I've been an Ace Hardware customer for over 50 years. I signed up for the Ace Hardware rewards and I used to get coupons $5 off $20 or more. Now they've raised it to $5 off on $30 or more. And their prices have gone way up so who's ever running their marketing department should take a lesson from some of the other companies like Home Depot.

Since I’ve been a young man in my teens and now being 69 years old, the local Ace Hardware in River Edge, New Jersey was my go to store for many things I couldn’t find in a large stores like Home Depot and Lowe’s. This past week about three days before the storm that we had here I had been in the store and I saw a sign on the door that the ice melt product would not arrive until 12 noon that day so I went down the street to a Duncan’s and got breakfast and brought it back and sat in the car outside the store. As I sat in, ate my breakfast I watched many people come up, look at the sign and walk away and drive off, but I chose to sit in the car for an hour and a half and wait and see if I could pick up a couple bags and not too many because I know the storm was coming and people needed it as well as I did.
A little after 12 noon I went inside and I did some shopping. Bought a couple things that I needed and stood around with two or three other fellows that were also waiting for the salt to become delivered. We even talked to a person who was working in the paint department and he spoke to us and said, "Well we’re not sure if it’s gonna come in exactly at 12 or it could be delayed or can come early" and we just figured, "We know. It’s OK. We’ll hang around. We’re waiting for a while and see if it comes in." Wow while I was shopping I walked past the fellow with the counter in the paint department and I heard of person ask if he could buy a couple bags of the salt and he started to print him up a receipt and told him to go to the front cashier. Now we had been there at least 20 minutes before this person and we spoke to this employee so then I asked, and he accommodated me by letting me put an order in at his counter that I would have to pay at the front register.
While we was walking around the store and doing shopping, I could hear another fellow employee on a hand radio talking to people in the back of the store that were using a forklift and I heard them talking about getting someone salt or ice melt and that was at least 15 minutes before I walked up and asked about it and it’s surprising because it was like they were hiding it from us and it left me to feel that the situation was suspicious and inappropriate so I’m leaving this post.

I will never shop another Ace because of the one located in Nashville NC. The policies not allowing items to returned because they are “seasonal”. I was never told that when I bought them nor is it anywhere on the receipt.

I went into the store and purchased a pack out from Milwaukee. It was supposed to be there Thursday. I called and they said it'd be 5:00 so I drove into town. I get there and the manager on duty was named Nicole. She was very rude so I end up getting my money back and going somewhere else. I've been shopping there for 30 years and I will never go back. Closing my account.

We had 2 local hardware stores. They were true hardware stores with not only hardware but employees who were knowable. Ace took them over. Replaced most employees with ignorant and cheap kids. I try to avoid them. Today I wanted 2 simple items for a project with my grandchildren. Apparently the only person in the store was a young lady on the cash register. She had a hand computer that was suppose to tell her where things were. I suspect she was not literate since she and her little computer sent me on several dead-end searches. Not much more to say since I left without buying anything. Strongly NOT recommended. Goodbye Ace. Hello Lowe's.

I will never go to Strasburg Road, West Chester Ace Hardware- she is so rude. They have marked the price wrong on the shelf and charging me higher price and refuse to accept Ace Hardware reward. It’s your job to keep price marked correctly. Then don’t advertise your coupon/rewards to your customers or reward members. On top, she was rude — I believe she is the owner. Tall older woman with glasses and shoulder-length hair. I will give her name if I had, I will never go back, I rather give business to Lowe’s or Home Depot.

This review is very different from 5 years ago. Went for a simple key today. Then looked at some 8 dollar special keys. Decided on just a cheap key. Proceeded to check out, reg key rang up 6.57 with tax. I was like, why didn't the employee just tell me, hey this one is almost 7.00, you might wanna get the special key for 8.00. Anyway, this time I won't return to my Neighbor store. Train your employees.

Nothing went right. Ordered a Stihl saw blade online for pickup at Goffstown, NH store. Item was listed in stock. Email notified me it was ready for pickup. Went to get and was told it was not in stock but they would order it and I could pick it up at the store in 2 days (most likely). The associate told me they wanted to call me or email me that they did not have it but the order did not have either my phone or email. I had to give both to make the purchase online. I told him to go ahead and cancel the order and I would get it at another store. He said okay. Never got a notification of cancellation and my credit card was charged pending. Called customer service and they called the store and were told I took the item with me. WRONG.
Told him I could not have because it was not there to take. Several store personnel do not know what is going on. Customer service have treated this as a return and I SHOULD see my account credited within 48 hours. This was not a return and I should not have been charged. The transaction should have been canceled and I never should have driven to the store. Never again.

I went to the Ace Hardware in Harvard IL, and bought a Milwaukee Red Lithium battery.... It worked for 13 minutes and overheated and died.... I took it back the next day and the old codger that owns that Ace said he "ain't takin in back"... It had a little dust on it from grinding paint.... I called Milwaukee Tools and they said it was manufactured in the 4th week of 2023...so it was sitting on the shelf apparently for a long time....and now it's too old for the warranty as well... DO NOT GO TO ACE IN HARVARD IL... Their inventory (like the owner) is old and stale....

2 months of back and forth regarding a weedwacker battery they "lost" during repairs, just for the owner to flop and say they never saw a battery despite workers saying they saw it before it vanished and the fact even the receipt denoted the issue was starting and stopping suddenly, something you couldn't show without a battery. Now I'm Down 100 bucks for a new battery (wasn't even asking full compensation since it was a few years old) since they didn't want to take financial responsibility and had to fix it myself. On top of being woefully unprofessional, throwing away my request (something I found out from another worker) never called first during this ordeal, but corporate told me they can't do a thing, making me question the point of having a corporate office to begin with. I hate writing these reviews, especially about a brand I've used since I was a kid but after this you won't find me dead in an Ace store.

I first purchased a Weber grill. The temperature wasn't working. I called the store and spoke with the mgr. He said they would order the part. I called a week later and he said they still hadn't received and wasn't sure when it would be there. I told him that I have patiently waited long enough and either replace the gauge or come pick up the grill. He found one in the store and had someone replace it. Before that he asked if I wanted to pick it up at the store. Seriously.... I said no of course. I paid to have the grill delivered. This was around July 4th...
Around the middle of July, I needed a new lawnmower. I wanted a Toro. I said I would give them another chance. BAD decision. Used the mower 3 times and it started leaking oil. Once again, I called the Not helpful mgr. who said they weren't licensed to work on Toro's (ALTHOUGH THEY SELL THEM) and I would have to take somewhere else. I don't have a pickup truck, so he said he would send Nick out to take a look. He basically said the same thing. Now I have to borrower my friend's pick up to take to a place for a brand-new mower that is barely 1 month old. I would tell anyone. Go to Home Depot or Lowes. Save yourself some aggravation. At least this store, they don't care about customers!!!

I bought a toilet flapper about $16 from a downtown Orlando Ace Hardware 2 days ago for a rental house that I own. When I returned to the rental house, I saw the that large 3 inch flapper was not going to work. When I returned it to my Oviedo Ace, I was met with... "oh, bought it at another Ace store uh...." The clerk asked me if I was buying anything else.. I said yes, bird seed.. "Well you need to get it and we issue credit for the flapper." In spite of her loud "Hello HONEYS" as you walk into the store... were now replaced by suspicions, like I was trying to cheat them..."... It made me hate going there... probably see my mug-shot on their wall now.... In some ways, I guess you can't blame them for this as so is much stolen from stores these days.... sad.

Well, the name says it all... Anyone named 'Ace' and you get what you deserve! The screws are #12 1-3/4" wood screws...that I was driving into MAPLE...with pilot holes drilled! That wouldn't be so bad, except that it was in the action rail of a 1965 Fender Rhodes stage piano! One of 80 made! I can't get those broken shanks out! I had to re-drill twice as many holes for the smaller US-MADE wood screws that I already had. I can't imagine these being used on ANYTHING! WELL...maybe on the posterior of the person that ordered these from the local "Ace" importer... Nice job guys! Good luck fishing those shanks out! Might I recommend the "ACE: Cantonese shank remover" and when all else fails (and it will) the "Ace: Cantonese shank remover-remover"! Or just leave them there as a warning to the next guy, who enjoys sitting as much as you. Do better! And when that fails, retire.

I purchased a Craftsman Trimmer/Edger during their Buy One, Get Two Tools promotion. I was excited to get a free circular saw and jigsaw. After a few days, the jigsaw shipped and the circular saw was cancelled from my order. After inquiring with customer service they told me it was out of stock and was cancelled as it was "while supply lasts". I asked if I could get a different tool and was no since the offer expired. I was not given compensate at all (as of writing this). I would NOT have purchased the trimmer/edger if I knew I was not gonna get the 2 free tools. First time shopping online with Ace and sadly it will be my last time, there are too many other better stores with better service.

I cannot believe how many Ace Hardware ads I have been been repeated to me, that I feel like I have been psychologically been trained to memorize their sales jingle. It should be unlawful to be able to market this way, and will in turn never, ever shop at any of their stores. They should be ashamed of their efforts to sell grills to people who can barely afford the food to cook. I absolutely hate this brand, and think they should be ashamed of their efforts. It’s disgusting.

I have shopped at Ace for a long time but I will never shop there again as I have had so many problems with Rewards. They send stuff in the mail. I get emails and when I use my app the offers are no longer available. Their rewards problem is very deceiving and I have been on the phone repeatedly with customer support and furthermore I have gone to stores and they have told me that the information does not match what they have. I'm sure if you are part of Ace Rewards program you've had problems just like mine. I have had enough of the nonsense and I am not shopping at Ace Hardware anymore and I urge you to do the same and maybe they'll get the clue and change their program to stop being so problematic and deceptive.

These people are their own worst enemies! I've never seen it so bad for any company that is in business this long. The entire experience of dealing with ACE Hardware will have you gouging your brain out. I cannot fully express here how terrible it is here. Ordering was fine, but everything after this was a circus! The end result is, I was delivered product with a smile that was severely damaged in shipping and 20% of the product was lost (Promix BX Potting Soil 3.8 cu ft. Bale - 60 lbs).
It was left for me to deal with for 2 days. Trying to chat is an exercise in futility. I tried to delete my account with chat, it says it can and then fails. When it transfers, the BOT leaves the chat before you are connecting to anyone and it locks up in this transferring state indefinitely with no way to exit, close the chat or initiate new contact. I finally reach a Chat agent that says I have to delete it myself and provides a link, but the form it shows is cryptic and poorly created, with no options for the blank confirmation box at the bottom. It says to confirm the request and provides a blank box with no suggestions. Does it want Yes? You finally get a suggestion if you highlight the box before you type something. If you type, it goes away. It's looking for a huge exact phrase, something like "I want to confirm the deletion of my account". Who does this? What's wrong with YES? Why not provide the phrase before so you don't have to wonder?
You can email customer service and they will do the deletion immediately, but the Chat people cannot, and doing it yourself initiates a ridiculous process of receiving codes and emails and is just over the top!! Earlier, I had previously called the store for help about 2 nearly identical Promix BX products that shows available on the website, but one of them has no delivery to store for pickup and delivery from store options. It can only be shipped at more than the cost of the item ($57). I already got free shipping and delivery on the other item, which was severely damaged. I never got a straight answer and still don't know why I can't order it or why it's on the website? Everything is an exercise in futility that will just make you crazy. No one here seems to care of acknowledge this, so problems just continue. This is about as bad as it gets!

I would love to support any of the Ace Hardware stores in my city; however, every time I try, I regret it. I place online orders only to have them cancelled with no explanation, no phone call, no offer of a substitution. Just an email saying my order is cancelled. This has happened now three times. If I use my rewards online and the order gets cancelled, my reward is gone. I've gone in because the website says the store has what I need, but when I get there, no one can find the thing I'm looking for. Generally they do not have what I need even though their whole ad campaign is "what you need in stock." Their prices are high, which would be ok if the products and service were good, but they just aren't. I'm never going to shop there again unless they are my ONLY option.

Aces are locally owned and customer service and inventory vary wildly. What is consistent is the ultra low quality of their products. In the last year I have bought a screwdriver set where the handles break with first use, a defective soaker hose, and a hose repair set with stripped screw beds. Just don't buy anything that can possible break because if it can it will.

About three years ago, maybe four my wife for my birthday got me a Weber grill from the local Ace Hardware. She went in there telling them we have natural gas. We don’t need the tank. They sold us an LP grill and gave us a natural gas hose ! stupidly it took me four years to finally figure out what was wrong with this grill. It took forever to warm up. I called Weber and they even said I quote Ace Hardware doesn’t know what they’re selling. I am so upset by this because you hire the most incompetent people to do a job who sells a customer with natural gas a LP grill and gives them the adapter hose for the grill. Unbelievable. Buyers Truly Beware. They are super stupid.
You have to double check. I’m stupid for not figuring it out for years later but we’ve only used it 5 to 6 times and always wondered why it took so long to warm up to cook on. You can’t trust anyone today you have to doublecheck everybody check everything trust no one that’s my new motto. Beware, don’t say I didn’t tell you. I’ve had other people tell me they had similar problems there.

I am writing to bring to your attention the reality of working at Ace Burlington, WI, where those who truly keep the business running are ignored while mediocrity is rewarded. During my time as a cashier, I was more than just someone who rang up transactions—I built relationships with customers, made them feel valued, and went beyond my job description daily. Whether it was helping a struggling customer, looking out for the remodel crew, or creating a welcoming atmosphere that brought people back, I made an impact. And yet, management chose to dismiss that value.
Now, with two locations severely understaffed, I’m curious—who will step up? Who will bring the heart and dedication that I, and others like me, brought every single day?
I am a Military Veteran, honored with an Army Achievement Medal, a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and a NATO Medal. I am a graduate of Alverno College, multilingual, and have years of customer service and teaching experience. I am also someone who genuinely cares about people and the community. But despite all that, Ace Burlington would rather overlook real value to focus on people who do not contribute where it matters most—inside the stores, connecting with the communities that keep Ace alive.
Ace prides itself on being "The Helpful Place," but when management fails to respect and retain its best employees, what kind of help is actually being provided? I hope corporate starts paying closer attention before more dedicated, hardworking employees walk out the door—taking the true magic of the store with them. Sincerely, Milanka

I ordered an entire gutter system to be delivered. The delivery arrived missing parts. When I tried to get the missing parts, I was told the $2.99 part could be shipped to me for a $15 charge (??). The other missing part could not be shipped but I could drive to pick it up myself at a different store. I contacted Customer Care 4 times. No one even tried to help. All I got was “sorry for the inconvenience”. I finally found out after numerous calls that the missing parts were out of stock so the store cancelled those items. No phone call, no message, no communication. The store should have called me immediately and told me what was happening. Instead I was left to guess. Customer care was useless. Very disappointed in this company.
