I thought the whole point of putting down the underlayment was for nail sealing. For waterproofing under the shingles. We nail right through that underlayment on the deck because when they sell it to us that is how it is sold, as water protection under the shingles and you should be able to nail through it. Those guys say they do all this testing, this and the other to proof if it waterproof. Well I met a guy from Owens Corning, said he is from corporate, works with the sales managers. Met him here in Toledo. Guy told me those underlayments are not really for waterproofing, they don't do anything for the nails. In other words underlayment can leak. I can't understand what the point of this product is if it does not protect water under the shingle. Shingles don't leak so why do I need this. Owens Corning has sold us a bill of goods. Very disappointed on their useless, expensive underlayment.

Bought a new spec house (7 years old) from a builder that has OC Brookville shingles. Some of the shingles has worn off the asphalt on the leading edge to where the fiberglass underlayment is exposed. Also the shingles have faded differently in streaks. Filed a warranty complaint with OC; replacement cost $23000, warranty settlement $2550!! I plan to sue. Please contact me if interested in a class action lawsuit.

Bottom Line: NEVER PURCHASE FROM OWENS CORNING UNLESS YOU ARE CERTAIN THAT YOU WILL NEVER NEED ADDITIONAL SHINGLES TO MATCH YOUR PURCHASE!!! Think: storm damage or future remodel. We purchased Berkshire lifetime shingles (made by OC) for our new home in November 2007. In June 2016, we decided to add a family room onto our home only to discover that the color of our Berkshire shingles (New Bedford Bronze) had been discontinued. We called Owens Corning, they refused to make any efforts to contact their warehouses to see if any surplus was available. Of course, they didn't provided us with information to contact them ourselves either. So, we will either have a different color shingle on our addition, or if we want the entire roof to match, we will have to re-roof the whole house.

4 years ago had a new Owens Corning Oakridge with fire/ice installed in the valleys etc. The contractor did an excellent job. However, we first noticed leaks in the bedroom upstairs then the bathroom/hallway and then the formal living room ceiling started caving in. For the past 2 months we have called numerous times (and get the runaround), stating they would send a rep out and then a week later to call and was told they don't have a rep in our area. Then I found out that they do in fact have a rep who came out, took pictures, and stated that without question the shingles have failed and that this is bad!!

Still got the runaround from Owens Corning stating that I needed to fill out all the paperwork of my tax statement... and samples and that they would send that package right out; a week later found they never did but we eventually did and sent back in. Now they state that they will give a voucher for shingles... So my house is destroyed and they are not willing to do anything to fix the damage their product created? And want me to replace the roof with more of their product? Seriously? Customer Support is a Joke and Warranty is a Joke - We are seeking legal counsel today!!!

Roof has defective shingles. Owens Corning shingles were installed on the home at **, a model home built by chesmar homes, in 2007. The home was sold to the first owners in 2009. My wife and I bought the home in 2013. In sept 2015 I noticed a small water leak in the upstairs front bedroom. I got a contractor to repair the leak and he told me the shingles were defective. The leak was fixed and I notified my insurance company to have the bedroom wall repaired. I then notified Chesmar Homes of the defective shingles and was told to contact Owens Corning about the shingles. I was informed that no warranty transfer was done in 2009 and thus no transfer to us in 2013 and no warranty is in effect. Owens Corning will not honor any warranty.

Before 2006 I had roof tabs coming off my roof, so I was worried about leaks. I had a local contractor do a tear off and install a 40-year warranty architectural shingle. Now I have whole shingles coming off with some high winds that happen once in a while. The contractor was back two years ago and now has to come again. More whole shingles are coming off. What a terrible design of shingle because they almost look like they are scored to break. Also, the contractor never removed the tar seal on the back of the shingles (do they ever?). I would not recommend OC at all.

My husband and I purchased Owens Corning TruDefinition Duration shingles (top of the line) for our home in 2013 and added onto our home in 2015 using the same exact shingle but was much brighter than the other. It was so different it appeared we had added on a completely different roof. I have brand new shingles from the original roof to compare two and there is such a big difference and that's when I decided to contact Owens Corning, I got no results whatsoever. They told me it is not a defect. It is from a different color lot and that is not under any warranty.

So I'm letting all buyers be aware if you buy a roof from Owens Corning and have to replace a section or add on to your home there is a very good chance the shingle will not match. I have been on the phone with this company numerous times and they are simply rude. I had their rep at my home who was misleading. I sent photos in and thought that would help and still nothing. They still say it is not a warrant defect even though Vicki from customer service agreed after seeing the pictures that there is a noticeable difference.

In 2010 called a roofer in and found most shingles were not sealed. I contacted OC and they said that the sealing on their 30 yr shingle was only guaranteed for five (five) years. That is totally unacceptable. OC would not help in any way. Today as most all the roof is not sealed, I am having to replace a 10 yr. roof. I would not give OC a 1 if anything was lower.

I installed an Owens Corning HP Weatherguard, 40 year roof, with the intent of retiring and be secure from that expense going forward. Now, as I prepare to retire, I find the roof actually lasted 12 years in a non-severe climate. My neighbor has a 25 year old roof and a 30 year shingle, and is laughing at my decision to buy high quality OC product. OC offered to give me a credit on the same shingles worth 22% of the cost of a new roof. So they produce a defective product, it lasts 30% of the expected life, and leave me and my wife (retired with little money) to pay 80% of the cost to replace their poor quality product. I don't understand how a company can have such poor business ethics and leave the home owner subsidizing their business.

I will bet money, that is an old 25 year limited warranty ELK fiberglass Shingle. I have seen a lot of shingle failures in my life and only once was it an OC product. The industry has batted around failure for years but never seems to print whom has the most failures, GAF.

In 2000 I purchased a home which required a new roof. With a complete tear-off of the existing roofing I had the above product installed by a professional roofing company. THIS PRODUCT HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT A ROOFING HORROR STORY almost from year four. EVERY YEAR since, I have been sealing down curling edges, patching over failed granular adhesion, sealing horizontal cracks and watching small pits on the surface of these shingles multiply with each passing year. It is now 2015 and I am really in need of a complete tear off and replacement as it seems leaks are imminent.

Last fall I used up countless tubes of caulk to seal down dozens and dozens of shingles that have started to lose most of their adhesion, as these shingles have really started to fail. Anybody reading this... please pay attention to all the other complaints about these shingles... We are all saying just about the same thing. This is no joke! I have not contacted OC... Seems like they do not do anything anyway about their horrible product. I am 68 year's old.. and these shingles have been a constant problem for the last 15 years. Furious just about sums my opinion up about this company and their product...

I paid almost $13,000 to have Duration Premium shingles installed on my central Florida home in late 2007. I went with Owens Corning Duration Premium shingles because of their "premium" quality, their lifetime warranty and their high wind resistance. Within 3 months of the installation, I started having leaks. Every time it rains, I walk around the house to find the new leaks. Yes, it's that bad. Large areas of my roof have been replaced... some more than once. I've repainted all my ceilings at least twice and some rooms have been painted too many times to count.

I've also had some ceilings fall in due to being so soaked. Nailheads all over my roof have corroded to where some have completely disintegrated because of the sealant strip on the shingles which traps moisture. When my contractor pulls one shingle, large areas come up with it in sheets as the nails are no longer securing the shingles to the roof. I thought I was getting a lifetime roof; instead it's been a nightmare.

Owens Corning put me through the wringer when I made a warranty claim... loads of pictures, we had to pull shingles, and provide more pictures and then more... even though they knew that the Duration Premium shingles that were installed on my roof were defective. (I have read that the Duration Premium shingles no longer come with the plastic strip.)

Today I received their "full settlement" of $1,800. Accepting it will release them from any liability. I have not yet accepted it. I'm in shock as that's a pittance compared to what a new roof will cost. Their lifetime warranty is a joke. My contractor has been wonderful responding each time I've called to report a new leak. I know they've been as frustrated by this issue as I have.

The truck was without any form of Identification. The Expert did not have any form of name badge, ID and did not produce a Business Card.

After spending 5 minutes on my roof, he announced that the roof was fine. Before he jumped back in his truck he let me know that his C.E.O. had purchased a home for him in The Villages. You See he said, Owens Corning has soooooo many Claims here, that it was too expensive to fly down here from Ohio every week. Built my house in 2005 and 2006. In 2013 I started noticing dark streaks on my shingles. My contractor bought the shingles at Best Products in Roanoke, VA. I have two spare shingles that says 40 AR. All the dark streaks are in front of the house, and I live in a cul-desac. I first went to Best Products, and they said it was algae. They gave me the 800# to call Owens Corning.

The first time I called, I was told A rep. for the company would be out in the next few days to look at the roof and get samples. 7 days later, and the rep. didn't show up, so I called back. I was told that time that they were sending me a form to fill out, and as soon as they got the form back, a roofing contractor would come out and look at my roof. I had to show that I was the original owner, had to send them a copy of the deed and tax records. I waited about two weeks, and called again. Got the same person that I talked to before, someone named micheal. I asked if I could please speak to a supervisor, or someone other than a telephone operator. He got really offended, and informed me that he did other things beside answer the telephone. I explained that all I wanted was something done about my roof. He then told me that he was sending more forms for me to fill out. I said fine, but when could I expect the roofing contractor?

The second time I talked to him, he said they had contractors in my area, then I was told that he called around, and couldn't find anyone in my area, that all the roofers were busy putting on roofs before cold weather, but I could find my own roofer. I could not believe all the stuff they wanted on this new package. A warranty claim evaluation form fully completed, photo of front of entire house including address rear view of entire structure from ground level pitch and slope, affected areas close up and wide angle, ventilation (soffit, eave, box vents, etc.) fastener placement on installed material. I’m to lift a shingle to photograph fasteners on the shingle below. Two full size shingles, a dark and a light. Proof of ownership again, property tax bill, deed, proof of ownership at the time the material was purchased and installed.

I'm a 77 year old widow, but since there is not a roofer or company rep. to be found in these parts, then I'll just have to climb on that roof and gather the information myself. (ha ha!) NOTHING HAS HAPPENED SINCE I DIDN'T SEND IN ALL THE OTHER STUFF THEY ARE ASKING FOR. I don’t think they would take responsibility even if I did. The biggest part of an elderly persons worth is tied up in their home. It’s a shame there’s not some kind of federal regulations protecting homeowners from companies that sell faulty or substandard building materials. I understand the ceo of Owens-Corning gets 8+ million dollars a year salary.

After taking pictures and sending and shingles we figured Owens Corning would support their material. As a contractor, you have to make a decision to tear off the roof before the claim is approved but as a contractor before month old roof that has failed already, this should be a no brainer. The homeowners decided to tear off the roof before the four-month-old rough claim was approved by Owens Corning. Unfortunately, not in my benefit, the roof was denied by Owens Corning. They tried to say there was nothing wrong with it when clearly in the 1000 pictures I sent them, it showed a bad roof. Owens Corning's rep and I agreed this is a bad roof but they denied the claim which in fact I as the contractor am fully responsible for the project. So thanks but no thanks to Owens Corning. I purchased my home in 2006 which was built in 2001. Recently, I noticed that my shingles are curling. My roofer tells me that the glue is malfunctioning on the shingles. This is not only happening on my home but he pointed out that the same thing is happening on my whole subdivision. Based on this information, I filed a claim with Owens Corning. An inspector came out and took samples. I get my results back today and the roofing company who installed the roofs is being blamed. Had there not already been so many claims and class action suits, I may have believed them. The fact that many roofers are being blamed for improper installation plants many doubts in my mind and makes it appear to me that OC is willing to throw anybody in front of a bus just to get people to go away. In addition, they had to throw in that because I'm not the original homeowner that the warranty stopped at the sale unless it was transferred over in my name within a week of purchase. Who would have known to do such a thing? Ridiculous!

From the looks of what I'm reading it looks like OC has gotten to be a pro at passing the buck. The simple fact is that my 30-year-roof is lasting less than half of its life. This is not acceptable!!!! Good companies will stand behind their product if they truly believe in it. The fact that they won't do this tells me they don't even believe in their own product and where does that leave those of us with this dumpy roofing material. I'm not done with this yet. I plan on speaking with my neighbors to see if they wish to join in pursuing legal action. Spending $15K for a new roof is not anything I'm willing to lay down on. Any thoughts in my legal recourse and/or tips will be greatly welcome.

February 2013. Replaced roof on 1850 sq ft house. Used all the requirements stated in the preferred warranty requirements which required a Owens Preferred Contractor. I researched how a roof should be done and knew exactly what I wanted and had it included in the contract. Chose Lev-Con Contractors, Inc; signed a contract and he promised that he would be doing the work himself. Instead, he showed up (this was a rental House) when I had not been told and only on the second day did I know he was there when he emailed to say that they had to remove some of the gutters. I went over immediately and found a Mexican company from Palm Coast doing the work and most of the gutters had not been removed, but ripped off and totally ruined. No one else was there except 4 or 5 workers and a supervisor or owner who could speak English.

I was having an entire Owens system installed and found that a front section appeared as though the weather barrier sealer had not been put smoothly down and some of the shingles were wavy. In addition, there was a nail stick out in the living room where it had been driven thru the wallboard and several vents had been knocked off and were gone. The contractor and I agreed that he would repair and that we would split the cost of new gutters. He gave us a price which served as the basis for our half. We of course were not going to allow him to do the work after he failed to live up to his word. I had him sign a lien release and give me the Preferred Warranty assurance that it had been paid, then took the gutter cost out of the money I paid him which was a total of 13,600 dollars. He also gave me a mitigation form for the homeowners insurance which was part of the contract. It was incomplete and I paid someone else another $75 to complete.

After two months passed and I heard no more about my warranty, I emailed the company and found they had no such warranty in my name. I contacted the owner, Stanley C Leverock, Jr. and was told that they had dropped the warranty because I had not paid for it. It is now February of 2014 and I have been given the runaround with Owens, until finally had it out with them today. Even though they certify these so called Preferred Contractors, if they do not preform, there is no way I can get a preferred warranty . I had read before that Owens gave you the run around and I let that little pink cat and such a nice website lure me in even though I spent hours learning about roofs it did not do me any good .

I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER OWENS CORNING PRODUCT. THEIR CUSTOMER DEPARTMENT ARE INEXPERIENCED PEOPLE TELLING ME THAT I DID NOT HAVE TO HAVE A PREFERRED CONTRACTOR TO DO THE WORK. WHEN I POINTED OUT AND READ FROM THE WARRANTY, HE SAID "OH I WAS TALKING ABOUT THE STANDARD WARRANTY." My shingles are cracked, curling and splitting. The roof was torned completely off when in 1998 these Owens Corning Canyon Red shingles were installed. After filing a claim with Certain teed their response was the following: Shingle have a continual dash sealant pattern, release tape does not match theirs; Shingles are organic. Owens Corning never manufactured this shingle with these characteristics. They gave other manufacturers to call on if it maybe theirs. My contract with the Roofing company does state OC Canyon Red. How can I prove them wrong? I have the lot number from the back of the shingle. Is there a way to track the manufacturer this way? On the back of shingle, it is stamped 09107. Anyone have any ideas?

I have my first replacement roof nearly 25 years ago with the dimensional shingle by Owens Corning. It was a 25 year shingle, but after about 15 years the rock began coming off. It got to the point of seeing more of the asphalt (black) than the color of the shingle. We never noticed any leaking, until we replaced them 2 years ago, and there had been a leak in the valley which had not rotted the wood, but was of unknown duration. I was considering replacing with CertainTeed, but in researching found that they were in the midst of a class action suit as well for premature loss of the colored rock.

My roofer said most of the shingle companies have similar problems so we went back with the Brownwood Dimensional shingle, not sure if it's Duration or Oakridge but so far (only two years) have had not issues. Now I am really confused as I am building a storage building and need about 6 square of shingles for it and don't know which way to go!!

Owens Corning has had to find roof inspectors due to large volume of complaints. As you can see, there is not much prior roofing knowledge required to become an Owens Corning roofing inspector. Now consider all those Preferred and Platinum contractors with Owens Corning, they are likely lacking experience as well. Our roofer installed the OC shingles - not according to the specifications required by the manufacture. The installer was and still is at the Platinum level with Owens Corning... yet they didn't install the product correctly. Owens Corning confirms their platinum contractor did a bad job, yet still keep the contractor in Platinum status. So OC takes no corrective action.

Now I'm worried. After reading these reviews, I am really nervous about getting my true definition shingle put on in the morning. My contractor says they are great shingles; however, I wanted the top of my roof to have the shingle look on top instead of the metal ridge vent and I was told I wouldn't have a warranty if I got the shingle look. My contractor says the filter gets clogged and the roof doesn't breathe. And the plastic ridge that goes over the filter cracks where it is nailed into the roof. He also said, where it is nailed down, it holds water around the nailhead and it eventually rusts and breaks off. He says he will not give me a warranty on that. So I called OC and they said it would be under warranty. I don't want the metal ridge but from what I've read, maybe I should. I've already purchased everything. HELP!!!

Owens Corning Lifetime shingles - As I was getting close to selling my house I decided to invest the extra for quality shingles. I and another roofing contractor Installed the Duration shingles (bought from our closest Lowe's distributor). The very first heavy rain I saw evidence of a leak (I discounted it as the shingles hadn't set yet). Second season, still was leaking and I could not determine exactly where from. Third season, I had the contractor that helped me install the shingles come and figure it out for me. He located the exact cause and reinstalled an area of bad (Defective) shingles. By defective I mean the shingles were porous and moisture was seeping through the actual shingle. He replaced what looked to be the specific amount of bad shingles last year (2013) but I now am having the same leaking problem again so I am wondering if with heavy freezing, moisture is getting into the shingle and causing it to go bad over a period of time.

Anyway I just took it on myself to repair the first damaged area without having to deal with the Brainiac manufacturer (Owens Corning) but now that my roof is still doing the same thing I may have to endure having to deal with them (Lord Help Me). I have never really had much luck or fortune in dealing with these people and if I did it was really not worth it time wise so wish me luck.

Few people understand roof manufacturing from a hands on testing and process solving view like I do. Essentially several OC plants changed their processes to run their production lines at the expense of Quality. Two adjustments to the equipment in particular caused cracking, brittleness and granule loss on most of their products, while testing the product with undertrained workers pressured to not make changes if it caused downtime. I put huge quantities of badly out of spec material on hold to be downgraded, according to UL PROCEDURE. I was roughed up, insulted and then fired.

Our house was purchased 7 years ago for $150,000. It is about 1,000sq ft of basement space. We scoffed at him and then the salesman magically came up with all these discounts, repeatedly asking us to do business right then and there, when I had clearly stated I would not be interested in starting a basement remodel for at least 1-2 years.

Eventually, after my husband and I saying we would do all the demolition and waste removal, floor installation and get our own electrician, and cutting down to half the originally planned space, it would still have cost us $32,000 bucks. The whole thing was a complete waste of our afternoon and a joke. BEWARE!!! As a matter of design choice made by Owens Corning, their duration shingles are shorter than shingles of companies such as CertainTeed. Choosing the shorter design insures that only one row of nails goes through each layer of shingles, compared to the two rows of nails that catch the longer design of the CertainTeed. In 2007, Owens Corning used a layer of what can only be described as cellophane on the self-sealing strip. It is this material that does not seal uniformly across the roof. To their credit, Owens Corning no longer uses this cellophane type material and has replaced it with a material that has the appearance of a fabric. This fabric appears to have the ability to grip the tar and secure the shingles with greater consistency. Yet it is these 2 earlier fatal design flaws insure a high incidence of roof failure. Two design flaws (2 strikes) and a wind speed of more than 30 mph (strike 3) and your roof begins to disintegrate.

At first a few shingles that didn't seal peel off. Then along comes a wind speed of 45 to 60 mph and then an area of 4'x4' square that has bonded together properly is ripped off in one large chunk because the surrounding area that didn't seal offers no protection. When I purchased these shingles, I thought I was doing the right thing because Owens Corning boasted that their guarantee is the longest offered. My question is why do I have to go to such lengths to prove that their product failed? If I can figure out one of the design flaws and my licensed contractor shows me the second design flaw and he also agrees with my assessment of the first flaw. Are we the only two people with enough years of experience to figure this out, or are we the only non-corporate individuals involved with the willingness to face the facts?

We began experiencing roof failure less than 6 months after my licensed contractor did the installation. Anyone that has the shingle design that was manufactured into this shingle in 2007 is headed for a lot of heartache and frustration. If Owens Corning continues to refuse to send out a representative to view the roof and put substance to their advertised guarantee, then I the consumer am forced to take to the internet and airwaves to protect other consumers from making the same mistake. I did not get all that I paid for! It is not my claim that Owens Corning has no system to deal with warranty issues; they do. But all the effort and burden is placed on the consumer, something that I expected I had already paid for when I purchased their product at a significantly higher price.

When I pay a significantly higher purchase price, I expect customer service. Instead I got a set of instructions which I must follow to their exact detail, or my claim will not be processed. Who are they kidding? A significant percentage of consumers will not follow through, and that is just more money in the pocket of Owens Corning. My contractor and I will get a company rep here to examine this roof and the effort they wanted me to spend taking pictures, removing and packaging and shipping. That time will be spent warning potential consumers. I live on a major US Highway that leads from Arkansas to Wisconsin, and I can only tell people who ask me what is wrong with my roof the truth. And as long as this goes unresolved, I will continue to answer their question: What’s the problem with your roof?

I have been in the business for 20 years. I have made a business of fixing others' mistakes. Far too often, shingles are installed during improper conditions, preventing them from sealing. Temperature and high winds are often to blame, and the homeowners are oblivious. Too many companies ignore sensibility for the dollars and would not want their crews waiting for ideal conditions. I have watched immigrant crews work in the rain, snow and high winds, which is ludicrous, but unfortunately all too common. I have not had a problem with any brand of shingle that was not covered by the manufacturer.

Owens, IKO, Certainteed, Atlas, all have replaced roofs for my clients because the roofs were properly vented and installed. I am of the belief that many of these claims have circumstances that created the problems. If a hailstorm beats the shingle but does not destroy it, the shingle has been compromised. It may not be immediate but the granule loss and loosening caused will allow the shingle to weather poorly, and fail much sooner than those that did not suffer the weather. I have seen hundreds of problems. Most are due to improper venting and weather. All this said, there are claims that your manufacturer will honor with simple documentation and the cooperation of your contractor.

They agreed to replace the shingle (Duration) with the same type of shingle. When this was brought to my attention by Excel Roofing, I asked why, especially after he told me that Owens Corning told him that the Duration shingle should not be used on a 4/12 pitch roof. He said it was what they agreed to do, plus pay for his labor. He also mentioned that he was getting the 'new' shingles from the same supplier. I asked why he would do that? He said not to worry, it would be a different batch/lot and he had been using the supplier for some time.

December 18-19, 2010. Five week old roof stripped to underlayment and additional underlayment was installed and then the shingles. The edge stripping was not replaced. After the first rain, I discovered the first leak and reported it to Excel on January 3, 2011.

On January 12th, Excel came out again with an Owens Corning Rep, and they were both 'dumbfounded'. The shingles weren't 'sealing' as they should have in various areas, depending on the angle they were from the sun, or so it appeared. Note that in the 5 weeks between the fiasco of the first roof to the installment of the second, the roof lay unprotected from further rains, except for a piece of tarp that I had in my garage that I offered to Excel to be placed over the area of roof that contained the most damage within the house below.

I have dated documentation of calls to and from, photos, videos and notes to give a detailed timeline of what has transpired this last year- a year filled with stress, aggravation and disbelief that this is even close to acceptable business. My shingles are coming apart where the two layers were put together. It appears they were never bonded to one another. I was wondering if this was a complaint that has been filed by others.

I had an Owens-Corning roof (Oakridge 40 Deep Shadow) with a 40-year warranty installed in August, 1999. The granules started running off immediately, but I assumed it was just because it was new. It is now 10 years later and they are still running off, quite a lot, so I asked about the warranty. I was sent a form and told to take off two shingles and send them in with the forms. I am an old woman of 64. Doing this is out of the question, which means I have to pay someone to do it. I believe these shingles are defective since others are having the same problem. How do I get Owens-Corning to replace my roof at their cost? Replacing the whole roof would cost money that I don't have. The reason I had the 40-year roof put on in the first place was so I would not have to go through this and now I can't afford it.

We had 40-years Owens Corning shingles put on the roof of our house at ** in Jamestown, KY in the fall of 1994. Last year, cracking was noticed. This spring, the roof began to leak. A claim was submitted and denied. The reason given was that our deck was moving. The house is 23 years old and the deck is not moving. Our insurance company is sending an engineer from Donan Engineering to inspect the property. We do not yet know the extent of the damage. When the shingles are removed and the roof is inspected, we will know what has to be replaced. So far we have had our maintenance man remove and send in shingles and try to stop the leaking. There has been some interior damage due to leaking.

I was told by my contractor that was working on a project, adding a bathroom to my upstairs, that it looked as if I had hail damage to my roof when installing the venting through my roof for vent fan and dryer. I had my insurance agent come out to look at the roof. And he determined that it was not hail, but potentially "premature aging" or a manufacturer issue with my shingle. I looked up the age of my roof, in which the shingles were installed in June of 2003. So, it's a 7 year old roof. I was able to find an old bundle of shingles in my shed that were used back 7 years ago to re-roof my house: Owens-Corning Fiberglas Oakridge II Dimensional Shingle Driftwood-M Lot # (available upon request).

I have found out there is a class action lawsuit against Owens for "problems" with this particular shingle and not sure how to proceed. This shingle is suppose to be a 25 year old shingle and it only produced 7 years worth of service. I feel that there was negligence in advertising their product and that they owe me a new roof. We had leaking water running down the chimney and is starting to discolor the drywall in one of our rooms on the ceiling. This premature aging of all the shingles will potentially cost me $6,000 (as estimated by my contractor). I know financial times are tough and I'm not just looking for someone to pay for a new roof. But the roof that I thought would last for an additional 10 year+ (25 year shingle should last at least last 15-20 years) is causing me to shell out money that should be allocated to my families needs, not to a company that sold defective materials, in my opinion.

I had my roof replaced with Owens Corning 30-year roof. Beginning into the second year, I started having issues with the roofing falling off of my home. Loosing granules, cracking, curling and leaks. I continued to have the contractor make repairs each year until I finally felt that Owens Corning should be aware of the defective material. They had me send them some of the material from the roof and then I received a letter basically saying the material was not the problem and gave me every possible excuse there could be. I feel that I should be compensated for the product as well as labor. I already paid for a tear off and now I will need to tear it all off again. Any advise would be appreciated.

Grid on roof starting coming off shortly after moving into house thought is was normal, now after several years roof is starting to leak. Contacted roofer and he tells me that Owens Corning has had problems with there shingles. Everyone that I have read about they give them $2000.00 that won't even begin to replace my roof, it may pay the labor, so I'm starting the paper work. I bet I get $2000.00. I will have to pay for a roof that was bad to begin with and they knew it.

I have Oakridge class a roofing. It is 9 years old. I have a 30 yr warranty. Every roof shingle is cracked. It is 38 squares. I am 80 yrs. old and a recent widow. They told me to go up on the roof and take 2 shingles off and send them to their Toledo office. They also wanted me to get on the roof and take pictures of the shingles. I called the people, Onan roofers and they were kind enough to come and take off the 2 shingles. I sent them to Toledo with the pictures and my warranty.

They sent me a check for $2,162 to cover 30 squares of shingles and labor. This is not fair. Also because they are 9 yrs old they are giving me 67%. The shingles are faulty and this is not my fault. Plus, I have to pay for the tear off and hauling them away. When I looked at the check, it said it must have 2 signatures if it is over $l,000. There is only l signature so my bank will not cash it. Onan roofers said they have had several cases like mine.

Our house was built from 1994-1995 and have Owens Corning asphalt shingles. Approximately 1 1/2 years after our house was built, the shingles began coming off. We notified our home owners insurance company and they said that they could not cover any damages. The shingles have continued to fall off. Last year, we notified our insurance company again and they sent an inspector out to examine the roof.

He stated that the shingles are defective and they no longer sell these type in our area as they are not suitable for our climate. We have had no internal damage that we are aware of yet, but like many other American families, we are struggling financially and are worried about having to pay out of pocket for another roof soon. It should have been repaired or replaced 10 years ago, but we could and still can not afford this expense now. The shingles are 25 years. The end of the warranty keeps approaching.
