Bought 46 inch flat screen from target. Got in March 2015 and worked until December 22, 2015. It would turn on and immediately turned off. Took to authorized repair for Magnavox and they still have it (1/27/16). They have been very nice. Got a case #. Received a call today and they want to send me a box for me to load up the tv and send it back to them. When received they will send me a refurbished tv. I told them I bought a new tv and I want a new tv not a used one. Magnavox is a joke. I really wish we could get together for a class action suit. I know I'll never get a new tv from them. Please people DO NOT buy a Magnavox.

The site was not working properly when purchased, had a yellow line up the center of the set. Called Magnavox, they sent me a box to send the set back to some T.V. repair in N.J., and they are sending me a REFURBISHED set in 10 to 20 days. My warranty goes from the day that I originally bought the NEW set. I WOULD NEVER BUY ANOTHER T.V. WITH THE NAME MAGNAVOX ON IT.

My TV is a 50" Magnavox LED smart tv that I have had for 1 year now. It has a very clear picture and the colors are also very pleasing. Navigating through the menu can be a bit challenging, you need to have patience when we are not of the technology generation and this can be overwhelming. But this is the case with all appliances today. I have my tv sitting on top of my 52" wide electric fireplace which is a perfect fit.

I've owned 3 Magnavox TVs of different size and configuration (ie) the older bulky 21", larger 36" light/flat screen and a larger 40" flat screen. They have all performed well and the older one lasted about 12 yrs. They don't have all the fancy 'do-dads' that you don't use anyway and are very price competitive because of it.

At one time I had owned a Magnavox Television from 1992 until 2012. It was perfectly good working conditions for the entire duration of ownership. I have made another purchase of Magnavox brand televisions, which is the newer model (flat screen), and I simply love it!!! It has a great picture quality and clarity, good sound and excellent performance. Over the years, when shopping for televisions, I always tend to look for Magnavox, I personally think that they hold their value. I would definitely recommend to family and friends this make and model.

I have always been happy with this television. Now with the new compact sizes and shapes they are much more serviceable. The one I still have it big, bulky and cumbersome in size, but it works great. There are good things to be said about the older models.

My floor model Magnavox is approximately 30 years old and has had only one service call early on, to replace a faulty circuit board. As well as serving as a beautiful piece of furniture, it is still functioning beautifully with a crisp picture and sharp audio. I have had many comments as to the crispness of the picture and color attributes.

I've got a Magnavox Smart Series TV (which is not an actual smart tv) and I'm satisfied with it. It's not really feature rich compared to newer TV sets, but it has a great picture and good sound, and I've had it for eight years without it breaking down on me. I've never had any trouble hooking it up to cable, DVD player or streaming player - as long as you can hook it up via a/v cables, it's good to go.

Ok but Charter is world's worst cable TV provider. Picture is awful. An explosion occurs every time you change channels. Menu is crap. The price is much too high for what is provided. I get better TV with a small Winegard antenna from about 60 miles away. HD picture, excellent reception, no charge!

DO NOT BUY A MAGNAVOX TV. Our TV was a Christmas present in 2014 from a family member who bought it at Sam's Club. Barely over a year later (five more days till Christmas 2015, folks!), the TV won't turn on anymore. The warranty just barely expired, of course. (Planned obsolescence? Wouldn't be surprised.) When the TV first started failing to turn on, we were able to do the reset by unplugging for 5 minutes and get it to turn on again. However, after this worked a handful of times, the TV wouldn't turn on no matter what troubleshooting we tried. When I called Magnavox and spoke with Customer Service (whom I could barely understand with the strong accent), she said we would need to take it to a repair center and because it was out of warranty, (just a few days over a year old!!) we would have to pay a repair fee of $125 or more depending on the repair needed.
Both repair centers she referred me to that were supposed to be closest to my zip code were a ONE HOUR DRIVE away, and when I called one of them to get more information the number had been disconnected and apparently didn't even exist anymore. The other repair center is only open Monday-Friday from 9 to 5. So those of us working full time during the week have to take off work just to get this thing fixed. When I look at the reviews of the repair shop itself, people experienced terrible customer service and couldn't get anyone to talk to them or call back as promised by them.
I'm also seeing that lots of other people had this same technical issue. So I ask myself is it worth it to take time off work, drive an hour to a sketchy repair shop, then wait weeks for it to get fixed (If it even gets fixed right the first time, as the person leaving the review of the repair shop said the guy didn't even diagnose the problem right in the first place and the reviewer had to go back several times over 3 months), have to drive back again to pick the thing up and hope it's fixed? Nope. We're getting a different brand TV and forever avoiding anything Magnavox.

I bought a Magnavox TV, it wasn't even six months old when the picture went out. I called the warranty company and have done everything that they have asked us to do. I sent my TV off supposedly to get a refurbished (which I did not buy) as a replacement in 15-20 days. Sent September 17th, TV was received by them on September 21st. It is October 26th and still no TV back. No one will give me any answers as to where my TV is. I keep getting told the same thing - a supervisor will be notified and I will get an email from them in 24-48 hours. I have been told this the last 2 weeks. I have called and still have no email or answers.
I have tried dealing with Target where I bought the TV and was rudely told they do not make the TV and will have nothing to do with it. I WOULD NEVER BUY FROM THIS COMPANY AGAIN. THEY HAVE TERRIBLE PRODUCTS AND EVEN WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE. I would never recommend this company or their products to anyone ever.

I bought a 40" Magnavox around Christmas 2014. In July 2015 the pic stopped working but it still has sound. As per the warranty, we contacted a local authorized repair shop. It was there from 7/31/15 - 8/14/15. They informed us that since the LCD panel needed replacing, it would have to be shipped back to Magnavox & a replacement would be sent out. I would get a phone call within a few days. That didn't happen so I made the call on 8/20/15. They told me it would take 15-20 business days after they received the TV for another to shipped out.
I asked for a supervisor to see if that could be expedited, to no avail. I also mentioned that I would call Target & see if they could do something faster. Before the call ended, I asked for the 2nd time that the shipping box would be there in 3-5 business days since I was leaving for vacation 9/5/15 & was assured it would be. On 8/29/15 the box still hadn't arrived, vacation was approaching & still no box. I called to see what had happened & was informed that in my file I had declined that service. Now I was furious. It was because I said I was contacting Target, who was of no help.
Since it says calls are recorded, I asked to hear the recording of me declining replacement, but the recordings are for "business" purposes only. So I told them to ship the box out & my house sitter would get it because I was told it had to be signed for. Well 5 days passed & oh yeah, the box was supposed to be expedited so I call again, & was told it could take up to 7 days & I should have not been told it would be expedited. Finally on day 8, my house sitter found the box left at my door in the pouring rain. Labor Day didn't count as a business day & surprise, it didn't need to be signed for.
One rep actually asked if I had to go out of town. Well yeah, our vacation is always paid for a year in advance & why should I pay for the lie that I declined a replacement? So, we get home Saturday 9/12/15 & call up Magnavox to let them know the TV was packed ready to go since you only have 5 days after the box arrives to ship it out. The rep made the scheduled pick up, told me it was for that Monday, with the small window of 8 am - 8 pm. I had no food in the house due to vacation with 3 small kids, so I couldn't leave the house. By 2 pm, I called FedEx & asked if there was a way to narrow the window. Then, surprise, she told me the scheduled pick up was for Tuesday 9/15/15, again from 8 am - 8 pm.
I really had things to do, like pay my mortgage, food shop, etc. but thank God the guy came at noon. So I tracked it & it got there on 9/18/15 within the 5-day limit. I have been calling since 9/19/15 about 2x/week and still do not have a tracking # for my replacement TV. I know today was only day 18 & I still have 2 more days. But again I talked with a supervisor & was told the upper management who handles replacements & them can only communicate by email, but he would put it as a top priority email & should hear something no later than Monday, which would be day 21. He was very upset when I told him that would be breaching the warranty, then told me it would not be their fault, it would be FedEx's fault.
I will call tomorrow & Friday which is day 20 & if I don't have a tracking #, I will definitely seek legal counsel. I told to people with such pretty names as Princess & Lovely, pretty little liars is more like it. I thought I was buying a brand I could trust, so I didn't bother reading the reviews. Now I see the extended warranty will be no good since it will be a different TV. I will never again buy anything that remotely is associated with Magnavox & will not recommend them to anybody. I once learned in business school that a good review might affect 1 customer, but a bad review can affect up to 7-9 people not buying that product.
Their customer service is the worst. I have been lied to at least 3x: (1) declining the service, (2) the box being expedited & (3) the scheduled pick-up time. I have been placed on hold once for 45 minutes and another for over an hour, both times I ended up hanging up which I know is what they wanted. Then I was having it out with a supervisor Rudy & he put me on hold. It reached 11 or 11:30 pm (whichever is the closing time) & was automatically hung up on. So I guess I shouldn't be upset with Magnavox since it's all FedEx's fault anyway right?? I DO NOT recommend MAGNASUX to anyone. Save your hard-earned $$$.

I'm tempted to try and put better caps in it myself. But I will try the service center first. Pretty pissed. Really disappointing. Wouldn't buy a Magnavox again with a gun to my head. I purchased a Magnavox 55" smart TV from SAM's club in March 2015. I got it home safely, meaning I didn't drop, bang or hit the TV on anything. I had a professional person to come and hook it up to the internet and cable. The tv worked fine for about a 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, it no longer played Netflix or any other applications over wifi. I contacted my internet provider and Magnavox customer service department. I reset tv and reset Netfix but nothing worked. The tv itself plays fine, it just won't connect to Internet which was the purpose of me even purchasing the tv.
I contacted Magnavox again and was asked to take pictures of the tv and email them. I did so. I got an email back asking to send more pictures. I did so. The last email I received back said that my tv had physical damage that Magnavox was not responsible for and the repair cost would be at my own expense. To say I was and still disappointed is an understatement. I WOULD NEVER IN MY LIFE PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY AGAIN.

I wrote a Smart tv from Magnavox company. NOT even 4 month my Tv screen went out twice. The first time it went out but you could still see the pictures along with the sound. Now not even one day later my kids was watching TV and out of nowhere the whole screen went out and all you see is colorful lines on the screen. Now here the problem start. So I contacted Magnavox Company and complained and I was told to submit a photo along with my receipt since it haven't even been a year since I purchased. So I did that and I was told by two customer service that either I will get another tv or they will repair it. Ok. So I sent out the receipt and the photo of the Tv ok and was told within 2 to 3 business days I will get an email back on the issue.
Ok next day not even a whole 24 hours I received a email. Was stated the manufacturer warranty will not fix the issue and this issue was a neglect, abuse, not properly taken care something like that. They sent me and was basically telling me, "Yes you waste your money and no we will not help you". Ok that when all hell break loose I was going to just leave it alone and buy another tv. But then again I wasn't going to let $266.50 goes down the drain because Magnavox lies to me and said they so called was going to fix it or give me another one. So you know what I did? I call their number back which is 800-605-8610 and I was on the line with some India man who could barely speak English. So I already see how this will play out and just what I expected Magnavox really a con artist scamming people hard earning money on their ** ass device that doesn't function correct and expect us to waste additional money to fix.
Oh no, not me. I demanded for a supervisor and the man will not let me talk to one and said I should just go to the nearest customer care center so I could get it repair and of course not by the Magnavox company but with my money. So totally was not fair and I'm was heavily asking and demanding for a supervisor but that man still was refusing to give me a supervisor. Then out of nowhere they sent me another email and the email now said they so call. They call will contact me within 2 business days to find a situation. ** lies they tell so as I still on the phone with the same man. I'm still demanding the supervisor so he put me on hold and I noticed every other 10 or 20 seconds he keep checking the line I guess to see if I hung up but no perhaps I'm still waiting for this so call supervisor.
Then after waiting for 6 whole long minutes then he finally came back and claim, "Officially the supervisor is not able to speak right now and I'll be contact within 24-48 hours." I'm was like, "What? No. I'm not going to wait that long. I want to speak to a supervisor right now because it not fair. I'm complaining about your product so it can get fix but I have to be on a guessing waiting game. So I demanding someone who higher than the supervisor and I even requested a corporate. So out of nowhere the same India speaking man said, "Hold on," he will check on the supervisor (shaking my head, mind you everyone I was told he was unavailable and I have to wait 24-48 hours for a supervisor). "Ok so", I said. Ok so I waited for less than 1 minute shocking for a supervisor who was unavailable but came to the phone so quick.
Ok so supervisor came on the phone and I make sure I asked 8 times, "Are you the supervisor?" and he was talking so low as if he was trying to change his voice and back of my head I said to myself might be the same India man so I try to hear his voice and get his name. He said it so quickly and he was so low. I couldn't barely heard it than when I ask again for his name. He sounds like he pissed and wanted to rushed me off the phone but any who the so call supervisor was speaking and was saying everything that the India man was saying and I express to them my complaint and how highly disappointed and upset I was and to be honest this man came out his man and said sorry if it sound like I'm rushing out the phone but you could just go to the nearest customer service care.
I'm like no so I could pay out of my pocket when clearly Magnavox company have warranty out for their devices and should fix any issues and not the customers which is totally not far and a big rip off and do you think after talking and demanding them to help you would thought they will do something but still enforce me to this place to get my tv. But I will have to come out of the pocket yes and like I told Magnavox customer service this tv was damaged on it on and no one damage it so they should be able to fix it and he stated if I do go to the customer center service and find it is not damaged they will repair or send me another tv. Ok whatever that what I was saying but let see how this end. But I won't give up especially draining my money down the garbage where I could use that on my kids. I just want my refund for purchasing this tv so don't even want to bothering wasting my time.
I already see this company is full of ** and could care less about the buyers who buy their products. I'm make sure I'll do my part and making sure everyone knows about Magnavox company any of their products are not worth buying even if it free. I won't buy it. PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH ON ANY COMPANY and if you find out everyone complaining is bad and not even 1 person giving good feedback trust and believe you better run and DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

Bought a 39 inch LED tv at target in Jan 2014. One year later, and right before warranty expired, it went DEAD. Nothing. No standby light, no picture, no sound. Took me a few days to find the manual, and try troubleshooting. Contacted customer service, closed. Tried again in 2 days, they referred me to a disconnected number. Tried again, they then told me TV was no longer under warranty. They would not budge. They told me “my warranty expired on Jan 27th and my first logged call to them was on Jan 31st". Stay away from Magnavox, they are making a poor product with even poorer customer service.

I purchased a Magnavox LED from ABC Warehouse in November of 2013. The TV stopped working two weeks after the one year factory warranty expired. The power light will come on, but there's no audio or picture. ABC warehouse refused to stand behind it. I was given the number for Magnavox customer service, who in turn gave me the phone number to a repair shop to take it to. According to the repair shop, it would cost more to repair it than what it would to purchase a new one. Before putting it out for the trash pick up, I decided to try to power it up one last time. Lo and behold it worked... until the next day. Again no picture, no sound. It will work some days, others it will not. I will never ever purchase a Magnavox again. She may have watched television 3 times for a total of 15 hours of viewing time and now it will not power on at all. I thought I would research this issue first before calling Magnavox for help. However, after reading the reviews from other customers who suffered the same fate, I decided it was pointless because nothing has been done about it. It appears that this is a known issue and the manufacturer is aware of it and has made a profit from poorly manufactured televisions.
I once thought Magnavox was a reputable brand, but boy have I changed my thoughts and feelings towards Magnavox. I will never buy anything that starts with an M again. I am totally done as a consumer and will be spreading this experience around. I have never taken time to share my buying experience as a consumer in a written forum before, but after this experience I had to share with the world! I feel ripped off and taken advantage of. I would never buy a Magnavox again just because of the service and care I've been given. I have been patient. I had purchased the warranty from Target but when they announced they were going bankrupt in Canada I asked for a refund of the warranty. If the company was not going to be here, I couldn't see any use in having a warranty when there wouldn't be a company to return it to. So now that it is breaking down after less than a month, what am I supposed to do? I can't wait to return it because we have no idea if the store will close down in a week or a month. Magnavox was a trusted name when I was growing up, now they obviously only produce worthless garbage. I am so disgusted that a product like this could be sold to hardworking consumers. Due to the receiving office refusing the delivery several times, it took until January 5, 2015 for the TV to be delivered to them. In early September, I bought a Magnavox TV from Sam's Club. I went with them because they have always been a reputable company. I could have easily saved myself $50 and gone with a no-name brand. About a month after having the TV, I noticed that a dark shadowy area was developing on the right side. I waited a couple of weeks to see if it would go away, tried cleaning the screen, unplugged the set for a few hours, etc to resolve the issue. It only got worse. I called Magnavox and on their automated message, it says to contact them via the web for a faster response. I did that. They sent me an email the next day saying to call their service center for diagnosis. I called their service center that day. They said I needed to contact a local repair place for diagnosis and gave me the number of the closest authorized repair center. I tried calling that place for 4 days, never getting anyone to answer the phone or even voicemail to pick up so I could leave a message. I then called the service center back to get the number for a different repair place.
I called that place and the owner told me I needed a claim number. Magnavox never said anything about a claim number in the previous three communications with them. I called them back to get a claim number. They then told me that they would send me a box to pack up the TV and send back to them. They would exchange it for a different one. This would take 4 weeks. I only have one TV and didn't want to wait 4 weeks, so I asked if I could get the claim number to take somewhere locally to get fixed quicker. They gave me the claim number and I took it to H&H Electronics in St. Louis Park, MN. This was nearly 3 weeks ago. I have been calling H&H and leaving messages for them for a week now asking for a status update on my TV. They won't return my calls and I can never get a hold of the owner, only his mother.
I called Magnavox today trying to find out what other options I had to get my TV repaired and returned quickly to me. They wanted me to send it back to them, but now it was going to cost me $70 because the warranty expired. The warranty expired because their authorized return center is sitting on my TV for three weeks! After asking to speak to a supervisor, they would waive the $70 cost but it still will take 4 weeks for me to get it returned. BTW, Sam's Club will also do nothing to help me with this issue. So here I sit for two months without a TV because Magnavox will not expedite repairs on their defective products.

I was told to call in the morning the 800 number and return it. I did so as advised. They do not accept that as a return. They would send me a DVD to fix it myself? I asked when I would get their disk. I was advised they had no idea; they only send the disk out 1 time per month.
Here is the strange part. I bought the unit for $ 280 last September. Now, it is selling for around $1,000. So what did they do to charge that price when the unit is a piece of ** in plain words? I would say do not purchase anything from Magnavox with this kind of service. If you think I am lying, try calling the number for help, 1-888-290-0871. Go, try it, see for yourself just how good of a tech support they have. It is your money. Give it a try; it's a free number. It might save you a lot of money and trouble since their tech support stinks. As far as online chat, that is worse if you get a Chris. He is so lazy, no help at all. Like I said, it is your money. I purchased about 14 Magnavox model ZV427MG9 and ZV457MG93 DVD/VCR combos last summer, 7 months ago. They're all broken. All of them. Several of them have terrible tracking, so you can't make a copy. Several machines had garbled and very low audio, so your DVD copy comes out with no sound. Several players shut down completely when the front display panel read out "S-A-T" and the players had to then be shut down for 24 hours before they started working again. Another player starts to record when you play FFD or REW, so several of my 25-year old videos were partially erased. Other players would not dub, my 30-year old wedding movies, saying "You are not allowed to record this on a disc" as the player misread my wedding video for a pre-recorded film.
When I phoned Magnavox yesterday and spoke with supervisor Edith, she told me that my warranty just ended and that I'd have to pay for all the repairs for all 14 broken players. She said that she didn't care if I complained, that she'd be proud if I use her name and that she would not let me speak with the manager. She told me to go to hell and hung up. Magnavox sells junk. I bought a 47" Magnavox flat screen at Sam's Club about 4 years ago. From day one, we had the issue of not being able to turn the TV off manually. If you did, 9 times out of 10, the green light would come on but the screen is black. We had to physically unplug the TV, wait and then plug it back in. It usually comes back on after that, so we didn't worry about that too much. Sunday, 1/8/12, I walked into my bedroom and heard a chirping noise and smelled something burning. The TV's green light was on but there was no sound and no picture. I turned the TV on and off, we got a chirping noise every time.
I Googled "Magnovox TV making chirping noise" and wow, so many people with the same problem. It sounds like it's not even worth taking to go get it fixed. I'm with one of the reviewers, this is not a coincidence. I know we paid almost $800 for the TV. What? It only lasted 4 years, there's nowhere around that repairs it and it happens all the time? The cause seems to be faulty capacitors. When I turn on the TV with the remote or manually, the "on" light flashes, but the TV doesn't turn on. This goes on for about 60 minutes and there's no way of stopping it.
Turning the TV off doesn't work. After about 1 hour, the flashing stops and I then have to immediately hit the "on" button in the hope that the TV will finally turn on. Sometimes it does, most times it doesn't. But if not, the duration of the flashing is shorter. Once the flashing stops again, I hit the "on" button and the TV usually turns on.

I am angered as I read through all the complaints about Magnavox and their pitiful products and customer service. I too made the mistake of purchasing model #47mf437b LCD TV. This TV is 2 1/2 years old at this point, purchased in April 2008, and has been giving us trouble for several months now, much like all the problems I see described on this and other forums. The TV began by not wanting to turn on just occasionally. We would go through the red light flashing with no picture when the power was pushed either on the remote or the TV itself.
Sometimes we would also get a green light like it had turned on but there would be no picture. Sometimes we would get just a back lit screen with no picture. The problem became progressively worse and now has taken an hour to get it to come on after unplugging it, waiting, then plugging back in or just fiddling with the remote 60 times on-off-on-off. I really thought this might be an isolated problem-ha ha, not so much, and we called Magnavox's customer service to see what to do. Like many others we were told there was nothing they could do because our warranty had expired. I'm sorry, but a $1200 TV should last more than 2 1/2 years! What a piece of junk!
Luckily I am a stubborn person who refuses to take this thing to the repair shop and began reading the forums for fix-its for this problem, and I happen to have a brother who knows circuit boards and can test the components, etc. So that is what we did. We disassembled the sucker and he tested every part on the power supply board.
The crazy thing was he wasn't finding any parts that were bad, then he held the board up to the light and saw a crack in the solder by the diodes. He said it did seem like this area may have gotten too hot. He re-soldered it and the set works for now but after reading all the complaints, I'm sure it won't be long before something else goes bad, so it is living on borrowed time right now.
This took us an entire afternoon to accomplish, so be prepared to spend several hours, but it is worth trying to fix it yourself. There is no harm in opening up the back and taking a look especially if the warranty is out anyway! I just think Magnavox should be ashamed to sell such ** and then to not stand behind their ** is even worse. I have purchased my last Magnavox product and I would strongly recommend anyone else to do the same! After six months, the television developed one thin vertical red line on the left hand side that ran through the whole picture. This was reported and we were told to make some adjustments. The line went away for 2 to 3 months and then appeared again. We were then told to bring the television in and Magnavox would cover the parts and we would pay the labor. I asked for something in writing to confirm this but we never received anything.
We took the television in and were told that Magnavox would not be covering the parts because we brought the television in, a week too late and the year warranty has already expired. We tried to state our case saying that these problems started way before the year was up and that we were given no time limit as to when the television would be brought in.
Finding time and an available appointment to drive an hour and 1/2 from our home was not easy. It was of no use. Magnavox said they would not cover the parts anymore. We wrote two letters to headquarters and never received a response.
As of May 2010, the television became completely unwatchable with vertical red and blue lines running all the way across the screen. We felt extremely upset by not only losing $1,388.00 plus tax, but also by the way we were treated by Magnavox. We will never purchase another Magnavox or Phillips product because of this.

I bought a Magnavox LCD 47in for more than $1,400.00, about 3 years ago. Just after the first year, it developed a faint line down the middle of the screen. Then a few days ago, it just went out, no picture and the only sound comes from the power button, making a beeping noise. Tried getting help from Magnavox but they said that because my warranty was up, they won't do anything to help. I understand that warranties are sold for this reason, but after only 2 and a half years and $1,400.00. I'm just sick about it. I can't afford to buy another TV like this one, just wish they would make a quality product or stand behind what they do make. $1,400.00 is a lot ,a lot of money for me to just throw down the drain for a TV to last, not even 3 years. Out a TV and $1,400.00 after just over 2 years!

We did get it to come back on after 3 hours of turning it on and then unplugging it wait until the red and green lights go out then plug it back in and try again. This can be very time consuming and to say the least frustrating. I've read the complaints and there are a lot of people that have the same problem with there Phillips television. They came again in early April and returned to repair the TV on 04.15.2010 switching a panel on the TV. Since then, the TV is making a loud disturbing noise.
There is visual but it's making a horrible noise every few minutes lasting a while. I contacted Frontier on the same day they repaired the TV informing them of the problem. I waited all day on Friday, 16th April, for a call from either Frontier or Magnavox. I called Magnavox on Saturday, the 17th and was told that they will transfer the file to consumer dept. I was told to call back on Tuesday. I called and was told to wait on a call because they were working on it. I spoke to Frontier Enterprises today and they told me I would have to pay for the trip to my home on Monday if the tech does not see the problem. Picture will not appear during this time and if it does, it will shut on and off. TV is approximately 2 years old and the problem has been going on for the past 6 months but is now happening at an unacceptable rate.
TV was purchased through Best Buy and I will make a complaint for them to no longer sell this brand. I had no idea there were this many problems associated with this brand of TV. When TVs are purchased the consensus is if they make it through the first year with factory warranty, it will usually last until it is obsolete in the far future but that is not the case for this manufacture.
Given the length of time these problems have been in happening, the manufacture should be penalized for continuing the selling of these products and not providing service necessary for customer satisfaction. This is how companies go under, manufacturing for cost overseas and extremely poor customer satisfaction. I sure hope they have not received stimulus money to stay solvent. Then again, it depends on who they know or who the owner is.

I called the business where I purchased and they did not help either, except to say they would bring a repairman to my house. This entire repair would run at least $400.
A quick Google search revealed a common problem with 2 electrolytic capacitors going bad (3600uF 10V). As a technician for 20 years, I removed the power supply from the TV and immediately identified the capacitors. Working for an engineering firm, I took the supply to work and replaced the caps with a higher value, re-installed the power supply and the TV immediately energized.
I believe Magnavox is aware of this problem. Rather than being honest, they did not cooperate. I even told the representative of my technical background. I've posted to complaint boards, posted my complaint to various consumer protection groups and informed my engineering staff, Facebook friends, various military associates and others of this episode. We began to see some issues with both units in December, but they would correct themselves and go away. So we have spent about $250 on the 2 units. We come to find out the 1st unit is out of warranty and does not work, no recourse according to the people at the "support" number. The second unit, bought in May, is out of its labor warranty, with time on its parts warranty.
We spoke to the "Customer Support" number and after some conversation they offered to reduce the labor charge. I spoke to them with the position that the labor charge is over 30% of the units cost and given I have 2 that went bad in the same month; I wanted the labor charge waived. The first line folks were fine, the manager however was evasive and then as I pushed for a better resolution became condescending, nasty, arrogant and belligerent. I asked to speak to his manger, and he refused, said to take the deal offered or leave it, it was the best I would get and that his manager does not speak to the public. He then went onto say that this conversation was over if I pushed to speak to anyone else or pursue a better offer.
At this point, I don’t care about the units getting fixed, although I feel they should, I am angry and disgusted with the attitude the Customer Support manager took with me. It reflects negatively on Magnavox, oops, I mean Philips Magnavox, reputation. I will not nor will I ever recommend any products this company makes. All it will do is "click" repeatedly. This is extremely frustrating because like most, we do not have another $900 to go and spend on replacing this TV. If these televisions are having so many repeated issues, then Phillips/Magnavox really should either offer a life-time warranty or a better extended warranty!
When I called their customer service, they just suggested I call a service technician out to look at it and that there was nothing they could do. I also called Target (because we had purchased a warranty) and they informed us that without the original sticker they give you with the warranty, that there was nothing they could do.
Whatever happened to TVs lasting for 25 years or more? The better looking they get, the cheaper they are manufactured. For those who may be having the same problem, we were told by both Target Electronics and the customer service that it sounds like the power supply--which will cost us around $200. The technician needs $80 to trouble shoot. If we cannot afford the repair cost, we lose the $80.

I purchased the Magnavox 50" Plasma TV in December 2007 from Walmart for $1800. It just started the same trouble with turning on and blinking red lights. So I went online to see if I could troubleshoot it. To my surprise, I immediately found thousands of complaints about this same problem! So I appreciate all of you that wrote about the capacitors. I will have a friend try that first. But I will also file a formal complaint and join any law suit.

My 50" Magnavox Plasma TV experienced the red light of death. I purchased it in December 2006. The problem started in January 2010. We had not turned it on daily, sometimes for weeks, during the three year period. All my tube TVs lasted at least 15 years (not Philips). I have not tried to call a repair shop yet.

I purchased a 42" Magnavox LCD 1080p from Costco for $1000.00 in July 2007. I started to notice dark vertical line down the center a few months ago. It had become more predominant and now there are fainter lines to the left and right as well. I know the warranty was up in July 2009. Costco extends an additional year. I called Magnavox/Phillips customer service and explained the problem. They told me "it happens" and also to try unplugging it then plug it in again. This did not fix the lines.

I purchased a Magnavox 50" LCD on August 2007. Whenever I attempt to turn it on, the TV flashes red light for 6 times. I must unplug the TV until green light appears. It will then turn on. Who has $2000 to spend on a new TV every 2 years?

I also bought a Magnavox 50" in November 2006. Same problems - from the blinking lights to no customer satisfaction! After following the instructions to replace the capacitors, the TV does not work. I saw a customer at Best buy who was about to buy a Magnavox, and I quickly changed his mind to choose Sony! Please call 1-877-573-0007 to get on the list for a class action lawsuit!

I purchased a brand-new 60" flatscreen TV (model number 60PL9200D/37 and serial number YA1A0641032538) through Rent-A-Center. But I bought it brand-new. I had the TV fixed one time while on warranty for a lamp burning out. After the warranty was up and paid off, I had problems with dark picture, long time turning off and on, bad sound sometimes, and blinking red light. And as of today, I heard a loud "pop" and I can hear my TV but I cannot see it. The lamp was just changed less than a year ago. I have spent a lot of money on this piece of junk. I tried calling the company but got nowhere. I know this is a product of defective lemon issue from the company itself. Look everywhere on the internet and see how many complaints there are. Sure, every product has complaints, but not like this!

We purchased a 50-inch plasma Magnavox TV three years ago. The TV has been giving us problems for the past year. When you turn it on, it turns off automatically and a red light blinks on the bottom left-hand corner. I have done a lot of research online to try to figure out the problem. It seems all these televisions are defective, by other similar complaints. I called four different estimates of repair, and it would cost me over $500 to repair it. I personally think this is a ripoff by the manufacturer because they produced a defective product. All I want is my TV fixed. I paid over $1,300 for it just to last almost three years.

We paid over $1000.00 for our 37-inch Magnabox LCD TV. Within a year, we had trouble getting it to turn on and stay on. We click the remote and the green light comes on then dies out. We have to repeat it several times. It can take half the day for it to decide to start working! Magnabox is building an inferior product and has been for several years now according to the posts I read here. This company truly needs a Class Action Lawsuit filed against them. If this does not take place, they will continue building this inferior product.

I purchased a Magnavox 42MF231D/37 Plasma TV less than 2 years ago. Well of course, I woke up this morning to turn the TV on and I had a black screen with only sound so I turned the TV completely off and unplugged it for 2 hours. I turned it back on and the same thing happened. I did not find this website until I got on the phone with Customer Service at Magnavox and the very first person I spoke to, named Blake, told me there was nothing that they would do or could do so good luck and hung up on me. Well, I called right back, even more upset than I already was and spoke to Andre who pretty much had the same attitude. So, I asked to speak to his manager Angela and she too told me that since it was out of warranty, they would not do anything but told me to research it myself and have a repairperson come out.
So, I then asked to speak to her boss and that was David - these people are programmed to say whatever it is that they need to say, huh? David did nothing as well but did say that I should have purchased the extended warranty, and I let him know after purchasing a TV less than 2 years ago, the last thing you think about is it breaking considering that my washer & dryer are almost 10 years old and are almost like brand new. It is very upsetting and frustrating that a company would treat people this way and does nothing to help even though they know that obviously something is wrong with this make & model. I do hope that something happens but if not, I guess I will be just like the others and be out the money and a TV!

I purchased the 47MF437B LCD TV in December 2007 and had similar issues as other posts with the red and green lines across the screen. Prior to this, we would see the volume indicator appear on the screen and adjust on its own followed by a loud, screeching, popping sound that makes everyone jump before the screen goes blank. I thought it was my HD cable box that was causing the problem and had it replaced. Well of course, that didn't help. Fortunately, with unplugging the unit, I too have been able to keep the TV working until the episode repeats, which varies from time to time. My purchase of a Magnavox HDTV flat panel for $1,466.85 should last more than two years of viewing. To repair the TV will cost me about the same purchased amount.

I purchased a 19-inch LCD TV with built-in DVD on 12-24-2007 from Sam's Club. In March of 2008, the TV quit working. I have contacted Magnavox and they tell me there is no authorized service center near me and could not tell me if there was any at all with the capability and parts to repair this unit. I paid $400.00 for the TV and now it does not work nor can I get it repaired. Repair shops tell me they cannot get parts or diagrams from Magnavox. Now, I have to repurchase a TV to replace a unit that should have lasted longer.

I bought a Magnavox 27-inch flatscreen not quite 2 years ago. Now the sound goes out first and then black screen. I have tried unplugging from the power source and holding or purging by holding on/off button, which is similar to what you do on a pc monitor. I used to bring it back on, now even though the light is green, there is no picture, just black screen and I can't turn off the TV.

In March 2008, I purchased a 42-inch Magnavox plasma TV for roughly $1,000. A few weeks ago (age of the TV would be 20 months old), the TV would not turn on and just clicked. I did not purchase an extended warranty from the store or Magnavox because at the time of purchase, I researched TVs and found that this was among the best. Magnavox will do nothing for me. Count me in on a class action lawsuit as their products are just no good!

I purchased one 42" plasma TV model # 42MF231d/17 on November 6. It worked great until 28 June 09. I turned it on, no picture, no sound with a light on power button. I called Magnavox, they simply said, "Sorry, you are out of warranty," and to take it to a repair shop. I asked for an authorized repair in my area and was told, they could not give me that info because I was out of warranty.
