Avoid In-Shape on White Lane if you value professionalism, transparency, and quality facilities. The staff here is unhelpful, unprofessional, and poorly trained. The manager refuses to return calls if you have a complaint, and there’s no customer service number to escalate issues. Overcharging is common, and even after canceling, you may still be charged. Refunds aren’t processed back to your card but are sent as a check in the mail, which is absurd in 2024. The gym itself is outdated and poorly maintained. The showers are old and uninviting, the sauna stays broken for weeks at a time, and repairs for other equipment take forever. Compared to other gyms, this location is sad and feels neglected.

What’s worse, the staff and management dance around answers, and you’ll hear a different explanation every time you call. This lack of consistency and accountability is infuriating. I’ve also experienced a complete lack of integrity—when I lost money here, a staff member told another member to just keep it. Other reviews are absolutely correct: this place is disorganized, unprofessional, and not worth your time or money. Save yourself the headache and join a gym that values its members, maintains its facilities, and operates with honesty and professionalism.

I am very disappointed in the way management handled an issue involving a Body Fit employee. I have been a member of INSHAPE before the conversion so for about 5 years, with no issues. 2 months ago, I made a complaint on a body fit employee who decided to get in my face, yelling, racially profiling me all because I wanted to grab weight that wasn't being used but was behind the body fit class. When I escalated the issues to management, they were dismissive and never got back to me. I was not told that I could not grab weights behind the class. In fact, for the past 2 years, I grab weight all the time with other body fit members because they have told me that they understand class is located in an inconvenient location blocking a huge portion that members pay for, during prime hours.

Yesterday, at 6;45am on Tuesday while attempting to grab weight, the same body fit employee walked up to me, blocked my pathway, yelling in my face telling me that I wasn't able to grab weight. After she decided to block my pathway, still in my face it escalated where I felt threaten and reacted to protect myself. This woman is racists and is getting away with treating other member the way she deems necessary with no consequences.

There are two other reviews on these women and other complaints one left 5 months ago regarding the same body fit employee and her aggressive behaviors. This is uncalled for, and appropriate procedure should be adhered to protect members. this is abuse of power. I will be filing a civil suit against In-shape regarding this issue as this woman is still teaching and endangering members. I have started a petition and since yesterday already have 7 signatures regarding this body fit members aggressive behaviors and members feeling threaten. please feel free to reach out to me regarding signing this petition.

Is InShape experiencing financial difficulties? Pool heater turned off Friday afternoon, turned back on Sunday morning. Our Saturday aqua class was very cold, 78 degrees. Frequently the pool heater is turned off and not turned back on until someone complains. The locker room lights are only half turned on about every other week. The changing room light was out for over three months. Plastic bags are usually out for a week before replaced. The locker room had six benches. After COVID only three. We have repeatedly asked the other benches be returned for member safety. It isn’t safe leaning on the wall, counter to balance while dressing.

Our monthly dues were raised this year. How much money is being saved by turning off the pool heater, the locker room lights, not replacing the benches? There was an issue in the parking lot. The woman at the desk said we could call the police but she couldn’t. She finally admitted that if she called the police she would be required to complete a report. Too lazy to be concerned about member safety.

I been trying to cancel my membership for two months straight on this stupid useless app and all it does is say error and I moved so haven’t been able to go in person since I’m too faraway and I even called and they told me they could only cancel in person or through the app and now I’m going to keep getting charged even though I’m too faraway to use my membership. What kind of scam are you guys running here?!! After this I will never ever again sign up with In-Shape and I will make sure all my friends and family know about your scam and I will even go as far as to post all over social media about this.

Been a member for many years and year after year you go to management for your concerns and get lied to with a smile. Nothing gets done. From equipment to the facility itself is a dump. Little d called threatening me with what I believed to be harmful behavior. Senior citizens should not be there with this behavior being allowed to go unchecked. I do not want to go back in fear of these people ruining my right to work out in a clean facility. There are many gyms opening up with good attitudes and clean everything. Not slimy floors, mens locker room broken down. Sauna may or not work along with hot tub.

How many times have you been ready for a good workout to find machines down, yellow tape around the hot tub. Take a cold sauna. People, it comes down to in-shape employees. They set a tone for the building. Not worried about threatening phone calls. This is a service we pay for and it falls short of expectations. Foul mouthed instructors, with no training. Management that gets crazy head if you dare write a bad review. You hear me little d.

I am starting a complaint that In-Shape is discriminating against senior citizens. In January I signed up for membership using my Silver and Fit benefit. I went to the Oswell, Bakersfield location and I was told that I would need to go to the California Ave location to sign up but I could use the Oswell location to work out. Today when I scanned in Megan said I would have to use the other locations 7 to 10 miles away, I live about 1 1/2 miles from the Oswell location. There are very few people using this gym and even fewer seniors when I am in there at the most 1 time per week. I feel I have just been discriminated against due to being a senior citizen. Going to run it past an attorney.

I could not remove anyone without adding 49.99 a month for my Mom and adding a yearly membership fee. In addition her delivery on this wonderful news she was delivering was quite cold and showed just how much she could care less. This gym has some serious problems starting with the gym Manager, Marisol. After bringing safety concerns regarding the gym's new policies that clearly create unsafe training conditions showed a clear lack of understanding, concern and any enthusiasm at addressing any issue she is presented with. Omar on the other hand seemed really concerned about the filthy pool and seemed to work it out. Gosh what a management contrast! In-Shape has the wrong person in charge.

With the current policies in place at the Inshape gym members need to beware of the pool area. They are being exposed to unsafe polices that clearly put people at risk. The policy in a nutshell that works for most pools is two to a lane. That's great when you have standard lanes like other facilities, but when the architect or whoever designed the coffee road gym built the pool area, they did not leave enough room for standard width lanes. Until some polices are changed people swim on top of each other, kicking, scratching etc...not intentionally but by the policies put in place!

I had been using In shape for the better of seven years to take showers in their facilities in Ceres, CA and Modesto, CA and the towel service was a hassle, where the towels were not available due to "washing" or "drying" or were "moist" because they had to pull out of the dryer not fully dry. I have foot problems because the shower stalls are not as clean as they should be. Not just athletes' foot which is an easy fix but more serious issues where I was in PAIN! I had seen how they clean the shower stalls and I was not impressed. The shower stalls should smell of bleach so you feel that it is clean, not long strands of hair littering the walls and floors of the stalls.

One time I was harassed as I attempted to exit the hot tub because I was wearing a full-body bathing suit, made for persons like Muslims/Jews, and was harassed by an Indian man only the Indian man did not know my husband was a few feet away. My husband got in his face and asked him if he was security or the police. He replied, "no." He left like a dog with a tail between his feet. Just crazy. I have seen Indian men get in the hot tub with men's boxers (YES UNDERWEAR) and Mexicans get in the hot tub with every clothing of t-shirts and shorts. The staff is not there to police anything so anything goes. It's gross. I will never join a gym again. We paid $80.99 per month for two people and we went only one time in March 2020 and the gym is happy to consume our extra funds and ask for more $$$.

When Gov Gavin Newsom closed down CA, it was understandable, and never went back to the gym since March 2020. Yet to my surprise they wanted to charge us $30.00 for a month, so-called claiming they did a pro-rated refund extending those funds to another month of which we never attended. They would never think to refund the customer when they ask to be refunded on a pro-rate on fairness due to the Pandemic.

I filed a case with the CA Attorney General which investigates Pandemic claims/fraud and will bring about lawsuits should they have enough people complain. Inshape replied in a 10-page statement. (Thank you to our CA Attorney General Your team is super excellent!) I highly suggest any and every problem to contact the CA Attorney General. Thank you and be safe! I am glad I bought a house with an inground pool in a nice neighborhood where I can walk the area for exercise.

Unfortunately I only kept this bank account for small transactions and haven't been really paying attention to it plus I've been busy with my new job. I emailed 12/11/19 for a cancellation request. An automatic response was supposed to be handled within a day. I had to call 12/16/19 about the issue. They said that they cannot do anything about the drafted fees because there was no confirmation. I said I requested one but never received one.

My last login the club was 7/2018. I requested another cancellation via email this time and I still didn't get a response, I had to call. Beware if you need to cancel your membership, keep calling to confirm. Since I wasn't able to follow up on it right away. They never followed through on my request and it cost me $$$ for their inconsideration. I feel like I was set up. I was charged for something that I requested cancelled and did not use. I filled out my name on a piece of paper stating the workout summary for full body and that it was four sessions that I purchased for $300. I informed them I did not want to be scheduled and that I did not want to purchase more training.

I was on vacation for half of the next month and I noticed a charge from In-Shape for $303 and called for a month trying to figure out why they charged me for sessions if I didn't agree to purchase any. They never told me that it was auto renewed until I called customer service for the 5th time and she informed me that apparently they send an opt out agreement that you must cancel in order to not be charged. I did not sign anything nor was I shown any agreement. They left me under the impression I was purchasing 4 sessions for 1 month that's it. I had had good experiences with In Shape elsewhere. Perhaps I, as a ** female, should have known better than to stop at the one on California Ave in West Bakersfield. It has a huge banner advertising swimming lessons for all ages. But, Brittney, the receptionist said the banner was just contractual and In Shape knew nothing about the swimming lessons. I tried to explain to her that a contract was legal and that they should not have a six foot tall banner near the registration window if what it advertised did not exist. So, then I took some photos and she got mean. She called me aggressive several times even though the counter and several feet were between us.

So, then I sat down to talk to wait for the manager. She then called three burly ** guys. They towered over me and intimidated me. She said she was going to file a report. Scared, I called the police department and made my own complaint. I then went to my car, hand wrote a letter of complaint to the managers, took it inside, stayed six to eight feet away from Britney, taped the note to the counter, and told her from afar that I was leaving a note for the manager. She said "Here's your note going in the trash", crumpled it up and threw it away. I'll send to corporate the copy of the letter I made with my cell phone.

I went through an entire ordeal with In-Shape not honoring their own contract we agreed and signed to, as well as overcharging me for over a year. Taking more than the agreed amount from my bank and would not assists me regarding this issue at all. I called multiple times throughout the year of 2018 and was never helped. I finally got the attention of corporate after writing many times and posting an online negative opinion about my experience and I complained many times about my personal information missing from their own records.

I was constantly told that a representative would get back to me, but that never happened. I demanded resolution and restitution by Jan 2019 from being victimized of my bank account being abused and my rates being raised with zero notifications in any manner with explanation. If rolls were reversed, I would be in prison for theft. It is bad business practices to overcharge a member and be in breach of company contract. Especially when I honored previous contract and payments two years prior. I have been an In-Shape member since 2016.

The Brentwood In-Shape gym is overall fine, like most of local gyms, clean, nice and the stuff is generally friendly. Even found an amazing Zumba instructor, Kelly **, if she'll ever work outside of their system I'll be one of the first in line. But the billing is a complete scam. I've been their customer, for about three months, but decided to cancel since with three kids and lots of side activities had no time for it. But, I was a bit hesitant and thinking of returning, since it's overall a good local gym, we decided to freeze my account for 6 mounts and see what happens. But my schedule got even tighter, so I had to cancel. Trusting the stuff I genuinely thought that my story with In-Shape is over, but today I've got a bill from them on the credit card that wasn't EVEN REGISTERED in their system.

I've got that card after I've cancelled the membership. It's the same account, but the card is different, since it was reissued by the bank, with a different number. And now, I cannot be sure that if I'll mark this transaction as a fraud, In-Shape won't find my new card and won't charge me again, for a cancelled membership to a non registered card. Yes, it seems surreal, but it's true. Not only is it very difficult, but extremely close to an actual crime. I'm definitely not returning, telling all my friends who are current members and also, if it happens again, after I'll talk to the stuff for third time now, consulting my family lawyer about possible charges.

I signed up for a 6 month personal training session. At the time I was signing up, the trainer who signed me up said: I could cancel during month 1, not month 2 and after month 2. I said that was exactly what I was looking for since my schedule fluctuates significantly and I get incredibly busy at times. After falling significantly behind on my training sessions and informing my personal trainer (not who signed me up) I couldn't manage the time commitment (month 4). He told me I couldn't cancel without a cancellation fee. This was news to me since that was never mentioned... I was also informed I signed up for a 6 month contract.

After spending an hour on the phone explaining the situation, I was promised a call back within 30 mins. I never received a callback and ended calling myself 24 hours later. This time, I was informed that I should have known all of this, since it was written in the agreement sent to my online portal. I signed a contract in good faith based on the verbal representation of one of their employees, they sent it to an online portal that I have never logged on to or didn't know the existence of.

Then I was informed that my contract auto renews and I will be on the hook for month 7 as well since I didn't cancel 30 days prior. But out of the goodness of their heart they are willing to waive the 30 cancellation time. I missed 2.5-3 months worth of sessions and only asked to be reimbursed for 1 month which coincides with when I tried to cancel, as I was lead to believe possible when signing up. Can't believe they get away with doing business like this and wonder how many other customers have been misled, class action lawsuit waiting to happen. Going to cancel my membership altogether now.

This branch is extremely well-kept! I haven't been to other branches of In-Shape yet, but I've gone to almost all branches of LA Fitness, 24 hours (most branches) throughout the nation. The cardinal reason is the STAFF!!! They're totally congenial. Despite how hot & bootylicious Emily is at the front desk, her attitude is like of a down to the earth girl. Most single guys don't even have to take Nitrix (for energy boost) when she walks by... The personal trainer, Chelsea (I believe that's her name, blonde girl) is so jovial. Her smile is so hot & bright I could almost get a suntan out of it... She mesmerized me with an eye contact from a distance when I first time walked into this gym. And she always genuinely smiles in my face. All the guys are cool too. Very hardly I see equipment out of order. At other gyms at least 5-10% of the equipment remains broken for a very long time, it's aggravating because they were most frequently used.

Here I almost don't see equipment out of order. They have a punching bag equipment, even all kinds of resistance bands unlike at most gyms, because of their 5 finger discountability. Self-guided full body exercise equipment, massage beds, massage chairs, tanning salons, jacuzzi, sauna, top-notch spas. Whatever you need to stay in shape, they have it! I wish they also include vibrational equipment that stimulate ALL cells in the body (like Juvent Sport). Pretty sure if I give them an advise they wouldn't mind obtaining it. It's not expensive (even at Walmart competitor brands cost $175), but it's very healthy for all organs and it's NOT pseudo-scientific! It's obvious in great measure this In-Shape branch has a proficient leadership, that makes this gym one of my favorite, like HorsePower, but for the fraction of the price!

I am a new member at the Cathedral City locations. I had been studying on problems with pool urination and the health effects in heavily used pools and spas. New studies from 2014 to 2017 say over 64 percent of swimmers admit to urinating in pools and that it is not true that chlorine kills the bacteria or effects of the urine. In fact, urine mixed with chlorine creates two distinct chemicals known not only to cause bladder cancer, but can cause chronic problems to the lungs and heart from breathing the air the combination creates. There are some remedies for removing urine or breaking it down right away. I called the manager of my In-Shape facility in Cathedral City and he had no answer for this issue. Yet it is one of great health concern. My doctors say I should use aquatic exercise to rehab my knee and a torn rotator cuff but I am now very concerned about this. I know swimmers there continually pee in the pool and spa.

You can smell the uric acid it creates and in the smaller jacuzzi, I hate to say this, but I accidentally swallowed some of the water and could taste it so much that I thought at first it was salt water. My question is, "What are you doing to address this filthy issue". I saw one lady pee in the pool as she stood next to me. The color...even in water...was obvious as she did so. The manager said they use a company called Eco Labs to handle their pool services. I checked them Online but could find nothing that would address this somewhat gross issue that most people do not like thinking about. Many assume chlorine kills the effects of urine. It does not. But mixed with urine creates very dangerous chemicals. Please tell me what makes it safe to swim in your pools or use your jacuzzi after reading this. Thank you. Your club... other than this concern... is outstanding. Great staff, clean... Thus the 4 star rating. Thank you.

Modesto McHenry North - I love this club, the staff, the instructors, the equipment are all top notch. It’s usually very clean. However for the past month there has been water in the floor in the group exercise room. When we came in for Zumba today there were about 12 paper towels on wet spots all over the floor. We had one guy slip and ended up leaving early and another girl slipped and fell. Luckily she seemed okay. But someone could get seriously hurt with water all over the floor.

We told the person at the desk and he said he would let housekeeping know. I told him that was fine for a temporary fix but something needs to be done to fix the leaky roof. It’s been leaking for more than a month. We pay our monthly membership expecting a safe place to workout. Right now this isn’t a safe place with water all over the floor. On a positive note, you have some great instructors. I take Zumba from Beth, Heather, Eva and Silvia. They all are excellent and represent In Shape very well.
