I really enjoy my work out experience at In-Shape Capitola, CA. They have everything I need to meet my goals except for a seated calf machine, which I've put in a request for. Otherwise, a very nice facility with all the extras like a trainers, aerobic classes, a pool, lap pool, ice tub, sauna, if you need those things. And the showers and locker area are clean.
I would have given In-Shape Capitola 5 stars but for the complacent staff. 9 out of 10 times they won't even acknowledge you when you walk in or see them around the gym. They aren't rude, but not friendly either. A nice greeting when you walk in the door would make all the difference. Besides that, it's affordable and generally well equipped for all of your fitness needs.
I love our Monterey In-Shape. It's a great place to go. Staff are wonderful, especially Rocky, RJ and Susanne. Always helpful and do everything they can to make your experience a good one. Kudos to you!! Keep up the great work!
We love the In-Shape Health Club in El Dorado, CA. We think it is the most complete fitness center we have ever been members! The staff is very friendly and helpful! They are almost like family! We are VIP members and we enjoy all of the amenities! Best fitness center ever!
I use Prescott In-Shape. I swim laps 3 x week & soak in the therapy pool. I especially like the therapy pool because it's not boiling hot which allows me to stay longer for my aching joints. The swimming pool (122 ft) is a great length for laps. There are a few minor issues that need to be addressed. A railing along the wall from the women's changing room to pool area would be helpful as the flooring is slippery. And the walkway around the pool is slippery when wet. These need attention. Otherwise a great facility & friendly staff.
Modesto Floyd Location: I’ve not attended like my “norm” all year due to some personal factors & hoping to get back real soon. However being a member with InShape for many years I’ve never been disappointed. Staff’s always professional, friendly and helpful.
I spoke with Darla in the Personal Trainer Customer Service Department (Hanford). She was extremely helpful with my questions and making a decision about my account. I was very happy with the outcome of our conversation.
I was very please to learn many things from trainer at Palmdale East since I am 69 years old with many old age health issues and added to that I am caregiver for my husband. I need more energy and strength along with don't fall policy I have hear from my doctors. I was very happy to be there once a week and I would like to get back if I can as soon as my husband get better. Thank God my son is doing very well there and building so much for himself. He can help me while when he is home to pick my husband (6'2") up when he fell to the floor couldn't get up himself. Otherwise I just pull him to the where he can reach (sink or cabinet) to pull himself up. I am 5 feet. There are no way otherwise I will be hurt. Anyway, I have to say Thank you so much for help you guys given me. Because of that I will be back.

For always greeting you with a smile on their face with a hello and have a good work out that means a lot. For keeping the facility clean, always there when you need something, they should be called the A-Team.
I had a very pleasant experience with Vanessa ** from corporate! She has excellent customer service skills and was empathetic to my situation. She went above and beyond to help me fix another employee's mistake.
I'm very happy I joint In-Shape fitness center. I have been a member since May if this year. And I'm also happy with my trainer. Although, I go at least 3 times a week and work with my trainer two times a month. I feel super! Great! And my body is happy. Thank you, In-Shape???
Gym is clean and has great equipment but its atmosphere is boring. Most of the staff is very friendly. Kim is my trainer and has been great. The music played needs a total overhaul and needs to be louder. Gym needs to be brighter.
The recruitment manager at the March Lane in Stockton is not fit to be a manager. One of my students was told she was hired at the daycare and every time the student called to find out when to fingerprints the manager avoided her and even left her on hold and never came back. When some of the teachers at my school heard me talk about this rude recruiter, two of them shared that they stopped going to the In-Shape at the March Lane location because of how rude the staff was at the front desk. One of them said she was given a hard time at the front desk when trying to cancel her membership when she got pregnant and could not work out any longer. She actually had to go to the office on El Dorado with a doctor's note. The other teacher said she and her husband will never go to March Lane again due to the uncaring attitude of the staff.
Me and my child love going to our gym! The staff is always upbeat and friendly. The trainers are top notch. And the gym is always kept nice and clean! I prefer to go to this gold gym. I wish they had larger women's clothing items. It's a challenge getting gym gear in my size.
I relocated from San Diego back to Antioch and needed a gym. This was a great choice for me, it's my 2nd home. I never have issues getting on equipment, and can change up my workout everyday because there is plenty to choose from. Only thing I don't care for are some of the members that have younger kids that play on the equipment or goof around in the gym. The price being lower would be nice too.
Maynel at customer service was exceptional. She did above and beyond customer service in assisting me through my every need. She was the friendliest person I have ever spoken with in my life. Each time she not only helped me with what I needed but excelled giving me another reason to love being a In Shape Bakersfield White Lane customer.
I love the gym in Ridgecrest. It has been great and the energy there is very positive. I like how each area is segregated a bit instead of all in one room. The only thing I did not enjoy was my session with a personal trainer. She rushed thru and didn't show me exercises for the goals I wanted to accomplish. It felt as though she didn't want to train me. What was supposed to take an hour took 28 minutes. If I ever use a trainer again, (not likely after that) it will not be her.
The overall thing that I love about this gym is that no matter what day or what time I work out, there is always so much variety of things to use to get in shape. The parking lot could be full of cars but the layout and options of equipment in the gym allow for a spacious environment... Where it never seems crowded. The staff are so welcoming and this is one of the cleanest gyms I have visited.
I've referred a few new clients that have signed up. As a reward for my referrals I've been promised a jacket, 2 t-shirts and 2 backpacks but had yet to receive any. When I ask the reps they just tell me to call corporate and fight with them. What kind of customer service is that? NO MORE REFERRALS! I'm considering switching gyms.
I enjoy the pool classes at either Floyd or Prescott. It made me happy when they added 2 more morning classes at Prescott but then they changed the time to 9:30 which annoyed me. I like to go and be there by 8:30 but they always mess with the pool classes when they change time on a class. Also the women's locker rooms in both areas are quite small. Other than those complaints I enjoy my time there.
My experience has been great. I use to work out in the evening after work but changed to an early morning routine. The morning staff greets all of the customers and says goodbye when leaving. I work out at the Vacaville Elmira club. The men's locker room has improved a lot in its cleanliness. It was hit or miss during the past year and a half. But now the crew who now cleans is better. The floor is organized and equipment put away. In-Shape has been good to me.
Michael ** was very helpful in helping me resolve an issue I had regarding a misunderstanding of the training package. He was very professional and had good follow through. Because of him taking care of my issue, I will now go and post a very positive endorsement of In-Shape (Visalia Demaree) and spread the word to all of my friends and business associates about what a great organization you have. Omg Czerina ** at the support center was AWESOME!! We had a nice 10-15 min conversation. She was friendly, very knowledgeable, and to-the-point. I unfortunately had to put my membership on a hold; she was understanding of my reason and didn't make me feel like a social deviant for having to do so. I appreciate her time and positive energy. If only all In-Shape employees could be like her. ;)
Was pleased with interaction with representative Vanessa on phone so I hope my rating I gave doesn't affect her in any way. I am however disappointed with the Air conditioning at the clubs. Turlock on countryside and Ceres on Mitchell AC is programmed to be way too hot for a workout environment. Need to put AC cooler. Also upset with the yearly maintenance fee.
I spoke with Elizabeth ** in the customer service line regarding my bill. She took care of everything asap and even took the to ask me how the weather is like in NM. She refunded a check that I didn't expect that. EXCELLENT customer service. I hope she gets applauded for her excellent work.
Merced Yosemite Ave - I did speak to Sharon the club manager, I returned her call and she asked me if everything was still okay from when we last spoke. She did not address the problems about customer service. She did inform me that it takes a few days to receive a credit for the In-Shape goggles that I had to return. The goggles did not work right at all, water seeped in the goggles with each use. All three ISC goggles were the same, the fourth pair that did work well was made from a different brand, called Leader and I did not ask to return those. I hope something is done regarding better customer service skills. Thank you.
The members services agent was very professional and supportive. She gave me much relief by assisting me to get current on my account. Thank you, In-Shape, for being flexible with me over the years. I am a loyal and devoted member and will always encourage family and friends to become members as well.
In-Shape Health Club Lompoc: I really appreciate how amazing customer service has been to me. I appreciate a positive caring attitude when I'm having a difficult time and have a ton of stress. A huge change from many years ago. Keep the amazing work!
I called on August 30th to cancel my kids club membership. While talking to Czerna ** She mentioned to me that since I had checked in more than 12 times I could receive a free bag and a bottle of water. She said she would call the gym and notify them that I would be stopping by that day. She even said she would put it in the system so they could see it when I checked in.
She called me back to confirm that the bag and bottle was ready to be picked up and if the manager had left, he would leave the items at the check in desk. I was so thankful that she had took the extra step to call me back to let me know she had spoken to the club and that everything was taken care of. So I went to the club in Manteca on Yosemite (next to the Big Lots store) later on that evening. As I checked in the girl at the front desk said the manager hadn't left anything there and that he would be back the next day if I wanted to come by to talk to him about it. I told her the story of how I had spoken to someone earlier from customer service and she assured me it would be there. She explained to me there was nothing she could do and I would have to come back. I figured I would stop by the next day to find out what happened. Unfortunately I injured myself at work and have not been to the gym since that day.
Today I received a call from In-Shape notifying me that my bag and bottle of water was ready for pickup. I asked the lady if it was at the gym next to Savemart and she said yes. So I drove to the same gym and when I got there the lady at the desk said she had nothing there for me and that she would check with her manager. The manager told her to have me to pull up the coupon that was sent to me and he would scan it so I could get my items. By this time I'm upset because I was not told I needed a coupon from the previous person who called me or Czerna. I came by just to pick up the bag and bottle of water since I was on my way home and had gotten the call to get it.
After having to call customer service so they could tell them to give me the bag and waiting for over 20 minutes since the lady had called the wrong gym, I was finally able to get it. I'm sending this feedback in hopes that maybe something could be done so that if that ever happened to someone else they wouldn't have to go through what I went through. Thank you in advance.
The customer service specialist (Tracy Grant Line) that I talked to was very friendly and knowledgeable regarding my issue. I was very pleased to have worked with her and as soon as my work load has decreased I would like to once again begin my training. I would highly recommend to any of my friends, the customer care that was offered today.
The personnel makes this club, from the manager, to the desk people to the lady tending the locker rooms on down. Always friendly and helpful, facility looks well kept. I only use the pool and locker room and can tell. Do not frequent any of your other locations.
Palmdale East - I was on the phone with operator Maynel and I have to tell you that she did such an amazing job! She really came through to help me deal with our situation. You have an amazing employee there!! Thank you Maynel!!! Great Job!!!

Extremely nice and professional and went the extra mile for me to please me and give me the best options about my situation. She should be a trainer for excellent customer service!! I love the incentives that In-Shape has in regards to checking in and getting things just for checking in and working out. I have been a member with another gym since 2000, but that gym is not out here in Tracy, where I live. There are no locations of that particular gym chain close by, so I chose to sign up with In-Shape since it was the one in town close to my home and work.
I enjoy the location I go to because it is always clean and not full of people (and that's probably because I work out around 5:30 to 6:00 a.m.). I go to the gym 6 days a week and there is always the cleaning person working and making sure the gym is clean for the day. There are plenty of machines at the location I go to, and I'm not usually having to wait or can't get on the machine of what I want to use. There are also free weights that I use as well. I use the sauna that they have in the male's locker room as well, and it has enough room to fit a good amount of people. I would definitely recommend this gym and my gym location to anyone in the Tracy area looking for a gym to work out at.
I enjoy going to In-Shape on Lincoln Rd. The staff is very professional and knowledgeable. Lots of trainers available for one on one training (if that's your thing). The equipment is kept clean and sanitized. The bathroom facilities, pool, sauna, tennis courts are all well kept up. They offer a variety of classes, which I like at various times (Cycling, Yoga, Zumba, Core Conditioning, etc). There's enough variety to keep you interested. No one bothers you. You can get in and out. I highly recommend this location and gym club.
I go to both the East and West side In-Shape Gyms. East side is closer to home, west side has a steam room that I Like to use. I attend the pool classes for the low impact exercise due to injuries. Sonia and Nikki are the best instructors.
West Lane Racquet Club - Areas of concern: Parking lot safety and auto burglaries. Lack of regular maintenance scheduling (has been an on-going issue over the years) which creates additional down times, restricted use, and member dissatisfaction - showers, steam room, etc. Employees are friendly and helpful. They go out of their way to assist or compensate members for less than adequate services. There is a disparity between how West Lane is serviced compared to Quail Lakes, Lincoln Village Marina, and Don Ave.
I spoke with Jina from customer service for my membership on the corporate telephone. Jina was kind, relatable and provided great customer service. Originally I was going to call and cancel due to not having any availability but Jina recommended putting my account on hold which was a great suggestion. I did not feel she was pushy about the choice at all which I really appreciated.
Tracy Blvd - Vanessa was the smartest one I talked to and gave me the right information about my membership and my personal training. The person before her gave me false information. Thank you again Vanessa for helping me. I don't know what I would have done without you. Someone should give her a raise.
Corp Office was nice about extending out my training sessions in Modesto Floyd In-Shape health club due to an injury to my left knee. Wish I remember the lady that assisted me on the phone from corporate office in Stockton. She should get a raise for excellent service. Thanks again for everything she did.
On 8/25/17 I spoke with Jina regarding a request for sponsorship made on 7/19/17. She was the third membership services person I spoke to to try to get a response. Jina was very helpful, contacted the appropriate team regarding my issue, and was the first to call me back when promised. I hope her intervention will result in my getting a final decision on my original request.
I commented favorably last month regarding my personal trainer Cameron and custodial worker Randy. Long time member at Mooney Blvd ISC in Visalia Ca., I have benefited grew my from my membership in reaching my PT goals. With the help and guidance of Cameron, my progress has excelled. In-Shape Health Clubs Bakersfield Coffee Road - Liz helped with a huge membership mix up that begin on July 19th with another associate. I had received a letter and a phone call from Corporate, asking to clear up the problem, and no one could help but Liz.
I couldn't be happier with my experience at In Shape. I was fortunate enough to get to work with Nicholas **, and will honestly miss the training I got. Further, everyone else I met there (Michelle and Nicole in particular) was incredibly kind and welcoming.
I have been a member for around 4 years and today Cindy from the call line really went above and beyond to fix an error in my membership fees from when I signed up originally. People like her are the reason I chose to come to InShape (Tracy Blvd). She really did listen to my concerns and helped clear up my confusion. I'm really glad she was so tolerant with me because I definitely had an attitude at first. Keep up the good work! Thanks for pushing through that call to help make sense of things for me.

Vallejo Lincoln Rd - I just want to thank Darla for explaining the personal training prices and what's available for me. She was very professional and helpful. My experience with In Shape employees have not been helpful. It seems like In Shape employees in different cities do not give you the correct information. I called corporate and reach Darla. She was very helpful.
To begin this facility is always muggy and hot. I've brought it to Corporate's attention a few times and the manager (Demaree location). It is also always dirty and unorganized. When equipment is broken it takes way too long to get it fixed. Staff really needs to do a better job at cleaning up since members can't use equipment and put it back. Bigger signage needs to be displayed about gym etiquette and being courteous to other gym members. Trainers need to lead by example. They train their clients and don't re-rack their weights or equipment that they use. I can go on and on. Please feel free to call me.
The best place to swim the indoor and outdoor pools. Great exercise class there in the pool at mornings. People's attending habits are gracious who work there. Clean changing rooms and showers. Trying to go 3x a week. Perfect for seniors in the mornings. Always clean towels. Thank You.
Staff is very welcoming and helpful. There is a variety of equipment which means we don't have to wait for long. The customer service rep Czerina was so helpful and very encouraging. I have had the chance to train with Veronica ** who is amazing and very supportive.
Palmdale East: I was very satisfied with the facility and upkeep of equipment. The personal trainers were great! I had issues with the pool not being open and a period where aqua classes weren't held or there was no instructor. I haven't continued working out for my own personal reasons.
Always advertise what members can win for different amount of visits. Like check in 5 times and win a bottle of water, check in 12 times and win a shirt. I am being going for 5 months straight and never seen getting anything. For me that's a false advertising. Thank you.
My experience has been nothing short of 5 star. The morning staff and support personnel are always on top of things and very helpful. I use Modesto McHenry facility 5-6 times a week. The early morning crew are awesome specifically Bill and JoAnn.
I love the number of aqua classes although variety in the morning is limited even if they call the class a different name. Locker room sanitation is hit and miss and management oversight seems lacking.
Staff not very friendly... Never a hello, goodbye, how are you nothing. Even the training staff can walk right by you and not even a smile. Too many young people that just walk around and play on their phones. Glorified baby sister.
Love this gym. I enjoy my time there. Most of the staff is super nice. All the different areas make the gym seem less packed. And there are tons of tennis courts. My only complaint is that the hours are really bad on weekends. The gym closes early on all the days I can stay longer.
I truly feel sorry for those who are only able to experience the lesser clubs in town. You have no idea what you are missing. Throughout the years I've belonged to many health clubs. There is absolutely nothing that compares to In-Shape! Great staff, friendly service! Best Club in Bakersfield!

Today I called corporate regarding my membership. I thought it would be a hassle, but Mary made it simple, easy & a lovely experience!! She was very kind & extremely professional. I would highly recommend Inshape to family & friends! Thank you Mary. :)
In-Shape Hanford California period for a very long time has embezzled members funding for annual maintenance fees of 29.99. They have failed to replace the equipment. They have failed to fix equipment. They have discriminated and been biased towards members and do not serve the interest to the members but serve their pockets financially.
Overall the club and staff is amazing. They greet you when arriving and wish you well on your way out. A few things I feel could be addressed: free weights being left out by members, the staff should do a floor sweep hourly to put the weights away, pick up towels and bottles left on the floor. This isn't a club issue as much as it is a lazy member issue. The locker room floor and bathrooms could use a good deep cleaning and lastly, the pool is cold. It's not just me, other members make comments when easing into the pool. We're told it's kept at 80 degrees, but when you keep the thermometer in the small water/ bucket area it is going to register at a higher temperature.
If I could give ** (Vallejo Lincoln Rd) 10 stars I would. She was not only prompt, courteous, and professional, but she answered the phone in the cutest way that it made me smile. I told her that I was old and it had been years since a woman with such a lovely voice spoke to me as wonderfully as she did. Thank you Vanessa for handling my account requests and explaining everything to me is the more efficient and effective way. Take care and have a wonderful day, and thanks again for making my day.
Prior to this, my experience with IS has been very good. Recently, the music volume has been so loud it's deafening and distracting. It interferes with any consultations and/or TV programs that are offered as entertainment. I've mentioned it to the front desk and have sent a note to the management and have had no response.
Even though a lot of the staff has changed since I joined, I still thoroughly enjoy my time there. Nancy deserves a huge employee appreciation act, she is PHENOMENAL. Connie is great as well! I can't wait to come back but 2 babies with another on the way & full time night shift makes it too difficult for right now. Thank you for being such a great business!

Very Happy with In-Shape. The Sereno Drive Location suits my focus on Weight Training, great equipment, well maintained, clean, dedicated staff, members who are serious about getting in shape. Love it!

Ridgecrest: I am dissatisfied with the policies regarding the grandfathered membership contracts. I would like to remove certain members on my account and feel that it is unfair to charge a new enrollment fee due to the memberships currently available. When I first started the gym a few years ago I had paid an enrollment fee as a new member. However, now that I would like to make changes to my account I was informed of the enrollment fee I would have to pay on top of a processing fee. After speaking to the corporate office a woman I spoke to gave me an option of a more reasonable fee to pay for the enrollment and offered to waive the processing fee. However, there is still an enrollment fee necessary to pay. After thinking it over, I will be canceling my gym contract. I would like to keep my gym membership for myself but I don't feel the current policies regarding my membership contract are fair to me.
Made brief contact with sales rep concerning my billing options... She (can't recall name) was extremely helpful & knowledgeable. She made me feel comfortable & relaxed. No pressure added... Great job. Thanks.
Ebony was super friendly and helpful with my problems regarding cancellation of my membership. She recommended alternatives for membership next time I am home for break when I am visiting my family. She was very understanding of my situation and resolved the issue efficiently.
My experience in the beginning with In Shape was horrible. I received via text message that my account had been cancelled. I called the number on the email which was PT corporate and talked to a girl there (can't remember her name). At no time did she try to solve the issue, never asked to verify any information or ID #'s on me, said the account had been set up for cancellation and all I could do was to go to Lodi club and re-fill out paper work all over again.
My entire account was messed up, no one from In-Shape even called to try to settle anything. You just cancelled my PT training without even talking to me. Amanda, the GM at Lodi that I talked to the next day was great and referred me to corporate. Darla at corporate is the person that actually took the time to solve my issue. Constantly kept informing me of what she was doing as she process and completed different steps in the process. I closed my account at another gym to start at In Shape so my first experience with the club was not a good one. Both Amanda and Darla were understanding of the issue and took whatever steps they could to settle the issue.
I enjoy working out at In Shape on Coffee Rd in Bakersfield CA. The staff is friendly and always greets every guests. Often too the staff will talk to you as a member, to see how things are going. They also ask if there any they can do anything to improve the gym. I have been to a couple of the other locations and I don't feel the same friendliness shown at the Coffee Rd location.
Great place to spend some time for me. Getting or trying to lose a little weight and get the regular exercise me as a senior need. I wish people would read the signs on the machines and wipe down after use. So many use and walk away. But all and all the staff is great.
I like it. There the temp is always comfortable. I can ask for help and get it if I want. Always greeted with a smile by the staff. The lady that does the change rooms floors always smiles and says hello. I like that the way to use the machines are printed on the machines themselves. Love that this facility has the spa on the outside so both men and women can use together. My favorite is the pool. Water is nice, Kids are not all splashy and if I don't want to see kids I can come when the pool is closed to them.
My experience was very pleasant, helpful and professional. It took less than 5 minutes to get help. Thank you for being accommodating with my membership while I recover from having surgery. Looking forward to my return. Thank you!
The gym and self is really good but I'm very disappointed in the fact that it's only an hour for child-care services at Palmdale East when in Bakersfield it's 2 hours. I don't believe that's enough time for you to do a good workout and with all the classes being anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour long that is just and not enough time so I would greatly appreciate it if you guys can make it 2 hours as well cause from what I seen they have enough people to manage Kids for 2 hours. I greatly appreciate your time and please if you can - do this. That will be awesome. Thank you.
I thank the staff and the personal trainers. I was able to get "in shape" before my gastric bypass which I believe led to a speedy recovery, and after the surgery the personal trainers assisted in me losing 100 pounds. I was 268 when I applied for the gastric bypass, on the day of my surgery I was 244, and one year after surgery I was 144. I have kept the weight off for 4 1/2 years. Unfortunately in these hard economic times I am forced to let my membership go. But this is one thing I will look to re-start if finances permit in the future.

Question was concerning my account. I'm having knee surgery and wanted to put my membership on hold for two months. She explained yes it would be done and I would receive an email confirming our phone call. She was pleasant, spoke clearly, friendly.
I want to share my 5 star customer service experience at the Salinas North East. My coworker (a new referral) and I approached the service desk and Tabatha ** was the young lady working that day. She was friendly, enthusiastic and appeared to be pleased in answering the questions we had. She made suggestions, but was not pushy on upgrades (I believe this is what made my friend consider it for next month). I also am likely to look into additional benefits. She addressed my friend's questions and ensured we had received all the information we needed. Sadly enough in the 4 yrs I been a member I have not received this level of quality service.
She is a great role model of what kind of customer service would make In Shape excel. As members we want to feel like we are welcomed, that our questions matter and that employees are there voluntarily and not just going through the day for the paycheck. I also want to give high praise to Ms. ** whom cleans in early mornings. She is dedicated, polite and efficient. She keeps the locker area amazingly clean. Management make sure to praise and recognize these employees. Remember that their behavior not only represents In Shape but also makes your job so much better and makes your leadership shine!

I have thoroughly enjoyed the InShape on Lincoln Road, Vallejo. It's gorgeous and the staff is friendly. It would be nice to have a member of member services available in the evenings. Also, I think it would be great if staff walked around the gym just to make sure people aren't going to hurt themselves by doing something incorrectly. The circuit training at this gym is awesome. But there are people who get on one machine and stay on it for 30-40 minutes. They're not using it as circuit training, which really does blow it for those of us who are using the circuit training. Thank you!
The lady who helped me over the phone working customer support was very helpful and nice. The club itself could use some TLC, there doesn't seem to be anyone making sure the club stays clean. Water bottles, towels, etc will be left on equipment for days without getting cleaned. Also the free weights and other gym equipment never gets put away making it hard to find when you want to use it. I think it would be a good idea to have someone walking around the gym keeping it tidy so it doesn't get as messy as it does.
Elizabeth did a great job handling my issue with the Stockton Quail Lakes club. I called in pretty upset and she was able to go above and beyond my expectations, calming me down and professionally taking care of my membership issue. Thank you!

I called a few weeks ago to cancel our memberships. We had no complaint with the club, just got involved in other activities and did not visit. We were using autopay. In July, one membership stopped but the second continued to charge. I called the toll free number and was told that my husband needed to call to cancel his. This made no sense as I had been a member since 1985, switched to In-Shape when they bought Spa Fitness. My husband had never contacted or had any dealings with In-Shape about his membership. I do understand protocol and called back when he was available. This representative was extremely helpful, gave me more detail than the first and clearly understood my concerns. She canceled his membership and requested a refund for the July charge. She did a great job. Sorry that I did not keep her name.

It was one of the best customer service interactions I have had in a long time and am very appreciative of her upbeat attitude, nice energy, and overall commitment to making sure all my questions/concerns were addressed. I've wanted to go to water aerobics for my health and weight for a long time but couldn't really afford it. We finally decided my health was more important and joined, and at $20 a month, with a 24 hour gym, pool, spa, sauna, tanning beds, TONS of equipment and MANY classes to go to, it's an awesome deal! I now go to water aerobics every day of the week (except weekends when there are none!) and I absolutely LOVE it! I ESPECIALLY love Joe's class... He is amazing! He knows what he's doing and works every muscle group. If you have injuries or problems with certain areas (knees, shoulders, etc) he comes to you and adjusts whatever we're doing so you'll get the most benefits without injuring yourself. He's encouraging, enthusiastic and funny and his classes are always packed! To end each class he does a mini meditation thing with facial yoga and positive thinking... It's wonderful! When I became a member many years ago I was going to different location. Once the location on Demaree in Visalia opened up next to my office, and they finished renovations, I immediately switched and started going here. I have been working out with my trainer, Kella, for about 2 years and also love her encouragement and motivation. All of the staff here are great and everything is kept clean and orderly. I'll be going here for many years to come.
I visited In-Shape about 6 times and other gyms as well, I kept coming back for the reasons of many bathrooms, space, clean, hospitable, Zumba Classes, nice atmosphere. I have also meet many new friends.
I want to start by saying, I enjoy the location and convenience of the hours at my local branch. The downfall to this location is the cleanliness of the woman's locker room area and the swimming pool. Not always the best.
I signed up with a personal trainer about a year ago because I decided to make a life change following the aftermath of some cancer surgeries. I was in a pretty weak condition and I had mobility issues. A job that is mainly sedentary certainly didn't help. At first I had a male trainer who, though quite friendly, didn't push me at all. When he left the gym, I got this little young thing, Brianna, as my trainer. At first I wasn't sure about her, but now I love her! She has helped me loosen up my joints. I can reach much higher than before! I can feel muscles where I never knew they existed.
She listens to me, pushes me just enough, and continually changes my routine as needed. I am much more comfortable with a female trainer than I would be with a male trainer. If you look at me, it doesn't appear that I even know what a gym is due to my pudginess. I never feel judged by Brianna. She always has a genuine smile and a good sense of humor. I plan on staying with her for a long time. I would recommend that other women take that step toward a life change. If you are in Salinas, sign up with Brianna.
Having ms for 29 years spin affords me the ability to expand my quality of life, Michele is excellent in broadening that experience in her class allowing self exploration in goals with achievement. Great class.
I truly enjoy having a trainer helping me with a my workouts. My trainer, Jomar, is very well educated and is able to apply his knowledge to my workout. He has given my specific workout that target those nasty areas we forget about. Jomar is great. I am sure all the other trainer at InShape have the knowledge and qualifications to help everyone better themselves.
In Shape on Holiday Lane in Fairfield really rocks. There's a family feel to the club. The personnel always are genuinely glad to see you and make sure your gym experience is the best. I especially like Diana, Jason, Corbin, and Eric. Also, the gym is kept very clean and the equipment well maintained. I would highly recommend this gym for experts and novice alike.
I signed up with In-Shape in Cathedral City, CA back in Sept 2015. I found out 3 weeks later I was pregnant and was put on immediate bed rest. I kept in touch with the Cathedral City gym through email and phone all through my pregnancy and even after. After giving birth I was told I had to undergo surgery for my heart. I contacted In-Shape and asked to be refunded for the 6 months I prepaid for the personal trainer. I was told to send in a note from my doctors office stating my condition. I did that within 3 days. June 5th I sent my letter into In-Shape. I have called almost every day to get the run around each time. No one can give me a straight answer.
They say when I paid I signed a contract that states all money is non refundable but yet the contract I signed states if due to medical issues funds can be refunded. I have spoken to Andrew ** and Even **. No one can help me. The only response I get is "WE ARE WAITING FOR A ANSWER" It has been 14 BUSINESS days since the letter was received and sent to accounting. I have been told every time "we are just waiting". I don't understand why they will not refund me my money due to my heart needing surgery and me being unable to work out.

I have been a member with In-Shape since 2013. My husband and I and my daughter have been paying on an old plan of almost 80 a month. My husband went in the cancel the membership because with three kids and two full-time jobs it's hard to get to the gym for so much money. It had been almost four month since we had gone. He talked to a consultant named Patty and she told him that we could resign on a month to month contract for 39.99 for both of us and extra &15 for my daughter. She also stated that the $99 processing fee would be waived since we have been a customer for so long and she was happy we decided not to cancel.
Unfortunately since my husband was not the first on the contract I needed to go in and verify the changes. I walked in the gym about three days later and when I talked to the manager he said that he had "never heard of anyone ever getting their fees waived" and that Patty was fired last week. I was a little upset cause he said I had to pay the processing fee $80 so that I could have a $39.99 membership. He was very rude and made me feel kinda stupid. Mind you. I am a teacher for a school district. He said he would be happy to change me back to my old memberships and refund my $80 but that was a stupid suggestion because he knew I wouldn't take that, who would. I almost feel like going and canceling my membership altogether. I think I was just in shock from how I was treated. Almost belittled and I had my daughter with me. There is always another gym.
I have been a member with my family at this location for almost 2 years. My 2 children are also members and go to the Kid Zone for childcare while I'm using the gym. I've seen in the last year that the cleanliness of this gym has gone downhill. Especially the Kid zone! My children's clothes and hands are always dirty after playing INSIDE in Kid zone. Which is obvious that they do not clean the play area. My daughter has told me before that kids have gone potty on the slide. This is disgusting. The kid zone has probably over 50 kids per day and even more during the summer. For as much as I pay for membership fees, they can at least clean and sanitize the kid area daily. Very disappointed and looking into going to another gym in town that has childcare with a CLEAN and SANITARY area that is safe for my children to play.
In-Shape has a friendly staff that always greets you and wishes you a good day. The gym itself is clean and machines are kept up. My trainer, Dominique ** is amazing and always pushing me further. I appreciate his knowledge and expertise and look forward to our workouts.
Hi. I've been going to the In Shape west gym for about two months now. I so enjoy the staff, very friendly and they are always willing to help if a problem or question arise. Sean is a very aware manager and his awesome attitude is very inspiring. The dressing areas are clean and organized... One problem which I feel can be fixed are the weight scales... Some are accurate and others are not. But I feel this could be a easy fix. Peace.
Horrible. I find it curious that the corporate headquarters fails to realize that the spectacularly moronic billing department completely negates ANY positive experiences that a member might have in any of the club locations. Instead of focusing on all their members' awareness of their rhumba class offerings, they really need to get their billing department's act together.
In Dec. 2013, my sister gave me the generous Christmas gift of a year-long membership with In Shape, which I put to relatively good use up until the last month or so before the membership was to expire. A considerable amount of time AFTER the membership was to expire, I went into the club and had my card scanned to make sure that my sister had not signed me up for another year. I was told that my membership had definitely expired. That was in Feb. 2015. On May 10th this year I received a letter telling me "we attempted to draft your monthly dues and were informed the "Funds were Denied"...."If no payment is received by the end of the month, then the full balance and next month's dues will be drafted on the 2nd of the following month. This may exceed 3 times your normal draft". Wow.
Had they been billing my sister for two years for a membership that I didn't even know I had? She assures me that is not the case. But in talking to the billing department, I was told that a membership "automatically renews". I know this is not the case with my membership, which was prepaid, and I had confirmed that the membership had expired. And why are they charging me the Golden Sneaker discount? Now they are attempting to bill me via email with a credit card number that doesn't even belong to me. I spoke to Maricela who was pleasant enough, but she definitely did not resolve the problem.
I use the pool at least 3-4 times per week and this past month it has been very poorly kept up. I see a lot of fine debris floating in the water and it constantly cloudy and dirt piled in corners and along sides on bottom of pool. For a while they were keeping it up pretty good. I normally rarely ever complain but it is getting so bad that I finally need to speak up. Management at that gym is useless. You mentioned something to them they don't even care. You call and ask question before driving out to find out status on pool the clerk at the desk doesn't have any knowledge. They answer "I don't know." What customer service is that...
Love the staff and Zumba classes. Especially the classes instructed by Alex. Only complaint I have is the locker rooms. Often, the girls' locker room is out of toilet paper and plastic bags, and the showers could be kept cleaner.
I enjoy the monthly giveaways as a member appreciation! I choose to attend their gyms over 24 hour fitness, even though, I've been a member of 24 when they first started out. So in my 17 years, they never show members any added appreciation, and only closed clubs, regardless of members attending that club or not! Members love to feel appreciated also, not like the club is doing them the favor of being open!
I love In-Shape. This place has a lot to offer a person that is just starting to workout, people who are trying to stay fit, and those who have been work out for a long time to continue to workout. I love the staff there. I just love In-Shape. Thank you.
If I could use one word to describe this specific location, I'd use marvelous. The staff always gives off the happy energetic vibe (at least the ones that are there when I go) you need when you're trying to talk yourself out of just another workout. The machines are always clean and there are usually a group of machines available UNLESS you go on a Monday when every single machine is taken by those who made bad food decisions (or drinking decisions) over the weekend. No judging here! Because I usually make bad food decisions every day. Anyway! This gym, this location AND the staff are incredible. Thank you!!!
I really enjoyed going to the gym, it's not one of the bigger ones which I like. Most of the staff is really friendly, they greet you with the hello most of the time. The main reason I keep going is mostly because of the training staff. My trainer is Christian. He's pretty awesome, the head trainer Nick is always supportive too!! The machines are always pretty much maintained and the gym is clean for the most part. Can't think of nothing really bad to say. I love my little neighborhood gym.
Myself and my husband use the gym regularly and are happy with the layout, classes offered and equipment. We have a few complaints. The locker rooms need cleaned more often and the facility always have problems with the steam room working.
We have had a great experience with In-Shape since we started. They provide child care for 2 hours in kids zone, personal trainer, a pool, and so many other features. My husband is handicap and they have been amazing in the amenities they provide to help his recovery. Even though they are expensive, I recommend this gym to everyone.
Great place to work out!! There are so many choices for classes and I have recently started doing Yoga!! It is so much fun!! In-Shape is a very clean establishment and that's important to me. I also really appreciate the desk staff that always greet me with a smile. Thanks In-Shape!!!
This critique is targeted at the Stockton, CA In-Shape corporate office, and not our local gym. Vacaville's In-Shape clubs are wonderful, especially our neighborhood club at Brown's Valley. Our complaint is directed at the billing errors In-Shape's Stockton office has made; namely charging our credit card for monthly dues after we'd already prepaid for the period starting 2-6-17 and ending 2-6-18. I had to spend hours on the phone in April in order for the Stockton office to refund $501.99 to a credit card we used for our 2016 prepaid contract. This meant that In-Shape corporate office retained our credit card data and then made unauthorized charges against it for this current PREPAID membership.
If that's not bad enough, we just received a bill today for $195.99 FOR THE SAME PREPAID MEMBERSHIP!!! We are livid, and ready to contact the Solano County District Attorney. We no longer trust the company to treat us fairly and respectfully. It is absolutely unacceptable that we have to keep contacting the Stockton office regarding this billing error. It begs the question; how many other customers are being double billed for prepaid yearly contracts? Considering the fact that In-Shape had to make restitution of $23 million last year for billing errors and other questionable membership practices, we are surprised that the Stockton office didn't ensure that they'd completely resolved their mistake when they refunded us the $501.99. Maybe this critique will help not just us, but other loyal customers who choose to pay for their membership once a year.
I had not been a member of a gym in many years because in the past when I did have a gym membership, I always found an excuse not to go and it always ended up being a waste of money. Rileigh ** convinced me to go in and just look around and so I did and I fell in love with the place because of the variety of things available. I love the exercise classes and the circuit training area.
The only class I do not like is spin and I have attended spin before and loved it. The spin class here and instructor is not very customer friendly, the bike hard to figure out. But overall I am thoroughly enjoying my membership. I see Rileigh almost every time I go in and she always checks on me. I have recommended this place to all my Facebook friends and coworkers!!!
The women who work in kid care are all amazing. We miss Elizabeth terribly and can't wait for her to return. Aimee and Dawn are so sweet and caring with my children. I love how they do coloring and activities with them. The ladies at the front desk always greet me with a smile. My only complaint is for the Diamond Club. I expect a few differences than the other clubs. I would love to see kid care open on Sundays for a few hours. I would also love to see easier kid care hours, e.g. 8-12, 2-8. Most kids are winding down for bed by 8 pm. The machines are always repaired quickly.
Kiota had called the corporate office and came to a helpful negotiation with them for us. I was very pleased that she was able to help get some of our funds back for us. I am upgrading the stars for her cust. service. We are on a very tight budget and things are hard to come by.
We signed up for In-Shape and we asked them if they were a part of Silver Sneakers. We are both disabled. We asked the person we signed up with, personal trainers, staff, etc. We even asked if they would let us know when it would be available. Our membership was free under this. They charged us under fraud for 2 years because we found out they DID accept it! We canceled them and they asked us to pay another 30 days. We stopped payment and they even tried to change their name 2x on the routing # to access my account! How dare them!! They owe me money!!
When I signed up for the Personal Training Sessions, it was made very clear that canceling would be very simple. I knew that I was going to be moving, and it was very important that I would not be charged once I canceled. Four months later I'm still getting charged and I'm not even a member of the gym. When I called to get this taken care of, I was informed that I need to show proof that I moved in the form of change of address to stop the payments. I was informed that once I show proof, I will still be charged for canceling. Customer service was not helpful, because they don't have enough authority to assist in the matter. This is ridiculous, and a scam!
Now resolved but the whole situation did not have to happen if their data clerks would have done a better job
I e-mailed In-Shape in February to cancel my wife and I memberships. I noticed for the last four months money being deducted from my bank account from In-Shape for dues? When I called this morning to find out why the lady had me on hold for over 20 minutes said they had canceled my membership but did not follow through on my wife's? I wanted to rejoin In-Shape in a few months after my knee replacement but now I'm not sure how In-Shape values its members.
Customers beware, staff will misinform you and try to overcharge your bank account. When you call them out on this they will say sorry, but that they can't give you your money back but will credit your account for a future bill. When you tell them what you are looking for they will tell you no problem, but beware, everything is asked about they said no problem and none of it was true. Basically they will charge you for a service they won't provide, then give you the run around with no one actually doing anything. This is my latest email but don't believe anything will come of it, they only care about $ not if they're really providing you with good customer care.
In-Shape has been attempting to collect monthly fees after the contract had expired. I have not been there in over a year, that's over $600 in fees for something I never used. And they are still trying to debit my bank account every month. This has got to be illegal, fraudulent activity. Do not do business with this sham of a Health Club!
This gym is really unsafe (Vallejo, Ca Sereno Drive Location). So many robberies & break-ins. I’ve witness this and heard mean stories from other members and employees at front desk… I believe something needs to be done. They need a security guard and better lighting. There is NO lights in the parking lot. There are so many homeless people sitting outside and around the facility even people just smoking weed. There are a lot of people just sitting in their cars even campers that are there everyday I go... I feel really unsafe walking to my car and parking my car in the parking lot. I am almost ready to cancel my membership and go to a safer location with better lighting and possibly security. I hope something can be done. I love this gym and don’t want to leave but my safety is more important.
I use to like to come here to the Victorville In-Shape because of a certain employee who no longer works the front desk. She was so kind, always saying hello with a name attached to it, but she moved up and my rating is based on the number of times since then coming in this gym. It is sad that not one person acknowledges you with a hello. So many times, it is co-workers talking to one another about meaningless things, not lifting their heads to say a few simple words like "hello", "how are you", "have a great workout" or "have a nice day". How rude is that and at times I just want to walk out because of the constant ignorance from the staff.
In every business, customer service starts at the moment you walk into the establishment. Mother Teresa once said, "Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless." So many different people work at the front desk, but kind words don't cost money to speak and you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar, and positive words help both the speaker and the person who hears it. You never know what kind of day they are having and it only takes a few words to help their day get better. My goodness, what does it take to stop being so rude?
Another reason I am rating it so low is that I have been hurt in this gym in the last couple of weeks. The first time I was hurt, the staff attended to me, wrote up an incident report but when I asked for ice there was none. In every situation, there should an abundance of ice available no matter how big or small the accident. Just last Sunday, I was hurt again with a racquetball and when I went up front I asked for some ice and the girl says there is none and I asked "why?" She was rude and couldn't give a decent answer and didn't bother to ask me if I was okay. I walked away upset and I think in customer service, you have a unique opportunity to be kind to a variety of people that might be upset or stressed out. By using the right opportunity to speak positive words and phrases into your conversations with everyone can really boost their day.
What a shame. Friday December 2, 2016, when I left the gym in the morning the wet sauna was working. I was away from In-Shape for a whole week. As I returned to the gym this morning Monday Dec 12th, guess what, the wet sauna was temporary closed again and a worker was mopping it. He also said it was broken again. Other members told me that on Wednesday Dec 7th, someone had placed a towel where the steam comes out of the pipes inside the wet sauna. He described this person as a ** complected male. Seriously the rules need to be posted in other languages. It is not fair for the ** people to follow rules posted in English when there is no other rules posted for non-English speakers. This is my second complaint to In-Shape Corporate office, I feel that this complaint should be sent again including first letter that was written and sent on November 28, 2016. This makes it the 5th time in 6 months.
As a member of In-Shape located at 285 California St. Woodland, CA, I enjoy my workouts, the classes, pool, wet sauna, hot tub and the staff are very pleasant to be around. My routine has been working out in the mornings, and then returning later in the afternoon, four days a week twice a day. In the five months that my husband and I have been there and have clearly read the rules, I have notice that most of the members do not follow them. I myself had to tell 3 other members not to pour water onto the thermostat in the wet sauna, most of them were Hispanic. I feel if the rules were placed in Spanish and other languages maybe more members would take the time to read them. Also, in these last five months, the Wet Sauna has been closed due to repairs, the first being, to repair the grout, that took about 4 days (meaning wet sauna being closed). The next two times was because of the thermostat being broken. In those times, the wet sauna was closed again for a few days.
On Tuesday Nov, 15, the wet sauna was working that morning and that afternoon when we left. On Wed, 16th, the next day it was temporarily closed, reason ? thermostat again. For the weeks that it was temporary closed, the door was propped open. On Tuesday Nov 22 and Wednesday the 23, during my morning workout, I observed a ** male employee who looked to be the maintenance man walking around the gym with a male child following him. He was going to and from the pool area and into some maintenance closets, absolutely nothing was done with the wet sauna. This is the same man who was there to fix the sauna on the Nov. 28th, in the mid-morning. When we returned in the afternoon the wet sauna was working. The problem there, no one bothered to cleaned it. It smelt of mold, as well the hot tub water was green and it smelt like wet towels and it seems that there is only one worker who takes care of those amenities.
The saunas, pool and hot tub are not closely monitored. There is a male Hispanic man who works out on the exercise machines when we go in the afternoons. He wears black & green clothing, when he is done working out, he comes into the pool area, in his sweaty workout clothes, without showering and gets into the hot tub, then jumps into the pool and then into the wet sauna. He is loud, rude and takes up anyone's else space. He has no respect for elders in the pool. I have seen many other members not following the rules as in wearing street clothes and street shoes into the saunas, using electronics and some even exercise inside of the sauna. I do appreciate this gym, my workouts and its location, although I am not happy with the conditions of the sauna and how it breaks down on a monthly basis. I am not sure if I want to continue my workouts at this gym if this continues to be a problem and not properly taken seriously.
The gym is only cleaned by one mexican guy there at this location. He is very nice. He is always working and doing his job. The women's bathroom shower is always disgusting period. I would never shower there again. The staff stands around and talks entirely too much. The personal trainers have no idea what they are doing. I have observe them all. I would never pay them actual money. That's a joke! Amanda the so-called district manager is very unprofessional. She is never prepare, she doesn't remember people names and she is very rude.The staff never knows where she is located. She also lies to your face. Who hired her? Clearly they need to rethink her being there. Because of her is the main reason why my family is leaving and telling as many people that we can about our experience. The corporate office needs to replace her period.
My family and I will be leaving this horrible gym soon. The perks are laughable. Their spinning wheel is actually just sitting in this one women's office every day all day. The sad thing is she is the worst one from the staff. She looks disgusting every time I see her. She really need to lead by example and use the actual machines. The customer service is just horrible. Why hasn't corporate taken action. By the way my family reach out to corporate. They aren't doing anything about. It's just fine. A new gym by the name of planet fitness is opening up across the street from my home in visalia so the joke is on In-Shape. They are going to be losing a lot of customers so in the end I'm fine with that.
I enjoy going to my Aqua Zumba class on Saturdays in Victorville, Ca. In-Shape. On two occasions now, when I arrive to class, it has been canceled due to the pool being dirty. They were aware of it the night before. It would have been nice if they had posted on their website, that the pool would be closed, so we wouldn't have had to make that drive. The attitude at the front desk is, "Oh well sorry". Also, the pool in Palmdale, Ca is closed today.
I joined In-Shape gym 1 year ago. Since joining I had many issues with this gym. The staff is very rude. When you sign in they are too busy having personal conversations on a daily basis. I always had to interrupt to get a towel. Most of the time towels were not available. They claimed they were in wash. Another major issue was wandering children. I have seen kids sleep in the lobby with no adult while I assume parents were working out and left children to sit in lobby. Children wander whole gym all the time. It's a day care but it seems they don't go or are supervised properly. I also came in for a friend to get a free pass on several occasions and every time we were asked to wait for over 20 minutes, each time staff was just wandering around not doing anything. On one occasion I came in and the young lady asked my friend if he wanted on my membership. Shouldn't she have been asking me that since I was the member.
I brought it to her attention and she was very snobby and ignored me altogether. All my friend wanted was a pass. The staff is very unprofessional and rude and disrespectful. Male staff always wander in the cardiovascular room and stare at the women from behind. It's very uncomfortable to be stared at sexually when working out. Not okay. The male staff were never cleaning just staring at all the women from behind. It was never any reason for them to be in the room but everyday they are watching TV and staring at women instead of doing their jobs. The shower room is nasty... always towels on floor and broken shower heads. Lockers were broken on several occasions and not fixed as well. The list goes on with complaints about this Tracy gym. It is not worth $60 a month and I don't suggest you attend this gym. It is horrible and people are so rude there.
I would not recommend this gym to anyone. I also had membership issues in the beginning. They kept saying it was a computer glitch and they would put me on the right contract. I requested but that never happened. The staff turn around is constant which is another issue because no one knows what's going on and has to ask someone else. Do not attend this gym. It is a rip off and looks can be deceiving. The pool was broke for weeks at a time and the hot tub... it was always yellow tape around it so it could never be used. Staff kept telling me it would be open soon but that never happened either. When you complain about the conditions you are told Chuck the manager is never available and always in a meeting which I know wasn't true either. I never did meet Chuck if he was even in the building which I doubt.
Maintenance is not a top priority in this particular establishment whether it's equipment or cleanliness. In the men's shower rooms the silver baskets that hold your trunks or shampoo bottle have not been replaced nor have the soap dispensers been fixed in two of the shower stalls. The appliance that gyrates swimming trunks off their moisture does not work. We're on the third week with this problem.
Epic fail to your members! I have been a member for over 7 years. The cut backs and management changes are a joke. For the price of membership you would think they would have house keeping and clean facilities. In the last 2 months American Canyon and Vallejo clubs have had minimal classes to take! No spin!!! The only instructor with any personality is Jasmine, and she is hardly there anymore. In-Shape you have gotten too greedy and you have forgotten to think of your members. Would caution anyone looking into In-Shape clubs. Look for smaller non corporate gym to go to.
I have noticed over the last 3 years that there is no one cleaning the gym at In-Shape in Concord. In the cardio room the exposed pipes and ceiling fans have about a 1/2 inch of black dust on them. In another room there is black mold on the HVAC pipes. I have asked the manager about cleaning them but nothing is ever done. I thought going to the gym was to get healthy but here at In-Shape in Concord I worry about my health. Can't something be done to force them to clean this mess?
I have had a membership with In-Shape through AARP (United Health Care) for approximately 8 years. This year, 20l6, I had been gone for a while due to illness and decided to return. At that time, I signed up for a personal trainer, being assured I could cancel this at any time. After one month, i.e. February 20l6, I decided to cancel. I talked to In-Shape locally and they said I had to talk with Corporate. I attempted to reach them 10 times, always put on hold, the last time being one and one-half hours. So, I forwarded 8 postcards to addresses in Stockton, which were furnished on website. Since then, they have continued billing my account for $82.50 per month. I changed my debit card. Somehow they were able to obtain new card and/or checking account number and have continued billing me. I have emailed them on many occasions, have talked with AARP and am asking an attorney to write a letter on my behalf.
I am asking my account with them for personal training be closed and, in addition, I am asking for a refund for months of Feb, March, April and May 2016, each in amount of $82.50, i.e. $330.00. In addition, if my request is not granted within 10 days from date Attorney wrote letter, I will request a bit more money for elder abuse, stress and now, unfortunately, I will have to leave Union Bank in order to no longer be charged the $82.50 per month. I have been with Union Bank for 30 years. I feel In-Shape is a scam, it has become dirty, and they prey on senior citizens. I had my training from Nicole, who was great. She was aware that I had cancelled the service, so how can they say I had not cancelled and, in addition, said they refused my cancellation. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME on you, In-Shape.
Back in February of 2015 I had added my ex-girlfriend to my account. There was some issue with the computer the representative was using and it was giving him a hard time adding her to my account so he had us sit at another desk and helped us get my ex added on my account. Something happened during that desk change and there was a separate account created for her and at the same time she was added to my account. I signed the endorsement request and paid the 25 dollars to add her. I also signed a form showing my new payments of 64 and change a month. I did not notice it at first but I was being charged twice from my account for her. I used to pay 36 for myself. It went up to 64 with her and at the same time I was being charged 64, I was also being charged a separate 36 dollars a month. When I first saw it I went to the local Victorville gym. I was advised it was just a service fee once a year so I didn't think much of it.
I noticed it again after a few months and went back. The rep said he did not see a duplicate transaction on my account and that it could have been the yearly service fee. There was no way they would see the duplicate payment because there was a separate account for her. Months pass and I split with my ex. I go and take her off my account. My payment goes back to 36 but I always get a separate charge of 36 on the exact day of the month. This time I go back a few months on my bank statement and see they have been charging me twice for her even after I took her off. I go back to the Victorville location and submit bank statements. I was advised by the manager that it would get forwarded to corporate for review for a refund. A week passes by so I call for an update. The manager says she still has not heard anything from corporate regarding my refund and to give it a few more days.
I call after a week and still the same answer. I call corporate another week apart and they tell me that no request for a refund was ever requested on my account and never got my copies of the bank statement. The rep I spoke to on the phone advised me to email them to corporate. I email the verifications and give them time to work on it since it was already about closing time for them. 2 days later I call and they say they can't find the email I email to a different rep. I give it a few more days and call back and a rep tells me that my refund is in process and pending approval. I verified my mail was correct so I can get it in time. Turns out they had some issue with verifying the address on file and never called me to let me know.
Then the rep tells me the check might be under my ex's name. I ask why if the account being charged was mine. She says she cannot say for sure it will be under her name or mine but she did notate it on the system to make sure I will get my refund under my name to my address. It's going over 2 months now and they haven't been able to resolve my issue. I would hate to wait for the refund to get here only to find out I can't cash it since it is under her name.
I have been a member of In-Shape for at least 9 years, in Visalia now in Modesto. Now I am a SilverSneakers Member. Received a free few minutes with a trainer, spent time with THEM, shared that I now had osteoporosis so really needed to work out correctly. I was very clear with them that I might work with them a few times but under no circumstance would I sign a contract that locked me into a period of time. They talked and talked and then came to an agreement as to a cost for a session. When they gave me the Papers I again said no time period contract. Of course they assured me that wasn't what I was signing.
Stupid Me. Then when I said I could not afford to do any more sessions I was told to call corporate to cancel. Then told by corporate I could not get out of it. I had signed a contract for a year. All the time these trainers are saying "just let us be your bestfriend and help you". Now I will pay $120.00 to get out of a contract I could not afford in the first place. Shame on you IN-SHAPE.
I am not writing this as a jaded customer... although I should be. Hope this helps someone make a wise decision for themselves - to sign or not to sign on the dotted line. 1 star. Zero stars, actually. I have had a gym membership at other places for the totality of my life and know how it goes. It is easy to get into once you pay or they have your card #, you put up with crap and indifference as a member and then it is expensive and near impossible to get out. In a nutshell. This place takes it to a new level. If I can help just one person to avoid In-Shape, this is worth my time in writing. You will be promised the moon and Sun to join here. Money enters system. You are left in the cold. False promises - child care, nutrition plan, juice bar, perks. Right.
We have been members at an exclusive "Diamond Club" for several months. (2 people) Several months of hell. This club is no longer a Diamond club, it is a Platinum now and we have no recourse via Corporate to have our prices come down at all. No notice, no letter, no nothing of the change. No idea why this happened. That is one thing... We pay over $600 for training sessions each twice a week including our membership. Crazy. Maybe OK if we got what we pay for but no. The personal training sessions have been an on-going nightmare. We are always on time, ready to go. Trainers have not been. Late, no shows, every excuse in the book to reschedule, changing times permanently to fit their lifestyles of eating, working out, homework, their friends and napping.
Being nice and understanding does not help in this situation. It just breeds frustration. I am missing sessions, management cares about nothing except getting your money and Corporate has a bunch of trained expressions they feed you geared to make you go away. We joined to have our goals met and it is hard when we cannot even train when scheduled. This is the era of the entitled 20 year olds running things? I cannot wait to try and burn through my remaining training sessions and be done with this place. If feels like an Underworld going on here... just like organized crime. Legal robbery. We feel so ripped off and I would tell anyone to steer clear. Staff walks around working out, deflecting members' complaints with excuses and being on their cell phones.
I could write 8 pages on everything we have been through here but this would just be too long of a review. Just be aware of other issues other than rip off-syndrome such as bacterial infections where members reportedly required medical treatment from the gym towels and hot tub. I am praying we can get out of this at the end clean and somewhat unscathed. Will cancel the card with the bank just to be sure! Watch your online banking and credit card statements for extra charges you have not authorized!
I joined In-Shape Health Club in Tracy, CA July 2015. First thing I did not authorize auto payment. I told the salesperson I wanted to pay by check monthly. She agreed to my terms. Then I noticed the withdrawals were being made automatically. They even accepted a check payment from my first month after joining! After a while I found that the club was terribly managed and ran by teenagers! Children in the pool without parent supervision all the time! I was told I could change the contract any time or cancel.
I called corporate to downgrade my contract and they said they would charge a $79 fee for changing the contract. I asked to waive the fee since I was a member and was willing to stay one. They denied my request. So I asked if there was a fee to cancel. They said no. So I canceled my contract. They didn't even try to keep me by making me an offer. Terrible business people. Highly recommend you look elsewhere for health and fitness training facility. Do not join In-Shape Health Clubs.
On August 2015, I joined the club on a monthly basis because I had the possibility to leave town (which I did for 3 months) as told Jeff membership manager. He advised me to take my free session with the private trainer; he showed me the machines for 1/2 hour and back to his office where he kept his sales speech. I kept telling him several times that I ONLY needed for around 6 or so. He started to get some paper out to sign for me which I did TRUSTING HIM AS A MEMBER OF THE CLUB. He NEVER EVER mentioned months or when I asked him cancellation he said: "just come to me and we cancel it at any time." Next day I found out the the #9 was not sessions as I thought, were MONTHS which he NEVER mentioned. What a 'SNEAKY/DISHONEST ' tactics. I just called the club and no 'APOLOGY' at all. Costed me the 20% fee of the total. $160.00 SHAME ON THEM!!!
My daughter who is fresh out of high school went in and thought she was only getting a month to month membership. Was fooled. The salesman knew he had a young inexperience girl advantage of her and took advantage of her. We are talking about the In-Shape visalia off goshen and demaree. Also when I call the girl at the desk was very rude and didn't care.
Warning! Don't sign up with this gym. Their sales staff will make you promises that the company won't honor. They are the most expensive in Bakersfield and they will rip you off! They are quick to take your money and I'm still waiting on a refund after canceling several weeks ago. Facts: I paid several hundred dollars to get started using a trainer. After a few sessions they stopped allowing a trainer claiming that even though the money was taken out of my bank account (that same day) that they would not allow me to continue using the training service I paid for because of issues on their end, so I canceled on the 15th of last month.
They have had every excuse in the world not to refund. (1) It takes them two weeks to even issue a check. (Why not electronic deposit it back directly in the same account they immediately withdrew it from?) (2) I was told a check was mailed on the October 2nd, (7 days ago) and I still have not received the check. I just contacted them and was told by (Vanessa) that she does not work for the post office and I wasn't allowed to speak with management directly. She said my only option was to wait two more weeks from next Tuesday (Oct 13th) and she will submit another request for a check that will take another two weeks to get approved. (They must really be hurting for money!) Go anywhere else but this gym or you will regret it!
I have been a member unfortunately for eight months now at the Manteca location. This place is a joke. The woman's locker is dirty. The pool always has loud obnoxious kids whose parents aren't even in the pool with them. When I wanted to sign up for the child care center they wanted a $49 service charge. I can't wait till my membership ends. This place rips people off and only care about money in their pockets.
In-Shape in Lompoc, nice place. The membership options were presented in handwriting to me. During this meeting, I had to write these options down in a legible contract format. Also, the contract conditions and the cancellation fees were not presented at all. Looking online, In-Shape's cancellation policy is costly! Also, can they legally re-process credit card payments using their expiration date update program? In-Shape can still charge even when their facility is down. And In-Shape makes the cancellation decision if you move, not you. Yuck. I hope people review the cancellation policy and note the non-standard membership dues when considering membership.
BEWARE! I have chronic back problems and I have had several back and neck surgeries. I've been in the recuperating stage for several years as well as on pain management and in the midst of things I have gain lots of weight. I was tired of the weight gain and pain, so I thought I would check IN-SHAPE out. I explain to them my health conditions and told them I wanted to try things out to see if my body can take the workout. I also ask if I could speak to someone who is an expert to assist me, so I would know what types of exercise or equipment that could help or hurt me. Someone who could guide me correctly during my trial period. I was informed by several employees (manager, trainer, and other staff members) that there was no problem and I can cancel anytime and they understood the conditions and was aware that my health might not allow me to participate and yet reassured me several times I could cancel.
I signed up on 4/28 and started on 5/6 and canceled on 5/18 and I was told it will be canceled. However on 6/2/15 IN-SHAPE took out of my account $70.00, $41.99, plus I was charged overdraft in the amount of $34.99, which I wasn't expecting them to take anything out of my account that I canceled and I only had enough to pay my bill. I went to the gym and talked to the manager and explain that money was taken out of my account and I was told they will take care of it. I also spoke to the corporate office, supposedly the owner and still nothing happened. I explain to these people my medical condition and also that I was not aware that I was signing a contract. They told me the paperwork was so they can keep up the potential customers and can keep count. If they had told me it was a contract then I would have explain to them that I can't sign contracts, that I have a disability. BEWARE!
I was told I would owe 56 per month. When the amount was taken from my account (mandatory) it was 61.99. I'm quite upset and will call corporate in the morning. In-Shape is the only game in town here in Tracy as well.
When I signed up I was told there would be a pool and tennis lessons and there is neither and they never told me I was singing a 12 month contract!
Merced only has In-Shape. The company bought all the gyms. We hoped for improvement. Immediately the indoor pool closed like 8 months. They never updated or told members why, when or who... just moved us in the cold, to outdoor pool... said "Hey, drive to Atwater 15 min away if you want indoor pool." Ridiculous behaviour. The girl at desk... most are clueless. They never update classes on site. We show up for water aerobics and end up with someone who couldn't teach a water aerobic class if her life depended on it. Like really? You want her to represent In-Shape? We ask that the pool be at 82 as contract states, we do well to get 75 once in awhile. The pool could have ice cubes, they'd tell you it's 82 or whatever degree you tell them it should be... Maybe the pool is calibrated 10 degrees minus? You complain it is colder. It's indoors. How hard can it be? Some of us only use the pool.
General Manager, she blows you off... Must be nice to feel no consequences to your actions. People complain constantly, but since they are a monopoly we put up with it. Most using pool do so for health issues. It would be nice to feel confident it will be warm, and clean for classes. Instead razors are found, hairballs floating for days until one of us ask "Please" to have someone clean pool. Jacuzzi has crap on sides of wall... come on... There are toe nail clipping in pool area for a whole week until one person asked for a broom and dust pan.
Ok, so you are forewarned... Join knowing they don't give a **. The instructors are great, excluding sub... but In-Shape requires instructors to find their own sub with no quality control. What can I say? I'm surprised they haven't had a class action suit. Post temperature on digital thermometer for all to see... yeah right.
I told that IN SHAPE was going to have Jiu jitsu classes and cross fit in December of 2013 by a person named **. She is the one who I signed the IN SHAPE contract. They still don’t have the classes and I’m stuck in the contract until December 2016. Why are they doing sales pitches if they can't honor what they tell clients? Also when you’re working out the personal trainers are hovering around like vultures trying to drum up business. I quit going because I don’t like being approached and pressured by the personal trainers. I’m stuck with the expense and waiting for the contract to expire.
Palmdale West location: I received an email for a free trainer session & I thought what the heck, I have a bad back. Maybe they can show me how to be careful. So of course after the session I sat down with the trainer and his manager (Josh). Josh kept pushing personal training on me. I told him I needed to talk to my husband first and I'd let him know the next day. He talked me into at least filling the paperwork out. Not even 2 hours later I called him and told him my husband didn't think it was a good idea to spend $269 a month and I wasn't going to do it (especially at the time it was November… holidays coming up).
Shame on me for filling out any paperwork in the first place because even though Josh assured me he'd wait several days later I receive a notification from my bank that I'm overdrawn. So I called Josh immediately and he told me “Oh no problem. It will take 7-10 business days and it will be taken care of & you will be fully refunded.” That was Nov. 26th 2014.
On Dec 22nd I received a partial reimbursement for $169.00 and to this day (1/27/15), I am STILL calling regularly to find out where the remainder of my money is. I've spoken not only to Josh SEVERAL times but to the manager Mike ** SEVERAL times and every time I get the "Ok we'll look into it and call you back" and I NEVER have received a call from them. Their customer service is horrible & they are ripping people off left and right. This company should be ashamed!!
I'm making a complaint against In-Shape because when I signed up with them I didn't have my credit card info. with me so they told me that it was okay to have my fees taken out of my daughter's account until I change it over. So now I go down to have them stop taking payments out of my daughter account, I bring in the information they ask for which is my account and routing number, they gave me a form to fill out, I did all of that. So the following month they went back into my daughter's account and tried to get payment for my dues, which made her bank account overdrawn by 38 dollars. Then they went again, made it overdrawn again. Went back the third time, got payment. A few weeks later went back into her account and tried to get the yearly fee and same thing again, overdrawn her account. This is not right. They have no business going in her account trying to get my payments because I did everything they asked for to get off her account. And when I go in to talk to someone they act like they're doing something about it but don't.

My husband and I live in North Carolina. On 12/14/2014 we notice a $500.00 credit card charge by in-shape health, Brentwood, CA. What the **? We never even heard of this place. Can't figure how they got my info.
I was told when I signed up for In Shape fitness that I would only pay monthly and if I did not pay I would be automatically canceled. They also assured me that before any payments made through my credit card, they would inform me for charges. I trusted them. What an idiot I was. I only used the membership for one month. They kept billing me. I canceled my credit card. Now I get notices after 4 months that the charges have accrued and need to pay 200 to cancel. Otherwise they will take it to collections. They are crooks. Their policy is to get your credit card information right away so they can keep billing you. Now they want me to send them a registered letter to cancel and that take 30 days after they receive it. I cannot believe this. I am very pissed off with the setup of them. I tried to call but they said their service is down. I see them opening centers all over. Now I see how they're doing it. If you join make sure you read the contract really good. Don't listen to the personnel. They will tell you anything to get your card number. I know when I signed up with them. I did not receive anything saying they would be billing me monthly without my consent.
I had complained several times to management about the unclean pool and Jacuzzi i.e. murky water, floating brown stuff and black scum around the Jacuzzi. After two weeks of water workouts I developed Mastitis in my left breast which is a bacteria that entered into my nipple along with Tinea Corpris- Fungi (ringworm) caused by pool surfaces. After 10 days of medication, a very painful breast and high temperatures, I recovered. Management will not return my phone calls or emails to compensate me for my medical bills, pain and suffering. I have no choice but to contact my lawyer. I highly suggest that everyone stays out of the water.
I have only been a member since August 2015. Someone (another female member most likely) went into my locker in the women's locker room, took my DL & car keys, then stole my car on Thursday night 10/2/14. I feel completely stupid for leaving the locker unlocked after I took another towel out. The staff did nothing; didn't ask anyone if they saw anything, didn't check the locker room, didn't look around outside with me (8pm) and most importantly, have not reviewed the security camera footage even now. They just gave me an Incident report to complete and said the manager would call in the morning. No one ever called!
The Vallejo PD came right away but none of the staff could show him the video; said only a manager could do that. The next morning, Friday I finally got a District Manager from the Lincoln rd facility to agree to go there & review the video. Hours later he said, "I'll have to get my IT person in here, I can't get the video to run". I am really disappointed they are not showing any willingness to cooperate & help with this, I really hope the police will get the video from them. I would think the staff would be eager to review this video, unless they are covering for someone. I don't want to attend a facility with criminals. I will certainly miss the Cycling group.
For the first month, my family got towels on request when we used In-Shape. The day we joined, the salesgirl told us where to get towels and no charge was mentioned. After the first month, I asked for a towel and was told I would have to sign up for a "towel fee," eight dollars a month. Nowhere in the contract does it say this and I asked another member, who said she gets towels without charge. If they don't like you, they screw with you like that. Another day, my kids went to the place and a stupid ** named Jasmine turned them away, said their parents had to accompany them. She was wrong, stupidly wrong and her manager set her straight. She was unapologetic and she was on duty when I was told about the towel charge. Beware of Jasmine, the silly git.
I joined In-Shape in West Manteca. Was there maybe 3 months and got a sore on my chest. Went to the dr and was told it was MRSA and that I had gotten it from using the same towel to clean the machines that everyone else does at In-Shape... I have been battling it ever since and I will have to deal with that for the rest of my life!! I joined to get healthy instead I got a lifetime disease! I never went back but yet paid my monthly 20.00 for the year I signed up for. I went in July 28 and filled out my paperwork for my 30-day notice to quit. The manager Vince even signed it and they are still taking that 20.00 a month out of my account two months later. I have spoken to Vince twice and he swears he will get it taken care of yet nothing has and my money has not been refunded... I am so done at this point.
I went into the Porterville In Shape right at a year ago to inquire about memberships for us. Your team does a GREAT job on closing the sale, however, your after sale customer service is truly broken! If I had been told the gym was going to go through a complete remodel AND stay open, I would have held off on joining. What a mess! The last time we went to work out, most areas were under construction, machines on top of each other with people working out on them, I was done, this is not what I signed up for. We were given several training sessions as part of our contract. We showed up to a no call no show of the person twice that is broken. I discussed my concerns with the local mgt and staff with no follow through.
I emailed on several occasions to what I believed was your Corporate Office, no response. I have heard nothing from your team for months, BUT, I did just get a bill in the mail, I guess when I signed up and paid in full for two memberships, the time is up. So, I called your Stockton office and spoke to a Daila, who was no help. What I loved the most was asking to speak to a District Manager, someone who I would hope would have a vested interest in the companies practices. I was told I should go back to the gym and speak to the mgt there due to they may be different. As I was discussing my concerns and frustration with her, I hear music, I was put on hold without any communication just put on hold, I hung up. It was a perfect example of how you have used me as a customer for a year now.
She did call back and leave a message claiming she did not know what happen, which is false, you are the one who put the phone on music.... I want resolution to this. I gave you over $800.00 in advance not to work out in chaos while you were a greedy company and continued to stay open 24 hours a day to make the remodel extend months beyond versus if it was done correctly like most companies and been quick. I want to work out, but this has been a huge mistake on your part and reading the other concerns below and knowing they are only a moment in time, I am confident in my frustration with your company. You do realize, you are a people business.... If we do not show up, you do not exist.... You have wasted a lot of my time locally and on the phone and online and yet you have not fixed the issue.
I expect a call back not from the local store manager, but someone who can fix this. I want to know why your company would not have been transparent during such an extensive remodel and what you are going to do to make sure a customer is happy with their investment.... I have been waiting all year.... now I am really disappointed that you have no issue with sending out a bill, it is just about you. And your customer service agents are walls that will not get customers to the next level and think putting them on hold with music leaving them talking is acceptable..... If Amazon was in the gym business, you would be gone!! !
I love water aerobics at In-shape but I contracted a staph infection in my nose after pool water went up my nose. I am still dealing with it trying to get rid of it after 10 months. I have heard a lot of other people say they also have experienced illnesses from the pool water. They need to keep it clean. I want to go back but I am so scared.
Was going to look into joining in-shape. Had been a member years ago but had open heart surgery. The trainer then had running up and down steps 6 weeks later telling me he was a pro and knew what he was doing. After a consult with my cardiologist I quit in-shape. Now healthy I was going to re-enlist till I read reviews and remember what I went through with having to pay rest of contract even though I wasn't able to use their place. Never ever join in-shape. They almost killed me and not only charged me for 6 months but kept my personal trainer monies and said no refunds and can't hold over till well enough to use.
I paid off my account ** and was told that my account would not continue. This was done over the phone earlier this year. I have no desire to be with in-shape. Who ever it was that gave me the contract to sign mislead me. I've only used your gym about a half dozen times. Again, I paid off this account, and continued billing me is harassment.
My husband and I were in the Sauna today about 8:30am. We were relaxing after a workout. In comes a kid in his 20s. He sat down and did exercises in the sauna. He was huffing and puffing and making noise. After a few minutes of this, one of the ladies left. A few minutes later l left, my husband shortly thereafter. This kid was so noisy with his exercising that we felt uncomfortable. The kid's sweat was going everywhere because it was working hard and fast. We couldn't relax. We told the lady at the desk, she said that she knows who we were talking about. I don't understand why he was exercising in the Sauna. There are mats in the other part of the gym that he could do sit ups and whatever else he was doing. The Sauna is to relax in after a workout. My doctor told me to use the sauna after a workout because it relaxes the muscles. Maybe I should of taken a pic of his workout but I don't take the phone in the Sauna, I am there to relax and not think of anything else.
I signed up my son with a gym membership. I gave In-Shape my bank account and signed for the $40.00 monthly membership ONLY. They took out $329.00 without my consent by aggressively using sales tactics and intimidate my son into signing up for a personal trainer. I called immediately to cancel but still the money was taken from my account 3 days after I cancelled. The contract says that my son had 5 days to cancel. I cancelled immediately but they still took my money. Again I NEVER GAVE THEM PERMISSION TO TAKE THAT MONEY FROM MY ACCOUNT. That was not my son's bank account.
Today is almost one month later and they have still not returned my money. I have wasted MANY hours on the phone trying to resolve this situation. When I am able to get through someone, they have been telling me that the check with my money is in the mail. As of today I have not received it yet. I tried to resolve this issue at first by attempting to contact the Corporate Office but I can almost never get through on the phone. Left countless messages and only once I received a call back to tell me that the check is in the mail. I placed a formal complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I want my money and additional fees for all the time I wasted on the phone by tomorrow.
In-Shape has been withdrawing money from my account when no member was added so I contacted my local In-Shape, spoke to 3 different associates which neither one could help me. So then I called corporate and they took a while to respond to my emails and they are denying a refund. Everyone beware of In-Shape and their poor customer service!!!
They keep charging my credit card even I'm done with them. They have very poor communication between 1234 McHenry Modesto and the corporate office. I'm really tired of In-Shape taking too much of my money and my time. I spend hours calling for explanation and it has not been resolved yet. Please think twice before giving your bank info to In-Shape.
In-Shape in Hanford is dishonest. I wish I would have never signed up. I signed up for 1 year and spoke with three different people in Stockton and was given 3 answers. First I was told that I had a balance of $300.00 and then I was told by another worker that I still had one year left, then I was told by a different person that I had two years left. I signed up for 1 year and explained that to the worker in Stockton but she said that they never do 1-year contracts and only 3-year contracts. I can't find my contract anywhere. I believe that someone has altered my contract and explained this to the lady in the Stockton office. However, she just repeated herself. In-Shape also debited $180.00 unauthorized by me.
