What is Frontdoor?

Frontdoor makes insurance claims and consultations available over an app rather than a website or lengthy phone call. As an alternative to setting up a consultation with a home repairs expert in the future, Frontdoor allows you to get in touch with experts on the spot.

The app provides a list of home repair pros in your area right when you sign up. This way, you don’t have to go through the hassle of searching for a licensed repairer. Frontdoor lists its preapproved pros with skills in plumbing, electrical, appliance repair, and heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC).

How does Frontdoor work?

When you begin to have a maintenance issue, you can open the Frontdoor app. The app will start by asking you some questions about the issue in your home. These questions help narrow down where the problem is and what brand of appliance has been affected.

Once you have answered these questions, the app puts you through to a local specialist with its live video chat feature. You can ask the maintenance specialist questions and figure out how to fix the problem on the spot or determine whether you need to take further action.

By downloading the app, you also gain access to other home maintenance articles with tips on how to fix small, common mishaps on your own. Some plans also provide discounted maintenance products.

One phrase, bait and switch. I purchased a special through my appliance insurance (American Home Shield) for a $99 dryer vent cleaning. I received an invoice for $179.00. When I inquired about the price, I was told it was because my dryer vent was longer than what the $99 service covered. The tech called me 4x’s: the first call to report he was running behind, the second time to share he was en route and 10 mins out, the third time to ask me to sign/consent to service, the final time I was told the service was complete and my discount would be reflected on the invoice. Neither of the four times was I informed that there was an additional cost associated with the service.

When I expressed my sheer shock and disdain and requested that my price be adjusted to what I agreed to pay when I scheduled the service I was met with a snarky comment by the customer service rep asking “You mean to tell me you just signed without reading the invoice?” It’s important to mention that nowhere on the invoice does it show an additional standard charge for my vent being longer. There is simply two lines of charges with a description Hire Pro to clean your dryer vent. This company lacks integrity and is frauding customers. This is for the Washington, DC Metro area.

Told me it was going to be $270 then it magically went up to 300+ when I told him I did not agree to that price, he told me he had to finish because he had already started. I was forced to pay when I was told a different price. Never again.

We have their tech on video saying he broke it and would fix it. We have been fighting American Home Shield on it and are heading to required Arbitration in which they are avoiding. We also filed a criminal complaint complaint and investigators sent it to Prosecution. Beware of them!

SCAM - Frontdoor pro tries to require the home owner to pay extra for previously paid installation services that were paid through Moen for a Flo valve. There was no extra work, and they tried to make me pay an extra $325. I am a licensed plumber, and the bare minimum it would take is two joints to install a valve, which is exactly what they did. This is a racket. Do not pay the extra work invoices if they are not approved ahead of time.

I had a terrible experience with this company. They repeatedly cancelled and rescheduled my appointments, including one where the technician never showed up. I only learned it was cancelled on the same day. This wasn’t just inconvenient — I had to travel to my property specifically for the installation, and their unreliability cost me both time and money. Although they sound polite on the phone, they are not dependable and continually change plans. I will not be using them again and would strongly caution others.

The service person that came to my home was not friendly, did not say hello or introduce himself, barked orders at me, and left a mess in his work space and the work is an eyesore. Seriously, this is the brand experience you want me to have? I was required by my home insurance to install a Moen water monitor and shutoff device and they had it installed by Frontdoor. Frontdoor keeps sending me marketing solicitations to use their service but the experience was so poor that I would never consider them again.

I recently booked dryer vent cleaning through Frontdoor, thinking I was booking with American Home Shield due to their partnership. Unfortunately, my experience with Frontdoor was disappointing. Despite the special offer for AHS customers, it was clear we weren't a priority, as the service was delayed, and communication lacked clarity. Frontdoor could not find anyone to fulfill my appointment and I was told twice that someone would get back to me to reschedule. That call never happened. I provided my credit card details, but they claim I haven’t been charged—I'll be verifying this as well. They obviously got a large response to this promo but lacked the manpower to provide the service. And in the end, their full price paying customers got the service leaving us AHS customers in the dust. Overall, the experience left me frustrated and undervalued as a customer." I’m not sure why AHS would partner with them and I will never rely on Front Door again!

Customer service and technicians don’t speak English. In fact, my technician was half blind and used a phone to translate. I guess I was a victim of Frontdoor too.

Repair guy came on Monday to repair my 6 year old washer that wasn’t spinning and ringing out clothes like it usually does. Everything still works, just wasn’t ringing the clothes out like normal. Repair guy came and said it was the aggregator engine. Replaced it. I washed a VERY small load of laundry and it started knocking, rocking like it was going through my Sheetrock! I called the repair guy back again and he said he’d be here on Tuesday…Never showed up even though I took off work.

He finally showed up very late on Wednesday and said it was my belt that was broken or bent. Replaced that. He showed me it was fixed even though I told him it wasn’t. Clothes are not swishing and only sit still dry as the bowl rotates. He argued with me and said multiple times I am costing him money and he is doing me a favor. I spent almost $400!! It is completely broken now and doesn’t wash clothes at all.

I called customer service for a refund and they said the technician needs to come back to my house to get his parts before they will issue a refund. I said he needs to put my old parts back on then and they said they don’t require that. I’m not comfortable with a confrontation with Daniel AGAIN!! This company is fraudulent and their practices are unethical. My washing machine washed clothes before and doesn’t now. That’s not a me problem, that’s a you problem! Stay away from this company!! It contracts random, unlicensed people and there is no guarantee or warranty!!

One star is too high truly sub-zero stars. Last week we attempted to take advantage of dryer vent cleaning special through Frontdoor, from American Home Shield. First, Frontdoor's website didn't have dryer vent cleaning as a category to choose from. So, not knowing any better at the time, I chose appliance service over carpet cleaning. I then wrote in the notes that I was requesting the vent cleaning deal and scheduled an appointment. The next day, the "tech" called and said that he doesn't do vents and that I needed to reschedule. My wife had stayed home from work - 4 lost hours. I then called to reschedule, since obviously Frontdoor's site didn't allow for proper scheduling.

Fast forward to today, my wife stayed home from work this morning for a CONFIRMED (multiple times) 9-11am appointment. At 11am, after zero communication from Frontdoor I called and was told; the service provider they reached out to never accepted the appointment. So my wife has now lost a full day's pay due to terrible communication and unreliable service techs. To top it off, the agent said they only have a couple of techs in our area to choose from, but agreed that they provide terrible customer service. We have been quite happy with American Home Shield, but I would suggest steering clear from the Frontdoor side of their business - other than a friendly voice (after many attempts) I would not trust their operation. No call backs either.

On November 19th a Frontdoor Pro repairman came to my home to repair a faulty burner in my gas cooktop. He had been out the week before, but had to order a part. When he went to disassemble the burner, he shattered the glass surface of the entire cooktop. He immediately contacted Frontdoor while standing in my kitchen and sent photos of the damage. The next day I spent 6 hours on hold trying to contact Frontdoor to start a claim. I finally reached a human by using the "new appointment" option on their phone system instead of the "existing appointment" option. I had left countless messages before that and no one ever returned my call.

I spoke to a rep named "Queen" who said they were just waiting for photos of the damage. I explained that the repairman sent photos the night before when he notified Frontdoor that he destroyed my property. She texted me so I could send her the photos again, which I did at 3:25pm on November 20th. I was told someone from the claims dept would contact me within 24-48 hours, but 48 hours later, I still did not receive a call so I called them back. The representative I reached today told me that they can't work on the claim because they need photos. I explained that photos had been sent multiple times. Representatives seem to be trained to say they have no photos even after they've been provided multiple times. That seems like a scam.

I have a house full of guests arriving the day before Thanksgiving to spend 3 days at my home and now I do not have a stove to cook on. The company has left me with an unusable cooktop with sharp shards of glass. I'm terrified that grandchildren and great-grandchildren may be injured on the sharp surface. GE says not to use the cooktop at all due to potential fire and electrical hazards plus the possibility that the shattered glass will shatter even more. Frontdoor Pro has been difficult to contact, unresponsive to voicemails, and the worst experience I've had with home repair since I bought my first house in 1979. They have been so bad that I may need to contact the local news station to receive help.

I recently used Front DoorPro’s refrigerator repair services for my freezer, which was not freezing. Unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. Punctuality Issues: The service technician was late for the original scheduled appointment. He returned two days later with the motherboard, but the refrigerator still wasn’t cooling. Despite being advised that the technician would return if the refrigerator wasn’t cooled within 24 hours, I had to call them just three hours after he left because nothing was running or cooling down. Misdiagnosis and Delays: When the technician returned on Friday, he informed us that the issue was something different that he hadn’t checked during the initial visit. Due to the holiday weekend, the next available appointment was Tuesday. However, the technician did not show up on time, and I had to call them at 10:20 AM to find out the status.

The appointment was then rescheduled to Wednesday, and again, no one showed up on time. This pattern continued, with the appointment being rescheduled multiple times, ultimately pushing it to the 12th. Lack of Communication: Throughout this process, there was a severe lack of communication. Not once did the repairman show up on time, and I had to constantly follow up to get updates. Financial and Service Dissatisfaction: Despite paying almost $500 for repairs and parts, my refrigerator is still not fixed. The technician’s knowledge and the company’s communication were severely lacking. I would not recommend Front DoorPro to anyone due to their poor communication, unreliable scheduling, and inadequate repair services.

When something is broken in my house I look for possible fixes in YouTube videos, but I can't always find an accurate diagnosis of my particular problem and I often spend a lot of time searching without knowing for sure I'll find what I need. I ran across an ad for the Frontdoor app, and the first time I used it I was blown away! It took less than two minutes to connect with a technician who correctly diagnosed the rapid, loud clicking sound my dryer was making as lint built up on the motor fan. (I had found NOTHING even close to that in internet searches).

Using the camera on my phone he walked me through the entire process of removing the dryer top, door, bottom panel, and fan cover. He then waited while I cleaned caked on lint from the fan blades and guided me through the reassembly process. He was very patient throughout, saying several times he was going to stick with me until the job was done. Safety was very important to him. He made me show him that the dryer was disconnected from power and warned me about possible sharp edges on parts. There is nothing better than a totally free repair!

A few weeks later I used the app when the pressure sensitive "buttons" on my range display started to fail, one-by-one. This time the technician guided me through the diagnosis process, determined the display had to be replaced, gave me the part number, and told me once I had purchased one to call back for the installation instructions.

Once again, he patiently guided me through the installation. Several times he took snapshots of the front panel as I was disassembling it for reference when "we" later put it back together, and he could circle areas on the phone's camera display where bolts went, cable connections had to be made, etc. This is a perfect pairing of phone and remote session technology to get these jobs done!
