Bought a few things from Ace online site and used my PayPal account to pay for the items. That was almost 3 weeks ago. Seven calls to customer service and a complaint thru the Better Business Bureau still hasn't resolved this problem. I issued a complaint thru PayPal and have escalated it to PayPal. Hopefully, this will get results. My advise, stay away from Ace Online. They are totally disconnected from the stores since the store are privately owned.

I attempted to purchase an electric pressure washer for the amount of $69.99. It was a good sale price and was ending on 2/28/15, the day I found out about the sale. The local Ace Hardware was closed (and I found out they didn't have it in stock anyway) and so I attempted to purchase it on the website and have it shipped to store. Unfortunately, Ace Hardware is one site where they use the Master Card SecureCode at checkout. I understand attempting to block fraudulent use of debit cards, but I could not get the SecureCode thing to work (I had not seen it before).
So, I immediately sent an email to Ace Hardware and told them of the problem. I asked to be allowed to pay for the pump either at the store after it has shipped or to get it some other way, with the same price. I was sent an email and given a phone number to contact someone that would be able to help me make the purchase (this was the next day, after the sale was over). I had some hope that I could still get the washer. Nope... I was dropped by the first rep when he accidentally hung up on me and the second one simply offered to allow me to buy the washer at the new price of $109.99 and then trust them to "credit back" the $40 overage after it had shipped.
Of course, I did not have this in writing and it worries me it would become an even greater issue later. Why can't a corporation simply charge my debit card for the $69.99 instead? Certainly they have that capability somehow. And, why the heck are they willing to take my card over the phone but not online? Couldn't it be fraudulent either way? I don't get why they won't work with me. I guess Lowe's and Home Depot will be getting a LOT more of my business. I've spent around $1,000 the past year at Ace and was going to buy about $3,000 this year as I do an add-on to my house. Now, over refusing to give me the sale price after refusing to take my card before, Ace will be losing considerably more in profit. I hope that makes them happy.

I ordered a PROPANE HEATER 40000 BTU Item #: 4308698. Subtotal: $129.99. Sales Tax: $6.89. Charge to PayPal: $136.88. When I went to pick it up the sales person accidentally scanned the heater and $93.50 popped up on display and she cleared it out real quick. Then completed the sale without any intention of refunding the price difference. I took the item home but it dawned on me later that I didn't get an $136 heater.
I went back next day and saw that my local store sells the 60,000 btu heater for $129.99. When I confronted the Manager about the issue he gave me the next size heater instead. When I contacted ACE.com they said they have no idea how much their stores charge for stuff. The Store Manager made good on the deal but they did try to get away with the scam of selling at a higher price. If ace sold from a warehouse they could make up a price. ACE lied to me about the price of an item in my local store where they sent me to pick up my purchase. My complaint is with ACE hardware Online.

We had to return 3 items that maybe equaled $42.00 which would be store credit because we lost all receipts and stuff in fire. Well you would of thought we were trying to return a $1000. Item they were so grumpy and beside themselves and throwing their hands in air & complaining because we didn't have receipt. Hello we had a fire, we told them 4 times. Which didn't even phase them - thanks for being just a tad understanding. They are twice as expensive as lowe's or home depot but ace is 5 minutes from house so it's about convenience!! Plus we were using their lousy $40, back in store credit because we needed light bulbs so they didn't lose any money and the stuff we returned was in original packaging not even opened at all and plus we have spent a lot of $$$$ at this ace hardware in jonestown, pa!!!! Well no more!!!! We DID not deserve the mean and unkind treatment we received. Customer service rating--a big "0". This ace and it's owners really need a lesson in etiquette and customer care.

Tried to order a ladder online to pick up at a store. Price $119.99 minus $20 with reward card in sales flyer. They would not deduct the $20 online. The customer service rep could not even do it when I called. She said the rewards card only good in store. No stores have the item. They use false advertising. They lost my future business.

I have raised 8 chickens for 6 months and put a lot of time and hard work. I did not get my 8 hens, I got 8 Rooster. Not what I wanted at all. Ace Hardware where I live don't want to do anything but feed and 8 more chicks, hens or Rooster. I don't want no more chickens. I am done with chickens. Talked to Ace, they act like it was not a big deal. Maybe not to them but a huge one to me and my family and loss of eggs, time and money and he just wants to give me feed and chickens. I just don't see how they can act like it is nothing. It is not a part, they are lives, 8 lives. I don't know what to do with them then. Man who owns ace hardware told me to let them go in the wild. I told him I can't do that, I have neighbors. I can not do that. He should do something with them, not me. I have done all I am doing.

I think one word describes my experience with Ace hardware - (Disgusting)! On this particular day it was the same as any other except my girlfriend was driving her vehicle this day & I rode as passenger. We went to our local grocery when she had mentioned she needed some razor blades for the scraper tool & she would need to run into Ace, uuughh - my heart sank to my stomach at the thought & I immediately tried to dissuade her from shopping there and asked if we could PLEASE go to harbor freight & tools right down the street because I needed some nuts & bolts for a dining room table project and I certainly didn't want to pay the insanely high prices for some of their merchandise. Bottom line she wanted to get it over with & I didn't want an argument so I went ahead & went in with her.
Here's where it starts. ACE hardware employees have zero tact and are like a pack of vultures when you walk into the store, not to mention give you the feeling that you are drowning. On this particular day the store was somewhat busy so when we walked in the older man that basically tackled us focused his attention on my girlfriend and asked her what she needed, this was my chance to actually get away from these creepy people & go shopping "ALONE" for my own things, (or so I thought)! As soon as he saw I was going to break away from my girlfriend's company he immediately got this, "OH DARN what do I do now" look on his face! I immediately walked myself to the nuts & bolts dept. something they refer to as "The Nut Hut" & after talking to my girlfriend later she had explained to me that the man was very persistent as to where I was going, he actually stopped what he was doing until he got her undivided attention & persuaded her to tell him what & where I was going! WITHIN SECONDS of my arrival into the nuts & bolts dept I realized I had this man hovering over the back of my neck AARRGGHH! PLEASE dear sir will you kindly learn what healthy boundaries are and step back a foot or two!
Bottom line these people do not care about "helping you", they are obviously under the instruction of their employer to watch for shoplifters! This is blatantly obvious & I've spoke with friends & family that have experienced the same thing & they will no longer shop at ace anymore. To add insult to injury when we were finished getting escorted through the store, we made our purchase and notice a bargain bin adjacent to the cash registers, we simply walked to the bin for a moment and were poking around when we both looked at each other with a funny look on our faces. We glanced over our shoulder & lo & behold, the cashier had stepped out from behind the counter to get a better look at us & what we were doing & he just stood there with a blank creepy look on his face.
These people really need to do something about their manners & tact when dealing with the public! They absolutely make you feel like a thief when you are in their store & I have never in 50 years had someone make me feel like this, EVER! My girl & I vowed on this day we would never shop at ace hardware again. I don't see how a business like this is still in business - WOW! I will do everything in my power to dissuade everyone I know from shopping at this store, period.

Today, I stopped by Sneeds Ace Hardware in Oxford, Ms, somewhere I rarely stop, but I was in need of a hacksaw for my husband. I didn't pay attention to the time but I saw that the store closed at 6. I pulled on the door and it was unlocked so I went in (being mindful that there were customers in the outside and inside). As I entered the store I noticed the lights were off but there were people inside. I went to get the saw. As I was looking in the dark, I heard a man talking with the cashier but I didn't pay attention until she said "I don't know where she went, all I know is she's wearing a white shirt". By this time I'm heading to the register and the manager I'm assuming says "we are closed, it's 6" and I said "yea but the door was unlocked" and he said "don't you see the lights off" (as if I was stupid or something) and I replied "yes but no one stopped me as I was coming in" and he just looked at me with a very ugly look.
I thought the way he treated me was no way a person, especially the manager should treat any customer. The tone of his voice was not pleasant at all, almost as if he was hollering at me. I never shop at this store and I never will! I'm really considering returning the product I purchased because why would I want my money going into a place that has workers that treat their customers this way! And by the way when I got into my car, it was only 6:03! Wow I really made them close late!! My receipt says I was rung up at 6:01. And the cashier was rude too!

CRYSTALLIZED useless product; returned to store and was treated with foul attitude. Purchase price was returned (Ace brand). I then purchased 3M product (Epoxy, super strength) for plastics. Mixed product as directed; says it hardens in four to 5 hours. Mixture never hardened after 3 days (gooey mess). Returned that product and was treated with rudeness but money was not cheerfully refunded. Bad customer service and I presume old outdated useless product. I have never experienced these problems. I then purchased "GORILLA BRAND".
I am in the process of removing failed products from item being repaired not easy and very time consuming. I pray this product will preform as stated. Evidently they don't rotate stock. I believe consumer should get what he pays for with courteous and friendly service. I am very unhappy and yes a bit angry. it seems this reaction to returns is encouraged and this store's policy. Screw Ace Hardware. I deserve an apology and some "perk" for my troubles, PERIOD.

Went into the Hernando Ace Hardware to return a fiberglass broom handle that has broken in the same place on 2 of the same handles. The first time the owner was just fairly rude and started with "I didn't buy it at his store," but gave me another handle. I've used it 4 times to sweep my porch and it broke in the same place again. Today I went to return it, and while explaining that I was using it in a normal fashion, the owner tell me to "shut my yap." Nice! At this point I asked him who the heck he thought he was talking to and the name calling started. I told him to just give me the old one back and walked out, with him screaming obscenities at me all the way to my car.
I've never had to return anything before this and have done business there for 9 years, though the owner has always had a condescending attitude. That's the last red cent any Ace Hardware will ever see from me again.

Today, Saturday, January 4th at 1:44 pm, I stopped at the Atlantic Beach, NC Ace Hardware store to purchase an entry lock set and to have it re-keyed on premises. I have had this same service before, about a year prior. An employee in his early forties informed me that re-keying would be performed late the following afternoon. This was unacceptable and the employee blatantly refused to work with me and indicated that he could care less if I got service or not. I went six miles out of my way to a Lowe's Home Improvement store to purchase the entry lock and when I asked for keying service, I was informed that it would be done while I waited and at no charge. I told two people in the checkout line about the poor service by Ace Hardware. I will continue to tell my friends. ACE IS THE PLACE WITH THE HELPFUL HARDWARE MAN??? I think NOT!!!

I will never buy anything again at Ace Hardware. I never bought anything that was that expensive at Ace so I never signed up for their rewards program, but I did give them a good amount of business. I decided to buy a grill from them which cost me over $1500.00. At that point I did sign up for their rewards. Their website was very confusing but I did sign up. I get an e-mail from them that I would be receiving a $25.00 reward within two weeks. After a month, I contacted them through e-mail to find out the status. Now they tell me it will take 4 to 6 weeks. Why did they e-mail me and say 1-2 weeks?
Every time I contacted them, they would resubmit it and tell me another 4 to 6 weeks. It's not the amount of money but the principle. I sent a letter to the President and CEO, John Venhuizen about not just my frustration but the problems they need to correct. Never heard back from him. So as far as I'm concerned John Venhuizen and Ace Hardware could care less about customer service. There's an old saying, if you are happy with a product or service, you'll tell one or two people. If you are unhappy with a product or service, you'll tell as many people as you can. And that's just what I'm doing!!

I ordered an 11" replacement lawn mower wheel. The listing stated that the part was in stock and delivery to the local store would be in 3-10 business days. I received no communication until the eleventh business day. That day, I received an email stating simply that my order could not be completed. There was no other information such as when or if I could get my order completed. So, essentially, the message to me was "we just wasted a week and a half of your time and we really don't care." This is poor customer service, needless to say, and it is highly unlikely that I will ever use their service again for anything. My only consolation is that they didn't charge me for the item and thus subjecting me to a likely tedious process for being refunded.

On July 4th, 2013, I went to Webber Ace Hardware in Dover Foxcroft, Maine on the second morning of a six day sale. Four of the five sale items I drove the 30 miles to the store in search of were not in stock. No rain-check, no apology. When you run out of items early in a sale, it is at the very least poor management. When it seems to happen every time there is a sale it becomes suspicious, as in bait-and-switch. The salesperson just turned his back and walked away when it became obvious they did not have the items I wanted in stock, and I was not going to buy a similar more expensive item that was not on sale. This happens virtually every time Ace puts out a sales flyer. I will never enter this store again, and my Ace Rewards Cards went into the trash. Live and learn.

I purchased 4 electric posts today in Ace Hardware in Sedona. The price on their cage was $1.99 each. I paid without noticing that they charged $2.99 for each one. I contacted the manager who checked again and found that the price in the item next to this one had the "correct numbers" and the price was that $2.99. The final answer was that I lost my money.
I think I don't have to be checking all barcode numbers every time I'm purchasing. I suppose businesses are honest and if they make a mistake, they assume the consequences. These guys are not serious. I lost 4 bucks, but they are losing more for doing business the wrong way. If you buy from Ace, take your time and check everything because they are going to steal your money.

On 12/4/12, I went to Trevarrow Ace Hardware store located at 97 West Long Lake Road, Troy, MI 48098 and bought a $3.99 sample of Ace paint to cover a few nail holes in my living room wall. A few days later, I opened it and used it but it was not the right color. On 12/13/12, I went back to the store to exchange for the correct color or a color closer to match the wall. The cocky salesperson was talking to another employee. I approached them and asked if I could make an exchange. The cocky salesperson asked me if I opened it and used it. I answered yes. Well, both employees were laughing and the other one walked away. The cocky employee said that I couldn't exchange it because that's what samples are for - he could not resell it because it was open and the store loses money.
I said, "I didn't buy the wrong color on purpose. How can I test the color on the wall without opening it?" As I was leaving the store, I asked to speak to a manager and the cocky one said he's right there. Well, the manager was the other employee that initially walked away laughing. My reply was, "The manager heard my whole story and he walked away earlier so I know he won't help me." The manager never said a word and pretended like he didn't even know what was going on. As I was leaving, I told them they had the worst customer service. So for $3.99, was it worth for them to have an unsatisfied customer and better yet, lose a customer for future sales? I would never go back there again. I really hope someone in the corporate headquarters reads this. But from reading other reviews, it doesn't seem like much is being done to satisfy their customers. No big deal. There's always Home Depot, which I love!

Eventually, after posting on many complaint sites, I did finally receive the rebate.
Original Review: Nov. 13, 2012
I did everything perfectly, as I am no stranger to doing rebates. The reward card was scanned and the number printed on the receipt, as did the sku, short description and price. I removed all the UPCs from the box, just in case, and scanned everything for my records. Then I decided to do it online, since it said that if I had the reward number on the receipt, I could submit online. I did. Weeks later, I received a card saying the rebate was not being honored because the ACE SKU was not found. It was right on my copy of the receipt, so surely their copy must have it also! Since I had submitted the rebate at the beginning of the offer, I resubmitted by mail, following very closely the guidelines for resubmitting. I sent in all the original hard copies by certified mail. The original rejection card said it had to be returned by Oct. 13, 2012. It was delivered at 9:07 on Oct. 5, 2012. As yet, I haven't received my rebate nor is their rebate portion of the website working at present. The part for buying stuff is working though. So, if that $30 rebate doesn't show up, I'm never buying another thing from ACE. There are too many other stores from which to choose to waste time on these guys.

I bought 3 large flashlights for the impending storm. I drove the one mile to our home and showed them to my husband who is recovering from a severe stroke. He pointed out what I should have realized; they are far too heavy for him to use unassisted. I drove back immediately, explained this, and asked if I could have a store credit for at least one of them in order to purchase smaller, lighter flashlights. I was told all sales for storm related products are final and final means final - and not very nicely, either. I was not requesting a refund! Considering that the store had 2 lines of about a dozen people each and a practically empty aisle of flashlights, I think they could have accommodated my request for a credit and not been out a penny. I will not be going back again.

Be careful on what you purchase at Ace Hardware! Yesterday, I bought some items from the Hebron, KY store that were not as universal as the packaging claimed. Today I attempted to return the unwanted items to another location close to where I work since I could run there on my lunch break. Although I had purchased the items a little over 24 hours ago and presented a receipt, the Newport, KY location refused to accept my return because "each store is individually owned and operated" and therefore I have to drive 20 miles out of my way to make the return.
Funny that ridiculous return policy appears nowhere on the receipt and it's not even on the company's website. I'm so livid, I will return every single item I purchased yesterday (not just the unwanted items) regardless of whether or not I need them. In fact, if I have anything in my home from that retailer that is under 30 days, I'm returning everything and if they refuse me again, I will simply dispute it off my credit card. I will never buy anything from this retailer ever again.

Let me start by saying my name is Cynthia a single mother, homeowner that purchased a lawn motor from Ace hardware located at Atlantic Boulevard Jacksonville, Florida 32225. On April 27 2008 I purchased a Poulan Pro Self-propelled 22" Deck FWD Ace# 187248. I had a coupon out of the Mint for $20.00, my final cost was $246.43. The stores return policy is posted above the doorway when you come in. I do not remember the entire posting but the parts that pertain to my purchase were as follows: all sales over $250.00 will take 10 to 14 days for the check to be mailed from Corporate, You must have sales slip or only a in store credit will be given, All sales after 30 day are final, and only the manufactured warranty will apply.
I used my lawn mother for the first time on Sunday May 4, 2008. I first added the oil and filled up the gas task. When I tried to start the motor the pulley was not pulling out so I play with it a while until it finally released and I was able to start it. Once cutting the yard at one point I had to move the garbage can and let go, turned to move the can and had to chase the lawn motor it did not disengage it keep going ( I made the commit to myself that this is not put together correctly). I finished cutting the grass and now the motor would not shut off.
I called a friend, went to a neighbors but he was not at home so I called the store, and spoke with Doug the store manager. I explained to him that I just purchased this lawn motor using it for the first time and explained my problems, he told me to pull on the cord but I still could not get the lawn motor to stop running. I called the store back spoke with Doug again told him I could not get it to shut off and that it would have to run until it ran out of gas. I told him I would bring it back to him for him to change it out as it was put together wrong.
Doug got upset and raised his voice telling me, I could not bring that back to him and that I would have to go under the warranty exchange policy! I informed him that I purchased this 5 days ago and that I was not about to take a lawn motor in for repair after 5 days and there store policy states in store warrant for the first 30 days. I said I tell you what I will just bring it back and get my money back. Doug says fine. I ask him if he is working tomorrow because I have no ideal when this will stop running and then it will be hot. Doug stated he would be working on Monday, said will see you after I get of work tomorrow.
The following day I worked a little late called the store once home to find out what time they closed and to let Doug know I was on my way. But the young lady that answered informed me that he had not come in today, but if I was the lady with the lawn motor she knows all about it. Once arriving to the store the young man inside came out to the door and got the motor. I went to the counter with my paper work and waited the man came back empty handed asking me for the number. I asked why and where was the replacement, he then says we are not replacing you motor, he stated "Doug told him to put the motor in the back get my name and number and he would call me in a day or so."
I told him that is now what Doug and I discussed and if he it not going to replace it then I want my money back. He stated that he was not authorized to refund any money; I informed him he needed to call Doug so he could authorize a refund. He calls Doug and talks, hangs up and tells me that Doug said he is not giving me back my money and he will not replace the motor. I then told him he needed to call Doug back because I was not leaving without my refund. He walked away so I told the girl behind the counter the same thing.
They called Doug back and hands me the phone he immediately starts raising his voice telling me I am talking time away from his family and how dare I interrupt his personal time with his family. Well the words started flying I told him would be home with mine if I was not sold a motor that did not work properly and then they do not want to honor there own store policy posted on the wall. This man starts telling me, that it's my problem if I did not read the owners manual to the motor before I brought it. I thought that was crazy and told him to give me my money and he will never have to worry about me stepping foot in his store again he refused and stated I needed to leave his store before he calls the police and I inform him to go ahead call them because he was in the wrong.
After Doug hung up on me he called right back and got the young woman at the counter and instructed he to call the non-emergency number for the policy and tell them I refused to leave the store. I apologized to the young ladies at the counter, and they stated they understood and that I had not done anything wrong and we continued to talk until the police came. The policy stated even though I was within the stores policy posted to the walk and why they would not give me back my money they did not know. While talking with the police they rolled the motor back out from the back and the young man stated it works now, but it didn't. When he sergeant helped lift it into the car the cable popped out and the handle fell off, and the officer made the comment they really did a good job at fixing this.
I have loss gas in both my truck and the lawn motor I have never been so humiliated in all my years. In a store with policy posted that they do not go by. I think they should be fined the steepest fine the law allows. I do not think that any store selling to the public should be allowed to treat anyone in the manner. They made me feel as if I had done something wrong when the only thing I did wrong was walk into the store and spend $246.50 on a lawn motor that I thought worked but did not work propertly.

I bought a kerosene heater (heatsun) for $139.00 from Ace Hardware. Within the 30 day the knob stuck on. And it was stuck on high. So I tried to return the heater. I told Kevin that it was not safe. He refuses to give me my money back or a replacement. I don't even want a replacement, because it is unsafe. He said that he was sending it back to the manufacturer. And that I had to wait to hear from them. He said that he does not refund money. I said where is the sign that says no refunds or replacements. He said I don't have to have one. He was very rude and sarcastic. I will never shop there again.

I purchased 3 portable DVD players from Ace Hardware of Satellite Beach, FL on 11/25/2005. These DVD players were advertised in the November 25 ACE Hardware Newspaper Ad as door buster specials. When I purchased the DVD players I asked the cashier if they could be returned and she pointed to the sign on the cash register that said that you have 30 days with a receipt to return items. The return policy is posted on the back of each cash register.
On December 4, I tried to return one of the DVD players. The manager was not at the store so the cashier called him at home. He told the cashier that he would not take it back. I got on the phone and explained to him that he has a POSTED 30 day return policy and I had the receipt. He told me that they were doorbuster items and he didnt want to take them back because he doesnt normally carry those items. He was very surly and difficult. I then contacted another ACE Hardware in the area. They said they would take it back if I had purchased it at that store. However, since they are individually owned they cannot take a return from another store. They provided me with the number for ACE Corporate.
December 5 I called ACE Corporate customer service and spoke to Audra. I told her that not only do I want to return the one DVD player, I want to return all since it is clear that if anything happens with these players I will never get any customer service from this Ace Store. She called the store owner (Jeremy Norcross) and tried to work it out with him. He still refuses to take back the items. ACE Corporate says there is nothing more they can do.

My elderly parents are retired and live in Melborne Florida. They had some friends over for a dinner party the other night, and the disposal and the drain stopped-up. My dad bought a popular drain cleaner, which did nothing to fix the problem. He then went to Ace, and asked the sales person if he could recommend something stronger. He told the sales person what the problem was, and the sales person recommended a particular commercial strength drain cleaner that he felt would do the job.
The problem was, the drain cleaner was 1.not to be used in a disposal, and 2. was not to be used in a stainless steel sink. My parents are fairly sure these warnings must be on the bottle, but because of their age (my Dad is 80) and failing eyesight (My Mom has cataracts in both eyes) they relied on what the sales person told them. Needless to say, they now have to replace both their sink and the garbage disposal.
My question: does the store have any liability? It seems to me that a store that deals with people in Florida must surely have experience with elderly shoppers in need on assistance. From a legal point of view, do they have a leg to stand on? What, if anything should they do? It's not that they can't afford to repace the sink and the disposal, but I feel they should not have to.
