myself. My brother had obtained Power of Attorney to act on her behalf, but other bills regarding the building had also gone unpaid. So he was involved in straightening out and paying off those debts. I'm sorry that this is so lengthy, but it is a long and complicated story, and this is the abridged version. Bottom line is, unlike on their commercials, Allstate was not there when we needed them the most.

I have a renter's insurance policy with Allstate. My apartment was broken into. It was a very bizarre robbery because the criminals busted through the dining room wall. I was in the process of moving because my apartment was vandalized by the same criminals prior to the robbery. They stole all the copper pipes. I was told by the leasing office that I had to move immediately because it is against the law to rent an apartment to someone that does not have running water. The management had no idea how long it would take to repair the situation. However, their negligence is another story wholly. I moved some of my things to the new apartment. However, I did not have a truck to move everything. I thought the majority of items were moved that could be stolen.
To ensure my property I barricaded the front of the kitchen cabinets because I thought that would be the only way that the robbers could enter my apartment. Well they came through the dining room wall. My apartment was in a mess when I discovered it. I could not determine what was missing because the floors of two rooms and a closet were covered with clothes, papers, etc. I called the claim into Allstate. It took almost three days for the adjuster to get in touch with me. She stated to give the police the inventory list of stolen property once I was finished with it. I did exactly that. It took me some time to get the list completed because I moved from the complex completely and put my things in storage. At the time I discovered I had been robbed I could not think. All I could do was wonder why this was happening to me. Well, the adjuster turned my claim over to the special investigations unit.
It has been almost two months since the robbery and I have yet to receive a settlement for my stolen property. It seems that there are some indicators that I may be committing fraud. This is what they are accusing me of. The investigator wants to pull my credit, work history, medical history, etc. Why? What does all of this have to do with me being robbed? It is obvious that Allstate does not want to settle claims. They have no problem with taking consumers' money. However, when it is time to pay they take us through all of this red tape. It looks like they will be facing another class action suit again if they do not change the way they do business.

We returned in March from a camping trip, and where we park our RV was a huge tree that fell. This tree fell on our metal garage and smashed the back sections. I called Allstate and proceeded to file my claim. The winter snow storms had caused this tree to come crashing down. We received the estimate and were told to get the sections to replace and repair and that when we ordered, they would send the check. The building was no longer being made, so we had to special order the sections from the manufacturer in Canada.
Everything seemed fine till I went on Allstate website to pay my payment and spotted the claim was totally shocked. The pictures taken by the adjuster was of the garage but also included our mail box, our house, and several comments. I called my agent, and she was unaware of the photos. I told her the pictures were of the renovations being performed on our home to upgrade the deck and home exterior. The adjuster never even took pictures of the damage to the foundation of this garage. I called her, and she was unaware there was any. I told her I would send photos, but she said to just send her the bill and they will cut a check.
She didn't properly do her job on this matter; she was to interested in our renovations. I thought nothing more about this till several weeks later when I got a call from my agent stating that I had 30 days for all renovations to be done. I told her this was major work being done and may not be done in 30 days. She said they had to be done and to just cover it up till the home inspection then they could undo this and start the renovations over again. i told her a cover up of this was not fixing what we were working on and we wanted this done right. But she insisted it had to be done in 30 days to keep our insurance. We went in to panic mode and start the repairs faster, and if need be, would cover it up if not completed.
With a month to complete, we received a letter from Allstate risk management which stated we need to seek insurance elsewhere, as in 30 days, we would no longer be covered. Again, I called my agent. She stated this is standard and that once the repairs were done, they would still have our insurance. We took no chances, while we still are working on our home every day to complete the renovations. I started looking for the new insurance for all 3 SUV trucks and our RV and home.
I am now in a better policy with 1/2 the yearly cost. Allstates good hands just slapped me in to something better, even though I have been with Allstate for over 35 years. I found the Hartford Insurance was a great savings, so losing my good hands insurance (ha ha) was a blessing for me and Allstate will soon get their termination notice in July, not just our home but all the vehicles.
Allstate, you are losing valued customers. I will send the notices to you for July 1, and with pleasure, let you know I have a better rate and policy and will be a very happy former customer. Thanks for this, as I now save money and have a great insurance policy!

A plumber ran a hole through a pipe in my kitchen, I didn't discover it, or the water and mold damage for a month. I called Allstate. I spoke with Andrew **. It took two weeks for an Adjuster to come to my home (Michele **). Andrew was going to send me a check when we spoke on the phone but Ms. ** came to my home and denied the claim. The picture she took was taken under a piece of plastic, she never looked at the mold. She said she would pay for the mold behind my refrigerator (which was a dust spot from my compressor). I showed her the damage in my living room, under my carpet and two of my China Closets. She told me I could scrape the mold off of the carpet. She then told me they would not cover the loss. The mold was too old.
I have talked to countless people at Allstate and each time I get a different story. They told me that if a loss is sudden and accidental they would cover it. The two feet of water in my wall was sudden and accidental and so was the mold. I talked to Andrew **'s boss who told me that anything over seven days was weeks. I had a brand new $30,000. kitchen put in last year, now I have not had a kitchen for almost five months.
The back of my house is open and the mold is supposed to be inactive, although it is still there. I tried to explain to them that I have COPD and it is hard for me to breath in this house, but, they do not care. The plumber, Hawthorne Plumbing of Las Vegas, NV. has an insurance company that has offered me $7000. to fix everything, that won't even cover the Mold remediation and replacement of my back kitchen wall. I am against a brick wall and do not know where to turn, I am a Senior Citizen, I don't think that I should be treated this way.
My kitchen is completely gutted, the back wall is open, the cabinets with mold on them are outside by my pool. All of my Antique furniture is pushed to one side of my Living Room, part of the floor is gone, part of the wall is gone, there is still mold in the living room and kitchen walls. Physically, this is very demanding on me, economically, I have to eat out a lot because my kitchen is not intact, my range is in the dining room, not plugged up.

I was told by Mr. Cope at the time of inspection that the weather would need to be investigated at the time the claim was called in before he would make his decision on claim. I called Allstate to ask about my garage door tearing up my wall base to my garage. They came out and looked at it and said it wasn't anything covered by insurance. That's cool, no claim was filed. Well, that was in Jan. 2008. My insurance just went up on my home by $456 and therefore made my mortgage payment go up by $93.
I called another insurance agency to get a quote, and they said that the system shows I have filed 3 claims: 1 for the garage door, 1 for the roof and 1 for water. I only called to inquire about the water part. No one came out. I truly only have 1 legitimate claim and that's for the roof, but I can't get insured by another company now until these fake claims fall off (they take 3 years). I'm assuming my rate went up only because they paid a claim on my roof, which is wrong. I cannot wait until I can drop Allstate, and I will!

I have not received any notifications nor a refund check. I only found out about this because I had called to file a claim when a tree from a neighboring property fell onto my property/garage. I switched insurance companies in February 2010 to get a better rate combining home and auto. I chose Allstate, the "good hands" people. This has proven to be a disaster! I had purchased a different car and called to update my policy. After taking care of that, I asked a question about my home insurance. When the representative looked up the policy, she said it had been canceled. She went on to say that it was canceled because of a leaning fence post, aluminum shed doors that were off, a (1) rotten deck board, and curled roof shingles.
I asked how that was found out, she went on to say that an Allstate representative came to my property and took photos. I told her no one contacted me about coming to my home. She said that they didn't like it when home owners were at home so they don't make appointments. This avoids conversations for the representative with the home owners.
I informed her that was trespassing. I have children that could have been at home and I would have expected them to call 911 had they seen a person in the backyard with a camera. I expressed my great displeasure with the situation in a polite but firm manner. She said that I may be able to send in photos of the repairs when they were done and have the policy reinstated, but that May 21, 2010 was the day the insurance would end.
Two days later, I received the official letter from Allstate about the cancellation. There was not anything mentioned about repairs being needed done by such and such date only. This policy is canceled as of May 21! The following day, I received a check in the mail for the amount paid up to date. Again no mention of anything except cancellation.
I am not yet cashing that check. I am horrified that Allstate came onto my property without permission or any sort of prior contact. I have mentioned this scenario to a some people and they have heard of this sort of thing happening to others. I don't know if it was Allstate or not. I have found out that Allstate is not the "good hands" people as they advertise! Needless to say, I am looking for another insurance company. Oh, did I mention that I had just paid for an appraiser two days before my phone call to refinance my house? Very bad timing!

On June 29, 2009, we had a break and enter at my parents' home. My parents had their own insurance. I had my own contents insurance. My parents had intact insurance. I had All State Insurance. My parents' insurance company came out and investigated. The police came out and made a report. My insurance then came out and the agent took pictures and the report. I had to sign all these forms and a police consent form, etc. I had told her that one year ago, we had a flood in the basement apartment where I lived and I lost the receipts and boxes, etc. in the flood and he told me not a problem.
So then, about two weeks later, she asked me to fill out a loss of contents forms and email it back to her. I did that. I called her numerous times and always got excuses. Then, one day, I get a call from someone at Allstate and he told me that my claim was transferred to him. All of a sudden, he asked me to fill out certain forms, so I did. Then, he tells me they were done wrong and then he sends me a police consent form and I send it back.
It's almost been a year and their logo says, "You're in good hands with Allstate." What a major understatement. I think they are the worst. You can never get a straight answer. The way I see it, the longer it takes to pay you on a claim, the more of our money they have to play with. But when you owe, instant cancellation of policy. But it's okay for them to hold on to money that belongs to us who have claims in but when they want to hike insurance rates, it's okay because they figure you need insurance if you want coverage.
So we can do what we want and you will suffer. Makes you want to start your own insurance company. It seems like it's legal for them to rob people and get away with it. That's just wrong. Not only have we been violated by having our homes broken into, flooded, our cars stolen, etc., but we also get ** by the Allstate Insurance. Truly unfair.

Of course they say they notified me in 2001, but all my paper work from Allstate has no mention of not covering the slab.
It seems they should have called me and asked me if I wanted to include my slab in my policy. They didn't mind increasing my premiums every year. First, they tell me that my claim would be "express"; then they decide to switch it over to their local office in Woodridge and drag it out. In the meantime, my home has a broken gate, broken door and a busted out window. They told me that they would work around my schedule but I had to take off work for them to come out to my house a full week after the break in.
Then when the examiner comes out, her camera dies so I have to email her the pics that I took after the break-in occurred. Constantly they are asking me for receipts for items that I no longer have receipts for. I didn't have to produce receipts for my first break-in and nowhere in my policy does it state that I need to keep all receipts of everything I own. I thankfully kept a couple of boxes from a few of the stolen items that I kept out in my garage. Out of over $3000 worth of items stolen from my home, they sent me a check for $78. I could have saved my money and not had insurance and covered my own missing items. They haven't covered my door, my gate, my iPod and a laptop that was in my possession that I paid for. I'm canceling this horrible policy and severing ties with the worse insurance company ever as soon as I finish writing to the Better Business Bureau and the Department of Insurance. Their lack of covering items cost me my engagement ring. I had to return it to cover the items stolen from my home.

I requested a quote online from David ** of Allstate/Chris ** Agency, which resulted from an email ad. The quote was customized for me specifically with the $1000 deductible requested. An agreement was made and legal tender presented to secure the policy. The amount of insurance was for $180,000 coverage with $1000 deductible. Pretty basic and standard request, right?
In September 2009, I had severe water damage from a leaking radiator in a second floor bedroom. After a few days of leaking that came through the floor into the ceilings and ran the outer seams of my kitchen ceiling, it finally manifested itself in the form of a puddle in front of my refrigerator. I first mopped up the puddle, thinking that maybe the refrigerator waterline had began leaking. The next day, the puddle reappeared and also had ran into the storage room of my basement. I called Allstate, reported the incident and was informed, after a date for a claims adjuster to come and assess the damage. I was informed that the damage would not cover the $7500 deductible of my policy! I informed them that there had to be a mistake. Who on earth needed or would ever secure such a ridiculous policy? I called their headquarters and was told that I should have read the 56 page insurance policy that was mailed to me to determine if there were any errors. No regard was given to the actual hard copy quote that I based my decision and paid the first months premium on!
Lastly, I filed a complaint with the Ohio Insurance Department, looking for some restitution of such a denial of claim. The department's analyst totally ignored the facts and with her mind made up through verbal conversations with the agent and independent Allstate business owner that I was yet somehow held responsible because I did not read the policy, they claimed was mailed with paperwork that needed to be returned, that there was no wrong misrepresentation on Allstate's part. In other words, they did what was required and I should have read the policy and found the error. It doesn't matter that the premium doesn't fit the deductible or the fact that there is an email showing the $1000 deductible requested and shown on the quote that payment was issued.
I have today, and after 7 months now, forwarded this concern to the director of this organization along with my expression of disappointment in their inability to process plain simple hard copy evidence presented to them, and without request but upon my insistence that they acknowledge both sides of the story and the evidence presented. After 7 months, my house still in the unrepaired and in damaged state. I received a letter today, 4/6/10, still denying that there has been any violation or misrepresentation by Allstate. Can you believe that? The only thing that the Department of Insurance did was instruct the Allstate claims division to go and assess the damage and take pictures that resulted in an estimate of over $4500. That is a lot of damage! I have paint and plaster still falling, ceiling fell out of my kitchen, linoleum tile loosen from the kitchen floor, wallpaper in kitchen and hallway under the bedroom is still peeling and hanging from some walls, rugs in bedroom water damaged and hardwood floors need to be refinished and stained. I could not enjoy or entertain for the first time through the holidays because the damage had not been assessed, although I took my own pictures.

Allstate has carried our homeowners insurance for seven years without any claims or "incidents. " We even went so far as to not file a claim when we had a legitimate loss that we should have collected on because we try to be responsible with our insurance to a point of fault. When our renewal papers arrived, Allstate jumped our rates from $1,000 to a whopping $1,800 a year.
As if that were not bad enough, if we stay with Allstate, we'll have to pay three times our usual premium thanks to the $1,600 hole they want to leave in our escrow. I hate to change insurance. I'm the type of person that buys a policy and keeps it for life, but not this time. Their motto is "You're always in good hands," but they forgot to mention that those hands will rape your wallet and leave it screaming in your pocket.
We called our agent for answers, but the only response we received was the usual company programmed response. Now, a day later, I've already found another carrier that offers more coverage for half of the cost Allstate wants to charge me for the upcoming year. If we kept our Allstate policy in force, we would have to pay three times for less coverage thanks to a $1,600 hole left in our escrow account, thanks to an unreasonable rate increase. We've also been forced to move all of our insurance because the second we cancel our homeowners policy, Allstate has promised without any remorse that we will have significant rate increases on our remaining policies. We called a few other insurance providers and some of the questions caused us to look closely at our existing Allstate policy. This review caused us to wonder if our current policy was written properly. The biggest question was about the rating information that said our dwelling was of "frame construction."
When we were unable to contact Mr. ** at his business number, we called the Allstate headquarters toll free number and ended up talking to a customer service rep (Brian) on 10-24-09. We informed Brian of our concerns about having a policy that did not reflect our existing home. We were told our existing policy was for a "stick built" home and our home is a manufactured home. Brian was informed by us that at the time we took out the policy with Allstate, the agent was informed we were in a manufactured home and provided the agent with the make and model plus square footage. When we were asked if the agent had inspected the property, we advised Brian that we had never seen or heard from any Allstate agent since we opened the account with them.
We expressed our concern that this misrepresentation of our property could (if we had submitted a claim) cause Allstate to not allow our claim. Brian indicated that Allstate would honor the claim if submitted, but would require re-writing a policy reflecting the manufactured home. We advised Brian that now that we know there is a problem, shouldn't we have a revised policy if something should happen that would require a claim. Brian said he didn't think that would be necessary, but since we and he were unable to get through to our agent in Edgewood, NM, he would transfer us to an agent here in Deming.
We were referred to a lady named "Mary Kay" at **. She said she could provide us with coverage right away and would call us back as soon as possible. On 10-26-09, we were contacted by Mr. Robert ** of Allstate in Edgewood, NM, who advised us that he was not the original agent who wrote our policy. He had only been given the policy a few years ago and the original agent no longer worked in that office.
After we explained our concerns about the irregularities with the policy (Mary Kay had indicated our policy said we were inside the limits of the city of Deming) and if Allstate could use this as an excuse to disallow us if we had submitted a claim, Robert assured us that Allstate would not ever do such a thing. Robert explained that they (Allstate) would simply pay the claim and close the old policy, then write the proper policy for a manufactured home. Robert indicated that if being inside or outside of the city limits of Deming made no difference. Plus, an agent could have inspected our property without contacting us and simply taken a picture of the exterior.
On 10-27-09, Robert contacted us to provide us with a new quote for a policy on our manufactured home. He assured us that we could simply write a new policy that would take effect after the old policy expired (Policy # ** exp 12/1). Robert also indicated that we had his word that Allstate would not require us to any payment of fees for back coverage since the misrepresentation was not of our doing. Robert gave us a quote of $531.00. We expressed to Robert that we felt the reason the original agent failed to give us a policy that reflected our actual requirements was that he could bid below any other legitimate offer.
While calling around for offers of a new policy, my wife, Carol, received a call from Allstate's "Customer Resolution Department." Ms. Becky ** advised her that if we were to pursue this complaint, Allstate might "back charge us!" This had all the feeling of a not-so-veiled threat that only added insult to an already open sore! Becky's phone number is **. I called Becky back to ask her if she may need to talk with agent, Robert **. She was not available even though it was only about 2:30 PM DMT and she has not returned my call as of yet.

There were several hail and wind storms in Georgia this past spring 2009 and the neighbors and I noticed damages to our roofs. I had the unpleasant opportunity to have an adjuster with the worst attitude, like I owed him something. Not pleasant, no handshake or introduction as to who he was, just, "Ma'am, I am here to inspect your roof!" After the inspection, he told me he saw damage but he could not justify my getting a new roof. He said things looked iffy. I asked what did iffy mean. He said there could be damage and maybe not. I asked him if he could be more clear and he said as he walked away that he would have my estimate in 15 minutes. The estimate covered the leak in a closet and the mold in the garage but nothing else! If you get rid of the mold and fix the closet and the roof still leaks, what was accomplished? Another adjuster came out after I complained and I knew they were not going to go against a fellow worker but I thought I'd try. Nothing, folks, the roof still leaks. Thanks, Allstate.

I have asked my agent, Rick **, to assist but he will not return my calls. I plan to file a complaint with the North Carolina Insurance Commission tomorrow. I have the name of a qualified roofing engineer and may be forced to seek legal representation. Allstate is disgraceful and arrogant. The subdivision our home is in (Grand Cascades) was hit by a hail storm on January 5, 2009. We have been given estimates by 3 roofing companies that our roof has hail and wind damage. There are six Homes surrounding us, 1 on each side, total of 2. One in the rear and 3 across the street from us all had roof replacements from hail damage. Two of the homes are also insured by Allstate. They had no problem getting their claims approved.
It is virtually impossible that our home, in the middle of the 6 others, has no damage. Two different adjusters from Allstate came and looked. The 1st one took pictures and reported minimal damage. The second one said that it would "look bad" if he contradicted the other adjuster. However, he approved money to fix the leaks inside the house. If the roof was not leaking, why would you give us money to repair the leaks inside? Is that not an admission of damage? The fact that he did not want to contradict the other adjuster should be proof enough. Another Allstate adjuster told our neighbor that the subdivision was labeled a "Natural Disaster" as a result of this particular storm. That the claims are not going against premiums. It was an "Act of God".
There have been over 200 roofs replaced in the subdivision. I can get a list of all of them and the homeowners’ names. Allstate continues to drag their feet on this. It is now in the hands of an advocate. It has been over a week. The most recent roofer is prepared to state the damage from hail and wind. We continue to have interior damage when it rains. Consequences: ceiling damage on the interior ceilings which Allstate has paid us $1,500.00 to repair. The cost of a roof replacement is approximately $8,000.00 - $11,000.00.

We have had our homeowners insurance with Allstate for the past 22 years. In May, my ceiling in the kitchen started to bow. I called the local handyman to come to my house in order to find out what was causing this. When he cut into the ceiling, water poured out of the opening. Turns out the valve on my toilet, in the bathroom above the kitchen, had been leaking. I had the toilet replaced two years prior and I am sure that the valve was damaged during the installation.
My sub-floor, drywall, kitchen cabinets, tile, vanity, tub, insulation, and back splash all had to be removed, and of course, everything had to be replaced. I called Allstate and they sent an adjuster out to survey the damage. After his assessment, I was told that since the damage was caused by leaking water and was not the result of a burst pipe, they were unable to cover the water or mold damage. I called my insurance agent and he was totally ineffective. He offered to try and get us some help but he never even called back. I also called Allstate in Charlotte and appealed to them to reconsider their decision. Their answer was, "I'm sorry, but your policy doesn't cover this type of loss. You should get the person who installed your toilet to pay for the damage, and by the way, thank you for being a loyal Allstate customer." What a joke.
Allstate just excludes any loss that they have had to pay for in the past. They pick and choose what they will cover. The policy should just list in plain and simple English what they will not cover. My policy is smoke and mirrors and subject to Allstate's interpretation. Also, why does Georgia allow Allstate to exclude this type of coverage? Just think of all the two, three and even four story homes in Georgia that this type of incident could affect. If I could've seen into the floor or ceiling, then I would've fixed the leak. Since it was hidden, there was no way to know, until saturation. I guess I should be happy the ceiling didn't fall on my head.

I just received my homeowner's renewal which shows a substantial increase from last year and I understand about the increased coverage. I know that my credit information is used to determine my rate and a re-assessment of my credit information is available but I would not get a cheaper rate and for me to order my credit report and check for accuracy which I did. Bottom line is that I do not owe enough, i.e. no mortgage information or have high enough credit limits to qualify for a cheaper rate. I am a senior citizen who have paid out two homes, countless automobiles, boats and RV's in the last 45 years.
I now have one credit card with a limit of $7,500 on which I have a balance of about $4,000 and I pay up to $500 per month on it. I was told the amount owed was more than it should be in regard to my credit limit. I have never had a late payment on any account in all these 45 years and actually paid off my home early. And for this, I am penalized because I do not have a bunch of credit cards and do not have any kind of mortgage. What a crock. That is what is wrong here in America and why there are so many foreclosures. PS: I am a former employee of Allstate.

Approximately four years ago, my husband and I bought a boat. We were told to bring the boat to the insurance office for appraisal, which we did. We were told by the insurance personnel that this boat was appraised at $27,000.00. So for the past four years, we have been paying on a $27,000.00 policy. Just this May, my husband was coming back from a fishing trip and was ran off the road. Unfortunately, he did not get the license number, the boat jack-knifed and came off the trailer, totaling the boat. While the Allstate adjuster couldn't find our boat in the blue book, he claimed to find a boat that he felt was comparable and we received only $9,000.00. My question to my insurance agent, Peggy **, was "why was I paying a $27,000.00 policy on a $9,000.00 boat?" She tried to tell me that it depreciated.
Now I understand depreciation, but there is no way that this boat depreciated $18,000.00 in less than four years. She said she was talking to a boat company in Florida that was familiar with these boats to get another quote, that was over a month ago. I've been calling several times every week for over a month, she refuses to return my calls and I feel like I've been severely taken advantage of. I also feel that I've been a victim of fraud. Once the repairs were completed, the insurance company refused to honor a signed contract and refused to give us the money we were told we would receive. The adjuster said he did everything right and we should have gotten the amount reported to Allstate. I would think this would be a breach of contract.
We have had to go to our bank and take out a loan to pay the company that did the repairs on the house. We are out several thousand dollars. My husband and I are both on fixed income. We had a hailstorm that came through our community and damaged our cars and homes. We have been told by several roofing companies that we are in need of a new roof, but have been denied by Allstate. We cannot understand how a hailstorm can damage our car and gutters but not our roof. They too have not been able to fully explain it either. They are trying to get out of paying for a roof. We have paid them thousands of dollars over the years. We have been with them since 1995, which would pay for two or three new roof. They said that you are in good hands with Allstate, but we are finding out that those hands are for taking your money. We are hardworking people who cannot afford to pay Allstate thousands of dollars and pay the repairs as well. That is the reason we pay for hazard insurance.
First, the stress that this has caused is very hard to deal with sometimes. Because we do not have $7,000 to pay for a new roof, we are being told by several roofing companies that our roof will start leaking and if not replaced, it will cause other damage over time. This hailstorm caused holes in our roof, loose shingles, dents on our gutters and dents all over our car. We are still finding damage all through our community. The roofing companies are saying Allstate should be ashamed of themselves because other insurance companies are stepping in to help their customers and Allstate is the only company within our community that is not doing the right thing. Shame on you Allstate!

I had a leak from the heating and A/C system that ran under the kitchen tile and it was not discovered until it started buckling the hardwood floor in the living room. The leak was found and fixed that same day. Allstate said they denied the claim due to “leakage over a period of time.” And since we didn't know about it and we could not fix it until it buckled the hardwood, it was a null and void claim. Stay away from this insurance company. The agent said that no insurance company would cover a leak like this.
So my question to him was that since we fixed it the very day it was discovered, what happens to all us baby-boomers if we have a cabin by the lake and arrive in May to find that a pipe burst during the winter and flooded everything? Nothing would happen. Why in the name of everything holy have we paid faithfully thru the years just to have the first claim we ever made blown off? In doing research, I find that even the employees are talking on-line about how corrupt upper management is. The well bib attached to the side of the house and coming out of the ceiling had frozen and ruptured, we think. So, the window well filled up and it came through the windows. This bib was encased in a heated, insulated wooden box attached to the side of the house. Our policy specifically states that it covers structures attached to the house with the exception of windbreaks, fences and lean-tos. Interestingly enough, this happened to us 8 years ago; it was covered without question. When I brought this up to the agent, he replied, "Well, they shouldn't have paid for it." This is 32 years paying our premiums.

My neighborhood was pelted with severe hailstorms. Houses on all sides of me were covered by their insurance for roof damage. I have divots in my shingles, and I've had 2 roofers meet with Allstate to show them the Hail damage. Allstate refuses to pay. I've paid premiums to Allstate for 20+ years. I thought I was in good hands. They were rude and offensive to me.

On Oct 9 2008, I went to the property that I own and noticed the heat pump had been stolen. I immediately called the police and then I filed a claim with my Insurance (Allstate). The next morning, I got a call from the claims agent about the theft. He asked if the house had been live in over the past 90 days, I said no. He did not ask if we used the house for our own recreation. Which we do, so by me saying no that the house has not been occupied over the past 90 days they told me they will not pay the claim. I explained to my agent that we use the house on some weekends and when family is up they use it also. But I thought he was asking me if it had been occupied consecutively for the past 90 days.

After being insured for over 35 years by Allstate Home Owner Insurance, I just received a notice that Allstate will not renew my policy because they conducted an external inspection of my property and they state it is located in a wildfire hazard area. I live in a housing tract that has complete fire protection as there is a State (CDF) as well as a local fire station approximately four miles away and two fire hydrants within one half block of my structure. They, Allstate, claim all trees within 100 feet of my structure (on all four sides of my house) would have to be removed to qualify for renewal (not all trees in question are even on my property) so consequently (by their new standards), I cannot be considered for Allstate fire insurance in the future. I have always paid my premiums on time over these past many years and have had only one small wind damage claim, about 12 years ago. There have been no fire loss of homes in this tract since I moved in back in 1972... They, Allstate, have no past record of this area that would allow them to cancel my policy.

My house is sinking. Allstate denied my claim twice. I pay my insurance premiums. In the year 2000, I noticed one side of my house is sinking and the walls are leaning out as if they are going to fall. The concrete in the driveway also got wet when it rained even though it didn't rain inside the carport. I contacted ALLSTATE and was told that they will not cover my house as it is just clay shrinkage, and not a sinkhole (I have never heard of clay shrinkage before in my life). The damage is the same as having a sink hole by the way, and it also affected my roof as it started splitting at the same time. That makes sense as the house is pulling to the south. Well, I figured there was nothing I could do about it as I am just regular working person. I certainly can't fix that kind of problem, and funny, none of my neighbors ever had that kind of problem.
In the year 2008, I noticed that my 'clay shrinkage' was becoming worse and the roof getting bad. During this time, my neighbor 2 doors down from me had the same exact problem and his was deemed a sinkhole so his insurance paid for everything. There I was, with my house falling apart. I consulted a lawyer who suggested I open a new case with Allstate, so I did. I had to wait all summer for the engineers to get back to my insurance company about my house. They once again told the agent that it was clay shrinkage and was normal. No, it is not normal for the south side of my house to be getting ready to fall. None of my other neighbors' houses are doing that, so how can it be normal? The roof is also worse and it rains inside, I am so afraid the ceilings are going to fall down.
I bought the house in 1992. I have lived in homes for 46 years and never heard of clay shrinkage, neither has ANYONE else I know, anyone!!! My daughter and I now live with someone else and it is not a good situation at all. We used to have a life and now we live in two rooms as we are not allowed to use electricity etc... There we are (It like being a zombie.). We are absolutely heartbroken. I can't sell my house in the condition it is in, nobody wants it, I just want my house fixed, if I can't get it fixed, I will have to foreclose. I will NEVER EVER buy another house in Florida, that I know. Real Estate agents really need to warn people about this 'clay shrinkage'. Florida is not like other states, there are too many water tables etc.. My life is ruined, absolutely ruined.. I want all my premiums back from Allstate as there was no reason to ever have had house insurance, not in Florida anyway. I also think Allstate owes me punitive damages for me and my daughter. I think Allstate owes me big time.

The Monday after the Fourth of July, I came home with my two children to find my house had caught fire and sustained extreme smoke fire and water damage. I was completely and utterly disheartened. The only home my children had ever know was destroyed. MY husband and self didn’t know what to do other than find somewhere to stay the night and survey the damage the next morning. When we arrived to our house, the fire chief was there. He told us to contact our insurance company. We had nowhere to go and we couldn't even take proper care of our children as we had an eight month old and nothing we needed, only the clothes on our back. We went straight to our local agent and told him what had happened. He said that they were there for us and we believed him.
That week Rogers ** meet with us, took a recorded statement and gave us an emergency assistance check - agreed to come, from the difference of our contents compensation. He told us that there would have to be an investigation due to such a large loss. We agreed to everything they asked of us; we wanted to know ourselves. So I met with the fire investigator while he was removing my window unit air conditioner. I asked him if he had any idea what happened, and immediately he started asking questions about smoking in my house and the people I was with the night it burned. I told him everything I could at the time about the nights events of the date the fire happened. Well our additional living expense paid for our hotel at first then our apartment and rental furniture just as they said they would. We had no reason to assume anything was wrong. That is until I received a call after nine o'clock at night by Wilber ** from Allstate.
He asked me questions about the night of the fire - my kids, my marriage, and other things about our life. I thought it odd and asked him why all the question and he told me he was just making small talk and was very polite so I humored him the best I could. Well I told my husband about the phone call, so he called Mr. ** to ask about our claim. Two minutes into the conversation my husband started acting upset and getting loud. I heard my husband tell Mr. ** we had nothing to gain by our house burning down. After the conversation with him my husband told me that they were saying that the fire wasn't due to naturally occurring causes. I was floored! If it wasn't natural causes that only left one thing someone had set it, and due to what I overheard we were the suspects even though we weren't at home when it happened.
We have lost everything except our lives and now this. We called an attorney for legal advice and he told us that Allstate was going to do everything in its power to find a way to make it look like we did it simply because they did not want to pay out on our claim. I don't get it. I loved my home for five years. I put my sweat, my tears, and my love into that house. I had just spent most of our tax rebate on materials to repair things in my home. I was a week away from having the money to pay the contractor to do the repairs and a few minor upgrades to improve the value of our home. Sure we had filed bankruptcy in the past year. We were drowning in medical bills and credit card dept. But that removed our financial burden. What in the world would we gain by doing it. We were just getting on our feet again. We thought that everything was getting better and then the fire.
Aside from my house being broken into repeatedly having to hunt down my stolen property and then take police with me to lay claim to my stolen property, on more than one occasion including after the fire someone had broken my bathroom window out, stolen yard equipment and vandalized my garden prior to the fire, my insurance company has chosen to investigate us. I lost every picture, every ultrasound tape, every single shred of my children’s past from birth till the fire occurred and they have the nerve to insinuate that we had anything to do with it. Just because we have gone through some hard knocks doesn't make us criminals. However to Allstate I've come to conclude we are. It makes me sick people are vultures and my house has become their prey.
For three months we have been put off by Allstate while my house has sustained further damage due to theft and vandalism and even wind damage. We do not have the funds to protect our home from further damage. WE are fed up. How can it be legal for them to do this. Now we have to go do a deposition under oath and everything, and they haven't even started on our home. They are treating me and my husband like trash. I think that they are the criminals and the way they are treating us is outrageous. I hope they do find out what happened just so we can file a slander suit against them. But most of all I just want to take my children home. My three year old son cries every time I stop to check the mail because he doesn't understand why we are home but he can't go inside. I don't know how to explain it to him no matter how I try. We should have been home already. Now we can only assume we may never go home.
WE have obtained a lawyer and my mom told me to fight to the death for what is right. We have also filed a formal complaint with our state insurance commissioner. I pray it helps because from what we have been told so far things could get ugly because Allstate doesn't want to hold up their end of the claim. Allstate customers beware and hope that you don't have a mortgage or bankruptcy looming over your head should you ever need the policy you have been paying on for years. They will make your life a nightmare after you lose everything you love and try to make you out to be the scum of the earth if they can. I will fight and if you buy their insurance you may need to one day as well.

My area (NW Suburbs of Chicago) got hit with a storm on July 2, 2008 and most insurance companies classified it as a catastrophe area. After having 20 or so contractors tell me I had hail damage. I called my Allstate agent and was referred to the National Storm line. They sent out an adjuster in Mid August and my contractor was present to do a walk around. She didn't say much walking around my house and for the roof, she never got off the ladder, basically looked at a 4'x4' area on my garage. She then said she would come back with a supervisor to review the hail damage claim. They came back when I wasn't there and said there isn't hail damage on the siding or roof.
They gave me a check for 500 to cover dents in my air conditioner and cutters. The best part, when they came back to walk around my house, they couldn't have walked around my whole yard because my gates were locked. My fenced in yard covers half my house. I live on a corner lot and my house was most exposed and got the most hail damage. Also, every house in a 10 house radius of mine got roofs replaced and siding done. But my house was denied. I called and complained. They sent a second adjuster out over 2 weeks ago. He walked around and said I have damage and he doesn't know what they looked at. But also said, field operations were already out there and it will be hard to get additional funds.
The 2nd adjuster never looked at the roof, but did come inside to see my new water damage and he took pictures. It didn't rain for a month in my area after the storms, but once it did, I noticed water damage in my upstairs bedroom and kitchen. He told me that someone else will come back and look at the roof, but no one ever did and no one called. In the last week, I've called the adjuster several times, my agent and Allstate field operations, but no one will call me back. And all the customer service reps tell me to call my agent or adjuster. I get the feeling Allstate has to denied x% of claims, and I was chosen. Allstate may still step and pay for damage, but so far it doesn't look like it. I just can't believe no one calls back. Every contractor did tell me Allstate is the hardest insurance to work with for Homeowner claims.

In April of 2008 I filed a claim with AllState for hail damage on my roof. I was not home but allegedly an adjuster came out, with a roofer of his choosing, and stated that I had no hail damage. I took their word for it and that was the end of it. On a side note let me say that I live in a subdivision of approximately 30 homes. My house was the 7th in the neighborhood. I would guess that about half of the neighborhood has had roofs replaced due to hail damage from the April storm.
Fast forward to September of 2008. I have covered a deck and was in the process of getting estimates from roofers to put shingles on it. Three roofers brought it to my attention that I have a significant amount of hail damage. I then called AllState to reopen my claim. I talked with Kyle Wood who is a manager of the adjusters. He informed me that his adjuster had already been out here in April and that he was not reopening the claim and that no one would be coming back out. He just laughed at the fact that I believe I have significant hail damage.
The consequences are that currently I have a severely hail damaged roof. I have been paying my premiums and now that I have an issue AllState is refusing to step up to the plate. I am going to have to incur legal expenses in order to pursue this matter.

On June 7, 2008, A tornado hit my small suburban town. There was wind damage, hail damage, and rain damage. We had a contractor look at our roof after experiencing rain water staring to leak into the home. We were not aware we could or should file a claim, so we just purchased buckets, wood and other items because of the leaks whenever it rained. We have had a massive rain storms here with flooding widespread. My roof has extensive damage outside and inside.
My neighbor has Statefarm, his claim went through, we have Allstate, our claim was denied. We need help!
We have our mortgage company pay the full premium every April (for 6 years), we are thinking of dropping Allstate. The economic consequences are ridiculous. We have a hole in our roof from flying debre, so raccoons have taken up in our attic space. My ceiling is caving in on the first and third floor. We purchased this home six years ago, so Allstate says it's normal wear and they won't cover it. The agent even went so far as to say the storm just sped up the progress of deterioration so they won't cover it.
This is extremely stressful, we have three children in our home and I am a stay at home mom back in school working on my degree to become a Clinical Psychologist. We need legal and financial help

We do have one customer who is having a tough time and it seems to me that he has been wronged by All-state Ins. A storm came through in June and his water stopped working. He called and our technicians found his pump needed to be replaced. On examining the pump and taking it apart, Dennis (owner) determined that it was an old pump, but that it had been damaged by lightning. [He] said the windings in the motor were shorted together and thus the pump motor had locked down. When contacted by the customer's insurance company (All-state), [he] was honest in speaking with an All-State rep. He said he couldn't say with 100% certainty that the pump was hit by lightning, but that lightning damage was his best professional opinion as to why the pump stopped working. All-state must have picked up on the fact that the pump was old and saw a chance to get out of paying the claim.
The company paid to send the pump to an engineer, who said it was old and not damaged by lightning. All-state denied our client's claim and now he is left with a $1,900.00 bill. [We] spoke with the engineer hired by All-state who admitted the pump could have been hit by lightning but he is paid by All-state so he determined it was just worn out. The pump was old, but it could have worked for several more years or for one more day. Who knows? However, Dennis has installed pumps for almost 40 years and he stands by his finding that the final blow to the pump motor was from the storm. Our client said there's no use to fight All-state.
It makes me angry that this large company is denying a legitimate claim -- especially since this man does not have much money but he has paid his premiums faithfully. I argued with the administrative manager for All-state's southeastern property claims division yesterday on behalf of [our client], but he didn't really want to listen. Dennis did insist that All-state's engineer send Mr. Jones pump back to him, so we do still have it as evidence. Is there a legal foot to stand on here. Thank you.
[Client] cannot afford to pay his bill [for well drilling company for repairs].

Hello. I am writing on behalf of my mother is almost 70 years old. My mother called Allstate 3 weeks ago in regard to a personal injury lawsuit that was filed against her. She was told at that time that there was nothing that Allstate could do to help her. I have talked to several lawyers since then who are willing to take my mother's case and who mentioned filing a case against Allstate due to their lack of responding and representing my mother in her case. My mother was never notified of a case pending or anything until a few weeks ago when she was summoned to reveal her assets to the court.
Now there is a lien against her property. A default judgment was entered against my mother for not appearing in court because as I stated she did not have any knowledge of a lawsuit. She has been loyal in paying her premiums for the past 15 years and now when she needs representation from Allstate they are telling her that there is nothing that they can do...huh?
I was told by legal counsel that Allstate attorneys need to file a motion to get this judgment overturned for many reasons. Legally Allstate should provide my mother with some type of legal counsel and we are not sure why my mother was told that there is nothing that Allstate can do to help her. If we do not hear, back from someone in the next day or two we will be forced to bring a lawsuit against Allstate.
The court took all my mother's money from her accounts. How can someone sue a person and be awarded a judgment without evere serving the person that is being sued? I just don't get that at all.

On 5/20/2008 our neighborhood was hit by a tornado. It has been declared a disaster area by the Federal Government. Our roof was damged by the hail. Allstate to which I pay for a DELUXE Homeowners policy ( a lot of good that has done me) has fought me tooth and nail over what they consider damage.Of the 380 homes in the neighborhood over 75% so far have recieved a new complete new roof and new roofs being installed daily. State Farm requires 8 hale hits per side of roof to qualify for a new roof and Allsate requires 14. Quite a difference in criteria!
I have had three different roofing companies come look at my roof and all three including Allstate themselves say the whole roof is damged. Allstate however says that the back side of my house is not damaged enough to meet their criteria as to be replaced and should be repaired. So they have agreed to replace 3/4 my roof with new shingles and patch the remaining 1/4. The front of my roof is now going to be a different color than the rear due to the age differance of the shingles. My homeowners assocation is telling me this will go against the covenants of the neighborhood and I will be in violation and subject to fines until I pay to have both sides match.
The only people in my neighborhood that are having problems getting new roofs are Allstate customers. Everyone of my immediate neighbors has either recieved a new roof or is scheduled to get one in the coming weeks. I am filing a complaint with my states insurance commissioner for this vast difference in required criteria and just plain bad faith in Allstates business practices.
My home is going to take a huge loss in value should I want to sell due to the fact that my roof is going to be different colors in several different places.
