It’s 100% waste of money, they cover almost nothing and what they do cover they will search for any and all loopholes not to cover damage. That’s After you might wait 6-8 months before hearing back from them. They attempt to run out clock on your plan. No concept of customer service. I actually just purchased furniture for another room from a different company because of this “protection plan” so because of them, Bob's is missing out on sales.

I purchased a couch from Bob's Discount Furniture and additionally purchased a 5 year warranty from Guardian. After just having the couch for a few months, the bottom frame and seam started to separate on a nearly new couch with hardly ANY wear. Guardian send a technician over to fix the issue which resulted in the couch being nailed together. I was skeptical that it would be enough to resolve the issue but since I had a 5 year warranty, I waited to see if any issues arose after "the fix". Well, this same issue happened again because the frame is cheap and they are refusing to cover the damages. This couch is only used for its intended purpose should be covered by the warranty as it was the first time, as this should be considered accidental at the very least. All I do is sit on the couch and it's falling apart on both sides?? They are refusing to help me and their customer service is awful.

I purchased a furniture protection plan after purchasing a sectional several years ago. Several months ago, I noticed that the electrical cord on one of the recliners had frayed (after receiving a nasty electrical shock). Though it was obviously a fire hazard, it took months to get an appt for a technician to come, after sending pics along with all of the other rigmarole. The 1st time they came, it was on the wrong day & nobody was at home. I responded to the text immediately & said that I could be there in 30 minutes but the driver said they had already left the area. I made another appointment for last Friday (the least convenient day for me, but that's all they could offer me). I had my son go over & he waited all day. No call-no show. I sent an email & a text & heard back yesterday that they were going to call me in a few minutes. Never received a call. I would not recommend purchasing one of these plans as it is a major hassle trying to file a claim. I'll never purchase one again.

I put in a claim for a broken recliner. I sent pictures. Filled out all the necessary paperwork and made all the necessary phone calls. The tech showed up without the parts to fix it. Told me the parts would arrive at my house. After waiting and calling Guardian after months they finally said they would replace the recliner. I waited for months for the email from Guardian. I called Bob's. They didn’t receive the credit after. A year they said the warranty expired. So did the credit. And they had no record of the claim or the messages between me and them. There’s a lot more to the story. It was over a year and I just found out today they will not be covering any of the pieces in my set. It’s a good warranty, but it’s a full time job from the time you put your claim in to the day they honor it. It was a complete nightmare.

This company is a scam, don't waste your time purchasing a warranty from any furniture store that tries to give you this sales pitch. The company is very understaffed and it's extremely hard to reach a person over the phone the first 3 hours of the day they only have one person answering the phones. They will open a claim, approve the claim and send a tech to your home, but if the tech has to order any parts they will never fill the order and eventually close your claim as an ineligible repair. I've had 3 claims in and waited for months to get parts replaced and it has never happened. When you do reach a customer service rep they will apologize and give you some excuse and reopen the claim and the process starts all over again. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY WITH THIS COMPANY.

They only have 1 star because I am not allowed to give them 0. When you are in Bob's Furniture Store, they are quick to encourage this foolish warranty plan, stating that you can get UNLIMITED service, your furniture replaced or fixed for just about anything easily, for the next 5 years. That is a complete lie. They will never replace anything, will at most give you a voucher for much less than what you paid for any item.

I have had had an accidental stain on one of my 4 chairs, Tried to put in a request, they declined a fix or replacement, but they did offer a voucher, which you would assumed would be the price of the chair, but is nowhere near close. And what is worse, is that afterwards I had a different issue on a different chair but cannot submit any claims because I have already "collected" from a claim.

I let them know I have 4 chairs, one bench and a table and this claim is for another part of the set, and I don't see how my 5 year unlimited service can be cut off for one chair when this is a 6 piece set. I didn't just pay insurance for one chair. And the voucher nowhere near covers the cost of a chair anyway (and I had to fight tooth and nail for even that). I was promised a phone call I never got, and sat on hold and was never answered. This is absolutely terrible service. Please do yourself a favor and avoid at all costs.

Technician came by house and indicated that anything is fixable because I was hesitant that my sofa couldn't be fixed but he said that someone will call me in a few days to see what can be done. No one called, but instead I received an email saying that my case was closed due to it being over 30 days and not adequate for service. We have been living in our home for 11 years now and had Guardian Protection from the beginning even during signing the home contract with our home builder. Guardian did not only install all our security system, they also installed a sound system over two floors. We purchased monitoring for security. Because of a recent incidence when the fire alarm went off we ran to the box and tried to disarm the fire alarm but we were not successful. I pressed the fire button for a good while but the monitoring team did not respond at all. Because right around Christmas the alarm started while cooking dinner in an Airfryer. That day the security monitoring team from Guardian responded. We contacted Guardian and asked what was happening. They told us that they had installed 2 smoke detectors, one on the upper floor and one on the basement and that's all at the time we moved into this brand new home.

They said they don't monitor the builders smoke detectors and they never installed a smoke detector on the first floor where the kitchen is etc. They had never informed us about that issue. We couldn't tell the smoke detectors apart and we were never told that we needed to tell Guardian that we need a smoke detector on the first floor. Can you believe this? Questions of why a security company would only install 2 smoke detectors and not even one on the main floor with the kitchen? So if you are a new homeowner make sure that you asked the company that will put in your security system if that works for all floors. In our case the system should have alarmed the monitoring team because I manually activated the alarm system.

We can have one installed for $125.00 but the issue is that we paid monthly since 11 years and were not aware that we did not have a monitoring service for a fire alarm smoke detector on the ground floor. I am still in disbelief. 11 years without protection on the first floor and Guardian still does not feel that they should have advised us at the time of installation. Good luck with Guardian, I don't trust them anymore.

Their most recent attempt is that because I didn't report a "specific incident" on the initial call it us not eligible. I reported the date, time, and circumstances over the phone and they filed the paperwork. Seems like they intentionally left off the description so they could find a reason to not cover it. However less than two years after purchasing the couch the zipper completely split in two places on one cushion, so I submitted it for warranty (no not covered). Then 6 months later, the back frame of the couch actually comes apart poking three holes through the back fabric of the cushion (no not covered either). This is the most ridiculous warranty ever. I get an email stating that they don't have any techs in my area so they will have to replace it instead, ok great. NOPE, I get a follow up email stating that was wrong on their part and that isn't covered either.

When I call and request a call back I basically get told that my plan doesn't cover any of the things that happened to my furniture, how convenient...Oh but it covers spills or pet stains. My claim for damages was denied because they said I moved the furniture to another location or a storage and they do not cover scratches. When I called and asked about the denial, they said whether it was moved inside my home or not, it would have been denied because they do not cover scratches. They should honor their warranty.

In the past four years, I only made one claim when one of the recliners would not recline. That was about 2 or 3 years ago. It's not like I'm trying to rip them off with ridiculous claims. Like I said, a total waste of money, time, and effort. I'm just happy that I purchased a good product and did not need many repairs because it does not seem like Guardian would honor them. I've had better experience and more success with protection plans purchased when buying Wal-Mart products. I would have given zero stars, but I had to pick at least one to move on in the process.

Purchased a top of the line Serta Mattress from Wolf Furniture Store with extended warranty from Guardian Insurance. After 7 years the pillow top on the mattress started to waffle and separate from the mattress. We were relieved when we pulled our paperwork and had paid for the warranty for 10 years. This meant we were within the timeline of our warranty coverage. We contacted in November of 2021 Guardian and were emailed a claim submission number and claim form to fill out. Sent in the claim form and it was denied indicating that it hadn't reached their facility within the claims submission deadline. They indicated that we were to file again with a new claim registration number for it to be reconsidered which was done within a week of the initial denial in December of 2021.

This second claim was also denied stating that per "section 2" of the outlined warranty we paid for that the problem with our mattress was not covered. I then called the Guardian number given on the denial email and waited 21 minutes and 11 seconds for the representative to take my call. On answering my call the man pulled up our claim and said that we should have received a email denying our claim. Explaining we had and that's why we were calling. He began reading what had been said in the email. We explained we wanted more clarification as to why an obvious defect would not be covered under a warranty we paid for. He replied "because it isn't" to which our response was "So we basically paid for nothing, which makes this warranty a scam."

We then told the representative we intended to file a complaint with The US Dept of Consumer Affairs, Better Business Bureau and before I could say anything else he abruptly hung up on me. I fully intend to carry out my treat against this company who willfully and knowingly have no intention of honoring the warranties that consumers have paid for to protect their purchases only to be denied and lied to. It's a blatant scam upheld by these unscrupulous furniture companies.

Guardian Protection Products, Inc. is a total cheat, scam, and deceiving business. I have an existing products policy for the company and struggle to process my claim for ten months. My policy number is **. The policy is a sofa set. I filed a claim with GPP for my covered products in February 2021; after multiple calls and numerous emails, I was able to have one of Guardian’s technicians visit my house after three months. He found the covered items eligible for the claim but apparently didn’t file a complete report. The Technician in my house promised me that he would report every issue in its entirety; however, he lied to me, and after he only reported partial item damages, not everything. After months of discussion, Guardian partially approved my claim and told me they would send a check to the store from which I had purchased the items.

Guardian in over 15 emails confirmed that a check had already been sent to the furniture store, but every time I checked with the furniture store, they told me a check had not been received. After multiple attempts and dozens of emails, I was able to connect with a Supervisor at Guardian; her name was Maria, and her ID was # 204. I explained the whole story to Maria, and she sincerely apologized on behalf of Guardian and confirmed to me that the Guardian employees had lied to me and that a check had not been sent to the furniture store. She told me that she would send the within one week; she even sent me an email and in the email confirmed that a check was not sent and that she would send it. Maria promised that by October 8th, the check would be 100% sent to the furniture store.

Since talking to Maria on September 28th, until today, November 27th, I have been regularly calling the furniture store, and they tell me that they have not received a check for me from Guardian. Maria also apologized on behalf of the Technician who had not reported the whole issue and asked me to open a new claim in her conversation. I immediately opened a new claim, but since then, I have sent over ten emails and reminders to Maria and the rest of the GPP staff and claims team, but none of them responded to my queries or calls. I have email proofs from Guardian confirming their lies and the fact that this business is basically stealing people’s money but doesn’t offer any services back. I will be happy to provide copies of email communications from Guardian and people not to be cheated by this deceiving business.

We purchase a sectional sofa in July 2019. We have been very happy until in September 2020 (2 months after our manufacturer warranty ended) the frame on our armless recliner bent. I contacted Guardian via phone and was told to submit pictures after describing that the footrest was broken during normal use. They declined the claim. I called back not understanding why the claim was denied. Guardian informed me that since the frame was bent during normal use, they would not honor the claim. They would only honor the claim if the frame was bent as a result of an accident occurring to the recliner. When I told them this may be the result of something with the motor since it was making a noise, they agreed to send a technician to investigate.

The technician told us that the frame was bent, that this happens often and he would send pictures to guardian. They declined the claim again. If I had said my husband fell on the chair, they would fix it. I do not agree that this was "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR" on a 14 month old piece of furniture. When I spoke to Alex (a manager of the Hunt Valley, MD location), he felt this should be repaired through the Goof Proof protection. I do not feel the Goof Proof is explained well enough that this will only cover a literal accident. I am not comfortable spending money for furniture that will only last 14 months.

Guardian Protection Products is a waste of money. They refuse to cover furniture claims that are clearly defined in their own documentation as items that will be covered, even with pictures. We purchased a brand new sectional from Bob's Discount Furniture on 10/21/18. We were told the couch we purchased (LUXE) was the 2nd most popular sectional. In addition to the purchase of the couch, we also purchased the Goof Proof Warranty from Guardian Protection Products the salesman recommended for 150.00. From the time of purchase to now (9/27/20) we have had 3 technicians at the house for various problems with the couch. Both the left and right arms of the chaises have divots, the cushion casings have torn, and the left-facing chaise now has multiple sharp protrusions in the back, which presents a safety issue.

The divot fix only lasted a few months, and the technician who came to the house to replace the cushion casings, put them on in such a way that the casing seams don't line up with the ends of the cushions. For the protrusions, I filed a claim with Guardian. The first Guardian rep said the claim would not be covered because it had occurred when I pulled the couch out to clean, which was not true and a statement I did not make. I told him I noticed the protrusion when I pulled the couch out to clean the wall.

After calling to speak with another Guardian rep. regarding the incident, she apologized for the first rep's explanation, and said the claim's denial is actually due to us not being aware of the exact cause of the protrusion. I then filed a complaint with Bob's Customer Care; they refused to offer a replacement to the chaise or send a technician to examine the damage free of charge because the one year manufacturing warranty expired and recommended I file a complaint with Guardian.

After filing an additional claim with Guardian due to the protrusions getting worse and increasing in number after sitting back on the chaise, the following is what I received via email, denying the claim "You reported that the damage to your furniture occurred while leaning back. While we understand the furniture was not intentionally damaged, leaning back is the intended use of the furniture. The plan you purchased protects your furniture from accidents you cause to the furniture and excludes damage that occurs from normal use." We now have a couch, less than two years old, that is dangerous and neither Bob's Discount Furniture or Guardian Protection Plans will take any action to resolve the issue.

So what is the point of having a protection? If the kids accidentally damage the bed set, why isn't it covered. They make up things as they go. So the supervisor told me that each items has a multiple damages, and I said let's go picture by picture and see what the multiple damages are.

She refused to look at the pictures with me and kept saying kids actions can be stopped. How can I predict what the kids will do. I purchased a 5 year Guardian Product Protection plan through Bob's Furniture (The Goof Proof Plan) on my children's bunk beds. I was completely misled by the salesperson that ANY damage to the bed would be covered, including if my child jumped up and down on the bed and it broke. The coverage by Guardian is absolutely ridiculous and not worth the money spent. I would NOT RECOMMEND purchasing their plan due to the narrow type of damage/accidents that are actually covered.

    The damages:
    1) My son jumped into the bed to go to bed, not meaning to damage it and not misusing it, but one of the wooden support slats completely broke under the mattress.

    2) My other son ran up the stairs to get to the top bunk and the wood on the front stair broke off - about a 1 inch piece the length of the entire step.

Apparently, NEITHER of these items are covered. The contract states these are covered:

    1) PRODUCT SPECIFIC COVERAGE: #2. WOOD AND HARD SURFACE FURNITURE: Section b. Accidental breakage of wood frame or structure or other hard surface from specific incident.

    2) COVERAGE: • The Plan covers materials and labor costs to service your furniture item(s) in the event a furniture item becomes accidentally damaged during normal residential use...

    3) NOTE: ...This Plan covers defects in workmanship and/or material of your covered furniture item(s) and, if applicable, accidental damage from normal household use, as described herein.

HOWEVER, UNDER 'EXCLUSIONS TO COVERAGE, THIS MAKES ALL THAT NULL AND VOID: Unknown stains; color loss, fading, and discoloration; all normal wear and tear, including damage that cannot be attributed to a single relatable incident. THAT is the line that supposedly means 'normal usage' and why damage under normal usage is not covered. Makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE. AND if my son 'accidentally fell' onto the stairs and they broke, that would be covered. Running up the stairs is NOT, for some insane reason. But, that was only for the STAIRS. Apparently the slats are NOT covered due to them not being a painted part of the bed. Was NEVER told that anything underneath was and unpainted was not covered under the plan when being walked through coverage by the Bob's Furniture salesperson. I was misled by Bob's Furniture sales and am completely unhappy with this entire situation.

The warranty was activated on 3/4/18, will expire on 3/4/23, and the information states that the warranty will provide up to $299.00 in coverage for new furniture.

11/21-22/19, I made several calls to Bob's Customer Service and Guardian Protection Products, Inc. for assistance and was not able to find a resolution. The Customer Service Rep from Guardian Protection Products, Inc. informed me that since the bed broke and it was not accidental, they would not grant the repair claim. The support legs on the bed have broken three times.

I called Bobs Customer Care and they told me to call Guardian Protection Products - I was informed that internal documents, service repair reports are not provided to customers; it is only for the company records. I asked for copies of the reports complete by the repair technicians and was informed the following: 8/9/18 - Guardian Protection Products Technician notes: repaired/tightened loose slat support leg; the cracked leg, and it was determined not to be a manufacturing defect.

9/16/19 - Guardian Protection Products Cursory technician notes: repaired/tighten loose slat support leg; the leg was cracked, not a manufacturing issue. 11/8/19 - I called Guardian Protection Products to file another claim because two legs had broke again on the bed; (left front) and middle loose slat support leg. Claim denied for repairs.

I have requested credit from Bob's Discount Furniture to select another bed. Bob's Furniture denied my request and stated that I would have to pay for repairs. Guardian Protection Products refuse to issue me a refund or repair the furniture. I have requested a copy of both service reports - informed that internal documents, service repair reports are not given to customers. The continued breakage of the product could fall under two defects: manufacturing defect or design defect. In the law of products liability, a manufacturing defect is a defect in a product that was not intended. This kind of defect occurs when a product departs from its intended design and is more dangerous than consumers expect the product to be. The leg breaking was no intended; it just happened.

In the law of products liability, a design defect exists when a defect is inherent in the design of the product itself. In a products liability case, a plaintiff can only establish a design defect exists when he proves there is hypothetical alternative design that would be safer that the original design, as economically feasible as the original design, and as practical as the original design, retaining the primary purpose behind the original design despite the changes made.

Per the notes of the service repair technician on 9/16/19 - Cursory technician notes: repaired/tightened loose slat support leg; leg is cracked, and this is not a manufacturing issue. There was a present issue, a cracked leg, and the repair technician neglected to repair it. Neglecting to repair the leg upon inspection later resulted in the breakage of the leg again, along with the middle support slacks.

I purchased a beautiful 2 piece furniture set from Harlem Furniture which unfortunately has turned out to be a horrendous experience. The bed had a piece of the inner wood lining of the bed. Railing break off after about 2 yrs of use. I wouldn't rate any stars for this company if it was possible. I submitted a claim and was told the breakage in wood was not subject to warranty. We have to hold the bed up with boxes and some tape to continue to use it and it is completely useless to all intents and purposes as there is no repair plan or replacement for damaged parts.

I quote the response verbatim: "The plan you purchased does cover your furniture for accidental breakage of the frames however any damage caused by an unauthorized cleaning or repair attempt is not a coverage of your plan. The photos indicate that you used tape to tape the rails. Putting tape on the bed rail is an unauthorized cleaning or repair attempt and excluded from the coverage of this plan". This company is a scam and should be shut down from operations. Buyers beware!

We purchased $2,000.00 worth of living room furniture from Bob’s Furniture in November, 2018. We added the Guardian Protection Plan because we were told it “literally covers everything” and were also told it lasted as long as we had the furniture (but that’s another issue and I’ll take it up with Bob’s). Recently a bar in the footrest of my oversized recliner completely snapped, rendering it practically useless. I contacted Guardian to file a claim but due to a miscommunication with my spouse, and the fact that I was dealing with work at the time, I unfortunately failed to list what they would deem a valid reason as to how this happened (we’ve all hurriedly completed things when we have a million other things going on, right?).

The claim comes back almost immediately denied because I said I was unaware of how it became broken, I later discovered from my wife it was due to our 85lb dog jumping on it (again, another issue) and so I contacted customer service to see about amending the claim. The agent was rude, of course, and gave me the email to a different department who has now also come back with a denial. So all because I selected the wrong option (aka anything other than a specific “accident” because that is literally the ONLY thing these plans cover) I now have a $600 recliner that does not recline! Let me make this abundantly clear, this company takes your money and has no intention of ever hearing from you again.

If you happen to file a claim, they make you go through a ridiculous amount of red tape with questions that are set up to confuse you, just so they can come back and deny your claim for not answering the questions correctly. They will then refuse to change or review anything because you agreed to that ridiculous arrangement when you filed the claim in the first place! This company is a scam. DO NOT BUY THEIR PLANS, THEY WON’T FIX YOUR STUFF ANYWAY!!!

The protection plan is worthless. Takes 2 months to get a rude person to come out and clean the stained furniture, and they don't even have the correct equipment to do it. The guy had to use our mop bucket to clean his hose. The couch now smells even worse than it did to begin with, we call to see if anything can be done, turns out the plan ONLY PROTECTS THE FABRIC and NOT the cushion itself. We were also told that the cleaning solution they use sometimes leaves a bad smell and there's nothing they can do about it. Absolutely horrible company and definitely not worth the money because you'll still have to buy a replacement.

Our dog jumped on the couch causing the leather arm rest to rip loose from the couch. Our policy (section 2a) covered "Rips, cuts, punctures or burns from a single relatable occurrence." This clearly covers my situation. Guardian responded to or claim #** and denied it stating "your plan covers accidental rips but not seam separations." This is clearly and accidental rip situation. Also, I can't find anywhere in the policy where "seam separations" are not covered.

This is regarding 6 pcs sectional power recliner sofa I bought from Bob's Furniture 3 years ago with Goof Proof protection plan. Now earlier this month one of the sofa chair framework broke while person suddenly sat due to loss of balance. The sofa chair literally went down. When I filed a claim, with mentioning this as a specific incident, it was denied saying that "damage to your furniture occurred while sitting. While we understand the furniture was not intentionally damaged, sitting on the furniture is the intended use of the furniture." Of course it was not usual sitting on sofa. What kind of normal sitting will break the sofa? Sofas are meant to be sit on and not supposed to break them when you sit. It can happen only when the circumstances are unusual.

The incident I mentioned, It was one time accident where the person (little overweight) had to sit all of a sudden due to loss of balance with kid in the hand to avoid physical injury to self and child. I tried to call but the customer support is closed with only online chat option, which redirected me to file claim online. The claim assessor also mentioned that "this is a final determination". That means I was never given any opportunity to submit any other details or explain exactly what happened.

We sit on all other chairs and parts of sofa all the times and this has never happened. While only this scenario has caused the resulting damage, this incident should not be considered under normal use. Another thing I noticed. At the bottom of the claim assessment email It's not clear whether to respond to this email or not as it says: "Responses to this email are not received. Reply to this email to respond." I emailed to customer care but never heard back. Very unprofessional and upsetting.

Do not buy the so-called protection plans from this company! When we purchased this stain protection plan, the salesman told us how great it was - that if you have any stains, doesn't matter what - marker, food, etc etc - just call them up and they will remove them or replace the furniture if they can't get the stains out. It sounded like a great deal. We walked out with the Guardian flyer and a certificate saying we were covered.

We have several young kids, so lo and behold, a couple years after purchasing, we ended up with several stains over a short period of time. When we filed the claim, my wife explained the different stains and approximately when each one happened. They were friendly enough and said they would email the claim number and to reply with the pictures. We got the email, and replied with pictures. They say they will reply in 2-3 days, but we did not get a response. We were getting close to the date where they say the claim will be permanently closed, so my wife had to call them to process our claim.

Well, they processed our claim quick enough then. Processed it quick and said that our claim was rejected. Rejected because there were multiple stains. Apparently they will only cover a stain from a SINGLE incident. First of all, this was NEVER mentioned by the salesman. Second, we NEVER received any of the plan's exclusions and fine print that allows them to reject just about anything. (I guess we were a bit naive and a little too trusting.) This was also NEVER brought up when my wife was discussing the stains with them on the phone. What difference does it make if the stains occur soon together? The protection plan is supposed to be, and was pushed to us as, covering any and all stains in the 5 year period. Apparently as long as you only file a claim for one stain at a time. Otherwise they will reject your whole claim. WHAT A JOKE!

Moreover, they stated that we must get our sectional professionally cleaned and provide the documentation, or all further claims that we have will not be covered. Are you kidding me??! We purchased this plan for that reason. Guardian was supposed to be our professional cleaner. A word of advice, instead of buying this plan, just save your money and use it to hire a professional cleaner later. You will likely have to anyways after Guardian rejects your legitimate claims.

Our salesman also told us that if we didn't use the plan, we would get the money back in store credit to apply to a purchase over a certain dollar amount. It seemed like a win-win when we bought it. Now I'm seriously wondering if we will get screwed out of that too since we "filed a claim". This company is nothing more than a scam operation operating under the guise of a legitimate-sounding company name.

Obviously it was an accident as the sectional piece was the armless insert and in perfect condition with the exception of two small rips on the lower back where it got caught on the door hinges and ripped. The claim was denied because the piece was in transit. I did state on the phone interview that we are moving and that’s why I was moving the piece from one room to the next. Should I have lied? I don’t understand.

The sectional piece is still sitting in the room where it was originally delivered. So technically no transit occurred. I just wish now I wouldn’t have wasted the money on an accidental insurance coverage policy. I’m not sure how much more of an accident it could’ve been. I really just want the piece how it originally was and up until the moment of the accident it was completely fine. I guess be careful with how you describe incidents with the claims agent. WILLIAM ORTEGA,

We are truly sorry for the inconvenience and frustration that this has caused.

Sitting on the furniture cannot be classified as an accident as "sitting" is an intentional verb. Furthermore, sitting down on the sofa is the intended use of the sofa and this Plan does not provide coverage for damages that occur during normal use. An accident would be an unintentional action. For example, if someone fell onto an item, that would be classified as an accident due to "falling" being the unintended action. We certainly understand your frustration and how this can be confusion. However, Guardian will not be providing coverage for this damage. Please contact Bobs Customer Care, at 1-800-569-1284, to file this claim under the manufacturer's warranty.

First, we’ve purchased all of our furniture from Bob’s. Two couches, two love seats, two recliners and a dining room table w/ six chairs. We were so happy to hear that they offered ‘Goof Proof’ protection plans for everything because at the time we had four young children. Fast forward two years and the ‘leather’ couch started to peel, literally when you sit down it was coming off on your clothes. I assumed it was an accident from one of the kids caused something strong like nail polish remover because what else can make leather peel.... I called and told them exactly that. DENIED... Why you ask because it wasn’t a specific ‘accidental’ incident. But I told them it was an accident with nail polish remover, is that not an incident. I was told to go buy another couch. Yes, that’s what they said when I called about them denying my claim.

I do not have the time or energy to go back and forth with a company like this. I work full time and have four growing children. I do not have extra money to just go buy another couch when the couch I bought only a few years ago WITH a ‘goof proof’ protection plan should be replaced. GOOF PROOF PLAN STATES:

    c) Fabric Advantage – Accidental rips, cuts, punctures or burns from a single relatable occurrence.

    a) Leather Standard – Accidental stains caused by any food or beverage normally consumed by humans; mold and mildew stains caused by food or beverage spills; stains caused by human or pet bodily fluids; grass, grease, ballpoint pen ink, iodine, nail polish, cosmetics, lipstick, crayon, and shoe polish. Rips, cuts, punctures or burns from a single relatable occurrence.

Accidental Rips, Cuts, & Burns, and Motor Breakage:

    • Rips, cuts, and punctures (unintentional damages from items such as pens, scissors, and knives).

Fast forward another year.... the recliner arm breaks and is literally hanging off. I called and explained that is was fine the night before and I sat in it in the morning and now it’s broken. Maybe it was the way I landed when I sat down and I broke it. DENIED. Because me sitting down is not a specific incident.

    GOOF PROOF PLAN STATES:
    • Breakage of frames, springs, sleeper, reclining, inclining, heating & vibrating mechanisms after the manufacturer warranty has expired**

** Covered after the manufacturer’s warranty has expired. Coverage for motors is limited to a single incident

I’m so disappointed in the false advertisement by the Guardian. Clearly greed and lies drive this company. They take your money. That’s it. Bobs Discount furniture, I am just as disappointed in your business dealing because you allow this. You allow them to take your customers money and ‘don’t know what to do’ when a customer calls for guidance when the above happened.

    TO BOB’S & THE GUARDIAN:

A warranty is a contract. When the company refuses honor the terms of a warranty, this is called breach of contract. This is against the law.

    Caitlin Binck,

Guardian has reviewed your complaint and are very sorry for the frustration that this has caused you.

We have located your accounts and have reviewed all claims that have been filed with Guardian. Unfortunately, the damages that you have reported were not covered by your Goof Proof Protection Plan as the damages were either not related to an accidental occurrence or because the damages were specifically excluded from the Plan's coverage.

The Protection Plan that you have purchased for your furniture items provides coverage for a variety of stains or damages that are a result of a customer caused accident.

Regarding the frame damage to the armrest of your recliner,

You originally reported this damage on 5/1/2017 and reported that you were not sure of what caused this damage. This claim was denied coverage because the damage was not related to an accidental occurrence as this Plan requires.

Regarding the leather cracking and peeling on the recliner,

You reported this damage to Guardian on 5/19/2018 and reported that you were not sure of the cause of damage. However, this claim was denied coverage due to leather cracking and peeling being a specific exclusion to coverage, listed in the terms of your Plan. Unfortunately, this type of damage would not be covered regardless of how the damage occurred.

On 2/07/2019, you contacted Guardian and reported frame breakage to the same armrest of the recliner, that you originally reported in 2017, but this time reported that your child jumped off the armrest causing the frame damage. A child jumping on the furniture or off the furniture is classified as misuse of the furniture, as the furniture is not intended to be jumped on or off of. This damage was denied coverage due to the damage not being from an accident but being from misuse. This Plan specifically excludes damages necessitated by misuse or abuse of the furniture. You then contacted us back on 11/19/2019 reporting the same frame damage to the recliner, that you had reported twice before. During this call, you reported that you did not no the cause of the damage.

While we certainly understand that these damages may not have been caused intentionally, the Plan specifically requires that an accident be related to damage in order for the claim to be deemed eligible. Because there were not accidents involved/reported to have caused the frame damage to the recliner, we would not offer coverage for that type of damage.

If you would like a copy of your Protection Plan, and for us to highlight the specific provisions and exclusions to coverage that support the denied claims, we will be happy to email you a copy.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience and frustration that this has caused, but Guardian will not be providing coverage for these damages.

In 2015, I purchased an Ashley reclining furniture set online. The set included a reclining sofa, reclining love seat, and rocker recliner. In addition to this purchase, I added on the additional protection plan to cover the furniture for 5 years from accidental breakage and damage. In 2019 I needed to use the protection plan for two issues that arose. Firstly, the back of the rocker recliner had broken away from the main frame and was loose. Secondly, the stitching for the zipper underneath the back rest cushion of the love seat ripped away, exposing the stuffing material of the love seat.

I pulled out my protection plan warranty through Guardian and read through the fine print. In a nutshell, the protection plan offers different levels of coverage which were included. Regarding the recliner, the protection plan included a "Wood Standard" coverage. The coverage terms for this state: "Stains caused by food or beverage normally consumed by humans; mold and mildew stains caused by food or beverage spills; BREAKAGE OF WOOD FRAME OR STRUCTURE or other hard surface from single incident; gouge, heat mark or liquid ring from single incident; accidental breakage of glass or mirror components (with exception of crowned or curved glass)." So clearly my single incident of the back breaking away should be covered under these terms.

The love seat back was covered under the "Fabric Advantage". This coverage stated "Rips, cuts, punctures or burns from a single relatable occurrence." Clearly showing that a rip is covered. When I made the online claim, which was very lengthy to do, I was notified about a week later that both claims were denied. They stated that they do not meet the policy coverage. I immediately called Guardian for further information and to discuss this.

I spoke with a representative about the claims and she stated that for the recliner chair, frame damage is excluded under the warranty coverage. I asked her to state were it says this and she pulled up the policy and said under the exclusions it say "Damage caused during, or as a result of delivery, handing, set up, or assembly...." makes this ineligible. I stated to her that this damage was from none of the scenarios stated in the exclusions and exactly as specified in the "Wood Standard Coverage" policy. She continued to argue with me about other areas that then make it excluded which did not even make sense. Stating that because it was a "plastic or metal part, such as a hinge and drawer slide" made it excluded. I again explained that it is not a drawer slide, hinge, or plastic or metal part. But they were not having it.

In regards to the love seat rip, she said that because it was a seam stitch that ripped away, it is ineligible. We went around and round with this too. Finally she said I can email the dispute department to try and resolve this. She gave me the address and then we disconnected. Within one minute of disconnecting, I received a call back and they stated they would send a technician to repair the chair, but not the seam rip. They did not state why they suddenly changed their mind, but most likely because I read every single word in the fine print of the policy and had them tied. I decided to just take what was offered and forego arguing the seam rip at this time.

Fast forward and a repair tech that is sub-contracted by these warranty companies came out and repaired the chair. While he was here he could not believe that either claim was denied. Especially the rip in the love seat! He stated that we should never buy the additional protection warranties for furniture. He said the representatives are trained to automatically deny everything. They do this in hopes the customers just go away, after they already have your money from buying the warranty. He said he sees it all the time. Luckily the tech was a great person and showed up how to remove the love seat back to make the repair ourselves. We did make the seam repair ourselves and put it back together.

Long story short, DO NOT buy a protection plan from Guardian if you value any of your time and money. Because you will waste both with them. I keep a very clean and orderly house, and this furniture was not abused at all! I submitted honest claims and was treated very poorly and tried to be taken advantage of. Please do your homework and steer very clear of this company!!

    Aaron Eckert,

Guardian has reviewed your complaint are very sorry for the frustration and inconvenience that this has caused.

We have reviewed your claim in its entirety and agree that the frame damage to the recliner is covered by your Protection Plan and should have never been denied coverage. For this, we cannot apologize enough as we certainly understand how this may look. We assure you that we do stand behind our Plans and provide coverage for exactly what the Plan states. It does appear that after the agent reviewed your Protection Plan coverage's further, it was determined that this damage was covered by your Plan, which is why the ineligible status was corrected and approved for coverage. Again, we cannot apologize enough for the frustration that this has caused you.

    Regarding the seam separation,

While the Protection Plan does provide coverage for accidental rips, cuts, and punctures, this Plan specifically excludes seam separation or seam slippage. Unfortunately, it does not matter whether the damage was caused by an accident or normal use, seam separation would not be covered under any circumstance. We have emailed you, through your Guardian account, including a copy of your Protection Plan and have highlighted the specific exclusion to coverage supporting the denial of the seam separation.

I'm incredibly frustrated with Guardian. They do not follow their own guidelines. I bought a 3 piece sectional for quite a bit of money and bought the guardian warranty in case anything happened to it. On the day before Christmas, my 3 year old daughter got a hold of scissors from our present wrapping and went to town on our living room. Chairs, rocking chair, bassinet and the fronts of our entire sectional were covered in small cuts afterwards. When I called Winner Furniture to file a claim, I was directed to the Guardian website. I immediately received a response of denied because they said 7 cuts could not possibly have occurred at one time. I argued with multiple guardian representatives and they all refused to help.

Guardian's policy specifically says CUTS with an S. Which means more than one puncture, cut, tear, burn etc during a relatable incident. Even though I explained this happened in one "Relatable" incident, they all refused to cover help. Either Guardian is threatening their employees who might be inclined to help or they are simply lying outright to customers who pay thousands of dollars for false assurance. I am wondering if Guardian is doing this to enough people that it might be worth talking to a large legal firm about forming a class action lawsuit. Avoid Guardian if at all possible!

    Andrew Rodgers,

Guardian has reviewed your complaint and are very sorry for the frustration that this has caused you.

We have reviewed your claim in its entirety and stand behind the denial of your claim. The Protection Plan that you have purchased does provide coverage for accidental rips, cuts, burns or punctures related to a single occurrence. However, the extent of the damages you have reported cannot be classified as a single accidental occurrence. You have reported multiple cuts from your 3 year old child throughout your entire sectional. The pictures that you have provided do not show minor cuts but show cuts that would have taken extensive effort to cause. The child would have had to go from one piece to another causing these cuts for this extent of damage to have happened. Unfortunately, this is not from a single incident but is from multiple incidents within that day/evening. We are very sorry for the frustration that this has caused, but the extent of the damages shown in the pictures that you provided are not covered by this Protection Plan.

    Sincerely,

    Guardian Protection Products

Firstly I will love to thank Consumer Affairs for being out here for customer. I was just googling thing up and stumble on their this. My voice was heard and my claim has been resolved. I got a call from Amber from Guardian Product and she did gave me the ear I wanted. The problem might not be the company but the people selling the company product and their first response team to claims. I'm giving four star because of the stress I had to go through. Thank you consumer affairs.

I'm disappointed with this people. I bought a sectional, carpet, cupboard, 6 chairs dinning table from Bob's Furnitures. I was told by Bob's associate the insurance covers stain, or damages and can be clean, repaired or replaced after five years. I was never told about an incidence nor given the definition of their incidence. I bought this insurance for all my items almost a thousand dollars.

Last week my daughter made some three cuts on the sectional and I called Bob's furniture then they directed me to Guardian. I was never even told it's a third party type of business. I need my refund or my item replaced or I will stay here giving my testimony to others this is bad business and poor communication just to get people money. You can't tell me you cover damages then I report my damage you tell me it's more than one incidence. This cuts were made same day, same time, is that not an incident. You policy says CUTS with an S. That's a plural which means multiple punctures, burns. All those are plurals. You people are playing with people money. It took me lot of hours to get this together.

I have a Guardian Protection for my couch which has a armless power chair that is no longer working - the protection is in place since I bought the couch back in 2016. The story starts from 2017 when I opened a claim with Guardian for the chair, which stopped working. At the time Guardian told me this chair is under mfg warranty, and rightfully so; I contacted the seller (Huffman Koos) and they took care of it. They did not leave me any invoice though nor something explaining how the chair was fixed.

Now back to present, I have the same issue starting to happen with the armless chair late last year. I opened a claim with Guardian. First they told me this is the problem from back in 2017 and we do not fix old issues; When I told them the original issue was fixed from 2017, They asked me for the proof. since I did not have any proof, I contacted Huffman Koos which indicated that old company that took care of my couch last time is no longer in business; instead Huffman Koos sent their notes indicating my issue was taken care of and the couch was fixed. NOW Guardian states that they need to know exactly what was fixed and without that they do not fix anything. I told them last time they verbally told me it was the switch but they wants something in writing from the other company which no longer exists. Basically they declined my Claim for NOTHING.

Horrible. I bought something with Jeromes and when I file a claim it did not cover. So I decided to purchase with Bob's furniture discount. For my surprise they have the same company Goof and when I file a claim it did not cover. I don't know what they mean with single accident and accidental damage. Also the lady from corporate mention that it didn't not cover multiple kids. When I got the protection I mention that I had 4 KIDS that was why I was getting the protection, it is impossible to speak to Bob's. All they do is say sorry, PLEASE DON'T PURCHASE ANYTHING!!! FROM EITHER COMPANY. THEY DONT VALUE AS A CUSTOMER.

    MARINA TURNER,

Guardian has reviewed your complaint and are very sorry for the confusion and frustration that this has caused.

The Protection Plan that you purchased through Bobs Customer Care does provides coverage for all accidental stains. However, the Protection Plan specifically states that coverage is for accidental stains or damages from a single incident. You reported having stains on all seat cushions of your sofa, loveseat and ottoman, that were possibly from dirt caused by your kids. Unfortunately, the Plan specifically excludes general soiling stains or stains that cannot be attributed to a single incident. Having stains on all seat cushions of all three pieces of furniture cannot be attributed to a single incident. Due to the stains not being related to a single incident, as your Plan requires, we are unable to offer coverage for this claim.

We are truly sorry for the frustration and inconvenience that this has caused.

I purchased my couch with smuggler 3 months ago. We noticed on the smuggler section there was a small rip on the fabric. How? I have no idea but didn’t want it to get worse. We also started hearing some cracking type of frame notices when you sit down like structural damage. This set is brand new! I contacted the protection plan and filed a claim. I received an email stating to provide pictures and a copy of my purchase agreement because they didn’t have it. I immediately did so.

1 week later I sent another email checking status since I hadn’t heard anything. A day later I received a denial email on both items filed because only stains are covered. What the heck! Why have coverage?! This couch should not be broken nor should it be ripping! I still have two more payments! I’ll be contacting the store and telling them about this so called protection plan they’re selling! It’s a rip off and not worth my money! I’ll also be spreading the word to everyone....Don’t buy it!

    Catrina Loera,

Guardian has reviewed your complaint and are very sorry for the frustration and inconvenience that this has caused.

The Protection Plan that you have purchased does provide coverage for a variety of accidental stains, along with accidental rips, cuts, burns or punctures from a specific incident. While we understand that the rip was not caused intentionally, your Plan requires that damages of this nature be related to a specific incident. Due to not knowing what caused the rip, the damage could not be related to a specific incident therefore would not be covered by this Protection Plan. Regarding the possible frame damage, your furniture is less than 6 months old, which means that you may have a manufacturer's warranty that is still valid. We suggest reaching out to the store that you purchased your furniture from and reporting the frame damage under your manufacturer's warranty.

We are truly sorry for any inconvenience or frustration that this has caused.

Refused to pay my claim, claim was valid and covered under the policy. During a family gathering, my sofa was damaged because we put to many people on it for a family photo. We didn't set out to break the sofa nor was it a manufacturer flaw. I call that an accident. Unfortunately they do not. If you read their Google reviews, you can see there are hundreds of people they scammed. They should not be allowed to sell accident insurance.

    JESSE DEJESUS,

We are truly sorry for the confusion and frustration that this has caused. However, when this Plan was purchased, you purchased the Goof Proof Protection Plan. Guardian only provides the coverage for the Goof Proof part of your Plan, while Bobs Customer care provides the coverage for the Plus part of your Plan. The Plus coverage is an extension of your manufacturer's warranty, which allows manufacturing coverage for a total of 5 years. We are very sorry if you were given inaccurate information, but you may contact Bobs Customer Care directly at 1-800-569-1284 to confirm that you do have the Plus coverage and to file a claim under that Plan.

We have had an awful experience with this company. We have been waiting for someone to repair our table after making a service request over a month ago. There is awful communication. Once a day for a service technician to come to the house was FINALLY established, we waited for hours for someone to show up. Still waiting for someone to repair the table. We repeatedly get emails/texts about when technicians are coming without confirming an appointment with us (most recently when we were out of the country). Highly disappointed with our experience.

I have Guardian for my sectional couch. When there was urine on it, I made a service request. That was easy and their rep helped out a lot. A technician came out the next day which was very fast. He was very good and he ended up cleaning the entire couch instead of just the spot. He spent his time and made sure he cleaned it very well. Guardian has been definitely worth it so far. I will definitely be using it again in the future.

I have Guardian's protection plan that's for three years and it has met my expectations so far. Last month, I used their service because of stains and that was taken care of. The technician was fast and was efficient. On the whole, the turnaround time was fine. The feedback that I got was to make sure that I report to Guardian as soon as I could so it would be covered. I read some negative reviews, but I have not experienced those. Also, when I purchased Guardian, I got a cleaning kit in the store. They explained it to me and I also read the instructions. They were not really straightforward and I was scared because my couch is gray. I didn’t want it to look bleached out just in case.

Do not be suckered into buying any protection plan from this company. (We bought Bob's Goof Proof from Bob's Discount Furniture and this is the company I had to deal with.) They won't consider anything "accidental damage." They will deny your claim.

    Response from Guardian Protection Products

    Kay Yeoman,

We would like to thank you for taking the time to voice your experience with Guardian Protection Products. We are sadden to hear that the damage you are experiencing was found to be ineligible for coverage based upon the Protection Plan that you have purchased. We have reviewed your claim in its entirety and found that the ineligible status will remain. The Protection Plan that you have purchased does provide coverage for accidental breakage to the frame or springs. However, this Plan requires that all damages be related to a customer caused accident. You reported that you sat down on this unit and heard a noise and found that the frame had broken. While we agree that you did not cause this damage intentionally, sitting on the furniture is part of the intended use of the furniture. The Goof Proof Protection Plan is designed to provide coverage for damages that occur from a customer caused accident. This Plan does not provide coverage for any damage that occurs while the furniture item is normally being used, as this is not an extension of the manufacturer's warranty. We do understand how frustrating this is, however, we can only provide the coverage as its stated in the terms of your Protection Plan.

Again, we are truly sorry that Guardian could not provide assistance with this damage, but we do want to thank you for being a valued customer of Guardian.

    Best Regards,
