We purchased a Jenn-Air 36" Range (PRG3610LP) in 2006 and the broiler stopped working recently because the thermostat was shot. The repairman said the replacement part is no available. He said the thermostat for the oven is also no longer available. This range was an expensive, supposedly top of line appliance and now we can no longer use the broiler. We were hoping the range was going to a long term investment, twelve and half years is all got. My recommendation is avoid Jenn-Air products altogether unless you're OK with having to replace it every 10 years or so.

Purchased a Jenn-Air slide in electric oven 6 years ago. Control board blew out within the first year. That was covered under the warranty. Never recovered all the functions. One year ago, board stopped working again. Jenn-Air was not helpful at all. No warranty, no help. Offered to sell me a new warranty. Now the whole oven is not working. Terrible product, even worse customer service, did not even entertain other options. will NEVER purchase another Jenn-Air product again. DO NOT recommend anyone purchasing these products either.

All the prior reviews are right on! This is the worst item I have ever purchased when building a home. It has done nothing but cost me grief, time and money having to buy not one, not two but three electronic boards since I bought it. Not mentioning the error code constantly going off and several other parts purchased over the years attempting to not have go out and purchase another oven. Do yourself a favor and stay away from Jenn-Air. The company does not stand by its products and the oven/range is a disaster! I kid you not.

This model is very unreliable. It came with the home we purchased and we have had nothing but trouble with it. It just about brunt our home down. The burner handles turn so easily that all is needed is a slight brush and it's on. Very unsafe! Today, suddenly all of the controls stop functioning. The stove top works but nothing else. This leads me to the useless trouble-shooting guide which explains how to possibly fix this condition by using the exact buttons that do not work. What a joke. Time for a new stove but it will not be a Jenn-Air. At one time, these were bulletproof and "the stove to buy' but no more. They are no better than a Kenmore and possibly the Kenmores are better.

Panel Control Part Number WPW10314418 Failure rate: Bought the 30 inch slide in downdraft unit in November 2011, the unit replaced an well worn-out slide in range of similar design, actually had little or no choice as Jenn-Air/Whirlpool was the only manufacturer manufacturing similar downdrafts at that time (today Kitchen Aid has a Model KSDG950ESS available, however they have seem to have design problems of their own, hopefully they will address them better than Jenn-Air/Whirlpool has demonstrated).

We have had two major Panel Control failures as well as infinity switches and glass top cocking elements over the lifetime of the unit, we will not use the self cleaning over feature as this is a kiss of death to the Push Button Panel Control Unit. It's obvious Jenn-Air/Whirlpool has demonstrated no intentions of rectifying their multitude of design/parts quality issues or they would have addressed them by now.

An example, we used to buy nothing but Maytag washers and dryers until they started followed a similar path as Jenn-Air/Whirlpool, now we use LG washer and dryer, they have been absolutely trouble free after six years of heavy duty use, I hate to say it but so far Whirlpool/Jenn-Air has failed to react to customer complaint other than deny they have issues while maintaining unrealistic parts pricing. Sometime losing market share is the only way to get their attention, possible someone will buy them out or they fail on their own - we for one will not support manufacturers who ignore their customer base, we shout about "Made in America", meanwhile in some cases the Koreans and others are designing and manufacture better products!!

I purchased a Jenn-Air induction range. The induction cooking part of the range is great. Extremely disappointed in the AquaLift cleaning feature. I cooked a turkey dinner and there was grease from the turkey inside the oven. Nothing to be scraped out. The next day I followed the directions for the AquaLift cleaning and did it 5x. Awful. How can anything possibly get clean and a person able to wipe up the water in 40 minutes. Temperature only gets to 220 I've been told. I had to manually scrub out the grease on the sides and back of the oven and still didn't get it all.

Customer service reps very nice and tried to be helpful. Apparently AquaLift is only intended to do the bottom. What good is that? Extremely disappointed that Jenn-Air thought this feature could possibly replace a self-clean where the oven actually gets hot and the entire oven gets clean without manual labor. I spent 10 hours trying to do what my Kenmore did for me countless times by turning on self-clean and wiping out the small white ashes when it was done. I hope they go back to the drawing board and fix what's not working. Sorry I spent so much money and time on a range that I will most likely not use the oven part for often because I don't like the effort it takes to clean it. Sorry I believed the hype that this AquaLift works. It does not.

We have no choice purchasing a stove - it has to have downdraft and only Jenn-Air makes them. I am comparing the new stove to the old Jenn-Air stove. The old one was easier to clean - top and control area. It takes too long for the oven to warm up - double the time of the old one. Even had the repair people out. The new stove was twice the price as the older one and there are no extras that really matter... The rack sliding out easy just doesn't turn me on if you get my drift. On the new stove EVERY BURNER KNOB IS DIFFERENT. SO you are in a rush you still have to look at the knobs. And the biggest dislike is... Whose bright idea was it to put the small pot burners in the back and the largest in front? Take a minute to think WHY would a woman not like this? What about a short woman? Dumb... Get better engineers and hire women because the team you got now stinks.

I was told by JA, on the phone, they NEVER make anything not to spec. I have one that the stainless steel parts are to spec width, 29 7/8". But the side black panels on my range are 30". In the book that came with the range it says "Dimensions given are maximum dimensions across all models." Note the word "maximum" and "all models." There is a diagram of a range below it with different dimensions listed. B, the width says 29 7/8. So, the black side panels create a space above it, between the SS and the counter/cabinet, where the stainless steel is the spec width and the black panel is not. The dealer sent out a replacement. The 2 guys that delivered it measured the one on the truck but did not unload it because it too was not on spec. They did not allow my husband to see the measurement and did not let me see when they measured the cabinet cutout.

When they got back to the dealer he said they told him the cutout was only 29 9/16. It is 30, my builder had the booklet with him when he made it. Several competent people have measured it since, and it is 30." But in the very beginning, when I first mentioned this to the dealer, they sent a guy the next day to measure and he said it was 30," what is mentioned in the installation booklet that is provided with the range. That's when they said they would replace it. So, that is 2 ranges not built to spec. So when JA says "they NEVER make anything not to spec." I would advise anyone to not believe them. My sister has my old 15 yr old Jenn-Air and is happy. But it's a stand alone range and doesn't have to be built to spec. (I took measurements and photos at 4 levels across the stove, but only sent 2 here).

I sent out one board to be repaired only to find it was the proprietary chip that is bad and the aftermarket repair shops can't get these chips. Thank you Jenn-Air for nothing. I would highly recommend that anyone buying an oven opt for the old standard thermostat and forget the digital age electronics. These just don't hold up in the high heat, high current environment of a oven. It could also be the brand and just shoddy Whirlpool design that sent my oven to the junkyard. I have a 4 year old slide in gas Jenn-Air range Model #JGS8860BDP. The motherboard has shorted out 3 times in 4 years. I have been forced to pay for an electrician to verify that the problem is due to this highly criticized model and not with my new, dedicated wiring that was installed during the kitchen remodel for this express purpose only 4 years ago. I will now likely be without an oven for more than 2 weeks during Christmas because of time suck involved in waiting for the diagnostic appointment, then fighting for expedited shipping on the part, and then the installation of the replacement part appointment causing me to miss work a minimum of two 5 hours windows.

Jenn-Air has implied to me that if I continue to buy an AIG extended warranty on this clearly faulty part, then they cannot discuss replacing the oven. Yet I also don't trust them to actually replace the oven if I don't buy the extended part warranty based on past history. By now the cost of the multiple, serial extended warranties is approaching one third of the cost of the original oven. I am disgusted, highly inconvenienced by and distrustful of this brand. For the rest of my life I will never buy a Jenn-Air product again nor will my child nor his future children for as long as there is a breath in my body. Shame on you Jenn-Air. SHAME!

P.S. My 4 year old Jenn-Air dishwasher has broken down once due to a plastic clip design flaw that the technician was able to rig to work with scrap wire from his van and our 4 year old Jenn-Air cabinet mount microwave has a vent design flaw (also due to plastic clips) and has had to have a $200 part replaced twice in 4 years.

Just like others posting here, I find myself replacing the keypad control for my Jenn-Air dual-fuel range a second time -- and I am not amused. When I bought this range 9 years ago in order to switch to gas burners. My house was built in 1983 and the original owner installed an all-electric Jenn-Air range in a free-standing cooking island, with the downdraft ventilation. It worked fine, although the grilling unit was lousy -- I've had toaster ovens with more heat! When I looked into a gas-burner replacements, my only option to fit the custom space dimension was another Jenn-Air. So I bought the dual-fuel version in 2006 and had problems from the get-go.

First, the new range didn't fit -- it was about 1/2" wider than the other, although they were sold as the identical size. I had to cut the counter-top to get the thing squeezed in. Looking forward to using the gas grill feature, I was immediately disappointed. It's no better than the old electric version! It takes less time to fire up a Weber kettle than it does to cook a steak on this thing. And don't even think about lamb chops -- the downdraft ventilation is so poor, my house smelled of grilled lamb for days.

But irking me most was when the electronic keypad abruptly failed about five years ago. At least the old electric range had real knobs and not a circuit board. I spent $350 for a new keypad and installed it myself. But now, just weeks before Thanksgiving, this second one has died without warning. I looked into buying an entire new oven -- Samsung and Bosch now have dual-fuel ranges that will fit my space. But I didn't feel like coughing up another $1800 when I can replace the keypad for $300. Overall -- when the keypad is working -- the burners and oven work fine. But spending $300 every five years to replace a key part is just not acceptable.

They are not worth the price! I remember when my parents bought appliances that lasted almost a lifetime. This is not the experience I have with Jenn-Air Products. We did a home renovation early 2008 and we purchased a commercial range, dishwasher and cabinet depth refrigerator. The dishwasher was replaced after 5 years because it was beginning to cost more than a new dishwasher to repair.

The range has been another recurring issue with burners consistently not working and a regulator that has been replaced 2x. I have had PSEG to my home 4x because of gas leaks and faulty equipment. All repairs are of course needed after the warranty is expired. I am now faced with yet another gas leak and not being able to get a new regulator for the $4,000 range, as Jenn-Air no longer carries. I have reached out to the company before frustrated with no response. I called them today to ask for partnership for my current issue and I am told I am on my own. The 1st representative that I spoke with told me to look for the part on eBay. What fabulous Customer Service. Learn from our experience and do not buy ANY Jenn-Air products. Model JGR8895BDS. I am extremely unhappy with this oven. The touchpad for the oven controls is so sensitive as to be ridiculous. It was purchased in 2009 and in 2013 the touchpad membrane had to be replaced. In 2014 I had to have the control and touchpad replaced again. Now, in 2016 on 9/19 I preheated the oven and went to put it on the timer and found that NONE of the keypad worked except the cancel button. (Thank god, I was able to turn it off.) Now I cannot use the stove. All I have is a cooktop.

I have NEVER had so many problems and repairs with ANY appliance. I will not spend another $226 dollars for another year or two of use, if I am lucky. This has happened in seven years of use, and not heavy use. Two people, no kids. THIS IS A LEMON!! I will never purchase another Jenn-Air product. I had also purchased an over the oven microwave the same time I got the oven. It died last year in 2015. I made a point of replacing it with a non-Jenn-Air product. Around June 2015, I had an electrician come in to do some work at my house. So I asked him to take a look at the stove/connections/electricity (whatever you want to call it) to make sure that electricity was not the issue. Electrician said that everything was fine. In the process of replacing a defective control panel. I found that the ribbon cable in the old panel had a delaminated separation of the two-part plastic covers enclosing the copper leads in the ribbon cable. A problem expressed in several reviews. The label on the new ribbon cable is dated 5/7/2015. When I connected the new ribbon cable it immediately delaminated in the same manner. Even to the extent of copper traces in both ribbons stuck to either side of the delamination in the same pattern as the old cable! I consider this proof of failure in a new part that demonstrates an inherent defect in manufacture of the ribbon cable. Control Panel Assembly Part number: W10206064. The front touch control panel failed on the stove requiring the replacement that I ordered. I removed the old front panel from the stove and noticed that the ribbon cable connecting the panel to the stove had separated in two parts.

There are 13 electric lines in the cable. Some remained attached to one side of the separated cable and some to the other side. For installation connection the ribbon cable has to be curved in the reverse of the natural curve as it comes out of the panel in order to connect it. I did that to connect the new panel ribbon cable to the circuit board moved from the old panel. When I connected the ribbon cable to its connector on the panel I noticed an immediate separation of the new ribbon cable into two enclosing plastic pieces with some lines in the cable remaining attached to one side of the separation and other lines remaining attached to the other side of the separated cable. This is the same separation in the new ribbon cable that happened to the old ribbon cable. Two sides of the semi-rigid plastic ribbon cable are stuck together with an adhesive.

The bend required to attach the ribbon cable to the connector causes the ribbon cable to separate. Furthermore the separation pattern of the 13 conducting lines in the cable that remained attached to one or the other sides of the separated cable was the same as in the original cable. This is a cheaply made defective ribbon cable. I continued with the installation and tested operation of the panel after it was installed and the panel operated correctly in spite of the cable separation. I suspect that the original ribbon cable was defective upon manufacture and that over time exposure of the very thin otherwise enclosed conducting copper lines corroded causing failure. This panel will also certainly fail over time for the same reason.

Others have reported similar failure of the ribbon cable and still others have reported multiple failure and replacement of the touch panel without citing possible or probable reason for the replacement. The obvious explanation being the ribbon cable failure. These unfortunate buyers. Me too! If you are installing the control panel then look for this problem. If it is being professionally installed I suggest that you observe the installation or at least tell the installer about the nature of the problem. Jenn-Air never heard of the problem! Copy to Jenn-Air!

Super expensive compared to other sites that provide the part. I brought a new component board... mistake. It went out later again! This part was very expensive. So, I called Jenn-Air to now replace my stove in the island. My response? The newer Jenn-Air will not fit the same... Must cut out the island more! The vent to the downdraft? Also must be cut more into the cabinets behind the island to fit down into the original downdraft hole vent to go to the outside vent off the house. Which too is another issue now (I will respond to issue below).

So, first the cost of a new Jenn-Air downdraft? (It seems they are the only ones who market downdrafts? A Monopoly again by big business... it seems) Not to mention, the price for a new downdraft by Jenn-Air! Unbelievable costs! Compared to other up draft vented ranges. So, I have to first cut out my island; thus replace tiles, then, cut out my back cupboard area and lose space for storage to be able to re vent the new BIGGER range to accommodate the range downdraft venting! On and on it goes... NOW? ADD! The outside vent (neighbors too with the same problem). The tubing that goes to the outside vent is underneath the foundation slab which comes up to a metal box, which then heads to the vent to expel the ranges cooking air and heat. IT IS TOTALLY RUSTED AT GROUND LEVEL! I now have to find a way to remedy this issue. It seems neighbors also have this issue who had the same downdraft Jenn-Air Island range!

Unbelievable Costs now to replace... Live and let/learn! Never again! A Jenn-Air or downdraft range period! I am now working on altering the entire downdraft system to an overhead draft and replacing with a more closer fitted and less expensive Samsung range... The cost? Nearly the same or less!! Than to do a Jenn-Air again... Also one must fix that downdraft vent hole that has rusted out! For it has created problems with others with regards to water flowing in from downpour rains. Thus filling up the tubing under the house! Great product Jenn-Air! Thank you for the headaches and costs! PS. Look at the reviews of Jenn-Air and complaints! Low... I wonder why?

Jenn Air Gas Range Constant Temperature Problem Model JGR8890ADP - About 18 months after purchase, we had the first repairs. This is the high end gas range with an upper slim oven (for trays, pizza, cookies, and the like) and a lower large convection oven for cooking large dishes, turkeys, etc. It has electric starters and a computer control panel at the top. The computer control panel (Part no. W10172705) went faulty and the top oven "igniter" (Part no. 7432P143-60) went bad. The controller was replaced first but the oven did not light. The other lower igniter was then replaced and the stove finally began to operate. After about another 18 months, the range quit working again and igniters were replaced.

This stove is regularly failing to work properly. Either the oven igniters won't work or the top touch pad controller goes on the blink or both. We have replaced the touch pad controller once and now are told we apparently need to replace it again. We have replaced the igniters twice but are now told they may need replacing. Like the substandard KitchenAid dishwashers with the black membrane touch pad, this high end range is just substandard.

The top oven will not come on at all. The temperature displays 100 degrees, the start of the heating cycle, but the oven does not light. The bottom oven lights and the temperature climbs to 125 degrees and then the whole membrane panel goes blank. Even the cancel function does not work. KitchenAid is Kitchen Junk. It ruined our Thanksgiving last year and is a frequent issue at dinner time. How many repairs does an owner need to have done in order to get a working range?

We paid over $1800 for this range on the basis that it was reliable & high end. Well, we were taken to the cleaners. The stove we replaced was a 35 year old Kenmore that was simply beyond getting bright & pretty and silly us, we thought appearance was important enough to replace it. Boy did we blunder. This KitchenAid range is between 6 and 7 years old, it has never worked longer than a few months and so we have regretted buying it since purchase. In our minds eye, KitchenAid now is means Kitchen Junk. Do I need to be fair? Yes, its substandard Chinese electronics packaged by technically illiterate sales people and designed to make profit, not baked food. Stay away from KitchenAid. Buy a used Kenmore and move on with life.

I purchased a downdraft Jenn-Air range to replace an old Thermador range and man am I disappointed. Firstly - they sell their ranges with a grill and you must purchase a kit to replace the grill with burners. Secondly - the replacement burners will go no lower than medium. A stove top with just one true "simmer" burner is certainly not made for cooking - it's made for boiling and burning!! I went with the Jenn-Air as a range, with the downdraft feature was not easy to find locally - I now wish we'd renovated and not been forced into purchasing a Jenn-Air.

We purchased a Jenn-Air Stove (JES9900BCS) back in September of 2009. Actually, the unit was delivered in January of 2010. Last year the glass top developed a hairline crack and the front control panel stopped worked all together. Thankfully, they were both replaced under warranty. Fast forward to September 2015 when the front tight dual burner decided that it too would stop functioning. Oh, did I mention that this unit cost us $2,200.00 plus tax? I called Whirlpool customer service hoping that I could have them cover the cost of repairs. That was a complete waste of time. I ended our conversation vowing that neither I or anyone of my three daughters were ever going to buy a Whirlpool product again. Next stove is going to be a very ordinary stainless unit in the 500-600.00 dollar range. What a lemon. How does that saying go? Oh yes, "They just don't make them like they used to."

The knobs turn by just passing by them! This is the fourth time this has happened in less than 2 years. When you're cooking you can turn the gas on by just pressing your stomach against them. If someone is in the kitchen standing next to the stove that's enough to turn on the gas. We notice it when all of a sudden the house stinks of gas! This morning on my way upstairs to change my son I was carrying him and his foot brushed the knob when we were passing. I didn't notice it when it happened till we came downstairs and I was overwhelmed by the smell! We just woke up and hadn't used the stove yet so that tiny little foot was enough to turn the gas on high! So scary! What if we had left the house and it had the whole day to build up!

When I called customer service they said they can't do anything about it. The guy also said his dog turns his Jenn-Air range on all the time, which isn't saying much. This product in my opinion should be recalled before someone's house explodes. But they don't seem to care about that. Also, the oven doesn't lock. It's supposed to be pressing two buttons but they don't work, which is so dangerous if you have kids. I would never buy a Jenn-Air product again, and I would advise anyone who is thinking of getting this brand to find another.

We waited years to buy a Jenn-Air Ceramic Cooktop range, and it looks like maybe we should've waited even longer, given how long it takes to cook very ordinary things! The range was purchased in January of 2015 and we've experienced a series of disappointments with the stove's overall performance. Not the least of which is just how long it takes the heating areas on the ceramic cooktop to reach "high" heat and for the oven to preheat: a whole hour to reach a sufficient simmer to boil ears of corn and 25 minutes (or more) for the oven to reach 425 degrees!

The boiling water never did reach a robust rolling boil. My homemade stove-top caramel sauce was almost a flop, because the burner never stayed quite hot enough so that the melting butter and brown sugar would briskly bubble along the edges. Add to that a set of wonky oven racks that slide out much too loosely (I almost had a burn injury when one came slipping forward toward my mid-section while I was bending over to check on a batch of cookies!) and an oven that doesn't heat evenly. For example, cookies in the middle of the oven will brown and/or burn while those along the edges don't bake as well.

When I called the customer service telephone line to report the problems, I did speak with a very cordial representative who indeed did try to assist me with some "tricks" to improve the stove's performance: 1) Buy new cookware! Make sure that the bottom dimensions of the cookware match the sizes of the 'burners' exactly, and make sure that the cookware is truly flat on the bottom, without convex sides! 2) Bake with just one rack in the oven! That's right, because oven racks absorb heat and that makes it take longer to preheat.

When I explained to the rep that I have some cookie recipes that require moving the cookie sheets from bottom to top rack to bake properly, she didn't have a solution to offer other than to say that it's better to bake with just one rack in the center of the oven! Funny, but you never seem to hear about these kinds of limitations in any of the advertising information! And funny, too, but none of the dealers seem to provide working floor models so you can test them out, and of course, none of the sales reps seem to offer any of this kind of information at the time of purchase!

When I complained to Jenn-Air's customer service rep that following her tips would mean that I would either have to abandon the recipes that I've used for years (such as the home-made caramel sauce prepared on the stovetop) or that I'd have to learn another way of cooking, she suggested that I could buy a much more expensive Jenn-Air stove than the slide-in model that we purchased. I explained that we were limited in our choice of models because we did not feel ready to undertake a major kitchen remodeling just to replace a stove.

She went on to explain that the slide-in models don't have the same features as the higher end models, which was another way of saying that if you are an accomplished cook and are looking for the kind of flexibility that a professional chef would want from a stove, you're not going to have that with the 30" slide-in model. In summary, I could probably boil corn much faster with an iron cauldron in the family fireplace!

The knobs to control the flame on this range can move too easily. Bumping against a knob when cooking can turn on a flame. This is a safety hazard for children and also cooks who when reaching to stir a pot on a back burner can accidentally turn on a front burner. I haven't been injured but recently a surprise flame burnt a hole in my sweater.

I brought this to Jenn Air's attention. They require the serial number of the range, which is fair. Unfortunately this number is on the back of the range. Since this is a slide-in range it is not a simple job to pull it out and look at the serial number because the gas has to be turned off and connections removed.

They will let this only be done by an authorized dealer. Understandable. Unfortunately the nearest one is an hour away and their charge to pull the stove out will be around $200. This is not covered by warranty. The Jenn Air rep who telephoned me was not helpful, saying things like "don't stand too close to the stove" and "don't wear loose clothing". I wasn't looking for recompense. I just wanted them to know about the design flaw of the knobs. It reminds me of the old adage "No good deed goes unpunished."

I don't know what part to replace and once you buy it they will not give you your money back. My model is JES9750AAW, has anyone else had this problem?

We are choosing not to deal with this range any longer. After searching around the net, I discovered that this is a common occurrence. Then I discovered that Jenn-Air is now owned by Whirlpool! The control panel is another $250 and I just ordered it. My hubby can put it in, which is good, but after reading all of the complaints that others have had with this and similar range, I feel like this is likely going to be one in a long string of replaced control panels. Arg. I did read on the parts website Appliancepartspros.com that a customer had recommended putting in some high-heat silicone sealant around the new control panel after installing (Apparently it's heat escaping from the oven that kills the control board). Bought a Jennair slide-in, downdraft range in 2011. It was expensive. The electronic keypad has now failed twice. The repairmen said we can expect it to continue failing because the ultra-cheap ribbon cable connecting the wiring to the keypad fails under normal use. JennAir apparently is well aware of this, yet have not issued a recall. They are a brazenly thieving company for positioning themselves as a luxury brand, selling stoves that are all but guaranteed to stop working after a short time because of poor design and cheap parts.

Jenn-Air slide-in downdraft came with the home; home design requires downdraft. Within a year the numbers 6-7-8-9-0 failed one by one although 8 still works occasionally. A friend with the same oven had identical problem and replaced the control panel which has continued working for over a year. Clearly this panel failure is a known flaw but Jenn-Air refuses to acknowledge it.

Currently I cobble together the right temperature with the numbers that still work. Convection doesn't work well and the oven is now heating unevenly. Based on how long it's taking to bake familiar recipes, I suspect it is no longer achieving the proper temperature. This oven is only about 8 yrs old. I need to replace it but can't afford the $6000 Dacor and don't trust Jenn-Air's newest $2800 model. Those of us who need downdraft are really over a barrel with these companies.

We purchased a Jenn Air Range Model JES9860BAS with downdraft in November 2007 and had it professionally installed. It replaced a 20 year old range by the same manufacturer and we needed the downdraft feature. At the time, Jenn-Air was the only manufacturer selling a range with this downdraft feature under $2500 retail. Within 6-months, the control pad stopped working. Fortunately, our warranty covered its replacement. Two years after that, the control pad failed again. This time, I purchased an extended warranty which came to good use in another 3 years when the panel failed yet again.

We are now on to our fourth replacement but this time, we are out of warranty. Extended or otherwise and the cost for replacement is in excess of $700 (including parts and labor). I'm wondering how long this latest replacement will last? Jenn-Air/Maytag keeps on manufacturing and selling these ranges all with similar control panels, with substantial negative consumer feedback (thanks to the web). I have contacted Jenn-Air who provided no assistance and don't seem to give a damn about the technical flaws in their ranges. I guess as long as stupid consumers like me keep on buying them, they'll keep on selling 'em.

If I had known what I know now (I regret not doing due diligence on my 'range' research at the time). Of course, we would never have purchased a Jenn-Air/Maytag range with an electronic control pad. I have since learnt that Jenn-Air was considered a decent brand back in the day, before Maytag bought them out. My questions now are... why do they keep on making crappy ranges, not standing behind their product and/or remedying obvious technical/quality control issues? Where is the consumer protection or customer satisfaction in that philosophy?

The range is a commercial grade and has provided excellent service. The range looks as new as when it was installed in our home even though it has been worked very hard over the years. My issue is with the oven door hinges. The door became hard to open and close. The repairman removed the original hinges and put on replacement hinges and the cylinders that the hinges fit into. The door will no longer close.

Whirlpool's replacement hinge is 71003353. Even though the hinge states on the box "official Whirlpool replacement part," the hinges are not strong enough to keep the door closed. The original hinge seemed to be spring loaded and this hinge appears not to have any spring tension. Jenn-Air says too bad buy another range. The cost for another range similar with center downdraft is over $3000 dollars. Has anyone out there experienced this problem. I appreciate anyone who has, taking their time to respond. The downdraft grill is located in the center of the stove top and prevents large pans from sitting flush.

The glass cooktop insert is a piece of crap, the glass is not cleanable and I have tried numerous specialty products as recommended. Despite being a high end and very expensive range it looks dirty and horrible despite my daily efforts to keep it clean. Of most concern is the infinite control switch for the burners however. The switch ignited and sparked across the room. This tripped the main breaker. When the breaker was returned to on position, the switch ignited an electrical fire which started behind the infinite control switch.

Unbelievable that a problem that is supposed to be so progressive and high end is such a piece of garbage. This very expensive range is now an unusable and disgusting eye sore in my kitchen. Like many others here, the keypad on our very expensive Jenn-Air range went out. It happened slowly at first (we could 'bake' but not 'convect') but now we cannot use the oven at all (though we can still use the timer.... So we have a $2,000 timer. ...okay, okay, the stove top / burners still work although those seem to be finicky). I suspect this keypad issue is most typical on the slide-in model (which we have) because the keypad is just above the oven door.

We have the part on order (good price at Appliancepartspros.com) and the repair seems fairly straightforward (much to my husband's dismay, I took it apart to noodle around and see if any wires are loose; none were but it's clear how to replace the part just by sliding out the oven a few inches and removing a handful of screws and knobs and disconnecting the control panel - where the keypad is sandwiched/embedded - from the control box where most of the electronics reside). Lots of sources mention focus on the oven door seal to ensure that it is tight and that heat is not escaping up into the control panel. We will likely replace the oven door gasket too just because (this too looks like a pretty easy repair).

I am very disappointed in this Jenn-Air and feel a bit hamstrung because no one else seems to make a downdraft range and installing a hood would not really work for our placement. Like everyone who has posted, it's unclear when to stop throwing good money after bad here given the large upfront investment. We shopped around and noticed that many brands (not just Jenn-air) have issues with the electronics that cause tons of dissatisfaction due to expensive and repeated repairs. If ranges had knobs instead of keypads for everything I suspect they would all have far fewer issues (appliance makers, take note!!).

I purchased a Jenn-Air model JES9860CAS slide-in range Aug 27th 2013. It was installed on Sept. 13th, 2013. Warranty was from date of purchase... I questioned that. Mine is a slide-in range convection oven, electric. On the day it was installed, before I turned it on, I said that the grates on the grill side were not sitting flat and they were wobbling. No problem, they would get a new element as the one in there was warped and they would replace it. I was told not to worry about it as it is under warranty. Wait.. I have to use my warranty before I even turn this stove on??

Well, they sent a new one... Same problem, they sent a 3rd one and that was the wrong one. The fan would not turn on the way it should. I was told to just use the other fan. So they have now sent out 2 prongs and a clip to put on the wrong one they sent and that would correct the problem...The wrong one was worse than the warped one.. So they said to keep the wrong one as a spare if the warped one fails. The clips on the element do not sit down on the stove top. They replaced the stove top and that made no difference at all... still the same problem.

When I bought this stove, I was under the assumption that you got the grill and a cartridge. Boy was I wrong. You got the grill and had to pay extra for the cartridge. I got the glass top electric cartridge for the sum of $350.00... Got the extended warranty for $230.00 bringing the total for this range to $2,999.16. When they installed the stove, I had them put the cartridge on the left side and I wanted the grill on the right side... NOPE, ONLY goes on the left side. I have no counter on the left side. I have 4" as it is the end of the counter run. The cartridge has the large burner in the front and the small burner in the back. So if I have a big kettle on the front, I have to reach over it to put something on the grill or walk around to the end of my counter to put it on the grill.

The book says to clean the grill after each use. I went to take the pan out and you cannot lift it straight up as the edges hit the 2 screws along the sides. The service man said, "You will have to tip it to get it out." What is the sense of having a pan if you have to tip it sideways and the grease can run out? Well, it is just one of those things... The stove top is supposed to be stainless steel. I have never seen stainless steel have little knife-like scratches show up like this does. I only noticed it when I turned my overhead lights on. The repair guy said, "Oh, just go to Lowe's or Home Depot and get some Scratch-B-Gone."

I have also had a hard time cleaning the glass top even though I used the little bottle of cleaner that they "give" you to use... I have stopped payment on the half of the bill that I charged. I seriously think that this was in someone else's home and pushed from place to place and hope that it will find a home. I am so frustrated with this stove I am thinking of having them take it out and refunding my money. I had another Jenn-Air that worked fine for 34 yrs., same downdraft slide-in type. I am very dissatisfied with this stove and tomorrow I will be calling them to take it out. Since they had to cut the counter to fit this one in, I am hoping to find another one that will fit in the space... The element problem is still not fixed and when I asked the guy if I would just have to live with it, he said "I guess so."

Jenn-Air has a defect in the membrane control switch (touch pad). I replaced the clock and touch pad 8 months age and the touch pad failed again. The error is coded F-7 which is a communications error between the touch pad and the clock assembly (the control circuit board). I determined this by removing the touch pad ribbon and the clock flashed 12:00 o'clock after restoring power. This is normal and happens when there is a power outage. Inserting the ribbon causes the F-7 error to recur. I then separated the two green membranes of the touch pad and the error stopped with the ribbon inserted and membranes apart. I reinstalled and the range works fine.

From this I determined that the touch pad buttons were sticking together. In my case it was either the timer 1 or timer 2 button. Since I now know what the problem is, if it happens again I plan to use a small suction cup, like those used on a toy gun, to unstick the buttons by pulling from the front of the touch pad. I also insulated the control board using cotton mat insulation to keep it from overheating.

I have a Jenn-Air dual fuel range model jds8895 I bought it at Home Depot in 2007. I have been using it for all these years and I bake my own bread and cook a lot. Yesterday I was baking in both ovens bread in the bottom oven and muffins in the top; it was about 15 minutes into a 28 minute bake. Fortunately I was standing right in front of the stove when I heard this arcing sound like you hear in the movies when the bad guy is being fried electrically. It lasted about two seconds and to my amazement it suddenly spurted flames coming out the back of the digital control panel. I ran to the garage and flipped the breaker to off and went back in.

Smoke was pouring out and the smell was of insulation burning. Fortunately the fire went out when the electricity was turned off at the breaker, but wow, how can you design a high end product that catches fire before some safety device will shut it down? The thing is I now believe that I know why it happened. After seeing the result of the fire, and the way the control panel is built, and my observations of the actual event. I believe that the steam from the bread baking (I had multiple loaves in the ovens) that was venting as it always does caused the original arcing to start. That overheated the wiring and then became self sustaining as the insulation melted and more wires touched.

The idiots that designed the stove vented the ovens with only a baffle keeping the steam out of the wiring but the thing is the baffle has large gaps at either end. One gap being right where the main power coupling/connection is, so steam can get into the control panel and main control board. I believe that this is also what causes so many control panel failure issues that I have been reading about today as well. I could be wrong I am not an engineer but I can see that you should not allow steam to vent across an electronic control board. It would be like running a dryer vent through your desktop computer. How long do you think that would last? Meanwhile I am out a very expensive stove and I could have lost my house as well.

Thanks Jenn-Air. To be fair I went online to look up the Jenn-Air customer service line and found the live chat thing which I connected with and someone spoke with me briefly online and then immediately called me and scheduled what they called a safety inspection for this Wednesday. At no charge I might add. So four days without a stove...but I already know it is fried and that I don't want the damned thing in my house anymore unless they have a fix for the problem. Which would be to simply cover the connectors and the board so that it is no longer exposed to the venting of the ovens. I will update you all with what happens after the repairman does his safety inspection. From what I have read here I am not optimistic as to the results. But who knows, perhaps the horse will learn to sing.

When we remodeled our kitchen, we purchased a Jenn-Air Slide-in Down draft range. Well, after dying by degrees, the control panel is now totally kaput. Cannot even set the clock. Contacted Jenn-Air customer service and was told this is considered "normal wear and tear", and I would have to replace the part at retail cost, approx. $300. Appliance repair specialists have told me this control panel is a weak link -- it cannot stand up to heat and moisture. (Gee, did the Jenn-Air engineers think self-cleaning ovens would not be subject to heat and moisture? Or did the "suits" at Jenn-Air opt for defective part anyway?) Jenn-Air customer service is horrible: They are trained to say "no" and throw a part failure back in the purchaser's face. A $2200 range should last for many years, not five. Nor should a spare part cost so much. The company knows the part is faulty, yet has never redesigned it to be better because it makes money. I now have a $2200 piece of metal junk. Jenn-Air/Whirlpool products will turn your dream kitchen into a costly maintenance nightmare!

Knobs broke & replaced twice and still cheap plastic knobs broken. Motherboard replaced in 4 years. Igniter replaced twice. Repairman 4 months after motherboard replaced tried to do it again and had to call manufacturer to see why it was going out. Burners would not light again. In all, 12 repairs within 5 years and now another motherboard is out and no warranty. Will cost me $580.00. I will dump this lemon in trash and buy a good range, any other than Jenn-Air. This was a very expensive $1,500 range with $350.00 extended warranty that is not out of use and with the total of $1,850.00 you would expect at least 10 years of use with minor repairs. We have had a Jenn Air SVD48600 down draft gas range in an apartment that has taken a lot of abuse. After 13 years, the connection between the Supply Tube (71002324) and the Pressure Regulator (Y04100249) (see **) started to have a leak - likely because 3 different metals (aluminum, copper and brass) were used to create a compression coupling. (It is a really bad idea to mix different thermal expansion coefficients in a compression fitting.) The repairman said we needed a new Supply Tube (aluminum) and a new Regulator (brass) in order to fix this leak because he could not tighten the connection tightly enough to prevent a leak, but the Supply Tube is completely unavailable and so the repair could not be made.

Sounded like basic plumbing to me, so I simply disconnected the line from the regulator, added a little RectorSeal (which the repairman had clearly not attempted) to the ferrule and put a little LockTight on the nut threads and tightened everything up again, and I could not see any tiny bubbles with soap water like I could before disassembling. There is absolutely nothing special about part number 71002324. It is just an aluminum line with standard connectors on either end. The idea that a repairman can not handle making a seal on a gas line or creating a basic part like this on demand is a little disconcerting.

Since then, the control panel has had to be replaced three times, all for the same reason, poor design. It appears the control panel is located in such a place that heat gets to the unit as it has neither sufficient insulation or decent design location and result is electronic pad failure. The rough opening: The older unit specs were to cut in at 29 1/2 " rough opening. The new unit is 30" so you will have to have your counter top re-cut at your cost. Good luck if you are granite or tile.

The blower: The older unit would vent to the back or down or left or right under the kick space. The new unit is only engineered for back or down draft. The take off from the blower is 5" round. The kick space is 5 1/2" but the brace for the range is 2 1/2" through the middle of the kick space. You cannot get the 5" round vent pipe through the opening without cutting the frame of the range.

We won't even discuss the instructions on placement of the blower to be 2 7/9" from the back wall. What is 7/9" anyway? We had to make it 4 inches. I will never step into a Jenn-Air store again.

Before I proceed, let me tell you that I am considered one of the most patient and forgiving people you would meet. We bought the new downdraft Jenn-Air JGS9900 with the glass top just over a month ago in 3/2013. The salesman at B&B said that it would be so much easier to clean. It was delivered and had a dent on the back and they slid it into the Island without adjusting the height and it ended up sitting on the counter and cracked the glass top. Jenn-Air was nice and had it replaced promptly. We only had about 2 weeks of use on it (total of about 6 times/we don't eat at home all the time).

Cleaning the top is a joke. You have to use special cleaners. It is more than a hassle. We always clean it within 2 hrs of cooking (after entertaining/dinner). Within two weeks, we noticed that we could not clean off a portion of the top as it had strange marks as if it were scratched or looked like water marks. Once again, Jenn-Air was nice and promptly had someone come out. The repairman said they would replace it this one time, but that was it. He expressed that it is a permanent stain from a liquid that must have gotten onto the top.

Are you kidding?! Telling us that it was a permanent stain was horrible and within the week, more stains were appearing that we could not clean off. This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard in my life. We even told Jenn-Air that the repairman should have been embarrassed to even think it was okay to say something like that, in fact, even though we did clean it right away all the time. We did not care if someone let food sit on it for weeks. There is no excuse as to why the top would stain like that. It is a serious flaw in how they made the top.

I personally hate the whole downdraft needs. It was here when we bought the house, so we were stuck. It's $2,600 later basically and this is horrible. The stove does look nice. It's not like we hate the overall stove. B&B Appliance is going to get a negative review as well because you can tell that after the sale, they do not seem engaged in the process. There's nothing worse than a store that is engaged during the sale and after you spend the money, they do not care.

As of 4/11/2013, we have a new glass top sitting in our kitchen and we stopped them from replacing it and called Jenn-Air to look into this (The box even has a hole in it and we called UPS). Why should they replace it just so we could have it stain again within a few uses? It's ridiculous. Any person with a degree of intelligence would be insulted that a stove would do that.

We did see all the bad reviews and some good. We told the salesperson that and he said not to worry. Hmm, and you wonder why we dislike salespeople. Anyone that reads this, feel free to email me personally for updates. I run a company that refuses to ever let a customer down. Hence the reason why we typically dislike salespeople and manufacturers in general as we feel you get the runaround. So I will be very detailed and honest with my future reviews as well. Believe me, I take no pleasure in having to write a bad review.

My review is almost a repetition of the other 1 star reviews I have read and wish I had read the reviews before buying. Our stove model # JES9900BAS was purchased in August 2007 for our new home when we retired. We thought as other buyers, top of the line, but not so. Today was the fourth failure of the control panel. Fortunately, we bought extended warranty which took care of the first two control panel breakdowns, but the third failure in September 2011 cost us almost $500 including labor and travel time.

This afternoon, the exact same failure happened for the fourth time. I was unable to reach our local technical person and to vent my frustration, I called Jenn-Air customer service. The customer service rep was not really able to help as I had not renewed my extended warranty, but she was extremely courteous and did actually offer to replace the panel from their parts department for half price which will be a saving of about $160. Though I appreciate this gesture, I feel that there is a serious problem in the design and certainly would never again buy a Jenn-Air product. Our previous stove served us well for about 25 years with absolutely no problem. But in our new home, we had to have a down draught.

We have had multiple problems including knobs breaking, burners that do not work (element switches defective), and the power control panel that is going on its second repair. The main issue (or danger) is that once you turn the oven on, it will not shut off even though the power control panel shows nothing is on. All you hear is clicking from the oven's relay switches. So, the only way to shut the oven off is from your electrical fuse box. Certainly, it's a potential fire and safety hazard.

Luckily, we were home each time these issues began, but it makes you think twice about baking. I called Jenn-Air and the response was that there are no recalls and it's out of warranty. I learned yesterday the control panel part is no longer available and the tech had sent it out hoping that it could be rebuilt, but no such luck. The control panel was completely fried and not fixable and also it seems to be a common problem. That leaves me with a range in perfectly good shape that is useless and will probably have to be junked. In my opinion, this is such a waste. This morning, I spent a good amount of time speaking to Jenn-Air customer service regarding my problem. I was told in a nutshell there is nothing that can be done and to leave a formal complaint with the company, and also to have a good day!

From the other reviews I have read, I should feel lucky to have had this stove working for me for 12 years based on stories of stoves going out in under 5 years. The range I have is well built and should have lasted longer with the amount of use it was getting. I could have purchased 4 lesser models for the amount I paid and get maybe 10-15 years service from each.

Just a heads up to those who are thinking of buying Jenn-Air ranges with control panels, you might want to consider other brands since Jenn-Air are not always repairable. And to those who already own them, good luck in the future.

Jenn-Air obviously knows there is a problem with these panels. Another thing, two of our stove knobs have broken. Jenn Air Electric Downdraft Stove - Like all of the reviewers, I too was duped into thinking I was buying a quality product. Not so. After less than a year of use, the control panel went blank. I could not control anything on the front panel: the oven, the clock timer, etc. I called Jenn-Air and asked for warranty repair. For the new part, I had to pay $175 for the service call. That's how much the part costs. So I started to take apart the control panel. Here's my electronics background observation: The ribbon wire running from the touchpad to the control unit is brittle and coming apart at the seams. The top layer of plastic has come unglued from the bottom part of the plastic ribbon and the entire ribbon is too brittle. It feels like it will break in two.

Here's my theory (Jenn-Air, are you paying me for this?): The ribbon gets heated up by using the stove. Um, duh? It is a stove. So as I replace the touch pad, I am going to figure out a way to insulate that ribbon wire from the heat of the stove. If I could gain access to the touchpad side of the ribbon, I could test the ribbon with my trusty ohm meter. But, alas, the touchpad is glued into the front panel making access to the touchpad itself difficult, if not impossible. When I get the new unit, I will bust the old one apart to see if I am correct.

Today, for the second time, I ordered a replacement control panel for my Jenn-Air (Model JES9750AAS) glass top down draft range. I bought the range new from Sears a little over 7 years ago. The first control panel stopped working about 6 months before my 5-year warranty expired. The current control panel lasted about 2 and 1/2 years. As was written already, I too am stuck with this frustrating product that is clearly defective in design, quality control, or both. The location of the down draft range in my 25-year-old house would require remodeling the entire kitchen in order to use another type of cooktop or oven. During the 20 years that we have been here, I have had four different Jenn-Air down draft ranges.

The first was already in the house, which was 5 years old when we purchased it and moved in. The oven malfunctioned within months; and I received a new replacement Jenn-Air range, free of charge, from Sears where the original owners had purchased all their appliances when the house was new. Even though the 5-year warranty had already expired by the time we bought the house, Sears stood behind their product because the owner had documented ongoing issues with the oven during the original warranty period. My new replacement oven lasted, I believe without problems, until I purchased a second Jenn-Air range 7 years ago in 2005 when we updated our kitchen with all stainless steel appliances. Then, without giving it much thought, when the control panel on my current oven stopped working the first time 2 and 1/2 years ago, I contacted Jenn-Air instead of Sears for repair. What a mistake that turned out to be!

The first repair 2 and 1/2 years ago was under warranty and handled by Jenn-Air without problems, other than having to wait several weeks for the part to come in. When my control panel malfunctioned for the second time last week, I spoke with Sears about the problem during a conversation about another appliance they are replacing (rather than repairing) under warranty. The Customer Service supervisor I was speaking with informed me that Sears could not help with my range because I had the warranty repair done through Jenn-Air, which meant there was no record in Sears' database of a malfunction during the warranty period. My experience with Jenn-Air Customer Service this time around has been similar to what others have described here - a denial that the product is defective and expressed regret that there is nothing they can do except to assist me is scheduling an expensive repair.

I agree with other comments that there must be some kind of design flaw in this Jenn-Air product. I, too, thought I had a top of the line range; and after my experience over the past 20 years, I would never even consider buying any other Jenn-Air product. For this repair, I ordered the control panel from easyapplianceparts.com for $174.00, plus less than $8.00 shipping and handling. I found installation instructions online; and my husband and I plan to replace the part ourselves.

So far, the part has been covered by the 5-year warranty, but we've spent hundreds of dollars on the installation labor which is not covered. Repeated calls to customer service yielded the same response over and over: "There's no recall on this product; therefore, we are not legally responsible to pay for fixing it if it's not covered by the warranty."

Last month (June 2012), we sent a detailed letter to the address given for customer service. Luckily, replaced under warranty but the burners are still not fully adhered to the new top which makes me think that moisture could seep into the electronic controls. The control knobs are a disgrace, fake brushed nickel look but actually plastic with a cheap coating that shreds over time. Also, the black writing wears off with the slightest cleaning. I have replaced the knobs twice (expensive) and at this point, I would gladly pay more if JA would come up with a quality, compatible, all metal replacement knob.

One major flaw in the design of the gas model became apparent as I used it. While sautéing with the downdraft fan on, as I jerked the pan back and forth, the fat in the pan spattered (normal) but the fan drew the spatters to the center of the range top where they were ignited by the burner, which was also being pulled toward the center by the fan. It could easily start a fat fire! BTW, the fan pulls the burner to the center so you need to move the pan over to stay over the heat. Needless to say, I will not be buying another Jenn-Air product again. I will opt for another brand along with a separate downdraft fan unit.

Now a few years later, it started doing the same thing again. Obviously, the clock with harness has an inherent defect. It was made in Mexico. Maybe, their quality control department should be investigated. I'm already $300.00 in the hole from my first repair. How about a little help, guys? Failed touch panel and or ERC (electronic range control). Some information for everyone who is experiencing failures on their Jenn-Air-Maytag-Whirlpool downdraft ranges. I own an appliance repair company that works on all brands of major appliances. We repair only out of warrantee appliances. We are getting a lot of these repairs on all brands of appliances, and we always explain to the customer the different reasons why these parts are failing. Three different things are causing the majority of these failures.

    1. Broiling with the door open is allowing heat to rise up into the ERC and the touchpad and is damaging these parts (self-cleaning for 3-5 hours can also leak heat into these parts). 2. Power surges! In my area in the greater Seattle-Tacoma area, we think that 80 % of our repairs are power surge related. Most people are familiar with the type of surge that happens when lightning strikes or the wind knocks out your power, but we have surges all the time without any power outages. To prevent these types of repairs we recommend a 2000 joule or higher surge protector be installed on any gas ranges and a whole house surge protector be installed on your house panel for any electric ranges.

    3. Cleaning your touch pad with certain cleaners will allow the chemicals to permeate the membrane and damage the touchpad; so only clean with a mild soap and water and only a slightly damp sponge or paper towel as we don't want any moisture to get behind the panel or the switches. Some of these repairs are factory defects, but the majority of the repairs are not the manufacturer’s faults. There are some brands of appliances where the quality is not there anymore, but from what we see everyday. Whirlpool/KitchenAid is still the best out there. Whirlpool took over Maytag who owned Jenn-Air 3 or 4 years ago. And as an aside, I think that at this time, they are the only manufacturers of the downdraft models without buying a separate downdraft unit. I hope this helps to prevent any more repairs on your units. Good Luck.

I only gave this one star because the repair guy was friendly and very honest.

I purchased it brand new in 7/2008. It sat in the box until 3/2009 because that's when we moved in to our new home. The control panel went out in 6/2011. Now the oven is almost of no use all summer on the account we grill every night. New control panel was ordered and replaced and after hours of service. All was well.

We used the oven less than 10 times since then. In 10/2011, control panel is again not working! Yes, the part is covered by our five-year warranty but that does not cover the service work. And I'm almost 100% positive this has to be done by Jenn Air-approved service people so as to not void your warranty. Which leaves the consumer no choice but to pay for the cost of repair.

Yes, Jenn Air's costumer care center was polite and did tell me what I already knew--part is covered "and we stand by our parts. We apologize for your troubles but the repair costs won't be covered."

I purchased a Jenn-Air Electric Downdraft Range in 2006. The touchpad failed. The repair tech from Electric Express Appliance told us that it was a known design flaw of steam coming from the oven and short circuiting the electronic touchpad. At first, Jenn-Air claimed it was out of warranty. Then, when I mentioned that this part was under an extension, Jenn-Air shipped me a replacement part in 2010, which consequently failed again in 2011.

I called Jenn-Air again in 2011. The CSR claimed to have no record of any known defect with this unit. When I reminded her of the previous replacement, she said it must have been sent out as a courtesy, and there was nothing she could do as it was out of warranty. I asked to speak to a manager. But I was told she could not talk to me at the time. I'm still waiting for the call back, but not expecting anything but grief at this point. I'm recommending to all coworkers, friends, and friends to not buy Jenn-Air products again unless you want to support defective products. I checked my handy-dandy owner's manual, got the part number and took the p/n and the bad bulb to my local appliance dealer for a replacement. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that the p/n was wrong and after much hassle and delay, I was told that instead of simply replacing the bulb, I had to pay $29 for an entirely new fixture! On top of that, I could not simply replace the fixture using the quick-disconnect plug because the plug was up inside the unit. I would have to call a repairman for at least $75! Two months after the warranty was up on our gas range, the electronic control panel stopped working. When I phoned Jenn-Air, they gave me the name of a local authorized repair company, who came and replaced the console--at our expense, of course.

Less than a year later, we had to replace the same part, again at our expense. Here we are less than a year later, and we now need to replace it for the third time. I just got off the phone with Jenn-Air yet again, who informed me that they are very sorry. Unfortunately, the warranty is too far gone; they cannot do anything for us unless we would like them to schedule a service call--which would yet again be at our expense.

As far as I'm concerned, having to replace the same part three times in two years is definitely their problem, and this issue needs to be addressed. Do not buy a Jenn-Air range! Like dozens of others on this site, I have had the touchpad go out (twice, so far) on my $2,100, 3-year-old Jenn-Air Downdraft range. I've searched online and it is clear there is a design defect since I've found literally hundreds, if not thousands, of postings by Jenn-Air range owners who've had the same issue with newer model Jenn-Air ranges. Under the standard warranty, the part is covered for 5 years, but the labor is only covered for the first year.

The first time the touchpad failed, I had to take off of work twice for 2 repair technician service calls to complete the repair. The first visit consisted of a 3-minute check by the technician to confirm the touchpad wasn't working and to record the model number to order the part. That 3 minutes cost $120.00 for the service call even though I provided the part and model numbers when I called for service in the first place. The part was ordered and mailed to my home and the repair technician then returned to install the new part, total effort less than 30 minutes, labor charge an additional $90.00. I guess I should be grateful they didn't charge me another $120.00 service fee as well!

So, a total of $210.00 for about 30 minutes total of labor. The second time the touchpad failed, I called Jenn-Air for a replacement part under warranty, but they wouldn't just mail the part directly to me. I was required to have a certified repair service come out and they would check and order the part. Not wanting to pay another $200+ labor to replace a part that is easy to install, I looked online to see how much the part could be purchased for. I found it for $134. I purchased the part online and replaced it myself.

Being a novice, it took me 45 minutes to do the repair. It was not difficult, but I wanted to be extra cautious and make sure I did it correctly. I saved nearly $80 in labor. My recommendation is if you are thinking of purchasing a Jenn-Air range, do not do it! If you already are unfortunate enough to be a Jenn-Air range owner, depending on the part, consider purchasing and installing parts yourself to save significant money. I was a satisfied Jenn-Air customer for over 12 years, until this past month. I replaced a perfectly good downdraft stove with an updated unit, when I remodeled my kitchen two years ago. I liked the larger oven, and the ability to use the new oven for proofing bread, as well as the option of using convection. Regrettably, on Feb 16th, I noticed that I no longer could use the timers on my stove, as the touch panel would not respond. I shut the power off at the breaker, hoping that it was an electrical glitch, but lo and behold, it only spread as two hours later, I could not use my oven, or any items on the unit that were controlled by the touch panel. I immediately called this failure in, and received an appointment for a repair person for, get this, three (3) days later. On February 25th, I still had not seen the repair personnel, because they could not get the touch pad from their distributor.

After over four different and long calls to the 800 number in my stove manual on Feb 25th, I was connected to Ms. **, who easily resolved the part dilemma, with the offending part ordered, and shipped directly to me on the 26th. I'm not sure what the difference was, but the three earlier respondents that day were rude, and included one that disconnected me. The parts were finally replaced today, March 4, 2010, in well under an hour. My complaint is twofold. The atrocious service received during my first three attempts to investigate why my repair personnel could not locate my part, for a stove that was only two years old, and the fact that a two year old, $1,500 stove failed.

I'm quite disappointed in the quality of this unit, especially in comparison to the previous one that was still going strong at 16 years of age. If I have an option, Jenn-Air will not be on my list in the future, as it is unacceptable to have a control panel fail at this stage in the product's life cycle. It is also unacceptable to have no parts available within your distribution chain. I'd also appreciate an apology from the initial respondent, who clearly informed me that the stove was made in the USA, even though the part is clearly labeled as made in Mexico. Your staff should be trained to understand the difference between assembled and made. I was unable to use the oven. Thank goodness the burners had old fashioned relay controls.

A few months after cooking on it, she noticed the control panel blinking and beeping and then it stopped and was okay. This happened 2 or 3 times. After 10 months, it went out altogether and we had it replaced. One month later, it went out again and we had it replaced. Now, here it is 5 months later and here we go again, but wait the original warranty is now out.

The control panel starts out by blinking and turning on to the cleaning mode, or just turns on the oven in the middle of the night. My wife is afraid it will start a fire one day. And now we have to start over with the extended warranty. Now, when the control panel goes out 3 more times, and we are sure it will since the design of the range puts the control panel directly over the heat of the back burners, it will then qualify under the lemon laws in the state of Virginia. Never mind the week or more each time, she cannot cook while we wait for the repair company to get the part to fix it. Also, the right front burner has never lit and has been replaced once and still does not light. We would be interested in any class action against Jenn-Air.

In July 2007, I bought a Jenn Air Range for $2,681.69. The model No. is JES900BAB and the serial No. is 15510931LL. Whenever someone walks by the range and brushes up against the knobs, the burners will turn on. Several times when I used the oven, it would turn off and give me a message, Feature not available.
On December 18, 2008, my oven stopped working. I called Maytag the next day. They gave me the name of three authorized dealers. I contacted Appliance Work Center, Calvin Lee. Mr. Lee came out to my home December 23, 2008. He did not appear to be knowledgeable with my Jenn Air range. He called an engineer and spent a great deal of time on the phone with the engineer. Mr. Lee informed me the control panel needed to be replaced and he would not be able to get the part by Christmas. After several weeks, I had not heard from Mr. Lee so I called him. He said the part was on back order. He came to my house January 27, 2009, with the wrong part. He called the engineer and the engineer told him he had the right part. After the two went back and forth several times, It is the right part. No it is not the right part, Mr. Lee tried to install the part. It was the wrong part. Mr. Lee left and some time later he called me to say he had received another part, but it was the same part that was shipped the first time. On February 3, 2009, I called Maytag and requested that my range be replaced and my old range be repaired and sold as refurbished. They informed me that a technician had been out to my house to repair my range and a part was on order. I informed them that I was going to contact the NC State Attorney General's office and file a complaint. Linda Eckwright with Maytag contacted me February 23, 2009, and stated she had a complaint that I filed with the NC State Attorney General's Office. She stated they were working hard to get the part. Ms. Eckwright called me again March 2, 2009, to say they could not get the part -- it was labeled wrong so the wrong part continued to be shipped. Ms. Eckwright called me again March 10, 2009. She told me every thing I wanted to hear, my range would be replaced at no charge, my warranty would start new, they wanted to satisfy their customers, she would give me a loaner range until my new one arrived, she would expedite my order, and she would contact me the next day to schedule delivery and hook up. I have not heard from Mrs. Eckwright again and I still have the same range. The NC State Attorney General's Office sent me a copy of the first letter they wrote Maytag dated February 10, 2009, informing Maytag they had 10 days to respond back to the NC State Attorney General's Office. The NC State Attorney General's Office sent me a copy of a second letter dated March 10, 2009, they wrote Maytag informing Maytag they had not responded to their first letter.

    I bought JENN-AIR GAS
DOWNDRAFT SLIDE-IN RANGE JGS9900BDB in April 2007, from Maytag store for $2500.00 plus tax. Here my first problem the first day we got it, in range burners igniters 'click' constantly - all 4 at once. The service man came over took it apart, after he worked on ut he said my outlet switch cause that so we changed the outlet to a diffrent one. (That's surprised me because we had been using that outlet for the old range didn't seem to have any problem) Not too long after those Click came again but now at least they didn't stay on awhole time while I was cooking. And when I clean the top surface sometime I got little electric shock. I jst ignored and lived with it..Until......7 or 8 months later,The electric control panel went dead I had to call the service man again(the first service man from Sears and 2nd from Maytag) to changed the control. I asked him about the click sound he had no idea. Ofcourse it didn't make that sond when he was there. He offered me to buy 3 years extension warranty about $85. He told me it worth for this stove. He filled po the paperwork and I gave him my credit card information. I was so sure if there any more problem I didn't have to worried for another 3 yrs.

In Feb. 2006 we purchased a model #JDR8895AAB dual fuel Jenn-Air Range. In July of that year it suddenly started clicking, arcing and chemical smoke pouring out of the area around the control knobs. We assumed moisture had gotten under the knobs while cleaning. Jenn-Air replaced the parts since it was under warranty.
On 2/5/09 the exact thing happened when a small amount of moisture from a cleaning cloth got under the knobs while I was cleaning. I called Jenn-Air and asked to be partially reimbursed, I no longer want this stove since it is dangerous. My request was denied and as a gesture of goodwill Jenn-air will again repair the stove.

Our 23 year old Jenn-Air Convection slide-in range needed replaced. It had served our family well and we didn't want to settle for anything else. Went to our local appliance store and placed the order; when it arrived weeks later it came with the grill...that's it! There was no radiant cooktop cartridge; just an empty bay. No way to boil water or saute an onion...only grill! When I inquired with the store assuming that the cartridge was on the truck, I was told that the range was not sold with a cartridge and after spending $2,000 I needed to spend $375 more to get one...Are you kidding me? Outrageous! I emailed Jenn-Air who didn't think it was a problem to post a picture of the range with a cartridge in the bay. I'm digusted and it isn't even hooked up yet!

My Jenn-air floating glass top slide-in downdraft range arrived with a cracked glass top on June 13, 2008. The glass top was replaced by Jenn-air on July 29, 2008. On August 14, 2008 I was cooking with 2 burners and we heard a strange sound, and low and behold, the top cracked! I called the dealer (Percys in Worcester, MA) who said they've never heard of this, but they will contact Jenn-air to get authorization to replace the top again. Stand by for updates. The glass top cracked completely from one burner to the back. Luckily, the stove is still usable. So far I have been happy with the stove performance.

In Dec 2005 we purchased a Jenn Air 5 burner gas range (model #JGR8775QDS -evidently the QDS stands for Quality Deficient Stove) High priced but I thought Jenn Air was a company that made a quality product and would stand by their product. Only about a year and a half later the control panel developed a problem-no longer under warranty the repair would cost over $400- to fix so right now I live with it (I can't get certain temperatures in the oven.) Now the stove top controls are breaking. They are plastic - made to look like stainless -but cheap plastic and JennAir wants about $ 12 a piece plus shipping. The company offers no apology, only rude customer service reps who state the cost of the repair.

What is next? Since it is a gas range should I fear the next malfunction or breakage of some other cheap part? I really don't have another $ 1000 to buy another range or to set aside for the continuing repairs on the one I have. I bought this expensive range because I thought it would last. My husband and I are trying to save for our retirement and wanted to buy quality so that we wouldnt have to buy another one again (my husband said to 'buy the last one you'll ever need') We don't want to be an expensive burden on our children but it seems companies like Jenn Air don't mind a bit being an expensive burden on their customers! I will be watching the news to hear of Jenn Air going out of business - I won't be at all surprised.

Our Jenn Air range is only five years old and we didn't cook very much over the last four years. Due to dietary changes, we have begun cooking at home more frequently. Last month we discovered that the four and the one on the touch pad were no longer working. Finding the replacement part was excrutiating. The Jenn Air rep finally decided that we needed to replace the clock w/harness. I ordered the part (over $200) and was told it would arrive in 7-10 days. Twenty one days later, I called to check the status and find that the part is on back order and they can't tell me when it will be available.

Basically, we have a stove that will only cook below 400 or over 500. My children can no longer bake for their school parties and we have to cook for much longer periods on lower temps. We are disappointed and disgusted that Jenn Air not only makes an inferior product, but they don't even keep parts so that it can be repaired when it fails. Replacement is not an option at this time - especially since we invested almost $2,000 only five years ago.

At this time, we are without the services of most of the oven and as a result have to either cook foods that don't require temps over 400 or cook food longer. It is inconvenient at best and very aggrevating that the company does not provide the parts necessary to repair their design flaws.

The glass top of my JES9800AA slide in electric range broke late April. I contact Jenn Air and was told the part only was under warranty. They told me I had to have the problem diagnosed . I paid $68 for a company to come out and tell me the top was broken. The tech ordered the part and scheduled the repair for May 7. May 6 the part had not arrive so I called the repair company. They referred me to Jenn Air.

Jenn Air said they would forward my problem to another dept. and would get back with me in 24-48 hours. 48 hrs later I called back and was told the part was on back order until June 6. I asked for quicker response. Was told someone would get back to me in 24-48 hours. 48 hrs later I called back. Was told the Expedited Team was still searching for a part. I asked to speak to a supervisor.

Customer service rep said well, perhaps another supplier would have the part. Check back in 24-48 hours. 48 hrs later I call and still no part. Mind you, the range is less than 5 years old. I speak to the supervisor who forwards my request to the exchange dept.

On May 13th whirlpool calls and offers an exchange of a 2008 equivalent to my range. I agreed thinking I would get a range of equal or better quality. They said I had to pay $305. for the difference? Which I did. 10 days later the range arrives. It does not fit into the same opening. Part of the counter needs removed. The installation company said Whirlpool makes them charge the customer for any additional costs ($120) or my husband could do it. My husband agreed to my dismay.

The range is sitting in the middle of my kitchen. I asked the installer to plug the range in to be sure it worked. The range arc-ed when it was plugged in - sparks flew. He contacted Whirlpool who said they could send a tech out (NO) or replace it in 7-10 days. I agreed on replacement but have since changed my mind. I just want my money back and have nothing further to do with Jennair, Maytag, Whirlpool. The customer service is horrible. The range the replaced mine with is inferior in quality. I contacted customer service again and they tell me sorry, but since you agreed to the replacement we will not refund your money.

For the past month my family has had to eat out more often than not (there's only so many meals you can microwave), I've missed work for the installation. I asked the supervisor to speak to his supervisor and he told me no. Can you believe it! He said the line stops here. I asked him if he was the president of whirlpool and he said no. I asked for his supervisor's phone number so that I may proceed with my complaint and he said NO. I am contacting an attorney.

Pray for me. We have incurred additional costs of eating out, time off work. The emotional stress is overwhelming. I never thought Jenn-Air would treat their customers this way. When you purchase a $1600 range you would think you were getting top quality and quality customer service to go with it. Not so. This is heartbreaking to me. I cannot believe a customer service supervisor would tell me they will not give me a means to continue my compaint.
