I filed a claim with Allstate over our roof which very much needs to be fixed. Jan 27 2015 they cancelled my policy. We started with Allstate insuring our cars then added a Homeowners policy. Altogether we had been with Allstate for 23 or 24 years. We were looking for car insurance & a man we work with told us about Greg **, an Allstate Agent who at that time was located in Benbrook, but now in Burleson Texas. We were so glad when he moved closer it was so convenient if I had to make a payment or want to talk in person, & the receptionists were amazing which they still are.

Greg made sure to tell us anytime we want a homeowner's policy to contact him and they would fix us up & do a bundle with cars & house. It would be cheaper so we did. You know I guess we didn't read fine print that they won't be there for you when you file a claim because buddy, they're not. At first Greg answered my calls then I couldn't get him to return my calls. I even talked to his son one day thinking it was him & asked if he would have Greg return my call, but to no avail. I guess cheaper isn't always better, because you get what you pay for. Which Allstate is high priced anyway. I've even referred people to him. That won't happen again.

I feel the Agent is just as responsible as the company they're representing. They need to know what they're selling when they go in business. I've read so many reviews on Allstate it makes me sick. I know now I should have read the reviews before I took the homeowner's policy. They put you between a rock & a hard place. They sure know what they're doing, because without getting your roof fixed no one else will take you. If you had the money to fix your roof in the first place why have an insurance company like Allstate? We have tried patching but didn't work, still leaked in until someone put up tarp and pieces of wood. We're not a roofer or it would be fixed. That's why we have insurance. They sure fight people hard not to pay for property damage but they won't blink an eye to pay out millions of dollars for their wonderful commercials. Sad, Sad, Sad!!!

I live in California and have two policies with Allstate. Called for a quote for a house I was in process of purchasing. They quoted me a yearly quote of $838.00, which was paid in full through Allstate 10 days later when property closed escrow. Found out later Allstate can no longer issue homeowner's policies in state of California and sold me a policy with National General Insurance. Never advised me policy was not with Allstate and did not find out until policy arrived two weeks later after paying up front.

Two weeks after receiving policy, advised by National General I would have to pay $130.00 or be cancelled. Advised by Allstate that National General had raised their prices after giving me quote and collecting my money and I would have to pay the additional fee. Said they were sorry but since policy did not take effect until 10 days after quote was given they could do that. Paid the $130.00. Received second notice from National General saying I had to pay an additional $230.00 or be cancelled since a home inspection on my property revealed my structure to be worth more than original estimate.

Called Allstate and found out that National General indicated my property was 330 square feet more than my true square footage. Found out later that National General includes garage, patios, etc. when calculating square footage. Allstate should not be selling other insurance policies to their customers and misleading their customers to believe the policy is with Allstate. Allstate will give you a low-ball price and beware whomever they push you onto for homeowner's insurance because that insurance company will not honor the price quoted but will immediately raise the price as soon as the policy is issued and the money collected. Allstate will not help you other than be the broker to collect your money and tell you sorry after the fact.

I have never had an insurance claim in 43 years. I had called an adjuster after I pulled into my driveway, during a severe rain and wind storm. The shingles on my roof were blowing off. I received a call from the adjuster the next morning. He stated there was nothing he could do for me as my deductible was $11,000.00 or 5% of the value of my home. They valued my house at $221,000.00. The house and land are appraised at 139,500.00. I'm not sure if there is anyone in my neighborhood that has a roof that expensive. There are definitely not any houses valued near $200,000.00.

I think Allstate has lost sight of the middle class consumer, as my insurance cost have risen well above $2000.00 a year on a $139,000.00 home and property. I will be cancelling all insurance with Allstate, as I have never received a safe driver check - I had an accident 43 years ago. They talk like they are hot ** on a stick, but really are a cold ** on a twig. Thanks for nothing Allstate.

The roof on my house has more than one leak and I've called Allstate to come and take a look at the roof and they told me that the work is only worth 500.00 to repair. And I can do it myself or get some to do it. Their insurance adjusters are very rude. They never went in the attic to take pictures of any damage there. Allstate insurance adjusters didn't care about the service they provide to their customers. I personally can't climb on the roof, I have metal pins I'm both hips and I have a fear of curtain heights. I'm very disappointed with them. And they told me that it’s normal wear and tear and there nothing they can do.

Just out of nowhere, a 20% rate increase. When I took out the policy they told me that was a fixed premium. Doesn't seem to be that way.

Back in my home, however still fighting with them about my clothing which was in my closet which was in direct contact with area where fire started. They decided to try and clean my clothing at about $9,000 per cleaning attempt. They tried twice, yes twice, almost $18,000 and yet still smells like smoke to me. They're insisting it's fine. Also had a previous medical condition in which I obtained a letter from my doctor stating that in his medical opinion he didn't want me wearing anything that had been exposed to a fire or to any chemicals used to clean those items. Allstate still will not come to an agreement and just pay for replacement of these items. But they had no problem paying to try and clean them for about $18,000. And I have an attorney and they still refuse to do the right thing.

They claimed that it was not wind damage so they are not going to pay. Now in my way of thinking the wind blew the flashing away which caused the water to get into the roof. So it is wind damage. Am I wrong?

Allstate incorrectly canceled our Homeowners Policy when we were canceling our Auto Insurance. We were at significant risk without coverage. When we did cancel our homeowner’s policy, we receive a bill in the mail for $59 approximately a month later. We contacted the local office in Oneida NY, Kim Caro Allstate inquiring about the reason for the charge. They could not tell us and said they would look into it and call us back.

Well, no call back; rather, a person from Allstate's Customer Resolution Center called and left a message. I called back the same day and was put into voicemail. No call back from this person for over a week, so I call them back. I was able to speak to the POC directly and she explained the reason for the $59 charge. Apparently, when they incorrectly canceled our policy, we were issued an electronic credit back to our card. Now Allstate was looking for it back since they reinstated our policy for the last month of the annual period. Keep in mind we paid the total annual fee in October 2013. We were in the process of verifying this credit; however, 2 days after talking with the Customer Resolutions Center POC, our $59 charge was sent to a collection agency. Most likely sent to the collection agency prior to this date because, the collection agency letter was dated 2 days after I spoke to the POC.

My wife and I were a customer of Allstate for almost 20 years, and this is how they treat their long term customers. I am so glad that we decided to switch to a different provider and thank God we never needed to rely on them for any major claims.

I have a condominium homeowners policy with Allstate for over 13 years without a single claim ever filed. I had a water pipe brake and was leaking water into my kitchen via an interior wall. After calling a plumber to fix the pipe, I was left with 3 holes in my drywall to locate the source of the leak, a 3'x1' hole in the outside stucco to access the pipe, and extreme moister on the inside kitchen wall requiring the removal of the drywall, crown molding, and windowsill. Fans and a dehumidifier were set up for three days to properly dry out the area.

I was also left with a complete hole through the wall. If standing outside, you could look through the stucco hole and into my kitchen. After filing a claim with Allstate for interior (kitchen) damage, they denied it 2 days later without ever sending an adjuster to examine the damage, explaining that it was an HOA issue. Of course the HOA refuses because all plumbing is my responsibility. Now I'm stuck with over $2,100.00 in repairs costs. Not to mention both Allstate claims adjusters were very condescending, and told me to take the issue to court if I felt compelled.

My husband and I purchased a home in September 2014, and chose Allstate for our homeowners insurance. We closed on the home Sept 12th, but we did not actually have possession of the house until Sept 26th. We received an EMAIL notice dated Sept 24th that said an on-site inspection of the home indicated some damaged roof shingles (we have a slate roof) that needed to be repaired or the policy would be cancelled. We contacted the insurance agent to tell her that we were not even in possession of the property yet, but that we would try to have a roofing contractor come out to give us an estimate.

Since the roof is slate, and not all roofing contractors work with slate, it is challenging under the best of circumstances to find someone who is willing to come out on short notice to provide an estimate. Given that this is a very small job (less than 10 slate tiles will need replaced), and given that we had rain for several weeks at the beginning of October, I was not able to get a contractor to even look at the roof until Oct 17th.

We received a cancellation notice from Allstate (that was also sent to our mortgage company), cancelling our policy for failing to complete the required repairs. The fact that we had less than 30 days to complete the repairs, especially given the fact that we were not even in possession of the property when we received the first notice, is extremely unreasonable. We have been in contact with our agent many times in this past month to keep her updated on our progress in the repairs, but still they chose to cancel our insurance over 10 damaged slate shingles...

As so many other homeowners have stated on this site it was our experience that Allstate uses contrived issues to cancel homeowner's insurance after a claim has been filed. We have been a loyal customer of Allstate's for 38 years and have only made the one claim mentioned here for this house in which we've lived for the past 16 years. Basically what occurred is that Allstate informed us that they were going to do a home inspection in March of 2014 (one year after our homeowner's claim had been filed. Small claim for $1,500 for a break-in). The results of the inspection stated that we needed to replace a rain gutter, cut down a tree that was too close to the home, and remove some ivy. We complied with all their requirements at an expense of $824 by June 26, 2014 well before the deadline of Aug. 12, 2014. Upon re-inspection and photo documentation the agent indicated that all seemed well. We did not hear from Allstate, Baciocco Bros, of Sacramento for several weeks.

I then called to inquire as to the status of our homeowner's policy. They informed us that the policy was being cancelled for non-compliance with the fix-up requirements. I informed them that the repairs had been made and that their own agent had photographic evidence of the repairs. They were not interested in discussing the issue and added the new requirement that the house needed to be spray washed. It became obvious at that point that the "vegetation issue" was just a contrivance to cancel our insurance. Our inquiries with friends and other insurance companies reveals that Allstate seems to use contrived issues as excuses to cancel homeowner's policies. The more we looked into this issue the more we found this to be true not only in California but across the country. We have written statements to the Calif. Legislature Committee on Insurance, the Better Business Bureau of Sacramento, and the Calif. Insurance Commissioner regarding this practice.

I had a flood in my basement somewhere around June 30th of this year. I contacted Allstate because I added ten thousand dollars of flood insurance in 2010 after my basement flooded at that time. It was a nightmare dealing with Allstate @ that time. Currently it's a nightmare dealing with them now. I have been told Allstate would not pay for mold removal because I can't prove that I had the work completed in 2010. I find this confusing because the work in 2010 was completed in phases. During each phase of the project, a Allstate adjuster came out to take pictures to give approval for the contractor to move to the next phase. There were three phases that were completed.

Allstate is able to tell me three checks were issued; however, when I state what about the documentation that accompanied these approval, I am told it is my responsibility to provide proof. I have no proof. All of my proof is underwater. I also lost a lot of personal items, clothing, furniture, etc. I have a brand new washer/dryer. Allstate is telling me I need to have a tech to come out before they can honor this claim. I have also been told that all of the clothing I lost should be taken to the laundry or cleaners.

When I ask where is all of this money coming from, Allstate suggest I pay out of pocket up front and they will see if they can reimburse me. Well, I am not in a financial situation to honor this request. I am not looking to make money. I want what is cover in my policy. I already have moved forward in having the mold removed because I don't think it's healthy for my family to live in mold. To this date, I have received one check for 4,000 dollars. I am already 3,000 dollars in the red. What I am asking is for Allstate to provide 2010 documentation and pay me for my lost items. This is why I pay insurance. I have had a policy with them for over 14 years. What is the problem? Two incidents in 14 years? I think they are ahead of the game.

Today is July 4th, 2014. I had a fire on December 4th, 2013. I am no closer to having my house rebuilt then I was in December. The home is in West Orange NJ. The fire originated from my car parked in the garage which was covered under Met Life. Met Life settled the claim to replace the vehicle in weeks and paid to repair my wife's car due to the fire. In my opinion Met Life is a very good company, they paid thousands and without a hiccup. The Allstate adjuster that I should not name is ridiculous in his estimates, and should have his permit to adjust in NJ investigated. His first estimate took 6 weeks and the second 5 weeks at an 8 % bump which is still too low. Seven months later, I met with 20 different contractors and got about 53 estimates for repairs from different tradesman. I too have a general contracting license and was a land developer. The Allstate amount of $277,000.00 is inadequate since the check was only for $219,700.00 since they were holding $57,000.00 as recoverable depreciated value which can only be redeemed within 180 days. The problem is it will cost $329,000.00 to repair a 50 year old custom built home.

The home was originally built in 1957 for a dentist and then my in-laws bought it 6years later. My wife grew up in this home since she was 8 years old, and upon the death of her mother I sold my previous home and bought this one. It is a spectacular home that sits on the first Watching Mountain Chain and overlooks NY. My view is from the Verrazano to midtown Manhattan. The $329,000.00 is my estimate if I were to GC and hire out tradesman, everyone else is $375 to $397,000.00. The $277,000.00 figure comes out to $110.00 per square foot to rebuild which is fine if I lived in Nebraska whereas my $329,000.00 is at $126.00 per square foot which is on the low side for NJ, but can be done without cutting corners. They are suppose to replace according to its prefire condition, which they have not and appear not to be willing unless I litigate. The house had plaster walls and ceilings that were 1-1/8 " thick and custom moldings and doors that must therefore be milled. They want me to rebuild as a Home Depot house instead of what I had.

The facts are that I have the money to rebuild myself and I intend to litigate under bad faith. This pledge I now make that If I am successful in securing a bad faith settlement I will donate everything over my cost to rebuild and attorneys fees, to the Sandy Relief Fund to help those that cannot protect themselves from these unfair type entities. In NJ a bad faith settlement can be treble damages. I have turned the matter over to the NJ. Banking and Insurance Commission for their review. I am so outraged I can hardly contain my anger. The people in NJ and throughout should look at their policies and no longer do business with Allstate of NJ Insurance. They are not the good hands people that they represent. I have come to find out that this company is the worst for paying claims. This information has come from every contractor that I interviewed as well as the architects and attorneys that I have talked to. They all have had problems with Allstate of NJ.

My recommendation to all, is to cancel your policy with Allstate and find a better company. The Met life policy that I mentioned earlier for my vehicles was because I was moving my vehicles and home and businesses to Met Life. The policies for both my car and home were much better, the coverage was almost double and the cost was less. Due to a $1,500.00 previous claim in 2011, that I paid $1,200.00 and Allstate paid $500.00 precluded me from moving the house policy until January of 2014 about 1 month after the fire.

When we received our renewal on our homeowner's insurance, it included several errors on the home description as well as a HUGE increase in premium. When we contacted the agent, he said they don't make mistakes and they were not interested in correcting the policy. Since then, it has taken many phone calls both by us and our NEW insurance company to even get the policy cancelled. When we tried to contact Allstate to get our problems resolved, their toll free number just took us back to the same agency that was the problem. We have been treated more rudely by Allstate than any other company in our lives. As of today, we have finally confirmed cancellation of the policies but I do not trust that the issue has been completely resolved. When we told the agent we hoped we would never have to deal with their agency again, he told us the feeling is mutual.

My home is in Western North Carolina. It was recently subjected to explosives damage from an adjacent property. My Builder's estimate of repairs is over $9,000. My Allstate claim stated very clearly that my concrete house foundation, floor, and chimney had been split from the concussion or tremors caused from massive explosions from adjacent property. One wall was split 5 times and the concrete floor split twice from side to side. Allstate sent a consulting structural engineer. His report erroneously stated that the splits in my foundation wall were caused from lack of placement of cushioning material in the back-fill... not from the explosions.

This was untrue. The back-fill was placed properly and approved by the County Inspections Dept. when my house was built 7 years prior. He also stated that since the house did not have sheet-rock breakage that concrete breakage "could not happen" from explosives. He attributed the floor breaks to normal settling… even though some cracks were 1/4" wide. I have since consulted with other Structural Engineers whom stated that "the non-break of sheet-rock statement" was especially preposterous.

Allstate's Consulting Engineer did not even inspect the chimney damage from the roof, where concrete pieces were still evident. He also made the statement (with no justification) that the chimney flue was not damaged unsafely. My builder had prescribed repair by the insertion of a stainless liner. Allstate accepted the consulting engineer's statements as fact even after I pointed out the false statements. I followed up with a request for higher level review and got the same answer... rejected claim - based entirely on the previous wrong statement and assumptions of the consultant. This company is supposed to be "Top-of the-line" in Insurers… but, let’s hope it loses many accounts with actions such as these.

In June of 2013, a limb from my my neighbor's dead tree fell across my yard and on to my fence damaging it. This occurred during a storm. I filed the claim, sent pictures and was reimbursed for the damage. The adjuster agreed that the tree was dead and assured me that they would request him to cut the tree down. Well, in February of 2014, another storm occurred and the same dead tree dropped another limb across my fence, damaging it again. This time it was on the same side further along the same length of the fence .The adjuster came to look at it. I explained to him that the fence had been damaged twice by the same tree in almost the same area. I then pointed out the different areas. He suggested that they replace the entire length of fencing. I said OK. - No problem, since chain link fencing is easier to replace in standard lengths. I thought his word was policy since he suggested it. It was his idea, not mine.

Apparently, he wrote the report up as an attempt to file a duplicate claim. Clearly, as indicated by the pictures, the fence was damaged in 2 different areas at 2 different times of the year, Late spring and winter. Again, I pointed out the 2 different areas of damage. Since when did a 2nd occurrence in the same or near same area automatically mean that the 2nd claim was a fraud? The adjuster should have written up the damaged area only, rather than pull a bate -and- switch suggestion that he could use to deny the claim!

On June 2013, my air conditioner went out. I called several air conditioner and heating repair companies. They all (6) told me that I needed a new unit. My unit is over 14 years old, the freon for my unit was very expensive because they do not manufacture my unit anymore, and that it would be best to replace it. They all agreed that it was struck by lightning. This happened to a neighbor's unit a couple of years back and he said yes, my insurance company replaced my unit. He has (Liberty Mutual), I believe. I was like ok, I'm sure Allstate will take good care of me, after all I am in "Good Hands" right - not!!!

I called them and they treated me as if I had done something wrong. The agent handling my case was God forsaken awful. He didn't care one bit about helping me resolve my problem. He only asked questions to try to get out of them replacing my unit. He was asking me question that I could not answer about the unit and what happened to it. Really??? I am a single middle age woman who has no clue about these things. That's why I called so many different companies and when they all were saying the same thing and they are the professionals. Then if he had questions, I felt as if he should have been asking them. He sent out an Engineer and he said that the unit could be repaired instead of replaced. I was shocked!!

I never received a report of their findings. I had to keep calling the claims agent for an explanation, and after several unsuccessful attempts, I called my local agent back and he said that I had a repair first policy and not a replace policy??? Ok, my bad I wasn't aware of this. However, I felt as this is why they were recommending that it be repaired instead of replaced, and also why I had not received any response from the person handling my claim. I was so disappointed. I cried. I was an emotional wreck as I had been in the hot Georgia heat for 4 months now trying to get this resolved. They gave me some funds to get it repaired. I had a $1000 deductible.

First of all only one company agreed to even touch it. I had it repaired finally without any guarantees that it would last - as it did not. Yet again this year I am yet in a sweat box again. I called the company that repaired it, and they did not want to discuss it as they had already told me that it would not work possibly. I called Allstate and had to speak with that same rude know it all claims agent and of course he was again asking me all of these questions like repaired it myself with a finger nail file and eyeliner pencil. I told him that the unit was not working and asked if they could send someone else out to see what was done because the company would not come back out to take a look at it.

He was so rude to me. He made comments like it is not Allstate’s fault that I chose that company and had someone repair the unit who didn't do a good job. He stated that I selected them not Allstate. As if they gave me some choices of companies in my area and I refused them. In fact, they told me that I had to find someone to repair it. This was not the case. They did not suggest anyone!! I am exhausted to say the least. They are not willing to help me at all. Allstate is telling me to yet again to have someone come out to take a look at it at my expense because it could be a different problem.

I am changing companies after over 15 years on this home and over 15 years on another home. Total of a 30 year customer, and when I needed them to come through for me like my payments every month for many, many, many years have come through for them to assist whomever they chose to help, or to pay employees to deny claims, whatever their procedure is. I can't take this abuse any more. I would not recommend their services to anyone. I would not want them to insure my cat's litter box or a bird house as the customer service was jacked up and the worst I've ever received from an insurance company that has been around for years advertising that you are in good hands - implying that they care for and take care of their customer. This has not been my experience.

This home is under 900 sq. ft. and in a low income area. 13 years later I was searching her account on Allstate's website and found an itemized list for previously unknown coverage. This coverage included items such as firearms, watercraft, rugs, manuscripts, trading cards, business property on/off premise (?) among many other completely unnecessary/excessive coverages. THIS ITEMIZED COVERAGE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE ANNUAL POLICY DOCUMENTS!

Furthermore, many of these items require, by LAW, registration, proof of insurance or certified appraisals for the coverage to be valid. This documentation was never obtained or even REQUESTED! Making this coverage invalid, yet my mother was still paying for it for over 13 years! This is FRAUD. Every year (for over 13 years) that Allstate renewed this policy they committed fraud/theft! My mother contacted Allstate requesting a refund for the overpayment of this invalid coverage. Allstate refused, stating it was included in the "Deluxe" package she had.

My mother informed them that she had not requested nor authorized a "Deluxe" package. She had not even been informed that the policy she had was a "Deluxe" package. Allstate's representative took it upon himself to choose this policy for my mother without informing her of the details of the policy or acquiring her informed authorization, and with the full knowledge that the home to be insured was under 900 sq. ft. and in a low income area. Allstate refused to acknowledge that this policy had not been authorized by my mother.

When questioned why Allstate had not (for over 13 years) requested the required documentation to make the coverage valid every Allstate representative contacted (most recently Matthew ** and Christi **) refused to even address the issue, cutting off all communication. This has been going on for over a year, causing my mother a considerable amount of distress, to the point of affecting her health. The agent sounded knowledgeable and offering me rates that would save me and my family over $1500 per year which is significant savings. My wife and I did our due diligence and comparisons and decided to go with this Allstate agent's company.

We called the agent back and gave him the good news but my wife and I were very clear on our requests and expectations. We wanted all 4 cars insured as well as all 4 drivers which included my two sons and our home. We were assured from the agent that all requests would be no issue. About 90 days into the policy we noticed our boys' names were not on the policy and called the agent, who assured me it was an oversight and would be immediately taken care of. Again I followed up in another 90 days and was assured the issue was resolved.

About 8 months into the second year my oldest son informed me he was moving to Iowa and I told him to get his own insurance locally in Iowa. I called my agent and dropped the car and driver from policy. When my son tried to acquire insurance in Iowa every company was quoting him outrageous rates and when he asked why they said it was due to a lapse in coverage. I called my Allstate agent who again stated it was on oversight and would resolve the issue. He called me three days later to inform me the issue had been resolved. I was very happy with that customer service. I let my son know Allstate sent a letter showing no lapse in coverage and he was able to secure insurance at a much more reasonable rate.

Approximately 60 days later I received an invoice for $780 for adding my son to the policy, they were back billing me for the year. I called the agent back and reminded him I had dropped my son from the policy and he informed me that because my son wasn't originally on the policy when they inquired to have him added Allstate then billed for him. When I questioned Allstate agent that he was supposed to be and I assumed he was on the policy from day 1 he simply said "I really don't have an answer for you on that." Are you kidding me?

Now Allstate is pursuing me for that back billing and I received a call from a collection agency on a SUNDAY at my home. There is a strong principle here. I had a policy with Allstate and from day 1 I was very clear all cars, all drivers, and the agent played the odds to save money and lost. I have since left Allstate and would not recommend this company and certainly not this agent.

Agent called about possible nonrenewal due to moss on my siding. The agent advised that the condition was noticed in August as part of a random home inspection (of which I was never advised); however, I was not informed until mid-January (less than 60 days before renewal). Was told that siding needed to be powerwashed (in the dead of winter) to clean up the moss. Asked for copies of the inspection report, photos, etc. Asked for second inspection (with notice). No follow up from Allstate as to when this would happen (or if it would happen). I have had this policy for all of my homes for over 25 years. Never late on premiums (which increase every year). Only three claims in that time. Agent tried (in same call) to get me to bundle auto insurance. Seems unfair, predatory, and clearly an unfair business practice with little or no recourse on the part of the long-term customers. So much for companies acknowledging customer loyalty.

I owned a property that recently got sold in Plano TX. I have had Allstate for a long time. Although every year they raised the prices for one reason or another I kept renewing and paying on-time. We leased the house in 2010 and in May of 2012, a slow moving hail storm that produced an inch size hail damaged the entire neighborhood including our roof. At the time of the storm, the tenant or the management company we used didn't inform us that the whole neighborhood is getting their roof repaired or replaced.

In Sept of 2012, I had an inspection done and was told that roof has sustained quite a bit of damage due to hail. I filed a claim with Allstate and someone came to survey and reported back to me that there is no visible damage. I then got a roofer to look at it and was told that the roof needs to be replaced. I re-opened my previous claim and demanded that a different team is sent and I would have my roofer present at that time. The second team arrived and refused to talk to the roofers and told me that nothing is wrong with the roof and these roofers were trying to sell me a new roof. I told them that the whole neighborhood got a new roof because of the damage and such but I got nowhere with that.

I read numerous reports about Allstate not paying for many claims when the storm Sandy hit New Jersey among many other negative feedback. At that time I realized this company is dishonest and cannot be trusted in time of need. In 2013 I dumped Allstate and got Amica for home and auto insurance and pretty happy with their low rates and exceptional customer service.

Last month I was selling my property and the buyer had an inspection done. Once again, the roof came up and I was asked to replace the roof. Between my agent and the buyer's agent, we had six different roofers checking the roof and each one of them indicated that the roof needs to be replaced. One of them showed me weather related scientific data to prove the hail storm took place on May 4th of 2012 and the roof is damaged. I opened the case with Amica and was told that there is hail damage on the roof. But when they followed the scientific data, they found out that May 4th 2012 was the last time a hail storm was recorded and since Allstate was the insurance at that time they denied the claim. Amica did tell me that if those dates were covered by them, they would have paid for a new roof.

Once again, I had to get Allstate to come for this claim. This time, I had Robert **, the roofer from Windsor Pro Roofing helping me with the claim. He told me that he has worked with Allstate before and he was pretty certain that due to all the scientific evidences Allstate will pay for the roof. As usual, Allstate denied the claim and didn't agree with the roofer. He was told that Allstate have a different criteria for roof repair. I guess they won't do anything unless it is all gone... The house was under contract and I had only one week before closing so I had to pay for the roof out of my pocket. I wish I had someone like Robert ** helping me out with scientific evidence in 2012 so I could have filed a lawsuit against these thieves.

Please Please Please, do yourself a favor and for your own safety, DO NOT BUY any of their products. Because when it's their turn to pay back, you won't get a dime out of them. Also, they are really not cheaper than other insurance companies. Their advertisements are all deceiving and I think their dishonesty should be considered a crime and they should be prosecuted.

I asked at the time if they could go ahead and do inspection to make sure they could insure the home. Was told they only did that after you signed up to take out insurance. On Dec. 17, 2013, I signed agreement to take out insurance on home and automobiles. On Jan. 15, 2014, after having just made first quarter payment for homeowners on Jan. 11, 2014, I received cancellation notice. This was not based on any excessive claims (1 in 28 years) Nor bad credit report (Excellent) was not due to anything normal. Reason was they declared my home a berm home. Agent was great. She did all she could to get underwriters to review to see why they was so set they would not insure to no avail.

Have never had in the 28 years since I built my home had it classified in this manner. Now I am having problems finding anyone who will insure it once they see report on why it was canceled. This could have been prevented if they had did inspection as I asked. I would have stayed where I was at. I feel I am being discriminated against because I don't live in a multi-million dollar home. I still question the definition of a berm home as I don't feel mine is a true berm home. I know if they hold firm I hope anyone and everyone who has insurance with them takes a long look at your policy because if this is how they operate (taking your money and then canceling 3 days later) it should make all of us wonder what they would do to kept from paying a claim.

Rental property was broken into, and copper pipes were stolen. In addition, there was damage to the basement entry doors. Per Allstate since I didn't have a Burglary endorsement on the policy they won't pay for the replacement of the pipes. The policy declaration page states that the structure is covered, so when I asked if the pipes were not considered a part of the structure, my agent said they were until they got stolen. If the loss of the pipes was a result of a theft, then it isn't covered. They said that they would pay for the damage to the doors.

When I got the estimate, after they depreciated it and took out the deductible, they sent a check for $400.00. Repairs to the house will cost upwards of $5000. The agent said that it was out of his hands and there was nothing that he could do since he didn't write the policy and has no idea what the conversation would have been with the original agent (He recently took over the account.)

This is the second claim that I have filed them. Last year I had a lightning strike and they told me that the policy didn't cover that at all. I asked the agent what the policy does cover, I was not able to get a clear answer. He said that he would research and call me back which of course didn't happen, so I had to call him, only to get the same answer. "I agree with you. I don't think it's right but there is nothing that I can do," Really?? I am so angry with the response from the company. He was going to have another adjuster come out. Never happened. So my structure part was sort of settled and the content part unsettled. I was living in a home with broke glass, paint all over the place, and the smell of bleach, and huge holes in all walls. No one was worried. So when structure check was issued, it was way under quotes that Allstate told me to get. But they went ahead and issued a check, but before I got it, they stopped payment and denied my case. They said I didn't have insurance.

I've had the same company and policy for 4 years, not to mention a claim 2 years ago that they paid. They gave no Reason just denied. I hired a lawyer and its still been over 6 months. Just got a cancellation notice, given reasons being "The siding/frame exterior of your dwelling has algae, has mildew" and "The gutters or downspouts of your dwelling are missing sections." House is essentially new construction, 14 years old, with new (lower income, which I think may be the real problem) construction going on beside it. I can tell you one side of the house is not perfectly free of algae (I did a cleanup of one large patch about a month ago) and that a couple of drain spouts are missing curved end sections (one because I mounted PVC to it to improve back yard drainage, the other to make room for the PVC to empty on the driveway, where both run off the driveway to the street).

If there's an option to repair, the notice doesn't say so, and their complaints are vague, conclusory, guesswork and irrational, so it's hard to guess if anything would make them happy. Talked to a representative of my agent, but her suggestion that I fix the alleged problems in the dead of winter in hopes of being reinstated even though the letter doesn't suggest that's possible and the complaints are vague and irrational, doesn't seem worth wasting hope and time on. Being able to read the other comments on this site has helped me feel better, and I hope this comment makes somebody else feel better too. Notice was dated Christmas day, no less. I'm an individual with disabilities and been in and out of hospital and specialist offices, which is out of my control so when got to pay for medications and cabs to see specialists and things it's not in the whole budget thing. Allstate holds money for ten days, which can be difficult for an individual with many medical problems. I changed my account information twice but it wasn't reflected with the office staff so didn't notice it until last three months.

I tried to get problem addressed but been called liar and treated with disrespect by staff and agent two days ago. He upset me to the point of tears and wanting so bad to cancel this policy because found same policy with another agent with Allstate cheaper, which I feel this agent is cheating me so bad and doesn't care about my needs. He hasn't offered to meet me in person, which I got trust issues sending my personal information over the telephone or fax and his staff isn't the friendliest or treats me with respect. Using not People First Language especially in the field I work and what I do experience every single day isn't fair.

What am writing about this morning is upsetting because Allstate has caused my account to be overdrawn $108.00 for a $37.69 charge because of your fault? I've spent more on fees than the actual policy and being a person with disability paying fees when it's not my fault isn't fair. I request all my money for this year to be refund, which is $37.69 (renter's insurance for 2013) plus the overdraft charges of $36.00 times 11 months and $108.00 for December for Allstate not changing my account information, which was given and taking out the money on the designated date stated signed on original agreement.

I want renter's insurance transferred to another agent. I want an apology letter with no negative action on my credit report or account with Allstate or other agency. I want attitude changes within Allstate on how they interact with persons with disabilities. I want respect and dignity when I talk to agent and if trying to talk to one but can't get to their office then they need to meet me if they want my business.

Customers shouldn't have to make complaints online especially when they're feeling ill and don't want the representative to start talking to them down. My blood pressure actually boiled when the agent was talking to me on the telephone two days ago after making the complaint in an email. Why should I pay $37.69 per month when it's cheaper with other residents in same building with other Allstate agents with same amount of coverage with a different agent?

The consequences of what has been continuing to happen is am -$208.74 in the negative with my checking account and not sure if will get to go home this weekend because of their practices. I was just taking this renter's insurance after getting a cold call from the insurance company for no reason because I didn't call this company and now am over $1,000.00 broke for this year because of trying to protect my property and be a citizen.

I would suggest if anybody purchases Renter's Insurance do the following: I would suggest if anybody purchases Renter's Insurance do the following: 1. Make the Agent meet you in person either at location you determine or their office. 2. Make sure the Company is rated by the BBB with at least A rating. 3. Look at the individual company complaints on various sites like BBB and Consumer Affairs. 4. Call couple of friends about particular individual agents to see if they return calls about claims or individual questions or concerns. We have been with Allstate for 28 years, with 4 houses and 3 cars. Our rent house was broke into on 7-4-2012. The perpetrators destroyed most of the walls, ripping out the copper wiring, destroying all cabinets, sinks, toilet, etc. They busted in the doors, stole the electric box and stole appliances. (We secured the house with plywood and locks). We called the police and made a report. We called Allstate and they told us to get bids. In the meantime, they came back, ran over the chain link gate with lock and stole the metal garage door and then the outside A/C unit. I again called the police, made a report and called Allstate. They made a second claim.

I had numerous contractors (plumbing, electrical, general...) come out and give me quotes and I faxed them to Allstate. They averaged around 19K. Ultimately we only received about 8K in 3 checks which was nowhere near the quotes. Electrical alone was 6K because the electrical inspector would not replace the outside box until everything was brought back to code. Since we did not have the money to make up the difference, it took over a year for us to slowly finish everything. We also lost 14 months of rent at $650. In the meantime, my general contractor was communicating with our agent's office in Ft Worth. She was the self-professed mediator/go-between my contractor and the adjusters. The adjusters would NOT return phone calls for us, our gc or from the liaison who said she would take care of this.

Since it took until September to finally finish the house due to lack of money, I contacted Paige and told her that we need to get the gc to send her the receipts. She told me since it was past a year, we would need to get an extension so for me to write an email explaining the above. I did this and submitted it to the adjuster. They declined our extension because they said the gc did not fill out the paperwork correctly and on time. First of all, we were NEVER told that we had to have the receipts in by a year by our agent or forfeit our money and if we had, I certainly would have made sure my gc would have done it or I would have done it myself.

I do not know the laws of the insurance company nor should I be expected to. That is the job of my agent who is supposed to be working for us. Both the agent and liaison said they would appeal and I received an email saying that the ruling stands. I am appalled that a loyal customer like ourselves has been treated this way not to mention the 18K (money spent and rent) that we are out. We pay for replacement value yet we are not getting it. We are changing insurance companies!

Reason being, I did not have a picture of the tree in tact prior to it falling.

In Allstate's defense, Jay (claims Adjuster), stated that an image he pulled on Google from April 2011 was the evidence that the tree appeared healthy; therefore, he could not approve my claim. I have since filed a complaint with the Texas Department of Insurance. A picture of a tree from April 2011 is not sufficient evidence to determine the health of a tree in June 2013. I immediately contact my Allstate representative thinking it was a foundation issue. She recommended I contact a foundation company first before filing a claim. I did and they said it was not foundation but more than likely a leak in a pipe under the foundation, which I informed my Allstate rep. She then advised that I contact my home warranty company, because I had a %1 deducible and did not cover the plumbing portion. The plumber (after two to three visits) confirmed it was indeed a leak under the slab.

Yesterday, I contact Allstate again and stated I needed to file the claim. At this I was told they could open the claim but it had to be a leak that was very recent (i.e. past couple days). Since I had spoken to the same rep each time, I reminded her of the steps I had been taking per her advice. She graciously opened a claim and said the adjuster would contact me to schedule a visit to review the work and determine the cost. TODAY, the adjuster called and informed me that because it was a leak in the slab, it is not covered by my policy and I would now have a DECLINED CLAIM as part of my record. Are you kidding me! I asked two things: "Should the rep have known that BEFORE I went through all this?" Answer yes. Second question, "Is there a way to reverse the claim since I would not have made it, had it not been for the direction of the agent?" Answer No!

So Recap, I have been a loyal homeowner with Allstate for over a decade. I have invested between $15,000 and $20,000 in my Allstate homeowners insurance. If you look at my Allstate Homeowner's Policy Declaration, it looks like I'm 100% covered if something goes wrong... but the Policy Declaration page lists all these forms (by number) that make up your policy and that's what you really need to read IN DETAIL to find out what your policy covers. Getting those forms from AllState proved very difficult for me. I requested my full policy with all the forms several times; but I was sent the Policy Declaration over and over again; no forms. Turns out my policy doesn't cover much of anything. It doesn't cover vandalism (because I have a flat roof!). It doesn't cover water damage unless it's due to a windstorm.

In my case, a bottle got stuck in the drain causing a $16,000 loss. After 3 days out of work to attend legal proceedings, I was awarded $1,000 to replace shingles that came off in a windstorm... but all the water damage was not covered because of my deplorable policy. I recommend to everyone to review your policy... because you could find out you're paying all this insurance money for practically nothing.

20 Years with Allstate, no claims until now. Minor hail damage on 20-year old vinyl siding that can't be matched due to oxidation and fading of original.

Step 1: First Allstate Solution - find OEM siding and replace (Lowball)
Step 2: Delay - do not return calls (Delay)
Step 3: Deny - customer request to replace all siding on elevations visible from the road, denied.

Step 4: Allstate Solution #2 - Take siding from an inconspicuous area of the house and use it to replace damaged areas. Replace siding removed with new siding.

I am currently waiting on my agent to work this out for me. My first claims estimator was not an Allstate employee, contracted by Allstate. The second one, Jason **, came out to hear my complaint and was difficult to get on the phone when he left. The third guy, one notch up the corporate ladder, Rick **, told Jason to give me their 2nd solution - grafting old siding. For 20 years, I've been paying my premiums faithfully. Does this sound like I'm in "Good Hands"? They want me to take apart my siding on the other side of the house and use it to repair the damage on the front of the house. Seriously? What third world country do I live in? Does this make me whole? Isn't that what I am paying premiums for?

If this is not resolved to my satisfaction, I will be suing Allstate. If you know of or are interested in pursuing a class action suit against them, let me know or I will find someone who is and help fund the effort to bring this company to justice through a settlement. There are certainly enough of us out there who are angry but feeling helpless. Do a little research and you will find that Allstate is still reeling from Katrina. They have adopted a new strategy to produce income. Lowball, Delay, Deny, and Defend.

Quote was double what I was paying with Travelers Ins of 1,145.01. Told agent to put a mask on and point a gun at me because that was robbery. Forced to take 350,000 coverage on my house that is only worth no more than 250,000. Who are the real robbers here? She would not re-quote the price. Now I know why I dropped THEM DOWN WITH ALLSTATE. We had water damage at our home on August 10, 2013 and we immediately called Allstate. Gabriela took care of everything right away. She had the restoration came to our house and had them start to take care of the damage. Asbestos was also called. Gabriela took care of our hotel accommodation and from there. Karen ** took over until the end of our claim. The adjuster from Allstate was Richard **. He came to check all the damage at my home and right there issued us the check to take care of the repair. The check was issued under my name and my mortgage company who sends the payment directly to our contractor. I read all kinds of bad reviews about Allstate and was worried what will happen to my house.

All those complaints have never happened on our case. They took care of everything from the beginning till the end. They returned all our calls if not the same day, it's within 24 hours. They never gave us a hard time. I was so happy with their service and hopefully they will keep us as a customer and we are staying with them forever and have been telling our friends about how good our insurance. Few of my friends are now thinking of switching to Allstate. I highly recommend them. Again, thanks to Gabriella, Richard ** and Karen ** for all the help you gave us. We have been loyal customers with Allstate for more than 25 years for insurance for both cars and houses. They almost increased the premium every time it came to renewal. When we phoned and complained then they reduced 10-20%. However there were many times before we did not know so we had to pay way more than anyone else. Finally, we saw many houses around us having the roof changed because of hail damages. We asked our neighbors and were answered cover by their insurance. So we asked Allstate about this matter. Allstate sent adjuster to check on the roof. The second week they phoned and rejected the claim because the roof was 15 years old. Based on Allstate, any roof older than 12 years they would refused to pay, does not matter hail damage or any other reasons.

The third week Allstate phoned us and told us if we did not have our roof replaced and paid ourselves then they will terminate our policy. The way they talked to us were very rude and sound like we were at fault so it is my trouble and we have to pay for the roof ourselves beside paying them high paid insurance every year for the last 25 years. We phoned other company and was quoted $1000 less for the 3 cars and $200 less for the house yearly so we terminated Allstate cars and home's insurance right away even though they charged us big termination fee. Of course we will change the roof but we are happier now for not being stupid anymore for overpaying them many years to get treating like that. We bought mortgage life insurance from Allstate before. They increased the premium to double after 10 years without any warning. I highly recommend you don't use Allstate for your home, life or car insurance. You are definitely not in good hands at all.

After proving that he was totally incorrect when identifying the source of the damage, this 'Team' still refused to budge and pay for the damages that our insurance policy should have covered. Our contractor even tried calling to explain how they incorrect when stating that the roofer used too short of nails. LOL. Now I'll be paying for the cost of repairs myself, but will definitely be finding a new home insurance provider. After 10 years of paying our bill on time, without a single claim, the time we finally needed help, they cut us a check for about half the cost of the damage, refused to replace any of our damaged personal goods and told us they didn't want to argue. Frontier General/Assurant Group a subsidiary of Allstate gave me such a hard time I was forced to hire a public adjusting firm who received a substantial amount of my insurance proceeds. The entire claims process was cumbersome and stressful. To this date they still have not paid the entire amount of proceeds due and owing to me, almost 4 years later.

Forced to file suit in Texas I have been termed a vexatious litigant and have been hindered from moving forward in court. It was found by the insurance company as well as other estimates that my home was underinsured. Texas Courts have dismissed my claim against the agent who wrote the policy. I am at least $100,000.00 underinsured yet no one is being held accountable. The agent set the limits and I had nothing to do with setting any of the limits. I feel abused by this insurance company and the agent Eaves and Associates who have caused me a great deal of suffering and economic loss.

Here it is almost 4 years and I am still fighting. No one should have to go through anything like this after having their home and belongings totally destroyed. Don't buy Allstate, Frontier, or Assurant Group Insurance if you want to be treated fairly and paid the total amount for your loss. Don't use Eaves and Associates here in Spring, Texas as they will turn their back on you and refuse to pay you under their errors and omissions policy. They could have made me whole with their Errors and Omissions Policy but they refused to do so and preferred to pay lawyers to fight me rather than make me whole.

I have been with Allstate for many years and the experiences have ranged from neutral to horrific. The most recent and final straw was when I called to review my homeowners insurance policy. I was paying 1700.00 a year and had gotten a quote through USAA that was significantly less. I wanted to give Allstate an opportunity to match or justify the more than half difference.

My agent was dismissive, condescending and hopped around my questions. For example, I asked him if I had been getting a hip roof discount and he told me he had to come to my house to look if I had one but couldn't tell me if I was already getting the discount. I told him I was getting a wind mitigation inspection which he gladly latched onto and told me I needed to do that first before he could tell me any quotes on discounts. I kept saying that the wind mitigation was an additional discount and had nothing to do with my hip roof discount. He hurried me off the phone saying he would call me in a day.

When he called back he threw out a bunch of jargon, listing long processes, and told me I needed to go ahead and do the wind mitigation inspection so he could quote me accurately. Basically, he had no answers. I pushed him to answer whether I was getting the hip roof discount and he said no. I had been overcharged for 3 years and they had never inspected my property.

I told him I was not going to be renewing my policy and wanted my money back. He was just as rude and annoyed as ever. I hung up and escalated to a supervisor. My agent called me back and told me he had heard of my complaint. I feel everything from his demeanor, answering my questions honestly and then contacting me when I obviously do not want to speak to him has been highly unprofessional. This is just one instance of horrendous customer service. You are not in better hands with Allstate.

We start going through the house trying to figure out where all the water is coming from and what rooms it's running into. Clearly the bathroom overflow ran down into my son's room, but there's water coming into my daughter's room also. Her room is under the kitchen so we look in the kitchen. Everything under the sink is wet and water's there as well.

The kitchen floor and bottom cabinets as well as my daughter's room that Servpro pro says needs to all come out and be replaced was a big no way! We have mold coverage and now that mold is starting to grow, well we're just on our own. They aren't going to cover it. On a side note, 4 years ago we had damage to one whole side of our house. The siding we had is no longer made. Allstate gave us a 2 boxes of siding in a different color and said that's all they can do. They don't have to replace it all. I was notified on 12 Aug 2013, by Allstate insurance company, that my homeowner's policy was not going to be renewed. The reason given for this action was: 1. Your sofits/Facia/Eaves in need of paint, have pealing paint; 2. The roof of your dwelling is patched. I have had the insurance policy with Allstate for over forty years with one minor claim for earthquake damage cause by a collapse swimming pool what took out some fencing. In early summer I was contacted by my insurance agent. They needed my permission to allow an inspector on to my property to perform a safety inspection to which I agreed.

This inspection apparently was a lie as the resulting letter above shows that it was for home evaluation of some sort. The paint problem is valid; however, is this a reason for a non-renewal notice? The roof was repaired after a wind storm a few years back and different colored asbestos tiles were used. My major concern is - when I cut my ties with Allstate, will the unfavorable letter on non-renewal, affect my ability to seek a new insurance agent?

We are victims of Allstate Insurance and their gross negligence and incompetence in regards to our home. We purchased our home in approximately 2001. In 2006 our city was hit with devastating storms and we were declared a National Emergency Zone. Water started pouring into our home from the roof in no less than four different locations. We own a two story home and our sunken living room downstairs was officially a lake. When the rain ceased after six or seven straight days, we called Allstate, the adjuster showed up with his handy helper, climbed up on the roof where they spent about 10 to 15 minutes, came down and informed my wife and I that we indeed had roof damage. He stated that we had "one" shingle that was damaged that had caused our entire house to flood. Even if I had not been a roofer for seven years, the look of incredibility on my face would have been the same. This was the start of an almost four year nightmare to get my roof repaired and finally in 2010 we prevailed.

Since that time we have had two other issues, one which actually only took a matter of a couple of months, and one that is no unresolved after contacting Allstate for seven years. My skimmer line in my pool busted, Allstate's first excuse... sorry your pool was not included in your insurance policy. Which is amazing seeing as how I purchased the home with the pool already built. When I informed Allstate of this they said, "Oh well we do not cover 'acts of God'." I have made a point of calling Allstate every year for the past six years to resolve this issue. My last call which was late last year after relating the incidents on Allstate's Facebook page was to be contacted by a representative of their online social media sight, whom apologized for my troubles and any inconvenience we may have suffered and offered to have an agent from their main office contact us.

I accepted, and within 24 hours a representative from their corporate offices contacted us. This was a good thing right? Wrong! For the first 15 to 20 minutes I was ran around from department to department, I was then given to someone who had me again relate what had happened and then informed me that I again had the wrong department. Finally I hit the so called "right" department where I again related what had been happening and then was informed that the time period for me to file a claim was expired and that there was nothing they could do about it. Sooooo sorry! This has become to be what I now refer to has Allstate Customer Service Standard Operating B.S. Funny how you never seem to have a problem paying them their extortion fees.

I am now fed up completely with Allstate's gross bumbling and incompetence. I will be filing a complaint with the Texas Insurance Commission as well as seeking legal assistance where I will be suing Allstate for their lack of taking care of the insurance needs of my home. I will also be contacting a specialist to test for mold damage due to Allstate never properly researching the damage to my insulation and walls during the 2006 storms which my wife and I are both now suffering possible allergic reactions to. If you have had similar experiences with Allstate I ask that you feel free to contact me.

I received a notice from Allstate that they were going to come to my home to inspect my property. The man doing the inspection rang the bell and I went outside with him. I asked him to make a note that I had a contract to replace the siding and it would be done within a week or so. He asked if I had dogs (he could hear them barking) and then had to know what breed of dog they are.

I just now received a phone call from Allstate (although the Caller ID did not say it was Allstate, it said "unavailable" and a phone #). When I heard the message that it was Allstate calling about my home inspection, I picked up. After asking me for much information, including my birth date, I was told that there were some things I had to have fixed before my policy renewal date in December. One of the items was the siding had to be replaced. Nothing was noted that the siding was already contracted for and showed him the sign in front of my home with the siding company's name & other info. I was told I have to take a picture of my home and send it to them. They do not come out again. I have to prove it was re-sided and they have a picture of my home when they were here to compare it to to be sure the picture is of my house.

Then I was told I had to replace the Driveway because it is crumbling. When I asked for clarification, it turns out the Driveway is a little worn at the very end. Not bad, rather minor, but I have to put in a new Driveway. I am 73 years old, have had Allstate Ins for Auto since I was 17 years old and Homeowners since 1966. I had my first Homeowners claim this winter when I had heating pipes in the floor burst and cause a minor flood in the Living Room. Total claim ended up being less than $5000.00.

I asked the man to have my Agent call me. After a few times of requesting this, he said, "Yes, I can have your Agent call you." So far, no one has called. I do believe Allstate is trying to drop me now that I am 73 next month and a Senior Citizen. It seems by telling me I have to have the Driveway replaced for minor wear and tear at the ends of it (It is a u curved Driveway), they are just looking to make me drop them so they do not have to insure an older/elderly person, especially after I just paid over $15,000.00 to side the house and put in new windows. The Driveway needing to be replaced before my policy renewal date in December is just a way to get rid of me since I am now older and to them a higher insurance risk.

I will wait to see if my Agent does return the call as requested, but I really don't expect much help. I have had Allstate homeowners for well over 50 years (since 1966) with one claim, but because I am getting older, they now come up with a reason that they know I probably can't afford right now as a way to not review my policy in December.

Few years back we had this insurance for many years, we start having problems for raising without notice the auto policy. We submitted a claim for Burglary of Residence in 2009 approx. The city is Channelview, TX. We also submitted the policy report case # ** and the deputy, Goldstain from unit 43E24, and the police were not able to find any evidence but we did submit the claim over a policy insurance we had for this. The policy never specified the "requirements" or how the policy will work in that event. They told us to fill out a list of what was missing from electronics to money. So we did.

After a few days, they told us that we cannot have no money to replace any loss, and the only way to resolve the matter was to go to the store we bought each items from which would ensure that we did buy it in there and have a price check with the item listed. If it’s no longer in stores or available, they cannot replace it. If the price was below the original price, we have to put the rest to complete the balance. We submitted a complaint against that policy so their response was that because we were complaining about the system, we need to submit a questionnaire about everything in our house, and they MUST check our personal belongings, such as the personal computers and cell phone and all the electronic devices to see if us or any contacts did the burglary of residence. That is against our privacy rights as public consumers.

Well, they stated that if we deny filling out the questionnaire, they will close the case and it will be like that never happened. Before that happened, my husband and I decided to hire another insurance company and transfer the credit to the new insurance company. We fired them and until today, we are satisfied with the other insurance company. Now after those years, we just received a letter that we still have a negative balance to them and were reported to the credit bureau! This people just can’t have enough!!!

When we heard back from them, we were told that we would be receiving $328.11 (after our $1,000 deductible) for the trailer, and that the lawn mower would not be covered because I used it to mow my vacant lot and my 67-year old widowed/disabled mother's yard (land I will inherit upon her death).

I contacted my insurance agent, and he advised that the lawn mower should be covered, and contacted the adjuster himself. His response back to me was that he had gone "round and round" with the adjuster only to get the same response I was already given. I appealed and was told by the Allstate Claims management department that due to the fact that my policy states that "motorized land vehicles will only be covered if they are used solely for the premises." I told him that upon signing my policy with my agent, when ask if I owned any other premises, I advised I owned a piece of land in a residential neighborhood, and the agent advised me that didn't matter as you cannot insure land with no dwelling on it, the premises in question was referring to any other dwelling. I advised I did not own any other homes. He chose the policy and wrote the coverage.

I am just NOW learning that there are apparently different types of homeowners policies. The Allstate Claims management team very rudely advised they would do nothing further to help me with this situation, and that I could contact the Department of Insurance or anyone I chose to, but the case was closed on their end. I did take their advice and contacted the Department of Insurance, as well as Better Business Bureau advising that Allstate's advertisement of "being in good hands" is false. I am in no better hands than the thief that came and took our property. The only difference is that I paid Allstate to rob me, making me feel even more violated. I would NOT recommend this company as they do not stand behind their advertisement claims, and they have been very unwilling to help me rectify this situation. Let me also say that I have never received a copy of my homeowners policy, yet I'm the one being punished for someone else's mistake!!

I called my insurance company, Allstate, who I have been with for 19 years and never filed a claim before because during the Sandy storm, I had some leakage from my roof. I asked my insurance agent to come check and see if I needed my roof replaced and if my insurance would cover the cost. When the agent came out and checked the roof, he said the insurance would only give $250 to fix the hole and a bucket of paint. Two weeks later, I received a non-renewal letter stating Allstate would not renew my homeowner insurance because my roof is dry rotted and deteriorated and in need of repair. I am a 68-year-old senior citizen and have paid homeowner's insurance costs with Allstate for 19 years and NEVER was able to be covered by Allstate when I filed a claim with them after being a faithful customer for 19 years and I had to shop around at the age of 68 to find a new insurance coverage. I will tell everyone I can that Allstate insurance coverage is a Rip-Off!!

Early this February, a hailstorm hit my area. I had damage to my roof vents, so I replaced them myself. On February 19th, I had my wife call Allstate to file a claim and check the roof for damage. On 3/12/13, Kenneth ** came to inspect the house and garage roofs. He said it had wear but no hail damage, but the gutters had damage and we could claim them. We declined because of our deductible. Two weeks later, we received a letter from Allstate telling us if the roof was not replaced, they would not renew us. I had two contractors come out and look at the roofs. They said it was hail damage. I called my agent Michael ** to see if he could help me. I was told Allstate replaced his roof twice but could not help me. I then called Allstate to meet with Dan from M&M Roofing.

Allstate inspector called my wife to set a date and time. He told her it was a waste of time for him to come out because only his supervisor could change Mr. **‘s findings. I then called supervisor David ** and asked him to come out and meet with Dan from M&M. He said he would. On the day he was to meet Dan from M&M, Mr. ** showed up. Dan and Mr. ** looked at the roofs but he would not change his findings. I called Mr. ** again and asked him to come meet with M&M. Finally on 4/19/13, Mr. ** came out and met with M&M. I was at work that day. From what my wife told me, Mr. ** was very rude to her and Dan. He would not listen or look at anything Dan tried to show or tell him. At this time, he would stick with Mr. **’s findings.

I called Allstate in Northbrook and talked with Glen **. I was told he would talk with Mr. ** and called me back; he never did. On 5/1/13, I filed a complaint with the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU OF CHICAGO, case# **. On 5/3/13, David ** called and offered to cover the roof vents and gutters but not the roof. He also offered to have an engineer come inspect the roof. At this time, I had no trust in any Allstate inspectors. We could not come to an agreement so the case was closed. If I did not show them a work order by 5/19/13, Allstate would drop me. After all that I have gone through with Allstate, I took Mr. **’s offer for the gutters and vents. Since then, a lot of my neighbors have had their roofs replaced due to hail damage. I also have filed a complaint with ILLINOIS DEPARTMENT OF INSURANCE on 6/5/13.

I have had several contractors stop by home that were doing work in my neighborhood. I told them what was going on with Allstate. I was informed Allstate has not covered any claims for roof damage due to the hail. I have been with Allstate for 27 years and never filed a claim. My roof is about 8 years old. I trusted Allstate to take care of my home and family. They let me and a lot of other homeowners down. I could have lived with Mr. **’s findings but don't drop me and my family. We trusted him to do the right thing. Thank you for any help you can give me and the other homeowners done wrong by Allstate. I guess we’re not in such GOOD HANDS.

We have had Allstate homeowner's insurance since 2008 and today, 6/19/13, was the first time we filed a claim due to water damage. We went through the 800 # and spoke with emergency services and explained that on Monday, 6/17/13, we noticed water leaking from the upstairs bathroom into the downstairs bathroom through the lights on the ceiling so obviously through electrical. They recommended that we cease using the upstairs bathroom which we had already done and that our deductible was $1000. Our adjuster Chery called and took the same information over the phone and afterwards, informed us that it would not be covered under our policy even though we specifically requested water damage. She stated that it would only be covered if it was a one-time accidental incident that would be able to dry out such as a toilet overflow. I stated that made no sense as if the toilet overflowed we would be able to clean that up with no assistance. She stated that the damage has been done over time and although we would not be aware until it is visible, it would not be covered. I don't understand this - If we are not aware and notify once we are, how is it our fault? And why would I only have coverage for situations that would clean up easily?

In March 2010, a terrible wind and rainstorm hit my house in Philadelphia. Allstate Insurance told me to hire a remediation company to remove the wet sheet rock, etc., to prevent mold, and to take all steps necessary to prevent further damage from water coming into the home, including getting a patch on the roof. I hired a remediation company and a roofer who did just that. Allstate then came out 20+ days later and stated they saw no damage and denied my $13,000 claim.

The remediation company, CPR Restoration of Philadelphia, PA, ended up sending me a bill for $4,000.00 that was for their four hours' worth of work. The bill included charges for items that they never did, including $750.00 for a dump truck and being billed for 2,500 square feet of plastic.

I contacted CPR Restoration of Philadelphia and stated that these charges were incorrect and fraudulent, but they refused to correct them. I advised the owner that I would create a website that would let people know that they filed a fraudulent insurance claim with Allstate... So, a month later, the police came to my home and handcuffed me and put me in the Philadelphia Jail for 24 hours. Reason: the owner of CPR Restoration filed a police report, and in it made false statements that I was going to beat him up.

A year later, the case went in front of a judge and I was found innocent.

In 2012, I went to small claims court after CPR Restoration obtained a judgement for $4,200.00 from me for the work that was never paid because my claim was denied and I didn't have the money. In court, the judge sided with me regarding the false charges, reduced my bill by $1,400.00, and fined CPR Restoration and their attorney for improper collection practices. I tried to sue Allstate, but although the State of PA has a four-year statutory limit on contract law, there is a clause in the contract that says there is a one-year limit.

Listen to Bob ** from Allstate Insurances - Malvern Office speak to me as he belittles his customer and lies about Allstate saying they would not have told me to patch my roof. Although I understand I probably talked way too much during this call, you can hear during the call that Bob was quite annoyed and didn't care or want to hear anything that I had to say. Mr. ** contradicts himself, saying that "We never told you to fix the roof." Then he's saying that, "You need to take the steps to prevent further damage." Mr. ** and Allstate never inspected the roof when I received the policy, and they were never able to provide any reason then for how the water got into the house. The huffing and puffing on the phone by him can be heard, if you listen closely.

If, after you listen to this call, you feel that they have misled me...please contact Allstate and voice your opinion. If you'd like to reach Bob directly, call ** and tell him to pay Bruce's claim.

So the adjuster says my roof is fine, and they cancel my policy due to a poor roof condition. This is a joke, right? Allstate is a ripoff. I've been with them for 30 years and they are THE most expensive insurance! I stayed with them all these years because I thought they would take care of me when/if I did have an accident and I didn't want to risk going to another company. I've had three accidents in 5 years, and two of them were only minor fender benders, but before that I only had one accident in 30 years. Then I relocated to Wisconsin from Texas and my insurance almost doubled because of the last accident!

Now that I've been with Allstate for so long and had my renter's insurance along with my auto insurance, and because of this last accident, I won't get a cheaper rate if I go to another company. I hate Allstate! I never should have stayed with them all these years. My suggestion is to go with State Farm or Progressive, because Allstate will charge you the highest rates and then when the time does come that you'll really need them to advocate for you, you can forget it.

He hit me damn near head-on, with my fiance and our 6-year-old daughter in the vehicle with me. The guy crossed double yellow lines on a two-lane road and smacked us, totaling our vehicle as well as the vehicle he was driving. The guy lied from the moment after the accident, and even once the police arrived on the scene, he continued to lie. He claimed that the vehicle in front of him came to a sudden stop so he had no choice but to cross over into oncoming traffic. He hit the vehicle I was driving so hard, because he was accelerating to pass, that the vehicle I was driving lifted up off of the road. It was a mini-van and he was driving a Mercedes.

Anyway, Allstate dragged me, my fiance, and our daughter through the mud. They showed no concern about us at all. What they offered us in a settlement was an insult. My complaint is how does Allstate continue to get away with the things they have been getting away with all of these years? They should be put out of business and forced to pay each and every one of their customers a large sum of money for being the worst insurance company in the United States. They continue to think they are above the law, but in reality, they are the most dishonest insurance company out there. They are sacks of **, worthless bums. How they even sleep at night is a mystery. Each and every person involved with Allstate, employee-wise, will be going straight to hell upon his or her death!!! It comes as no surprise that the corporate raider leading Allstate was also at Sears and has been a part of their downward spiral. They promised they would call us back, and they told us to go ahead and call a local plumber which we did and Restoration and they cut my ceiling wall to detect the bathroom leaks. And in 3 days, Allstate never called us back and my husband kept leaving them voice messages. Finally, my husband spoke to them and they mentioned that our claim was denied.

My husband asked Sandra when they denied it and who did they call - not the homeowner's wife or the husband. They promised later on they would send the adjuster but they never did to inspect our place or take a look at it. They stated that they don't have to and what we received were 3 letters denying our claims and for 15 years, we paid them $900 a year and they covered nothing. They took our money for 15 years and covered nothing.

They are money hungry, manipulate customers, take money and now say they listed all they don't cover. What is the use of paying them and doing nothing when emergency comes? We are a military family; my husband is retired for 20 years and a disabled veteran. He had served this country and we are both honest people working in the federal government but being fooled by this insurance is unacceptable. They do not want to take responsibility, or return calls, or give a damn about anything but take our money for 15 years.

We were so upset and disappointed and now our ceiling walls have been cut, damaged and need to be covered, and patched and repainted. We paid the plumber for $477.06 by itself and Restoration. When the adjuster, Rochelle **, came, I told her where to look. She went to the crawl space in one of the bedroom not really knowing what she's doing because it's very obvious. She forced the lid to the crawl space and broke it, particles and residue fell all over my daughter's wardrobe in the closet. She took pictures in there. None of them made sense since the one she should be checking is the roof but she did not go there.

To make long story short, she said she will send Leak Detective to check the roof. I told her I can't wait any longer. I want this to get fixed before water can do more damage. I called Bellevue Roofing Co. I called my insurance and let them know I want this company to do the work. Allstate said it's okay. When Rochelle, the adjuster, received the work proposal, she called me and said my deductible is now $500 and if the leak was caused by hail and wind, it's not covered. I asked Keith of Bellevue Roofing if the leak or damage was caused by hail and wind and he said no. So after the work is done to the roof, I sent the invoice to Allstate Insurance adjuster. Rochelle called me and said it's not covered because this is just a maintenance issue.

These people are unbelievable. What kind of business is this? Monkey business! I'm so done doing business with Allstate Insurance. They are very unprofessional and the adjuster is not knowledgeable about the nature of damage. This people take your money and run away from the responsibility of covering what they're supposed to cover. This is not insurance! It's a scam! Furthermore, I called them to pay for the damage the adjuster caused on my crawl space lid. I hope they fix it.

Trees down on the roof, gutters off, Soffit damage and siding damage. We have been jumping through hoops since October to have our roof repaired. We have had three claims adjusters out to the house and all keep finding more damage (which makes me question the education of all their adjusters), but refused to fix more than one side of the roof. We had puncture holes to one side and 20 shingles blown off the front (the roof is 20 years old). We now also have animals living in the attic due to the holes. We just had a brittle test done and it's right on the line so the adjuster refused to allow for a whole new roof. We just did a complete renovation of our basement and yard.

We have no additional money and are going into debt to try to keep up with the animal removal and damage that it looks like we will have to pay for. I don't know who else to write to, but please remember we are all human. If it was your house, what would you do? I paid Allstate over $25,000 in the last 20 years. I am now wishing I would have just saved the cash. At least I would have it to repair my house. Shame on you Allstate. The worst. I will try to be brief. We had roof damage (caused by hurricane Sandy) which in turn caused water damage in our master bedroom and one of my boys' room. The Allstate adjuster came. I think he already knew the outcome. After inspecting the roof and the inside damage, he determined that our roof, which is about 20 years old and was missing about 70 shingles, was repairable. In other words, we should patch it up with shingles. That will be a different shade because the shingles on the roof are of course faded.

We asked for a second inspection. The field manager came and he was worse than the adjuster. When I asked him if I can give him my input, he said, "Go ahead but it doesn't really matter." This was my input. It kind of made sense to me. If a new tire gets a flat, you can put a patch. But if you have a tire that is worn out and has very little tread and gets a flat, it's not going to work. He mumbled something and then reiterated that no matter what I said, their decision is based not on what's best for the homeowner and their investment (that's what I gathered). So they did the second inspection, sent it to their higher office, which came back with the same determination: repairable.

So I asked the adjuster what's going to happen if we get another storm or hurricane and we lose more shingles. No answer. He quoted something on my policy which brings me to this point: be aware if some of the shingles on your roof have been replaced and you have a disaster damage. They will tell you that because it was repaired in the past, it is a reparable roof. What? Which brings me back to my tire metaphor, if you put a patch on your tire when it had 1k miles then when you get a flat and you have 38k miles, should you keep patching it up or replace it? Be aware they use a matrix to determine replacement or repair; that is how they determined my roof. The matrix is like the "illuminati". When I asked the adjuster if I can have a copy, he said no. It's only for their use. Sorry, this is so long and I didn't even give you all the details. In conclusion, do not ever use Allstate for your homeowners insurance. I had Nationwide and switched. What a mistake.

We had the unfortunate experience of waking up to a house fire in October. Allstate put us up in a hotel for a week and then moved my family and pets into a rental home. The estimate for repairs was 6-9 months. We got a strange email yesterday from a woman with Allstate telling us to have the rental furniture ready for pick up on April 5th and have the house move out ready on April 6th. We were like “What?” The insurance adjuster went back and forth with our contractor until February 28th when work finally started. (Allstate wasn't putting any GC amount in the bid; so of course our contractor wasn't going to start the job until he knew he was getting paid.) The insurance adjuster said, “Sorry, but on April 6th you are out of money.”

Now we had $28,835 in Temp Housing allowance. Allstate found us the house and then said they would furnish the house. They brought in low grade rental furniture, towels, kitchen supplies, linens, etc. They informed us we had "plenty" of money for the rental stuff when we asked because we did have some furniture that survived the fire we were going to use. They said no need. Well, it turns out the rental furniture is costing about $1,250 a month (for 3 bedrooms, one dining table, a sofa, chair, two TV’s and a desk). And it's the lowest grade that Cort carries.

When they placed us in the home in October, obviously they knew we would run out of money in 5 months. They knew all the numbers, we didn't. When the estimate is for 6-9 months, why on earth put us in a place that we can only live for 5? And they gave our landlord a 30 day notice on March 6th to vacate but never told us. The adjuster, Claudia **, was supposed to contact us on March 6th but it "slipped her mind". So we have a two week notice that we are out of money and need to get out, and our house is nowhere near being done. We have a 7-year-old that needs to stay in the school district and 5 pets.

Not only did Nick with Allstate drop the ball by not putting in the contractor fees until February 28th, but the Temp Housing adjusters from Allstate knew the day they signed the lease and rented furniture exactly when we would be out of money. And they never told us! We would have never taken delivery of the rental furniture. Do you know they use a company that charges $20.80 per month for 4 bath towels? In 6 months, yeah, that's $120! And you are required to give them back! A set of placemats (that we never asked for) costs $10.50 a month! A cookware set I could buy at Kmart for $24.99 is $58 per month, and it has to be returned in pristine re-rentable condition or they charge you for it on top of the $360 they charge for use for 6 months.

Allstate set us up to be homeless! We have nowhere to go and they are saying "Sorry, but your housing allowance money is all used up." If we wouldn't have gotten an email yesterday from someone with Temp Housing move out rules in Atlanta, we still wouldn't know we are going to be homeless in two weeks. They dropped the ball with our contractor! They also took care of the rental furniture. They just do it and didn't ask any questions except what size of beds we had in the past. Had we any idea they were spending $10,000 in rental furniture, there's no way in hell we'd have agreed to that. To buy the stuff brand new wouldn't cost that much!

Then, I will be posting for the rest of my life as many negative comments online about Allstate. If I can bring this inept company down a notch, I will do it. I have full coverage Allstate Homeowners Insurance but when black mold from a leak under my bath tub (and behind a wall) was discovered because it was leaking down into the condo below mine (and ruining their carpet and walls). I was told by my Allstate agent that leaks are not covered unless discovered immediately. How are leaks supposed to be discovered immediately if they are behind walls? This is a clear "loophole" to get the big insurance companies from paying up when the policy holder needs repairs. Allstate is a clear rip off! I should not be living in my home until the mold has been removed and repairs completed, yet I do not have sufficient funds to make the repairs, so this US Vet is going to be homeless and possibly even lose my house! I just want Allstate to have the black mold removed and the required repairs completed so I can live safely in my own home!

We have severe damage to my home caused by the Sandy Storm. I have structural damage as well as lost everything on the first floor. I have a $250,000 Insurance policy for just such a problem and they are refusing to pay what is needed. They have paid me $53,000, when I need at least but not limited to $150,000. My walls have bowed out and the main floor beam has pulled away from the outside of the house ... I had just finished remodeling and have most of my receipts, yet they still do not want to pay. I am flustered and overwhelmed. Whatever documents they have asked for, I have provided.

On top of that, I have hired my own engineer who has documented how the structure was damaged. My kitchen that also was remodeled had very expensive granite top. The first words out of the adjuster was, "We pay for granite?" Why not?! I paid for the insurance every month. We are the original owners since 1964. They stated in their report that the home that I lived in all of these years was not built correctly and that is how this happened. Are you kidding me? They also state that my home that I just spent an arm and a leg on with new seamless vinyl siding and oak and pergo floors as well as granite tile floors that I put all of that over a bowed out home with the main beam pulled away from my house.

Allstate has since sent out a second engineer who agrees with us that it was solely caused by the Sandy Storm. I am running out of money quickly and have used up all my savings and took a loan to remodel my home before the storm, so therefore I now have nothing and need your help or suggestions. Oct. 25, 2012, my daughter submitted a damaged roof claim. On one side of the roof, the shingles had been hit by strong wind and in a section of about 14 feet x 12 feet. The shingles were piled up as though a whirlwind had just sucked the shingles off the plywood and stacked them in a pile. My daughter called me and her dad and wanted to know what she should do. I showed her how to email a claim for the damage. Our local agent was contacted and he stated he would send an adjuster to her house as soon as possible. I was told to call and get an estimate of the damage, which I did the same day. The roofer stated there were signs of hail and strong wind damage. The roofer stated the shingles needed to be re-tacked back in place at once because it was scheduled to that evening. I called the local Allstate agent and he said that would be a good idea. The roofer re-nailed the shingles.

The Allstate Company sent the number 2 adjuster with the company for turning down claims and pointing the blame on the roofer or builder. Two different roofers came to my daughter's house to give an estimate and both stated there had been hail and wind damage on her roof. The roof is ten years old. The adjuster told my daughter she would need to take her claim to small claims court against the roofer. The roofer could not be located by the builder and he stated that he thought the roofer was out of business and may be dead. There was no help from the local Allstate agent in which we both have been dealing with for over eight years for three cars and two houses and two umbrella policies. The estimates were $6,900 and $6,100. I ended up getting one of the roofers replacing the shingles for a total of a little over $4,950. "You’re In Good Hands" should not be published in the future. My daughter is a single 36-year old local schoolteacher and was taken advantage of, I think because she is single, and a woman.

I had Allstate insurance for many years before we moved to Dothan, AL. with no claims. We cancelled six policies with Allstate and no help was offered by the local agent. Allstate lost almost $4,000 in yearly fees between me and my daughter, multiply by the eight years we have paid here in Dothan, plus all the years my wife and I paid in the years past, and that does not sound like "You’re In Good Hands.”

Naively, we trusted the adjustor because we thought we were in good hands with Allstate. However, after months of continued loose shingles in and around our home, we realized we were not. We contacted Allstate a second time and their adjustor again told us to wait a little longer that damage was not yet sufficient. Most recently in October 2012, we had water damage to the interior of our home and called Allstate who again advised us that damage was not sufficient to replace our roof. We got three estimates from local roofers and all advised roof was in need of replacement. Out of frustration, we sought out another insurance provider who would not insure our roof due its poor condition. So we had to pay out of pocket $8,600 to replace our roof. I have not experienced the customer care feature of Allstate Insurance. After this experience, I would never recommend Allstate Insurance coverage to anyone!

They have sent the letters and checks to another address, so we did not know what really they are saying. Now they said to us that it is too late to complain about something we had told them when they came for inspection. I feel like they sent the letters to a different address with bad intentions. I feel so down and my life is not the same after hurricane Sandy and Allstate.

The gutters flew away and the roof suffered some damage so we asked Allstate to replace the roof and the other damages. We called them many times and they took their time to answer us. Allstate may act like they are the first one on the scene, but don't be fooled. The adjuster didn't finish his final estimate till 2 months post storm, and he came in one week after the storm. My neighbor who had insurance with Hartford got an adjuster 1 month after the storm but got a settlement check before we did. We are not even close to it because they claim that they need to send an engineer to prove that the damage in the crawlspace was done by the storm?! My contractor had already done half of the work, and now we had to stop work because their engineer is missing in action till this Saturday. Then it will probably take another 2 weeks for them to get everything filed and decide if they want to pay. If they don't cover it, we have to pay out of pocket to have the sub-floor pulled up again in order to fix the crawlspace! Their lack of organization is beyond me, and now it will become my problem because of their inability to plan.

Not only that, Allstate kept sending me advance checks that had the wrong information on them, so then we had to wait 2 weeks to for them to stop and reissue checks. We had to get endorsement with all the mortgages while Hartford does not. Allstate told us it's the law, but how come Hartford did not have the same issue? I am still dealing with their incompetence from all levels. We were only able to cash one advance check, after all the endorsements were signed. To top it off, this morning, someone there told me that they went ahead to stop that check too! What kind of system is that, to stop checks from the past because they took one of the names off the system. It does not make sense.

Thirdly, what's the big mystery when it comes to letting us know how much they will be able to cover in the settlement, just give me a number so I can be sure I can pay for the work that is about to be completed. They told us that it's the law that they cannot tell us? How is this different than any other insurance policy? Adjuster makes an estimate, and should tell us on the spot. But no, it's a big mystery to let us know. I thought I had the right to know as a consumer. I wish I could give them no star. I am figuring out a way to complain to the NYS Dept. of Financial Services. This is unacceptable especially when I have family members who are ill and need to be on special diets. We can't because we still have no stove after 2 months after the storm.

When I realized that Nationwide was hosing me on auto insurance, I shopped around, and lined up with a very helpful local Allstate agent who provided me with some great numbers for both auto and homeowner's insurance. He was accommodating, professional and very thorough. I ended up saving nearly 50% on my auto premium, with essentially better coverage. Homeowner's was a bit better, too. So far, so good. But he's the agent, not the corporation.

Within six weeks, I received notice that my homeowner's premium is being increased nearly 85% - replacement value of the home was jacked from $345k to $607k, personal property from $245k to $450k, and (get this) replacement cost of my dilapidated detached garage went from $30k to $60k. They said this was because a drive-by inspector decided that my home had around 3k sq. ft. of living space vs. 2200 sq. ft. So the additional, 800 sq. ft. nearly doubled my premium.

There isn't a house within 6/10 of a mile of mine that would cost $600k to rebuild - guaranteed. And the $450k of personal property? Sure, if I stashed diamonds under the floorboards. But as usual, fighting the corporation is futile, so I went out and got quotes from other insurers - and based them on the erroneous 3,000 square feet. The result? Right in line with where things should be - in the $350k replacement range and $250k personal property (which, trust me, is high also).

So I will leave Allstate (running, shooting behind me as I flee) just 10 weeks after switching over. It is hands-down the worst insurance experience I've ever had. I probably should've done more homework before switching, because I was hoodwinked by this company. I can't even imagine what they would do to those nice auto premiums once renewal time rolled around. Luckily, I won't be around to find out. Later, Allstate.

I have been told "We do not inform customers of the reasons for premium increases at renewal. Contact your agent." We sustained 15,000 dollars of damage to our roof during a severe hail storm in Rome, NY. We had two contractors look at our roof. Allstate sent two adjusters from their disaster team from out of state. They stated we had hail damage but not enough and dispersed a small amount of funds to cover damage from hail to the gutters, facing and screens. But they also stated the hail damage to the roof was minimal. We contacted a private adjuster and requested a second local adjuster to come from Allstate. The private adjuster marked multiple areas of damage to the roof and saw the large amount of cinder in the gutters from the damaged shingles. We also then had water leak into our basement - the hail punched holes in the screen over and around the chimney causing the leak. We never had a problem before the hail storm.

Today, we had our re-inspection from Allstate by another out-of-state representative and a part of the disaster team. Again, they stated that there was hail damage to the gutters and facing as well as screens - all of which are made of harder material than a shingle - from hail. But the hail damage to the shingles according to Allstate is minimal. That does not make sense. A car parked in our driveway at the time sustained 6000 worth of damage. Houses all around us have had their roofs replaced from the damage. I am not happy. I asked for an independent third party. Instead, I got another member of the disaster team that said "Yes, you have damage but not enough."

From my first contact with Allstate to report a claim, it was clear to me they were maneuvering for the eventual outcome of denying my claim. They weren't even skilled at this maneuvering. It was very transparent that they were going to find some reason to avoid paying what they owed under my policy. Here it is in brief: A power surge blew out my air conditioning compressor, which was listed as a covered event in my policy. However, as soon as I made the first call to report the claim, Allstate personnel began hinting that they probably wouldn't cover it. First, they exclaimed, "Wow! That's a lot! Wow!" Then they made absurd attempts to convince me that they couldn't possibly cover the compressor itself because we had also elected to replace the entire A/C system at the same time. What has the one got to do with the other?

When that didn't work, they indicated they would have covered the compressor if I had kept the burned-out thing sitting on my property so they could have come to personally inspect it. Of course, the professional technician who wrote that it had been burned black by a power surge in his official field report cannot be trusted to write truthful information. So, claim denied. Glad to say, I had already made arrangements to cancel my policy the next day, because Allstate is too frightened to insure the new house I'm buying. It's near the Bay. Oooh, scary. Best not to insure anything they might actually have to pay a claim on. I don't know how they've gotten a good reputation over the years. Pitiful performance.

While the total cost was significantly over our deductible, we just paid the bill and moved on. Several months later, we discovered that the ice maker had leaked (no more than 2 days while we were out of town) much more water than we realized. Additional damage was done to the sub-floor, insulation, and minor HVAC items in the crawl space of the house. Mold developed over the affected area in the crawlspace.

Allstate denied our claim based on a continuous leak over a period of weeks or months. The total bill of the repairs was approximately $3,000. We paid twice that each year for homeowners and auto insurance (and had for the last five years). There was no continuous leak. Allstate just did not want to pay a justified claim for an issue that a moral insurance company would cover.

Even more disappointing than the claim denial was the Allstate “attitude”. All we got from the Allstate folks, to include our so called Madison, AL agent is that we are “so sorry this happened and we can understand your frustration”. Needless to say, we moved on from Allstate the following day after our relatively small claim was denied. I was able locate and repair the missing shingle tab that was in the photo and there were no other issues with the roof. They also claimed that a third party contract inspector was bitten by my step daughter's dog, tore the inspectors skirt and drew blood.

My step daughter told me that she observed the incident and the dog never bit the inspector. The inspector caught her skirt on a wire on the fence while leaning over the fence taking a picture and jumped back when the dog jumped up on the fence. My step daughter has her own liability insurance policy that covers the dog that indemnifies Allstate from any liability regarding the dog.

A claim has never been made regarding the dog which has been on the premises for over 12 years now. I had been a loyal Allstate customer for over 34 years and there was only one claim on it during that 34 years and that was in 1979 as a result of a hail storm that amounted to $650. The problem arose when the homeowner went to renew their policy which had nothing to do with myself.

These agents not only demanded more information but threatened me and my business that I would not do anymore work around here. One went as far as using language like "You ** cry baby, you will never do any work around here anymore." Is this the type of skilled professionalism all people having any dealings with the two agents can expect? I have never done any work for Allstate and if this is any representation of what could be expected when doing business with these two agents, I probably never will. All the gutters were replaced as well as a window that was damaged during the storm. I was thrilled that they followed through and provided a service for which I paid for.

I moved from NC to VA almost two years ago and am currently living with my daughter in her home and of course, she pays for her own homeowner's insurance. All of my possessions have been in a local storage facility being insured by that facility. I decided to move into my own apartment and, of course, need renter's insurance required by the apartment. I called Allstate and set up the policies needed and for $79 a year for the service. Great! I'm all set to proceed to my new home in less than one week. I'm sure you can imagine my surprise when they called back to tell me I was denied because I filed a claim over two years ago! Okay, so I filed a claim for a service that I've paid for, for many years, and now I'm being denied because I actually used that service? Will someone please tell me the logic here?

They said there were other factors such as having no rental or homeowner's insurance over the last year, but as I said, everything I own (with the exception of my Jeep Wrangler, currently being insured by Allstate) is in an insured storage facility. I have no debt, great credit, no criminal background history, nothing. In other words, the only reason I'm getting is that I filed a claim one time due to a blizzard over two years ago?

I placed a call to the executive staff and spoke with Betty who said she would look into it for me. Her findings were that I had an insurance rating of a 4 and it should be between 1&2. She said that score wasn't good but it wasn't bad either. I point blank asked her, "What you are telling me is that besides a score that makes no sense because I've always had insurance on everything I'm required to, bottom line is that I'm being denied insurance because I filed a claim? I used a service that I've paid for?" She said, "Yes." Now, she did say I wasn't using all the correct terminology but I'm not a licensed agent and the bottom line is I just want the facts she told me.

How come a company will allow me a policy on my car and not an apartment? I'm more likely to be part of an accident on the road than I am to cause damage to an entire apartment complex. Here's my bottom line to Allstate: I trusted you to take care of all my insurance needs for many, many years and I have no doubt that you have received a hundred times over from my pocket than what came out of yours. I will be taking my business elsewhere. I am filing this formal complaint to let consumers know "You're in good hands with Allstate" until you actually need them.

After receiving a review of my mortgage escrow statement and seeing a monthly increase as insurance is included in escrow, I reviewed my last two years’ Homeowners bills. My annual policy had increased 29% without any claims, and I had been with Allstate for 10 years. When I called to inquire why it went up, they said they had a national increase of 27%! Wow! What a way to keep a customer! No warning and I lost out on 7 months of increase without realizing it until escrow review. I said I'd definitely be shopping around. After that, I received a letter to "bring my car insurance over and save on a bundle". Yeah, all over that! Instead, I moved my Homeowners over to Progressive where I have car insurance and saved 117%! When I called to cancel Allstate, they then asked what they could do to keep me. "Rewrite the policy?" Too little too late, why not "rewrite it" to begin with upon first complaint? Allstate, not in good hands!

In weak hands with Allstate - Before closing on my house on May 30, 2012, I hired an inspector to check it out. He did his inspection in mid-April. Among the things he told me was that the roof was not perfect, but with a coating this year the roof would last two or three years, and that the house was otherwise is good shape. I also had a VA inspector do his own inspection just days before closing. Last night, I got a letter from Allstate, notifying me that they were canceling my homeowner's insurance as of mid-August because I had a "severe" crack in the roof. No prior notice of a problem. No opportunity given to fix it, just a cancellation.

Today, I found out that 10 days after my inspector looked at the roof, their inspector did the same but found a "severe" crack in the roof, which had to be fixed immediately. No one at Allstate told me it needed to be fixed immediately. In fact, one woman at their office told me it wasn't their job to tell me what condition it was in. In essence, if the house was as bad as they told me it was today, which they knew more than a month before I closed on the property, then by their inaction, they forced me to buy a house that they deemed uninsurable and which could prove to be unhealthy due to mold.

They couldn't provide an explanation for where the report was since it was generated on April 27, but they patted themselves on the back for providing insurance to a new homeowner before knowing the house's condition. My original inspector offered to re-inspect the roof, and I am going to have it coated this month as I'd planned to do in September anyway. I dearly hope the insurance company was wrong, and the evidence does suggest they were wrong. We'll soon find out. What annoys me most though is that if it is a problem, it can only have gotten worse and more expensive due to 3 months of inaction, which would be their fault.

I take comfort in the fact that cracked roofs don't fix themselves, and the VA inspector didn't see a severe crack. VA inspectors are known to be picky, and wouldn't have let the VA loan go through if they'd seen serious problems.

I had water damage to my bedroom ceiling, walls of my bedroom, living room, and bathroom from a suspected leak from a third floor shower. On advice from Allstate's claims rep, my plumber prepared an assessment of necessary repairs and what he would have to do in order to find the exact cause of the leak. I gave the adjuster the written assessment, and he said, "This is a lot of money!"

He then proceeded to look at the damaged areas and the bathroom, and in a nasty and dismissive way, he told me that Allstate was not in the "business of remodelling my house" and that he would have to get his own plumber to come out to my house to find the cause. And he said that he could not accommodate my schedule, so I did not have to take another day off from work with a visit by his plumber, because "plumbers work the same hours as I do."

I complained to his supervisor, who yelled at me and told me he has never had a complaint against this adjuster and that he "apologized for me interpreting what the adjuster said in a wrong way." He also told me that because I would not let the adjuster turn on the shower to see if that was the cause of the leak (I did not want any more water damage), the adjuster did not think I had a sudden and accidental loss.

I had to call the regional manager to get the adjuster and his supervisor to try and find a plumber to try and accommodate my schedule, so I did not have to take another day off without pay. And my son still cannot use his shower, and I still have water damage all over my house. I have never been treated so shabbily and in a such a discourteous way. When I complained to the claims rep, she was ineffective. I get it that the adjuster did not want to pay anything, but he was so nasty and offensive about it that I asked him to leave my house - and I still have to deal with him! I am so discouraged and dismayed that I don't know what to do.

Allstate depreciated the fair estimate and took my deductible as well, leaving me with enough money just to really get the door fixed. Allstate sent us a renewal for $589, then they sent another for $823. By law, we must keep our flood insurance and we have since 1991. Our insurance agent has the proof that we are in compliance, but they have to go with Allstate to keep from losing their jobs. There must be a code of ethics that Allstate is breaking. It must be a law that they are breaking. There must be a legal law here in Louisiana that protects the consumer. Hurricane Katrina destroyed my home but I feel like Allstate is doing more damage. All this is about is the ICC payment; if they don't acknowledge our elevation, then they won't have to pay the ICC payment that they approved. He told me I could increase my deductible, but was not able to successfully communicate to me how that might impact a claim, stating numbers that didn't match up. He also told me that if I let them cover my auto, they could give me a discount on the rate. How can they insure more property for less? Then this week, I got a renewal letter saying my insurance is going back up for 2012 to 2013. I can't even understand how Allstate can get away with doing this. This form states that I was going to move into the house within 3 months after signing the contract. The house was still under construction. I never saw this form and as I mentioned before, it is unsigned. The Florence agency will not admit that they sent the form and will not discuss anything about the claim with me.

It seems that Allstate does not want their agents to sell homeowner policies to unoccupied residences. None of this changes the fact that Allstate has an outstanding obligation to pay on the claim. They have stalled for a year now and I guess my next step is to hire a lawyer. In NYS, the insurance companies have successfully lobbied that if an insurance company loses in court, they do not have to pay the lawyer and court expenses of the insured so they have nothing to lose. Allstate has a history of stalling and dragging out the payments of legitimate claims hoping the participants die or will accept a low ball offer. It seems that ethics, fairness, playing by the rules all have no place in the Allstate method of conducting their business.

When I contacted Allstate, the man that answered the phone started to rattle off a list of things that are not covered. When he was done (10 minutes later), I told him what the issue was (none of it had anything to do with his spiel from a few minutes prior). He told me that it would not be covered because the pipes are obviously old (imagine his surprise to learn that these pipes were around 5 years new)! Of course, the next logical thing for him to determine is, well it’s very obvious that the leak had been leaking for "sometime", not covered.

My plumber had taken pictures and spoke to Allstate on my behalf and tried to let them know this was sudden and accidental (I also had a second opinion from another plumber, he agreed with the first plumber). Shame on Allstate! What about consumer's rights? Why weren't we notified that putting in more than one claim would result in terminating our policy? I will never do business with them again.

A drunk driver crashed in our home on February 01, 2012, and damaged our home, 4 vehicles, gate, and till now, Allstate has done anything, or send out an inspector to help us out. Allstate is stating that we, the owners, have to find a contractor in our area to get an estimate, and we did, but the contractor went away for 2 weeks, and we called Allstate to see, if they can send an inspector out, and they mentioned that they do not send inspectors out for homeowners claims! Never heard that before in my whole life. It's a horrible company to deal with. I kept calling them, and they keep transferring my phone call to different claims adjusters. I am looking for a lawyer. Please help!

In December, I received my homeowners quote from Allstate for my primary residence. The quote was $2400, up from $1800 last year. Then in January, another quote was sent to me for $3700 a year. I have had no claims and been an Allstate customer for over 30 years, both home and auto, never having filed a claim. I am upside down in my house trying to hold onto it and will possibly be laid off from my job in September. My agent is worthless and indifferent! I am going to drop both home and auto insurance from Allstate and never do business with them again. I recommend everyone else do the same.

I received my policy renewal from Allstate. This policy covers a summer residence I own in Pennsylvania. The cost of the policy increased from $1002 to $1365. Over 33% increase. No claims filed last year. A claim was filed approximately two years ago. At that time the premium increased from approximately $700 to the $1002. So in the few years I have had Allstate, premiums increased 100%. Imagine that. The explanation for this year’s increase include more storms in the area than usual and payouts exceeding premiums. So to make up the difference, just increase everyone's premiums. I would love to have a business that I could make up the difference on the back of my customers and the customer has no recourse. This is legal robbery. The housing market has been down for 3-4 years. Did my coverage change because my house is valued less than before? No, it did not. Premiums were never adjusted. To be able to do this unilaterally is simply unacceptable.

Recently, my basement suffered severe flooding. The original cause was thought to be a bad sump pump. I filed a claim via the Allstate 800 number, spending almost 30 minutes between the wait and the time to explain the need for a claim. The overall filing experience was ok and I was left with a feeling that all would be taken care of by Allstate.

Silly me for trusting Allstate, when they finally got around to contacting me several days later, (they delegated this to a minion, not the actual adjuster in charge of my claim) I was informed there was a clause in the fine print which specifically denied coverage for sump pump failure.

This was rather upsetting, considering the length of time and care I had spent when setting up the policy in the first place. When establishing the policy, I was very clear in describing my coverage needs. I very carefully explained that I required coverage for sump pump, ground water, and for absolutely any reason the basement might become flooded or otherwise suffer water damage. I was assured the coverage would be in place.

I've come to realize it is a good idea to have an attorney examine one's policy after it is written. Allstate is apparently quite good at and seems to be renowned for sneaking in exemptions.

Two weeks after my claim was denied, new information came to light which completely changed the reason for the original flooding. I reported to the adjuster that the flooding was caused by a broken drain pipe fitting which had been damaged by a contractor who installed my backyard drain field. They had drilled right into the drain pipe or otherwise broke the fitting when installing the drain field output pipe.

I reported the new information to the adjuster. She promptly informed that: (1.) the sump pump exclusion definitely did not apply (yippee! I thought), but (2.) there was yet another exclusion in the fine print which did not provide coverage for any standing water, water below ground, or water from outside the house making its way into the basement. In my opinion, given her tone, she really didn't even try to disguise her lack of concern either.

Again I fall back on my original conversation with the policy writer(s), with whom I had specifically stated the need for coverage against my basement flooding for any reason. It's a shame when we have to hire an attorney to read our homeowner policies to ensure the "Good Hands" people won't sneak in exclusions. I'm now out $20,000 of my hard earned savings. It took me 24 years of military service to build up a nest egg, only to have it destroyed.

    Personal Lessons learned:
    1. Have an uninterested professional review your policy before you pay for it.
    2. Don't ever trust an insurance professional. They are in the business to take your money, not to give it out.

    3. In my humble opinion, Allstate is a terrible idea. Save your money for a more trustworthy company.

I am a veteran who returned from Iraq after a year of deployment in June 2011. During my deployment I filed for divorce and the judge ordered my ex-wife to move out of the house. On or about October 26th, 2011, I walked in my home to it vandalized. After filing a police report, I called Allstate Insurance to report the damages.

Today is February 8th, 2012, it has been 102 days now since my claim has been filed and I have not heard anything from Allstate. I've been in contact with the GA Insurance Commissioner, my congressman, the mortgage company. Now Allstate wants another recorded statement from me of what took place. They said they would call me to get that statement last week but I have not heard from them. I am left now renting a room for the past three months from an Army Sgt. I served with in Iraq. I would like to thank Allstate for doing a superb job in taking their sweet time to work my claim.

In October 2011, a piece of personal property was stolen from our locked property in our absence. Allstate refused to cover it at all. I had been assured we were adequately covered, agent visited us last fall. Our loss would require in excess of $30,000.00 to replace it. They claim that they are exempt, based on a fine print in a clause that was never intended to cover that item . They say it could not be used off my property and I used it in volunteer activity at the church. But it was stolen from our home property. They will not pay a penny! Allstate advertising is one grand sham!

I want to file a complaint about the recent television commercial that AllState has been running. It really does need to be taken off the air. It is appalling how the commercials, (1) show men in an inferior position and (2) show men as dumb. This particular commercial shows a "young white guy as dumb," clearly stating that in the dialogue within the commercial. The commercial shows the Negro and the Hispanic as smart. Why does any commercial have to show anyone as dumb? No, they can redo this commercial to not degrade anyone. It is clearly a put down to a young white male.

My family and I are sick and tired of the way men in this country are being depicted in the television commercials, and AllState is certainly participating in this despicable way of communicating a point. It makes me angry. If I saw this commercial and I had AllState Insurance, I would drop it in a minute, no, a second!

In 2008, I called the Allstate agent as I had wind damage on my roof. They did not pay anything out, instead I paid for the repair. I am going to change to another company, as Allstate has gotten too expensive and this claim shows up as a claim, without a payout of funds. This action on Allstate's part brings my rate up and they refuse to even write a letter to submit to the other company. I have been a good customer for over 20 years and feel this is an unfair action. It results in about 40.00 more a 6-month policy in my rates. I work only part time, and do about 20 hours of volunteer work a week. I feel this is extremely unfair .

Just received notice from Allstate that my homeowner's insurance is being cancelled because I don’t have an auto policy with them. Within 7 years, no claims and I always make prompt payments in full. They gave me three months warning, but I called Geico and they gave me a policy for about the same price with twice the coverage. I am not happy with Allstate!
