Aces are locally owned and customer service and inventory vary wildly. What is consistent is the ultra low quality of their products. In the last year I have bought a screwdriver set where the handles break with first use, a defective soaker hose, and a hose repair set with stripped screw beds. Just don't buy anything that can possible break because if it can it will.

About three years ago, maybe four my wife for my birthday got me a Weber grill from the local Ace Hardware. She went in there telling them we have natural gas. We don’t need the tank. They sold us an LP grill and gave us a natural gas hose ! stupidly it took me four years to finally figure out what was wrong with this grill. It took forever to warm up. I called Weber and they even said I quote Ace Hardware doesn’t know what they’re selling. I am so upset by this because you hire the most incompetent people to do a job who sells a customer with natural gas a LP grill and gives them the adapter hose for the grill. Unbelievable. Buyers Truly Beware. They are super stupid.

You have to double check. I’m stupid for not figuring it out for years later but we’ve only used it 5 to 6 times and always wondered why it took so long to warm up to cook on. You can’t trust anyone today you have to doublecheck everybody check everything trust no one that’s my new motto. Beware, don’t say I didn’t tell you. I’ve had other people tell me they had similar problems there.

I am writing to bring to your attention the reality of working at Ace Burlington, WI, where those who truly keep the business running are ignored while mediocrity is rewarded. During my time as a cashier, I was more than just someone who rang up transactions—I built relationships with customers, made them feel valued, and went beyond my job description daily. Whether it was helping a struggling customer, looking out for the remodel crew, or creating a welcoming atmosphere that brought people back, I made an impact. And yet, management chose to dismiss that value.

I was denied basic breaks due to staffing shortages while others received preferential treatment. I witnessed a culture that encouraged complacency and protected incompetence while disregarding those who actually did the work. When I advocated for myself, I was met with condescension rather than appreciation.

Now, with two locations severely understaffed, I’m curious—who will step up? Who will bring the heart and dedication that I, and others like me, brought every single day?

I am a Military Veteran, honored with an Army Achievement Medal, a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and a NATO Medal. I am a graduate of Alverno College, multilingual, and have years of customer service and teaching experience. I am also someone who genuinely cares about people and the community. But despite all that, Ace Burlington would rather overlook real value to focus on people who do not contribute where it matters most—inside the stores, connecting with the communities that keep Ace alive.

Ace prides itself on being "The Helpful Place," but when management fails to respect and retain its best employees, what kind of help is actually being provided? I hope corporate starts paying closer attention before more dedicated, hardworking employees walk out the door—taking the true magic of the store with them. Sincerely, Milanka

I ordered an entire gutter system to be delivered. The delivery arrived missing parts. When I tried to get the missing parts, I was told the $2.99 part could be shipped to me for a $15 charge (??). The other missing part could not be shipped but I could drive to pick it up myself at a different store. I contacted Customer Care 4 times. No one even tried to help. All I got was “sorry for the inconvenience”. I finally found out after numerous calls that the missing parts were out of stock so the store cancelled those items. No phone call, no message, no communication. The store should have called me immediately and told me what was happening. Instead I was left to guess. Customer care was useless. Very disappointed in this company.

Ace Hardware Show Low, AZ - I took a Ryobi chainsaw in to be repaired. I had the cover and brake in a bag. I also had a spare chain in a separate bag to be sharpened. 76 days later nothing had been done. Their claim was that there was a missing spring. I was told that no one had called because they did not have my phone number even though my name, business and phone number are in their database. They didn't even bother to sharpen the chain. The manager was very apologetic, but offered no resolution. The spring is readily available from Ryobi for $3.86 but they could not be bothered. Do not, under any circumstances take anything to them to be repaired - you will be disappointed.

THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE EVER. I placed my order over the phone for 6 privacy screens. They had 3 in stock and needed to order 3 from the manufacturer. This was October 19 and was told it would be in Friday October 24. Never got a call that it was in so I called to check if it was in, the guy I talked to was VERY rude and we will call you when it's in. I called back on October 25 because I never got a call. I was told it would be in Friday, I got the same rude guy telling me they would call me when it comes in. I called on October 30 to only be told they were never ordered. I was told they would order them now and get back to me with an ETA, that also never happened. I called back to be told they were to busy and never called the manufacturer. But they were quick to take my credit card payment. I ordered them from another company.

And again I lose the benefit of getting the reward discount because now my order no longer qualifies! I have had it with this. I blame ACE corporate for not properly managing their inventories and website, and border lining on false advertising about the use of Rewards coupons. For now on I will purchase from a competitor!

I ordered two items totaling $400 online with a delivery date of 3 days later. After 5 days I called the store who had no idea why it was cancelled, and referred me to a corporate number. I was then told the order was cancelled the day after it was received, but they could not explain why, and I was never sent any updates. It is frustrating to have to track down your own order and find out later it was never even sent. No communication, no updates, no explanation. I bought a Toro Mower a week ago (order #**) and, according to the information on their website, it was supposed to arrive at the local store on Friday. When I called the local store, they said they had no information and the truck with equipment sent from the warehouse was expected on Saturday. On Saturday, my order was not in the truck, and the local store said they knew nothing and couldn't help me. I called website customer service and was surprised to learn that they hadn't even attempted to ship my order and didn't know why this was happening.

After my request to connect me with a supervisor, I waited 15 minutes only to find out that there are no supervisors on Saturdays. I have never in my life encountered a more inadequate and unreliable interface than this company's. The site doesn't load, there are endless errors, and it took 30-40 minutes just to place any order. Customer support has no idea about orders and can't even provide current information, let alone address more serious issues. The existing model of relationships with independent stores is obviously unsustainable, and I wouldn't be surprised if they go bankrupt. At the very least, the huge number of people complaining about their work even here will be spared from problems with a corporation that doesn't value its customers.

Their lack of integrity forces you to received items that you did not order. This is felonious, they know, knew and with intentional deliberate acts, sent the wrong product having their own evidence that it was indeed the wrong product. My total was over one hundred dollars. Shipping and handling was forty-nine dollars and change. Now I have to get my bank involved, in their felonious behaviour of not having order and integrity.

Knowingly they did this, with no regard for the customer. Me. This is why we do things as unto the Lord, I am willing to bet my skills and talents to say they wouldn't send it to Jesus! We purchased a rv water pressure regulator from the Davis Ace Hardware in Springerville Arizona. We installed it, it did not work as intended. The water flow was very slow. We fussed with it for a while, with no change. It would not work as needed. My wife took it back for a refund a week later when she was heading into town. With the open package, and receipt in hand, she politely asked for a refund. She was exposed to having to go through several level of scrutiny, by different employees, at one point having to wait five to tens minutes while they chose to test it. An older gentleman came back and told her that it works. My wife said, it didn't work for us, and he said, "It works here."

My wife ask for a manager, and made contact with the owner. The owner said they could not return it, they had to make a storewide policy that if the item worked, they wouldn't accept returns. The reason she gave, was because people are returning air-conditioners, and heaters after using them for a couple of weeks. My wife said, she would not do something like that, and also replied, "So I just suppose to put this part in a drawer that doesn't work." The owner replied,"Oh I doubt that will happen."

My wife returned home very distraught, as she has never gone through such scrutiny for simply returning an item at an Ace Hardware store. We later put the regulator on, just to see it still not work. Our original was only replaced due to it had developed a leak, otherwise worked flawlessly. A few days later my wife called the manufacturer of the regulator and they were very accommodating. A Mr. ** was surprised to hear about issue, and advised to try again and let Davis Ace Hardware know, they will stand behind the product. If they had any issues that they could call him and he would verify it.

The following day I returned to Davis Ace Hardware and politely asked for a refund, stating my wife was in a few days ago and was not able to get a refund. I was referred to another employee and sharply told no we will not refund that item. I explained the part does not work as I have reinstalled it after they tested it and it still does not work. The employee stated "The owner has already made a ruling on this, and she had previously came down and talked to your wife about it." The employee said, they will not return it. I left without what I would call a fair resolution.

Essentially it as though both my wife and I were called liars. It is very unlikely at the store they were able to duplicate pressure and flow through the regulator that would be consistent under its intended use. My wife had asked them if they wanted to come over and test it with us, they were welcome. They said they could not do that, which I understand, but we had nothing to hide.

My assessment of the experience is due to the return policies being abused by others, we were victimized by their stereotyping. If we are doing something wrong, I get it, however we had a malfunction part, returned it with receipt a week later under the sixty days as required on the receipt. We did nothing wrong, but it was implied we had. To say the least it was a very disappointing experience.

I was rather shocked to see that an Ace Hardware store would not credit me for the remote that I purchased that would not do what I bought it to do.

He also told me I did not read the directions correctly; I told him the directions were inside the package I had to open it to get them. I told the man that I would never buy anything else from that store. He went on to tell me he could not resale it because it had been opened, he said he would lose money and must just throw it away, I told him that was what I was going to have to do. He said if I went to Best Buy and bought something and opened it, they would not take it back. I went on to tell him this was America and most retailers will allow you to return merchandise for a refund. That is just common-sense customer service. At the end of our disagreement regarding the return he told to get out of his store, The price with tax was $9.23 it is a sad day when a store owner would pretty much run a customer off and lose future business over $9.23. The guy was abrasive and confrontational. Store info: Elistway Ace Hardware Jacksonville, FL 32221

I've tried over a dozen times to place an order with Ace Hardware, yet due to their unbelievably high shipping costs, I never have and NEVER will! I'm the procurement manager for our corporation, make ALL purchasing decisions and choose our suppliers, in which case Ace will never get our high-end business vs. all other suppliers of our industrial needs that offer FREE SHIPPING or extremely low, reasonable shipping. Example - had 3 cans of lacquer thinner in their cart, then when I went to check out the price DOUBLED due to their thievingly, over the top, high shipping. Bought it way cheaper from another reputable supplier, for the EXACT SAME THINNER, with FREE SHIPPING. Their HUGE loss!

I thought they sold Sherwin Williams, they do not. It was Sunday & I did not know if any other places were open. The paint rep told me they could make any of SW colors, upon telling him what I wanted he told me they could not make that one. The $72 can I received was rusted as if it had been outside for 10 years. 3 days later I had everything ready to paint, when I opened the can I realized it was not completely closed (thankfully it didn’t spill in my car). The paint was a huge clump that could not be stirred. When I spent part of my day off work going back to the store to get a new can. Did the mgr or the same paint rep even say they were sorry for the inconvenience, no. I was offered a replacement but they were out of the upgraded bathroom paint I originally bought so I had to downgrade, again without as much as a verbal apology. Then I had to use 3 coats to get decent coverage with the low quality paint.

If I could give them zero stars I would. They didn't ship me a complete order and when I call to have them ship the rest of the order, after a long hold time, they told me I needed to contact FedEx first to get an incident number and then I could submit a claim. I just wanted my 3 extra mouse traps. Instead I spent $10 on shipping for a $4 mouse trap and a $5 rodent repellent fragrance. They have lost my business over 3 mouse traps they forgot to ship.

Cannot believe how lazy and inconsiderate the male cashier was today at the Colbert Ace Hardware. It was 15 minutes till closing when I arrived and attempted to find a plumbing item on my own before asking for help when I couldn't locate it. I went up to the register and asked the gentleman, an older hippie/biker type with bandana headband, if someone could help me... he immediately said no, he was stuck at the register. I asked if there was someone else who was able to assist me... I was completely dumbfounded, “You mean there is no one in this store who can help me find what I’m looking for? I’m the only customer in the store.” He said "No, Ms. ** and me are the only two here.”

Fortunately, there was a young man with a cute puppy who said he would help. Found out he was an employee who came in for something and volunteered to assist me off the clock. This young man went out of his way to help and not be paid when a paid employee wasn’t willing to do anything but stand behind the register. All this cashier had to do was lock his drawer and walk a few aisles down. He knew there were zero customers in the store. I heard him counting his drawer when I first went back to look. Why do people apply for customer service positions when they possess absolutely no customer service skills and have no desire to? Better yet, why isn’t the owner reading these reviews and correcting the issues?

Similar to most rewards programs, with Ace Hardware rewards, when you buy something, you get rewards 10 points per dollar spent. But:

    - To use those rewards, it can take upwards of a month to apply it to something you buy next time. You won't see this minute but important point on the customer end, but call their customer service and they'll reveal it.
    - To make it worse, let's say you were lucky and the reward is working. But the exclusions list for applying Ace rewards is almost all the products 'the average hardware store shopper' would 'normally' buy at a hardware store.

    - Most of the major hardware product brands (sold by Ace hardware as well) are excluded for rewards usage by default regardless.

So the probability is very low for real usage of Ace rewards for something a customer might actually want to buy, rather than getting tricked into using 'free money' from rewards to buy something customer didn't want to buy to begin with. It's a gimmick. It's a terrible copy of rewards programs used by competitor hardware stores.

And the cherry on top is Ace Hardware's telephone customer service. Wow. Unbelievably terrible. They will provide absolutely zero help regarding rewards. They will say something along the lines of "I don't know, whatever the website says is what we see also and there is nothing we can do'. Ready for some laughs about what's excluded from rewards at a 'hardware store'? Check out the Ace hardware rewards exclusions list that can be found on the link below: https://acehardware.bold360ps.com/Payments-Pricing/Exclusions/

My 2 cents is don't support unethically operated businesses like this. Take your valuable money to another business who doesn't trick you with half truths and unpractical jargon. I have rated 1 star out of 5 stars because a less than 1 star rating was not possible. If it was, I would give something as close to 0 stars as possible.

This was a simple order that was for 4 strands of red and 6 strands of green LED Christmas lights. The total order with shipping and tax came to $141.98. When I received the confirmation I laughed because the order looked like I had ordered 16 boxes which you will see with the attached picture, but of the the 10 total strands actually ordered, 6 were being shipped to me, as I wanted them to, but the other 4 were being shipped to my local store for pickup. I immediately emailed them back because I was shocked that someone in order entry would not have questioned this order and called or emailed me asking if this was my intention.

They informed me that they could not change the order and entered it according to customers selection. How I selected this was ridiculous, but it told me that Ace Hardware did NOT make it clear AT ALL when I was checking out like most stores do, but even more so for them not to contact me and question it just shows you the lack of customer care and service.

Five days after I placed the order my 4 boxes were ready for pickup at Ace Hardware and I was still waiting for the other 6 to get to my house. Another 5 days went by and when I didn't get the six that were shipped to my home I contacted Ace Hardware and inquired as to where my shipment was because I couldn't track the order. The response from Sonia D. still has me upset because she gave me the tracking number that I did not have, and actually told me to contact FedEx as to the delay. I couldn't believe it because first of all I don't have a FedEx account, second of all this isn't my property to be calling on. I have to say I was so upset that I replied to her and told her how shocked I was that she would actually be telling me to do her job.

I'm still shocked as I'm typing this because I'm wondering if this is Ace Hardware's policy and total lack of customer service or is this an employee who is just extremely lazy. The real kicker was right below her name is Ace Hardware's motto which is: "Helpful is our Business - Caring Is our Commitment." My order showed total lack of commitment or helpfulness and I will tell you about a year-and-a-half ago we stopped purchasing our water from our local Ace Hardware because of their laziness also. An ending note is also that after this order I ended up ordering another 16 boxes of lights from Menards which would have been another $307.78. If Ace Hardware was more caring or helpful I would have never looked elsewhere. Those $307 orders add up when you have dissatisfied customers.

The company refuses to pick up fake product and take responsibility for this practice. They pass the buck to the pick up location store, which cannot do anything either because it is an online problem. These tactics are to get the customer to just give up. After purchasing an $600+ product you think they would want to keep you as a customer. Horrible experience and on-line practice.

Buyer Beware! You cannot return purchases if they are USED. I purchased via Ace online a Corona ComfortGel 40.72" length weeder for about $16 plus tax, and had it delivered to a local Ace affiliated hardware store nearby, Tashmans on Santa Monica Blvd in West Hollywood, CA for my pickup. Unsure if this would be ideal, I left all the tags and wrap on and tried the tip out to weed. Didn't like it and returned it well within the 30 days. The clerk cheerfully gave me a credit but when the manager discovered she took back a return that was 'used' he was livid and I found myself facing off this manager who came at me as if I was going to relinquish my credit back. I was still in the store having keys made, etc.

First off, it literally had a little bit of dirt on the tip which I saw the manager easily rub off with his fingers. I had only tried it out once, maybe twice, to make sure I didn't want it. I had ended up purchasing an upgraded more expensive Corona weeder that cost $30 and that performed far superior than this long handled stick thing I had just returned. Secondly, I learned that returns can only be returned if unused. How ridiculous is that? It is at the discretion of the affiliated Ace store whether or not they accept your used return. My return was not abused or filthy and had all the tags still attached on it. All it has was a little bit of dry dirt on the tip. Literally a little bit. I do not intend to purchase anything further from Ace Hardware stores especially with this low level of customer service and satisfaction.

Approximately 2 hours after completing our online order we received an email from Ace CANCELLING the order. The reason was their local store didn’t have sufficient stock. We go back to their website to reorder the griddle from a different local Ace store, only to discover they never refunded our gift card when they canceled our order. Long story short, after 2 weeks of emailing and calling and being given countless excuses, we still had NOT received our $228.95 refund.

Since we had used a gift card and had no recourse with filing a dispute with our bank/credit card company, we ultimately felt we had no other choice but to file a complaint with BBB. Thankfully, within 2 days of filing the complaint, our problem was resolved, but it NEVER should’ve taken such extreme measures to get the refund we were RIGHTFULLY owed. We were shocked to see numerous complaints on BBB for the SAME issue. Several people fought Ace for MONTHS before being refunded!! So... BEWARE!! If you ever use an Ace gift card and have your order canceled, you may find yourself not refunded and fighting an uphill battle to get your funds back. We will NEVER shop @ Ace again.

Zero stars is too generous a rating for the disservice and disrespect I received from Ace Hardware's cavalcade or contemptible curs. As far as I'm concerned, the entire operation couldn't go bankrupt fast enough to suit me. I purchased an Ace component online that failed to live up to its product specifications due to poor workmanship and inferior materials. The product, manufactured by Ace, is marked with an Ace Satisfaction Guarantee. Apparently, the Ace satisfaction guarantee isn't worth the cardboard it's printed on.

I called Ace customer service. The Ace agent instructed me to place an order for a replacement product online, using my credit card, and have the replacement item shipped to my local Ace store. I followed the Ace representative's directions to the letter. The Ace agent also instructed me to take the defective cord to my local Ace store. He said as soon as the old cord is returned to the Ace Hardware store, he would credit my credit card for the amount I paid for the replacement item. Once again, I followed the Ace customer service person's specific instructions verbatim. Did I receive a refund? No. Instead, the Ace customer service person bamboozled me into thinking I would. I attempted to speak to a supervisor about this deception, but no Ace customer support agent would connect me to one.

Do yourself a favor, folks. Make your life a helluva lot easier by taking all your business to Ace's fine competitors. Unlike the belligerent, duplicitous nincompoops at Ace, these superior business entities treat a customer as a necessity, rather than an adversary. There's an old adage in business. If you don't take care of the customer, somebody else will. Bye-bye Ace. You're a disgrace.

Eventually, I reset the app and placed my order again, and it worked. Five hours had passed, and I never received an e-mail saying my order was ready. I had to call the store, and they confirmed that it was ready. They apologized for not e-mailing me, saying they were really busy. Fast forward about three weeks later: I finally get an e-mail from customer service regarding my problem with their site. There’s no excuse why it took three weeks to answer I’ve inquiry! As I checked the status online, it said “preparing to ship”. It said this for another week. I tried to inquire via E-Mail. The link did not work. I then called the customer care number. I spoke with Mike. He said the order had left the warehouse in Pennsylvania. It was at the Colorado service center. He thought this was in Colorado Springs. He told me I would have it in a couple of days.

Five days later I called again. This time I spoke with Dana. He could not verify where the order was, however promised to call me back with an update. Three hours later I received an E-Mail informing me my order had been cancelled. No reason why, just canceled. In addition, each time I called the “customer care line” I waited over three hours to speak with a representative. Didn’t have any choice due to the E-Mail link not working. Do not use this store for remodeling. The stores computer and the salesperson working the computer did not correctly allow for correct size of kitchen appliance and store manager refuses to correct this error. Very unprofessional and not consumer driven. It would be so simple for them to correct the error but as a result of their prompting and management this has been drawn out for over a year with no satisfactory response or resolution. The manager, Ron, was supposed to contact me via phone and has thus far failed to do so. On the whole, very unprofessional and not consumer driven. Though no fault of my own I am left with a disaster. Gone are the days when such a service company would stand by their product and employee/sales representative, correct their errors and work diligently to resolve such horrific remodeling results.

There is nothing worse than having an unfinished project with the store not correcting their own grave error. This has truly been a nightmare. A very sad nightmare. I wanted to support my community and got majorly burned with an unfinished project and a totally remodeled kitchen that cannot accommodate all the appliances. Any suggestions on how to have this store step up and correct their error?

Instead of this store learning from this major failing on their part, correcting their error and making sure that this never happens to another customer they will not correct their error on this sole project and finish my kitchen so all my appliances will fit IN the remodeled kitchen. Buyer beware!! This could happen to you! This company and store will not stand by the remodeling plans that they perform. If anyone has any further ideas on how to resolve this disaster of a matter I would greatly appreciate your input.

Not only did the rep not seem to understand I would be having the items delivered and not picked up, she couldn't even confirm that the items could be delivered. She said that would be up to the store and did I call them. Why would I do that if the Web site and confirmation email both said the items would be delivered by a specific date.

An extremely frustrating and time consumning call, where she also all but refused to let me speak to anyone else. A manager could call me later if I wanted. Why does Ace say it will deliver items when apparently that's not guaranteed? Shouldn't that clearly be stated on the Web site? I ordered a add on wood burner online with home delivery. The fact that they were going to deliver over a 500 pound item to my front door for $300 was a great selling point for me. After paying for my order and having an initial email sent that verified the order and said that the estimated delivery was on a Saturday two weeks out, we were happy. The email indicated that we would receive a second email that verified the delivery date. The Friday before the Saturday the item was to be delivered, I called Ace to find out an delivery date as we had not heard from the company. The Customer service agent was nice, but said we would hear from the delivery company themselves the next day for delivery.

The weekend came and went, I called Monday morning and the customer service agent put me on hold for 15 minutes. She came back on the line to tell me that the delivery would be today and we should be hearing from the delivery company soon. Monday came and went, and I called Ace CS Tuesday morning. I was put on hold for 20 minutes only to be told to call another number, which was the delivery company to set up delivery that it would be delivered. I then called the number ACE gave me and they told me to call the local branch, which I did.

The dispatcher at the delivery company said it was on a truck for our place today and that we should have our forklift ready when they get there. I let him know that this is a residential address, and that we do not have a forklift. He told me it would cost more to have a liftgate added to delivery for it to be taken off the semi. I told him that I ordered this from ACE and paid $300 to be delivered to my front door. He told me that ACE did not tell him that and he could not change it.

We ended up arranging with a facility that had a semi dock an hour away to drop it and we could get it from there. We paid additional people to pick this up. When calling the delivery company they said it was ACE's fault, when Calling ACE... well that's where the real struggle began. I ended up literally spending days on the phone, trying to get a resolution as we paid another 200 dollars out due to someone's mistake. I was hung up on by CS agents, placed on hold for 30-60 minutes at a time only to find out that there was no manager who wanted our was willing to talk.

CS agents are only trained to take orders, not how to resolve such an issue and all managers are always in a meeting. The last agent I spoke with offered me a $50 refund, I told her I am now out my time and $200 additional dollars to have a $2000.00 order delivered, that ACE was supposed to ensure was delivered to my front door as advertised. She finally resolved to half the credit of delivery of $150 and promised a managers call back. I waited the 7 days for the credit, shockingly it did not appear and neither did the Managers call ever happen. I called back and the CS agent put me on hold for 15 minutes, and then came back to tell me the refund was never processed. She promised it would be in 10 days. I have not seen the refund come through. I will never order from ACE again!

I recall when I purchased the trimmer how nice the associate was and how he reassured me that if there were ever any problems I should just return it and as long as it was still was under warranty it would be fixed free of charge.

As luck would have it the associate is still working at the same exact store and when I called to get information on next steps he told me to bring it in, he checked and it was still under warranty. I brought the trimmer in last Thursday and was called today to be told they were not going to fix it because they came to the conclusion that I didn't have a shield on the product when using which I told them was not the case.

Hmm... But was charged. Then I had to do a second order because they canceled the first order. Finally received it but was never refunded the amount from first order which by the way the store canceled. I’ve been emailing them showing them all the proof but nothing but run around so I’m taking further action!! Just stay away. Horrible business and they give you the run around and still I’m out 447.00.

On 03/09/19 we walked into the Ace Hardware Store on Chicago Road in Dolton, IL looking for a particular potting soil and a long stick to support a plant that was leaning. The cashier was hesitant but did attempt to assist us. An older guy came from the back with the worst attitude I've encountered in years! He never smiled and answered all questions very rudely. I found a long piece of wood that was approximately 9 feet high and 1/2 inch wide. I asked him if he could cut it for me (I only needed 7 feet)and his response with a very evil look on his face was "yeah for $5". I jokingly said "wow can I just use your saw" (thinking that would loosen him up and at least make him smile).

He said (very mean, LOUD and stern) "NO!!! MY INSURANCE COMPANY WILL NOT ALLOW THAT! I WILL NOT LET YOU USE MY SAW!!!" At this point I just turned around and walked out of the store. I will never patronize this store again. Even though this Dolton store is much closer to my home, I will continue going to the Homewood store where the staff is very helpful and friendly.

My just previous review is in fact honest and accurate. However, I since have talked with other customer service reps (especially Kathleen in Fla.) and have been treated very very courteously, friendly and professionally. The first rep just triggered something with his thoughtless remark and obvious less than empathic regard regarding good customer service. Happens to us all at some point I guess.

Ace Hardware online is a separate entity from the Ace stores. The Ace stores cannot do anything about any orders made online. The online site is useless when trying to help. "oops, sorry about that" and "hey, this isn't Amazon" is all you get. Made an order online and was told the order would be at the store today. Called the store and order did not show up. The order will not be at the store now until a week from today. This order was made being told when the delivery would be made and I would not have ordered had I known this. This made no difference to cust. service. "We're not Amazon" is all I got. I'm 300 miles from this store and the order pickup was made as my travels would accommodate this perfectly. Now, not so. I am SOOOO PO'ed about this. I would give zero stars if I could.

I took it back to Spanish Fork Ace hardware to get it fixed. They told me to bring it inside so I unloaded the snowblower and brought inside. The employee looked at it and said it would be $20 labor plus the price of the part. I told him that it was brand new and still under warranty so I will not pay a dime to have it fixed. The employee called his manager on the radio and told him what I said.

The manager replied on the radio that Ace doesn’t back the Toro products they sell. After hearing that I told the employee that I wanted my money back. He called the manager again and told him that I wanted my money back. The manager replied on the radio that I was not getting a refund and I need to take my problem up with Toro. I left and found Cutlers in Orem that repairs snowblower. I walked into Cutlers. They ask what was wrong and took a look at my snowblower. He looked at my receipt then typed in the serial number into the computer. Cutlers then told me it was covered under warranty and it would be fixed in a day. Save yourself from Ace Hardware and buy from Home Depot. They back the products that they sell at 100%.

I recently went to the Ace Hardware in Chiefland, Florida. I purchased a weedeater. Two weeks later I tried to start the weedeater with no luck. I had a terrible experience when I was there. They as much told me I was a liar about the parts on the weedeater. They traded me a new engine, and I kept my lower part of the unit as it was straight, not curved.

When I got home and went to use the unit I noticed that they kept the handle. I went back to Ace and when I went in, I tried to explain my problem. The woman at the desk looked at me and VERY sarcastically said "Oh, we know who you are." She said they did not keep my handle. The manager came up and the other woman told her again, in a sarcastic tone. "He is being helped okay." They did eventually bring me a handle. Gave it to me with nothing else said. I gave her the part info so she could just go down and pick it up as I was indisposed and set about cancelling the order. I called the store where it was to be picked up and was told it had already been keyed in and since corporate were different entities, they could no longer cancel the order.

Since it was the only item in stock the employee offered to put it back on the shelf so that it would be there when she arrived, I said, "Good, thank you." He gave me the number for corporate so I could cancel the order. I called corporate and told them what had happened and was put on hold. She came back and told me she had just talked to employee at the store, and he said it was in will-call and so she could not cancel the order. During this time my mom arrived home, with the part. When I told the woman on the phone, she said when she talked to the store they told her it is in will-call and so the order cannot be cancelled.

I called the store and talked to the employee, he said he told her that he keyed in the order and that is why he could not cancel it. He then went on to tell me that the stores and corporate were two separate entities, they use corporate as an advertising platform for independently owned stores. Once a payment and order are keyed in you have to talk to corporate because they control the funds at that point. No part in stock, can't cancel the order because it's in will-call, and yet here I sit less the money and maybe corporate will do something in a week or so. Ace Hardware Schofield WI. Mar/Apr 2018. I am normally very happy with customer service at Ace Hardware. I Have dealt with the paint mgr Barb ** in the past and found her very condescending, ignorant and rude and this time was no exception. I bought 4 gallons of paint but at the time they only had 3 base cans in stock so I had to wait a week for the next delivery. I had to run into town a second time to pick up the 4th can. I bring that up because their current TV commercials say they will deliver to you if there are any issues so you won't be inconvenienced. That did not happen and was not offered.

After I picked up the 4th can and I got it home, I could see, along with everyone in my family (15 people, it was Easter), that the dot on the new can (a coral color) did not match the dots on the other 3 cans (neon red). I called Ace in Schofield and spoke to Barb. Even in that initial conversation, she indicated that she thought that was impossible. They had done anything wrong but I should come back the next Monday. That was inconvenient for me so it wasn't until a week later that I went in. Barb was there with two other employees. I had taken in a can from the original 3 and the 4th can and showed them the difference. They looked at the dots (employees had dipped in the paint and put a dot on the top of the can) and saw the difference. At first there was much discussion because the labels showing the colors added were the same.

I said I think it is because it is a different batch. Barb said "I'm sure it's the same batch". Then she looked and it was a different batch. She said that shouldn't matter but I said I have been in decorating and batches do matter. Then she took the covers off the cans and said she could not see any difference. I have to admit, I couldn't either, but then it was wet paint and under fluorescent lights. Then she had one of the girls re-shake the can in question and start mixing a new can. After mixing we still couldn't see any difference but I did not want the can in question. Barb told me to paint with half a can and then mix another can and so forth. I said I didn't want to do that.

I had picked out a red and didn't want to risk painting with a coral. I did not want to paint a month or two from now and then see the difference and then wish I had stood my ground, instead of being bullied by Barb into accepting the can in question. She said I don't know what you want me to do... REALLY? I said just give me the new can (which's color dot seemed more on point). Nothing like making me inconvenienced and feeling like I was inconveniencing her. I will shop at Ace but never their paint dept again as long as she is there. And I will be spreading my experience around. She does not fit with the customer service ideals of the company. I would have said this to Ace but they didn't seem to have that option on their website.

Ace Hardware refuses to honor an extended warranty on a motorized chainsaw I purchased from their store. Without conducting an impartial investigation into the cause of the catastrophic failure of a brand new chainsaw I purchased at their store, Ace has concluded that nothing but operator error was the cause and refuses to explain how they reached such a conclusion despite the possibility of a manufacturing defect or material flaws. I believe Ace Hardware may be engaging in consumer fraud, and I am kindly requesting your office to review my case. The chainsaw I purchased from Ace is a “Stihl” brand, model MS251. I purchased this equipment for $359.00, not including tax. I initially wanted to purchase the smaller model, the M1 70; however, the salesperson talked me into purchasing the MS251 because it is a sturdier model.

Despite my reservations toward purchasing more expensive, the salesperson also talked me into purchasing an Ace extended warranty, since the chainsaw is an expensive piece of motorized equipment. I did not use the equipment for any work – I did not even fire it up once, not a chip of wood was cut. I attempted to start it up for the first time ever on January 28, 2018. The chainsaw would not start and after approximately eight (8) attempts to start it, it began smelling of burnt rubber and I discontinued my efforts and brought it into the Ace Hardware store in Auburn, Washington, located at 308 W. Main Street, Auburn WA 98001. I spoke to the Ace employee at the Stihl Service Desk, who looked at the chainsaw and informed me he thought I most likely “mishandled” the equipment and may have “burned out” the clutch.

He insisted that I kept engaging the clutch to the point of burn out, without considering the other possibilities of equipment defect or malfunction. Unlike my other Stihl equipment this unit took eight (8) attempts, of about 3-4 “pulls” of the cord, to start - and that was one of the first signs of trouble that could indicate a faulty unit. They did not want to consider that symptom as an indication of underlying problems - despite the fact that Stihl prides itself for quick and easy starts. He informed me that if it was a burned out clutch it would not be covered under the warranty because it would be deemed “operator error.” He would not entertain my explanation that the clutch lever or other mechanism could be defective when I showed him that the clutch lever was in the “disengage” or OFF position on the equipment when I started it, like I do my other Stihl saws I purchased from Ace.

He attempted to induce me into paying for repairs. I refused to pay for any repairs but acquiesced to paying a $50 “troubleshooting fee”, and insisted that I had not mishandled the chainsaw. I explained exactly what I did – which was merely to attempt to start the equipment with the clutch lever in OFF, exactly according to instructions provided by the manufacturer, and exactly as they demonstrated when I purchased the product, and exactly how I start my other Stihl chainsaws for years now. The operating sequence is identical to other Stihl chainsaws I've purchased from Ace and I told the employee that I followed the same process with the clutch lever in the OFF position.

The service desk representative then told me there were “other such incidents recently” where the Stihl chainsaw catastrophically failed from a burned out clutch. When I asked for details about those “other cases,” and what the outcome was, whether the warranty covered those similar incidents, he said he was not “made aware” of the outcome of those incidents and investigations. I left my chainsaw that day at the Ace store and told the employee I wanted him to contact the Stihl representative who was responsible for warranty determinations. I informed him that I wanted the warranty to cover a repair or I wanted Stihl or Ace Hardware to provide me with a replacement. I received a follow up call a few days later, from ** who stated that he knew the details of the other case and that the customers were blamed by Ace for starting the chainsaw the wrong way and Ace made the customer purchase another chainsaw.

My chainsaw is the same brand. I asked ** how they could make a positive determination that the manufacturer (Stihl) did not have faulty materials or mechanisms that could cause the clutch to stick in the “ON” position, regardless of the position of the lever that engages and disengages the clutch? He was not able to answer that question definitively, so he repeatedly reverted to “operator error,” which is a convenient escape from warranty responsibility. I not only have the manufacturer’s warranty, but the additional warranty Ace sold me as an “extended warranty.” Ace is now saying neither of two (2) warranties covers a brand new piece of equipment, which has never been used, against material flaws or manufacturing defects. They have concluded the catastrophic failure of my new chainsaw is a result of a single act of operator error, without providing any evidence, explanation, or rationale.

Operator error is not plausible in my case for two main reasons. 1- I've operated and I'm familiar with Stihl equipment for years and the German made equipment is very sturdily built of durable materials, barring an occasional defective part. 2- I have 39,831 hours of documented and verifiable technical experience in aircraft maintenance over the last 22 years working for a major airline- and I'm very familiar with motorized equipment. The only way a catastrophic failure of that degree can occur in a singular moment is due to design, material, or mechanical defects - and those possibilities cannot rationally be ruled out by Ace. No one at Ace has explained how they determined the failure cannot be from design, material, or mechanism defects.

The Service manager argued that even his garden equipment mechanic, who's been doing this work for 20+ years, thinks it is operator error that I burned out the clutch—but I felt obliged to refute that by expressing that I have over 39,000 hours of documented aircraft maintenance engineering experience, during which time I have operated highly sophisticated motorized and electronic equipment - and that his judgement cannot be competing with what I know in my field, with higher equipment. After discussing the matter for a third time, with **, he referred me to the Ace Hardware owner, Darren Jones, as the contact point for filing a complaint.

The only thing certain at this point is that the clutch burned out. Ace cannot know for certain why the clutch did not disengage, despite the fact that the clutch lever was in the “disengage” or OFF position, which is how I start all my chainsaws I've purchased from Ace since 2015. If the equipment that Ace sold me is so delicate that it fails before even using it then there is some type of manufacturing or design defect. Moreover, Ace is defrauding customers if they are selling such faulty equipment and extended warranties on such faulty equipment. Ace and Stihl would rather conveniently blame the customer for holding, starting, and handling equipment than honor either of two (2) warranties they induced me to purchase. It is not plausible that this chainsaw failure is due to operator error.

It is very possible that Ace and Stihl are refusing to honor the warranty of this line of equipment possibly to avoid making good on their promise to customers and not letting other customers know the results of other investigations and outcomes. I believe they are accusing and blaming the customer in order to avoid responsibility under consumer rights. I am asking for full repair or compensation for the chainsaw, that Ace and Stihl honor their warranty, as well as the extended warranty, which they induced me to purchase. I also am asking for a refund of my $50.00 troubleshooting service fee, which was what they charged me on January 28, 2018 to look at the chainsaw.

I head straight for the gardening aisles. A guy then asks me if I need anything (2). I tell him I'm just browsing the gardening section in anticipation of the upcoming growing season.

A couple aisles later, the cashier lady asks again if I need anything (3). I tell her, "I'm just learning the layout of the store, thanks. I really don't need anything specific." They're beginning to be a little pushy. On the other side of the store, after being asked times (4) and (5) if I need anything, I find the drill bit aisle. I'm super excited to find itty bitty ones in stock and make sure to mention that to the next person who talks to me (6). I go on to ask if they sell flex shafts, because by this point I've come up with an answer to their incessant pestering. I get a flat no and am just told about the Dremels, which I say I am reluctant to purchase because my current low rpm one is utter crap.

At various points while I'm in the drill bit aisle I get my phone out of my purse to look up a couple things about rpm requirements for flex shafts as well as a drill bit to wire gauge conversion chart. The most recent guy starts asking me weird questions, like if I go to the local college. I tell him I graduated a while back. After I've selected my drill bits, he offers to take them to the front counter to hold for me. I say, "No thanks, I'd like to hold on to them and continue browsing the other aisles."

Two more times I am asked if I need anything (7), (8) by even more employees before I'm fed up. This whole time I've been polite in denying them. I end up going back to select a spray head for my watering hose. I transfer $5 from my savings to my checking to cover the tax of my purchase. When I get to the register, the cashier girl is walking off to do something, and says as much. Really, after all the pestering? I needed help finally and was put on hold for a couple minutes. She finally checks me out and tells me about the rewards program. I'm polite and ask about a brochure to consider it in the future. This store does have plenty of things I would purchase in the near future.

Here's the kicker! As I get ready to leave the store, a police officer is entering. I didn't think anything of it and open the door for him, as you do in Texas for anyone. He stops me and asks to check my bag. I think he's joking and hand him my Ace bag with receipt and all. Then he asks to look in my Purse! As if I had stolen anything! He tells me he got a call about a suspicious young woman shopping at the store and if there's anything in my bag. I told him the only thing weird in there is an ** I recently got prescribed. He seems surprised, peeks in, finds nothing amiss, and apologizes for the intrusion.

I make sure to tell him that all of the employees had been harassing ME and making ME feel uncomfortable. I later called the store manager and said that I will never visit their location again after what happened. Calling the cops is a little extreme for someone who only wants to browse in peace. Also, feeling pressured to buy something because your employees are bored is equally awful.

I placed an order at Ace Hardware online ordering on December 22, 2017 that was to be shipped free to my local Ace Hardware store. I received a confirmation the same day that stated the item was in stock in their warehouse and would be delivered to the local Ace Hardware store for pickup within 3-8 business days. The confirmation e-mail stated that I would receive another e-mail when the item was delivered and ready for pickup. I received no additional correspondence from Ace. After giving them a few extra days because of the holidays, I called my local Ace Hardware store today to see if they had received my order. They had not.

The supervisor at the local Ace store called to check on the order and called me back right away. Ace's online ordering group in fact did not have my item in their warehouse and had cancelled my order without notifying me. I was told by the supervisor at my local store said that I was not the first customer to experience this result when they had placed an online order from Ace. He apologized repeatedly and hoped that I would not let this experience negatively affect my attitude about the local Ace Hardware stores.

This is the second time I have a complaint. My other son went in Ace (Monahans Texas) to buy some staples and he was told to leave and the friend that was with him was told also to leave because she was hanging around with the wrong people. Just because the manager (Robert) does not like me does not give him the right to treat all the other people that knows me from going in to buy what they need. That is prejudice and since Ace Corp. was notified if ace corp. cannot do their job why buy from them? I'm sending a complaint to the BBB and the attorney general office. I thought ace corp. had more respect for their customers.

And thought that by having it shipped to an Ace in town, the owner would make some money as well. After a week, I went by the store and they knew nothing about my order nor could they help me track it. Figured it would show up in the next couple of days so I left and when I didn’t hear anything I phoned Ace.com customer service and was assured that it would be there this Tuesday (the Tuesday before Christmas). On Wednesday right before I was getting ready to call again, I get an email from Ace with no explanation saying they were unable to fulfill my order! WTH!!! No wonder Amazon and the Big Box stores are kicking the little guy's butt. Not sure who the CEO of this company is, but somebody needs to buy these bozos out and teach them how to merchandise. I purchased a qt. size container of Ceramic Thin-set that was obviously used before and returned to the ACE Hardware Store. There was grout material on the outside of the can and you could see the can was previously open. This item cost only $9.99 but since I needed only a little, and this was the only can in the store, I decided to buy it and politely asked the cashier for a small discount, since the product was already opened, used and returned. She looked at me like I was crazy and charged me full price and wouldn't contact a manager because there were at least 3 customers behind me.

So out-loud I said to my wife, “This is why I hate shopping in ACE,” and made sure the other customers took notice. I also told the cashier, I would use what I needed and would return the item in two hours back to her for a full refund. She didn't even care and handed me my bag and receipt. Of course I won't return the item, but believe me if Lowe's or Home Depot has something I need I will never go back to ACE Hardware.

I just had the absolute worst customer service at the Bend OR Ace store. We are pretty regular shoppers and I went in with a return -- having no reservations. Apparently, according to ACE I had only bought one of the items and was trying to return two. They then took both items away after crediting me for one only. I never expected this. I had been surprised to find that only one was on the receipt (they printed at the store) but I had every intention of talking with my husband and said I would like to look for receipts at home. I was denied.

Not only was I denied and made to feel embarrassed as if I had done something wrong, Lance, the assistant manager was rude, unhelpful and hummed as he disregarded my concerns and when I requested the manager's name he said - she's right there, go talk to her and hummed again. I actually have gone out of my way to support Ace instead of Lowes or HD. I would have never had that trouble at Lowes, they have always given me the best customer service. From now on, that is where I will take my business as well as encourage my family and friends to do so as well. I don't try to shop at stores that are so rude, and in my opinion just stole something from me. Without a chance to look into something on my own, taking something away from me that I walked into the store with is wrong. The humming and the rude attitude were definitely not appreciated. Poor job Ace.

I got no follow-up information on shipping status, so after five days I called back, and they said the item wasn't in stock!!

The customer rep said she'd contact corporate, but it would take 3 - 5 days to even hear back from them!! I called again to cancel, and someone from corporate called me back to follow up. He said they were out of stock but hadn't informed me since they were looking for the item in another warehouse. He said my card wasn't actually charged (which is true, now that I look). Nevertheless, this is a terrible flow of information for the customer and a bunch of needless waiting on nothing. I can't believe that this is how a big company operates in our day-and-age of supposedly-stellar customer service. This is not the way to go. Avoid ordering online from Ace!!

I called and was told to bring the saw back for repair. The saw was taken into the repair shop and the counter person came right back out said they were not responsible because they had not removed the exhaust. I argued that the exhaust had been removed in his shop and he adamantly denied it. This would be a good time to point out one cause for an engine starting and going dead when revved is a blocked exhaust. That is the symptom this saw had! The technician who repaired the saw was brought to the front counter and an argument resulted. He agreed to repair the muffler mounting.

This entire thing took about 10 minutes with an average of 6 customers listening in. One screw and three minutes was required for the repair. While he bolted my exhaust on he told me about another customer he had replaced a riding mower belt for and the customer complained it was not cutting. He told the customer to bring the mower back and discovered a blade was missing. How do you replace a riding mower belt and not discover the blade missing? I don't recommend you have anything repaired at this facility!

I placed an online order on November 20, 2016. When I didn't get a follow up regarding the status, I called customer service that week. I was told rather rudely that I should wait until a full 8 business days passed and if I heard nothing, to call back. I was assured that my order was "allocated" but there is no shipping information available since they use their own delivery trucks. Once the 8 days passed, I called customer service and was told my order was still "allocated" but would have to wait another week to see if it showed up at the store where it was to be delivered for pick up. He called the store where it was to be delivered and said they said my order was cancelled. Customer service said they had no record of it being cancelled nor did I. He said the store had the item in stock but I would have to pay a price that was about 30% higher than the price I was supposed to pay!

I was told the stores don't have to sell it to the customer for the price they were given online because it didn't have my name on it. Yet, the reason it didn't have my name was because someone chose to cancel it! Remember, I didn't cancel this order nor did customer service. I think that leaves the store at fault. I asked for a supervisor who basically reiterated the same as the customer service agent. He said my order was "allocated" and he would put a request in to corporate as to why I wasn't receiving any updates. The following day I received an email stating my order was unable to be completed. This order had missed 2 delivery dates to the store and now they wanted to cancel? I called customer service and was told they still showed my order as "allocated" and after checking with another dept they believed the email was sent in error.

They had someone earlier that day with the same situation, different item and their item was already sitting at the store. So, this does happen. Strangely enough, the email even stated that this cancellation notice may be an error on their part! So, I'm told my order still looks good on their end. Well, after several more calls and emails sent by CS to corporate regarding a reply (which supposedly takes 48 hrs), I heard nothing. Another call to a CS supervisor and he sent another request to corporate for a response as he wasn't getting anything from them either. This time he requested they price match the item when it became available again. Well, to wrap this up, about 1 1/2 weeks later, now December 18, corporate has finally responded and has denied the request even though they expect stock in the near future.

Nothing quite like telling you "we plan on more of that item you reserved but we don't want to sell it at that price we promised, even though we are ultimately responsible for the whole mix up." Wow, I have never heard or experienced worse service. In all fairness, it starts in corporate. Customer service has no power to help you. They are in name only. They have no real time delivery system to check (archaic), they use a computer system that sends out automated messages canceling orders and state that "we apologize if this was sent in error", and a corporate office with no direct lines to customer service. I would not bother to write this, if I thought this was just a simple mistake. The company has told me several times they are not really connected to your local stores as they are each franchised. Apparently, these franchises call all the shots and corporate doesn't enforce the orders placed through online services.

I'm hoping this deters people from using Acehardware.com. Don't put yourself through the misery of dealing with a company who couldn't care less about you. Customer service really can't help you and the corporate level fails miserably at customer relations. They don't deserve your business online and if the stores are cancelling online orders (which this appears to be) someone at corporate should have your back! After all, aren't the stores using their company name?

I had a very bad experience today at the Ace Hardware in my hometown. I bought an outdoor heater in a larger city because I was there for the day. I seldomly go into this city. So when I had to return the heater because my electrician told me it would short out my system, I brought it to my local store.

The clerk was very rude. The first thing she said was "what's this?" when I told her I wanted to return it. I told her "It's a heater", and she said "where's your receipt?" I had already pointed to it and put it on top of the item. Then she said "we don't take returns from other stores, we're locally owned". Why the ** couldn't she be polite about it instead of demanding a receipt when she knew she wouldn't take the item back? She didn't even look at the receipt. It was as if she owned the store, and I know she doesn't. It's owned by a couple of old men (brothers) who live in town.

And they complain when people go to Home Depot and Lowe's. Why shouldn't we when we get better customer service, and can return something that we paid for when the return policy is 30 days? Why carry the same logo if you won't take other location's merchandise in return? Can't they get credit from the home company, or the other location? It makes sense. Their prices are really out of this world and they have very little selection, and it's poorly organized. They stick it to the customer that doesn't want to drive the hour to the next town. I went to enter a local Ace Hardware Store a few weeks back to pick up a couple pieces of hardware for some projects I was working on. I am a sixty year old man and wear a backpack as I primarily get around on motorcycles. I was informed at the door that I would not be allowed to wear my backpack into the store and would have to leave it at the front counter. I asked if women are required to leave their purses as well? No Answer. Then I asked if in Winter we will be required to check our coats at the door? Again, no answer. I then asked why they do not just have everyone shop in the buff? I then informed the employee I will absolutely NOT leave my backpack with them as I do not trust them WAY more than they do not trust me, and will be taking my considerable business elsewhere.

You could say it pissed me off to be labeled a thief just because I wear a backpack, or maybe it was because I was carrying a motorcycle helmet but either way it did strike a nerve with me. I have more than enough funds available to buy anything they sell in that store and more, but will never set foot in that or quite possibly ANY other Ace Hardware store again if this is some new company policy...

I retired about six years back from a National Lab but am constantly building new projects and/or working on others for people I know. I imagine I typically spend between 10-15K on various bits and pieces at hardware stores. I typically visit a hardware store probably three to five times a week but when on a bigger project I sometimes visit them on a daily basis. The True Value store right down the street has no such Ludicrous policies and welcomes me every time I come in the door, backpack, helmet, and all, and therefore will be getting ALL my future business.

Because I wrote a check to pay for it I have to wait 10 days to take it back and receive a refund. Or you can get an in store credit. What's the difference getting your money back or credit at the store??? And why so long? I bet they didn't even take it to the bank yet! This is so stupid. And not very good customer service. The lady talked to me like I was a criminal. If they are so afraid of checks not going through WHY? accept them in the first place? No one even warned me that if you write a check and need to return what you bought that you can't do it for 10 days. Not to mention the cost was more than any where else. I won't be shopping there any more.

Over a 12.00 sprinkler that stopped working they lost my business due to unprofessional management from the floor manager. Hateful, arrogant ** treated me like I was a convict trying to follow the Ace satisfaction guarantee policy. Told me that this item was not for commercial use (not stated anywhere on the item) and that I return sprinklers way too often (I have bought over 30 in the past 8 years). If they didn't fail it wouldn't be a problem. Lied in front of 2 cashiers (verbally beating me up about it) and others that overheard the conversation, said that the owner had a conversation about this with me (never happened). I spend 200 to 500 monthly for parts at the Orland, CA store. Well not anymore!

They obviously don't need or want my business and who wants to be treated like a criminal for trying to use their warranty. Called the 800# for corporate and they were only a go between trying to get the store to give me a replacement but a different product manufacturer without the Ace promise warranty. This was useless! They also updated their website to state 30 day refund policy. I didn't want a refund, just replacement. They just return the defective items back to the mother ship as far as I know. On a good note the workers are great people and have always been but the floor managers are a problem.

I remember when I was a kid, I always loved going inside a toy store and looking at all the new and exciting toys I could buy and play with. Now as an adult, I get that same feeling whenever I go inside an Ace Hardware store. When I say that this store has everything, it is not an exaggeration. It has everything an adult could ever want to play with, errr, I mean use for house renovations and such. I can't recount how many times I've needed something for a house project and relied on Ace Hardware to provide my needs. From different kinds of paint to floor tiles to bathroom equipment to electrical wiring, there's something for everybody there.

Their staff are also some of the most polite people you'll meet in a mall. They know exactly where everything is, so all you need to do is ask where something is and they'll personally take you there. They're also not pushy, maybe because they know that most people that go there already know exactly what they want (aside from me, who occasionally goes window shopping there for fun). They also make good suggestions based on what you need, and when I say good, I don't mean something more expensive. I mean that they analyze your needs and make suggestions based on that, not on personal commission. That is why I personally love going to Ace for my household and personal needs.

It turned out that it was not the lawnmower that was on sale. The employees decided that they had made the mistake and were ready to give it to me for the advertised sale price when the manager, Sherry, walked in and would not honor the price. She said she could order the lawnmower that was advertised for me, but I needed it today. I talked to her for a while and got frustrated and walked out of the store. For that price and the opened container I decided to return the powder two hours later. When I tried to return the powder an employee accused me of opening the powder and even put it on a scale to see if I had taken some. I called for the manager who told me that they would not return the powder because it had been opened.

At this point I told them that their policy was ridiculous. They were basically price gouging (I can get the same powder from sportsman's WH for 24.99 if I wait a few days), and I would not be a customer at their store ever again. A large male employee then told me I was trespassing and followed me out to the parking lot where he threatened to knock me out. Buy from this store at your own risk. Went into the Rome Hilliard store on Black Friday, 7am. My friend and I were the only customers in the store. I asked about the ad coupon and was briefly satisfied with their answer. I had asked if a sale item was rung at regular price would the coupon be applied. In some cases this would make the item cheaper. They said they wouldn't do that and I said that was fine. Just wanted to ask as I heard some stores will do that. Ok no problem and I wasn't upset.

Went and found the Dremel products. I wanted to purchase the Dremel 3000 ($39) as in the ad and the 180 piece ($9.95) accessory kit. The kit is locked onto j-hook with this what appears to be a red magnetic lock. We walk down aisle and a red shirt chubby male employee has a bad attitude immediately and says "he will not be the one to choose to unlock the accessory kit and he isn't sure anyone else will."

Another employee Rick (whom I've had a prior crappy experience with where I had to call the regional manager about) appears and gives me more attitude "he knows all about me". I said I'm not sure what that means but I want the Dremel Accessories locked on the hook. Rick proceeds to give me attitude and acts like unlocking the product for a sale is a hardship?!? I said again all I want is the accessories kit and maybe the Dremel. Rick continues to give me a character assessment of me. I said I have the regional manager phone number. He says go ahead and call while "we find the key". These locks are all over the store as they don't have the unlock key handy? Apparently not. I said never mind. I was told to not feel alienated after the last crappy experience and here we go again. I did walk out without the item and I did call Rick a ** and the other employees made a "oooh" sound.

I said Rick should expect another write-up since speaking to a customer is a challenge. I have left a vm for the regional mgr and also called corporate to report this poor choice for an employee. ACE lost a $50 sale. I'll spend my money at Lowe's or Home Depot from now on. ACE wants to be the local hardware store but prefer to treat you like crap in the process.

I consider that I have just been wholly ripped off at this store. I wanted to get my 100 lb propane tank filled. I was heading to another establishment, but noticed, as I drove past, that Ace Hardware in Blairsville, GA, filled propane tanks. Because I drove around the back to find the filling station, I ended up having the tank filled before paying. The person filling the tank didn't reset the counter when he started, but jumped into the back of my truck to fill the container. I quickly made a note of the initial counter, (and took another note when he finished). I then watched him struggle with connecting the filling nozzle until I explained that it's a propane tank, and therefore has a reverse thread.

When he had finished, I saw that 22.3 gallons had been put into the tank, but I understood that it was a set price to fill the tank. When I went inside to pay, I found that the set price for filling the tank was $90 with tax! I was flabbergasted by the price, but had no choice because the tank had already been filled. The lady at the checkout was not interested in my protestations about the ridiculous price. I asked what their price per gallon was, and calculated that, because of their set price, I had paid for about eight dollars worth of propane. I didn't get even at their preposterous price!

When I got back outside, I called around to find the average price per gallon for that day in that area. The average price was $2.56/per gallon. I had just been charged $4.04/gallon! Had I have gone to my original destination to have the tank filled, I would have paid $60, rather than $90! I consider that excessive and predatory pricing. I am disgusted by this. I realize that "caveat emptor" applies here, but I didn't consider that there could be THAT much difference between the local establishments. I consider that I have had $30 stolen from me.

She didn't know (She never asked me for my name and number).

So I hung up and called ACE back. The woman that I spoke to was the guy's wife. They told me to call this other guy. He would be more than happy to work on it, but I would have to pay him, then try and get my money back from Frigidaire. NOPE! So I called ACE back and told them what happened. All they told me was they were sorry and nothing they could do. I called corporate. This has been going on for a week now. Corporate has called them and told them someone would out that day to fix it. NO CALL NO SHOW. I called around 4 pm and Angela from corporate called them to find out what was going on. The manager told her that she wanted to call the owner first. Back and forth, back and forth. I want my money back. Nope can't do that either. So I have a $350 dishwasher with no one to work on it, they won't exchange it, and no refund! "I'M SORRY" is all I'm told.

They always seem so NOT be willing to make things right to their customers when it's clearly their or corporate fault for not having the item. Their latest BIG Memorial Day 4 day sale Is just an example. Offer great prices on their products and then never have it in stock for the complete sale. I went in every day of the sale to purchase Ant, Roach & Spider Killer Spray for $.99 and they never had it.

I asked for a rain check the last day of the sale and the answer I assume from the store manager is they don't offer sale item rain checks. I answered that I had been into the store every day of the sale and they didn't have any and the excuse was: "it was corporate fault". This is an on going problem at all the Ace stores. It is too bad as they usually have obscure parts that even the big box stores dont carry. But I for one am tired of their unwillingness to make things right with the customer. In this case a $.99 item. It's just the idea of it all that makes the customer unhappy, and trust me this happens much more than it should with item prices all over the board.

My packing slip shows that I only paid for the one ($15.31) and I just assumed they would show the others when they came in.

I don't know how their system works, but I have time and time again explained that the entire amount for THREE filters was deducted from my account, so I know that I did not pay for just one - I paid for three! I am earning money now but at the time I was in a slump and this was not money I could afford to lose. Every rep gives me the runaround. They are trying to tell me it was a hold not a charge. I'm sorry but three months has passed and the deduction still shows as a deduction. Ace got paid. Bottom line I want my money back. I also want Ace to apologize for this douchie behavior.
