The Safe Step rep I dealt with answered everything and I had a beautiful interaction with him. The installation team had a good rapport with my husband, and they cleaned up, and everything went smoothly. Safe Step seemed like a good quality tub. We’re gonna have to get a bigger hot water tank but other than that, the tub works wonderful. I got it for my sister. She has dementia and she can’t really operate everything. So, I thought the Safe Step would help give her some independence. I like the tub a lot. I like its lighting, too.
Hi Joyce, I'm glad we were able to help your sister find a safe bathing solution! We wish you the best, and thank you for letting us know you enjoy it!

I was needing a Safe Step walk-in tub for health reasons. I had problems with the back calf of my leg that was in a bad shape. I knew the tub would be a big investment and if I was gonna do it, I needed to do that time. They offered a lot of discounts. The sales rep I worked with was very good and helpful. Meanwhile, the installers were informative and they took pride in what they did. They also did it as less invasive to the rest of my life. They worked in the bathtub and had to get all the other stuff out and widen the door. In the end, it all worked nicely for me.
So far, I like the jets that provide massage. I also like the heat. Another thing is that I learned that you don't put very much bubbles in there if you're gonna have jets because I bubbled up everywhere before the water could reach all the other stuff. I had fun though. Since the installation of the tub, my legs aren't cramping anymore so it's been a lot better. The Safe Step walk-in tub is a rare thing for me, but I'm glad I waited to get it. I wish though that I could have afforded it earlier in life.
Thanks so much for letting us know Pam. So glad to hear it's helping!

I liked the representative from Safe Step who came out and talked to me. She was very informative. She showed me options because I was not sure what I was looking for. The installation team walked me through everything. They were nice and they cleaned up the area. It was a good experience. My parents love the tub and they look forward to it every day. They like the jets and the little microscopic bubbles.
That's so great to hear! Thank you for letting us know, and I hope your parents keep on enjoying!

The Safe Step sales representatives were great. They were very knowledgeable and it took the people who installed it just around seven to eight hours. It was quick. We got Safe Steps because their tub had the shower and the heated seat included. However, there are things that I don't like about the tub. One, the place where you stay in to take a shower is too narrow. Also, I haven’t figured out how to use the hand wand. I’ve turned every little stick and knobs, but I just can’t figure it out. I wish the door opened out instead of opening in because it is a very tight squeeze and it breaks your legs. I’m not that big, but I hate shutting the thing when I get back in. I really wish the door had an outside opening. I’ve seen advertised things with American Standard and they offer that option.
I’m looking forward to when I can get in and use the tub because I’m disabled. The tub has been installed since December the 14th and all I’ve got to do was take one shower in it. I’m suffering from panic attacks and I’ve had to use my other bathroom because if I shut the door and I fit there, I get the water about halfway up my shin and I start panicking. I have to let the water out and get out of there as fast as I could. It is a nice tub, though.
Hi Samuel, I'm so sorry to hear that you're having that experience, and that it is too narrow. Please call our customer service department so that they can go over the options, and find a way to resolve this. I hope this helps!

Our Safe Step rep went by a script. I was sure he was taught to do it, but I wish that we had more information and less of the script. I've sold things in the past, and I've learned that that's not the best way to be a good salesman. We didn't end up finding out about some of the things that we were curious about until later. Then, I had the most horrible experience I've had in a long time with the installation team that came. They were smart aleck. I have an office here in my home, and I have an employee, and both of us were really surprised at some of the smart alecky stuff that went on.
During the installation, the only time I went in there was when they took out our old shower. I looked to make sure that there was no water damage behind the old shower, and there was none. There wasn't even a ring where water had dripped, and I was really excited about that. When they were getting finished, they asked me to sign a paper. I signed it, but the paper said that I was completely satisfied and that there were no problems. They did some sheetrock damage and so I put it there. Evidently, that went to the home office and everybody saw it, so the man who is in charge in North Carolina called the installer. The guy from the installation team told that man that we had told him there was no problem with the sheetrock damage, and that we were getting ready to remodel the bathroom anyway, which was a complete lie. That was never said and there was no reason to say it.
The guy also told me that the home office called and told him that I called in and complained about the sheetrock. I told him that when I called in, I didn't even mention that. I also told him that if they record calls like they say they do, he'd find out. We weren't even complaining about the sheetrock, I just put it on the paper that there was sheetrock damage. We never asked them to fix it or said, "When are you coming back?" Randall and I had already agreed that we would fix it so between us, it was a moot point. But then, I don't like being lied to. That burns me up.
What I called about was a crease that was made in the place where the shelf joined what was already there at the tub. When my husband took a shower the next morning, the water went down that crease like a little channel and ran out into the floor, and he didn't know it. It went all into the guest bedroom and all over the guest bedroom carpet. I called Safe Step and told them that that channel was an issue, that we've never had water damage, and that we couldn't deal with water damage at that time. I also told them that I'd deal with the sheetrock, but I would not deal with the water damage. Randall was so upset and told me to tell Safe Step to get the tub. He was not having it. He can't even take a shower in it.
But the guy still complained. I told him that I wanted them to come out here and talk to me about my options and he said, "I don't have time to come out there." I thought, "Well, you got our check for $15,000. You didn't have to wait on anything." The guy told me that all he could do was put up an $11 piece of plastic. I told him I also wanted to talk about the glass doors and that I wanted someone to come and show me what my options were. He told me that he didn't have time, and so I told him to just take the tub back. I wasn't trying to ask for anything or to get anything for free. I just wanted to know what my options were. He then told me that he didn't know when he could come and that he'll call me and let me know.
He called me and said that he could be here by next Thursday. When they came out here, he came out with that piece of plastic that he bought for $11. He told me that that was all they could do, and to take it or leave it. I told him I wanted to see what it was, but he didn't even want to show me anything. I asked him how wide the door was and how it would swing out. I had a yardstick to see for myself how it would be because if the glass doors would look better, I'll get the glass doors. He took out a measuring tape. It's our secondary bathroom and it's a small one. There's a wall that protrudes out, and when he showed me the length of the door and how it went, that door would have been a real handicap.
When I saw that, I said, "Okay, well let's go ahead and try that piece, and if that works, that's fine." He told me that he needed some alcohol to clean the tub because there was a lot of soap scum on it. We've had a towel on it since day one because it leaked all over our floor. I didn't know what soap scum he thinks is in my house, but I didn't appreciate it. I guess he just says I'm a **. That was basically his attitude towards me. Also, he had his hands on Nicole's back every time he walked into the office, and she told me that she was creeped out. I gave him the alcohol, he put the thing on, and it has worked fine. It's not a problem and it doesn't look bad. As for the damaged sheetrock, they came back and dabbed some caulk there. But they didn't really attempt to fix the damage.
Overall, the tub is a great product and it's a huge deal for me. I love it and I'm in it every single day. My husband got it as a surprise for me. I was thrilled to death. I have bad knees and I have trouble walking. I stay inside the tub for two hours and I feel so much better when I get out of it. My legs are not swelling like they were. I would recommend Safe Step's tub to anybody. The installers, however, weren't worth a continental slip.

I haven't had the Safe Step walk-in tub that long, but so far, it seems like a good product. It is for my wife who has MS and I would recommend it for anyone who has that type of problem. It really helps my wife a lot with her disability. I went with them as I liked the way that it was advertised. My interaction with their sales reps went well. They had all the needs that I asked them for my wife. The installation team was friendly and they did everything professionally. We like the jets and the light therapy of the tub.

Safe Step Walk-in Tubs has micro bubbles feature that is unique and it seems to help the skin. It took the installation team 10 hours to install the tub. However, we had several issues as the installer reversed the dial from the foot to the back jets. They also banged the wall that I had to have a guy come out for that. And now, we are having problems with the stopper as it doesn’t seem to hold. We tried filling it up and it started leaking and will not hold very well. We have called and it seems to work now and then. I may have to have them come out again and see if they can do something better with it.
I also talked to somebody earlier right after the installation and told them that the headrest would be better if it was removable. We can go up and down, but it’s still close to the wall. It doesn't help my wife with her head the way her body fits with the height. It’s in the way and it would be almost better if we get rid of it. It was a shocker too that we can’t use the water jets and the micro air jet at the same time. When one is turned on, the other one goes off. I don't know what we would have done if we knew that in the beginning. I told the guy who called me right after the install about some of the stuff they can fix, especially the idea of having both jets going simultaneously. Maybe if they ever do a new model, it’s better they come out and upgrade ours.
In fact, it is the first time that my wife has been in a tub and I was surprised that the water does not go up high enough. I always thought it goes up at least to the shoulder so the whole body is emerged except the head, but it only really goes up to the middle of the stomach. It’s kind of disappointing. I went in there once and I had to scoot down. I don't think my wife can do that too well. Safe Step has to make it higher but I assume that would take more water. My wife said that when it was advertised, they showed women in there with their bubble-bath, but when you read the instruction, it says never use bubble-bath in the tub, so it was kind of odd.

I decided that I could try something like the Safe Step walk-in tub because of my age and because of my sciatica and pains. The representative at Safe Step was a nice fellow, but I was misrepresented as to what I was supposed to get versus what I got. I didn't get what I was supposed to get and I’m a little upset about that, and I may start legal action on this. I was negotiating with him for a price on a 51-inch tub and it had all the amenities in there. It had a free shower package and the outside towel on-the-door hanger, as well as a neck pillow. I wanted all of those amenities. However, I changed my mind for the simple reason that I have a tiled-in garden tub, and it is beautiful. That was where the new tub was supposed to go, but I figured that it will ruin all of the tile work. I have a tattered floor tiled down and it is gonna look like a patch-up job, so I figured I don’t wanna ruin that.
The representative said, “Well, I have a 48-inch tub that would do well in your present shower.” I said, “Oh, okay. Do I get all the amenities with the 48-inch tub versus the 51?” He said that I will get all of those, so I said okay. The day came to put in the tub and they did what they had to do, but upon completion, I looked at the tub and I said that I didn't have all the things that I wanted in there. The installer said, “Well, you contracted with them for a 48-inch.” I said, “Well, the representative said I was supposed to get that.” I was a little upset about all of those things. They gave me a call and said, “Oh, they’re gonna come in with a shower curtain. They’re gonna put in a pillow for the neck and they’re gonna find out how they can go ahead and put in a towel for the towel."
That is what we are in negotiation right now, but I am thinking of starting a legal action on Safe Step because I did not get what I was supposed to get. I got a call from one of their representatives and he said he was gonna try to get it all squared away. I called up the boss and I was a little hot under the collar, and he hung up on me. That surprised me and if that’s the way they gonna act to me, I’m gonna see a lawyer and have the situation squared away. I was also supposed to get the free shower package, which is being shown on TV.
I was watching TV and for a commercial came Brad Shaw, the football player, and he was soaking in the tub with all of the amenities that I want. Safe Step was saying it is a free package worth about $800, but I never got it. I also don’t know how they are gonna do it. The tub is already in and it is an older model tub. I negotiated for a Cadillac tub, and I got a used Chevy tub. My experience with Safe Step has not been so good. Right now, I’m at a low point.
Hi Ed, I'm so sorry to hear that you didn't receive the features you requested. I have looked up your file, and I see that we have sent you the headrest and that it was delivered on Tuesday the 19th. For the shower package dilemma, please call our service department as they'll be able to assist you with that. I hope we can resolve this as soon as possible so that you're able to enjoy your tub.

Safe Step Walk-in Tubs has made my bathing experience much better as I'm disabled and I have COPD, arthritis. It helps since I have anxiety attacks as well as with relaxation and joint pains. I got it as the tub is only made in the USA. Their sales reps were extremely helpful. They were very thorough in the explanation of the tub itself and of financial issues. Very personable young men came during installation and they got to work. They were very busy and they seemed to know exactly what they were doing. The work that was done was of excellent quality and I had nothing to complain about when they left.

Safe Step tubs appealed to me, and I got my second one. The installation was fine, but I was a little disappointed. The first tub I had was larger because the bathroom was larger. I have a larger bathroom here but I didn’t realize that I was gonna get a smaller tub. If I gained five pounds, I'm not gonna be able to use this new tub. Still, I like the lights in the tub I got though I'm a little leery of the heated seats. Also, I also haven't used my jets yet because when I was filling the tub one day, I only got it three-fourths full, and the water went cold. So, I know I'm gonna have to get a larger water heater. Nevertheless, the tub is definitely relaxing.

Safe-Step's rep was very sincere and he answered all my questions. He did a very nice job. However, there was a confusion with the installation date and the installers were sick and had to cancel. We had three different installation dates and they could have done better. When they showed up to do the installation, the man told me that his regular helper was not available and had a young person with him.
There was also some awkward time. For instance, we live in a ranch house and they used such force to break up the tub that our house, literally, shook. We also had some leaking in our plumbing pipes that bore us an expense. We felt that it was knocked loose with the force that they used. We had to have a service call and we also had to call a plumber and pay to have some of our plumbing repaired. There was another gentleman that came out to rectify some things and I mentioned those things to him, although he wasn’t here and didn’t have any part of that.
I did not get the right shower installed and it is causing a problem now. My husband’s health is declining, but he is getting better. However, we do not have the shower that was pictured and the stand-up shower is not working for us. Nonetheless, the unit itself is excellent, although we have some issues sometimes. I would recommend Safe Step. I have talked to several people about the unit and I’ve had a couple of friends stop by to see it. We were happy with the experience of the tub itself.

The representative from Safe Step who presented did very well. Plus, the walk-in tub seemed like it was gonna be more effective for my lady friend for some relief on her joint and muscular pain. During the installation, the team was on top of it and they were right on the ball. They knew what they were doing and took care of it. I had seen Safe Step's ad in AARP and paid attention to it for the first time after talking with a realtor about us needing a step-in tub. She told us that one of her clients' biggest regrets in having to move into a retirement home was that she had to leave her Safe Step behind. The said realtor thought that a Safe Step tub might be the ideal thing for us. When the gentleman rep came out, he talked about their product and compared it with what we'd been considering. It was more expensive but it also looked like the best thing in terms of construction and ease of construction, as well as the value. We looked at it and it sounded like it was the best way to go. The installation then went well, and I was pleased. My wife enjoys using the tub, but I enjoy the shower part more. The only problem we've had with it is the remote control, which I think got left on and burned out. I called and we got a new one, and it's working fine.

I was recovering from cancer about a year ago and wanted a tub that wouldn't require my having to sit in a low tub (I didn't have the strength to pull myself out). I called Safe Step and they sent out a very nice man who sat with me for a long time and explained all the features. Of course, they wait until the very end of their "pitch" to bring up price. I told them I just wanted a "Plain Jane" sit down model; no "aromatherapy", or colored lights, extra Jacuzzi, etc. Even then, pared down, my cost was over $12,000. For a TUB. But I was so desperate, I went ahead and agreed to purchase one.
Several weeks before the scheduled installation, I received a call from them, saying they had to pull some kind of local permit - at a cost of nearly $3,000 more. That's when I said no. Enough was enough. I just couldn't justify paying over $15,000 for a TUB. So, I canceled my order. The good news is that I am better now, and can get in & out of a regular bathtub (for those times I need a soak). I really wish I could have gotten the walk-in tub but the prices are really jacked up, and they are ripping off the elderly and the sick. Buh Bye.
First let me say, it's amazing that you are better now! That's great to hear.
Let me also say, I'm sorry that the price was not aligned with what you had imagined. We currently have people who are brainstorming different ideas to make our products as enjoyable and easy for customers, as well as finding ways to make it less expensive but with the same, if not better, quality. I hope this helps change the way you see our business, as it is never our intention to take advantage of the elderly. I also hope you were able to find a safe bathing option, and I wish you the best moving forward!

One of the biggest reasons I bought from this company was the salesperson repeatedly saying, "Fills in 4 (minutes), drains in two." He probably mentioned it 10 times with no 'if' or 'unless' attached to that comment. My bath takes at least 12 minutes to fill so I end up sitting in the 'deep end' while it fills to be warm. A heated seat does not help if you're waiting that long for the bath to fill. I called customer service about a separate problem and told her about the fill time problem and the salesperson saying it would fill in 4 minutes. She said she wasn't there so she couldn't verify what he said. I asked her to look up the salesperson on my order and have him call me. No response!!! The salesperson said he only lives half hour away. He could easily come look at it. Disappointing, and frankly embarrassing when family members have been here. There is nothing quick about baths taken here.

Sales reps will not provide technical specifications on hybrid tub that will replace a standard sized bathtub. I need ensure the interior is adequate for 1 person with long legs and another who is oversized. I also wanted to know about the jets, power consumption and hot water tank size typically needed. There are no specs to download I was told and I could set up an in-home consultation. When I stated I do not want someone in my home unless I can first have some technical information they hung up on me or closed the chat box. Stay away - seems like snake oil high pressured sales pitch to rip off the elderly once they get inside your home.
Hi Kerstin, I'm so sorry that someone hung up on you while you were chatting, and that you weren't able to get the information you were looking for. The reason we cannot give price details or other specific details, is because everything determines on your bathroom (or the space provided). The total cost is determined by the cost of installation, and the installation details are figured out after inspection of the provided space. We do not purposely leave out those details, it is just that we genuinely cannot answer those questions because we don't want to give false information. It is completely understandable to not want someone in your home, and we wish you the best moving forward!

I started early October 2018 to get it fixed. I have had 6 cancelled appointments. It finally got fixed, but the repairman broke another part and after 1 bath, the first problem has returned. I am allegedly scheduled for 12/28/18. Not holding my breath. I got the company phone number from the young lady who sets up the appointments. They don't answer the phone. I used their "chat" feature and they "hung up" on me twice. Need I say more. The company has absolutely no integrity. Buy your tub from Costco, Lowe's, Home Depot, anyone else and have your trusted plumber/electrician install it.
Hi Millie, I am so sorry to hear of your experience with our business. Our service center occasionally gets full with calls, but it is very strange that you struggled getting in touch with someone for so long. I will make our service manager aware of this, as well as passing along your message so that someone can resolve any existing issues you may have. I could not find your record in our system, so is there another phone number or email address that might be used on your contract? Thank you for your feedback Millie, and I hope we can get this resolved as soon as possible.

I have had tub for 4 years. Have had difficulty with handle closing and opening properly. Called and was told to use a lime remover. I did this and handle is still not working properly. Now I can not open the door to get out. I am overweight, 65 and have arthritis and had to climb out of tub. If I had fallen I could have been seriously injured. I was verbally told when buying this expensive tub I would have a lifetime warranty for the tub. No mention of limited time for labor. Now being told I have to pay for labor if a service representative comes out. I also have problem with the electric circuit blowing and not resetting for days. This is not a product I would recommend for the elderly with no assistance. I wish I had not had this tub installed and is a very expensive product.
Hi Jennifer, I am so sorry to hear that you continue to have issues, and can't seem to get those issues fixed! It is never our intention to make a customer feel overwhelmed, and without help. We were told our hot water heater was adequate for the tub. Once we started using it, we discovered the hot water runs out before the tub is filled. Today, we found out it takes 100 gallons to fill the tub and most water heaters are 50 gallons. No wonder the hot water runs out! The biggest hot water heater is 75 gallons--still not large enough to heat the tub water. So DON'T BUY unless you enjoy lukewarm baths. Not happy about this at all.

Tub worked fine, but was not worth the aggravation. I had to buy a larger water heater, after salesman said my 40 gallon was sufficient, and more... Lawyer cost more than the $1,000 company offered me to go away. DO NOT BUY FROM SAFE STEP.

I was interested in the Hybrid Tub/Shower by this Co... and being 66, on Social Security, my finances are limited. I specifically wrote in my email NOT TO CALL ME. I specifically asked if they could email me back just a general parameter of the possible costs - lowest to highest. I specifically said if it was over $5,000, that it would be beyond my financial capabilities. I specifically put in a fake phone number, fake city, and a man's name (I'm a woman).
The only thing that I put on my email to them was: my email address. The next day (Sunday of all days) - My phone rang sixteen times in a row, without ever stopping. I don't answer 1-800 numbers unless I can see a "Caller ID". No one left a message. After my phone would not stop ringing for over 10 minutes with the same 1-800 number, I finally picked up the phone. It was "Safe Step Tubs!" What a surprise. I asked repeatedly how he got my phone # - he wouldn't answer. I asked repeatedly what the price parameters were - he said he had to send someone out. I said repeatedly I couldn't afford very much, so we should not waste their time or mine if it could be over the $5,000 maximum I could afford.
I finally asked him to remove my phone number from the list, which he said he would. Today (Monday) - I get a call for a "Vickie". Safe Step Tubs told me they had gotten an email from someone named Vickie at my phone number. In other words, they are somehow finding out our phone numbers through a "Back Door". My Phone Number is unlisted. The BBB in N.Y. gives this company an "F" rating. The Supervisor I called today told me they have a "AAA" rating by the BBB. Obviously, this company has business practices too many companies are allowed - by our Protection Consumer Agencies - to play a "High Pressure" game to get: (1) A Stranger into my home; (2) Gaining our Personal and Private Information through whatever means they want and abusing it; (3) A refusal to value Consumers and their time; and (4) Downright lying about all of it.
If our Consumer Protection Agencies can't protect us from companies like this - where strangers come into my home - what is the point of having the "Protection Agencies"? Enough is Enough. When are you going to really start trying to protect us? Help us. And you wonder why Mental Illness is such a huge problem in this country. This affects our stress levels and our very sanity by allowing these lying companies and their unfair business practices.
Then we explode and everyone says "Why?" What is wrong with that person? Keep allowing these companies to exploit us, and the anger in this country will just get worse and worse. P.S. I finally did manage to find the parameters for "Hybrid" tubs ("Shower/Tub" combos). $5,000 is the lowest price for this company. Would it have been so hard for them to tell me that???
Sincerely, R Duffer.

I would never install a Safe Step walk-in tub!!! We are the third owners of the tub which was installed in 2011. Problem is that the lifetime warranty applies to the original owner only and once out of warranty the company is not interested in servicing your tub. The tub is prone to leaking as the seal will deteriorate and the company is not interested in even replacing the seal. We offered to pay for the repairs but were met with "We don't know anyone that would be interested or have the knowledge to repair it". Replacing the whole door was another option but there was no attempt to help us with this. The serviceman simply said it's very expensive to do this. Absolutely horrible customer service!!!

No-no Safe Step!!! Safe Step has rushed us to purchase then to install. Since then they have not kept their promises for service that needs to be done. Also the tub is difficult for us because we are oversized and we weren’t informed about that.
This tub was purchased and installed January 2017. We have had service calls since then, replacing light bulb and fixing a sound in the door. Not once, has anything been said about tub being difficult for them because of their size. Last time we were out there, in March 2018, it was for a sound coming from door. This tub has been used since being installed and no complaints over not being able to use tub.

The sales rep of Safe Step was very friendly. My bathroom is small and he explained everything to me and made sure I understood all of it. My house is on a slab, so that makes everything difficult. It was a little harder because you can't go underneath to look at anything because there's no basement. The installers had to change the water pipes from one side to the other. But they didn't have any trouble doing that or getting everything in and setting it all up. They were prompt, did a good job, and got it all done in one day. I feel a little better since having the tub. I have rheumatoid arthritis, and I can sit down and soak and it's been nice being able to do that. All I could do before was take a shower and I can't stand up for very long at a time. And the little microbubbles is quite beneficial.

The walk-in tub companies were all pretty much the same but Safe Step had a better cost. We contacted them through Lowe's and they came to our home. They really explained everything about the tub, what it would do and what we could expect from the people installing it. It was all really good. We were very prepared when the installers came and we knew what to expect as far as the tub. The installers were great folks and nice guys too. It also took them a lot less time than we expected. It was all taken care of in one day and it was very quick and easy. My mother-in-law, Felice loves the tub. She really enjoy the bubbles, the little micro milk bath thing, and the jets in the back. And the biggest thing is the fact that she can get in and out without falling. She enjoys a bath, not a shower, so it’s nice that she can do that, get in and out. It keeps her independent.

The competitor was $3,000 to $4,000 higher than Safe Step so we picked the latter. The Safe Step people were great too. They tore out the old section that they needed to, put the tub in and finished it all very nicely. They told me ahead of time that I was gonna have some concrete showing because my old rug went to where the old shower section was and I told them it was no problem. I've even already had a new rug put in. We've had the walk-in tub for a couple of months now and we're pleased with it. We got all the features and our favorite are the air bubbles, the heated seats, the backrest and the headrest. They had also explained to me that when you open the door, sometimes it gets dirty down there and you need to clean it or it leaks. That happened once but I cleaned it and it doesn’t leak anymore so that's good.

The Safe Step sales rep was good. We like that the tub was made in America too. However, I felt that my mom was not gonna get the walk-in tub, but the rep called the company and asked if there were any people who had ordered something and couldn’t finish it. There was a lady who gave a downpayment for the tub but then she passed away. He did that for my mom and then she bought it.
The installation team was amazing as well. They were down-to-earth people and treated us with respect. They made sure that they cleaned up all their mess and the house looked like it did when they were left as they arrived. We had a snowstorm the night before and they were running in and out all day but they did not mess up the carpet. Our favorite feature of the tub is the jets on my mom's feet. My mom couldn’t feel her feet before, but now, she can. The Safe Step walk-in tub is amazing. I wish that every elderly person can afford it since it helps so much with neuropathy.

About five years ago, Pat Boone advertised Safe Step Walk-in Tubs on TV and my mother wanted one. So I purchased it for her and she enjoyed it. When we had an issue, they resolved it as soon as possible and she never had any other problems with the tub. I trusted the company and I decided to buy from them again recently. The sales rep was a very polite guy and he presented himself very well. He was also very funny and totally into the whole safe tub experience. I enjoyed his presentation and I liked him as a representative.
When the tub was put in, their installation team was okay. But they had to take down the crown molding of the entrance way to the bathtub and when they put it back, it was kind of distorted and it doesn’t look as nice at it did before. They patched it up the best they could but I can still see the imperfection in the crown molding. Other than that, I like the features of the tub all together, especially the massager and the color changes of the water. I also feel safer getting in and out of the tub and the seat. For anyone who has a mobility issue, such as myself, it would be a great experience to have a Safe Step walk-in tub if they could afford to get one. It is safe and they can be assured that there will be no issues with the tub. And if there are issues, Safe Step will resolve them with no problems at all. They're excellent.

Because I think they figured out, it'll be a turn off if you're gonna pay 13 to 16 thousand for a tub. It's like buying a car and I think they wanna sell the good points of it and show the value of it before they tell you the price.
But I called the company and they gave me a range. I'm not unhappy that I got it. The walk-in tub could be very therapeutic. I'm putting the aroma therapy directly in the water, but it doesn't help when you have that and you can't use it. I suggested last time that they contact their supplier or their engineering department and make the change. I enjoy the tub very much but they need to redesign the closing tabs on that so it doesn't break.

And then he showed us some other ads of other manufactured tubs. His presentation was good and he sold me the tub. The installation team did a good job however, when I shut the cold water off on my bathroom sink, I heard the pipe rattle a bit. And that was because they took out the hard copper that was there and put in that PEX pipe. And so, I got a bit of water hammer but it’s not bad. Other than that, the installation looks good. I liked the micro soft bubble feature of the tub and the jets in the back.
However, I have my hot water heater right next to my bathroom and it's in my garage. I thought it would be efficient but the water comes out cold when I first turn it on. It takes a long time for my hot water to get to the tub but that's not the tub's fault and that's just the plumbing in my house. But since it doesn’t turn out hot when I first turn it on to hot, I had turned the water on and forgot to latch the door. I flooded my bathroom and it seeped into my bedroom carpet. The Safe Step rep I had was new, but he knew exactly what he was getting at and what he was putting out. He did a good job. I didn't have a problem during the installation of the unit but I only knew that we couldn't get the shower handle up at two feet after the whole thing was done. I tried to take a shower, but that didn’t do me any good 'cause it's just about two feet there and it won't go anywhere but that corner. A young man came down here to check it out and he showed me that it was getting hung up around one of the posts underneath it. He then pulled it all the way inside and it came up six feet or more.
I asked him if he could come up with a method and put the thing up on the back wall and let it stay up there instead of getting tangled up every time we try to pull it out and he did. He has the part in his truck and he used it. It wasn’t easy and he was in and out for about two hours putting that thing on the wall but he did it wonderfully. Now it's perfect. Safe Step is a very good choice for the elderly. And I felt safer. I have a huge shower and I can fall in there because I have a balance problem. If I shut my eyes, I fall over. So I have to feel along the wall and it was very dangerous. One day, I looked up for walk-in tubs on firstSTREET and I thought Safe Step had the most to offer. I liked the way it was written up. Moreover, the sales representative was great. He was the selling point. He was an older gentleman, and I am older so that helped. And he wasn't pushy. There was no pressure sales so I enjoyed it.
The guys who came to install the walk-in tub were fantastic. They were very conscious of everything. I like the way they covered up our floors and made sure nothing was disturbed. And the installation was very short. Four guys came in and then there was a guy in charge. He also helped hooking up the water. However, when I used it the first time, it got so hot. The control is set for 120 degrees. And you can go above that or below. But when I went below to find some cold water, there wasn't any. I turned it off and got out of there really fast. I then called Safe Step and they sent out someone to look at it. He was very pleasant too so I enjoyed him. He found out that the hot was cold and cold was hot. So he went downstairs and reversed the pipes. Since then, everything works fine.
So far, I try not to use the walk-in tub every day. I don't know if it's me or the tub, but it says that the microcellular emitters would soften the skin. I don't have to use anything like shower gels. But I was disappointed because I was fine when I came out of the water. In fact, I felt moisturized. But the next morning, it left me dry. It was not as advertised and it was disheartening. But otherwise, I love the walk-in tub. The fact that you don't have to worry about falling when you're getting in, you sit down and you have the massage. Although I would like to see it larger because I'm tall and thin and I feel a little tight when I'm sitting in there. Still, I have recommended Safe Step and everybody in the family is asking how I like it. I told them they need to get one.

Someone called the house and advertised Safe Step Walk-in Tubs. We set up an appointment and we liked all the features of the tub. The sales rep explained himself well and he let us know what would be the benefits of getting it. He was telling us that it was good for high blood pressure which my husband and I both have. He also let us know that we had a lifetime warranty which is good and a nice thing to have. Since we are now seniors, we don’t like to continuously go out to buy things and pay to have things repaired. We also liked the safety features of the tub and when we compared it to others that are in the area before we made a decision, we found that to be the best for us. So, we determined to get the Safe Step.
The installation went great and the installers did a good job. They came in, did what they were supposed to do, and put back everything that they removed to get the tub in. And if there were any concerns that we had, a scratch or this or that, they fixed that. So far, I like the sauna of the walk-in tub. Sitting on it is also easier now that we're getting old. Getting in and out of the tub is a great thing, too, because with our old bathtub, my husband and I had to purchase one of those tubes to put on the side to help pull ourselves up when we were coming out of it. So, the Safe Step is safer for old adults and even to young people. I was telling my nieces about it because you can still fit and shower or you can stand and shower on it.

Safe Step's rep was nice and the one who was in charge of the installation did an excellent job of replacing the wood on the floor. In the two weeks that the Safe Step walk-in tub has been installed, I’ve used it once and I like the bidet feature the most. Changing the lights was unnecessary but it was good. It is a lot of water and I had to change my water heater to have more heat.

It's a lot easier to get into the Safe Step tub and get the door closed compared to others. The rep from Safe Step was a very nice guy and explained stuff pretty good. And what he didn’t, the installer finished when it was installed. The tub was a little on a pricey side but it’s all good and since having it, I’m not quite so sore.

I did a bunch of internet searches to check on walk-in tubs and Safe Step struck me as a better company. They have a much better warranty on everything. The price is up there, but you’re gonna get what you pay for. The sales representative was very good and he was with us the whole way. I have his cell phone number and we were able to call him. We had something else we wanted to add and we had already done everything, but he went ahead and did it and didn’t charge us for it. The installation was quick. I thought it was gonna take a long time, but it only took them a day to get it done. I’ve had the walk-in tub for about two months now and my husband loves it for his legs because he’s disabled. The bubbles that help the circulation have really helped his legs. He has been more able to get around a little easier since using the Safe Step.

I've had a Safe Step walk-in tub for two months now. Before I bought the tub it was hard for me to get in and out of my old one. Safe Steps' tub looked a lot more comfortable to get in and out of. It has a low step in. Also, I have poor circulation in my legs and I believe that the tubs helped my condition a little bit more than what it was. The massage jets looked appealing on TV and it looked 10 times more appealing when it was in my home. I am enjoying it very much. The jets, the sit down heated seat, the aromatherapy and the lights were the features that I like the most. The sales rep was outstanding and the installation was excellent. Safe Step is worth the investment. I hope others will have the same results that I did.

We got our Safe Step Walk-in Tub on the 28th of March. Our interaction with their salesman, Phillip went very well. However, I have hardly used it. We didn’t have it very long and the first time I ever used the tub was a couple of days after we got it. By the time I got up to my knees with water, it was cold so we will have to get a bigger hot water heater which we haven’t had time to. I’ve also been in the hospital about three weeks. I’ve had a major surgery and I won’t be able to get in and soak in the tub. I’m at home recuperating now. The tub is upstairs but I wouldn’t be allowed to get in it anyway because I can’t have a soaking with my incisions. Maybe I’ll start using it a little bit later but I think we moved too fast on that situation.

There was no bar and I could not get in and out of the old bathtub. I needed something that I could get in and out of. We were watching the television and saw the Safe Step, which was the one we decided on. Their rep was very professional and he seemed to try every way in the world to sell to us. I like all of the Safe Step Walk-in Tub's features. I have a skin disorder and I have used the micro on the dial. I’m supposed to use it for 20 minutes, then turn on the jets and move them around from place to place on my body. It seems to have helped my skin quite a bit.
The tub is very good and everything about it works well. However, you have to not run your water too hot because you’ll run your hot water tank down. You’d have to adjust to that and learn how to not run it wide open on the jets, otherwise, you’ll spill water all over the place. Sometimes I just use it for a bath. I can use soap and I would lounge around the jets. And sometimes I would take a shower. It’s handy and easy. I recommend Safe Step Walk-In Tubs.

I was checking up on walk-in tubs and the one from Safe Step was the best, so I got one. My rep and the guys who installed the unit were fantastic. I've had the tub for a month and a half now and the whole thing has been absolutely great. Everything works wonderfully on it. However, I only use it once a week because I don’t want my electric bill to jump. But I use the shower part and it's great. Also, my granddaughter was in there looking at it and she turned the knob down from the regular 110 temperature and I don’t know how to turn it back up.

Safe Step Walk-in Tubs have a middle of the road cost, cheaper than some and about the same price as others but they had better features. Mostly, the sales rep was good except he screwed me up. The whole thing went well but I questioned about the drain because the old tub hadn’t been used in at least two or three years. I was worried about the drain being clogged. I talked to him about calling the snake people in and having them snake out the drain while the old tub was out and before they put the new tub in.
I told him that some outfits snake it. He said that he'd check and get back to me. The next day he told me that they snake out about 10 to 12 feet. That was all I needed because that gets me down to the basement where I had just got some plumbing work done so I knew it was clean from thereon. When the guys showed up to install, they said that they don’t snake anything. They also said that they don’t even change the P-trap unless the P-trap already in the tub is bad. Needless to say, they used their fish tape that they used to fish wires through the walls and ran it down as far as they could but that little fish tape didn’t do much of anything. Then, they went ahead and put the tub together so it shouldn't be a problem. They then filled it up with water and it didn’t drain.
I ended up having to call the plumbing people out. I talked to them and they said they'd talk to their boss. They were going to make the salesman reimburse me for having to have a guy come out to snake it because I could have done it ahead of time and saved a whole lot of time and trouble. By the time I got the drain guy out to snake it, the tub was partly installed. He went through the tub, the way he does on normal tubs, using a little snake and it couldn't clean out the clog.
They had to pull the tub away from the wall again so they could get to the line, then he snaked that but because of all the time involved, instead of being a regular charge, they charged me for an extra hour, which was 120 bucks and I ended up spending 359 bucks to get it snaked. And the guy couldn't get it done because the clog was too bad. I ended up having to get a plumber to replace that whole line. It was just a big nightmare. Then the installers came back and finished up the install.
They cocked it, put the back thing on it, and did all the rest of it. They were really nice but they had gotten a little upset when I squawked about it being snaked. And understandably so I was also upset but we had gotten it calmed and settled down. All we could do was what we could do. It's a good product. But dealing with the salesman not telling me what needed to be told turned me off. The installers were good guys and did a good job. I'm pleased with them. However, I'm not pleased with the communication between the salesman and the installers. Apparently, he didn’t even talk to them like he told me he was going to do. I still have other issues with the tub that I'm working on. I have a drain problem with my basement drain and the Safe Step drains too fast and it comes up in the basement. And my water heater is too small but I was told that I might have trouble with the hot water so that's no problem. I'm working on that too.

We had already screened two companies and found that the price was too expensive. The ad that I read described the local dealer of Safe Step Walk-In Tubs as something that might have used the word “warehouse” or “depot” that led me to believe that it sounded like it could be less expensive than the others. But we were already familiar with the system in general and the ad let me know that Safe Step had all of the features we were looking at, perhaps even more. The sales representative was excellent and very thorough and I found him to be low-key. We told him upfront that we had seen two other competitors and the price was an important factor to us. The tub is a cost factor, so it’s not gonna be something for everybody. I talked to our orthopedist about that and he said that if we got the disposable income, hydrotherapy is an excellent choice.
The installation was excellent. We had a crew of two and they came at about 8:00 in the morning. They did a very good job. The finished product looks great. They blended it in beautifully with existing tile and flooring and ran a vacuum almost continuously while they were sawing, which impressed me, to keep the dust down. There was virtually no contamination of dust anywhere else in the house.
My wife uses the tub more than I do and that was our purpose because she’s somewhat disabled. I have used it a couple of times and we both like the water jets that massage, as well as the very fine bubbles that clean. We have found that that’s a great system and it really does what it’s advertised to do. Almost everybody who sees this says they want one too. It is a big investment, but the primary point the salesperson made was what we’re doing is buying more time to be able to be in our home because of the therapeutic value. We still have a shower with a bench, but that was difficult for my wife to use and did not accomplish anything close to the cleaning that the Safe Step does. However, we’ve noticed, and I’ve actually heard this from someone else too, that the seat seems to heat only on one side.
We also don’t feel that adding an essential oil to the area where we’re supposed to add it really gets it into the water because we have a friend who sells the current kind of essential oils that people are using and she suggested putting it directly in the water. And when we do that with her essential oils, which may be more concentrated, we only need about three drops. I have put as many as 20 into the receptacle that came with the tub and I still don’t get the effect.

I read about Safe Step on the AARP. Their sales rep was very good and I was satisfied with the people who installed the tub. The installers cleaned up though it was very difficult for them to get the wiring in. It was late at night, around 8:30, when they finished up and when they went through it to see if everything was working, I was not in the bathroom. It's a small bathroom and I'm large so I couldn't see everything. Later, when I tried calling them up to ask for help on how to use the tub, it was very difficult to call.
So far, I've only used the tub once and that was the time when the sales rep came and got me in it. We have bars in the bathroom but it is a tight one to get into and I’m about six feet weighing 270. It would have been nice if the bathroom was larger. My wife is smaller than me but it also takes everything for her to go in the tub. I had it put in when she was in a rehab and I got it mainly for her. She was very happy to have Safe Step and it would be wonderful if she could use it regularly. We hope she'd have the type of health to use it and if not, getting it would be just a very expensive mistake on my part. I'm 84 and she's 83. With our age, we need Safe Step to send out a professional to help us get in the tub and show us its complete operation.

My significant other came up with the tub. She uses it regularly but I haven't used it. I should have been told that I needed a bigger hot water tank. Safe Step's rep went and looked at the hot water tank, and he came back and said it's okay. It's a 40-gallon tank and it's 12 years old. I'm stuck with it. Also, the tub is overpriced. If I had my head on straight, I would have canceled the order. I wouldn't recommend it to anybody.
We are happy to hear that your significant other does uses the tub regularly. We are unhappy to hear that you are not happy with it. One thing we cannot control is if the hot water heater is sufficient or not. On our contracts, we have several places that is acknowledged that a customer may need to upgrade their hot water heater and on your contract, your Safety Specialist did give you an additional hot water tank discount, since he was not completely sure. I hope that in the future, you will start to enjoy your Safe Step Walk In tub and take advantage of some of its features.

The Safe Step Walk-In Tubs salesman came out and we did visits. The salesman was not the best, but I wanted the product. I didn’t even need the salesman. I could’ve just called Safe Step because I wanted them to put it in. It was a lot of money but I could afford it. The installers were very nice people, but they couldn’t bring that sized tub through the bathroom door, so they said that they would just cut out the wall. I said, “You’re gonna do what?” And the three very nice guys were laughing. They literally took my wall away, put it in, and then they said they would take care of it. They were laughing at my face and that was because they were professionals. They knew what they were gonna do and they put the wall back. I have to paint it and I understood that.
However, the next day, I realized something that I hadn’t even thought about. My entire living room was covered in white plaster dust from using a mini electrical saw. The thing that came out was plaster dust and it settled all around my apartment. I couldn’t breathe the second day because I was choking and I didn’t know why until I saw the surface of something. I have been coughing for weeks and I had to bring in a service with masks to do a professional cleaning job and they had to move everything.
What the installers should have done was have with them a makeshift plastic curtain, put it around and then went to work. They should have worked on one side so it doesn’t go further than the floor, and swept up or vacuumed up. There was no stopping mechanism, so as they worked, they shot out lots of plaster dust. For me, it was exciting and it was something new that I was gonna have a walk-in tub, but it would’ve been so easy to not have that be the case.
I’m a big guy and it’s almost uncomfortable, but I wanted to buy it. And when I finally get to where I wanna be, it will make a huge difference. But right now, I squeeze myself in it to sit down and that’s not supposed to be that way, so I can’t really enjoy it if I’m just stuck sitting down. The service called me once and asked me how I like it. I told them I haven't used it and I haven't turned it on. I didn’t even remember how to. So, I finally used it one time only. I was in and out. I had to see, as I pull up the water hose, how to attach it to the thing on the wall so it becomes like a shower. I have things that I have to learn -- to keep the water in there and the non-shower, like the tub, to put the closure thing and just drop it on the hole.
I really have no idea how anything in there works. And unfortunately, I’m a partial one-leg amputee because I’m diabetic, so I have to hop. And that’s easy because I can fall back to myself. I would have to go through 25 steps before I get in. I have a chair in there and I lean on it, put my knee up, and turn around. Then I have to do the same thing getting out, so, for me, it is a real ordeal. I used to go in before. I have a long nice chair and I put two legs in the bathtub, and the other two outside. I slid over and I put the leg in the shower, and nothing was wrong with it. This product sounded very relaxing, and it’s supposed to be. But, for me, it’s a hassle. It’s so tight on both sides when I sit down and I don’t enjoy it. Maybe I will use it or not. And maybe that’s all that will ever be, just a brand-new, not-used walk-in tub to somebody. But the product looks good and it’s probably something that I’ll revalue if I ever decide to sell my condo.

I'm 81 years old and I have arthritis. I like a good soaker and I have this big, beautiful, blue tub. Getting in the tub was all right but getting out of it was dangerous. Most of the time, I live alone and consequently, I did not use that tub. So that has to be removed. The sales rep measured the area and he said it was an ideal spot to put the Safe Step Walk-in Tub and everything fit right in line. The installers took that out and they did it all in one day. And although it took forever to get it out here, the installers have done a good job. My tub runs, has sliding glass doors to it, and is a really nice one with its mirror. However, I’m not satisfied at all with it because it is too little. What I had before had this other part built on and we put the tub in before they closed it up and it was a whole complete tub together.
At first, I tried to get in the tub and I could hardly get in. It's not even long enough to stretch your legs at where you can even shave your legs. You gotta stand up and put in your feet in to straighten. I can’t also get relaxed in it because it’s so narrow. I’m almost 75 years old and I wanted comfort. That’s what I thought I was going to get but I’m not getting it. I can hardly get the door shut without moving my legs and squeezing too. I also understood it was going to have a bunch of jets in it but it ain’t got the 12 jets. It’s got two lights as well. It shouldn't be like that for almost $15,000 as that’s a lot of money for not getting the service. Safe Step could have done much more. They could have taken the back piece off as far as it goes and the tub could have been even longer.

All that time, they were joking with each other. They looked at things and figured out how to change. The hot tub is a hoot to use at first. I had two back surgeries. I saw Safe Step's ad on my cell phone and I thought the tub would be good for me. I had a regular tub and shower, and I had one of those shower chairs and it works alright. I had almost like a hot tub. However, I'm not happy with my Safe Step tub. The new tub is too small for me although I’m not a very large person. I’m 5’7” and 140 pounds but it’s difficult for me to move around in there and I can’t use the thing where you hook it onto the wall and stand under it because if I do that, the water runs off the side of the tub onto the floor. Also, I have a tear in the rotator cuff of my right shoulder, so it’s hard for me to reach up. And with the tub being on a hose, moving it around is stiff. It’s very difficult for me to shower in there and if I want to sit and get the water up to my chest or close to my neck, I’ve gotta scrunch down in there where I got my knees under my chin. The new tub isn’t serving the purpose for me.
I was satisfied with the salespeople but I don’t think they understood what my needs were and I didn’t really understand what they were either. The installation team was excellent and they were in and out in eight hours. They did an excellent job and I was very satisfied with their work. One thing I really like with the tub is the heated seat. But it doesn’t make up for the other problems I have with it. I can’t really sit in there and stretch and relax and get the full therapeutic value of the jets. I’m seriously thinking about having the Safe Step walk-in tub taken out and the regular tub put back in. All in all, the Safe Step walk-in tub is not what I need or want, yet I can’t give it back. I called Safe Step and I told them this and the guy told me to leave a message on his answering machine, and I did that. That was probably two weeks ago and I haven’t heard back from him since. The after sales doesn’t seem to be there.

We saw Safe Step Walk-In Tubs in a magazine about four or five years ago and called them. A gentleman came out and it was the same guy that sold it to us this time. He was very knowledgeable. All of his materials, in comparison to other tubs, were better this time around. The only reason we didn’t do it the first time was we didn’t have $12000 to spend. We also had Kohler, one other company, and American Standard come out. I did a lot of research and American Standard’s lowest price was $18000 plus. They gave a free toilet that was computerized and had a bidet but I told my wife that for the cost of their tub, that toilet is not free. We’re paying for it. And Kohler didn’t have the quality. The thing I liked best out of all four tubs we looked at was Safe Step is American-made and assembled here, where all the others were made outside and assembled here in the states.
We put money down and paid online for Safe Step. The installers were supposed to be here at 8:00 but they got here at 7:30 in the morning. There were four of them. The guy that headed the crew had three other crews and I watched them and they were very professional. Then, by 1:30, they were out of here. So far, my wife really enjoys the tub and she loves the light. Ladies like sitting in the tub and she really enjoys the jet. The one she uses the most is the microbubble and she really likes it. The only thing is when we use the aromatherapy, we put all the drops in, but we don't smell anything.
When the presentations came, all three or four people looked at the water tank. I’m surprised that when the guys thought we had a 50-gallon tank, they didn’t say anything and only one said that I’m gonna need a bigger tank. We didn’t know that for the size of the tub that we got, we needed an 80-gallon or more water tank. There’s not enough hot water for the possibility of two or three showers and we have to schedule my wife's bath later in the day. And I have to watch doing dishes or laundry and I have to plan everything so that when she takes a bath, she has enough hot water. We’ll get a bigger tank later on when this one goes out.
I would highly recommend the tub and cleaning is really easy. With American Standard and Kohler, I had to clean the jets and everything once a week, but with Safe Step, it’s once a month. And it’s with a spoonful of dish soap and Clorox. The salesman said that in their home, they use scrubbing bubbles and when they’re done, they just spray it on and rinse it off.

And by the time they left, the tub was in, ready to use, and everything was back where it was supposed to be. They did a wonderful job. I like the heated seat and the water jets. I used to dread taking a bath because it was so hard for me to get in and out of the bathtub. I would just take a 15-minute bath. Just get in, get out fast as I could. Now, I go in the bathroom and I'm in there for an hour. I love the tub and would recommend it to anybody.

I called their number and when they told me that they were made in the United States, that sold me. The Safe Step representatives were all great, particularly the guy who sold it to me. And the two guys who installed were super neat fellows and nice. They came and measured and then they installed in one day. With the tub, I love the back massage and to the legs. I also love the micro bubble which is fantastic. Since I've started using the tub, I noticed that my skin is better and the one leg that I had hurt in a fall is beginning to come around now with the massage.

At first, we said that we were going to consider something else, but Safe Step's rep was very pushy. We just wanted him out of here and we finally signed. Safe Step did what they said they were gonna do, except the installation crew left a hole in one tile where the previous shower in the wall was. They said they'd look for a tile, but I haven’t heard back from them. They also broke a six-inch tile around the window. I'm still learning the tub but one of the worst things about the tub is it takes so much water, but I knew that upfront. I wouldn’t recommend Safe Step Walk-In Tubs.

I got a thing in the mail about $1,500 off from Safe Step, and I’d been wanting a walk-in tub because my leg wasn’t getting right into the bathtub. I had a bone broken in one leg and my ankle's broken too. The sales rep talked and talked, took his time and explained what to do. He was a good salesman and I liked him. I had the tub installed last month and I like everything about it. It didn’t take the installers a day to install it. They cleaned up too. Safe Step has some good people working with them.

I happen to see Safe Step Walk-in Tubs' advertisement on TV so I called them. Their sales rep seemed to have done well. He made a good presentation and we were informed on his product. We agreed on the price and the main thing was the guarantee on it. It was a little expensive but I'm hoping it's gonna be money well spent. The installation team were real nice people and our interactions were very good. Everything with the walk-in tub is good and I'm enjoying all of its features. Since the installation, I feel that my legs are a little more relaxed.

Safe Step isn't installing their tubs very nicely with the outside framing. They put inexpensive plastic all around my tub to finish it and it doesn’t look finished nicely for a $13,000 tub. I told the installers where to put the tub in my bathroom as I wanted it more even with my shower and it would sit back about eight inches from the edge of my rug where my original tub was. Then I had them leave open the end where they could have covered it with plastic. I happened to have some old tile that the builder left in my house in 2005 and I have just enough to put tile around the front of my tub.
I also had Safe Step's installers put the concrete board that you put under tile around the edge of my tub. Then, I’m having a Corian dealer make the top edge that goes around it to match some other shelving around my shower. So, it would look like the tub is sitting on tile instead of sitting on an unfinished rug. It would cost me extra to do it, but on a $13,000 tub, what’s a $1,000 more if it makes it look better and fit into the room better. It would be nice though if Safe Step has tile people that could do this without me having to hire a separate tile person. Then when this is finished, I'm going to send my salesperson Mike and the installers a finished picture of it to show them how it looked better with the bathroom if you tile it to make it look like the rest of the bathroom.
The installers were fine, though. They had to put the installation off for a week since it snowed one day and they couldn't install it when they originally planned to. But we got it done. They also did exactly what I asked them to do. I just did not want plastic board put around it. The tub itself works very well. The only problem I have is that my hot water tank is not big enough to totally fill it. I had asked Mike about that but he kind of didn’t say anything. He did admit though that it should have two 50-gallon hot water tanks and I only have one.
Still, I would recommend this tub to friends who have bad knees like I do. I like hot baths and using the tub has helped the circulation in my bad knee. I just had stem cell shots put in my knees and I couldn't take any anti-inflammatories so my knees stay swollen and all you can do for it is to put heat. This tub is very easy to get into as well. You have a lot to hold on to so you don’t have to put up a lot of grab bars like you do in a regular shower or tub and that’s important as we get older and more feeble.

He sat down and took his time and explained everything in detail. The installation process went really smooth, too. The guys knew what they were doing and cleaned up after themselves. They filled up the tub, made sure everything worked, and went over everything with me. Now, it's easier for my mom to get in and out of the tub. It's also easier for me to use and it does not hurt my back as I don’t have to strain it so much.

The installation team did a nice job and they cleaned up everything. I get in the tub, sit down and then turn the jets on. The pain I feel is not as bad unless I get around a lot in the day, but then I go in the tub and get out and then I feel a lot better. I love it.

They did a really good job on my bathroom. They explained everything to me and said to call them if I ever had any problems. The only problem I have is they haven’t sent me an operator’s manual and I'm having trouble with my lights which don’t stay on. I called the two installation guys and they said they passed the word to somebody. That was over a month ago and I haven’t heard from them since. But the installation went really well. They cleaned up and the tub looked good. I’m disabled and I wasn’t able to bathe before. I had to shower all the time and now I can bathe. Diane, a friend that I was taking care of, got out of the hospital and she couldn’t take a bath or a shower without a walk-in bathtub, so it was the necessity of it that made us decide on Safe Step. We were in a hurry to get one and our salesperson was really good on explaining about it. Dealing with their installation team was excellent but when they installed the tub, they filled the molding at the bottom with caulk and I wish so bad they would have cut it more precisely so it wouldn’t need so much fill in. I’m still waiting for them to come out to fix them but other than that, the hydrotherapy of the bathtub is just wonderful. It has improved my friend greatly and as for me, I take full advantage of it when taking a shower.

When we inquired with Safe Step Walk-in Tubs, I told the person we talked to on the phone that we weren’t interested because we wouldn't be able to afford it. But I said during the conversation that if they want to send their rep out, we will talk about it, but I also said that we won't probably be going anywhere. The rep got here and we talked a little bit and then when he was about to leave, he said about showing us the tub's features. So I told him to show us and I was impressed with the tub, the features and what it might mean to us personally. While the price was four times more than what I was expecting to pay, but we went ahead and bought it anyway.
However, when I bought the tub, the salesperson said we were getting the new one and it included a headrest. But when we got the tub, we did not get a headrest and we had to have it come in. Furthermore, the headrest I received has a bracket with five little cups on it. And it’s about four inches wide and the ledge on the tub is more than an inch and a quarter wide so it doesn’t work. Also, the pictures I see of the new tub which I thought we were getting was the 2018 version. In the pictures, the headrest is mounted on some chrome tubes and the ledge is quite wide.
Apparently, we didn’t get the tub that I was told we were going to get and I'm wondering why we didn’t get it. Other than that, the tub uses an awful lot of water. And our water heater wasn't able to fill the tub completely with hot water. It's 40 gallons and if we want more hot water, we’re going to have to put in a bigger storage tank. Overall, while we'd recommended Safe Step Walk-in Tubs to our friends, it’s way, way overpriced. I had to think many different times about spending that amount of money.

I have used the tub several times but I have a minor problem. The space where they put the bathtub was six to eight inches short so they built this little thing so that it can fit in. It looks really nice but we have the shower feature where you could put the hose up and the hose does not go over that. The tub does take a lengthy time to fill and my tub takes on average 15 minutes but only four minutes to drain. The jets work fine and aid me with my arthritis issues. The other nice feature is that you can use a variety of aromatherapy packages. On the negative side I recently had an issue with the motor inside the tub which turned out to be defective and I wound up paying close to $200.00 for service. Problem is way tub drains - very slowly if at all. FIRST no one told installer about adjusting screw on bottom of tub drain stopper which can be adjusted to lift stopper much higher than left with us after final inspection - causes drain to be much slower if not adjusted to maximum stopper height when lever at tub top rotated. SECOND is that drain activation lever at top inside tub is mechanically defective such that when chrome outside lever is secured to the operating shaft in the tub thru flange for the drain lever the set screw on the lever (which seats into a hole in thru shaft) is out of sync and pulls lever into tub body so tight one can not turn lever. If left a little loose it just fails to operate (such that my wife who really needs tub functions almost drowned trying to empty when it was filled with her in it). (Need a diver's aqua lung rig to get down under water and pry up drain stopper.) So very, very poor product engineering.
Trying to fix via Contractor and local distributor (Fresno Kitchen Bath Plus) has been a real disappointing process. Contractor pushes warranty onto distributor and distributor pushes warranty onto manufacture. Thus a lot of useless time has been expended and investment in tub features is zero return so far. Plus I do not think Contractor was familiar with installing as no access door left to service water valve and such on tub front (the small tubs access door in tub in front side will not cure the problem, all it does is give you a good visual of what is there but [useless] for M&O. Anyway problem will eventually get solved (I hope) but seeing a very expensive and medically needed feature useless every day is not making matters better.
I suggest you not install this product - find a Contractor that knows what they are doing as M&O will be needed sooner than later (access doors) and find a supplier that is responsive time wise after they are paid in full, and look for a better and SAFE Engineered drainage system that is foolproof as one cannot open door when full of water. Will reserve opinion on how it actually works and functions when they finally get it fully and SAFELY operable.

The shower curtain they furnish is way too long to be useful. I had to pay to have it shortened. 4. It’s too easy to flip the handle up and open the door by accident and flood your bathroom. For these reasons I deducted two stars. The actual water and air jets work well and do their job. Otherwise a nice design and functional. Overall a mostly satisfactory buy.

You can bet I'll hold Safe Step responsible when she injures herself. Their high pressure salesmen lied to my father about it filling in a reasonable amount of time. It takes 20 mins!! Too long. My Mom is nearly hypothermic in 20 mins sitting there naked waiting for a damned tub to fill. Then draining takes just as long. Luckily it is so slow she's only bathing and climbing up and down the ladder once a week now. I just called them as a new potential customer to ask for price info, but they won't give price info over the phone. Only a high pressure salesman is allowed to talk about that in person with the elderly person at the home. Stay away from these crooks. They prey upon elderly and ought to be arrested. Shame on you all involved in this scam company.
This tub was purchased in 2012 from a Safe Step Walk In Tub dealer and the customer does not own this home any longer, we found this out when we called the daughter this morning to try to address her complaints and issues. Three things that we cannot control is hot water pressure, drain time or how long it takes to fill up tub. Safe Step connects to an existing fixture, do not modify existing plumbing so water pressure would not be affected by our tub. If we had been notified years ago, we would have talked with customer about consulting with a plumber and kept mom from climbing on/off ladder - even if we needed to provide them with a walk-in shower. Safe Step Walk In Tub Co promotes safety for their elderly customers and we constantly update our products with the safety of our customers in mind.

I also was charged more for things that were never done like removing the toilet and widening the door. They said I would get a credit back on those things and I never did. I gave up on trying to get the credit back. I would recommend people check out at least three tub companies before purchasing. I only checked one and regret it. The tub is wonderful but is it worth 30K... I don't think so. When you purchase and if you finance ask yourself if you can pay more than the minimum.

I bought a tub 2 years ago. It did not work properly from day 1 when you turned on. The jet's fine turning them off was a problem... I have used the tub about 4 times in 2 years... They did not respond at all to my complaints about the switch. I decided to give it one more try... Started filling the tub and it leaked water out on the floor so I drained it and starting trying to get in touch with Safe Step. We emailed and called several times... It took them over a month to reply and then we were being put on the list for repair.
Another month went by and finally someone came to the house... He was here for about 10 minutes and said he didn't have the part but would order it. 2 months later no part so we started calling again. Their answer was it was shipped in August. Well it's October and no part and it's not fixed. However they did tell me it would be about a thousand dollars to fix it so this is my review. It's very overpriced, if you pay cash as we did you own it. No customer service at all... I wish I had my money back and it was gone. Thank you. 80 year old male. Sorry we got ripped off. Beware.
This was not sold by Safe Step but a dealer that no longer is in business. In future, please contact our Service Dept at 800-989-5101. I do see that we did fix some additional issues for you in December 2017, here at Corporate and got the appropriate parts ordered for you to fix your tubing that had been damaged by rodents. We here at Safe Step Corporate do warranty parts on tubs.

I saw Safe Step Walk-in Tubs and I called them. Their sales rep was very friendly and we had a good rapport. Their installation team was friendly as well and I could watch whenever I wanted when they installed it. Plus, I’m 76 years old and my knees are bad and I like that I could get in and out of the tub. That was the main reason for getting it. My husband especially likes the handrail. I also like the jets but I would like to have them on the side. I'm top-heavy and I wish I could get some penetration on the shoulders instead of the back. That's what I learned from having this tub.
So, I'm watching the TV man to try to find a tub with more jets and see if I could get that when I do it in my house in Richmond, Virginia. Also, I wish the seat was a little lower because when I sit, my shoulders were out of the water. I couldn’t get it over my shoulder unless I stoop down in the lower part. On the other hand, my husband has a back problem and the back penetration was good for him. I would definitely recommend Safe Step.

I have a stand-alone shower and I wanted a tub where I can sit down in case I slipped or fell. I’ve been looking at Safe Step Walk-in Tubs for a long time and I saw some ads on TV. It was a good experience dealing with their sales rep. He was extremely nice. He explained everything thoroughly and showed me all kinds of information. The installers were very polite and nice as well. They had quite a job, but they did great. I’ve had the Safe Step tub for more than a month now and I like everything about it. My favorite features are the heated seat and the whirlpool. The whirlpool leaves me a little easier to maneuver. Also, it's relaxing and it helps with any kind of stress, pain or muscle train. I would recommend Safe Step. They were very thorough and definitely did a great job.

We had the Safe Step salesman come out and he told us how well the tub is made. It seemed a lot better than others and it's pretty darn solid. It was pleasant to deal with the salesman. Their installers were great and they did everything. We had a problem with a leaky door, but they knew what the problem was and fixed it right away. The lighting is nice and you can set it to whatever mood you like, and the microbubbles are neat too. It all works fine.

I'm a veteran and the sales representative from Safe Step said that they would take care of all the paperwork. They do it for veterans all the time. But it's been a couple of months now and I haven't heard back from them on that. They installed the tub and put up a grab bar, a mirror insulation, and a shower curtain. I've been in it, and I fairly like it, but I'm having trouble getting the lights to work. I'm pretty dissatisfied right now. They were fast to put the tub in and to want the money, but the installation is not completed yet. And the man who's supposed to come next week will finish it. I contacted their customer service three times and the representative scheduled for someone to come tomorrow and then he called back and canceled it until next week.
It shows that all of your VA paperwork was sent to you after installation, at the end of August. I am going to FedEx you another copy today. I do not see where you have contacted our Service Department on your issues and there is no Service Ticket open for you. Part of the problem could be, you are talking to the installation people instead of the Service Dept. Our Service Dept number is 800-989-5101, for future problems. I am going to open up a Service Ticket and have someone call you ASAP.

I'm very pleased with my Safe Step Walk-in Tub so far. The only thing is it takes so long to fill up. I'm not a long tub person yet, so I've been taking quick showers and I would like to get used to this long tub business. I got one of those $1,500-off coupons from some kind of magazine and I've always wondered about them so I just called. Then I did it. Jennifer came to see me and she was very, very nice, She did everything she's supposed to do and I have no complaints. She showed me sample videos and described everything about it. Then she did all the measurements and decided what they needed or didn't need to do.
The installers did a very good job and were very, very nice. I had a little dead space, but when the men came, they were not so sure it's a dead space. They thought maybe some of my piping that goes up to the roof might be there. They climbed up the attic and went down under the floor just to make sure it was dead space. It turned out Jennifer and I were right about it being just dead space.
They set it up and did a nice job. I was worried about the ceiling cause I didn't want this messed up look in my ceiling just in case they cut all that dead space up. They dropped it down from the ceiling and were able to make it look really cute. They said that they've had to maneuver around that in different houses and had come up with ideas on what they can do to keep from ruining somebody's house. The only thing is where it jutted out on the floor. I have little pretty tiles in the bathroom, and they had to cut out the tiles 'cause the tub wouldn't fit. It left a little empty place on the floor where they had to cut the wall out. I'm hoping I can something from Lowes to fill in that little place because one of these days I might sell this house. I'd get too old and I'm not going to be able to live here for all of my life.
I like the light. I like to turn the lights on and just sit there. I can watch them while the tub's filling up. The first few times I got in there, I didn't even do the jets because I was afraid. Then I did the one where it gets bubbly and I liked it. I don't like sitting down on anything cold so I like the power seat. I think I am going to really like it better as I get used to it and as I learn to slow down. As a whole, I like it and it's just going to be very beneficial. If they can afford it, this is the perfect thing for people who like tub baths as they get older. I grew up taking tub baths and I don't care for showers at all. However, I know I could use the shower part of it if I was in a bit of a hurry. It's nice to be able to know that you can get in and out of that thing without getting stuck in there.

We are satisfied with our Safe Step Walk-in Tub. Our favorite feature is the jets because they have an effect on our bodies. However, we had a problem with the department that's in charge of installation. The guy that installed the tub thought that the job was finished when he left. The shower part did not work properly and it just trickled out. We called several times before we could get someone to come take care of it. We started calling four days after it was installed and it did not get fixed until a month later. We were more than satisfied with the salesman and the person who did the initial installation but we would not recommend Safe Step because of the way the business office handled the follow-up.

We’ve had the Safe Step tub for a little over a month now. Their sales rep was very good and he knew his merchandise. He was not high pressure at all. He just gave us the facts. The installers were here about five after 8:00 in the morning and they were very cautious in covering the floor in and out of the front door. They did a beautiful job and cleaned up everything just the way we expected them to. We’re very pleased. They were gone by about 4:00. I was really thrilled with the tub. We like its microbubble feature. My husband has very dry ankles from diabetes and other health issues and the tub has helped his legs so much by exfoliating them. He also loves it for his severe back problems. It feels so good when he has his back jets on. Also, I had hip replacement surgery and can get into a regular bathtub but can’t get out. This Safe Step tub had enabled me to have a bath. We’re very satisfied customers and we’ve already talked about it to friends.

I saw the Safe Step tub advertised in AARP and have had mine since the 2nd of August. Their salesperson put up the figures and everything else but one time, when I called their Nashville office, it took them a couple of weeks to return my call. Then Steve, the installer, had to come back because I had a question on the caulking in the back. I also made a second call several weeks ago to have him come out again because the main access panel is loose. They told me that all I had to do was press it and it'll go back, but it's not going back. Steve then called me and said he could come on the 9th or 10th of September but that was my birthday weekend so I told him not to come. He said he had a real busy week and I haven't heard from him since. But the overall experience was very good and I’ve recommended Safe Step to a friend.

The Safe Step salesman sat in my dining room and told me about walk-in bathtubs, and I was impressed. He seemed to know a lot about their product. It's not necessary for me to have a walk-in tub at this point in my life, but I was anticipating. I've had to use it as a shower right after it was installed because I had someone come in and took over my shower room. So, I had to learn how to use it as a shower. I don't have the patience to use it as a tub because I have to wait seven minutes for it to fill. And the only way to do it now, when I do use it, is to crawl over the side after it's full and then I crawl out. I don't wait for it to empty because it's just too much.

Their step wasn't as high as the other ones, so it was easy for us to pick out what we wanted. I like the cleansing feauture, the microbubbles and the leg and the back jets. I'm not really satisfied with the whole Safe Step deal. They have a fine product but they don’t tell the pricing upfront. There seem to be a pressure that if I didn’t make up my mind, I will lose $300, $400, $500. The sales rep was real secretive about the price. The first question he asked was, “Well, how much can you afford for this product?” And he said, “Well, how much do you think one of these will go for?” And before I can get in there, my wife shouted a price and so immediately right there, he knew where his cushion was. He worked with that number instead of upfront pricing. If people knew how much it was going to cost them, I really doubt that they would sign up because it’s expensive. It’s like buying a brand new car and I don’t think that it should cost that much.
Everything’s already installed and the installation was fine. I’ve tried it a couple times and it got a little bit too warm for me because I got COPD and type 2 diabetes and everything’s kind of a pain to a head and giving me panic attacks. But my wife’s happy with it. She has fibromyalgia and it helps her relax, soothe her muscles and take the pain away a little bit. It is effective to a point but they’re not upfront about the volume of water that it takes. I recently just reread the stuff and it says it takes approximately 72 gallons.
Right now, it drains my water tank and they won’t put in a 50-gallon tank into my structure. I had to have it replumbed and they raised it up and adjusted the valve so they can get a bit more hot water out of the system. I had to spend $1,600 for the plumbing on top of what I spent for the tub. The salesman supposedly gave me a discount but they can have a whole lot better deal to have upfront pricing. Now he got me in debt. The workmanship, the product, and everything is a good deal but it’s the overall expense that I got a problem with, and I’m going to have a problem with for several years.

When we saw Safe Step's infomercial on TV, my wife called them to see where it would fall out. They have a really good salesman who came here and sold us the tub. The installation guys were very knowledgeable. They clean up after themselves and they were also really quick. My wife loves our walk-in tub. She had issues with her feet and she thinks it's a little bit better since we got the tub. I got it for her, but I've also been in it once, so far. There were a couple of times when the drain wouldn't work right. When you pull up on the drain, the stopper wouldn't come up because there was a lock on the stud that's on the stopper and it was loose. I didn't know what happened with it but I adjusted it and tightened it up, and it was fixed.
I was also going to call Safe Step about the baseboard that goes at the bottom of the tub. They put a white one on instead of an almond color, which is the color of the tub. It looks kind of odd. Other than that, we're happy with the tub and I'm glad we did it and I hope we'll have many years of trouble-free service. I would recommend it, too. And, if I can get somebody to call my salesman and buy one, he said he'd give me $500.

I had a knee surgery and I wasn't able to get in my regular tub so I went for quite a while without a good soak. Since the installation of the walk-in tub, I feel better about myself because I'm cleaner. We love the jets and the lights but my favorite feature is the bidet. And then my mom gave me some headphones to use in there but they keep cutting on and off. I thought there was a short in the headphones but when I use them outside of the tub, they're fine. I called Andrew and told him that I have a mess and the installers haven't come out yet or called. He called me back and he said that somebody was going to be calling me within two hours and they did. The installers got out here the next day and looked at it.
The installation team was right on it. They talked to us when they finished installing and they also told us how to use the walk-in tub. My mother in law had back and knee surgery, and she’s got a pinched nerve and a sciatic nerve. She gets down in the walk-in tub with all the jets going and it hits every spot that it needs to. My husband had a collarbone surgery and the tub helps him in the back area. I’m getting ready to have knee surgery, so it does help relax the nerves and joints. And then my son, who's 18, got in and loves it. He also has muscle aches since he works on a Van’s Foods company and he throws out meat. That is not good and I want something done because it’s not right.
They should have changed the tub. I gave enough money for the tub that they should have come back and fixed that. And during the installation the tech busted part of the frame of the doorway in my bathroom and I didn’t see it after they left. My husband ended up using the jacuzzi tub only once and he passed away a year and a half ago and I made up my mind that I was gonna get me one. Their Safe Step rep was polite, kind, and knowledgeable. Also, the installers were funny and we had a lot of fun. They explained everything to me before they left. The jets and the water coming out on my legs, feet, and back are my favorite. But it all feels good. I love it all. Everybody has to have one.

I got tired of stepping over in a bathtub and the Safe Step tub has served me well. I'm 91 and it’s hard to stand to take a real shower but I figured it's better while sitting on the tub. The safe walk-in bathtub is beautiful for its purpose. The whole experience has been very good.

I needed the Safe Step Walk-in Tub because I have problems with my back. I liked the looks of it and I thought it was a great idea. The sales representative was really nice and the installers who came were very neat and cleaned up after themselves. They took their time and did an excellent job on the caulking. They also got rid of my old tub. The only thing is I didn’t get a manual with the tub. They showed me how to use it but I’m 79 years old and I forget. I called about 10 days ago but I just got the book. I'm not too happy that it took them that long to get me the book. Because of the book I already now I know I have to warm it up first. I like what it does for my back. It doesn’t get rid of all my pain but it eases it right down. My experience with Safe Step has been excellent.

Safe Step Walk-in Tubs' history made us choose them. They also had a better price point than the others that we looked at. My interactions with their sales reps were good and they had given me all the information I needed. Then the installation went fine. My favorite features of the tub are the hand-held shower and the heated seats. It has been more convenient for my mom to get in herself and wash her hair and bathe her. It's a good experience.

Safe Step was in my email's spam folder and I've always wanted one of their tubs. One day it caught my eye so I went looking around and bought one. The sales rep was shocked that I was so young but he was professional. Then the installation team had the tub whipped in, and they were in and out quick. Everybody was there on time, handled their business and left like they were supposed to. So I was very happy with the installation. I enjoy taking baths in the tub and I'm not worried about falling in and out of it. It helps me with my headaches too. Also, I like the micro stuff. But for a taller guy like me, the leg jets would be better if they were stronger. Since I have longer legs, they push out the jets and they don't get the back of my calf well. It would also be cool if the tub was deeper for us taller guys. Other than those, I love the tub, it was a good deal and the overall experience was great.

My husband saw Safe Steps Walk-in Tubs online and made the phone call. The sales reps who came here was very thorough and covered all our concerns about safety. They went through all the steps to evaluate whether we needed a sit-in tub or if the shower would be fine. Then they talked to us about all our concerns. Particularly, my husband was having difficulty getting in and out of the tub and had concerns about the safety of a tub versus a shower.
Their installers were very nice, courteous, speedy, and professional. When they came, they introduced themselves and got started and continued on until they were finished. There was an issue and one of the older pipes was clogged. They came out and showed it to us and explained the problem. Then they replaced it and continued on. They were very good.
My husband likes the seat that we had installed, which is very convenient, and the ease of getting in and out. We'd like a little larger lip, but it keeps the water in and works great. We have guests that come in and out frequently and they're all very impressed with it and seemed to like having that versus our old tub. We're both satisfied with the shower and we're very glad that we had it put in. The price was a staggering, but we enjoyed the shower a lot.

I had all these other people schedule to come out here and Safe Step showed up first. A lady named Pam and another guy came together and they had a van. They showed me a Safe Step tub like they show on TV. The best of my knowledge, that tub was a solid tub. When they came up here with my tub, they came up here with my tub from down in Tennessee. They got it out of the box and I couldn’t get in it. After I told Safe Step that I looked at the one on the back of their van and I couldn’t get in, I had to have the biggest and the best. They gave it from $17,000 to $11,000. They got us sign a contract to give them $5,000 upfront, which I did. It was messed up when I gave them $5,000. I was ready to cancel, but they wouldn't give me my money back.
It was supposed to have been put in on the 6th of last month. They came up here with a tub, and it was all in pieces. Side panels weren't magnetized and it was in pieces. They had Dekro on there. When they got it put in, there’s no sealer coat besides the Dekro and then they caulked up the cracks and everything. Then they had to put a six to eight-inch little step down on it and everything. But they did all these in one day’s time. It looked pretty good when they first got it done. They told us we couldn’t use it for 48 hours. We didn’t use it until late Sunday evening 'cause they didn’t get it put in until late Friday evening. We waited late Sunday evening to use it. We're both elderly people and both of us crippling. We got a 19-year-old crippled granddaughter that has to wear braces up to her knees and can't walk. We mainly got the tub for her and me and my wife because we're both crippled in a wheelchair and a walker.
They carried all these pieces into my car garage. I got to look and some of these panels were all worked up, flat and straight. I was looking at this old Dekro on the back of them and I'm thinking, “Surely. This ain’t what I'm getting. How is this going to look when they get done?” Well, when they got done, it looked pretty good. The next morning, which was a Saturday, I was in there sitting on the stool beside it looking around the door and all that caulk came loose. I reached out and pushed on it to see if it stayed up and it wouldn't stay up. The caulking is also still so sticky that your hair will get stuck with it.
I called the installer and he told me to send him a tube of caulk and he can fix it. I went trying to call somebody to come and do something about the issue all weekend, emergency line. Nobody can get that done and said that I had to wait for Monday after 8:00. Then they lied to him and sent me the wrong tub. I went and called back trying to see what I could get done. They told me they got it coming on the 18th for my schedule.
On the 18th, they showed up here with this tub that I've got. I wish I can get in it, but I just stand over on the far corner and turned my feet sideways one way and one the other way, and lean to the back as far as I can lean to get the door shut. It doesn't work well for me. It works good for my granddaughter. We're paying $11,000 for something and it's falling apart. Finally, Monday morning, the installer showed me where he had put an extension on it. He told me that everything's lifetime warranty as long as I live in the house and that they'll come within 24 hours. On Monday evening the one I spoke to wasn't too generous with me. He told me that they couldn't send someone out until Thursday. I said, “I've gone without our bathroom from Friday until today to even get in there and to shower off.” I also told him that it was an emergency.
What happened to all those guarantees within 24 hours? Our handicapped granddaughter is supposed to be without the equipment for a week? Safe Step ripped me off for $11,000. They told me I couldn’t get it done cheaper, but I could have. I've threatened them of BBB because I have been lied to since the get-go. American Standard came down to $7,000 something. Kohler down the road here came down to below $8,000. We started out with $17,000 here at the house trying to get me to pay that. I am absolutely dissatisfied.

I liked the looks of the Safe Step walk-in tub and the salesman that came out was fine. I'm a veteran and they gave me a little bit of a discount. The fellows that did the installation were absolutely excellent. There was a piece of plastic pipe on the side of the tub and it had a crack. The guy didn’t have any stuff to fix it with, so I had to take him to a local hardware outfit and he got everything he had to have and fixed it. The tub is so handy to walk in and out of. When my wife first went to use it, she got in and started running water and she didn't have the latch on it tight. I walked in there and water was running everywhere. So you got to have that latch tight.

My parents are both elderly and my mother is a little overweight. They had a garden tub and it was hard for her to lift her weight over to get in and out of the tub. When my father and I watched the TV commercial of the Safe Step walk-in tub, he liked it and wanted to try it. He's had open heart surgery and the walk-in tub would benefit him too. The sales reps were outstanding and the rep that came out really sold us on the tub. The guys that installed the tub were very nice guys and they were very professional, and they knew exactly what they were doing. They walked us through everything they did, didn't hesitate, and went right in and got the tub in there. Later on, the sales rep even called to check and see how my mother liked the tub. My dad said Safe Step has good people working for them.
I was the first one to try the walk-in tub and I loved it. I said, "If this was my bath, I might have a candle and a radio, and I'd be in there all the time." But even if the tub is right off my parents' bedroom and others have enjoyed using it, my mother, who's got dementia, was afraid of it at first because of the way the drawer locks. But I told her it's absolutely safe and there's no way she can fall. We had to tell her before to move her leg over so we could shut the door, but she's getting used to the tub and she's getting better at getting into it. As time goes on, she'll have no choice but use it more as that tub cost her $14,000. On the other hand, my dad likes to shower and think. He has poor circulation in his legs and sits down whenever he wants, and I told him to try the jets today. All in all, we've had an excellent experience with Safe Step.

The sales rep was a very nice man -- no hard sell and just knowledgeable. Also I was amazed at how quickly they got the installation done and how nice the tub looked. I had special tile work done on around the edges of the other large tub that I had. I told them I didn't want the tile work messed up and they didn't touch it. The lifetime warranty made us go with Safe Step in buying a walk-in tub. The two guys that installed the tub did a beautiful job. They were very neat in the way they put the tub in there and caulked everything. Both my wife and my mother-in-law, Ruth, have used the tub and they liked everything about it. The previous tub that was in the house was just a 5-foot, regular, fiberglass tub.
But after the tub was installed, we've had some problems with the electrical wiring, although the issue was not with the tub itself. Instead of running the wires through the attic, the electrician ran the wires down underneath the house, which was fine. But he had a problem in getting the wire down through the sill plate. He worked like crazy since all the wires for the whole house go down through that sill plate and he finally got the wire through. But the electrician might have pulled something loose in the electric box or skinned a wire. Since then, the lights in our kitchen don't work right and won't come on, then all of a sudden they come on after two or three days. The house isn't that old and we never had a problem with that before. We have to wait three days before the Safe Step guys will come to check on that issue. Other than that, Safe Step was very good overall.

Safe Step's presentation was very convincing and it seemed to have a lot of benefits over the other companies so we went with them. Everything was professional during the installation and I'm satisfied with what the installers did. But my parents are having trouble adjusting to the tub. All the gadgets and the handles seemed very confusing to them.
So even though we got the tub for physical reasons, we didn’t take into account that for them it means having to learn new things which is hard to do at their age. My mother is used to sitting flat on the bottom of a tub so she will not sit on the seat. She will try to sit on the floor of the thing, which is a bit shorter than a real tub. My father is doing okay with the shower part of it but he's still using our other walk-in shower instead of that tub. It's geared towards people with physical problems, but with the mental state that's still sharp. In this case, my parents' physical state is pretty good but the mental part isn't. And that’s something that never crossed my mind during this whole process. So Safe Step should also make sure that the customer has the mental capacity to operate the tub.

The Safe Step sales rep that we worked with was okay, and the installers came on time and got the job done faster than I thought they would. However, they didn’t cut everything right, and there were some holes that we had to fill up. I had to put some tile down, so I hired The Tile Man to do it. I have a half inch gap where the tub sits down on the floor or along the front where the door is. There's nothing to support that, so it's flimsy and I have to come up with a three quarter round to fix it. But other than that, everything else is working fine.

I saw Safe Step and being 67 and my husband over 70, we figured it would be ideal for us but it wasn’t, unfortunately. I have to sit down on the cold seat and let the water fill up past the jets and I could turn it on and then turn the heated seats up. I can't turn the machine on because I'll ruin it if it doesn’t have water in it and that’s $15,000. It takes at least 15 to 20 minutes to fill up the tub and I just sit there and do nothing until the tub fills up. I also have to take the showerhead and put it all the way over the faucet to hang it up on the wall to take a shower.
I can't even take a shower and that’s another bad feature. I have to sit down, shut the door and then stand up to take a shower. I can't shut the door without sitting down on the seat. These are things that I wasn’t aware of and that’s why Safe Step should have a display unit somewhere close like Cherokee, that somebody could go in and actually see how it works before they buy it. Also, the sales rep went over them, but he didn’t say I will be sitting on a cold seat for 15 to 20 minutes. But once you fill it all up and turn it on, it works great. I enjoy it after a minute. My hair is softer and I got rid of a lot of dead skin because of the jets. I also like the lights that change.
On the other hand, they pressured me to it in one day and I didn’t even have a chance to shop around and see if there was something else that worked for us. They said, “You only get this discount if you get it today. Otherwise, you don’t get this discount.” So, I felt like they were pressuring, but we're stuck with it. When it works, it works. We got the $15,000 paid for but I’m not getting my money’s worth. I wouldn’t recommend it to somebody.

I wanted the walk-in tub because my wife was having trouble getting in and out of the tub. I had a salesman from Safe Step come down and he was a fast talker and he showed me all the differences between all of the different tubs. At first I decided not to get it and then he came back. He pressured me and pressured me. He said, “Well, we’ll deduct $3000 off the price.” So I went from $14,000 to $11,000 and I told him, “Well, what about the interest and taxes and that?” He said, “Oh there’s no interest and no taxes. It’s just $150 a month.” I already got a bill and it showed $39 and interest a month. That’s like 30 something percent interest.
It looked like the quality of the tub was good but we've had a lot of trouble with it and I can't get anybody to help us with that. For one thing the tub is not level. And if I get water on the shower it runs off down unto the floor. Another thing is they had to cut a hole in the bedroom next to the bathroom to put the tub in and they didn't put anything under one of the legs of the tub and that's probably why it's not level. And they just put one piece of drywall over the hole that they made in the wall and then they didn't finish like putting the plaster back on. They just left the gap all the way around.
And then they had another guy come out and he wanted to look at the tub not being level. So he poured the shelving off to the wall that was over the hole that they made. The pipes were rattling after they got them every time I turn the water on unto that. They left one of the pipes loose and so the other guy came over, just dug down some wedges in between the pipe and the wall, didn't fasten up and down and now it's doing it again.
For a $11,000 tub it should be working but it’s not. It’s also a hassle to clean. I have to clean it because my wife can’t. I can deal with that but all the other stuff is just frustrating like not being able to talk to anybody that really cares. I've been trying to get ahold of somebody that pays attention and it seemed like they're brushing me off because every time I talk to somebody, they recommend me to somebody else.
I called the maintenance people. I even tried calling the main office and she gave me a phone number to the manager and I've been trying to call this manager and I get a busy signal. A corporation like that and I get a busy signal? That doesn't make sense. It seems like after we got the tub they forget about us and it's supposed to be a lifetime warranty? I don't think so. I wouldn't recommend Safe Step to anybody. I'm reaching out to the Better Business Bureau and I'm filing a complaint.
