We purchase a sectional sofa in July 2019. We have been very happy until in September 2020 (2 months after our manufacturer warranty ended) the frame on our armless recliner bent. I contacted Guardian via phone and was told to submit pictures after describing that the footrest was broken during normal use. They declined the claim. I called back not understanding why the claim was denied. Guardian informed me that since the frame was bent during normal use, they would not honor the claim. They would only honor the claim if the frame was bent as a result of an accident occurring to the recliner. When I told them this may be the result of something with the motor since it was making a noise, they agreed to send a technician to investigate.

The technician told us that the frame was bent, that this happens often and he would send pictures to guardian. They declined the claim again. If I had said my husband fell on the chair, they would fix it. I do not agree that this was "NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR" on a 14 month old piece of furniture. When I spoke to Alex (a manager of the Hunt Valley, MD location), he felt this should be repaired through the Goof Proof protection. I do not feel the Goof Proof is explained well enough that this will only cover a literal accident. I am not comfortable spending money for furniture that will only last 14 months.

In my opinion the goof proof protection plan is a waste of money. Every claim I put in for has been denied. From what I'm getting I am covered if it's an accident BUT if someone sits on a suppose to be sturdy coach and the thin piece of wood breaks that's not covered. BUT if they tripped and fell onto the coach and it broke it is. That's ridiculous. From my experiences No stars need to be an option.

Guardian Protection Products is a waste of money. They refuse to cover furniture claims that are clearly defined in their own documentation as items that will be covered, even with pictures. We purchased a brand new sectional from Bob's Discount Furniture on 10/21/18. We were told the couch we purchased (LUXE) was the 2nd most popular sectional. In addition to the purchase of the couch, we also purchased the Goof Proof Warranty from Guardian Protection Products the salesman recommended for 150.00. From the time of purchase to now (9/27/20) we have had 3 technicians at the house for various problems with the couch. Both the left and right arms of the chaises have divots, the cushion casings have torn, and the left-facing chaise now has multiple sharp protrusions in the back, which presents a safety issue.

The divot fix only lasted a few months, and the technician who came to the house to replace the cushion casings, put them on in such a way that the casing seams don't line up with the ends of the cushions. For the protrusions, I filed a claim with Guardian. The first Guardian rep said the claim would not be covered because it had occurred when I pulled the couch out to clean, which was not true and a statement I did not make. I told him I noticed the protrusion when I pulled the couch out to clean the wall.

After calling to speak with another Guardian rep. regarding the incident, she apologized for the first rep's explanation, and said the claim's denial is actually due to us not being aware of the exact cause of the protrusion. I then filed a complaint with Bob's Customer Care; they refused to offer a replacement to the chaise or send a technician to examine the damage free of charge because the one year manufacturing warranty expired and recommended I file a complaint with Guardian.

After filing an additional claim with Guardian due to the protrusions getting worse and increasing in number after sitting back on the chaise, the following is what I received via email, denying the claim "You reported that the damage to your furniture occurred while leaning back. While we understand the furniture was not intentionally damaged, leaning back is the intended use of the furniture. The plan you purchased protects your furniture from accidents you cause to the furniture and excludes damage that occurs from normal use." We now have a couch, less than two years old, that is dangerous and neither Bob's Discount Furniture or Guardian Protection Plans will take any action to resolve the issue.

So I bought multiple furniture from Bob's and bought the warranty with Guardian Protection Plan. So one day my kids accidentally damaged all of the bed set in their bedroom while playing with friends. Guardian Protection plan states that kids can't damage items the same day, then it's not a accident, it's intentional. Kids play and while playing, they damage things. So what is the point of having a protection? If the kids accidentally damage the bed set, why isn't it covered. They make up things as they go. So the supervisor told me that each items has a multiple damages, and I said let's go picture by picture and see what the multiple damages are.

She refused to look at the pictures with me and kept saying kids actions can be stopped. How can I predict what the kids will do. They refuse to listen to my points and just denied them without providing a valid claims. They also said how can you determine when was it damaged, they said it can't be done in one single incident it probably happened overtime, but failed to let me know how they can tell it happened overtime. I also asked if they can send somebody to inspect it if they don't believe me, they do not want to hear that. HORRIBLE SERVICE.

We purchased living room furniture (a sectional couch with chaise, a chair and ottoman) in 2017. We were going to decline the extended warranty through Guardian, because we have dogs and pet damages are not usually covered, but the salesman insisted and guaranteed that it would cover pet damage. Fast forward to 2020, (approx. 3 years later), we submit a claim for the fabric in several areas of the chair and ottoman because of the dog's nails from just being on the furniture as well as a claim on the couch because all of the sudden the frame is broken on the chaise section of it.

It takes about a week, but we get a reply from guardian denying both claims. The pet damage because according because it is excluded from the policy, the frame damage because I was honest and told them that I do not know how it happened. We sit on it, so normal use. Now we have to go into Bob's and demand a refund of the warranty that covers nothing because we are now going to have to fix that ourselves. We will not purchase from them again and we absolutely do not recommend anyone purchasing from them. We will be going to the store on Saturday, I will update if I get a resolution then.

Scratches are covered with the plan I bought but because I cannot tell them the exact date under which the scratch occurred, they denied my claim. And if you try to then give them a date, they simply tell you that you aren't allowed to include any new information that you didn't give on the date you submitted the claim. You are locked in with the initial information you gave and they will use a lack of information to deny the claim. Read some of the other reviews. They have a planned out algorithm to ensure you are stuck with a plan that has one goal in mind - pay the minimum amount of claims you can and keep everyone else's money. I purchased a 5 year Guardian Product Protection plan through Bob's Furniture (The Goof Proof Plan) on my children's bunk beds. I was completely misled by the salesperson that ANY damage to the bed would be covered, including if my child jumped up and down on the bed and it broke. The coverage by Guardian is absolutely ridiculous and not worth the money spent. I would NOT RECOMMEND purchasing their plan due to the narrow type of damage/accidents that are actually covered.

    The damages:
    1) My son jumped into the bed to go to bed, not meaning to damage it and not misusing it, but one of the wooden support slats completely broke under the mattress.

    2) My other son ran up the stairs to get to the top bunk and the wood on the front stair broke off - about a 1 inch piece the length of the entire step.

Apparently, NEITHER of these items are covered. The contract states these are covered:

    1) PRODUCT SPECIFIC COVERAGE: #2. WOOD AND HARD SURFACE FURNITURE: Section b. Accidental breakage of wood frame or structure or other hard surface from specific incident.

    2) COVERAGE: • The Plan covers materials and labor costs to service your furniture item(s) in the event a furniture item becomes accidentally damaged during normal residential use...

    3) NOTE: ...This Plan covers defects in workmanship and/or material of your covered furniture item(s) and, if applicable, accidental damage from normal household use, as described herein.

HOWEVER, UNDER 'EXCLUSIONS TO COVERAGE, THIS MAKES ALL THAT NULL AND VOID: Unknown stains; color loss, fading, and discoloration; all normal wear and tear, including damage that cannot be attributed to a single relatable incident. THAT is the line that supposedly means 'normal usage' and why damage under normal usage is not covered. Makes ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE. AND if my son 'accidentally fell' onto the stairs and they broke, that would be covered. Running up the stairs is NOT, for some insane reason. But, that was only for the STAIRS. Apparently the slats are NOT covered due to them not being a painted part of the bed. Was NEVER told that anything underneath was and unpainted was not covered under the plan when being walked through coverage by the Bob's Furniture salesperson. I was misled by Bob's Furniture sales and am completely unhappy with this entire situation.

I also purchased an additional 5-Year P1PB-4015407 Guardian Residential Furniture Plan warranty for $39.99. The warranty was activated on 3/4/18, will expire on 3/4/23, and the information states that the warranty will provide up to $299.00 in coverage for new furniture.

11/21-22/19, I made several calls to Bob's Customer Service and Guardian Protection Products, Inc. for assistance and was not able to find a resolution. The Customer Service Rep from Guardian Protection Products, Inc. informed me that since the bed broke and it was not accidental, they would not grant the repair claim. The support legs on the bed have broken three times.

I called Bobs Customer Care and they told me to call Guardian Protection Products - I was informed that internal documents, service repair reports are not provided to customers; it is only for the company records. I asked for copies of the reports complete by the repair technicians and was informed the following: 8/9/18 - Guardian Protection Products Technician notes: repaired/tightened loose slat support leg; the cracked leg, and it was determined not to be a manufacturing defect.

9/16/19 - Guardian Protection Products Cursory technician notes: repaired/tighten loose slat support leg; the leg was cracked, not a manufacturing issue. 11/8/19 - I called Guardian Protection Products to file another claim because two legs had broke again on the bed; (left front) and middle loose slat support leg. Claim denied for repairs.

I have requested credit from Bob's Discount Furniture to select another bed. Bob's Furniture denied my request and stated that I would have to pay for repairs. Guardian Protection Products refuse to issue me a refund or repair the furniture. I have requested a copy of both service reports - informed that internal documents, service repair reports are not given to customers. The continued breakage of the product could fall under two defects: manufacturing defect or design defect. In the law of products liability, a manufacturing defect is a defect in a product that was not intended. This kind of defect occurs when a product departs from its intended design and is more dangerous than consumers expect the product to be. The leg breaking was no intended; it just happened.

In the law of products liability, a design defect exists when a defect is inherent in the design of the product itself. In a products liability case, a plaintiff can only establish a design defect exists when he proves there is hypothetical alternative design that would be safer that the original design, as economically feasible as the original design, and as practical as the original design, retaining the primary purpose behind the original design despite the changes made.

Per the notes of the service repair technician on 9/16/19 - Cursory technician notes: repaired/tightened loose slat support leg; leg is cracked, and this is not a manufacturing issue. There was a present issue, a cracked leg, and the repair technician neglected to repair it. Neglecting to repair the leg upon inspection later resulted in the breakage of the leg again, along with the middle support slacks.

I have that, I mentioned that, and she refused to acknowledge that. Now anytime I call I get the run around. This service is a joke!

“Please understand that this is a final determination and your claim cannot be changed or altered to change its eligibility.” “The plan you purchased from Daniel's Home Center does cover your furniture for a variety of accidental stains from a single incident. You reported multiple stains throughout both pieces of your sectional; therefore a general cleaning would be required to resolve this claim. Your plan does not offer a general cleaning and specifically excludes stains that cannot be attributed to a single incident.“ Impossible to get a general cleaning or any kind of claim on my “protected products”. Notice how they only respond to 5 star reviews. Not professional, NOT looking forward to providing excellent service like they say so in their introductory email.

Railing break off after about 2 yrs of use. I wouldn't rate any stars for this company if it was possible. I submitted a claim and was told the breakage in wood was not subject to warranty. We have to hold the bed up with boxes and some tape to continue to use it and it is completely useless to all intents and purposes as there is no repair plan or replacement for damaged parts.

I quote the response verbatim: "The plan you purchased does cover your furniture for accidental breakage of the frames however any damage caused by an unauthorized cleaning or repair attempt is not a coverage of your plan. The photos indicate that you used tape to tape the rails. Putting tape on the bed rail is an unauthorized cleaning or repair attempt and excluded from the coverage of this plan". We purchased $2,000.00 worth of living room furniture from Bob’s Furniture in November, 2018. We added the Guardian Protection Plan because we were told it “literally covers everything” and were also told it lasted as long as we had the furniture (but that’s another issue and I’ll take it up with Bob’s). Recently a bar in the footrest of my oversized recliner completely snapped, rendering it practically useless. I contacted Guardian to file a claim but due to a miscommunication with my spouse, and the fact that I was dealing with work at the time, I unfortunately failed to list what they would deem a valid reason as to how this happened (we’ve all hurriedly completed things when we have a million other things going on, right?).

The claim comes back almost immediately denied because I said I was unaware of how it became broken, I later discovered from my wife it was due to our 85lb dog jumping on it (again, another issue) and so I contacted customer service to see about amending the claim. The agent was rude, of course, and gave me the email to a different department who has now also come back with a denial. So all because I selected the wrong option (aka anything other than a specific “accident” because that is literally the ONLY thing these plans cover) I now have a $600 recliner that does not recline! Let me make this abundantly clear, this company takes your money and has no intention of ever hearing from you again.

If you happen to file a claim, they make you go through a ridiculous amount of red tape with questions that are set up to confuse you, just so they can come back and deny your claim for not answering the questions correctly. They will then refuse to change or review anything because you agreed to that ridiculous arrangement when you filed the claim in the first place! This company is a scam. DO NOT BUY THEIR PLANS, THEY WON’T FIX YOUR STUFF ANYWAY!!!

The guy had to use our mop bucket to clean his hose. The couch now smells even worse than it did to begin with, we call to see if anything can be done, turns out the plan ONLY PROTECTS THE FABRIC and NOT the cushion itself. We were also told that the cleaning solution they use sometimes leaves a bad smell and there's nothing they can do about it. Absolutely horrible company and definitely not worth the money because you'll still have to buy a replacement.

This is regarding 6 pcs sectional power recliner sofa I bought from Bob's Furniture 3 years ago with Goof Proof protection plan. Now earlier this month one of the sofa chair framework broke while person suddenly sat due to loss of balance. The sofa chair literally went down. When I filed a claim, with mentioning this as a specific incident, it was denied saying that "damage to your furniture occurred while sitting. While we understand the furniture was not intentionally damaged, sitting on the furniture is the intended use of the furniture." Of course it was not usual sitting on sofa. What kind of normal sitting will break the sofa? Sofas are meant to be sit on and not supposed to break them when you sit. It can happen only when the circumstances are unusual.

The incident I mentioned, It was one time accident where the person (little overweight) had to sit all of a sudden due to loss of balance with kid in the hand to avoid physical injury to self and child. I tried to call but the customer support is closed with only online chat option, which redirected me to file claim online. The claim assessor also mentioned that "this is a final determination". That means I was never given any opportunity to submit any other details or explain exactly what happened.

We sit on all other chairs and parts of sofa all the times and this has never happened. While only this scenario has caused the resulting damage, this incident should not be considered under normal use. Another thing I noticed. At the bottom of the claim assessment email It's not clear whether to respond to this email or not as it says: "Responses to this email are not received. Reply to this email to respond." I emailed to customer care but never heard back. Very unprofessional and upsetting.

Do not buy the so-called protection plans from this company! When we purchased this stain protection plan, the salesman told us how great it was - that if you have any stains, doesn't matter what - marker, food, etc etc - just call them up and they will remove them or replace the furniture if they can't get the stains out. It sounded like a great deal. We walked out with the Guardian flyer and a certificate saying we were covered.

We have several young kids, so lo and behold, a couple years after purchasing, we ended up with several stains over a short period of time. When we filed the claim, my wife explained the different stains and approximately when each one happened. They were friendly enough and said they would email the claim number and to reply with the pictures. We got the email, and replied with pictures. They say they will reply in 2-3 days, but we did not get a response. We were getting close to the date where they say the claim will be permanently closed, so my wife had to call them to process our claim.

Well, they processed our claim quick enough then. Processed it quick and said that our claim was rejected. Rejected because there were multiple stains. Apparently they will only cover a stain from a SINGLE incident. First of all, this was NEVER mentioned by the salesman. Second, we NEVER received any of the plan's exclusions and fine print that allows them to reject just about anything. (I guess we were a bit naive and a little too trusting.) This was also NEVER brought up when my wife was discussing the stains with them on the phone. What difference does it make if the stains occur soon together? The protection plan is supposed to be, and was pushed to us as, covering any and all stains in the 5 year period. Apparently as long as you only file a claim for one stain at a time. Otherwise they will reject your whole claim. WHAT A JOKE!

Moreover, they stated that we must get our sectional professionally cleaned and provide the documentation, or all further claims that we have will not be covered. Are you kidding me??! We purchased this plan for that reason. Guardian was supposed to be our professional cleaner. A word of advice, instead of buying this plan, just save your money and use it to hire a professional cleaner later. You will likely have to anyways after Guardian rejects your legitimate claims.

Our salesman also told us that if we didn't use the plan, we would get the money back in store credit to apply to a purchase over a certain dollar amount. It seemed like a win-win when we bought it. Now I'm seriously wondering if we will get screwed out of that too since we "filed a claim". This company is nothing more than a scam operation operating under the guise of a legitimate-sounding company name.

Obviously it was an accident as the sectional piece was the armless insert and in perfect condition with the exception of two small rips on the lower back where it got caught on the door hinges and ripped. The claim was denied because the piece was in transit. I did state on the phone interview that we are moving and that’s why I was moving the piece from one room to the next. Should I have lied? The sectional piece is still sitting in the room where it was originally delivered. So technically no transit occurred. I just wish now I wouldn’t have wasted the money on an accidental insurance coverage policy. I’m not sure how much more of an accident it could’ve been. WILLIAM ORTEGA,

We are truly sorry for the inconvenience and frustration that this has caused.

Sitting on the furniture cannot be classified as an accident as "sitting" is an intentional verb. Furthermore, sitting down on the sofa is the intended use of the sofa and this Plan does not provide coverage for damages that occur during normal use. An accident would be an unintentional action. For example, if someone fell onto an item, that would be classified as an accident due to "falling" being the unintended action. We certainly understand your frustration and how this can be confusion. However, Guardian will not be providing coverage for this damage. Please contact Bobs Customer Care, at 1-800-569-1284, to file this claim under the manufacturer's warranty.

First, we’ve purchased all of our furniture from Bob’s. Two couches, two love seats, two recliners and a dining room table w/ six chairs. We were so happy to hear that they offered ‘Goof Proof’ protection plans for everything because at the time we had four young children. Fast forward two years and the ‘leather’ couch started to peel, literally when you sit down it was coming off on your clothes. I assumed it was an accident from one of the kids caused something strong like nail polish remover because what else can make leather peel.... I called and told them exactly that. DENIED... Why you ask because it wasn’t a specific ‘accidental’ incident. But I told them it was an accident with nail polish remover, is that not an incident. I was told to go buy another couch. Yes, that’s what they said when I called about them denying my claim.

I do not have the time or energy to go back and forth with a company like this. I work full time and have four growing children. I do not have extra money to just go buy another couch when the couch I bought only a few years ago WITH a ‘goof proof’ protection plan should be replaced. GOOF PROOF PLAN STATES:

    c) Fabric Advantage – Accidental rips, cuts, punctures or burns from a single relatable occurrence.

    a) Leather Standard – Accidental stains caused by any food or beverage normally consumed by humans; mold and mildew stains caused by food or beverage spills; stains caused by human or pet bodily fluids; grass, grease, ballpoint pen ink, iodine, nail polish, cosmetics, lipstick, crayon, and shoe polish. Rips, cuts, punctures or burns from a single relatable occurrence.

Accidental Rips, Cuts, & Burns, and Motor Breakage:

    • Rips, cuts, and punctures (unintentional damages from items such as pens, scissors, and knives).

Fast forward another year.... the recliner arm breaks and is literally hanging off. I called and explained that is was fine the night before and I sat in it in the morning and now it’s broken. Maybe it was the way I landed when I sat down and I broke it. DENIED. Because me sitting down is not a specific incident.

    GOOF PROOF PLAN STATES:
    • Breakage of frames, springs, sleeper, reclining, inclining, heating & vibrating mechanisms after the manufacturer warranty has expired**

** Covered after the manufacturer’s warranty has expired. Coverage for motors is limited to a single incident

I’m so disappointed in the false advertisement by the Guardian. Clearly greed and lies drive this company. They take your money. That’s it. Bobs Discount furniture, I am just as disappointed in your business dealing because you allow this. You allow them to take your customers money and ‘don’t know what to do’ when a customer calls for guidance when the above happened.

    TO BOB’S & THE GUARDIAN:

A warranty is a contract. When the company refuses honor the terms of a warranty, this is called breach of contract. This is against the law.

    Response from Guardian Protection Products

    Caitlin Binck,

Guardian has reviewed your complaint and are very sorry for the frustration that this has caused you.

We have located your accounts and have reviewed all claims that have been filed with Guardian. Unfortunately, the damages that you have reported were not covered by your Goof Proof Protection Plan as the damages were either not related to an accidental occurrence or because the damages were specifically excluded from the Plan's coverage.

The Protection Plan that you have purchased for your furniture items provides coverage for a variety of stains or damages that are a result of a customer caused accident.

Regarding the frame damage to the armrest of your recliner,

You originally reported this damage on 5/1/2017 and reported that you were not sure of what caused this damage. This claim was denied coverage because the damage was not related to an accidental occurrence as this Plan requires.

Regarding the leather cracking and peeling on the recliner,

You reported this damage to Guardian on 5/19/2018 and reported that you were not sure of the cause of damage. However, this claim was denied coverage due to leather cracking and peeling being a specific exclusion to coverage, listed in the terms of your Plan. Unfortunately, this type of damage would not be covered regardless of how the damage occurred.

On 2/07/2019, you contacted Guardian and reported frame breakage to the same armrest of the recliner, that you originally reported in 2017, but this time reported that your child jumped off the armrest causing the frame damage. A child jumping on the furniture or off the furniture is classified as misuse of the furniture, as the furniture is not intended to be jumped on or off of. This damage was denied coverage due to the damage not being from an accident but being from misuse. This Plan specifically excludes damages necessitated by misuse or abuse of the furniture. You then contacted us back on 11/19/2019 reporting the same frame damage to the recliner, that you had reported twice before. During this call, you reported that you did not no the cause of the damage.

While we certainly understand that these damages may not have been caused intentionally, the Plan specifically requires that an accident be related to damage in order for the claim to be deemed eligible. Because there were not accidents involved/reported to have caused the frame damage to the recliner, we would not offer coverage for that type of damage.

If you would like a copy of your Protection Plan, and for us to highlight the specific provisions and exclusions to coverage that support the denied claims, we will be happy to email you a copy.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience and frustration that this has caused, but Guardian will not be providing coverage for these damages.

In 2015, I purchased an Ashley reclining furniture set online. The set included a reclining sofa, reclining love seat, and rocker recliner. In addition to this purchase, I added on the additional protection plan to cover the furniture for 5 years from accidental breakage and damage. In 2019 I needed to use the protection plan for two issues that arose. Firstly, the back of the rocker recliner had broken away from the main frame and was loose. Secondly, the stitching for the zipper underneath the back rest cushion of the love seat ripped away, exposing the stuffing material of the love seat.

I pulled out my protection plan warranty through Guardian and read through the fine print. In a nutshell, the protection plan offers different levels of coverage which were included. Regarding the recliner, the protection plan included a "Wood Standard" coverage. The coverage terms for this state: "Stains caused by food or beverage normally consumed by humans; mold and mildew stains caused by food or beverage spills; BREAKAGE OF WOOD FRAME OR STRUCTURE or other hard surface from single incident; gouge, heat mark or liquid ring from single incident; accidental breakage of glass or mirror components (with exception of crowned or curved glass)." So clearly my single incident of the back breaking away should be covered under these terms.

The love seat back was covered under the "Fabric Advantage". This coverage stated "Rips, cuts, punctures or burns from a single relatable occurrence." Clearly showing that a rip is covered. When I made the online claim, which was very lengthy to do, I was notified about a week later that both claims were denied. They stated that they do not meet the policy coverage. I immediately called Guardian for further information and to discuss this.

I spoke with a representative about the claims and she stated that for the recliner chair, frame damage is excluded under the warranty coverage. I asked her to state were it says this and she pulled up the policy and said under the exclusions it say "Damage caused during, or as a result of delivery, handing, set up, or assembly...." makes this ineligible. I stated to her that this damage was from none of the scenarios stated in the exclusions and exactly as specified in the "Wood Standard Coverage" policy. She continued to argue with me about other areas that then make it excluded which did not even make sense. Stating that because it was a "plastic or metal part, such as a hinge and drawer slide" made it excluded. I again explained that it is not a drawer slide, hinge, or plastic or metal part. But they were not having it.

In regards to the love seat rip, she said that because it was a seam stitch that ripped away, it is ineligible. We went around and round with this too. Finally she said I can email the dispute department to try and resolve this. She gave me the address and then we disconnected. Within one minute of disconnecting, I received a call back and they stated they would send a technician to repair the chair, but not the seam rip. They did not state why they suddenly changed their mind, but most likely because I read every single word in the fine print of the policy and had them tied. I decided to just take what was offered and forego arguing the seam rip at this time.

Fast forward and a repair tech that is sub-contracted by these warranty companies came out and repaired the chair. While he was here he could not believe that either claim was denied. Especially the rip in the love seat! He stated that we should never buy the additional protection warranties for furniture. He said the representatives are trained to automatically deny everything. They do this in hopes the customers just go away, after they already have your money from buying the warranty. He said he sees it all the time. Luckily the tech was a great person and showed up how to remove the love seat back to make the repair ourselves. We did make the seam repair ourselves and put it back together.

Long story short, DO NOT buy a protection plan from Guardian if you value any of your time and money. Because you will waste both with them. Aaron Eckert,

Guardian has reviewed your complaint are very sorry for the frustration and inconvenience that this has caused.

We have reviewed your claim in its entirety and agree that the frame damage to the recliner is covered by your Protection Plan and should have never been denied coverage. For this, we cannot apologize enough as we certainly understand how this may look. We assure you that we do stand behind our Plans and provide coverage for exactly what the Plan states. It does appear that after the agent reviewed your Protection Plan coverage's further, it was determined that this damage was covered by your Plan, which is why the ineligible status was corrected and approved for coverage. Again, we cannot apologize enough for the frustration that this has caused you.

    Regarding the seam separation,

While the Protection Plan does provide coverage for accidental rips, cuts, and punctures, this Plan specifically excludes seam separation or seam slippage. Unfortunately, it does not matter whether the damage was caused by an accident or normal use, seam separation would not be covered under any circumstance. We have emailed you, through your Guardian account, including a copy of your Protection Plan and have highlighted the specific exclusion to coverage supporting the denial of the seam separation.

We are truly sorry for the frustration, confusion and inconvenience that this has caused you but we do thank you for taking the time to voice your concerns.

I'm incredibly frustrated with Guardian. They do not follow their own guidelines. I bought a 3 piece sectional for quite a bit of money and bought the guardian warranty in case anything happened to it. On the day before Christmas, my 3 year old daughter got a hold of scissors from our present wrapping and went to town on our living room. Chairs, rocking chair, bassinet and the fronts of our entire sectional were covered in small cuts afterwards. When I called Winner Furniture to file a claim, I was directed to the Guardian website. I immediately received a response of denied because they said 7 cuts could not possibly have occurred at one time. I argued with multiple guardian representatives and they all refused to help.

Guardian's policy specifically says CUTS with an S. Which means more than one puncture, cut, tear, burn etc during a relatable incident. Even though I explained this happened in one "Relatable" incident, they all refused to cover help. Either Guardian is threatening their employees who might be inclined to help or they are simply lying outright to customers who pay thousands of dollars for false assurance. I am wondering if Guardian is doing this to enough people that it might be worth talking to a large legal firm about forming a class action lawsuit. Avoid Guardian if at all possible!

    Andrew Rodgers,

Guardian has reviewed your complaint and are very sorry for the frustration that this has caused you.

We have reviewed your claim in its entirety and stand behind the denial of your claim. The Protection Plan that you have purchased does provide coverage for accidental rips, cuts, burns or punctures related to a single occurrence. However, the extent of the damages you have reported cannot be classified as a single accidental occurrence. You have reported multiple cuts from your 3 year old child throughout your entire sectional. The pictures that you have provided do not show minor cuts but show cuts that would have taken extensive effort to cause. The child would have had to go from one piece to another causing these cuts for this extent of damage to have happened. Unfortunately, this is not from a single incident but is from multiple incidents within that day/evening. We are very sorry for the frustration that this has caused, but the extent of the damages shown in the pictures that you provided are not covered by this Protection Plan.

    Sincerely,

    Guardian Protection Products

I'm disappointed with this people. I bought a sectional, carpet, cupboard, 6 chairs dinning table from Bob's Furnitures. I was told by Bob's associate the insurance covers stain, or damages and can be clean, repaired or replaced after five years. I was never told about an incidence nor given the definition of their incidence. I bought this insurance for all my items almost a thousand dollars.

Last week my daughter made some three cuts on the sectional and I called Bob's furniture then they directed me to Guardian. I was never even told it's a third party type of business. I need my refund or my item replaced or I will stay here giving my testimony to others this is bad business and poor communication just to get people money. You can't tell me you cover damages then I report my damage you tell me it's more than one incidence. This cuts were made same day, same time, is that not an incident. You policy says CUTS with an S. That's a plural which means multiple punctures, burns. All those are plurals. You people are playing with people money. It took me lot of hours to get this together.

I have a Guardian Protection for my couch which has a armless power chair that is no longer working - the protection is in place since I bought the couch back in 2016. The story starts from 2017 when I opened a claim with Guardian for the chair, which stopped working. At the time Guardian told me this chair is under mfg warranty, and rightfully so; I contacted the seller (Huffman Koos) and they took care of it. They did not leave me any invoice though nor something explaining how the chair was fixed.

Now back to present, I have the same issue starting to happen with the armless chair late last year. I opened a claim with Guardian. First they told me this is the problem from back in 2017 and we do not fix old issues; When I told them the original issue was fixed from 2017, They asked me for the proof. since I did not have any proof, I contacted Huffman Koos which indicated that old company that took care of my couch last time is no longer in business; instead Huffman Koos sent their notes indicating my issue was taken care of and the couch was fixed. NOW Guardian states that they need to know exactly what was fixed and without that they do not fix anything. I told them last time they verbally told me it was the switch but they wants something in writing from the other company which no longer exists. Basically they declined my Claim for NOTHING.

    MARINA TURNER,

Guardian has reviewed your complaint and are very sorry for the confusion and frustration that this has caused.

The Protection Plan that you purchased through Bobs Customer Care does provides coverage for all accidental stains. However, the Protection Plan specifically states that coverage is for accidental stains or damages from a single incident. You reported having stains on all seat cushions of your sofa, loveseat and ottoman, that were possibly from dirt caused by your kids. Unfortunately, the Plan specifically excludes general soiling stains or stains that cannot be attributed to a single incident. Having stains on all seat cushions of all three pieces of furniture cannot be attributed to a single incident. Due to the stains not being related to a single incident, as your Plan requires, we are unable to offer coverage for this claim.

We also started hearing some cracking type of frame notices when you sit down like structural damage. This set is brand new! I contacted the protection plan and filed a claim. I received an email stating to provide pictures and a copy of my purchase agreement because they didn’t have it. I immediately did so.

1 week later I sent another email checking status since I hadn’t heard anything. A day later I received a denial email on both items filed because only stains are covered. What the heck! Why have coverage?! This couch should not be broken nor should it be ripping! I still have two more payments! I’ll be contacting the store and telling them about this so called protection plan they’re selling! It’s a rip off and not worth my money! Catrina Loera,

Guardian has reviewed your complaint and are very sorry for the frustration and inconvenience that this has caused.

The Protection Plan that you have purchased does provide coverage for a variety of accidental stains, along with accidental rips, cuts, burns or punctures from a specific incident. While we understand that the rip was not caused intentionally, your Plan requires that damages of this nature be related to a specific incident. Due to not knowing what caused the rip, the damage could not be related to a specific incident therefore would not be covered by this Protection Plan. Regarding the possible frame damage, your furniture is less than 6 months old, which means that you may have a manufacturer's warranty that is still valid. We suggest reaching out to the store that you purchased your furniture from and reporting the frame damage under your manufacturer's warranty.

    Kay Yeoman,

We would like to thank you for taking the time to voice your experience with Guardian Protection Products. We are sadden to hear that the damage you are experiencing was found to be ineligible for coverage based upon the Protection Plan that you have purchased. We have reviewed your claim in its entirety and found that the ineligible status will remain. The Protection Plan that you have purchased does provide coverage for accidental breakage to the frame or springs. However, this Plan requires that all damages be related to a customer caused accident. You reported that you sat down on this unit and heard a noise and found that the frame had broken. While we agree that you did not cause this damage intentionally, sitting on the furniture is part of the intended use of the furniture. The Goof Proof Protection Plan is designed to provide coverage for damages that occur from a customer caused accident. This Plan does not provide coverage for any damage that occurs while the furniture item is normally being used, as this is not an extension of the manufacturer's warranty. We do understand how frustrating this is, however, we can only provide the coverage as its stated in the terms of your Protection Plan.

Guardian sent a repairman who was in my home for less than five minutes. The chair worked when he has here. He was urged to stay keep trying it and he refused and left saying there was nothing wrong with it. Within minutes after he left, it failed to work again.

Despite calling him back - his mailbox was full. I was notified today that this problem was deemed to be normal wear and tear and not covered per the technician. The power chair is not working. The leather and chair have been meticulously maintained, but because power cannot get to the control - it is deemed wear and tear? Beware of a company that takes your money and fails to provide the services that you paid for or have repairmen that will take a reasonable amount of time to actually diagnose what the problem is.

Was recommended to buy Guardian extended warranty by salesman being that I spend over $ 4000.00. That way if anything like tears, rips, stains, or breakage or cuts it would be covered so I did. I accidentally sat on my couch with my pocket knife in back pocket and cut the side I sat on and had a couple of scratches. Called guardian products warranty and sent pictures. Got back to me the next day and told me it was not covered, to call the store I bought it from to see if they would help me. Very rude on phone. DON'T buy this warranty. It's a rip off a SCAM. Bunch of thieves taking our hard earned money. RATS.

The Guardian protection plan for the couch is good. But the wait once you place the service request was ridiculous. You gotta wait weeks and weeks. I got the plan strictly based on the fact that I have animals. Specifically, I have a rabbit that, unfortunately, every now and then, if she's not watched closely, pees on my couch. She did pee on my couch, and I had to wait almost three weeks for someone to get that out. I needed a Saturday appointment on a late afternoon. Furthermore, the people at the store guaranteed that animal urine, if that happens, is covered but when they called me, they said they don't cover it.

The manager said that the plan covered more than it actually covered just to basically sell it, and I bought it based on that. The guy who comes and cleans it does a very nice job. It did get the smell out only because the urine didn’t soak through the foam. I had a blanket on the couch, so I pulled the blanket off and then I shoved a towel in between the cushion and the top of the material that covers it. This protected the couch from getting the smell.

    Jennifer Shannon,

Guardian has reviewed your complaint and are very sadden to hear of the timeframe it took to service the stains you reported. We assure you that bodily fluid claims are a priority to Guardian and we try to assign technicians' to those claims as quickly as possible. Guardian does hire third party companies, located in the customer's area, to perform the services needed. Unfortunately, we are unable to schedule those appointments as they are based upon both the technician's and customer's availability. With the holiday's just around the corner, our technician's appointment slots are filling up rather quickly, which can cause a delay in available appointment times. However, we are truly sorry for the wait you had to experience to receive the service to your furniture. Please understand that this is not typical and we try to service all of our customers as quickly as possible.

In regards to pet bodily fluid stains, the Protection Plan that you have purchased does provide coverage for pet bodily fluid stains from a single incident. We are very sorry if you were given in accurate information.

I noticed it right away and cleaned it up but then the next day, I noticed that it was a little hard and I was afraid it was gonna get a smell, like a formula smell. Now Wyckes was not at all being helpful to get my item fix was not compiling with them to get the information that Guardian was needed to get it fix or the matter replaced. Now Guardian was with me and working together to get a respond from Wyckes to get it resolved. Now they were not able to get Rich the owner of the store to respond to calls or emails and even with me also trying to call and email them to resolve the issue and between them and me going to the store a couple times for him to comply with Guardian. The result was that

Guardian went ahead and issue an authorize payment to Wyckes for the value of the sofa to get it replaced for the same value that I paid.

Now Wyckes was going out of business which did not advise Guardian or me on this matter it was Guardian advise me the check went out to the store and was cashed by Rich the owner from Wyckes and with that information went down to the store which I’m glad they advise me of it because they were closing the store in a few days so would have be left me with no sofa or the money that they had sent to them which Rich did not advise me of these the owner of the store that was closing the store. So thank god I went a few days after Guardian had advise me that check went out and had to pick out an item from the floor which was nothing much left but did get the sofa replaced. I felt it was not the same value which Wyckes was pulling one over and keeping what they can from the check of course and advise Guardian of it and they offer me a check for an added value to me direct to make me feel that was not cheated out of what I paid for the sofa.

Now Courtney was a wonderful person at Guardian, was there throughout all this with me and keep in touch with me and assist me anyway possible to make me happy. Thank God for them at Guardian because Wyckes would have lifted me with a broken sofa and out money. Thank you again Courtney and the other parties involved at Guardian you saved me and doing everything in your power to please me which they did.

Last month I put a claim in for a middle piece between my sofa, the screws stripped and the backing fell out. Guardian denied the claim saying it doesn't cover hardware.

Today I put a claim in because there was a rip between the leather cushions on my couch. As I was reclining the couch back up to the sitting position, it was hooked onto a metal piece on the couch and it ripped. I sent the pictures and explained what happened and opened my email today just see that the claim was also denied.

GUARDIAN PROTECTION IS A COMPLETE SCAM. ANY CLAIM YOU PUT IN WILL BE DENIED. My warranty states it covers ACCIDENTAL RIPS which is clearly what happened. Who would purposely damage their furniture. They refused to honor and I FEEL COMPLETELY RIPPED OFF!!!!! I have this insurance for 5 years and it's only been a year and 2 months that I've had it and I can't do anything with it. It's a rip off! Keep your money in your pockets people.

Two, the last experience we had with dealing with a furniture warranty ended up taking MONTHS and we just had to purchase a new item.

The folks at Guardian reached out to me within the “3 days” that were mentioned on their website when I filed the claim. I opened a claim ** with Guardian about an accidental damage to my sofa that was purchased at Bob's furniture, I spoke to them in August picking one of the options they offered (check payment or exchanging item) and was informed that I should wait 5 days and then get in touch with Bob's furniture. They claim that they have sent an email after that to notify me that my claim was approved and it will only be valid for 30 days. I was traveling around that time and do not remember seeing any email like that.

Now they are saying they cannot open the claim as it is beyond that 30 day period. Bob's customer care asked me to get in touch with Guardian and Guardian says it cannot re-open it. Why cannot Guardian send 2-3 emails as reminders to catch customer's attention so it helps in case customer never received the first communication. No insurance company should work with such crazy policies. I really regret that I paid extra for an insurance coverage from a company that really does not care to resolve issues for customers. Opening an approved claim is not possible after 30 days, seriously is it that difficult? If you really care for customers, send reminder emails or make automated calls asking them to take action but do not close claims like this and lose trust of your customers. I will never buy any product of Guardian in the future and will also let all my friends and relatives.

I called for service because the push-back recliner is not mechanized and the back wouldn't go back when you push back on it. It would get back and it wouldn’t go back. I went online, but the website is not customer friendly. I'm not a techie, and so it took me a little while to go through the thing and answered all the questions. And then, I had to send them a picture, and I didn’t know how to do that on my computer, and so we went around a couple of times about that. Finally, somebody helped me and I was able to send them a picture, and then they scheduled the appointment. So, I wasn’t too happy about that initial contact with the company.

After five days, a gentleman came and he was very nice, polite and knowledgeable about leather, and the chair itself, and he fixed it. And so, I was very pleased with the whole visit. He gave me a few pointers. He told me what kind of cleaner to use on the leather that would be good for it. The customer service was very good too.

Update: Guardian offered us a replacement or money towards another item. We elected to not take their offer since, 1) most of the bed was fine and there was no need to get rid of it; 2) We have no reason to believe a replacement would work any better than the one that broke on us, and 3) if we used their allowance to help purchase another item, we'd have to return the entire bed. We ultimately decided to purchase a metal frame ourselves to replace the support pieces that broke. I'm giving them three stars (up from one) because they did offer to replace the bed even though the issue was not an accident, which was appreciated, but we weren't impressed that they initially told us there was no recourse and didn't offer a resolution until we complained to our retailor, who then called them. In addition, the resolution involved returning the entire bed, which would have been a waste of resources.

    Original Review: Oct. 18, 2019

My wife sat on the bed and the frame broke. Because it was not accidental, they denied the claim. Our fault for not reading the fine print better, but basically the rules are very narrow and, in my opinion, not worth the cost of the policy. It took them several days to get back to us, said the decision was final, and didn't leave recourse. A better recommendation is to buy a product with excellent reviews rather than a mediocre product with a protection plan, especially from this questionable company.

We bought a sectional from Bob’s Discount furniture in May of 2018 and purchased the Goof Proof Protection plan from Guardian with the sale. We were informed that the protection plan will cover almost any normal damage or stains to the sectional for 5 years. Well we just had a house full of people over to our house the weekend of Oct 12th, 2019 to attend a fall harvest fest. There were 8 adults and over 10 kids in our house over a four-hour period. Of course, people were up and down on the furniture, kids screwing around being kids, and more traffic than is normal with just my wife and me.

At some point as the company left, my wife noticed that the ottoman was now concaved as opposed to convex. I flipped the ottoman over & you can feel that the frame has collapsed, and you can feel the wood moving around. So, Monday the Oct 14, 2019 we filed a claim with Guardian. THEY DENIED THE CLAIM, saying that there was no specific “accident” that caused the damage!!! What constitutes an accident? Someone runs a stop sign & crashes into my ottoman and THAN that would be considered an accident?

We had a house full of people over, at some point the frame on the ottoman collapsed. I didn’t see it happen, I don’t know exactly when it happened that night, but I can assure you that NO ONE DID IT ON PURPOSE, which is the very definition of an accident. What a bunch of GARBAGE, just like any other BS insurance policy...."we will cover you as long as you don't file a claim". If you do file a claim, we will find any way to deny it. They take money in and find any way they can to not pay it out. AVOID THIS PRODUCT & put the money in your own pocket.

They just came out again due to frame breakage again. He gets here, says he is here to put straps on part of couch we didn't call about and cannot fix frame as he isn't authorized. He said the straps won't help as the foam loss is causing problem. He said he would go back send them a letter that frame was still broken and repairs couldn't be done due to foam loss. He said that it should be covered due to it causing the problems. So we get email stating technician found no frame breakage and no foam loss so no coverage of repairs.

Exact opposite of what I was told and right on the ticket it shows that I called in for frame breakage. The technician said there was no ticket for that. It's ridiculous as this would be the 5th time for fixing it. This was a very expensive sectional that I cannot even use due to springs broken off frame from frame breaking, cushions so thin from foam loss. I am disabled so getting up from that is impossible. They are a joke, so I have contacted my lawyer. He suggested a class action lawsuit against Guardian, the room place for lying that everything was covered and the repair place for not doing repairs. I FINALLY got the part on April 29th and Guardian told me to call them back when I got the part and they would send someone out to put it on. I called them THAT DAY, the 29th of April and they went back and forth and the guy FINALLY came today, May 31st and put it on. Took them 4 1/2 MONTHS to get this fixed. NO EXCUSE what's so ever. 27 phone calls and 7 emails. If I had read the reviews first, I never would have taken the extended warranty. I had a bad experience with Bob's Furniture. I bought furnitures for over $7,000 and added protection to all piece of furnitures, being said I know I have 3 children and accidents happens in life. My son decided he wanted to open the crazy glue and while he tried to do that, it squirted all over my couches. Not on purpose of course by accident. The crazy glue has caused peeling to the couch. I was told by the store by multiple staff if anything happens I would be covered. Little did I really know. I called Guardian about the furniture. They said it's not covered.

In my protection plan it clearly stated the protections I had. As far as leather I am covered under "Leather standard" - Stains covered by any food or beverage normally consumed by humans; mold and mildew stains caused by food or beverage spills; stain caused by human or pet bodily fluids; grass, grease, ballpoint pen ink, iodine, nail polish, cosmetics, lipsticks, crayon, and shoe polish. Rips, cuts, punctures, or burns from a single relatable occurrence. "Leather Comprehensive 1" - Breakage of frames, springs, and sleeper, reclining, inclining, heating, and vibrating mechanism will be covered after the manufacturer's warranty has expired. "Leather plus 4" - All stains.

My warranty with the manufacturer has ended, and still can not receive help with this and I spent a lot of money on furnitures that's not guaranteed to last me over 2 years. That's terrible. I wish I knew I would have never purchased from Bob's and affiliated myself with Guardian! I personally would NOT recommend Bob's Furniture if they are using Guardian product as their insurance third party! Please don't just waste your money. If you want a furniture to last for 3 years and so on go to Raymour or Ashley's. Go some place else. I'm highly VEXED! I wasted 7k and I am still paying for furnitures that's not even good. Do not lie to consumers just to make a sale!!!

Paid almost 3K for a sectional couch with the Guardian 5 year protection warranty. A piece of wood broke on my recliner chair which made the cushion rip apart. Guardian replaced the wood but would not replace the cushion on the recliner because that is only covered for the first year of purchase. To me Guardian just don’t want to replace the recliner to save themselves money. I do not recommend Guardian when it comes to replacing sections of a couch when your warranty is about to expire! They will do the maintenance but will not replace anything if your warranty is about to expire. Would not use them again when I purchase a new sectional couch in the near future.

What is the point of purchasing the warranty or protection plan if Guardian isn't going to do anything to service you? It seems like they only respond to reviews with 5 stars. How about responding to and helping those who give the product or service a low rating.

I purchased a leather recliner sofa in 2015. The first claim I filed in 2018 because the reclining mechanism wasn't working properly. Guardian denied my claim stating the claim was ineligible for service and never provided details to back up their decision. So here I am with a chair that won't recline properly and makes noises when it does recline. I filed another claim and was told by Guardian that my claim was deemed ineligible because I filed a previous claim. Guardian is full of crap! I am so annoyed. Not only are they damaging their reputation but they are also damaging Bob's Furniture reputation as well. I will never in my life purchase another piece of furniture from that store.

When I filed my claim I told them "I sat down on the bed, and the frame gave out. I basically fell to the floor on the mattress. The rails came apart from the side."

This is the email I received..."** Claim Number: **. Guardian Protection Products has processed the claim to your furniture. The damage you have reported is not eligible for coverage under your protection plan. The plan you purchased from MORRIS FURNITURE INC does cover your furniture for breakage of wood. However your plan states all damages must be relatable to an accidental occurrence. While we understand that this damage occurred from a single incident, the incident is not classified as an accident. An accident is defined as an unfortunate incident that happens unexpectedly and unintentionally, typically resulting in damage or injury. We are very sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. Thank you for being a very valued Guardian customer and have a wonderful day."

The have a wonderful day part is a great line when declining someone's claim. WTF and "relatable" is not a word. Nice job, even spell check caught it. They directly contradict themselves here, telling me my incident aka unfortunate accident doesn't qualify because it wasn't an accident? They just defined an incident as an unfortunate accident. It was the back of the cushion that failed to recline so it has gotten stuck in a very upright position. The foot recline works fine. My claim was denied because it was outside of 30 DAYS of reporting it. So, you purchase a 5 year, $500 protection plan and if you don't report within 30 days, you are denied. So when you are submitting a claim, make sure you do it within 30 days or you too, will be denied. So when they ask you in the online section when this first occurred, make SURE it's within 30 days. This is exactly why they want you to do an ONLINE form rather than call Guardian to request a tech so they can weed out anything over 30 days and DENY it. I will also be filing a complaint with the BBB, Attorney General and write a letter to the governor, and my state’s congressmen to inform everyone I know of this company’s unethical business practices and taking people’s hard earned money while offering no value in return. It is like stealing from people. Stay far away from this company.

We've used Guardian several times and it has been wonderful. They were able to send a technician in less than a week. Their technician came out recently for a loveseat that was peed on by a child. He came in a timely manner and did a great job. It worked well, so we've been pleased.
