My NEW Snapper Snowblower broke halfway through 3rd time using it. R.S. Hollinger in Mountville, PA said that I had to pay for parts and labor for the auger belt that they had to order. Boy do they become very customer unfriendly when you need something. Cannot find phone # for Snapper Customer Service to call and complain. The address is Snapper PO Box 702 Milwaukee, WI 53201-0702. I purchased my 3rd Snapper (Model RE110) in May of this year. My first was a rear engine rider I got from my father when he moved to a nursing home. Between his use and mine it was about 15 years old when I gave it to my daughter and purchased a new Yard Cruiser. I got 16 years out of the Yard Cruiser before the deck rusted through and I decided to trade for a new one. I was impressed with the 3 year warranty offered by Briggs on the new Snapper but, based on my prior experience with Snappers, did not ever expect to need to use it.

However, the RE110 has been nothing but trouble from day 1. I have mowed my yard almost a many times this year with my neighbor's Craftsman or my push mower as I have with the new Snapper. My yard is about an acre so the push mower is a long day's work. I have not mowed the yard 3 times in a row without the mower breaking down. There have been 2 repeating problems with this mower.

First, the drive mechanism has required adjustment or parts replacement several times. It looks to me like Briggs really screwed this up because it worked flawlessly on the one built 30 years ago. The second issue was with the steering. This unit has a pinion gear at the bottom of the steering shaft that mates with gear teeth on a bent metal plate connected to the wheels to steer the mower. This is so poorly engineered that it keeps wearing the teeth off of the metal plate under normal use (mowing an acre of residential lawn every 5-8 days) in less than 3 months. (Remember, some of that mowing was done with other mowers because this POJ was in the shop for other repairs.) My dealer (who I have known for over 60 years) was kind enough to trade me out of this POJ for a use mower he had taken in trade.

Now he tells me Snapper does not even want to reimburse him for the repairs he made to this POJ. So much for the value of a 3 year warranty with Briggs. In my opinion, if they were concerned with high quality and with the troubles this unit has had, they should buy it back at retail price and take it to their engineering department to see what the problems are. I wouldn't even think of buying another Snapper and I would resist buying anything with a Briggs engine because it doesn't seem they really care about customer satisfaction or producing quality products.

I have had no problems with the belts on my deck. This is my 3rd year with the lawn tractor. No replacements yet. Mower engine is quiet and runs smooth. This mower is a nice heavy duty unit. With that said - I have one problem with my LT-125... and it's pretty important. I have a problem with the cut. This has happened since day 1. And, yes, I procrastinated and did not bring the mower back to the dealer before the warranty ran out. The LT-125 is a 2-blade mower. So, the blades have to overlap to make an even 42-inch cut, right? Well...

I see where the deck is angled so the blades overlap, but that isn't working so well with my mower. My mower leaves a skinny grass"'Mohawk" down the middle of my mowing swath. I've never, ever seen such a thing. And now I have it with the most expensive mower I have ever purchased. I thought I was buying a high quality machine. It looks and feels like a quality mower, but the cut doesn't overlap.

I thought I chipped a blade or the blades were dull. Not the issue. I took the deck off the mower, turned it upside down and there is a good 3/8 of an inch gap (or more) between the blades. Both blades are the same length. I brought the blades to the dealer. He didn't see anything wrong with the blades. Found out the Dealer no longer sells the Snapper Lawn tractors. He said they couldn't compete with the big box stores. Their lawn tractors were selling for much less. I knew this. I really felt the Snapper had some serious heavy-dutiness to them....and I still do.

Now the dealer only sells the more expensive Zero turns and bigger units. The dealer acted like he really didn't want to deal with my problem. Great, now I have to find a way to get this mower cutting properly. Very disappointed. This just proves to me that I need to get on the bandwagon and shop at the big box stores. At least they will assist me better. They, at least, tell you upfront where the Lawn tractor can be serviced. Now what do I do with my $2000+ lawn tractor that cuts Mohawks in my lawn. I feel like I am mowing my lawn twice. Sorry for my rant, but this has been VERY disappointing to me.

PS - The Dealer did tell me to bring the Lawn tractor in so they could look at it. I guess I will be shelling out more money to fix their design flaw... if it is fixable. Thanks.

I paid $2000 for a Snapper 150Z 4 years ago. It has a little over 80 hours of mowing on it. I have NEVER completed a mowing without something breaking. I have had over $1000 worth of repairs and parts including 2 tires, 2 belts, 3 seat switches, and new blades. This is a piece of junk. The place I bought it will do nothing about it and Snapper will do nothing about it. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES BUY A SNAPPER. It has cost me an average of $37.50 an hour to use this piece of garbage.

We have owned an NXT for three years and it has been nothing but trouble from day one! Every time we mow, it needs to go into the shop for some sort of repair: Bolts holding up mower deck in front have sheared off twice now; does NOT mow evenly, leaves grass ridges; display constantly says that an oil change is needed and it does not need to be done; sometimes starts, sometimes have to remove the 'key' several times before it will 'catch' and start; the hood holders have broken off. It is a constant money drain! Would NOT recommend this mower at all! Zero stars, but have to mark one in order to post this. We have paid for this mower x2 with all the repairs.

We bought a Snapper SP70 self-propelled lawn mower from Wal-Mart. We took it home and spent roughly an hour reading instructions, prepping, adding gas and oil. It started on the first pull but it bucked like crazy, actually bouncing off the ground. I stopped the engine immediately and checked for loose or bent blades or other problems. Nothing was visible. I tried to restart it... nothing happened. I let it rest for 30 minutes and tired to start again. Nothing happened. I returned the machine to Wal-Mart the next day and they took it back with no questions asked.

This was clearly a problem that could have been picked up by a decent quality control operation but obviously, Snapper (now owned by Briggs & Stratton), like many American companies, has passed its quality control to the consumer. They throw products together and send them out the door with no inspection of any kind, leaving that final inspection in the hands of the buyer. They and their dealers will gladly take bad products back within 30 days with no questions asked but what about the time and hassle the consumers go through dealing with the bad product? They really don't care about that because apparently, in the long run, it's cheaper than running a quality control organization within the company. They also don't seem to care about loss of customer confidence in their products or loss of brand loyalty.

Years ago, I had a Snapper riding lawn mower. I paid extra for it because it had a great reputation and it ran well for seven years when I sold it to get a bigger machine, a Poulan lawn tractor. The Poulan lasted for 18 years though I did have to replace an engine after seven years. Unfortunately, the government's ethanol scam finally took it out of service. I replaced it with an expensive John Deere (based on its reputation and reviews); now I'm learning here that even John Deere is having problems with its customer service and support. I could have spent $500 to $800 less and bought a Murray or Yard Machines tractor with the same or possibly lower potential for problems.

I've been doing my own maintenance for years and will continue with the Deere but about all I can really do is just keep my fingers crossed and hope I've been lucky enough to accidentally get a quality product. It's clear that American companies really don't care about the quality of the products they're delivering to consumers. And that, my friends, is a direct result of corporate greed.

TPS, you can probably guess, stands for total piece of ... I was cutting the yard last Saturday and noticed that the front wheel was at a 45 degree angle - not good. I got it back to the garage, jacked it up, and the front wheel fell off. After a short look, and I am not mechanic, the entire axle and wheel were shredded because someone in the factory forgot to grease the front lower fitting. It's covered under warranty - big deal - I'm still waiting for the dealer to get replacement parts and there is no effort from Snapper (owned by Briggs & Stratton) to fix in a hurry. The sad part of the story is that it is "Made in the USA" but I was told by the dealer that it was probably a Friday production. Good thing that I have a great neighbor with a John Deere and a farmer down the road with cows and goats, if needed. Buy something else!!!!!

Easy to see why the product is called Snapper...everything snaps. Never have had a problem with a lawnmower before.

We had purchased a NXT lawn mower online in 2010. We have had it into the repair shop every year, and this year, the battery needed to be replaced. We took it to the recommended place that the warranty people sent us to, and they told me that they put a new battery in the mower. I tried starting it after the guy said, "How do you start this thing?" He’s a repairman and didn't know how to start a lawn mower? Then, this other guy said it had to be at least 50 degrees outside before it would start. How dumb is that.

I told my husband, and he has a snow blower with the same motor as the lawn mower, and if the lawnmower doesn't work at less than 50 degrees, I guess the snow blower will not work either? It is costing me $95.17 to get it fixed, and this is what the response I get. They told me to bring it back, and they would fix it. Each and every time I have taken it to them, I have to turn around and take it back because it doesn't work right. The last time, my husband had to rebuild it so he could get the charger on because they didn't put it back together right. We could not charge the mower. I would like some answers. I have about had it with Snapper and the idiots that work on them.

The neighbors on both sides of me bought Z150s and also experienced the same issue. The techs representing Snapper have told me that they have no clue as to what is causing it. The fluid for the transfer case is filled at the factory and none of these units have ever leaked (all are less than 2 yrs old). I too purchased a Snapper mower - the RE200. What is up with Snapper? They made a great mower at one time, but, as the saying goes, "Them days are gone forever." At first, I couldn't even find a dealership that knew the RE200 existed in the Snapper inventory. After contacting ten dealerships, I finally contacted Snapper regarding the problem. I also explained that my lot must have once been a nuclear dumping ground or an old Native American burial ground as very little grass grew but I needed to get a mower that would work on my property. I explained that I would probably need a four-wheel drive to get around the yard.

Although half joking about the four wheel drive, I told the sales rep I needed a mower tough enough to handle my yard. After several days, the mower was finally located at a dealership 54 miles away from where I lived. I live on a 1/2 acre lot with a house, two tree islands and about 1/3 of the remaining land is a detention pond to control run off from the subdivision. I was able to cut the grass four times and the mower's transmission went out on the fifth cutting halfway through the yard. Since I had such a time finding the mower, I wanted to find a qualified service tech that could work on my mower. After several e-mails from the service department manager, who continued to ask me to repeat my request. Now, the mower will go back to the dealership where it was purchased and roll the dice as to be correctly repaired.

The poor construction of the mower body, horrible design of the bagging system, and total lack of concern regarding the customer make me one, apparently, of many who would never recommend Snapper to anyone.

I purchased an LT2342 Lawn Tractor 23 hp BS 42" in July. After mowing 3-4 times, the belt broke, a little too much for thick grass. Having replaced this, a run-in with a tree root broke the spindle and pulley. Yes, mea culpa for expecting a lawn mower to withstand sticks and grass tufts as in the old days of 1991 when the materials used to make these machines could withstand the wear and tear.

Too bad, so sad. I hope the shareholders are happy with the profit the company makes by cutting corners to turn out a truly useless product. Shame. I've been mowing lawns for 30 years and have never had complete machine breakdown as a result of everyday run-ins like this Snapper. Lovely when the vendors tell you that the problem is owner abuse.

The vendor/repair did not make an effort to honor the warranty. I must pressure vendor to submit request for honor of warranty (long grass/belt break) per Snapper representative I must work with, and pressure vendor to accept return and refund of the machine.

The Snapper 800 number said that in turn, they will work with the vendor to resell the machine so this return will not result in a loss for the vendor.

Take responsibility for your actions instead of voicing complaints about a product that actually excels. If you run over a root and damage the mower, then warranty wouldn't apply; you caused the damage and now it's a bad product? Please!

I have a Snapper, 30" cut, "butterfly" steering wheel type mower that I bought exactly three years ago for just over $1,000 and have had it in the shop seven times, all in the first year. It was hardly used the second year since I was in a rental house and now I am having to take it in again an eighth time as I start mowing my newly established yard. The first year's problems had everything to do with a pull starter that would nearly jerk your arm off if you didn't pull it just the right way. I actually have a scar on my chest where the cord was ripped out of my hand, back into the mower, the handle cutting my chest through my shirt.

The dealer actually thought I was lying to him when I told him of the situation, saying that he had never heard of a cord doing such a thing! A new guy actually fixed the problem in about five minutes that seventh time in when he tried to load it, and nearly had his arm pulled off. The latest problem I have is a severe engine vibration that causes me to feel it in my body well into the next day after mowing. I have fixed vibration problems in the past by replacing unbalanced blades and have just completed replacing the blade, figuring it was the problem. I can keep the blade unengaged and have a deep vibration from the engine area through the seat and steering wheel. The dealer said, "Well, these engines are pretty violent, but bring it on in." I guess I will again, and sell it if I can.

The Snapper dealer's name is The Rental Center in Auburn, Alabama. I will never buy another Snapper mower! Just for the record, I had an old 28" Snapper mower that was absolutely ancient, before I bought this new one. Snapper used to make a good product. They need to take care of folks. Until they do, I am telling everyone I know how they have fallen in their quality. Buy something else!

We were not offered a replacement when I called the manager of Sears. He wasn't even concerned about my son's singed hair. It wasn't bad, but could have been so much worse. The bottom line is, we don't want this mower anymore. We want to drop it off at our local Sears store and head to John Deere or somewhere that fixes mowers that they sell. We do have a 2 year warranty on the Snapper, but what we want is quality and safety, not junk. After reading other reviews, I think we might have just wasted our money. Sears and Snapper...get with it! When we spend quality money, we want a quality product with no inconveniences.

In May of 2007, I purchased a Snapper rear engine rider from Turf and Timber, the local Snapper dealer. I wish to warn everone not to deal with this business. Apparantly they deal with lawn care companies and do not care for home use people. The first problem was getting the first replacement blade after the purchase. My wife went in to get a blade, and they wanted to know the model number, why could they have not looked in their computer and found everything about their sale to me. In this day, they should have the model and serial number on record for a $2000.00 mower. My wife explained to them that she needed a blade for a mower just like the 2 in the showroom.

After much looking in books, the part number was found, and they did not have one in stock, but there were blades in their store in Dothan, AL. My wife then drives 60 miles round trip to get a blade. The problem now is that the clutch safety switch is bad and the mower will not run without this part. I went to the dealer, and they do not have one. They said they could order one, I needed the mower to run that day. I told them that I would wire the mower where it would run without the safety switch.

This mower is under warranty, and is now being operated in an unsafe manner. This dealer does not care, because they could have removed a switch from the mowers on the sales floor and went to my home and replaced the switch. I owned a Snapper mower in the early 80's, back when Snapper was not part of the Briggs and Stratton Group, the dealer was great and the mower was excellent.

A 250 Z zero-turn Snapper mower purchased 5/29/08 to replace a 10 year old Snapper riding mower. Within approximately 20 hours of use we have experienced various problems -- a melted fender, loose muffler and clap, nuts & bolts falling off and replaced, a seperation of muffler and tail pipe, a muffler metal cage strip melted to the muffler, and a spacer missing from the cage frame around the muffler. The driver of the mower is a mature adult (50-60yr) we mow approximately 2 acres of residential/farm ground.

The Snapper company 1-800-935-2967 does not back their product -- it does not have a return policy and the dealer isn't willing or in a position to buy it back (as he says).

Bought a snapper weed wacker /roto tiller and the gas lines rottesd off and they won't replace them and no one around here works on them or sells them but Wal-Mart. I have writting them but they will not do anything about it. I don't have money to throw away like that. If they are going to make a product then they should stand behind it.

I have a riding Snapper mower with a rear engine 12.5hp. When I was cleaning the under deck, the oil dip-stick was not on properly and all the oil drained out with out noticing due to the water and grass clippings, The problem is when the mower is standing up-right the lube oil dip-stick becomes the LOW POINT and will empty your oil reservoir. If the engine was rotated 160 degrees then lube oil spout would become the high point when the mower is in the up-right position not allowing engine oil to run out and costing mega $$$$ to replace. The engine seized up and had to be replaced.

I have an 18 48 Zero Turn Snapper Mower, and as others have stated - the cost of the machine verses the cost of the continuous repairs is unacceptable. I have had to replace the belts twice a season and the mower deck pulleys once a season. I use my mower to mow my yard and put about 40 hours of use on it per season. Now one of the pulley brackets broke causing damage to the belt and pulleys. What is happening with Snapper products? My mechanic is almost as frustrated as I am and has become so disappointed in Snapper products that he is no longer recommending the purchase of Snappers - even though he once was the leading seller of Snapper products in our area.

I purchased my first snapper z-rider in 1997 it was a 25 hp gas model with a 61 front mount deck. I used this unit for about 220hrs and traded it off 2 years later in 1999 for a 21hp diesel model that had more power and better economy. That is when the trouble started. The first problem started three months later when we recieved the first significant snowfall of that winter and I had my snow blower installed but my snapper would not start unless I heated my garage to 60 degrees. The battery is much to small for a diesel motor and it was nearly immpossible to start. then the PTO clutch failed at less than 100 hrs which was covered under the warranty. then the starter went out on it and was covered under the warranty. since then I have replaced the starter 4 times at an average cost of nearly $400 each time with me installing the starter myself. then the bearing problems came along with deck bearings and the front and rear hanger bearings going out. I keep the unit greased and serviced on a regular basis. the next thing was the drive shaft yoke broke and the replacement cost for that was $239. the latest breakdown was only 4 days ago while mowing my lawn the pivot pin on the rear wheel assembly broke completly off leaving my rear monted engine assembly laying on the ground with the wheel assemply layed next to it. there is another $118 for parts.

I bought a new 30 inch snapper riding mower. When I go to start it it kicks back very hard, it's a 11.5 hp pull start . I had to put it in the shop twice before I got it started. I guess I'm stuck with a new pretty piece of junk .

I paid Cash from a dealer in Gainesville, fl. Equipment direct Inc. I was told it was a commercial unit and I had a 2 year commercial warranty. But when the unit broke down on me, I carried it to a authorized Snapper repair dealer. it caught fire in their repair shop. it was repaired with the beleif that it was under a 2 year warranty. The very next day the unit stopped working on one of its 2 cylinders. The snapper rep. for our area is now informing me it is not a commercial unit and is only warrented for 90 days.

The repair place ( M&M Equipment of Bronson Fl. ) is now tring to pursue me for the parts plus repair cost. The difference between the unit I was sold and the commercial unit of the same size is $100.00 M.S.R.P.

Bought a new 48 Snapper Lawn Cruiser...paid more or less $4,000.00. The Lawn Cruiser has yet to go a mowing season without 100.00 to 200.00 worth of servicing annually. Initially pulleys would wear out after two or three mowings of about two acres. I began to grease the fittings before each use as suggested by the dealer...it helped but I find ridiculous...finally the dealer replaced the pulleys with a new pulley provided by Snapper. Belts wear out about three times per season. The mower doesn't cut hard grass.
