I was cooking a meatloaf and potatoes in a pyrex glass dish when all of a sudden you heard a loud pop. The bottom of the dish fell apart and glass was all over the place. Thank god there was no injury substained but it left a huge mess in my oven and kitchen. I never had a problem like this before and this dish was brand new.

Hi, you have published my story here on your website. A piece of information that has been left from the story was one I didn't intentionally omit but has been brought to my attention. About an hour before my rolls went in the oven a burner on the stove had been turned on under my pan. The burner had inadvertantly been turned on where I was raising the rolls. It was literally on for a few seconds. There was not a mark on the pan. However, I felt I should let you know this piece of info. If you wish to ammend the story or remove it from the site for this info I fully understand. I apologize for the missing info. It was not me who turned the burner on.

Put a couple of beef tenderloins in a Pyrex loaf pan in the oven on 425 and after 20 minutes heard a big bang. Went in the kitchen to check on the food and glass was all over the oven along with all the juices from the meat. It blew out the pilot in the oven so we had to finish cooking for a couple minutes in the microwave. We spent a good 45 minutes cleaning the oven out thoroughly. I am just so glad after reading other experiences here that it happened in the oven. If my wife or dog would have been injured someone would have me to answer to!

I was cooking scalloped potatos in a 425 degree oven when after 9 minutes I heard a pop and looked in the oven only to find that the dish had exploded and had blown all over my oven(thank god it was in the contained in the oven). My oven tripped the breaker and shut off automatically. My husband pulled the entire oven apart and I cleaned the oven, so it would not smoke when we uded it next. When we went to turn it back on to see if it would work it tripped the breaker again and would not run. My thought is that alll the juice ran down into the heating elimant and has fried something. Now I have to call a professional that is probably going to cost an arm and leg to have my oven repaired. I am hoping to get some help from the customer care center but I am afriad that I will not get much.

I was baking Chicken in my oven with a 13x9 Pyrex dish when it exploded inside my oven sounding like an explosion and glass was all over the inside of my oven. My whole family ran inside the kitchen, that's how loud it was! The funny part is, the same thing happened approximately 4 years earlier! I thought it was a fluke when it happened the first time- I will never cook in Pyrex again. I have 2 small children in my house- no thanks!

Hello! Today, my wife had a 12 inch lasagna dish explode on her. I've never seen anything like it before! It really scared her, and thankfully our two small children were not in the kitchen at the time. She brought the dish out of the oven to cool and set it on the stove top. She then accidentally turned on the wrong burner on our electric stove (the burner under the lasagna dish) and about 3 minutes later the dish exploded! The glass flew everywhere all over the kitchen.

It was like something out of a movie except very real, and very scary. My wife is 6 months pregnant and some of the glass actually hit her in the stomach. Fortunately, she was not cut. Now we realize that the dish is not meant to be on a burner, but I would expect that at most the dish would just crack. Not explode! We have used Pyrex cookware all our lives (just as our parents have) and would surely liked to have known that the dish could actually explode if put on a burner. Thank you.

After baking chicken in the oven for 20 minutes, I took out the dish and set it on top of the stove. After getting the dinner served up, sitting down at the table to eat, my husband and I heard a loud bang. We thought something had fallen off the counter. When we walked into the kitchen we noticed the Pyrex dish had exploded. There was glass (large, small and tiny) pieces and liquid that was in the dish, all over the stove, floor and counter. There were even pieces of glass in the leftover vegetables. I have never had this happen to me before. Now I am scared to use Pyrex in the oven again. We were lucky that we were not in the kitchen at the time it exploded.

I have read several of the blogs and there seems to be a problem that has gone on for many years. I think CR should continue to investigate the problem and if found to be correct support litigation as a class action project.

Purchased two Pyrex 9-1/2 Pie Pans just before Christmas. This morning while cooling a pie on a rack, one of the pie pans shattered into a million pieces. Nothing was done out of the ordinary. The pie was prepared and baked in a 375 degree oven for 40 minutes and removed carefully to cool on a rack. After about 15 minutes of cooling, there was a loud crack and the pie pan had disintegrated. What a mess! I have been cooking for over forty years and have never seen such product failure. I have always considered Pyrex as quality bake ware but I will never bake in it again.

I was having my family over for a Post-Christmas gathering on New Year's Day. I baked a pan of sweet rolls, removed them from the oven and placed them on my marble counter top. About 5 minutes later, I opened the oven door to remove a casserole I was baking. As I turned with my casserole in my hands, the Pyrex dish on the counter exploded. It sounded like a gunshot. I was standing right in front of the exploding pan.

The glass flew over my entire meal. The casserole and gravy in a pot on the stove were covered in glass. Unfortunately, the glass also flew down my blouse and splatters of caramelized sugar hit my hands and chest. Glass also cut my hand and hit me in the face below my right eye. I had to run to the shower and stand under cold water to stop the burning. My son called 911. The paramedics came to find me sitting in my bedroom with blood running down my hand and burns on both hands and on my right breast and a lump under my eye where the glass hit me.

Thankfully, I reacted quickly removing the clothing hence removing the glass that was inside. The rolls had been baking at 395 so the glass in my shirt was hot enough to leave its mark. I am doing better today. My hands are sore and stiff and my chest skin is stiff, but the pain is minimal. My face didn't bruise, but there is a little swelling. As it turned out the cut on my hand is only about an inch long, but it sure did bleed. My dinner was ruined. My daughter went to our local market and purchased rotisserie chicken and turkey breasts and Bob Evans mashed potatoes so we did eat, but I had made a meal for 12 that was thrown away. My sons and brother in law actually got glass in their hands trying to toss out the casserole. Glass flew more than 15 feet from my kitchen into my hallway, not to mention the glass I carried to the bedroom and bathroom.

What a horror. I should mention that this was only the second time this pan was used. The paramedics requested that I go to the hospital, but I refused. My vital signs were good and my grandchildren from Virginia were about five minutes away. The paramedics put Neosporin on the burns and wrapped my hands with gauze. They instructed me to ice my eye and breast. My family suffered more than a lost meal as they were terrified by their screaming wife/mother/daughter.

I will never buy another piece of Pyrex. The pan that exploded had no directions with it. To post warnings on the web is not sufficient. Why would I look up a product to see if there are issues when no warnings came with the pan? Pyrex, shame on you and your lawyers who write excuses for you. I am thankful that my injuries are small, but I can't stop thinking of what could have been.

My boyfriend decided to make some scalloped potatoes in our 8x8 Corningware casserole dish. He read the directions, preheated the oven, warmed the water before adding it, mixed the ingredients, and then set it in to bake. He then went to lay down while he waited for his food to cook. It wasn't 5 minutes later that we heard a HUGE explosion. I jumped up quickly to see what had happened. At first I had figured that he bumped something heavy and it fell over. But, when I looked around I saw nothing. He then asked me Did it explode?. I quickly realized that he had meant our bake-ware. I opened the oven door to find half dollar sized chunks of glass scattered all over the oven, along with the uncooked scalloped potatoes. Luckily, neither of us have been hurt yet. I still have yet to clean up the mess, mind you. I'm waiting for the oven to cool. Neither of us are inexperienced cooks. I've been baking since I was a kid with off-brand glass bake-ware and have never heard of such a thing happening before. In fact, the same off-brand glass bake-ware we used when I was a kid my parents STILL have and use regularly. that's at least 10 years of baking without a shatter, chip, or crack. Ironically, we received Pyrex bake-ware for Christmas. But, seeing as how both products are made by World Kitchen, I don't have a whole lot of faith that this set won't react the same way. It's a sad day when you lose faith in your favorite and most trusted brands.

I noticed most people had problems with baking dishes, but I had a problem with my large two-cup pyrex measure. We have used it for a long time( about 3-years) to make tea in the microwave. This holiday season, I had used it to measure out liguids. It had been washed and was in the dish drainer on the counter when I reached over to pick it up. It shattered in my hand, leaving a small gash on my hand. It shocked me and I was at a loss to figure out what had happened. Then I thought maybe I had tapped it against something as I lifted it up. But even if I had, it didn't just crack or break, it shattered into hundreds of pieces!

On Christmas Day 2008 I put two 13x9 Pyrex baking pans in the oven with three Cornish games hens in each pan. I used a metal pan with the other four hens in it. The pans were room temperature when I put them into the 350-degree oven. There was also a large pan of vegetables roasting in the oven. After 30 minutes I opened the oven door to stir the vegetables. Right after I closed the door, I heard a noise in the oven. When I opened the door it looked like crushed ice all over one pan of hens; then I realized it was the Pyrex pan. Right then a small grease fire started so I closed the door again. My husband took care of the fire and we had to throw out the entire meal for 18 people. I have been using Pyrex bake ware for 45 years and have never had a problem before. Could it be that Pyrex is now being made in China out of a different type glass?

When after about 10min. of heating I opened the oven door with my 10month old in a jumper across the room from the oven. When I opened it I heard a large explosion. It took me a min. to realize what had happened after I calmed down. I saw what looked like shattered ice, then it dawned on me that that was my casserol dish. Next we put the hashbrowns into a 13 x 9 Pyrex pan. The pan was stored in kitchen shelf and was at room temperature. After being in the oven at just 175 degrees - about 30 minutes later the pan exploded. No one was in the kitchen, no one opened the oven - thank heavens... The Pyrex didn't just fracture, it completely exploded. We had to use a shop vacuum to clean all of the broken glass bits out of the oven. The tiny fragments were everywhere. Had someone opened the oven at that time, they would have been severely injured, perhaps even blinded by the flying glass. This is a stunningly unsafe product. I do have pictures....

Yesterday I made a Chicken Parmesan in my Pyrex casserole dish that was bigger than my 13x9x2 dish. I have had this dish for 25 years. I took it out of the a 375 degree oven and placed it on top of the stove to cool. After maybe 10 minutes I moved it on top of a cutting board to set it on the counter. Within seconds it cracked and shattered. There was shattered glass on the floor, on the stove, by the doorway in the dinning room. I was beside myself. My husband walked in as I was vacumming my kitchen floor and counter. Our dinner was ruined. When the dish cooled off so we could throw it away, it was shattered on the bottom. He slipped it into the pizza box to keep it together and threw it out. Now I need to replace my pyrex but of course I want to buy something that will not repeat this disaster again. Any suggestions on what I can buy that is shatter proof? Thank you. Yolanda Cherubin

After about 35-40 minutes, I pulled the dish out and placed it on the stovetop (which was not being used at the time). It sat cooling for about 5 minutes and as I was looking for something in my refrigerator, I heard a very loud, explosive sound. I thought something had fallen into my dish, knocking it on the floor. But when I turned around, I found my Pyrex dish had literally shattered, and exploded across the kitchen, along with my baked mac & cheese. Unfortunately, the glass exploded with such force, it flew into my meat mixture I had standing by to make burgers with. Thankfully, since my back was to the dish, there were no injuries. I am however, still finding shards of glass (and noodles), in unimaginable places.

I had already put my ingredients together for the baked corn in another bowl. After preheating the baking dish, I removed it from the oven and placed it on the top surface of my stove, with the intention of pouring the mixed ingredients (which had been sitting on my counter for at least a half hour)into the baking dish and then replacing it in the oven for the required baking time. Just as I poured the mixture of ingredients into the now warm baking dish, the dish cracked, into about 12 different sizes of pieces. I had a mess to clean up. The dish exploded with such force that glass shards covered my pies and the had to be thrown away. I think I'm fortunate that I wasn't handling the dish at hte time. It has always been my understanding that Pyrex dishes were oven safe. The temperature in the ovemn at the time was 350 degrees. Not an unusually high temp. I also work with warm glass. I make glass jewelry and a variaty of different decorative items. The process uses a kiln and proper annealing was always stressed in classes that I have taken for items meant to be used with foods. It appears to me that something is wrong with these dishes possibly in the annealing process. I say dishes because this is the second time this has happened to me in my cooking career. The first time was when a baking dish explode in the kitchen as we were eating in the dining room. It had been taken out of the oven, the food taken out of it and was simply cooling on the counter when we all heard a 'tink' sound. I smoothed the dough around the pan to make the bars (turned out I had oversoftened the dough as most of the chocolate chips were now melted, but it just made swirl cookie bars instead). Put the pan in the already hot oven (with three pies still in the oven). About ten minutes later I heard a pop from the kitchen. Walked in and didn't notice anything out of place. Opened the oven to pull out the cookie bars to test to see if they were done. Went to pull out the bars and realized the pan had cracked into multiple pieces with the dough barely holding the pieces together. I bought my pyrex baking dish 15 years ago in New Jersey, brought it with me to Colorado after we sold our NJ house, and I've used it once a week for all these years with no problems, mostly in the microwave. Last weekend I hand washed the dish in hot water and placed it on a towel beside the sink, seconds later the entire pan appeared to explode and glass shards of all sizes went onto the floor and smaller shards projected out as far as 8 feet across to dining room and around the corner into adjacent sitting room. My husband thought I had dropped the dish on the counter, but I was stunned by suddenly being surrounded with broken glass pieces of all sizes; the dozen or so larger pieces left dents in the wood floor. It took me days to clean up the smaller sliver sized pieces, and I found more glass pieces days later at further distances from the kitchen counter. My curiosity was aroused and I googled breaking glass wear and found the consumeraffairs.com reports on exploding glassware and realized some of the reported events fit my problem. I've used a number of glass bakeware over the years (most of it was labeled Corning, not pyrex) and since the broken dish has been thrown out, I'll never know if it was, in fact, Corning ware, pyrex or an imitator. I guess it couldn't have been Corning ware if I bought the pan after the product line was acquired by a new company. Unfortunately, the two names, Corning ware and Pyrex, seem synonimous to me. I suppose the age of the cookware itself could have contributed to the problem; if so, it would be nice to know if these pieces have a useful life so I could throw it out before this happens again. In fact, I am going to thrown out ALL the glass cookware, whatever its manufactured names. I never want something like this to happen again in my kitchen.

No shard is left with the name on it, as all the flat bottom pieces totally shattered into sharp spikes and slivers. Thousands of pieces, huge clean up. Very, very lucky! Five seconds later and my father (nearly 88 years old) likely would have been blinded as he reached in to pull out the oven rack. Cleanup of the oven, floor and drawer underneath took about two hours. Don't need an attorney but something needs to be done to stop this! I am throwing out all my Anchor Hocking and Pyrex oven dishes. I have about 10, so I will be out of pocket quite a few bucks replacing them. I am afraid to use any of them now.

It had gone from the fridge straight into the pre-heated oven. I had just put the dish back in after checking to see the chicken was not yet cooked when I heard the shatter and loud sizzling as the sauce flooded down onto the element and bottom of the oven.

Absolutely all food stuffs had to be thrown out that had been in there as none of the items had lids on them. The dish was literally in hundreds of pieces. I had another Pyrex in there (purchased at the same time as the shattered one) slightly smaller in size that did not break, but how can I trust it?

This was my first personal experience cooking with Pyrex; I had always trusted the brand name growing up with it in my mother's kitchen, and so had not thought twice about purchasing the new bakeware. You can have no doubt I will not ever by it again, and will be sure to tell my friends and family to be careful if they have some from now on. I will also be sending my complaint in to Pyrex, along with the pictures my dinner guests and I took showing the complete and utter mess that resulted from their faulty product. We were not injured, and other than the scare and the mess, we are o.k. I am angry at the thought of what would have happened to my toddler if he had been sitting on the floor playing like he had been only moments before I moved him over next to me. How many incidents have gone unreported?

This is the 2nd Pyrex dish that has exploded on us in the last 4 years.

Several years ago, I was baking some beef short ribs for dinner in BBQ sauce in a Pyrex baking dish in the oven at 350 degrees. When the timer went off, I carefully took the boiling ribs and sauce out of the oven and put them on the counter top. The dish suddenly exploded with boiling sauce and beef ribs flying around the kitchen! By the grace of God, the exploding scalding mess went everwhere, but not a drop on me. You could see the v-shape where I was standing, but I wasn't burned at all. I never treat Pyrex dishes as unbreakable. I learned my lesson.

My trusted Pyrex pizza plate is no more. Purchased about 20 years ago, I have used that plate in the oven at times, but mostly as a pastry plate for my larger cakes and homemade tea rings, covering any pastry with a large tupperware lid.

Last night, a family member retrieved the plate from the refrigerator. Very little of a cake remained. To his dismay, he dropped the plate and the thing literally exploded. This involved four rooms. Only two larger pieces remained. The smaller pieces and the fragments were through the dining room to the opposite wall. The pieces went around corners well into the family room! The dining room and family room are carpeted. They even shot past the kitchen into the laundry area.

The three adults in the kitchen suffered no cuts. Everyone's attention went immediately to my 9-month-old grandson and me as we were just inside the family room area, as I was letting my grandson hold my fingers and try his hand at walking. In other words, he was close to the ground and in the line of fire. I cannot tell you how relieved we all were that no glass had cut our baby boy or flew into his eyes.

I have read many of the former complaints and the response of Mr. Arnold. I understand his wishes to stand by his products. I have used Pyrex for 46 years. I own Pyrex for the convenience of oven, microwave, refrigerator useage. Bexides, I like the looks of clear glass. All that being said, I stand by our description...the glass exploded...not from any temperature change but from dropping it on a vinyl tile floor. That part does not surprise me...the exploding part does. It took three of us 30 minutes and two vacuum cleaners to clean up the mess. We have yet to move the refrigerator where we did see more pieces as we used wet paper towels at the edges of the kitchen for the very tiny fragments.

Pardon my wordy explanation, I am rather shook. My purpose is to add evidence that maybe the formula used in the making of Pyrex needs adjusting?

My husband baked augratin potatoes in an 8 x8 pyrex glass pan in the oven. He took the potatoes out of the pan and put water in the pan and set it on the stove to soak the potatoes off and it exploded all over the kitchen. As it was exploding, my husband and 8 year old son were in the kitchen and my son panicked and turned to run out of the kitchen and he stepped on the broken glass with his bare feet.

He ended up in the ER and had to get 4 stitches from the large chunk of glass that he stepped on. It also left a large shard inside his foot that the Dr. at the ER had to get out before stitching his foot. This was extremely traumatic and painful for my son since he had never had stitches before.

I have used my pyrex pans for years (I have several sizes) and nothing like that has ever happened before except a few years ago when I was cooking chicken in the oven and put cold water in the hot pan inside the oven and that pan exploded inside the oven. No one got hurt in that instance so I forgot about it until now...I would like to warn everyone to be extremely careful when using these pans as they literally explode into large shards of glass. I found pieces of glass 15 feet away in the hallway and the bedroom from this last explosion. I am very thankful that the glass did not hit my husband or son in the face as that would have been much worse.

I read about the Pyrex baking dishes exploding. I too had this happen with old Pyrex. I took it out of the oven and set it on my glass stove top. It sat for a few seconds to a minute and then exploded. It was basicly in half, with lots of tiny shards of glass all over. SOme slightly larger shards were also all over. I was really afraid! I had walked away from it, and had I still been standing over it I think I would have been injured. I immediately threw away all my Pyrex dishes, thinking that it happened due to being old. I'm only writing you at such a late date because the debate on Consumer Affairs seemed to be about NEW Pyrex. Mine was older. I have never bought any more.

This luckily caused no physical damage to my kitchen or myself. It did cause me to fear using any of them again, so I threw out all Pyrex that I had.

As I was going to open the oven door I heard a series of load crackling noise. When the noise subsided my husband carefully opened the door - not knowing what had happened.

We found that the pyrex dish had exploded. The same thing had happened a few weeks back with another pyrex glass dish but not as serious as this time. Last time the dish just fell apart on the table. The sides came away from the bottom. At first, we thought that maybe I had used the dish for baking with a crack already in it and the heat made it worse. But after last nights occurrence I know there is something drastically wrong with the pyrex products.

I never had a problem for all the years using pyrex and never thought to replace it with another brand BUT now I seriously doubt thatI would purchase anything made by pyrex or an affiliated company.

The damages are that I am out 2 pyrex glass dishes. There was no dinner to eat. Cleaning up that mess I sustained 2 cuts on my right hand and 1 cut on my finger which didn't stop bleeding for close to an hour.

I had to replace all of my kitchenware, and one of the first things I bought was a set of Pyrex baking dishes from Target. It contained all the basic pieces, so I thought it would be good to start out with.

Tonight, I used the 9 X 13 baking pan for the first time to make a pan of lasagne. I baked it covered with foil for 25 minutes @ 350 degrees, then removed the foil to let it brown for 10 minutes. As soon as I walked out of the kitchen and sat down to watch tv, I heard a loud cracking sound. I thought the cat had tipped something over in the kitchen, but when I went in, I couldn't seen anything out of place. I opened the oven door, and shards of glass were everywhere, with lasagne dripping down the oven rack. I was fortunate that it didn't explode in my hands or injure me, like some of the other stories I read.

I'm very disappointed in Pyrex, and will be returning everything to Target, including a bag with the broken glass and lasagne. I won't buy their products again, although I don't know what brand to buy now. Pyrex is all I've ever used.

Once at the picnic, I realized that there was not enough room on food table for the desserts so I asked the hostess if I could put the pan in her fridge.

Once the pan touched the shelf of the fridge it broke in my hand, cutting the flexor tendon of my fourth finger on my right hand. We did not take pictures of the glass though there were 2 witnesses in the kitchen when the accident occurred. We did rush to the emergency room where stitches were done and x-rays were taken.

First, I had stitches, then hand surgery 5 days later. The surgery, alone, cost nearly 10,0000 dollars. My hand has been totally immobilized for 4 weeks and I'm doing physical therapy which will last at least 3 months. It's been a real hardship; I'm working less and have no use of my right hand until August 11th. It was an older pan with no visible cracks and no chips. Yesterday, about 12:30pm, I was putting away lunch leftovers. I opened an overhead kitchen cabinet and was reaching up to get one of my Pyrex glass storage bowls, when a Pyrex container from an upper shelf exploded outward, showering me with glass fragments and shards. I had not touched this container, in fact, I hadn't had time to even reach the bowls I wanted for storage. This was a spontaneous explosion of the Pyrex glassware.

I ended up at the Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital E.R. to have a six inch long laceration stitched on my left forearm, and a pucture on my right palm treated. The injuries could have been worse. Could have ended up with glass in my face, eyes, and chest. I had seen a program on TV about exploding Pyrex, but most of the instances talked about were where people had taken the dishes out of the oven and put them on a cool/cold surface to rest. Which I don't do. I, my mother, and my grandmother had used Pyrex products and never, ever had a glass container shatter while in use. So I always felt safe using the Pyrex containers.

I am very upset, because I now feel the Pyrex containers I have are untrustworthy, and because we just do not want to use plastic any longer, are stuck as to what we can safely use for food storage and cooking. The exploded item was about 8 inches long, 4 1/2 inches wide, and about 1 1/2 inches deep. It was purchased as part of a boxed set from the Anchor Hocking/Pyrex outlet store in Pleasant Prairie, Wisc. about 2 years ago. These items were made in the USA. I have a Pyrex dish, the size for a meatloaf or poundcake, that is probably going on 30 years old now, if not older. No problem with it. What is going on at Pyrex that they are producing exploding glassware?

I ended up having to go to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital E.R., Barrington, Illinois, to have a laceration on my left forearem sutured and pucture on my right hand treated. As this just happened yesterday, Monday, July 28th2008, I have no idea yet what the medical bills will be.

I made baked beans in this cassarole at 300 degrees and when I took a spoonful I found glass in it. Luckily, I didn't swallow it. I threw it all away. When I checked the lid, I found the inner part had shattered. I have been using Pyrex for years and have always been satisfied. This must have been a defect. # 1 8 Pyrex F14C A

Upon removing my chicken dinner from the oven, I placed the 13 x 9 Pyrex dish on the stove top. Fortunately, my daughter and I had turned away from the dish when we heard this very loud crash. When I turned around and saw the Pyrex dish had literally EXLODED, I could not believe my eyes! There was glass everywhere. It was, indeed, fortunate that my daughter had also turned away from the dish or she would have had glass in her eyes, and God knows what it would have done to her beautiful face. My daughter had just been through a terrible ordeal with her eyes that lasted almost a year.

I had a similar experience many years ago. (I have been using Pyrex products for more than 50 years.) My dinner was in the oven, and I heard a horrible noise. Upon opening the oven door, I could not believe my eyes. The dish had EXPLODED, and needless to say, my dinner and the dish were all over the oven!

The loss of one Pyrex dish - which at this point may not be replaced! Of course, I also lost my chicken dinner.

I recently purchased a 13x9 clear glass Pyrex pan. The pan has been used less than 15 times, all in the oven. I was cooking some chicken tenders. I had inspected the pan for scratches or cracks and saw none visible. I put a small amount of water, as advised with glass cookware, in the pan along with the chicken. After cooking in the oven at 400 degrees for 15 minutes, I removed the pan and placed it on the counter on a thick towel. I removed the chicken to my plate, and walked over to the table to eat.

Within a minute or two, there was a large BOOM and the pan had shattered violently accross the kitchen (some shards as far as 12 ft away). Luckily, nobody was in the kitchen so no injuries occurred. The glass was still hot so it melted the lenoleum floor and stuck to it. After photographing the incident, I cleaned up the glass.

The incident completely ruined the floor in the kitchen of my apartment which I only have for a short-term lease. I will likely not get my deposit back next month when I leave because of it (over $1000). I want World Kitchen (the owners of the Pyrex brand) to compensate me for the damages to my kitchen as well as any fees assessed from my landlord for damages.

The Pyrex pan was completely destroyed into hundreds of shards. My kitchen floor has been ruined by the hot glass shards melting it. I have not gotten an estimate yet for exact cost of replacement.

I was baking chicken with broth at 350 degrees in a PYREX 9x12 or 9x13 pan. I took it out of oven to see if done and was returning it to oven when it exploded in my hands. One of the falling pieces landed on my bare foot, crushing the joint of my big toe and breaking it along the phalange of the same toe. My two children, ages 8 and 9, were in the kitchen cooking with me. Luckily, no one else got burned or cut or had their bones broken.

The more people I had to explain my inability to work, walk, or play to, the more similar stories I heard. Even the nurse at the hospital said she broke a bone and cut herself terribly when the same thing happened to her. She said she never reported it and shrugged it off. I was astonished that so many people have had this happen to them and I have never heard anything about it.

Broken/crushed joint of left foot big toe and phalange of same big toe. Lost 3 days of work then worked through the pain. It's been more than 3 weeks and i still can't put pressure on it. Estimated 6 week recovery period. Doctor says definate development of arthritis in the joint in future.

I went running in the kitchen not knowing what had happened when I discovered my pyrex dish had exploded all over the inside of my oven leaving behind about 600 tiny pieces of glass, and destroying our dinner.

Well, it cost me about $10. worth of chicken and the price of the casserole dish.

Just to follow up: I did receive a response from the company that now owns Pyrex. They said I was supposed to have liquid in the bottom of the pan when cooking meats, which I don't remember being told before. She said it would weaken the pan if I didn't use water in that type of situation. They are sending out a new pan. I have to decide whether we want to use it or not. But maybe I didn't use it properly.

I was making spare ribs in the oven with my 9x13 pan at 325 degrees and was just going to check on them when I heard this explosion in the oven. The pan had shattered into a million pieces. Thank God, I had not opened the oven door or it could have shattered in my face.

We're still not sure about how operational our oven is. We lost the baking pan, of course, but also are concerned about the tiny shards of glass that may still be around. We cleaned up as best we could. This was a very unnerving event considering pyrex baking dishes are supposed to be oven safe. We do not feel safe anymore using this product.

I bought two 4 piece sets of your Pryex at Wal-mart. Yesterday after spending an hour making enchiladas in the 9 X 13 pan it broke and shattered will baking in the oven (o350). I have never seen any thing like that before. It was a big mess! My meal was a disaster. I have use Pryex for 29 years and I have never had anything like this happen before! Now I am out about $15.00 for the ingredients for the enchiladas and $23.00 for the 2 sets. Thank God my daughter hasn't used her set yet. I don't understand why these sets are still being sold when Pryex knows that they shatter.

I have 2 children, of 5, that have Celiac's Disease so I have to bake thier bread weekly. I've used pyrex dishes for as long as I can remember and have NEVER had an issue, until last night.

I was baking the bread at 375 degrees as I usually do and when I took it out of the oven and placed it on the stove top to cool it literally EXPLODED on contact with the stove. Glass went shooting every where.

All I can say is thank GOD my kids were in bed and safe from the glass shooting around my kitchen. I was not hurt thankfully but I'll never forget the sound.

I don't think I'll be using the product again for baking just for fear of my family sustaning injury from explosing glass.

I placed a glass Pyrex baking dish on a front burner but noticed immediately that the burner had been turned on by accident when it started heating up. I turned it off and took a pair of kitchen mittens and moved the baking dish to another burner from the one that was heating. As soon as I placed it gently on the unheated burner it exploded and sent glass shards through three rooms, burning my kitchen tiles with numerous scorch marks. I was not injured, although I was standing directly in front of the stove. When I set the dish down, I was watching closely. It exploded first from the center and with extraordinary force sent hot glass shards (not safety glass pebbles) everywhere.

My kitchen floor is ruined, but this product should be recalled or taken off the market. I would like to be compensated but, even more important, I want to make sure that others are not injured or disfigured by believing that Pyrex products are engineered to be heated safely. No warning labels were attached to the dish or the packaging.

My tiling for a large country kitchen, which matches the tiling in an adjacent adjacent hallway and mudroom, was ruined and needs to be replaced. I do not yet have an estimate of the cost to replace it, but I would expect it to cost several thousand dollars. If I recover damages I will be pleased, but I am more interested in stopping this dangerous product from being marketed.

Just as our lunch was ready we placed the dish on the top of our stove(not hot)and it shattered all around the rims of the dish as she was still holding it.We had glass chunks all the way to our front room with a toddler and two babies roaming around.

Thursday evening I had just washed and was rinsing a Pyrex dish when it just broke in two and cut my middle index finger very, very bad, and cut my thumb on both sides and two other fingers on my other hand.

I had used the Pyrex dish a few hours earlier in the over. It had soaked in dish water for two hours. I then put fresh dish water in, washed the Pyrex dish, was rinsing it, and it just broke in two in my hand. Luckily, my husband was home and helped me. I will never use Pyrex again, and will be getting rid of all my other Pyrex dishes.

    Severely cut fingers.

I was washing dishes and asked my son to emty out the remains of my granola bars from my pyrex baking dish. I use this dish to make my bars every week. They are only cooked 15-20 minutes at 325.

I didnt wash the pan after i made the bars so it was about 1 and a half days since it had been baked in. My 14 son took the pan to the trash to emty out the remains and it broke in 2 peices as he reached the trash can , severing his thumb. He was seen in the E.R. and required stitches, several shots and is required to return to the E.R. for the removal of stitches in 7-10 days.

I then did a search and found many many issues with pyrex. I am upset my son got cut although very thankfull this didnt explode as i usually am unable to keep the kids out of the kitchen when i cook. This dish wasnt mistreated nor was it subject to extreme tempetures...it just broke. It wasnt hot or cold but room temp and had been room temp for days.
