BFP charged me $1,850 for following work:
. Empty and remove toilet
. Chip concrete around existing flange
. Remove old flange
. Install new easy set or Case iron-type toilet flange
. Reinstall toilet and test
. Caulk base of toilet
The part is about $150 to $200. The work is about 1.5 hours to 2 hours. I am guessing the labor is about $800 to $900 an hour. Some people recommend me to reach out to the Attorney General and file a complaint.

My reason for contacting Benjamin Franklin Plumber’s was a toilet bubbling after flushing. I feared something much worse was going to transpire. I showed the first tech what my toilet was doing. The tech and proceeded to my basement, he then indicated I needed pipes replaced and some major work done. He kept looking at his phone. I kept asking what his estimate was. I thought I needed my system snaked from the house to the city hook up - I declined what he was proposing as I have had another Plumber do several jobs for him but he does not have the power snake system- so then the tech changed his recommendation and agreed I should have my system drain cleaned.
He was told by his boss I should pay half upfront. I declined to do that then he wanted me to agree to is half when the next tech arrived I agreed - when the second tech came he tried to get me to agree to what the first tech proposed. I said no so he got the snake machine with a camera gear in there and advised I needed my pipes underground replaced, at this point, I was very suspicious and told him I would think about it - paid clues to 900$ which was nothing compared to the 3,000, or 5,000 job they were trying to sell me- after he left my toilet continued to bubble so I at least knew my system had been power washed.
I called my plumber who has done work for me. He suggested these people were trying to scam me into unnecessary work. He snaked my toilet and laughed and said- there was merely an obstruction in my toilet which imagine my grandson dropped something in there, he charged me 100.$ end of story. I will never use Benjamin Franklin again.

I had a conversation with the owner, Kate. I 100% changed my opinion after talking with her. She and I talked through my issue and we came to a mutual agreement. I will use this company again and I will recommend this company.

My water was shut off and I needed someone quick. Nice guy, good job BUT, 30 minutes of work for $719. Parts were about $50 to $100. I am guessing the labor is $600 an hour? Holy crap. I would never use them again. My opinion is they are opportunists that catch you when you have no other choice. Some people call that price gauging. I will reach out to the Attorney General and file a complaint. I have called and e-mailed them with no response.

BFP, their name is fitting since your Benjamin’s is all they care about. If you want to throw away money and engage in a shouting match with extortionist call BFP. They send salesmen like David ** to inspect your job not plumbers as explained to me by his boss Felix **. Felix called the night prior to my install to inform me my job was undersold and if I wanted a pressure valve with my new tub/shower installation it would cost an additional $1800.00. Basically, they sell cars without steering wheels. I was told this was in my contract. Last I checked I am not a plumber to know what goes into the walls. I was under the normal understanding bath units give baths. I was forced to cancel the job. It was one of the worst experiences of my life. If a review could go viral, make it this one. Stay far away from this so called business. Proceed at your own risk you have been warned!

Had an emergency pipe burst and 5 other plumbers couldn't come out until Monday (it was Saturday). Thankfully Benjamin Franklin could come out. They told me it would be a $99 consulting fee and that was fine. What I didn't expect was their tiered rip off structured fees...wow. I needed an access panel cut to a broken pipe and a couple shut off valves installed. I ended up paying $642 for literally 20 minutes of work and he didn't even hook up the pipes to the faucet because that would have cost another $200. To install a faucet would have cost almost $1200. I am buying my own and having a local company install it. No chance they were getting another cent from me. Live and learn.

We could not get a clear idea of the charge for installing a new garbage disposal. The office said a technician would look at the job for $189; but that amount would be credited right back for the installation that he could do when he was here. We had bought the exact disposal, cleaned the area, provided a mat and microfibers. He said charge would be $362. What we bought the garbage disposal?? The repairman said if they had bought it with them it would be $680. The new disposal cost us $110-their charge for the same disposal was $250, according to the gentleman they sent. We would have cancelled their installation, but they would have charged us $189. For the trip. Benjamin Franklin doesn’t charge by the hour-but by the job-which they can’t quote you till they come to do the job. We felt we would like to help others. Avoid this lack of transparency!!!

I had a leaking T&P value in my water heater. I called Benjamin Franklin Plumbing for help, because their contact information was on the water heater. Mike ** came and suggested that I replace the whole water heater as it is already 10 years old. He said the tank can fail anytime and can cause flooding in my house. He said he will be able to take care of it the same day and will be installed to the city code. He initially gave me a quote of around 4,000 dollars. I told him it is too much and then he spoke with someone and lowered the price to $2,500.81. He said he need 25% upfront to get the process started. I gave him $645 as deposit. After Mike left, I did a quick research and found out the amount mentioned to be was way too much as compared to others.
I called Benjamin Franklin back and told them it was too much and I don't want to change the water heater with them and asked them to refund my deposit. Mike ** told me that the deposit is nonrefundable. I was in shock. He never mentioned anything about it. He just had me signed on the iPad. He said, "You signed the document;" I told him there was nothing mentioned or shown about nonrefundable. He said, "Well you signed the document so either you forfeit the deposit or continue with the replacement." Since $645 is lots of money, I agreed to proceed. Installation was completed. My city inspector came to inspect and told me that the water heater supposed to have automatic shut off value installed in it as that is the city code. He failed the inspection and told me Benjamin Franklin is fully aware of this requirement.
I called them back and they said that they will come to discuss this. Just now Mike ** came and told me that he was not aware of this requirement and asking me to pay $691 to add the shutoff valve. I checked for the valve and it costs only $161 dollars. I told him I am never going to fall for his trick and asked him to leave my house. If there was an option to give zero star, I would I have given. I will never every recommend Benjamin Franklin to anyone.

And all the cleaning done at the site was lost, that alone cost over 13000. They charge over 8000 for a incomplete job. And left the mess so I would take care of it. When call to fix the problem they would not take care of it, because I had installed a basement pump connected to the new sewage pipe to help with any flooding that may have occurred for all the smells we were getting out of there. We did not know what was going on because it was underneath of the plastic covering.

Now they said since I installed a pump. That voids the warranty on the job. A job they never finish!. And said they were “stepping back out of this based on the fact that I canceled their visit in April 2020. And I got the pump installed. If I knew what was going on I would let them take care of it. I had a washer drain that was plugged up from paper accidentally getting into the washer. It was a weekend night and I can’t do without a washer for more than a few days. As soon as the guy gets here he asked me to sign a waiver so they have no responsibility if anything goes wrong. He kept saying over and over how old my house was and that he didn’t want to spend much time trying to clear the drain. When he was done he then told me that they normally give a 30 guarantee on their work but since my house is old he can’t do that. My house was built in the late 60s and has been completely renovated. He then charged me 364 dollars to clear a drain he doesn’t want to take any responsibility for. They then sent me a link wanting a good review. Sorry I take no responsibility for the crappy work Steve did and his smart attitude.

The plumber, Sean, arrived at my house on time. The issue was a water leak in my garage originating from an Omni cartridge filter housing and water pipe connections positioned at the plumbing entry point by the garage door. The leak is dripping and spraying causing damage to the wall and baseboards. Additionally, a large continuous pool of water is accumulating on the floor. The plumber suggested that I purchase a new water filter apparatus and then cut the two connection pipes and solder in the new water filter unit. The plumber then charged me $80.00 for the service call and left.
As the plumber left, I realized that this plumber did not solve any problem as my water was still leaking and damage was continuing. The plumber did not offer any solutions with the exception of a $6000.00 home water filtration system or for me to try and find the same unit at a store or online. Of course, if I were to be successful finding the water filter assembly, I would still need to contact a plumber again to install it. This service call lasted only a few minutes.
Why did this plumber not just bypass or remove the damaged $25.00 water filter assembly? Why did this plumber not stop the leak? He did absolutely nothing except collect payment and left me in the same position as I was before contacting Ben Franklin Plumbing. I am now attempting to find another plumber to fix the leak!

Called to have 2 shut off valves for washer replaced. We had new flooring being installed and workers were waiting for the valve so they could remove the washer from the room that was getting a new floor. Plumber (Renaldo) showed up; I explained the situation and need for replacing the valves ASAP so they could continue their floor install. He immediately said he'd have to check my water pressure first. I suggested that he replace the valves so the work could continue and then check pressure, but he ignored that and went on to take another 30 minutes to check it. When it showed 8-10 # over, he said they would have to reduce the pressure and that was causing the valve to go. I explained that these valves were over 23 years old, I had replaced all the others in the house over the years and they simply were worn out.
I asked him to please replace the shut offs and we could talk about that later. He looked at the existing 1/4 turn valves and said, "We don't use those anymore". He attempted to install a different valve, could not get one of his to thread on, and then went to truck and brought in a set of 1/4 turn that were for a different application. I told him they were not correct, and he said they would work fine. After one more hour and 5 attempts to get them on without leaking, he said it was done. I had my wife check for any leakage, and she found water coming from one of them. He told her, "I don't know what you are seeing, but there is no leak". She was insulted by that, put a clean paper towel behind the valve and showed him the water still leaking. He then acknowledged it was leaking.
One more attempt and he had them in, although still not the correct valves. He then said there would be no warranty since we would not agree to spending $2500 to have the water pressure reduced by 10#. This man was rude and had a bad attitude from the time he arrived. He took a full 3 hours to complete a job that should have been done in less than one hour. The floor install crew had to come back the next day to finish since he took that long. We will NEVER have a Benjamin Franklin plumber in our house again, and I would not recommend them to anyone I know. I will repeat this review everywhere I can find to help protect the next unsuspecting customer.

Received call around 1or 2 pm that they had cancellation. Asked if they could come out in 1/2 to 45min. Said sure. Plumber arrived, looked over my situation said it would cost around 3500. My jaw dropped. He made a call for excavator. Then told me oh didn't realize what he charges. Price went from 3500 to 4500. Well said my option on that price dropped it to 4000. Going take two hours to dig. My words were a good excavator could have that dug less than 20minutes.
Now we're only excavating 14' long by 3' deep. Took him 15min. Now they replace two fittings replace 16' of plastic black pipe. Less than 250.00 in material 1-1/2 hr plumbers time then another 30 min. to close ditch. Left mud on our door sill an floor. Then I had to call to get copy of bill. So it cost was 250.00. Originally called Roto-Rooter. Somehow I got a callback from Ben Franklin Plumbing. Not sure why Benjamin Franklin called me back but they did. I told the woman I was looking for a septic tank inspection regarding a home sale needed for the FHA loan process. I indicated that if there are any repairs needed for this septic system to pass inspection I would like to have this done as well. The woman said sure and she told me that the next available appointment would be the following Monday. She said she would call me that morning to verify the process and then that her technician would be calling me right before coming up to the property to verify that he would be coming. She indicated that he would be coming between nine and 12 and that I should be prepared to answer my phone.
The technician never called me back so I continue to do my projects which require going under the property house without my phone. Later that afternoon I noticed I missed a call from the technician stating that he couldn’t come to the property without the phone call verification. I called them back but the number went to an answering service I left a message and got a call back from the technician who told me that I failed to return his phone call and therefore he would not come to the property.
I rescheduled again for the following Monday with the same circumstances. On this day I was able to answer the phone and spoke with the technician who wanted me to give him my credit card number and verify the working that needed to be done which included an inspection and any repairs necessary. The following day I got an email with an invoice indicating that the tag what did function properly and the leech field part good but he recommended that the tank be pumped. I called back because I didn’t understand the invoice I wasn’t sure if they actually pumped the tank or if they just recommended.
Now it had been 3 weeks since the original request. When I finally got a call back after a major runaround I missed the phone call as I was on the phone with the answering service. Finally got to talk to the technician and asked him to please define what the invoice said did the tank actually get pumped? The technician replied, "Well no. We don’t septic tanks." This led to a very volatile argument between the technician and myself as he had already wasted three weeks of my time and did not accomplish a single thing that I needed which I originally asked for but now I am out $275 for the inspection which is worthless.
Stan the technician was a very argumentative mean and angry individual and had a lot of predisposed problems apparently due to his lack of professionalism with previous clients. I feel that these people purposely misinform in order to just get an inspection fee but have no abilities to actually fix anything. Do not waste your time with this company. They will only create more problems for you! I gave them one star because there weren’t any zero stars available.

They charge me $764.00 just to install a new faucet on a new sink in my kitchen. No dishwasher or water filter connection - just a simple straight new faucet with cold and hot water. I think that price was way too high. It only took him approximately 30 minutes to complete the connection. By the way, he did not have to remove the old faucet, old sink, old piping or anything. The new sink was in place glued to the new granite countertop. He only need to connect the new faucet, hook up to the water and make sure there was no leak. The only positive comment he did a good job and there is not leak so far. I will never call them again only if under warranty repair is needed.

Updated on 06/20/2020: I wrote a scathing review a few days ago but the company has made amends for their conduct. I was quoted a lower price by one plumber but a second plumber from the same company did the job for a much higher price and failed to give me the "free" roll of toilet paper. The manager eventually called me and asked what would satisfy me. I said I wanted the job at the lower quoted price. He agreed and came to my door the next day with a check for the difference and a roll of toilet paper plus he was wearing a protective mask.
I told him that I would give him a satisfactory review and thanked him for making amends. Although we still aren’t getting hot water in the kitchen, it is warm enough to do dishes and it may be a separate problem having a separate issue with the heat pump. I have since purchased a point of use tankless water heater to solve that problem. As far as their company is concerned make sure that you understand the price before the work is ever done and if you are not satisfied it doesn't hurt to talk to the manager.
Original Review: The radio ad said that their plumbers will always arrive with a face mask and gloves and practice social distancing plus give me a free roll of toilet paper... None of that was true and three plumbers came to my home on 4 different occasions from this company. I am 72 years old and my wife is in poor health and in her late 60's, we would have appreciated the courtesy of the mask and gloves. We had a coupon for a free service call but it was not honored either. One of the plumbers sneezed twice as he sat next to me while I was getting my credit card for him.
The first visit was to asses the problem and I was charged $39.00 for the service call. I tried at first to show him the water heaters and tell him about the circulation pump that I had removed but he ignored me and went to the kitchen sink and looked under the cabinet. I had removed the pump awhile back and we've had mostly cold water since. I had put two water heaters in the closet to replace the two previous heaters that had begun leaking. I only hooked up one and saved the other for a spare.
He eventually looked over the heaters and told me that the circulation pump needed the second heater to preheat the returning water before entering the primary tank. He said he would need to hook up both tanks but he would have to remove the spare tank to have room to install the heat pump. He said that would be a lot of work so he quoted me a price of $800.00 to remove the tank and install the heat pump then to place the spare back into the closet and hook it up.
We set up an appointment for 8:00 a.m. Monday (after the weekend). During the two days prior to the appointment, I took a chain saw and widened the doorway (because there was no way to remove the spare water heater without removing the first one). I then bought a cart lift to make it easier to remove and replace the water heater as it was 18" off the floor. I removed the spare water heater myself and left it on the cart so it would be ready to install. I then made a temporary work bench (with a vise) close to the closet for him to work on. He didn't like working in the heat so I had a large fan blowing the cool morning air across the workbench and into the heater closet. I set up bright led light above the water heaters near the ceiling in the closet. I vacuumed out all the cobwebs and dust to provide him with a clean work environment. Plus I bought a brand new circulation pump.
Come Monday I waited outside from 8:00 am until almost 9:15 a.m. and another plumber arrived (No face mask, no gloves, no toilet paper). He said the first plumber couldn't make it so he checked the situation and said it would be from $400 to $600 to install the heater and pump. I told him that the other plumber said I needed both heaters hooked up and so he said he wouldn't have enough time to do the installation so he made another appointment for the first plumber to come back, again at 8:00 a.m. Thursday. This plumber was nice and friendly.
Eventually the first plumber came about 10:00 a.m. and parked about 20 feet from my garage. When he got out I told him he could park closer to the garage. He rudely replied "Now why would I want to do that?" I said that, "It might save you some walking." He then said "I'm gonna be here all day anyway". He just really did not seem to like me at all. He was a little more friendly when he saw the work area that I had prepared for him. I showed him the lift that I had the spare heater on and the new circulation pump. He said that would save him a lot of work. Then he said that I didn't really need to hook up that spare water heater and that things would be just fine without it. So I said great then just hook up the circulation pump to the water heater that I've already installed. This he did in less than 3 hours.
He took my credit card and we talked awhile and shared hobby stories and pictures. He handed me my credit card and said my receipt would be emailed to me. I was disappointed to find, that after all my prep work the bill was $716.00. That is $116.00 more than the maximum the last plumber quoted me and they are both from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing. And to top it all off we still are not getting hot water in the kitchen. So we called to complain and they sent someone out a few hours later to assess the situation.
He came without face mask or gloves but he did have shoe covers. I jokingly said that the other two plumbers didn't bring me my free roll of toilet paper. He seemed to take offense and said "I have a roll in my truck". Needless to say, he never gave me a roll. He said he would discuss the matter with his boss on Monday. Today we called but "the boss" was not available. So here I sit. Logging my complaint, consumer beware...of Benjamin Franklin Plumbing.

This this review is specifically for the Duncanville location. I would highly recommend THAT YOU DO NOT USE THEM, THEIR PRICES ARE OVERINFLATED. We own a rental property in Grand Prairie and unbeknownst to us our tenant had Benjamin Franklin Plumbing - Duncanville, come out to restart the water heater and repair a leak in the guest bathroom. When we received a copy of their bill from the tenant, I phoned Benjamin Franklin Plumbing, because I felt the $414.00 charges were excessive and asked for a breakdown of parts and labor. They told me that they charge a flat rate of $117.00 for every job they do. For example $117 to re-light the water heater and $117.00 to repair the faucet leak. I asked how they'd rebuilt the faucet and they told me they had replaced some of the washers but reused the existing parts. So what made up the additional $180 they had charged on the invoice?
I again asked for a breakdown of parts and labor and was told that their "master plumber" would call me; which of course he didn't. I called again to speak with the "master plumber" who told me that I needed to take it up with my tenant, because he was not about to credit me back for anything. I told him I was looking for a parts and labor cost breakdown because I felt they had taken advantage of the situation and overcharged the tenant; they knew this was a rental property and never received approval from us to enter the property. "Master Plumber" said that was not their mode of operation and that he'd send me a breakdown of parts and labor for the work done. After yet another call, nothing has been received

Today, two men came out. I had asked someone to come because the toilet that I had rebuilt on 9/09/08 kept running. The flapper valve (or whatever the orange thing is that seals the tank at the bottom) was not seating properly. I said valve was put in brand new on 9/09/08 and I was charged $359 for a complete toilet rebuild. I was also charged $229 for a faucet stem rebuild but that appears to still be working. When the men arrived from Ben Franklin today and looked at it, they said that the porcelain tank was deteriorating and that there were pieces in the tank. He showed me what he said was a piece of tank that was the size of a large grain of sand. The tank looks intact on all side, no signs of pieces of it falling off. He then said the real problem was the handle and quoted me $229 for a new handle and to clean the tank out.
I had also asked for a bid on a 40-gallon, gas, hot water heater and was quoted $1,579 not including tax. When I asked if it was a 12-year warranty, he said, no, for a 12-year warranty the price would be over $2500. I told him I thought the price of everything was outrageous. But the coup de grace was that afterwards when my sister burst out of the shower, screaming her head off with second degree burns, we checked and the repairmen, apparently unhappy that I would not buy my hot water heater from them nor pay $200+ for a toilet handle, turned the water heater up to high and never told me.

I had a leak and was advised I needed line detection. I called BFP who said it was $69 nonrefundable for the servicemen to come to my house but that they couldn't tell me or give me any idea how much it might cost beyond that. When the men arrived they said the initial hookup is always $$$--$200 something (I forget the exact amount b/c I had to take time to cool off) (over $200 and might be over $400).

leaking problem setting there in the garage and I dont like the way they to reroute it. If they cannot solve that situation means stop and we look to another company, because the problem is underneath the concreate the water still comes out until now and water keep in turning 24/7. And they overcharged also for diagnose using detector and rerouting around $2,800.00.And luckily the home insurance was paid $1,000.00 for that amount but we still paying the rest of that amount. Not including to fix the wall to the another contractor because they said they are not responsible for it.
