America’s Preferred Home Warranty offers two plans: the Enhanced Plan and the Legacy Plan. Which plan you choose determines what type of add-ons you can include with your plan.

The Enhanced Plan includes washer, dryer and extended pipe leak coverage.

Add-on coverage

America’s Preferred Home Warranty provides extra protection options with add-on coverage, and the company incorporates the costs into your monthly or yearly contract price. APHW also offers a Home Entertainment and Technology Plan covering gaming systems, televisions, tablets and laptops.

Like most home warranty companies, America’s Preferred Home Warranty does have many limitations and exclusions, meaning there are some things this company doesn’t cover. This company only covers breakdowns due to normal wear and tear and doesn’t include things like pet or pest damage.

America's Preferred Home Warranty coverage caps

Coverage caps limit the amount the company will pay for parts and replacements on an item. It’s important to note that America’s Preferred Home Warranty has coverage caps on most systems and appliances.

Here are some coverage caps found in the customer contract:

• Central air conditioning: $2,250
• Concealed plumbing or electrical: $500
• Ductwork: $500
• Exterior water and sewer line: $1,000
• Electric, gas and oil: $2,250
• Steam, hot water and geothermal: $1,500
• Heating and cooling combination system: $2,250
• Hotel benefits: $75 a night for three nights
• Humidifier: $500
• Kitchen refrigerator: $1,000
• Roof leak repair: $550
• Septic system: $500
• Washer and dryer: $500
• Water heater and instant hot water dispenser: $500
• Well pump: $500
• Toilets: $200
• Code violations: $250
• Additional refrigerators: $1,000
• Gas fireplace: $400
• Inground pool and spa: $600
• Premium and saltwater pool and spa: $1,200
• Sprinkler system: $250
• Termite control: $500

America’s Preferred Home Warranty offers monthly and yearly payment options. You can also choose from a $50 or $100 deductible, and the plans with $100 service fees are cheaper than the $50 plans. With APHW, you can expect to pay $47.91 to $60.48 monthly or $575 to $726 yearly at the time of publishing.

The ConsumerAffairs Research Team received a quote for $60.48 a month for the Enhanced Plan with the $50 deductible, $56.32 a month for the Enhanced Plan with the $100 deductible, $52.07 a month for the Legacy Plan with the $50 deductible and $47.91 a month for the Legacy Plan with the $100 deductible.

They also received a quote for APHW’s Home Entertainment and Technology Plan, which has a $75 deductible and is $16.58 a month or $199 a year.

Add-on costs

Discounts

This company provides $120 in identity theft and home title fraud protection when you activate your home warranty.

You must send a written notice to the Contract Administrator to cancel your contract, and there are stipulations on how you’ll receive your refund:

• If you cancel within 30 days of the contract start date, you will receive a full refund minus any claims paid.
• If you cancel 30 days after your contract start date, the refund due is based on your payment plan.
• If you paid the full annual contract fee, you will receive a prorated refund for the remaining term minus any claims paid and administrative fees.
• If you paid the monthly contract fee, your coverage will end on the last month of payment, and you will not receive a refund.
