Installed Frigidaire heat pump in my new home in 2008. Have since replaced condenser fan motor and 2 evaporators. Paid labor on evaporator. Installs both times. Nortek refuses to cover 3rd warranty evaporator under their 10 year warranty citing that my warranty is not registered on their website. Installer registered warranty in 2008.

Purchased the above unit in 2009. A few months later it didn't make its temp. Installer came and said gas was low so I had to pay for that & labor. In 2013 it did the same thing. I was told the coil was kinked from the factory & finally leaked. Had to pay the labor for that. In 2014 it leaked again and the coil was soldered & refilled. Again, paid for labor & gas. In 2015 it did it again and coil was replaced. Had to pay for labor. Now August 28, 2017 the evaporator has to be replaced. No idea what that will cost. I also got stuck for the increase in electric bills each time to the tune of an extra $50+ from the previous year. DON'T BUY A NORTEK (NORDYNE) PRODUCT. They make a number of brands so it would be wise to check out the manufacturer. FROM NOW ON IT'S CARRIER ALL THE WAY!!! I've called to complain but they won't do anything to compensate me for their extremely inferior product.

We bought our Nordyne/Gibson system spring of 2016. We spent $5000 (which we are still paying the bank for) and have had nothing but problems and currently have a non working system. The valve on the inside unit froze soon after install and Matt, the one who installed the new unit replaced it. Then the whole outside unit went out this spring (2017) and had to be replaced again. Matt did it under warranty but fought with Nortek to get his money and a new unit outside.
Now our valve inside has caused the coils to freeze inside again. Matt said that Nortek knows of the faulty valves and are not doing anything about this. He is not coming back. Called a large company here in Roanoke, Virginia and they said (after a $99 service call) that we are looking at $671 to get the valve fixed and charge the system again. After my wife's cancer, I am the only income. We are stuck. I would gladly add my name to a class action lawsuit if anyone is doing one. They should have to replace all these faulty systems with another brand. My email is **.

Maytag HVAC system purchased 2010 with 12 years parts and labor warranty. They honor the parts replacement part of the warranty. However, they won't reimburse the labor part of the cost of repairs, saying that part is dependent upon the installer to cover. I called original distributor and they are in the middle of a lawsuit against them for labor not reimbursed as promised. He said that Nortek (formerly Nordyne) were reimbursing the labor portion for a while after they purchased Maytag and then just stopped.

Nordyne 3.5 ton central ac & airhandler - We purchased this unit January 2016. We live in southwest Florida. We were told it was a great unit. We didn't start using the air conditioner till the end of May 2016. After 3 months of use the outside unit froze up and started clicking on and off. We called the man who installed it. He came out at in the evening and checked it said it was low on coolant. He charged it up and it worked for another 2 months. The outside unit froze up again. We called the installer again. He came out again and checked it.
Again it was low on coolant, this time he said "There's probably a leak somewhere, the weather is cooling down, this should last till you don't need it till next summer, I'll come out January 1st and pressurize it to find the leak." BINGO there was a leak in the coil. He replaced it. We again started using the unit again at the end of May 2017, July 16 2017 the outside unit froze up and the air handler froze up. Called the installer again he said he would be out Monday. It's just WONDERFUL to sit in a home without air when it's 91 outside with 90% humidity after you purchase a NEW AC unit thinking you can count on it working. NOT!!! I believe it time for a class action suit against NORTEK GLOBAL HVAC.

We've had five service issues with our two Gibson HVAC units in the first four years of use, and have now encountered our sixth service problem. The upstairs unit froze in the winter three times in the first four years, and shut down each time until Nick from Central Heating could fix the problem. The downstairs unit failed twice in the first year, one time due to a sticking valve, and another due to a humidifier issue. Last week, our AC shut down, and we were told that our TX valve needs to be replaced, which is causing the coil to freeze. The estimated the repair, coolant, etc. was $948. (The TX valve will be covered by our parts warranty.)
We called Gibson, but they said they only cover parts, not labor or coolant, and in general seemed like they could care less about our issues. Also, Gibson offers a ten year warranty, but only if you register in the first 60 days. We don't know much about HVAC, but our Carrier AC unit in our prior house required nothing but routine maintenance for 25 years, and our gas heater went 15 years before needing a service call. Buyer beware, in our opinion, don't buy Nortek or Gibson if you're looking for a quality product.

I purchased a Nordyne heating and air system Q5RF-X36K 2/2011. April 16, 2017 unit was completely shot and they advised I would have to have the whole unit replaced and was told promptly after that that it was on backorder. I have waited almost a month without a system and I called into their customer service and the treatment I received there was about as insulting as having to replace a 6 yr old unit that they on BACKORDER. I called b/c not only had I waited over 3 weeks to get a unit I was told it would cost me 1042.00 and Nordyne would only give 250.00 credit towards the install so leaving me 792.00 out of my pocket for a unit that clearing a piece of junk.
I asked if there was something they could do b/c I felt this was unfair that I would have to incur this cost with such a new unit and they told me I had to negotiate with the company putting it in? Why they didn't make it you did. I asked to speak with a supervisor and they told me they had no one on duty? What? No managers?? I advised I would kindly wait till someone arrived and they would not hold one and transferred me to a voice mail that says they will get back with me in 2 business days. I called back. Now mind you I am not being rude I just insisted that I speak to a manager to which the lady hung up on me... I will NEVER recommend this company to anyone.

I purchased a 4 ton Nordyne Gas packaged Unit that is still brand new as home has not been occupied yet. After the fact found out unit was installed without permit and in the newly categorized flood zone. City required unit to be moved out of flood zone or 10 feet above ground. In the process of getting quotes for the move, it was determined by a second company that unit is inappropriate for property. Not enough vents to function for heating or cooling. Unit cannot perform cooling on 2nd floor, will instead shut down before desired temperature is reached. E & H Mechanical, the firm who selected and recommended System and installed refuse to offer any solution.

I purchased a 3.5 ton Gibson heat pump in Oct. 2015. Since the install we have had 3 problems that turned into major problems. In May 2016 there was a leak in the evaporator coil. Called the company, got the coil covered but not the labor and r22 recharge ($1200). Then August 2016 a problem with several relays which wasn't a big deal only a small part and labor charge ($120). So here's the big one, 2 weeks ago the unit stopped producing heat so I had the contractor who did the install take a look, THE COMPRESSOR TOTALLY WENT! So after talking to the company they offer a replacement compressor but won't cover the r22 recharge again! Or the labor! So I got the bill for $900 recharge and $250 labor. I will most certainly be getting a lawyer. This company is a joke and I wouldn't recommend them too anyway.

Westinghouse/Nordyne heat pump was installed in our new house in 2010. Unit froze up in summer of 2016. Tech checked unit and said most of the refrigerant had leaked out because of leaks in the evaporator coil. I registered this unit for the 10 year extended warranty at time of installation. Nordyne said they had no record of the registration and unit was out of warranty. It is now December of 2016 and still have not got unit fixed. Very unhappy consumer!

Now that I have read reviews, I have to agree, Nordyne units are a piece of junk. Had mine replaced today. Unit is approx. 6 yrs. old. Had many problems with old unit. New coil, freon problem, then the heat exchanger went. Paying all the labor costs should have been absorbed by Nordyne. Then it was replaced today (another Nordyne) with more labor costs. Now I have to live with this one waiting for the first problem. Scares me. When will they learn to make a decent unit that lasts.

The big weakness in even their high-end junk is the evaporator coil problem that will apparently never be fixed. Their distributors in our area don't want to carry parts, so everything is out 2 weeks. Do not buy this stuff. Any manufacturer is better than these clowns.

He was told that the parts would not be available until end of January 2017. That is 3 months from now. Being in SW FLorida it's hot here all year round and today the temps will reach 87. SO...here I sit with no AC until January! The unit was $12000 and I will never purchase another. As a matter of fact I may have it pulled out and sell on Craigslist. I am so pissed off. Don't buy! I suggest something that you can easily and quickly repair. These units are direct wire to thermostat, so you can't just buy any old thermostat to run them. Cannot recommend.

Oh my God, this is the WORST customer service experience I have ever had and I'm not a young guy. I'm technically competent and I can't imagine anyone placing a product like this in the market. Just a few highlights: Tech Support will only speak to a "Certified" Nordyne dealer tech. Closest one to my house is 50 miles and wants $250 to pull in driveway. His exact words were, "Those things are terrible to work on and we could be there all day at $145/hr (above the original $250) and still not solve the problem". Several competent service organizations close by but can't get info from tech support.
No dealers will take the training to get certified so no dealers can help you if anything goes wrong. System is nowhere NEAR as efficient as they say it is. System is nowhere NEAR as quiet as they say it is. System only works properly on occasion and is incredibly temperamental. System is now not working and support will not speak to my regular heating and air guy. Nordyne will ignore you completely if you inadvertently forgot (3 years ago) to go online and register every component of the system. Poorly designed. Poorly supported. JUNK JUNK JUNK!

I moved into my brand new house just three years ago and a brand new Nordyne unit was installed. The AC quit running a month ago. I called the AC company that put it in and they came out and checked it out and said the compressor was bad and it would be covered under warranty but not the labor. I've called the AC company over and over and they said that Nordyne still has not shipped the part. In the meantime, I called my brother-in-law who is in the AC business and explained to him what was going on and he came out and checked the unit and called Nordyne and he said that they don't replace the part but would replace the unit. However, they are having a hard time getting Nordyne to send a replacement unit. In the meantime, I can't even live in my home because it is too hot as I live in Florida and it started in August. I am a widow and do not have the money to replace the whole thing and feel that I have absolutely no recourse.

Purchase a brand new manufactured home in 2014 that came with a Nordyne AC unit. Unit has been worked on twice this year (2016), with the third service call determining that the coil would have to be replaced. After 30 minutes on hold to speak with Nordyne regarding warranty, we were told that only warranty their product for one year. And that the dealership that is proclaiming five year warranty is lying. When asked if they were going to provide any assistance with a two-year old unit that now has to be replaced, I was simply told no. They said that it was my problem and that they provide one year and one year only. Their customer service is severely lacking and the representatives I spoke to were extremely rude and unprofessional. If anyone is looking to purchase a home or manufactured home that will have a Nordyne (Nortech) AC system, run the other or demand a better system.

I gave this a 1 star rating because there wasn't an option for a negative star rating. My wife and I built a new home and father's day 2013 we finished it and moved in. We installed a 5-Ton Nordyne central air system in the house. The air handler / inside unit has been nothing but problems since it was installed. In three years we have had to replace the Coil assembly, blower motor, motor control board and the circuit board. All of the parts were covered under the warranty. However I have spent over $2000.00 in service calls and labor having parts replaced. Now after all of this the unit has started leaking Freon gas again which means I am about to be spending more on repairs. I will be doing a cheap patch on it and hope it will last until I can have a new system installed to be rid of this piece of junk. The unit that was put in for my heat pump is T5BD-048K series 4 ton heat pump. It was installed as a new unit November 11, 2014. It has not been efficient since installed. The first summer with this unit was 2015 and it could not keep our home cool (74 degrees). Now in our second summer it started freezing up and not functioning at all. So 19 1/2 months is all we got out of this piece of crap.
I am very disappointed in the AC businessman who installed it as he told us it was a unit comparable to Rheem. We got done over and we are very unhappy with Nordyne and Mr. Gary **. The unit is leaking coolant and we have been told it will be a better financial decision to replace it, as the labor charges will be extensive. When I discovered that numerous customers have had the same problem, I am now infuriated that a company is being allowed to rip off people who buy their product. I am looking for some help to cover my financial losses from Nordyne selling inferior products that they know do not last (in my case 19 months).

I purchased a home with a Maytag HVAC system, and my home inspector said that the unit was a newer unit, and it should last for a while. The unit broke down last month and was diagnosed that it has a Freon leak and needed to replace the coil. I called the warranty since it is about 8 years old, but they said there is no warranty left because the previous owner didn't register. I think it is funny. If the unit was purchased and installed by a contractor it should be under warranty. The company knows when the unit was made and purchased. It is like a trick because most of people don't. They should stand behind their products...
I have to pay a lot of money to buy a coil and put it in, and guess what... another leak then another leak... then another leak from different parts. My technician said that it is leaked at the weird places, where there should not be any stress. Everyone came out and had the same conclusion, this company was not good... they won't cover a lot of things and the unit should be replaced. Can you imagine that you have to change a system after 8 years.

We installed a Maytag dual stage heating system with an 18 Seer AC unit in July 2014. The coil has been replaced three times (2 times in 2015 and 1 time in 2016). It works for a few months, but the next year must be replaced because it leaks (thin copper used). We have heard every excuse in the book, but the company refuses to pay for the installs. Yes, they provide another defective coil every year under the "warranty", but we have to pay $550 for new Freon and installation. I don't expect to have to put a new motor in my car every year and I don't expect to put a new coil in my unit every year. The consumer got scammed on this deal, since they were well aware of the problem with the 18 Seer anteater copper coil long before 2014. I understand from others there is a class action lawsuit pending about this issue.

We installed an Intertherm high-efficiency furnace in our Modular home in the Fall of 2014. Before Spring 2015 the aluminum heat exchanger burned out releasing carbon monoxide into the heat ducts and tripping the temperature high limit. The next Fall our plumber was given a new heat exchanger and installed it. He also ascertained that the fan speed was set to maximum and told us to not use any very restrictive filters like 3M microfiber or similar makes. Before the Spring of 2016 the 2nd heat exchanger burned out. We do not want another Intertherm furnace or any other make with an aluminum heat exchanger. We will probably replace with an 85% furnace with a steel heat exchanger.
In another home in about 1988 I installed a Comfort Maker High-efficiency furnace with a steel exchanger and it's still in use today. I recommend avoiding any furnace with an aluminum alloy exchanger. If you have one, a clue to a defective heat exchanger releasing carbon monoxide into your heat ducts is the second time the high limit trips.

They are a terrible organization to deal with. They offer a "12-year warranty." However, if the warranty does not follow the equipment, if the house is sold and the first owner does not remember to physically call and transfer the warranty (may even have to be in writing as that was a sketchy explanation at best), the warranty is voided to 5 years. So, we bought a new home two months ago. In the middle of a 35-inch snowstorm, the unit went down. We call a tech to come out who then tells us that our warranty is voided because the original owner didn't re-register the product warranty. We call Nordyne (Maytag) and they refer us to a subsection of the warranty which indicates that the last 7 years no longer count. $2,000 later, we are taken advantage of again. By the way, the unit was less than 6 years old. Poor quality parts supported by poor quality warranties and by poor quality customer service. AWFUL! !

We bought our first heat pump in May 2014. Ten months later it was broke. Nordyne would not give us a new heat pump. They said it would have to tore apart and rebuilt. Also, said we did not fill out warranty, which my husband did online. I believe they deleted it because there were other people with similar complaints about warranty. Also, went through 3 TXV valves and found out the valves are faulty and the company knows that but does nothing to fix them That was reported by one of their HAVC techs.
Then had to rebuild the attic air handler and install a new coil and TXV valve, so we could have air conditioning this summer. Turn heat on in October and 6 weeks later the SECOND outdoor heat pump unit in less than 2 years will not defrost. We are running on emergency heat again! Not to mention frustration, loss of wages to take off for tech to fix it and high labor costs over $1000, and high electric bills! Very very frustrating. We want our money back so we can buy a system that works. Every time the temperature changes the heat and cooling system breaks. I have a 5 ton unit that we purchased just 3 years ago, and it has stopped working. We've learned that the coil has to be replaced. Although the materials are apparently covered by warranty (we'll see how the company responds to this), the labor cost of over $1,500 is not! Furthermore, the replacement part is not readily available and has to be ordered from the manufacturer... A 2-3 week wait time while outside temperatures are in the high 80's to 90's! So that means that we also have to pay for a temporary HVAC while we wait... Another cost that is not covered by Nordyne. The HVAC repair persons whom I have consulted about this problem have told me that this manufacturer is considered in the industry as having one of the poorest reputations for quality, and now I believe it. There is no excuse for a unit that cost this much and is only 3 years old, to fail so miserably. I'll never buy another Nordyne product.

Purchased a Gibson heat pump in early 2012 after being sweet talked by the local heating guy in the area. Worked for 3 years and now the line freezes going into my house and will not cool below 72 degrees. The unit will not heat above 68 degrees. We keep it on 70 all year around and turn it off when the temperature is reasonable outside. Had it serviced annually and always cleaned the filters on it. The company who sold me the unit came out for six hours and could not fix the problem, but I was charged a hefty sum for the labor. Now, the local heating company does not return my calls after weeks of promising to "schedule me in".
I work in sales and customer service and understand the importance of treating customers with respect and dignity. I realize they work hard for their money and when a problem arises, I show them appreciation and timely service. Sometimes, our company eats the cost because it is the right thing to do for the consumer. Not Nordyne! Mary in the warranty department pretty much said there was no recourse for me, but I could be transferred to an automated list of independent service providers to look at my system or call the distributor of this unit. Talk about passing the buck! I will be planning a course of action to resolve this issue. If anyone has any suggestions that they got resolution from, please let me know.

Fast forward to spring of '14, unit stopped working. I called the installer who came to my house, stated that the compressor was shot, but should be under warranty. After 4 more service calls, they (Nordyne?) were satisfied it was the compressor and not my line set leaking and sent a new one to be installed. I was charged over $600 in labor and Freon. Fast forward again to August '15, I notice ice on line set coming into house. Call the installer. He comes out and recharged Freon. 2 weeks later, same ice on line set. Installer comes out. Coil inside is leaking. Installer said Nordyne had problems with this and retooled their crimp on the coil. New coil installed. Bill comes for service call, $425. We purchased a new Modular home almost five years ago, it has a Nordyne A/C unit. It has had part failures and leaks almost from day one. We had to have the condenser coil replaced the second year, the blower replaced the next year and the big fan on top replaced last year. Now we are having to have the condenser coil replaced again. If this were a car, the lemon law would have kicked in. I would not recommend a Nordyne unit for anyone. My repairman told me that I had two choices yesterday, either replace the coil, or buy a new unit. If I could afford it, I would purchase a new, different brand of A/C. As it is, I have two months left on my five year warranty, so I will have the coil replaced.

I purchased a remodeled townhome in 2011. The A/C unit by Nordyne was already installed shortly before I purchased the townhome. It worked okay until December 2013/January 2014, when it stopped heating properly in the winter and cooling for the first time. My winter electric bill was well over $200 each month. I contacted a tech to come out and do a diagnostic. He found that the condenser had a leak in an unusual spot. It was still under the 5 year parts warranty and part itself was replaced. Unit worked fine again until end of July 2015 (exactly about one year later).
Now the issue is a leak in the inside unit's coil. Parts are now out of warranty, and the tech said either repair second major issue with the same unit or purchase a whole entire new unit (another brand was recommended) since there is no guarantee that within another few months to a year that another major issue will occur with this same unit. Next time around definitely choosing a more reliable brand like Trane or Carrier. Don't have time to deal with this inconvenience annually in 90+ degree weather.

It is our main residence. Our repairman ordered the part and has been charged for it. He has never received it. This company replied with an automated response to our warranty claim, which is a joke for customer service. One day we have warranty and the next day we don't. First, I have read many reviews from people on this website that are consistent with what we are experiencing. We bought an Intertherm furnace with a Century Heat Controller 10 Seer 2 1/2 ton condenser as a replacement for our Coleman furnace in our 1987 mobile home. This was in Feb.2005. We hired Davison Heating and Cooling to do the work. This was the unit they recommended. This unit has malfunctioned every year since we bought it - leaks and dirt in the new coil. Leaks every year after. The blower is so noisy you can't hear the TV. I tried to get Davison H&C to replace it without success. I get mad just talking about it. We gave up trying to get what we paid for.
We are on the appliance plan with Consumers Energy and they will recharge the system with up to 10 lbs. of freon yearly so we get by with that. I guess we will have to replace the blower out of our own pocket. I was looking for the proper filters for the unit got the Nordyne name on the blower. So I got on the web looking for Nordyne and this site was listed with them. To make a long story short, I have never been so unhappy with anything else like this. We have all our receipts for all the hell we have been through with this junk. I would welcome a class action lawsuit. What I can't understand is how Nordyne can still be in business.

Warranty does not transfer with Nordyne unit. The company must not have enough confidence in their product. A company should consider long term customers and apparently this company does not. So when I have to replace my unit I would not choose this company. There are a lot of bad reviews already on the product. So buyers beware. A major purchase should have a transferable warranty. It was a selling feature when I made my purchase of home in 2014, that AC unit was 2012. Yes the unit is currently broke. 10 years in their product should mean 10 years, no matter who owns it. It is not anything for free, it is a fair and honest representation of your company and product. Anyone have any recommendations for a better company and product for AC. Thanks.

When I called Nordyne to check into the warranty, I was told I only had a one-year warranty on parts and five-year on the compressor. I could believe that a manufacturer would only offer a 1-year warranty. I have seen other and better know manufactures offer a 5-year warranty on parts and 10 on the compressor. And if that not bad enough, gas heater went out in Feb. We have been lied to by every person we talk to at Nordyne and also RE Michaels who sold unit to our contractor. I will not buy any product from either company and recommend no one buy any of their products. If you're looking to buy a new home that would be first question I would ask and if that builder has their product in their homes I would run as fast as you can from them. I am disabled...have nerve damage from mid-back to both feet. Their response was, "Not our problem. We are not giving you new unit." They want to piecemeal it back together. And unit not one year old yet and been broken down 3 times plus 1 for heat.
That company should be investigated by government. They should not be allowed to sell junk like this. I overheard district person tell tech they knew this and around 10,000 units were affected but they still put them in boxes and sold them, knowing people were going to have trouble with these units. The following spring I had the same problem but was initially told it was no longer under warranty. After I contacted the company who installed the system, Oakwood had another unit installed. Since the new unit was installed, I have still had problems with the unit freezing over and have had to pay people to come and look for leaks and add coolant.
Last year I contacted Oakwood again and explained that I was still having problems with the unit and they told me I had to contact the manufacturer to see if any part of the unit was still under the manufacturer's warranty. Nordyne explained that only the compressor would still be under warranty (5 years). I didn't get it fixed last summer but have been trying to get the problem taken care of this year. In the 4th year I was told it needed a Freon recharge for the 3rd time and that the A-coil was rusted and leaking in multiple places. The A-coil was covered by the warranty and I again had to pay for all the labor and Freon. Now in the 5th year and 5th month it has failed again. I have been told by a technician that the compressor is garbage now. When I contacted Nordyne to replace it and to replace the entire unit as their warranty assures that they will, they have refused. They stated that because I did not purchase the unit and register it that they would not cover any of this.
They state on their website if a major component fails that they will replace the entire unit for 10 years but now they are saying since I didn't purchase it directly (the builder did) and that because he didn't register it that they will do nothing. They even tried to sell me another one of their units! Of course after reading online I see that all they do is manufacture garbage units made to last 1-4 years and they almost never honor their warranty.
DO NOT BUY NORDYNE. This unit has cost me over $3,000 in repairs and now I have to scrap it to get a quality unit with a quality company that backs their products. Save yourself thousands and buy from a respectable company. If Nordyne happens to do the proper thing and take care of their consumers I will be more than happy to recant my statements about their poor customer service but I don't see that happening considering I have spoken with multiple customer service representatives who have told me to just buy a new unit.

Every 4-6 months from the time I moved into my new home, the unit has failed to cool or heat. The coils continually freeze up. The first 2 years technicians came out and added Freon repeatedly. This is a sealed unit and should not have lost Freon. The 3rd year, some part was replaced, I can't remember now what, yet the problem continued.
In June of 2014, a technician indicated that my evaporator coil had a leak. The coil was replaced at a cost of roughly $2,000, plus 3 service calls at $100 each. When I contacted Nordyne to file a claim, I was told the coil was only a 1 year warranty, that only my outdoor unit was covered, nothing inside the house. What a crock!?
The technician who replaced the coil was told by Nordyne that it was only covered for 5 years. This was year 6. I was told it was only covered for 1 year. I have a warranty in my possession for 10 years both parts and labor. The unit was installed as one collective system and was registered for 10 years parts and labor. When I contacted the company that built the home and installed the unit, they said they had never heard of such. In December of this last year, the unit failed again.
This time the technician indicated that a service valve was the problem and that it was a problem since the unit was installed. He replaced the service valve - Those service calls cost another $400. Today, the unit is failing yet again. I am now awaiting a technician for the 15th time in 7 years. Nordyne has assisted with one part - the service valve and the rest of the $600-$1000 per year in service calls, Freon, and the coil have been on my shoulders to cover. I went to clean the filters when I discovered that the A-coil was a solid block of ice! The contractor who installed it came out and added coolant to the unit. It worked fine for the remainder of the a/c season. Spring of 2013, and guess what? The A-coil started to freeze up again. Contractor who installed the unit refused to come out and check the unit. Called another company to come and check it out. They found a leak (no big surprise). Nordyne only warranties the coils for 1 year (because maybe they know the coils are junk and will leak, just saying). Anyway a long story short, have to keep adding coolant due to all of the leaks (had another contractor do a leak check and he found one on the unit in the house along with the one outside).
And of course Nordyne will not replace the unit because we called another contractor to check it. I called a local heating and air company and they decided I needed a "Flame probe" and $200.00 later they left. Next day the same issue and they could not get back to me for about 3 days. I called another local heating and air company and they decided I needed a new "integrated control assembly" a 4 day wait for the part (I paid $50.00 extra for quick delivery ) and the next day the same issue. I was just out a total of $400.00 to this company (plus $200.00 to the first company).
I had given up on the local companies both of which told me I needed a new furnace. I took the front off of the box holding the burners and removed the 6 nozzles and made sure they were clean. I then blew the rest of the combustion chamber out with an air compressor --- seemed to have spider webs between some of the burners.
It has been a week now, seems the furnace is fixed! I called both companies and wanted to know why they did not clean the combustion chamber --- The answer from both was they were there to repair not to clean! If anyone needs a flame probe or an integrated control assembly I feel both the units taken off are good and I will give them to anyone in need! I feel my Nordyne furnace will continue to function for years to come --- I need to find a good local company to clean/inspect and not just change parts!

The unit was under the 1 year quality pledge warranty which states if the compressor fails Nordyne will replace the entire outdoor unit, and even though the compressor components caused the problem Nordyne said this does not qualify for replacement. Instead they paid me to install a treatment product called Re-new. This seemed to work at first.
It has been a little over 2 months and RESTRICTIONS ARE BACK! Nordyne now says the quality assurance time frame has expired and my compressor was not in the serial numbers Copeland gave them as possibly having the problem in the first place. The BEST PART was they told me if I want to replace the unit I should take it up with the dealer even though it is a manufacturer's warranty. Like an idiot I switched to the Air temp brand thinking I could offer a more affordable system and what I found was an inferior product and a company that will NOT STAND BEHIND ITS PRODUCT OR WARRANTY. I also look like a bum to my customer for selling them this crap. To my fellow contractors and consumers, buyer beware with Nordyne products. I purchased 2 new Maytag (3 & 4 ton) heat pump systems for office condo in 2004 with a 10-yr warranty. In yr 9, the 3-ton unit required compressor & electrical control panel parts replacement. Replacement took >4 mos due to bureaucratic maze relating to Maytag warranty provisions bankruptcy experienced by installing contractor, one of my Maytag units caught in such status.
Unit functioned for ~8 months, but began frosting over with cold weather. Repeated attempts by contractor has failed to solve problem for >6 wks. Independent contractor engaged to provide diagnosis/recommendation. This contractor found refrigerant oil “everywhere” in unit, suggesting replacement contractor has been “spinning wheels”. New contractor suggested replacement of outside unit, rather than continue with its multiple ailments.
At purchase in 2004, the 2 units were represented to be “top of the line”. Based on above experience, I will never buy Maytag brand again, despite fact that sister unit has functioned without issue for >10 yrs.

I have installed/helped install four (4) Nordyne systems. I installed a system for my mother-in-law in 2006, 80% 72,000 btu upflow and 24,000 14 seer ac with a cased coil. The ONLY problem was with the hot surface ignition glow plug, 2 months ago in October 2014. The main reason I put this furnace and ac system in my Mother-in-law's house is I wanted zero problems with it, so far so good.
The second system is in my house 90% + furnace with 16 seer R22 ac with a cased coil installed in 2008 with a complete duct system. NO PROBLEMS and heating and ac bills lowered about 45%. The third system replaced a 1968 system for a neighbor, 90% + counterflow furnace and 16 seer 410 refrigerant system with a cased coil. System costs considerably lower.
The fourth system was installed for my brother-in-law in mid November - 80%, 72,000 btu upflow and a 16 seer 410 refrigerant, cased coil and condenser. Better heat lower costs. Please understand I am a retired refrigeration/pipe fitter and I use and recommend what I know works well and has an enforceable warranty, along with an affordable price.

As a result of this review, I was contacted by Nordyne yesterday by phone. I spoke to a lady that did everything possible to resolve our issue with the heater. She got a repairman out here today and my heater is now fixed.
The first lady I talked to and issued the complaint about was an awful person with the wrong career. I based my original opinion of Nordyne off of my experience with her.
The lady that has helped me these past two days was very nice and very helpful. She resolved my issue with no problems. I am very thankful for her.
My original star-rating for Nordyne was 1 star, but now I give them 4 stars.

Furnace Model #: E3EB-015H, 017H. We purchased a mobile home earlier this year. Our outdoor unit was installed in June along with the coils that go inside around the indoor part of the unit. We are in West Texas so when our air came on we were thrilled. We never thought to check the heater until it started getting cold. Like I said, the air is perfect, but when you cut the heat on there is no heat blowing out. On the Auto setting on heat nothing happens, and on the Fan setting only cool air blows out.
We called the mobile home manufacturer and they sent a contractor out to look at it. He checked every wire in the furnace. Everyone was getting power and none were loose. He replaced the thermostat and we still had no luck. So he gave me the number to the manufacturer since everything is still under warranty. I called their customer service department and spoke to Stephanie. She told me they, Nordyne (the manufacturer), could not do anything. She said they do not send people out to diagnose problems with their equipment. Whoever looks or looked at the furnace would need to find out what the problem is because "that is their job". If the contractor cannot diagnose the problem, then they will need to call Nordyne technical support and go through some troubleshooting steps to see if they can figure out the faulty part. If that does not work, then there is nothing Nordyne can (or will) do.
She said the warranty will only cover parts, not the entire furnace. So I asked her if the furnace turned out to be a lemon, what can be done? Instead of answering, she had the nerve to explain to me that the lemon law only covers vehicles and so on. Her nerve caught me off-guard for a minute before I cut her off and told her I know what the lemon law covers and I'm not stupid. I told her it is a lemon if it's a dud and I know that it is not covered under a lemon law. I told her I was trying to ask what Nordyne will do if the furnace is a dud, or lemon, if it is still under warranty. Summed up, the answer is nothing. I told her how unhelpful she was before she hung up in silence.
A never-before-used, brand-new furnace will not work and is under warranty, but the manufacturer expects you to pay out-of-pocket just because they don't want to be expected to replace their own faulty equipment. Hopefully, by some miracle, tech support will be more helpful with my contractor than customer service was with me. That woman was condescending and rude. She would take short pauses after every two words and if I contradicted her she would sigh before literally explaining what she said again like I couldn't comprehend. The only things I couldn't comprehend was why Nordyne wouldn't replace the furnace if it was determined the whole thing was a dud and still under warranty, and why she wouldn't answer my questions.
I just assume Nordyne won't replace a dud furnace because she never told me otherwise. She just kept repeating that the service technician will need to call Nordyne technical support and the warranty only covers parts. She has the wrong career. Even if they do determine the faulty parts, we will still have to pay out of pocket for someone to switch the parts out because the mobile home manufacturer is not liable for it. They did their job and then some so thank you Champion Homes for that. It's Nordyne that is the problem. Long story short, if Nordyne touched it, run the other way. Buyers beware!

Moved to FL and knew I needed a good AC system due to health requirements - Asthma so need to keep temperature around 71 to breathe easily. A supposed reputable installer recommended a Nordyne SR 14 split system heat pump/AC. Have had it just about 1 1/2 months and began having problem a month ago. Soon as we had some cool nights -68 degrees, my AC began to freeze up. It is 68 outside, but maybe 74 or 75 inside. Also, when it froze in garage near air handler, liquid was dripping out of copper pipe next to furnace.
Dealer came here today and first explained that I could not keep it colder inside than outside or it would freeze up. Are you kidding me? I put in new everything, including main ducts and returns and my unit can't be run if it’s lower than 70 outside? Why wasn't I told this BEFORE I purchased it? Well, long story short, he said we needed to put in another cold air return because the one he put in was not big enough for unit. We put another one in today and after 6 hrs and $80.00, air handler hasn't stopped running at 71 degrees for hours, and it has once again iced up. It was 71 degrees outside when it began to ice up. This is ludicrous. I have had many AC over a lifetime and never had an issue like this. EVER! But then, I had never dealt with Nordyne.
My partner had told me he researched this product before we bought it. I guess not nearly well enough as I found this site after one try. Only sorry that I didn't look myself. Too late now. The Nordyne Co. puts about 10 -12 different names on HVAC (air conditioner units) equipment that they manufacture. Maytag, Westinghouse, Frigidaire, Gibson, Kelvinator to mention just a few. These names are licensed by Nordyne. A few of the above mentioned names are all once trusted names for QUALITY products. Most all of the Nordyne ac units have pretty much the same parts in them. So when a homeowner is shopping for a new central air conditioning system, they see Maytag or Westinghouse, they think of the Maytag repairman commercials. Wow this must be a good unit. Please don't be fooled by this.
The unit is no more a Maytag than my big toe is. I work for a Wholesale co that sells these units. (Not proud of it.) I've been selling these for over 10 years now. We also sell another brand that's not a Nordyne product. I process all the warranties for the Nordyne units, and there are a lot of them. Leaking Evaporator coils lead the pack. When you buy a new ac system, most of them come with a ten year warranty. Usually the contractor that installs the system will cover the labor on a warranty repair for the first year. After that, you are on the hook for his labor. And it can be costly. These "licensed" contractors have overhead and have to take classes every so often to keep their license up with the state in which they work. So don't take it all out on these guys. They don't make the equipment. You have to make sure the installation was done correctly. That the correct size copper lines were used and all the duct work was sized correctly (the return air and supply air ducting).
All this being said, and after talking with other employees from different companies that sell other brands, there is no one maker of ac systems that is better than another anymore. In my opinion, they all suck. They have all cheaped down there units. Most of the parts and most of the manufacturing is done in Mexico or Asia. I've seen some Rheem units out there 25 to 30 years old still running. That's a thing of the past, as I have read many horror stories on here of new or nearly new units falling apart. It's a crap shoot out there. I hope some of my rambling information will save somebody some time and $$$. Stay cool!!!

I bought a brand new Frigidaire Central HVAC system in April so that I would have no issues with my HVAC this summer. Unfortunately that did not work as the unit started to leak freon. At first the installer thought he did something wrong, checked all of his work, refilled the system at his own expense. Finally last week he checked the last part that no one would assume would go bad - the coil. There it was a crack in a tube going to the line. Thought this would be an easy issue, replace the unit under warranty. We thought wrong. No exchange, I had to pay for the part first before I could even have it shipped. The worst part is that it takes 10 days for the part to arrive. Meanwhile I had to install a used loaner unit at my expense. Frigidaire only reimburses the installer a flat fee of $250.00 for all their trouble and the consumer picks up the rest of the tab. Worst warranty policy I have ever seen on any product less than 4 months old.

We have a Nordyne heat pump a-coil over air handler. We noticed that we had water pouring out of the unit. The water was flowing directly from the coils into the lower part of the unit, flooding the air handler and saturating the flooring and subflooring in 4 adjacent rooms, the ductwork and crossover. This was occurring inside the unit, so we initially did not know that there was a problem. The air handler is ruined, the subflooring and flooring as well as sheetrock, trim, etc. is mold covered. We have been suffering from upper respiratory illnesses due to mold exposure, and a quick internet search revealed that this is apparently a common problem with units manufactured by Nordyne. I had to pay for labor and refrigerant which was expensive. This past winter, the unit stopped heating which required a service call. I was told a burner jet was clogged preventing the other jets from igniting. Today, August 22, 2014, I had to have another faulty expansion valve replaced. Again the valve was covered under warranty, and again I had to foot the labor and refrigerant expenses. Any windy night or temperature drop to sub zero (when you need a reliable furnace, right?) we would wake up with no heat until the cabinet was opened up and the pressure switch fault was cleared. All of the plugs in the cabinet had to be removed just to let in enough room air for the thing to work 85% of the time. Then the first motor failure 2 years in. Then the second failure 4 years in. This time, tech support required that my contractor install a new board first (against his diagnosis). They sent the wrong new board (another wasted site visit). Then the new motor was very noisy. Tech then told us that we definitely needed dual return (never mentioned in the installation specifications).
Also, they recommended disabling high fire. Makes sense for a sophisticated piece of HVAC equipment, right? Then a new motor (with the old board nonetheless). This motor groans on start-up every time. It will likely fail within the next year or so. My daughter's AC stopped cooling and I repaired a leak at an inline filter/dryer, replaced a leaking valve core, and could not pull a satisfactory vacuum. I shot in a little Freon and found a leak at the accumulator in the heat pump condenser. Given 95-degree weather, I filled the unit to subcooling specs. Then I contacted Nordyne to explain that my daughter's 16-seer heat pump, 4 years old, had a defective accumulator because there was no indication of external corrosion and I asked them if they would send a repairman. However, they ran me through the grid saying I would have to pay a distributor/repairman to come out and check the unit ($250 to $400 for SC and leak detection) and he would notify them. IF it was defective they would provide the part to him and we would pay for the exchange (another $450 to $800).
I told them my background, and asked them to provide me with the part and I would do the work. They refused and said it had to be their way. These people know they have a problem but customer service is of no concern to Nordyne... Just don't care. 4-year-old units do not rust out inside under normal conditions and my daughter's condenser was so clean and totally free of debris inside and out, rust was not possible!!! Purchased in 2009 2 stage 80KBTU Up flow Furnace and true 3 ton 16 SEER AC system. I will say the heat side has worked as I expected it to every year, only having to clean up the flame sensor. Basic maintenance just like changing the air filter. Original coil lasted two seasons, 2012 temp freon charge, new X37 coil, and I specify the coil since to get all the rebates it had to pass AHRI and the CBAX37 was the only one in 09 that passed. So late 2012 the new anteater zinc alloy will provide better protection for 16 and 24 SEER units, says Nordyne. BTW the replacement was not the new Anteater technology, so just another basic leaky X37 coil, that fails in 2013. I have to say the contractor is trying, but the contractors are stuck in the middle. Nordyne was late to the party with the micro channel which Trane had.
My neighbor has a 15 SEER installed the same amount of time with zero issues. Instead of complaining we have to take some action. I have had some success in discussing the leaky coil with Nordyne product people via email; however, they provide some information, take no responsibility and attempt to say it was the setup or your house's environment. Funny, that my old R22 Lennox lasted 19 years and only one freon charge in its 18th year. Nordyne in my opinion talks about formicary corrosion from the cause and effect, without taking any responsibility for leaky coils and copper design. Their own PDF write ups go into grave detail and how the micro channel is the solution to this problem, but again disregard any R410 system before the press releases of the new Anteater zinc alloy and Anteater Micro channel.
You have to read everything carefully to figure out which lines get which technology. Anyone understand why your line sets had to be swapped out, thicker walls to handle the increased pressure. I feel Nordyne is changing the story line on formicary, but how do you explain now they are shipping all aluminum coil outside units and I as I understand it, all but 16 SEER and up are MC for the evaporator coils. 16 SEER 3 ton and up are Anteater zinc protected coils only. My contractor doesn't know what I know about all of this and I am frankly tired of doing all the heavy lifting.
The product person said they have data on the Zinc alloy coil, but not for public consumption. Everyone take the time and go look at a Trane condensing/evaporator coils and you will see the difference, they don't leak. My coil leaks are not at the joints, so please don't use that excuse. That is why now Nordyne is upgrading their AC offerings, but at the cost of the early adopters. The new outside units are smaller and take less freon. Wow, great, but what about the leaky coils and annual freon recharge, not to mention all the frustration? Make yourself heard. Do as I am doing right now. Contact your local BBB and business groups that will listen, local news stations because unless Nordyne gets exposed, you are wasting time. Oh I forgot the strategy that may cost you a couple of bucks, get a lawyer and draft a letter and send it to Nordyne, your contractor, and share with the news and public.
I know more about the formicary issue than I really care about. I was sold on the equipment that it was as stable as Trane, but 5 years later, I have invoices for defective coils to prove otherwise. GM got sued 35M for withholding information about defective ignition switches. Why should Nordyne get hall pass? The fact they are upgrading the A/C product lines is evidence they acknowledge a problem however not standing behind a known issue causing premature coil failure. Lastly, I paid for a complete HVA system and to this day it has not performed to the level of its competitors! The contractor is coming out tomorrow to charge my system for the third time after initial install. I asked that the tech do the work before all my neighbors come home and see their truck in my driveway. Since 2006, I've had to have my HVAC contractor come out and service one or more of the 3 units in my home at least a dozen times. The main unit's coil has already failed twice (leaks), and now I'm about to get a third one. The cost should be covered under the 10-year warranty, but not the labor which will probably be $750 or more. Unlike William in Eufaula, most contractors do not stand by their product and will happily pass the labor costs on to the consumer. I have paid many thousands of dollars in labor and refrigerant costs to keep these defective units running. I don't know how this company stays in business and why there hasn't been a class action lawsuit.

This is day nine without air conditioning, during which the temperature has been in the high 80s and low to mid-90s. Seems the fan and the fan motor on the outside Frigidaire unit has gone bad and the Nordyne-Frigidaire parts network is unable to find a replacement and/or has not communicated any updates on the status of locating the parts. This development, by itself, would not be noteworthy. However - the current mess is one in a long, continuing process of a non-working product, exceeded only by the worst customer service that normal, ordinary consumers should not have to endure.
We bought the original unit - a 15 SEER heat pump and air handler, model numbers FT48F-048K and B4VM-X48K-C in September 2007 - purchased and installed by an authorized Frigidaire dealer. After more service calls than we care to remember - not working, freezing up, not cooling, no Freon (or whatever the coolant is called) - the outside unit was replaced under warranty on June 2011. To be fair, the replacement took less time, effort and angst than I anticipated. The original dealer - who had been doing maintenance and service calls to date - installed the new unit and received the $250 as stipulated under the warranty.
Was all well with the heating and air conditioning world - no! No sooner than replaced, same scenario as before. Multiple service calls and many dollars later, we are now told the coils in the air handler are leaking. During one service call trying to locate leaks - the suggestion of the authorized Frigidaire service person - was to hire a contractor to take the siding off the house to test the lines. Did so, during which the authorized Frigidaire dealer disappeared, refused to return calls and simply quit the account.
After multiple calls to Nordyne - interwoven with lengthy times on hold and aloof service reps - finally got through to Bob ** in July 2013 - the necessary supervisor with whom one must speak. Explained our plight to Mr. ** after which he explained that the unit was not under warranty. Says I - "But we have a ten-year warranty." Says Mr. **, "Since your unit was not registered, you only have a five-year warranty." Says I - "I have the paperwork which shows that the item was registered when purchased by the dealer and installer who sold it to us." Says Mr. ** - "We have no record of that, so your warranty is only good for five years."
Fast forward to the present - still within what we thought was a ten-year warranty - multiple service calls, now on the replaced outside unit, many dollars expended, and continuing product problems. Not sure when the fan and parts will arrive. Fortunately, it is starting to rain today, so maybe with the lower temperatures, we can get some sleep tonight. Unless you want a product with incredibly low level quality control, supported by an organizational culture with an unbelievably poor customer service ethic - don't even begin to think about buying a Nordyne-Frigidaire product. Above all, don't be taken in by the come-on of the ten-year warranty. While I can't prove it, I highly suspect, based on far too many similar experiences in these reviews - the "no registration" caper is an organizational way of reducing the warranty to five years on products that appear to be the residual of "Monday Morning Hangovers." As an old guy with a lot of organizational experience, together with the unwillingness to be reasonable about their products, I would guess that Nordyne knows the problems and simply doesn't want to expend the resources necessary to do the right thing.

Our builder purchased and installed a 5 ton Frigidaire HVAC in our home while under construction in 2007. Nordyne maintains the warranty is not valid because the builder did not register it, though we have confirmed the unit was manufactured April 18, 2007, 4/27/07 ship date. The compressor has already gone out, the whole system is now being replaced with absolutely no consideration nor support from Nordyne. I would not recommend their products to anyone, and certainly not their service. Their argument is if the unit was not registered, then no warranty after 5 years. If registered, 10 year warranty. Obviously their escape clause must not be valid in CA, as this state was expressly excluded from that escape clause.

Purchased this 15.00 SEER, 3.0 Ton Pkg 2 stage heat pump 12/27/10 based on good reports and past history. First year it ran great and very efficient. The first Spring started having freezing up problems and the defrost board was replaced 3 times in a couple of weeks. Ran good until the next Spring when the defrost board is replaced again, twice as well as the blower motor and heat strip contacts. Now this Spring, it's not cooling again and the blower motor is replaced again. Week later it is still not cooling and expansion valve is bad and over heating. Part has to be ordered! No ac at all until part comes in. My service provider has jumped whenever I called and hasn't charged me anything but tell me their other customers are experiencing the same problems. Westinghouse supplies replacement parts under warranty but their replacement warranty is only good if the compressor burns out, not multiple problems no matter how many you have. Free parts are good but the inconvenience is not covered. I would not recommend this unit to anyone and doubt I will deal with Westinghouse again! Still trying to get a response from Westinghouse.

A month later, the circuit board went out. He wanted his money upfront to replace it. He came back with a circuit board and it would not work. Then, the 2nd one would not work. This was 3 months ago. Have not heard from him. His phone tells me to "leave a message". I call Nordyne asking for a opinion on this situation. They tell me my warranty was only for 5 yrs. The installer said it was a design flaw, and he constructed a new channel for the filter. The coils continue to leak onto the platform and hence onto the carpet below the AC. The Nordyne heat pump was just installed, in mid-winter, under a subsidized low income program. When heat is called for, the compressor and fan come on strongly, gradually the fan ramps down, after which hammering starts. It is like in a water pipe, which ends up shaking the lines and air handler from somewhere outside the house, rattling about every three seconds, until the unit eventually shuts down. While you continue to hear the pulsing everywhere in the house, the fan barely turns, meaning much less heat goes into the rooms, so the heat pump runs much longer than it should.
My electric bill includes regular two-month comparisons with neighbors' bills and my 34 year-old failing heat pump had cost me 64% higher usage than my efficient neighbors' homes. Over the two months following the Nordyne install, with all the latest technology, electricity usage is 77% higher than my efficient neighbors, also 13% higher than the average of all neighbors in the comparison. Two factory reps have not identified the problem correctly or assured me of any solution. Now, with warm weather coming, the heating season will probably end with no hope of correcting the problem. Next winter I will probably be told it is my problem and all the labor charges will fall on me.

The other night we come home and its 64 degrees in the house, and the heat won't work. I remove the side cover off the unit and the blower motor isn't working. In the morning I call the dealer (Desantis Air) that installed the unit and they sent out e tech to check it out. He says it needs a new blower motor. I told him the emergency heat never worked and showed him that there were two wires missing to hook it up. He couldn't understand why the wires were gone, and neither could I. He told me Joe from his office would give me a call and tell me how much this was going to cost. Joe calls and it's $350. For service call and labor to replace the motor because, it's still under 10 year parts warranty. Of course I got real upset and told him I would have to think about this one for a bit.
The next day I went out and looked at the unit and found a date tag on the blower motor from 2009. So the motor failed in 2009, and was replaced and now 4 years later it fails again? Not very good quality parts. The unit was working fine in May and after 6 months of not being used it quits? I asked Joe how long his labor guarantee was for the motor and he tells me 30 days. He has a box at his shop with a junk China motor in it waiting to go in my unit for $350 and if it fails after one month I pay the $350, again. This is a 30 minute repair at the most. Then in year 3, the coil developed a leak. The installer charged the refrigerant and stated that he would be back to replace the coil. He never did. Then this year, the air conditioner lost all coolant and we called our installer. He stated that he was out of town and we should call his friend which we did and the friend came over and refueled our refrigerant. In doing so, he also charged us $125.00.
I emailed the installer and explained that it was not fair that we had to pay $125.00 since he himself never corrected the problem. I then asked when he would be out to replace the coil. He stated that he needed the serial numbers of the unit and the coils. Instead of coming to our house to get them, he asked that my husband get them. Which my husband did. When my husband went under the house, he discovered that something was leaking which he relayed to the installer. Time went on and we never saw or heard from the installer. When he finally did return my emails, he stated that we would need to find someone else to repair the unit....
We did, we called another company and they came out and found that the coils were leaking and the drain pan was cracked. This would be a $796.00 job with these items under warranty. Well, when we went to the Nordyne website, we discovered that our warranty was handled through a company called Assurant. When we called they stated that we had $395.00 available. They stated that they would cover the coils but not the drain pan nor the tax. When I asked why they would not cover all of it, they stated that this is how the policy was written up.
When I called Nordyne (they made the unit) they stated that we would have to go through Assurant. Nordyne stated that they pay Assurant to cover warranties. Both companies talked down to me. After much consideration, we are going to have the Maytag taken out and a new unit installed. Better than putting good money after bad.

Now two of the units are leaking at the coils, and when I called in to Nordyne, one lady said if I did not turn in the registration that I had a five-year warranty and if they did register it, then I had a 10-year warranty. When I faxed in my serial numbers, the lady calls back and says that the unit only has a 5-year warranty, not 10. No matter what, the only thing that does have a 10-year warranty is the compressor, not the coils. After reading this dealer's comments, he thought it had a 10-year warranty too.
When I told the lady that the lady I talked to yesterday told me 10 years, she said that no one would have told me that and that units did not have to be registered until 07 because in 04 they did not send any paperwork with the units to register. When I was coming home to meet my heat and air guy one day, I saw another heat and air company next door. I stopped and talked to them for a minute. They asked me what kind of system I had and I said a Gibson. He said, "I can tell you where it is leaking from right now," and I said where? "The coils are leaking, and we have replaced hundreds of the coils in these units." Good money for Nordyne, but not really good for the customer. Not a good company to do business with.

We purchased the house in December 2008; it was a new construction. The units went out, so we called to get warranty info and get a tech out here. They said it was out of warranty because they go by the manufacturing date, not the actual purchase and installation date. I am a widow, a Gold Star Widow, and I feel cheated and lied to on every level.

I had my Nordyne 15 seer installed in 8/2010. It worked great for exactly 1 year. The blower motor went EXACTLY 1 year after installation. Now 1 1/2 years later, the same part goes again!! The cost to replace this part is covered under warranty, but NOT THE LABOR!! This is the worst product I have had. I will say that my electric bill dropped by $100 a month with this new unit. But really? If you know there is a problem, FIX THE PROBLEM BEFORE YOU SELL MORE PRODUCT!!

I am an A/C contractor in the Florida panhandle, and I'm sick of all these people dogging Nordyne. I have used their equipment for many years and have had close-to-zero complaints, but it was nothing like I have seen on here. You people need to realize it is all in the installation. And also, you probably don't know that the company you use doesn't pay their techs an hourly wage, so if they don't charge you labor, they make no money for your call. I know, because I have worked for some of these places. Yet they blame the manufacturer. I have had none of these issues (other than a few here and there) that has caused any major issues. Don't believe everything your tech tells you... They're just passing the buck... Choose carefully, because most are crooks... Some are honest... Again, if it's not installed right, you will have nothing but trouble...

I had a Nordyne unit installed in August 2007. I had to replace the fan blade very soon afterwards. In June 2010, I had to replace a faulty coil. The part was under warranty but the labor was not. How convenient! I called Nordyne and asked them to at least cover the cost of the Freon that was lost due to their faulty part. They said the Freon wasn't bad so they aren't covering it. I replied that I knew the Freon wasn't bad... the problem was that it was no longer in my system due to a leak in their faulty part. They still refused because the Freon wasn't bad. I don't understand their logic.
Well, here it is May 2013 and I have to replace the coil... again. In less than 6 years, I've had 2 coils go bad. They each lasted less than 3 years. When I called Nordyne to complain and try to get them to cover the labor cost (est $600) they said they couldn't because they only cover parts... not labor. I told them they know that they have a problem with defective coils and they should make a good faith effort to take care of the problem. They refused. Big surprise, right? They don't care about their customers and their reputation. The almighty dollar is the driving force... not doing what is right. I am not happy with Nordyne. I am a retired veteran and don't have the money to shell out keeping this unit going. My last unit (Coleman) lasted for 14 years with no issues.

I had replaced my AC/heat pump with a Nordyne unit in 2006. After paying to install the unit and all the service calls, they replaced it in 2010 saying it was a defective unit. A week after and paying installation again, the unit is having more problem. I spoke to my service man to come out and he replied that he would. Before he could make it out, he passed away. I called the person who took the company over, but he would not come out because this make is known for having issues. I spoke to the company and they said they would send someone out, but they stood me up 3 times. I have to replace the whole unit because I have no heat. This company is selling defective heat pumps and does not stand by their units. Stay away from Nordyne/Gibson.

I purchased a Westinghouse Nordyne unit on 12/28/2010 and have nothing but problems. Yes, they have been covered under factory warranty and by no fault of mine. No, my dealer is not to blame either, it is the useless junk they are selling. The first summer the air was needed the coil and other parts had to be replaced. The first winter the house never remained warm for any period of time causing my electric bill to be the same if not more than the original 15 year old unit I had replaced.
Now, not even on the full 2-year anniversary of having this piece of junk installed, more parts have to be replaced "under warranty" just to get the heat to work. I have to run in emergency heat to attempt to stay warm. I call the toll free number and never once get any kind of apology but instead offered to waste more money on an extended warranty that covers labor charges! There is one person that handles complaints within this terrible company and I am sure he will be as useless as the piece of junk installed in my house. Do not ever purchase a Westinghouse Nordyne unit!

I bought a Nordyne air conditioner in 2007. The person selling it to me said that they would provide excellent service. It was a nightmare. From the beginning, we started to have problems with it. The coils leaked and they were supposed to put in 5 heat coils when they were supposed to put in 10. When we were having it serviced, another technician said they had put the coils in incorrectly. The air conditioner also had tubing touching the coils which burned out part of the main system. We have a stack of repair bills from this machine. Now the blower motor has gone out and we are going to have it replaced. I paid $3,600 for this machine and I can't afford to have it replaced right now. This is the worst company. The company did pay for the replacement parts for the burnt tubing. I wish we could take these people to court. It is highway robbery.

I purchased and installed 2 Nordyne systems for my home on 8/3/10, and barely two years later, am having problems with both systems. The upstairs system, recently, had to have the thermostat replaced. Now, I'm told that the coils are leaking on the downstairs system. Cost on labor for this fix is over $500. And apparently, I'm not alone in this problem, which tells me it's a design flaw on the part of Nordyne, but they will not cover cost of labor for the fix. Just a warning to anyone considering one of their products, do your research and I'm confident you will find this is a company you do not want anything to do with.

I am a contractor that services and installs air conditioning and heating equipment. We are a family owned and operated company with 40 years experience. We are honest. We do not solicit customers through unscrupulous tactics. We rely on knowledge and honesty and good quality service and installations to continue to stay and grow our business. So I will try to let you know from a different perspective, so to speak, what my experience was with Nordyne Manufacturing. When choosing a manufacturer to represent to our customers, we as a company do not take this matter lightly. When we as a company make this decision with much more than just good faith, we do research, inspect, and put everything we have into this decision to do the absolute best job we can do for our customers. Consider the fact that when the customer has problems with a unit, we directly have problems also and it unfortunately causes us tremendous discomfort and money.
To the point at hand: we started installing Nordyne equipment approximately 5 years ago. We had hundreds of installed equipment from the minimum grade equipment all up to the IQ Drive, which is the most technologically complicated and both efficient and expensive equipment available. We were the only company of a few within 100 miles to qualify to install the IQ Drive. After approximately 2 years and hundreds of installations on routine maintenance visits or system failures, the problems began to arise. The largest problem we had with most of these systems was that the coils were leaking. Now, yes, the system is supposed to come with a 10 all parts warranty and a quality pledge, provided it is system compliant and properly registered (which they were). The leaking coils were due to a change that the manufacturer made to the product to cut costs, all the while continuing to raise prices to us for bigger profits to their company. Not only are we consulted or considered in these decisions, they (Nordyne) actually denied to us and our customers that they were having any problems at all with their coils - just to add insult to injury!
But the proof is in the pudding! One woman's complaint is totally correct; we had to put the same defective product we took out until they recently changed the product, which is now available. We do not have faith in this "new" product at this time. That yet remains to be seen. All this "Nordyne" has done has cost me so much money. I cannot even begin to say right now. Worse yet, just as a natural response to getting any new customers and actually losing so many more, when a neighbor or friend sees us only coming back so many times to our customers house, they know they do not want that system. A lot of the customers even blame us directly. They say, "I bought the system from you. I paid you." I have since not been using Nordyne for about at least 1 1/2 years. I am still servicing my customers that I have put in these systems (if they still want me to). I have lost so many customers and so many future customers that you could say I am about out of business because of this! Nordyne, as an understatement, "could care less"! Sincerely, A co-business owner of an air conditioning company in FL

2nd time coils in attic have a leak in them - They are covered by the warranty but I am being told by two separate AC companies that the coils will not hold the new freon and it has split again. In two years, if I put the same coils in that they will replace, I will be facing the same situation again. This product is not providing the service it is supposed to. I have put out of pocket over $1000 in four years on a brand new house and I should have not have to do this. I am very angry with this company.

I bought my mobile home in March of 2009, complete with a Nordyne heat pump system. The first problem was right after installation, the thermostat was damaged, so the installer came immediately and replaced it. In December of 2010, the unit had leaked coolant, but I could not get the installer to come to service it. He complained it was too far of a drive, that anyone could service it and get the warranty information. So a local company checked it out, but couldn't find the leak, but refilled it with coolant, which cost $150.
Again in September 2011, the AC began having fits. The local company came back to discover that coils had leaked. There was nothing more, that the local company could do as they couldn't access the warranty since they do not deal with Nordyne. I got in touch with the installer today only to find out that the coils have only a one-year warranty. The Nordyne website boasts of offering the best consumer warranties around. What a lie! You take pride and say you have such high quality products, no wonder you don't back them. To purchase the coils, it will cost $700 plus labor. I will never do business with Nordyne again.

I suppose if you could give a rating of below no stars, that would be it. I am currently living the nightmare of spending $3600 in total for unit outside and in attic. I have had similar problems to what everyone else is talking about. I purchased outside unit 09 and the generator went out this summer. They repaired under warranty, it did not work. Now they said coils are leaking, the attic unit is less than 1 year. They replaced the coils and guess what? New coils do not work. We are having 100 degree weather here and it has been a total of one week with no air! I hate this company.

On 9/1/2011, the A/C company replaced a new 1/2 HP speed blower for $120.00 labor fee. I am not happy with this product what so ever! I have read other bad complaints. It's a shame to have a brand new product for 3 1/2 years with parts starting to go bad. Of course, they only offered 1-year labor warranty. I don't wonder why. It must be a lemon product.

Unit purchased new in 8/08. New fan motor and capacitor in 2009. In 12/2010, R22 was low. Tech added 5 lbs. In 1/2011, coils had holes. Tech replaced both coils and more R22 at $45/lb. Labor and coolant charges $760 on 6/2/2011. Bad fan motor and capacitor. Replaced both $250 labor. On 6/4/2011, fan motor bad and re-replaced. On 6/8/2011, unit is not cooling. It needs new compressor and more R22 at $45/lb. I don't know how much the labor will be but we're close to $1500 I'm sure by the time it's done. What else is left to break? This unit was defective from the factory. Nordyne refuses to cover labor or R22 which leaked due to their defective parts.
My husband is a disabled Vietnam veteran. We lived on a fixed income. He cannot be without a/c. We live in Florida. Nordyne customer service laughs at you when you call them. They are all rude and nasty. Their own employees posted a blog on the internet stating that Nordyne has trailer loads of defective units in their yard and they are selling them as new. Unfortunately, many people are on the receiving end of their garbage. We cannot spend anymore money on this. We are now going to have to try to purchase a new unit to replace this one but we can't afford it. Someone needs to start a class action against this company.

There were two coil leaks in December 2009, another leak in May 2009, another leak in November 2009, and then in December 2009, a new air handler had to be installed. I purchased a home this July 2009 and the previous owner had got a Nordyne packaged unit installed in the home last year. I had the house warming ceremony on August 16th and for the first time I had turned on the AC in the house. On evening, when I went to my master bedroom to relax, the whole of the ceiling was leaking condensed water from the AC and roof is screwed up now. I got it fixed by spending $300. Later, within 5 days, the AC stopped blowing cold air. I called in the contractor to find out that the Nordyne condenser unit is blown out since it has a leak in the condenser unit. It’s hardly within a year this thing has happened. Since I did not have the information on who installed it, I had to run around to get information.
When I contacted Nordyne folks, they were so harsh in speaking to me in spite of telling them I am a new owner. They provided me the information to a company named Bell Simmons and when I reached them, they were not at all talking to me and used to hang up the phone. This went on for days when I finally got the information on who installed the unit. This guy has charged me $800 for labor. This is a total rip-off when the unit is not covered under labor. First of all, I paid 8 to 10 grand to buy and get units installed and then later when there’s a problem I pay for the labor. It is a total rip-off. There is no help from these manufacturing companies to support warranty and this is totally ridiculous to even recommend to people on getting units installed. I am extremely unsatisfied by going with Nordyne who don't even talk to their customers to the required satisfaction and don't back their products in events of failure. This is outrageous on people buying from these folks who claim big on their products.
