What is Frontdoor?

Frontdoor makes insurance claims and consultations available over an app rather than a website or lengthy phone call. As an alternative to setting up a consultation with a home repairs expert in the future, Frontdoor allows you to get in touch with experts on the spot.

The app provides a list of home repair pros in your area right when you sign up. This way, you don’t have to go through the hassle of searching for a licensed repairer. Frontdoor lists its preapproved pros with skills in plumbing, electrical, appliance repair, and heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC).

How does Frontdoor work?

When you begin to have a maintenance issue, you can open the Frontdoor app. The app will start by asking you some questions about the issue in your home. These questions help narrow down where the problem is and what brand of appliance has been affected.

Once you have answered these questions, the app puts you through to a local specialist with its live video chat feature. You can ask the maintenance specialist questions and figure out how to fix the problem on the spot or determine whether you need to take further action.

By downloading the app, you also gain access to other home maintenance articles with tips on how to fix small, common mishaps on your own. Some plans also provide discounted maintenance products.

Frontdoor offers three different plans: Frontdoor Basic, Prime and Premium.

Frontdoor costs

The Frontdoor app itself is free to download and offers an array of free resources for home maintenance, as well as one video chat with a repair expert. However, it also offers membership plans as listed above. Frontdoor Prime pricing starts at $99 per year, and Frontdoor Premium pricing starts at $35 per month. These plans come with various perks and can be somewhat personalized with extra purchases based on your specific needs.

Frontdoor FAQ

Video chat experts have a minimum of five years of experience and some kind of teaching or mentoring knowledge.

Does Frontdoor allow for plan upgrades?

Yes, you can upgrade your plan on the home screen of the app.

If I cancel my plan through Frontdoor will I be refunded?

No. Because the Prime membership payment is on a yearly basis, you cannot be refunded.

Where do I download the Frontdoor app?

Is Frontdoor worth it?

The Frontdoor app can make filing claims and expert consultations more accessible. However, video chats with experts and coverage are limited, so make sure that the services provided are enough to fit your needs.

Customer service and technicians don’t speak English. In fact, my technician was half blind and used a phone to translate. I guess I was a victim of Frontdoor too.

Repair guy came on Monday to repair my 6 year old washer that wasn’t spinning and ringing out clothes like it usually does. Everything still works, just wasn’t ringing the clothes out like normal. Repair guy came and said it was the aggregator engine. Replaced it. I washed a VERY small load of laundry and it started knocking, rocking like it was going through my Sheetrock! I called the repair guy back again and he said he’d be here on Tuesday…Never showed up even though I took off work.

He finally showed up very late on Wednesday and said it was my belt that was broken or bent. Replaced that. He showed me it was fixed even though I told him it wasn’t. Clothes are not swishing and only sit still dry as the bowl rotates. He argued with me and said multiple times I am costing him money and he is doing me a favor. I spent almost $400!! It is completely broken now and doesn’t wash clothes at all.

I called customer service for a refund and they said the technician needs to come back to my house to get his parts before they will issue a refund. I said he needs to put my old parts back on then and they said they don’t require that. I’m not comfortable with a confrontation with Daniel AGAIN!! This company is fraudulent and their practices are unethical. My washing machine washed clothes before and doesn’t now. That’s not a me problem, that’s a you problem! Stay away from this company!! It contracts random, unlicensed people and there is no guarantee or warranty!!

They send shady-looking contractors to your house; they indicate they do background checks, but it's doubtful, not from what I've seen. The organization hides behind voicemail and answering services when these techs they send to your house screw up appliances they are sent to fix. Once they collect whatever service fees, upfront fees, etc., that they swindle out of you without providing real service, they become ghosts!!!

And I am genuinely convinced that the organization is just one guy sitting on a phone, sending unqualified, despairing people to your house. It appears to be this one foreign guy, I suspect of ** origin based on his accent, who seems to be the only one manning a phone, and this is the number you call to book an appointment (that's when the Con begins) the other numbers associated with the establishment, all calls are sent straight to a voice mailbox. Check the BBB (Better Business Bureau), NOT LISTED!!!! But their website looks good. :(

Appointment window was between 11am and 1 pm. At one o’clock I tried to reach out to customer service at the number listed in the multiple appointment verifications that I had received. Waited until I was forced to leave a callback message. That never came. At 4pm Frontdoor called to tell me that they had been unable to schedule a technician for appointment time. They knew that before the appointment time but waited until after the appointment window closed. They wanted to reschedule. Seriously?? I didn’t want to wait around all day again for something that wasn’t going to happen.

One star is too high truly sub-zero stars. Last week we attempted to take advantage of dryer vent cleaning special through Frontdoor, from American Home Shield. First, Frontdoor's website didn't have dryer vent cleaning as a category to choose from. So, not knowing any better at the time, I chose appliance service over carpet cleaning. I then wrote in the notes that I was requesting the vent cleaning deal and scheduled an appointment. The next day, the "tech" called and said that he doesn't do vents and that I needed to reschedule. My wife had stayed home from work - 4 lost hours. I then called to reschedule, since obviously Frontdoor's site didn't allow for proper scheduling.

Fast forward to today, my wife stayed home from work this morning for a CONFIRMED (multiple times) 9-11am appointment. At 11am, after zero communication from Frontdoor I called and was told; the service provider they reached out to never accepted the appointment. So my wife has now lost a full day's pay due to terrible communication and unreliable service techs. To top it off, the agent said they only have a couple of techs in our area to choose from, but agreed that they provide terrible customer service. We have been quite happy with American Home Shield, but I would suggest steering clear from the Frontdoor side of their business - other than a friendly voice (after many attempts) I would not trust their operation. No call backs either.

Tech was an hour past the window and said he needed to reschedule to next day. Never showed the next day. All the customer service would do is reschedule an appointment. Offered nothing for wasting my time.

On November 19th a Frontdoor Pro repairman came to my home to repair a faulty burner in my gas cooktop. He had been out the week before, but had to order a part. When he went to disassemble the burner, he shattered the glass surface of the entire cooktop. He immediately contacted Frontdoor while standing in my kitchen and sent photos of the damage. The next day I spent 6 hours on hold trying to contact Frontdoor to start a claim. I finally reached a human by using the "new appointment" option on their phone system instead of the "existing appointment" option. I had left countless messages before that and no one ever returned my call.

I spoke to a rep named "Queen" who said they were just waiting for photos of the damage. I explained that the repairman sent photos the night before when he notified Frontdoor that he destroyed my property. She texted me so I could send her the photos again, which I did at 3:25pm on November 20th. I was told someone from the claims dept would contact me within 24-48 hours, but 48 hours later, I still did not receive a call so I called them back. The representative I reached today told me that they can't work on the claim because they need photos. I explained that photos had been sent multiple times. Representatives seem to be trained to say they have no photos even after they've been provided multiple times. That seems like a scam.

I have a house full of guests arriving the day before Thanksgiving to spend 3 days at my home and now I do not have a stove to cook on. The company has left me with an unusable cooktop with sharp shards of glass. I'm terrified that grandchildren and great-grandchildren may be injured on the sharp surface. GE says not to use the cooktop at all due to potential fire and electrical hazards plus the possibility that the shattered glass will shatter even more. Frontdoor Pro has been difficult to contact, unresponsive to voicemails, and the worst experience I've had with home repair since I bought my first house in 1979. They have been so bad that I may need to contact the local news station to receive help.

I highly regret using this service. Had service scheduled this past Saturday 11/16 to look at my fridge which is not cooling anymore. Tech late, never got an ETA, when he did get there he couldn't fix my fridge (not his fault, a part needs to be fixed, he was very nice and knowledgeable), yet I also can't get in touch with FDP for a quote for the part, which I need to submit my claim to home depot for my fridge's protection plan. No email responses, and can't reach them by phone even after leaving voice messages. Steer clear, this place is shady.

Frontdoor is a rip-off. They send out supposedly technicians who don't know what they are doing. I had a person from them come to repair my washer. He struggled and could not find out what was wrong with it. Finally, he claimed that nothing was wrong with it. He then proceeded to charge me $253 and falsely claimed he sent me an invoice stating what he repaired. In the end, my washer was not repaired; it continued to do the same thing.
