After trying Gold's Gym out for a discounted month I just fell in love and go nearly every day. Flippin awesome. Its locations was nearby me which was very convenient. I like the friendly staff who are always willing to help you with your workout. It was well kept up and worth the monthly price. Plenty of equipment for everyone too. But more cool and knowledgeable staff would be very nice as well as cleaner towels. Also, it would be great if the there were signs or labels to display each equipment's cores.

I worked out at Gold's Gym because my employer gave all of the management team a yearly membership there. Gold's Gym pretty much offered more equipment and activities than I would ever have used so it didn't come up short in any respect and I enjoyed going there several evenings a week for several years running. Also, I really enjoyed doing 10 or 15 minutes of warm up and stretches and then hitting the racquetball courts with several of my friends. We usually reserved a court for 2 hours between 4 of us and would play two games of one-on-one and then a game of doubles. Great workout. However, it would have made the workouts more pleasant if there is more circulation of fresh air in the free weights room because once or twice when I was there and there were 20 or more guys in there pumping and sweating, the air would get pretty stuffy and really start smelling like old sour sweat.

Gold's Gym has lots of good machines, plenty of free weights and big enough locker rooms to shower. I can go on my lunch break most days and still able to take a quick shower. They have better equipment and they're closer to work and home which makes it easier to get in and out in enough time. Also, it's located near quick food places so I can refuel before going to back to work. However, they're not 24 hours. I'd like to be able to go in even on holidays. And, I hope they open earlier on Sundays so that I can do my workout over and go on with my day.

I quite like the facilities at Gold's Gym. It is a very state of the art facility with all the newest equipment and styles. The setup of the gym is ideal, everything flows quite well. It is nearby both work and school for me, and not far from my home. It's a very easy commute as it doesn't make sense for me to drive miles to work out. The only thing I truly dislike about Gold's Gym is the cost of membership. The price is a bit high for a non twenty-four hour facility. So I guess I'd change the hours as well.

Of all the gyms I have been a member of, Gold’s Gym has everything I was looking for. I love everything about it and it is the best I have ever been to. It's always clean. It is equipped with a diverse group of amenities. I also love the different classes they offer and that they provide child care. Plus this gym has great hours. Gold’s Gym has definitely met my expectations. The staff is very friendly, accommodating and knowledgeable. There isn't anything I don't like other than it being crowded at certain times when I go.

The price was great for all the benefits and classes provided there. The variety of classes is fabulous, something for everyone. I really like the ladies-only area. I can use that and not feel stressed about having lots of guys around yelling, etc. Liked that there was a pool as well. I love using the machines and that the classes are included. But maybe more equipment in the ladies area. There are only 3 treadmills and they filled fast. The area is also pretty small. There isn't adequate space to actually put down the provided mats and use them.

Gold's Gym was close to home. I went in there looking for equipment that would work for me and it did meet my expectations. They had exercise programs. Light to hard. They had a walk track, bikes, weights, clean showers, friendly staff and a lot of times to work out that was convenient for me. The cost was a little steep but doable. They have a good, clean environment and most of all they did not push you too hard. Loved the workouts and the trainer seemed to know what they were supposed to know about health. Only thing was it seemed like the gym was set up for muscle heads and they catered more towards them thinking their poop smell better than mine. Don't get me wrong. I like Gold's Gym but they need to focus on the unhealthy people as much as they do the muscle heads. They would get a lot more business if they did.

I liked that Gold's Gym was close to my residence, was fairly priced and it offered classes. It also had fairly new equipment and facilities and decent hours. However, I did not like the trainer assigned to me, the general "feel" of the other members, and the commitment. I did not have any incentive to return. It was uncomfortable and the trainers pounced on you the moment you entered. I wanted a place to come in and work out with no one bothering me, but that wasn't an option there. A friend of mine loved it but I hated it. I really only wanted classes, a treadmill, a bike, and a rowing machine, but I didn't always have access to those and I was pressured to use weights.

I like all of the variety of machines and classes available. The Gold's Gym I am a member of also offers personal training for their members and are open 24 hours which is important to me as my hours at work can vary and I need a gym that is open when I need them to be. The equipment is great, the staff are excellent, knowledgeable and helpful. I have tried many gyms over the years and what stood out for me with Gold's is they are focused on their member's needs. It's a gym and doesn't try to be anything else. I've been to "gyms" that focus on everything except the one most important thing... helping members achieve their personal fitness goals.

It is a very good and fun place where I can interact with other people. It is conveniently located and I like the treadmills, stationary bikes, the different kinds of equipment that have weights attached to them and other kinds of exercise equipment. However, I would like to have people wipe down and sanitize all of the exercising equipment and have somebody periodicaly spray some harmless air sanitizing spray that's allergic-free in the gym to kill germs in the air.

I was impressed by the equipment. I liked the cardio machines the most. They had many new ones and plenty different settings. I was there with my sister, and so we hit the machines hard and had a great workout! I also liked the daycare they had on site and the fact that we could watch our kids on a tv screen while we worked out! The staff and trainers were very helpful and polite as well! I was there for the first time, so it was all in all a great experience for me. It met my expectations and I would go back again.

I like companies with a good name recognition. I always look for a brand I know and have heard of. The brand name goes a long way in finding out what type of company you are going to use. I also look for good reviews before I try a place. Gold's Gym is a great company. I also liked the setup and the professional way I was treated. The instructors were great and very helpful. They were kind and very sincere. I had a very positive experience with no complaints. I enjoyed it and would use the location again and again. It was the best workout I have had.

I was a member of Gold's Gym Dagenham which is in the U.K. It seems that it doesn't matter which country you are in you can always rely on Gold's Gym to scam people with their tricky policies and horrid staff. My experience with Gold's Gym has been absolutely horrific! I signed up to a 1 year contract with them and when the year was up I wrote to them, like their terms and conditions stated and cancelled the direct debit. They did not respond to my letter and then put my account in arrears, meaning they wanted me to pay for an extra month before allowing me to cancel, even though I had wrote them a later cancelling and I had been a loyal member with no problems for a year.
I then wrote to them again and a month later they added another month's payment to my 'account'. Even though I had written them multiple letters and phoned numerous times!! THEY ARE AN ABSOLUTE SCAM AND ONLY WANT YOUR MONEY. I SUGGEST YOU DO NOT SIGN UP TO GOLD'S GYM!! ABSOLUTE SCUMBAGS!!!!

I really like that the people there is friendly and always ready to help if you need it. Also there's a lot of equipment to choose from. And there's a lot of different stations. But I would like it if it was open twenty four hours so I could work out when I wanted. I would also like to see more cardio. It's a little cramped so I wish there was more room to move around. I chose this gym because of its reputation and I have friends that work out there. Gold's Gym met my expectations and I would highly recommend it.

I like that the gym is close to home. I do not drive so I can walk or take the bus there. It's not as high priced as some of the other ones and they offer good package deals. The staff is friendly, helpful and they offer classes to help you meet your weight loss goals, and you can also have someone there to help you meet those goals. I also like that they have so much equipment for me to choose from to do my workouts. They offer mats to use because I don't own one. My friends go there so I don't have to work out alone, so all in all, it's a pretty good place to get good exercise.
On the other hand, the price is a little high for what I'm looking for and some of the equipment could use a little work. I wish they offered more healthy food in the break area and had more vending machines with more water or maybe some sports drinks so that I don't have to bring my own. The lockers are a little small so would be nice to have bigger ones to put my items in while I'm working out.

Gold's is a clean gym that is very near my home. It has great hours and trained people working there. I feel the atmosphere is very health related and they are people who watch out for any accidents happening on the floor. The price of the dues for the gym per month are a little high for me. I feel maybe it would be beneficial to the customers to have more trained employees on the floor to help with some of the more complicated machines. Also, maybe to have the hours that they are open late to be staffed by a few more people, too. Other than those few things I feel the gym is really run in a great way.
The machines are great, the building is extremely clean and very knowledgeable staff works there. Also, I choose this as my go to gym because it is so easy to get to from my place of business. It is right around the corner from my office and many of my fellow employees go there, too. This makes me want to go more often due to the amount of my fellow friends and employees that go there, too. The parking lot also is very easy to park in and the lighting at night when it is black out makes me fell safe when walking from my car into the facility. All in all, this is a very happy place to work out and go to every day during the work week after I leave work.

I would redo the bathrooms, they need new floors, walls and toilets and a better shower head. Other than that, I love my gym. The abundance of machines and space definitely is my favorite part of the gym. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable place to work out. There is even a cinema room if you want to cool off and watch a movie while you work out. The price is not outrageous and I like that the membership allows you to bring a guest to work out with. My boyfriend and I are most comfortable at Gold's Gym.

Gold's Gym was modern and had a swanky seating area for new customers or a little social time. Machines were placed at different levels. Cycling equipment was angled above main floor. Rowers and stair climbers were placed in front of large windows looking outward. Spin room was like a dj booth with black lighting. I loved the visuals that engaged me while doing strength training. And no loud music and a bunch of TVs. The gym has changed and improved since I was a member. Over time it became a 24 hr gym. I joined when they offered the separate women's gym at a lower price. They made a small room for women to give them a place of their own... And over time women began to use it. Eventually the wall was torn down and women used the entire space. It was a great marketing strategy to get more female membership.
Because of a job change I relocated to another city and looked for a Gold's Gym to join. They had one, but it was out in the boonies, looked like a warehouse and pricing was bad. Then another franchise, The Rush, bought them out, and seemed like a circus and was expensive. Seven years later I have relocated back and the Gold's Gym is still here.

I was assaulted and harassed by a member at the Randolph Rd. location. This member has made creepy comments in the past about both me and other women while we were working out (also confirmed by two other employees with one official incident on record), and on February 15, 2017, at 9 am, this man accosted me, mocking me for my temporary disability, cornering me, invading my personal space and ultimately brushing his hand and arm across my ** and arm.
Amazingly, there are no cameras, and none of the five employees at the desk saw anything, despite the incident taking place about 25 feet from the desk through some glass doors. I called the Montgomery County police and filed a police report (the staff at the desk would not even call. They reluctantly handed me the phone to call myself). The police report was taken by Officer **. No one at Gold's in any way took it seriously. Certain staff laughed as I cried. No one made any move to help me or even ask the man to leave. Nope, he just kept working out and laughing it up. Wouldn't you, if you knew there were no repercussions?
After being promised in writing (emails) that the assaulter's membership would be terminated, and me following up for over three weeks after being consistently ignored, I was told by the district manager, Michael **, that I matter less as a human than my assailant, and there would be no repercussions at all. None. He would keep his membership despite the promises made to me. I would continue, as I had been forced to for the past three weeks, to work out with my harasser. Unbelievable. If you'd care to tell Mr. ** exactly what you think, you can contact him here: **
Between membership fees and personal training, I have spent over $10,000 in the past four years at that location. My accuser? Roughly $30 a month. But he's a big bad lawyer, and most importantly, a ** male, so guess who was forced to leave the gym and trainer she'd had for five years because no one saw fit to even suspend this loser for my safety?
I loved my gym. I loved working out and being known by the staff, and I've never so much as said boo to anyone. But suddenly become a woman who is accosted out of nowhere, minding her own business, and you become a troublemaker. A drama queen. A liar. I have no motivation to make all of this up, waste my own precious time filing reports and calling police and meeting with prosecutors – and oh yeah, LOSING MY GYM – and I did not. This incident happened, and Gold's in Rockville, nor corporate, gives a flying ** about women or their safety. This is why their membership is going down and their staff turnover is so high (confirmed by an employee). If you are a female or an ally to females, I would consider taking your business elsewhere to any other gym – many are cheaper and treat women far better than this misogynistic dump.

I moved from Kingwood, TX to Dallas, TX with all legit proof of verification but still the "ABC Financial" is not letting me free me from the cancellation process. It's been 3 months I have not stepped in the Gold's premises but still I am being charged every other month. Upon talking with the company they will point on petty stuffs and debit your account. I have taken a gym services with many other providers but never have gone through such a mental hassles.
I have mailed certified mails three times with the proof of address verification (driver's license, bank statement, USPS address verification, utility bills) but none of them meet the criteria for the cancellation. I paid on phone for the services that I did not take, even assured the cancellation with the manager, she told I am good to go but still I am getting the calls. Gold's Gym Eau Claire, WI - I am more than little concerned about the pool situation here. I have had many gym memberships over the years and this is by far the dirtiest one. Is the pool safe? It's a saline one. I have been using the pool and getting sick afterward with viruses... repeatedly. I'm at the point now where I'll have to eliminate the use of it. They need to make it much more apparent, with signs, for member to wipe down machines after use. Their showers and locker rooms are frequently neglected. I was trying to talk to manager Ed ** from Gold's Gym Bear Creek, Houston Texas. He rejected me. I left his office and went back to front desk. He went back to front desk, he did not even look at me. I was trying to talk to him about my membership and how uncomfortable I am with it. I have been a member for that gym for 4 years and I have had spent when I started more than 300 dollars in personal training and also paying monthly 56 dollars, and that is not including the day care.
Now I have a baby, I was trying to see if I can get a discount on my regular membership since I would like to add now day care. He did not even tried to listened to me, and all he said was, "we cannot change it." I was saying that I think it's unfair me paying 56 monthly that is divided in regular membership and signature classes and all my friends are paying 10 dollars for their membership, and I have been a good member of that gym, love to exercise and religiously love to go every day.
He just kept saying "we can't change it," and I said "well, would you rather lose a member?" And he said yes... what kind of manager is that? I think he needs to take a class of customer service skills, don't know what was wrong with him, and why he was against me. It almost felt personal, and I don't even know him. There were also other witnesses there... Hope this can be heard, and something can be done about this.

I've had tattoo that were less permanent than this membership. If you join this gym understand that you are signing up for life because they do not let you cancel. Besides the required form and certified letters to ABC Financial in order to cancel, they simply don't read them. I moved states over a year ago and have called, emailed, and send 4 letters to cancel. All of which ended without cancellation. They just keep charging you. What's worse, if you change your card to not pay, they continue to bill you and send collectors after you. If you call to resolve this, they simply tell you to send the form letter to their address and cannot cancel over the phone.
Oh, and where do you get this form to send in the letter? That's easy. Just pick it up from the gym (which is now 1200 miles from where I live). Then when you do get it and resend, they "lose" the letter and loop continues. The have lost me as a customer for life and I hope I can save a few of you from going through this. ** GOLD'S GYM!

When calling to cancel, the process is easy. You get verbal confirmation that your membership is canceled. Months later, you get a call saying that you owe money and that you must pay. After calling the franchise, they say that all managers are busy (conveniently) and that you need to pay. I mention that we called and canceled but the person on the phone just says the cancellation probably mistakenly did not go through, but we still must pay. Checking online, this is a common fraudulent practice that they are doing to others as well.

It's a shame that a gym with such an array of equipment and variety of services is so poorly managed. There are no posted rules for using the shared equipment, so there are constant confrontations between members. Some members "reserve" exercise machines by placing a water bottle on the seat, then they disappear somewhere in the gym. But if another member tries to use the vacant machine, there is a confrontation and heated disagreement over who has the "right" to that machine. Other members simply drape themselves across the machine while using their iPhone. And they are greatly offended if someone else asks to use the machine. So actually getting a decent workout at the gym is hard. And it makes for an unpleasant environment with members arguing over who has access to the equipment.
This should be an easy problem for management to address. Simply post rules of etiquette for the members so that it is clear how members should use the shared equipment. Yet no rules are posted, and this has been the situation for at least 1 year since I've been a member. I am surprised I haven't seen any physical fights yet, but maybe I just wasn't there when they happened. Or maybe there hasn't been any yet, who knows. But I do have to say the place appears to have no responsible management and that has to lead to problems eventually. So despite having a paid membership it is hard to get access to the machines and get a decent workout.

It is easy to join the gym anytime. The facility is fine, the employees are nice enough. I object to their cancellation policy. I went to the counter on October 3rd to inform them that I was going to move, and that I wanted to cancel my membership. They gave me a slip of paper with my account number and a phone number to call in order to cancel my membership. The number is for a company called ABC Financial, who apparently handles their billing. At the time that I wanted to cancel, I was working full time, going to school, and preparing to move out of state. I was super busy, and I did not contact ABC until I noticed that there was a charge on my bank account for the month of December.
My beef is this: If you inform them at the counter, why can't Gold's Gym contact ABC Financial and tell them that you want to cancel your membership? If there is a balance due, then ABC would still handle it, but the cancellation date would be established. I think that Gold's Gym is taking advantage of the fact that a lot of people will drop the ball and not contact ABC in time to avoid further charges. I consider it a transparent, sleazy, scam. I was told that they require 30 days notice, which was fine with me, even though I would be paying for the month of November when I would not even be in the same state. And I later found out that they have a $100.00 per year membership fee, which I was also ok with. But now I am looking at paying for December and January before I can get out of their clutches.
I called my bank and got December's money back, and I blocked any further debits from that company. I don't want to damage my credit, so I called the gym and talked to the manager to try to get him to waive the extra two months fees, but he said that he could not. I think that is bogus, and that their cancellation policy is an intentional way to generate additional income from their members. I would not recommend that anyone join their gym because of this reason.

I received an overdraft fee from my bank because they billed me later than they should have. I made the call to them and the woman that answered was rude upon picking up the phone. All she did was interrupt me and did not allow me to finish talking. I asked her questions and she got quite annoyed, and it was expressed in her voice. I had to yell in order to get my words out. She sent me an email and then sent a confirmation that my payment was processed. Then I found out that all she did was try to process my payment again which caused another charge to my account and a negative fee balance. In the end my bank charged me 102.00 and then I still have to pay 40 a month for Gold's Gym.
I called again and another rude representative answered the phone. I told her my situation and she attempted to interrupt me, and I did not let her. She said, "Ma'am it's just like a car payment" I found that rude and inaccurate because it's not just like a car payment, and she was talking to me like I was stupid. I said, "It's like a what?" She then changed what she said. At that point I became very angry. She explained to me that if Gold's Gym gets a decline from an automatic account they attempt to bill again that Friday. I said, "Why? Why would y'all do that to people?" Once it declines of course they don't have money in their account so why would you try to take it out again two days later? (The whole reason why I didn't transfer money to that account was because I was waiting for a Letter of Merchant from Gold's Gym that was requested. I didn't want to put my hard-earned money into a negative balance that wasn't my fault.)
She told me it was all in the contract. I feel as if the person who signed me up did not give me those details. I asked to cancel my contract. She said, "Well let me see if you have that option." I said, "I do have that option," and she got mad and said, "We do not do that here." I said, "Ma'am I was just telling you that I had the option." And she said, "Ok let me check." At this point I'm so angry. It's like these representatives both expected me to be rude and as a result of them being rude and disrespectful, I had to stand up for myself. This is not customer service.

I recently provided a review concerning the friendliness of the staff at the Gold's Gym where I attend. On yesterday, 10/25/16, a visiting area manager interrupted the class that I was taking and told the instructor to turn down the music - Yes, unprofessional and rude. A new body pump launch track was being used. That person's comment broke the spirit of the class - what a bummer workout. How much more professional it would have been for that person to address this with the teacher after class. I guess I can't really blame the local staff for their service -- could be that customer service training is needed from the top!

I've received letters from the corporation and it is the worst company to call, the first lady was rude and hung up on me and I called the following month, again another lady was very rude. She gave me her email and it was the wrong address. I called my bank at a 1 800# and the lady said they get a lot of calls about the BIG PROBLEMS they have with GOLD'S GYM. I am a current loyal customer and have always sung the praises of this gym, however that has quickly changed as of this morning. Several weeks ago I asked one of the staff members, who was working the front desk, about a guest pass for my boyfriend. My boyfriend is a 15 yr marine, who was going to be taking a break from active duty to come visit me for a week, and wanted to see about using the gym while he was here. The girl at the front desk said to fill out the VIP pass information online and that should be fine...
I said ok, and did just that. This morning he went to the gym and was turned away. He was told that because he lived out of state that he couldn't use the pass, as the purpose of that pass is to sign up new members. Well, they are correct, he does live out of state... HE IS AN ACTIVE DUTY MARINE STATIONED IN CALIFORNIA!
I am irate at the fact that he was turned away after we followed the directions I was given. I will be looking to voice my complaint elsewhere and will also be cancelling my membership, in addition to spreading the word about this location and their poor treatment of their customers and their loved ones... especially a member of the military! This is simply unacceptable in my eyes.

When I signed up they told me that my membership was going to be $23 and some odd change after tax which turned into $30. Their excuse for it was that my rate went up 10 days after I signed up. On top of that they told me that I had a 30-day money-back guarantee which they lied about that. They refuse to cancel my account. I'm still within 30 days and she doesn't want neither of the supervisors Erica or Belinda want to cancel my account. They keep saying that I don't qualify for the 30 day money back guarantee. What the hell does that mean? These people are crooks.
The gym is always dirty. The basketball courts are never swept. I got brand new basketball shoes and I'm slipping and sliding on the court and they act like their staff don't think so ain't nobody got time for that!! If you're consumer and you're reading this please don't sign up with them. You'll be highly disappointed. Also when I signed up I don't even get a contract that stated how much my birthday weekly payment was. It's pathetic. They don't deserve any customers the way they treat people. I called the corporate office for Gold's Gym two days ago about refunding the money which was $460 that they took out of my checking account for days that I didn't use the personal trainer. They said they will not refund the money because I was on contract. I explained to them that "I cancelled the personal trainer in August so why are you billing me for August and September?" Their response was because the billing fell on the 15th of each month, the payments are considered late.
Well if I cancelled before the due date and haven't seen the trainer nor been to the gym since the beginning of August, I would think the right thing to do is to refund the money, not keep it and be a crook about it!!! Oh fail to mention, I was still paying $17 every other week up until 2 days ago. I'm a Veteran who suffers physical pain due to injuries I received in Iraq. Was trying to build my body to be able to perform daily task at home and work. Thanks Gold's Gym for giving me more reasons not to trust business like you!!!

Watch out for these people. They will charge you for fees incorrectly then refuse to help, then refuse to refund the full amount even after they admit the mistake. We joined the Leesburg club before it was Gold's but during our membership it was purchased by Gold's. We took the opportunity to transfer to the Ashburn facility because it was nicer and closer. We followed the instructions of the Leesburg front desk to the tee. We paid for membership and personal training at the new club for full year in advance. Halfway through the second year we realized that the Leesburg club had begun charging us again. The Leesburg manager did nothing but challenge whether or not we had correctly canceled our membership at his club. When I returned to speak to him he had done nothing and couldn't even remember the situation.
I talked to the Ashburn club and they put their hands up, "We're a franchise, we have nothing to do with them". I talked to the Ashburn manager who said he would call the Leesburg manager. He did not do so. Again I solicited his help and he responded that I should get him all the information and he would see what he could do. Not convincing and I never heard from him again. Finally I contacted the home office. They researched the problem and admitted the mistake. However, they refused to refund the full overcharged amount citing a policy stating they will only refund 90 days of an overcharge. Not a law... a company policy that allows them to steal.
No one said "Gee, we screwed up and we're sorry"... no one. No one took the torch and said "Let's get this fixed"... no one. No one said "you've paid on time and been a valued customer"... no one. Leesburg didn't help at all. Ashburn disavowed responsibility. The home office admitted the mistake but stole our money anyway. Gold's Gym is not an ethical business and should not be considered if you value integrity.

Today, Aug. 20, 2016, I went with my son for his membership renewal. His membership ended in May, so we were told that he needed to start as "new" member since it was 3 months. Therefore, he needed to pay the enrollment and registration, which total was $258, plus monthly fee. We questioned them if you already had his info in your system why we needed to pay for registration and enrollment. Then they said OK to waive the registration. So far so good.
Once we continued ask if there was any other option. We were told if we would pay in front for 15 months plus the enrollment fee of $199, it would save us to pay monthly for 12 months. Being engaged in accounting, I catch it was incorrect. We would pay more if we chose 15 month program and pay total in front. Then the sales changed and said "Nope, I did not say to pay the enrollment if you paid in front for 15 month". Obviously, he tried to cover his "cheat". Then we were told, if we chose 12-month contract, then we were billed starting Sep., and the rest days of Aug. would be free. Sounds good, right! Nope, it was a "trap".
He saw we were kind of satisfied with it. Then he said we needed to pay tax top of the enrollment fee. I questioned I never heard sales tax to be top of the enrollment fee. He challenged that every fee was taxable. I told him I have been engaged in accounting, if you tried to make it up for charging the rest of Aug., then be honest to us. Don't sound like you were giving us a favor of "free" for the rest days of Aug.
We were happy to pay for what we would get. But we cannot accept any unfaithful presentation in order to get sales. We just did not like to deal with the contract which was not presented in its honest form. Therefore, we chose to leave. Even the sales did not apologize for his mis-presentation while we left. We would never deal with any business who has no any business integrity to their customers. If you are about to sign the contract with them, or you have done, I would be more careful for what would be hidden on the contract. Just my courtesy reminder.

The manager there on June 29th 2016 was very nice and helpful but he only cancelled my membership and not me and my son's membership. So when I was billed on July 25th, I was upset and called the customer service hotline at 1-866-465-3775 and spoke to a girl named Charity and I have to say that she was by far the rudest person in customer service that I spoke to in my life.
When she pulled up my info and I explained to her that I cancelled my membership and I still got billed and that I did it in the store with the manager online and he gave me a confirmation print out of my cancellation. She then proceeded to tell me that I did not go into the store and then it was done online. I said it was done online but at the actual store with the manager. She then proceeded to call me a liar when I asked her if she thought I was lying to her and then it escalated from that point and she basically told me to calm down and to shut my mouth.
Needless to say I was not happy at all. A person like that does not belong working in any environment with actual people. She does not know how to speak to people with respect. I called back and ask to speak to a manager and they told me that there was not a manager available and that I can leave a voicemail for the manager. In 1981 I signed a gym contract for a new gym in Houston. The renewable terms clearly stated that I had the option to renew by making a payment within 30 days of first term end or any subsequent term. It also stated that my renewable option was only valid to a business owned by the original company that were in existence on the date of the contract (Mar 10, 1983). There was no mention of any long term renew until I die obligation nor was there any mention of a complicated cancellation process requirement. The club was sold to Bally's and they honored my annual renewal but never pushed me to renew and never asked for me to sign a new contract, saying the old contract was being honored. So I went on and off for several years and paid my small annual renewable within 30 days, per my contract, at my own "option to renew".
Bally's was then sold to Blast and I went there a few times but did not like them and chose to stop my renewals. The Gold's bought Blast and tried to say I owed them money even though I now lived more than 15 miles from the nearest Gold's location. I refused to pay and I quoted my original contract and was told by a Gold's employee that my file will be removed. Then I get a letter in January from a collection agency in Utah trying to say if I just pay a $115 "amnesty fee" my "debt" will be forgiven. Sounds like extortion, doesn't it? I again quoted the terms of my 1981 contract and tried to say I have no obligation to Gold's. Then I got a notice from my identity and credit service that I had a negative item on my credit report. In 40 years that never happened and sure enough Gold's went after my credit.
I filed complaints with the Texas State Attorney General, the FTC, and decided to try the BBB in Utah since that is the office location of the collection agency. I named both the collection agency and Gold's Gym (Dallas corporate address). I quoted the renewal terms from my contract from 1981 and asked them to help me get the collection agency and Gold's Gym to tell me on what legal grounds they were charging me an "amnesty fee" and reporting the unpaid debt to my credit file. The BBB Utah immediately responded by sending a request for information to the collection agency and an offer of binding arbitration. Within a couple of hours the collection agency responded saying they discussed it with Gold's Gym and they agreed to drop the file and report the derogatory item from my credit file. I will follow up to make sure this is don't.
Moral of the story: NEVER throw away a contract. If you don't have your contract you will need to send a certified letter asking for a copy. See if there is any wording that obligates you to a renew to death relationship with Gold's. It might be better if you don't have a copy of your original contract to invest in a lawyer visit to request it, might be harder to ignore your request. Read your contract. The wording may not obligate you to auto renew and if it does not specifically spell out a required cancellation process, then you may be able to defend yourself and get out of it. Also if you are stuck in an auto renew and Gold's has "messed up" or "lost" your request to cancel, rest assured, you will need a lawyer to send the next request. If they think you are easy to intimidate they won't leave you alone and they WILL mess up your credit.
Try the FTC, the Texas State Attorney General's office, and the BBB in Texas AND in the state where your collection agency is officed. Be sure to state quotes from your contract and keep the communications civil. Be sure to state what you want the outcome to be: ie. prove the legal grounds based on a contract you signed to continue to collect from you. Hopefully you will find wording in your contract to help you fight it. If not, focus on proving your attempts to cancel with their crazy process by having the requests send to Gold's by a law firm. Good luck. I can't believe Gold's is allowed to stay in business.

Since I was no longer using the facilities I went to cancel my membership. Not only were they not helpful in any way, they would not cancel my membership. They said I could "buy out" the rest of my term (for over $400) or wait until it expires in September. So now I get to pay each month for a membership that I am not using due to changes they made that were completely out of my control and would no longer work with my schedule.
You would think that after switching over and changing things up so much they would have a plan in place to take care of members coming from the old gym in case they are dissatisfied. Apparently customer service is not on their priority list, and they'll happily take my money every month even though I can't use the facility, when before they came in and took over, I could. On my initial sign up in the month of December 2015, I was verbally promised a promotional deal of $20.16 dollars down, first month free and $34.99 a month thereafter. I expressed that I could only pay this amount due to the fact that I was unemployed and could not afford any additional fees. I was also told that if I wanted to cancel my membership all I would have to do is give 30-day notice and pay for the last month. No additional fees, no penalties, just a mere $34.99. Prior to signing the contract I asked the customer service rep. Victor why does the contract show a monthly membership fee of $39.99? He stated "Just sign here, Teresa said she'll adjust the membership fee" and he told me that he'd notate the account. it wasn't till two months later that this request was submitted.
The first two months my credit card was debited $39.99. Although it doesn't sound like much, when you're on a tight budget every dollar counts. When trying to contact Teresa the general manager of Gold's Gym Santa Ana, I got nothing but the runaround. My card was charged in January and February. It wasn't until March that I got my free month as originally promised. Then when deciding this was not the gym for me due to the lack of customer service I choose to cancel my membership, only to get hassled about a cancellation fee.
After talking with Cassandra the customer service rep., I was informed rudely that I would have to pay $100 cancellation fee. When trying to explain to Cassandra that I was told that there was no fees per my verbal agreement she said she have the regional manager contact me. I then asked for his information but she would oblige. She wouldn't even share his name w/ me.
Two days ago, Cassandra told me that I would have no choice but to pay the $100.00 and give 30-day notice to cancel. She also informed me that "I was a grown woman, and should read all documents before I sign." She also said "you would go around buying cars w/out reading the paperwork right?" I decided not to stoop to her level and I just hung up my phone. So now I am reaching out to you because I feel I have no other option. I'm not using my membership and I'm sure as soon as April 28th rolls around they'll debit another $34.99. I have never been so disrespected in my life! I had a membership with Gold's Gym Vestavia and was a loyal club member, often referring friends to the facility because I believe that working out with encouragement from friends is a great way to have motivation to show up. After being wrongfully accused by the manager, Ian, that I was offering personal training services to people at the gym for compensation without having ANY proof whatsoever that the two friends of mine that were working out with me were providing me with compensation in any way, and then being threatened with an ultimatum to either workout BY MYSELF from now on OR have my membership terminated, I decided to take my business elsewhere. The sheer fact that I've been a dedicated member of this Gold's Gym since September 2014, and also choosing to help bring business to them, to be embarrassed and accused of such false accusations is appalling.
This small misunderstanding could have been handled in a much better fashion but the fact that Ian was very condescending and smirking throughout the entire conversation made me lose respect not only for him and the way he runs this gym, but for the company in general. My review of this facility would be to put your hard earned money towards a gym where the employees actually respect you and are actually thorough with their work. There are several comparable gyms around Birmingham! Go elsewhere.

I had an account in 2012 and I told them I wanted to cancel so I paid 120 and canceled the account and went on my way. I never received emails or mail and they didn't draft my account anymore. I took it as my account was closed as I asked. 2013 came and I decided to go back because it was a good location for my trainer and I. I opened up a new account. So I moved in 2014 an hr away and stopped going. I called and asked what was my balance because I just want to pay it off and I have a new gym. Well I was told 130.
So today I called to pay the 130 and Kale at the Mechanicsville location in Virginia tells me that I have two accounts open and they are both 300 a piece. I told him that is not correct and asked for a corporate number. He refused for 10 mins and the manager Billy would not come to the phone. I was told by Jake that if I come back in and get another membership they would erase both accounts. I told him "no give me corporate." I called corporate they tell me my account was sent to collections. They have no information or balance. They give me First Financial and I called them.
First Financial tells me that my balance is 159 which is what I was calling to pay. I asked them about the 700 dollars and they tell me that they don't have that balance. I called Gold's Gym back and the story changed to "we switched to a new company and we do have the 120 you paid from the first account but you will have to pay 300". I tell them what First Financial said and Jake places me on hold and comes back to tell me "Billy said just pay what First Financial said" and I should be fine. I asked "why won't Billy come to the phone" and he tells me that "Billy is in a meeting". So how is Billy telling you what to tell me, it's confusing. There is no one to speak to and Jake said he don't know who is in charge of the location he works in. They are a bunch of bull. Do not waste your time and money. I am going to pay 159 I actually owe but they will not add on extra just to get me to come back to get another membership.

Overall, dishonest people and irresponsible managements. First, they dont honor their adds. The sales (Jon) person lock me up in a two years contract without telling me. If you have a problem there is nobody to talk to except the front desk. They have nothing to do for you. I got the chance after one week of trying to speak with the back manager. The store manager never gave me a chance or even bother himself/herself (I believe the name Aaron). I wrote couple e-mail without feedback. I asked for whomever above the store manager. The salesperson (Jon) said that he cant provide it because of the company policy. It was very much the same answer from the back manager when I had the same request. They charged me $40 and I didnt use the gym once. If you have to go there you cannot blink or trust them or you will be really sorry.

I called the corporate office and the guy I talked to said that they can cancel it immediately, but they cannot back pay me the 2 months after I have cancelled the last time.
Also, it seemed that they still want to charge me one more month after the cancellation effective today. This time I asked for an email confirmation - just in case- they continue with their billing and no one can trace back of anything. Scam! Avoid it! I think that if anyone consider joining Gold's Gym should think twice of all the trouble they will get (lost MONEY) in order to cancel the membership. Even after reading the reviews, I went against my better judgement and signed a contract with Gold's Gym. I was definitely cautious and a little retentive when it came to signing a gym membership contract. If I can pay in full, I do. I really thought I had researched everything well and wouldn't fall victim to a gym membership. I was very adamant with Gold's Gym about paying in full for my membership. I had to wait 3 days to get a manager's approval. I do not sign auto-renew contracts, nor do I authorize auto drafts. Due to a charge on my AMEX today, I called ABC Financial, who directed me to go on myiclubonline.com account. There are 2 contracts on file. Ironically, only one is signed by me. ABC Financial said "Obviously there was an error in the first, so a new contract was submitted." Are you kidding? Contract: enter into a formal and legally binding agreement.
Ironically, I called and wrote ABC Financial in October 2015 to ensure my daughter's membership was not renewed. Which they did not make easy. I had to contact them via phone and mail certified letter within 10 days of the call, then follow-up with a call 5 days later. I included my name on all communication as well as hers. They agree today her contract is cancelled, but mine is not. Today, ABC Financial has advised me to contact the person who signed me up at Gold's Gym. Now that is really funny. Hmm... After needing to take care of an ailing family member, I made the decision to cancel my membership with Gold's Gym. I called in late November to find out what I needed to do as I misplaced my contract. I was told I had to speak to a manager. I left my contact info. No return call. I followed up a week later (just in time for the December bill).
When I called, the lady at the front desk told me since my account was past due (bill is due on the 1st of the month, competing with rent) and that I couldn't discuss the cancellation until the bill was current. I made the payment, explained why I was calling again. A message was taken for the manager to contact me to discuss. Again, no one called. I called 2 more times at different shifts to get this manager. The same runaround I experienced. When they drafted the January bill, I was livid! I literally had to call the gym cussing to get...an 800 number. According to the lady at the front desk, that is all the manager would have done after trying to change my mind.
When I called ABC Financial, they told me they never received anything from me, but would accept my call as the official notice of cancellation AFTER I pay them $100 for the cancellation fee!!! I told them they already had $108 from the last 2 months I didn't use and they said they could NOT cancel my membership until they received the $100. I had to fill out a Visa Dispute Form with my bank to attempt to getting it resolved. As of the writing of this, I have received 3 calls back to back from the automated dialer at Gold's as they are trying to debit my account yet again. This really comes across criminal. You can't access your account online. The front desk is always WAY too busy to deal with you. When I signed up at this Gold's Gym 5 years ago I was told that I could bring a different guest each day of the month as long as it was not the same person for at least 1 month. I brought my sister with me once a month since then which has always worked out great. She lives in the same house as me. Tonight when I went to the gym with my sister after not bringing her for over a month I was told she would need to pay 15 dollars to be a guest. When I asked why I was told that it was in the notes on my account. When I told them about the guest policy I was told that the policy changed. That's when I asked to speak to a manager. The lady at the front desk called an assistant manager on the phone and they laughed together on the phone before handing up then she told me the manager would be right with us.
The assistant manager was already behind us at this point and she said we had to pay the 15 dollars or leave. Baffled by this blunt approach I asked to see in writing the new policy that stated this. She confidently grabbed a policy book and opened it up to a list of 10 policies. She pointed at policy #2 that says out of town guests must pay 15 dollars. I told her she was mistaken and that my sister is not from out of town and she has her driver's license to prove it. Then the lady said it doesn't matter because the notes say to charge her 15 dollars. I asked what policy is being enforced that is requiring my sister to pay 15 dollars and she once again pointed to the #2 out of town guests. My sister lives in my parents house with me. In the same town and that is what is says on her driver's license.
The assistant manager then told me "I am walking away now" to which I replied "don't please - I am not finished". I told her we needed to resolve this because she can't just make up rules as she goes. To which she implied "yea I can. It's a private gym". I reminded her I was a paying member there for 5 years and asked to speak with a more senior manager. She said that was impossible because her manager was 8 months pregnant and at home. I told her I would be calling the other manager in the morning to which she replied "I'm really not scared". This woman. Has to be about 30 yet I felt like I was speaking to a high school bully. She had no communications skills. Never mind customer service skills. She has no business being an assistant manager anywhere at this point.

I went and signed up at the Gold's Gym Spartanburg location on East Main St. Very poor decision I made. When I signed up I was told by the front desk that I HAD to sign up for a orientation with the general manager BEFORE I COULD EVEN START COMING TO THE GYM MY FIRST TIME. Okay so I got a time to go the next morning and I went and we sat and talked about the different rate plans they had. I expressed to him numerous times that I was in nursing class and a senior in high school and that it probably wouldn't work out with my schedule. He kept on talking about different things. Even was conning me saying "well today is the last day to sign up and get the free three months". He said, "Well is this something you would be interested in," and I said I would like to try it. Well he said, "We don't work for free". I then told him, "Well yeah I'll do a month of it and see how I like it but I highly doubt it'll work for me with my schedule".
He took down my card information and he did not make me aware of anything he was having me sign after he took my card information down and apparently I learned after the fact that I had signed a "legal binding contract". The next day I called him and told him that I had changed my mind. That clinic time for my nursing class is getting ready to start up. He then went on to start raising his voice and then later on cursing on the phone at me talking about "oh you can't just cancel you signed a legal binding contract." "Well," I said, "what contract because I haven't received any type of copy of mine to any contract other than the one I signed when I got my membership." He went on to cuss again and said "well here at Gold's Gym we help people to reach their goals and I really don't even think you WANT to reach your goals.".
I was beyond mad when he said this because what does my schedule and it not working out for me have to do with me not wanting to reach my goals. Then he said I wasted his staff's time and his time. I said, "Okay well I wouldn't even have been wasting your time if your front desk wouldn't have told me it was MANDATORY that I had to come talk to you." I told him I was gonna pay the 250 cancellation fee and he then said, "Well you know what, on behalf of Gold's Gym and a gift to you I'm just going to rip this contract up and act like it never existed." I said, "Well good," and hang up. This whole company is a scam and their contracts are not explained at all when you sign them. She told me that that would be fine and that the end of August was when my contract ended. She turned to her computer system and typed into it saying, "I've made note that you are canceling at the end of August." At no time in our conversation did this Gold's Gym employee tell me that the only way that I could cancel my membership was online. She did not give me a card with that information on it. I left her office thinking that she had canceled my membership at the end of August.
In September, I called the same Austin Gold's Gym manager and complained to her that my membership was canceled but that my bank account was still being drafted. She expressed concern and apologized. She said that she was notating on my account that I had canceled my account. Again, at no point in the conversation did she tell me that I could not cancel my membership in person, but that I had to go online to do so. In October, I had my bank block Gold's Gym from accessing my account. When I received collection letters, I called the Customer Service number on December 15 and, at that time, the Customer Service Central Office operator explained to me the process for canceling my membership. I asked her to cancel my membership and she did.
I subsequently wrote to the woman in charge of overdue payments via email explaining to her that I had been misled and lied to, and requesting that this debt of 152.80 be dismissed. She replied without acknowledging my statement and asking for the full repayment. I wrote a cease-and-desist letter and filed complaints with the BBB and the FTC. I should note that I was a member at Gold's Gym for ten years prior to this shorter membership and I had previously canceled my membership at the gym in person without incident, so I had no knowledge of the new procedure. I was told when signing the contract that I would be able to easily cancel my membership as long as I move more than 25 miles from the club location. I have since changed address twice, both of which were much more than 25 miles away. I have been trying to cancel my membership for the past 5 months to no avail. The first house that I moved to was a roommate situation, so I did not appear on the lease to the property. Thus, I had no way to cancel my membership since there was no way to prove to this money-grubbing entity that I lived there.
I have recently moved into my own new apartment and am trying to send them a copy of my lease so that my membership can be cancelled. I have come to find that their membership services hotline is only available during the weekdays during normal working hours so now I will probably have to spend my lunch time calling them to cancel my deal with the devil. Also, with my club location, they only accept physical mail either because they think it's the 1800s or because they want to delay the cancellation as long as possible to try and get one more month out of you. Tips to prospective members: take the time to read the contracts yourselves and don't listen to what the gym managers tell you when you're signing up. It's extremely hard to cancel a membership here.

When I signed up for an account at Gold's Gym just over 5 years ago, I made the mistake of signing up for a multi year contract. I did this because that helped create the rate that I could afford monthly. After only a few months I began experiencing some financial difficulties. I decided I could not continue to make the payments. So I quit. This company is still hounding me years and years later. Threatening me with letters from attorneys, as well as trying to serve me with papers. I understand being a little older in life now that you should not enter into contracts that are this binding. With that learning lesson as well as some admission of responsibility on my part set aside, there are some very basic points that should not be missed. This company IS predatory. Plain and simple.
These types of contracts are set up to milk people for money without a service provided. FAR worse than any credit card company. See at least with a credit card you got some sort of value, service, or goods. Clearly I didn't use the facilities, amenities, or gym after I quit. I obviously wouldn't have been able to after discontinuing payments. Therefore the company had already been paid for any time that I could have possibly been using their equipment. Anytime thereafter is asking for compensation simply because I signed a contract. Another way to say it, is that they are trying to now charge me for money that their company did not earn by providing a good service or value. CROOKED.
I work with contracts all day long in my new profession and have a good bearing on what is realistic for suit or compensation. For a company to be this aggressive, litigious, and money hungry as well as providing a sub-par gym experience, is in my humble opinion the very reason you see so many Gold's Gym's closing. Go check out 24 Hour Fitness. That was my last gym for 5 years running. They have excellent facilities as well as a month to month contract. Good luck ever getting your few hundred dollars Gold's! You'll never see a dollar and I'm well on my way to my 6 year statute of limitations in my state!!

Community-Associated MRSA, or CA-MRSA is showing up in healthy people who have not been hospitalized. This infection is something that I have been dealing with since I joined the Greensboro, NC facility in 2012. Unfortunately, it is something common in many people, healthy or not, and not even know it. After surgical treatment and testing positive for MRSA, I called the Rush gym (now known as Gold's Gym) and made them aware of the highly contagious bacteria I picked up at their gym. I immediately stopped going to the gym and alerted a few other members of this serious problem. I wanted to stop the spread of this "super bug" because I knew I was contagious. The Rush customer service department was quick to offer to terminate my contract, but also gave me the option to continue. I opted to stop attending. No further fees were withdrawn from my account. Great.
Now, after 3 years of constant doctor visits and urgent care bills, I feel cheated, embarrassed and will not attend another public gym for the rest of my life. I am still not sure where to go with this issue. Should it be a class action suit? Should I blame the poor hygienic practice by other members? Should I blame the poor hygienic practice by the gym? Should I blame the poor hygienic cleaners and towels provided by the gym? I don't know. I do know this bacteria is highly contagious and the CDC is having a hard time keeping up because of how resilient this "super bug" is to antibiotics. Be cautious of sharing equipment. Wipe down equipment before and after each use. Ask what kind of cleaners the gym has. Bring your own cleaners. Stop the spread of this bacteria. You could be spreading this to your loved ones very easily.

By the next month, I had decided that Gold's was being a little sketchy and that I needed more information. I never signed any contracts or anything and Gold's never informed me of any contracts when I paid for my first month. However, when I contacted them to ask about my extra charge, they told me I OWED 39 dollars for the current month and that I was in a 12 month contract, therefore I could not cancel my membership. WHAT?!
So, I proceed to explain this to my parents and they decided to take matter into their own hands. My mother called the gym that I go to and asked to speak with a manager. Brad was the person she got. Brad explained to my mother that everything was told to me when I applied for membership and that there was nothing hidden about their fees. He then told my mother that I was in a 24 month contract!!! WHAT?!? So, of course my mother did what every other mother would do and she went off on Brad! Brad then proceed to say to my mother, "Ma'am, you must not really know your daughter. She is obviously very irresponsible and is lying to you about what she was told." Alright Brad. I have zero respect for Gold's and especially Brad.

One day I was about to deadlift, there was 2 stronger guys than me that were deadlift over 315lbs. Me I was warming up with 225. The guys were banging the weights like crazy, but it's normal, it's heavy, eventually they leave. Then I am keeping up with my warm up and the manager comes to see me saying, "I was one of the biggest athletes of my times and I never bang the weights. Stop that, the dentist downstairs are complaining." I was like wow first you don't even know who is banging the weight and now you're trying to intimidate me? I'm a member of Dix30 Gold's Gym in Brossard in Canada and seriously this gym does not have a deadlift plate form like wtf? If you know there are dentist downstairs and that they can feel our deadlift why don't you build a plate form like wtf? The gym overall great but seriously I'm disappointed by the manager. Sorry, but he is jerk too now.

I was working in the area temporarily as a consultant. Due to there not being a LA fitness in the area and the company I worked for had a promotion being ran at the time with Gold's I decided to sign up and join. I was a little skeptical about being billed every two weeks for monthly dues but I didn't have a better option at the time. So long story short after I finished my project as a consultant in the area I went to cancel my membership with Gold's so I wouldn't have to pay for another two weeks since I just had been charged.
The employee at the gym told me that I would be charged for another month if I cancelled at the gym. He continued to tell me that if I called customer service they would cancel my subscription immediately. So since I had already paid for the next two weeks there was no sense of urgency on my part to contact customer service due to me packing up and leaving the area. So I called customer service a week and a half later to cancel and the representative had told me that I would have to pay another month after I cancel. I advised her that "I was told by an employee at the gym that if I called customer service that you could cancel my subscription immediately."
She told me that was incorrect and just asked me if I still wanted to cancel. So now I'm on the hook for another month after I just paid my dues 2 weeks ago. Instead of being understanding she just said "sorry for the incorrect information but unfortunately it would still take 30 days from today." So a month later after called customer service I looked at my account today and noticed that Gold's gym charged me 40 dollars due to my 14 fee and 26 dollar fee due to a declined transaction because I had received a new debit card and they didn't have it on file. So I called today to explain the situation and how if I was provided with the correct information initially provided by your company I wouldn't have even been receiving these charges.
I also explained to them since they have my number of file why didn't someone just call me to resolve this issue before charging me an additional 26 dollars. They told me that as a member it is my job to keep up my financial institution information with them. That's when I explained to them that I'm no longer a member because I cancelled. They representative just asked if there was something that she could help me with. I will never go back to Gold's gym and FYI if you are in the area and looking for a great gym to workout at they are building an LA fitness right down the street with better equipment, better prices and you only get charged 1 time a month. Hope this helps anyone that was hesitant about joining Gold's. I mean what good is customer service if they aren't there to help the customer?

I had a membership at Gold's Gym's Rockville, MD location through my job. I made sure when I signed up for the membership that I could cancel at any time. My contract stated that I needed to cancel in writing. I decided to cancel my membership in writing around mid-July 2015. I made sure the letter was delivered by FedEx and received a delivery confirmation. I waited about two weeks and then called the facility to verify that my request was received. The person I spoke to told me that she did not see a cancellation request in the system, but to call back because the membership person was not at the facility at the time of my call. I waited another week and called back again and was told the same thing. I decided to visit the facility and get an answer in person. To my surprise, I was told that the person who signed for the FedEx delivery did not work there and that I needed to cancel my membership by going online to a special website.
We were now in August 2015 about one month after my original request. I went online as directed and completed the information to request a cancellation of my membership. Then I called Gold's Gym's customer service line to make sure that my request was received. I was told it was and that it would take 30 days for the cancellation to take effect. We are now at the end of October and Gold's Gym is still charging my credit card. When I went online to check on my cancellation request, I got the following message: "Your account is already scheduled for cancellation. If you have questions about your cancellation request, please contact our Customer Care Department at 1-866-465-3775."
The Gold's Gym's staff was all eager to take my money when I was joining the gym, but now that I'd like to stop my membership, I am being given the runaround. On their contract, Gold's Gym makes no mention of the special site you are supposed to use to cancel your membership, which I believe gives them time to collect more fees from customer.

I closed my account with an ex employee named Sean **. I provided proof of relocation which was hours away from the closest Gold's gym (I also was laid off suffering financial hardship) and was told that that allowed me to break a contract. He told me he successfully submitted all documentation and the account was closed. We shook hands and parted ways. Years have gone by and no charges on my account. No bills. No calls. No notices. Now 3 years later I am preparing for our twins to be born with a wife about to be put on bed rest and I get a notification from my bank showing that we are in the negative for a $900+ charge. Gold's gym charged my account.
We called the corporate office. Because they had the wrong address they refused to assist us. They referred us back to the opening branch. We called and spoke to our operations manager. Told her everything and she told us that she had only recently taken over and cannot help us but it was so wrong and she was so sorry. She cancelled the account and told us that we had to speak to corporate. We called the department for billing and asked for their manager. We were told 2 times by two employees that we had to talk with them first, then that we were not allowed to hold for a manager. We informed them we had multiple auto drafts pending that would accumulate fees at the bank and it was time sensitive! They offered to transfer to a voicemail or hang up. Those are our options. I asked for the complaint department of corporate to which another employee responded "I am corporate" and hung up on us. I called again 4 times. No call back.
My 6 month pregnant wife with twins who cannot be stressed was in tears having a panic attack which almost caused her to be hospitalized. Our rent is due and multiple charges are pending which will incur fees. We provided the employee name and date of cancellation and we're berated and finally told if we didn't have a confirmation code (that was never provided) from their employee who was let go for obvious reasons that we were still under contract (they told us 2 year but now somehow it was 4 with no paperwork to prove so) and continue to be charged. We have since closed the account and reported the charges and will be taking them to small claims court and counter suing for damages and pain and suffering if this is not fixed. I am disgusted and appalled.

My gym says "no problem, we'll take care of it. You can get a refund, we can apply it to your membership," etc. I told Gold's to apply it to my membership. I like the gym. ABC keeps sending me bills for non payment even though they stopped all activity on my account. I told them to call the gym as they were supposed to apply the 205 towards my regular acct. We decided to cancel after we moved 15 miles from the gym and all the pain in the butt hassles. I brought a letter stated I am under permanent care from my orthopedist. So I went in, signed a form and I thought that was that. 1 year later I get a call from a billing dept telling me I owe hundreds of dollars in past due fees. I explained it was canceled. When speaking to the supervisor Trish, she at first stated she never got a letter. I sent it 2 months go by. More calls, I call again. The letter is from a PA and needs to be from a doctor. I don't know what universe doctors sign anything, even my prescriptions are from a PA.
It seems every time I meet her demand, 2 months later I get notice it wasn't enough. Meanwhile 6 months of dues have accrued and what she is asking for doesn't exist. What I was told I needed was provided quickly and promptly. I do not have to provide any more personal detail - that is an infringement on my civil liberties. I was informed that by signing up, I WOULD be granted this access. I was not informed of anything different. Upon attempting to use another GOLD'S GYM in another state, I was informed that my & such membership didn't exist with the SPARTANBURG WEST location, my privileges were for the 1-gym access, & that I'd be given a 14-visit/travel pass to visit the local gym & would have to sign up for membership @ that location if I wanted to continue going (basically, I'd be paying to go twice over to go to the same gym).
I tried to find out what happened, and the general manager @ Spartanburg West, (BRAD **) became very argumentative, wouldn't allow me to speak, disrespectful, & confrontational about the 14-visit travel pass stating "...that's all he was gonna talk about with me..." After asking if it was common practice to misinform & mislead prospective/members about this franchise fiasco regarding membership & gym policies practiced on the corporate level, he stated "...no, we don't tell members about the difference..."
GOLD'S GYM. If you're going to employ asinine individuals such as BRAD ** to represent your company even as a franchise leader, that says a lot about your company. Even if a prospective member choose to "sign a contract," everything including the member's full privileges, expectations, and description of locations and any rules that are followed differently or may not apply to each location should be laid out in that said contract! This one experience has soured your company's name & practices and I will be making sure that people know what they're up against. I've been a member with Gold's Gym in Arlington Ma. for about a year and five months now. Seven months ago, I went in there and asked if I could put my niece on my membership on a month to month basis. This was my present to her for graduating high school. They said that was fine and that she would have to show some ID when she came in. When my seventeen year old niece went there, they told her she would have to sign something before she could work out. What they had her sign without my consent or her parents' consent was a two-year contract. I didn't know this until I tried to cancel her membership after six months. When I called about this, they said they would have to do some more research on it and call me back. They never did. I've talked to many people who work there and they gave me the same exact answer in the same exact words. "I'll do some more research on it and I'll call you back."
Nobody called me back. Finally I got in touch with a manager named Joe who actually did call me back but I was at work. When I called them back they told me he wasn't there but my niece's membership would be canceled on the 25th of September. I thought that was the end of it until I recently got a phone call from ABC financial from Canada saying my niece's account was still active and that it was overdue. When I called Gold's Gym back, they once again said they would have to do some more research on it and call me back. Of course they never did.
At that point I realized that everything they had told me had been a lie. Nobody ever did any research or called me back. They just used these stall tactics to get more money out of me. To sign an underage girl up to a two-year membership on somebody else's credit card without that person's consent or her parents' consent is not just morally wrong but probably illegal. I think their only goal is to get as much money as they can no matter what they have to do to get it. Do not ever give Gold's Gym in Arlington Ma. your credit card. They cannot be trusted.

Because I was not using my membership for medical reasons, I had the membership frozen until the end of September, hoping that I would be better. That not being the case, I cancelled my membership. Now they have decided that since the membership is currently frozen, it cannot be cancelled - not in the contract. Then they decided to use a 30 day period from the time of receipt of my cancellation to reactivate my contract and ask me to pay for the last half of September. This makes no sense either.

I was at the gym working out, trying to say hello to a front desk person, who I know personally. Have had talks with on occasion and someone I considered a friend. I made a joke about her butt, said it got bigger but it was in no way meant to be derogatory. I haven't seen this person in months - I been busy with work, school. It was a friendly ice breaker that fits my personality. We were about to talk about school, catching up the usual, just a quick 1-2 minute talk like we usually do then I am on my way. A new manager overheard, he did not know the implications of my casual talks and took the matter serious.
Where things get complicated is when internal influences, influence someone that was suppose to be my friend and try to create a sexual harassment case when there is none. I go to the gym, I work out 45 minutes, I say hello, I leave. That's it. The manager approaching me was ignorant of the situation and I blew him off. Perhaps egos were hurt, and employee staff felt the urge to create drama where there was none. Perhaps because everyone was bored, there was no sales and staff needed something to do. Kind of like 5 cops that show up for a speeding ticket. I was asked my name, I did not give it, I was angry, and I left.
The following day I called to speak directly to Brenna **. All I wanted to do was vent and tell my side of the story. A professional sales manager would have at least heard my side of the story and then said something like "Perhaps you should workout at another Gold's Gym for a few weeks, you can't come back till this issue is resolved", demanded I make an apology to my friend. A professional resolution could have been done. I never received a call back. This shows lack of leadership, influence and efficiency. All of the qualities a manager should have. Brenna ** showed none of those.
I did not a receive a phone call, so I figured maybe it's water under the bridge. I was mad, okay I'll forgive the guy, just stay out of my way. I don't need to speak to the front desk girl again. Fine, I am still a paying customer. Money still came out of my bank account for the month of August, 2015. I still have the legal right to workout there, and if there was a major issue; I would have received a phone call. I go to the gym, scan my card. I'm allowed in.. I see the gym manager "Hey did you talk to Brenna?" I respond "No I didn't, we're good" and I walk towards the treadmill. About 2 minutes into starting.. "Hey you can't workout here? Brenna ** revoked your membership." I said "Really, she didn't call me back. That was very unprofessional of her." A staff member walks over and 2 security guards...... I said "Do you really need 2 security guards?"
Brenna ** and West Covina staff executed a decision without my side of the story. They created an issue where there was none, and it is because of this I feel management staff at West Covina Gold's Gym should be removed for incompetence and tarnishing the Gold's Gym brand name. They did not hear my side of the story, yet they executed a removal of membership without written consent. A simple phone call from staff "Drew I just wanted to inform you we revoked your membership, for the following reasons" would have least gave them some sort of legal protection.
I hope West Covina gym reaps the consequences and finally gets shut down like they belong. From a business perspective, they are overly staffed, the gym is empty, rent is high and it makes absolutely no sense for the gym to be running to begin with. It should be in the best interest of Gold's Gym Corporate to shut down Gold's Gym West Covina Completely. West Covina staff has abused the Gold's Gym name, treats their customers with disrespect and I hope to prosecute Brenna ** and staff to the fullest extent of the law.

In February of 2015, my son moved in with us and we bought him a gym membership at Gold's Gym in O'Fallon, IL. He had a one-year contract (another story for another time) and we paid bi-weekly. In June, he got a job in Paducah, KY and had to move. They have no Gold's Gym down there into which he could transfer, so we set out to cancel his membership here. We took a copy of the lease agreement and a copy of my signed check paying the first and last month's rent, plus the deposit for rent. They said that wasn't good enough and that we needed a copy from the apartment complex, so we complied. I forwarded the email to the manager at the gym (per her request) with the lease agreement.
Two weeks later, they pulled more $ from my account. I stopped in, taking the lease agreement with me, again, and they apologized because they couldn't find the other one. They made a copy and brought my original back to me. Two weeks went by again they took $ from my account. I called and talked to Andrew **, who was the Asst Mgr on August 12th. He said he remembered me coming in and said that he had sent in my paperwork to their corporate office and that he would have it all taken of that afternoon.
Today is August 25th and again, they took $ from my account, so I called the corporate office. I got a girl who was willing to help, but she was snippety. After we went around for about 10 minutes, she agreed to give a refund for July 24th, August 10th and August 24th because they didn't receive my paperwork, until July 10th. Well, if they received the paperwork on July 10th, why did they continue to steal money from my account??? It was unauthorized. They gave me a confirmation #, but refused to email me a confirmation. I was informed that they were unable to close my account since it had to be done by a member of management and it was late in the evening. But was advised to contact corporate the following morning and request the closure by phone or online. Since the account cycled the following day, they suggested to call first thing in the morning and maybe they could stop the following month's charge.
When I contacted corporate the following day, to my surprise I was informed that not only were they unable to honor my request for stop payment, but that the account would take 30 days to cycle and I could be looking at an additional monthly charge on top of the one happening that exact day! I advised the rep my account was set up to be withdrawn on a bi-weekly basis so 1 two-week cycle should provide sufficient time for the request to be processed. Rep again stated no, their system is set up to automatically execute charges and cannot be modified so they were unable to honor my request. I was stunned. I asked how that was possible, let alone legal to be charged 2 extra months after my account was closed and the rep proceeded to advise that it's legal since it was written in my contract and that I should read it. PLEASE READ YOUR CONTRACT! It might be perfectly legal, but horribly unethical.

My 17 year old daughter and I signed up for a platinum membership together on July 18, 2014. On July 26, 2015, I went in and filled out the form to cancel the membership starting our 30 day notice per policy. I was set up on credit card payments that automatically hit every two weeks. So I was told to expect two more payments to hit as my last month of dues. Fine. Since July 26th was a Sunday, the manager Quae, reluctantly agreed to let me complete the form and told me it was against policy to allow cancellation to be done on weekends. After I told him, I travel a lot with my job and cannot come in again during the week, he let me turn in the form which he said he would process with Billing on Monday. He asked me to call him on Monday to remind him which I did. On Monday when I called as requested, I was told he had been transferred to the downtown location but the new manager could see my cancellation in the system.
I assumed it was indeed done and moved on. After THREE payments posted to my card, I called in this weekend was told by a front desk person that she nor Billing had any record in the system nor could locate any paperwork requesting cancellation. IT WAS AS THOUGH IT NEVER HAPPENED. I asked to speak to a manager and was told no managers work after 6 p.m. This was around 7 p.m. I would need to speak with the new manager Ms. King but she was gone for the day. So, today I went back in and met with Ms. King. She showed me in their system where there was a note that I came in on July 26th to cancel but the paperwork is no longer on site. If it exists, Billing would have it. She tried to call a guy in Billing several times while I was there and could not reach the one and only person that handles all billing and has no backup. He never takes vacations she said.
I asked for the name and number of her manager. She refused to give me any name or number. She said she is the highest person I can talk to. She told me there is no corporate complaint number nor anyone else to call. She also informed me that if the paperwork I completed cannot be found, I am not allowed to cancel the membership now since my daughter was the primary member on the contract and I was the legal guardian who signed for her when she was a minor. Today, because she turned 18 on July 28th, she has to be the one to cancel even though the credit card is mine. She is the only one who can either change the payment or cancel the membership.
Legally, I can be forced to continue to pay the auto renewing contract for 36 months unless my 18 year old daughter allows either different payment arrangements to be made or she cancels it. By the way, if they cannot locate my cancellation form, which I was not given a copy of, when she cancels, they will stick me for another 30 day notice and take two more payments plus the annual "club enhancement fee". How can this be legal? I can be forced to pay for and not have the authority to cancel an auto-renewable contract? I would love to talk to an attorney who is willing to challenge this.
